PCI-E internet card not working well, Slow speed / Connection loss

Question: PCI-E internet card not working well, Slow speed / Connection loss

I got a:

PCI-E Wireless 802.11n 150Mbps Network Interface Card

So It somewhat works but only a 2 MBPS download speed I know that my wireless network gives off 30 MBPS as my old external wireless USB was getting, but that is broke.

With that broke all I have left is the internal card with slow speed, Unable to render youtube in HD.

Windows shows the internal card has a strong connection of full bars but still slow speed.

Tried updating drivers for it through device manager but none available, So why is it so slow?

P.S. There is room for 2 antennas but having the 2 in makes no difference as It still works with 1, strange.

Preferred Solution: PCI-E internet card not working well, Slow speed / Connection loss

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: PCI-E internet card not working well, Slow speed / Connection loss

Still got the issue , Tried Uninstalling the device and detecting the device again , result = Still slow

Tried looking for new drivers = none found

I believe my problems all started when my wife tried to open a video sent to her by a friend on Facebook. My computer is dragging and my internet connection is inconsistent. I'm receiving an SVCHOST.EXE error refrencing "0XFFBADD11". On my wife's sign on there is no internet connection, which I've tried to repair the connection. The internet connection list won't pull up on her sign on. I also keep getting notices from Spybot of registry changes.

So far I've run CCleaner to work on my registry, Desktop Doctor, Comcasts version of McAfee, Spybot, Windows Defender, and AdAware. AdAware is the only one that found anything and I quarantined it. Since then my ability to access the internet has improved on my sign on. I just downloaded HiJackTHis and below is a copy of my results.

Can someone please tell me what my problem is and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks,
Will

I am having a great deal of problems with my computer running slow, cpu maxing out and continuous IE errors and shut downs (of IE). I've attached a hijack log and would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Yesterday I rebooted to safeboot and ran SDFIX, Malwarebytes, ARO, Microsoft Safety Scanner, Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and PC_Cleaner_Pro. Basically every cleaning tool I have loaded. Not sure if I'm just running too many things.

My Antivirus tool is McAfee.

I mostly use my computer for email, facebook and facebook games. I have a lot of problems with games either not loading or locking up and shutting down IE all together.

Attached is my hijack log.

Hi I was hoping someone here could maybe give me some insight to a problem that has just occured. Earlier today I was using my laptop and there wasn't any problems at all, but I have returned to the laptop now and find that the cursor is not responding to anything I do on the mousepad.

I also noticed that the symbol for internet connection is showing as if it has never been connected, with a red cross through it. I restarted the laptop in safe mode to see if this helped, and the cursor responded to my actions using the mousepad, however when I restarted the computer, this time in its normal state, the same problem reoccured.

Really hoping someone can give me some insight to the problem and a possible solution, first time this has happened

Answer:Mouse touchpad not working and loss of internet connection

On my Dell laptop, there is a key-combo that turns the mouse pad on and off.
(Fn + F5)

I can also turn the wireless radio on and off via a switch on the side of the laptop. Some laptops use keys for that, others use software and some have no easy way to turn off the wireless radio.

Okay it's safe to say when it comes to things like this, im pretty much useless!

For the past 2 weeks now my internet has been running incredibly slow, never had a problem with it in the past. I have checked the firmware of the router (all up to date) reset it god knows how many times and its just not improving in the slightest.

I have also took my laptop to a friends house (make sure there wasn't a problem with that) and it was running completely fine! It's driving me insane, safe to say BT are no help at all.

My current router is: BT Home Hub 3 - Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.94.1.37 (Type A)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I should also add, we use several devices with the internet and it's running slow on all of them (iPad, Mobile, Xbox). I did think maybe we are using too much, but even when a single device is connected its as slow as ****. So yea!

I have a system which is 6 months old and relatively high spec. I run XP for Home, use Norton Internet security and anti virus.About 6 weeks ago I was able to log onto the internet and get a speed of 44kbps. Then it slowed down to usually between 28-33kpbs. I've been in contact with Wanadoo (got the run round) who told me to get BT check the line for faults (no problems), and increase the line gain (not sure what that does). Not sure where to start looking to sort this problem out. Can anyone give some advice as to what to check.

Just recently started to notice the speed of my connection has greatly slowed down! I am on a desktop PC that is using a linksys wireless USB adapter to connect to my router. I looked at the speed and it was like 18mbps when it used to be like 54mbps. Now my laptop on the other hand if i have it right where i have the same desktop pc connects to the router and receives a speed of 54mbps. Whats going on here? why did my desktop pc suddenly get slower? Its prolly just a coincidence but right after I installed frostwire it seemed like thats when it got slower. (no frostwire isnt running and thats not why it seems like my connection is slower). But there isnt really a way that an application could cause my actual connection speed to slow down is there? The only thing that i can think of is that my linksys wireless usb adapter is going bad or something? does anyone have any ideas, or suggestions on what is going on here??

Hello,

So i come from a different house with 24mbps download speed which worked perfectly. a day after i went to another house and connected to the internet and i was only getting .20 mbps download. my siblings were getting 6 mbps download. we were all using wireless connections.

My operating system is Windows 7 64 bit.
We are in the same room when we are connected to the internet.

Ive run virus scans

system restore

going 1 inch away from the modem

all these didnt help.

i believe the isp is comcast and my internal wireless card is Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter

My siblings card is atheros.

If you know how to get my speed up to par thatd be much appreciated, thanks

(All drivers are updated and i never have a lot of programs running at the same time.)

Hello guys, I bought a new laptop a few days back, but the internet has not been working as it should on it.

I can barely connect to the internet, and the signal is really weird. If I sit in my couch with my laptop the internet is barely working, though if I move about 10inches it will start to disconnect, reconnect, acting up, or not even work at all. Even if I move even further away I can still see my internet coming up on the list over available internetconnections.

I'm using an Atheros AR5B97 Wireless Network Adapter, and whenever I try to troubleshoot my internetconnection a message saying "Problem with wireless adapter or access point - Fixed"

After running a troubleshoot and getting this message the internet will reconnect and work properly as it should be for 10-20 seconds, before returning to act up.

I have tried to reinstall the driver (latest version, atleast windows says so, but couldn't find any newer version online so I guess I'll have to trust windows on this one (?)). Also been trying diff. settings on powersaving, etc, but with no results yet.

I've had several computers, much older ones, all able to connect to my internet with no problems at all, no matter where in the house I would be.

Help. :-(

Answer:New laptop + slow internet connection speed ++

Whats the make and model of laptop? With this information we can try and find the correct drivers for you. It's all ways best to get the latest drivers from the actual vendors and not through MS updates.

Also, there could be some sort of interference from other appliances and electrical wiring.

What type of router are you using? Have you tried changing the channel on the router?

Hi,

About 2 weeks ago I noticed my internet connection (DSL) was much slower than usual. My ISP (Verizon) assures me the problem is not on their end. The download speed is as expected (~1300 kbps), but the upload speed is just ~8 kbps and should be much higher than this. They suggested there might be a spyware problem.

System info: Dell Dimension 4600, 2.8 GHz Pentium4, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HD, Windows XP Pro (SP3), running Norton Internet Security, AdAware Free Anniversary edition, Spybot Search&Destroy.

HJT results below.

Questions:
1. Is the slow "internet connection" the result of the slow upload?
2. How can I fix the upload speed?
3. Do I have a malware problem?

Thanks.

I need your help!!! I got a real challenge for you! I am confused! I cannot locate the Internet connection loss source. Every night for the past 5 late evenings my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit has been losing my Internet connection on my desktop computer anywhere between 8 PM-12 AM (Last 3 nights: 11:05 PM, 8:55 PM, and 10:12 PM). I am on the computer most of the day and evening.

I would be working on something in the evening and when I load a web browser (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox I use.), I get their prospective home pages not to load. I would get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" from Internet Explorer and "Server not found" from Mozilla Firefox. I also notice my e-mail client's e-mail's visuals will not load too at the moment of Internet loss.

Here are some things I have observed that make it hard to identify the issue:

1. My cable ISP states via their tech. support representative according to their system that I have a connection with no issues when I have no connection.
2. My cable modem shows normal signals on the LED at the time of no connection.
3. My wireless router shows normal signals on the LED at the time of no connection. This is completely hardwired home network. I have no wireless connections.
4. The motherboard/back side of tower's Ethernet port's 2 LED lights near the plug are both lit okay at the time of no connection.
5. I have VOIP service with the VOIP box's LEDs are normal at the time of no connection. This i... Read more

Ok, so the problem. I am able to connect both the laptop and the desktop(new) to the internet through my modem and what not. I recently built a new rig. I installed Windows 10 on the M.2 SSD, and installed Windows 7 on a separate SSD. Install went fine, installed all the board drivers and activated this copy of Win7.

The trouble: As soon as I try to download a file, the internet connection speed drops to nothing. I can browse the internet just fine. At first, I thought it was a problem with the Intel network adapter, so I purchased a USB wireless adapter, installed it, and, the problem persists.

I tried running speedtest, and the speed starts out fine, right where it should be, but within 15 seconds or so, it drops to nothing.

Literally, ANY file I try to download starts downloading fine, and then nothing.

I've turned off Windows firewall. I've tried running in safe mode with networking. I've uninstalled my virus protection all together.

I'm at a complete loss....any suggestions would be appreciated.

EDIT: Everything works fine on Windows 10, btw....forgot to add that.

Hello all,
I'm hoping someone can help me. This is my first post. I have been fighting my internet speeds for several weeks now, and Verizon wireless has not been any help. I have a HP Pavillion running XP Media Center. I use a wireless usb modem like you would on a laptop, only I use it on a desktop, so it never moves. I have great cellular signal with it, but my speeds stink up the place. I test at speedtest.net. I have run spybot S&D to try to clean up any spyware (didn't find much), I have run Windows Definder. I have done all the normal disk clean up, scan disk, ect. Here is my HijackThis file:

Hi there,

My computer has been running slow for few months now despite having a high speed internet connection. I have tried to fix it by having its set up changed. It didn't fix the problem. It was working fine but one day it suddenly started running slow. At first I thought it must be a problem with the servers of my network provider but that wasn't the case. I've called the cable company to check several times but they said other users were able to use internet in full speed without any problem. I noticed the problem by trying to watch videos from various websites and after this problem occurred, they started loading super, super slowly. It has gotten to a point that I can no longer watch TV shows, movies, and other videos. The only video website that works is YouTube and even that doesn't function completely normally. Only most YouTube videos work without getting stuck too much. Another thing which I must mention is that quite often the internet cuts off in midst of browsing sessions and it doesn't reconnect without restarting the computer. My computer is a Dell laptop pc with Intel core i5 processor. I suspect that maybe my LAN card has worn out and it needs to be replaced. Although, I have been told by some computer technicians to not to do so. But they weren't able to give me any solutions. So here are my questions:

1. Should I get my LAN card changed?
2. If I should get my LAN card replaced, what model do I need that's compatible w... Read more

I have a cable modem going to a router, thats connected to 2 computers and then another router, which is in turn connected to 2-3 computers, will there be a connection speed loss for the second router?

I'm wondering if there will be a loss in anything because of a router connecting to another router before the cable modem. I am computers 3 and 4, and it seems like I've been having internet troubles since the recent setup. (Running Winxp on 3, and Mandrake 10 on 4). I come home from work, and the XP machine has no internet connection. (Linux usually doesn't either.) AIM won't connect and Internet explorer tells me I have no internet connection. I have an IP address from Router 2, and doing an ipconfig /renew gets me the same IP. I try to connect to the router, and sometimes I can, sometimes I can't.

Maybe I'll try swapping wires around when I get back home today. But I guess I'm just wondering if this setup is ok.

Answer:Is there a loss in connection speed with the following setup?

Obligatory dumb questions:

1.) Are you both on the same subnet? I've had a bunch of issues daisy chaining router/switches that are on different subnets when you can't specify a routing protocol or default route.

2.) What port is it connected to on Router2? Is it connected to a switchport or the WAN input?

3.) If you swap out the cable from Router1 to Router2, do you still have issues?

Truthfully, I know you don't want to run cable. You probably could get this to work with a bit of troubleshooting...but for the sake of ease, I'd just get an additional switch and run the wires. Theoretically there should be no signal loss as long as your total per-cable run before a repeater is < 320 ft. (328 to be exact, but patch leads should be no greater than 8 - 9m). I'm thinking that the segment between the routers might be bad. Is there any interference (fluorescent lights, microwave, magnetic interference) between the two routers that could weaken the signal?

Hope that helps or at least gets the gears working. =)

It might not be anything. Just a temporary loss of bandwidth on the phone line, but I was fooling around with some Firefox tweak utilities and, at the same time, had just installed AntiVir antivirus, when I noticed that my online bits per second had gone from about 45000 to around 31000.

I am using a dialup connection and trying to fix up this older computer for my neighbor, but this bothers me! Like I said, everything was working fine even after I tweaked Firefox, but it seems like when I installed AntiVir, things changed.

By the way, the tweaks I used for Firefox are "Tweak Network Settings" and "Firetune". But what else controls the BPS settings in Windows XP. Is there something I could have messed up in Network Connections or something? Maybe deleted too many registry entries with RegCure or what not?

If I can't get my dialup speed back to 45000 BPS, I might uninstall, then reinstall Firefox, maybe even uninstall the antivirus! By the way I have set up a manual network connection. I am not using any dialup software from AT&T.
And I'm just using Firefox, not IE. Suggestions are welcome.

I recently signed up to a high speed (actually a high speed lite) account with my local cable provider. I'm running XP pro on a 1 gig AMD with 526 Meg Ram. I don't have a network card, so they provided me with a cable modem that hooks up to one of my USB ports (the Terayon TJ615). My problem is ... I keep losing connectivity on a regular basis. The modem seems to be working okay .. the "online" and "link" lights are shining. I've disabled all of the power setting in windows. I can't find anything in the BIOS that would be causing the problem. I've made several calls to the company help line ... we've tried a few things, but nothing seems to be working. They point out that the modem seems to be working fine, and there's not a lot more thay can suggest (other than buying a network card & seeing if that helps).

Can someone please help????

I've got brand new X220 with i5, and 6-cell battery. The problem is that the internett speed is ok the first 10-15 min,  but after 10-20 min download speed seems unstable and slow. Does load constant if i stream or go to a page.  I have tried several method in order to fix my internet problem. Without luck I have tried:Updating the driver, updating the BIOS, tried to change channel in modem, i tried to set AUTO under wireless settings, i have tried to have the charger in and whitout, I have tried with wireless-usb-card, One interesting fact, when i sit very close to the modem, the speed becomes good and stable. The speed is also good on different network.  Also with Cabel it seemed good. What can be the problem, and how can i  solve it? i have wireless card Wifi Link 1000 BGN 802.11n with channel for brand 2.4.

All right, this one might be a doozy, but I'm confident that you guys can help me out. I just spent a good 30-45 minutes reading some of the threads here and I think I've found the right place to take my problem. I've seen some threads with problems similar to mine, but I wanted to ask my own question so that any advice I get is specifically based on my problem. So here goes...

About a month and a half ago, we finally moved into the present and got a high-speed internet connection through Comcast (who also gives us cable television). For the first several days, the connection worked fine with no problems, but then it started to happen...the modem started to lose the connection intermittently. The lights on the modem (a Motorola SURFboard) would start to flash. Usually, the ONLINE light goes off, and the SEND light flashes, but sometimes both of them go off and the RECEIVE light flashes. The POWER and PC/ACTIVITY lights wouldn't change. Sometimes, the connection problems would happen with all of the lights working properly. When it first started to happen, I just jiggled the cable wire a little bit (the wire connected to the modem is an extremely long one that connects the modem to a splitter which connects to the main cable line [the other wire that runs from the splitter goes to my TV]) and the connection would back. After that worked a couple of times, though, the problem would return and then my method wouldn't work that well anymore. It got to be... Read more

Hi, I'm writing on the behalf of my brother, who's (desktop) PC is in the room as I write this on my laptop. We usually share our internet connection (I am still using it), but he is no longer able to connect.

In the past, he has gotten a "A network cable has been unplugged" message several times in seemingly random intervals, restarting his PC would usually fix this.

However yesterday he got a message: "This connection has limited or no connectivity" and his game (AlienSwarm at the time (through steam)) stalled out and he decided to restart the PC yet again, only this time after the reboot, he not only wasn't reconnected to the internet, he also couldn't find the Local Area Connection icon(s) in his Network Connections window, the only thing there is a "1394 Connection" which we have no clue about.

I'm gonna add my skype here if any helpful people need more info on this :P Feel free to add jaan.stern

Also I put this in the XP forum, because I wouldn't know which Network support subforum to use!
Thanks!

Answer:[SOLVED] Loss of internet connection, along with missing icons in Internet Connection

1394 Connection = firewire.

Start from 'go', ie, in Device Manager, uninstall his network adapter then reboot and set up a NEW network connection.

BTW - did he have any ports 'forwarded' etc?

Hey there guys. So here's my problem :
I've been experiencing in the last 5-6 months a progressive loss of internet speed. I've called my ISP tech support and they told me to do a reset to the modem for about 10s. It worked lol. For about 1 or 2 days -.- Then it went to it's same position again, a low speed internet. My package grants me 10mb/s and in my isp speedtest it gives my the 9.75 mb/s of download speed it should give and a lame 0.20 mb/s of upload speed. The thing is that when im downloading stuff, it gives me a speed of like 67kb/s, when it should give me from 600kb/s to 1mb/s. I dont know if it can be the modem or the router but one thing is granted, im losing allot of internet speed. My modem is the ARRIS Touchstone TM502G and my router is the SMCWBR14S-N2.
The house internet is used by 3-4 people, but only 2 of them require more internet, because of the online games. Even though only mine requires more, because the other's games I dont think it requires too much bandwith.

What should or can I do to fix this please? If you need any more information please tell me.

Thanks

Hello, I just recently (last week) built a computer. I am currently using a year(ish) old Belkin N150 wireless adapter, as my motherboard does not have built in wifi. My download speed is significantly slower than my girlfriend's laptop, and sometimes ping tests show up to 75%-100% packet loss (it's kind of off and on, seemingly random). I've tried fixing the issue on my own to no avail. I'm really far away from the router, but I don't think it's an issue because it consistently says I have 3-5 bars. My next step is to purchase a new adapter (this one seems pretty cheap). It may also be an issue with an "network icontrol" feature on my motherboard. I'm gonna go through this thread and throw all the information from ipconfig and ping tests in here. I would really appreciate any help at all, I'm not very good with networking... at all ;.; thank you!!

Edit: Router serial number is 10a10c6b230553 and the modem s/n is 214775451

I'm having some serious issues with my internet speed. I am on Virgin Media 60mb with the ISP provided router. We have 4 computer connected via wires and several wireless devices. In the last month my computer has been suffering some serious internet issues.

My regular connection on speedtest.net would give 55-60mb/s, in the last month after downloading or streaming video online my internet connection would become unusable and sitting around 0.08mb/s.

All the other computers and devices on the router remain fine.

I have tried updating drivers, re-installing network devices, resetting network settings and 2 different NICs. I've also reset the router repeatedly and also tried disabling the firewall.

As a last ditch effort I re-formatted my computer and re-installed Win 7. The connection worked fine for a while until I was re-downloading some software and the connection went again.

Like I previously mentioned I have tried 2 different NICs, 1 wired and 1 wireless. The issues remains on both. I've run out of ideas.

My computer has two network adapters connected to two different internet gateways. One is Ethernet and the other is WIFI.

The Ethernet connection is first on the access order list (if you don't know what I'm talking about, see the image attached) and the WIFI is second.

Today, the internet access was lost on the Ethernet connection, however internet access was still available on the WIFI connection. In spite of this, Windows and all other applications were sill trying to use the first connection, instead of switching to the one with internet access!

What I want to know is, why, for example, when only the internet access is lost on one adapter (i.e. the adapter is still connected, (has an IP) but no internet gateway or DNS server address(es) are available), Windows doesn't fallback to the other connection, which has internet access?

In the same sense; why can't Windows 7 divide outgoing connections between all internet-connected adapters, and utilize two separate bandwidths?

Thank you very much!

Frequently i lose the connection after periods of 1 hour to 2 days and have to reboot the router to retrieve the internet.
I have contacted my isp who advised that the modem was ok.

In network connection i have listed (1) Internet Gateway, (2) a net adapter which is not connected and (3) a local area connection which is connected.

Your advise would be appreciated.

Hello,
I have a problem that my computer cannot connect to the Internet. Here is my story:

My computer was infected by spyware. I used "Malwarebytes" to scan and remove the spyware. After that my computer could not connect to the Internet. I check the property of the network card (3COM on-board), it indicated the card works properly. Then I checked the error log, it showed that the network card could not get DHCP. I checked my router, it works fine. Other computers in my house are able to communicate with it.

So I stucked. Please do you have another alternative way, advice me?

Thanks

Answer:loss of internet connection

What modem do you have?next time you speak to them ask them what your Downstream SNR is. It should be >30db.If you have a Terayon Terajet modem I would bet that your SNR is low and the modem is dropping in and out of service. They should come and sort out your install and get your SNR >33dB, but they will probably just change out your modem for a more resilient model.

If I unplug my computer, the next time I try to go online I cannot get a connection initially (I can eventually). If I leave my computer plugged in but turned off, I have no problem getting a connection. Can I rectify this and unplug the computer and not have any connection problems the next time I go online?

Answer:Loss of internet connection

dreary, Welcome to the CH forums. I am puzzled as to why it is that you are "unplugging" the computer so much? Is it an attempt to avoid power surges or what? The answer to your question is most likely to be that when plugged in though "off" there is still power available to the computer and some power requiring processes are still maintained. Therefore when you disconnect all power that is not occurring. Not knowing what kind of ISP connection mode you are using makes it difficult to determine how much of a factor this might be. Perhaps with more of an explanation as to why you feel compelled to be unplugging the computer might elicit other options for you.truenorth

Hello,

First, as a new member, I would like to thank those of you here for the help you give. Unfortunately, I have encountered a situation which requires me to be more than just a lurker (others seem to have much more knowledge and better opinions than me).

I have a D-Link WBR-2310 router which I have not had any problems with. I ran one desktop and one laptop hardwired and one laptop wireless. The laptop I used that was hardwired was solely used for downloading via torrents and ftp. Recently, it died and I started using my desktop for my downloads. Almost immediately, I started to lose my internet connection while downloading torrents or ftp files. The problem has grown worse as I will now lose connection simply surfing the web using my desktop. The wireless laptop, however, has had no problems. I can lose hardwire connection with my desktop, plug in my wireless laptop via hardwire, and it works perfectly. I have tried different ports with my desktop, put in a new network card, and used a new ethernet cable...all with the same results--loss of connection. I have also connected my desktop directly to my dsl modem and lose connection. I called my isp and verified my settings. I am left with the fact that my desktop computer is the problem.

I have ran diagnostics with AVG 7.5, Ad-Aware, and others looking for trojans or viruses--nothing. I ran HiJackThis and will post the results at the end of this message. Nothing has been downloaded or installed on my desktop in the past ... Read more

Dear fellow experts,

I have just run this program earlier and after the desk top reboot I could not connect to the internet. I have run a check on my computer found the the IP address show 0.0.0.0.0.

what has happened? I have called the service provider the technician claim that the cable from the modem to the computer need to be replaced. but I have used another cable, having done the IPCONFIG still finds the IP address not available. Currently am using the same modem connected to a wireless router, with my laptop the modem is working, but the desk top is not...

need help and advice on how to go about in getting back the IP address back into the desk top.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Loss internet connection

Have you triedd setting the connection up anew, using the XP wizard for such?

FWIW: When using a router, the router is referred to as a residential gateway. When setting up the connection anew, that's the option that should be selected.

I support a small business with 6 computers(XP) wired networked to a Cisco router and connected to an ADSL WAN. For over a year now they have experienced an overnight loss of Internet connectivity requiring the router to be rebooted almost every morning. We thought it was a fault router so we replaced this with a good Cisco router, but the problem persisted. We got Cisco involved and they monitored it without finding fault, but they replaced it anyway. We also replaced our ISP but all without avail. I use a combination of pcAnywhere and Logmein to support them over the web. The strange thing is that I am always able to connect to their system, but when the fault is apparent, I can't get web access to their router internally or externally and they can't get Internet or e-mail access. The router is my DHCP server and each PC is DHCP mapped in it. Cisco have looked at all the settings of the router and they say they are good. ANY ideas your experts may have would be great.

Good day.. I have been plagued by this problem for several months. I have installed the SP3 of XP. This problem started occurring some time after that. The problem is this: After several hours of operation I can no longer connect to to the web browser, either IE7 or Mozilla. I have to shut down the computer and restart. I have been looking for information everywhere but have not had any enlightening information. I would appreciate some information for me to get an idea of where the root of this problem could be. I have Zone Alarm installed but this problem still occurs when I have removed the program. I then reinstalled it.

Thank you for you suggestions in advance

Is there anyway of solving this ?

Ive never had this problem before as I had a Phillips sna6500 router and a phillips snu6500 adapter with a previous isp. Since switching over to the new one that told me I had to use their own router my internet connection is rather screwed up.

Any tips to over come this ? PS my isp isnt helping (sky broadband) much so I thought Id ask here for advise.

Every time I open IE, it opens, then sometimes I can open one or two links and then it crashes. This is not hardware related. I have tested the connection and NIC 6 ways from Sunday. All hardware is good. This happens whether hooked up to DSL, cable, or networked into a cable connection. It happens with ethernet and USB. I know it is not hardware. Am running Windows 2000 Pro, with all updates.

I ran the whole READ THIS FIRST in the beginning of this forum. I ran and installed and updated everything, some through another PC, with this hard drive hooked up as slave.

Never found any trojans, viruses, or worms. Some minor spyware. Some minor adware. All cleaned off fine. Ran Stinger and all the rest.

There are no strange programs listed in the add/remove programs list.

The really oddball thing is I can download (eg. live-updated Norton SW and NIS, Adaware, Spyware Blaster, Spybot, etc.) with no problem, but the second I open IE, the problems begin.

HELP! Has anyone out there heard of this problem before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Loss of internet connection

Running as a slave drive (while a good idea) is not the same as booting from the drive. Some things will only load up when you boot. They come out of the registry or load with applications that you run on the drive. As a slave, you did not load this registry or applications from the infected drive. As I said, its a good start, but will not allow you to see the real problems.

Please post a HijackThis log as an attachment.

I am having trouble keeping an internet connection on (1) computer on my home network (using a Microsoft Wireless Router). I run (3) other computers on the same network with no problems. The problem computer will only keep a connection for a few minutes normally, and the problem occurs whether using the wired or wireless network adaptor. I did pick up and connect to a unsecured wireless connection of a neighbors, and everything works flawlessly. Therefore I'm fairly certain the problem lies with either the router, my ISP, or both. The problem computer worked fine for the past 3 months, and stopped working out of the blue. Any ideas or suggestions?

Lenovo M 700 desktop computer; Windows 10 64 bit; NetGear N300 WiFi Router, Firefox 54.0.1

On my desktop computer, the network keeps disconnecting from the internet during periods when my browser is closed. Also, frequently when it comes out of sleep. I've had no troubles until a few weeks ago when the problem suddenly appeared. While connected to the internet, the network does not disconnect.
After a period when the browser is closed, the network icon in the System tray shows the network as secured, not connected. I have to click the connect button to connect. Interestingly my HP laptop (Windows 10 64 bit) also has the same problem which made me suspect the router.

I've run antivirus and adware software. I've worked with both the computer manufacturer and the router manufacturer but they could not solve the problem. In fact, they even replaced the mother board, wireless card and the router in an attempt to solve the problem!. I also set the router to a channel that my neighbors do not use to eliminate possible interference. All this did not solve the problem.

Since all the hardware is operating normally, I'm beginning to think it's a Windows 10 problem. Perhaps a hidden setting somewhere? Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot?

Hi Everyone,

New problem, I have six computers (desktops) in my home and I network all of them together. I also have a router for the cable internet, now there is a router for the computers downstairs and another router for the ones upstairs...everything works great. BUT my one daughter lost her internet connection. Now all other computers work and I did take the tower to another location where it works and it doesnt register an active connection so I took a tower that did work to the broken location and it works so I have determined that its her tower, so I deleted all her connection and re-did them, and still nothing...am I doing something wrong, or did I overlook something?

Thanks for taking the time to read...

do an ipconfig /all w/cut and paste in your reply.

That is the IP of the router being used?

can U ping IP inside router ok?

can U ping IP on the internet side of the router? Try DNS entry from the ipconfig/all

Can U ping a host name outside of your router? Like yahoo.com

I found this helpful information on possible solutions, very familiar with errors on previous Microsoft operating systems. http://www.vandersluijs.nl/content/view/973/96/lang,enI uninstalled one of the suggested updates and so far it is fine, the update was only optional so no security threats. I think it has helped, not certain if it will be like a fresh install because windows is slower than it was two weeks ago. If 3 weeks is best windows can handle for being ready for a new install I may have to go back to Linux. I hope this thread can stay on this forum somewhere to help others follow the link I posted above for possible solutions to this problem, it will save them time and effort trying numerous things.

First the annoyance:
Whenever I log in AIM 6 for the first time since my computer started or just randomly when after ive logged in i get an error message saying windows host service rundll32 crashed and its trying to fix the problem. It happens two times in a row sometimes. It's just really annoying, if anyone knows how to fix it I'd greatly appreciate it.

Loss of connection:
I'm not sure what causes it because it happens when my computer is idle, downloading, and just browsing. I stay connected to AIM and MSN as long as I dont disable or disconnect from the network but I cant access any webpages through domain names or ip addresses.

I get the page not displayed error and vista says I'm getting an connection; Access:Local and Internet. The only problem that it finds is when I diagnose and repair it can't connect to the microsoft website. I may be wrong but it seems like a DNS issue though I'm using a static ip and dns address (that my router tells me) from the properties>ipv4>properties menu.

It doesn't happen frequently but it's really annoying because the only thing that fixes it is restarting the computer. Would using bit torrent be the issue? I thought it might be vista going crazy from too many connections and I've patched the max connections limit to allow a ridiculous amount and that still did not fix this problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

First of all can I just say that I'm not an expert at networks, although I know some stuff.

I have setup a network at home with 7 users connected. This is connected to broadband internet via an external modem and a router. It was working fine until I added an 8th user; for some reason when i returned to my computer straight after (and 10 mins after my internet was working!) my computer started to ask me for a username and password like for a dial up. It has never asked me for one before as it is constantly connected. Every other user is still connected to the internet and is working fine. I have tested my wires, but they work fine, and i changed all the settings i could think of but nothing has worked! When I unplug my network cable and plug it in again it says "You are now connected to a network, speed blah dee blah", but internet is still down. I have even tried to add a new connection , but when the wizard finishes, nothing appears!

Can somebody please advise as i am getting suicidal over this problem!!!

Cheers, Owen

k i'm kinda new to this site and i'm not a big computer guy so bare with me.

lately i downloaded and installed some file i thought to be a codec for my realplayer however after installation my internet stopped working. i thought it might be my browser so i reinstalled the latest version of firefox that didn't work so i tried IE and that didn't work. i then noticed that my ftp program could not make a connection, same with an internet based game i used to play. anyways i tried some virus scans and malware scans and found nothing out of the ordinary. any ways to make a long story short i resorted to reformating my harddrive and reinstalling windows xp pro. however the problem is still there. this leads me to think that it is hiding in my registry somewhere since my hardware is working just fine. any ideas as to what this might be and or how to fix it would be extreemly helpful. if you need any more information just ask.

oh yea when i try to open a page it just gives me a page not found message. and the time after i installed the "codec" when i shut down my computer it did the "installing updates, don't turn off your computer" thing.

Answer:[SOLVED] loss of internet connection

if you reformatted your harddrive and reloaded windows xp it should be back to square one. first check in device manager under control panel then System to see if you have a network adapter listed if its listed does it have a yellow question mark by it...? if it does you are missing a device driver for the mother board what make and model is the PC? and did you load the device drivers off the CD that came with the PC?

good morning, mostly a newbie here! I noticed in the last week, I lose my internet connection temporarliy, like less than 2 mins, but no signal loss on my modem. I know my router and cables are good. I believe, I might have gotten something from spyware? reading blogs and web pages? I see you guys look at logs, how do I do that? What can I do to see what my problem is? Im not a beginner, not too savvy, but certainly a fast learner. Also, I run free avg , never says anything is wrong. And I have spybot, it does show some junk, says it removes it. I might add, x bf has a grudge, is a techy type. Can he be personally targetting my ip address despite my firewall and stuff I mentioned as protection? Please don't think Im a nut case. Forgive my lack of knowledge, but I do appreciate help, ideas, and am a fast study. ps, I read many of those other messages, but some were not fully understood ( where do I see those logs?) etc

Hi I have a Billion 7300n router accessed by 3 phones, 2 desktops, up to 4 laptops, a tablet and a desktop, and a Synology NAS

A few days ago one of the laptops just stopped accessing the internet.

On closer inspection it wasn't talking to the router. After several hours messing I got it talking to the router and other devices on the network. I did struggle to get wireless working and ended up hard coding the Default gateway to get it working while wired was fine.

However I cannot see the internet. This is the same whether I use a wireless or wired connection.

I have tried pinging URL's and IP addresses and neither work. The other laptops, Desktops and Tablet still work fine.

I've had some problems with spyquake ads in the past, now i have tons of outerinfo ads. on top of that, i can't get an internet connection. My computer says i have a connection, but i can't get any webpages, (i'm on my laptop right now, so i can use that to access the forums through my father's router from across the house). My cable modem says the following is on: "Power" "receive" and "pc/activity," but "send" is blinking and "online" is totally off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Outerinfo Ads + Loss Of Internet Connection

Hey el5amu3l,I think that you have a corrupted Winsock chain, caused by the malware. Before attempting to fix the other problems, let's fix the internet first.Go to start > run and type cmdA dos Window will appear.Type next in the dos window: netsh winsock resetHit enter and reboot.Let me know if the internet connection returns,David

On both my laptop and my desktop PC, I frequently lose my internet connection. It's shown as a yellow triangle with a "!"

I also experience a lack of internet connection when restarting my desktop. This also shows as a yellow triangle with a "!"

In almost all cases, when I run the network troubleshooter, I can resolve the issues and resume with an internet connection.

I am attaching two screenshots; one of ipconfig /all and the other is a shot of the results of the network troubleshooter.

My theory is that my N router is at fault. Not sure whether to buy a new one, or just tweak settings. I've tried calling LinkSys, but the router is out of warranty, and they won't give me free support.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Ken

Answer:Frequent Loss of Internet Connection

It could be that the router doesn't support ipv6.

I'm currently having an issue whereby my network occasionally stops allowing me to connect to the internet with the yellow triangle and "No Internet" message, only to have the connection pick back up a couple of minutes later. I've tried both Ethernet and Wi-Fi, 5G and 2G networks to no avail. My PC is the only device having this issue, with the network working perfectly fine on laptops, phones, etc.
I'm on Virgin in the UK, and my router is a Virgin Media Super Hub 2ac. My PC is running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

I have a wired LAN connection from my PC to my Orange Livebox which works fine except that, if it is left unused even for a short while, sometimes the connection to the internet is lost and I have to reset the computer and start again from scratch. These crashes have become annoyingly more frequent recently. Two other machines in the house(one laptop and one PC) are using the Livebox via Wireless connection and functioning without problem.Any suggestions?

Answer:Livebox, loss of internet connection

As your other two PC's are connecting fine it would identify a problem with the wired PC.1. try making a new connection2. try using another Ethernet card3. change the cable4. Reinstall Microsoft network from add remove windows components.Post Back

Hey guys, first time posting so let me know if i forget anything.

Hardware:
DIR-615 @ 3.11NA firmware

Wired:
PC windows 7
PS3

Wireless:
1 DELL windows 7
2 HP windows 7 (HPa and HPb)
3 smartphones

Description:
Everything wired always works, the dell wireless always works and HPa always works along with all of the cell phones. HPb will connect to the router always, as in it see's the router and connects using AES security. For between 15-30 minutes everything will work correctly, transfer speeds are fast and everything is working. For no reason the laptop will lose "Internet connection" only, NOT the connection to the router. But all of the over devices continue to work correctly, so i know the router has internet connected.

i would have to disconnect from the router and reconnect and that gives me another 15-30 minutes of connection. I have checked a load of stuff, but i cannot figure it out. Here is a netBIOS

About a week ago I noticed after my PC was idle for perhaps and hour I could no longer access the Internet or email. When this happens I have to reboot my PC to regain Internet access.

I have Windows XP MCE and I use a cable modem for the internet. It appears there's nothing wrong with the modem. When I lose access I tried rebooting the modem- that didn't do anything. Also, all the lights on the modem look normal even after I lose Internet access.

Could this be some kind of virus or spyware issue? My virus software PC-cillen has not detected anyting. I haven't installed anything new on the PC related to the internet. I did install a few screen video capture programs recently which I will be uninstalling now.

over the last few weeks, my laptop has slowly increased the frequency of this problem. it started out randomly, maybe a couple times a week. it has progressed now to the point that i am losing the connection a couple of times in an hour. none of the other computers are experiencing this problem (both laptops and desktops), and when this happens, the first thing i do is check to see if the modem or router have lost connection. is there a setting in windows 10 that may have gotten switched? is there a way to check the wi fi card in my machine (without replacing it)? my laptop is only about 12 feet from the router, and when it is working i get the highest possible connection signal, so i do not think that is an issue. this is really starting to be annoying.

Answer:intermittent loss of internet connection

Easiest thing to do would be to make sure wifi drivers are up to date from the wifi card manufacturer's website.

Basically, I think something has infected my NT services and is somehow stopping all my programs, if not most, from connecting. This includes updating and just basic login services (aim and steam, for example) I see a ton of svchosts (like 5) running in the background. I cannot connect to the internet on most programs, except firefox oddly enough. (I patched firefox and it stopped working, so I had to do a system restore to fix it and it now works fine as long as I don't update it. Same with Internet Explorer). I *have* internet, but something stopped it from working, or is at least stopping almost all my programs from connecting to the internet. I think something might have infected my computer and is blocking my internet. Virus and malware scans have turned up nothing. When I try to end svchost, my computer gives me a NT services error and forces a shutdown (1 min countdown)

Any help? I really need my internet back for my school work.

For the past 3 months or so I've been having this really weird issue (or maybe 2 separate issues, not sure) involving my computer disconnecting from the internet.
I've already determined it's my computer and not a problem with the router/modem because it happens with any network connection and every time another computer is connected to the same connection as mine, that computer has no problems.
So the actual symptoms of this issue are 2 main things:
The first is whenever I open my laptop, 9/10 times it's disconnected from the internet and I have to run troubleshooting 1 or 2 times for it to work again, but this only happens when I first open my laptop, not while using it.
The second is whenever I'm using the internet, I'll randomly lose internet connection (but still be connected to the wireless), and I have to disconnect from the wireless and then reconnect for it to work. This happens most frequently when I'm watching videos on youtube or running separate programs that involve the internet, but it has also happened less frequently when browsing websites. This issue occurs, if I'm actively using the internet, once every 5~10 minutes.
For the most part I've been living with it, but it's really annoying and if I can find a way to fix it that would be great.

Also I followed the instructions for the TSG SysInfo and here's the result:

Hi,

I am being disconnected from the Internet on a regular basis, I re-connect the modem and I can get back on-line but it happens again. The amount of time before it disconnects again varies but it doesn't take long. I have ran Spybot, Adaware, TrendMicro PC Scan, ran a Windows XP Update, ran Stinger and CW Shredder. I have removed Malware, Grayware, spyware, trojans, worms you name it I've done it!!!
I have checked my Firewall and everything seems to be in order. I'm pulling my hair out trying to sort this. Im all out of ideas, Im not vastly knowledgable in IT and really could be using the help of an expert?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

hello!
I have a laptop that I mostly use at work, but bring home on the weekends and use the internet connection.
Well I was on the internet just fine last night at my home, but I came to work this morning and it says that it can not find the internet connection. At first when I checked the connection through "net work connections" it said "No Local Area Caonnection".
So, I restarted the computer and then it says that it can't find any wireless connections. When I tryed to find the wireless connection it said "Windows Can't configure Wireless Connection". So I don't really know where to go from here. Can anyone please tell me what to do?
Thanks!
