Password Manager in Google Chrom

Question: Password Manager in Google Chrom

Hello,
Chrome browser stores my passwords in the "Password manager". However, some sites ask me annually or half-annually to change the password. But it is not replaced in the "Password Manager", it keeps the old password, and when I try to open that site, the old password is embedded, have to change it manually. Chrome does not open a pop-up window asking if to save the password, as it has one saved.
In the "Password Manager" cannot do any editing.
Answers will be appreciated.
Thanks

Preferred Solution: Password Manager in Google Chrom

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

"Google has stopped allowing  NPAPI plugins on September 1, 2015." A previous post with the above title (less the "v.2" post script) was marked as Answered which I believe is incorrect. I have duplicated the question title here and appended "version.2" so that both will be found when a search is made, and so that the problem that was unearthed in the original question is placed plainly in view at the beginning. The cause of the problem was "explained", but to me not "Answered". An answer is either a) a "fix" or b) perhaps a firm statement from HP that this feature will not be integrated with Chrome. So I will only mark this copy of the question as Answered if (a) or (b) occurs. It is gross negligence in my view that HP can make plug-ins available which cause so much trouble. If these plug-ins are installed then Chrome complains continuously. HP needs to remove these drivers from the download area.

So I have the HP Client Security Manager downloaded on my computer and everything works fine.  I've downloaded the HP Client Security Manager extension for Chrome, but I can't enable it under chrome://plugins because it doesn't even show up there.  I've enabled it under Chrome extensions, but I can't find a way to enable it as a plugin, so it won't work at all.  I just downloaded Windows 10 yesterday, so I'm guessing there's either issues with that, or just with Chrome. Anyone have a solution? Thanks!

To everyone who has been curious about HP's response to me: Please find the document here from Google chrome support https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/6213033?hl=en Google has stopped allowing  NPAPI plugins on September 1, 2015. HP is aware of this issue and the development  teams is working on some solutions for this issue . Thank you for contacting HP. A HP representative also contacted me via phone and told me to expect a solution around July 2016. I hope this has enlightened the HP community.

Hi goldE

Here are two options for you to have a look at.

The first one adds a button to your browser toolbar and allows you to translate entire webpages into a language of your choice with one click.

This is made in Windows 10.
I just tried to create a shortuct to the desktop for Google Chrome and make it Incognito but trying this has put a non-working shortuct onto the desktop, and there is now also a working shortuct to the incognito mode of google Chrome.  I want to delete the non-working shortcut, but I cannot delete it.  Windows will not let me delete it.  Trying to do anything with it, "could not find this item".

How do I get a working normal mode shortcut and also a working incognito mode shortcut, and to also DELETE the current nonworking normal mode shortcut?

Answer:want to adjust and delete nonworking shortuct to Google Chrom

After a search on the internet, I tried this:
Right Clicked the desktop and chose Refresh.  Dragged the nonworking shortcut to Google Chrome to the recycle bin, and recycle bin accepted the shortcut item.

I had already removed the "incognito" from the remaining shortcut of the desktop to Chrome, making this one a normal mode Chrome shortcut. and this shortcut still works.

I still wish I understood this better and am interested in any explanations that members can give.  Also, I would like to still be able to have shortcuts on the desktop both for Google Chrome normal mode AND Google Chrome Incognito mode.

maps.google.com Satellite images do not display in Firefox 3.5.6, Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.5512, and Chrome 3.0.195.38! They work on another pc, and did on this one earlier today. All that is displayed now are multiple "We are sorry, but we don't have imagery at this zoom level for this region." This is displayed at all zoom levels. The Map and Terrain image fields display correctly.

In Firefox, Tools | Page Info | Media, I can see the overlay? images 256 px x 256 px of city and state names, but not the usual satellite features.
When Satellite is first clicked, there is a momentary display of city and state names, which is then covered with the zoom level message.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox 3.5.6, and Java 6 update 17. I have rebooted. Google image search is fine. I can readily display *.png and *.jpg files outside the browsers. Operating System XP SP3, all current upgrades installed. Disabling Zone Alarm makes no difference.

Since the same misbehavior is present in three different browsers I suspect the fault is in XP at some fundamental level. What display components are shared that could have been corrupted?

When the failure occurred I had an earlier version of Firefoz (3.0.4?), and the NoScript add-on. After the failure occurred, I uninstalled the add-on, and installed the most recent software in the hope that it would fix the problem. I also uninstalled 5 earlier versions of Java. Subsequently I discovered the same fault in the other... Read more

I believe you must delete the saved password and then chrome should ask to save the new password the next time you log in.

Or set chrome to never save passwords and use a better password manager like LastPass.

From: http://lifehacker.com/googles-new-smart-lock-is-the-password-manager-for-the-1710352668

Amidst all the big Google I/O news, the company quietly made a major overhaul to Chrome?s password manager. It?s now a part of the revamped Smart Lock service, and if you still haven?t started using a secure app to store your passwords, this one?s for you.

What?s Actually New?
Google?or, more specifically, Chrome?has had a makeshift password manager for a while now. You?ve probably seen it before: any time you enter a password into a site, Chrome will ask if you want to save that password for later. It also used to be a pretty terrible way of storing passwords, until Google fixed that about a year ago. Nevertheless, this feature was little more than a slightly fancier version of saying ?Keep me logged in? on web sites.

Now, the whole system has been upgraded and rolled into Google?s Smart Lock feature. If that name sounds familiar, it?s probably because you?ve used it on your Android phone. Smart Lock originally allowed you to unlock your Android phone if you had it paired with a trusted Bluetooth device (like a smartwatch) or were in a trusted location (like your home).

In addition to rolling Chrome?s password manager into Smart Lock, the whole platform comes with a few new features:
You can manage your passwords from the web: If you visit passwords.google.com, you can see a list of all the passwords you?ve saved with Chrome. This is protected... Read more

The title says it all! Currently using Norton Identity Safe's standalone password manager, but would like to start using Lenovo's instead. Answer:W520 - Lenovo Password Manager - Can .CSV or .DAT files be imported from other Password Managers?

Hello,  No you can't import .CSV or .DAT files into Password Manager. It uses a .PWM file format, and uses a 256-bit key AdvancedEncryption Standard (AES) with Microsoft CryptoAPI. You can export your info to be used in another machine with the Thinkvantage Password Manager installed, but not from another password manager. More info here:Password Manager 4 Deployment Guide Cheers!

Which free offline password manager would you prefer (without cloud)?

I already use sticky password premium. Sticky password has improved its windows extensions with new graphical identifier for input fields. This has made it very easy to use and autofill works for all sites now.

But i want to know if KeePass is better, being a open-source & free. Does it's autofill works with every site?

Please share & help me decide.

Answer:BEST Offline Password Manager: KeePass Vs Sticky Password Free?

It looks like you want to use them for online form-filling. I would use neither of them, KeePass does not have good browser integration it relies on external add-ons and opens one port just for form filling. It is good for offline secure storage.Sticky Password free is good but does not offer anything extra other than the passwords(for my use).If you are using Sticky password it is good for onlline auto-logins.

Hello, I received a new laptop for Christmas and, while testing out the keys, clicked on what I now know is the 'lock' button above the numpad. It locked the operating system, as expected. I swiped my fingerprint, but when I do so, it goes to Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro and informs me that it must validate my password. I cannot change the username or location, but it has two fields: New password and a second one to confirm the previous. I tried my Lenovo password, my Windows 8 password, writing nothing in the boxes, and creating a new password with all the usual limitations - numbers, 8 characters, etc., etc.. They all return with the same 'Credential Error' that it cannot validate my password. Windows 8 will not log me in unless I complete the Fingerprint login. Restarting does not seem to work. What can I do to fix it? I'd rather not format my PC a couple weeks after I got it, you know?

Answer:T540: Fingerprint Password Manager not accepting new password.

*bump*  after an update- my fingerprint manager is now saying this error as well.  i can't change my password and the revealed password is incorrect.  anyway to reset this? . im afraid one day my fingerprint reader will not be able to read my fingerprint anymore and i will never be able to login ever again

I have a ThinkPad SL400 with Windows Vista.  I have installed and am using Lenovo Password Manager.  During the install it sets the master password to match your windows login password.  The tools work good but now when I change my Windows Login Password the Password Manager will not work.  If I bring it up and try to login with the new password it appears to accept and closes the login window, but it does not activate.  If I use the old password it give a login failed message. I had to go and change my windows password back to the old value to get it working again.  Now that my passwords are stored inside the software I need it to work, but I also need to change my Windows Password. What is the method to change the master password for Lenovo Password Manager or sync it automatically with my windows password? Thom

Cyber criminals have started targeting the password managers that protect an individual's most sensitive credentials by using a keylogger to steal the master password in certain cases, according to research from data-protection company IBM Trusteer.
The research found that a configuration file, which attackers use to tailor the Citadel trojan for specific campaigns, had been modified to start up a keylogger when the user opened either Password Safe or KeePass, two open-source password managers. While malware has previously targeted the credentials stored in the password managers included in popular Web browsers, third-party password managers have typically not been targeted.
While the current impact of the attack is low, the implications of the attacker’s focus is that password managers will soon come under more widespread assault, Dana Tamir, director of enterprise security for IBM Trusteer, told Ars Technica.
“Once the malware captures this master key, then they can use that master key to exercise complete control over the machine and any of the user’s online accounts,” she said.

First, I read the must-read sticky, but can't download the TSG Info utility because my problem is that I can't run my browsers, Firefox and Chrome. When I load them and try to go to a site, I get crash notifications, telling me to retry. (I'm posting this from my Win7 laptop.)

It's on my Dell Dimension 4700 desktop, running WinXP Pro, with AVG Free anti-virus, etc. I'm presently in the process of doing a full scan, but it's taking forever. If the scan shows threats, I'll have them removed. But what should my next step be? Just try again with Firefox and Chrome? Remove and replace those browsers with newer versions (IF I can get onto the net)? Different browser (also IF I can get onto the net)? Would a System Restore (to last Friday when everything was fine) avoid the malware that's causing the problem?

At this point I really can use and will appreciate some guidance. Thanks.

I bought the Spro4 last year after consiering various tablets. It allows me to run my photo apps natively without the limitations of a tablet OS. I can tether my cameras to it over USB so my clients can see proper pictures on an amazing screen.
One thing that bugs me I use Chrome as my browser of choice. It very often refuses to accept a touch from pen of finger, treating it as a right-click - showing the pop-up menu. If I minimise Chrome and bring it back, that sometimes fixes it, sometimes it takes a few goes, sometimes it requires closing Chrom and relaunching.
I have set the Chrome://flags Enable Touch Events to Enabled.
Any ideas?

I purchased an used T420 and think it is a great laptop.   I started experiencing sudden power downs/shut downs.  It started to become more frequent so I searched it online and found that there are a lot of discussions in different forums about this.  I have tracked when this happens and it only seems to happen when I am in Chrome using Flash Player.   There is no blue screen, no error message, the client just immediately shuts down.  This has me believing there is an issue with the graphics card.   Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there a known driver or hardware fix?   Thank you in advance!

I recently purchased a Acer Chromebook 15 to replace an old Windows laptop.  I had previously purchased a WD My Passport 2 TB external hard drive that i had pictures/music/videos saved to as a large flash drive with the Windows laptop.  When i attempted to use it with the new Chromebook, it would not recognize the drive (it showed up on the "Files" window, but it needed to be formatted.  I tried this after I backed everything up on the Windows laptop, but it would not format on the Chromebook.  After some digging, I read that WD external drives are miserable for Chromebooks due to their extra security.  Needless to say, the WD external drive is now useless.   Are there any brands of external drives that are compatible with a Chromebook specifically to be used as a flash drive?  I don't want to purchase another if it will not work with the new Chromebook.  Any suggestions for this use?  I am basically using it to back up music, pictures, and video from Google Music and Photos as an emergency cloud backup. Thanks for help/suggestions.

My computer was running slow so I went to my task manager and seen a whole bunch of Google Chrome processes running. I was confused at first because I don't even have Google Chrome installed. As I tried to stop the processes one at a time, more only popped up. Then I looked it up on the net, found others yall have helped on this site, and know there's something wrong. If possible, would like to know how and when the malware was installed as I have multiple students that use the pc and this is the first time ever had this happen, would like to know if it was a user doing something wrong by accident or on purpose (is even possible to know, but mainly would like to just get pc fixed!)

I right clicked and Disabled Antivirus AutoDetect (Norton); Downloaded zoek and have result log attached. Required a pc reboot and did that too. Problem is still happening. It also changed my home page to google.com (I changed it back). I also uploaded a picture of my task manager if that helps any.

Thanks!!!

Hi TwinHeadedEagle,
I have almost exactly the same problem running on my computer. I have run zoek, malwarebytes, and AdwCleaner and I still have the problem. Rather than create a new post in the forum I have just replied to this post since it seems so similar. I have now run Farbar and have attached the two logs. I also included a pic of my task manager showing the processes that keep loading. Can you help me? Thank you!

Question: Password Manager

I have a password that is apparently still being 'managed' by Windows and I need to delete or change it!
Where do I find it and How do I delete or change????

Answer:Password Manager

There are a few places where PW are stored. Since I'm not sure which one you are referring to, I will list them

1) For Windows Stored Application Passwords - Go To Your Control Panel, then Go into "Users". Choose a Username, then after you have selected a user, on the left side is a menu. Select "Manage My Network Passwords"

2) For Internet Explorer Passwords, Go to your Control Panel, then Select Internet Options. Then Select the Content Tab, then click on AutoComplete.

3) Or If it is a PW that is saved by a Cookie, delete your cookies. Go to your Control Panel, then Select Internet Options. General Tab, then click Delete Cookies.

Were one of those options what you needed?

I have been using Roboform for years and have always liked it. I have used it with FireFox and IE, but now am interested in using Opera or perhaps Chrome, but RF wont work in those and also I am finding other PW managers have a hard time importing data from RF.

So in a nutshell
1.I need one that will import my years of data from RF
2. Also one that will work in Chrome and especially Opera
3. preferably free although that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

Any ideas? I would really appreciate it.

Question: Password Manager

Hello folks I have so many passwords thinking of using a password manager was looking at keepass & others. What are your views on password managers & are they really safe? anybody got any suggestions.

Answer:Password Manager

I personally do not use any that integrate with my browser or store my passwords online as I think this is asking for trouble.
I use Password Manager XP and choose to not integrate into the browser. It is not free but I like it's user interface and it works well.
If you go with this one please note that even if you do not integrate it with IE, you still need to go in and disable an ad-on after installation that is used to ask you if want to store any new passwords in the password manager when using a password for the first time.

I have downloaded the Norton Password Manager which is offered free with Norton Internet Security 2005. I would like to know if anyone has used it & is reliable & secure.Thanks.

Answer:Password manager

I (personally) would never use a password manager that is incorporated with a front line defense program such as Firewall or A-V as this would be the first point of attack for a hacker (cracker). If they can break through your main defense system they can easily scan it for passwords and stuff.Be careful. This one comes highly recommended although I haven't tried it myself click here

Hello,

Have been having lots of problems with the eternal-september newsreader via Thunderbird.

It was suggested that I delete all my username and password in "Password Manager" and try setting up a new Account for eternal-september news.

Where do I find this "Password Manager" where Thunderbird likely stored them ?

I looked, but just cannot find any reference to it via Search.

Thanks,
Bob

Answer:Password Manager: Where ?

Try this:

Tools> Options> Security Tab> Passwords sub tab> Saved Passwords> Select an entry and click on remove (or there is a remove all button).

Make sure you click on Show Passwords (and yes to confirm) and make note of any passwords you might not remember. And make sure your eternal-september is even listed there. Click close, and OK your way out. A Guy

Hi
A bit of advice
I am looking for a Windows Password Manager. I would like it to have the facility to keep the encrypted data file in the My Documents\XXXX folder ie have a user selected location so that it will be transferable with all my other documents across several computers. I would also like it to act as the automatic source for passwords when logging in from a browser just as the current browser saved passwords do. Have looked at vseveralo options but these facilities don't seem to be specifically mentioned.

Answer:Looking for a Password Manager

Might help any respondent if you could give an idea of the 'several options' you've looked at. I've used Lastpass and found it very effective.

Question: Password Manager

I am thinking of using a password manager.

Two products seem to be recommended: Keepass or LastPass.

LastPass seems to be far easier to use, but I have difficulty in understanding why people trust a cloud based system with their sensitive information.

My question is Can I trust their cloud?

Thanks

Ps. I use websites that use passwords, I might use it for banking - only if absolutely convinced.

Answer:Password Manager

Hi,

Cloud-based services are usually more secure than your personal PC. So yes, storing information on a server somewhere is going to be more secure than storing that same information on your personal computer.

On that note, I personally would NOT store a banking password, either on my personal computer OR a cloud-based system. Just remember, though, that most browsers now even use cloud-based backup for passwords, etc. as well. So, if you save passwords in your browser, and have the cloud service enabled on that browser, you're already storing those passwords in a cloud environment.

So what I want to do is have a Password Manager program:

It is a downloadable program (preferably free) that you register an account to and whenever you login with your account and Password it will give you your Username and Password to whatever you fill in.

I currently have Keeper to do this on my iPhone but it is not backed up and I do not want to save them to a text file in Notepad due to Security and if I have to restore my iPhone I will forget a lot of important Passwords.

Can someone please suggest a Password Manager for me to secure my Passwords.

Thank you, Joe.

Question: Password Manager

OK- This is really driving me BONKERS! Something happened to my Password Manager. The passwords which used to come in automatically does not anymore! I have to put it in manually which my Password Manager used to control.

I'm using WINDOWS XP and my browser is Netscape 7.0(I also used Internet Explorer 6.0 to make sure it wasn't a browser problem and I got the same results).
In tools it shows that password manager is logged out. In the managed passwords section it shows all my passwords are still there. Out of 15 passwords 2 comes in automatically.

Someone has indicated to me that Password Manager is corrupted and has to be reloaded. Is that what I have to do? If so how do I do that? Also why is Password Manager shows I'm logged out? How can I log back in? I have tried every way possible to log back in but it doesn't give me that option. In preferences Managed Stored Passwords is checked so I know that is correct.

Any help would be appreciated!

Dave
