Preferred Solution: CES 2018: ASUS announces new laptops, all-in-one PCs and a gaming laptop powered by Windows 10

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please help. I have an Asus F555LA-NS72 laptop with windows 10 on it. It ran out of power during a windows update and shut off. I turned it on it told me to choose a keyboard language. I chose it and it took me to Windows Recovery environment. I couldn't restore it because I had no restore points saved and the startup repair didn't work either and I had no disks to restore windows 10 from. So I chose Windows rollback to my previous version and it eventually just went to a black screen but my cursor would show up when I moved it but would disappear seconds later. I left it That way overnight and it was the same when I woke up. Now I turn it on and it goes to the black screen again after the Asus logo appears and i have no way to access windows recovery environment nor boot into safe mode. However I can go into the BIOS menu. Any tips? I really need help with this I've only had this laptop a few months. I apologize if there's any typos I'm posting this from my phone.

I wish my ASUS Laptop to be 'on' 24/7 as an Apache Server. It works perfectly now but after several hours, I cannot visit my web site hosted on this Laptop. Altho the Power Lite is lit, the machine cannot be accessed from my router.

I looked over all the power settings (and there are *many* of them), but can't find suitable settings that:

a. Will allow access 24/7 to my site visitors, But,

b. Let the display go blank after several minutes of *my* not using it.

Q:
What are the detailed Power Settings for 24/7 operation without my attendance at the machine, and web site visitors get immediate access to my site ? I don't mind the display going black as long as the machine springs into action when a client visits.

Thank you

I recently purchased an Inspiron Gaming Series Dell laptop and since yesterday when I open it/turn on the power button the screen displays green/white vertical triangle lines (can provide an image). It DOES NOT display the Dell logo at all and doesn't even give me the opportunity to sign in, it just stays stuck on the screen.
This laptop is fairly new, purchased back in August, so it should still be under warranty, but it worries me that it is having issues when it is still fairly new. What could be the cause of it? Any way I can fix it?

Answer:New Inspiron Gaming Laptop- Vertical Lines When Powered On

I'd suggest updating the System Setup(BIOS). Please following the instructions in the video below to safety installed latest BIOS version.

Hi,
I recently purchased a new gaming laptop (an asus vx7) and have had no problems using it offline. I took it online for the first time yesterday and it downloaded a slew of compulsory updates and patches for windows 7, as well as two patches for the witcher 2. After using my laptop today I experienced considerably slower loading times on all programs as well as game breaking lag on medal of honor. I have downloaded no otter programs and have not installed anything apart from moh and witcher 2. Seeing as these programs ran fine until today I'm assuming it has something to do with the windows 7 updates?
Any help is appreciated

Not all Windows updates are good, especially those that update your drivers. Never ever install those, drivers should come from the maker of board/card only!

Restore the machine to the previous point and start again. I can't guarantee that's the issue but it's a likely culprit.

BTW, turn off automatic updates and change to 'notify only', then choose what you want to install..

Very strange issue here is happening here. When the laptop T410s is always off before it's docked, so once it's docked I press the power button and no image shows up on the external monitor. I then open the lid of the T410s, press the power button on the laptop, quickly close the lid and it comes up. I've tried different docking stations, power supplies and the issue still persisted. I then tried another Lenovo T410 and it boots fine. Here's the kicker... When the T410s is not powered down while docked and only logged off, then undocked, and then powered down. When it's reseated into the dock and powered up it works fine. It then made me believe there was a Docking profile issue. I've removed the docking profiles and recreated them, since it that didn't work; I even set XP to allow us to manually choose whether it's docked or undocked. This did not work. Is anyone else experiencing this or have the expertise on this subject?

Answer:If laptop is powered off on dock, will not display image when powered back on.

I have a T410s with 2 external monitors that I always used. 1x24inch LCD connected using VGA to VGA and 1x26inch LCD connected using displayport to HDMI. It used to be fine until some intel grapics driver update a while back. So I come to believe is the driver fault and/or the internal graphic card lack of capacity. My solution is to setup the monitors the way I like is to change the BIOS to boot up from displayport, and when successful going into the desktop then disable the laptop LCD. Then connect the 2nd LCD, extend the desktop and setup the resolution. From that point on I must always boot up with VGA disconnect then after into desktop, plug in the VGA cable and it will show up fine. If I forget and left the displayport + VGA connected when I bootup, it will fail and I have to do the initial setup again. So something with the displayport/graphic card/graphic memory is making the T410s 'forget' or discard the displayport. or the 1900x1200 resolutions of 2x monitors overwhelm the graphics card memory and it had to made a choice or give up. Most of the time it just goes blank or flash on/off In your case, if you only have 1x external monitor you can just change the BIOS to bootup screen in VGA/Displayport/Dock and when in the dsektop, set to duplicate mode for both screens. Then download this utility called ultramon and use it to setup the extended display setting to your liking, save the profile on the desktop/startup folder. When your T410s bootup, int... Read more

I've tried all possible solutions including running anti-virus/malware scans, CCleaner, Defraggler, updating all drivers, etc. EVERYTHING SHORT of a system wipe which I feel is not something I want to do unless all other means have been expired. I have run some tests and know that this is not a connection issue.

Computer Specs:
Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.4
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700HQ CPU @ 2.40GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 60 Stepping 3
Processor Count: 8
RAM: 8075 Mb
Graphics Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600, 1024 Mb
Hard Drives: C: 279 GB (41 GB Free); D: 398 GB (194 GB Free);
Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC., G56JR
Antivirus: Avira Antivirus, Disabled

I also have GPU : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M
Hard drive capacity are also no where near full.

I can take the laptop back to ASUS for a system wipe but it is not something that I want to do because they would require 5 working days as well as needing to back-up everything on my laptop.

Are there any possible explanation to why this problem occurs? Perhaps some settings tuned wrong or some other hardware issues?

Hey I was planning on buying another laptop but last night this one caught my eye, It's by Asus, It's located here

Newegg.ca - ASUS K42 Series K42JV-X1 NoteBook Intel Core i5 450M(2.40GHz) 14" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M

I think it's a great price for a pretty good processor (Intel i5 450M) and a great graphics card (Nvidia GT335M) which is also in the new alienware M11X which is even more expensive than this laptop, so what do you think? I think i'm going to buy it, if you aren't sure yet just take a look at this laptop running GTA 4 Episodes From Liberty City on medium at an average of 25 FPS

I'm going to be buying this laptop around christmas time hopefully, what do you think about it? I think it's awesome for less than 1000 dollars

Answer:New ASUS Laptop For Gaming

I agree, it seems pretty cool! However its screen is only 14''. Isn't a bit small for games? Unless you connect it to an external monitor or tv!

Ive been having this performance issue in games: starcraft, world of warcraft, most games that I have. When the windows 7 service pack came out I installed it, I thought that was the problem so I reinstalled my windows getting rid of the service pack but I still have the performance issues.
To give a example I was playing Starcraft Ultra settings and I barley can play on medium. I hope you can give me some solution.

My nephew wants to get a gaming laptop, but he wants to spend no more then $1000. We're thinking of finding something for something like $800-850, and then he can use the rest to load up on Steam games. What is a good laptop? I've been looking, but models like Alienware are overhyped and expensive. He doesn't need to play Crysis maxed, just games like: Portal 2, L4D, RE5, Skyrim, and so on - nothing "intense". I'd like him to run most games at max.

What are some good brands? I prefer not to even let him near HP since I've had nothing but issues.

I found the ASUS N53SV-EH72 model, Amazon.com: ASUS N53SV-EH72 15.6-Inch Full HD Dynamic Entertainment Laptop (Silver Aluminum): Electronics

I don't want him to spend over $900 because he wants to get games too.

Answer:Gaming Laptop - Asus N53SV

I think you'll be happy with that laptop.

From what info I got on website the new asus xg station soon to come out should solve the low end graphics and processing in notebooks for those wanting to run high end games like CALL of DUTY 4, its an external component which plugs into the PCI Express card slot with its own power cord and plays on 2nd monitor, my question is: my lenovo 3000 Y410 has a intel 1.66 duocore processor integrated graphics card [intel R GMA 965 X3100], will the XG station also increase the processing? My 1.66 duo is not nearly enough. thanks plowboy

I'm having a super annoying problem with my gaming notebook. when i go into almost any game and have it set to full 1900 by 1200 with high detail and stuff every couple seconds my screen goes white with some lines in it for like half a second, almost like the LCD's FFC cables were half connected. It makes it virtually impossible to play a game. I have a full replacement warrenty with Memory express. But i just wanted to see if maybe it was a driver issue or not. I used the original restore discs when i installed vista last. The video card is a ati Radeon HD 2600. This is really annoying as i bought it for a gaming laptop and i can't even game cause i get white screens all the time.

Just wondering if anyone else had this problem. I put Windows 10 on my Vaio laptop and it seemed all was well and good. Then the Wi-Fi stopped connecting. Seems Sony is behind in getting drivers ready for V10. Also there may be a problem with Asus and so I did not try V10 on that laptop yet. Anyone know anything further about this? Any ideas? I liked Windows 10 but am going to wait awhile and see what happens.

Sold! As in.. I've been in the market for over a month to buy a gaming laptop and couldn't find one worth wasting money on.

I say this for two reasons:

1) GTX980M - this thing is a whole other beast to the 970M. Forget about the 960M altogether.
2) 1920 x 1080 - THANK F%^&ING GOD!! Stop offering me "gaming" laptops with 4k screens and GTX960M/970Ms that can't possibly drive them! A vast majority of gamers are still playing on 22 inch 1080 res desktop monitors and this thing is only 17". It sounds pretty having that 4K moniker in there.. but.. stop it already!

I have an Acer laptop.

Answer:Poor Windows and gaming performance on Asus K53U

That's not a gaming laptop, by any stretch of the definition.

If you want to play games, here are some options:
- Turn down all graphics settings on games to minimum, and use 800 x 600 resolution. Pray that works.
- Go back to the store you got it from and see if you can return it as store credit to buy a more expensive machine.

Hi, moving to vancouver and I've been looking on craigslist vancouver for a good used gaming laptop. What would be some really good ones to be on the lookout for? I've been looking at reviews on random websites, some more personal advice would be much appreciated and a good reference when I'm looking. If you could give me a price estimate for it too, that would be nice, so I know if it's a good deal or not. From the info I've got so far, a duo core processor, 512MB video card and 2 gigs of ram is a good start? I like playing online games like Battlefield 2, some strategy games and want something that won't chop out at all and have good graphics. I have 2 $60+ games that my current machine can't even run, so I think a new unit is a good idea. Oh, and something with a little room for upgrades is always nice. Thanks in advance!

Question: Gaming Laptops

When it comes to gaming laptops, if one is not interested in building one and would like to purchase a ready-made one, are Alienware computers really the best as far as graphics?

Are there other brand of good off-the shelf gaming laptops?

Links?

Thank you.

Answer:Gaming Laptops

Realistically speaking, your question is a bit vague.
What price range are we looking at?
What games do you want to play?
How heavy a gamer are you?

Personally it looks to me like you "just want a laptop" but I strongly advise doing some research and reading critic and consumer reviews.

From everything I know, Alienware are not the be all and end all.
I like Asus products in general, Toshiba also have a wide range. However I cannot confirm nor deny how good their gaming laptops are, since laptops are not really built for real gaming and I'm not much of a laptop guy, I am a gamer though but I don't think I could get a laptop powerful enough for what I like for much under $1500 CAD.

One thing I will say, no matter how much you want it... don't rush into buying one, lot of money only to find out it wont actually do what you thought it would.

Research, research, research

I'm looking to buy a laptop in September/October, but they're not something I've usually gone for on the premise of getting more for my money with a desktop. However, constraints on how much I can carry mean I'm going to have to go for a laptop.

I'm keen on getting Skyrim when it comes out (indeed it's the news of Skyrim that's prompted me to finally upgrade), so I'm after something that'll play it on highest settings.

But where should I begin? I'm really not laptop 'brand' savvy in the slightest, except knowing what to avoid. I've heard good things about Sager, but I really know very little about any of them.

So who's bad, who's good and who's god?

Answer:Gaming laptops - where's best?

What is your budget? Price varies depending on what you need.

Question: Gaming Laptops

I am about to start a new job that requires a significant amount of travel( up up 90%.) I am extremely excited about the new opportunity, but I won't be around much to use my desktop, so I am looking to buy a "Gaming" laptop.
Something that isn't overly heavy since I will be lugging it around the continent.
Something with decent performance to play games like Diablo 3 and Elder Scrolls(not online.)
Decent battery life nothing extreme just maybe more than 4 hours.

I have been looking at MSI, ASUS ROG, Razer Blade and a few others. I am thinking screen size of 14 or 15 with 1080p. The 3k laptops seem like to many pixels on a small screen. And for the most part I will probably carry a mouse and keyboard and try to use the TV in the hotel room if it had HDMI.

If there is something that has been announced that I should wait on let me know. I am okay with waiting.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Answer:Gaming Laptops

My brand preference will be MSI. I've owned both an Asus G73jh and MSI GT780DX.... and I prefer the MSI hands down. Mostly because of 1 feature that I haven't seen on other brands really: their "cooler booster" feature, which when you enable it, it will kick the CPU/GPU fan up to 100%, and drastically help cool it down. Otherwise you're relying on the auto-fan, which can be problematic and not work like it should (my Asus never stayed cool enough - I always had to put it on top of a book, and then put a desk fan next to it to blow cool air under the laptop itself...otherwise during games like Skyrim, it would crash and turn off due to the amount of heat it was putting out).

HiI am thinking of buying an Asus laptop in the price range £400 - £600. Can anyone please tell me if Asus is a reliable make?

Answer:Asus laptops

Asus are my favourite brand of laptops. They look lovely and are really well built. I have had 3 (2 Asus A6s and an Asus A7)and have had no problems with them what-so-ever. They also come with a 2 year warranty which most laptops do not. The only time I have had a problem with my laptop is when I broke a USB port by accident. Asus collected the laptop the next day and it came back all fixed under warranty four days later- their customer service seemed to be very good.I don't personally think you would regret buying one.

The MSI or Valkyrie are the best bang due to the 870m,

But I don't know much about the ideaPad with the 775m. The 24Gig SSD is probably a mSATA drive not a 2.5" SSD. My Alienware has a 60Gig used for caching.

The upside of the Alienware is they have great upgradeability over generations, but pricey.

That should help you make your choice.

So I'm looking to buy a laptop in the near future for university and I want to get the best deal I can for the least money possible. I've researched this a fair amount and I have come up with a few ideas but it would be nice if I could get some other suggestions as well. My price range is between 900$-1500$ but I would like to keep it on the 1300$ side. I want it fast, possibly with the new i& processor and it needs a good video card..

First I saw that the Dell Studio XPS 16 was a decent all around model. I saw that I fix it up with a nice new Intel Core i7 Processor and a good video card for with 500GB memory and 4GB of RAM, I than noticed that i could get a Dell Studio 15 with the same hardware for quite a bit less. (All of this is running on Windows 7). What I'm asking for is a few suggestions from people who have possibly been in the same situation, I want the best deal possible for an affordable laptop that is fast and good for gaming. I don't want to spend 1500$ on a laptop that is okay when I could get an awesome one for 1200$. Hey fellas, I finally cut-short my list to these 3 gaming laptops. So, I just want you to rate these 3 laptops on the aspect of their performance (playing games fluently). I?ll be thankful if you can rate these 3 laptops by giving them marks out of 10(again just consider the gaming performance aspect). Additionally, please also tell me what the difference between switchable graphics is. Are switchable graphics are known as crossfire/SLI.Here are the 3 laptops with their specifications. 1) LENOVO Y560, PROCESSOR: core i7-740QM, RAM: 4GB DDR3, HARD DISK:500GB @5400rpm, GRAPHICS CARD: dedicated 1GB DDR3 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, SCREEN AND RESOLUTION: 15.6 HD LED Glare 1366*768. 2) DELL XPS 15, PROCESSOR: core i7-740QM, RAM: 4GB DDR3, HARD DISK: 500GB @7200rpm, GRAPHICS CARD: dedicated 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 435M, SCREEN & RESOLUTION: 15.6 FHD(1920*1080) B+RGLED display with TrueLife. 3) MSI GX660, PROCESSOR: core i5-460M, RAM: 4GB DDR3, HARD DISK: 500GB SATA @5400 rpm, GRAPHICS CARD: dedicated 1GB DDR5 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870, SCREEN & RESOLUTION: 15.6 HD,Glare(1366*768) LED.

Has anyone got opinions or experience of Asus laptops?I`ve been looking at the A6J and the Z92KM (which has an AMD 64 MT32 processor)but cannot really find many reviews on Asus laptops. I`ve also been looking at the Acer 5612 range of duel processor laptops as well but maybe the Asus range represents a better buy and better quality? Many thanks for your help.

Hello,

I am ready to buy a new laptop after my last HP 15. It is getting slower and slower and I think it is time for an upgrade.

OK, so here are some of my thoughts:

ASUS
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-15-...&skuId=4831500

Toshiba Satellite Radius 14 E45W-C4200X
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/toshiba-...&skuId=4203501

Is the Toshiba any good? ASUS any good? I am on a budget between $300 and $400. Nothing higher, just something I can use here and there and trips like in hotels, on the road, etc.

So what do you guys think I should do? I will be (maybe) buying one this Friday, June 3, 2016, (along with some CD's Ask me if you'd like, anyway haha) I am trying to decide which one to get, but I torn. The ASUS is cheap and looks very nice (love the eye candy it has) and I have heard very good things about them, I even have an ASUS motherboard and is very well built. Now, the Toshiba looks nice, but have read mixed reviews on it. I would like to hear some people who have had experience with these similar laptops and tech people, and would love to hear opinions from anyone really!

Thanks! C.C.

Answer:ASUS vs Toshiba Laptops

I just bought my daughter and ASUS Transformer similar to this but it has 6 gb RAM and Windows 10 pre-installed:
ASUS Flip R554LA-RH31T 15.6" 2-in-1 Laptop Computer - Black R554LA-RH31T - Micro Center

So far it has been a great computer that both her and I like.

My wife has a Toshiba 15.6" Touchscreen laptop. I hate it. It is slower than molasses. I won't ever buy another Toshiba.

My HP Pavilion DV-6 17.3" laptop was refurbished when I bought it. It has and continues to be a workhorse. Been around the world on Navy ships and in the Middle East dessert with me, it's beat to heck, but still going strong!

Hi everyone, I'm looking into one of these two laptops here on Amazon. I plan on using them for gaming as well as other things (school use, bits of encoding related stuff, etc) They have to be purchased via Amazon as I will be paying with a Store Card. Anyway, here they are:

ASUS N71JQ-X1:

http://www.amazon.com/N71JQ-X1-17-3...ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1291868067&sr=1-2

MSI GX740-235US:
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GX740-235US-17-Inch-Laptop-Black/dp/tech-data/B0040HMLAQ/ref=de_a_smtd

My dilemma is that one has an i7, and the other has an i5 with a better video card and higher resolution. I'm not sure if losing the 2 cores is worth the addition of the better video card.

If there's anything better on the site that I may have overlooked, please let me know. My budget is absolutely no more than $1200.

Thanks in advance

OK so I'm trying to pick out a gaming laptop and I know very little about computers as I am just starting to get into playing online games. I'm going to be playing either Aion, WoW, or a FPS like CoD. My price range is $800 to $1100. I don't care about playing everything on the best settings I just don't want the computer to be really slow in populated areas or when I'm PvPing. I've read reviews on everything from gateway to asus then over to dell and basicly I have no idea whats really good and what is just ok for what you are paying for.

Thanks!

My screen seems to be flicking black sometimes especially when I move the screen back or forth. Sometimes its minor with very small flickering and sometimes it keeps flicking until I move my screen back and forth a couple of times. I?m afraid my laptop will eventually just black out. i changed my resoultion and there seems no huge change. i changed from the nvidia graphics o regular intel and it seems no different. I am thinking its an hardware issue. I reinstalled drivers from the actual site, formatted at least 4 times, updated drivers and bios. This laptop was fine for the first few months and now it seems like its getting worse through time. Please anyone, I can?t return my laptop now since I need it for college. I am unsure what to do and I really need advice. Thank you for your time.If you have any ideas please let me know.

I have configured two laptops that seem to meet the specifications of most modern graphics-intensive games (Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Call of Duty: World at War, etc.). Which is going to be better for gaming? I am familiar with graphics cards, but I'm not sure which is better in this case, but I'm sure 512 MB of video memory will suffice. So I have an Asus laptop and every time I restart the computer, when the computer boots up, the wi-fi drops. This isn't just my laptop. My roommate just got an Asus as well, different series a lil cheaper but a lil newer. My laptops only about a year or so old, but his does the same as well. When we boot up the wireless drops and seems to restart because if we wait long enough about 2 mins or so the wireless will come back up. BUT when someone comes over with any other computer like a mac or something it doesn't do it. They just can connect no problem. I'm not sure if its Asus or the wireless router we are using which is a Linksys N. Also it will just randomly drop, not as often but still annoying. If you could help that would be awesome. Thanks

Answer:Wireless drops with Asus laptops

Welcome to TSG:
Some things you could try.
Go to the Asus site, download any current adapter drivers.
Download current firmware for your router.
Disable encryption on your router.See if that helps.
Make sure that you only have 1 wireless manager active.Windows default or the adapter manager but not both.
What is the description of your wireless card from device manager ?
For the random drops, try changing the wireless channel.1/6/11 in US
Another thing to try.
Boot up in safe mode with networking.Any change ?

One thing I have tried and wondered how to do (as many other people I know) is to connect laptops with wireless capabilities together when there is no router and no internet. It seems like it would be simple, since you can transfer files, why can't you play, say, StarCraft 2-player with two laptops over their wireless cards?

Is there, say, a program that will let you set up a LAN-type connection from laptop to laptop. My friend and me want to play against eachother on some games on eachother's laptops, and we have a/b/g cards and Wi-Fi (I have bluetooth and N card but I don't know if he does). Oh, and of course, we both have a copy of each game. We're not trying to play with only one copy. This is just a matter of having two laptops with no internet or router.

Thanks for any info,
jacfalcon

Have been having this problem for a while now.

Every so often, the headhphone jack on my laptop just stops working after hours and hours of the laptop being on.

The built-in speakers of the laptop work fine. What happens is that while the computer is in use (after some random amount of time), any hardware plugged into the headphone jack of the laptop will not playback sound. This includes headphones, speakers and the like. The sound device manager in control panel shows sound being output, and if the headphones/speakers are disconnected, the audio plays fine on the built-in speakers on the laptop.

I haven't been able to figure out what exactly causes this problem. I have tried resinstalling the driver several times. I am 100% sure it isn't the headphones of the speakers that I use as I use these speakers and headphones on many other devices (phone, tablet etc.)

The only way that this issue gets fixed is if the computer is shut down and then rebooted (a restart doesn't work, the computer has to literally lose power for the problem to be fixed).

It seems very intermittent and I'm not sure how to approach this problem

Any ideas?

Answer:Headphone Jack on Laptop Stops Working Until Laptop is Powered Off

One idea would be a look the power plan in use. If you are running with the default Balanced power plan you may be seeing that nterfere by conserving battery power temporarily turning the audio off being a constant drain. Another thought could be a result of the onboard audio chip itself getting too warm where the hardware protection circuit will then come in and deactivate all sound. That is usually seen as far as the cpu temp as well as other major components. The audio being onboard would also be monitored by the bios not so much by Windows.

The other possible cause of losing sound would be the headphone jack or the board end having a cold solder point getting warm and expanding just enough to break the connection until cooled off. The complete shutdown of power would tend to suggest a temp or regulation issue where either the power plan or temp monitoring would have to be watched. And one more thing would be setting the laptop on a fan cooled stand or effective notebook cooling pad to draw heat away from the unit if you are not already using one. Laptops are known to get quite warm with extended use since everything is packed into a tight space with the typical serious lack of air flow unlike the usual desktop with front, rear, and side or top case fans in use if not water cooled.

You have some things to consider in the list of things there. Increased overall cooling, not planning to use the laptop for extended periods of time which can allow for something to overheat i... Read more

My HP Omnibook xe4100 laptop has a broken DC Jack socket, i've decided to get another laptop as I want a faster one anyway.

Is there another way this machine can be powered? on the bottom of the unit theres metal contacts? 2 flat round ones and 2 metal clip types set in small square holes. Does anyone know what these are for?

I mostly want a way to power the machine to format the hard drive to clear my data.

Answer:HP Omnibook xe4100 Laptop, Broken DC Jack, Can the laptop be powered any other way?

Hello,

On the underside of the Omnibook xe4100 is a port replicator docking port.

The port replicator has an AC power port. I think it's possibe to power the laptop by docking it to the port replicator, and connecting the power adapter to the port. Though I'm not sure. Besides, this is costly and rather pointless since you can't really use the laptop anyway.

If you want to format the hard drive, then you could take it out and put it in another laptop and format it (if the laptop has the same hard drive interface, eg: PATA / SATA). Or you could purchase an external hard drive enclosure for 2.5" hard drives and format it.

If you're not going to use the hard drive again, then why not just remove it from the laptop and store it away, or destroy it?

hi to everyone. my asus laptop model is N53S and its been disconnecting the wifi connection about 3 month. i dont think the problem is from router because all other devices like android phones and laptops are connected and working properly. my laptop used to disconnect every time that it was hit or i moved it.but now it is disconnected randomly about 5 or 6 times a day even if i dont move it. when its disconnected sometimes the red cross or a yellow triangle appears on the wifi connection and windows functions so slowly and noises starts everytime i try to hear anything. i have tried re installing the wireless adapter in the device manager but it havent been fixed. do you think the wireless adapter should be replaced? what is its problem?

Hello everyoneI'm using a Lenovo Z510 with i5 4th gen, 2GB GT740M and 4 GB RAM.I have observed that while my laptop is not plugged into charging, the games are not running smoothly. I compared this with Lenovo S510p, which is a lot cheaper than mine (though its got 2GB GT820M) and was shocked to see that all the games that were lagging on my laptop are running smoothly on it with higher graphic settings than mine.I am talking about games like NFS Most Wanted 2012 and NFS Rivals here. But yes, the games do run perfectly when the laptop is plugged into charging.

Answer:Slower Gaming speed in comparison to cheaper laptops

Hi, Might want to do a little bit of research first. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GT-750M-vs-GeForce-820M 750m is the better card here, and the reason that your laptop downclocks itself and performs badly (as intended) when the power brick is unplugged is because your battery on the laptop can not supply enough voltage to the graphics card by itself to perform at its maximum. There is nothing you can do about it really and even if it did work just like it did plugged in your battery probably wouldn't last more than 20 minutes unplugged and playing. Just like if my y510 with SLI didn't use a 170w power brick or the power brick was unplugged I lose a whole graphics card and about half of the first card.

So I just got myself a Lenovo Legion gaming laptop , I am costumed to Lenovo adopting Hybrid HDDs where there is an on board SSD that automatically stores a copy of fast accessed files so to deliver them fast enough . This was sort of Brainless , however in this new setups they gave out a pure 1 TB HDD and a 256 GB SSD replacing the good old optical drive .

Now researching the internet its posted all over that SSDrives have limited write cycles and are not advised to keep files that are constantly rewritten which would ruin the device fast enough (Windows come to mind...) . So my question is , what is more optimal , to use the SSD disk to hold the windows installation for faster performance or should i keep it for games and graphical intensive programs that usually load up huge amount of data in memory for faster loading / less lag or there are better setup yet ?

Answer:Dual Storage Gaming Laptops HDD+SSD Optimal Settings

Use it as the primary and the HDD as a storage drive. Most of, if not all SSD have a shelf life of 1 to 1.5 million hours or longer. Known as MTFB (mean time between failure) and for an example the Samsung 850 Evo has a 2 million MTFB. So there is nothing to worry about.

Apple announces Windows browser

Answer:Apple Announces Windows Browser

It can be downloaded h e r e.From the site:Security Apple engineers designed Safari to be secure from day one.Thank goodness! Finally a browser that won't be needing security updates! Seriously, setting aside the fact that no program is ever perfect, it does seem like a good product. It's main competitor, in my opinion, is Firefox though, and not Internet Explorer as most seem to imply (TV and newspaper articles I've read.) Most people get IE for free with their PC, so the battle is mainly convincing folks to use an alternative. Also, it does say it is a "Public beta", so we shouldn't be too hard on it until it goes final. It will run on an iPhone - now that's got me all tingly inside.

Today we are very excited to announce a new edition of Windows 10 Pro designed to meet the needs of our advanced users deploying their Workstation PCs in demanding and mission-critical scenarios. Windows 10 Pro for Workstations will be delivered as part of our Fall Creators Update, available this fall.

Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, created with feedback from Windows Insiders, introduces new features to leverage the power of high-end PC hardware
The value of Windows 10 Pro for Workstations is directly aligned to increase the performance and reliability of high-end PCs, with the following features:
ReFS (Resilient file system): ReFS provides cloud-grade resiliency for data on fault-tolerant storage spaces and manages very large volumes with ease. ReFS is designed to be resilient to data corruption, optimized for handling large data volumes, auto-correcting and more. It protects your data with integrity streams on your mirrored storage spaces. Using its integrity streams, ReFS detects when data becomes corrupt on one of the mirrored drives and uses a healthy copy of your data on the other drive to correct and protect your precious data.
Persistent memory: Windows 10 Pro for Workstations provides the most demanding apps and data with the performance they require with non-volatile memory module... Read more

For windows 10, Microsoft has announced a pretty neat feature: Hololens.

Basically, Hololens are glasses that display holographs onto any surface (that you can only see). It can do anything from modifying 3d printable models to playing minecraft - on your kitchen table

What do you think? Will you buy Hololens? Or do you think it's just another business "experiment" by Microsoft? Answer in the poll or the comments. I personally think it's pretty amazing.

Apparently the future is now.

Is it safe to have stuff like that so close to your eyes?

Announcing the Windows 8 Editions

Answer:Microsoft Announces the Windows 8 editions

I'm glad they are going simple on this one. I'm seeing a lot of people complaining about the Windows 8 RT edition, though. I don't get the hate, though. It sounds like they are complaining just to complain.
There are so many things out there with full names that are never used. I'm going to buy a Windows 8 tablet. Unless I'm a techie, I'll never know that it's technically a "Windows 8 RT OS powered by an ARM CPU touchscreen tablet device".
So far, it looks like Windows 8 may be getting more trolls than Vista ever did. They are complaining about anything and everything - the SKU name of a tablet edition that isn't even available to purchase as an end user. I can't wait to see/hear the complaining when they release the box art for the retail boxes. I know there will be a lot of complaining on that one, too!

Microsoft announces a third ring for Windows 10 Insiders -- 'Release Preview'If you?re a Windows 10 Insider you currently have the choice of being in either the Fast or Slow rings. The Fast ring is used for cutting edge -- and potentially more buggy -- builds, while Slow ring releases tend to be pushed out less frequently, but are proven to be more stable.
Which ring you choose depends on how desperately you want to try out new builds -- it?s safe to say Fast ring releases aren?t really suited for use on your main PC. However, from today there?s now a third choice available to Insiders, and that?s the Release Preview ring.

This new ring, for both PC and mobile, focuses on Insiders who want to take hardly any risks at all, but still gain access to important OS, application, and driver updates before they are pushed out to non-insiders.
Builds on the Release Preview ring are based on the Current Branch, that is (for now) Build 10586.
Microsoft?s Gabe Aul explains the three rings like this:

Fast -- Best for Insiders who enjoy being the first to get access to builds and feature updates, with some risk to their devices in order to identify issues, and provide suggestions and ideas to make Windows software and devices great.Slow -- Best for Insiders who enjoy getting early access to builds and feature updates, with less ... Microsoft has revealed its next version of Windows due in late 2015, Windows 10...yes, 10! Not nine, like the number that sequentially follows the last couple of iterations, Windows 7 and 8, but 10...perhaps it's trying to distance itself from Windows 8 as much as it can, given the operating system's less than stellar reception

While Windows 8 tried to use a tablet-like tile-heavy interface on a PC, much to many people's chagrin, Windows 10 will tailor its UI depending on the sort of device it's running on...Windows VP Joe Belfiore demonstrated Windows 10's Start Menu in the following video...it's back to the good old-fashioned toolbar like the day of yore, though we get one of those fancy schmancy tile layouts once you actually click on the Start Menu...

Microsoft announces single-version Windows 7

Least believable April Fools article yet. Despite everything in that article being true, the big MS would never do something that logical.

I don't know if its the laptop or if it has to do with the router but it seems that Apple laptops always interfere with my wifi connection.

My brothers Mac does it when we both visit home and my girlfriends roommates mac always kicks both of our laptops off the wifi. After a few minutes it will let us connect back up but then dies out again after a few minutes.

I assume it has to do with the laptops because neither my brother or the roommate seem to have the problem and it only happens when they are online.

Anyone Know whats up?

Thanks All!

Answer:Apple Laptops seem to force my Windows Laptops Offline...

Any Help Anyone?
