Lenovo Ideapad Z710 Screen flickers while playing games

Question: Lenovo Ideapad Z710 Screen flickers while playing games

My Lenovo Ideapad Z710 (Windows 10) works just fine most of the time, but when I try to play games, first some individual pixels and as time goes on the entire screen starts flickering until it?s almost impossible to play. If I turn off my graphics card, a NVIDIA GeForce GT 840M , it worked fine again. Now first of all, it would be nice to know whether anyone knows what the cause of this first problem is and how to fix it, as I would like to be able to use my regular graphics card when playing (enables me to play on a higher resolution). Added to that, I?ve now noticed that on other games, there is a flickering, without the pixel flickering first, no matter whether or not I deactivate my graphics card. Anyone have an idea where this problem could stem from?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have been experiencing a very frustrating issue with my new Ideapad Y510 which I had purchased just a few days ago.  Minutes into playing games, my screen would suddenly turn black and my system would restart.  I have been conducting extensive research into this problem and notice that many others experience the same. As far as I know, all of my drivers are updated. Please look into this problem.  Unfortunately, I am very close to sending this PC for a refund.   Daniel.

Hi Daniel,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that your new Y510 Laptop is restarting while playing games. Please let me know if the system is restarting because of increase in CPU/GPU temperature increase also would suggest you to check using the Laptop on a Flat Surface to make good air ventilation and check if there is any Dust/Foreign particles stuck in the air vents. Please let me know the findings.

Hope to hear back soon

I've tried setting the battery settings to high performance, disabling the other graphic card (Intel HD something) and changing the Processor Power Management settings, but nothing seems to work. I don't know if this is entirely on-topic to this specific forum, but help would be appreicated regardlessly.  Thanks.

Answer:Why does my Lenovo Ideapad Y510P lag (whilst playing games), when it's not plugged in?

I'm not an expert, but as far as I know if the power cable is not plugged in then you cannot use the SLI, so only one card is working. But I may be wrong, correct me this case.

My R9 M375 in my lenovo y700 laptop seems to have a problem, while in game and under load, the GPU keeps going from 820mhz to 1005mhz, this manifests as stutter in games and annoys me quite a lot. Here is a picture of gpu-z while playing a game. And also why does the gpu usage vary that much under the same loadIt is supposed to stay at a 1005 mhz at all tims under a game.

When I first had this problem it would only freeze once a day. Now it happens everytime I try to play a game. I have seen some other posts on this forum to try to fix my problem but I still haven't found a fix. I have reinstalled windows, moved some games to my ssd, updated BIOS, updated graphics card drivers / downgrade drivers, etc and the problem continues to happpen. This it what actually happens: Im like 1 min into the game and then all of a sudden the whole laptop freezes and the audio from the game keeps on repeating. The laptop doesn't let me alt + tab, alt + F4, the mouse and keyboard doesn't work at all, I'm forced to do a force shut down. This problem only happens when I'm using the AMD grahics. If I play a game on the intel graphics it won't freeze but the game is barley even playable.I really want this problem fixed!  Please help me.

i have just purchased a preowned  ideapad z710.  i would like to remove the details of the previous owner and register the laptop in my name. Essentially, i need a fresh install.  How can I do this?  do i have to download a fresh copy of windows 8.1?  if so, from where?  will i get the ownership of the windows 8.1 operating system that is installed in this laptop or do i have to pay for the same again?

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z710 Win 8.1

restart your laptop and spam f9 or F8 to get recovery menu off windows 8 from there you can then pick restore pc select full restore that will then wipe everything that previous owner had on the laptop so it will start from fractory mode where you will have to set it up yourself. Update: if this laptop has a onekey recovery button next to charger port is then press that button and follow restore steps from onerecovery system that boots up select reset or w.e it has so it will wipe your laptop and set it back to factory settings Update 2: it's actually next to power on and off button you should find a tiny button so power laptop off then press it and let it boot up into one key recovery software from there follow steps for reset

Hi guys, I was just a single click before purchasing Z710. It has all specifications I need, but the last moment I realized it has a Glare display! So I went on searching on new product, Z70-80.This appears to be the latest Lenovo version, have an anti-glare display, but the specifications are worse. So, why did Lenovo downgrade processor and disk on their new model? Z710: Intel Core i7-4710MQ quad core (2,5GHz L3 6MB) Max turbo frequency 3,5 GHzZ70-80: Intel Core i7-5500U (2.40 GHz, L3 4MB) Max Turbo Frequency 3 GHz Z710: SSHD 1TB SATA 2 (3 Gbit/s), 5400rpm + 8GB SSDZ70-80: 1TB Serial ATA 2 (3 Gbit/s), 5400rpm  Thank you for answers,Tedy

Took delivery of new Z710 on December 30th.  I am extremely disappointed.  This is the slowest computer I've worked with in a decade.  It takes 35 - 45 seconds to check a checkbbox.  More than a minute to refresh a page.  I am sick that I bought this machine.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z710 Win 8.1

Why don't you examine your options on how to reverse your decision in buying the unit (Like the possiblity of returning the unit with a full refund rather than keeping it and suffer all the dislikes that you found out regarding the unit)?

I have a 32" AKai LCD TV that supports 1080i hooked to my new computer system via Composit Video cables. The loading screens and desktop screens are all perfect, I could not ask for a better picture, however when I play ANY of my computer games the screen flickers and after about a minute goes completely black and I have to power cycle to get things back to normal. My resolution is set to 1024x728 and the only refresh rates available are 30htz or 29htz...I am honestly not sure what to do but I'm assuming it's a setting such as the refresh rate that is causing the problem.
I am running Windows Vista 64Bit Service Pack 1 with Direct X 9, 8gigs of ram, Dual Geforce 9600gt SLI 512MB Video cards, 3.0ghz dual core processor. I have a laptop with very similar statitistics and it plays the same games without a flaw or hitch with the exception of WoW, and that is just a Vista issue with that particular video card. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi to evreyone! So recently I bought a brand new Lenovo Z710 (i7-4700mq, intel hd 4600 and nvidia gt745m). I then installed windows 8.1 (genuine) and all the drivers on the cd that came with the machine. But it seems there is a big problem with the graphics card. Nvidia gt745 seems like its not there. The Geforce Experience and nvidia control panel fail to recognize it, although it's there on Windows Driver Manager. When I try to load a game (WOW) it crashes on the loading screen. "Display driver has stopped responding..." bubble appears and a minute or so afterwards, there is a bsod. The game works on the integrated card (intel hd 4600) when nvidia is disabled or its driver is uninstalled.I tried reinstalling the drivers, downloading and installing the recent ones, removing all graphic drivers and reintalling them in different order, tried safe mode, changed some bios settings, but still nothing happened.Could this be any kind of driver compatibility issue or simply a windows thing, or is it a hardware problem? Could the nvidia be faulty or the laptop itself? I want to try anything before turning it back to where I bought it for a look... So your ideas will be vastly appreciated. Thanks!

My notebook won't power up.  I replaced the power charger.  Is the battery required to be installed in the notebook for it to power up?  I tried starting the notebook with the battery in and out of it.  It won't power up. My local Microcenter took a look and said I need a new motherboard.  When the charger is plugged into the wall outlet and the notebook, none of the three 'power" LEDs light up.  The power connector on the notebook was tested and works correctly.  Am I sunk here and just need to bite the bullet and get the motherboard replaced?

Hey, I have an afterglow headset for gaming. It has a line out 3mm headphone jack on it, and a USB.
Usually, the USB controls the Mic, and the headphone jack controls the audio. But when I plug it in, the sound is coming through the USB (Chat volume), unless I plug it into another power source, like a wall charger for phones. Than the sound will come through the headphone/Line out jack, allowing me to use the Bass boost feature. My brother has the same headset, and it does the same on my computer, and I have no idea why. The sound sounds like garbage coming through the USB. Also my laptop only has one Line out jack. I think the Line in and Line out jacks are combined into one. I don't know if that is messing it up.
So when I have the USB and Line out plugged into my laptop, the sound level is controlled by moving the adjuster to the "Chat" volume, rather than the "Game volume". But if I plug the USB into a wall wart, and the headphone jack into the laptops line out jack, it's normal and controlled by the game volume adjuster on the headset. But than the MIC won't work since it's through the USB.
Any ideas??

Answer:Audio Issues With Lenovo Z710 Ideapad

USB headsets have their own built in "sound card" to convert the digital USB audio signal to analog so it can be heard in the headset. With USB, the PC's sound card is not used. With this information take another look at what you have or are doing.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad z710 webcam issues

Hi SimonaB,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with webcam in your Lenovo Ideapad Z710 laptop.

If this is a new system, there will a protective sheet on the camera lens check if that plastic sheet is removed due to which there would be blur issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

HI all,I purchased a lenovo ideapad Z710 laptop in December for work purposes. However, since the day of arrival it freezes up and hangs every 5-10 minutes for at least 1-2 minutes each time. I thought it w as because maybe it requires updates so i left it for a while but the problem persisted. Also, when the laptop is charging the mouse cursor jums around all over the screen and goes all haywire and clicks random items in the process. I also often get avideo tdr failure. I tired booding the laptop with an external usb with UBUNTU to see if the problem persisted and it did. When i contacted customer support they told me to do a recovery and turns out that guess what? my laptop came with absolutely NO recovery partition whatsoever! I am very disappointed. This is a new laptop i bought for work purposes and now i am getting held back. The very fact that this is a new laptop and nothing seems to be working fine irritates me. It is obviously clear it is a hardware issue yet i have to do allthis running around to repar software so that they can come after and tell me it's hardware. I have no idea what i should  do.

I've had this "lovely" notebook for going on 2 years now, while I'm not thrilled with this notebook at all I do have one glaring problem I cant not seem to fix. I've been diligently updating my windows 8.1 with all the needed fixes and etc. For the past week or 2 though my pc has had MAJOR issues with just being on and idling.  Example would be saturday I left for the day and left my pc on (like always) I had chrome running with a single google tab opened and notepad opened. I got home today and the pc was completely frozen. Couldn't do anything but pull the battery out and restart. But now the battery can't even be in the notebook as the ideapad will not start with it in there. It simply does not start. Is there a way to fix this unresponsiveness for my system? I don't have anything running in the background (norton etc) and I haven't downloaded anything that would be risky. I've scanned my pc and have done ccleaner along with removing any programs I don't use. But my pc is still getting unresponsive. How can I fix this?

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z710 Win 8.1 slowing down to the point of being unresponsive

Try the usual task of running disk cleaner and then do a defrag of the drive.

My computer has been acting kind of weird when playing games as of late, no specific games, just NEW games. Everquest 2, it doesnt, but then TFC2, Need for speed prostreet, and World in Conflict it does... Anyways, the problem: After being in the game for 5 minutes or so, my speakers do this beep every few seconds and when it does, the screen freezes for a second. The beep sounds exactly like the speaker in the computer when you hold down too many keys or something...

I thought it may have been that my CPU was overheating, but I went out and bought a much better fan/heatsink and it still does it. Anyways, the specs of the system are:

Intel E6600 Core Duo
4gig of ram
ATI Radeon X1800 512mb

I also checked the video card fan and it is working fine and blowing out hot air out the back.. I have the newest drivers from ATI also. Really not sure what the problem could be. Any advice please?

Anybody got any clue what could be wrong?

Hi to all, I have just bought a Lenovo Ideapad Z710 without operating system. I installed a Windows 7 64bit, the one which I used before for a long time. I downloaded all the drivers from Lenovo website, and all installed pretty well. I can use WIFI, however Bluetooth does not work at all. I don't see any bluetooth in device manager and there is no tray icon of bluetooth. Moreover, I used AIDA64 software to see which bluetooth adapter is installed, however I found none. I have an Atheros 9485 wifi adapter. Do you know what it might be? I will give you all the details. Thanks beforehand.

Answer:Lenovo Ideapad Z710 Windows 7 64bit Bluetooth problems

hi moryak_lexa,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Looking at the Z710 HMM, the Atheros AR9485 (Liteon WB225) does show that it's Wi-Fi+BT combo chip.
  - Link to picture

Can you try the following:
1. Install the Lenovo Energy Managenet driver

Lenovo Energy Management
v1.0.0.28
54.4 MB

2. When done, press Wireless key (F7 or Fn+F7) and ensure that the Bluetooth Current Status is set to ON.
   - Link to picture

If the Bluetooth device is still not appearing under the Device Manager, can you try to download and run the Bluetooth Driver Installer and post the results during installation (eg. error messages, etc.)

Let me know how it goes.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Z710 with jbl branded speakers and the idt audio driver(latest) in windows. After using ubuntu 14.04.1 with latest updates and kernel 13.3 I am not able to use the headphone jack in windows after restarting my notebook. I found a temporary solution to solve this problem, but its very annoying to do that.I have to disconnect the power supply, take out the battery and press the start button for 30 seconds. Then I am able to use the audiojack in windows. I think there's something like an electrical switch that is used in ubuntu to power off the hardware, which is even not recognized in windows or something like that. Hope you guys can help me!Thanks for your replies dj.95 specs: i5-4200m - 6gb ram - nvidia gt 740m

I never noticed this before sending the laptop off to Lenovo for battery repair, but ever since my laptop is not showing the Nvidia G840 graphics card that should be installed in my laptop. When I say it's not hsowing, I mean it is not listed in the device manager under display adaptors. I have checked the BIOS but it was set to "discrete" and not "UMA-only", so it should be using the G840 if it is in there. Is there any chance the graphics card may have been unintentionally disconnected whilst replacing the battery connector?

Hi, I have recieved my Ideapad z710 . I  have swapped the hard drive out to an SSD and I have chosen to install Windows 7. I purchased my machine based on the fact that prior to purchasing the machine, the Lenovo.com support page stated that it was Windows 7 compatible..  However, after installing Windows 7 Home Premium, the trackpad driver is not working the way it should be. This is an incovenience as I would like to use my track pad properly. I would love to keep this machine as I love the performace so far, however this issue is keeping me from doing so at the moment. Can we find a solution? Thank you Arthur

Hello, I have a question. My Lenovo Yoga 720 15.6" doesn't overheat, although I've noticed something rather odd. When I play Fifa 17 with the charger plugged in, the fans are very loud and the laptop gets pretty hot. When I play Fifa 17 on battery only (charger not plugged in) the fans are quite silent and the laptop doesn't get hot at all. Why is that? For all I know, I would expect the exact opposite...Thanks in advance!Kind regards,Tijs

Answer:Lenovo Yoga 720 15" : hot when playing games on charger, cool when playing games on battery???

The CPU runs at full speed when it is plugged in and runs more slowly on battery to save power.  Faster = more heat.

A few weeks ago my friend bought a brand new Lenovo Ideapad Z710 laptop pre-installed with Win8. I "Upgraded" to Windows 7 for him, as neither of us can stand the new OS. Usually I have no trouble reinstalling drivers after installing a new OS, but for some reason his touchpad driver will NOT install.I'm using the official driver for his computer, it's apparently a synaptics driver and it says it should work completely fine with Windows 7, but when I try to run the installation, I get the error "Synaptics Device Not Found!"There are a few issues that I believe are related to the driver not being installed that may tell you guys something. When he closes his laptop lid and open it again, his mouse jumps over the screen endlessly, and he cannot use the computer until he restarts. Also, he can't turn his touchpad off, which I assume is a function that comes with the driver.Any help or input is greatly appreciated, if you need any more information please feel free to ask. Thanks again,-Tyler

Are you sure that the touchpad is a Synaptics touchpad and not ElanTech? If it is ElanTech, try uninstalling the presently installed the driver. Then install the driver from the site. While installing the driver do not put a checkmark in the box that says Install Synaptics driver now.

Hey all, I'm brand new to the forums, but I've used the site countless times to help solve problems I've had with various computers.

I'm usually not one to directly ask for computer help, being the acclaimed "Computer Guy" in my circle of friends and family, it takes a little too long to get an answer if I need to fix something fast, but this case is a little different.

I just got my new Z710 today, and if the screen tilts too far back (not excessively far, maybe a few degrees past 90), the screen will turn black. If I leave the screen in this position, the keyboard lights will turn off too. Once I tilt the screen forward and click or hit a key, I'm greeted by the lock screen, and have to enter my password again. Do I need to return this, or is this a problem I can fix?

Yeah, brand new laptop's still broken. I understand that your time is probably spread pretty thin with all the posts on here, but after spending $900, I think I'm entitled to a "it's broken, send it back" or a "it's fixable, take it to XXXXX".

I've had my laptop (Lenovo Ideapad z710) for almost a year and I've often had problems with the integrated GPU battling the dedicated gpu. I had developed work arounds for these BSOD crashes and everything was fine.  But yesterday I realized my Nvidia Geforce GT 745m gpu no longer shows up in Device Manager. It is also not identified by the programs Speccy and GPUz.  My pc runs fine but It won't allow me to use my dedicated gpu, this becomes a problem when i want to run graphics intensive games or programs. I cannot update the driver because it does not see that I have the graphics card installed.  This has to be something that happened in the past few weeks because I used my Nvidia gpu last month.  I recently updated my bios from the Lenovo website, it updated sucsessfully and I can't be sure that it caused this problem but it is a possibility I suppose.  I have read about this issue on several forums but have not found a solution.Any help or advice or people with similar issues would be greatly appriciated! Thank you! SPECS:Lenovo Ideapad Z710intel Core I7-4700MQ (2.40GHZ)8gb Memory1TB HDDNVIDIA GeForce GT 745M1920x1080 17.3"Windows 8.1

If you cannot see it anywhere, most probably its dead.

If you are in warranty, you should get it repaired from Lenovo.
They might have to replace your motherboard.

The steps you can try -
1) Clean install of graphics drivers. (Wiont work since your GPU is not recognized)
2) Reset your laptop to factory settings.

Whenever I start to play Warcraft III/Frozen Throne, it'll go for about 5 minutes in game with no problems, but then the screen will begin to flicker, not on and off but sort of side to side and distort the picture for a split second. It usually starts off gradually then gets worse and becomes unplayable. It happens in that PKR game as well (www.pkr.com) but not on games like World of Warcraft and Counter Strike/Counter Strike Source. Any suggestions?

This only happens in games, but it happens in ALL games.
When I'm playing games I can see the screen refresh. a near-transparent stripe stripe moves vertically up my screen at a very rapid speed every half second or so. This does not happen when I'm watching movies or when I'm on the desktop.

Vsync doesn't help, as I'm running games under 60 FPS.

I have a BenQ G2420HD set to 60Hz, my refresh rate in games are also manually set to 60 herts.

Graphics card: ASUS GTX 570 Direct CU II with the latest drivers

CPU: i5- 2500K overclocked to 4.0GHz on stock voltages, 62C under load. Stress tested with Prime95 Blend for 4 hours, no errors.
Driver version 280.26

Power Supply: Corsiar TX650
RAM: G.SKILLS Ripjaw X 1600Mhz (stock freq.)
Motheboard: ASUS P8P67
is this a driver problem or a monitor problem? can I fix them without replacing components?

All replies are appreciated.

Hi, I bought this Ideapad 100s in April and have just recently started using it.  It works well when it is plugged in, but I can't use it when it is unplugged.  Every time it is switched on without the power, the screen flickers off and on, as though there is a loose connection between the main part of the computer and the monitor. Is it possible this could be something to do with power settings - since it only happens when it is unplugged - or does it sound like my computer is faulty? Thanks for any help you can provide.

My PC used to run great and I could play the games I enjoy...Civilization 3-5, Civ Rome, AofE, and those sorts of games. I'm now unable to play any of these games due to a problem. The PC will freeze or simply go to BSOD. I don't understand since it has all of the components necessary to play these games. I've use software to monitor the heat and CPU. The system never gets hot but I boost the fan up anyway. What I see on the charts is that the CPU begins jumping around and then suddenly goes to full 100. When it's "jumping around" the game gets glitchy and the screen has flickers or bad spots. Naturally, once the CPU hits 100 the PC freezes or goes to BSOD.

I have followed the instructions you gave and have attached the zip file. I'd really appreciate help solving this mystery. It sucks to have a computer capable of good things but unable to perform them.

Hello. This is a continuation of my previous issues with my Yoga 500-14ISK. I've eleminated major of flickering, now it never happens on ac power, but on battery it still happens. I have disabled all Intel's "enchancements" and updated NVIDIA drivers to latest. the flickering now doesn't happen if I disable NVIDIA, but it's not a perfect solution as i bought this laptop to play games better than my old laptop (it had Intel HD too, but alone). When I disable nvidia the performance in games is getting poor. Is it a battery problem? Any ideas?

Answer:Blue line on screen in Lenovo Z710

You need to describe the problem a little more and do some preliminary trouble-shooting. This "blue line" on screen:Is it just one line?  Or multiple lines? Is it a straight line?  Verticle line?  Horizontal line? How thick is the line?  Very thin?  Like 1-pixel wide? Trouble-shoot:1) Does the line always stay in the same place, even if you reboot the laptop?  Or does it move around?2) Change the Windows wallpaper.  Select a SOLID COLOR.  Use Yellow color.  Because yellow and blue have the best contrast.  When you have a solid yellow background, the blue line should stand out.  Does the blue line stay no matter what color you change the background?3) Do a PRINTSCREEN to capture your entire screen.  Then do a PASTE in a MS Paint program.  Save the PNG (or JPG) graphics file.  View it again.  Does the blue line stay with the captured image - e.g. move MS paint around when you display that image.  Or does the blue line stay with respect to the screen (stationay) no matter what programs you run? It is possible that the graphics memory onboard the graphics chip (the nVidia chip) may have some memory cells that are stuck at "1" that maps to the blue color for that entire row, and cannot be cleared to a "0".  And thus no matter what you do, you will always see that "blue" color present.  I am not saying it is the case, but just suggesting there may be such a possibility. Can y... Welcome to the Forums.

From the IdeaPad Z10 SKUs that I've seen (US Models), all of them comes with a 4-cell battery which lasts an average of 5hrs.

This Lenovo Z710 (59396561) model though is advertised as having a 6-cell battery.

Answer:Lenovo Y 410 Screen flickers

Hi renoojohn,Is the machine warranty expired? I personally own a Y410 as well. It was purchased in April 2008. So far so good.  I'd suggest you to ring dealers nearby your area to purchase extended warranty, and get it fixed later. However, your machine needs to undergo a pre-health check-up conducted by Lenovo authorised dealers in order to see if the machine is eligible for the extended warranty purchase. You may still send the machine to service center for repair but you will have to pay for charges.  Currently the extended warranty package available right now are as below: 12X6565 - Lenovo 3000 Y/G/U - 1 Year MA - Onsite, Next Business day (Mon - Fri , 9am - 5pm)12X6571 - Lenovo 3000 Y/G/U - 2 Years MA - Onsite, Next Business day (Mon - Fri , 9am - 5pm)If you're interested, you may PM me and i'll see who can help you in India. Alternatively, you may approach dealers in India. Thank you!Regards,Cleo

When on battery my screen flickers to the point that the laptop is unusable.  No problems while it's plugged in.  This issue started under Windows 8, but only appeared when using heavy graphic applications like Photoshop.  Under Windows 10 it starts happening almost immediately when unplugging the power. I've tried changing the power options to ensure it's set to maximum performance while on battery, and tried both on and off for the adaptive display options with no improvement.  I've seen "replace the LCD panel" as a solution in another thread but that does not seem to be a logical fix given that the system works fine under power. Anyone have any other suggestions?  This seems to be a common problem, so I'm hoping there's a driver/update fix.  Has anyone tried getting a new battery? Thanks!!

I've used this laptop for almost 7 months now but from last week or so my monitor started acting weirdly.Suddenly my monitor turns black and white and comes back to normal after a few seconds. It's working fine when I conect it to an external monitor.

Answer:Lenovo Y510p screen flickers

Hi friend! i own a lenovo y510p and had the same flickering/glitching problem.Does it looks like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Dq-LmjT4xg If it does, i might have the solution.First, a driver update fixed it, but only for a time. Try opening your computer and reconecting the video cable. Even if it looks ok, take it out and in. Look in youtube for reference on how to do it. I had the SAME glitching for a looooong time. Reconnecting the cable fixed it completly, i swear. It´s probably a flaw in the cable, if it happens again the same thing should fix it.Follow this tutorial to open the computer:https://youtu.be/0xMIjXVzF18?t=5m55sI marked the time when he unplugs the video cable, so that way you won't miss it. There's no need to unscrew the keyboard screws also.Good luck!

I have Lenovo Ideapad Y510P. Using "Core Temp" my core temps are around 50oC idle but goes over 85+ when playing Battle Field 4 Beta or 70+ league of legends. I think a laptop that has gaming graphics card and i7 4700MQ should have some great cooling system. My laptop gets hot as point that it's difficult to use laptop keyboard "WASD keys" because they are too hot. (BF3) Should I get a cooling pad? how can I keep my laptop cool while playing video games? Thank you

Answer:Ideapad Y510P overheating when playing games...help

Idk anything about your model of laptop, but i have the z580 that gets really warm too. 78 - 82*C when playing games like Starcraft 2. I have a desktop computer fan that runs of USB. + a 18$ cooling pad. But they both only keep the laptop 1 - 3 *c diffrence.  So.. Idk what to do there ither. unless I just take off the bottom of the **bleep** thing and set it on a window box fan...  loool or spend 100$ on a better cooling pad.. Idk. but even the more expesnsive ones have reviews saying only 1-5*c in diffrence.  And i cant find anyone that knows how to reccommend a good cooling pad. Everyone I tlak to just says it means its a **bleep**y laptop and to upgrade. But thats not useful...

Hello, Everytime I fire up a game like Portal, Mass effect 3 ect, my new laptop just shuts down completely like it has overheated, but it isn't even warm to the touch. I have updated all the drivers and still it just shuts down. It runs relatively smoothly, but it just shuts down after about 20 minutes of play. Is this happening to anyone else? Any ideas why?   Thanks!

I should probably add that I have the 640m le, with 96 shaders, not the high powered one, however it should still be able to run these games at the lower settings.

Hi, I am aware that many people have complained about the issues with this laptop overheating when playing games. I haven't however found any official comment from Lenovo regarding this issue. I have as far as I can tell the latest BIOS update ( v3.05 74cn44ww) and also the latest nvidia graphics driver. I have the version of y510p where there are 2x nvidia geforce gt755 graphics cards. I find when i am playing war thunder for only a few minutes the keyboard heats up to the point where I am literally burning my fingers!! this is not acceptable for a laptop that was advertised as a gaming rig. I would go so far to say that from a health and safety perspective this laptop is faulty and should be taken back and replaced. Could somebody on these boards please provide me with the latest information and any potential fixes for this issue before I take it back. Many Thanks Paul

I tried connecting a 2nd screen to the hdmi but nothing. ive used another desktop and connected the ideacentre to it with the hdmi cable to the in... and the screen works fine but without the touch on the screen. I also bought a new cpu and its stil the same Ithought the display is working thru the cpu unit. I think its the display card and picked up from previous posts on this forum that the displaycard is intergrated with the motherboard. Just want to make sure before I buy the Motherbord if its possible that the lcd creen or pc bord could be the problem ? looking forward to hear from anyone

HI.
@Julius2

To rule that is a hardware failure, if possible enter bios if once within the same image will appear black screen with the line that you mention it, it is a failure of the graphics chip.

Regards.

Hi friends, I'm hoping for some input on what's going on with my laptop. I have a Lenovo Y500 that's about 3 years old now, and about 1 month ago the screen began flickering (no lines-the entire screen flickers on and off) when the lid was moved. At first it only did this when the lid was almost closed, but now it has gotten worse to the point that it flickers when I put the screen at a 90 degree angle. At this point I suspect it's the LCD flex cable, but I'm hoping for some input as to what I can do about it to fix it/confirm my suspicions. I'm fairly tech savvy so I'd be okay with diagnosing and replacing parts myself so long as I have instructions on how to do so.  Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Hi Egiller,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with the screen flickering in your Lenovo Y500 laptop.

If the display flickers only when the lid is moved then it might be issue with the LCD cable, hence suggest you to visit the nearest service centre for further details.

I have a Lenovo N500, haven;t changed any hardware on it at all. but when I open up my screen the screen flashes, also when I move the screen at all it does it again. Sometimes when I am just watching something it flashes or goes black. Any suggestions or do I need to replace the screen? Thanks

Answer:Lenovo N500 Screen flashes and flickers

Sounds like a loose lcd cable. The Hardware and Maintainence manual onTHIS page may be some help, if you want toattempt a fix yourself. The cable may be looseby the hinge, and removing the"Keyboard cover and power board" may give youaccess to the cable. Not sure, since I have neverworked on that model.

I m using this laptop for last 3 yrs. I m facing problem of problem of screen flickering and blackening at opening angle less than around 100 degree. Beyond that it is ok.
I have to carry on with this laptop for next 5-6 months..
Please suggest some method so that i can repair it.

Answer:Lenovo Y410 screen flickers and blacks

It may be that the backlight lamp or a connection is failing. See here enter link description here
If possible I would try connecting an external monitor first to see if you get the same result. If you don't then the problem is with the laptop. If you get the same result with the connected monitor (flickering etc) then you have a problem elsewhere - ie: your Graphics Card.

I recently bought ideapad 320-15ikb. When I play a game like GTA5 on battery it lags in the middle of gameplay and after 30-45 sec again it runs smoothly. But when I play games with AC adapter plugged in, it runs smoothly. But simultaneously it does not charge the battery. eg. If I connect adaptor on battery 28%, it will stays on 28% untill I exit the game (But it shows, plugged in and charging, in battery notifications). As soon as I exit the game it starts charging. Is it normal?

Answer:ideapad 320-15ikb does not charge while playing games, is it normal?

So its normal for the laptop to be plugged in and not charging at times. Most laptops will allow for some battery discharging before starting to charge again. As for performance battery vs AC power. Your profiles for power based on battery or AC power can determine hardware settings. So its possible on battery the profile limits CPU speed or even changes graphics clock to save battery. Pretty much why gamers in general play games on AC and set profile for power to performance. This helps prevent underclocking CPU or GPU.

Hey everyone! I'm having problems with my screen since it keeps flickering pink when I try and move it. Might there be some faulty wire? I posted a recording of what happens. Hi,I have been searching for a solution for months without any fix. I have already sent the laptop 3 times to warranty service, display was replaced twice, but the problem still continues. My reclamation was canceled once..... the statement was that it is software issue, but i could not belive that. It just starts after a while of usage, than it just increases intensity untill it is insane. I am posting the issue as a photo, so it is easier to imagine the problem. I found several facts:1. The screen flickers extremly after turning on the windows high contrast mode (black or white does not matter).2. The screen flickers sometimes when scrolling through certain pages (searching internet, word documets)3. Screen stops fleshing for a while after changing the possition of display (it is yoga so you can get a lot of angles)4. When plugged via HDMI cable to TV, flickering continued only on the laptop display!5. Lowering brightness seems to lower the intensity of flicekring (more time before it blinks again).6. Flickering is not happening in BIOS, but immediately after showing windows login screen. As for drivers: All updated, all tried, all checked through lenovo online diagnostics even display and everything is correct. Display drivers reinstalled, display drivers checked. I have tried to change auto-brigtness options, turning off display drivers for both graphic cards, windows reinstalled 3-times through one key recovery and even throug regular factory settings reco... Hi! I have an Ideapad Y700-15ISK running Windows 10, bought new last August. From day one, there's been a persistent problem during games: every few minutes, the system will hitch / freeze / stall for 1-2 seconds, and the audio will st-st-st-stutter during the stall. These are not ultra-modern games with demanding system requirements - I've noticed this problem while playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown, The Blackwell Chronicles, and most recently, Thimbleweed Park. It can happen apparently randomly, but I have noticed it happening fairly consistently when the game is loading an audio file that hasn't been played before in the current play session, so I'm wondering if this is a HDD access problem? The system came with an SSD and a HDD; Windows is installed on the former, while Steam and all my games are installed on the latter (1 TB WDC WD10SPCX-24HWST1). I have seen a few other threads where people seem to experience a similar problem, and have tried the following solutions to no avail:Updating all driversUpdating BIOS (current: CDCN37WW)Disabling Windows indexing on all drivesDisabling antivirus (AVG)Disabling wifiUninstalling Intel Rapid StorageEnsuring that the game is using the NVIDIA card and not integrated graphicsIn Windows audio settings, checking the Enhancements-->Disable all sound effects boxI was going to try a Lenovo Solution Centre hardware scan, but the program seems infinitely stuck on the "Loading" circle, so I guess I won't be doing that... An...
