I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, everybody,

I originally had a problem with this game because it would not load any textures whatsoever, so everything was just an outline of what it was supposed to be. I fixed the problem by turning down the texture detail to almost low. The game now displays textures but it won't display any particle effects or water which is really annoying, plus light rendering isn't working properly either. Supposably MGS2 has a problem with pixel shaders and in order to fix those specific graphics problems you need to disable pixel shaders on your GPU. They suggested using riva tuner, but that was made for Nvidia Cards and I don't know if it will work on Intel onboard graphics.

A lot of people have had this problem, particularly those with Nvidia cards (sometimes ATI as well). However Konami released a patch to fix the graphics issues for ATI only. However I am using Intels onboard graphics, and I have no idea how to even begin fixing the problem outside of buying a new computer (which I am tempted to do). Some people have suggested editing the .exe files with a hex editor and replacing some details to try to make it work but I don't know what I am doing and I would probably screw it up. anyways, if you guys have any suggestion please let me know thanks.

Hello all,

I am kind of frustrated because I feel like I bought this game for nothing. I didn't think it would be so difficult to run. I am trying to run the game on a windows 7 home premium laptop with Intel(R) hd graphics. Just to get the game to run I had to use a program called Creative Alchemy so it could emulate EAX and 3D audio because supposably MGS2 is a DirectSound3D game (whatever that means). So thankfully the game actually ran. However when you go to play, it appears that all of the characters and 3D models in the game are practically see through, and you can't see any of the textures which is really annoying. I have done some research online and so far people are saying that the game is a bad PC port and that it isn't meant to run on Intel Graphics chips. However there are people that have made it work for Intel HD graphics 3000, and it looks very good.

Anyways, please help me, I have been dying to play this game and now that I finally have it I can't!

Answer:Solved: Metal Gear Solid 2 for pc graphics problem

Hey,

i just fixed the problem, for some reason, when you try to run the game with full details, it will not display any textures at all, however when you turn it down, it works great.

Question: Metal Gear Solid

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes comes out in Spring 2014 for, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. With the announcement of the Deja Vu exclusive content for the Playstation systems. It left Xbox fans wondering whether or not there would be anything for them. Last night at the Xbox One event, it was announced that there would be exclusive content for Xbox One.

They do not detail what it would be but I can tell you this; it will not be the Deja Vu mission as that is exclusive to fans that have been around for the past 15 years since Metal Gear Solid for Playstation 1.

Question: Metal Gear Solid

I'm thinking of starting to play the MGS series, I've never really liked Splinter Cell so I avoided it at first. I'm just wondering which versions and on which systems I should play each title to get the most out of the experience as a beginner to the series?

Answer:Metal Gear Solid

I'd suggest playing on the native consoles (PS? can't remember) because the PC controls are pretty screwy. By versions do you mean order? If so, start from the beginning.

I just bought this game and it's giving me no end of trouble - main problem being sound.
During the intro video, during the 'death music', during conversations on the Codec, all I hear is sort of super-loud fuzzy interference through my speakers. Sound effects and Background music are fine. With the nature of the game this has made it basically unplayable. My sound card is nVidia nForce 2 onboard sound by the way.
The graphics also seem to be jerky and not all that detailed, no matter what settings I choose. Now I have the original game on PS2 and it looked fab on that, I fully expected a brand new 2GHz machine with GeForce4 and 512 megs of RAM to handle it as well as my PS2 did but unfortunately it seems it doesn't.
There's no readme or documentation of any sort to help me out, the game has 'poor console conversion' written all over it really and I'd bring it back to swap for PS2 version only the PS2 one is double the price.

hey people. just downloaded the original Metal Gear Solid PC game, very excited except that everytime I try to start it, a black box appears....then vista says "game failed during previous initialization, game starting software rendering mode..). Immediately after I press "OK", the black box enlarges but then disappears.

I have tried using windows compatibility with every version of winodws listed. I've tried using 256 colors, different resolutions, etc..

If anyone can help...please

Picked this game up for $15 and installed it ok. After the opening sequence has completed, a loading screen appears instructing you to 'Press the start button'. Sure enough when you hit 'Return' you go to the 'Options' screen for 'New Game' / 'Settings' etc. However hitting any of the 5 option in the menu - and you get booted back the loading screen with the 'Press start ..'

This happens over and over. Have tried other keys but cannot get into the game.

There are no errors per se - its not a driver or DirectX issue.

The only patches released are for errors related to Radeon Cards - which does not apply to me.

No other faults that I can determine.
Can anyone shed any light on what I may have missed here ?

Have a good week all.

Richard.

Hi, I've been having HUGE problems with metal gear solid for the P.C. Firstly whenever I get killed the damm thing terminates and gos back to windows, no error messages, nothing. Also when I get up to the nuclear building on the second basement level (the bit where you shoot missles at the electric panel) I shoot a missle and try and put first person view on the missle and the game goes back to windows. I have a p2 233 mhz 32 megs of ram.

Answer:Metal gear solid BIG PROBLEMS!

Well your machine is right on the minumum's for the game so I would suspect a memory issue. Make sure you close down everything running in the background before playing. Scan and defrag hard drive. Probably turn off some of the options to see if it helps the problem. Worse comes to worse it is a D3D game, update your directx. Make sure sound is set to low or most compatible.

I was thinkin of adding this to the christmas wish list, and I need to know if its any good. and pretty much what type of game it is and what its all about since I have no idea about it. But i heard it was pretty good. OH, and were talking about xbox here.

Answer:Metal Gear solid 2 for xbox, any good?

If you haven't played the previous incarnations of this game, then you might like it. I, however, didn't. Most die-hard fans didn't like it. If you've played Splinter Cell, then you'll have some idea of what this game is like. I'd probably put MGS3 on my wish list. Haven't rented it yet, but it looks cool. Although having to hunt for food and cures sounds kinda lame.

Hi,
I'm having problems with the sound on Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance for the PC. During codec conversations and during movies, the sound is horribly distorted, if there's no music I can just about barely make out what they're saying but if there is music then no chance, all i get is horrible noises that force me to turn my speakers off. In game sound effects and background music aren't effected, but it's the nature of the game that the dialogues and cut scenes are very important.
I'm using the onboard sound from my MSI K7N2G which is an nforce 2 chipset. I had this problem about 6 months ago and brought the game back, but since I saw it on sale for a tenner and I have newer drivers now I thought I'd give it a go again. I have the most up to date drivers and I've tried patching the game(the patch is only meant to make it compatible with ATI graphics cards anyway, strangely enough I have a radeon 9600XT and the graphics were perfect both before and after the patch)
Anyway, the sound issue seems in some way connected to whatever format is played during movies and cutscenes, because everything else is fine. In the game options I can choose between primary sound driver or nvidia nforce audio, but changing that option doesn't make a difference.
Any ideas?

I thinking of the remake of halo 1 in better graphics. Now I don't have an interest in that, but after playing METAL GEAR 4 and seeing the old run down base from ps1, I started thinking about old memories and this game being the first game that really brought me on an adventure that I enjoyed.

I would love to replay this game with all the graphics updated. Game play when you have played it several times is less than 3 hours, I imagine you could include it as a bonus mini game in a larger metal 5-6 type thing.

Have been getting this intermittently while playing The Phantom Pain (and sometimes Ground Zeroes), initially it was an issue with hardware that I fixed through a Windows hotfix, but now it's turned to a couple of different messages. One of them was while working with DXGMM1.sys, at which point I uninstalled and reinstalled my DirectX drivers. Now it will either freeze completely and need a hard-reset, or it will BSOD with a hang on OXOOOOOO1E or OXOOOOOO7F. Am I just screwed at this point?

Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes. I tried all of these methods to fix this:
-I used D3DOverrider to force V-Sync and Triple Buffering. Didn't work.
-I tried locking the frame rate to 59, then 58 and 57. Didn't work. Worked only from 54 or lower. And tearing wasn't completely eliminated in that case neither.
-I tried using Nvidia Adaptive V-Sync.
-I tried using Nvidia V-Sync and forcing Triple Buffering from the Nvidia control panel. Fixed the tearing but frame rate went ape shit.
-The game is set on fullscreen, if I set it on borderless fullscreen the frame rate goes ape shit too.
I have a GTX750ti and FX-8320. I can tell you the complete specs but I don't think it's really important that you know them in this case. If I'm worried si much about performance in this game is because I fear that TPP will have the same problem with my pc.

Hi guys.
Looking at getting a custom built Vortex IV from PC Specialist.
Spec price is now up to about £1900. 32gb Kingston Ram, i7 Quad Processor, 120gb SSD, 1tb Seagate Hybrid, plus other enhancements I have chosen.
However, the graphic card is a mystery in truth. Standard NVIDIA GTX 770M 3gb makes the cost around £1913. The AMD Radeon HD 8970M 4gb makes it just under £2000. Both are DDR5 Video Ram - DirectX 11.
There is a 4gb NVIDIA card, but another £200 more - no chance!
Basically, out of the NVIDIA 3gb and AMD 4gb - which should I go for?
Main uses for new machine - multi displays, gaming (Skyrim and other similar 3D graphic intensive games) video and image editing.
I would like to arrange the building of this unit soon, but want to make the right choices for the components.
Any help or advice is, as ever, hugely appreciated.

I have encountered a problem with the card that came with my new Evesham PC -the NVIDIA 8800GTX - whilst it plays all games it won't play the new game STALKER. I have not updated the drivers since buying my PC in January - Vista shows them as version 7.15.11.59.NVidia's site lists several newer ones available - which should I go for - it lists US English and international (ie UK English presumably) versions but I have no idea which to go for?I contacted the game manufacturer (THQ) who suggested I download the beta driver from nvidia - version 101.41 . I did that and installed it but my PC then refused to start at all and I had to use system restore to go back to the original driver.I did not uninstall the original drivers (as it said I should)as it warned that this would lead to the permanent removal of drivers / registry info etc. and I did not want to risk this. Would system restore overcome this? I am very reluctant to do something that could be irrevocable - HELP!!I have written to nvidia 3 times - no response yet

I've replaced the memory, checked the memory in various slots, had Microtel on the phone a dozen times working with settings. I did not get any BSOD while the video card was out of the machine but of course the onboard video is extremely limiting in computer use. I'm confident that heat is not a problem nor is PSU size a problem. I keep all my drivers up to date and also the Windows updates.

Hi,
The Inspiron N7110 is shipped with Integrated and Discrete video solutions. You can also choose to switch between the graphics depending upon usage.

In my experience you need to have 2 identical cards, both from the same series. I am thinking that is what your problem is since you have a 9000 series card and an 8000 series card. I could be wrong but I do believe you need identical cards.

So according to the NVidia 378 Release Notes the 375 Professional drivers will be the last ones to support all the Quadro cards that exist in the P50/P70 series (1000M thru the 5000M) Does @Amy_Lenovo or any other moderators have any comment about this turn of events? What kind of guarantees will we get for future certifications against new software versions that are coming out? Are we out of luck, does Lenovo have any pull with NVidia on this? Do we as professional have any recourse? Official / unofficial MXM upgrades? Tradeup to a P71? (Probably a CDinH, but I have to ask ) Thanks.

I'm looking to buy a AMD Radeon 6950, 6970 that's 10.4 inches in length or lower.

I recently purchased a Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 Dirt3 addition to replace my Crossfire setup of HIS Radeon HD 5770 cards.

The card ran great for a day, and then I noticed artifact tearing and constant crashing to blue screen was an immediate sign the card was bad. But I gave it the benefit of the doubt, went to safe mode, disabled the card, uninstalled the old AMd drivers, swiped the registry for AMD video clean and reinstalled drivers. Still same artifacts and crashing. So I turned off PC, reseated the card, and still same issues.

I had to RMA the card, and unfortunately Newegg doesn't have it in stock anymore (I figured these cards were good because they're out of STOCK everywhere.) so it's likely by the time it;'s finished processing I'll get my refund. Because if the item is out of stocked I have two options, replaced with a product of "equal" value, or refund. I'll obviously opt for a refund though.

I'm looking to spend anywhere from 280-360 dollars. Maybe even a little more money but not too much more.. I need some good solid suggestions and please omit HIS and Sapphire. I don't know enough about Sapphire honestly, but I already got a band impression - and with all my experience with HIS those cards run blazing hot.

Hello, i had bought the XPS 15 laptop approximately 5 months ago from philippines and right now i am in india. When i am charging the laptop i get electic shock when i touch the metal parts of the laptop.
But recently i discovered when the laptop is charging i get current from other parts of the house as well such as metallic bathroom taps and metal grill of my house.
I tested it using tester so its not some assumption but real current.
So please provide some guidance on why is this happening and why is the current flowing in different parts of my house when laptop is charging.

Hi.. So my psu got messed up so i have now sent it in and using a old psu without pci-e power so i had to change out my GTX 660 to my old ATI Radeon 4650
Though the gtx 660 kicks donkey in gaming the Radeon is running flash games smoother and some other stuff to
Also a bit of a OpenCL vs CUDA war
When rendering with my AMD A8 laptop with intergrated gpu the rendering times in Sony Vegas 12 accually was shorter than the video with OpenCL gpu acceleration on But with
Cuda acceleration on with my GTX 660 with around 950 CUDA cores the rendering times are about dubble the video lenght

This is soo confusing??
Did i do a very stupid move buying a 660 instead of a R9 270x card for Gaming and video editing and rendering

Answer:AMD cards Vs nVidia cards? Got very confused by a thing

You didn't mess up on anything but to be honest AMD has gotten better with encoding speeds over the years

I just recently bought a new GTX 780 ti I have not done any video yet i have been doing benchmarks but i will find out soon enough

the time it normally took me to render and burn with 2x7970's were about 20 minutes depending on what it was doing some took longer then others to about 30 minutes but actually cut down to 25 minutes

Direct Compute and Open GL are on fire right now with AMD cards they use it very well and Bitcoin Miners seem to love how much over Nvidia they run

For me it's doesn't mater as long as it suits my needs but other people may differ with the way AMD has been changing GPU Architecture people have been going red and also the prices have gone up so if you are looking to change now you need to look for a card worth the coin because they gone up 20% matching Nvidia prices

But as far as I know Toshiba recommends installing and using the own graphic drivers from the Toshiba driver page? I read in this forum that you can use other non-Toshiba drivers but only at your own risk?.

Someone said that I can find UniVBE drivers for nVidia cards at www.bootdisk.com, but I searched almost every link there and haven't found it.

Hi there,

My computer came with a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP card, which is apparently a Graphics/Video Card with onboard video (or the other way around, video w/ onboard graphics) Now, this is a terrible card- it can barely play any modern games. I want to get a new graphics card, but I'm concerned if I install a new Graphics Card, that because of the onboard video, it will affect this greatly, or if I actually need a video card instead of graphics. What do I actually need, and will it adversely affect anything on my PC.

I can provide more information if you want...

I've read Quadro's are stable and highly recommended for CAD, etc workstations (not for gaming) and gaming cards are obviously better for gaming. I am looking to setup two separate dual output video cards in a new machine. It will be used primarily for streaming real time financial info/web surfing (no CAD nor any 3D modeling) with a secondary use of gaming (not important for me to run top games at top resolutions-average is fine). Should I look at getting Quadros or game cards. I am leaning toward the game cards like Nvidia 8600GT, etc as they are lower price and seems like if they can run games fast/no problem-why wouldn't they easily be able to handle business applications? Quadros seem to cost more and can mainly only be used for business apps?

Answer:Nvidia Quadro vs Nvidia gaming cards

Quadros are for Digital Content Creation and CAD purposes mainly. For you, a pair of 8600GTs would be fine.

What are those cable things used for on a PCI graphics card.
E.g.

http://i6.ebayimg.com/01/i/001/2d/74/c92e_1.JPG

On this graphics card there is one blue connector thingy with holes in it, which I think is for some cable (excuse me for my lack of computer literacy). What is the cable port and the cable used for? And is the cable necessary for the graphics card to work in a computer, or is it just for connecting it to a tv or something --> I don't really know. Just wanna know if the port has to be used, or whether it can be left empty and still will work in a computer in a PCI slot.

Thanks.

I've got a really strange problem.. My computer will randomly shut off or not turn on sometimes. Once it "short circuits" it won't turn on again for a while - sometimes an hour, sometimes all day. At first I thought it was overheating, but when I was messing around with it, I found that if I unplug the HDMI cable after it shuts off, and sometimes just touch the metal of the HDMI cable to the metal mount (not the actual port) of the HDMI port it will turn back on, but not all the way. The fans will start going, but if I then plug the HDMI cable back in, it doesn't show anything on my monitor.

Can anyone explain this strange behavior?

Answer:Metal on Metal Short Circuits?

Firstly did you bench test everything before installing into the case?

Are the standoffs in the correct place on the case and are you sure that no extra standoffs are under the motherboard causing it to short to the case?

Something is obviously shorting I would disassemble the machine and reassemble it paying attention to where you install the standoffs and for foreign objects that may have fallen behind the mobo. might be worth bench testing it first to figure out if anything in particular is causing the problem.

Your psu should grounds the case and motherboard so you want to ensure that your wall socket isn't damaged and has a working ground.

I have a Gigabyte Radeon 9200. If I have the ATI version of the same card, will I get better performance? The Gigabyte version is cheaper, will it have the same performance when they both have the same specs? My systems runs well, and it has for almost 2 years except for the graphics, I'm not that satisfied with it.

Answer:Gigabyte graphics cards and Ati graphics cards

Same chip, just different manufacturers.

You need to just pay attention to the specs. One may use better g-RAM than the other. Also, one will have different alternate add-ons than the other, which may change your decision.

I will note, though, that Giga-byte often sells good graphics-card packages with great stuff, but the heatsinks they use are often cheap and shytty. Not to mention that the boxes from Giga-byte usually smell like the rotting putrescence from the severed hands of the 4th-world country workers they use to build the stuff.

But if that doesn't bother you, then Giga-byte is a decent choice.

W510 unable to utilize 3D graphics even though per Lenovo website my dirver is up to date.Running original W7 pro 64 bit and using original Nvidia graphics card Quadro FX 880M.Driver from Lenovo version 9.18.13.1269 released Dec. 1, 2013 (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS013622) I am on trial version of a floor plan/house designing software which is higly regarded and costly ($200) so don't think problem is with software. I definitely meet the minimum specs for software except for one:It needs graphics card to be able to run OpenGL 2.1 or higher in order to render 3D views of plan. Software (herafter noted as HDA) has determined that my graphics card is only offering OpenGL 1.0, and recommends driver update. So after talking with their tech support, I tried Nvidia driver 340.52 from Nvidia website released early July 2014. This was a catastrophe; still no 3D rendering, and numerous problems with even email or web browser and enormous system slow down. The Nvidia driver update also installed Nvidia Control Panel (also audio drivers). While Nvidia Control Panel opened it then went back and forth between Windows showing that it was "Not Responding" to briefly showing home screen of Control Panel (hereafter NCP). Never could access anything in NCP. HDA tech support wanted me to un-install NCP which I was unable to do other than using a WIndows system restore point, so I am back to square one with my lenovo graphics driver... Answer:Nvidia FX880M graphics driver & Nvidia control panel problems

AFAIK NVIDIA requires the NCP to be installed with it's driver package.Did you do a clean install of the 340.52 driver? Sometimes in-place upgrading NVIDIA drivers doesn't end well. Also try to exclude 3D Vision from the install.

Lenovo seems to be lagging behind in getting updated graphics drivers from Nivida to its loyal customers.  So I went to the Nvidia site and looked.  The date on my driver is 12/16/2008.  When I let nvidia scan my system it reports that it is driver 179.30.  The latest for the 105m is 186.  And to add insult to injury Nvidia says "The manufacturer of this system requires that you download the driver for your GPU from their support site."  Sooooooo....... I have two questions: 1)  for Lenovo - when do you expect to release a new Nvidia driver for us? 2)  for other (apparantly) forgotton loyal Lenovo cusoters like myself: .....Has anyone gone ahead and installed the Nvidia driver?  Does it work?  Are there problems?  How did you get around them? Ok sorry - that's more than 2 questions.  :-)  But I think you get my drift. Brassie

Answer:Graphics driver from Nvidia for my SL500 with the Nvidia Geforce G 105m?

1) The Lenovo drivers are tested rigiously to make sure it is not incompatible with the systems, so this is why it is so slow. 2) No, only the nvidia driver from Lenovo would work.

Hi,

This is my first post to this forum.

Could anyone recommend a good video card for under or around $150? I'm not a hard-core gamer by any means, but I would like to play recent games like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, and other new, related FPS and adventure games (not into role playing or strategy though, like WarCraft and such).

I built my computer 1 year ago, it's pretty basic: Pentium III 1.6 Ghz, 256 MB memory, a Biostar motherboard with both AGP and PCI (I think) ports. Like I said, I don't need a hardcore accelerator, just something that would let me play games at a decent clip--my onboard graphics card just isn't cutting it.

Is there a big diff between Radeon and Geforce? These seem to be the two big brands out there now. Is either one better than the other?

Second question: This one may make me look like an idiot newbie. I'm in China right now, but before I return home to the USA I'm pondering whether it would be a good idea to buy my graphics card here in China.

What do you think? The prices seem to be a bit lower than in America, and they sell Radeon graphics cards (or so they say they are). On the other hand, if the card doesn't work on my system, I obviously can't fly back and exchange the item at the store.

Has anyone had experience buying hardware from or in China? Are there are good Chinese video card brands that you would recommend?

Thanks for your help,

Eric

Answer:graphics card rec AND: graphics cards in china

I doubt that your mobo is 8x... possibly, but I'd have to have the model number. So I'd go for an older card, unless you can get a great deal (you can always build a better system, or upgrade the one you have if it is 8x AGP...).

Radeon vs GeForce... it all boils down to personal preference. The newest cards are so close it doesn't really matter.

Bottom line: If you can get a great deal on a reputable company's card, I'd do it.

Question: nVidia cards...

I think I'm gonna try a little something new, and get a GeForce 6800GT, since I've heard all these great things about them, and since it's supposedly the best card for the money out there. One problem: is eVGA really better than PNY, or BFG for that matter? I mean, I mean, I've seen a lot of PNY cards, so they can't be that bad...but is there really a difference that anyone has heard of? coz I don't want to get one and then realize I'm dumb and I totally should have waited 'till the store gets an eVGA in stock.

The eVGA is best becuase it has a larger heatsink that will make it easier to overclock to ultra speeds.

What is the big difference between Graphics Intel® HD Graphics 4400 or NVIDIA GeForce 820M 2GB ?

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:Graphics IntelĀ® HD Graphics 4400 or NVIDIA GeForce 820M 2GB

Intel® HD Graphics 4400 is a low and weak graphics card not suitable for demanding and powerful games. It's used for other applications or softwares such as google chrome, or minesweeper, anything that doesn't require huge processing. The Nvidia GeForce is more powerful, high performance, has tons of GPU power to make sure the game is playable. If you want to start a game always make sure it's played using the Nvidia Geforce. To do that simply right click > run with graphics processor > high performance nvidia processor.

Hello. Let me start by saying that I'm not all that knowledgable about graphic cards, graphic drivers, and my current issue. I bought this PC roughly 2 years ago and customized it, so it's i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz, 16GB DDR3, 1TB HDD, AND it's suppose to have 2Gb Nvidia GeForce GT 740M dedicated graphics. I just recently started getting into PC gaming (i.e. Steam; Rocket League, H1Z1, etc). I've only had seldom issues playing rocket league, but the problems arose to when  I tried playing H1Z1. It was very slow and my fps weren't high either (even on low/medium setting). I started doing some research about why that would happen and it has to do with the graphics, so I tried checking out the graphics on my PC, but all I could find was the intel HD graphics info and control panel. I've read information that sometimes there could be two graphics in a PC so it either uses one or the other, but I can't seem to detect the nvidia hardware through the driver nor find any control panel. It says processor graphics in use is intel HD graphics 4600. I believe this laptop would've had the graphics incorporated with the motherboard or something so it would not be replaceable or removeable, but I don't seem to have it at all? My PC even has a little Nvidia GeForce sticker logo on it under where the intel inside core i7 sticker is next to the fingerprint reader. I currently have windows 10. Does anyone know what the issue is or was I just ripped by HP or something? ... Vista 64-bit Home Premium (Service Pack 2, 12 GB RAM, i7 CPU) used to be fully functioning with 2 Nvidia GeForce GTX 285s in SLI configuration, but suddenly they are no longer recognized in Device Manager (are now called either ?Video controller (VGA compatible)? or ?unknown device?).

I have uninstalled them from Device Manager and rebooted, uninstalled the Nvidia drivers from Progams and Features, and reinstalled with latest nVidia drivers, but the cards are not recognized and the machine now has very basic visuals ? DVDs jerky, games won?t run etc.

When I use the ?update driver software? command in Device Manager I get ?the driver for your software is up to date? or ?windows found driver for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. The parameter is incorrect.?

Possibly linked to this (or the cause of it?) is failed installation of ?essential windows update? for nVidia - Display - NVIDIA Geforce GTX 285.
The error code was 80070005 and has just changed to 80070103.

I now know that I should avoid windows updates and from now on I will, but at the moment I?m mystified how to get the nVidia cards recognized.

I don?t have any previous system restore points.

I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions how to solve this problem.

Many thanks.

Answer:nVidia cards not recognized

Hello AJBV,
Try this un-installer to get rid of any trace of the old drivers. Do this in safe mode, then reboot.

Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com

I would go to the NVidia site to download the latest drivers.

Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Use option two, do this after you have run the un-installer.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

Radeon HD 5870, HD 5850 Are AMD's DirectX 11 Cards
Due out in September

The details on AMD's next generation of desktop graphics cards continue to hit the Internet, as we are approaching the much-anticipated moment when the Sunnyvale, California-based company will officially take the wraps off its first DirectX 11 cards. Following the pictures of the allegedly first AMD card with DirectX 11 support, we now have a couple of new details on the manufacturer's future graphics cards. Codenamed Cypress, AMD's upcoming DirectX 11 cards will be released under the Radeon HD 5800-series branding, with the Cypress XT boasting the Radeon HD 5870 name and the Cypress PRO to be known as the HD 5850.

According to a recent news-article that has surfaced on vr-zone, the new cards should be launched sometime next month, with availability slated for later in October, around the time when Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system is due out. There are a couple of technical details available on the new cards, but nothing related to core speed.

Among the main features that will be enabled on AMD's upcoming cards we need to highlight the following:

Question: Nvidia Cuda Cards

Hey, supposedly these cards are very powerful (and expensive). Are these stand a lone GPU's or are they a supplement to CPU's? I am wondering, because I am going to build a gaming machine and thought about putting one of these cards in there? I heard they out perform Intel's 3rd generation processors as far as how many calculations per second they perform. However I'm not sure of these calculations are for video processing only? Any thoughts on that?

Answer:Nvidia Cuda Cards

Cuda is actually the type of hardware processors on the graphics processor unit
or cuda cores.
The graphics processor is made up of a lot of cuda cores.
The number depends on the particular processor on the card
that is using it.
Nvidia makes the graphics processors and sells them to different manufacturers
who build the whole video card.
A good dedicated video card is always going to perform better than onboard or
on cpu graphics.
Low end cards may not,but they are usually designed for video playback, not games
or graphics intensive programs.
If you do get a decent video card, make sure you have a decent power supply to handle it.
They are stand alone video cards that fit in a pci express X16 slot on the motherboard.

I only have two XFX-5770 ATI cards in a crossfire configuration.

I also have a Nvidia PhysX programs installed. I assumed they were installed by Steam or some other game.

The questions are;
1) Do I need this PhysX application?
2) Does the ATI cards use them?
3) Will it be safe to delete All Nvidia/PhysX applications.

PS: Never had Nvidia cards installed either.

Answer:PhysX w/o Nvidia Cards. Only ATI.

1. Yes.

2. Not even if you try real hard.

3. You start deleting it then the game(s) that installed it will not work.

For the few games that use Physx it is required. If you have a compatible Nvidia card and the game supports it it will use GPU accelerated Physx, for all others if falls back to a software render and is still required even for this.

It is said that NVIDIA possible cancel G200b and to release new G3x0. -It will integrate 384SP and it will use 45nm technology.  -Its power consumption will cut a lot than G200. Its clocks will be improved to 850/2000MHz.  -It will match 1GB 256bit GDDR5 memory and the clock will be more than 4000MHz.It will defeat 4870X2 and any SLI set up, ever

I had two video cards in my system. An Asylum Geforce FX5200 AGP 256mb (single head) and a 3Dfx Voodoo4 PCI card (for second monitor). I replaced both with an eVGA e-Geforce 6200 AGP 256mb (two head - both monitors on one card) but my video editing program suffered (serious lag when scrubbing video) so I've reinstalled Asylum and Voodoo cards. I also tried the 6200 with the Voodoo4 but program still had lag. Guess Canopus Edius doesn't like the 6200. I would like to replace the Voodoo4 card with something better. Is it possible to use an Nvidia 5200 or 5500 PCI card with the Asylum card. Will there be a problem with both using the same driver? Should driver be installed a second time in different location?
OR
Since editing program functions properly with FX5200 would a newer dual head FX5200 be better? Would performance suffer sharing resources between two monitors?
System:
AMD Athlon64 3700+
2 Gig DDR400
ASRock 939Dual-SATA2
Asylum Geforce 5200 AGP 256mb
3Dfx Voodoo4 PCI 32mb
Edius NX PCIe x1

Answer:Two NVidia cards poss?

In theory you can stick any number of PCI video cards in your system and it should work. I'd say, with such a big company like nVidia, the drivers are able to cope with several cards, especially if they are not identical.

Matrox is always a sure bet for multi-anything (unless you want stellar 3D performance of course).

Hi.....

Can anyone assist re advice or their experiences with entry level PCI graphic cards (and I do mean 'entry' level - up to £70) Whilst I am reasonably up to speed with the specs and views regarding AGP cards, PCI is a bit of a mystery.

The card will be going into a new build for a friend of mine and it is being done on a very tight budget. There are no plans for game playing on it but by using a s939 Athlon 64 and PCI enabled mobo there will (hopefully) be an upgrade road

Thanks

Question: nvidia video cards

ok, I need a video card,, acutally a couple of them,, all I have ever run is ATI. I love ATI cards, but I am curious about nvidia cards. There are a ton of companies that sell nvidia cards, what is the best all round nvidia card? A friend of mine has a MSI Ti4200, 128mg and he loves it. I am looking at a high end card and a middle of the road card.

Any suggestions?

Answer:nvidia video cards

Right now I think the Nvidia GeForce 5950 256 MB is one of highest they sell (for high end prices as well..) But 6800 coming out soon, so that will be a lot better competition for the ATI. I'm not really a pro on the subject tho, so dont listen to me.

P.S. Not very much diff between 128 MB and 256, other than big price difference and a bit of FPS in games somewhat. You mainly paying for bragging rights. A topic being discussed constantly is waiting for PCI Express to come out, as it is supposed to be way better than AGP. I personally prefer Nvidia cards over ATI, but it is purely personal preference. Dont want this thread to start as another vid card arguement..

OK I saw here that they had an AMD vs. Intel so I was wondering why they didn't have a Nvidia vs Ati so I decided I would make my own. Ok so post your opinions and give a reason (optional) and other cool facts. Also post what you think is the best deal because the top end Ati are just as expensive as top end Nvidia. Remember take the polls!

In planning on building a new computer at the end of summer, one of my two largest questions is one of video component selection. With the myriad of quality video cards available, what are the real-life advantages (performance, reliability) that would place one of these manufacturers over the other?

I've owned an ATI Radeon 7000 (64 MB DDR) and was happy with it for about a year. It soon started to have to many instances of incompatibility with some newer games. I would have to roll-back device driver versions for one game, then upgrade to the latest drivers for the next...

After not being able to run at all a couple of games, I went ahead and bought an nVidia GeForce FX 5200 with 256 MB onboard. I was (and am) happy with the performance and reliability, as this card hasn't caused any issues at all so far and runs my games / programs at decent FPS.

However, in comparing to same-class cards from both companies, what offers the best bang for the buck? Both manufacturers are releasing highly impressive cards in the near future in the $400 and up range. I'm just curious for everyone's opinion here and their reasons behind it, I'm not trolling for a huge argument!

Also, in comparing cards, please compare cards of the same "class." In other words, don't compare a 256 MB AGP 8X ATI card with an old nVidia card with 16 MB onboard Thanks!

Answer:Video Cards: ATI or nVidia?

Hmm.... 9800 pro 128mb of 256-bit ram for $200.
X800 pro 256mb of GDDR3 ram for $400.
6800 128mb for $300.
TI4200 for $60.
9200 for $40.

new geforce 7 series cards, the 7300GS and soon an LE version are going to be released, mid-march i think. I dont even see why they are making this card tho, its really gonna suck for gaming: 4 pixel pipelines, 64-bit interface....but only $99. Still think its a waste... Can play video in 1080p tho

Hello,
I've recently trialed the Win7 RC and was really pleased at how easy it was and how simple it detected all my hardware.
So... come release date, i bought a 3 licence version of home premium.

I've spent this weekend trying to install it on both my PC and my Samsung Q210 laptop and i'm having the same problem on both.

After install, everythnig has gone ok EXCEPT the graphics.
My PC has a Nvidia 9800GT 1024 PCI-E card and win 7 is saying it's a STANDARD VGA GRAPHICS ADAPTER
I've downloaded windows 7 drivers from nvidia but the install does not work as it cannot detect any compatible installed hardware (as windows is obviously telling it it's a standard VGA card)
I've reinstalled several time, all to no avail. I've used both 32bit and 64bit versions of win 7, all to no avail.
The hardware does work as the release candidate of win 7 had zero issues with the card.

Thinking it was a one off specific to my PC, i tried installing my second license on my q210 samsung laptop.
This was an upgrade from XP
Again, everything seemed to work fine apart from the graphics card which again said standard graphics adapter.
The Q210 has a nvidia graphics card in it.

Again i've tried the nvidia drivers and got the same "no compatible hardware found" error and again i've reinstalled win 7, removed the standard VGA and tried to get it to redetect but nothing works.
I'm stuck with both my PCs on windows 7 but not being able to ... Read more

Hi,
my laptop has 2 nvidia 765m graphic cards, by the look of it one of them is not working properly, now i bought a geforce 980m to replace it with the dead card. my question is, is it possible to have two different models of nvidia graphic cards on the main board?
can SLI them?
if not is there going to be any problems?

Answer:is it possible to have two different nvidia cards in a computer?

You will need two identical Nvidia-based cards that support SLI,...... SLI cards of the same model, for example, a 2GB GTX 960 will only SLI with another 2GB GTX 960.

You should be fine with removing both the 765 cards and just using the 980.....

You used to be able to mix up AMD cards with Crossfire setups but that may have changed with all the latest generations of cards available....
