What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Question: What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Nowhere in the documentation, web site is any info about what kind of controller and hence what size SD cards this model is supporting.Even Lenovo tech support doesn't know that info!I am really hesitant to buy a SDXC card of +32GB only to find out it supports on SDHC cards, thus limited to 32GB... thanks for any useful info, Ralf

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: What kind of SD card controller is in a Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-11AIP? SDHC or SDXC compatible?

Hi ITWorxLA,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per system overview :
IO port: Memory card slot (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC)

Platform specification:
One microSD Card slot, supports up to 2TB

Usually there would be stickers on the box or laptop to indicate the format it also supports.
You can try to find/borrow a spare 32GB SDXC to test first before purchase.

Hope this helps answer your query.

I have a Satellite A500-1GH having Windows 7 64bit. I'm about to buy an SD card, and I was wondering if the SD card slot at the front of the laptop is compatible with SDHC cards and the latest SDXC cards. If so, do I need to download some software and/or drivers for these kind of SD cards to work?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A500-1GH - Is SD slot compatible with SDHC and SDXC?

Hi,

SDHC is definitely compatible.

As for SDXC, I think there is a Win7 WindowsUpdate that supports SDXC.

The X220multimedia card reader in the x220 works on the PCI bus and can read SDXC cards. I have seen comments here that it reads the UHS-1 cards. Can it make full use of the read/write speeds of the latest cards, such as the SanDisk Extreme Pro? Also, does it matter whether NTSF or exFAT is used when the card is used as a backup device, not intended for use in a camera? What are the advantages/disadvantages of using SDHC/SDXC cards for backup?

Does the R600 support the sandisk "extreme 30 MB" or the SDXC card?

I ask because they seem to the only ones with 64Gb capacity. I need the maximum additional capacity possible

TIA/gary

Answer:SDHC extreme or SDXC card work in Portege R600

Hi

As far as I know the SD card reader supports the SD card up to 2GB, SDHC up to 16Gb and mini SD card (with adapter) up to 2GB.

I didn?t find any details about the usage of bigger SDHC cards and I think you will have to test it yourself?. But in my opinion there could be a problem using such cards!

I have a Lenovo IdeaCentre, purchased only four weeks ago.  It product family is IdeaCentre k410, machine type 10089.  Anyhow, the problem is: I inserted a microSD / microSDHC, both of which seem to fit into the slot fine, though neither registers under anywhere in windows explorer, neither in the root of C://, nor in any of the subdirectories, or on the main listing of mounted file systems.  I used the Lenovo Driver Updater and re-installed the SD Card Reader driver, to no avail.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.  As well, the computer runs Windows 8, which has some features I'm unhappy with, and although this is not a windows forum and I don't mean to create a thread that deviates from lenovo-specific topics, I was wondering if there is anything in either the machine architecture or the software of Windows 8 that could hinder m in installing a dual-boot system so that I might have the option of running a variant of linux as a sub-operating system, as I did with windows XP.?????  OK any help at all would be so greatly appreciated, thank in advance.  I really want to be able to retrieve some writing files I have stored in that micro SDHC card.  As another aside, does anyone know the max limit of RAM this computer can take and if it is DDR or some other type?

Answer:SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC/MS/MS Pro card-reader slot not showing up in windows explorer.

hi BrokenHalo,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Regarding your questions:
1. When you inserted the SD card, do you hear a sound that a device is inserted and under Device Manger, do you see a Card Reader?

If not, try to:
a. boot intto the BIOS by pressing F1, load defaults by pressing F9 then press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
b. Reseat the front panel connectors (see page 23 of the hardware maintenance manual)

2. To install linux (i.e. Ubuntu), see if you can install Ubuntu via UEFI. If you're unable to do so or if you want to install other OS, try to:
a. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 and set the following settings below

UEFI Boot Mode = Legacy
Secure Boot = Disabled  (if applicable)
CSM = Disabled /  Legacy or Other OS (if applicable)
OS Optimized Default = Disabled or Legacy (if applicable)

b. When finished, press F10 to save and exit BIOS then try to install Ubuntu via Wubi or insert your Windows installation disc to install a different OS.

3. As per this pdf data sheet, the Lenovo K410 has a max RAM of 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3  but Crucial reports that this unit can take up to 16GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3 - check this site.

Hope this helps

I see that the new high speed SDXC & SDHC cards that are using UHS-1 will be in exFAT format.
Will my Win7Pro32 using NTFS format recognize these?
Are there new drivers I need to download for my card reader to see these?
I have nor purchased one of these new cards yet for my new HD camcorder, so would like to know before I do the big spend on one of these high speed cards.

Hi and welcome to SF!
Yes, Windows 7 recognizes these formats natively, but I recommend that it be with the SP1 installed. As to whether your card reader will be able to read them, I'd say no - taking into account the age of your Dell. But if you can tell the model of card reader, I could tell with more certainty. Use Speccy - Download in case of not knowing what type of card reader. I look forward for your reply.

Yes but be aware that this is only class 4 so some lagging will/can happen.
Furthermore its already an old card which had a 5 years warranty when sold.
But yes if you have it you can use it and judge by yourself if the lagging is acceptable for you.

hi mynorkin,

If you have the Lenovo G480 (type 2184 or 2688) as listed in this pdf data sheet, this doesn't support SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) as the card reader installed on these system is only a 2-in-1 reader which only supports MMC and Secure Digital Card,

As an alternative, you can get a USB Card Reader.

Edit: Added sample usb card reader.

I got an 8gb micro sdHC card filled up using the adapter, with music, which plays fine.

Before I received this cheap us>microSD adapter I asked the seller if it read HC cards. They said no. It's just a cheap chinese adapter on ebay so there isn't much info on it at all. It's write up didn't say anything about HC capabilities.

Like I mentioned, I was able to use it to load up an 8gb sdHC card.

Does this mean that it will probably also work with a 32gb sdHC card? Is there a size limit that the 8gb card didn't exceed?

If yes, I'd like to buy more now because I don't think these will hold up to much use.

Thanks

Answer:Can My Usb>microsd Adapter Read Sdhc If It Fills An 8gb Sdhc Card? Seller Says It Won't.

I found the same item elsewhere on ebay which mentions that it recognizes up to 32gb, which is what I needed.

So....I suppose there are quite a few adapters out there labelled only SD but will in fact read up to at least 32 SDHC cards.

I think going over 32gb cards might require additional capabilities.

Any downsides to doing so?  Lastly, will I, someone who knows the basics about computers and the internal components of a computer, be able to install the SSD myself? Hello dear Community! I've got a Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 notebook, purchased 4 years ago.Not so long ago the HDD just went wrong again so now I'd like to put an SSD in it instead of a new HDD.Here's my first found: SSD Kingston 240 GB SSD, V300, 7mm (other specs: 2,5 inch, SATA3 interface). So, my question #1 is whether this SSD will be okay for my machine or not?If not could You just suggest me another ones that are compatible with it for sure (around the same capacity)? Another but not so important question #2: is it possible that changing the drive manually (no guarantee anymore) will cause the original (with-purchased) Win7 OS not working? Thank You very much for Your response in advance! Best regards,Zsolt Lszl

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 - compatible SSDs

hi Zsolt,

Welcome to the Forums.

I haven't seen anyone used the Kingston 240 GB SSD on the Z570 but it should work as it's a 2.5" drive (ensure that you can return the item though just in case the BIOS doesn't detect it).

Alternatively, you can opt to get another brand like the Samsung Evo as other users have tested it on this unit.

Video:
Samsung SSD on the Z570

As for the OS, Windows should automatically activate itself once you re-install Windows (e.g., From a backup, a recovery disc, or fresh install) but in case it doesn't activate, you will need to activate it by phone.

Yesterday afternoon I purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Z575 for $499.00 from this link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246328

Obviously, it hasn't come in the mail yet. I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in the laptop. It comes with 6gb of RAM, a 4gb stick and a 2gb stick. The problem is, I don't really know what kind of RAM is in the computer. I'm looking to replace the 2gb stick with a second 4gb stick.

The type of RAM the laptop uses is pc3-10600 1333mhz ddr3, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin so-dimm socket RAM.

My question is whether or not this RAM is compatible with the laptop: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-Extreme-MV-3T4G3-US/dp/B00591ZYX8

Also, if there is a better option for RAM for this laptop, I'd like to know.

Answer:Solved: Is this RAM compatible with my Lenovo IdeaPad Z575?

Honestly, I think I may have mental problems. It looks like I answered my own question in this post. That RAM is compatible with my laptop. So I guess I'd just like to know if this RAM is the best option for this particular laptop.

Answer:Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 (20287) - Compatible mSATA SSDs?

hi Charlotte,

Regarding your questions:
1. Looking at the specs sheet, the Ideapad Z510 does have a mini PCie card slot to fit an mSATA SSD but it doesn't indicate that it supports mSATA data signaling (and this slot is occupied by the wireless adapter).
  - Link to picture (page 27 of the HMM)
  - Z510 Specs

2. Not compatible. If you're leaning towards an SSD upgrade, you could consider getting a regular 2.5" SATA SSD and replace the HDD with the SSD and install Windows 7 on it. Check this thread as other users have sucessfully installed Win7 on their Z510.

3. Natively, these are some of the systems that supports mSATA:
   - IdeaPad Y400 / Y500
   - IdeaPad Yoga 13
   - IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro
   - IdeaPad U310 / U410 / U510
   - IdeaPad Y580

Hi All, I am writing from National Instruments Technical Support with an issue that one of our customer's is having. The customer uses Lenovo IdeaPad Y530 (model name: 20009) and was trying to use MXI-4 remote controller of PXI chassis. It is basically a PCI extension with CompactPCI form factor. Unfortunatelly the extension of PCI bus did not work, any device installed in the PXI chassis received code 12 (unable to allocate resources) in Device Manager. We know about this issue on some laptops, they just simply don't allow hooking up PCI bus on ExpressCard (correct me if I'm wrong) - see our knowledgebase. We provide a potential solution, which is MXI-Express Compatibility Software. This solution can fix some BIOS limitations, but not all of them. Unfortunatelly in case of the customer it did not help. The customer purchased IBM Leonovo Y530 just for the purpose of using it with MXI-Express Controller. National Instruments cannot resolve this issue. Is there any BIOS version or extension that could allow Windows to allocate devices on the extended PCI bus?

I've T420s, Ricoh PICe SDXC/MMC Host Controller, and several SD cards. Right away I can say that the cards (Kingston, Samsung, Transcend) are all right, tried them on different computer and phone, they work well, so I assume this is not a card issue. I never used Card reader extensively, so I can't say if it started lately or was always like that, my T420s is about 1 year old and I'm running Windows 7 32bit. Here is the problem. Device seems to be switching on and off all the time when the card is inserted or taken out. I can say this as I'm keeping device manager window open. It seems like the connection between card reader and motherboard (?) is very bad, as I have to press on the device to pop out and press it back in to appear in the list of devices. When I plug in the card, it might actually show up, but then, when I pop out the card and pop it back it, it won't show again. So I have to take out the device itself again to have a chance of accessing my card. I've tried updating the driver from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014960 But it  didn't help. I've seen this: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/SD-Card-reader-not-working-Code-22-ThinkPad... But even if the device appears under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, there is no "Ricoh SD Disk Device" under "Disk Drives" most of the times when I insert cards. Anyone had similar issues?

Answer:Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller is working porrly with cards, T420s

Hi, answer42

I would make sure that the BIOS is up to date. If the BIOS is not up to date, the motherboard may not be fully recognizing when a card is present in the port. The latest BIOS for your machine is 1.35, and you can find that here. So definitely make sure the BIOS is up to date and see if that helps the issue.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Dear All,

A brandnew VERBATIM 8GB Micro SDHC Card is only recognized as 1GB in my T130 / WIN 7 - funny enough: A brandnew SANDISC 8G SDHC Card is recognized as 8GB
Anything I can do here to use the VERBATIM Card ?

Answer:Re: 8GB Verbatim Micro SDHC card recognized as 1GB Micro SDHC Card

Where did you buy that 8GB SD Card? Are you sure it's genuine?

If you got it from eBay or similar, it may be a fake SD Card that is physically 1GB but reformatted and re-badged as 8GB.

Yes it does as long as it is a micro SD.
Actual cards from 4 to 32GB are called SDHC.
Even a SDXC works. (larger then 32G) works without a problem.

I have a Twist S230u and just purchased a Transcend 64GB micro SDXC card (UHS-1 rated), which comes with an adapter to the SD interface that is compatible with the Twist's media card reader. Up to now, I have not tried to use any card larger than 32GB in the media card reader, and have never had a problem, whether using true SD cards or micro SD via adapters. But with the new card, I seem to be able to access only the first 32GB of memory. Once that limit is reached, files put on the card seem to go down the memory hole in a very strange way: As long as the card is active in the machine, files continue to transfer over to the card with no error indications.  But if you try to read them, they seem to open as empty (perhaps as filled with zeroes?). The file properties show correct information, and there is no data access error in trying to open one of of these files, but application programs complain of corrupted (wrong format) data. Now, if you eject the card and put it back in, the system complains of problems and asks if you want to scan and repair. Electing to do so yields the baffling response that the card was scanned and no errors were found! On top of this, the system still complains of card errors and asks if you want to scan and repair. This cycle will continue indefinitely.  But if you elect to skip the scan and use the card anyway, the directory seems readable, all the files seem accessible -- EXCEPT that files put on the card past 32GB have disa... Answer:Only 32GB accessible on micro SDXC card via Twist media card reader

More information: It appears that the file system on the card looks OK to DSKCHK, but the dirty bit is set. Trying to reset it with fsutil, I am told that the computer cannot write to the card. I have tried to do this two separate ways: 1) by having the card (in its SD adapter) in the Twist's built-in card reader, and 2) by putting the card (in its adapter) into a USB SDHC card reader. The card can be read perfectly in both situations, but can neither be written to (including dirty bit reset) nor formatted. Command-line tools show the filesystem as extFAT, so it seems as if Windows 8 understands the card format. I alerted Transcend tech support to this and they simply replied that the card in question was 64GB (which I told them!), and I needed to be sure that my computer hardware could give me full access to the entire 64GB range. Can anyone point me to a spec for the S230u that says definitively what the upper limit on card capacity is through the built-in media card slot?

Hi, I have read on the forum that people are using the SDXC cards with their Yoga 13's.I have purchased a Sandisk 64Gb SDXC ExtremePro card but when I put it into the Card Reader a blue screen comes up saying " Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart." It also gives and error with this message saying: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (TosExt.Sys). It cannot restart again until I remove the card, the same thing happens in SAFE MODE also or if I try to start the computer with the card inserted already. The card is brand new and I bought it in a reputable shop. I have tested the card in a Lenovo ThinkPad X230 and it works fine. I have also tried to insert a different standard SD card into the Yoga but the same thing happens. I have reinstalled the driver for the reader but the problem still remains. The OS is Windows 8 64 bit. The card is in ex FAT format and I re-formatted it again just to be safe but still no luck. I was not able to find anything regarding this online but saw that some people here have similar problems.I would really appreciate if someone could help or at least let me know if there is a way of contacting Lenovo about this problem, I see that they will only accept emails regarding the ThinkPad product line.Thank you in advance and best regards to all!

Greetings all, I recently purchased a new camera with is compatable with both SD and SDHC cards.  Since the HC have the higher capacity and can be larger cards I was interested in purchasing one.   My concern was whether or not my SD port would be able to take an SDHC card.  Everything I have read online says that SD and SDHC are very similar but you have to check with each individual product to make sure they are compatable.  I have been scouring both the site and the owner manual to see if there is there is some answer as to whether or not my computer will be able to use SDHC cards.   I have an Ideapad Y530 and my card port, according to the manual is compatable with MMC, MS, MS pro, SD, SD pro, and xD cards.  It doesn't say specifically one way or the other and I would really like some resolution.  Thanks all,  Sid

I purchased a full-size SDHC card instead of a micro SDHC card.  Since I will have to get around to upgrading to Win8.1/10, can I use this card the same as any USB flash drive and create a bootable Windows disk? My boot prefernces include "USB CD" and "USB FDD".  I'm assuming that a regular USB flash drive would boot using the "USB FDD" option since there is no "USB Flash" in the boot menu, so any removeable USB medium should work. Is this correct?

My question is, will 80E501JFUS work properly on an older Wi-Fi network that is based on the older 11b/g/n Wi-Fi network protocols such as one might find in a public library, ie, is the 80E501JFUS with its state-of-the-art 11ac Wi-Fi networking capability automatically & transparently backwards compatible with older 11b/g/n-based Wi-Fi networks?

Answer:Is Lenovo AC Wireless Network Card backwards compatible?

hi chas_alpha

Welcome to the Forums.

Looking at the G50-80 (80E501JFUS) spare parts, this system uses a Broadcom 43162 Wireless Card.
  - Link to picture

This type of card is indeed backwards compatible with 802.11/b/g/n wireless networking specifications (such as the WI-Fi access points in public library).

As for making it to work on  802.11/b/g/n, you may need to look under the Device Manager > Wrieless card properties > Advanced Tab and toggle the band preference and the wireless mode.

I bought 2 64Gb SDXC cards back in September and my PC running Windows 10 PRO recognised these cards and I was able to write to them. I bought another one a few days ago, but the PC will not recognise the card and when I tried the 2 cards I already had again, it wouldn't recognise them either. The PC will read an 8Gb Kingston 133X card and lots of other small cards without problems. My laptop will read these SDXC cards without problems. It is running Windows 10 Home, which is also Version 1709, build 16299.98 & both laptop & PC are running what appears to be the same driver - a generic Microsoft driver dated 21/9/2006 version 10.0.16299.15 Also my digital camera and my Panasonic video camera will recognise the cards. I've tried updating the PC driver, but Windows insists that the driver installed is the best available. The PC has just done a big Windows update but that hasn't cured the problem. I'm baffled - has anybody got any suggestions?I don't really want to roll back to any old version of Windows, especially as I've no idea when the problem started. The card reader is built in to the PC and came bundled with the machine (about 7 years old) and appears to be some generic make as there is no manufacturer's name visible. I've ordered a plug-in card reader to see if that will work, but I'm not hopeful.

My 128GB SDXC card is so slow. It is formatted with exFAT. It took almost 5 mins to copy a 4MB file on Windows 10 machine. Any suggestions ?
Thanks!

Answer:My SDXC card is so slow...

If you have used the card in anyway on a Unix box before, that will be the reason. Have you by chance?

Hi there, Seeing that there is not specific category for M series, I'm going to post here. I would like to know if this wifi wireless card is compatible with the Lenovo Essential M5400 laptop:http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/wireless-n-7260-bluetooth.html And if it isn't, can someone point out a list of compatible cards? Thanks I have found the list: http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/m5400_fru_list.pdf The list is found, but it seems like my laptop has a Realtek (RTL8723BE) installed and this list shows that only Broadcom is compatible... i'm really confused. I would like for a MOD to move the topic to the Essential section of the forum. I'm sorry for misposting.

Hello everyone. Question: Does Twist support 128 GB SDXC cards? Explanation: I've purchased the 128 GB SDXC card (Class 10 UHS-1) produced by OltraMax. It was the cheapest one and work perfectly everywhere except my notebook =) It's very sad, you will definitely agree with me because the is only 128GB SSD drive installed in my Twist and it's starting to annoy.I've checked the version of drivers of Realtek PCIE cardreader and they are the last. (6.2.8400.29034)Here is photo of the product, it doesn't explain anything, but could get a view. Thanks for answers

Answer:Lenovo Twist S230u - does it handle 128GB SDXC cards?

Hello,

I did some testing of various SDXC cards in a ThinkPad S230u and did not observe any problems.  You can read about it in the following message thread:  ThinkPad Twist s230u 4 in 1 card reader UHS-1 support

Perhaps this will be of use in answering your question.

Hi

I've an Toshiba Tecra M9 with Windows 7 Enterprise (64bit) on it.
Can someone tell me if SDXC cards will work on the SD Slot which is built in?

Thanks

Answer:SDXC card support on Tecra M9

I believe you are the first one with this question.
Let?s see if anyone here already has such cards.

I don't even found the price for such cards.

I am pretty sure Toshiba didn't test card reader with this cards but only with cards mentioned in ?User?s manuals? document so if this will works it will be nice, if not ? bad luck.

Lenovo T510 4313-CTO Recently reinstalled Windows. SD card reader works, but now recognises my 64GB SD card as 32GB (27GB). I have reformatted the card (using another device) as exFAT, FAT32, and NTFS. None of them show correctly. Sometimes when I insert the SD card, Windows instantly says the card needs formatting, but only allows 27.8GB to be formatted. I have reinstalled Windows before, but have always used the official Lenovo recovery discs. This time I used an official Windows 7 Ultamite disc. Once installed I downloaded all the drivers from the Lenovo web site. Everything works perfectly but the SD reader. I am 100% positive the SD card reader at one time recognized my 64GB card. I used it for over a year to transfer files directly onto the 64GB SD card.

The Acer S7-392 specifications state only "SD", but not whether the SDHC and/or SDXC card types can be read. A quick search of the web shows multiple contradictory web pages! Some saying "yes", some saying "no". So, hopefully an actual Acer representative or an actual S7-392 owner can answer: Can the in-built SD slot read the newer SDXC format (which according to Wikipedia will be formatted with the exFAT file system)? Thanks!Alain

Hey there, can I replace my ideapad's graphics card? It only got Geforce 920MX and I want to change it to a better one. and also, I've experienced a bluescreen of death on this laptop. I only had this for around 4 months, the error below has nvlddmkm.sys something. Can I get a fix for this one? I'm currently trying the solution microsoft gave to a user, it's by removing the driver and reinstalling a new one from nvidia. Are there any other solutions?
