Looking for a new cell phone.

Question: Looking for a new cell phone.

I'm not big in the cell phone scene so I need some support on finding one. I'd like the cheapest MicroSD phone, preferably a Sony Ericsson. Thanks for any support.

Preferred Solution: Looking for a new cell phone.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Looking for a new cell phone.

I do all my work calls through my cell phone. Is it possible to highlight a phone number and then right click it and have it dialed through my cell phone? My cell phone and laptop are recognized via bluetooth, seems like this would've been a feature well before now.
It would be nice if it would be functional from Outlook emails or even webpages for businesses or candidates.
Thanks!

Question: MP3 Cell phone

Hi, I have a Motorola 815 cell phone with MP3 player. I recorded a cd (in MP3 format) to the transflash card. Using Windows explorer, I can see that all the songs are there on the card but when I install it, I only get ONE song.

I went to "change storage device" to transflash but hte phone still doesnt see all the songs that I can see with explorer.

Am I doing something wrong?

I just got a Samsung Intensity 2 and am looking to transfer my contacts from my old phone.
I had a Palm Centro that has infrared and have seen the infrared used to transfer that information before, I just have no idea how to do it.

Any ideas, or should I take them to the Verizon store and let them do it?
The nearest Verizon store is about 20 minutes away.
TIA.

Answer:Got new cell phone.

Hi. Verizon has a service that is free for their phones called Backup Assistant that you just have to activate. Have you already activated your new phone? From what I'm seeing, the Palm Centro is compatible with it. The problem is if you have already transferred your number to your new phone.

It's pretty easy, using Verizon's site, to transfer you number from one phone to another, set up backup assistant, reactivate your new phone, then again activate backup assistant. Verizon has it all layed out for you, or you could call their customer service and they'd do it all for you.

https://wbillpay.verizonwireless.com/vzw/nos/ba_nab/overview_def.jsp

So I guess the questions are:

-Have you already activated your new phone?
-Do you have an online account set up with them?

Answer:Cell Phone FAX

Well, I have never used cell based broadband internet access......but Sprint and Cingular both have mobile broadband cards for laptops....

Is there anyway to use my PC, tethered to my wireless phone to send a fax to a landline fax. Basically, can a wireless phone handle data exchange to another fax machine? Thanks, Mike

Answer:PC & Cell Phone = Fax?

Does your wireless phone have a built-in modem that supports fax?

Thats the main limitation.

Answer:Cell phone

Without any clue as to model numbers, its a hard call to offer constructive advice, but the Palm unit will allow the export (from the PC based copy on Palm Desktop) of the addresses and numbers to a .csv file.

If your new phone has connectivity to the PC, then it may be able to import them, but that would depend widely on the model and your own ability to connect it to a PC.

Alternatively the Palm will usually allow IR (InfaRed) beaming of the addresses, and if your new phone will receive IR data then that may be possible.

I'm not sure where this goes or whether or not anyone here knows about this. OK I have an LG CU400 phone, and the data cable for it. The problem is I don't have a program to recognize the phone so I can send stuff(ringtones, photos, etc.) to it. The cable did come with a disc, but the CU400 is a new phone and is not on the list for that CD. I also can't DL anything from the phone itself because somehow my plan doesnt allow me to do that. Question: Cell Phone

I know this is not a computer type of thing but it is about Cell Phones.

My Sister has a Boost Mobile Android Cell Phone and now she is going to get rid of it and get a Virgin Mobile Android Cell Phone.

Virgin Mobile told her she can take her old Cell Phone Number to her new Cell Phone.

So I went into her old Cell Phone Settings and went into Backup And Restore option.

It was under Settings all the way near the Bottom.

In here I see Backup With Wi Fi
so I put a Check in it.

Then I see Backup Data
So Tap it and I pick my Sisters G Mail Account Name.

And this is it I did not see anything like a List
Cell Phone Book
Contacts

So is my Sisters Cell Phone Phone Numbers Backed Up?

Answer:Cell Phone

That would backup her data and contacts and maybe apps data and such.

When you call Virgin to activate the new phone, you'll be asked the old phone's number and the new phone's serial number and within a short time delay-maybe 20 minutes the number will be transferred to the new phone and the old one will no longer have service.

So my 2 year contract has been up for my cell phone, but my iPhone 4 is in absolute perfect working order. Of course, every time I have to call Verizon Wireless for any questions, they like to tell me that I am eligible for a new upgrade.rolleyes The last thing I want to do is upgrade (and pay $300) just so I could get that obnoxious 'Siri' voice with the iPhone 4S. On top of that, I pretty much despise Apple as a company based on my own experiences with their products and particularly their support. On top of that, I can't stand that when you buy anything Apple, they make it very difficult to use it with anything non-Apple...including their itunes songs (which I stopped buying about 3 years ago in favor of Amazon's mp3's).

SO, now with the announcement of the Apple iPhone 5, I decided to go out there and see what else is just as good or better than an iPhone.

In my research, I found the Samsung Galaxy S3, but that's a droid and I'm not a droid fan, which is why I went with the Apple.

The other one I found that I Want! and will definitely buy if it's as good as it looks is the Nokia Lumia 920, which will be Windows 8 based: http://www.nokia.com/us-en/products/phone/lumia920/ Typically, I don't get excited about phones, but this thing, based on specs and ability, looks awesome. Not to mention its awesome looking.:drool The problem is Verizon has traditionally not carried the high end Nokia or windows based phones.

Answer:What cell phone do you want?

iPhone 5 basically is slimmer and has a bigger screen without HD that Android has been doing for years. If I didnt have all these paid for apps on my iPhone then I would go Android at this point. The iPhone 5 brings very little to the table this round.

Does anyone know if there is a way to hook up a cell phone to a fax machine?

thanksClick to expand...

interesting thread here...
my 1st thought is to keep it simple...
send text data from cell to PC...
then fax from there...
.
also there are programs for getting fax to e-mail, ...
like E-fax whatever...
and then you can read email (fax message) on your cell...
.
of course the real question I have for you is what phone do you have that can attempt this?
.
I believe there are cell phones out there on the market that can kick my PC's butt...
ya' know what I'm sayin'?

I myself can send and receive faxes but without printing, just strictly through e-mail.

I need to get my printer ink refreshed, (my color got things all dried up) meanwhile at least I know what fax I got,

sometimes I go to the library and open my e-mail and print from there...rolleyes
black n white not so much of a problem.

Hello,

I purchased Motorola Phone Tools and a USB cable to transfer some of my mp3's to my cell phone. When I uploaded them successfully, the quality was greatly reduced and I can't figure out a way to modify them - it sounds very scratchy when I set it as a ringtone. I don't see any option that the program gives me to modify bitrate, etc (my friend uses BitPim which is not compatable with my phone, but his ringers are much higher quality). If anyone can help me increase the quality, I'd appreciate it!

some extra info in the "preview" section when I'm about to send it to my phone:

Quality: 16 bit stereo

Thanks!

CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Sad tale to be aware of; unlocked phones may be severely crippled in the features available on another providers network!!

Purchase Motorola V600 (Quad band) GSM phone for extended trip to Europe. (Domestic uses 840+1900, Europe 900+1800)

Phone was already unlocked (shipped locked to T-Mobile however) in the box, and I only needed to swap the SIM card from Cingular into this phone --- works great, except no Email nor Browser support!

Called Cingular and we got TXT messaging working (but I don't normally use it), but we could not configure Email/Browser to access the Cingular network at all. The T-Mobile software is so different, there's no settings for things like IP-Address and Port numbers!

Called T-Mobile (1-209-904-2030) -- catch 22, not a T-Mobile user and therefore can't even access the phone.

Called Motorola Support (1-800-331-6456). WOW! Service person was nice enough, but spouted official Company rhetoric.
"The phone was manufactured for T-Mobile and with that contract, the T-Mobile software was installed. It is illegal for us to uninstall or replace that software."

1) It's MY phone, not T-Mobile's
2) I choose the service provider I need
3) said contract is collusion and conspiracy by the manufacturer and the service provider(s) here domestically (US) to force either a new device purchase and or to coerce a specific service provider.
4) European users do not have this problem and pr... Read more

Answer:Unlocking your GSM cell phone

I can confirm the bit about European cells.
Bought (as an upgrade) 3 tri-band cells, from and locked into the Vodaphone network (in Ireland).
Having spent enough money (i.e. over ?130.- per cell) on my previous Vodaphone pay-as-you-go phone-bills, all I needed to do then was call Vodaphone customer service with the cells' IMEI-numbers, they gave me the unlock-codes on the spot!
The cells are happily used now in Pennsylvania on the Cingular network, without any problems or limitations.
They were 2x Motorola E770V and 1x Nokia 3120.

Answer:Getting music from PC to Cell phone

Plug it in to your computer with the USB cable, select File Transfer mode (on the phone), open My Computer, and drag music(from where its stored) either onto the memory card or the phone. When you open the Walkman app on the phone, your music should be there...

Win 8 RT on an ARM device is the only way it could work. That's just in theory though.

CSI Stick grabs data from cell phones.

Note: this device is available to the public for sale at $200, and needs additional software to mine all of the cell phone data captured.

Is your cell phone password protected at the data/charging port?

The rule: if your phone contains sensitive data, do not leave it unattended. If you loan it to someone to use because they tell you theirs is not working, make sure you actually see them using the phone and there is nothing connected to it.

I know its not your typical first question but I'm wondering if there's any way to get Windows 7 to see a connected and tethered Windows 6.1 Smartphone to use it as the modem versus the built in PC hardware ?

I need the cell but not the landline now and it would be a great help. Conversely - I cant seem to locate a Smartphone compatible fax software so I can generate a doc on the PC and send it to the cell for faxing.

Answer:Windows 7 fax from cell phone ?

Well I was just thinking about this myself today. I on the other hand can already tether my sony phone to get me on the net with 3G speeds though t-mobile. I have to fax some papers but I can't find a fax machine around that doesn't charge 1.50 a page after 2.

So can you tether the phone at all? USB or bluetooth? if it was a blackberry or other phone I could help with the basic connection but I have never used a windows phone.

you might want to try a google search for windows 6.1 smartphone forums, you might find an answer that way. oh and the modem phone could help me find your answer too.

Is it bad that my cell phone resting place is right next to my external hd?
I just noticed too that my bose computer speaker is very close to the hd as well, do these devices have magnets that will negatively affect the hd?

Answer:Cell phone and external hd

Yes, they have magnets. The speaker ones are likely more powerful. Don't know if they'll significantly affect your HD, but I would guess probably not. Better safe than sorry though, so just don't get them too close, if you can help it.

I have had my htc phone and the htc synch manager working for some time. I don't use it often but want to transfer from pictures onto my computer and I cannot access the phone at all through the computer.

Answer:My htc one x plus cell phone is not being recognized now. How do I fix this?

The One X Plus is an Android device and unfortunately your post is in a wrong forum. Kindly post this in Android Central so someone can assist you better.
BTW usually in cases like yours its either a bad cable or the computer is missing drivers. Check Device Manager and try to find any USB controllers with a problem (yellow sign with exclamation), right-click and check for an updated driver.

As I understand it, I should be able to link my new Win8 touch screen notebook (Asus X202e) with my Android cel phone (Moto Droid X2) so that I can quickly and easily exchange photos and files - I think I should be able to see the entire contents of one device on the other?

Anyway, I've successfully set up my Bluetooth, 'found' my cel phone, paired it to my PC and made the connection. I can 'see' the phone on the computer (Win8 says it's working correctly) but I can't see anything on the phone on my PC nor the other way round

I watched a simple 'how to' on Youtube and it showed a desktop icon for the phone and when they clicked on that it showed every folder on the phone and you could search through the phone on your desktop and request any file you liked to be transferred. I don't have that icon, nor can I figure out how to create it. I found the shared folders, but they are empty, probably because I can't figure out how to transfer anything from PC to phone or the other way

TIA for any tips - Obviously, I'm overlooking something simple, as usual!

Don

Answer:Bluetooth & Cell Phone

I have a different Android phone than your's .
With that said when your phone is paired with the computer you can transfer file's between each other but to look threw all the folders and stuff on the phone with your computer you will need some software on the phone , with that said I use a program called Webkey for Android it works with the browser on your computer but I think you have to have your phone rooted to use it, there are other app's on the Google play store that do the same thing

Oh to transfer file's with no app . On your computer right click on a file that you want on the phone and pick "send to" and one of the options will be "send to bluetooth" (or something looking similar to that) and on your phone long press on the file you want send to the computer and something similar will come up . It's been a while since I have had to do that I can't think of the name right now. As long as you are paired this should work

Question: Verizon Cell Phone

Is it possible for someone on a Verizon cell phone family plan to send a text message to another member in the plan, and have it appear to have been sent by yet another plan member? I'm being accused of sending this message, but I absolutely did not send it. The above question is the only thing I can think of that could explain this. Thanks for your help.

Also, not only did I not send the text message, but I had been blocked from making calls or sending text messages to this phone. One member of the 5 of us in the plan is tech savvy.

Hi! I hope someone can help me. I can't find the drivers anywhere to install my cell phone so that I can download my own ringtones. I have searched everywhere I can think of with no luck. I have a UTStarcom CDM 7126M cell phone and an Acer Aspire 5920 Notebook with Windows XP Pro. My computer recognizes my phone but can't locate the drivers to install it. HELP!!!

Answer:Need cell phone drivers

You may try going to your cellular provider to see if they have a CD which should have come with your system. I have been searching the web but no luck yet. Will keep looking. You can try the website http://www.driverguide.com Free but you have to sign up.

I have a Galaxy S7 Edge with an Android OS on it. I have noticed that when I sometimes go on normal website through the Google app, it will redirect me to those pages where it says either "you have a virus" or "you won a million dollars". I have downloaded normal Antivirus software and ran with nothing there, but how can I check it deeper. It sometimes shows on websites I KNOW for a fact would never ever do that. Maybe hook it up to my laptop and run a scan from my laptop? Any apps you reccomend or things I should try? Anything helps!

Answer:Possible root kit on my cell phone?

What antivirus is running on the phone?

What you are seeing is malicious advertisements that popup. It is very difficult to avoid unless the website removes the ad.

I personally use a cable modem with a wireless router to connect my computers and gaming systems to the internet. For some of my games that I play online with my Nintendo Wii I have had problems connecting with my friends online. I read online forums and found that the fix to this problem is for me and my friends have to locate the IP address of our wii, and then go into my router settings and temporarily put the Wii outside of the DMZ while playing the game. I have done this and it works fine.

However I have one friend that uses his cell phone to connect his Nintendo Wii to the internet.

Does anyone know how he can put his Wii console outside of the DMZ using his cell phone. Sorry I don't know what the make and model of his phone is. Does DMZ settings only apply to wireless internet connections? Would using your cell phone to connect to the internet be considered Wired or Wireless internet. Technically there is a cable that runs from the cell phone to the Wii, but i would assume since it is a cell phone it would be considered a Wireless Internet Connection (or Satelitte Internet Connection). I appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have.

Just found out that the phone is a LG Venus and his carrier is Verizon.

If that Helps.

Answer:Internet thru Cell Phone

Well using a Cell Phone would be considered wireless. But i dont think that you can set it outside the DMZ due to the fact that you are not connecting it via a router. It is using the providers service. So i really dont think there is a way to set it up to work like that.

Your best option with that would be to contact the provider and see if there is a way.

My cell phone service offers two web surfing plans: one with 10mb and one with 50mb. In order to choose I need to get a sense of how many web pages will fit in each. If I use the service to surf to techist.com/pc how many times will I be able to surf to this web page per month for the 10mb and 50mb services? On average how many pages can I fit in 10mb and 50mb?

Answer:Cell phone web surfing

They're both really small by today's standards, I think.
Though just an example, this page is 13kb, not sure if that includes images. So u'd be able to view this page about 650 times on the 50MB (or is that 6500...?).

Wasn't really sure where to put this, because, well, it's about a cell phone. More particularly, communication to and from it.

I know this is a forum dedicated for the most part to PCs, but really cell phones are computers and becoming more and more like mini-pcs every day.

Anyway, on to the question.

You know how when a phone is about to ring or get a text message or something, and it's near speakers, you can hear it in the speakers? Well, I'm sitting here with me new phone, and though I keep hearing that (not really loud, but can still hear it), I'm not getting a text message or phone call, so what is being transmitted? It may be a little paranoid, but I'd just kind of like to know. I'm not really sure what all types of traffic is used for a cellular connection, but it just seems like unless I was actually using the connection for a call or data transmission there wouldn't really be that much traffic. Any ideas?

Not sure if it's relavent or not, but I don't use a "data" service, just voice and text (which I know is still technically "data", but I'm just saying, as the service provider would say, I don't use a data service).

My husband has swon not to buy any phones for me again. I had 3 cell phone Google spolt it all. The phone i had before, after much problem, had been given my son for practise . Because hacker, and scammer which Google tech engineers know very well, go into my phone, dismantle it, send wrong messages, make me dail wrong numbers tell me where my husban is, what he does. They have no right to survey my husband. They want to brake my home.
The one that pained me most was the lists of medicine and time for prayer alarm that they cleaned up.
I have other watches to keep my fasting dates but it sounds louder that wakes my child before time.
I can use my child's phone to answer my husband in his working place but he does not want me to use it on line. He wants me to use his own so that he can witness the problem too.
If our line is not careful, i will make him drop it just as i did with Tele 2.
He is also complaining and i have told him where the problem comes from. Any the he discovers it, we shall leave the line just as the change my gmail accout to Outlook while he mains Google, and Outlook too.
How can people be so crudle to make others wast money like that. This is cheating.

Do a Google search for the phone's instruction manual and I'd be willing to bet that somewhere there's a tiny button (perhaps under the battery casing) that will allow you to do a "Factory Reset" which may help your problem.

Other than that-- no clue. Good luck, though!

So I just moved into a new apartment. It's a really nice place, even has it's own fitness center for the community, a car wash, and free coffee (will explain later with pictures I shall post... but not in this thread...)

Anyways, the building's structure here totally messes up any signals inside the apartment except for right by the window of my room, I get a bar of 3G signal. (And I mean RIGHT there... like press the cellphone against the glass...)

So I went online looking for a cellphone repeater to buy... but there are so many models, many of them ridiculously expensive (or they seem to be...).

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for what to buy.
I just want to use my cellphone indoors... not out on the porch. I use voice, texting, and data services, thus I really would like to make it so that 3G signal from AT&T's tower gets there.
The apartment is 1400 square feet. (Yes it's huge, but there are 6 people living here though...)
I want to hopefully be able to use the cellphone relatively anywhere in the apartment.
If I can't have that, I'll settle for the 2 back bedrooms (mine and my mother / sister's bedrooms).

Any information on these things would be useful. I don't want to spend the 150 - 600$ and find out that it doesn't do what I want it to.

Question: Cell Phone Ringers

Hello,

According to my iTunes I am able to download music and then transfer it to my iPod. My question is am I able to create my own file to then transfer the music to my cell phone as a ringer? Do I have to somehow change the file extension, and what are the directions to transfer it to the phone.

Again, I understand if this is not legal, and I know you should able to tell me the legality. I was just wondering. As always you guys know everything there is to know, so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for you time and help,
Ben

Answer:Cell Phone Ringers

Yes, after you pay for music it is yours to do what you want with it (except copy and sell it/copy it and give it to another person)

I suggest 3gupload.com. IT DOES cost some money, but you can make your own wallpapers, ringtones and the such and upload them into your phone.

As for what type of file to convert it to, I would need your phone. Some higher model phones can play MP3. Others play a .mmf or .smaf format. Every phone is different
