I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ok, so i turn my computer on the next day and my display setting are not the way i left them. Once the resolution was the lowest, and i keep it at the highest. Another time the resolution and the color settings were 16 bit and lowest res. I could see why the 16 bit could have responded to going that way the next time i started my computer becuase i put it on 16 bit when trying play starcraft. But my resolutions change a lot when i didnt do anything to them.

I have Windows Update set up to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". Before in Windows 7 there was a balloon popping up in the tray every time new updates were available for download. I know that these balloons are gone in Windows 8, but I'm not getting any notifications AT ALL except for those in the bottom right corner of the Start screen after reboot.

But as far as I know I'm supposed to get notifications in this way:
Where can I enable them?

Answer:Any way to enable Windows Update notifications?

To my knowledge, update notifications show up on user log in screen.

My MAIL app from MS stopped working. Calendar and others continued to work. I uninstalled them (you cannot uninstall or reinstall mail seperate from Calendar and messaging) and reinstalled it from the store and now they are working, but notifications for mail have stopped.

I look in PC settings and under NOTIFICATIONS it says

"Show Notifications from these Apps"

MAIL is not listed under there. How do I get it there?

The functions Delete and Modify in the Password Keeper of the VeriFace software are always disabled. I read all the help and tried searching for answers online, but so far I haven't been able to figure out how to enable them. I need to delete some of the entries from the password keeper and modify the password in others and I am not able to do that. Anybody knows how to resolve this issue? Thanks!

Answer:Y510 VeriFace Password Keeper Delete/Modify Disabled

I have just purchased a Lenovo Y410 with Windows Vista Home Premium and Lenovo Veriface Recognition pre-installed. My problem is that under the Password Keeper tab, I have saved passwords to some web sites but the option to delete these is greyed out.  How can I remove user names and passwords that I have saved?  Advice on this will be appreciated.

Hi, I've had a Thinkpad before but now I have an Ideapad Y510P. The Trackpad seems different. The left and right mouse buttons are built into the track pad, so when I try to click them, if I drag my finger at all, the mouse moves. I believe my old Thinkpad had isolated buttons so this wasn't an issue. Is there a way to disable or lower the sensitivity of the Trackpad at the buttons so this stops being an issue?

Answer:How to Modify Trackpad Settings?

Hi Anubis512,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
To access the trackpad settings please click on start button and then type ?Control Mouse? and select the option or click on control panel>Mouse to access the trackpad settings.
Do post us back for further queries.

I've just completed an upgrade on my rig and I replaced the Mobo, CPU, and RAM. The MOBO change required a fresh install of Windows 7 (64bit), which I did, and I proceeded to install the motherboard drivers from the CD provided. My last motherboard was a Gigabyte. The current motherboard is an ASRock H97 Performance Fatality motherboard.

With the new build I've had challenges in getting Realtek to work as expected. I use this rig to game, so sound is very important, and unfortunately the sound is the ONLY area I have challenges with at the moment. Here are the issues:

1) I noted that the level of sound is very low when plugged into the rear panel - much lower than it was previously
2) I noted that now when plugging my headphones in the rear panel, I do not get the auto popup that I used to get asking me to confirm that I just plugged in headphones - i get nothing. I suspect that this is WHY the sound is low - the system thinks im plugging in speakers, when I'm not doing that at all - I'm plugging in headphones
3) I cannot enable the auto popups in the Realtek Manager - I go in there, I click on the folder image, and I get something about enabling/disabling the front panel - nothing else. There is no option for me to enable auto-popups
4) I cannot click on the port image within Realtek to define how i want the port to be used - nothing happens.

What I have done:

1) I tested on the front panel and the sound is much louder. I still dont get any popups asking me to con... Read more

Answer:Realtek Audio Issues-Cant enable auto popup notifications/low sound

I went from a Gigabyte Z77 UD5H motherboard to an ASRock Z77 Professional Fatl1ty. I didn't notice any change in the sound.

Plugging into the rear GREEN speaker jack will not detect headphones, just that a "speaker" was attached. My RealTek does not show headset when the headphone is plugged into the headphone jack, just shows "Speakers" connected.

If you installed any enhancement to the Sound, check that for any volume level adjustments.

I am running Firefox as my primary browser. I do not have Power Point installed so I have downloaded the PP reader and send downloaded messages to Desktop where I read them. Today I rec'd 3 PP messages. One of them I was able to read. The other 2 said that my security settings would not permit viewing them. How and what do I change to reduce the security settings? TIA.

Answer:How to modify Security settings in Firefox?

you did not say which version you are running. what i have found is for firefox 1.5. the link is below.

Protocols: The options here are 'Use SSL 2.0', 'Use SSL 3.0', Use 'TLS 1.0'. I recommend that you tick all three options, as they use appropriate security protocols (SSL is Secured Sockets Layer and TLS is Transport Layer Security) to ensure secure transmission of data over the Internet. If you encounter any difficulties with a particular website, then fall back to only having SSL 2.0 and 3.0 ticked. If you still have difficulties, only tick SSL 2.0 and if difficulty persists then avoid using the site for entering sensitive data, as all sites should support SSL 2.0.

Hi guys,

I got my 21" CRT monitor today. I love the huge screen area. But even as big as it is, I still have trouble reading the text at 1600x1200 (it's native resolution) It looks washed out and blurry. I can read the text but it's not that sharp. The monitor's color is also not good. I have adjusted the settings but I can't get the colors to be as vibrant as on my laptop (or even close) I'm not too happy about my purchase, I thought the color and sharpness would be better on a sony trinitron. Are there any programs I can use to help me modify the settings?

Here's the monitor I have:

Answer:Program that helps modify monitor settings?

Well...there's usually buttons on the bottom of the moniter. There's firmware in the moniter w/ a crude interface....but it will make the colors better. And for the text size, i think you can change the default in the control panel.

Hi All, I decided to comment on Bitdefender here, before maybe heading over to one of the official BD forums, cause here is where I got it (greatly appreciated, thanks to madyrocksin!)

Previously I used Avira Antivir with Comodo firewall, never had any problems with the combo, but hey, who can resist a free offer?

So, I've read through Nomad's thread, can't say I've noticed any slow down problems.

First off, what really bugs me is the notification indicator on the desktop widget. At the moment its telling me that I have 31 notifications. But when I open the control panel, they are old notifications (BD wasn't updated at some point), despite the fact that it is currently up to date. The notifications are still there, despite being redundant!

Note: they come about because I sometimes turn off the Internet connection, only activate it when I am actually online. My Viao has one of these switches that let you control Internet access, and I use it. Surely it wouldn't take too much to have the software recognize that BD is up to date and remove old redundant notifications!

Secondly, it seems to change settings by itself (main panel). If I set it to Autopilot, I go back later and see it has set itself to User Mode. It turns Auto Update off, this has happened a few times!

Before writing this I decided to check all the settings, and discovered on the Anti Virus > Shield panel, where I have both On-access scanning and Active Virus Contr... Read more

I have to say that I hate Windows 10 action center and its notifications. Unfortunately Kaspersky uses in new versions action center notifications. I have tried to bring back old notifications style by Kaspersky but it doesn't work good. I mean, when I disable Kaspersky notifications in Windows 10 notifications settings, I don't get notifications at all, for example when I download EICAR test files. Only when I enable interactive mode to be asking me about decision, I get old-style notification. But with the automatic mode, there are no notifications. Is there any way to solve it, or maybe I have to use to Windows 10 notifications?

Have you tried to disable (hide) the Action Centre, on Windows 10 AU or later.

I found that some of my apps (that regularly emit notifications through the notification center, such as Dropbox or Cyberduck) dont appear in the notifications settings page.
For example, I use Cyberduck as FTP client. Every time I edit a file on my server i get the notification "File blahblah updated" and it also appears in the notification center on the right.
I want to disable the sound of those notifications (not the notifications themselves), but Cyberduck is not listed in my notifications settings.

I tried to reset my [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PushNotifications] using this tutorial How To: Fix Missing Notifications in Windows 10 | Windows 10 content from SuperSite for Windows
and some new icons appeared (like Xbox or Outlook 2013), but not the one I needed.
I know that new apps should appear when the first notification is pushed, but that is not happening here.

I don't know what to do anymore. Can anyone help me to solve it?

Attached my notification settings. I'm sorry for the language but my windows 10 is in Italian, anyway you can get what it is.

I've tried deleting and rebuilding the icon and thumbnail caches, rebooted and still have the same.

Before the update they were fine and I've not noticed any other icons show the same.

Any way to clear or refresh these icons ?

Windows has not given me any "important" notifications for several months. Never minded, but a few days ago I bought Forza Horizon 3 to play with friends. The problem came when they invited me and I did not get any kind of notification, whereas if I invited them, they got a notification. These last 4 days I've been trying to find the problem until I found it. On Configuration -> System -> Notifications and actions, notifications are enabled, but I only have some of the many applications that should exit me (See the Screenshot):

Then I asked my friends what where the apps shown on that section. They told me a list of applications and they all agreed on one, the Xbox App. If this is activated you'll get the notifications, but of course, I do not even get the Xbox app in this section = /For example, you can see how I have the Store option enabled, and when I download a program from the Store I get notification. So Windows notifications work correctly, but Windows does not detect many Apps = (

I have tried several solutions like:? Run Toubleshooter from Windows Store apps? Run the sfc / scannow command on CMD? Trying to change values in Regedit without success? Apply the fix "AppDB Registry Import for Fixing Missing Notifications" (With this was hoping to fix it but did not solve anything)

And a lot more of "fixes" unsuccessfully. The last option will be to reinstall Windows, but I want to avoid this as much as possible = /

Hey all!
So I've noticed that the default notifications settings for the firewall is very limited, it only notifies you when it blocks a certain kind of connection but not others, although it has the ability to notify you, it is disabled by default. Which results in some confusion for the users. Example would be something that happened to me just a few days of using zonealarm. My VPN was being blocked, I couldn't find the source of the problem and zonealarm seemed very silent so I didn't think much of it, what's more was that there was a check box that said allow VPN protocols, and it was checked for me. (which in my mind I thought it meant that it would not block my VPN traffic)

After investigating, I saw that zonealarms had log files of me connecting to my VPN server and was blocking it. Upon further digging I found that there was a setting for notifications to every type of connection blocked by zonealarm.

If the developers would have enabled this in the start I think it would have made it easier for users to understand the software instead of having issues and trying to troubleshoot them themselves.

Answer:Risky default settings for Firewall notifications

Some developers do tend to think for the users or make it a point to decide for the users themselves and not let them know of a thing or two. It may have been because a lot of users do not want to get involved or shall I say do not want to give a fuzz about the inner workings especially that of the firewall(and the same goes for alerts and logs). Some do tend to be an "install and leave" individual and this with all that's been studied and taken into account may have been the reason why the developers took it upon themselves that notion -- decide for the user and not bother him (or better yet not inform him -- enjoy the ride we'll do it for you.). Take the case of Emsisoft ending the development of Online Armor because studies have showed that HIPS is not the "in thing" and BB is and because it's better for the user. When issues occurs and like what you discovered there's always the denial and the plain simple Oooops...we'll check it out.

REG-PRNTSRVR1\Administrators local security group contains DOMAIN\Domain Admins as a member.

The default 'Print Server Properties' security tab has 'Administrators (REG-PRNTSRVR1\Administrators)' with full blown permissions. Under Advanced Security Settings, there are two entries for this; one of them has 'View Server' and 'Manage Server' checkmarked applying to 'This server only', and the other for 'Print', 'Manage Printers', and 'Manage Documents' applying to 'Documents and printers only'.

I am RDP'd into REG-PRNTSRVR1 as my own credentials, a member of Domain Admins security group.

Why in the world do I not have the ability to modify these default permissions or modify the settings of printer queues? Even the 'Security' tab of printer queues say 'Administrators (REG-PRNTSRVR1\Administrators)' has full blown permissions ('Special Permissions' not checkmarked though).

Answer:Unable to modify printer settings as Domain Admin logged into Windows print server

Installed 16299.15 RS3 on test machine.
Three notification settings cannot be disabled. Turn them off, and they just turn back on again.
(Notifications from Apps and other senders, notifications on lock screen and notifications about VOIP calls).
Turned them off, and went into group policy editor and disabled the notifications under user configuration. But of course that does not work because even though the slider moved to "Off" the settings are not actually being turned off.

Does anyone know of a fix?

Know the specific registry keys for these three settings? - If I set them off, assuming it's not Microsoft deliberately defaulting them to "ON" wouldn't that work?

Hello NoName, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you have a restore point dated before doing this, then you could do a system restore at boot using that restore point to undo this.

Hope this helps,

I cannot do anything on the computer, but I will start with when I click on properties (from the administrative tools, services or MMC console) nothing happens. I can't even view the services window in the extended view, only the standard.. When I go to the set up new account area, the window opens, but it remains blank. so I can not change, view or create any accounts. Oh, and I don't show any internet connections, but when I try to create a new one, it says it is already there.. I can not copy anything, if it accepts the copy command, it will not let me paste it. Drag and drop is not working either.. (as I was going to just move all my important things to another drive, preferable my usb drive so I can put the stuff on this computer..
Oh, it is not this computer I am talking about, it is my primary computer, it will not get on line, as I do not show any internet connection except a remote access.. I uninstalled and reinstalled the network card.. that did not help. the operating system is Windows XP HOME edition. I am very frustrated about this entire situation. I am way ahead of myself, I apologize, please bear with me. Let me explain the situation in brief.
I have two computers in my office. I have a cable modem and a broadband router, connected to the router is a hard wire thru the attic to 2 more computers. So, there are 4 computers on our NETWORK. Answer:how do I enable a disabled service??

Whew. Ok first to turn that service back on:

Click start, click run, type "services.msc" without the quotes.

Find "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" double click on it.

Change the startup type to Automatic and click the start button, then apply.
More importantly, you keep mentioning "He." The guy upstairs I'm assuming? If he is messing with your computer and it's YOUR network, unplug him. End of story.

Let me know how you make out.

"All your drives are set to disabled. On this operating system, in order to start RecordNow! you must either physically remove your drive(s) or enable at least one drive."

I was burning CD's no problem 3 days ago, and now I get that message. Here is a brief description/history of this computer. Answer:How do I enable a "disabled" drive?

What model Satellite? Some have matsubleepa dvd drives and use the ramasst driver to enable writing dvd. There is a message on boot (or until you remove it from startup) asking if you want to disable the xp cd writing so you can write dvd.

Do you remember seeing that at some point?

The rest of your post rambles a bit but indicate there are some things going on that you don't understand.

some xboxs use wireless gaming adapters which your wireless network can detect. If you have a neighbor with one of these adapters it might show up.

Also, did your friend use the disks that came with your computer? Some satellites of the same base model number come in xp home OR xp media center editions. I have a set of each for the m110/m115 series. The disks look exactly the same except for a different part number. I used the xp home set on the mediacenter edition once and there were a lot of drivers missing and error messages.

Lets take your issues one at a time and get some info. To start with what is the whole model number of the laptop.

Okay, here's the deal from the beginning... 6 to 10 months ago I got some help on here trying to set up my network card. I finally got it to work but it screwed up my modem and sound cards. We figured out (I use "we" loosely ) that it was caused by an IRQ conflict. I can't remember why, but I was told to try disabling my USB ports (To free up an IRQ channel?) and I did and it worked out fine, blah blah blah, happily ever after.

Now, the deal is, I just purchased a USB game controller which I wouldn't mind using and tried to install it. It said it couldn't detect the controller which is what jogged my memory about the USB disabling. I'm in BIOS mode and I changed "USB legacy support" to enabled in the "advanced" pull down menu. This didn't work. What should I change? And will I go back to having an IRQ problem? Any help would be appreciated. BrianF, you were the one who helped me out last time... Any of this ring a bell?

My wireless internet connection has been working great for over a year on my Dell Inspiron E1505. Earlier today, I disabled my wireless radio by right click on the shell icon on the system tray and clicking "disable radio". Usually this is not a problem...I simply repeat this step and click "enable radio".

However, this time all of my options are grayed out when I right click over the shell icon. When I hover over the icon, it reads "No supported wireless adapters available in this system". When I double click the icon, the prompt reads "Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software was unable to detect a supported wireless adapter. Please install a supported adapter".

My wireless connection on this machine has been working great for a long it possible that a simply mis-click has thrown my system out of wack, or there a simple fix that I am overlooking? (The Function-F2 command is non-responsive).

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I recently tried to connect to my wireless broadband and the icon had disappeared. I went into control panel and wlan assistant and tried to enable the wireless.

A message comes up saying it is trying to install software for Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN. I run through the process but then when I try and get on to network controller I get the message there was a problem installing this hardware. It says This Device is disabled (code 22)

I have a compaq netbook and am running Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3
HP CPU N270 @ 1.60GHz.

I have tried downloading and installing software for Broadcom 802.11b/g but nothing seems to work. Desperate to get my wireless sorted.

if you goto device manager and network adapter - right click on the device can you enable it ?

On the note book is there an on/off switch on the machine anywhere - or it may be a combination of FN + F key - often the F2 key is used

would you post an xirrus and device manager screen shot
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.
Direct link to the program is here

{If the above link does not work heres another link,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

A user guide is available here

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name"... Read more

Checked for viruses with stinger and housecall - clean. Checked for odd processes - none. Checked for spyware - clean. This is on a corporate network - had to manually remove (removed registry keys too). Reinstalled - same thing. You can enable it but it instantly goes back to disabled (the little red circle with a slash through it). I'm clueless as to the fix short of reimaging. Any ideas?

Answer:Mcafee Disabled - can't enable

try reinstalling it to a non-default directory
instead of C:/McAfee (or whateber) try C:/ScRewYoUhAxOr

Online virus scans are not infallible
you could easily have a Trojan
trial TDS-3 and install per the instructions in the help.txt to a nondefault directory, and manually update the definitions (links regarding that in the link above)

then > Configuration Button > Startup Tab > Check all in intialization and Startup Scanning > Save
Scan Control Button > Scan Options Tab > Check all except the 2 ADS options > then Available Scans > Select all move to right pane > Start Scanning

will peg you resources, and you wont be able to do anything till its done,
f there is a Remote Administration Trojan that was missed
it should find it

Right click on the Recording Tab to Show Disabled Devices.

I started with what might or might not have been a malware problem described in this thread:

At this point, I have no reason to believe that the problem is malware. However, what had been happening was that after I logged in, my various startup items would not start up, and I would get an hourglass whenever I visited the Windows toolbar with my mouse.

So I decided I would try turning off startup items to see which ones might be causing the problem. I did so by running msconfig and disabling startup items as I went along.

Along the way, msconfig started giving the following message:

"An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes."

As I was already logged in with administrative privileges, I do not think this should have happened.

Now, I can't do much of anything, because almost all Windows services are disabled, and each time I try to enable one, it says that it needs another service before I can do anything.

At the moment, I am logged in as Administrator, and the Services program shows that only the following services are running:

DCOM Service
FlexNet Licensing Service
IPS Core Service
Norton Security Suite
Remote Procedure Call (but not RPC Locator)
Terminal Services

Is there any way to figu... Read more

Answer:Almost all services disabled, can't enable them.

While waiting for a reply, I tried the experiment of going through the overall list of services and setting them to be enabled in pretty much the same way as they are on my other machine, which works normally.

The result is that I'm now back to the state I was in before: I log in, and get an hourglass every time I move the mouse over the taskbar.

I am thinking, therefore that one of my startup items is still hanging, so I'm not getting fully logged in.

Is there any way of finding out which item or items it might be?

I disabled Cortana and Telemetry a couple weeks ago, but now I want to reverse my actions.
Here's what I did initially:

In regedit -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Policies > Microsoft > Windows > Windows Search
I created a new DWORD and named it AllowCortana, and set the value to 0.

I also went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Policies > Microsoft > Windows > DataCollection
I create a new DWORD and named it AllowTelemetry and set it to 0.

Lastly, in the Services tab of Task Manager, I disabled dmwappushsvc, and Connected User Experiences and Telemetry.

In an attempt to reverse my actions last night, I re-enabled the two things in Services, and I changed my two registry keys to a value of '1', and then rebooted. No change. Also tried deleting my DWORDs and rebooting. No change.
I have run sfc /scannow, no problems detected.
I have run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, no problems.
Ran /RestoreHealth anyway, no change.
I checked gpedit Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Search > Allow Cortana, and she's enabled.
Cortana is still replaced by a magnifying glass called "Search", and no mention of Cortana is in the right-click menu of the taskbar.

If I click on Search, then click the Settings icon, it takes me to the Settings home.

I'm trying to get rid of the pop-up that Internet Explorer gives that tells me that I can speed up my browsing by disabling add-ons. All the googling I've done tells me to run gpedit.msc and go to Administrative Templates ? Windows Components ? Internet Explorer and enable "Disable add-on performance notifications". I've run gpedit.msc and searched through the options, and no-where can I find "Disable add-on performance notifications". The only option that mentions add-ons is "Do not allow users to enable or disable add-ons". I've opened that up just in case the option I want is hidden within that, but it doesn't seem to be.

Can anyone tell me where to find this option, or if it could be called something else?

I tried running an app registry key reset found here, but that did not solve the problem, and tried running "sfc /scannow" in the command prompt to check for corrupted files but came up with no errors.

The apps that are missing in the system settings notification menu are twitter, alarms, duolingo, facebook, and pretty much everything else except the mail and calendar apps. How do I add them, or at least get my computer to recognize that they exist?

In an attempt to fix my Pictures repeatedly crashing File Explorer (nothing else does this and it has only happened since the machine was upgraded to 8.1) I applied the following fix:

1. Open Run dialog by pressing Win+R. Type regedit and press enter, it will open Registry Editor window.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ {8E74D236-7F35-4720-B138-1FED0B85EA75}\ShellFolder (use Find or manually open the tree from left panel).
3. Right-click on ShellFolder, then go to Permissions and click Advanced.
4. Click Change at the top.
5. Change owner to your user then press OK.
6. Check the ?Replace owner on subcontainers and objects? box and ?Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this subject? box then press OK.
7. In the original Permissions box, click on your user if it exists (otherwise, click Add and add your user). Check the ?Full Control? box under your user and press OK.
8. Go back in the Registry Editor, double-click the Attributes key in ShellFolder and set its value to 0.

This wouldn't be a big deal to re-enable, but there's only other account other than the admin account a user account. The problem is that other account has parental controls on it, and the only way to re-enable the admin account is with a password, but since the admin account was disabled it seems to be glitched as the previous password is no longer working.

I've tried to dual boot my laptop with SuSe - originally running XP. I installed SuSe after Norton Partition Magc 8 said to, I can boot SuSe fine.
Now when I want to get back into Windows, it wont start. Same error message everytime. autochk and xmnt2002 are missing.
I have run the recovery console, FIXMBR + FIXBOOT. Not fixed, same error. I was going to reinstall leaving file system intact just so I can get some photo's off it, and then reinstall properly - but it wont let me do that because it says in the list of partitions that you choose to install onto C: Partition disabled. So Partition magic has disbaled the C: partition so I can install SuSe, but without some boot loader (Magic Boot) which I dont have installed- I cant re-enable the c: partition and get back into Windows...!

The option to boot to C: comes fromt he SuSe boot loader (grub i believe - nto 100% sure though)

So I really need to be able to manually re-enable that C: partition.

Anyone have any idea how I might do that?!

Thanks in advance...

Answer:How to enable disabled\unused sounds?

right-click on your desktop and go to personalize settings and there click sounds at the bottom and there you wil probably find it

Answer:How to enable disabled Intel HD graphics?

hi Beliah,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
This thread is pretty similar to your concern.
Triggering Safemode will help you do a system restore.
If you're still running WIndows 7
try tapping F8 When you power ON the computer and you'll get the option to boot into safemode.
Hope this helps

Hello, I recently purchased a new mic. The sound itself works perfectly. But the mic does not work, I did go to recording devices and enabled show disabled devices, I see "Microphone" but when I click enable nothing happens, it stays disabled. I have realtek HD Audio Manager and I am not sure if it picks up my mic. I tired 3 different ports. Keyboard, front panel and back panel. Nothing works. I tried with a different mic and still the same error. The mic does not use its own drivers, it uses Windows drivers such as the Realtek HD audio manager.

Answer:My Microphone is stuck on disabled, won't enable.

Welcome to the forum.
Here is how to post screenshots on this forum
Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

What kind of mic do you have? A USB connected or a standard computer mic with a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo plug?

I notice in the Recording section screenshot that Stereo Mix is Disabled. That should be set as the default recording device. RIGHT click in a blank area in that panel and click to Show Disabled and Disconnected Devices. Then Enable the Stereo Mix and make it the Default recording device. That may not fix the mic, but it is a first step, as having Stereo Mix set then whatever input device is used is heard, and if you ever want to record audio from the Internet you must have Stereo Mix.

somehow my little brother has managed to disable the task manager on my dads pc, and i cant figure out how he did it. at the same time hes also managed to clear out all of the administritative tools, which i thought would be the way to get it back

anyidea how to re enable the task manager?

Answer:re-enable disabled task manager?

is it set up for multiple users? if so then try changing the user that he has back to computer administrator in users control panel. (change type of computer user).

You'd need to log in as an administrator to do that.

Otherwise if its single user then you may have to log in as Administrator.....

Hey guys. I've got a weird problem. I have 2 machines and 1 laptop (which uses wireless for internet access). Last night on the laptop, I disabled the internet connection by going to My Network places-NW connections, right clicking on the internet connection and the wireless connection and choosing 'disable'. After a while, I go back to the same place and enable my wireless connection, but the internet connection doesnt show in the my NW connections window. So now I am unable to get on the internet from the laptop.

So I go to the other 2 machines (which had not been touched) and I can't get on the internet with those 2 either! I am using a Dlink router and a cable modem. I'm getting an IP address but if I try to ping the internet, I get nothing. I also tried resetting the router and the modem, with no luck. I plugged in the router first, then the modem, if that makes a difference.

Should I try a release/renew? other ideas??

Please help!

Hi, My Packard Bell laptop is running Windows XP. Somehow my CD/DVD drive has become disabled. The whole D drive seems to have just vanished into thin air.

I've been into regedit and removed the upper and lower filters and it still wont work.

I cant find the device in device manager. Infact the only place I have found it is in BIOS where it says its disabled.

Please can someone help me, its really starting to drive me mad lol...

Oh I also went to system restore and tried to restore the computer back three months when I know it was working but it wouldnt let me for some unknown reason. Im sure somewhere there must just be an enable/disable button but I cant find it.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Answer:Bios says cd/dvd drive is disabled - how do I enable?

Try installing another optical drive and see if it is detected properly

Win7HP legit. PC details in profile I assume.

I have no idea when, but at some point my Windows Update disabled. I didn't notice it until one night I was sitting there with my wife and her computer did a security update while mine did nothing.

I have no symptoms aside from that. No browser hijacks, all my programs run, etc. I use AVG Free, the paid version of Malwarebytes (both of which run nightly), and Windows Firewall (Just installed ZoneAlarm today) as a security suite.

Here's what I've done so far today and what was found.
AVG Full System Scan: Nothing
AVG Rootkit Scan: Nothing
AVG Resident Shield: Tracking Cookies
Malwarebytes: Nothing
SUPERAntiSpyware: More Tracking Cookies

Is that the case?

I was having problems reconnecting a bluetooth speaker for my Acer desktop with windows 8.1 OS so tried disabling the default RealTek HD Audio. Now it doesn't show up as a speaker--only my bluetooth speaker that it says is disconnected show. When I look at my device manager it is there, and says that it is working. But I don't see how to re-enable it.

In my device manager under Sound, Video and game controllers there is
--Bluetooth Audio Device (with caution sign)
--ES151A Stereo--bluetooth speaker I was having problems reconnecting in the first place
--Intel(R) Display Audio
--RealTek High Definition Audio (the speaker that I disabled and now cannot re-enable)

When I go to Manage Audio Devices under Sound the only thing showing is the ES-151A stereo which it says is disconnected. I did not expect disabling the RealTek Audio to remove it from the list and thought that it could be re-enabled the same way that I disabled it.

Answer:Cannot re-enable disabled RealTek HD Audio

Uninstall the RealTek in the Device Manager. DO NOT uninstall the RealTek drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the RealTek sound. This fixes most Windows/Sound corruptions.

From out of nowhere it seems, I suddenly have no sound. I haven't done anything to my computer from when I had sound yesterday to when I don't have sound today. In the device manager it says my Realtec AC97 driver is disabled, i.e. the scary red X, which I did not physically do. I have no other audio drivers or sound cards. Yet when I go to enable the AC97 driver, I get a STOP error and memory dump and am told to restart the computer. Here's the analysis I get:

Stop: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xB09A2801, 0xF7C76B54, 0xF7C76854)
ALCXWDM.sys - Address BD9A2801 base at B0989000, Datestamp 40e3b3db

I've tried re-installing the AC97 driver from the CD that came with my mobo (figured maybe a piece of data had gotten deleted somewhere) but with no luck.

I've just been using the on-board sound for a couple months now since I've built this computer, waiting to buy a good sound card. When I do buy a sound card, I am to assume that the manufactor (likely Creative Labs) will install their own driver. Would this then make the issue of the AC97 driver being disabled moot?

Answer:Realtek AC97 disabled - can't re-enable

Well I found my solution... all I did was uninstall the driver and reboot. The computer then found the new hardware...

Toolbars are enabled in IE8 but disabled in IE9 and I cannot enable them. IE9 was working fine then all of a sudden I opened it and all toolbars were disabled. When I click on enable nothing happens. I can't even print because it is disabled. Everything works in IE8 so I feel the problem is IE9. Any suggestions?

Answer:IE9 toolbars disabled unable to enable

Well, I guess you could go ahead with the IE Reset as already suggested in #1. If you do so then you would have to somehow re-instate the add-ons afterwards. At the worst this could mean uninstall & reinstall of both Norton and your Print program unless you can find a way of obtaining the add-ons again. Uninstalling AV's can be messy and they must be disabled before doing so. There is a Norton uninstaller available which is very useful if you go that way. Not too sure how you would continue your subscription which could be another issue.Maybe the best bet is to first check with Symantec-Norton website and see if they provide a download for their addon - it's quite likely. In which case you just install the addon again after IE reset. You presumably have a CD for your Print program and the addon would probably restore by simply installing the program again without uninstall.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Here's the skinny:

I downloaded the RC over the summer to try it out, alongside linux mint. I like it so much that I've decided to abandon the linux distro for now and let Windows 7 take over my whole hard drive. The one thing remaining before falling in love is the lack of standby mode. The sleep function is grayed out in the start menu, so I can't even put it to sleep. This is annoying because I'm using a laptop at school, which I would like to put on standby (instead of hibernating) between classes. This is a 100% fresh install. It was the first thing I tried once the install finished, because I had trouble with the previous Win7 install. I can't figure it out.... Maybe a bios update?? Please Help!!

I have a HP tc4200.

Here's a screenshot
