I have an old Toshiba laptop and it is unusable and I was wondering if there was a way to factory reset it without a disk.

Preferred Solution: Reset My Laptop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Reset My Laptop

I believe there's a partition that contains the OEM setup, but you need a CD (any) and to recover from the Restore partition

Please connect a USB flash drive & then try again." What do i do to get the password protection off. I NEED HELP, PLEASE!! I'm really not sure what operating systems i'm running...can't check because i can't get on there lol VERY AGGRAVATED Please help if possible

Answer:Did laptop factory reset now need password forgot cant reset

How can you not know which OS you're running? You're posting in the Windows 7 forum so I assume it's Windows 7, but there are several editions - Home, Pro, Ultimate, 32-bit, 64-bit, etc.If you just did the recovery, how can you not remember the password that you just created? Are you sure you even entered one during the re-installation? Did you try leaving it blank? Why not just run the recovery again but this time, pay closer attention!message edited by riider

You haven't mentioned which model laptop you have so all I can do is point you towards the generic method of restoring it as shown on Asus's website: http://support.asus.com/Troubleshoo..."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

My laptop was running slow so I thought I would do a hard reset since I didn't have any important files on it. So I reset it and I got a blue screen error, then a listing screen with a popup box saying there was an error or my computer restarted and I should press OK to install. I found a solution online to get past the popup box, I don't remember what it was though, but now my laptop is stuck in a state of constant reboot. It goes like this:Blue HP Logo with loading circle,Black screen,Blue HP Logo,Installing and configuring Windows install screen that doesn't move past 64%,And then black screen. This process constantly repeats. Please help.

I used the media profile to download Windows 10 to a USB and everything worked fine but now there's another problem. My laptop was working after reinstalling Windows, but then I shut my laptop over and went away for ten minutes or so and I've came back to a black screen with no display at all. The white LED is on so my laptop is on. It has around 40% charge in it as of typing this. The screen is unresponsive. Please help again but thank you for helping me fix the first issue.

Answer:Re: I hard reset my laptop, error occurred and now my laptop...

Hi @kirsty_mcq17, Thanks for the update on your situation. I understand that you are now having issues with the display being blank and the system unresponsive. Have you tried doing a hard reset since the system stopped responding? If the system will not boot into Windows normally, let me know if you get any errors. You can also try using Safe mode. Once you are able to log back in, please make sure you download the latest HP drivers and Windows Updates. From what you described, it sounds like the system may have gone into sleep or hibernate mode. This document will take you through troubleshooting possible issues with those features. If you feel this post has answered your question, take a moment to click Accept as Solution. Thanks!

PLEASE HELP: A few days ago my laptop wasn't working very well. I was exploring my options and decided to reset it. I tried this and it told me there was an issue resetting it, so I tried resetting it again. Now the laptop will not fully turn on. It turns on and displays the hp logo then the screen goes blank. After a few minutes the hp logo displays again. All the function keys work but I can't find a solution. Could it just be the fan? Please help, my laptop is my life. The laptop is an HP Stream Model: 11-r010nr

Answer:Reset laptop, now laptop isn't working

Try holding the Esc key down while booting and the press F11 to run the system recovery.  If this does not work, you might have to boot from a recovery USB to restore the laptop.  If you did not create one, you can order one from HP.  If this has Windows 10 on it, you can also do a fresh install using the downloadable installation media from Microsoft.

Hi, Your Windows 10 key is still in the BIOS of your machine. My suggestion, re-build your laptop using Windows 10 installation media crtead from the following source      https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10 Please do not select Windows version other than the one you upgraded before otherwise the key won't work. The installation process will ask for the key, please skip and continue. Windows will activate when you come online. Regards.

Just bought a three week old Lenovo Legion y720 used. I drove out of town to get it, when I met the previous owner he had stated the reset but I couldn't wait around for 2-3 hours for it to finish so I shut it down and drove home. It said it undid the changes it had already made. The next day when I go to settings, recovery, get started, remove everything, all drives, remove files and clean the drive. It says getting things ready then is says There was a problem resetting your pc no changes were made. Not sure if I'm even doing this right as the previous owner started it last time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Can't reset used laptop

Sounds like the OS was really messed up when you shut it down.
The best that I can suggest is to contact Lenovo and see if you can get a set of System DVDs.

Is there a way to delete the user account and reset the laptop so the person who buys it thinks it is brand new? Apart from taking the tour nothing else has been loaded on the laptop.

Answer:How do i reset laptop???

A couple of things:

Log-in with the account you just created. Go to Start, settings, Control Panel, User Accounts. Click on the name/account and click remove.

If the above doesn't work... Re-boot laptop, press F2 until you get to a black screen. Go to Safe Mode (using the UP Arrow key) Here you'll be logged-in as the Administrator. Follow the above procedure starting from "Go to Start, Control Panel..."

Hello I'm Timothy, My Asus laptop is not booting up and directly takes me to the blue screen with "Choose an option". I attempted to reset it and I keep getting errors saying a problem occurred and couldn't complete the task. I have no images, discs, or restore points to roll back to, I've tried Sfc scannow multiple times and every time it says it has fixed problems and will appear on next reboot every time I use it.( I should also note that it does this fairly fast as it's known to take a pretty long time) Startup repair fails taking me back to the blue screen, as does refreshing it saying a problem has occurred like in the reset. I'm hoping there's some hope for me? Maybe some command prompt tricks or UEFI settings, you guys are my only hope, thank you all for your help.

I have an Asus notebook PC Intel Inside
Windows 8.1
Ram: 4 gb

Please tell me what else you'll need and I'll be happy to get it for you

I have tried doing a normal factory reset and have tried downloading windows 10 as an installable media from their website onto a flash drive and in both cases I kept getting an message saying an error has occured and no changes were made. My laptop has been running at 100% disk usage for the past few weeks and is extremely difficult to get much work done because it's so slow. I have trieddoing the disk scan using cmd that Ive seen on a few other forums and after it completes it says that corrupt files were found but couldnt be repaired. Even when I turn my laptop off an error also pops up and I usually have to click "ok" before it fully shuts down. I have assumed it was some sort of virus that may be causing this problem so I wanted to factory reset my laptop but every method that I've seen doesn't seem to be workng. If there is some solution I would be grateful because I've speant well over 10 hours trying to fix this problem but to no results. Thank you for reading this.

Answer:Can't factory reset laptop

Do this,  open the task Manager and look for the application that is using the highest disk resources.Try to disable it Also, open the services pagetap on the keys, Windows+R type services.mscIn here, look for windows update, open this and stop it.set the start proceedure to Manual. This should help in most cases. Also, at the time of pwoer up, press ESC or F2 button on the keyboard to load the UEFI Diagnostics and perform a Hard Drive test.If the Hard Drive is faulty, you may get slow performance as it may take a long time for the hard drive to read and write data. Resulting in 100% Disk usage.

Hi!  The 840 G3 appears to have a battery compartment that is secured by screws.  Sometimes there is a combination of keys that can be pressed that will simulate the function of a power reset (powering the laptop down, removing the battery, pressing the power button for a length of time to drain capacitors, replacing battery, and powering up) so that users don't have to remove the battery.  I've googled and found some key combinations for other HP products but can't find one for the 840 G3.  Does anyone know of one? Thanks!

Answer:How to power reset 840 G3 laptop

Hi, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome! I am not 100% sure if I understand you but I'll try to help. As mentioned by you and as confirmed by the product's manual, it comes with non-removable fixed battery. May be you want to perform hard reset to power off the computer >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NJQM8vJa9Q Why do you want to perform this you write about ? Is there some issues with Windows ? If so, have you tried restarting it (instead of Shut down) ?  Because in Windows 8/8.1/10 this process is by default different from what it was in Windows XP/Vista/7.

I have no idea what happened. I'm posting this from a 3DS so please bear with me... Last night, my Vista computer randomly started giving me problems. It would black screen right after the Windows loading screen. This black screen would stay for a long time until the computer would reset. After trying repeatedly, it finally started getting to the login screen, but it was slow as heck. It would take fifteen minutes just to load to the desktop from there, and absolutely none of my drivers would work. Typing stuff withun Windows would go at normal speed, and Firefox, while it would take forever to load, would run normally when I wasn't trying to open a new page or tab. Copying files to a USB drive would take twenty minutes just for a hundred megabytes. The only partition of my hard drive that would load was the main partition where Windows was. Windows Explorer would periodically stop working and need to restart. When the DVD drive suddenly started working again, I used the factory restore discs. The setup took forever to load, but from then things were normal speed, until it asked to remove the disc and restart so I could set up Windows. Once again Windows is taking forever to boot, and whenever it finally does, I get this:
Quote:

The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.

Answer:Laptop won't run even after factory reset

If you can, open a command prompt as admin, and type in the following:

chkdsk c: /f /r

It will say something about cannot lock the current drive, and to schedule it on next reboot. Type in Y and hit enter, and then reboot. It should run a chkdsk. If it says "disk clean, skipping check" just boot back into Windows, and re-run the command (have seen this happen a few times, just gotta do it a second time and it will go through). It may take a while to run.

I would suggest backing up any important files that you wish to keep before trying this, however, just in case your drive may be failing.

Hello, so I'm trying to reset a old D600 Latitude laptop to sell to a friend who buys old lap tops then resells them. Anyways I figured I'd make some small cash, however when trying to factory reset the lap top it doesn't work. I googled on how to factory reset some sites told me to hold ctrl and f11 when I did that all I heard was a beep then it goes to the window loading screen. Some sites told me f8 gave me no option to system restore. Anyways any help guys, my os is currently win xp.

Answer:Old laptop won't factory reset?

Looking at Dell's manual I don't think that computer came with a factory recovery partition. It seems to have come with an OS disk to reinstall Windows.

You can verify that by going to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management> and then select Disk Management in the left pane.

It will give you a window with a graph of the partitions on you HD. A recovery partition would be about 6-10gb. Do you see anything like that?

Edit: You'll probably have a tiny 7MB partition for Dell Diagnostics but that isn't it.

My laptop was originally having only a HDD. But when I went to the shop and bought it, they upgraded it to an SSD and that took a few hours.

My question is, can I factory reset my laptop? Will that harm any installations of my SSD? How do I do it?

Answer:Factory reset my laptop

A factory reset only resets the software & drivers to the default it was when it left the factory
The drivers would be based on the specified hardware, so you changing any hardware might cause problems. In most cases you can get round that by updating drivers as soon as windows has been reset. BUT with an SSD which uses different drivers, there will be problems.
The factory restore image will install or try to install standard hard disc drivers. That is very likely to result in the computer not booting at all. As far as I can remember W7 and W8 would not have had SSD drivers in a factory restore image because they were so rare at the time. W10 would almost certainly have both SSD & standard HD drivers on the image

Question: Laptop CMOS reset?

I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 on my hands. It's a definite problem child. Sometimes it recognizes the hard drive, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it sees the CD-ROM drive, sometimes it doesn't. But it is very sporadic and I have done hardware testing with Hiren's Boot CD. Everything seems to be fine. So one of my next guesses is that the BIOS or something is screwed up and decided that I need to reset the CMOS. But I have never done it to a laptop before and have no idea where to start. Help? Please?

Answer:Laptop CMOS reset?

Go to http://support.dell.com/support and then to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag number from the bottom of your laptop.
You can also click on Technical Support there to get a copy of your original configuration if you do not know it.
Then download the BIOS file: BR114952 for a floppy disk install, or I2200A07 or I2200A07.txt.
Read all the instructions, then go ahead to install. it is pretty safe compared to most other brands.
Also download and install your chipset drivers if your computer was built before 01/17/2006. In fact, I would download and install all drivers with release dates more recent than your purchase.
But be aware that you could have both defective hard drive and defective CD-Rom drive.

I have a basic laptop. I downloaded an emulator for some old school games. Noticed my internet was unsually slow and it almost seemed like I had no access. Wasn't a copyright claim either btw. I can't search anything. So I tried to reset my computer, and this "virus" won't let me. It closes all my settings whenever i go to the reset page. It does the same thing on airplane mode too. I deleted all the files I could involved with the emulator. Still it's roaming around. How do I get rid of it? Like this just is uneccessary. I'm a guy who smokes ganja so be easy on me with technicalities

Answer:reset windows 7 laptop help

Reset to factory settings will wipe all data so make sure any you need to keep is saved to external device.
Re store is usually is usually indicated by on screen display at boot up in the Acer welcome screen at bottom left or right indicating to press f10 or11.
This can vary model to model
If not clear 'Google' Acer model /reset
The system's is built in on 'D' drive, no extra discs required

I tried to do a hard reset of my stream 11. It failed no matter which options I used for keeping or deleting all files or for doing the full clean. It just kept getting halfway then saying there was a problem. I gave up the then find that the laptop will no longer boot. It powers on, shows the hp logo, then goes black and restarts. Over and over again. I'm stuck in an endless loop. The diagnostics available cannot find a problem for the start up issue.

I just bought a used laptop in which it belong to a student. She can't remember the last password she had and I want to reset it in order to administer my username and password.

Answer:how to reset a laptop computer

'She can't remember the last password she had'That sounds real fishy to me, people usually write down their passwords. As you said...laptop...that usually rings a stolen bell.If it is legitimate, you may contact the brand's homepage and check their tech support...I see that somehow you forgot to put in the name, model number of the laptop in question.Be sure to have the serial number for the support as they will check on it for you.Laptops have that built in security for when they get stolen so it cannot be accessed by the thief. If it is a bios password even changing out the HD will not work.I wouldn't bother trying to buy software to retreive the password or blank it out...they just do not work...get the person to rack their brain and come up with the password for you....they know which passwords they use, don't let her kid you.EDIT: Some new members will probably give you links to password cracks, but that is against forum rules ;-)Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

@Dylan7 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about nereding to do a factory reset and wanted to help -- but need more information.First of all, we need the detailed product number of your PC: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001Second, I see you're running Win10. Did the PC come preinstalled with Win10? Or, did you upgrade it from a prior OS to Win10?This is important as the recovery/reset method is different for the two situations. Third, there is no way you are going to be able to boot using a blank CD, so wherever you read that, does not know what they are talking about. We can proceed when you provide the answers. Thanks

When I had decided to reset my laptop, I had chosen the option to keep my photos. However, after the reset had completed, I had discovered that my pictures were in fact not backed up. These pictures are important family pictures which hold a lot of memories for my family and myself. Anybody know how I could retrieve them?

Answer:Pictures gone after laptop reset

Hi Ashley_F That's rotten luck! There are 2 options for you. 1. Download and install Recuva (click on the green Free Download button). When it runs select the type of file you wish to recover and enable a deep scan. This will take a few hours (depending on the amount of photos). When finished, it will display the results. Save any file found to a separate drive IE, USB memory stick. Some files may be unrecoverable. 2. Look online for a data recovery company - these are usually more successful, but can cost a lot of money. If you manage to get your photos back, make backup copies either to a blank disk or external HDD or memory stick and do this regularly. If you ever have any more problems, you'll still have all your pictures

Over the last few days, since I started using my Inspiron 3520 with Windows 10 on it after a hardware issue that arose a while back from my own doing, I barely did anything on the laptop before it started acting all crazy and all. I did have to do a hard Shutdown quite a few times when it seemed to freeze up on a black screen or at other times before this all started, but I'm assuming that had nothing to do with it... though it couldn't have helped.
I've tried multiple times to do a System Restore, only to keep coming up with an error code 0x80070005, because of some anti-virus program installed/currently running, when I have more than one installed (which I know shouldn't be done, but dunno which work or not at any given time). And now, I can't even do one to before this all started, as I've repeatedly kept trying to do while disabling certain services in Windows Task Manager. Because I tried uninstalling some Windows C++ Redistributable programs from other people who've had the same problem, where with some programs or whatever, I keep getting a "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect." message. And after I attempted installing the files I downloaded to fix this problem, I got the SAME message as I do for the programs that refuse to run.
So did I do/see something wrong in what I needed to do? As at this point, I feel like my only option is to reset my PC to its default settings (but keepi... Read more

Answer:how can i reset the password on my laptop?

What happened immediately preceding this? Did you use a software program to possibly set a hard drive password? It could also be a BIOS/User password. If you go into the BIOS Setup, use your Tab and arrow keys to find Security information and see if there is an Administrator/System or User password. If someone else has physical access to your computer, check and see if he/she might have changed something.

If you are regularly suing a Windows laptop, It's always a good idea to password protect it, even if you are its aole user. If you forgot your password at any time, you will need to reset it. You need to create a password reset disk being able to reset your password. If you know your password, but you just need to change it for security purpose, you can do that quickly as well.

Today I want to introduce the easy and simple way for you.

Create Password Reset Disk

1)Turn on your laptop.

2)Insert a USB flash drive or download other password key ( take windows password key 8.0 for example, http://www.lostwindowspassword.com). According to Microsoft, you can only create one if you are a local user. If your computer is on a network or domain, an administrator must reset your password.

3)Click the "Start" buttom. Click "Control Panel". "Open" user Accounts and Family Safety. "Click" User Accounts".

4)On the left-hand side, click "Browse" to browse Windows Password Key 8.0 image file. The file is usually located as the default. Follow the instrution. When completed, then you can access if you need to reset your password.

Reset password
Turn on your laptop and log in to Windows. If you cannot log in because you enter the wrong password, Windows will show a message that you entered an incorrect password. Click "OK"
Click "Reset Password"
Insert your password reset disk drive.

My laptop was working fine yesterday, then we had a thunderstorm last night. I was worried it might get fried because of the storm so I shut it down and unplugged it. This morning it would not power on.

It is a Gateway TA6. When I plug in the AC adapter the battery light comes on. It will not power on though. I found something about doing an ATX reset and I tried that. What I did was unplugged everything including the battery held down the power button for 15 secs then again for 30 secs (when I tried it a second time) I then tried just plugging in the ac adapter and tried to power it on, that didn't work, so I tried plugging in the battery with no ac adapter and that did not work either. I tried it both ways several times varing the amount of time I held down the power button. It has been plugged in all day so I know the battery should be fully charged by now.

Can someone PLEASE help me? I have a lot of financial info on there that I need to get OFF before we go visit family in a couple of days. I have some stuff backed up to my Free Agent Go, but not the updated stuff I need. Can anyone help? I would be SO grateful!!!! Thanks for reading!!

Acer normally has a click here to begin that process under a certain subdirectory. Because my Acers no longer carry that hidden partition or the acess menu -- I can't remember where that menu was. c:\program files or c:\program files (x86) might be places to start, if such have not been overwritten yet.

Hi all.  I have what is probably a simple situation, but I am having issues getting around it. We have an E560 laptop that had Windows 10 on it, and we reimaged it with a lower Windows Operating System.  When enabling BitLocker we get the error: Cannot take ownership of the TPM The TPM is defending against dictionary attacks and is in a time-out period. Error code: 0x80280803  We installed the TPM 2.0 hotfix, we tried to clear the TPM in the BIOS, and even reset the BIOS, but to no avail.  We left it like this for 3 solid days without touching it and we are still getting this error this morning.  We called Lenovo and they said that they could fix it, but would charge $200.  I am sure there is a way that I can do it myself, I just need the procedure. Thanks!

Hello
recently i upgraded my acer laptop to windows 10 .After using for a week and so i starting having problems with it my disk usage started showing 100% although i was not doing any task.
so i decided to switch back to my original windows 7 through acer e-recovery management . Now the issue is that i can not perform factory reset . when ever i click on that i generally get an error that i need to clean all my files from hard disk as it will not perform the task , although i have no files on my laptop as i took a backup of my files and deleted them from the laptop.
I am unable to understand what is the issue

Answer:How to i reset my laptop to factory setting

The process is different among the different brands and not having an Acer can't advise as to what theirs is. However, if you have nothing on it you want to keep you should be able to continue with a full factory restore, should be a prompt to do so. I've found in a similar situation that having made the discs when prompted was easier than doing it from a backup process.

Hi mods and fellow windows 8 users.

My laptop has been experiencing problems lately, and i'd like to start fresh. I realize there is an option to reset your laptop (deleting all your files and start new) but i have one question. Since my laptop came with windows 8, i have no installation disks for them. I've read in this article here, Windows 8 features a reset button: Re-install Windows without a disc - Liliputing , that the windows 8 image-thingy (im not good with computers so i dont know the correct terms) is "built in" to the operating itself. Would this mean that i am able to reset my whole laptop (deleting everything and set to factory settings) without having to bother with burning disks and such? If so, would it mean that this is as simple as clicking one button and letting the laptop do all the work?

I need confirmation from this forum. Thanks

Oh and i'd also like to know how long the process would take.

when running bios update from HP on hp g70 laptop, the screen went white and hung. had to take battery out to get machine to turn off. since then machine wont boot. power light and wireless light turn on via ac and/or battery but it wont even present the boot screen.

have tried all the suggestions I could find (win key +B, disconnecting cmos battery, taking out hard drive, hard resets, plugging in external monitor, etc.) nothing has worked. My HP G70 laptop, which was running fine before installing the bios update, now wont even start up. am VERY disappointed that a process and software provided by the manufacturer (HP) cause the machine to completely stop operating and that there is no way to get it back into operation.

By the way, the reason for the bios update:
I installed win 10 and it was up and running. A problem then surfaced when the computer lid was closed and the laptop went to sleep. it would not function once the lid was opened. had to take battery out and disconnect power to get it to start up again. going into sleep mode and awakening with keyboard/mouse worked fine until the lid was closed. the recommended solution was to update the BIOS which is what I did. The BIOS update started up and began running fine but then hung with a white screen.

I am hoping someone will have a suggestion on how I can get my laptop running again. I had hoped HP would stand behind their software, support and (what I thought) was a quality laptop, but they have said I was on my own... Read more

I have a windows 10 HP laptop. I was factory resetting it and my fiance accidently unplugged it. It wasn't charged so it died. Due to my inspiron15 Dell laptop running extremely slow, I did a factory reset to original factory settings. It worked fine and the laptop came with Windows 8. I decided to upgrade to Windows 10 using the free one still available from Microsoft for people who use disability functions (my mum uses magnifications). However, when turning on it gets stuck on the Dell Logo page with no bar underneath. I have attempted another factory restore as I have managed to get it to run automatic repair but it says that the partition has changed and there is no restore point to work from and won't let me continue. Can you please suggest what I may do to fix this problem?

This isn't really a problem, more of a curiosity. I tried to ask this once but my question kind of disappeared into the void. So I factory reset my asus laptop with windows 10 just a few days ago. About 10-15 minutes ago I noticed (ashamed that I didn't notice this sooner) that my background picture was the exact same as before the factory reset. This is a picture that I downloaded from my Facebook and set as my background. There's no sign of this picture still being saved. It's not in the Pictures file or anywhere else that I can find. So I'm just wondering how/why is it still the background picture even though it should have been deleted when I reset my laptop?

Answer:How did my laptop keep the same background after a factory reset?

So I'm just wondering how/why is it still the background picture even though it should have been deleted when I reset my laptop? It's because you have a setting attached to your Microsoft account to sync personalization settings. So things like lockscreen settings, background settings, and theme settings are all attached to the account. Since you use the same Microsoft account to log into the laptop after you reset it, it used the personalization settings associated with that account.

I bought a new Laptop (W7V75UA) last week. Used it once and it worked OK.  A few days later when I turned it on to boot it came up with a blue screen saying there were errors and to reboot.  I did but it keeps doing the same thing over and over.  I can't boot to desktop.  I want to reset it back to factory settings like I could with my old DELL by pressing F11 at at startup.  That doesn't work now.  It says I have to insert disks.  HP didn't give me disks.  What can I do?  Thank you.

Answer:How to reset laptop back to factory

The HP Recovery Manager that would allow you to run a factory image recovery would be in one of two places.  The first place is on the hard disk and can usually be accessed from the startup menu. Press the power button and immediately tap the Esc key. That should invoke a startup menu. One of the Startup menu choices should be F11 (System Recovery)   The second place is on the  USB Recovery media that you should have created by now. The most highly recommended type of media is a USB flash drive, not recordable media (DVD media). You can boot from the media when it is plugged into a USB port and access the HP Recovery Manager. If you did not create recovery media and cannot access the System Recovery from the Startup menu,  then contacting HP and ordering recovery media is likely to be your best option.

Hi all, Just yesterday I tried using my laptop, at which point it froze and I had to force it to shut down. After several failed attempts at switching it on again, it gave me the error message that it found no bootable device. Looking on the HP website, I saw that they recommended a hard reset, which I performed. However, now when I switch the laptop on it asks me to install an OS. I do have a repair disc, however I have no system image for my own laptop which I can use to resotre it (I do have my files backed up). I've tried using my brother's laptop's system image (we have the same model), but my laptop would not recognise it on the external hard drive on which it is saved. Does anyone know how I could get my OS back without purchasing a new install disc? Thank you in advance for the help! Extra info in case it is relevant: Laptop was purchased in Summer 2012Upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 in Summer 2015Have had no problem with Windows 10 until now

Answer:Hard reset laptop, OS deleted

Hi, As long as the previous installation of Windows 10 had activated Ok after the upgrade from 7, you can just create your own Windows 10 installation media and perform a clean installation as detailed in the guide on the following link.  Note: At the activation screen, select 'I don't have a Product key' - Windows will activate automatically once the installation has completed. http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/ Regards, DP-K

I wanted to reset my laptop back to factory settings then it was stuck at 99% for a couple hours so I decided to forcefully turn it off and back on again, now when I turn it back on it gets to the Windows logo and a loading symbol. This is on Windows 10, please help

Answer:Laptop will not boot up after system reset

Ok so I let the loop load and now it's come up with " Installing Windows " and at the bottom it says installing features and drivers then it also says configuring settings, so once this is done hopefully it goes smoothly, I'll update if anything goes wrong

Hello,

I?ve tried posting to reddit with no answers, so Ill try here. Therefore, ill just copy-paste everything from my post:
"Hi,Incoming wall of text.
I?ve recently bought a new laptop, and it?s been working like a charm for 2-3 months.
Suddenly, a couple of days ago, my PUBG started crashing, and causing my PC to BSOD.
I could see that it was about the same time as my Geforce 1060GTX had a new driver, as well as when Windows 10 had updated to KB4041676.
Anyway, I tried a lot of fixes (SFC Scannow, rolled back my Geforce driver, uninstalled Windows 10 update), and nothing helped.
Suddenly, my PC crashed as well in Rocket League, League of Legends and Divinity: Original Sin 2 as well. Thats when I started to get concerned, as I just thought it was PUBG being badly optimized and such.
It was a mix of crashes with no reports, crashes with in-game reports, and 3-4 different types of BSODs (Less_or_equal, system_execution and such and such, cant remember the specific ones)
So, for 3 days Ive tried everything (I admit im not that tech savy), looking at Event Viewer and googling the Event IDs for my crashes.
However, nothing worked, so I ended up using the Windows 10 Reset and reset my PC to standard builld (keeping my personal files though.).
Installed PUBG immediately, NOT updating windows - And it crashed after 5 minutes.
I have no idea what to do.
My specs are:
Laptop HP OMEN Win10 64-bit
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6GB
16 GB Ram
About dumpfiles and such, please be as spec... Read more
