I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:My lenovo s510p laptop doesn't shut down completely

Hi Has1988,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Can you describe how it would not shutdown completely?

Go to Control panel and choose Power options.
Under System Settings, click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
Ensure Power button settings are set to shutdown.
Look at the Shutdown settings and uncheck the box for Turn on fast start up.
Save changes and shutdown.

Another option is to go to Device Manager.
Under system devices right click on Intel Management Interface and choose properties.
Choose the Power Managent tab and uncheck "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hi, sometimes, when I shut down my laptop, it never finishes. The screen turns off after showing "shutting down", but my back-lit keyboard and the leds never turn off. It happens like 10% of the times.

What can it be?

Answer:Sometimes, my laptop doesn't shut down completely

I've been told Laptops can get confused if never shut down all the way. For example if you hold down the shift key when clicking shutdown from the power options. If I think I'm going to leave it for the night then I'll do that. The next boot up just takes a little longer. I don't know if it will fix your symptom. But it may be worth a try.

Answer:Lenovo s510p Windows 8 x64 bit doesn't boot. It shoes blue screen of death

Hi Joshua_22,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue  BSOD in your Lenovo S510p laptop.

Check if the HDD is detected in BIOS and also check if the boot priority is HDD.

Since you are unable to boot the computer and it is in a restart loop, you may have to create a bootable Windows 8 installation media and then perform an Automatic Repair. Or if you have the OS cd or DVD you can repair through the cd.

You can also try to restore the system to last known good configuration and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!

Best regards,

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

The system runs perfectly fine until I want to shut it down, in which case everything is super-duper, but when it gets to the final stage of shutting down, when all you see if the blue screen with "Shutting Down..." and the spinning circle, it just stays there until you manually shut it down...

Ideas?

Also, this may be related to my last problem that was recently fixed, reference: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f217/bsod-just-about-any-time-win-7-64-bit-448424.html#post2524881

Shutting down through the start menu both my laptops (HP brand) seem to shut down but on one the LED in the wireless connection button goes amber but doesn't shut off. On the other the LED in the power button doesn't go off. If I push and hold the power button on both it will completely shut down. Any ideas?

Answer:Anyone know why Windows 10 doesn't completely shut down my PC all the time?

It could be the power options on settings, did you check that out?

So I have been testing Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1 for a week now to see if Vista is ready for primetime. I almost ironed out all bugs that was holding me back from switching from winxp.
All except one.

I can't make Vista shut down completely. It seems to turn off, but all fans keep spinning. No matter how long I wait.

I'm not a novice computer user so please don't tell me I might have mistaken sleep, hibernate with SHUT DOWN

Hope some of you experts can help me.

Thanx in advance

Are you clicking the yellow button on the start menu? If you are then that's the sleep button. I know you said you're not mixing sleep with shutdown up, but I made the same mistake the first time I was using Vista.

Answer:Anyone know why Windows 10 doesn't completely shut down my PC all the time?

From what I can understand about the situation, HP has not yet released drivers for this laptop that are fully compatible with Windows 10. More than likely, this is the culprit. There are numerous complaints about the laptop not properly entering sleep mode among other issues with shutting down, so your complaint doesn't really come as a surprise.
I wish I could be of more help, but this seems to be something that HP will have to resolve, if they are even willing to resolve it.
If you're still having problems, please register for an account here on the forums and return to this thread. Let us know what you've tried to fix the issue, what type of device you have, etc. and we'll try to help you get your problem sorted out.

Hey this is my first post on any sort of forum so please bear with me. I bought my laptop towards the end of August, and I swapped the hard drive out with a Samsung Evo 500gb SSD (if that makes any difference).Recently, I've been noticing that the battery drains about 35% a day when completely shut down. I've checked all of my power plans/settings/options. Nothing seems to turn it on (automatic windows updates and maintenance are off). It's not exactly a problem for me because I usually plug it in anyways when I use it, but it just seems odd that the battery would drain so much in a day. Any help would be great thanks!

Answer:Lenovo Y50-70 Battery Drainage When Completely Shut Dwn

Hi Ben, First off good choice on the SSD and yes I'm sure that makes a huge difference for you in speed, but it "should" not have any effect on the battery drainage when you shut down the computer. When you say shut down, i'm guessing that you mean a full power off, and not meaning that you put it into sleep mode. There should be a small difference in the power % when you turn your computer back on. Your computer uses a large amount/ burst of power when starting up, but this isn't usally a noticable change to the common user. Attempting to reset the memory of the battery may fix this issue for you.  My Y50-70 Touch doesn't maintain its battery life for more than 2 hours unplugged, while only writing a paper, or surfing the web.

Ok so when I had XP I would always use hibernate and only about once a week I would actually reboot the computer completely. Now that I have Windows 7 I would like to do the same. But now when I click hibernate the screen goes black and everything shuts off but the computer acts like its in standby. The lights are still on and computer is running. Once this happens I cannot get back into windows or reboot without holding down the power button to force a reset. Each time that I have done with Windows 7 boots an error saying the computer was not shutdown correctly. Anyone know why it won't completely power off when I click hibernate. I have tried it about 5 separate times and it has not worked once. Thanks. Jon.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have a Lenovo 3000 G530-25. I'm running on XP Pro. I just noticed that my computer is not shutting completely. When I hit the start menu >Turn off computer> Turn off = the computer goes to the shut down process but the LED lights on the left side never turns off! The power light keeps blinking, the battery light stays solid. I've tried everything from pulling the battery, replacing with a new battery, removing the power cord and running with battery only and vise versa. Still no luck! Battery is at 90+% charged... Oh, by the way, i just wanted to add that when I close the monitor and try to open it, the computer starts on its own without me hitting the power button. So, it souds like the computer is going on a sleep mode only and not shutting down completely. I need help pls... i dont know if its only the settings issue or computer issue.  Thank you in advance.

Hi,
Hope you guys can help.
When I go to Start -> Power -> Shut down, it displays the "Shutting down..." window, then the screen goes black, but the laptop won't shut down completely. That is, the WiFi, Bluetooth and Power (light bulb) indicators are still on (and the battery indicator too if plugged), and I have to force (power button long press) the laptop to shut down. I can also shutdown the WiFi and Bluetooth devices using the keyboard at this stage (with FN button). And if I keep the laptop this way long enough (unplugged), my battery will be completely drained.
I recently disabled Hibernation (cmd admin -> powercfg/h off) so I suspected it to be the culprit. So I enabled hibernation again (cmd admin -> powercfg/h off) and my laptop was shutting down as it should. I then disabled hibernation again and the problem came back. I also figured it might be something to do with my power plan so I reset it (Power options -> Change plan settings -> Restore default settings for this plan), but it didn't help.
I would like to disable hibernation and be able to shut down properly. Any ideas?
Thanks!
David

can someone help me out here.my OS is vista.

Answer:Laptop doesn't shut down

Have you tried clicking the power button? If that shuts down your computer then it's Vista and not your hardware. Open task manager and end processes that have your name by them except for explorer and task manager. After each one try shutting down your computer and see if it works. It's likely that one of them is preventing it from shutting down.

It started not shutting down last night.. What I have to do was to hibernate it. What most probably is the problem?Do I need some reformat thing?thanks.

Answer:my Compaq laptop doesn't shut down:(

Do a forced shut down. To do this you just press and hold down the power button until it shuts down, wait a minute and restart. This should reset everything and you should be fine. An alternate method to do a forced shut down would be to remove the battery. Obviously you do not want to do either of these things often, look for the cause if it happens again. You may be using hibernate or sleep for periods that are longer than they are intended for on laptops. Sleep should be used for periods of a reasonable number of minutes, like getting a snack, answering the phone, or moving between rooms or classes. Hibernate should be used for periods of up to a few hours and not for overnight or long day time periods including full recharging, use shut down for these. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I'm writing about my friend's computer so I don't have all the info at my fingertips. It's about two years old. I know she has Windows 7 on it. She has been having trouble for a long time with the darned thing not wanting to shut down. I'm going to quote her description to me in an email and hope that someone has some ideas. I'm trying to help her out because she is not comfortable with going into forums and doing this.

"It turns off some times right away. But then a few times it sits and waits to shut off. If I close the lid it only shuts down the screen but the computer is still running. Then later it turns back on as I hear the start up tone. Then I can click off again and it shuts down. If I don't turn it off then it shuts down after it use all the power."

Answer:HP laptop running Win 7 doesn't want to shut down

Hi Nikilet,

Follow the suggestion as i mentioned below and let me know how that goes.

Click ?Start?, on ?Computer? click right mouse button and select ?Properties?, click ?Device Manager?

Find the item labeled ?IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers? and expand this group.
This group only contains one device: ?VIA 1394 OHCI Compilant Host Controller?
Right click this item and select ?Properties?, select ?Power Management? tab, and finally check the ?Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power?.
After that the computer should power down normally.

IF you can't find the VIA 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller in Device Manager (like me), do the following step- Reboot and go into the BIOS. The IEEE 1394 Controller is Enabled in there. Disable it, save BIOS settings and reboot it. Now the VIA 1394 Controller shows up in the Device Manager!!

Thanks....

Hello, so i have a Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (P57g001), i bought it back in April and in the last few weeks it started to freeze whenever i try to shut it down or put it to sleep or hibernate. It is clear that the OS (win 10) is closing all the programs but when it turns the screen off it hangs until it is drained completely of battery, I have to press down the power button so it shuts down and then turn it on again in the case I put it to sleep or hibernate.

My windows is fully updated, every driver is updated.

I already unchecked "Turn on fast start-up" because i read on the internet that it could help, but it didn't help me. Also, I disabled the option called "Turn of Hard-disk after a value of minutes".

Can anyone help me solve this problem please?

Hi,
I am having a Sony Vaio E series (SVE15137CNW) laptop running Windows 10 64-bit on it. I am facing this issue of turning off my laptop from 2 days, whenever I try to shut it down. The screen turns off like how it should and then the system restarts automatically. Even if I plug out the power adapter, the same thing happens.

I tried power draining my laptop by removing it's battery and pressing the power button but as soon as I plug the battery in, the Power LED notification light and Battery LED notification light keeps glowing. And it doesn't turn ON by pressing the power button. I start it by pressing the "Assist" button present in my VAIO.
I also tried booting into the Windows safe mode and then shutting it down, but still it just restarts again.
I tried "Hibernating" my system, but then when I press the power button once it hibernates, the screen does not turn on (yet the LED notification lights are ON).
I tried draining my battery completely while it is turned ON, once OFF. The power button still does not work, and I had to turn it ON by pressing the "Assist" button.

I reset my Windows a week ago. But after doing that it was working fine (Turning OFF and ON). I am having this issue since past 2 days.
Please help

Answer:My laptop doesn't shut down and keeps restarting

Go into setup(BIOS) and check what the power options show.
Also disable wake on Lan and wake on ring settings if you can find them.
Save and exit after disabling.

My laptop with Win 8.1 Pro x64 has two issues with power states which are not working correcttly. They are:

1-the laptop does not shut down completely; either by navigating to the power down option on the settings charm bar or by pressing the power button on the laptop (I set it to shut down instead of sleeping as default). The computers apparently starts powering down, but the power led never switches off, and the cooler keeps spinning. It won't turn off until I press and hold the power button or the battery drains up.

Of course, the same applies to hybernating; the OS saves the content of RAM and starts shutting down, but never completely shuts down. Ditto with "fast boot" enabled; it doesn't matter if it's on or off, the laptop still doesn't power down.

2-if the laptop sleeps, it simply won't wake up. The monitor turns off and you'd expect to press a keyboard key or move or click a mouse button to awaken it, but nothing happens. Again, all I can do is holding the physical power button to force a shutdown or wait until the battery is drained. When the laptop keeps stuck in sleeping mode, I notice that after some instants the Num Lock led keeps lit, and won't turn off even if I press the key.

What do you think might be happening, is it some issue with ACPI or power states? What do you suggest to fix those issues? Thanks in advance.

Seems to be very common problem and therefore finding solution not easy.
HP Pavilion DV6000, DV6500, DV6645 - all these numbers are present on laptop sticker.
CPU is AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-58 1.9GHz

The problem first appeared after updating friend's laptop to Windows 7 32 bit.
Now I'm trying to clean install again Vista 32 bit but no success.

Problem is that laptop doesn't shut down or does it after 10 minutes with BSOD:

0x0000009f driver_power_state failure

I disabled all network devices but no help.

I have installed all Vista updates, SP1, SP2.
All latest drivers are downloaded from HP USA website.

Any ideas how to continue troubleshooting?

Event viewer doesn't state anything special, at least for me, but I attached extract to the thread.

I have a Lenovo Y50-70 laptop and I have a really weird and frustrating problem. My laptop runs absolutely fine except when I take certain actions that include: Visiting a few specific website, going full screen on vlc and youtube, sometimes when running a game like secondlife. Then my screen turns absolutely blank/black with no cursor or anthing else visible. The laptop still runs absolutely fine in the background, eg responds to keystrokes, makes appropriate sounds and respond to other input but absolutely nothing will bring back the display to normal. I have to either put the system to sleep and wake up right after or restart it and then it runs completely fine until the next random event that triggers this happens. What's completely baffling to me is that visiting the site www.msi.com and www.firestormviewer.org will almost certainly give me a black screen immediately while the other causing factors are a bit random. I've tried the following:1. Install the drivers giving on lenovo's website as well as the latest ones for both my intel as well as nvidia gpu.2. Reinstalled windows 10 several times, even asked a lenovo engineer to install a copy of the windows with all the lenovo drivers that come with the pc originally. 3. Stopped windows update because it was installing newer versions of the drivers automatically. 4. Tried various browsers, msi.com still almost always gives me black screen on IE, edge and chrome.5. I changed the motherboard and my hard ... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Y50-70 laptop gives completely unresponsive black screen when opening certain websites.

I have exactly the same issue. Random black screen triggered by various events, like:visiting certain websites (msi.com for example is instant black screen, but there are others), mostly on full screen but on some sites always (happens with all browsers, FF, IE, Chrome, Edge)maximizing certain windows, like having console windows open and bringing them up to maximized from minimized state (happens around 10-20% of the time)I also have Linux Mint installed apart from Windows 10, and it happens there too, though less frequently! So I assume this is some hardware issue. It is extremely frustrating, and not something you expect from a high-end "premium" laptop! My colleagues were mocking me for not getting the ASUS and instead settling for "a lenovo". I won't make that mistake next time...

Hi, I bought a Lenovo Ideapad s510 sometime in May this year. Currently, my battery does not even hold for 2 hours. The specs mention that the battery is sure to last for 4-5 hours and it will decrease upon usage. Unfortunately, I have not used it much and my usage would count up to an hour to a couple of hours per day. I use my laptop for writing and surfing and I do not do anything much that memory or resource consuming, such as playing games. I tried the gauge reset method a couple of days back and my battery improved only for another 30 minutes, nothing more. I would like to know if this is the maximum battery backup that this system would provide or is something wrong with my battery?? Is anyone else facing a similar problem ?? Thanks

This problem is not the natural OS problem where an application resists the machine from shutting down and hence the machine restarts...
This is differemt..
I had posted on this community earlier too, but no one seems interested to reply to my post..
Its high time to take some bold steps because its almost 10 months (my laptop is just 11 months old) that i am facing the same problem and no one from this community or even the customer care people are able to solve the problem.
If you are not able to solve the problem please atleast exchange the machine..

THE PROBLEM THAT I AM FACING IS DESCRIBED HEREWITH:
When I shutdown the laptop, the laptop starts automatically after 2-3 sec(it does not restart) after it gets switched off completely(the white led light on power button is off). This scenario is different from the normal restart where the led light is on all the time. Here, the led light goes down(turns off) which means that the laptop is turned off completely, but suddenly after 2-3 sec the laptop starts again..I am facing this problem from the second month of purchase. I am using DOS system, with 64 bit Win7. I have formatted OS a couple of times.
I was asked to replace the motherboard of the laptop by one of your Customer Service Centre, and I did so, but the problem is not solved. Although i have started facina a new problem of heating. The laptop heats up quickly and the laptop has restarted due to generation of extensive heat couple of times.
The laptop is ... Read more

About a month or two after getting this laptop, I have been getting frequent BSODs, I can't go a whole day without having about 2 BSODs. Most of the time, the bluescreen leaves too early before I can see the message but last night the message was "Data Inpage Error". To note, before the BSODs flag up, it drags and slows down almost to freeze point for sometime and then BSOD comes up. After the BSOD shows up for sometime, If I wait for it to restart itself, it just runs to an infinite black screen, I have to force off by holding poweer button and then turning back on to get it up again. I love this laptop, urgent help will be appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo S510P frequent BSODs

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Is the BSOD giving you an error code or message that may help identify the problem ?

Another option would be to just do a One Key Recovery and restore the computer back to its original out of the box condition.  The downside is the recovery process will erase the operating system so you will have to backup any important files and re-install any software that was added since it was new.  Page #20 of your model's User Guide will explain the One Key Recovery.  Here is that guide for your reference.......

Hi. I bought my lenovo ideapad s510p 4 weeks ago, it worked perfectly fine the first 14-17 days, but then it suddenly began spiking when I played the online moba League of Legends. At first I thought it was a problem with my router, got a new one, the problem was still there, then I tried lots of different advice from friends, but that didnt work either. Then I tried to update my network drivers, but the problem was still there. I then thought to myself, maybe this problem is only when I play this game, but I made ping test to the google server and i saw 11ms and then it spiked too 300+. I don't know what the problem is, but if someone could help me out it would be appreciated .

HI Support.I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad S510p with WIN8 as a gift,  and now I need to reinstallt this with an operating system that they feel comfortable in using. It will be WIN7SP1.Is there any known issues with this version and WIN7 so I cant "downgrade" it to WIN7?Or do you think I will be able to find all related drivers to win7?Guess I cant buy image from you for this? Thanks for help..

Answer:Reinstall Lenovo IdeaPad S510p With Windows 7 sp1

hi Indigo_SWE,

Welcome to the Forums.

Regarding your questions:
1: As the drivers for Windows 7 are available in the Lenovo support site, downgrading the S510p to Window 7 is definitely possible. One thing to note though is that the Lenovo Energy Management for Windows 7 is not available yet so you may have some problems toggling the Fn key combinations. Check this article for more info about Lenovo Energy Management.

Other issues found by other users:
Windows 7 Combo Jack Realtek driver problem
Ideapad s510p driver problem Win7[

2. As most of the drivers are available in the lenovo website, you may also need to visit the maker of the device (i.e. Intel website for Intel Graphics driver) in an event that the oem driver fails to load.

3. AFAIK, if a certain unit only comes with preloaded Windows 8 standard, the recovery image.will just be Windows 8 standard. You may need to use a retail copy of Windows 7 to downgrade.

This is happening since last 4 months when i bought this laptop from showroom. I have formatted couple of times but nothing changes.i guess its an hardware issue!! Hi, If it's not one thing, it's another! I feel like my laptop bought in 2013 is falling apart on me now all of a sudden! When it pours, it rains, basically. Not happy. 1) the cover cracked at the hinges a few months after I got the laptop. Didn't think it was an issue. Wasn't an issue until number 2 happened. I then put black electric tape across the cracks on the cover.2) the display is separated from the cover. I put black electric tape all over it.3) the right hinge is popping in and out. I keep popping it in and out. Can't really open or close it without the hinge acting up, so can't use it as a laptop, only as a desktop. That is really annoying, if you ask me. and now, for the piece de resistance: 4) the AC converter is no longer working. Where do I find an AC converter for Lenovo Ideapad S510p Touch model # WB12764324? In the meantime, I'm borrowing a Lenovo Thinkpad AC converter. I need to return it soon, so I need a new AC converter for my Ideapad SOON. Thanks, much.

Sorry to hear of your problem.  Unfortunately I am not familiar with the warranty in your country.  I would suggest you contact Lenovo Support to discussion the repair, the cost and any possible warranty coverage you may have.  In the event the laptop is no longer under warranty you might seek out a local computer repair center to see if they will do the repair for you.

To be plain and simple I got this laptop as a replacement to finish my college classes with. It connects to my home wifi (AT&T U-verse gateway), our college wifi (Eduroam by Clemson), and most other internet. It just won't connect when I visit my parent's home. I have tried their password, clicking the auto-connect on the router, resetting the router, restarting my computer, updating all my Windows 8 64bit stuff, updating my wireless driver, etc.The computer DOES connect via an ethernet cable. Interestingly enough my husband's Lenovo will also not connect. My iPhone and most other devices in the house connect to NETGEAR 33-5G even though the actual network is called NETGEAR 33. My own Lenovo however does not see any other network besides NETGEAR 33.

Hello, I would like to preface this by saying that I have spent a lot of time trying to figure this out myself and I would greatly appreciate your help. My laptop is a Lenovo Yoga (Machine Type Model 20CDX00) that has problems with shutting down and sleeping sometimes. The problem started after I restored my laptop with a clean copy of windows 10.  I installed all of the drivers and I also updated my BIOS.  I noticed that sometimes my laptop would not shut down completely and the battery would just drain in the blank screen that I couldn't do anything about.  This also happened with sleep to.  Not all the time, but sometimes.  I tried to turn of hibernate and also fast start-up.  But, that did not work.  I, then, restored my computer again and I tried to reset the BIOS to the original BIOS.  I am still having these problems even after the restore which makes me believe that the BIOS is at issue becuase it is ROM and would not have been changed by my restoring of the laptop.  But, I did try to reset the BIOS to a previous version.  So, I am stuck and I do not know what to do.

Is this screen visible on the LCD itself?

The laptop can not receive a charge from the charger. I have tried taking out the battery and only having the charger plugged in but it does not allow the laptop to turn on because there is no power/connection going on. The charger connection to the laptop seems loose and it doesnt seem like it is staying in. To me it looks like the charging port is too far into the laptop now and the charger connection cannot reach that far inside to connect anymore.

You can try checking the actual DC IN Jack first inside your laptop.
You can refer to this maintenance Manual on how to get access of that part in your Computer.

If you think it is Defective you can check the part number on that manual and Call Lenovo to check on how to purchase the part or Check onlinse resellers about the part number and its availability.

I've had by S510p for about two years.  Running Windows 10. The shift key started being erratic this afternoon.  When holding the shift key, sometimes typing letters or characters works and sometimes not.  When it doesn't work, it's simply a case of nothing showing up on the page.  It may work 5 times in a row, but then not work a few times.  This is particularly problematic for typing in passwords.  It doesn't seem to always be in conjunction with any specific keys (sometimes a capital I or an ! works, and sometimes it doesn't).  Any suggestions?

My laptop was originally loaded with windows 8.  I updated to windows 8.1.   Had the touch screen feature until  I updated my laptop to windows 10 in august.  I have noticed some issues but the one i am most concerned about is the loss of the touch screen function.  Has anyone had a similar problem.  I see from the Lenovo website that the S510p  can support the upgrade.  Is some driver missing?  when I check device manager human interface device HID compliant touch screen it says it is working correctly and enabled.  Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.  I cannot undo the upgrade since 30 days have aleady passed. Thanks

Hi everyone, I bought this laptop about 3 months ago and I'm loving it so far. But every so often the keyboard would just stop working and when I try shutting it off, it would go through the entire shutting off process and the screen goes black but all the lights and fan would still be on. I am then forced to hold the power button down to force it off. When I restart the computer instead, it would take me to the blue screen where it would say "Windows has ran into an unexpected error" then the screen would turn black again and everything else would be on. Anyone have any idea or solution to what's going on? Thanks in advnace!

I have the ideapad s510p laptop running Windows 8.1 and I am stuck in the diagnosing your pc loop and it's missing me off. I have tried everything that has been suggested. The problem is the screen remains stuck on the loop, my F keys don't work, power button on/off suggestion to get to advanced options screen doesn't work, it doesn't matter what I press- the screen just remains on the Lenovo logo (black screen background) and the "diagnosing your pc" message and the little thinking..... dots going 'round! Can I remove the battery and then try something? I don't have a restore point set up and I don't care if I lose what's on this computer, I just want to get it working again!!!!!! I'm about to throw this laptop out the window. I'm tired of asking for help on this. Thanks

Answer:lenovo ideapad s510p stuck in a 'diagnosing your pc' then 'preparing automatic repair' loop

Hi Zeropatience50 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

After trying all advance recovery options and that you are willing to start fresh, you may want to factory restore it.
One Key Recovery (page 20) can be launch by pressing the Novo button (item8 page 74) while the pc is off to power on. Novo Menu should appear to offer System Recovery , one key recovery from initial backup.

Hoping that the harddisk / OKR image is still viable , things should proceed as plan .
Else check on this option:
Booting to Recovery Environment with Windows 8/8.1 installation media or Recovery Drive/System Repai...

Hope this helps.
Update us how it goes for you.

Regards

Hi all, I have a big problem. Some days ago, I was using my laptop while it was charging. Then, it suddenly turned off. I noticed that the battery light was red and blinking. I turned on my laptop and there wasn't any problem, it worked fine and the only strange thing was the battery icon, that showed around 7 %. It charged well and there wasn't any problem. At the next day it happened again, but when it was charging some hours later, the laptop turned off again. This problem kept happening this last days, but now when I charge the laptop, on the battery icon it says "connected but without charging". The first times this new issue happened it was solved by disconnecting and connecting the charger, but now it charges only by 3 or 5 seconds. Sometimes it works well but till around 60 %, where it start to doesn't charge. Can you help me?

The screen does not load at all and jumps straight into "Boot Menu" and "App Menu". I am not shure if it has anything to do with it, but it says in the Diagnostic Splash that the BIOS and the Video are shadowed.

Answer:Why doesn't Windows 10 load at all on my Lenovo laptop

According to Lenovo's Windows 10 Upgrade website, the IdeaPad U410 is not supported (it doesn't appear in the supported models list here):https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/do...As you can see, the S410 is supported but the U410 isn't listed. If you scroll up to the top of the page (or press the 'Home' key) you'll see this:"Date: Oct 02, 2015""Lenovo supported systems list for Windows 10 Upgrade. If your system is not listed, it hasn?t been tested for Windows 10 upgrade and is not supported"That may account for your problem. With laptops especially, you are supposed to check the manufacturer's website before you upgrade it to Windows 10.message edited by phil22

Hi all,I recently bought a Lenovo S410p and wanted to install Window 7 - Home Edition. I faced a number of issues - At BIOS level, then it refused to detect USB 2.0, then it refused to install latest Nvidia GEForce drivers (need to install some intel driver but no idea which one it should be!) . It was a nightmare! While doing that, I realized, my touch pad was a bit damaged, the buttons seem to be depressed, it was causing a ridge between the pad and the keys - quite annoying. I took it back to the stores, they did not have another S410p - Hence I settled for the larger screen S510p - paid the difference. Good service from Lenovo! Now back home and tried installing Windows 7 - All the same problems surfaced again. Tinkered for a week and no luck! Then I decided to clean everything up and start from scratch. Trust me it worked this time! I am not a computer geek but a normal user with very limited/basic knowledge. Let me explain what I did,I. BIOS/UEFI Setup1. You can enter the BIOS by pressing Fn+F2 key during laptop startup.2. Tab: Configuration - Make sure "USB Legacy" is "Enabled". Leave the rest as is.3. How on earth did you get this working? I've just installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on a brand new Lenovo Ideapad S410p, and NONE of the drivers will install properly without the machine physically locking up! They extract into the C:\drivers folder correctly, then after accepting terms and conditions, the install starts and randomly locks the machine. It's taken me a day just to get the Intel Chipset and Management steps done, but the LAN driver just will not take.

Well I recently bought a lenovo G570 laptop. The webcam worked fine for the first month. I don't really know when the camera stopped working but it seems that every software that uses a camera can detect the camera but when the video window pops up it is just plain white. I know the reason isn't because of the hot key FN+ESC because it works fine, I can disable and enable the camera. I read many threads with the same problem. I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers and easy capture but it does not solve my problem. Can someone please help?

Answer:Web Camera doesn't work on my Lenovo G570 laptop, Please Help?

As I  understand the camera is not working.

If the camera is getting activate by Fn+Esc key then it could be driver issue.

You need to uninstall the camera software and other relates software.

Update the BIOS and then install the camera drier

Download the BIOS update for Windows 7 32bit from the mentioned below web link.

Answer:Lenovo G700 17.3-inch Laptop Skype doesn't let me log in

hi dydusia,

When you login to Windows, are you using a Microsoft account? If this is the case then your issue might be similar to this thread.

Can you try to:
1. Delete any stored credentials by going to Control Panel (large icon view) > Credential Manager
- Link to picture

2. If problem remains and you're using the Metro version of Skype, try to install the Skype for Windows Desktop and observe.

Hi, I'm having trouble shutting down PC completely.Windows and monitor turn off, but the fans are still working, especially that on of the video card. My config is:

Windows 7 32-bit
ASUS P5K
GeForce 8600GTS
TV Tuner card Phillips SAA7135
2GB DDR2 RAM
Cooler Master 600W

I've installed 8.1 64-bit on SSD and there was a moment after I've made update when it didn't shut down, but after installing drivers with IObit and DriverPack Solution and Windows Update it worked like a charm. On Windows 7 32-bit I tried with DriverGenius Professional, it downloaded couple of drivers - not all, I''m still stuck.

Answer:Can't shut down completely

Well; first thing i would try is to do a system restore back to before you downloaded the drivers; as its possible for whatever reason that one of the drivers is causing the system to "hang" on shutdown. Do that by doing the following: click start, programs, accessories, system tools, then system restore. Choose the date prior to installing the drivers. Reboot; and see if windows will properly detect the drivers needed; then once they are installed; try and shut down and see if the problem is resolved or not. If not post back and we can go from there.

Hello, I'm at a loss.

Ok, this is wierd and it started happening out of the blue. I went to shut down my PC (Start Menu, etc.) as normal, got the usual "Windows is shutting down" (XP) screens, screen goes blank as it should, however, my case fans are blowing away as if nothing changed. I have a transparent side on my case and also saw the CPU fan was blowing away as well. The only way to shut everything down was hitting the power button on the power strip (holding down the power button in front didn't do anything).

Of course when I hit the power button on the strip (to use the PC again), all the fans come on blowing away. But the OS is still off. I hit the power button on the PC as if I was booting up, and the OS comes up as normal.

Everything works fine except the fans won't shut down. As if they have mind of there own. I've looked around on the net and thus far the only solutions:

Re-install the original Bios - They are the original and I've never messed with them.
Check for spyware - use Zone Alarm, nothing showing up on the active programs
Re-install windows - haven't done this yet
Replace the power supply - haven't done this either.

I'm wondering if its the Power Supply (its the originol ATX that came with the case) as I have two blue light strips in front for aesthetic purposes and one of the strips recently became dimmer than the other.

Any Suggestions?

Answer:PC won't completely shut down

yes it could be your psu.. check the voltage given in bios and an app like Everest Home or speedfan etc.. use a psu calculator to determine your system needs and if it is quite an old psu (more than a year) and a cheap looking one at that/noname brand then thats your answer there.... post back on how you go..

Dear Guys...

My computer, randomly, when I put it on standby, the screen will go black, but the computer will continue to run. It does it for so long, I just do a hard shut down.

It has done this intermittently in the past, but more so lately. I haven't noticed it on other accounts, but I haven't used them as much, either.

Answer:won't shut down completely

Seriously guys... what could be the issue with my computer? EVen when I hit shut down, it does it. The computer is still running, but the monitor is black, and I cant' get anything to go when I move the mouse or hit my space bar.

So I have to do a hard shut down. It is getting more frequent, meaning i have to do it at least 3 times a week now.

And... sometimes it will just start all on its own from Standby, without anyone touching it.

I"m also having issues with my Cubase, and I don't know if that is related or not. I've had a number of errors with my LAN something or other.

I can hit the reset button to restart or the power button to shut off completely. Anyone know how to fix the problem without doing a complete re-install?

Morning all,

I have a weird problem. When I shut down my laptop it seems that it shuts down completely but there is a green light that stays on and drains the battery.

The only way to completely shut it off and save the battery is to take the battery out.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and if there is anything I can do to fix it (has to be simple, I'm not very computer literate).

Computer is an Acer, running Vista.
Thanks

Answer:Won't shut down completely

According to the system manufacturer...what does this green light relate to?

We are running a 2000 network with only 2 Win98 terminals attached. All aspects of one of the 98 machines is fine except that it will not completely shutdown. It gets to the screen
"Windows is shutting down" but hangs there.
The hard disk seems to have shut down put won't go the extra step to completely shut down

Answer:98 won't completely shut down

That happens to me too and apparently others who post here. I think Microsoft addresses this issue on their help site. The solution I use is to just press the Escape key a few times and that usually causes it to go ahead and shutdown.
