I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Microsoft temporarily suspends Windows 10 preview build availability ahead of RTM

Quote:

The Windows 10 RTM (release to manufacturing) milestone is close at hand.

On July 13, Microsoft temporarily suspended availability of Windows 10 for PC preview builds in preparation for the upgrade process, which commences July 29.

"Windows Insiders have been the first to see our work on Windows 10 at every stage. Now you will also be the first to get a build flighted to you using the channels that we'll use for targeting and deploying to PCs for our staged rollout," said Gabe Aul, head of the Windows 10 Insider program in a July 13 update to a previous blog post.

More from Aul:"We're suspending the availability of Windows 10 builds briefly while we prepare for that (rollout), and the next build that we flight to you will be delivered using the production channels. Starting tomorrow (July 14), we will also not be delivering any additional ISOs at this point as we really need Insiders to be using, stressing, and validating our distribution and upgrade processes. We'll make ISOs available again in the future, but for now we ask you to upgrade your current build via Windows Update once the next build is released."

Windows 10 is a little over a week away and the hype train is in full motion. Microsoft on Sunday published a video primarily targeting those that might still be grappling with the idea of upgrading to its new operating system.

Answer:Microsoft kicks off Windows 10 countdown with "10 Reasons to Upgrade" video series

Yeah, Windows 10 <b>literally</b> combines start menu and tiles...exactly what <b>nobody</b> asked for. We wanted tiles on the desktop, ala a new breed of gadgets. The obvious goal is to keep pushing people towards the start screen and limited, dumbed-down mobile apps on the PC. Yeah..not gonna happen. Windows 10 will tank just as bad if not worse than Windows 8 due to Microsoft's obsession with copying all of the competitions <I>worst</I> aspects.

Microsoft today said it will deliver a single security update on Tuesday to patch just one vulnerability in Windows.

However, the company acknowledged that it does not yet have a fix for a crippling bug in Windows 7 that went public nearlytwo months ago. The expected update will patch a vulnerability rated "critical" --

Microsoft's most serious rating in its four-step scoring system -- in Windows 2000. The bug also affects Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, as well as Windows Server 2003, Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2, but is tagged as "low" for those editions.

Microsoft downplayed the threat even to Windows 2000 users. "The Exploitability Index rating for this issue will not be high, which lowers the overall risk," said Jerry Bryant, a Microsoft security spokesman, in a post to the company's security
response center blog today. Date: 7 January 2010

Windows 9 will reportedly have new activation methods that will tie the OS more closely with a specific PC

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will unveil Windows 9 this fall, claims notorious Russian leaker WZor, who has a pretty good track record. In a Russian language post on Ru-Board, the leaker said that the upcoming update to Windows 8 will be the last major overhaul of the existing OS. Microsoft is expected to launch the Windows 8 Update 2 in August.

Windows 9 to have new activation methods

WZor claimed that Microsoft will back the launch of Windows 9 with heavy advertising blitzkrieg and a new distribution method. The new activation methods will tie a copy of Windows 9 more closely with a specific PC. It will require the user to log in to Microsoft Store, and users won&#8217;t be given an activation key. Talking about Windows 8, WZor said that there will be new updates after the Update 2 due next month. But no new features will be added to it.

Motivation behind the new activation method is &#8220;problems in China.&#8221; The world&#8217;s most populous country recently banned Windows 8. Notably, a couple of weeks ago, WZor claimed that Microsoft may announce Windows 9 at its Worldwide Partner Conference, which begins July 13 in Washington D.C. That claim was missing in the latest report, but WZor reassured us that the new OS will be launched this fall. However, he only talked about the announcement, without revealing whether it will be a Developer... Read more

Answer:Microsoft to Force Microsoft Store Account to Activate Windows 9

Not sure how logging into the store ties the OS more specifically to a computer. Doesn't seem right at all. However, if it is only logging onto the Microsoft Store to activate, and not forcing a Microsoft account to use the computer, I can see that being okay. As long as the local account continues to be an option, things will be fine. If I'm forced to use a Microsoft account to use my computer... I'll stay on 8.1. And then maybe move to Linux.

Transformation of UI is already being done in 8.1 Update 1. No surprise that it would be further enhanced.

Launch of 9 wouldn't put an end to 8. And let's face it, Microsoft never lost its dominance on the desktop market. There is nothing for them to re-establish here. The only thing they need to establish is a stronger presence in the mobile market.

Description
Microsoft released a security update on January 3, 2018 to insure compatibility of a Windows updates related to CPU security flaw (Meltdown) with anti-virus software products (see Microsoft Security Bulletin KB4072699).

Fortinet tested the latest active FortiClient software versions 5.4.4 and 5.6.3 and found them fully compatible with Microsoft's January 2018 Security Update.

It safe to use these versions with the security update.
Solution
Microsoft requires that the following registry key exist on all compatible systems, even if there is no AV product installed:
Key="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"Subkey="SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\QualityCompat"
Value Name="cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc"
Type="REG_DWORD?
Data="0x00000000?
With the latest active FortiClient versions 5.4.4 and 5.6.3, it will be required to add this key manually, or using Group Policy, in order to receive the January 3, 2018 security update.

Fortinet will release new versions of FortiClient prior to January 9, which will add the required registry key automatically.Click to expand...

Microsoft is reportedly putting the finishing touches on the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which is slated to arrive on August 2. The report comes from Windows Central, saying that build 14384 should be the first RTM (release to manufacturing) build.

The company has begun the sign-off process for the build, which means that it will put a variety of builds through internal tests, and then it will pick the best one for a public release.

According to the report, Insiders can expect to see a final build by the end of next week. The timeline isn't surprising. With the Anniversary Update less than a month away, we should certainly be in the polishing phase.

The fate ofWindows phones that are ineligible for the Anniversary Update is still undetermined. Such unsupported devices have had a sort of "upgrade at your own risk" option through the Release Preview ring. These users will be unable to install the Anniversary Update, but it's not clear if build 10586 will remain available for them.

The report also states that the Redstone 2 (Rs2) builds that Microsoft is compiling are in the 148xx range, and should begin shipping to Insiders in mid-to-late August. The Redstone 2 update isn't slatedto arrive for the public until April, 2017.

If someone really wants the high end $2179 version of the Lenovo Helix, and lives near a physical Microsoft Store, you might stop by and check the price. While it is on sale for $1799 on the web site, it was marked at either $1399 or $1499 in the Scottsdale store. Sorry, I didn't pay too much attention, hence the statement it was one of those two prices. It, however, was certainly not a typo since all three demos had the same sales tag and they were definitely all the high end model.

Last week I built a PC for a friend with a lot of help from people at [H]ardforum. Here is the build:
http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1036262848&postcount=6

When I gave him the PC a week ago, it was working great. Windows cold boot-up was ~30 seconds, and shutdown was ~3 seconds. All the programs worked fine and as far as I could tell there was no problem with the system. That is, until he installed Microsoft's updates earlier this week. The update appears to have really done a number on his PC. It wouldn't load the OS, and he attempted to fix the problem but was unsuccessful.

I asked him to write out what happened to I could post it here (he uses Gmail). This is what he wrote:

A couple of days ago he informed me that following Windows updates of Office 2007 Service Pack 2, his machine wasn't able to boot past the Windows startup screen. He first tried repairing it, then restoring it to the point before the update - that's actually how he was able to identify the update causing the problem. Then, after identifying the update, he could no longer restore the PC. From that point he tried reinstalling Windows 7 from the DVD. However, the install was only partially successful, in that the PC rarely reaches the desktop and usually gets stuck at startup. When he tried to boot to safe mode, he found that it gets stuck at the Classpnp.sys file. Now he is not able to get into safemode, nor is he able to get onto the desktop. He is wondering if it's ... Answer:Built computer for a friend last week; Windows updates this week ruined boot-up

Reset the CMOS, that may sort out the PNP issue. Maybe not though.

I've had similar problems with one of my machines (my sig rig) but not another (my HTPC) so I don't know what the important factors are. The issues with my sig rig sorted themselves out eventually after a month or two ignoring the updates and not letting them install. I can't recall which ones proved the issue for me, but I also had to do quite a few system restores over that period.

Best of luck.

I could access the store with my Comcast account.. a great PR move on Microsoft's part. as most providers use all operations systems anyways for their customers..

Answer:Microsoft should allow Local accouts access to Microsoft/Windows Store for local accunts

You can already selectively sign into the apps like the store, groove, film and music etc.
I use a local account and i can download apps + games as i have only signed into the store.
When signing into a Windows System App such as Groove or Store, choose to sign-in into that app only - it is the option written in semi grey text.

Hi,

The Microsoft Store on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 14 / Windows 10 version 1607) does not work. A screen capture is included in this post. The issue started a few weeks ago, before the last few updates. I have attempted several fixes that I have found on the Internet, all with no success. I have done the clear and reset fix - i.e. wsreset.exe. I have done several power shell command fixes with no success. The last thing I did was a system file system check - i.e. sfc /scannow and everything was fine. The issue occurs even on a newly created user. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ricardo

Posting this here as both a question and FYI for anyone that may run into this in the future. Last November, I purchased Windows 10 Pro (full retail) from the Microsoft Store as a digital download. I found it strange that they did not send me a key, so no problem I'll just use Produkey to extract it and store it somewhere safe if I ever have to do a re-install.

Well fast forward to yesterday. I recently built a new system (specs in sig), and to make a long story short I went through LITERAL HELL with Microsoft to get this re-activated. The key I extracted from the previous install was blocked due to the hardware changes. I think.. oh ok, no problem.. I'll just activate by phone.... WRONG. It still failed. I ended up calling Microsoft support, got transferred 4 times, and finally got to a nice young lady that remoted into my machine and fixed the issue for me and got the system activated.

So upon further research.. Microsoft has changed the way they do the licensing a bit for Windows 10. I have what I believe is called a "digital entitlement" which is basically locked to the hardware it was installed on. At first they told me I would have to buy another copy of Windows 10 and I was furious and demanded a supervisor, at which point they realized I had bought a legitimate copy and proceeded with getting it activated. This may be old news for some, but posting my experience and what I uncovered anyhow.

So here's my question.. is the Produkey method ... Read more

Answer:Windows 10 Microsoft Store purchase - where's the key?

The product key is likely a generic key because as you said the licensing is done via digital entitlement. It's very similar to how product keys on OEM activated computers are basically generic, place-holder keys.

The nice part about digital entitlement is that you can reinstall without typing in a key, you just skip they key and if the system was already activated the new install will activate as well. The bad part, as you encountered, is that the store purchase, just like the free Windows 10 upgrades, you don't actually get a key if you want to move it (if you're even legally able to).

Regarding your issue, when you bought the 10 license originally did you see a EULA that mentioned transferring to a new computer?

I just tried to find some EULA information for the version of 10 purchased from their store and I cannot find any. I really don't know what the restriction is for transferring.

Hello, I was receiving an error whenever I attempted to install an application via the Microsoft Store after receiving my brand new Surface Book. I found a fix to my specific issue here. The relevant bits are:

Code:
As you are unable to install an app from the Windows store, I suggest you to try the below and check if it helps.Method 1: Run WSReset.exe .

Press Windows+R key to open Run boxEnter wsreset.exe in the Run command and then tap or click OK.Restart your computer and check.
If resetting Windows Store cache does not help. Try the below,
Method 2: Re-register Windows Store by running the following commands in a CMD window started as Administrator:

Was at the Microsoft Store today and they had a Windows 8 preview on a Samsung tablet. Amazing is the last word I would use. It was incredible. No way this translates well for a desktop, but it certainly works well on the tablet. Not to say it won't be nice, just not the same great experience as on the tablet. Not to mention while I was there, one of the store reps greeted the customers to a demonstration, which I thought was pretty good marketing. Just thought I'd share.

Many Windows 10 users are facing Store related issues as can be seen in various forums. Microsoft Windows Store team has also identified some of the top Store related issues and is working on their diagnosis and fixes.
Some of the Store issues being identified and mentioned by the Windows Store quality team in Answers are : Store launch failures : When you click on Store app to open, it just opens for a moment and closes or not opening at all. App updates not completing or downloads getting stuck : While downloading new apps or updating existing apps from the Windows Store, one may notice that the app download stops in between without completing or the download appears to be persistently stuck at “Pending”. “Server Stumbled" error VCLibs system libraries being downloaded multiple times.Store is missing error
So Microsoft Windows Store team has identified these top Store issues and is working on to fix them. Microsoft appreciating the users patience is working on the details to determine and deploy fixes. It will be posted or informed as soon these are ready. Are there any ways to block the Microsoft store on Windows 10 Pro now that the official method by Microsoft was removed with the anniversary update? Or at the very least, is there a way to stop people from downloading and installing apps? Even though the user is logged on as a User, not Administrator, they can still install the app (but not traditional software executables). Is there a way I can maybe do this on the network level by blocking ports?

I do have some Enterprise licenses but I would rather not have to waste them if the computer already comes with Windows 10 Pro.

"Full of" may be a little strong (maybe not).
But you have to be careful where ever you shop. There is a post over at the JRiver Media Center forum about a guy RAMESH NAGALLA who is selling JRiver for $3.99 - and bunch of other programs that he doesn't own. Apparently he has a lot of software for sale (JRiver, Zoom Player, Tomb Raider, etc.) that he doesn't have licensing agreement for.

I am a windows insider. I have been complaining about their "modern apps" failures for 6 months now. Most people tried to shut me up by saying they were test releases. But as we got closer and closer, I escalated more and more including Satya Nadella and Gabe Aul. They seemed to come out with bandaid fixes but never addressed the root cause. While the store is likely to stabilize over time, you can look forward to problems with other modern apps like "People", "Microsoft Money (Finance)", and other apps that are the ones generally supporting live tiles. Mail and calendar have not been resistant to this problem. While I suspect that data in your users/appdata folder is getting corrupted, windows folks in Redmond have been keeping mum about this issue. So sorry for your experience with Windows 10. I can tell you that classic apps seems to be pretty rock solid. In my opinion, only when Microsoft starts debugging with tracing and a sniffer on their network do they have a chance of resolving this. My experience is that they keep recoding and hope it goes away. Best of lu... Read more

First, I am not sure whether this is the correct discussion, sorry if it is not.
The problem: Two days ago I bought the app Oxford Hachette French Dictionary from the Microsoft Store using their web page. I have confirmation that the payment has gone through and that I am the "owner".
I attempted to download the app, clicking on the button on the web page, whence Store opened. The app appears to have downloaded and Install starts, but then there is an error Code: 0x87AF000B. I have done this several times just in case.
In the "elevated" cmd prompt, I have entered
net stop wuauserv | move "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old" | net start wuauserv
then rebooted the computer. This made no difference to downloading the purchased app so I reversed what I had done. [ | is standing for carriage return or enter]
I ran WSReset.exe. The result was "ms-windows:store:PurgeCaches | Package could not be registered."
I'm scared to go further in case I make the situation worse.
Please would someone advise how to make MS Store downloads work.
Thanking you in advance for your answer/s
regards
JanetW

Does anyone know how to get them all into one folder? I've tried..

Answer:How to find games I've downloaded from Microsoft Store (Windows 10)

If they are xbox app games they are listed and can be launched via the xbox app.

For a list of all your downloaded app games, click the store app, click your account photo on the upper right of your screen and click "my library", all your game downloads will be there, you can then click on a game and then click open to play it.

If a person has apps from the Microsoft store, do they have to be repurchased if you reinstall Windows 8 or are they like Apple's App Store where there is no cost to reinstall?

Microsoft officials say the latest Windows 10 cumulative update fixes problems some users were having with Windows Store. What else is in it? We have no idea.

The newest cumulative update is KB3081438. The Microsoft Support page says nothing about the specific features and fixes that are new to this update beyond "This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality of Windows 10."

Article

Answer:Microsoft's third Windows 10 cumulative update said to fix Store issues

"This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality"
Any update with a vague description like that should be considered suspicious. If I were offered an update worded like that for my windows 8.1 machine I would definitely refuse it, if they won't say what it is for it is either not important or not pleasant. Remember that this is the sort of language which was the wording used for the KB page of kb3035583 when it was first released (it's page has been updated since to give a more accurate description of what it does, but when that update first came out it's page was all vague like that).

Hi guys!

I'm having this problem since yesterday, and I can't find anyone with the same problem.
I have this problem where no microsoft applications work. I can't open Edge, Windows Store or Photos app. When I want to open them, there is absolutely 0 response. No error-message, nothing! When I observe the task manager while starting these apps, they DO appear for like, 1 second. They immediately disappear though.
I don't know what the issue is. I have this problem since I installed the application: SaferVPN (I already uninstalled it).
Ou yea, my Windows search doesn't work either. No reaction from the system at all.

I already tried running sfc /scannow.
My computer is up to date.
There were no windows updates involved at the point of time where the problem occurred.
I tried restarting windows several times.

I run Windows 10 for quite a long time now. Also, when I want to add a Microsoft Account, it give no response either. (I think thats because it usually opens a small Edge Browser Windows for entering the credentials.

Can you guys please help me? I usually find my solutions in already existing forums, but I didn't find anyone who had the same problem as me (perhaps I didn't google the right thing and couldn't find it because of that.)

Thanks for anything in advance.
Kind Regards,
Maarten

Just like it happened in Windows 8, Windows 10 requires users to log in with a Microsoft account in order to install apps from the Store, but this is no longer valid for those whose computers are powered by the Pro SKU of the operating system.

German website WIndowsArea has discovered that Microsoft suddenly made a policy change that makes it possible for Windows 10 Pro users to install apps from the Windows Store without the need for a Microsoft Account.

There are some limitations though. First of all, only freeware applications can be installed, so if you want to purchase an app, an account is still required.

Then, if you?re trying to update a paid application that?s already installed on your Windows 10 device, an account is once again needed.

Why the change?
Microsoft hasn?t explained why exactly it made this change, but given the fact that it concerns the Pro version of the operating system, it?s not difficult to see that the company specifically targeted companies that are trying to get more control over what users install on their systems.

On the other hand, it?s not yet clear if the Enterprise SKU of Windows 10 can also install apps without a Microsoft account because reports in this regard are still mixed, with some claiming that it works, while others indicating that it doesn?t.

Without a doubt, installing apps from the Windows Store without an account can boost adoption of Store apps, but we?ve reached out to Microsoft to find out if this is inde... Read more

Question: Time to celebrate!

REDMOND, Wash. — Aug. 23, 2013 — Microsoft Corp. today announced that Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer has decided to retire as CEO within the next 12 months, upon the completion of a process to choose his successor. In the meantime, Ballmer will continue as CEO and will lead Microsoft through the next steps of its transformation to a devices and services company that empowers people for the activities they value most.

“There is never a perfect time for this type of transition, but now is the right time,” Ballmer said. “We have embarked on a new strategy with a new organization and we have an amazing Senior Leadership Team. My original thoughts on timing would have had my retirement happen in the middle of our company’s transformation to a devices and services company. We need a CEO who will be here longer term for this new direction.”

The Board of Directors has appointed a special committee to direct the process. This committee is chaired by John Thompson, the board’s lead independent director, and includes Chairman of the Board Bill Gates, Chairman of the Audit Committee Chuck Noski and Chairman of the Compensation Committee Steve Luczo. The special committee is working with Heidrick & Struggles International Inc., a leading executive recruiting firm, and will consider both external and internal candidates.

“The board is committed to the effective transformation of Microsoft to a successful devices and services company,” Thompson said. “As this work ... Read more

I find it perplexing that Microsoft still hasn't considered adding the ability to share Windows Store apps between all accounts on a shared PC like a family desktop. There are several feedback items in the Feedback Hub calling for sharing options ranging from sharing apps across accounts added on the PC to sharing with accounts added as your family on all your PCs.
Consider a simple scenario. I own Quantum Break on the Windows Store through my Xbox One Pre-order. Now I would like to install the game on my family desktop and be able to have it playable on other user accounts on my PC. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't make this a straight forward process like it is on platforms like Xbox One or Steam. The only way you can do it is by adding all other accounts to your family and then changing the Windows Store account on all those accounts to my Microsoft Account.
I don't have to state how archaic this whole process is. Given how much Microsoft is promoting Xbox Play Anywhere these days, they really should focus on making these basic scenarios simple first. As it stands, I cant convince anyone in my circle of family and friends to invest in the Xbox ecosystem if it cant deliver these features which steam has had for years.

Answer:Why hasn't Microsoft implemented Windows Store app sharing between accounts on a single PC?

I'm sincere: first time I herd that. Accounts were created for differentiate people on the same machine, avoiding damages or interferences.
On desktops, when you install most apps / progs , if you choose Custom install instead of Fast, it will ask sooner or later "Applies on your account or all accounts"

Came across this by accident after just watching a video. Haven't seen any post about it on this forums so, here it is. You simply press the following combination of keyboard keys, and Edge, or any other Windows Store application instantly enters full-screen mode:Ctrl + Win + Enter
Press the same combination of keyboard keys to exit full-screen mode, or hover you mouse pointer to the top right corner of your screen and click the exit full-screen button.
Not sure why this handy feature isn't readily accessible via a shortcut in Edge's overflow menu, but that's typical of microsoft...

I purchased last week ideapad s10-2 from microsoft store online which came preinstalled with windows 7.   Questions: 1.  Is it possible to create factory default disk/recovery disk on an external usb dvd/cd drive as the netbook has no optical disk drive2.  If so is it possible to recover from the exteral recovery disc created in case disk crashes I spoke to lenovo tech support in the US and they said they do not support these in netbook.   I read other posts on this forum and none of them talk about windows 7. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks,Shiva

Answer:Possible to create factory default/recovery disk on s10-2 with windows 7 sold by microsoft store?

If it has OneKey Recovery, and it works the same as the version that comes with the S12, then yes, you can create Factory Default Recovery Disks using an external usb cd/dvd burner. One would assume that you can do a recovery this way too.

Have SP3 users had any experiences with the recent patches they can share?

Thanks,

Answer:Microsoft Updates from last week and SP3

Hi: After the SP3 d-load we see that Outlook Express is gone. But a search of MajorGeeks postings shows a repair: i.e. Control Panel, Add/remove, Windows components: Check Outlook Express, continue with the automatic reinstall.
I heard that some files are now re-hidden also.

idk how much info to give since this is work related, they're on a server, they all use xp pro machines wit 2gb of ram, logging onto server no prob but to start the Great Plains program itself takes like 3-4 mins, is there a way to make it go faster?

Answer:Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains

No. Since it is running off the server there is no way to make it load faster on the client machines. I would wager to guess that the server is trying to load it on several machines at once, and then again on several more as the program is not being called all at the same time to all the machines at once.

So the server has to process each request and then fill it.

I fear to update Vista anymore, because there's always a new trouble with each update. First, the network icon for dial-up went off and dial-up showed not connected after SP2 installation, then bluetooth discovery went dead, after some time whole network center was behaving strangely and finally, week or two before, most strange thing started to happen after a bigger update rollup - a directory or directory link named A or B was created hidden on the system drive, which basically lead to the drive itself, but after trying to remove the directory, explorer hung and eventually went dead- hard reset needed. After a restart or in the safe mode, directory is empty and can be deleted. After some time again, it's back, causing another hang-up. Spybot found nothing, updated ESET Smart Security is always on and found nothing, internet was disconnected, if it's a virus or malware, it's pretty unknown. Enough for my nerves- I did a complete Vista reinstall, this time I also installed Ubuntu just to have at least one reliable system ready.
Well, everything went ok, after installing SP2 from offline package network icon worked ok, bluetooth and wifi as well. My happiness didn't last long indeed- after installing remaining post-SP2 updates, annoying A and B directories appeared again. Any help, or even a confirmation of the same problem would be welcome. Thanx!

... and yes, I know it would be much easier to stick with Ubuntu, but I've already spent lot of money for Vista software to just ... Read more

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7 Ultimate and it have proven to me over many tests that it can hold its own against all the rest. I'm not saying it is better or worse but I have felt more confident each day I use it.

Trust me when I say I have tested it to the maximum in trying to comprimise my HD by downloading the really bad stuff. Each time it has stopped whatever came from outside dead in its tracks. Told me in easy to understand terms what MSE was doing and what I had to do to help. Many times I had to reboot because the virus was in memory and or hiding on my HD and couldn't be deleted while Win7 was running.

I'm sure many of you will burn me at the stake for saying that I like MSE. Let it go. I'm not telling you to change. I'm just making a statement that I believe is true.

I'd like to hear from folks that have more knowledge than I about how MSE works differently and uses less overhead to do it.

Malicious code threats celebrate bumper 2003
By John Leyden
Posted: 15/03/2004 at 12:37 GMT

Malicious code threats to privacy and confidentiality increased rapidly in the final six months of last year - up 148 per cent on the first half of 2003.

Virus writers increasingly targeted backdoors left by other attackers and worms in their attempts to spread malicious code, according to the latest edition of Symantec's Internet Security Threat Report. Blended threats - like Blaster, Welchia and SoBig-F - make up 54 per cent of Symantec’s top ten risks for 2H2003. More recently, the Doomjuice and Deadhat blended threats both exploited the backdoor left by MyDoom in January this year.

Older threats compromised confidentiality by exporting random documents. More recent viruses and blended threats also extract passwords, decryption keys and logged keystrokes.

Symantec chronicled 2,636 new vulnerabilities during 2003 - an average of seven new flaws a day – 70 per cent of which it categorises as easily exploitable. The number of vulnerabilities logged in 2003 is up just two per cent from 2002 compared to a leap of 81 per cent between 2001 and 2002.

Symantec’s Internet Security Threat Report (published today) reveals that almost one third of all attacking systems targeted the vulnerability exploited by Blaster and its successors. Older worms also continue to spread thanks to the continued availability of unpatched systems needed to sustain them.

Jan 13th begins the final countdown for Windows 7.

On that date, one of Microsoft's best and most successful versions of Windows hits its official "end of mainstream support." ... the King is dead, long live the King!

This first date ... End of mainstream support ... effectively means that Microsoft will no longer offer free updates to the operating system.

What OS are you gonna run in the future?

Answer:Windows 7 ... the final countdown

If you're still running Windows 7, don't worry about this announcement - it's just things like service packs and extended features that are no longer released. Security fixes, etc... are still going to be rolling out for at least another 5 years .

I'm looking forward to Windows 10, that's for sure... really not keen on Windows 8.1.
