I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
How to Customize the Details Pane in Windows 10
1 more repliesI googled the problem and NOTHING!!!!! many information NO LONGER is displayed in my details pane in Windows Explorer!!!!!! song length is one of them gone missing (& total length if multiple files are selected) and I use that frequently!!!!! it ONLY shows basic information now such as artist, title, album, and genre!!! but total length is GONE!!! also MANY UNRELATED INFORMATION is now in the details pane for media files!!!!!!! mood of music has been added (never heard of that tag), song rating, and composer now have been added!!!! it even displays ALL THIS SAME INFORMATION for WAV files when it used to be ONLY file size and length for WAV files!!!!!!! WAV is NOT capable of tags so I don't know why Windows Explorer shows this information for WAV files!!!!!!
HOW DO I GET MY DETAILS PANE BACK TO NORMAL???????
Can you post a screen shot of what you are seeing?
12 more repliesI have this problem with the vista details pane and I have not been able to find any solution. I have Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium version. The problem is that:
1. My details pane is missing a lot of properties/tags . Only ones that are appearing are file date, file name, dated created.
2. When I go into a MP3 folder, same thing happens as I described in 1. Just the 4 tags appear and I don?t get any other tags that used to be there like artist name, rating, title, etc.
3. I cannot edit any Tag in the details pane. When everthing was working fine, I could go in the MP3 folder , I could edit the title, ratings etc. and Save it. But now I can?t do anything, the save button does not appear and the tags don?t go in edit mode.
Up till now I have tried the following solutions:
1. I have reset all the folder options in Vista by going to Folders/tools/reset defaults. (did not work)
2. After resetting the folders, I have also turned on the details pane option under Organize/Layout and the details under the Views. (did not work)
3. Under View, in the tool bar, I went to Customize This Folder and chose the Music Folder Option, All Items etc. (did not work)
4. Then on the Microsoft site, I found this solution ? Open Documents by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Documents., and click a file to apply properties. Then In the Details pane at the bottom of the folder window, click the property that you want to change, type the new property in the Tags.? But it did not work ei... Read more
hello
Is this only for mp3 files?
You said "when everything was working fine" what happened? did you download a new program? (itunes, vlc)
If it wasn't that long ago, you could try system restore.
Did you use a "registry cleaner" or an "optimizer"?
On the properties window, general tab, what is it set to "open with"?
good luck
I recently used IOBit uninstaller to remove all traces of a program from the registry. I'm assuming it removed something that caused this issue, because after I used it all my program information in Add/Remove programs was missing. However, other users on my PC show all information in Add/Remove programs. Is there a way to repopulate this or would I have to create a new user? Thank you
Use a restore point before this happened.
5 more repliesHow can I re-associate .mp4 files with video details displaying in the Details Pane? After installing the K-lite codecs pack, my mp4's all began displaying in the details pane as audio files (Album, Artist etc) and no longer displays the important video default details (size, frame height, bitrate etc). I assume it was because of incorrectly associating file types when installing the codecs (even though wmv's, avi's are still correct), so I uninstalled the codecs but the Details categories remain for typical audio files. I've exhausted The Google and I'm stumped... any help? (Win7, 32-bit with VLC as my default player) Thanks!

Hi,I'm using Windows 7 Professional x64. When I use Windows Explorer to view image files (jpg, png, etc.), I would like to see each image's dimensions listed in the Details Pane (when it's set to view the images as Icons/Thumbnails, rather than Details). However, the only details that show up in the Details Pane are Name, Type, Date Created, Date Modified, and Size. This is the case even though:* I've checked 'Dimensions' in the 'Choose Details' options* The folder is already categorized/optimized for 'Pictures'* Other folders show the other details I want -- i.e., the Details Pane for my 'Videos' folder shows Length, Frame Width, Frame Height, and other details that I've chosenAny suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
I think you are asking Windows Explorer to do more than it is intended to do.Try using infranview to view the folder. Get infranview at the link below.http://www.irfanview.com/

3 more repliesSo, I upgraded directly from XP, I hated Vista and I hated Win7. So. It's only natural that the omittance of the details + preview hybrid pane being missing causes me a lot of mental insecurity and overall discomfort (not literally :P ).

Thanks!
How can I change the color of details pane in Windows Explorer? I'm trying to modify Soft7 visual style to suite my needs.. I've found allmost everything else, but I can't find the way to change this. Is it a bitmap in shellstyle.dll, msstyles, or something else?
A fairly simple question:
Has anyone tried to (or found a third party app) that can put the details pane back to the bottom of the File Explorer windows, like it was in 7. It was of great use to me when reading tags and other information. In 8, it just takes needless width space from the windows.
Shell32.dll but modifyng it crashes windows 8 (at least in CP/RP), havent tried in RTM yet.

Not sure how you did that but i can not replicate it at all.

Is there a way to do something similar for folders? Currently, the only info displayed in the details pane when a folder is selected is Date modified, and Availability. I would like to add other details to this pane (Size, Date created etc...). Is this possible?
is there anyway i can display my details panel on the bottom ? like it used to on win 7?
because windows 10 shows it on right hand side, but it's just taking too much of the space on my screen, it's really inconvenient when you open 2 folders and snap to sides and modify files.
Was just thinking the same thing. Here is how my Win7 workstation looks (about perfect to me! Note Classic Explorer is also running).

I have a video folder that I would like organize by genre (i.e.: action, drama, comedy, etc.) but Windows isn't allowing me to add or change existing file details.
I consulted this document and realized the following applies to my situation.

Click Here to download abcAVI, save it to your desktop, once download is complete run installer => Open up abcAVI => On the top menu bar the first icon will let you select one movie file to edit, the second icon will allow you to select a whole directory to edit all movie files in it, once in the movie just go down to Genre and choose the one you would like or type in your own => Click Save once done

More repliesI just did a reinstall of XP Pro and am having trouble with video files being "in use" when trying to move/delete them (only a several second lag, but it is annoying me). It has to do with a preview being generated in the details pane in the bottom left corner of Explorer. I eventually figured out how to turn off the preview option on my last install but have forgotten how I did it. Under folder options I have "do not cache thumbnails" unchecked. Is this the setting I need to change? Or is it somewhere else? It seems to me I need an option to not show a preview in the details pane.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I haven't done an XP install, but I have had problems like yours. Here is how I fix them without reinstalling, in case it may help? (The instructions may be different for XP.)
Thumbnails are used as icons when the folder is in Thumbnail view. This is usually not the problem, since they are usually cached after the first time. I turn them off by getting the Properties window for that folder. (I just go to the parent folder and right-click on the folder there, then choose Properties.) Then in one of the tabs, I find the Enable thumbnail view option and uncheck it. But, again, this is probably not the problem.
The preview thumbnail (actually, the whole details pane) can be turned off by unchecking View as Web Page in the View menu in one folder. Or, you can turn it off for all folders by going to View menu > Folder Options > General tab > choose Custom, then click the Settings button and in the View Web Content in Folders section, choose Only for folders where I select "as Web Page" [View menu]
If I want the details pane, but not the preview, I edit the HTML of the window. I don't know if you want to try this, it can be confusing, but here's what I do, just in case:
I right-click on the detail pane (or you can use the View menu), and click Customize this Folder... then choose create or edit HTML document. This allows me to customize that details pane. To remove only the worst case files from the preview, I see if I can find "var w... Read more

Recently I was trying to add comments to movie folders so that i can keep a brief description about it when i click on it. It was easy to add comment then i had a bit trouble to get the comment getting displayed in the details pane...after playing with the registry for a while i got that solved as well.
Now I ended up with a problem where the comment being displayed eds with just some 3 or 4 words with the remaining given in dots (...) and I get a full display of it when i hover the mouse over it, which obviously goes way in 5 seconds or so.
So what i need is to find a way to expand what ever that is shown in the details pane so that it shows the entire content in consecutive lines without being restricted to one line (without having to hover a mouse)
You might get a picture of it if you have a small details pane on the right and make it show your processor details when you open thisPC.
This is what i mean, if no one gets it :P

For some reason when I go to the layout menu in Vista Exploer (Explorer --> Organize --> Layout) there is no details pane listed. Is there a way to get that back?

Hi, the details pane is not under organise it's under View.
2 more repliesHi,
please see my screenshot, my details pane is not showing any codec information.
I had to reinstall after a windows 10 update killed my computer (update loop bsod - I can't believe updates are stilling crashing computers).
before the details pane use to show codec info like:
Video Codec, example VC-1, AVCAudio Codec, example DTS, TrueHD
how do I get it to show?
One way is to use this
File Metadata - Home
and use its file association manager to enable it for extensions you're interested in.
The details pane used to show a thumbnail preview of the first page of Adobe Acrobat documents when I selected the file. This was extremely helpful to me due to the nature of how I file these documents, as I didn't have to open the files - I only had to select them. As of this morning, the details pane only shows the name of the document and does not display a thumbnail preview of the first page. How do I fix this? Thank you!!

Once installed, go to the details tab of a files properties, and you can edit them as you wish, which will also appear at the bottom of Windows Explorer.
Hello.
I've been trying to re-organize my photo collection. Previously, I had been using Windows Live Photo Gallery to tag my photos, and admittedly it was convenient. Recently, though, the program has gone on the fritz to where thumbnails aren't loading so it's harder to differentiate photos simply by the file name in cases where I have a lot of photos of the same group or folder. While I've tried a lot of troubleshooting to get the thumbnails to load, and would gladly take advice on that issue, in the meantime I'm trying to accomplish the same thing using the details pane in explorer.
When I highlight a photo right now, most file types load the date stamp, tags, rating, author(s) and comments properties in the details pane. However, I'd like to edit the people properties so I can tag individuals in the photos. I have not seen a way to easily do that short of using other software (such as Photo Gallery).
Does anyone know if there's a way to do this through explorer or will it require a separate application?
You are talking about edit Exif data. There are programs out there that allow you to do that.
4 more repliesIs there any way to permanently remove or disable all of the various "views" in the Windows 7 Navigation Pane *except* for Details? If a subdirectory contains audio files I *never* want to see "Album" or "Artist" or any of the rest of that garbage. If the subdirectory contains an image file I *never* want to see a thumbnail of images. If I need more information about a file I'll right click on it and select Properties, thankyewverymuch!
In short, when I click anywhere in the left or right panel in the Navigation Pane I never want to see *ANYTHING* except the file name, type, size, and date modified. If it isn't a file (e.g. Network, etc.) just show me a computer or device name, not some massive image of a router or other waste of my time.

I want to make some specific changes to the default Preview Details string for picture files in Windows Explorer. I have found an excellent write-up on how to edit that string using regedit, but the author was only interested in the specific around music. In the attached picture, I show the file properties/attributes that I am interested in placing in the Detail Pane. The current edited string is shown below.
prop:System.Photo.DateTaken;System.Keywords;System.Title;System.Subject;
*System.Photo.PeopleNames;*System.Contact.Location;*System.Contact.StateOrProvince;
*System.Contact.Country;System.Comment;*System.DateCreated;*System.DateModified;
*System.SharedWith
As you can see, some work, others don't. Is there a comprehensive list of these properties and their syntax in the form
(*)System.xxxx.yyy
that one can refer to when modifying the string?
Hi,
I must apologize in advance for any forthcoming ignorance, as I am a forum newbie. Using Win8.1, I am trying to relocate the Details Pane in Explorer from the space wasting right side to the well fitting & familiar bottom.
Fix I found is here: How To Move Details Pane To The Bottom In Windows 8.1 File Explorer
Has anyone had any experience in general with this tool? Haven't been able to find out any more jnfo either way othter than the link.
Thank you in advance for your time.
Better use Old New Explorer:
OldNewExplorer - make your 8.1/10 explorer work like Win7/8 one - StartIsBack+ - MSFN Forum
It has some other features but the one you are searching for is one of them. It doesn't always make the hack but it is much safer than patching the shell32.dll

Win 8 Enterprise x64, non local administrator user.
I can not change music's rating or other stuff from details pane. In local administrator user I can. Should I change my account type or any help?
Also the music is at external HDD
Thanks
Check that your files haven't suddenly become "Read-only".
Also try running CHKDSK to check the drive.
After I've used one of my external HDDs at TAFE, my PC claims that it is "Read-only" and it takes several CHKDSK commands to fix the problem.
Of course after CHKDSK is finished, it says that there weren't any problems.
In Windows 8.1, I want to customize the properties displayed in the Details Pane for ALL of my MP3s . (That is, I do not mean removing/modifying the properties on an individual MP3/music file. I mean choosing what gets displayed in the Details Pane for all music files.)
In XP (which I love and miss), I do believe the Details Pane could be customized easily, but I see no way to do that in 8.1. For example, I want to display Artist, Album, Year, Track #, Size, and Duration ONLY. How do I remove Rating, Genre, Title, etc.
Also, can I remove the "breadcrumbs" (...) and have the full line displayed? In XP, everything was displayed. Now you have to hover over something to see it. How is that better?
I miss XP's file manager!
I do not want to see a large space to the right of my photos & files in file explorer. I want to see the full space filled with them. I have been searching for hours for the mythical "General Tab" which supposedly contains the key but it doesn't seem to exist. Does anyone know if this display is possible?

I was wondering if you know if there is a way to improve Vista's Video Preview on the Details Pane.
The problem I see is that Vista shows the very 1st second of video, while Windows 7 shows the 4th. That's why many of the video previews on the details pane show a black screen on vista instead of actual video.
If anyone else has the answer, I will be really grateful.
I guess you could edit that through the registry, but believe me, lol, to be honest Idk...

Hi, I just re-installed windows 7 on my desktop pc and have a question about the settings of the details pane in windows explorer (the one that appears and the bottom when you select a file). Previously when I selected video files (.mp4, .avi and .mkv) I would get the details at the bottom, the video frame width and height, size of file etc.. but since I reinstalled I don't get these details when I select video files. I know its only a small problem but I work with video files a lot and have gotten used to seeing the resolution of files without having to open them. Does anyone know how I can get the details pane to show these details again? At the moment it only displays the video size, name and state.
Here is a screen-shot of the details pane for a selected .mkv video file on my laptop, this is what I want it to display on my pc.
Is the folder set as a "Video" type?
Look at the properties of the folder, and there you will see a drop down list for the type.
I would like to see more audio details in win10 file explorer preview pane, especially the channels and bitrate for movies in the *.mkv format. (I would like to see if they include DTS 5.1, languages, subtittles etc.)
Before the latest creators update, this information was shown in the preview pane (along other video-details). Now I can't get it back. Icaros doesn't seem to help in this case.
What can I do?
Try MediaTab (free)
etc
Every song I play, the same picture for the "album" shows up every time (mine is the A Static Lullaby album cover). What is wrong and how do I change this?
Hi Allen,
When you use the term "media information pane", you're talking about the Library screen display... the pane below the center Details pane... the pane where information from your currently selected online store is displayed? Right?
Left click on "Help", at the top of your screen, to trigger the drop down menu. Click on the Contents and Index. Up comes the 2 page help screen. On the left side, on the "search" page, enter "media information pane" and click on the display button. Check out the entry on the right side page...
What happens when you hide the pane, by clicking on the "More Info" button?
Also, there is a link at the bottom of the page, "To update information about an album". Does it help?

Hello, I was wondering about the possibility to increase the images thumbnail size on the details pane in file explorer, and to make the panel maller than allowed by default. Is it possible?
Thank you for your help
There seems to be a minimum size which is pre-defined, you cannot make it smaller. The preview and details pane size is set by the DetailsContainerSizer binary value in the Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Modules\GlobalSettings\Sizer
I do not know of way to make the thumbnail larger in the details pane. It is larger in the preview pane.

3 more repliesHey,
I have a question about the details pane.
Can I add a few more parameters to the little preview window on the right? (For music like BPM, Publisher etc)
Having decided to use Vista's Mail/Contacts/Calendar, I was quite excited to see that when I hovered the mouse over the Extra Large Icon of a contact, all of his details appeared in the right hand side preview panel ...... for a moment!
Now that capability has disappeared altogether!
I have checked under Organize x Layout that the Preview Panel is checked but it remains blank all the time!
What have I (it) done to remove this handy feature?
........... but there's more ................. the contact's name comes up say michael smith.contact but I only want Michael Smith to show (not the word "contact").
When I try to rename it to a straight Michael Smith, Vista gets all upset and starts tellimg me that it probably won't work anymore if I persist!!
There's gotta be a way to rename these contacts!
I have Windows 7, Internet Explorer 8 and office 2010. I have the research feature in Office but do not have the Research pane on my internet explorer toolbar. I have tried to manage add-ons and it is not listed as an add-on. How can I get it?
You mean the search box in which you would enter a search word or phrase for an Internet search, right? It normally appears to the right of the web address box. Is your web address box displayed? How much width of your browser window does it use when your browser window is maximized? What do you see at the right of the web address box?
9 more repliesI don't need to access my Contacts list in Office 2010 very often. I just noticed today that the text entry for Contacts was missing from the Navigation pane. Instead, there was a small icon in the lower right corner of the pane for Contacts. On all my other machines the text entry is present. I've no idea when the text was replace by the icon or why -- it could have been weeks ago.
Will someone please tell me how to get the text entry back?
Thank you very much
Hi.
Could you try clicking that small arrow which says Configure buttons and check if contacts is tick marked?
Attachment as reference.
Another thing could be the height was pushed downwards. Drag it up and see if the text comes back.

Hi
I think the option that you are after is called "Common Tasks"
To enable this do the following
Open my computer and select TOOLS | FOLDER OPTIONS
From here look in GENERAL, under "Tasks" ensure that "Show common tasks in folders" is selected.
This should restore the functionality you are after

Has any of you ever come across this problem? My preview pane is not displaying anything... I just noticed that the preview pane is not working when a supported file is clicked. When a file is not selected it shows a "No preview available" line but when you select a file, it is blank as you can see from the screenshot.
(I apologize for this I didn't know how else to demonstrate the problem...)
The problem is not with certain file types, like in the screenshot it is MP3s but all the other media files, the preview pane is entirely missing. I think there is a problem with the media player rich preview handler. The image files, such as jpg png etc, are still displayed... For example, if the thumbnails are turned on, you can see the preview of the image in the pane, if the thumbnails are turned off, then you see the enlarged icon of the file type in the pane, which is normal behavior.
Anything else like txt, video, pdf, a file type that would show normally (with rich preview handler thing) shows a blank in the pane. I can double click the blank preview pane and fire up the program to view the media file... I messed with a little utility called Preview Handler Association Editor this weekend, but didn't change much around, first I thought, that messed it up. I had assigned picture file types to media player rich preview handler so I didn't have to turn on the thumbnails to see a preview of pics. I reverted back to normal but that didn't fix the prob... Read more
Just a few random ideas I have which may or may not work.
1. Run System File Checker.
2. Ensure Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > Views > Show Preview Handlers in Preview Pane is checked.
3. Pls see if this app helps you in anyway.
Hope something helps...
Windows XP. Outlook 2002. Preview Pane is missing from the View tab in the new folders that I created.
I had a personal folder(.pst) created a while ago and I used to be able to view the messages for that folder in the Preview Pane window. The folder got too big and I had to chop it to smaller folders. In doing so, The top folders that I created do not have Preview Pane show up in View tab. But, when I moved the existing sub-folders under the new folders or create sub-folders under the new folders, these sub-folders have Preview Pane.
The BAD solution was to create a TEMP sub-folder under each high level folder and forward all the message to it, but I would rather send all my message to the top folders.
Thanks in advance,
pongBeirut
Hello, just got Windows 10 Technical Preview and was a little confused by this... For some reason three of my hard drives are visible in the navigation pane as root items down the left, but the other four are not... What makes those three so special? How do I customize this?
Are they all Internal Disks? Or are the ones showing on the left External Hard Drives?
6 more repliesWhen I right click on start and select Explore in my Windows ME computer, I get two panes: the left one is COMPLETELY EMPTY OF FOLDERS, while the right pane has "programs, explorerer, etc."

Hi, Usually repairing Internet Explorer fixes this issue.
Read the following, all the way down to the bottom!
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=194177
If you have XP, there is another method: Since XP comes with IE 6, the entry for IE does not show in Add/Remove Programs, and you cannot run the repair utility from there...so> try this:
Read about it first!http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_ie6.htm
Start button>Run
Type in the run line this:[cmd] and hit Enter key once.
Type this next to the cursor in the black box:
sfc /scannow (one space after the c) and hit Enter key once again.
Let the System File Checker run, it will take awhile, then it will NOT give any messages...either it works, or it doesnt.
For other than XP, win2000, etc:
The IE Repair utility is available if you have upgraded Internet Explorer from the original installed version> take a look in Add/Remove Programs, and if you see this:
Microsoft Internet Explorer (someversion) and Internet Tools, just hit Add/Remove> we arent uninstalling anything, you will see 3 options then> hit "Repair this version of IE" and let the utility run to completion. You will see a message that tells you either it fixed something, or that you need to reinstall IE.
There are certain steps to reinstalling depending on what your version of Windows is> and if you have XP with SP2 or not.
Let us know what happens.
In Regedit right hand pane I have only the Name column. Type and Data columns are missing. All data is stacked at left hand side under the Name column.
Maybe the dividing line between the Left and Right hand panes is too farto the right. Move it to the left to give more space in the right pane.
3 more repliesHi:
I have a terrific HP Laptop which I purchased back in 2007 or 2008 and I rarely use it until last month, probably only once or twice a week with only a few hours.
Recently, I started to use HP Laptop on daily basis and found 'Search' at the left side of the pane/screen is missing/lost when clicking on 'Search' at the top. 'Search' at the address bar is perfectly OK tho'.
Is this issue related to not use it for a while, .... or how did it disappear?
Only seen is 'Google' ad. popping up upon clicking at 'Search' on the tool-bar of the top.
How can I rescue 'Search' at the left pane of screen?
Thanks for any help in advance.
Are you talking about Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer or what?
Do you mean the "Search" option is missing when you (for example) right-click on your "C:" drive?
Hi, one day I started windows, and noticed that the common task pane was missing.
I clicked on folder options to check if it was disabled, but to my amazement it is enabled!
I do not understand what is happening.
Does someone know what may be the problem?
Thanks in advance.

You can turn off the UAC thing, I did.
hit "windows key"-r and type in msconfig. go to tools and scroll down to select disable UAC. click launch. now just restart the computer.

You may want to carry out a virus scan, for which Malwarebytes is eminently suitable: Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

Hi,
I need your help. First, today my sister told me that the house power outage and the pc shut down and when I got home from work I turn on the pc and I got a missing drivers. the screen that tell you what you want to do when you get inappropriate shutdown - safe mode, start windows normally, etc... screen. i have windows win 7 64 bit with sp1 retail. so I selected start windows normally, but I get a screen that tell me about a missing or corrupt file. \windows\system32\drivers\ndis.sys and status: 0xC000032 (hope i remember it right)
So I didn't think that a electrical outage will cause a serious problem to the file vdrvroot.sys file.
i even tried with option start with last good known configuration and still get same problem.
so I load windows 7 dvd and went into repair computer and lets the thing auto fix for couple time and reboots and still get same problem.
so this time i didn't let the program auto fix and i browse my directory and I went into /windows/system32/config and change the name of software file and system fil to software.old and system.old and then i went to /windows/system32/config/regback and copy the software and system files and paste it to /system32/config and restart my pc and it booted in pass that missing vdrvroot missing file error(not sure if i did more auto fix by windows 7 repair by disk). anyway, when it log in screen. i got a pop up that say LogOnUI.exe error, like file is missing and NSDIS.SYS is missing.

The Links details on my IE7 Toolbar have suddenly gone missing. The word Links is still on the left hand side of the space for the toolbar but it is completely inactive when I click on it or anywhere else in the bar area. Neither can I drag URLs to this area. Under Tools the Link option is ticked & Lock the Toolbars is unticked. Does anyone have any ideas on how this has happened & how it can be rectified?
If Lock Toolbars isn't ticked then you should have a faint vertical line to the left of the word Links. If you hover your cursor over this it should change to a double headed arrow and you should then be able to drag the links area out or move it onto another toolbar.
2 more repliesHello. I'm using Windows 7 Home Pro. 64-bit, and Firefox browser. When I want to save an image from the Internet, and right click on an image, it opens up what looks just like Windows Explorer. The problem is, the 'preview pane' button is missing, and I can therefore not get a large preview when using the details view, which I must use, because I have folders with many files to look through quickly. The images do show up properly in icons view. If I open up Windows Explorer by itself, it works properly, and I get the preview pane button.
I saw a similar thread, and it recommended making sure Windows Photo Viewer, is set as the default program. I set it to be the default, but it didn't help.
On my older Windows XP computer, I had xplorer2lite open up when right-clicking on an image. That was a more convenient program for me to use. Is it possible to do that in Windows 7?
Also, is to possible to get the panes in Windows Explorer to 'hold' their position.
Thank you.
Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I'd try another browser to confirm it's not browser or a website site issue.
This started happening all of a sudden...when I right-click on an mp3 and look under the Details tab, all of the information (artist, album, bitrate, etc.) is completely blank and it doesn't let me change it. iTunes can see the details no problem.
Anyone know what's causing this? Thanks.
(using Win7 x64)
Originally when XP installed, for pictures, when File\Properties was selected the pane had two tabs: 'General' and 'Summary'. Now only the General tab shows in the pane. The Summary could then be expanded to 'Advanced' which showed all the meta data for the picture, i.e. details of the camera, exposure, f number, etc. This was very useful. The change may have occured when I included a Windows update. I have included all the Windows updates available for XP from the Microsoft site. Why is this second tab 'Summary' not now available? Any ideas or suggestions most welcome.
click hereOpen Notepad.Go to the link above and copy the text (starting from REGEDIT 4 onwards) and paste it in Notepad. Then in Notepad click Save as. In the box: save as type, select All Files. Then save the file as image.reg somewhere on your computer. Then back up the relevant registry hive. click Start, Run, type regedit and press Enter. On the left, highlight HKEY Classes Root. At the top left, click Registry, Export registry file, and save it as ClassesRoot.reg, at a location you remember. Exit Regedit. Then go to image.reg file. Right click and select Merge. Confirm.Try and see if the Summary tab comes back (restart if necessary). If the tab comes back, and image files and programs open correctly (give it some time), you can delete the backed up ClassesRoot.reg file.

Hello, my programs and features screen (uninstall or change a program), is missing the details (publisher, installed on, size, version) after I uninstalled itunes from my second hard drive. What can I do to fix it?
I have attached a picture to further explain the issue, thank you.
Try right clicking on the column named Name...
...and selecting the other columns of interest from the context menu:
Hi Guys
In my pictures, thumbnail view, the text that names each folder has dissapeared. Any idea how to get this back.
ITs fine in Detail, or list view, just thumbnail view
Thanks

Until recently, when using Windows Explorer, I was able to right click on an mp3 file, select properties, then the details tab and thus be able to see title, artist, album and other information. Now when I right click, I don't get the details tab (for any type file). What could have changed? Thanks
A Windows update may have changed the options for security or stability reasons. The effect may not have been their direct intention, but a result of 'fixing' something else. You can still get this information in Windows Media player (or what ever they are calling it these days) or in Real Player. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. This site is about helping people, lets keep it that way.

I have a Lumia Icon and vcards sent to me via text do not come through with all of the contact info that is sent. I've had several iphone users that I know try it and some info comes through but not all. Typically email addresses and street addresses don't come through. Why doesn't this work and will the WP 8.1 /Denim update fix it? I run a business and I need this functionality to work correctly. It's embarrassing to ask someone to email a contact because my phone can't recognize it. I love Windows Phone, but my business can't suffer because of it. Anyone else have this issue? I'm seriously thinking about returning my new Icon for a Droid Turbo or iPhone because of this.
If a drawback in your phone affects your business then its better returning it and getting what works best for you
2 more repliesWhen I open an instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane show little or nothing (no drives, folders, etc.). Also the preview pane does not show a preview for any selected files (See Capture1.JPG).
If I open a second (or higher) instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane functions properly (the preview still does not show) (See Capture2.JPG).
I have previews set to show (See Capture3.JPG).
Also occasionally, the file icons will be blank instead of showing the file type specific icon. When this happens, the address bar also seems to take a long time to load. The load bar will stop before reaching the end and won't finish (See Capture4.JPG).
Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix this?
FYI I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro.
Try Explorer++ and see if you get the same problem.
Need to enable "Folders" view.
If it works then you can rule out problems with system files and it's probably a buggy shell extension.

It's portable and runs without installation.
Let us know if navigation pane works using Explorer++
I had to manually find all related files to OE6 to delete it so it would reinstall. Then the updates. Now nothing shows up on the preview pane or when I open the email. I can use Outlook instead but what is wrong? The only view of the message is in properties: details: message source.
1. With Outlook Express closed, go to Start>Run
2. Type in: regsvr32 inetcomm.dll (with the space after "regsvr32")
3. Click OK (or press the Enter key)
4. Open OE and see if things are fixed

Hi, got a message yesterday on my windows 8.1 laptop saying my windows is expiring in a couple of weeks and I need to put in a product key to renew it. So I found my product key and put i tin and it won't work? It says it can't be accepted and to use another one?It was originally a windows 8 but I did the update to make it an 8.1.Anyone able to help? Also where can I find the details to my laptop? Like serial number and stuff? There isn't a sticker underneath.
It should not be asking for a Windows key if it was ONLY an update from Windows 8 to 8.1 Did you change the HDD, modified BIOS or installed 8.1 differently than going into "Update & Recovery"? Your Serial Number and Model No should be on the Invoice which Lenovo sent you.It should also be in the Final order email and the Lenovo Order Status on the website. Note it down, since I also couldn't find it on my laptop as a sticker.

Hi to everyone who reads this.
When I want do a CHKDSK on C, I get prompt to schedule this task the next time my pc boots, no problems here though.
But after booting up I don't see the CHKDSK-information displayed as it should in normal circumstances. My screen stays black during the CHKDSK Scan, whilst I believe the scan runs as it should be. I derive that thought from the fact that I had a disk surface issue, and after doing the CHKDSK scan the problem was gone.
So the only thing I'm lacking is the information while in progress.
Does anyone have a clue on how to fix that?
Thanks for your time and advice.
Best regards Carlo
Hello Carlo,
Did you change your boot screen by chance? Doing so results in a blank screen while chkdsk runs as boot. The information at the top of the tutorial at this link above can give more details about how you can use the sfc/ scannow command to restore the default boot screen to see chkdsk afterwards.
For now though, the tutorial below can show you how to read the chkdsk log to see what it said.

Hello,
I recently recovered from a trojan on my Windows XP machine, and had to re install. Everything worked perfectly, now I'm setting up my internet and after that I will update my new anti virus program.
So here's the problem, my friend Rob is helping me set up my internet and asked for my motherboard information, so I followed his instructions and launched the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. I went to the Display tab, and under the "Device" section, everything was entered in as n/a or just nothing.
The actual text:

Manufacturer: n/a
Chip type: n/a
DAC Type: n/a
Approx. Total Memory: n/a
Current Display Mode: 1400 x 1050 (16 bit) (1Hz)

How can I find my information and put it back in? If I have to download something I can just transfer it from my notebook to the machine itself, I'm just really confused and need some help. My computer is made by Dell and the model name is XPS 630i.
I also have the information in the Sound tab missing too... But I do have my Realtek stuff plugged in from my monitor, but that's all I know.
Any help would be appreciated.
Have you installed all the required drivers?
Open Device Manager and post any device errors.
