Windows displaying wrong CPU label.

Question: Windows displaying wrong CPU label.

Not much of a problem but I don't know why my CPU icon in system info is different to what it should be. How do I sort this out?

Preferred Solution: Windows displaying wrong CPU label.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows displaying wrong CPU label.

What would you like the Icon to look like? If you are unsure of the specs of your computer,
Download and run Speccy. This will give you all the information about your computer. If you need help, in Speccy, go to File/Publish Snapshot, copy the link and paste it in your next post. You may be mistaken of what your specs are.

Hey all, recently installed Windows XP, and i have 2 Kingston 256 MB ddr ram, dual channel, and after installin and setting up XP, after right clicking My Computer, and properties, it is displaying 384 mb ram, where it should be closer to 512 mb ram.. will this affect anything, and if so, how can it be fixed. am running a GeForce 4 128 MB 4x video card atm also.

Answer:Windows XP displaying wrong amount of ram

Check your 2 Kingston 256 MB ddr ram. It looks like one of them is not 256Mb but a 128Mb. Try them one at a time to determine which is which.

I cannot understand why my X axis labels is the way it is on the 2nd chart. Below is the code to create two charts - including the arrays - so simply run the macro and two charts are generated - Hopefully making it very easy for you to visualize what I cannot get to work. The first chart is a Histogram - It has the X axis that I want. However I want the Histogram plotted as a curve - so the 2nd chart is the exact same data - exact same code - except for the '.ChartType' property. However the X axis is not the scale I would expect - I would like the X axis same as for my original Histogram.

I have posted this on other forums - but gotten no answers. I am using xl2007

Code:

Option Explicit
Public Sub AddHistochart()
Dim NumCharts As Long
Dim PlotValues() As Variant
Dim i, ii As Long
Dim frequency() As Variant
Dim binlabel() As Variant
Dim binsize As Variant
Dim minimumX As Single
Dim maximumX As Single
Dim NumBins As Long
Dim NumParameters As Long
Dim HighFrequency As Long

Application.StatusBar = "Making Histogram"
NumBins = 10
NumParameters = 1

ReDim frequency(1 To NumBins)
ReDim binlabel(1 To NumBins)

Call GetArrayValue(PlotValues, minimumX, maximumX)
binsize = (maximumX - minimumX) / NumBins
For i = 1 To NumBins
binlabel(i) = Format(minimumX + 0.5 * binsize + (i - 1) * binsize, "####0.00")

Answer:Satellite C50-A394 - wrong manufacturer label after Win 7 installation

Sorry but we don't know what have you done exactly and on which place you see other manufacturer name.
Where you can see this with Panasonic?
Have you installed Win7 using original Microsoft installation disc?
Do you use drivers from Toshiba support page?

I've been doing a lot of tidying up of my file types and associations, and one of the things that I have done is to ensure that all my most used file types have meaningful and accurate "friendly names". So, instead Explorer referring to .wv files as "WV File" it now says "WavPack Audio File". I've done this for numerous file types and it has all worked well and is correctly displayed in Explorer.

However, I also use Windows Libraries, and for some reason it is still using generic file descriptions, or older ones that I chose myself and subsequently updated.

I have done the usual things of clearing the icon cache and all other cache and temp storage. I've also completely rebuilt the index of the Library in question. I have even removed all folders from that library and deleted the top level library itself (then, after a reboot, recreated it by selecting 'Restore Default Libraries'), but as soon as I add my folder to the Library, the same old file names show up again.

I have done a thorough search of my Registry and some of the terms being displayed by the Library are nowhere to be found in the Registry (because I have updated every possible instance of the file type name) so it must be cached somewhere, unless its buried in some indecipherable format in the Registry that doesn't show up in search results.

If I click an incorrectly named 'file types' group in the Library, and then choose 'Open Folder Location' to look at the same files direct... Read more

Answer:Windows Explorer "Libraries" displaying wrong File Type names

This could have something to do with your user files. Are you the Administrator of this computer & do you only have one user account?.

Click on Computer & then click on your main OS drive which is normally C:\, then click Users, which should show your user name as one of the folders. Click on that & select your Documents files & see if the new names are listed there, if so you can create a New Library by clicking on Include in Library, from the menu at the top, & selecting Create New Library.

If all the Documents are correct as mentioned above you could copy all the Documents into the New library & then after checking everything is correct you can delete the old library.

If you have more that one user account, it's possible that all the changes are being made on one account & you are then trying to access them on another account, so you keep getting the old arrangement.

Ok, here is some thing interesting: My CPU speed under the System Properties seems to be displaying wrong. It says that I have a 785Mhz processor, which is of course wrong. It should be 2.8Ghz. When I use a program called CPUStabTest and look under System Properties it says 2.8Ghz, also when I use another Program it says I have 2.8Ghz as well. It is not really a problem, my computer is not slow and it still runs alright, I just want to know what the heck is going on? Why does windows say that I only have 785Mhz when I have 2.8Ghz I have AMD Athlon II X4 630 (Quad-Core)Thanks for you replay and help.

Why 785mhz? When its idle cpu mult and reference clock are changed(down) u can disable cool n quite if u want to run cpu at full speed all the time.

I recently changed my favicon on my self-hosted blog. But the old favicon is still showing up as the shortcut on the desktop of my laptop computer after more than a week. The address bar and tab bar are displaying the correct favicon in IE7. I am certain the problem is associated with my laptop computer because my desktop computer, which never “saw” the old favicon, is displaying the correct favicon as a desktop shortcut. Both computers are Dell and have IE7. I have done the following in an effort to fix the problem:

Removed all links in my favorite’s folder and all shortcuts from my desktop, then performed the below four bulleted steps below.
Removed all traces of the old favicon from all folders on my computer, then performed the below four bulleted steps below.

• Cleared my cache manually through IE7 tools.
• Flushed dns with ipconfig.
• Ran CCleaner.
• Rebooted my computer

Made sure CCleaner emptied my Recycle Bin.
Made sure the site address was not protected in my CCleaner.
After the above bulleted steps I saved the links again in my favorites and as shortcut on my desktop.
Did the first step a second time, completed the four bulleted steps again, and waited 24 hours before I added them back to my favorites and my desktop.
Set automatic dns flush to every 4 hours.
Completed a search on my computer, including hidden files and folders, and the old favicon was not found.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi! I'm using Win7 in portuguese (pt-PT) and the calculator has some some keys with strange symbols in them. So, instead of the backspace arrow, there's a rectangle, and the "x" was replaced by a square. In scientific mode it's even worse.

I've already restored windows fonts through the control panel. I've renamed the calc.exe.mui and nothing. I've even tried downloading an english version posted in these forums, but it didn't work. Even the language remained the same.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

On my laptop, on certain websites, the font is completely different to how I view it on every other computer/laptop. I cannot figure out what could possibly be causing this and was hoping someone here has a solution.

I have included screen shots showing the difference. I know it may sound really ocd, but it's generally worse on my eyes I find. All the main titles on websites (more than just facebook) are replaced by a horrible bold font and the general text on a lot of sites seems more narrow.

This happens on all browsers and only browsers, all other system fonts are correct.

Things I have tried so far but did not fix the problem
- connected laptop to another monitor and applied the max resolution of 1080p (my laptop screen is 1366x768, gpu supports 1080 tho)
- Gone into my internet options from the control panel and tried changing the font (and crossed checked it with other computers)
-Checked chrome's font settings and cross checked with other computers

The problem as been present ever since I got the laptop, its just really started to bug me recently.

Any help is appreciated, thanks

Why do my thumbnailed folders (with a folder.jpg inside of them) display random images that I never assigned to them? Is there are way to correct this behavior or is this just an XP glitch? Using Tweak UI I increased the amount of folders for XP to store in memory to 10,000 thinking that may solve the problem, but it hasn't.

It's especially frustrating since I spent many hours organizing my Music folders so that they display the correct cover art.
For example, why does my Radiohead folder, which should display an image of the band (which is in the Radiohead folder as "folder.jpg") assign an image of Cindy Lauper, which is in another folder?

I bought this computer a year ago and it came with Windows 8, which I upgraded to 8.1 and then 10. Today, I formatted my hard drive and installed Windows 7. This has caused some issues, such as with drivers.

Chrome is not displaying pages as it used to. Text is poorly aligned, often the wrong font, and there are these boxes appearing:

Here is how it displays in IE:

I have already checked encoding and it was using Windows1252 and I changed it to Unicode and nothing changed.
It's not a driver issue either as I already updated drivers and everything works fine in IE.

I'm having a weird issue with how a certain website is displaying in my browser. The font is all messed up, and I have no idea if it's an issue with my browser (Firefox), or my OS (Windows 7 32bit).

The site is buzzfeed. It displays fine in my other browsers, but in Firefox, one of the fonts is constantly displaying incorrectly - it looks like the wrong font is being used (it's using rockfont for some reason - which is on my system as a requirement for a pinball game I play).

Here's how it looks usually in Firefox:

And here's how it looked after I uninstalled the rockfont font:

And then just a few minutes later, it looked like this (while rockfont was still uninstalled):

Any idea what's going on with my fonts, and why it only happens on this one site, and only in Firefox? I'm using the latest version of Firefox, but this has been happening for months. After I re-installed rockfont, the page then went back to using that as a font, as in the top image.

Hi all,

I have got a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop that has been giving me a headache... It is more than 3 years old and came with Windows XP pre-installed. I ran Win7 (legitimate copy) on it for awhile (about 4 months) without any problems, then suddenly it would die while in Win7. Things like system shutting down by itself and freezing when displaying videos were common. Then it started showing “Memory Parity” errors. I tried swapping RAM modules but to no avail.

So I re-installed Windows XP with SP3. Installation was smooth and driver installation was in order. It ran ok for about a week before auto-shutting down again. Now it even screws up the screen during BIOS loading (when the Dell logo and progress bar shows) and when loading Windows (please see attached photo for crazy fonts/capitalisation during Windows Restore screen).

I am now running Ubuntu from it without installation (i.e. booting and running from the CD) and am encountering no problems whatsoever.

The Dell BIOS diagnostics would run while I was running Win7 and report no errors, so I’m trying to assume that there’re no hardware errors. Perhaps the photo might be telling to you experts out there.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

I'm seeing the following issue on Windows 10 Enterprise 1607. As you can see from the screen shot the "System" menu in the Settings App is being displayed wrongly. The 2nd screen shot shows a correct menu:

Broken_Menu
Normal_Menu
We're not seeing this on every single build so it's been quite difficult to pin point the cause. We are applying the en-GB language pack during the build process but if I revert back to en-US (the default WIM used) the menu goes back to normal.

Our build has been working absolutely fine until the last couple of weeks and I'm trying to work out whether something in the October 2017 patch release could have caused this. I can't find much online around this problem, has anyone else seen it?

Thanks
Westy

Hello, not sure if this is the correct area to ask, but I've noticed that my E drive's label is stuck as "OS Install" when there is no label assigned. I thought at first there was a label assigned to it and followed renaming labels option 3 on the forums (as a DVD drive was assigned to the letter). But when I assigned a USB drive to the E drive after switching out the dvd drive's letter, I noticed that it keeps the "OS Install" as default label instead of the normal "removable disk" when no label is assigned. This held true with the internal hard drive's partition as well. However when I assigned a drive label such as "CRUZER", it would change to the assigned label. As I like to have my E drive be the dvd drive, I don't want to see this weird label on it when I didn't assign it. If anyone knows a solution or can help me to try to find one, it would be great! I've attached pictures to explain better

On laptop computers the Windows certificate of authenticity is printed on a piece of paper which is attached to the bottom of the device. Unfortunately, the license key gets damaged and you cannot read it.

Is there some way to overcome this problem? Is there some kind of laminate plastic that can be used to cover the paper?

Thanks,

TC

ok.. it has been long since I bought my last OS

I bought Windows Xp pro way back then.. and the label you put on the exterior of the case was of plastic feel...

but now I get vista.. and the label feels cheap.. made out of paper..
it can be easily be ripped apart..

the question to microsoft is why... is just a little sticker.. and they have gone cheap there lol

Answer:Cheap Windows Label

Actually, the xp ones are like that now as well.

The plastic ones are long gone and there have been a few other revisions between those and the now "paper" like ones.

The new ones do hold up decently well though even though they seem like they wouldn't.

I have an older computer for my son it is running with Windows ME. He thought he would try to install XP on this computer and I can't get the computer to boot now. I am in the process of trying to erase everything and a question popped up. "Volume label (11 characters, enter for none)?" What do I do here. I am not an expert by no means. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Answer:Windows ME volume label

You can simply hit Enter for "none"...The Volume label names the drive itself but it is not needed and it can cause issues if you are ever trying data recovery and you've forgetten it.None is the better choice.

Hello, I'm a technician who works for an IT support shop who is a reseller of Lenovos.  We put a custom image on our machines, then just enter the key from the Windows COA (certificate of authenticity) label to activate the OS. This past week we received an m92p that is a Windows8 machine, but has the Windows 7 downgrade.  However, there is no Windows 7 or Windows 8 COA label.  My boss tells me that the Windows 8 key should work in WIndows 7, but like I said there's no label for either so there is no way for me to activate. How would I go about finding out the Windows 7 key (or the W8 key)?  We contacted our Lenovo rep, she said to contact Microsoft, but I fail to see how this is an MS problem. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:No Windows COA label on new M92p?

I had the same problem and found a site called windows-coa.com , they sent me small program by email, which revealed the key number which was actually in my hidden registry. Hope this helps anyone in. Similar position.

I have just got my hp laptop back from being fixed (the hard drive failed and a new one has been installed) however in order for me to get windows vista back onto my laptop I need the windows product license key (I think that's right).
The problem is that the label is so worn I cannot read it.

Could someone please tell me how I can retrieve this key?

I'd appreciate any help you can give

Many thanks

I have named my USB flash drives (G,H) in Disk Management, but they continue to be unnamed in Windows Explorer.

I've tried everything in this tutorial: How to Rename Drive Label in Windows 10 without success. The only thing that does work is to set a default label for each drive in the registry.

I've read several Win7 articles stating various USB problems can be resolved by uninstalling all the controllers under Universal Serial Bus controllers in Device Manager. Then restart and let Windows reinstall them as needed.

Question: Would this be a safe/reasonable thing to do in Windows 10? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Answer:Can't Rename Drive Label in Windows 10

Hi, try rt clicking the drive in file explorer.
Properties
Then fill in the label name (yellow field in my screenshot).
Note the name reverts to Removable Drive if you rt click the named drive, and click Eject.

(The one useful trick with removable drives if you use them for backups e.g. in Disk Management is to assign a drive letter late in the alphabet so they are most probably assigned the same letter next time (assuming nothing is using that drive letter) ).

Answer:T420s Windows reinstallation by COA label.

Hello and welcome,

That should work.  Don't enter the key during the installation.  Wait until the OS is up and running and then enter the key to activate.  It may fail but should then give you a phone number to call.  The call will bee automated and give you a set of numbers to enter to activate the OS.

Hi All,

After getting around to getting my laptop fixed i decided it was long overdue for a fresh copy of Windows XP.
After formatting the hard disk i can not find my recovery cd's!

So i decided to borrow my brothers Windows XP Professional CD, which im sure has Service Pack 2 built in.

When trying to use my Product Key from the COA label underneath the laptop it just refuses to accept it. :(
Any ideas? Am i using the wrong version of windows?

The label does say 'Windows XP Professional 1-2CPU'
Can i obtain recovery cd's from Toshiba or would that cost too much.

Any advice would be great, many thanks.
Regards
Jay.

Hi

Yes, this is possible. You can order the Recovery CD from the ASP in your country and it should be not expensive?

I?m nor 100% sure why the key from COA label cannot be accepted. Maybe you notebook was delivered only with XP home edition and therefore it does not work with XP PRO.

I often work on friends' PCs and if I have to reinstall the OS I prefer to give them a properly-working (not cracked) OS so I'm looking for some info on using brand-name PC COA keys to reinstall operating systems. Many times these are Dell, HP/Compaq, etc PCs that have a proper COA on the case.

Is there a sure-fire way to successfully install Windows using the COA/key label on a brand-name PC and getting it to activate properly without using a manufacturer's recovery disc for installation?

For XP, I had obtained an XP SP2 Home OEM disc that installed just like a typical retail copy of XP -- it asked for a key and would require activation. This disc lets me use the key on the COA and successfully activates where as with other XP Home discs they would not recognize the COA key as a valid key and I wouldn't be able to complete the installation.

Does MSDN have an ISO equivalent to this? Would it be a Volume License disc?

Are Vista and 7 as picky about which disc you use or can you basically use an Ultimate disc, enter in the COA key and it then installs the appropriate OS?

I have a C# program that uses the DYMO.Label.Framework to print a label with barcode Code39 object. The barcode is big enough to hold the data it prints(14chars) and it has never being an issue up to now. The barcode is center aligned and when it prints,
it only prints half of the barcode. I tried left alignment but still does not print the last 2 lines of barcode.

I have already tried everything on developers.dymo.com/2014/01/02/windows-8-1-barcodes/ but it still does not work. I also ran the SDK Dymo Label Framework samples with same results.
If I use the Dymo software itself (DLS) to print it, then it works as it should.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Over the years I have purchased software via eBay, Amazon and Ebuyer, including various Microsoft products.
Looking for an unused and sealed Microsoft Windows 7 (I already have two computers with W7 Premium), I was wondering what the difference is between the 'rare red' label and the more frequent 'blue' label Windows 7, usually in the Pro range.
Is it also worth buying the Professional, as a better general use option to the other W7 software packs of the lower or office packs?.

Answer:Difference between red or blue label Windows 7?.

Jock1e
That could be a possible answer, but the advertisements that I have seen, seems to state 32 or 64 bit version or both in the same package. Its just that on a couple of occasions the 'rare red' part was part of the sales pitch?.

Here is the tale of my foolishness and hubris.

I have been trying to format a partition I created on my harddrive for my laptop. I booted from a disk into a program called GParted (live CD version). I used this to format the partition I created. Then, once I had finished attempting this task, my lack of expertise in computing took it's toll. I chose the option to create a disk label on the partition. I mistook this operation for something innocuous. It gave me a warning of some sort, which I ignored since I didn't think would be a problem since the recently formatted partition would be empty. This operation took a few seconds (30 or so) and once completed the drive map above said 685 GB unallocated space (or the size of my entire hard drive). I was very scared at this point so I restarted my comp and booted to hard drive and all I get is a blank screen and a mockingly blinking cursor.

Now I am trying to see what my factory recovery disk can do for me. Using the windows recovery console I have attempted to repair this. Looking at the details, it runs a few tests. then sees that there is no valid partition, and tries to repair the partition. I restart and nothing has changed. Reattempting the repair just does the same thing and doesn't have any visible affect.

Although it looked bad at this point there is some good news. In the recovery console I have attempted to load drivers from the other recovery disk. When the window opens to browse the disk I am able t... Read more

Answer:i created a disk label and now windows won't start

What happened to your copy of Windows? Did you damage/change/remove the recovery partiton from the drive that replaces the CD that used to come with computers?

If you install 7, you will erase most of what is on the hard drive.

See if any files are still visible on that drive using a bootable CD or USB key. If they are (and this CD/USB key also has a recovery program), save them right away so that you don't have to worry about them.

Then, you can remove all the partitions and reinstall 7.

*******************************************
Parted Magic disk partitoning tool (Bootable CD image)
If you prefer a bootable USB key, download and run Linux Live USB Creator. Choose the Parted Magic distro, and it will download it and automatically create a bootable USB key.

This CD (or key) contains many useful tools. You can partition, recover files, recover lost partitions, make disk images (by several different methods), transfer files between media, scan for viruses (It can serve as an Alternative Trusted Platform for search and elimination of rootkits and bootkits), examine and benchmark hardware, access the internet, and much more.
*******************************************

Right now, I would concentrate on recovering files before they are gone for good.

You should use Windows tools to partition and format drives that will be used by Windows. In addition, Gparted may not support the new partition type used by Vista and 7.

I'm working on a pc that was purchased refurbished and I'm fairly certain used to be an office pc, it has the OEM type sticker on the side and the key is for "windows xp professsional 1-2 CPU" I'm assuming it's preservice pack and Am trying to find the proper image to burn in order to reinstall it.

The machine itself crashes if you try to get into safe mode in any way but works for a bit in "last known good config" untill a message appears saying it has to shutdown after several minutes.

When I'm at it's location next I'm going to run the recovery console as suggested in this thread: Windows xp laptop won't boot to OS gui

However does anyone know where I could find an image for the version of windows xp I need to utilize the product code on the sticker?

If not is there anywhere reputable to purchase new (obviously) copies of windows xp home or professional?

Toshiba provides an own recovery image which already contains the activated Windows system.

apparently the key on the label is the OEM key the manufacturer is obliged to give with an OEM product.

the ' embedded' key found with magicaljellybean is the volume licensing key that the manufacturer uses to bulk activate multiple PC's
Hi
not strictly a Windows 10 issue.

I did a product key search using jellybean on a Windows 7 PC I am about to upgrade to Windows 10. however the product key I obtained vqb3x .....etc is different from the product key on the sticker on the side of the PC.. .MMVJM....etc

just wondered why it is different ?
thanks

Answer:Windows product key on label differs to retrievd key

Factory Windows 7 OEM-SLP installs use a manufacturer specific key. Each Manufacturer has their own OEM-SLP key for each version of Windows 7 they ship on PC's. So for example, every HP model ABC PC that ships with Windows Home Premium will have the same HP Home Premium key. Those factory OEM-SLP installs don't activate online, they activate against a SLIC table in the BIOS added by that OEM. Those OEM-SLP keys are permanently blocked form online activation. That's so you can't use a key finder and try to use them on another PC. They will only work with the matching custom OEM install media. If you clean install Windows 7 and try to use that key it will fail activation. That's what the key on the COA sticker is for. It's a unique key for that PC only. Even then I think you have to do a phone activation the first time you use it. Just to make sure its being used on the PC it came with.

As far as I know those OEM-SLP keys are blocked by Windows 10 too if you try to enter one manually. You can't activate Windows 10 with one on a clean install. The ones on the COA sticker will work though. If you do an upgrade from a currently installed Windows 7 that is using an OEM-SLP key it will be accepted though. It just checks activation status on an upgrade and doesn't really care about the key in use. It's a legally activated install so you get a digital entitlement with your upgrade.

AVG slaps Trojan label on core Windows file

Some users of AVG were left with unusable Windows systems after the popular AVG security scanner software slapped a Trojan warning on a core Windows component.
AVG tagged user32.dll as a banking Trojan following a signature update issued on Sunday, advising users to delete the "harmful file". Users following this advice would be left with systems that either failed to boot or went into a continuous reboot cycle, according to dispatches from those hit by the glitch.
Users of both AVG 7.5 and 8 (free and full fat editions) were hit by the snafu. AVG has admitted the problem and responded by posting advice on how to recover affected systems (via its support forum item 1574 - here). The company has also updated its virus definition files to purge the false alarm detection from its virus signature database.
False alarms by anti-virus scanners have affected just about every security vendor at one time or another. The issue causes more inconvenience when Windows files are flagged as potentially malicious, as in this case with AVG, so its no surprise to find that AVG's support forums are filling up with complaints.
This is not the first such false positive AVG has had to fix. Its software wrongly identified CheckPoint’s Zone Alarm as a Trojan less than a month ago, raising questions about the quality control regime for virus definition updates released by the Czech-based firm, best known for the popularity of the cut-down ... As shown in this video (you might have to set the quality to 720p), you can switch on and off the drop shadows of your Windows 10 desktop icon labels.

However, after using the auto arrange snap window function (drag and drop any window to the left or right edge of your screen) the drop shadows are always on and cannot be switched off again. Only logging off and in again helps.

Can anyone reproduce this or knows how to fix it?

Answer:Desktop icon label drop shadows always on after split windows

Hi, Win 10 pro - can confirm I see that after using Snap. Normal function is restored if you restart explorer via the task manager.

Suggest you report it via the Feedback Hub app e.g.

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/drop-s...or-icon-labels
- gives a relevant registry key; maybe it can be 'fixed' or worked around using that.

I have two SATA hard drives, a raptor and a data storage drive. One day after I rebooted my computer I was never able to boot again when both of them were connected at the same time. It seems that when the data storage drive is hooked up, windows reboots without giving me any error messages right after the windows logo (screen turns black and goes back to bios). When it's disconnected, though, and only the main raptor drive is hooked up, windows boots without any problems. I've done the following in order to try to find a solution to the problem:
I've tried booting into a linux live cd which showed both hard drives with the files accessible on both (second hard drive is still working). I've also tried booting into safe mode which shows the list of drivers being loaded and reboots after the list as well. In addition, I tried doing boot logging which gave me the following result in ntbtlog.txt

Code:

Loaded driver \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\LHidFilt.Sys

Certain apps (it's seemingly only those not made by Microsoft) are completely impossible to use as they don't display properly. The bottom of the apps are cut off and the mouse cursor is not aligned correctly (You have to click to the top right of everything)
I can find pretty much no information about this online apart from this previous question and a thread on a gaming forum:http://forums.windowscentral.com/win...dows-10-a.html
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I have my screen set to a lower resolution, 800x600, and until now, have never had a problem with it. Some websites look a little different, that's been it.

Within the past week, however, some things are totally out of whack. Like a free email I use, the login boxes are little tiny, like 1cm x 1/2cm, and I can't login. Also, dictionary.com's page is totally out of whack. It is so out of proportion as to be unreadable. Also, I was just filling out a questionaire(sp?) I can't use dictionary to check it! Anyways, I was filling out the form, and one box where the answer should have gone was the same 1x1/2 cm box as the email login was. Any ideas?

I use IE on XP, never had any probs before, it's all within the past week and totally random as to what's messed up. Like I say, a free email login, dictionary.com, thesaurus.com, and an online questionaire. I'd really like to not have to change to firefox just for this, any ideas of what could be up, or possible fixes? Changing to regular screen resolution might be a diagnostic possibility, but I need this lower resolution to be able to see the screen good.

Thanks a lot guys

Answer:Windows not displaying properly.

Don't know if this will solve your problem or not, but have you tried going to View and increasing your font size? I run at 800x600 all the time, my font size is set at medium in IE, and I have never had that problem. Just a thought.

I got a dell desktop computer with windows xp. When I turn on the computer, from the startup, the computer is displaying nothing but symbols! The user names at the logon, all the file names and icons on the desktop, menus, they're all gibberish! I don't even know what I'm typing. Is this a virus? I tried to run the Norton Anti-virus but I can't even read what it's saying. Please help!

Answer:windows xp displaying all gibberish!!!!

You didn't state if this happened the first time you booted the system or after awhile (i.e. you'd modified things by installing stuff, etc.). I'd definitely call Dell's tech support on this one if it's the former. If the latter, I'd definitely suspect a virus and try running system restore to get back to a non messed up state. Have you tried booting in Safe Mode? You might also try the System Repair route if you have your original Windows XP CD.

Okay what it's saying is that Malwarebytes Secure Backup is doing something that is using up all your disk space here's how to remove them all.

Open Malwarebytes Secure Backup
Click on Advanced Tab
Click on Classic View
Expand the folder with your computer name on the left
Locate the file/folder you want deleted
Right click file/folder and select Delete

I have two shortcuts on my desktop each linking to a website. Until today i have been able to click on one, which displayed the web page in a window, and then click on the other shortcut and the other web page would be displayed in its own window. I could then arrange one window alongside the other and flip between the two.

Today, I must have inadvertently changed something because now, when I click the second shortcut, the webpage appears and displaces the first webpage. I can switch between the two using the task bar, but there is only the one window and this is not the behaviour I want.

I presume it is a Windows feature I have changed but I cannot see how.

My HP 2000 laptop is not displaying window (8). Solution please?

Answer:My HP laptop is not displaying windows (8)

If you don't give us any details on what is currently happening and has happened before this we really can't help you.  Notebook PCs not "displaying windows (8)" does not really make any sense. Try to explain it in another way, starting from the beginning.

Hello all,

well as the message title indicates my wallpaper has "disappeared". This has been a minor annoyance that I have been procrastinating on but would really like to fix it. I have tried to manually scan through and fix it by altering display settings and the like but to no avail. I believe it may be linked to a spywat/spam/hijack issue but have no real "factual" info to back that up. I am currently running Windows Xp, just finished installing all the latest security updates and all and no change. I am able to change the wallpaper using the normal "right-click" display properties but after clicking ok/apply the background remains whatever color has been selected in the wallpaper tab with no wallpaper displaying on top of it. I know the wallpaper is there becasue when ever I boot my system or shut it down I get a brief view of the wallpaper before the system shuts down. It is just not displaying while I am using the system.

Please any help to rectify this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am new to the Windows API. I am wanting to be able to display pictures and graphics in various formats, such as BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, etc and am having trouble. If I try and use Windows GDI, it will only be able to open BMPs. If I use GDI+, it can open everything but its incredible slow (re)drawing the images.

Any suggestions for another library or something for me to use to be able to display images correctly? I know DirectX is good, but thats over the top for what I am wanting to do.

Thanks.

Answer:Displaying Graphics with Windows API

Having a little google around led to this page:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd145023(VS.85).aspx

"On certain versions of Microsoft Windows, the StretchDIBits and SetDIBitsToDevice functions allow JPEG and PNG images to be passed as the source image"

On the other hand, if you did go down the DirectX route, it sounds like you'd only need the 2D elements like Direct2D or DirectDraw. Those are easier to code than a full blown 3D DirectX app. That will add another dependency to your code - a version of DirectX installed.

There must be a 3rd party/open source option...but I've not had cause to use it.

I'm using Windows Hello to sign in to my laptop (Surface Book). I would like to enable the local security policy for Interactive login: Do not display last user name; however, when I enable this security policy, Windows hello seems to disable itself.

Is there any way to use both this policy and Windows hello at the same time?
