Question: Outlook 2007 replaces natural name entered in "To," with just email address

After sending an email and checking the “Sent Items” folder, the To line of the email, I see Outlook just shows the addressee’s email address but not the natural name, as I input it.
 
Example:  I enter the natural name in the To line as “Joe,” at that point, a pop-up menu opens up with all the “Joes” I’ve previously sent emails to.  I select the correct one – Joe Smith <[email protected]> – and Outlook enters the name as “Joe Smith,” without the email address behind the name.
 
Later, after sending, a check of the “Sent Items” shows the natural name, “Joe Smith,” was dropped and replaced by [email protected]
 
Outlook was originally set up to retain the natural name in the To line and recently the program just arbitrarily changed itself.  I’ve checked everywhere in the program in an attempt to correct it, to no avail.
 
We send hundreds of client emails a month and need to sort by name, not email address.

I'll bet you have not heard this one before. I was attempting to send an email to a potential client. Everything seemed to work well except that it was returned. The problem was that the address was changed somewhere. His name is spelled with a j but somewhere along the line, it was changed to a k and so there was no such person and therefore was returned to me.

I have Outlook 2007 and two email addresses: my primary pop3 account and a second, forwarding, address which I ask most of my correspondents to use.

I would like to be able to use Outlook to "send from" the second address, and to have that address appear as the "sent from" address when anyone receives a mail from me.

At present anyone can use the second address and it will arrive in my inbox.

It's just the "sent from" value which is proving difficult to achieve.

I have tried setting up a new account in account settings but I can't do so with the second address, no matter which password I use.

Can anyone help?

Hi - I found a thread here from back in 2008 (Solved: Outlook Express 6 help: reply from same address the message was sen) that said the issue was solved, but I saw nothing to help me.

The issue is, I have 4 email accounts, and I want Outlook to automatically reply using the account to which an email was sent. This always worked just fine in the past; then my computer died last weekend and I got a new one. I set up everything in Outlook again, and all was working fine - sending, receiving, etc. But suddenly I noticed that ALL my replies were going out from my default (home) email address, and not other addresses to which the email messages may have been sent (like my work email address). This is not good. I can change the "from" address in a reply manually in the dropdown menu, but I never used to have to do that.

Can anyone help? Thanks!

Thanks, but I'm afraid my question was misunderstood. MY REPLIES are not going out from the correct account. Here's the deal: I have a home email address that is the default. Say I get an email to my work address, and then I click reply, it suddenly changed to going back out to the message sender from my HOME address. It never used to do this; replies would go out from the address at which they were received. Where can I make it do that once again - anyone know? Thanks.

When trying to enter a new contact in Outlook 2007, I try to enter the email address. If I type part of it, a list will come up and show me other contacts. If I accept one of them, it will put the name and email address in the field. When I hit tab, it disappears. In some cases, if I choose one, it will save the email address part, and fill in the Display name field, which I can then edit. If I edit the contact in the address book that I think it is coming from, then it will not even show up on the list to choose from. I guess my question is, where are these addresses coming from, and why won't they save in the field if they are already editted contacts in the address book?

When I go to New message, and begin to type an email address, when I type the first letter, all email addresses I have sent to in the past with that same beginning letter come up in a drop down list for me to choose one if I like. I am trying to capture all these email addresses from the past so I can do a bulk email, after editing out them ones I don't want to send in the bulk email. Is there some way to get all these into an excel file or something, other than cut and pasteing each one, a very slow process. If you can help, I will appreciate it.

I am using 2010 so I can't be specific.

You should have an export feature to export to different file formats. Office 2010 will do it in an excel format.

You also should be able to import the list you have created and make a distribution list of it. They are now called "Contact Groups" in 2010.

Hi there,I provide IT Support in Australia and have an unusual problem that someone may be able to help me with. A client is unable to send an E-Mail to another user in the Office on the same domain. They are both able to send and recieve E-Mail from anyone else, and have no problem with others on the same domain. When E-Mail is sent it is in the Sent items in Outlook, but does not arrive at the receiver. When checking Webmail the sent E-Mail is not on the Server either. It is POP E-Mail, receiver settings have been deleted and reconfigured. Have turned off Junk Mail. Have configured the Sender on my own PC using a different ISP and still the E-Mail appears to send and goes to sent items, but never arrives at the Receiver. I can send from my PC to this user no problem using my own E-Mail address. Weird...Thanks for any hints you may have as Hosting company says they can't help. It is not the ISP as I have configured it on my office PC using a different ISP. Could it have something to do with a SPAM listing? If so how would it affect only one E-Mail Address?Can send from the Sender to Receiver ok when using Webmail however. Everyone is on Windows 7 ProfessionalTerry

Hi'I have always been able to click on an email address in an email header and either the contact opens, or it asks if I want to add to contacts.
All of the sudden, if I am in Sent Items, it only gives me E-mail Properties showing the address, e-mail type and Internet Format. No other options.

I am running Vista Ultimate SP1, Outlook 2007 (12.06423.1000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6425.1000) with an http Exchange mail account as well as an Outlook Connector for Hotmail plus POP mailboxes.

Recently (since installation of Office SP2) adding a new contact or sending an message with a new email address the email address is not underlined and when attempting to save the contact or send message the following error is displayed:

"The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."

This message also appears even if I try and send meesage by one of the POP accounts.

This is very frustrating as I cannot create new contacts or send new messages. I'd pull my hair out... but I've got none left!

I would appreciate if anyone knows how to fix this issue.

Appreciate that you have correlated the problem to Office 2007 SP2. I am having the same problem with an XP Pro PC using Outlook 2007 connected to Exchange 2003 over Http/RPC. There are two accounts: Exchange and one POP. If I take the Exchange connection "off line" it is possible to add the new email address to the contact. THEN, I can send the email via either Exchange or POP. Also, I cannot send an email to an address that is not already in "contacts", or apparently never sent an email to a particular address. So, same work around. Take Exchange offline and then send email via POP account. With Exchange back online, it is now possible to send to the new email address.

Hello,

I am in a bit of a pickle. I'm trying to figure out how to block a certain email address from recieving emails from me, but at the same time bieng able to deliver Cc and Bcc recipients in the same email.

I don't know much about SMTP filtering, but I know it could do the job if done right.

I have been trying to figure this out all day...help!

I bought a new computer and accidentally entered the wrong email address when prompted to create a Microsoft Account.
I cannot change it in Windows 10, as I must first verify the original (wrong) email via a code sent to my wrong email address. Now, how can I access the verification code if I cannot access the wrong email address, which may actually belong to someone else, right?
I must change the wrong email address, but I'm not allowed to do this until I first verify that I own the wrong email address. Crazy...

Seting up my Windows Account on a new Windows 8.1 PC I entered an incorrect email address. Towards the end of the setup I was told to check my emails for the code needed to complete the setup process. Clearly I can't find the code because I gave an incorrect email address. So my Microsoft account is in limbo and I can't use it. The computer and Windows 8.1 work fine but I can't use my Windows Account. I've tried a number of things to sort this out without success. I recently purchased a new computer that has Office 2010 installed. I would like to move the contents of my .pts file from my old computer which has Outlook 2007 to my new computer which has Outlook 2010. Before, when I wanted to transfer my .pts file from one computer to another I would just copy the file to a portable hard drive and then transfer the file to the other computer. However, Outlook 2010 is completely different animal. When I go to C:, Users, App Data, etc., new computer, it is completely different from my other computer that had Vista. My question is, how can I transfer my .pts file and/or my address book, calendar, contacts, etc. for my older Windows Vista computer that had Outlook 2007, to my new computer that has Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 installed? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Hello referee07;

Copy your .pst file from your old computer to the new one or your portable hard drive.

To launch the Outlook 2010 Export/Import wizard, first go to File menu, navigate to Open, and click Import.

In the Import And Export wizard, select Import from another program or file option and hit Next

Under File Type, select Outlook Data File(.pst) and hit Next

Now choose the file to import, select the options, and hit Next

Once done, finally select the folder to import from(if you want to import complete data don&#8217;t change any settings) and make sure Include subfolders is checked. You can either import the file to the current folder or choose the folder.

I am using Outlook 2003 and run Windows XP.

When I create a new message I begin typing the name of the recipient and I would like it to match up with an address I have in my Outlook contact list. However, it does not read from there. It only seems to look at addresses that I have already sent to in the past. How can I get it to read from the address book? If I click on "TO" or "CC" it brings up another window with a list of addresses from my contact list. From there I can have it pull from the list. I would like to be able to do it withot the extra step.

That is how autocomplete works, from used addresses stored in the NK2 file.

I am trying to allow a third party program to allow access to the address book to allow access that address book to generate e-mails from the program but I cant seem to find out how to change this?  Any ideas?

Since you have told us the name of this "third party program", how could anyone advise you on it?  Have you investigated the possibility of exporting your address book to a file, perhaps in CSV format, and then importing it into the third party program?  I'm assuming the third party program has it's own address/contact list.

I have had to reinstall pc due to it going at a crawl!!

After installing Outlook 2002, I can not get Outlook to auto fill the email address field when I start to type an email address in it.

The address book is there and in tacked after copying the outlook.pst file back to its original location after install.

How do I get Outlook to autofill?

Also when I click the 'TO' button in the new email window, it says that there is no address book!
but when I click the address book icon in the main Outlook window there are email address there?!

Any ideas how I can get this to work correctly again.

When you did the re-install, did you erase/format the hard drive before the re-install? If you did and did not save the Outlook auto fill file, then the all the auto fills you had are gone. Did you import the pst file into outlook?

Hello.
I've just found a pst file with all my old email. I'd like to put them back on the server (hotmail) but before doing that I've seen that some of them were not recived (or sent) to my actual address (@hotmail.com) but to an old one (@infinito.it). So I was thinking to export them from outlook 2013 to CSV, modify that address into the new one and then import them back on outlook 2013. The problem is that when I export them to CSV, in that file they don't have the date (received or sent) and so when I get them back on outlook 2013 they miss that info.
Can anyone help me doing this? I've been told that VBA macro should be useful for this, but having a look in it I have no idea of what I sould do.
Ah, instead of outlook 2013 I can also use thunderbird (45.3.0) if it's easier with it, but then I'd have to convert that pst file.

When trying to email to a specific internal email account, my email leaves my system and
does not arrive at the destination account. The destination account also happens to be the "administrator" and the email does get to the administrator email account. Any ideas?

I am trying to set up a second imap email address using Outlook 2007.
My first address work fine.
When trying to use the second address I am unable to change the delivery folder for new items. There is no Change Folder radio button, not even a greyed out one. I have found lots of advice on the Microsoft help pages but none of it works (no change there then!).
How can I change the folder? I am unable to use the new address until this folder is changed.

Not quite sure what you mean. Outlook creates a separate folder for each imap account. POP accounts share an inbox but imap does not.

Dealing with different E-Mail clients [installed] and online/Webmail has become one of the most frustrating issues of the last few years.

Outlook Express was discontinued, last came with Windows XP. Windows Vista had Mail and Windows 7 had no built-in E-Mail Client. With Outlook Express the contacts were in the Windows Address Book and the file name was some_name.wab, whatever the user set the E-Mail up as. Outlook Express did not use the 2003 and 2007 version titles, that was with Microsoft Outlook, part of Microsoft Office which used different storage techniques. Generally both types could Export contacts as .csv files which could be used in other programs or even as a spreadsheet in such a program as Excel, QuattroPro, etc. Win7 and newer have a Contacts listing in C:\Users\user-name that also can be exported.

i have been trying to fix my email/outlook spam issue.  emails are going out WITH my actual email address, sending emails to people in my contacts, etc.
I also have been getting a ton of spam emails myself.
 
I use:
 
-Windows 7 Pro
-64 Bit
-Outlook 2010
-I have our own domain name email address, that is hosted by Frontier
 
Odd thing:  I changed my password for my email, but my outlook kept sending/receiving with the old password.
When I tried to update  the new password in outlook (which I verified by using the webmail versus outlook), it would not accept it.

Hello.

This is strange. Every time an email address is entered into a cell, the font is big. The column had been formatted as size 12, black font. But the data appears in font size 18, blue font, underlined.

I have a Mac, Excel 2007.

Any idea what to do?

Intermittently, Outlook 2007 will crash while sending an email and, needless to say, the email is not sent. However I wanted to know if there is a temp or backup copy of that mail anywhere. I've looked in drafts and it's not there.

I've sometimes typed a very long email and then lost the whole email when Outlook crashes so I just wanted to know if, like Word, there is a temp file that may be created.

I have got a client she has an exchange server 2007 installed on SBS 2008.

She has no problem to send and receive emails through the exchange server except when she sends an email to this address ([email protected] ,I made it up)!!!!!!

The message stays in the exchange&#8217;s queue and it won&#8217;t be delivered to the nominated address, with the below error :

If her email on the exchange server has a problem it shouldn't be able to send emails to all domains from the first place

I tried to flush DNS on the client&#8217;s exchange server but no joy

What I did as a troubleshoot I sent an email to : ([email protected]) from our work exchange server 2007 installed on SBS 2008 (i.e. different exchange but almost has same setting as the client) the email went through and the recipient replied me to confirm that he received my email.

Hi guys heres one that is driving me nuts.
an email account is set up with an isp here , its btconnect.com
so the email is say [email protected]
now joe has two email aliases on his account e.g.

[email protected]
and
[email protected]

now when joe accesses his account through outlook it obviously checks the btconnect account and sends the mail to the correct alias, but it cant seem to do it.
what happens is , it logs on checks one alias then the server errors whilst checking the other as it is still logged on i assume to the main btconnect mail account and so errors out

e.g [email protected] works and roofing.co.uk errors out
i would like to find a way to check flooring first and roofing after but cant figure it out
someone suggested using identities in outlook express but isnt outlook the better program and surely there is some kind of feature for this problem

usually after it gets its bearings it is then happy and says send receive complete but after a couple of tries and leaving an error message at the bottom of the screen

maybe using rules in outlook would help.
I could just check mail from the BT account
e.g. [email protected] and filter the mail for the aliases into the corresponding mail box, but how then if a mail is written in outlook could it be send from the correct account.
e.g [email protected] or [email protected] rather than the mail appearing as though it was sent from [email protected] , wow outlook is confusing stuff lol.

1. Re-installed Outlook
2. Deleted profile and re-loaded
3. Look at pssible error from MS updates

Hey all! I need alittle help. I am trying to move all of my emaill addresses and saved emails from Outlook Express on one computer. To Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 on a second computer. I've never had to do this before, but I have to now. Because it's not for me. If you guys and girls can help me out with this it would be awesome. I need to get this don tomorrow. This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". I work for a company using Vista with Outlook 2007 for our client database.

We currently have some 4,800 client records on our database and have recently noticed that some of the addresses are being 'stolen' from other cards on the database. They are, in effect, copying the address from another record and replacing the one that was originally there!

A lot of the time it is from the next record above in the alphabetical list of companies but sometimes it is a random thing throughout the database.

Is this a known issue with Outlook and if so does anyone know of a fix?

I'm using Outlook 2007 on a Windows 7/64 bit.
In Outlook the column with the IM address won't update old or new IM addresses.
I can however copy and past the IM in the column-fields, which makes them available or visible.
Tried repair office, or scan-repair PST, but no result.
Maybe the address-book is damaged?
Tried an old backup of PST, no result either.

Anyone any idea?

I have a large number of contacts in my address book in Outlook 2007. I want to create a different address book for a small sub group of these addresses and despite numerous attempts I am unable to do so. I have followed the example in the help section of Outlook but this doesn?t work.

This works in 2003, not sure about 2007: click on Contacts, where you have the list of Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks etc (mine is at the bottom left of the Outlook screen). This should then show the Contacts folder in the blank bit of screen above it. Right click on Contacts, select New Folder and call it what you like. Then go back to your original Contacts, open the folder and thendrag and drop the ones you want to move.If it doesn't work for 2007, my humble apologies!

Just got a new computer with Vista and Office 2007. Didn't realize I was in for such a big change.

I availed myself of the offer to get a special cable and software to facilitate transferring everything from the XP to the Vista and it worked reasonably well.

The problem--I can't establish an Address Book. All my contacts are there, although the form didn't transfer quite right (that's a problem for another post), but I have no address book. The help I've been able to get says to right click on the Contacts folder, pick properties, go to the Outlook Address Book Tab and pick the folder as an Address Book. The problem is that all the options are grayed out--I can't select an address book. The textbox with the name of the address book says "Contacts," but I cannot select the checkbox that allows me to select it as an address book.

So, if someone could please tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'd be very grateful.

My address book in OUtlook 2007 is completely empty. I found the contents by going to Start > Accessories and see where I can import it, but I don't know how to do that. When I go to Import Address book (WAB), it takes me to My Documents and tells me Select Address Book File to Import From. There is nothing there but my personal files I've saved. What can I click to restore my addresses??

It sounds like your contacts folder is not listed as an Outlook Address Book. Right-click your contacts folder and go to Properties and then the Outlook Address Book tab. Check the box for "show this folder as an email address book". Hope that helps.

I just installed Outlook 2007. I have 2 problems. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I can't import my address book from Windows Live, Hotmail or Gmail. I have searched and can find only the opposite (to export). I have exported from Windows Live,Hotmail and Gmail, but they are different and won't work. The other problem is I can't change the stationary. It is grayed out and says no other themes installed. I reinstalled the themes and put in the extras. I have folders named stationary that has files in them. you can click on them and see them. I can't find a way to tell the program where they are. Any help will be appreciated.

My operating system is Windows 7 64-bit. I transferred all of my files from my old computer, which ran XP--SP3. My email client on that computer was Outlook 2007.

After transferring the files I loaded Outlook 2007 onto the new computer and carried out whatever setup instructions I was given.

The standard toolbar on Outlook has a search box labeled "Search address books." On my old computer, if I wanted, for example, to look up a contact's phone number, I could search via that box and find the contact. On the new computer no name comes up in that box when I search it. It's empty.

To look up a contact I have to go from the Email page to the Contacts page and search in a box labeled "Search All Contact Items." All of my contacts are in there (actually, they're in there twice; somehow duplicate contacts folders were made), and the search box locates them.

I do not have a problem with email addresses. When I begin to type the name of a contact in the "To" box of an email, a list of contacts' email addresses appears in a drop-down box, just as it did on my old computer.

I want to include all of my contacts in the address book that appears on the Outlook toolbar. Can anybody tell me how to do it? Thanks.

Good morning,

I am trying to share an address book on outlook 2007. I have been able to successfully share contacts but I can't find a way to share the address book. When you go on the properties for the shared contact list there is no tab for outlook address book so I can't choose the option 'Show as address book'.

I am running Outlook 2007 in Windows 7 Ultimate on both machines.

I have been trying all morning to export - import my Outlook Address Book from my PC (4 years old) to my new laptop.

Can anybody point me to Microsoft's instructions or can anyone tell me how it is done?

Please do not confuse 'Contacts' with 'Address Book'. I want to be able to click the "To:" button on new email to bring up my addresses. (To: Cc, Bcc etc)

Greetings! I have an employee who's telling me that a certain selectable list in his Address Book menu is populated while he's here in the office, but blank when he's away. He's telling me that his "Contacts" selection in the Address Book drop-down (shown in the attached pic) is blank when he isn't here. How can I keep that from happening? He's running W7 with Outlook 2007.

Hi,
I am trying to share my address books over my companies network to allow all staff to access/add/edit as nesscessary. I have shared my local contacts to all collegues, however although they can open the contacts lists in outlook they are unable to select the address book when composing an e-mail.
Could somebody please help with this, or suggest an alternative?

P.S I have tried implementing another GAL however I cannot import my locally saved contacts and would have to input them all manually (2000+ contacts) which would not be very time/cost effective.

I work as a DBA for a company where suddenly some users started facing some issues with there outlook 2007 , when they try sending mails internally or externally , they get this mail bounced back from system administrator :

the e-mail address could not be found . perhaps the recipient moved to a different email organization or there was a mistake in the address . check the address and try again.

PS: don't know if its related but ,they recently had issues with incoming mails on there exchange server 2003 , due to low space on C drive. so, i moved it to D drive . it got fixed but then this random issue started . some times they can send mails but the very next moment they get this message.

Ok,

First time for me here. I looked but didn't see "my" situation. However, I'm kind of a neophyte.

Win 7, 64 bit, Office 2007.

When I started my computer this morning, I was in the process of sending electronic Christmas cards. I opened Outlook 2007 and opened my address book to get emails. To my surprise, it was empty. Huh? This had never happened before. I clicked on the contacts in the lower left of Outlook. It says something about folder cannot be used. I opened a new email and typed "a" in the address box. There were my contacts. Auto fill works like a charm. I even tried to re-entry my contacts into my address book. I entered 3 of them. I clicked "Save and close". Then I opened my address book and none had been saved.

The only thing I did that was different was I created a Standard account, because I was advised to use it instead of the Admin account. I did not like it at all and deleted it. Everything is the same except the address book and contacts list.

Does anyone have a clue what happened? Any advice would be very welcome.

In outlook 2007 when I respond to an email it just goes to my outbox and sits there. when I look at the email in the outbox, I see that it put the address in apostrophes. any idea what would cause this? How can I stop?

I have an issue that relates to OUtlook 2007 address book. When I go into the Global Address list and double click on the contact, the properites come up but when I try to click on the same contact more than once the properies box doesn't come up. So basially I can't view the properties for a contact twice. It's almost as though it thinks the properies box is still open. This is happening to all users. After this occurs when a user closes out Outlook, Outlook.exe process keeps running and uses over 90% of cpu. We are not using cache mode in Outlook.

I have tried disabling all the Outlook Add-ins to see if a third party add-in was causing the issue. I have tried re-creating the profile and reparing Outlook. I tried downloading a copy of the Global address list. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Long story short....I got called over to a friends Mom's house. Her Outlook 2007 (Full Outlook...not Express ) on her Laptop was having problems and someone else got there first and exported all her contacts and profiles to go ahead and import it to her Desktop PC that she does not use. (This was to be a temporary solution)

I came over and her problem with the laptop outlook 2007 is that when she composes an email Outlook does not see her "addressbook", even though if she clicks on "contacts" folder everyone is there.

I went thru all the steps on the following page to "add the address book service to the profile" and to then "get outlook to recognize the address book on the profile"

None of this worked. I then advised her I would just uninstall ALL of Microsoft OFFICE and then re-install it and that should solve the problem since will have to re-enter all the account info into Outlook. So I uninstalled Office. REstarted the Laptop. Then installed Office on the Laptop. Then I opened up Outlook via the program menu bar. When it opened, it showed up all her folders and inbox and account info as before. It was as if the program was never uninstalled!!! I always double check when I restart a system via the control panel to make sure the program is no longer showing up.

Is there some other magical way to uninstall Outlook in Vista??? My only other option for her is to press "Control F... Read more

2. Is Microsoft Office fully patched using Microsoft update? (not windows update)

Microsoft Office never fully uninstalls, no utility that I know of to fully clean the system either.

I have an iPhone and began using it when I had Outlook 2007 running under XP. Everything worked fine. I got a new laptop with Vista 64-bit. Now when I sync my iPhone everything still works just fine .. except for contacts where I have associated an iPhone picture with them. The contact (including the picture) lives in my 'Contacts' in Outlook 2007 but when I go to send a new e-mail message to one of those contacts they do not show up - any clues how to resolve? I have many contacts in my Outlook 2007 "Contacts", all added by hand (my last computer was stolen). However, they do not appear in the address book.

I found this error documented under the title "Contacts are missing when I click the To, Cc, or Bcc buttons" in the Outlook 2007 help file, but the fix does not work:

(1) Under Contacts Properties > Outlook Address Book, the option to use this folder as an address book is greyed out and unavailable, so I proceed to part (2) of the fix.

(2) I go to Tools > Account Settings > Address books and "Outlook address book" does not appear under Name. I follow the directions for adding one, exit Outlook, and wait for a few minutes before restarting.

The situation is the same: the requisite checkbox is still disabled. Gnargh!

Somehow the address book that populates when I click the "to" button on an email disappeared.

I followed the MS forum directions to add an address book and did the following:

Under the Tools menu, I picked "account settings" then the "address books" tab

There it shows: Outlook Address Book MAPI

The only options available are "new" and "change". The remove option is grayed out.

I picked "new" and then selected "Additional Address Books", then clicked "next"

The choices were:
Mobile Address Book
Outlook Address Book

so I picked Outlook Address Book then clicked next and got the message:

"This account or directory type already exists and cannot be specified twice"

I'm not sure what to do since the option to first remove it is not available. I tried the "change" option and removing
the existing address book that way, but that does not work either.

I also had read that I should try deleting my email account and creating a new one. I did that (for my default email account
since I have three) but that did not help either.

It seems that it will not let me add a new address book as long as the old one (that comes up empty) is still there, but it
won't let me delete the old one either. By the way, my contacts in Outlook are still there, I can view them when I go to the
Contacts section from the main Outlook page.

Any suggestions?

I know that 07 Word saves files in a .docx file that is not usable by the 97-03 Word and same goes for PowerPoint and Excell. My question is does this occur with Outlook 2007 also? I have a friend who said that he can't read my Outlook 2007 email to him (he uses the older version of outlook). Is there a way to change it so that I can send 2007 Outlook emails to people with the 97-03 versions?

OK... well I thought I had it covered but.... I copied the pst file from 2003 and tried to open in 2007. I recently read somewhere that you have to copy the pst when Outlook is closed. I did not close Outlook and copied the file while Outlook was open. Anyway to rescue these Emails? The old drive is toast so I can't do that. The pst file is 79mg so I suspect the info is there. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I'm working on my friends pc. It's a Dell Dimension 4400 running XP Home. He called me over cuz he wasn't able to connect using his dial-up connection. His ISP is NetZero and they couldn't help him. It would dial in, confirm his password, disconnect and start dialing again.
I took the pc with me and I tried it on my broadband network. I scanned it with Avira and Malwarebytes and it found a bunch of stuff. MB wasn't able to update but I noticed that Avira was.
I was connected to the internet or so the the pc indicated but wasn't able to load a page. The only way to load a page was to type in the IP address of the website. For example if I wanted to connect to Yahoo.com and I typed Yahoo.com in I couldn't connect but if I typed in 69.147.114.224 the page would load.
And therein lies my question...What in the world is going on here and how do I correct this?

Hello everyone,
I am asking for help on one particular problem.
If you could spare some time here is my question:
- I run Win7 Ultimate and Outlook 2007.
- I enter my hotmail address into Outlook Connector, so Hotmail is my default message handler in Outlook. Every thing runs normally until I discover that I cannot sync my Contacts with my iPhone, either with iTunes or with MobileMe, although the "Contacts" folder in Outlook contains 300+ names.
After some investigation I found some explanation:
- The Contacts displayed in the Contacts folder of Outlook are from my hotmail address book (contacts in EMAIL REMOVED), and the Outlook contact book is empty!!! No wonder that the result of the sync is nil, because the only option in the sync procedure is to sync Contacts with Outlook.
In order to sync my contacts with my iPhone I think that I need to Move/Copy/Import all the contacts from (contacts in EMAIL REMOVED) to the Outlook Address book.

Answer:Windows 7 Outlook 2007 Address book and Sync with iPhone

Well, you can copy/paste them by doing Select All (CTRL-A) on the Hotmail contacts list in Outlook, then Copy (CTRL-C), then switch to the Outlook contact book and Paste (CTRL-V). That should hold you over until a little later this summer when Hotmail adds official support for wireless iPhone contact syncing via the Exchange ActiveSync protocol.

I installed win 8 over xp pro. I then needed to reload office 2007 which included outlook. mail, tasks, contacts all work fine. my address book is lost. I copied the pst files before updating. I reloaded the pst but I get an error message saying it cant fine anything. I then reloaded the new pst and all is fine except no address book. I have average computer knowledge. thank you

I recently got a new HP laptop with Vista/Outlook 2007 (coming from XP & Outlook 2003). My email & Contacts imported nicely to the new computer but my Address Book is blank. I tried right clicking on the Contact folder but the option "show this folder as an email address book" is greyed out.

Also, Internet Explorer says "Internet Explorer has stopped working" each time I launch it and the only fix I've found is to reset it to default settings each time I launch it. Very annoying! Any ideas on how I can fix this? Is it a known Vista problem?

Hi,
I have been using Outlook 2007 for some time (contents were entered manually on new laptop and not transferred from old system) the address book and Contacts worked perfectly for a while then all of a sudden the address book went blank. Contacts are still OK.

I have looked through various threads but to no avail.

Any help, greatly appreciated.

There's practically no limit how many email addresses youy can put on Outlook. I'm using Outlook 2010 with 7 emails. Please tell us what version of Outlook (Office XP, 2003, 2007, 2010?) you have, so we can tell you how to add email accounts.

Hello again. I just set up an Outlook Express 6 account. I use winmail for my POP3 and Smtp servers. When I set up the account, it asks for an email address. I read the help thing but it doesn't make sense. "The email to access this account." I figure it means, if I send stuff to the Email I provide, it will come to outlook. I provided my hotmail account. Then I sent a test message to my hotmail account and it didn't forward to Outlook. *Maybe I am looking at this the wrong way. Do I actually have an "Outloo"k account, like [email protected] or something like that? I am doing this because I want people to send email to my Gmail account then forward it to my Outlook account (don't ask why). Someone please help.* How does Outlook update. I feel that I need to exit and return again to outlook to see if a message came. Do i need to refresh anything or does it do it automatically every second?

Hi Everyone,

I can receive my email on outlook2007, but I can not reply nor send email through outlook; I receive the following error message: ,<< Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).>> . Everything else works fine on these other networks, but I have to go to my server websites that I am pulling my email from to be able to send or reply to them. Any idea what I have wrong please?

Windows 7 COMPAQ HP 64 bit and OUtlook 2007.

First thing I would check is in the advanced account settings check the SMTP server TAB and that the "my server requires me to log on) is set and the "use same settings as my mail server" is on.

Also check the port settings, if set for SSL or TLS try without or auto and vice versa

Not sure if the actual options I've given are correct wording but you should be able to see the ones I mean

It may take a few tries to get things sorted but it should be one of the above

I have a problem sending emails using outlook 2007 I receive mails perfectly alright but when I try to send a mail I get a message "the operation failed. An object cannot be found" I have checked my settings and have sent a test email using the microsoft set up box, that works fine but I still can't get any of my outgoing mails to go. I can't seem to find anyone else who is having this problem and I can't find help from Microsft without paying $50, soooooo here is the problem.
I can't get Email to work on outlook. I tryed (way more then once) to set up a new acount by going into Contacts - Mail - and set up a new file. but when I put in my email information it can't find anything. Crypted or uncrypted. So what can I do??

Nevermind, figured it out. The MS Hosts file was corrupted/changed. Ran HostsXpert to fix.

I recently discovered that my "return to" address in Outlook Express is incorrect and so people who reply using the button get their messages bounced back at them. I searched the computer and eventually found a file, USER.DAT, which contained the mistakes. I used Wordpad to edit the file and had a bad hour or two when my computer seemed to regress a couple of years and I had to dig out/download various driver files. I had copied the USER.DAT file and restored it, but at start up the computer still looks for various files from Norton Anti-Virus which I don't use any more and I have to press the good old any key to get things to load.So: is there any way of editing the "return to" address? What can I do about the problems re the computer expecting to find files which are no longer there?

I have IE6 on XP and when I enter an address into the adress bar and hit enter, nothing happens to the ie browser window but the address entered then opens in a new firefox window?

Or if I do get a page to load in ie6, if I click a link on that page, it then opens that link in a new firefox window.

I also have ie7 installed to a temp location so I could test it before doing a full install but it has been working for a while without a problem until recently. IE7 still works fine.

I did the scan with the winxp cd to check my system files.

It is also kind of random and doesn't happen all the time or if I close and restart ie6 it will usually work fine again for a while.

Any ideas on how to fix or what caused it?

10 days ago I moved from an XP machine to a new Win7 machine using Win Easy Transfer. I re-installed my Office 2007 and all my emails and Contacts showed up in Outlook but I cannot select the check box that says Show Contacts in Address Book because it is greyed out. In researching this issue in the MS forums, there was consensus that WET screws up the Outlook transfers At the suggestion of other folks, I have tried copying the original PST file directly, copying it and importing into the new Outlook, created a new profile and directed it to the original PST file, and removed the OAB service from my profile and re-installed it. None of this has worked to fix this problem; the checkbox in the properties folder for each Contact folder is still greyed out.

I have been struggling for the last 9 days to find an answer to this problem and at this point I am contemplating uninstalling and re-installing Office 2007 (after saving the current PST file with my new incoming emails) and then bringing a copy of the "old" PST into the new Outlook data location and creating a new profile again. If it works properly, then I will migrate to the new profile. Then I can delete the "new" re-installed profile. Since this is a LOT of work, I would appreciate hints, tips, or actual solutions to this before I wipe out Office on my new machine.

In the CONTACTS section of Outlook 2007 there are various default settings that I don't like. But I don't find options to change them.
1.
The main one is that the address box LOOKS as ONE field, but is in fact a collection of invisible fields: Street, City, State, Zip, Country. What you type in that big box is sometimes unclear to Outlook, then it pops up an edit box with all the separate fields. Sometimes there WAS already a (default) Country/Region in the box and then the result of a printed address could be: John Johnson, 1st Street 1, LA, CA 98765, USA, The Netherlands.
I would prefer to see the 'split' address view by default. How?
And if it is not possible, how can I force Outlook to show the split box when I need it?
2.
The same address box has two options, business and home. Business is shown by default, so often I type private addresses in the wrong box - with confusing results when grouping, printing etc.
Can BOTH the Home AND the Business address box be displayed at the same time?
If not possible, then can I instruct Outlook to display the Home box by default?
3.
Similar problem with the Email box. I always have to use the dropdownlist to see/edit/use a 2nd or 3rd email. In this time where many people have several email addresses, at least 2 of them should be visible by default in the standard view.

I have a user running Outlook 2003, configured to an Exchange server. The problem lies in the Sent folder, more specifically when he sorts his sent email by name. Names show up Apostrophe?s next to them and then sometimes they don?t. This is causing the user some problems.It is my understanding n Outlook that names will show without apostrophe?s if they are apart of the company(Global Address Book), but external email address will show up with apostrophe?s to represent that they are outside email address. The user?s problem lies with his external email address. Hello,

You can clear the names cache (the list of address that auto complete) but closing Outlook then deleting the .n2k file located in \Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

That will stop the old auto fill and start creating new one.

Does anyone know where the file is that stores the autofill when typing in an e-mail. ex. once you type a letter or two in the to: field a couple names appear in a box that are possible matches. Basically i want to delete a few of the names.

It SHOULD not erase your address book but also consider that you can export your address book for backup as well. Backups are important so if you do this, it's a non-issue

I am changing my Internet company next week and this will mean I get a new set of email addresses that I can set up to my hearts desire in my new domain.

Question is:

Will all my current rules apply to the mail I receive at present from different people after they have updated there info with my new address? Or will I have to delete the rules and start again as and when I receive the mails? I am thinking probably the latter will apply though

You 'll be using the same version of Outlook with the new email address as well right? You could export the rules (Tools > Rule Wizard > Options > Export Rules) just in case it loses them. Then import them again later when you've got the new email address(es) set up.

you're using. My answer is based on Outlook 2010, but it will hold good for most recent versions.When you type a new email you'll see a 'from' button at the top left - just above the address field. Click the small arrowhead and you'll be presented with a list of all active email accounts; select the one you want to send from.As far as inbound mail is concerned, Outlook will lump it all together in your in-box unless you tell it to do otherwise. To sort incoming mail by account you can create a separate folder in the default inbox. Call it (name you choose) inbox, and then create a rule telling Outlook to place all inbound mail addressed to the account in the folder you've created.If you need more detailed help in setting all this up just ask.

Referring to your example, do you have any affiliation or account with bigapplesigns.co.uk? Is bigapplesigns.co.uk an actual, existing domain name?

I believe the answer to your question, if I understand it, is that you'll need to pay for a domain to use with your email address unless the domain name exists and you have a relationship with it which would permit you to use it in an email address. Clearly, if you own a website with the domain name bigapplesigns.co.uk, then you can use an email address such as [email protected]
