Preferred Solution: Toshiba Satellite C70D-A-11D asks for BIOS password

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there

Pretty much every time I turn on my laptop I am being asked to enter in the date, it defaults to 1.1.2015. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can overcome this issue? Just to be clear this happens right at the point of turning the computer, i.e. before Windows even starts to load up. It must be date/time settings of the device.

Thanks for your help in advance

Hi,

I am new to this forum and purchased a Satellite C70D yesterday.
I went thru set up, It asked me for my email and password.

I entered this and the next time I logged in there was my hotmail profile photo.
I entered my password - no problem. I changed the language from Spanish to English etc etc.

I switched it on this morning and got the Toshiba Logo - then it went to blank screen and there was a large data entry box asking me for a password. I tried the same one and I get another screen showing a red data entry box saying "VERIFY ERROR!! Please reenter to continue!!

HELP!!

Can anyone help me please. I am operating windows 8.1

Thanks

Eric

I have Toshiba C55-B5202 laptop. Yesterday when I turned on It showed Enter Password out of nowhere. To my knowledge it must be BIOS password. I searched for this in google, and I found few people had the same problem with different models of Toshiba laptops. Some people sorted out the problem by using jumpers on the motherboard.
I don't know which jumer to short in my laptop model. I had assembled PCs, so I have no hesitation in opening my laptop .Please help me. I am out of warranty.

Hello everyone,

I've just bought a Satellite A300 - 1MC (model no. PSAG8E-00W00TEN) and i'm trying to use the Toshiba Assist software, but its asking me for a password and i have no idea what it is or where i can find it.

Any suggestions?

Also slightly off topic, the laptop has buttons for controlling media player, is there anyway i can change them to control iTunes?

Cheers
Ian

Answer:Satellite A300-1MC PSAG8E - Toshiba Assist software asks for password

Have you tried to make an update of Toshiba Assist? A new version and all other Toshiba stuff you can find here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
Maybe the update will solve the problem.

About the control buttons? I think you must set iTunes as standard media player and select all file with playing iTunes.

Answer:Satellite A100-785 asks me for a BIOS password

Hi

Strange? do you mean that the Satellite A100 ask for the BIOS password which you did not set?

However, there is not way to remove an unknown BIOS password. Only the Asp technician can do this.
Therefore you will have to contact the ASP technician who could remove the BIOS password for you.

Booting of my laptop is blocked by BIOS password, though I know exactly that the password was not set. This is a known problem of some Toshiba notebooks listed here http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletin.jsp?soid=1863789#. Toshiba repairs that for no charge.

I want to make sure that my notebook is listed there. But there are 5-digit model numbers where: A200-ST2041, A200-ST2042, P200-ST2071 while list of notebooks on Toshiba site includes 3-digit numbers only: 1N9, 1SM etc.

My laptop has 3-digit model number A200-1GH, model number PSAECE-02900ERU. Is there matching 5-digit number?

Answer:Satellite A200-1GH - Asks for BIOS password

The laptops on the Toshiba website are only American models so your notebook is not listed because you have a European model.

Normally a BIOS password can only removed from an ASP. In your case I would go to a local ASP. Here you can search:

Hi all,

My Satellite P200 was working perfectly under Vista but I needed to install XP for some certain work applications.
I followed the Toshiba instructions installed the required Bios update and now for some reason my laptop is asking for a password on power up.

I never set any password, an am not aware of any.

As I said this never came up before, only after the bios update.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

Answer:Satellite P200 asks for BIOS password

I have no idea why the password was set after BIOS update but I know that a BIOS password cannot be removed from the Toshiba notebook without an additional help from the ASP.

So if it?s really an BIOS password then you have to ask the ASP for password removing

An ASP can remove the password for you. It may be free of charge if its a known issue with that particular model. Updating the BIOS should resolve the problem after the password is removed.

I'm having a problem with a Toshiba Satellite L300D. After I reinstalled the HDD it would beep. To solve this I went into BIOS to look and see if the board had some sort of intrusion setting. When I exited the BIOS and restarted I know get the Enter Current Password (with a blue background on a black screen) with continuos beeps. The thing is it seems to auto enter in 10 characters (*) and then stop. There are no other options.

I have searched unsuccessfully for any info about this and I cant even find where the CMOS is located which I think is soldered onto the board.

Has anybody had any similar experience like this?
I would really appreciate any help its driving me crazy.

I've only noticed today that when I turn up my laptop's volume up to about 28 (even with headphones in), there's this high pitch noise that comes from the speakers. And I'm sure it's the speakers and not anything else.
But the sound is sort of that real ear-killing noise so I can't listen to it for long. It even sometimes sounds like thousands of crickets - a complete nightmare

But with my volume at any level below 28 I can listen to whatever through headphones without the sound bothering me.

Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I do know a thing or two about computers but nothing about anything extremely technical and I'm not sure if I want to take it apart, unless I really have to.

If you could help me it would be appreciated!

Try to recover the notebook once again using the HDD recovery option.

The recovery procedure would reset the notebook back to factory settings… usually after that no passwords should be set…

I ask because the top/FIRST memory slot on the motherboard of my laptop (please see title) is broken.

Can I perform try to reset by leaving a memory stick in the second slot (closest to the motherboard)?

1. Welcome to Tech Support Guy
2. If you KNOW the password this is the procedure
http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Comput...-UEFI-BIOS-or-HDD-hard-disk-drive/ta-p/407769
If you know the password for the BIOS or UEFI or don't have one set, you can change or remove a password through the UEFI/BIOS settings, Hardware Setup Utility, or TOSHIBA Security Assist Utility.
As explained on the link with the sub links to the appropriate OS
3. The procedure you appear to refer to, irrespective of where you found it is - I would think part of a suggested method when you do NOT know the password.
4. If that is the case, then one of the rules of this site is

Passwords - Please do not ask for assistance with (or ways to bypass) a forgotten or unknown password, personal identification number (PIN) or any other type of access code that may be required on a computer, mobile device or web site. As there is no way to verify the actual situation or intent, no assistance will be provided and any such threads will be closed.Click to expand...

5. Therefore I hope you will appreciate why we cannot assist if the presently set password is unknown.

There are a number of very good YouTube videos for almost identical models, but they don't work on this one. This video very nearly has the answer, but it's not quite right for the particular model variant I need:

You want to reset it, or remove it? Once you enter the original password, there should be an option to do either, but I am not familiar with Toshiba's bios. But you will need the original password.

Laptop running Vista abruptly developed a password requirement - it was just a light blue screen with a box to input a password.  Everything I entered was wrong, and attempting to start the Satellite by tapping F8 or with a Vista disc brought up that same screen.I bit of internet investigation showed that Toshiba laptops can be prone to this behavior, and that there's not much to be done other than resetting the BIOS.  I started stripping down the laptop and got frustrated when I finally saw that the CMOS battery was soldered to the motherboard without a pin connection that could be unplugged.  I soldiered on and saw many webpages that instructed people with a method to short out the BIOS using a jumper.I unplugged the laptop, removed the battery, HDD, and memory, and used a pair of needle nose pliers to touch this area under the RAM while simultaneously touching a metal bar.  I plugged in the laptop and turned it on while continuing to make contact, holding it for about 30 seconds.I unplugged, reconnected the RAM, the HDD, the battery and the power cord, turned it on and was prepared to be amazed.Instead I got nothing.  No video at all.  The machine DID turn on - I could see the proper lights turned on, and the fan was whirring, but no video or sound.I then connected the laptop to an external monitor.  Nothing.  I pressed the proper keys (fn + F5) to toggle between the laptop display and the monitor.  Nothing. Is there anythin... Answer:Satellite C660 asks for password

I assume you mean the BIOS password.
Strange if the notebook asks for password which you didn?t set in the past...
However, the point is that BIOS password cannot be deleted if you don?t know the password. Only the Toshiba ASP would be able to do that...
Therefore you can solve this issue only asking a Toshiba ASP for help and for removing this password.

Hi

hopefully someone can help me

I have a Toshiba Satellite L50 laptop and when i start it up it says
+no bootable device please restart system+

It is still under waranty as it was only bought 6 months ago.
I took it back where i bought it and they told me to contact Toshiba.

I am waiting on a call back.
I am hoping someone can help. It also asks for HDD password.

Where do I find that information?

Answer:Satellite L50 won't start up - asks for HDD password

Hi Kym

I guess the Satellite L50 cannot find the bootable device (HDD) because the HDD has been secured with an HDD password and without this password the HDD isn?t accessible and the system will not boot up properly.

Did you set such HDD password in the past?
I?m asking because such password isn?t set on new notebooks. Such HDD password can be set only by notebook owner?

From my knowledge if you don?t know such HDD password, you will not be able to get access to the HDD? in such case the HDD would be useless and the data would be lost?

Therefore I would recommend you to check if someone has set the HDD password on your notebook? in case you don?t know the password, you will need to replace the HDD and to reinstall the system once again.

It's a Packard Bell Easynote L4. It had a fault hard drive - but I could access the Bios by hitting F2 key.
After a successful hard drive upgrade, I now get asked to enter a password, if I want to get into the Bios configuration page.
I have downloaded a Bios upgrade from the PB website ( along with drivers), and wonder if, by updating the bios, which is now on a bootable CD, this might resolve (reset) the Bios problem.
Is it worth the risk, as the laptop is booting into XP and is working well?

Hi everybody,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 2100. I have some problems when accessing the Internet; When I start up the Internet, there's no problem, but when MSN messenger starts up the laptop breaks down and I have to switch off the laptop manually. Could this be some sort of firewall?

Last Sunday, this problem occurred while using Skype; But now the computer completely collapsed. First the system asked for 'inserting a system disk'. I didn't know what they meant, so I turned off the computer a couple of times manually to see if it would disappear.

When I now turn on the laptop, Windows doesn't start up and the system asks in a black screen for 'the HDD password'. Does anybody know what this means and where I can find it? And does this mean that my laptop died or am I able to fix it? Can somebody help me?

Many thanks in advance!

Unless you or someone else happened to set a BIOS password (which I'm very sure is not the case), it would seem that some sort of virus has released its payload. I suggest you use your recovery CDs to do a format and reinstallation of Windows. See your manual for more information on how to do this.

Hi,

does this problem appear with the BIOS upgrade to 8.20?
If yes, you can downgrade if you have saved the old file anywhere or you try to upgrade again perhaps you had some trouble with it!

But at first you can load your default BIOS settings with pressing HOME key when you are in the BIOS and try ifit is working?

I have two C70D's. Both died within weeks of each other, and went back for repair with RepairTech, under warranty.

Both machines failed to boot, with an error code(?) of three flashes of the power button.

One machine came back within a week, fully working.

The other took three weeks, came back with a change of motherboard (they say). I unpacked it, and it was still not booting, still flashing three times on the power button.

I phoned repairtech, immediately, sent it back, the next day.

Today it came home, again, I opened it...it wont boot, and does the same three flashes on the power light.

Back on the phone. They've booked it in again, saying maybe it's a peripheral. The only peripheral is the power adaptor. I have two. It doesn't work with either.

I believe the problem is battery related, but it's an internal battery so I can't open it without voiding the warranty.

Has anyone else had problems with RepairTech? Does anyone know if this is a battery problem?

HiAbout week ago, my Toshiba laptop spontaneously crashed, so I used the "Delete/Pwr Button" method to shut it down. When I booted up again, it asked me for a password (right after the intro screen which proudly states "Toshiba", and use the F2, F12 keys now to choose boot setting and/or setup). I didn't know the password, so after three random (and wrong) combinations, the system shut itself down. I tried it several times, and I tried the F2 and F12 keys, but both of them require the same password. So, naturally, I started researching online. I found some "back way" passwords, but none of them worked. I also found a PCI plug, a floppy disk, but the laptop can't use either of those (curse buying good computers in the 21st century!). Any advice?

I bought a Toshiba SA50-112 on EBay and have found that the BIOS is passworded. I have hunted for a solution, removed the CMOS battery and taken it apart to try to find anything to short across and have not found anything that works.
It does not have a parallel port so cant use that device. No floppy drive for a software solution. The person I bought it from said he picked it up in a job lot and cant help. Toshiba are, as always, utterly useless unless I pay them more than the laptop is worth (their standard way of doing business).
Can anyone help me, please?

Is the password protecting just the bios settings, or does it lock down everything, including boot to the OS?

I have a friend with Toshiba Notebook.
His wife messed around with the notebook, and tried to get around his windows password. Some how she got into the bios, because she saw F2 for setup. She then somehow put in a password for the BIOS. She thought is was her name, but that does not work. It will not boot with a dos system disc.

The machine will not boot. It will not get pass the enter BIOS password screen. Three tries and your out.

It is a Phoenix bois and I have tried all the backdoor words.

Any other suggestions.

Thanks

Answer:Bios Password Toshiba

If it's an older Toshiba, you can build a device from an old parallel printer cable. You connect certain pins to certain other pins (like connect 1 to 13, connect 2 to 7 and 10, etc...), plug it into the parallel port and boot up and it will allow you to get into the BIOS and reset the password. From what I remember, when you're in the BIOS, you have to set another password (make it simple like 1234) and the device lets you do this w/o asking for the current unknown password. You then save the changes to BIOS, shut down, remove the parallel cable thingy, reboot, enter the BIOS again, and remove the password you just created (like 1234). The parallel device has a catchy name like a 'boot blocker' or maybe 'BIOS booter' or something. They sell 'em pre-made on EBay but they only work on fairly old Toshiba's. I've only done this once about 4 or 5 years ago; it worked great when this guy's 5 year old go into the BIOS and BS'd his way into setting a password. We were all pretty stoked when this bootlegged printer cable let us reset the password!!! Anyway, I'm rambling... if it's an older Toshiba, look into it on Google or something. You can also get USB devices that do the same thing for newer Toshiba laptops, but they're not cheap; over $100 .... Just Google 'remove Toshiba password' or maybe 'reset {model number of laptop} password' or something. I dunno.... usually, these power on passwords... Read more

Hi!

If you run the Toshiba HWSetup you can see which BIOS version you have.

On the Toshiba website you can check if you have newest BIOS:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

On this page you can also search for a new TEMPRO version.

In order to reset a BIOS password on a laptop, you will have to open the case and access the motherboard itself. There will be a small round battery located on it that you will have to pull out and place back in.

I'm trying to work on someone else's Toshiba Satellite notebook, which has come down with a rather nasty set of malware infections. In order to get through the bootloader, you need to either swipe the biometric reader or enter the BIOS password. There's only one problem... well, two, actually: I can't have the laptop owner hovering over my shoulder for days while I work on it, and she never set a BIOS password -- it set itself, and there's no way to remove it. According to Toshiba, several series of laptops shipped with this BIOS version, that had a strange tendancy to randomly set its own password and lock the users out. They released a BIOS update which supposedly fixes this problem... with one little issue -- it can't be applied to any BIOS that has already had this happen, because you can't get into it and remove the password.

No, the BIOS password is not stored in the BIOS chip, it's in a seperate EEPROM chip on the mainboard, and can't be cleared by cutting CMOS power or moving a jumper. I've seen several tutorials for clearing the BIOS password on these, but they all involve cross-wiring a serial port, of which this model has none, or loading something via a floppy, of which this model also, has none.

Does anyone know another way to bypass and clear the BIOS password on these machines?

Answer:Toshiba 'BIOS password glitch'

There's a BIOS cracker in Hiren BootCD's. You could give those a try. Hiren BootCD's also has some BIOS clearing tools...maybe give those a try? You'll have to talk to Mr. Torrence for a copy of a Hiren BootCD tho =P.

I have a C70D-A-107 and want to speed up this notebook. Already placed 4gb extra memory so the notebook has now 8gb internal. I doubt whether it is usefull to put in 2x8gb. I think the processor is just to slow. It has a AMD E1-2100 inside. Is it possible to put in another (faster) processor?

Answer:Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

The Satellite C70D-A-107 was equipped with an AMD Essentials E1-2100 Accelerated CPU (1,00 GHz, 1 MB L2 Cache)
It’s not the fastest CPU therefore the notebook performance isn’t the best…

But CPU upgrade isn’t officially supported by notebook manufacturer... therefore I don’t think that you will be able to upgrade the CPU…

I read about successful Intel CPU upgrades but did not meet anyone who was able to perform an upgrade with an AMD CPU

Hello,
Just bought a Satellite C70D with Win 8.1. Everything works (as far as I know until know), except boot from DVD. I disabled in the bios the Secure Boot and changed the boot order to DVD first, then USB and then HDD. The DVD drive starts, but then it skips to the HDD and Windows is started. First time I tried there was a message like "DVD boot not supported" or something like that.
The DVD is bootable, so that is not the problem.
I would like to install Linux Mint alongside Windows.
Anyone solved this problem already?

The wurst laptop we ever had. We feel robbed of our money.

2 months ago we started with Ubuntu. It Still slow. IS there anybody with the same problems?

Greetings

Marco

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-108 is very slow

Hi Marco

I don't have this notebook model and cannot confirm what you wrote but fact is that almost all new notebooks are pretty slow at the beginning. Many applications are set to start with Windows and this, of course, slows down boot time.
Windows updates are also set to automatic so in the background the machine will download and install many updates so this will slow down your machine rapidly.

In my opinion you should install original OS that you got with this machine and optimize it a bit.
Remove all useless stuff, change start-up option and disable automatic Windows updates.
In the past I have noticed that original preinstalled antivirus is also responsible for notebook?s performance so I don't use original preinstalled application but my own version of Avir Antivir and it runs perfectly.

Check all these options and I hope your machine will run much better than before.

You have used simply a wrong BIOS password. Either you have mistyped, mixed some letters or for example the caps lock buttons was enabled.
Please check these possibilities.

By the way; it?s not possible to bypass the unknown BIOS password by yourself.
If the BIOS password in unknown you will have to contact the ASP in your country to unlock the computer and to delete the BIOS password.

I have a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q882 which has now spontaneously put a BIOS password. No idea on what it is. I have done a lot of research on the issues (of course a good deal of information regards to laptops from 95-02)

I have taken this beast apart and removed the CMOS battery, left it out for over an hour. I havent found any information regarding a password reset jumper or anything like that. The only other thing I have come across is a key sequence used to display a challenge code where another code can be entered which would remove the password, but nothing specificly for this laptop.

I have talked to Toshiba which has been uncooperative, telling me to send the laptop in. I am in a situation where I cannot send the laptop in, so anyone with any knowledge on these new laptops with thier Fort Knox BIOS would be great!

Answer:Toshiba notebook BIOS password removal?

Resetting the BIOS password is fairly straightforward on a desktop - remove the CMOS battery; after a short while (usually 10 to 15 minutes) the BIOS will be reset to the factory settings.

Laptops however present a bit more of a challenge.

There are several guides to using backdoor passwords
Google "resetting bios password laptop"
This will give you a whole range of possible solutions.

If you simply need to bypass the password but not reset it:
most Toshiba laptops will bypass the BIOS password if the left shift key is held down during boot.

Hi,Ok a friend of mine rang me today regarding her Equium A60, her ex boyfriend has put a password on the BIOS and I cannot work out how to remove it, she has asked him what it is, he claims he was drunk and don't know what it is. She has been quoted ?150 by pc world which is extortion. I have had it in bits but can't seem to find the battery, the ways of clearing BIOS listed on toshiba's site do not work, the thing is it is not exactly looked after so wouldn't be worth spending ?150 on it, but her college work is on it, which is her only concern.Anyone knows of a way, besides shorting the chip lol. I have 2 issues with my new Satellite C70D-B-32U.
When I put it in sleep mode, it does. But after about 5 minutes, it goes automatically to hibernate. This I don't want. And I don't want to disable hibernate, because I do use it when the laptop is not in use for longer periods. The power settings in control panel do not reflect this behaviour. In the settings, I specified that the laptop should never go to hibernate. Hybrid state is disabled.

And secondly, more importantly. Whenever it goes to hibernate, I can only wake it up with the power button. Not with the (internal) keyboard, not with the usb mouse. I would like an option to wake it from hibernate by pressing any key on the keyboard. In bios power on keyboard is set to on. Is there anything else I can change to have this available?
Actually if issue 1 is solved and the laptop stays in sleep mode, this issue is also solved since from sleep I can wake on a mouseclick which is also fine.

The OS is windows 8.1
