Question: Satellite A500-18R - RAM upgrade question

My PC has 2 RAM memories from 2GB to 1066MHz. I want to expand it with 2 modules of 4GB each. My question is: each module can have 1066MHz or each one can only have 533MHz to complete 1066MHz between 2? Thank you

Preferred Solution: Satellite A500-18R - RAM upgrade question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have upgraded my Satellite A500-1f4 running Windows 7 64bit from 4GB to 8GB RAM. Now the BIOS can read the 8GB [2*4GB - bus 1066 MHz] , however windows never started, just hang and screen blank and never changed. When I remove the * GB memory and install original one 4 GB [2*2 GB] it works fine. I even tried to use only 4GB [1 memory chip - 4 GB] but also same issue and read on BIOS but windows never started.

Here is the RAM I used:
4GB PC3-8500 (1066Mhz) 204 pin DDR3 SODIMM (CKS) by Hynix
I bought from amazom :

Can you help me?

I need to upgrade memory to 8 GB, Kindly advise me

Answer:Satellite A500-1F4 - How to upgrade to 8GB RAM?

Hi waelagina,

For me it sounds like that your new modules are faulty or not compatible with the computer. I mean if the old modules work properly, the RAM slots are ok and Windows is installed properly.

You should test other modules. Try Kingston modules or order pretested modules by Toshiba from an authorized service provider.

Sorry but that?s all what I can say at the moment.

Hi everyone,

I have few Toshiba A500-13C laptop's in my company.
Snice Microsoft started to offer Windows 8 our software developer made some important updates, which works good on W8.

I want to update my computers and I saw how that system works with new laptops that has non-BIOS systems (UEFI).
I've read about that and Phoenix(developer of my BIOS) says that my notebook's are easy to update to be UEFI "ready". Is there any chance that Toshiba will update this?

Where should I write?
Does somebody help me?

P.S. Sorry for my english.

Answer:Satellite A500-13C - Win 8 BIOS Upgrade

First of all this is user to user forum so nobody can answer a questions like: +?Is there any chance that Toshiba will update this??+

But as far as I know Toshiba has released an Win 8 info containing an matrix of all old notebook series supporting Win 8:

Your A500 is +NOT+ a part of the list, so in my opinion there will not be an Win 8 driver nor BIOS support.

As I'm willing to upgrade memory of my notebook, at the moment my notebook has 2x 2GB DDR3 PC3-8500 @ 1066Mhz (at least this is what specification says). I plan to remove them and put inside 2x 4GB, but PC3-10600 @ 1333 Mhz. *Is my plan doable or the 1333Mhz memories won't be compatible with my laptops motherboard?* Problem is, getting 1066Mhz is quite unreal where I live, as they are a quite rare product and most shops offer only 1333Mhz and higher.

Thanks in advance for any answers/suggestions.

Answer:Satellite A500-1H1 - Memory upgrade

According notebook specification your notebook model can be upgraded up to 8 GB.
If you want to have 8GB RAM you can upgrade it with 2 x 4GB. Compatible 4GB RAM for your machine has part number PA3677U-1M4G.

Try to find online store where you can order RAMs with this part number.

I have been trying to upgrade BIOS on my Satellite A500-1GL (PSAR9E) for a while now but I have a dead battery so cannot get past the security check at the beginning. Is there anyway way around this, as I am connected with AC power so I don't see what the problem is!! Could I have the self extracting zip files possibly.

Any help would be much appreciated as this is very frustrating!

Answer:Satellite A500-1GL - cannot upgrade BIOS

I think you will not be able to update the BIOS if your battery is dead.
The Win based BIOS update can be updated only from running Windows system and there is a security option which allow you to update the BIOS only if the notebook is connected to AC adaptor and if the battery is charged.

You could update the BIOS using an traditional BIOS version but as far as I know only an Toshiba service partner could do that.

So you?ve got two options:
Purchase a battery in order to update the BIOS using win based BIOS version or you will get in contact with an ASP in your country and will ask for BIOS update using traditional BIOS version.

But is BIOS update necessary for you?

I've got a notebook with old BIOS version and i did not update it even if new version was released.

Hi there,
is it possible to upgrade my A500-19N with Bluetooth?
I do have a USB-Bluetooth dongle, but i'm not satisfied with this setup.
Thus I was wondering wheter there is a possibility to upgrade my Laptop, as many other satellite a500s DO have BT.

Kind regards

Answer:Re: Is Bluetooth upgrade on Satellite A500-19N possible?

I don't believe anyone here can give you final answer.
Generally speaking such upgrade is not easy because the whole notebook must be disassembled; BT antenna placed on the right place (behind the display) and the cable must be placed on the right place.
The question is also if the mainboard on your A500 has prepared for BT upgrade.

I am afraid for all this you need professional help and if anyone can help you about it, it is Toshiba authorized service provider in your country.

I've looked on the website but cant find any options to upgrade this laptop such as add a blu ray play upgrade memory, processor etc

Can someone steer me in the right direction?

Answer:Satellite A500-17X and upgrade options

Regarding the upgrades on a notebook you should read this document firstly:

If you want a blu-ray drive you can ask an authorized service provider for that. If there are compatible drives on the market you can get it from them.

But why you want to upgrade this pretty new notebook? In my opinion it?s equipped with new and fast hardware so it?s not necessary to change something. :)

I recently got my copy of Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. when I actually bought my laptop it was shipped with Windows Vista home premium 64 bit, all I wanted is to upgrade to Windows 7 which I bought.

So I followed the instructions with the Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant Tool but I get this annoying unfix-able message
This model does not support windows 7.. and it quits when I click OK.. So I'm unable to upgrade because I'm afraid of damaging anything. Slthough its an A500-PSAM3E-014011G3. It can totally support Windows 7 so I don't even have a clue where to start to fix that. The BIOS version is even 1.21

I can't find a solution for this HELP PLEASE

Answer:Satellite A500 - Can't upgrade to Windows 7

What Windows 7 disk you are using? Is it a Microsoft one?
And do you get more error informations as only this one?

To be honest I never heard about such an issue. Does it work if you install Windows 7 due a clean installation and not an upgrade?
Maybe you should also contact Microsoft for help?

Hello guys.

I decided to upgrade HDD in my 1-year old Toshiba A500-138 (PSAM3E). Now I've got 400 GB HDD, and would like to have 1 TB - Toshiba MK1059GSM to be precise. The only thing that keeps me from ordering it right now is that this HDD is 12,5 mm high, while my old 400GB is 9,5 mm (which you can consider as standard).

Do you think it would fit into A500 chasis? Maybe someone has done similar upgrade in the past?

One more thing - will Toshiba A500 even recognize the HDD? I think that 1-year old notebook shouldn't have any problem with it, but I could be wrong.

Any help and suggestions would be highly appreciated:)

Answer:Satellite A500-138 (PSAM3E) - HDD upgrade

I had the same situation on my old Satellite A300 and I can say that you can use both HDD. It doesn?t matter which high the HDD has. You can use both of them.

I presume you are the first one here on this forum with such upgrade and it will be nice to hear your personal experience but I think new HDD should be recognized properly on this newer notebook model.

Hi everyone.

I am planning to purchase new laptop and I've seen the specs of Satellite A500-1 F4 and Satellite L505-13W. I like the 16" screen in A500 but there is one thing not clear, what do they mean about truebright display? Compared to L505, it has HD LED display.

Also, what is much better video card? NVIDIA GE force or the ATI Radeon? Both the A500 and L505 have the same 1GB video card capacity, the difference in the brand.

Thank you.

My HD recently crashed. My laptop was still in guarantee, so I send it back, and they replaced the Hard Disk.

When I got it back, I installed Ubuntu, and it's working fine.

But, I need Windows Vista for some programs (Visual C++, some games, ...) that won't run under Wine. Since I've hadn't done a lot of things, I thought to use the recovery media. Normally you should be able to do this from the setup (hold 0 or F8). But that won't work (I get a different screen, without any options).

After some searching, i saw I could order a recovery-dvd. I just wonder if it will work, since my laptop is already running on ubuntu? And will it re?nstall Vista?
It would be stupid to spent more than 30EUR for a recovery dvd that doesn't work. If that's the case, I'll just buy Windows 7, but that seems like a waste of money, since I've had it before my HD crashed (free upgrade).

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A500-14Q - Question about Recovery- DVD

Why to use Vista on this machine? It must be Win7 supported so before you spend money for old and not so perfect Vista buy Win7 and you will have great machine with newest operating system that runs much better than old Vista.

I plan on doing a reformat of my laptop sometime soon. If I restore windows to factory state using the backup image I made when I first got the laptop would it overwrite both the C and D drives? Or would it just overwrite the C drive?

I ask this because I use the C drive for Windows and programs and I use the D drive for all my media and games. I only need to wipe clean the C drive.

I made the backup image using Toshiba's media recovery program.

Answer:Satellite A500 - Reformat question

I hope I will be able to explain to you how it works.

For recovery image installation you have two possibilities:
# to use recovery image saved on HDD (second partition in ?HDDRecovery? folder
# to use recovery DVD that you can create alone using preinstalled ?Toshiba recovery disc creator

When you use HDD recovery option - - only partition C will be formatted. All data saved on second partition will be there.

When you use created DVD for operating system installation the whole HDD will be deleted and formatted. That means you will lose all your data.

Hello all,

I just purchased an A500/02J but I would like to replace the keyboard with a backlit keyboard. I have found an A500 compatible backlit keyboard on ebay, but I'm wondering whether the motherboard on the 02J will enable the replacement.

Does anyone know if this can be done?

Kind Regards

Answer:Re: Satellite A500/02J - Backlit keyboard upgrade

I cannot say for sure if such upgrade is possible but I don?t think so. I mean why Toshiba should offer such motherboard with keyboard without backlight.

Best thing you can do is to call Toshiba service in your country and ask for help. They have experience with this stuff and I think you will get prober answer from service guys.

If you find out the upgrade is possible please let us know. This info can be useful for other A5oo owners.

I own a Toshiba Satellite A500-1H4, and I would like to upgrade my memory from 4 & 2GB to 4 &4 setup.
Given the complexity of the subject, I need some information:

- what are the detailed specs? Should the memory be 1066 or 1333 MHz? Should it have 200 or 204 pins?
- should I replace both of the chips, or would one suffice?

I would be very obliged for any responses.

Also, sorry for my english.

Best regards,

Answer:Re: Satellite A500-1H4 Memory upgrade - what specs?

As far as I know the RAM upgrade is mentioned in the user manual.
Did you check this in the past?

The notebook handles the DDR3 1066MHz (PC3-8500) DDR3-SO-DIMM (204 pin)
memory modules.
You can upgrade the RAM to 8GB (2 x 4GB) because the Intel HM55 supports 8GB RAM.

I recommend using two exactly the same modules in order to avoid some compatibility problems.

Hey there.

I was wondering whether I would be able to change the cpu on my computer from my 2.10 Ghz Intel core 2 duo to either an i5 or i7 processor and wanted to know whether I would be able to, since I've heard all this stuff about needing a special chipset or new motherboard for something like that.

Answer:Can I upgrade to i5 or i7 from Core 2 Duo on Satellite A500-PSAM3A

Take a look here:
+Is it possible to upgrade the CPU or GPU of a Toshiba Notebook?+

_Why an exchange should/can not be performed:_

? No significant performance will be gained (Comparison -> price vs. performance)

? It is uncertain if the new CPU is compatible to the system board. The built-in chipsets may support from their technical specifications a wide range of CPUs but this does not imply that all CPU types can be used in a mobile system since the built-in cooling systems were designed individually for each model series to ensure the optimal operation of the machine. A wrong CPU can cause the system to overheat and damage some of the internal system components.

? In most cases the BIOS does not work with the replaced CPU which causes the machine to malfunction. The BIOS must be rewritten after every exchange of a CPU which can be only performed by an Toshiba authorized service partner.

? The immediate revocation of the warranty will be applied if some of the core component were modified by the customer. This applies also when the machine was not disassembled by a Toshiba Certified Engineer.

I purchased a Satellite A500 laptop containing Vista 32 bit Home Premium.
It came with a upgrade to Windows 7 for which I completed the install/uninstall process for upgrading from Vista Home Premium 32 bit to Windows 7 32 bit from the Toshiba site before the start of the DVD windows 7 install process.

After the re-start of my computer at step 6, I have a message 'new hardware found - base system device' I have tried searching c: and I have tried searching the Windows 7 DVD for the specific file and am unable to locate it.

The install/uninstall removed the drivers to connect to the internet.

Can't seem to start the install of Windows 7 from the DVD.

Please help.

Answer:Issue with Windows7 upgrade - Satellite A500

The Win 7 asks for the driver!
It?s not placed on the C or on the Win 7 DVD.

I assume you have upgraded the Vista to Win 7 and did not the clean install?.
I recommend a clean install because Win 7 would install everything again and will not use the applications which were preinstalled on Vista.
In many cases such apps are not fully compatible with Win 7.

After the clean Win 7 installation, you could install the Win 7 drivers which you will find on the Toshiba pages.

But Win 7 drivers are not published on Toshiba European page at this time?
So you could use a Toshiba US page to get the drivers or should check the European page later?

I have Satellite A500 - 134,
When I was upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7, I had to remove some programs as the upgrade advisor mentioned.
Now I miss those programs after installing Windows 7:
# Toshiba Tempro
# Toshiba ConfigFree
# Toshiba Disc Creator

Also, "FN" button doesn't work anymore (it was working on Vista), so I can't activate any feature when I press FN + (some F# buttons like F2).

So, what can I do about this?

Answer:Satellite A500 - Missing programs after upgrade to Windows 7

Did you use the Windows 7 upgrade kit from Toshiba? This kit contains also an Utilities that must be used to due installation process and as mentioned in manual.

Anyway, you can get the tools on the Toshiba page now: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

For the FN buttons you have to install Toshiba Value Added Package.

Hi everyone, I run Toshiba SATELLITE A500-1C0 (PSAR3E-01300WPL) with Windows 8 PRO x64.

As I noticed - post factum /: - at "SUPPORTED MODELS" my PCs drivers not supported for Windows 8.

Although, the computer run fine, but I have a minor problem with my drivers: the panel at the top of keyboard ( doesn't work - only mute, volume up/down are working, but the ECO button and media buttons are NOT - is there any method to upgrade the drivers so that I can use all buttons?

I installed TOSHIBA eco-Utility and it works fine, but the buttons are not responding. I can not find and update the driver/ulitity which is responsible for this issue.

I also want to ask if there is any chance to get TOSHIBA drivers for Win.8 for my Satellite A series PC in the future. Is there any utility to scan and upgrade TOSHIBA drivers automatically? (but not Toshiba Drivers Update Utility, which is not working in my case -it offers me to downgrade my drivers!)

I opened Device Manager and tried to update the drivers manually but - which is even BIGGER problem then eco etc. panel - some devices are marked as "unknown devices" and can not be recognised at all.

Thank you for your help,

Answer:Satellite A500: Multimedia buttons don't work after Win 8 upgrade

Method? Nom there is no other method as to try some Win 8 tools released for other notebook series. The multimedia button requires the VAP (value added package) installation.
Check and test the VAP for Win 8 released for other Win 8 supported notebook series.

As far as I know the notebook was released with an VISTA 32/64Bit HOME PREMIUM (DUAL) system.
So you could use either Vista 32bit or 64bit

Just to clarify this: you used Vista 32bit in the past and upgraded the from Vista 32bit to Win 7 32bit. Right?

Well, if you want to use Win 7 64bit, you can upgrade from Vista 64bit to Win 7 64bit or you will need make a clean installation of Win 7 64bit using an Microsoft Win 7 64bit disk.

OK I have 2 questions.

The first is about the boot menu, the one which says Toshiba and then has press F2 for setup and F12 (i think) for boot order.
Basically I turned that off in the bios menu so that it would boot up the computer faster.
But now, how am I supposed to access the bios menu?
Is there a way to turn that screen back on?

My second question is;
how can you turn off hyperthreading in the bios menu?
This is what I was originally looking to do but I couldn't find the option to enable/disable it.
All I could find was something to turn off the dual cores and make it single core (which is a bit pointless)

Answer:Satellite A500-1GL Boot menu and Hyperthreading question

Hi mate

It?s not possible to disable the access to the BIOS!
You can secure the BIOS access with the password but if you know the password then you should be able to access the BIOS pressing F2 immediately after the notebook has been powered up!

Regarding Hyperthreading;
Usually you will not be able to enable/disable this if the BIOS does not contains such option. But you can check if the Toshiba HWSetup (in Toshiba Assist) would contain such option.

Answer:Satellite A500 - How to restore factory settings after Windows 7 upgrade?

Hi stab,

I think I haven?t good news for you: Restoring to factory settings without Toshiba recovery disk isn?t possible in your case! :(

First of all I think it?s normal that no recovery disks are delivered anymore with the notebook because you have to create them yourself by using Toshiba recovery disk creator. Therefore it?s recommendable using high quality mediums like Verbatim DVD-R.

I think the only option to get factory settings back is ordering a new recovery disk from Toshiba.

I don?t understand why you didn?t create this disk because after first start if you put the notebook out of box, you get the following message:

+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. if you need to repair+
+your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+
+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"+
+and follow the menue instructions) or create a bootable Recovery Disc Medium for this purpose.+

+Toshiba recommends you to create Recovery Disc Medium using the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" to ensure+
+hat you are able to restore your computer to the original factory installed state, even if your computer+
+gets seriously damaged+

Yesterday <strong>I upgraded BIOS to v1.50, and fan noise returned</strong>.
I don't recommend this upgrade if you have had fan noise problem.<br />

Thanks mate for sharing this with us?

But maybe you could use the BIOS v1.5 and could reduce/decrease the cooling module activity in Vista/Win7 power management settings.
It would be worth to check this?

I am installing the win7 upgrade on my Satellite A500 PSAM3E and when I reach in the Expanding windows files it stop and a message pop up:

*(Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570). *

Installation stop and I could not do anything, I restarted the upgrade but still the same.

I have just received my DVD win7 upgrade from Toshiba, is the DVD corrupted or some other issues, before the installation a message appears that I should uninstall ATI Catalyst install and ATI catalyst control panel.

Needs help from expert who have already done the upgrade.

And why you didn?t do this?
Maybe you are running an older version of the display drivers and so you have to uninstall them before you can start the upgrade.
Check this!!

After the successful upgrade you can install the newest display driver version from the Toshiba page.

By the way: Here you can find a step by step upgrade:

Satellite A500-02F costs about 10% more than Satellite A500-025.

Is the Satellite A500-02F much better and worth the extra money or are they basically the same . The Satellite A500-02F has a T6066 chip compared to T6065 in the Satellite A500-025 much difference?

The Satellite A500-02F has DDR3 memory, will this make much difference? Any other differences?

Answer:Difference between Satellite A500-025 and A500-02F

Hi junglo,

I think you have already answered the question yourself. The Satellite A500-02F has a faster CPU and DDR3 memory. It should be a little bit faster in programs they need a high CPU performance and in games for example.

It?s also depending on the programs that you want to use but I would choose the faster model. I don?t buy every year a new notebook so I would choose the faster one and 10% difference isn?t so much. ;)

Answer:Satellite A500-1GR - RAM Memory upgrade but 3GB usable system memory

Such option doesn?t exist in BIOS and the whole thing is controlled automatically. BIOS update will not change anything.
As far as I know on Toshiba notebooks you cannot ?force? notebook to use defined amount of RAM.

Hi Forumites,

I've been trying my darndest to understand how a computer can possibly sync correctly with the user, when there is no instruction book on how to load all of the supposed software this computer comes with.

I can't link my phone and the A500 together via bluetooth. The stickers on the bottom of the computer state that this service is available on this computer, but when I follow the "NO" help files, (control panel, type in bluetooth and click on things) the options that "help" gives me simply do not exist.

The specifications state that this computer comes with Picassa software (photo editing), but where is it exactly? It's certainly not in the programs list, it's not mentioned in the help files, it's not coming up with an answer in any search of the C:.

The support phone number is constantly engaged. Yes it answers my call, but then puts me into a constant loop of extremely boring "yadda yadda blah blah" about how great it is to own said computer, every so often asking me to leave my number so they can call me back. Hello! My number is unlisted. How can you possibly do that?

How the 'darn firey environment mentioned in religious text' is one supposed to gain assistance in such matters? Oh yes. The FAQ. A long and really quite useless listing of answers to stupid questions any Richard Head would know. Yes I realise there are people out there not qualified to operate an alarm clock, but really ...

Answer:Software gone on Satellite A500 / Satellite A80 on net, but no pages avail

Hi mate

Your posting is really long and to be honest you are speaking about different issues?
That?s confusing?

Anyway? you asked if the notebook Sat A500 supports Bluetooth.
Well, if there is an BT label on the bottom of the unit then the BT module is installed.
In order to enable to BT you have to use the FN + F8 key combination. This helps to switch between the WLan and Bluetooth!
More detains are mentioned in user manual!

Regarding the preinstalled software:
I think the Picasa2 software is preinstalled and you should see an shortcut on the desktop.

Regarding the WLan connection:
The Wlan router supports an range of IP addresses and usually you could connect different devices to the Wlan router. The IP address would be assigned automatically.
So you could connect both notebooks as the same time!

Check your WLan router manual for more details!

What are the main differences between the L505-144, L555-11K and A500-1GL?

They are the same price and seem to be very similar, with only small differences in processing power, graphics card and sound.

Which is the best model?

Answer:Re: Differences between Satellite L505-144, L555-11K and Satellite A500-1GL

I think you should take a look on the Toshiba notebook specification page and should compare both notebooks:

*Satellite L505-144*

*Satellite A500-1GL*

Satellite L505-144 has been released in UK and the Satellite A500-1GL has been released in Germany.

The L505-144 supports faster and better CPU, it has been delivered with Win 7 32bit and 64bit. It supports the nVidia instead of ATI GPU but the HDD is smaller 320Gb instead of 500GB?

I've recovered my son's old A40 from Virus and spyware infections. Now I want to upgrade.

At present, I still have the old Bios and a 30GB 4200RPM IDE disk. (model n PSA45E-007N1-EN)
Is it like the A10 that accepts maximum 60GB drive or can I go bigger ?

One supplier suggests I stay at 4200RPM but to ask Toshiba what they recommend, so far no reply.
Any suggestions ?

Can anyone tell me what processors i can install in the laptop.

Thank you,

Answer:Satellite L40-15G - CPU upgrade question

You can use only the CPUs which are supported by chipset and BIOS.
As far as I know the Satellite L40/EQUIUM L40/Satellite Pro L40/Satellite L45 computer is equipped with an Intel Pentium Duo Processor or Intel Celeron M Processor.

These processors were built in:

Pentium Duo Processor (533MHz) 1.6GHz (T2060) /1.73GHz (T2080)/1.86GHz (T2090)/1.86GHz (T2130)

Celeron M Processor (533MHz) 1.73GHz (430) /1.86GHz

I think you can use these CPUs.

My Satellite A30-104 has recently come to the end of its warranty, and having had to open up the heatsink for cleaning and seeing that the CPU was accessible, I wonder if there is any (likely) scope for upgrading it.

The processor is a Celeron (Northwood) 2.6GHz. I'm not looking for more grunt, I'd prefer a lower-power chip, though the much larger L2 cache of a Pentium 4 is also desirable. I'd be very grateful if anyone could advise whether any upgrades are likely available, and if so which chips would be appropriate? If I can give any more useful spec information, please ask.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Question about CPU upgrade for Satellite A30-104?

Generally it?s not advisable to upgrade the CPU on the notebooks because nobody can say if the notebook will run properly and stable after the upgrade.
The heat and high temperature inside the notebook could be a serious problem.

Anyway, I think the notebook supports an Intel 852GME chipset.

The Intel 852GME chipset is optimized for the Mobile Intel Pentium 4 processor, features a 533 MHz system bus and up to 2 GB of high-speed DDR 333/266/200 memory.

But I?m not sure about the socket? it?s either 479 or 478

Hi there people.

I have upgraded the memory on my gf's quite old a60 laptop, but want to upgrade the cpu as well now as she is running the celeron 2.8.
The laptop manual says i can have the followng cpu's:

Intel celeron up to 2.8ghz (which i currently have)
Mobile intel pentium 4 processor up to 3.06 ghz
Mobile intel pentium 4 processor up to 3.2 ghz supporting htt

other processors may be introduced and a level 2 cache from 128kb to 1mb

I am trying to work out whether this means i can have the northwood 130nm 3.2ghz or whether i can have the prescott 90nm 3.2ghz.

If I could have the prescott, would I not be able to get the 3.46 ghz prescott?
As these cpus are quite hard to find, i am just checking to see if i can have any of these..., also how easy is it to get in and change the chip inside the laptop :D

While I am asking, is it worth upgrading the hard drive from 40gb 4200 rpm to a 7200 rpm one?

Many thanks for your time people

Answer:Satellite A60 - CPU upgrade question

I wouldn't install a Prescott, they get very hot! The cooling fan may not be able to keep the CPU cool.

Installing a Northwood would be the best option. Looking in google, it appears this laptop can definitely accept Northwood CPU's.

The jump from a Celeron to a Northwood is a big step. But from Northwood to Prescott is only a small step.

I would choose this one:

As for the HDD, 7200RPM drives can get hot and are noisy, and are not that much faster than a 5400RPM drive. A 5400RPM HDD would be the smart choice.

I have found out how easy it is to remove the current DVD Writer on my Satellite S70-A (10 seconds) so no problems there.

I see that there is a small lug at the back of the writer allowing the writer to be locked in place by the small bolt that holds the HDD/RAM cover in place

Can I buy a Blu Ray player which has this lug already fitted or I can I fit the lug afterwards?

Can anyone suggest a suitable Blu Ray player to buy as a direct replacement.

Answer:Question about Blu-ray upgrade on Satellite S70-A

Most of S70-A notebooks are offered with DVD-multi optical disc drives. Just few of them are offered with 9.5MM BD-ROM. Unfortunately I don't know which model of BD-ROM is this exactly.
It is not easy to find any information which model can be used on your machine.

I’m not 100% sure but it could be UJ162 UJ-162.

Let’s see if someone else can find exact info about that.

Anyway, in worst case you can order it and test it. if there is some problem simply send it back.

I am having a Toshiba Satellite A60 S-131 bought 2 years ago.
I want to know whether it is possible for me to upgrade the 40GB HDD to a higher capacity HDD(internal) and to upgrade my RAM from 512MB to higher.

Also I had already inserted a 256MB DDR RAM in the empty memory slot almost 1 year ago.

Help will be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A60-131: Question about HDD and RAM upgrade

Hi Pranjal,

You can definitley upgrade your hard drive to a larger capacity version. You should find that an 80Gb or 100Gb will work just fine. You will need to make sure that you obtain a new drive with the same physical characteristics as you existing one. The following link will help you to remove the hard drive.

You may also wish to get a new hard drive with a faster rotational speed (5400rpm or even 7200rpm).

I believe the maximum RAM for the A60 is 1.25Gb which comprises 1 X fixed module (I presume yours is 256Mb which means that you can install one further module of up to 1Gb capacity. RAM modules are available in 256Mb, 512Mb, and 1Gb capacities.

Answer:Question about HDD-upgrade on a Satellite A10

Hey there,

I think you should try it, because I think that machine was shipped with a maximum of 80GB, but I am not sure. You have the following options:

1. Buy a HDD with about 120GB. Test it, you cannot damage anything. If the drive would not be recognized then bring it back to the shop and try a HDD with less memory (100GB). Repeat the procedure, if the drive was recognized, hold it. :)
2. Buy a 80GB HDD, which is known to work in that machine. Thats the "secure" way.
3. Do nothing and buy a external USB-HDD. ;)

I hope I could give you some thoughts on your way.

Fact is if the BIOS will recognize the new HDD then you will not have any problems with recovering and the OS installation.

I would like to upgrade the standard HGST HDD to a faster Seagate SSHD, and the problem is that in this model L50-A-19N there is no HDD cover, the whole laptop bottom must be removed like in this Link: [Video|]

My question is can I upgrade the Disk by Myself and if not what can I do to replace the Disk not losing the warranty. I read the manual for this model and there is nothing about HDD upgrades there.

Answer:Satellite L50-A-19N HDD upgrade question

Usually on most notebook models HDD is placed at the bottom and access to it is not complicated. As you can see on your notebook model it is not so easy and HDD exchange is not supported. With other words it should not be done by notebook owner.

Valid warranty is very important so please don't do anything on your own. HDD exchange in your case can be done by authorized service provider. If they do this warranty will not be cancelled.

Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. Addresses and phone numbers you can find on

Good luck

I want to upgrade my notebook with a new CPU.
The (hardware) socket ist a 479. But when I ask Intel about my current CPU, it tells my that it is a 478.
The Chipset is an Intel 852/855 GM/GME, after Intel ChipsetUtility.

I am a little confused about the different data about the socket.
With CPUs will fit?

Answer:Satellite A10: CPU Upgrade question

I?m not sure about the CPU socket in the Satellite A10 but I use the tool called ?Everest home edition? and this tool provides all necessary information about the kind of socket and another important CPU info.

But as far as I know the Satellite A10 and Pro A10 was delivered with different hardware specifications and different CPU?s.
It seems the Intel Pentium 4-M and the Mobile Intel Celeron CPU are compatible:

Mobile Intel Pentium 4-M model
A 1.80/1.90/2.00/2.20GHz Pentium 4 processor with a 1.80/1.90/2.00/2.20/1.20GHz internal clock, 400MHz bus and 1.30/1.20V core operation
Mobile Intel Celeron model
A 1.80/2.00/2.20GHz Celeron processor with a 1.80/2.00/2.20GHz internal clock, 400MHz bus and 1.30V core operation

But I really don?t recommend the CPU upgrade.
As far as I know the microcode must be updated after the CPU and motherboard replacement. If you don?t update the microcode the CPU will run only at 600Mhz.

Be careful!

I got what i have to call a somehow big problem.
For a while now, my laptop (A500-14L) sometimes become too hot, and shut down automatically. I discovered it was specially the left side of the computer (i guess, display driver) which was burning up, and can sometimes manage to use the computer for a long time if i put it only half way on a table (left side on nothing...)

Today, i tried to buy a cooler (logitech), and tryed to play to starcraft 2... Well, i simply can't!!.... Cooler is not enough, and, according to a software i just downloaded, GPU fastly goes up to more than 100?C, or 230?F. It's far too hot i guess but, i don't know what to do ? What more than a cooler could I buy ? Is it usual ? My GPU is a Ati-Radeon 4650

Answer:Satellite A500 getting hot every day

Try to clean the cooling ventilators using a compressed air spray.
Dust and debris inside the fans might prevent the air from circulation which leads to higher temperature.

You should also use the Toshiba graphic card drivers instead of any other drivers from any 3rd party pages. The drivers from Toshiba page contains an GPU overheating protection which other drivers don?t.

I am trying to connect my Satellite A500-17X to my HD TV via HDMI Cable, but I keep getting No Signal appear on the TV screen.
Can someone tell me does this laptop support HD?
Can this laptop be connected to a TV?
Thank You.

Answer:Satellite A500-17X and HD TV

Yes, your laptop can be connected to TV. As you can see this notebook model is offered with HDMI port to allow you best video and audio signal transfer from your notebook to the TV.
HDMI port on your Satellite supports HDMI V1.3 (1080p).

Important is that you must enable right port on TV to get picture there.
So connect your notebook to the TV, enable video-in port (it can be HDMI1 or HDMI2, depending on TV) and use FN+F5 key combination to switch between notebook?s display and your TV.
In user?s manual should be explained how it works.

If you don?t have it you can download it HERE .

Hi all,

I am looking for some information on how to upgrade the RAM for my SATELLITE S3000-X4 (120MB RAM, 14GB HD I think!). Heres a little background...

This laptop is approx 5 years old, and I am hoping to speed it up a little. I dont not want to buy a new computer as it generally serves my needs.

I have cleared out my hard drive of unwanted programs and files. And I have run Jv16 Power Tools to clean the registry and minimise start up processes.

It is still a little slow and so I am considering upgrading the RAM as I believe I can do this for around ?50. My questions are:

What type of RAM upgrade should I look at buying? (Does this laptop have 2 RAM 'plug ins' or just one?)
What size of RAM upgrade is the maximum a S3000-X4 could cope with?
Could a novice like myself fit the upgrade DIY style?!

Thanks for any help you can offer!!

Hi, there

The minimum recommended memory for Windwows XP is 256 Mb and I do not understand how the company could get away selling notebook with 256 MB with built-in graphic adapter sharing the system memory.

Anyway, I want to upgrade my Toshiba and my intention is to buy additional 512 Mb memory, such as

Will it work properly with 768 Mb or shall I buy only the same pairs : 256+ 256, 512+ 512?

Thank you very much.

Answer:Question about memory upgrade on Satellite L20-181

Firstly you are not right. The Windows XP runs also with the lower memory value.
But of course, it depends on the memory if the OS applications will run faster or slower.

However, the fact is that you can upgrade the memory on you notebook and it doesn?t mater if the modules have the same memory value or not.
In this case the notebook was delivered with 256MB and you can install easeful the second 512MB memory module.

PS: I would recommend installing the 512MB in the first slot and the 256MB in the second bank.

I upgraded the ram last year and im running at top capacity for my model, 2.0gb.

This really helped for a while, but after a couple of heavy programmes were installed this year (one software, one game) ive noticed it running as slow as before, its worth noting that my computer passed all the spec needed for both apart from the game where im running on 1.7ghz and it needs at the very least 2.0ghz from the processor, and i am running on the slowest peformance speed from the game itself.

It currently has a pentium centrino, bearing in mind a new laptop is not in my budget, is it worth getting a new processor and which would be best?

Thanks again, Rebekah.

Answer:Satellite Pro L20-PSL25E - CPU upgrade question

My personal opinion is that Satellite L20 is not designed for heavy operations and it is definitely not gaming machine. If you compare price for Satellite A and Satellite L notebooks you will understand why. I am pretty sure this notebook is designed for Internet, Office and all simple ?every day? activities.

RAM upgrade is very good and I am sure it helps a lot but CPU upgrade is not the solution. CPU upgrade is not supported. You must also understand that every hardware platform is designed for optimal hardware activity. CPU, graphics, cooling system and other hardware components must work harmonic and without overheating. Stronger CPU means more heat.

In my opinion you should optimize preinstalled operating system in hope software you use will runs better and more stabile.

Maybe, in case the new CPU would be supported by chipset and BIOS, you?ve got good chances to upgrade the CPU.
But Toshiba as well as other notebook manufacturers don?t support such upgrade and therefore everything you do is your own risk!

First of all I would recommend you to get details about your chipset. On Intel ARK page you could check what CPUs would be supported by this chipset.
Fact is that this notebook series were equipped with the Intel Dual Core CPUs belonging to the Intel Arrandale CPU family. In case you want really try an new CPU, I would suggest you to choose one from this family.

But note: even if chipset would support new CPU, the BIOS might be one of the parts causing troubles. Unfortunately I did not find any information what CPUs might be supported by BIOS

I am the proud owner of a Toshiba Satellite A110-153 that I've had for a couple of years.
I'm interested in upgrading RAM but came across this controversy.

1. Internal Memory expansion module sizes are 256, 512, 1024 MB.
2. Maximum Internal Memory is 4Gb
3. 2 Memory Slots.

Now I'd like to upgrade my laptop to the maximum 4Gb RAM, but how can I do this when I'm not allowed to use 2x 2Gb modules?

Is it humanely possible to upgrade my laptop to 4Gb?

Answer:Satellite A110-153: RAM upgrade question

If you want to upgrade the RAM to max 4GB then you have to use 2 x 2GB RAM modules!

The notebook should handle the DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM modules

But note; the 4GB RAM can be used only by 64bit OS!!!
Win XP or Vista 32bit would recognize only 3.2GB!!!

I have an A120-107 that I'm generally pleased with but the hard drive is far too small and I'm thinking of upgrading to around 100GB. What do I need to look for when buying? Any suggestions on the best drive to get? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Answer:Satellite Pro A120-107: Question about HDD upgrade

Hi there,

you just have to take care, that you purchase a Sata drive in the "Form Factor" 2.5". Thats everything.
Like I know, the biggest drive wich was shipped with this machine was a 120GB SATA drive.

Regarding the manufacturer: Feel free to take every manufacturer which you like. The best would be Toshiba at all ;)

my satellite 1110-z14 has an intel mobile celeron @ 1,5 ghz. The cpu is based on p4 architecture - it should be a northwood-256.
Is there any chance to upgrade the cpu?

The 1110-z20 is powered by the mobile celeron @ 2,0 ghz - all other technical specs except the harddisc are the same... (ati radeon mob m6 with 16mb, usb 1.1 and so on...).

What do you think, can i upgrade the cpu?
Which cpu's can i use?

thx for your answers!

Answer:Question about CPU upgrade for Satellite 1110-Z14

As far as I know the 1110 series computer is equipped with an Intel 845MZ system controller.
I found on the Intel page some details about the Intel 845MZ chip set. It should handle the Mobile Intel Pentium 4 processor - M with 400 MHz FSB
On the Intel page you can find the whole CPU family.

But generally the CPU replacement and upgrade is not advisable and nobody can say if the OS will run stable after such upgrade? Therefore be careful.

Hello, i'm from greece and i'm new here, i know im newbe..

I have toshiba Satellite A200-23q (motherboard: intel gm965, cpu: t5550 (1,8ghz) )...

Resently i bought Intel T7500 (2,2ghz)..
Can i upgrade this laptop with this cpu?? What bios can i updated it to?

Sorry for my language mistakes...

Answer:Satellite A200-23Q - Cpu upgrade question

Usually the CPU upgrade is not advisable.
First of all the BIOS which was developed for this unit, has not been tested with different CPUs and in worst case the BIOS will not be compatible with the new CPU.

The Chipset should support this CPU;

Chapter 1.1.1 Processor Support:
The chipset supports the Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processors 533Mhz and 800Mhz FSB support.

The Intel? Core?2 Duo Processor T7500 supports 800 MHz FSB so it should be supprted by chipset.

But once again; there are other reasons why the CPU upgrade should not be done;
The BIOS is one reason.
The second reason is the higher heat dissipation which would be created by stronger CPU? this could affect the notebook functionality as well.

i have a Toshiba Satelite A100-200 i want to upgrade to 4 gb.
I'm thinking of installing 2x 2GB kingston kvr667d2s5/2g 667mhz pc 5300 ddr2.

Every time i do a check on websites it tells me to install PC24200 ddr2 533.
Will the above work the same as the 4200 ddr2 533hz as the ones i want to put in are a lot cheaper.

Will both sets of ram pergorm exactly the same as long as they are paired.

Answer:Satellite A100-200 RAM upgrade question

Everything depends on your FSB (front side bus).
If the FSB supports 667Mhz then the inserted PC5300 667Mhz modules will run with full performance (667Mhz).

But if the FSB supports only 533Mhz then the RAM modules will run only at 533Mhz even you would use the faster modules (PC5300)

So what you should do is to check the FSB value. You can install a hardware diagnostic tool (i.e Everest home edition) in order to check the FSB.

I have a Sat A60 Laptop with a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive. I want to upgrade to a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. I understand I have the choice between UJDA-750 and the SD-R2512. Can anyone offer a preference and will I need firmware / drivers for these to work?
Is it simply a matter of just replacing the unit?

Answer:Satellite A60: Question about CD-RW drive upgrade

I presume that the better idea is to have DVD burner. In this case there is possibility to burn all CDs and DVD formats. I have found info that A60 is also delivered with super-multi drive (TEAC DV-W24E) and this should be also compatible with your A60.

For functionality the firmware is not relevant as drive compatibility.

Just want to know, can i change my 250GB, 8MB, 5400rpm SATA HDD in my laptop with this one
HDD 500.0 GB WESTERN DIGITAL Scorpio Blue 5000BEVT, SATA, 8MB c., 5400 rpm

Will it work, or should i better ask, will my laptop recognize it??

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1mt - HDD upgrade question

I think the notebooks BIOS should recognize the new HDD.
The new HDD is a SATA HDD and this is most important thing.

You need a SATA 2.5? HDD!
The size and the speed are not really important because the new SATA controller should handle such HDD trouble free.

I have a satellite A40 that I have recently fitted a new motherboard to. Everything is now working perfectly, and I am considering changing the CDRW/DVD drive for a dvd writer.

The current drive is a panasonic UJDA750. I am planning on replacing this with a UJ-850 for the dvd writer. Could anybody please inform if this is a good drive to go for any alternate suggestions, and if I will need any different drivers for the drive to work or should it just be a straight swap out.

Answer:Satellite A40: Question about UJ-850 DVD drive upgrade

Before you will buy an slim drive you have to be sure that this drive is compatible with the A40 Satellite.
There is a big difference between external drives for desktop PC and notebooks drives.
The master/slave/c-sel settings on the slim drives are fixed and not changeable.

If you will buy a slim drive with wrong settings the BIOS will not recognize the drive and you will get an IDE #1 error.

I would recommend contacting the authorized service provider in your country and ask the guys for compatible DVD writer for you A40.

As compatible DVD-R/RW drive you could use the Toshiba SD-R6112 or DVD?RW drive Pioneer G8CC0001L810.
I found also some compatible DVD-Multi (CD-R/RW DVD-RAM/R/RW) drives:
Panasonic G8CC00019810
TEAC G8CC00013810

Sorry for the strange numbers but I assume this are Toshiba part numbers.
Try to google. Maybe you will find a whole name.

Is it possible to change it with any type or not?

Answer:Satellite A200-13O: RAM upgrade question

You have to use the DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM memory modules. Usually it?s no matter what RAM manufacture it is. It?s only important that you would use the right memory modules which support the right specifications.

By the way; you can also order the right memory module from the Toshiba ASP. Just contact the ASP technician and ask for the compatible parts.

2.If there is not can I put off the DVD hard drive and in the empry space to fit a ssd drive? I will need something like that? ----> fb4d
This is an adapter.

3.How much max memory RAM support the Satellite L500D? I have already installed 2GB and I have an extra socket and I want to install a single 4GB RAM and total 6GB RAM

Its sounds this idea good to you? Thank you very much and have a nice day

Answer:Satellite L500D - SSD and RAM upgrade question

As you can see on bottom side of the notebook it doesn?t support a second HDD because there is no second HDD bay on bottom side.
The adapter that you posted is not an official one so nobody can say if it?s compatible part or not. As far as I know for Satellite notebooks there is no CD/DVD bay adapter but you can ask an authorized service provider for further details.

The maximum RAM capacity is depending on your exact notebook model. L500D was delivered with different hardware so you must post your exact notebook model number.

1- I have a Ram with Buss 533 512 MB DDR2, if i changed it to Buss 667 2 GB Ram does it downgrade to 533 buss & works fine & not cuz troubles & be stable in my laptop or not?

2- what's the maximum Ram Sizes & Busses that can my laptop deal with it ?

plz replay quickly cuz i have problems in Rams upgrades thx

Answer:Satellite A110-195 Ram upgrade question

What does the user manual say about the RAM upgrade?
Usually such info is always mentioned in user manuals?

But generally you have to know that RAM upgrade depends on the chipset.
The chipset FSB (front side buss) is important for RAM speed.
If the FSB supports only 533Mhz then your RAM modules would run max with 533Mhz speed even than the RAM modules would support a faster speed; ie 667Mhz.

Do the BIOS recognize the HDD correctly?

Possibly the HDD size is too large and therefore you?ve got some troubles with the notebook.

Fact is that not all HDD sizes are supported and the BIOS does not recognize all HDDs if the size is too large. Therefore you should try an smaller HDD?

can anyone reassure me I am buying the correct, and best RAM for my 2 Satellites. One is the P100-423.
The other is Satellite Pro P100.

1) Can I use PC2 5300 DDR2 SO DIMM 200 pin modules - 667 Mhz in both machines.
I want to buy 4x 1 GB chips (all the same), so both PC's will have 2 Gig ram.

2) I have seen the above chips with 533 Mhz, but I have been told I can use this or the 667 Mhz. Is this correct?
667 Mhz would be faster and preferable would it not?

3) Some chips also are designated PC2 - 4200 - rather than PC2-5300. Again, can I use either?

4) Finally, I always thought it was best to fit 2 ram chips of the same size -which is why I want to use 2x 1 GB chips.
Yet I have been recommended to fit 1 x 1GB and 1x 2 GB in each pc.
I know a total of 4 Gig is theoretical ie only 3.25Gb is possible.
But will the unbalanced formation offer much greater performance over the balance 2x 1GB formation. ?

Many thanks for any advice offered

Answer:Question about RAM upgrade on Satellite P100-423

Using slower RAM is possible. I have a other notebook at work with 4200 iso 5300. It runs ok.

However using the exact speed is better because this gives the best performance. The timing of your system is tuned to these memories.

Nevertheless slower modules but more RAM will still give you an improved performance.

3G seems to be the max for Vista-32. The unbalance is of course not optimal but still I expect the performance is better then with 2GB.

I think it wouldn?t be a problem to use a bigger HDD like 200GB or 250GB.

The Sat P100 supports an SATA HDD controller and therefore you should use the SATA 2.5? HDD.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-803 laptop at the moment. There is an Intel Core 2 Duo T5200 cpu in it and it is a bit slow. It also doesn't support VT-x extensions.

My idea is to build a simple hobby-server which should run Gentoo with Xen on it. I can buy an Intel Core 2 Duo T7600, but there are two things I would like to know.

1. Does the bios support the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600?
2. If it does support the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600, is there any way to use the VT-x extensions?

Answer:Re: Satellite A100-803 - CPU Upgrade question

>1. Does the bios support the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600?
This is not known to me but you should check if the chipset would support the the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600. If the chipset does not support this CPU then you cannot use this CPU in your A100. but if the chipset would support the new CPU then you?ve good chances to use this part.

>2. If it does support the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600, is there any way to use the VT-x extensions?
Hmm? this is a good question; as far as I know the BIOS needs to support the VT-x feature in order to use this? of course the CPU should support this too? so I think that the VT-x should be available if the upgrade to Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 would be successful?

What are the limits to upgrade my Satellite P10 Notebook? Currently I use 1GB RAM (2x512) and I still have the original 60GB 4200/min HDD. Mainly I'm interested in upgrading my harddrive to get at least one 100GB 7200/min drive. Best would be one of the 24h server ones like the Hitachi HTE721010G9AT00, as I hardly power off my computer. Which one to take and are there any limits (BIOS) (keeping in mind that there will be 200 and even 250GB drives next year)?

About the RAM: Should I put two 200pin SO-DIMM in 333 or 533 or shouldn't I change at all as it works fine and stabil now?

you have to use DDR SODIMM memory with 333MHz.

Hi everyone,

after few years I decided to spend some money to upgrade the RAM.
Now, I am quite stuck to understand what to do.

I have always known that my notebook may be upgraded to 8GB.
I also have many references for this information:

- model: Satellite A300-1Q PSAGCE-07000QIT

I physically checked the slots: there are currently two slots of 2GB each.
As non-expert, I thought that the most logic way to upgrade such a configuration is to buy other two chips of 4GB each to reach the 8GB.

However, it seems that this combination is not feasible becasue I do not find it (I checked on Kingston and Amazon website). The RAM upgrade I would like to achieve is:
-800 Mhz

If this can be of help I jot down all the data on the other two RAM modules:
2GB 2Rx8 PC2-64005-666-12-Z3
800 Mhz DDR2-SDRAM

Can anybody help me to figure out what to do for upgrading the RAM to 8GB?

Many thanks,

Answer:Satellite A300-1QP - RAM upgrade question

The notebook was equipped with the Intel GM45 Express chipset and according to Intel ARK page this Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset is able to handle the 8GB RAM
The chipset seems to support the 667MHz / 800MHz / 1066MHz modules

If you want to upgrade the RAM up to 8GB RAM, the best option would be the usage of 2 x 4GB SO-DIMM (DDR2 800Mhz) modules
The present modules has to be removed and replaced with two 4GB modules.

Usually you can use different brand modules but cheap modules can cause many different and strange issue. Therefore I would recommend you to purchase good quality modules like Kingston, Toshiba, etc?

I have Toshiba Satellite L300-1A3.
Its performance good.
But the futre if i change cpu, how is supported Core2Duo series?

Thank you very much.

Answer:Satellite L300-1A3 - CPU upgrade question

The CPU upgrade is not supported by Toshiba and nearly all other notebook manufacturers.
Generally you should know that the notebooks components like CPU or GPU are not upgradeable.

In most cases the graphic card is soldered on motherboard. The CPU upgrade is more complicated and tricky because of different reasons.
The main reason would be the heat dissipation. The stronger CPU produces more warmness which can affect the notebook functionality.
In other case the CPU could be not supported by BIOS and in worst case the notebook would not boot up?.

So if you want to upgrade the computer components in the future with new CPU or better graphic chip then you shouldn?t buy a notebook but a desktop PC!

That?s my personal opinion

Hi, new to this forum.
I tried to find a direct contact to ask this, but could not locate any email options on the website, only phone numbers, which aren't an option right now as I have other obligations during business hours at the moment.

I'm a computer technician of 30 years and have today purchased a new Satellite Pro R50-C PS566A-004001 with an i7-5500U, 8GB of RAM and 1TB HDD Notebook for a customer of mine. He has requested an additional 8GB of RAM, which I purchased at the same time from my wholesaler. On opening the box I discovered there is no access to the memory slots or the Hard Drive. The Toshiba Website states in the specs that the RAM is expandable to 16GB, but it appears the back cover has to be fully removed to gain access. I would like to check if I remove the back cover will this void the warranty. The specifications on the Toshiba website do not state that it is not user accessible to change the RAM, where as from the research I did for the customer, other cheaper models do state this. I have sold Toshiba and other brands Notebooks in the past and have always ensured that the specifications for the laptop did not say the RAM was non user accessible, and as such that I would be able to upgrade the RAM as customers request.

As above, I just wish to check that upgrading the RAM on this laptop will not void the Toshiba warranty, since the specifications do state that the laptop is expandable to 16GB of RAM, and do not state that it is not user accessible/u... Read more
