Preferred Solution: Faulting on running an application.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The last few weeks, I've been getting this error upon logging into Windows XP Pro SP2. The only option the system gives me is terminate the process. Naturally, if I do that, then nothing will run. If I just move the error message to the side, my machine works without problems. If I send or don't send error report, the system hangs and becomes unrecoverable without hard rebooting the system. I have found that if I disable Automatic Updates and BITS services, I will not receive the error, but I cannot get Windows updates. It won't even let me search for them to see if new ones have been released. I've seen reference on different forums of the solution always being in another thread that I can never seem to locate. The exact error is this;

Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.

I'm getting consistent/regular application errors involving "svchost.exe_SysMain" failures. A typical event message looks like the following:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Faulting application svchost.exe_SysMain, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x47919291, faulting module sysmain.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x4791adbd, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000000000027bc4, process id 0x9b0, application start time 0x01c9c9b411570516.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is followed (in the event log) by a cascade of errors from the "Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider" such as the following:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The ReadyBoost service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The cascade of service/driver errors occurs within 3 to 6 seconds of the initial svchost.exe_SysMain failure and hits a dozen or so other services including but not limited to ...

Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
Offline Files service
ReadyBoost service
Human Interface Device Access service
Network Connections service
Program Compatibility Assistant Service
Superfetch service
Tablet PC Input Service

Answer:Application Error -- Faulting application svchost.exe_SysMain

SYSMAIN is Superfetch.

I see exception code = 0xc0000005. What anti-virus product(s) do you have installed? If "Internet Security" package w/ personal firewall like NIS, KIS, Mcafee, etc... - IT is the likely cause and s/b removed.

Hello, all,
In looking at my error logs, there have been occasional errors with Word. But just recently, they have become quite a pattern. I'm not a techie and don't know if this error entry tells us details to center in on exactly what the problem is. But I am copying it below for your perusal. I am running Home Vista & Office Home & Student 2007. After I installed an update to my HP OfficeJet All-in-One I started getting frequent messages that Word had failed & Microsoft was searching for solutions to the problem. It always repairs & Word returns for continued use, but something is clearly wrong. I saw a discussion on Bleeping Computer that lead me to think that Office & my HP printer might be conflicting. But so far as I am aware the updates for both the Office & HP are the newest versions. I think Microsoft is completely updated. Can you help me correct whatever this is all about ? I am very unclear about what is happening & don't know what to do.
Thanks, dreamcatcherco

Answer:Application Error--faulting Application Winword.exe

Microsoft Word crashed because of this module: hpz3r4x6.dllThe references that I was able to find for this file suggest that its:1) an OEM driver file, and2) a Unified UI/Render plug-inWhich doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot to me, but I've got a guess or two about.Since the filename starts with HP and you've recently installed an HP OfficeJet...did you install it from the drivers on the disk, or did you download the drivers from HP? If you installed from the disk, did the disk (or the setup program) specify that the drivers were compatible with Windows Vista? Often printers will be marked with a "Works with Windows Vista" sticker - but won't have the Vista drivers on the installation CD/DVD.I would suggest uninstalling the drivers and software for the HP printer, then reboot and test to see if the error has been corrected. If it has, then try getting the Vista drivers from this link: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/suppor...Display=driversand see if that helps.

Answer:Faulting Application

Hello Bliss, welcome to Major Geeks.

Is it only games you get problems with or any other software.

Does the system try to send a message to microsoft?
If so click the details button and save the details to a text file.
Post that file here.

Some games have problems with some Nvidia cards. have you tried updating lately?
Do you have an earlier Nvidia driver to roll back to?

What version of Direct X have you?

It's becoming a real problem for me - Any Ideas?

What other anti virus program did you have installed before you attempted to install Norton? Anti Virus?

This might be causing a conflict with the installation, please advise.

I have been getting explorer crashes but now I have narrowed it down to "Windows Explorer" crashing only. When I have it opened for a while and do things in it when I go to close it I get the error and any windows I have opened close what I don't understand is why does it seem to crash explorer.exe 50% of the time I go to close "Windows Explorer" It does not bring down the entire operating system but it is very annoying and now it seems like Netscape using as my alternative browser because Internet Explorer keeps freezing on certain sites (that's another problem) and need to use netscape to view them I now need a alternative program to use instead of "Windows Explorer" because 50% of the time when I go to close it it crashes. I know that there are no solutions to this problem what I am now looking for is a alternative windows explorer program.

Hi, and welcome to the board.

For a start, it would be useful to have a closer look at your configuration:
Go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please show us its contents.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

I have been getting these errors in my event log. They were followed by a forced reboot until I changed the RPC service to simply restart itself until the whole machine. I have run a number of virus/spyware scans, searched and searched on the internet, and even upgraded to a pre-released version of SP3 all without any change in the results. There are three errors that show up in my even log when this happens.

The First:

The Second:

And the Third:

I'm at a complete loss. I have a fully updated system, including drivers, and have found NOTHING in the way of viruses/worms/spyware. I have a new HP laptop that had Vista formatted away and XP installed. I just started getting these messages a few weeks ago. And also, if it's of any use, these errors are usually accompanied by a brief loss of connectivity to my wireless network.

Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!!

So it's been a rough few days. My HD died on me as soon as I got back into town, corrupted disk, couldn't even boot. Ordered a brand new identical (going to run RAID1 after getting the RMA drive back)

Well got the new drive and have had more troubles trying to install XP and software, just been a nightmare. Finally got XP installed, thought it was ok, installed the first of the software then when I went to install Adobe Acrobat Pro I got the wonderful blue screen stop error. Details below.

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module shell32.dll, version 6.0.2900.2620, fault address 0x001e5e91.

I attached the minidumps.

Going to run a memory test but does anyone have any ideas? Latest bios, just installed the lastest Nvidia Nforce2 driver package thinking that might help. No luck.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

According to your minidumps si3112r.sys is the culprit. This is a sata driver.

I know nothing about sata hard drives, and can only tell you what I`ve found.

Does the above make any sense to you?

Hi Isaac Goldfarb,
Based on BurrWalnut and Andre.Ziegler?s suggestion, please try to run SFC scan to solve this issue:
System File Checker (SFC) scan can troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on your computer.

Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, type
cmd in the Start, right-click Command Prompt, and then click
Run as administrator in the bpottom. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Yes.At the command prompt, type the command sfc /scannow and then press
ENTER.
The
sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
For more information, please review this article Sfc to get more help:

I am about to go insane...When I am browsing folders on my hard drive, I keep getting an application error, explorer then shuts down and restarts. Doesn't seem to be any folder in particular. I am a systems analyst by trade, lots of PC experience...my PC is very clean, no spyware, no junk, no viruses, (at least on this one!) This PC is basically used as a little server and media is streamed from it to my 2 XBOXs.

Has anyone experienced this error where the faulting module has been unknown? I haven't changed anything recently that should have caused this.

Thanks in advance

Here is my PC and everything I have hooked up to it:

Hello all,

I am having trouble with Windows Explorer incessantly crashing, reloading my desktop and giving me the "Windows has encountered an error...needs to close...we are sorry (yeah, right!) for the inconvenience" error message. Occasionally this is followed by the Dr. Watson error message, but not usually. It is not happening all of the time, but has recently gotten more frequent. It is happening every time I open, then close My Computer. The error signature is 6.0.2900.3156. Faulting module is unknown. The Event # is 1000. Fault address is 0x01691509 (I think this may be different sometimes). When this happens, the screen flashes very quickly, the desktop reloads, and usually some or most of the programs are still running. After it happens a few times, then it starts locking everything up, and all I can do is CTL-ALT-DEL for the Task Manager. From all of the research I have done online, this appears to be a very common issue. It appears there are many causes and reasons this could be happening. I have tried system restore to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas of things I can try or other places to look for the answer to this problem? I have made sure that I am free of virus, spy ware, and ad ware. I have downloaded Process Explorer, but am not knowledgeable enough yet to know if it can help me troubleshoot this problem. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I consistently get a Generic Host Services error message every boot, and when I check the Event Log under Administrative Tools, I always see the same error message in the Application log:

Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting module qmgr.dll, version 6.6.2600.2180, fault address 0x0001c458.

In addition, under the System log, I get consistent DCOM errors reading the following:

The server {4991D34B-80A1-4291-83B6-3328366B9097} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

and

DCOM got error "The pipe has been ended. " attempting to start the service SENS with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{D3938AB0-5B9D-11D1-8DD2-00AA004ABD5E}

This is preventing my computer from doing several things, such as Windows file sharing (This seems to be controlled by the Server service, which no longer starts on boot, even though its set to Automatic. When I manually start the Server service, its stops automatically after a short time with no error).

If anyone has any advice on how to fix these things, I would be very appreciative.

OK this error is driving me nuts. It seemed to start when I installed WMP 10 on my Win XP upgrade from Win2K (Had been running stable for 1.5 years prior). When I right clicked on .wmv or .asf files, it would causes explorer to crash.

To try to fix, I reinstalled Win XP with SP 2 slipstreamed clean on the system and subsequently reinstalled all my programs. WMP 9 comes with Win XP SP2, and is STILL causing errors when I try to open an avi or wmv file in explorer. The even viewer lists the following error:

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.

I ran a memtest86 and it came back with no errors, and ran Burn In Test Pro 3 with CPU/MMX/2d/3d/sound tests simultaneously with no errors.

I use MPC for my media, but still this is irking me. Things open up fine in MPC and even streaming content from webpages (e.g. vids on tsn.ca) open fine, it's just opening files from explorer in WMP 9 that causes errors.

Does anyone have any idea how to help solve this? I can't believe a clean reinstall didn't even fix the problem; some people have said this is related to DEP but I have no clue.

As an added bonus, right click -> explore 'ing folders on the start menu doesn't work anymore either.
WTF?

ARGH!!!!

Oh yeah, I also tried disabling Data Execution Prevention (DEP) by setting the flag to "AlwaysOff" in the boot.ini, but that didn't help the... Read more

This problem is nothing new to xpsp2, but it seems to be coming fast and furious over the past month.
There are exe's and dll's that have the faulting module errors.
I have attached a log of all the event id 1000's over the past month 1/2.
Is there anyway to fix any of these problems or is it something that has be part of our lives with xp?

I do my computer maintenance ever week, I use c-cleaner every few days, and I run Zone Alarm (ZAISS)
ever day, and I just checked HJT, and I am clean.
Nothing rogue found.

I will try almost anything to reduce the number of these events.
TIA

Hi , have a number of issues , not sure if they all related or not . Firstly i am getting a DPE error when closing Windows based windows which sometimes leads to a DR Watson error message and then freezing of the screen . The error signatures I have to re boot . When i check the application event viewer it reads - faulting application explorer exe version 6.0.2900.3156 , faulting application drwtsn32.exe version 5.1.2600 0 and faulting module dbg help dll. version 5.1.2600.2180 . Will supply more info if required . Very frustrated . Hope someone can help

Answer:Faulting application/DPE/Drwatson errors

Dr Watson is a program built into Windows, supposedly to monitor for faulty applications (at least, I think it is).

Is there anything in particular that triggers it, or is it random? When did this problem begin?

Dear Geeks,

I am pulling my hair out.
Win Server 2k3 Std. SP1. Database server running Prolog 7.5 (by Meridian), Terminal Server, and it is the company's primary Printing Server.

Normal maintenance and restart of the server resulted in this error with the Printing Spooler.
It will not stay on.
I can reset the Service, disabled DEP, Virus Check, and tried dumping my C:\windows\system32\spool\printers directory.

To no avail.

Someone mentioned Hijack This and run a log.

Here is the Log of Hijack this -
It looks normal to me...

Any thoughts.

Answer:SPOOLSV.EXE Faulting Application Problem...

Welcome to Majorgeeks!

I seriously doubt this has anything to do with malware. In addition even if it did, HijackThis is not going to tell you very much. Most people are under the very mistaken misconception that HijackThis is a scanning/removal tool. It is not! HijackThis is simply a tool that is used to identify browser hijackers and in some cases it will show entries for some malware that is for instance running at startup. All it does is list a few of the thousands of registry keys that exist, and it makes no inferences to whether anything being shown is good or bad. That decision is left a person with significant Windows and malware cleaning experience. HijackThis does not come close to showing all malware that could be hiding on a PC. Anyone who has an infected computer and is relying on HijackThis without the benefit of running other scans such as Spybot, Windows Defender, BitDefender & Panda, CCleaner, etc. are more than likely still infected. In most cases, where there is one virus/trojan there are more. The goal of this forum is to remove all malware, and this cannot be done properly by just seeing a HijackThis log.

I'm going to move this to the Software Forum. If at a later time, you really feel you have malware problem, we can move it back (you can just PM me or any mod or admin to do so).

Hello,

Since today, I'm having problems opening excel xp files.
The OS is winxp sp2.
office XP standard edition.

When trying to open any shortcut from my desktop or from an explorer window, I get the message that the name of the file is not correct altough I'm 100% sure of that.
I can still open the files but I have to open excel first and use FILE->OPEN but this is not a convenient way to work.
In the application event viewer, I see an error message: "faulting application excel.exe faulting module msostyle.dll for more info see..." When clicking on the link, I get the message that no info about the problem could be found.

Does anybody have an idea why this is?

thanks for any help.

So, I've been having this problem that's been pissing me off to no end. After countless hours of searching for someone with the same problem and having no luck, I turn to these forums for help. Hopefully you guys can succeed where I have failed over and over.

My rope is 10 feet long, and I am just inches from throwing my computer around like a monkey. Which would not be good on a nice gaming computer... not nice at all.

So here's what's going on. I've learned that it's a Superfetch process, so I've gotten that far... but how to fix my problem is another story.

Here's the data:

After I opened device manager it paused then loaded all the hardware in my computer.  Then it crashed (as it keeps doing lately) and gave me this error message: "microsoft management console has stopped working."  From the event viewer

Hi tonbur,
What is your current situation?
Check Windows Update and see if we have installed any updates there.
If yes, try to uninstall the recent update and check if issue insists.
As the DISM command doesn't work here, you may consider to do a PC Restore/Refresh.

Problems when following steps:
Step 3...IE-Spyad no longer exists (think it is now replaced with zonedout) so I did not download.
Step 4 Windows update..Security update for microsoft.net framework v1.1 sp1 failed
Step 5 at first hijack this would not load. I saw there was an icon for RSlogic in the bottom corner so I closed it and tried again. It then completed.

Whenever I try to boot my computer, I keep on getting a svchost and Generic 32 error. Sometimes I am unable to then properly shut down my computer and it freezes, other times it works fine but will constantly reboot.

Here are the relevant error messages. Note that I do have an HP PSC printer, but I have tried using the most updated driver (which isn't really so up-to-date) - I think the netapp error is the most important:

I have this issue happening on multiple computers. Most of the computers are IE9 and we have ran all available Windows updates. It is not something we can instantly reproduce, but still happens 3-8 times a week.
I have a lot of dump files from multiple computers.
Steps taken so far.
-Clearing IE cache.
-Resetting IE settings.
-Disabling addons
-Enabling Use Software rendering instead of GPU rendering.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop running Windows XP Pro Version 2002 Service Pack 2. (Though I don't know if it's relevant, it's a Genuine Intel(R) CPU, T2400 @ 1.83GHz, 987MHz, 1.00 GB RAM. I will also note that I'm currently on a school ethernet network, though I doubt that's relevant either, since this seems to be an XP problem.)

I've run both SpyBot and Avast at the request of a friend and nothing out of the ordinary has shown up on either.

In the past few weeks, I've been getting explorer.exe errors followed by drwtsn32.exe errors, (the second time this happens I tend to get faultbuckets as well for each) and then finally culminating in an active desktop error where the active desktop can't be recovered and the prompt is to run scripts from desktop.htt.

While I've been able to fix that last symptom by going into desktop properties and resetting it I know that it's just a temporary fix, but I'm looking for something that might fix the source of these errors.

I've included the data logs for the second time it happens (before the desktop error) from the System EventViewer below.

I recently upgraded my computer and did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.  I have since been getting the above error often.  Once this error occurs, most icons become plain white pages; opening Computer does not show drives; opening Control Panel does not show anything; and attempting to open the Properties dialog of a drive doesn't do anything at all.  All of these symptoms go away (until the next instance of this error) if I open Task Manager and End Process on DllHost.exe.

Until a few days ago, another symptom was that Context Menus would not appear.  This symptom seems to have been resolved by running shexview-x64 and removing Context Menu items that I don't use or just don't care about.

One other symptom that I believe is related (but I cannot verify this) is that it seems to be causing problems with temperature and/or fan sensors.  I say this because occasionally, I will get a message that my CPU fan is at 0 RPM, but I can see it spinning normally.  Further investigation shows a MB temp of approximately 80 degrees F and a CPU temp of approximately 75 degrees F.  Since that is roughly room temperature and my computer is busy converting video files at the time, I doubt the CPU is at 75.  This 0 RPM popup ONLY happens when there is a problem with DllHost.exe.

Hi,

OK, now, Explorer has begun crashing ever since I converted (or tried to ) an mp4 file to an avi file. I used a freeware converter called Pazera. Everything seemed to be working, but when the encode finished, every time I tried to right click the new avi, to rename it or move it, Explorer crashed.

So I installed DVD Flick to burn the avi as a DVD, just to get it off my HDD and see if it was an actual file. Everything seemed to go fine until the DVD was "finished" burning, and when I tried to play it from my DVD-ROM drive, Explorer crashed again, and when it came back up, my DVD drive was listed as a "CD Drive" in My Computer.

I somehow deleted the avi I had made, and backed up the original mp4 file.

My antivirus and SuperAntiSpyWare Pro didn't throw any red flags with the Pazera encoder, so I suspect the problem is a codec problem, because now I am having the same problem with Explorer.exe crashing when I try to right click another avi .

I also installed AutoGordianKnot, because I knew I'd want to use it soon, and it worked very well before my computer started bluescreening several months ago.

So, there is either a codec redundancy issue or...?

I have a Dr Watson log - should I attach it? It should have info from the last 10 crash events, which may precede the new issue with Explorer.exe crashing.

Thank you for any help - I know I am a real basket of joy here. :-o

Hello ,

I have a application exe from my work that will only run and install on a 32 bit OS. I would like to use it on my W7 64 bit OS. I have tried right clicking on properties and then going to compatibility tab...then running it in XP or Vista mode none of them worked. I still get this error... this version of this file is not capable of running on a 64 bit OS. Is there anything else I can try? The exe ran fine with XP and Vista 32 bit.

Answer:Running a 32 bit application exe with 64 bit OS

What application is it?

most programs that will run on x32 and x64 operating systems usually have both install packages on the exe if it doesn't then you either need to get the x64 version or you are going to have to have to install a x32 version of xp or vista on another partion of your computer so you can at least use it some how.

there's a program called NTFS dos. do a google search and get it. try running your pc in pure dos mode (restart to dos) and run the program from there (you need to know how to use dos commands, if you don't just type HELP at the prompt it's fairly easy). I'm really not familiar with that specific program. can you tell me more? what's it do?

Hi all,
yesterday i was performing some routing maintenance on my pc, and i noticed there was an evernt log showing an error of an application that was stored in the path. (Please note i didnt mistype VLC).
C:\Users\{myuser}\Appdata\roaming\LVC\lvc.exe
It was always giving me an error code 0x0000005. I am worried if this is some sort of virus.
when i checked with a windows defender and avg i got no virus. It was also using the visual basic command line script process when i checked task manager.
What else could i do to check out the problem?
Thanks

EDIT: I tried searching online, but i found no results

Answer:Unknown application running on my pc

Searching with Startpage shows one link to a fix for some virus and a couple of links to Garmin GPS software. Nothing else of substance.
Lycos found an article about an old Server 2000 bug and a Lee Van Clief screensaver.
I'd try every search engine you can think of until something makes sense.

I have a small executable that I need to run as a service in a fully updated Server 2003. If memory serves, NT had tools built in to do this, but my Google searches only turn up third party applications, nothing native to 2003. Anybody have experience doing this?

Answer:Running an application as a service

You will need to use the SRVAny.exe in the 2003 resource kit. I don't remember the switches or how to do it off the top of my head and I can't seem to find my notes on it at the moment.

Hope this helps

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.
I have a 16 bit application that I developed with Borland Turbo C++ on XP.
I have installed XP mode and reloaded Borland and my application, but when I try to run it, nothing appears to happen.
When I run it under the Borland Debugger I get the message:

An application has attempted to access the keyboard or mouse hardware as a 16 bit Windows application, which cannot be supported. This may cause the application to function incorrectly.

This comes after my latest reinstall of W7 after some very strange errors started cropping up.
This never happened in previous installs of XP Mode.
I have also installed my copy of XP SP3 using VirtualBox, and have got exactly the same message.

I originally saw this message when I installed the Borland software on W7 and tried to run it from there, but it has ALWAYS worked in XP Mode in the past.

What has changed?

I have a 16-bit application that I want to run...problem is I have 64-bit Windows 10 installed and it won't run it. I installed a trial of Windows 10 32-bit on a spare drive and can get it to work perfectly, but I don't want to run at 32-bit outside of this application. I have also tried running virtual machine/XP Mode, but I can't get it to span my two screens (i.e. limited to one monitor). I've also tried Dosbox, but resolution is horrible, and again limited to one screen.

Before I buy another Windows product key, wondering if there are any other solutions that I haven't thought of.

Also, if I do get a second copy of Windows I want to run it off a separate hard drive (i.e. "main" with Windows 64-bit and "spare" with Windows 32-bit). Other than going into the bios and changing the boot priority between the two, is there a way to bring up a selection screen when booting? Or even better, something similar to when you install the OS from disk, it will boot normally unless you press a key.

Answer:Running a 16 bit application in Windows 10

Virtualbox - and then install whatever OS you need on it.

That way.. you boot to your normal Windows 10. Then if you want to run that program, you just start up Virtualbox and it will load the OS on it in a VM and away you go.

Answer:Running a Java Application

you have to make sure the system without JCreator is running the java virtual machine and then you use the java virtual machine on their system to run the classes for the program you've developed.

Hello TechSpot

In Europe there is a new law requiring to make a special document for proffesional transactions called a DCA/DAE through the internet, instead of the paper document that has always been used.

So our government issues a USB Key with an application on it.
The problem is when i double click this application the computer loads (seemingly, goes slow, makes noise and mouse cursor change to thinking cursor) but nothing actually happens, no window, no error nothing in task manager, like i never clicked the app.

At our office we have 5 computers where 4 of them run windows 7. On one of these computers with windows 7, the USB key works perfectly fine, program runs and can issue the documents.

But take any other computer in the office and we get the above mentioned problem ! XP and Windows 7, no difference. either computer, or laptop, no difference.

Anyone has a good idea of what may cause this ?

Answer:USB application loading but not running

I have tried running it in Windows XP Compability mode as well as win 95, with and without admistrator rights. still no effect. is there anything i could do to get a better idea where the problem is coming from ?

When you change the following registry value to "1", is FIPS enabled in realtime or does the machine need to be rebooted?

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FIPSAlgorithmPolicy\Enabled

We require FIPS 140-2 compliance on all machines running WinZip. I was wondering if it was possible to enable FIPS when WinZip is opened. FIPS breaks several sites, applications, etc in our environment and trying to find the best way to be FIPS compliant so
that WinZip runs in FIPS mode. FIPS is not needed for anything other than WinZip at this point. Any suggestions?

I installed a program on a different computer and it ran just fine, but when I installed it on this computer (ASUS P4C800E Deluxe) it seemed to install and said it was successful, but when I went to use the program this is the message I got: "Could not run your drive information, please run the Drive Selector application." I don't understand what that means or where to go...the program is for copying DVD/videos. I tried installing it twice with the same results. The drives are recognized and run just fine for all other programs. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Answer:Running Drive Selector Application??

My guess is that this has to do with the Zone selector.
When you buy a DVD drive, it's generally set to a specific Zone.
I think that the program that you've installed is trying to work on a different
zone from the one you DVD drive is set to.
Is your DVD drive on your other computer is multi-zone?

Do you mean, 'How can I run this Appl on SOMEONE ELSE'S server 24/7?'

Well, you have to get the permission of the server owner/Operator, and arrange to upload the code to them. They'll manage the Appl from their end.

I have been a long time user of a fantasic software tool for Google Earth called GE Path by a clever fellow R.Sgrillo. It's an older piece, not enhanced beyond it's current version from 2012. I have tried to consult the creator for support, but I'm not even certain he provides much towards it anymore. After a recent hard drive reformat, and reinstallation of Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit and GEPath, I have found that I am unable to use GE Path due to an error I had never experienced before.

When I execute the application, I am met with this error: "Component 'FM20.dll ' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is mising or invalid."

I can confirm installation of Microsoft Office has left FM20.dll in my Windows/System32 directory. What might be causing this issue, and how do I resolve it?

The author's website states that the software requires vb6 runtimes, which I can't say for certain I have or not.  I clicked on the link he provied to download, which takes me to a Microsoft page no longer available.

I found and downloaded vbrun60sp6 from Microsoft (VB6.0-KB290887-X86) and attempted to install it. A small box flashed up in the top left corner briefly, and did nothing. Just kinda ended. I have my doubts anything was installed. I downloaded and attempted installation of VB60SP6-KB2708437-x86-ENU. It wouldn't install because I needed MS VB6 SP6 installed. Which obviously I don't.

Answer:switch for running an application as administrator?

Hello zivshosh,

It depends on how you are wanting to do this.

Usually, you could just right click on the program .exe or it's shortcut and click on "Run as administrator".

Here are some other options in the tutorial below as well. Option Five or SIX could be good for this.

Hi,
First time here, and it's to try to get a problem solved.
I have various applications which I sell. Written in Visual Studio.net some in 2003, and some in 2008 versions. However the problem is the same with both.
The applications have been running successfully on Vista 32 bit, but with Vista 64 bit, this error message appears when the user tries to start the program:

Runtime error:
An unhandled error has occurred.
"An attempt to load a program with an incorrect format, (Exception from HRESULT:0x8007000B)"

If the problem persists, please contact your software supplier.

I would appreciate any advice / information about this.

Norm

Answer:Problem running studio.net application in 64

More info about the architecture of your apps would be useful.

In this context, 0x8007000B (facility=Win32, error=0n11) usually means you're trying to load a 64-bit binary into a 32-bit process, or vice versa. As you're probably aware, 64-bit Windows can run either 64-bit or 32-bit code, but any given process must be entirely composed of either 32-bit or 64-bit binaries, except for the thunking layer (wow64.dll, wow64cpu.dll...).

If your apps are managed code (reliant on the CLR and the .Net framework), they'll run as 32-bit on a 32-bit OS, and 64-bit if moved over to a 64-bit box. That's a problem in a scenario where you've also got a 32-bit DLL which is unmanaged and which you're trying to load into your process. That'll work fine on a 32-bit platform, because both the managed and unmanaged portions of the app are 32-bit, but when you move the same setup over to a 64-bit box the managed stuff now automagically becomes 64-bit and it can no longer load a 32-bit native component into its process.

If that's you, there are several ways to resolve the issue, depending on your exact needs. Check out the CORflags utility - MSDN has lots of info on how to use it to tag your managed code to always run as 32-bit, even on a 64-bit platform. A more complex alternative, which is apt under some circumstances, is to provide separate 32-bit and 64-bit binaries for the (compiled) native component.

Hello, new and clueless user here.

Alright i played Artemis yesterday just fine, had to restart for network stuff, still everything fine. After playing for 2 hours i stopped and wanted to queue for a quick match of CS:GO. after 5mins in BSOD 124. Boot again get back in the match same thing 5mins later. Alright something has to be off here. Hearthstone works fine pc runs fine but CS:GO (haven?t tried another 3D app yet) 5mins in BSOD again.

I tried to check everything that i thought was causing the problem, i did the memcheck and the Disccheck through build in Windows command (all good). I tried Furmark and it lasted around 7mins then BSOD again. I did clean the insides of my PC just then and started Furmark again. Lasted around 20min and maybe further but had to stop because of work. I thought the problem was the dust but i just started CS:GO and 2min into the match BSOD 124.

I experienced this kind of crash before with witcher 3 but that depended on the Game version and was solved by OCing my CPU and GPU. I did not try this for CS:GO yet.

I hope you can help me track down the cause of these BSODs, if you need further info just say so.
Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Happened again with RO2. Added latest dmp.

i am kinda newbie to the 64 bit world and i am trying to buy a new laptop which is preloaded with 64bit version of windows vista home premium. but my question is can i run all the apps that i use now on the new machine.
like say i want to use firefox. so can i just go to firefox.com and download and run it. will it run properly? or i need some kind of special version of the software.

so can any of you help me with it before i buy the ladtop. thank you

Answer:Can you run all 32 bit application in a 64 bit system running vista?

That is a very good question. Hopefully my answer is just as good: yes. Everything should run just fine. I use firefox myself on a 64 bit and it works. All your programs should work just fine. Some may not work too well, and some have 64 bit forms, but 98% should work normally.

Thanks be to the computer gods for backwards compatibility!

Hello,

I'm trying to set up a new computer, and unfortunately there are two MS-DOS design programs that need to run on it. We've been running these programs on an old MS-DOS 6.0 PC forever and finally decided it's time to get rid of that computer. I tried installing the MS-DOS under VirtualBox, but had continuous problems completing the installation (usually when the computer asked for Disk #2, it wouldn't recognize that the disk was present). I looked at VirtualPC 2007, but since they no longer support the MS-DOS addons for mouse emultation and shared directories, I ended up installing DOS to VirtualPC 2004 with no problems.

So here's the problem, each of the legacy programs requires its own Parallel Port Dongle (we have both of these and they work fine on the older DOS computer). When everything is finally set up, one of the programs runs and recognizes its dongle, but the second one does not. (I also tried DOSBOX, but then neither program detected its dongle).

Can anyone suggest a way for me to get this working, or at least some troubleshooting steps I can take? I have so far tried rearranging the dongles, installing different versions of the software (we had a few upgrade packs), slowing down the software using moslo, and monitoring the parallel port to try and see if the software and the dongle are talking at all. I tried monitoring the Parallel port with PortMon, but it didn't display any communications at all (even with the program... Read more

I have been getting bsod when I play games and running other applications (streaming while gaming/ music while gaming).

I recently upgraded my hard drives assuming that was the culprit, but the blue screens still continue.

I have done all windows updates, and have done a fresh windows 7 ultimate (genuine) install.

Any help would be nice. Attached is the dmp files (i dont know how to read them).

Welcome to the forum.

Take memtest. Run for 8 passes and test each stick in a know good slot for an additional 6 passes.RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Quote:
The goal is to test all the RAM sticks and all the motherboard slots.

Check your motherboard manual to ensure the RAM sticks are in the recommended motherboard slots. Some motherboards have very specific slots required for the number of RAM sticks installed.

If you get errors, stop the test and continue with the next step.

1. Remove all but one stick of RAM from your computer (this will be RAM stick #1), and run Memtest86 again, for 7 passes.*Be sure to note the RAM stick, use a piece of tape with a number, and note the motherboard slot.
If this stick passes the test then go to step #3.

2. If RAM stick #1 has errors, repeat the test with RAM stick #2 in the same motherboard slot.*If RAM stick #2 passes, this indicates that RAM stick #1 may be bad. If you want to be absolutely sure, re-test RAM stick #1 in another known good slot.
*If RAM stick #2 has errors, this indicates another possible bad RAM stick, a possible motherboard slot failure or inadequate settings.
3. Test the next stick of RAM (stick #2) in the next motherboard slot.*If this RAM stick has errors repeat step #2 using a known good stick if possible, or another stick.
*If this RAM stick has no errors and both sticks failed in slot#1, test RAM stick #1 in this slot.
4. If you find a stick that passes the test, test it in all ... Read more

Hi

I have Windows 10 v1703 and I would need that an application is always run with administrative privileges even when it is run by a user who has a Users's account.

So, how should I do this?

Thanks

Bye

Answer:Running always an application with administrative privileges

You may want to take a look at the following tutorial, It's designed to run a program at startup without triggering the UAC prompt but you should be able to create a shortcut for the user to run on demand

Create Elevated Shortcut without UAC prompt in Windows 10 Windows 10 Customization Tutorials

Any issues and you may be best posting in the actual tutorial to allow Shawn to take a look at when he's online

I have a flash application running within a secure site. The program uses resources such as video clips and powerpoint presentations. Video clips work OK, but when I ask it to open a .ppt, a popup window appears briefly and then disappears again.
Popup blocker is disabled, and I don't have google or yahoo toolbars.
It's running in a trusted site with all the settings set to minimum security.
there is nothing wrong with the ppt - it runs perfectly on my pc, and from within my secure site.
And (perhaps crucially) it all works perfectly in Firefox!

This all leads me to conclude that there is a setting in IE7 that is wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure out what.

Can anybody help?
The ppt is one of the Resources within the SCORM-compliant "OCR PE AS level Teaching Support" from Heinemann. This is running as a course within the Fronter VLE. (Just on the off-chance that there is someone with specific knowledge of this!)

Thanks in advance.

Sue

Welcome to TSF

What type of anti-virus & security programs are installed? I know Norton Security has some type of popup blocker in their settings.

Greeting,

I'm trying to run an application, named Da51, STK, and POS, which are written in MS-DOS based since 20 years ago.

Now here's the thing, I tried to right-click on the .exe file.
- A box (which suppose to be ms-dos box) pop-up and immediately disappeared.

I execute command.com, I went to that folder, and manually type in the command myself.
- 1st attempt, nothing happen
- 2nd attempt, an error message pop up.

p/s: Please take note that, all these applications are RUNNING WELL in Windows 98.

I research online, went to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314106 and http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;314495. But both doesn't really solve my problem.

I manage to run command.com. However, I'm confused with this part.

Hi,
I am developing a Java based application and need to make sure that if it crashes, it comes back on. I tried setting it up as a service, but as it requires interaction with the user, the "Interactive Services Detection" is tripped when I try to bring it up.

My thoughts right now are to have it update a text file periodically and have a service monitor that text file. If the file has not been updated, then the service runs a script which reopens the application... does anyone know if there is an easier way of doing this? (or if this will even work?)

Thanks!

Answer:How do I keep a Java Application running at all times?

Create one user app and one service app. The service app checks on the status of the user app and restarts it - if need be.
