I can no longer hear voices, only background sounds

Question: I can no longer hear voices, only background sounds

So here's what happened. The mic on my headset stopped working so I jerked around with the computer- and Realtek HD Audio Manager settings. No luck, after this I have experienced some problems with my audio. Voices are super quiet but everything else sounds normal. I currently use the backside of my computer for my headset but I need to fix this.

Thank you!

Preferred Solution: I can no longer hear voices, only background sounds

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: I can no longer hear voices, only background sounds

What is your make/model of motherboard?
Have you tried another headset (or speakers) to determine if its the computer and not the headset? Try hooking up the headset to another computer and see if it works the correct way.

I have the same problem. 7.1 onboard audio port (6 Jacks with mic and digital audio).
*I Uninstalled Realtek audio.
*Tried another headset - no change.
*Win7 recognized hardware and auto installed audio software.
STILL NOT SOLVED.

I was watching youtube videos when i unpluged my earbuds by accident. I pluged them back in but now i can only hear the background music or sounds but no voices.I tried unplugging and plugging back in but no dice. Sound is very choppy and sometimes i can hear the voices but are really quiet.

Answer:Cant hear voices Only sounds

Are you sure that the clips are in ordinary 2ch stereo and not something like 5.1 Audio?

If I watch videos with 5.1 Audio on my PC, then part of the soundtrack is "missing" (e.g. voices, background sounds or music).

What operating system are you running?

Have you recently downloaded/installed any new software?

Have you checked Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>Device Manager tab, and checked the properties on your sound devices to see if the drivers are still installed?

Give us the full error message and let us know what system changes if any you have made.

anyone?!!!! please!!!==========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Hello.

I recently moved, and have set up my computer in the new apartment.
I hear voices.
Okay, music.
It's coming from the speakers -- and it sounds like it could be a radio station or some such (I haven't heard any ads yet). It is very faint, not really understandable. It is -extremely- annoying. As a result of the interference, the speakers are humming, and it is there when I play any audio. I play DVDs, Music, etc. on my computer, and have lost the quality I enjoy!

Any help on stopping this? Or any ideas as to what is cuasing it?

Joshua

I have audio on everything BUT dvd's, and it's just on "real" movies. I can turn my sound all the way up, to the point where the music and background noises literally hurt my ears, but the voices are still too quiet to make out. My sound works without a problem on cd's and burned dvd's.

I've checked all my sound drivers and the sound card, and they work just fine. I've screwed around with just about every setting that could possibly be the issue, and nothing has worked. I have heard that windows media player could have been the issue, so I've tried reinstalling it and using other players, but no luck. I used to be able to play dvd's on my laptop just fine, the audio problem started a couple months ago.

Also, on actual dvd's, the voices can be heard perfectly on previews. If anyone has any suggestions at all, please, let me know. Not being able to watch dvd's on my laptop is driving me insane.

Just installed a new motherboard and with that it reset all my sound options and a few others and before the new motherboard I was able to go onto TeamSpeak 3 and get peoples voices through my headphones and all other sounds through my speakers so I was able to hear voices and music clearer, one problem is that I can't scheme to remember how to do this and if I try to make the headphones the default communications device, the option doesn't show up for it. Looked around but there isn't anything about how to do this.

If anyone has any ideas on how to change this I'd be appreciative.

Thanks

Answer:How to get desktop sounds through speakers & voices through headphones

I am a bit confused with what you are trying to do as usually plugging in phones automatically disconnects the speakers by way of a switch that is struck by the incoming jack plug. Unless you can disable that switch I don't know how you are going to do this.

I have seen this problem on past post (now closed) but there never seem to be a real answer to the issue (many solutions offered).
I do seem to have a trojan or warm that is causing this security issue. I have used all the top popular removal and scan tools but nothing finds this security threat. Most deep (full) scans take about 4-6 hours on my system. The problem is using large sections of memory and I believe the security threat may have limited access to my system (unconfirmed)

Please if someone has direct and specific information on this I would greatly appreciate it.

I recently installed zoom player along with the combined community codec pack and in some videos that I play, mostly dvd's, when people talk their voices are so low and quite but then the ambient noise is really loud. I tried these videos with nero showtime and vlc but both of them seem to play it with a fine sound. Zoom player is using ffdshow audio settings, i think. I played around with some settings, it can lower/increase the volume, it can mix it to stereo 2.0 and some other settings i have touched, but i see no difference besides the increase/decrease of volume. Anybody knows how to fix this?

When I'm playing any audio on my laptop, the background sounds are always louder than the vocals. Troubleshooting says that nothing is wrong, and I know it's not my earphones because they work fine on my phone. I'm on Windows 10. I've tried turning off and on enhancements, but that didn't work either. What can I do to fix this?

Visiting at someone else's home that has F.I.O.S. wifi. Have used this connection several times in past year using same laptops with no problems. Both laptops have about the same configuration and are just a little over a year old. Running both laptops here next to each other same as we always have in the past, but just one is having the problem mentioned below (other one works fine).

When Sony Vaio laptop (Win7 Ultimate 64-bit) boots up, within a minute or two, voices like from a radio or TV ads start up, sometimes you hear multiple stations at same time. Even when I play a movie, I will hear the voices right along with the movie voice.

Anyone ever experienced this? I have been searching my system for hours but found nothing. I downloaded hijackthis and ran it to remove some browser helpers like SweetIm and sweetpacks. It's as if internet radio or tv is playing on the laptop but I find that no place on my system. I have just been muting my sound as this is very annoying.

Answer:on wifi connection, hearing AD voices in background

Disconnect the Sony laptop from the network* (but leave it in the same physical location) and see if you still hear stuff.

*you can turn off the Wi-Fi switch (if the laptop has one)
...or disable the network adapter
...or have it forget the connection
...or some other way

When I play the DVD on Windows Media Player, the sound off

The voices volume is almost too low to hear even when all volume turned up, but the background noise of the movie is really high (the music etc.)

I checked and I believe everything is plugged in same as before, when it was fine
Speakers turned on and everything

Your insights are appreciated, thank you!

Answer:DVD sound off -voices low, background noise high

Not sure if you've worked this one out or not but I just found a solution to the exact same problem.

I started the DVD playing in Windows Media Player and went to Tools, Options and then selected the DVD tab.

From here I was able to select my speaker configuration (top left hand corner) to 2.1 surround. Then I raised the volume on the Master controls (just to the right of the speaker config). I also went into the next tab along and could see the voices like in a equalizer and I was able to increase the volume there aswell.

Note: each time you make a change you need to Apply it as it does not make the changes on the fly. Also, I'm doing this from memory so some things may be slightly different...

For a few days now, every time I turn on my computer, with the volume on, advertisements and other sounds almost constantly play in the background of my computer, with no programs at all running. So far, the antivirus/antimalware programs haven't picked up anything. I've run TDSSKiller and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and still nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use the sound a lot except to play You Tube videos for the kids. On one computer, some of their videos we can hear the backup audio but not the lyrics. I tried searching You Tube help and all over the Internet. Some sites say to check the audio settings. I went to control panel and sounds and looked at every option. I also clicked the sound control in the tray and went to advanced. All of the volume types are turned up. I don't know if it is related but it also sounds like the Bass is turned way up. I have an E-Machines boxed computer from the store. I don't have any special sound card or audio software. There is only a volume knob and balance on the speakers - nothing else. I'm assuming the kids managed to change a setting somewhere but I've looked everywhere and can't find anything. Please help!

Can I delete the post? I found the problem. Turns out that on volume control you can go into properties and check which volume controls you want to see. When I checked them all I found that the 3d sound was turned on. Finally have a very happy baby!

trying to watch a movie in windows media player the sound on media player is maxed as well as computer sound and i cant hear the movie very well at all what can i do to enhance the sounds of the movie

Answer:i cant hear movie sounds very well how to fix

3 spots. Media Player volume, Speaker icon on tray for system volume, and mechanical speaker's volume control. if all three of these are on high and you are not getting a proper volume, then it is one of two things. To eliminate one, use any other stored sound like music file or CD to see if the volume is good there. If anything else is good, then your system's sound if fine and you are probably using a bootleg movie and it is a poor copy. If nothing has good sound, then try updating your sound driver. If that does not work, purchase a sound card (not too expensive these days) and you are back in business. Post back results for more advice. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

IWantToCryevery time I plug in any audio device
Hello. What kind of audio devices. Like analog headphones plugged into the headphone port, or like a usb sound card plugged into a usb port, or something else?
IWantToCryIve updated all drivers
Have you reinstalled the audio driver?
1. Open the Device Manager2. Expand the Sound, Video & Game Controllers section.3. Right click on the Realtek and select to uninstall.4. Put a check mark in the option to delete the driver software, and then ok.5. Restart the laptop and go back to the Device Manager and check again for a Realtek driver. Keep uninstalling & restarting until Realtek no longer appears under Sound...Controllers and "High Definition Audio Device" appears in its place. "High Definition Audio Device" is the name of the native driver.
[The reason you might have to go through the process more than once is because the driver files for more than one Realtek driver could be on the hard drive. When a Realtek driver is removed, the next one gets installed if Windows can locate the files. Windows installs its generic driver only after all Realtek files have been removed.]
6. At this point, test the audio while the native driver is installed and see if the same problem occurs.
7. When finished testing, download and install a fresh copy of the Realtek driver for your operating system. Get it from your Dell support page. Test the audio again
If the same problem occurs with both the Realtek and the native d... Read more

I have just installed a sy-p4vda motherboard and pentium 4 2.4 ghz processor into a recently purchased case with a 300 watt 12volt power supply. After reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling windows (ME) and installing my geforce 4 mx 420 drivers for my video card i still cannot play games. I do have direct X 8.1. I have updated all the drivers for the motherboard, bios, video card, and sound. The games (any game) will load and then just freeze when they are attempted to be played. I have hooked up the polk audio speakers (2 channel) from my old HP Pavilion computer. My computer is using the onboard audio feature with the motherboard called Realtek (previous called Avance '97). I can barely hear the sounds for windows. I have turned all the settings in sounds and multimedia up, still the sounds are not very load. The speakers do not have there own power supply and run off the computers motherboard, hooking directly in to the motherboard's jack. I recently purchased 256mb ram PC2100 with my case. Windows runs smooth and fine. It's just that i can barely hear any sounds and every game i have tried to play has locked up completely. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly apprcieted. Thank you and have a nice day.

Answer:cant hear sounds from my windowes 2000 professional

You may have tried these things already but I will try and throw out a few Ideas at you.

First: ensure known working speakers are being used, maybe try a set of head phones as well to ensure redundancy.

Second: I would have to say check your device manager to see if it is even showing an audio device.
Start->right click "my computer" ->Manage ( or go via Control panel.) Select device manager.

third: Either way whether good or bad in step two, check the manufacturer of the hardware and see if they have Driver support. Most do, so download the most recent drivers, and try to install them.

fourth: If this is not fruitful try opening the case and see if your Audio device is connected properly, if it is onboard audio or a sound card there is a good chance a Wire should be connecting it. Ensure all your connections are proper hardware wise.

fifth: If you can maybe try a different known working sound card. Also depending on the architecture some hardware devices if too old or with poor legacy support also may not be supported with windows 2000.

Let us know how it goes from there and Good luck!

Hi, I have encountered this issue recently.

1. My system was working fine.
2. I installed an ASUS EAH4770 video card which has HDMI port built in.
3. Installed an old game Call of Duty 2 and played.
4. Then PC started to go to Hardware Wizard after booting up and trying to find and install Hdaudbus.sys (UAA HD audio class driver). Of course, fail to install. However, the audio was still fine.
5. Finally, decided to resolve this. Found the MS kb888111 fix. Use a trick to install it on SP3 and the version is 5.10.1.5013.
6. Boot up. UAA is found and installed. No more nagging wizard.
7. Then sounds begin to have problems:
a. If I set <None> in the Environment field of Realtek Sound Manager, some sounds would not be heard while some sounds were still fine. For example, the main vocal in a song may be very hard to hear while the accompanying instruments are clear and loud.
b. If I set Generic in the Environment field, the above main vocal can be heard but every sound trails with this electronic guitar effect.
c. If I play the 3D audio demo of the Realtek Sound Manger, it sounds OK.

Yes, I have re-installed all the latest drivers from the manufacture of the MB. Install kb888111 a couple of times. But there is no avail. It looks like the mixer is messed up.

Has anyone encountered such a problem?

Hello!
Windows do not play any media files and more but I can hear the sound effects windows play (Critical Alarm, Windows Start-up, Windows Shut-down, ding, beep etc..) and also I can hear any sound/music, etc from Firefox browser.
I can also hear any music/sounds etc from games
the only problem I have is the media files.

Windows Media Player won't play any media file I throw at it the same problem happens with Media Player Classic Home Cinema (codecs are optional)
this has happened after I followed these guides:
Remove Favorites, Libraries, and Homegroup from Navigation Pane
Computer - Add or Remove from Navigation Pane

I clearly wanted and I still want to hide some items from navigation pane.
If you use it much some items are not needed and are bothersome if you have them.

So I hid Libraries and done everything as it says to remove Homegroup.

So what I have to in order for Media Players play media properly once again?

Except of Restoring everything as it was.

Answer:Windows do not play any Media Files (you can hear sounds though..)

1. Go to device manager, find the audio device, and make sure it's enabled.

2. Update your on-board audio device.

3. Click on Start and type SOUND. Click the tab PLAYBACK. Right click to show Disabled and Disconnected devices. Make sure your speaker is Enabled. Right click on speaker and run Test. Should hear up and down notes. Double click on your speaker to bring up Speaker Properties. Go to tab Levels and make sure nothing is muted.

Well my computer had a virus, and thanks to the awesome people on this site I was able to fix it. Prior to that I tried to fix it myself using Malwarebytes. Anyway my computer was clean and everything was running normal. However, after I uninstalled Malwarebytes I tried to play music on Musicmatch Jukebox, and I got the error: Waveout not supported. This was odd because I was able to play music on itunes and Windows Media Player. Then I realized that I also could no longer hear system sounds and that I couldn't hear sound on youtube. I checked my soundcard: Creative Sound Blaster Live, which was working fine. I tried to reinstall Windows Media Player, which didn't help. I installed K-Lite Codec pack, which also didn't help. After I uninstalled K-Lite and went back to my original codec pack, CCCP, it was then that I got a prompt telling me that I was missing some Registry Keys which would affect my computer's sound. I'm wondering if I accidentally deleted something when I uninstalled Malwarebytes. You can view my original topic here, the sound issue is on the second page.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/276614/my-desktop-has-a-green-screen-telling-me-my-system-is-infected/Help to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated ^_^Thanks so much!

Answer:Cannot play system sounds or hear sound on youtube

have you tried removing your sound card from device manager, reboot, when computer restarts it will find the sound card and you can then re-install the drivers.

When I updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, I had no sound. But I fixed this problem by uninstalling and re-installing my Realtek High Definition Audio driver. Now my sound works but I have poor audio quality. For example, whenever I use YouTube or Vimeo and stuff like that, I hear buzzing/static noises coming from the sound whenever I play the audio. I tried everything I can think of: restarting my PC, re-install the audio driver again, finding a driver update, etc. I had no problems with my audio when I had Windows 8/8.1. I have a Toshiba Satellite C855 and my Realtek HD Audio driver is ver 6.0.1.7541.

Hello all,

I have a Toshiba laptop, for about 2 years now. I would like by describing the pc specs, but i'm having a hard time since i can't open My Computer to see the details, but it goes more or less as follows:

Windows 7 Home Edition, i7, decent graphics card, 4gb ram.

My pc never broke down on me or anything, but now, i think it was after i installed a driver for the touchpad, everything stopped working.. I can't reproduce any type of sound (browser, mp3 files, videos, etc) I can only hear the starting windows sound. Can't open My Computer as stated before, can't open my screen resolution screen as well.. I've tried repairing the disk, scanning for viruses, editing some things on regedit, but nothing has worked so far..

If someone could be so kind to point me in the right direction i'd greatly appreciate. My native language is not english so sorry for any mistake.

Answer:Toshiba Laptop - Can only hear system sounds, can't open MyComputer etc

Where did you download the touchpad driver from? Have you tried System Restore to the restore point prior to installing the touchpad drivers? What have you edited in the registry? Have you ever used any registry cleaners in the past?

Also download Speccy install it this will tell you all the specs about your computer hardware which we will need. When Speccy is open go to file then click on Publish snap shot or screen shot then post the link here.

What I'm trying to do:
Fix my headphone sound/set-up on Windows 7. Can only hear background music on them on this specific PC.
No voices on music videos.
Headphones work great on other devices such as my laptop, my phone, and other phones.

I thought "maybe Sony headphones aren't compatible with windows 7".
But when I tried other headphones on this PC, I had the same issue.

I already uninstalled and re-installed updated sound drivers (AMD High Def audio, and Realtek).
And this issue has continued.

I'm not even sure this is a defect, because when I plug in my *speakers* on my PC,
they work perfectly.

When I plug in my headphones or speakers, they both show up as "speakers" in Playback Devices.
I even tried messing with the "Speakers Properties" levels' balance (with the headphones), and it made no difference.
Thank you so so much for reading this. And if you guys need me to printscreen anything, I will comply.

Answer:Headphones: Can only hear background music

UPDATE: I just found the weirdest solution. (Or at least one I could definitely work with meanwhile I figure this out)

There's a headphone jack on the *front* of my PC. And....when I plug in my speakers on there, the speakers work perfectly. B u t m y h e a d p h o n e s d o n ' t.

SO

I just tried connecting the headphones onto the green jack meant for the speakers that's in the *BACK* of my PC. ..............AND IT WORKED.
what?

Guess I'll just have to turn my pc around backwards Wish I tried it sooner
I uploaded a file!: This is what my PC says about the headphones.

Oh well, at least the headphones are working perfectly in the speaker plug! And the speakers are working perfectly in the headphone plug~

Hello,

I have a dell Latitude D600 running windows XP service pack 3. My computer has developed a strange sound problem. For some reason, it will only play the background sounds on videos, such as background music, special effect sounds, etc. while the voices are extremely low. It does this randomly, once in the middle of playing a video. The problem persists even when I use my headphones. I've noticed that this isn't a problem when listening to music or videos over the internet.

I have tried going into control panel-sounds and audio devices-volume control, but everything is turned all the way up. when I go into advanced the bass and treble settings on the tone control are greyed out and enable SPDIF is checked. I've tried restoring my computer, but that does nothing for the problem. It has done this before, and the only way to solve it was to reset the laptop to factory conditions, which I don't want to do again.

Thank you in advance for any help,
dragonfall

I hear noises like TV commercials in the background of windows.

There seems to be no way to turn them off and they occur at all times regardless of whether I am running a program.

I went through the instructions specific to windows on this site and the problem persists.

A note: I did not run RogueKiller first because Norton antivirus was deleting RogueKiller. I ran it last when I figured this out and disactivated Norton while running it.

I am including my logs as attachments.

Thank you so much for the help.

When I open internet explorer ads will start to play in the background. I don`t
get redirected or anything, I just hear the ads. I`ve tried many diffrent tools to get rid
of it like TDSS killer and malwarebytes but they don`t find anything. My brother told me he was on
Nexus, which is a website where you can get mods for games(it is not a place to pirate games)and
he clicked on an ad that was a mini hocky game to shoot a puck. Then the computer restarted and
once he went online the ads started.

After recent Windows 10 upgrade. I am no longer able to make VoIP calls thru gmail.  My HP drivers are up-to-date.  I've gone thru all the obvious, suggested checks and balances, tried another headset, but still cannot make a call and even hear the call going thru.  The audio is seriously messed up, making a huge screeching sound.  I'm supposed to have Beats as audio, but the only way I can hear it al all is through studio headphones.  So the problem is getting the audio and mic jacks to recognize a working headset.

Hello, I have been working on this Lenovo G550 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium for about 4 days now. I have run many different types of Anti Virus and Spyware detection software and still no good. What is happening is when the computer starts I open Task Manager to the Processes tab and there are 2 iexplore.exe processes running and every now and then streaming audio starts playing but no windows are open. If the audio is playing and I End Process on the iexplore.exe, when iexplore.exe precesses close and the audio stops. After a few minutes the iexplore.exe processes start back and sometimes the audio will start again but not every time. I am including the Hijackthis log file.

Question: background sounds

I run Win XP and I have a bird that chirps every few minutes in the background. It's driving me wild! Can anyone please tell me how to turn it off?"

Answer:background sounds

Check you sound scheme. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and click on 'Sounds and Audio Devices' then the sound tab....go through the list and you should be able to easily determine what the sound is indicating and change or disable it for that particular item if you so choose.

Hello,

I'm new here and need some help! I don't know much about computers except the basic stuff most users know. I have a virus (or maybe multiple viruses?).

Sometimes background noise such as a gaming noise (like guns shooting and people shouting), or the phrase "Congratulations, you won!" noise will come up in the background. Sometimes this happens even when I don't have an internet browser open.

Also on top of that random pop ups will come up. One is "Secret Crush Alert!" I've also had pop ups for random businesses including Progressive Auto Insurance, and other Auto-related advertisements. These also happen even if I don't have a browser open.

I've tried everything I know how to do. I've run Avast, ThreatFire, and PandaCloud. They all say the full system scan is complete, but the problem still happens! This has been going on for a couple of months.
Please help me.. am not sure what to do. My computer is a Windows XP 2002 Media Center Edition. It is an Intel Core™ 2 CPU. 6400 @ 2.13GHz.

Let me know if there's more info you need. Thank you!

Hello!
Last night, I started hearing ad video's in the background. I usually open multiple tabs and, some sites I go to, have video advertisements, so of course I just ignored it. Well, after closing IE, I realized the sounds were still coming from my PC. I ran AVG, which found no viruses. I also ran MalwareBytes, and it found about 8 infections, but the sounds are still coming (although, it DID fix this problem I was having with auto-arranging my desktop icons, ha!) Here's my log: Thank's in advance!

I have a brand new DELL Dimension E510 and for some reason when I play a dvd(on ANY player) the background noises (as in the extras or ESPECIALLY the music) drown out the primary sounds like the characters talking. I've gone through all the audio options on the DVD software but to no avail. I have 4 speakers and 1 subwoofer connected and I've even tried setting the audio to 2 speakers but the backround sound is always far louder than the prime sound. I am at a complete loss as to what to do. I bought two of these E510's and I experience the same problem on the other one in the other room! I beleive I still have the problem when it runs through headphones though I might have not tried that! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and other videos such as ones I watch online or download all play normal. It is just DVDs. The computer is DVDRW-CDRW!

Answer:Background Sounds on DVD

Not come across this before, but, as this is new, I would get in touch with Dell and see what they have to say. Certainly, as its still under warrenty, don't touch anything without their permission.

My Gateway has worked well with XP but a problem popped up I can't figure a way around. The sound system works and things like the XP logon or "Your Antivirus program has been updated" are fine. I have replaced the sound card and that still is not it. The sound cards are PCI and seem to work other than the following.

When I try to listen to music or downloaded videos the Media Player starts and I get great visualizations. But there is no sound. Device Manager shows no problems and everything seems good there. When I look at the Audio properties there is no evidence of anything wrong and nothing is set to mute. I do not recall making any alterations in settings and the only thing different was the new USB2 PCI adapter. I thought that might be a problem and removed it and there was no change. I have run a complete AV scan and that was negative. This one has me beat. Any ideas?

But it's not worth the effort since so many people are security-minded or use some kind of email that doesn't play it back upon opening.

Starting today, my computer has randomly started playing music and advertisements on my computer, even when I have nothing opened up. Also, when I go to use my web browsers, the results of the search keep getting redirected. I have tried doing scans from many different anti-virus softwares, but none of the scans eliminates the problems. I have done scans on the following: AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials, Malware Bytes Anti-Malware, and Super Anti-Spyware. If you could help me with this problem, it would be very much appreciated because these problems are very annoying.

I'm using a pretty new HP Notebook with Window 7.

For the past week, I've been getting random ads, occasionally what sounds like porn clips, voices having a one sided conversation, music. etc All of which occur regardless if I'm browsing the internet or it's sitting without any programs open. I will get a high CPU usage alert when these sounds start.

I'm using Nortons which did not find anything. I've ran CCleaner, MalwareBytes, and I just finished running the Sophos rootkit remover which showed nothing.

Everything else on the laptop runs fine and I haven't noticed any interference when using Opera.

Any help with this matter would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time.
Payton

Answer:Have random sounds, ads in background.

Hy
my name is Daniel and I will be assisting you with your Malware related problems.

Before we move on, please read the following points carefully. First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.
Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.
If you have any problems while you are follow my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem.
Do not run any other scans without instruction or Add/ Remove Software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.
Post all Logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts.
If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.
Stay with me. I will give you some advice about prevention after the cleanup process. Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean.
My first language is not english. So please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to read. Thanks for your understanding.

Please download Gmer from here and save it to your Desktop. Double click on the randomly named GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO.

I went to a site today and immediately realized it was a "bad" site, but was on a browser without WoT. (I was searching for the difference between a wet and a dry cappuccinno and ended up at some file server.) Anyway, shortly after, I could hear background sounds that sounded like a virus was found, but nothing popped up. I cleared my cache and went to eventvwr, and it showed Avira found an infection in the C:\Recycler folder. I mistakenly shut my computer off (pulled the cord out without realizing my battery was not in). Anyway, when it started back up, there were all sorts of sounds, so I held down SHIFT and turned off my network card. I ran Avira, but it was not getting it, so I went into Safe Mode and Malwarebytes found 5 infections. Deleted them. Rebooted, but still heard background "beeps", even with nothing open. Ran Malwarebytes again, and it found two more files-did away with them. How can I be sure this is clear? (And if it is, what is beeping in the background?)

I could probably get the exact url from my history of the site that seemingly started it, if it would help. I do not have a Boot CD (or a CD Drive). I did not run the 32-bit file, as I am not sure if my system is 32-bit or not. Thank you for any help.

Also, I have both Avira and Malwarebytes on my system, because as I understood it, one finds certain things the other does not look for and vice versa, but have also been told they should not both be there. Can someone clarify... Read more

So my computer all of the sudden will play the audio from various advertisements out of the blue. No window is open, there are no videos, just sound. It isn't anything profane, they are like Toyota and movie trailers. It's weird, I can't figure out what process is running to make that happen. Anyone seen anything like this or have an idea on how to fix it? Thanks

Answer:Advertising Sounds in Background

Hello and welcome, sounds like we need to get a couple scans to remove this infection.I have moved this from Vista to the Am I Infected forum. Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.4.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.Click the Start Scan button.Do not use the computer during the scanIf the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and sav... Please help:

About two weeks ago I started hearing strange noise coming from my computer - thinking I may have left a window open I paid it no mind - however it seems to be a continuing problem. All windows are closed and there are commercials playing in the background and sometimes multiple commercial noise playing over one another? I have tried to research the topic with little assistance - and my anti-virus doesn't detect anything wrong!? Sometimes I can have my computer on all day and there are no commercials - and some days I they won't stop playing...what is going on and how do I stop these commercials from playing for good!

Thanks!

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At... Hello.. Seems there are quite a bit of similar posts about this. Well, here are the files that I've already scanned for. I know I said that I've followed that set of instructions, but I did that far before this, so I no longer have the original log for Adware Cleaner. I scanned again to use it, but it didn't have what was there before, so I found it pointless to even create the report for picking up nothing. Let me know what you have to say, i'll be checking on this for some time tonight.. If I don't get a response, I'll be here around 4:45 Tomorrow, eastern time.

Answer:Background Advertisement Sounds

Hi,
Once again we shall use FRST for additional checks. Re-run FRST/FRST64 by double-clicking:

Type rpcss.dll into the Search: field in FRST then click the Search File(s) button.
FRST will search your computer for files and when finished it will produce a log Search.txt in the same directory the tool is run.
Please attach it to your reply.

I downloaded vlc-0.8.4a-win32 video player and must've hit the wrong button when setting it up because all the sounds on my computer were set to play through that- so none of the windows sounds are working (the click when right clicking on a file for example). I removed that and figured it would reset it back to normal but it didn't.

How can I reset them to play correctly? I tried doing a system restore and it says it couldn't restore to the selected point.

THanks
