Dell Inspiron 13 7370 Sound/hardware issue

Question: Dell Inspiron 13 7370 Sound/hardware issue

Did all the suggested trouble shooting uninstall/reisntal drivers/sound devices etc. Eventually after stressfully dealing with Dell customer service I sent it in for repairs. They replaced the left speaker but when I got the laptop back it still had the sound issues. I
Eventually I had my laptop replaced with a new one and same distorted sound problems are present in this new replacement laptop which I received today.
I think I might have discovered what the issue is. my suspicion is that it is a problem with the product line.
It seems that in an attempt to make this line of laptops as thin as possible they shoved too much inside so that the keyboard cover is not fitting snuggly or tight enough and is causing vibration on the left side when audio plays.
I also found that when I apply pressure to the left side near where the Dell sticker is it helps with the vibration and it sounds a little better. Which does me no good because I can't keep my hand there forever. Long story short, I think it is a manufacturing/assembly problem in this product line.
What now?
Is anyone else having this issue? I know of at least one other person who has been having the same problem even after receiving replacement. So that makes 4 laptops with the same problem.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a brand new Inspiron 13 7000 (7370).
The USB port on the right side doesn't work properly.  The USB ports (USB A and USB C) on the left side work fine.
The port on the right side works if I plug in a USB 2.0 device, such as a receiver for a wireless mouse or a micro SD to USB adapter, or an external Dell USB DVD drive.
If I plug in a USB 3.0 device, Windows usually recognizes the device, but once I try to start using it it hangs.  For example, if I connect a USB 3.0 flash drive in the right port I can see the drive and browse files, but if I try to transfer files to or from the drive, the transfer either sits at 0% or transfers very slowly (0 to 5 MB per second).  The same happens when using USB 3.0 external hard drives (I've tried two separate ones).  Occasionally, Windows will not recognize a device in the right USB port, or Windows Explorer will show the attached device connecting and disconnecting repeatedly.
If I use that same USB 3.0 flash drive or the same USB 3.0 external hard drives in the left USB port, everything works fine and files transfer quickly.
My drivers are up to date and Windows 10 is up to date.  I've tried the USB diagnostic tool and it all it does is ask you if the connected USB devices are connected.  They do show up as connected.
To me this seems like a hardware issue wither with the USB 3.0 port or the I/O board on the right side of the laptop.  What can I do to get this repaired?  This is a... Read more

i`m trying a new touch interface on my new Dell Inspiron Duo because the Stage Interface was just awefull.

the only thing that worked on the dell stage interface was starting automatically when swiveling the screen.

im now using the Thinix Touch interface, but im unable to start it automatically when swiveling the screen.

i already called Dell, and 1,5 hours later i was exactly where i started.

now know there must be a possibility to use the hardware (magnetometer) that detects the swiveling, but there is no visible setting to do so.

i`ve tried to contact the developers of the Dell Stage Interface, but i cant find out who made the software.

Dell wont tell me, and they tell me they probably can find out, but for solving my problem they would have to charge me 80 bucks.

no way in hell am i paying for something like this, so i`m trying to figure this one out for myself.

no luck so far, so i would like to ask you all for help

so if anyone has any idea, i would be forever gratefull!

BTW:this is the only thing bothering me about the Duo, so far its the best machine i`ve ever had (not counting my custom rig at home of course)

Answer:dell inspiron duo hardware issue

Janno, you have my sympathy.Unfortunately, I know nothing about the touch interface, But I do know a lot about Dell. I have had my issues with them as well. They are the reason I built my current rig. My Dell runs pretty well as long as I stay away from Dell tech support. The last ratings I saw said Dell had the best tech support. If that's true I feel sorry for the others. But, sorry I can't help you.

Hi All,

(sorry to post this message here & on device drivers, I realize this forum will be more suitable for this post...)

I bought a new Dell Inspiron 1420 with the following specifications :

Intel® Core?2 Duo mobile processor T5750, 3GB DDR2, 250GB HD.

When loading vista I get this error with no ability to solve this issue whatsoever.

the error message number is 0x0000124, which I see other people posted threads about too,
but I can't get any usable information which can help me solve my problem.

I tried re-installing vista, downgrading to XP, updating the bios, updating the drivers.
Went through Dell's customer care's support personnel without any luck.

In addition, I ran all the diagnostics software that came with the laptop -
there's a pre-loaded software that checks all the devices and memory,
and to be done with I ran windows memory diagnostic.

All the diagnostic software came with nothing - all tests passed and all came up with nothing.

I have some dump files which I don't know how to process.

Can anyone help me shed some light on this issue ?
Could it be a hardware problem, what is more likely (motherboard, other peripherial ?)
*** Edited ***

I parsed the dump file and got the following output :

A fatal hardware error has occurred. Parameter 1 identifies the type of error
source that reported the error. Parameter 2 holds the address of the

I have brand new a Dell Inspiron 7559 (Core i5 model) which i received 2 days ago.  The inbuilt speakers work fine. But when I plug in my earphones, the is sound only on the left side and a very faint sound on the right one. When I check the left and right sound in the sound properties, both the test sounds appear on the left side only. The earphones I am using are Klipsch R6. And here are no issues with the earphones since they work perfectly with my phone and other Dell Inspiron laptop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7567, and yesterday I noticed, that my laptop makes very quiet ticking sound. The sound very similar to HDD's head movement sound, the only problem is, that in my laptop there is no HDD. I use just 2 SSD (1 X M.2 PCI-E x4 [Samsung 960 EVO], and 1 X SATA 3 2.5" [Samsung 850 EVO]). In this model there's no optical drive, so the only mechanical part of this laptop, that coud generate this sound, if it would be mechanical sound, is the fan system. but strangely the ticking sound only hearable when the fans stop spinning.
So I don't think, that the fans would create this sound, because when I can see in AIDA64 that fans speed is 0 RPM, the ticking sound exactly then hearable.
Additionaly strangely, when I unplug the laptop from AC, the ticking sound almost stops (It not stops, but the click sound becomes rare)... After I plug the AC back, the ticking continues...
Do somebody sensed the same? Is it normal? My opinion, that the sound caused by on of the electronical units bad groundings, or something. Although there's no power or other issue with my laptop now, but I don't want to wait until it gets bad...

Hi guys,

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400, service pack 3.

Up until Monday, my sound was working fine. Now I simply can't get any sound out of my laptop whatsoever!

I am wondering whether someone has somehow changed settings or volumes I don't know about so if anyone can suggest anywhere to look I'd appreciate it.

I know my soundcard AND speakers are fine. I checked my Device Manager and the device is fine. I also ran a diagnostics check at startup.. as in the F12 key and checked the sound.. I heard a few melodies, clicked the 'yes' I can hear button and the test was complete..

So why, when I turn on my laptop and play a song/video/etc.. can I not hear a single sound?

Obviously, my laptops general settings are not muted.. I have checked.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello everyone,

Recently I've restored my Win7 installation using the original install image on the computer.
Since then my sound is not working properly - once every few seconds it jumps and makes weird noises.

I've tried updating the sound card drivers, and/or installing new codecs, but to no avail.
This happens with every music/video file on my computer and also when playing online content. The problem remains with any music/video player (tested WMP, Winamp, VLC, etc...), with speakers or headphones.

A few days ago a friend of mine suggested this might be caused due to a memory issue.
Something about memory paths getting rewired in the wrong way.
I've also noticed that when this happens my mouse pointer is sort of stuck.

If anyone has had this problem and/or knows how to fix it, I'd love to know about it...

Appreciate your help,

Answer:Sound trouble, could be a memory issue? (Dell Inspiron 1545)

When you restored, did you do it with the "F8" Dell Recovery Partition on the hard drive? Or did you do it manually with discs?

One issue we see on the Dell user forum is that the Dell sound driver must be used for proper operation.

Outdated device drivers such as video can also cause this.

So I have been trying to have sound from my TV through HDMI but it is not working.
I tried to update all of my sound drivers, but there is one that will not and it is called "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" in Device Manager > Other Devices.
The Device status of this is:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.
I do not know how to update this with this error and would like some help. I feel that updating that driver will allow me to have the HDMI work with sound.

Thank you so much for having this great forum on the internet! If you can solve this problem I will be really happy.

Computer / Driver specs below.

PROBLEM: When I play midi sounds its very choppy. Sounds in games are ok but after 1/2 hour or so can become choppy and sound needs to be stopped and restarted. When playing WMAs WMVs or MP3s sound can become choppy after 1/2 hour and only resolution is to stop sound from playing and trying to restart application and continue from where I left off.

This began a year and a half ago so no way to pinpoint now what cause was.

1. I do not experience this when I play a CD on my computer.
2. Also note that when I use tunebite which passes audio through my sound card and recaptures and saves it in a different form there are no issues either. I have recorded over an hour of pristine sound with no choppyness and played this sound on an mp3 player.

I suspect that I am having a hardware issue with my dell sound card but I need a way to prove that I am not experiencing an issue with driver conflicts on my computer. I wish I could download and run a diagnostic test to find out at which level the sound is being corrupted.

I have made a detailed image map attached with all information pertaining to my sound drivers.

Since a few weeks ago, my microphone has only been working when tilting the screen forward. I saw a previous discussion ( ) where people have reported similar problems. Although my laptop was still under warranty when I reported the problem to Dell, they proceeded to sending me an onsite technician with a repair microphone part who said that he could not replace just the microphone because I had a touchscreen (you would think Dell would have checked to send the right part), then a refurbished new screen that did not work at all on my computer, and then refused to solve the problem by arguing that my system was no longer under warranty (which it was not by the time they finally sent the non working screen and I called back to ask for another one to be sent—it was all problems from their side). Wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and if they were able to fix it themselves, as now my microphone is not working at all, not even when I tilt the screen.

I have also noticed the same problem for the touch screen. It only works when the screen is tilted forward, and I am afraid that, like the microphone, it will reach a point of no return. It seems to me that there is some faulty wiring from the screen components into the base. Any help would be much appreciated!

The problem still exists even after Dell repaired the laptop. It took two weeks to get the repaired laptop back from Dell.

The problem is:
When I plug or unplug the charger while playing music/video on laptop, the laptop is freezing with buzzing sound for 1-2 seconds when the laptop begins charging. Even after Dell repaired the laptop, the problem still exists.
Tried installing the updated drivers, the laptop works fine only for a short period and then after some time the same freezing with buzzing sound problem comes back.
Also, if the laptop is restarted it works fine for a while and then the same freezing with buzzing sound problem comes back.

Not satisfied with the Dell and Dell repair services.
Need help with this problem.

Is anyone else having performance issues with the Dell TB16 and Latitude 7370's:
Slow keyboard and mouse response, delayed typing, garbled audio with Windows sounds \ Skype calls, slow application response with ALT+TAB, accessing network resources \ shares is extremely slow and just flat out overall poor performance.
I am having this issue with several of these docks and I have done the Dell OSD Driver CAB version A08 for the Latitude 7370, installed the TB16 drivers manually and even tried the Dell Command Update Utility to no avail.
At the time of this poor performance if we unplug the TB16 everything goes back to expected performance, also worth noting if we work with only 1 monitor connected to the TB16 there are no performance issues.
I am on Windows 10 1607 Current Branch for Business.

i have just purchased a DELL Inspiron 15 5000 SERIES - 5559 with Windows 10 Pro pre-installed in Spanish. I have also purchased a DELL 24" additional screen SE2416H.
Whilst watching live internet broadcasts (TV, Youtube etc.) on Chrome, Edge or Firefox, as soon as I connect the screen to the laptop by HDMI cable, the sound on my laptop speakers disappears. Upon disconnection of the HDMI screen cable, the sound re-appears.
However, the sound doesn't disappear when using other sound applications such as Skype.
This means I can't enjoy watching internet TV with sound on the 24" screen.
Please advise how to fix this as the main point of purchasing the 24" screen was precisely to be able to watch (and listen to) TV programs.

We have a Tb16 dock in at the moment for trial. It is very unstable on our Latitude 7370's
We've installed all the latest drives from Dell, updated firmware on both the Dock and the laptops but still face issues
The main problem problem as far as I can see is the ASMedia USB 3.0 Extended Host Controller Driver , when installed the dock will just not work with ethernet or USB. No connection at all. If we remove this driver and allow Microsoft to install it's own version then the USB and Ethernet ports work OK however then another issue occurs, the connection constantly drops out over and over again , internet drops out, USB stops working (with the familiar sound you hear when you disconnect a USB device from a PC) and then reconnects again, this happens over and over again. I use the NIRSOFT tool USBLogView and there was hundreds of connects and disconnects over a few hours
The only way we've managed to get it stable is to either put the device into air plane mode or put the power setting on the WiFi adapter down to 1 which obviously isn't a good work around. Alternatively if we do not use the ethernet port then the USB works fine

When you install the ASMEDIA driver from the Dell pack you end up with a unknown device which I can't find any drivers for
This isn't just one one laptop either, this is on all our Latitude 7370's we've tested

I bought a Dell 7370, after installing Windows, Bios Update and driver (latest was graphic drivers) the laptop went into black screen. So when Iam starting it only power LED, charging LED and Keyboard light is working and I can here some coil whine.
I chatted with Dell Support an das long I have no working Service Tag they cannot help me with physical Support.

Further I tried forced ePSA and the bios recovery. In both cases the display doesnt show anything. In case of the bios recovery with USB Stick (Formated with FAT32 and containing the renamed Bios file) I can see that the USB is working (Usb led is lighting). With a normal start up its not lighting. But I dont know what to press to maybe start the recovery, maybe someone can tell me how to trigger the recovery without seeing anything on the display.
The only thing that works i tried today is starting with pressing „D“, so in this case the Display works fine and shows the colors.
Maybe somebody has an idea what I could try here or can help me with the Bios recovery.

Hi there,

was currently working on a laptop (Dell Inspiron B130) that was bluescreening regularly prior to loading into windows....about 1 out of every 20 times I could eventually boot into windows, it eventually blue screened after no longer than about 20 minutes anyways

upon attempt to install a fresh copy of windows, it bluescreened yet again...

I ran some diagnostics, and the harddrive came back as failed, so, as simply as it sounds I replaced the harddrive and attempted yet again to install windows (XP Home, by the way)

it got a little farther this time, (it started to load some initial drivers) but went no further and yet again, bluescreened with the same error code before, leaving me to believe it was no longer the harddrive (Blue screen error code posted at end of post)

At this point, I ran a full hardware diagnostic test (twice with two different programs) and re-ran specific harddrive diagnostic tests, all coming up with 0 problems (the harddrive problem seemed to had been fixed)...but I was still getting this blue screen

After first replacing the harddrive, when I tried installing windows for the first time, it gave me a different error code : "Ntkrnlmp.exe Could Not Be Loaded. The Error Code Is 7"
....upon Microsoft's suggestion, I reset my bios and did the above diagnostics tests....the bios resetting seemed to have let me get farther in the installation but as I have stated I was still bluescreening....and as previously state... Read more

Answer:Perplexing hardware trouble with a Dell inspiron

This is a serious error, but is usually a driver error. Your computer is about three to four years old, so it can be as simple as a dirty CPU fan or cooling channels, a defective memory module, but the driver error is most common, and the video graphics driver is the most common with that Dell model.
You need to test several things. Remove one memory module, and see what happens with the other. Then change modules and try again.
Clean your cooling channels with a can of dust off or other canned, treated cleaner air.
Go to Start->Control Panel->System-> Device Manager, and look for yellow or red flags on any and all of the devices listed. If there is a "mark" of some kind, you can assume that is the correct driver to replace.

Go to the Dell site, and enter your Service Tag off the label on the computer.
When you get to that side, have Dell Scan your computer so you know what to download, or download all the drivers.
Then put them on disk or flash driver where you can install them as needed.
Obviously, you will need another computer to do this. You might also want to print the instructions for each driver if you have not done this before.
First, update the BIOS
Second, install the Chipset drivers.
Third, install the Video Graphics driver...
Then install all other drivers that have a date more recent than your purchase date... or install them all.
Keep notes on what you do and what happens.
Get back to us if not successful.

My friends laptop is acting funny. It is an old Dell Inspiron 8200 Laptop running Windows XP SP2. It is flashing like an old Nintendo system (pictures below). He says that when he puts some pressure on the i,o,p area on the keyboard it returns to normal but it is not working anymore. When I opened up the laptop I find the CPU under the i,o,p area of the keyboard and I suspect a pin is loose or burnt out or there maybe too much dust in there. Is there anyway I can find out for sure if that is the problem or if the problem is somewhere else? If anyone has run across this problem or has any kind of information that can help me I will appreciate it.

This looks more like a display problem. Let's say it is the CPU for a moment, other than the display, How is the laptop's performance otherwise? If everything is good, then it points to the display. How'bout connecting a monitor to the laptop? Can you try that?

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 11 (3147, Mid 2014) makes crackling sound whenever sound is played

lelouIt's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

I have a Dell Inspiron 660S. Its almost 5 years old now and does not support the latest games. I was thinking of upgrading the RAM and GPU. My current configuration:

Processer: 3rd Gen Intel Core i5-3330S
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 620 1 GB DDR3
I am considering upgrading the RAM to 8 GB and the GPU. Can anyone help me verify if the replacements I have in mind would be compatible with my system.

It would be of great help is some could check and let me know if the above would be compatible with my system. Thanks.

HiI wonder if anyone can please offer any suggestions, I'm having a problem with an old laptop, which due to its exceptional battery life I would like to keep alive as long as possible. It's a Dell Inspiron 7000, running Windows XP, which over the years has generally been reliable. Usually when I start the laptop up, the 2 green lights come on at the front, but the machine suddenly seems to stop, often at different stages; either at the blue Dell logo or the Windows screen, and the image remains on screen, or while the screen is black. In either case, there is no response to any button presses, and the laptop is totally silent, as though switched off. The only option is to press and hold the power button, which will turn it off.Occasionally it will power up correctly, and either co-operate until I turn it off, or freeze at a later stage than usual. If I lift the laptop and move it, I can pretty much guarantee it will freeze. This is what suggests a hardware fault to me, rather than software, though please correct me if wrong.I replaced the screen and lid a while ago as I had managed to break the screen, but am assuming this fault is unrelated as there was quite a gap between the replacement and the fault occurring.Any suggestions would be much appreciated, as I can't afford to spend a fortune getting it looked at, but don't want to get rid of it. I'm not very good with computers, but if I know what it could be I may be able to look at options for getting it fixed, or attemptin... Read more

Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1300 (got it in May 2006)
Os: Windows XP Home Edition (service pack 3 is installed)

Problem: When I start my computer it goes through the motions, line of bars shoot across screen, bios? are checked quickly, windows Xp logo shows up, everything looks good. Then it comes time to click my profile and things slow down. Usually all that loads is my desktop background but sometimes icons show up too, along with a frozen bar at the bottom of the screen (taskbar its called i think?) mouse is responsive but if I go to click something it will beep once and freeze. Sometimes it will unfreeze moments later.

Now i'm currently in Safe Mode with Networking which works great, no real issues.

Another side note is that I can not click folders on my desktop or my computer, or check the contents of my recycle bin. I can however empty my recylce bin, open music folders in iTunes, and delete programs by attempting to delete a shortcut and then clicking the link on the prompt that says in oder to delete the program you must blah blah blah.
This was not only true in normal mode when it was working, but is also present in safe mode as we speak. If I do click something I'm not supposed to Windows Explorer has a problem with it and my task bar disappears and comes back moments later.

Are there issues related? Is this a motherboard issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Is my Dell Inspiron's problem Hardware or Software based

While in Safe Mode, navigate Start>Run>(type)"msconfig" and turn off all non-MS services and all start-ups.

Then, My Computer>(right click) "C:\" drive>"Properties">Tools and schedule a check disk (auto repair the errors) on reboot.

On reboot, you should be in what is called "Selective Startup". This should afford you maximum functionality while turning off the malware. It's a pretty good bet you are infected.

Check Device Manager, click "show hidden devices" and report any flagged devices here.

Every since windows 10 upgrade i have been having issues with my audio. When i start a video for the first time i will hear crackling and poping noise then it will catch up after i pause the video and play again.  Then the audio slowly goes out of sync.  At first i thought that were my speakers, but it was happening over headphones as well.  I tried the latest version of driver along with switching to the windows 10 generic audio drivers.  Anyone else having issues with this?

Bought a fully loaded 7370 from the outlet to replace my MacBook 12 inch that seems to be unreliable when it comes to connecting anything to its only USB-C port.  Very happy with price and hardware but have a serious issue with charging it.
- Incapable of charging past ~54%, once it hits this level I get 'plugged in, not charging'- Behaves this way with the supplied AC USB-C adapter, or my WD15 hub
..Dell advised me to downgrade my BIOS (I'd updated to latest as per forum advice) but unable to do this due to hardware preventing downgrades.  They also tell me categorically that the WD15 doesn't support charging anyway, which I don't think is true but that's another matter.
Would love someone from Dell to pick this up, I can IM the support ticket number, and resolve it.  I want to keep the laptop but it has to work properly.  I'm very close to returning it and just buying another MacBook which is what everyone is telling me I should have done in the first place.
Thanks in advance!

I recently purchased a Dell Latitude 7370 with the QHD panel. I was very surprised to find that the new 7370 line is plagued with the infamous Dynamic Brightness Control "feature" that cannot be disabled, especially when Dell is just now removing DBC from the XPS 15 and XPS 13 QHD models.
Dynamic Brightness Control is a dealbreaker, and I would not have ordered the 7370 had I known it was a supplied feature. Is there any information as to whether or not a patch is in the works to be able to update the display firmware to remove DBC in the near future? Any help or information about how to disable this will be greatly appreciated.

I have an old Dell Inspiron N5010 with

Intel core i5

ATI Raedon HD 5470 graphics card (1 GB)

It is about 4-5 years old, so warranty is definitely void. I have been running into some pertinent issues lately. Specifically,1. Sometimes the screen does not start up when I power the laptop on-not even the DELL booting screen shows (basically the display ain't on)2. The computer is persistently getting hot even during light use-like right now while web browsing3. The computer suddenly switches off at times (happened about 3 times in the last month so far)4. Its display corrupts when I run a disk defrag. Previously, there was that one time when the screen corrupted right from the boot screen and the next day, this problem just disappeared. The sceen had blue lines and corrupted blue pixels. It happened a couple of times even later but then I ignore it. I thought I should mention it here. There are no problems on the software side because I have reinstalled the operating system several times- to no avail.

Hello all,
I'm new in this forum, can someone of you share me to get high traffic with natural way?You can check Accounting software videos one of my work.Any suggestions?
Many Thanks !

I bought a new Dell Inspiron 3542 at the beginning of February and about 2 weeks ago I started having issues. It would not turn on or load correctly. I finally figured out how to run a diagnostics test so I did and it said the short self test was unsuccessful and I had to get a new hard drive. So Dell sent one and I replaced it and turned the computer on and waited for it to load. It then stated that Windows could not be reinstalled. So I shut it down and tried redoing it. It finally loaded Windows 7 (it was 10 when I bought it). Well later that evening I tried to turn it on and the Dell logo appeared then the screen went black then the logo reappeared, etc. That was last Saturday evening. I thought maybe it just needed to rest. I went on vacation Sunday morning and just got back today and it is still not working. I tried removing the battery and doing the power cord thing and it did not work. I tried just removing the battery and pushing the power button and putting it back in like the video stated I watched the the support menu. It still isn't working. I got it to to a diagnostic test and it said everything passed. Does anyone know how to help? What could be wrong? Thanks for any input!

Hi, i'm about to get this old netbook, anyone know what is the latest SATA Interface it supported? Is it SATA II or SATA III?
i'm going to upgrade it since some of the parts are outdated.
Will Duo compatible with the parts i listed?
Kingston SSD A400 or Samsung EVO 850 (depends on the SATA Interface which Duo Supported since if even i bought the 850, i won't get the advantages of its speed perfomance if the Duo Motherboard only support SATA II Interface, if it's SATA II then i'll go with Kingston)
Intel Wireless Card 7260
Samsung 2GB DDR3 1333MHz (Anyone know, is the netbook support RAM capacity more than 2GB?)

I'm really appreciate those who answer ;D

Answer:Dell Inspiron Duo 1090 | SATA Interface and Hardware Upgrade

That model uses an ICH7M SATA controller - 150 MBps (or original SATA) is all it can do.

One, 2G soDIMM, max.

I am on a Dell Inspiron 1100 and when I boot the system, most of the time, I get an error before the BIOS loads that reads as follows:

"The Device in the system modular bay cannot be identified. It may not be completely inserted or may have some other problem. Please read and complete the following steps.

1. Press the device completely and firmly into the bay.
2. Press the ESC-key -- wait for the system to power down.
3. Press the power button to retry detecting the device."

My BIOS version was just recently updated as I ran into the problem to BIOS Revision A32. I called Dell Technical Support and the support told me to remove the optical drive and reinsert it. I did as told. I booted the system up and before the BIOS loads, bam, error once again. The technical support didn't even know what to do. The support said that I may have a failing mobo. Now, how would one go about seeing if their mobo was failing? I'd really love to check this before actually going to purchase another mobo, Hell, purchasing a brand new computer or building my own considering I am sick of Dell's erroneous electronics.

Answer:Dell Inspiron modular bay issue/boot-up issue

You should first try a second hard drive with a full install. That usually fixes the problems with the 1100, 1150, 5100m, 5150, and 5160 which all seem to have the same problems.
Remember that this optical drive is fragile, and has a history of failure. New models are available with DVD RW that are quite reliable, on eBay. They range from $72 to $85 to $89 to $95. If you are good with tools, you can get the generic one, then revise the hardware to make everything fit just fine.

So i'm having a bit issues with my inspiron 530 desktop. My computer has been working fine until I decided to switch my current power supply. I got the other power supply from my other pc which I do not use anymore. After plugging cables in my pc turned on by itself and then turned off after a split second. After that it didn't turn on. I switched back to my other power supply which was working fine. My results was that my pc turns on itself when the power cord is plugged into the wall. Now there is no display shown but everything was working fine before. Also, the power button does not work either after. Im not sure if everything is plugged in properly. Can anyone show me the inside of their inspiron 530? Please help!

while listening to a mp3 from a music web site, i had inadvertently gotten my leg caught
in my lap top speakers and pulled out the jack . When I hooked them back up I was unable to get the right speaker to work unless I played with the jack.

I unhooked the speakers thinking I could still listen via the built in speakers.

I now have no sound! What would have caused this? Do you think a wire is loose ? all the controls show the volume up and the mute is off.

Any thoughts help ideas many thanks

I have had my dell for approx 3 years now and the other day my sound suddenly stopped working (no sound from ear plugs either). I restarted the computer and it made no difference. I can't play any sounds (no sound when the comp turns on, no sound on itunes, "Itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration,"Youtube etc etc you get the picture.

I found some solutions online but none of the settings seem to have changed when I attempted to change them. So I went into safe mode and the speaker icon on the bottom right hand corner has a cross on it indicating that there is no sound (there was nothing of the sort when i wasn't in safe mode) I looked for solutions online and went into Services > Windows Audio to press START and the following came up "Windows could not start the windows audio service on local computer error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start."

I have also tried system restore, but am unable to do so and the following appears "No restore systems have been created on your computer's system disk."

Please someone help, thank you in advance

The first thing I would recommend would be go to dell's site and download the audio drivers for your machine

make sure to download the right one for your operating system (vista, 7 or xp)
install them and see if that fixes the issue

I have an Inspiron 660 desktop that I bought about 3.5 years ago. I updated to Windows 10 and have recently started using a Dell U2415 UltraSharp Monitor. The sound bar was working well with the new monitor and desktop until about a week ago I noticed the sound started getting low, then completely out, then came back on like normal.  It worked fine for the last week, then it started doing it again today and now completely no sound.  I have tried headphones and two different Dell sound bars and the sound doesn't work on any of them.  I have looked at settings and device manager and it says the 'Intel (R) Display Audio' is working correctly.
I have looked at different solutions, including downloaded the latest audio (Conexant Smart Audio Driver) and chip driver updates (12/15) and still no luck.  Can someone please help?

A few months ago, I began to have a problem where the laptop would not power on. When plugged in, the charging light is present. When the power button is pressed, the lights will turn on, but right after, all except the first light?and charging light if plugged up?will go off, then a second or two later, the first will turn off and there will be a clicking sound followed by the laptop turning back off. The screen is at no point responsive and the DVD compartment will not open. There are no beeps, the only sound (other than the single click on the right side of the laptop) is the fan as the laptop attempts to start up. I'm hoping to be able to resolve the problem on my own to prevent the eminent crying and depression of buying a new laptop. Only joking, but I do hope to be able to fix my laptop, as it always works well and laptops are expensive!

Hi all,
My new (3 months old) Dell Inspiron laptop is having a pretty bad time. Until Sunday, I'd never had any problems with it, not one crash, freeze, not one thing. Now, everytime I start it up, give it 2-3 minutes, and it will BSOD with a stop 0x00000050 error.

I hadn't installed any new drivers, software or hardware on the Saturday, so am unsure as to the cause of the error. I can't run any checks, as the computer will BSOD, and cannot restore the computer, as again the computer will BSOD, even in safe mode.

I've backed up all my documents to CD's, but am reluctant to re-install Windows.

Here are the mini-dump files. Hoping someone can interpret them and help me out!

Any help would be fantastic!

Thanks, Tom.

My Dell Inspiron is acting up. Since I removed some programs including MS Office the system boots to a diagnostic testing sequence, and the keyboard doesn't function. However, when I use a USB keyboard to get past the first round of testing it boots to another diagnostic set, and this one allows a choice for troubleshooting from a symptom tree. When I choose to test the keyboard it fails, and the error states that it is constantly scanning like a key is stuck. I checked all keys to no avail, and I ordered a replacement. When I installed the new keyboard I have the same problem. How do I correct a stuck key error when there is none?

I was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar with their machine, and if so, have a solution to the problem.

My Inspiron N5010 Laptop won't power up.
I had been facing this issue for quite some time, however, my laptop eventually used to power up after repeated attempts but this time the PC is completely dead with none of the LEDs coming on.
Also, I disconnected the adapter, removed the battery and discharged the residual power by pressing the power button for 20-30s but that did not work.
Is this a problem with the motherboard?
Please help me out URGENTLY as I need my PC up and running.
PS: This happened after I performed a reset of the Win 10 OS on my laptop so am not sure if that has anything to so with it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Dell Inspiron Power issue

Verify that the AC adapter LED is on before you plug in the notebook end.  If it's not, the adapter is toast.
Redo the reset procedure.  This time, remove and reinstall both memory modules.
If it is on, try powering up on AC only - no battery.  If the system will power up -- but not with the battery installed, the battery is bad.
If the system still won't power up with a good adapter on AC only, the mainboard is bad.

Answer:DELL Inspiron 6400 Issue

DST stands for Drive Self Test and because it's failing it might mean that the drive itself is failing. According to my boss (who is much more experienced with computer repair than myself) suggests that the test itself might be corrupt.

EDIT: Last night the game completely froze and I had to manually turn off my laptop and back on again.

I have an Inspiron 1525, and I recently updated to Windows 7 x64 from Vista. Obviously I have to update the drivers, and I am having trouble getting the trackpad to work. Well... it works, but I dont have editable settings for it. I want to disable the touch to click feature, but my mouse settings do now have a "Dell Trackpad" option. Where is the driver to download this option? Or is there some other way I am missing?

Thanks so much.

Dell Inspiron 15 5547 Laptop issue... I bought this laptop in the month of December 2014 and I have warranty up to December 2015. Last week I noticed a damage at the right side corner of the laptop just below LAN port. Its just because of a screw. There was no screw and I din't noticed it till last week. Yesterday when I called customer service they said like they will not cover it under warranty and we have to pay for it in-order to get it repaired. I explained them it was damaged because there was no screw. When I went through forums for this laptop in dell support website, every post is regarding this issue.I don't know what to do. If I get this laptop repaired what if this same issue arise again. They will not give any warranty for this. This is not a physical damage. This is just mistake by the DELL. Why does DELL doesn't care about their customers?
As we purchased DELL products, do we have to face this?

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 5547 Issue

Hi samrat2252,
Thanks for posting.
From what you are posting, the damage does sound like normal wear and tear, and not something that would be covered by warranty.  I'd be interested in looking into this further, so please contact me privately and send your information.  Thanks.

I just received this computer in the last couple of weeks.  The bass and lower end frequencies sound really really bad on this system.  I thought it was a problem with the internal speakers but I just tried a set of tried and true external speakers and they sound exactly the same.  Mid and upper range frequencies are nice and clear but anything low sound muffled and clipped.  I've played with all the various settings and tried different EQ settings - nothing.  Anyone else have this issue and know a fix?

Answer:Dell Inspiron One All-in-one computer sound is awful

That is unusual. The sound out of the audio jacks should not be affected by any internal processing unless you specifically enable it.  Here are a couple of things to try.
1) Disable all of the THX sound features. You have to disable them all one by one.  See if that changes the sound output
2) Disable all Realtek sound effects in their control panel (EQ, reverbs). See if that changes anything.
3) Finally, disable al audio enhancements in the Windows audio control panels. This can be done by right clicking on the Windows speaker in systray, select Playback devices, double click on the Speakers or Line Out/Headphone Out bar in the list, select the Enhancements tab, and click on the "Disable all enhancements." NOTE: this is very literal. It will disable all of the audio effects on that output device including the two items listed above. It basically forces the driver to stop doing any extra stuff it was doing before.
If you do resort to step 3, you will need to be careful with playing back audio on the internal speakers. Sometimes there are Equalization and filter settings to help protect the speakers inside the system.

I have been trying to get an old Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop working with the help of the very helpful people on this site and I am very nearly there but for one problem I can't get any sound.I have 2 hard drives the original one which is very small and as such everything was going at a snails pace it could take 5 mins just to open up Word etc so I have replaced it with a larger hard Drive which works a great deal quicker But I just cant get the sound to work. I have checked out the sound in control panel and all the options are greyed out and when I went to device manager everything was ther ok except for "Sigma Tel C-MAJOR Audio (with a yellow !) I clicked on this and ticked the option to update driver and it came back with unable to find a better one than the one installed can any one help me out wit what could be the problem Cheers Ray

Answer:No sound on Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop help

I have had similar problems. First things is older laptops will be slower and the clock rates inside are slower and the software is getting mor demanding on speed.I would recommend reinstalling XP (I assume it's this) to clean everything out). You should have the DELL discs, if not get them from DELL. Make sure you extract all Keys from the laptop first so the reinstall is legit and you can get all the updates (SP3 etc).If you don't want to do that get the audio driver from DELL (that's what I did on the same laptop some time ago).I would not think the laptop can be upgraded to Vista (too slow) but you may consider Ubuntu as an alternative (may not be quicker but just a thought).Google your problems and you should get answers for a common laptop such as that one.

Hi-I'm having problems with the sound levels on my laptop. Although I have it set at 100%, in order to hear the sound in a movie, I have to hold it in my lap with the speakers facing up towards me-not good if someone else also wants to watch. I've tried everything that I've found online to fix this problem. A lot of the suggestions say to go to the enhancements tab under speakes, but I don't have an enhancement tab on that page. All I have is General, Levels, Advanced, and Spatial Sound. Does this model not have the enhancemet tab? If not, is there a way to increase the sound level (something not too difficult-I'm not a computer expert). The sound used to be fine, but in the last couple of months, something changed (maybe an automated update or another update?) I use the computer for my job writing and for browsing and watching movies and tv - nothing that would require me to make any changes. Anyway, is anyone has an answer to this problem, thanks in advance.

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 7537 i7-4510U, 16.6" Touch. It had Windows 8.1 in it.
It has been working great so far, apart from one BIG problem - the audio playback quality is terrible.
When I try listening to music, I can barely hear any low-ends (or bass). I tried different plugging different equipment - my Sony stereo system, as well as, Beats Pro headphones - both yielded dissapointing results. For example, the same file played on my iPod sounds MUCH better than it does on my new Dell Inspiron. Same goes for playing the same YouTube video on another computer using the same headphones. It seems that every other equipment (another laptop, iPod, iPhone) all sound the same and much better my Inspiron.
The audio drivers are up to date (they were selected automatically based on my model on I also tried changing Equalizers on the Realtek sound card settings. I noticed the difference, but all of the options still resulted in a vastly inferior sound quality vs. my older laptop (which I'm pretty sure has default settings, as I never had any problem with audio quality).
Does anyone have any idea how can I fix the issue? I heard Windows 8.1 on some laptops may have some problems with low-end sound, could that be the case? My older laptop also uses Windows 8.1, as does the stationary PC, so I personally doubt it. Is it possible that this could be a manufacturing defect on the sound card?
Any ideas how can I fix the sound quality are much ... Read more

Answer:Bad sound quality - Dell Inspiron 15 77537

Hello. Try switching to the Windows native audio driver:
1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 1 and 6.]
If there is still no bass then it could be a hardware problem and for that you should contact tech support. Make sure that the eq in your music player (i.e. Windows Media Player) is set to normal. Also when comparing to other playback devices, all of their eq and other enhancements should be set to flat, to try to compare apples to apples as much as possible.

I have an N5110 Inspiron. I bought it around 6 years ago. It had a faulty HDD so I had it replaced about 5.5 years ago. It has been working fine since then.
However, it has been making a weird clicking sound from the beginning. It usually occurs when the HDD is idle (the HDD led isn't on). Sometimes it doesn't happen for minutes whereas other times it happens a couple of seconds apart. I was wondering what could this be?
My laptop is getting quite old and currently, I cannot replace it so I want to keep it functional as long as possible. Could this clicking reduce the life-expectancy of my HDD, is it a sign of something faulty? If yes, what can I do to prevent an HDD failure and losing all my files?

Answer:Dell N5110 Inspiron HDD clicking sound

They don't call it click death for nothing.  The drive is trying to recalibrate track zero and isnt finding it. So the drive is likely to die very soon and lose everything.  Drives die, this isn't a fault anymore than the brakes on your car or other mechanical things like tires wearing out from use.

Hi all
Just done a fresh install of XP Pro, now no sound, no startup/shutdown music. The sound card is OK, the speakers are working as the error bleeps etc are making there sounds. Any ideas please?

Answer:No sound from Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop

It sounds like you haven't installed the sound/audio drivers, which aren't part of XP and which you should be able to get from the Dell website. There may be other drivers you need to install too - look in Device Manager for yellow exclamation marks.

Now, this proves to be an elusive solution. Even when I first had to worry about this back about a year ago. Unfortunately I cannot find the answer anymore.

I was unfortunately put into a situation in which I had to get Vista on my computer (I for some reason didn't even think to set up a dual-partition) which is the Inspiron 6000 by Dell. With the Sigmatel C-Major Audio card there don't seem to be any primary drivers that work with Vista. I know there is a third party one out there somewhere, however I have had no luck. Does anyone happen to have a solution to this? It is driving me mad.

Gasp, I know, I know, A problem with a Dell computer/laptop, can you believe it!? Sigh.

Anyway, I discovered the problem this evening (it's 1am in the morning here, Christmas day, but I refuse to rest until I can reach a conclusion on the problem - how sad!). I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 Laptop. I folded the lid down while the laptop was still running, then when I picked the laptop up again and tried to play music, there was no sound. None atall. No sound from Windows Media, no system sounds, nothing. When I plug the headphones in all I get is a fuzzing noise with an occasional feint bleep.

Ive gone through XP's 'troubleshooting' thing: there is no conflicts or anything like that, all the hardware is there. I had no problems with sound prior to this evening.

I know it's vague, but thats pretty much the gist of it. I cant think of any reason why the sound has just...stopped working. My only guess is that the machine has taken a bump and somethings become dislodged internally or something, because I cant find fault with any hardware. But I know comparitively little about computers.

I will ring dell in a few days time as I should imagine their officers will be closed, so until then, Id just like a second opinion if possible.

I turned the laptop off for the night. Then remembered I needed to transfer some files over onto my other PC (music files etc.), then suddenly the sound came back on my laptop!

Absolutely ... Read more

Can anyone help here?

I got a Dell Inspiron 1525 back in September. Runs on Vista.

A few weeks ago, I began noticing a crackling sound that was coming from the top left hand corner of the keyboard section of the laptop, right near where the 'Inspiron' logo is. It doesn't usually start until I've had the computer running for 30 minutes or so.

I called Dell and shipped the computer to their facility since it's still under warranty. They sent it back saying that they could not detect any problem with any of the hardware and therefore, did not fix anything. Sure enough, after getting it back and turning it on and being on it for 30 minutes or so, the sound is still there.

Everything about the computer works fine...the Internet, my progams. It isn't slow or anything. But this sound just doesn't sound right.

Does anyone have any ideas what this may be? Could it be an issue with the laptop's fans? If so, aren't the fans considered to be part of the hardware?

Thanks for any light anyone may be able to shed on this issue.

- Brian

Answer:Crackling Sound From Dell Inspiron 1525

Is laptop staying cool or did you try to update your wireless/network card? When you listening music can you check CPU usage and temperature (with temp additional program) under task manager. Also, CPU fan is not making that noise.

I have dell 15R (N5010) and have problem with audio drivers. When i upgrade to Windows 10 my audio drivers doesn't work and no have sound. I spoke with Microsof community, he send me to dell... It's rly funny because dell leave users of older laptops because they no have profits for that. The warranty is over so bye :) Someone can help me?

Answer:Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10

Warning to anyone reading this thread:
Make sure you know your model name before installing a driver!
The subject of this thread is "Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10". The problem is that there is no model with that exact name. There is an Inspiron 15 N5010, and an Inspiron 15R N5110.
They are different models and use different drivers. In other words, the audio driver for the N5010 is not meant for the N5110, and vice versa.
To complicate matters, somebody named aimeehuang posted in this thread and put in a link named "dell 15r n5010 drivers download". But if you click on the link it goes to a page for Inspiron 15R N5110.The person named "aimeehuang" is not a regular on this discussion board and probably got the model names confused.
Check your model name. If you have an Inspiron 15 N5010, use the IDT R280657 audio driver. It is meant for Win7, so install it into Win10 using compatibility mode (instructions below).
If you have an Inspiron 15R N5110, use the IDT audio driver. It is meant for Windows 8. It might install without a problem into Win10, but if there is a problem, install it using compatibility mode (instructions below).
1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive..2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write... Read more
