Windows update failing - version 1709 Update - no real error message.

Question: Windows update failing - version 1709 Update - no real error message.

Hi all, I am having a frustrating issue at the moment, where my pc is taking 20 minutes to boot - this is primarily because it keeps trying to install several windows updates, gets to 30% after multiple restarts, then fails, and says "recovering original windows installation" and finally boots up. It then presents a list of failed updates. This is below.
These all see to be for Windows version 1709. Can anyone tell me if my issue is possibly because, acording to my system I have version 1703 - and if so, how do I get it to 1709 so i can install these and move on?
Any advice please? This is driving me nuts. The only thing I have found online is recommendations of a full re-install, which i dont want to do, not with hundreds of Gb of games, and all the setup for HOTAS, Oculus and everything to do again, that will always be last resort for me.

I have tried:
Uninstalling BitDefender and trying again. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.Using the Windows Upgrade Assistant.Running updates in Safe Mode.

Everything I have tried has the same result. Any help would be appreciated, as a re-install would take me a couple of days to get everything back to where it is now. Other than these updates the system is perfectly stable and runs well.

Preferred Solution: Windows update failing - version 1709 Update - no real error message.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all I am trying to help my uncle update his windows 10.. He has an Asus Model X551MA Laptop 64 bit and 4 gigs memory.

The problem is I cannot get it to update to Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709

How can I fix this problem?

Also I have another issue The device, Intel(R) Trusted Execution Engine Interface , cannot start properly. It may not have the correct driver installed or may be experiencing a hardware failure. The Plug and Play ID for this device is PCI\VEN_8086-DEV_0F18-SUBSYS_14DD1043-REV_0E\3-11583659-1-D0.

I tried uninstalling the driver but that did not work.

Thanks for any help you can over.

Have a great night

I manage to get to the point where it installs and restarts the computer but then after the restart it goes to a blue screen and resets to a previous build of windows. Per review of several articles this should be compatible with my computer and am not sure of the issue. The error I am getting is
IQRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Anyone else having this problem?

I had similar troubles when upgrading from windows 7 to windows 10 but managed to get through it by removing all usb peripherals except keyboard and mouse.

I recently upgraded my motherboard, ram, cpu and graphics card. I was online with Microsoft for an hour fixing the activation and proving my everything was legitimate.

I have tried the the MediaCreationTool, downloaded and succesfully made the install DVD (no to updates, Windows 10 Home).

The DVD install ran and the update/install failed with this really informative error message:

When I clicked OK I could see that setup was at 45% done and then it all rolled back.

After the rollback and logging in again the DVD setup gave me a more informative error message.
Since there are no peripherals attached I searched and found the SFC and DISM suggestions. Here is their results:

Both show no errors or corrective actions.

I checked the C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources log files for both Panther and Rollback folders. They are attached here.
upgrade issues.zip

I'm a bit stumped at this point.

Following Microsofts troubleshooting tips I've found the issue is related to a driver but I'm not sure which one.
See error code "0xC1900101 - 0x30018" on https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...lyze-log-files

How do I figure out which driver is responsible?

Answer:Windows 10 Feature update 1709 keeps failing to install

Don`t use the MCT to create a dvd installer.

Just download the Iso file, check its size and use this simple program to burn the Iso to the DVD, make sure you burn it at the slowest possible speed given in the program, after you insert the blank dvd.

The 64 Bit Iso of W10 Fall Creators Update is 3,720,192 KB

As far as Activation goes, you are trying to install W10 on a new MB (new Hardware) so technically you should buy a new key. But they say you can link your Microsoft Account to activate W10.

I have Windows 10 Home 64-bit installed on a PC and have realised that it's been failing to install the anniversary update 1607 for a few months (I'm always seeing the 'Update and Shut Down' option but then getting a notification after start-up which says 'Updates failed to install').

In the Windows Update settings I can see the following message "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607 - Error 0x80240fff". Some other updates for Windows 10 1511 have successfully installed through Windows Update last month.

I've created a USB stick using the Windows Media Creation Tool. I first tried running setup.exe from the USB - it seemed to be working until the upgrade just stopped, went back to my desktop and gave me a dialog which said 'Windows 10 installation has failed'. I also tried booting from the USB and upgrading that way but it suggested that if I wanted to keep my documents and programs I'd need to do it from within Windows rather than booting separately.

This is now driving me a little crazy! Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? I'd like to keep my documents, programs and settings if possible.

Answer:Update failing - Windows 10, version 1607 - Error 0x80240fff

Hello,
I suggest you start with a couple of basic checks:
- your file system
From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.

- your system files
At an admin command
sfc /scannow
Wait, and post the summary result.

Please post a screenshot of Disk Management
(Windows key + R, click Disk Management)
- use the icon to the left of the video icon above your post 'Insert Image'.

Assuming the above is ok and you have some 20Gb spare on C: and 500Mb of unallocated space on your system disk (in case a new recovery partition needs to be created) then

Do a manual upgrade. Having the iso download (as you have) has the following advantages:
- you can use it again- for other PCS, to try again,
- should you need to do an in-place upgrade repair
- for certain repair and boot options
(written to a DVD or bootable drive).

But: before you do the upgrade, use Macrium Reflect (free) (or similar) + its boot disk + large external storage for disk images and create a disk image for recovery in case anything goes wrong (and it can!).
(Macrium option 'Windows Backup')

However, I expect your USB drive will now install the new Creator's upgrade, not 1607.
When you attempt the upgrade, disconnect all unnecessary peripherals, esp. wir... Read more

I've been trying for a couple of weeks now, since I got the notification via regular windows update. ALWAYS getting a message, while pretty far along in the process, to the effect of "windows can not update/confgure- please retry". I've read a lot online and have run DISM, sfc, windows update troubleshooter, and finally got ALL to return "good" results. I then uninstalled any software or device so that everything in Device Manager is "clean", ie nothing out of the ordinary for a basic pc. I uninstalled my antivirus program and unplugged ALL usb plugs, and internet access from the machine. Also have a clean boot setup. Nevertheless, I STILL get the error message, whether doing the update via the windows update method OR via a USB stick.
Is there some other "log" I can capture and submit that can pinpoint this error, cause I truly can not think of anything else to uninstall or disable before trying the 1709 update again.

I've attached a couple of screenshots and a setupperrlog, which was from the Panther subfolder.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I have multiple Inspiron 7569 systems that do not work correctly after install the 1709 update. When waking from sleep, the display just shows random black & white lines. I also have multiple Inspiron 7353 systems that exhibit the exact same behavior with the 1709 update installed. Dell lists both models as tested for this update.
In 100% of cases:

Rebooting and using F12 to run diagnostics shows no hardware problems
Using Dell Update to check for updates says the machines are up-to-date
Rolling Windows back to 1703 immediately fixes the problem

Given the number of machines and complete consistency in behavior it seems overwhelmingly likely there's a software or driver compatibility problem here. Is the list of compatible models simply wrong? Are the software updates needed to fix this problem distributed through some channel other than the normal Dell Update? Something else?

Answer:Feature update windows 10 version 1709

This is a bit more than a simple update. It upgrades you to the Fall Creators Update, Windows 10, version 1709, os build 16299.

Where the windows update method fails, a manual upgrade using the 1709 ISO downloaded from Microsoft often works. If that too fails at least it will give more detailed error codes that will aid diagnosis.

Every time I try to install the feature update for Windows 10 feature update version 1079, it downloads fine but does not install.

After waiting for hours, I check it again, and my monitor is blank and frozen; whether I hit Enter, Spacebar, or hit the mouse twice, the screen stays the same. I then power off, power back on, and am infomed that my previous Windows version is restored.

How do I install this 1079, and is it that important? Thank you.

As the title of the topic suggests, the update is just stuck at 96%. This is the second time I'm trying to download this update. The first time it was stuck at 95% and now this.

Is there any other way to download this update. And also, how should I cancel the update cause as I'm writing this it is stuck. Or should I just wait it out for it to fail by itself?

EDIT: It got solved on its own. Will reopen a new thread if any new error occurs.

Does anyone know how long it should take for the feature update of Windows 10 version 1709 to prepare to install on a PC?

My own installation, courtesy of Windows Update, has taken about 90 minutes and is only 30% prepared to install.

Can anyone advise?

Hi All

Having a bit of difficult since the latest Windows 10 updates - Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.125). Running 32-bit OS.

Essentially my desktop icons appear to be blurred or pixelated. It's not everything, the start menu and explorer windows are clear for example.

The most useful thing I've found is that it relates to EXTENDING to a second monitor. Above is a screenshot where I have my desktop extended to a second screen. Below is when I revert to a single display.

Things I've tried:
1. Various screen resolutions (both are on their native 1920 x 1200) and scaling options.
2. Roll-back the update, but the 'Get Started' button would not do anything.
3. System Restore - it failed.
4. Uninstall Updates - the uninstall option wasn't available for all the updates.
5. Uninstall Display Driver - Restart to re-install.
6. 'Reset this PC' (remove everything), still occurs.

I'm tempted to do a full format and re-install an earlier Windows 10 from CD, but hoping to avoid it.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

I have attempted to load Essentials for Windows version 1709 numerous times on my NuVision Windows 10 tablet/PC to no avail. I have run the troubleshooter, deleted the software distribution downloads numerous times. I finally went to a Microsoft store with my NuVision and downloaded the update; however, due to time constraints I was unable to let it complete the installation. The technician said it should pick right back up where it left off after rebooting. This did not happen. An on-line chat with Microsoft recommended downloading the the Windows Installation Tool, which I did. It now has run through the download and is showing the small blue box with the Windows logo and the word Windows on my desktop, but no progress bar or any sign of progress being made. I realize this is a huge file and takes a long time to complete installation, but I wonder if this is normal for using this tool?

I just noticed there's an update waiting for me to put in a time for it to be installed. It's the Feature Update Version 1709 for Windows 10.

Is this a mandatory update, do I need it for security? I do very simple things on my computer and don't necessarily want anything more loaded if I don't need it.

Hi Dibbz.

Do you know the specific KB number being downloaded. If so you can manual download from catalog. Once you have I would enter BIOS and disable secure boot and Fast Boot (if they are there, names maybe be slightly different.)

Then disconnect from network and at command prompt(admin) enter

Net stop wuauserv
Net stop bits

Next double click the file you downloaded. After it installs reboot.

Did you ever run sfc /scannow and did it report anything.

We have this tutorial on resetting Windows Update.

Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

The above process will likely clear your update history, no big deal but didn't want a surprise.

Next thing you sould try is an inplace repair / upgrade. If you download media creation tool today it will create a USB key with 1703 on it. Again have secure boot disable and fast boot disabled in bios. I would be disconnect from Internet and skip getting updates until your update is successful.

I always recommend have your data backed up off machine and to be really prudent create an image with a tool like Macrium Reflect.

Hi, I've never had a problem updating my Win 10 Pro up til now. But for some reason, I am unable to go from current version 1703 to latest version 1709. I'm using the Windows 10 Update Assistant - which downloads the files and runs the installation. The computer then signs out and restarts - I see the blue Windows screen with the % going up... but once it reaches 18%, it flips to a black restart screen that tells me it's "Attempting to Recover..." followed by "Restoring previous version of Windows..."

And what a long process to try again all over to get to this point.

I have alot of programs installed on my PC and don't want to lose any of these... Has someone else encountered this issue, or can provide an alternate way of installing?

As a side note I have less than 12GB remaining on my C: would this be the problem????

It's very likely that it is.

Do you have a windows.old folder on your C drive and how much space does it occupy? Can't remember if checking that requires setting explorer to show hidden or protected operating system files/folders or not.

Windows 10 Feature update 1709 will not install with the error that first I need to uninstall VirtualDrive 10. The problem is I am not aware of having such a programme on my system. I uninstalled all Roxio products and also uninstalled Ashampoo burning studio 16 in case that had something to do with it. I am not aware of having any such a programme called VirtualDrive 10 on my system. I ran msinfo32 and search for the words Virtual, VirtualDrive and Virtual Drive and can't find anything. I did a registry search and there are some instances of "VirtualDrive" on my system probably relating to Roxio or maybe Faststone Virtual Drive but I am not aware of having any of these programmes actually installed. This is a great mystery to me. I am not sure where to go from here. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Sounds normal to me. Since all of your Windows Updates are up to date, there aren't updates to restart to.
Next week the first Tuesday of the month will probably have cumulative updates as well as other updates available sometime during the week and when the computer is ready to download and then install them you should see the option to update and restart shown again.

Hi,

Since the update, Microsoft is pushing strange Update Packages to me. Before the Update, everything was fine, now the Text says i.e.:
for AMD64 based systems KB4051963

but what the heck, I do have a x64 based system (Intel).

I don't now now if it is just the text what is wrong or if MS is really pushing wrong Update packages onto my computer.

Anyone having a similar issue?

Answer:Since Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (1709) - Update Packages weird

It’s OK, it’s just the way MS have worded the update. It’s fine to download & install.
amd64 based is just meaning that it is x64 based windows instead of x86 (32 bit). AMD owns the IP for 64-bit processes that we all use. Doesn't matter if it is AMD or INTEL .

Hello all.
Running windows 10 pro 64 bit.
I've updated from Version 1511 to the anniversary update, 1607.
Or at least, I thought I did.
The update went well, no hiccups, no errors. Used windows update, let it downloaded and install and rebooted. Alas, system still shows OS Version 1511.
Used update again, same thing, rebooted, 1511.
Went to the windows site, downloaded the windows10upgrade9252.exe, ran it, same exact issue, rebooted, still showing version 1511.
Error logs show no issues. Disabled all external drives, turned off anti-virus, etc, repeated, rinsed, rebooted, still version 1511.
Only think I've not done is burned an ISO to DVD and updated from that.
Any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks!

I am running Windows 7 Professional x86 32bit and my machine is having severe problems with updating.

When I run Check for Updates I get the error Code 80073712. Looking at my Update History there is a long list of updates with several fails. However when I go to Installed Updates it is empty?

I have run SURT and attach CBS files. (I have removed one old large CbsPersist to suit the file size limit)

When I run sfc /scannow I get the error message 'Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.'
I have tried a host of fixes from Google searches but none have solved the problem. Hopefully this is enough info for you to assist.

Answer:Windows Update failing with error 80073712

I have just tried to manually add some recent updates which appeared successful in Update History but when I look at Installed Updates it is still empty.

Heya,

I'm using Windows Home Professional 64 bit and have had trouble installing updates. Going through the steps nominated here produced the following:

1: Attempting to run SURT from the linked download produced an error:
Installer encountered an error: 0x80070424
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

2: sfc /scannow came back with:
Windows Resource Protection did not find and integrity violations

3: Attmepting to check for updates produced an error:
Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.

4: CBS.zip attached as instructed

Elsewhere I found a suggestion of making a copy of files, registry entries from a working install and inserting them on the busted windows, but I only have one PC running Windows 7.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

For the past 2-3 weeks any attempt at installing windows updates has been failing, with the error code 80070308. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, the updates currently trying to install are:

I've tried the generic solutions I've been able to find, Microsoft repair tools etc, with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Problem as in the subject. Sevenforums had a detailed to-do-before-posting-list for similar issues, did not see any similar details here?

For the record, I did run "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealt" and "sfc /scannow" via cmd as admin and have those logs available if needed. E.g. the CbsPersist_xxx logs are 5*125mb.

Thanks for any help,
Robin

Hello! I'm having a pretty hard time with a computer. There are six updates which are failing -

3068708
3071756
3060716
3101746
3080149
2726535
2965788

Each time I receive error code 80070490. So far I've tried sfc /scannow, tweaking, clean boot, renaming softwaredistribution folder and installing each update manually. Sometimes while installing manually it'll install for almost an hour then fail. I'm desperate here I'd really appreciate some help! Thanks in advance

Hello.

I've never posted before; I hope you can help me. But I'm not an advanced user therefore I might need some patient assistance, if possible.

Windows update is not succeeding. Getting error code 80073712 when trying to install the following updates:
KB3060716
KB3071756
KB3083992

However my Microsoft Security Essentials updates still install successfully from the Windows Update panel.

sfc /scannow for many months has been giving the following error: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."

Some background information:
1. Sony Vaio laptop (2009)
2. Original operating system was Vista, but after purchase I upgraded to Win 7 Home Professional by using Sony's upgrade disk (2010)
3. Now running Win 7 Home Professional SP 1
4. Three years ago I replaced original HDD with a Crucial M4 SSD (128GB)
5. System Restore has not worked since SSD was installed, so I don't depend on it. Therefore every month or so I clone SSD in case of a major failure.
6. I rely on the computer for my photography and for more than 10 years' worth of Quicken data and for syncing iPhone and iPad with iTunes software
7. I have already hidden some of the Windows Updates that are notorious for causing false SFC errors (e.g., KB3035583 and KB3068708.

Attachment: Windows error code screenshot. But CBS zip file is too large (44MB for folder or 10MB for single text file).

So my problem here is that the check for updates say that my computer is up to date but when ı go into the update history I can see around 15 failed updates trying to install 1703.

So I run the troubleshooter for updates and it says that there are updates pending and that it's going to add keys to the registry and stuff to download the updates in the background but after 30 minutes I can't see any internet activity in task manager and check for updates still say that my computer is up to date.

Hey everyone,
I recently went from windows 8.1 to windows 10, before resetting my computer to Windows 10 (build 10240). Everything was working fine and dandy until trying to install update KB3074683. The update downloads and says it installs but the computer needs to be restarted. Everytime I restart the computer, it works on the updates until 17% or 18%, before restarting. I then get "We couldn't complete the update, Undoing Changes".
I have run sfc/ scannow, which fixed some issues the first time through, but has not encountered any problems on the last 3 runs. Windows Update Troubleshooter also isn't finding errors.
After some extensive Googling, it seems that this issue is pretty rare. I have seen people claiming that it only affects users with Nvidia drivers (I have an EVGA GTX 960 video card). Appartently it's an issue with a ProfileImagePath involving "UpdatusUser". I looked in my regedit, and didn't see any "wrong" profiles. I have LocalService, NetworkService, Mike, and one that has a path %systemroot%\system32\config\systemprofile.
When looking in Event Viewer, this is what I see: "Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070011: Security Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3074683)."
I've also tried downloading this update manually and installing it that way.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Hey guys, I've read through the post guidance and done everything as requested. Attached is my CBS folder zipped and I've run SURT and SFC scan.

I've been trying to install 3 updates through windows Update. I don't have automatic updates, I check and do them manually, always have. I've tried downloading and installing all three seperately from Microsoft, tried updating one by one, no luck in any order. They all fail after reboot with message "Failed to install, reverting." bla bla.

All three give me the error message 8007054F only.

I really hope you can give me some advice on this, one of the updates is a key Dx11 update that's stopping me playing games I've purchased.

Also noted is other updates are fine, even had a fresh one this morning and it installed without an issue, it's just these three specific ones and I'm stumped.

Updates are:
Important: kb2868626
Optional: kb2670838
kb2830477

Thanks in advance for any help.

PS: CBS folder had cab files within pushing it over the limit for upload, I've removed these and left the log files. Let me know if you need the untouched CBS folder and I will upload to dropbox for you.

Answer:Windows Update (3) Failing install after reboot - error 8007054F

You have some errors in the CBS background that I've never seen before - hopefully there will be some supporting information in the event logs.

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

So here goes my story.

After +- 3 years of use I decided to format and to do a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium through an USB install. All goes well and the first thing I do is updating by using Windows update. All updates succeed and I install all other programs needed for personal use. But along the way my pc kept freezing (especially during big downloads through Steam, watching Flash Player videos in my browser or some trivial other things) so I decided to restart my pc. Blue screen appeared and I started everything over: Format > Clean install > updates.
But now the updates didn't work as before and get stuck around 19-20 of them failing. The error code been given every time is "Code 800706F7" I've done several things recommended on this forum and here are the results:

1. Ran the SURT tool and it installed Hotfix for Windows (KB947821)

2. Ran a SFC scan

3. Used the Fix It tool from MS to no avail

4. Tried some other things I can't remember proposed on other forums but reverted with a system recovery point when they didn't work

Answer:Failing updates in Windows update (Error: Code 800706F7)

The CheckSUR log is incomplete - and there are no apparent problems in the CBS log or SFC scan.

Please upload the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file to a replay, and run the CheckSUR tool again - post the CheckSUR.log and CheckSURPersist.log files.

I recently put together my first custom build and I am running into a very frustrating issue with the "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2937610)".

Error Code: 800B0100

Normally I'm the kind of person that likes to figure things like this out on my own using Google and reading over old posts in forums like this, however I have exhausted my resources as well as my patience..

Here is what I've tried (in no specific order):
Reformat SSD, reinstall Windows 7, installing updates immediately after.
Ran sfc /scannow, it didn't find anything wrong.
Ran MS Fixit, tried installing update with no luck, restarted, tried agian (did this twice)
Ran Windows Update Readiness Tool, tried installing update with no luck, restarted, tried again (twice)
Went to control panel > Programs and Features > Repaired .NET framework 4.5.1, didn't help
Uninstalled .Net Framework 4.5.1 and let windows update reinstall it, didn't help
Used the Microsoft .NET repair tool, didn't help
Used d7 (tech tool, I work at a pc repair shop) to repair Windows Update
Did a clean boot using msconfig method
CHKDSK found no problems
I even manually downloaded the update from MS and ran the installer. It ended with "Some updates were not installed", and listed the update as not installed.

I have had my Dell 8700 for little over a year and have had problems from the beginning.  I am 72 years old, and I am at my wits end!!!

A hard drive was replaced in the summer of 2015, but I have still had problems with the computer shutting down and my having to refresh it to factory setting.

I thought updating to Windows 10 would solve some problems, and I did this in October, 2015.  Everything was fine until a couple of months ago.  The end result was when I tried to refresh the computer to factory defaults, it went back to 8.0 or 8.1, and I evidently lost something in the process.
Now, I cannot update to Windows 10 and when I tried to resinstall the Dell Operating System, I get for both:  "WE COULDN'T UPDATE THE SYSTEM RESERVED PARTITION."
I DO HAVE A SYSTEM BACKUP ON 20 CDS (MADE WHEN I HAD WINDOWS 10).  Could I reinstall the system with these backupdisks?  How do I do that?  I also have a Dell 2 Boot USP stick, I have a recovery stick, too, but it semed that when I used this, I received a message that not all files were recovered
What should I do at this point?

Answer:Error message when trying to update to Windows 10 or to reinstall operating system 8.1: We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

On MBR disk, Windows 10 requires a 500MB system reserved partition, while 100MB in Windows 7, so you can try to extend system reserved partition.
In disk management, you can only extend partition using the unallocated space next to its right side. so even if you shrink D: drive, the option to extend the efi partition is still grayed out. My suggestion is to use a third party software, AOMEI Partition Assistant, both the standard (free) or the Professional(paid) version can extend partition as long as there is unallocated space on that hard drive. to see more information read:

Samsung Galaxy Note
KIES
Hi

My Windows 7 (x64) PC has been working fine until recently. The trouble started with attempting to use my Samsung Galaxy Note and sync using Samsung's KIES using a USB connection.

It was a bit glitchy but I finally got the thing to sync. But today it didnt want to know and kept saying that my phone had "No SIM card installed", which is not true as the phone was picking up a mobile phone signal fine.

In Task Manager I discovered a thing called TrustedInstaller.exe which is persistently taking up 23 to 25% of my processor. I looked online and discovered that it was the correct size and that it was something to do with Windows Updates. So ran Windows Update and discovered that it wanted to install about 11 patches. This is odd because I run Windows Update every 1 or 2 weeks.

Error code: 8007371B
Error code: 800736B3

But when I ran Windows Update two things failed. So I executed a Restore Point to 2 days ago and I ran Window Update again. Same problem except that now there are THREE error codes:

Error code: 8007371B

I have tried for many months to fix this issue of installing SP1 for Windows 7 64 Bit version and I have continued to have issues. I found this forum and I need help on fixing it.

I get this error:
Window Update failing error code 800736B3

Thank you for any help you can provide

Answer:Windows 7 not updating to SP1 Window Update failing error code 800736B

Hello and welcome Greg now I am assuming you have 7 onboard and have been using it - or is it a new install and you are trying to get SP1 installed?.

If it is the latter then it is easily fixed using this tutorial
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
If you have data on the install then if it isn't too much just back it up and do the tutorial.

Just one thing make sure you only pick the version you have an activation code for as trying to get a higher version installed will end in grief.

Ever since it came out, my computer has been unable to install SP1. It has never really been an issue before, but I now have a program that won't install because it requires SP1.

The error message I am getting is 0x800f0900

I have run the System Update Readiness Tool (Windows6.1-KB947821-v31-x86.msu)

I have also run sfc /scannow
It reports that "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."

I have attached the log files as instructed.

Please help! Thank you.

Trying to update an existing Win10 1703 to 1709. It fails consistenly with the following error messages:
=======================
We couldn't install Windows 10
We've set your PC back to the way it was right before you started installing Windows 10

0xC1900101 - 0x20017

The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation
=======================

Per this web page, the 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 error code means that there is a problem with a driver, and recommends checking the setupact.log and setuperr.log files for additional information. Looking at these files, I can't figure out what's going wrong. I'm attaching them to this post in hopes that someone else can glean some info from them.

I've updated all the drivers on the machine and the problem persists. I have also done the following in an attempt to get past this problem:
- ran chkdsk c: /f
- ran disk cleanup utility
- tried the update from a clean boot

I'm attaching several files in hope that someone can provide some assistance with this issue.

Every time I try to update W 8 I get the error message saying the updates failed and the purple screen that says it is "reverting update". I thought it might be multiple updtaes at once cusing the problem so I tried individual updates at a time. Also disabled AV. Ran update repair. Nothing works.
This after I tried the W8 to 8.1 upgrade and it failed. So I thought I would need to make sure updates were complete. Thus the issue with updates. Ultimately I will try and install the 8.1 os after all this. Any suggestions.
Thanks folks!

so id just like to point out this must be the 9th time now that a creator update has tried to install but always failed at the 32% mark. in this cause my previous thread > 1703

1703 for me could never install. after numerous attempts from sfc, dism, disabling fast and secure boot, media creation tool etc. its never installed

today i was forced to get 1709. and i knew from the get go it wouldn't install. and i was correct. completely halts at 33% with no hard drive activity.

at this point i just want the creator updates and the newer ones to stop at least not until i get stuff backed up and ready for a clean install if by some chance that does work and i dont find myself in another issue.

ive tried so many different things from removing keyboard and mouse, ethernet, programs defraggler, f.lux etc etc. nothing works.

anyone able to help here ???

I've tried many times to install the latest critical BIOS update, using Lenovo System Update, and every time it attempts to, it fails after telling me in a popup that I need to turn the system off and make sure I have a fully charged battery. I rarely rely on battery power and use AC primarily, and I used Power Manager twice to do a full reset, just in case. I can't believe I would need to buy a new battery in order to install it, because the battery works just fine. I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit), and exhausted every other update or option, unless there's something else I'm not aware of. Is it just the software toying with me?

Hi all, I have a Inspiron 5567, i5-7200U, 8GB ram laptop. Before the update to Windows 10 build 1709, I could connect the laptop to the TV via HDMI without any issues. Since the update, all I get when I connect is an error message on the TV stating Resolution unsupported, change resolution on external device. The laptop will detect that the TV is connected and tells me that two monitors are connected if I go into the graphics driver properties.
I have tried a different HDMI cable, a different HDMI port on the TV, made sure all of the drivers are up to date, changed resolutions, changed display output type (extend, duplicate etc), checked for any device errors, but no luck. I have even got Microsoft involved to see if they could fix it, but no joy there either.
I have noticed that the Intel driver is a little ahead of the Dell/Intel driver version installed on my laptop, but when I go to install that, it fails saying that I need to go back to the manufacturer (Dell). I have even contacted my TV manufacturer, and they had no help either.
I'm 100% convinced that the latest 1709 build broke something, as I can roll back to the previous build and it works again. Unfortunately, I can't check against the latest Intel video driver, because it won't let me, even if I uninstall it first.
Is there anyone else having this issue? is there anything else I can try?

Audio devices (recording/playback) are not showing up in the sound menu. Even the generic 'speaker' is gone! Realtek audio also seems to have disappeared from my device manager, and will not reappear after reinstallation (whether that be from mobo manufacturer, or from Realtek themselves). This first occurred after my update to 1709, but it appears not to have created a restore point before the update, so I can't fall back on that, either.

Any help you guys could render would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Audio I/O Issue with Windows Update 1709

Hi there

I had a similar sound problem a few days ago on my Windows 7 machine .....
1) The speaker icon in the tray had a red x on it and said that no audio device was installed.
2) The entries under Sound in the device manager had the yellow warning symbol.
The entries warned of a Code 19 fault .. an incomplete or damaged registry.
3) Reinstalling and updating drivers did no good.
In my case the answer was to ...
4) Right click and uninstall all those entries under Sound in the Device Manager. They'll re-populate later.
5) Navigate in the Registry to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\, find and right click on the folder {4d36e96c-e325-11ce- bfc1-08002be10318} and click on Export so as to back it up. You'll then be able to Import it back later if something goes wrong.
6) Highlight the folder and if you see any entry for UpperFilters, right click on it and delete it. You may have to do this for any LowerFilters entry as well.
7) Exit out of the Registry, then restart your machine.
8) In my case everything miraculously reappeared in working order.

I have the same problem. However, I own a Lenovo 720-13 IKB.
I updated BIOS and firmware which I found on the lenovo support website. Still it shows error code 31 for that synaptics WBDI - SGX device.

I also uninstalled the device (with deleting the drivers), rebooted and tried to install the drivers from lenovo page, or by using the windows update. Still error 31.

Any other ideas?

thanks

I am having issues updating from 1703 to 1709, and I could use some help.

I used the native Windows Update tool to download 1709. I restarted my computer when prompted to begin the installation. I got about a quarter of the way through the installation when I got a blue screen. The computer then reverted back to 1703 automatically.

I used the Windows 10 upgrade assistant tool, but that resulted in the same blue screen. (Also, I noticed that the tool mentioned that my computer was running a much older version of Windows 10 than is actually installed.)

I used the Windows Update Troubleshooter, which seems to have cleared most of the files in the "SoftwareDistribution" folder. After using the Update Troubleshooter, I tried using the upgrade assistant tool again, but it still failed. Now, when I used the native update tool, it says that my system is up to date. But that is impossible because I still haven't been able to download and install 1709.

Any suggestions? I have an HP Spectre x360.

Hi, please post a screenshot of your partitions using Minitool partition wizard.

To post a screenshot please use the Insert Image icon above your post to the left of the video icon. Thanks.

Please post your windows build:
Windows key + R, winver
Also a screenshot of your Update History.

What is your disk type? (HDD, SSD etc?)

Please make sure you have around 20Gb free on your C: drive, and 500Mb of unallocated space on your system drive.

1. First check your disk:
Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) and make sure all disks are reported as good.
If not, do not continue, and post back .

2. Now check your file system:

From an admin command or powershell prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
Read Chkdsk Log in Event Viewer in Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials
or
How to read Event Viewer log for Chkdsk in Windows 10 [Tip] | Reviews, news, tips, and tricks | dotTechdotTech
or
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.

3. Now check your system files. From an admin command prompt
SFC /SCANNOW
and post the result.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.

Hi there
I KNOW this must be a 1709 update -- I have several Windows machines with earlier releases than 1709 and they all work.

With 1709 my NON Windows devices cannot access Windows shares even though they see the computer and can ping it. Connecting via IP also doesn't work.

I read somewhere that Ms has now disabled SMB or SAMBA access from Non Windows devices --thanks Ms !!!! now half the planets devices won't work any more !!!

Why on earth does Ms do things like this --break perfectly good functioning systems --or at least give some sort of warning so people can look for alternatives.

I certainly don't want to manually mount a whole slew of CIF partitions on each android / linux / NAS device I'm using.

Anybody got this stuff working

I tried also accesssing via CIFS -- still not working

screenshot below

somebody mentioned something about re-install "certificate" bit I haven't got a clue what that means or how to do it.

Note Windows TO Windows is fine as is Window TO the android / Linux devices. It's the Android / linux devices TO Windows that's the problem.

I have a load of media files on a Windows share which I want my media server (KODI) on the non Windows device to stream. It's an amazon fire stick (the small one) so I can't locally attach the media files !!! - In any case the whole point is to stream over a network anyway.

Cheers
jimbo

I have just installed Windows Update 1709 and ended up with a Black Screen.
I'm using a Dell Inspiron 660 which came with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO graphics card. After a lot of worry I decided to connect a second monitor to the VGA scocket on the motherboard  which sprang into life immeadiately.
I then trawled the internet looking for problems with ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO (AMD) and the latest Windows update, there are many many instances. The problem is with the driver, Device Manager shows "No driver installed for this device", although looking at the driver tab I have a driver dated 10/10/17 version 23.20.768.9. I downloaded 2 updates from and AMD website neither were successful.
I've tried rolling back the driver and deinstalling the device to no avail.
I'm still using the onboad VGA rather than the DVI-D socket on the ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO.
So it looks like the ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO is now obsolete as far as using it with Windows 10 is concerned.
I was hoping to find a solution on the DELL website as the card was supplied by DELL with the PC.

Forget about Windows Update.
Use this Media Creation Tool link :
https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/soft...load/windows10

Click the Update Now button.
That will bring up the Update Assistant to check if your device is ready for update.
If approved, it will start downloading the updates etc. Just follow the prompts from then on.

Good Day Everyone,

It has been a long time since I posted here, mostly due to major life changes, loss of jobs, etc. I wish I could be more active.

In any case. The issue I am having is 1 of my 3 media machines is not working correctly and I cannot figure out what changed. I have 3 Dell 790's (yes I know they are old but they do the job) connected via DisplayPort to HDMI to TVs. All have worked perfectly for the last 3 years and for the last 2 years on Windows 10. 2 days ago I took the 1709 update for all of them, they are on 365x24x7 and are in some state of use throughout the day. All 3 machines took the update fine, all machines work very well. Except, 1 of the machines, when I turn off the TV and come back later the screen is blank, blank like when you are logging into Windows 10 on a 2 monitor system and the second monitor is blank. The machine is running, and everything is working, just the video is gone. I have done a bunch of testing and the machine is working, if I pause a video, turn off the TV and then turn it back on the screen is blank but pressing a key the video starts playing and you can hear the sound. The computer is fine, it is working, just no video. I have tried a bunch of tips in the forum but nothing has worked. BTW swapped the TV just incase, still has the same problem. I have done all the other normal things, scan for viruses, disk corruption, registry issues, etc.

All machines are:

Only after about half an hour appears this text box and Windows 10 can be started. We have returned to the previous update and installed again the 1709 update, but the problem appears again.

[Moreover this update marks the checkbox labeled "turn on fast startup" (in: Power Options, choose what the power button does, change settings that are currently unavailable), which prevents Windows 10 to shut down.]

Thanks for any help you can give.

I have a Dell XPS L501X laptop that has been working very well with windows 10, until the latest upgrade. My desktop generally has the issues with Microsoft upgrades but this time it did the upgrade just fine and my laptop is having the issues.
I?ve tried all of the advice that I could find to get it to work but nothing works. After the update is installed and the computer is restarted it does one reboot and then when it tries to do the second it gets to 33% and the spinning balls stop spinning and it hangs there forever (I let it go for 12 hours before resetting it). After resetting it restores the previous system and starts up but after a while it forces the update again and the same thing happens.
Any thought/advice?
Thanks
