Windows 8 keeps locking the screen, seems maybe 1 minute after not touching it. I would like to set that to something like 20 minutes, but I can't see where to do that?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Try looking in Control Panel under Power Option settings.
You can adjust for Battery and Power options / to your needs.
Hey all...
Does anyone know of some good free (or inexpensive) software that will install on top of WinXP and control/limit usage on the computer by certain accounts? I'm specifically looking for software that will allow a certain user account to stay logged in for a limited amount of time.
I'm building a PC for my aunt and one of the things she really wants is to have some sort of software that will actively enforce a time limit for each of her kids' computer usage.
Of primary concern is the time limit functionality, logging of sessions would be good too but not totally necessary. The software should be fairly bullet proof because kids are smart these days.
Any idears?
I am not really sure, but i will help with some research, i know if you have a fairly decent router you can control times of the internet, but not sure on pc usage itself
I was wondering if it was possible to set something so that no matter who logs into the computer the screen saver will never come on and the monitor will never turn off and how to do it. We are on a domain here and use Terminal Services, so we don't want this to disconnect our sessions. Thanks.
The only way to do it is to login as each user and set it up. I am pretty sure there is not a way to make it unversal.

More repliesIs there any way to keep the lock screen from shutting me down if I don't do anything on the keyboard for a minute or 2 minutes, or whatever it is? Then I clicked on "Settings" in the Start menu and got totally lost in all that stuff.
More repliesHello, I like seeing AM/PM on any time value. I already know if it's AM or PM, but it looks more Proper to see the AM or the PM with whatever time it is.
What Registry modification/Program can help me achieve this?
Thanks
You can change the time format, how time is shown on Windows notification area freely but AM / PM is regardless of your settings never shown in Windows Clock and lock screen if 24 hour clock has been selected.
To change how time is shown on Windows desktop, select Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Region, click Additional settings:
Now change time formats manually typing any of the following values for short time. Add :ss for long time for seconds:
h:mm
12 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM
h:mm tt
12 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM
hh:mm
12 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM
hh:mm tt
12 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM
H:mm
24 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM
H:mm tt
24 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM
HH:mm
24 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM
HH:mm tt
24 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM
Here I have selected 24 hour clock with AM / PM, but it's only shown in notification area. Opening clock does not show AM / PM, nor does lock screen, whatever settings I have chosen as long as I am using 24 hour clock:
Using 12 hour clock AM / PM is always shown in Clock and lock screen if selected.

Anyone else seeing this issue? If I put my tablet into standby when I wake it I don't get the lock screen and it just goes straight to the start screen or whatever app I was using. If I put it into standby again then I'll get the lock screen the next time I wake it but then the next time it won't appear again. I've checked and it's literally every other time.

4 more repliesHello, I used to use a reg file for Windows 8.1 to customize the time until the screen turns off during the Lock Screen Time Out. I want to know if that command still applies for Windows 10.
The reg file command is:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Lock Screen]
"SlideshowDuration"=dword:000493e0
(where the screen turns off after 5 minutes).
I have the formula to figure out what you need to calculate to insert after "dword" for the amount of time until the screen times out (goes black). Ask me for the formula... as long as the above works.
Thanks
Never mind. I went into the Registry and checked it out.
Yes, the same exact rules apply here like in Windows 8.1

Hello Sayan, and welcome to Seven Forums.
Not sure, but luckily for you, the Lock screen in Windows 8 will have this for you.
Lock Screen - Background Image - Change in Windows 8
So, I have searched the internet for what I am trying to find but the only thing that comes up is how to add a timer that will turn the display off after a certain time WHILE the lock-screen is on. That's not what I am asking.
What I am asking is if there is a way to auto-lock the computer after a certain amount of time. I know you can activate a screensaver after a certain amount of time, and then once touched again it will show up at the lockscreen. That's not what I want. I have the lock-screen setup to play a slideshow of pictures that I want to play when not in use. (This is a 58" touchscreen display that is used to interact with a powerpoint presentation in a public area). If I leave the desktop screensaver option on, it'll turn off the lockscreen slides. Why does that matter if the slideshow is running you may be asking? Well, I have a script on the desktop of this computer that will lock the computer with a single click. This is because when someone is done doing a presentation, I want them to be able to lock the screen immediately so that when they walk away someone can't just walk by and start messing with a wide-open computer.
So, idk if this is possible or if someone has a better solution but i'd appreciate any input.
Hello Forum,
To begin with i would like to congratulate the admin team for maintaining such an awesome forum. I never felt the need to register because most of my seraches landed to this site for solution except for this one, so here i am with my problem.
I have 2 week old HP pavalion notebook pc with pre-installed Windows 8.1 64bit single language. Untill few days back, when i presses windows+L the lock screen would pop up immediately. But now whenever i do it, it takes time to lock.
I clocked it and it took approx 30-35 sec to lock. I am not sure what might be the problem or if this is al all normal behaviour. Have to look at 'Please wait' screen for 30 sec to get lock screen image.
Kindly help,
Thanks.
plz deselect lock and problem solve.

I frequently am logging in and out of my Windows 8.1 laptop. I have a good, secure password that I use and because I'm human, sometimes I mistype it. The issue is that on these occasions, I am locked out for a good 30 seconds from attempting to
login, even for the second time.
I can understand the time delay if it were say, my 5th or 6th attempt, but for one attempt this is entirely too long. How do I go about significantly reducing this, or ideally removing it?
Thank you very much!

Hi, it sounds like you are talking about Glance screen.
Check out the post below which describes how to turn it off.https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...10-mobile.html
Hello,
First I want to point out that the "Play a slide show on the lock screen" is not the option that I'm looking for, since it remembers the original image that was set for the lock screen after I log back in, or restart the computer.
I am looking for an option that will always load a random picture from a certain folder to appear as my lock screen, every time the lock screen appears.
So for example, I turn on the computer and I see Image #1. I log into my account and after a few minutes I lock the computer. When I lock the computer, I want to see Image #7 as the lock screen. Now I restart the computer. Windows shuts down and starts up again. I am now at the lock screen again. I want to see Image #4. (The reason why those image numbers are like that is because they're random).
So does anyone know of an option in Windows that can do that, or a 3rd party program that can do that?
Thanks so much
It costs $1.99 but it sounds like exactly what you asked for:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/stor...r/9wzdncrdqvl5
I sign in with my MS account (administrator) and after signing in and using win+l the time format is correct hh:mm (24hr) but after each restart the time format reverts to h:m (12hr). This after successfully upgrading from 8.1 pro 64bit to 10. What am I missing? Thanks
More repliesHi,
apologies if this has been covered before somewhere else.
I am trying to remove the time and date from the lock screen. having searched I have seen several customisation options but the only one that actually covered this specifically was to make a change in regedit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SystemProtectedUserData\S-1-5-21-x-x-x-x\AnyoneRead\LocaleInfo
this brought about issues relating to administrator accounts which seem to be a common problem with windows 8.1.
nearly all of the solutions were not available to me but I finally found I could make the change in regedit by changing ownership of the file and changing the format of the time to a space. unfortunately the date is still showing.
how can I remove the date?
further, just to clarify, does the original account I signed in with have full administrator privileges? are they disabled and need to be enabled?
ive seen the tutorial on the built in elevated administrator account, this didn't work on its own either. do some files require a change of ownership to be altered regardless of which account you are signed in with including the administrator account?
any help appreciated
thanks
Brad

4 more repliesThe whole thing started to appear around 3 days ago. The problem is that everytime I boot, windows 10 stays on a weird lock screen without any buttons for a long long time. There are just 4 icons in the bottom right corner (shut down, accesibility, ethernet...) It sometimes manages to get to desktop, and sometimes not. Not sure what caused it, could be a recent windows update, not sure tho. I ran some HDD scans and everything turned out fine, also did a registry cleanup, tried disabling lock screen, and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions or solutions?
Welcome to the TenForums @Taukonza
Could you please review your update history and see if any updates for Windows or Drivers were installed in last week?
You mentioned when you boot. Not sure if this is happening on restart or power on or both. If it is power on booting can I suggest a quick test. Open a command prompt (admin) and type
powercfg -h off
This will disable hibernation and in turn Fast Startup. Test. If no change you can re-enable by typing
powercfg -h on
After you boot have you reviewed your Event Viewer to see if Windows is kicking out any serious errors to the system log?

14 more repliesHey guys, I have been having a pretty major dilemma with my computer. So basically:
A few days ago (January 11, 2018), I downloaded the new windows update (forget the name every time ). It was initially working out quite well. Fast forward to like four o' clock, when I leave home for a few hours. I then come back to my computer, awakening it from its sleep, and then the lock screen is utterly broken. It appears as a white screen with red and green (maybe blue too???) lines running to and fro. My cursor as well appeared as a jumbled mess of black pixels. I have been dealing with this dilemma for the past few days (today is January 16 2018 at time of writing), and I have had no luck searching for help. If you have any knowledge of what is happening, or can offer help, then please offer it, that will be wonderful.
EDIT: Oh, forgot to include this, but I have tried a malwarebytes scan (probably at January 12, 2018), but it did not come up with anything important.
I regularly use the 24 hour time format for all of my systems.
Its not a major issue I have now with Win10, but its annoying a bit.
Before I logon to Windows 10, the default lock screen theme has the time in 12 hour format instead of the 24 hour format.
In Windows, I set everything in 24 hour time. Period. I just don't like 12 hour time.
However, when I sign out or just by locking my screen, it does show the time in 24 hour format.
But when I reboot my system it shows the time in 12 hour format.
Is this a bug or what in Win10?
Thanks!
Mine shows 24 hour.

Hi,
how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?
I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks
Hi,
You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Does anyone know if you can put time restriction on a xp?
Vista has time limit which you can block certain times that you can't access the computer.
You can do it from the CMD prompt.
net user username /time:M-F,08:00-17:00
But you may just want to install Windows Steady State. That may give you better options.
Is there a program that works with xp (multi user’s logon) that after certain amount of time shuts the network connection off (cable Modem is hooked in it) till the next day. Say I want them to have access for 2 hours then disconcerts the internet and wont reconnect
I haven't tried this but, it's cheap and it comes with a guarantee!

If you have Windows XP, this function is already built in. HERE Hopefully you are familiar with CMD.
My usual ISP (giointernet) has reduced the ?ANYTIME? monthly time limit down to 50 hrs. (without letting me know!).
They certainly should have let you know, although it is mentioned on their web site.click hereAs their price is so much lower than their competitors, (£7.99/month), I don`t think you can complain too much as it is still good value.

I could rant, but I am restraining myself
The last two weeks I've been facing the following problem with the RTS game Lord of the Rings: BFME 2. After 3' 30" of real time gameplay I suddenly lose. I have checked all the settings to make sure there is not a timer on. The problem does not exist in the turn-based mode. A friend of mine told me that a seemingly irelevant program (internet using program) could be responsible. I uninstalled Earth 3d, e-mule and Game Spy Arcade. I also had weatherscope installed and since I could find no uninstall.exe file, I manually deleted it from C:/Program files. The only remaining on-line program is Google Desktop and the problem is still here.
P.S. I know it is a bit confusing post but please do your best. Ask me for any further info needed.
OK since noone has an idea on how to fix the problem I will have to reinstall the game. Is there any way I can keep my saves? Perhaps I can copy the save file from the current BFME folder and replace with it the new save file. Is that possible?
Hi. I have a folder with some deligate data. If, im administrator, how can I put limitation on that folder so that I can only delete one file at a time? And if I want to delete the entire folder so it will not allow me to delete it untill all files in that folder are deleted one at at a time?
The point is that i do not accidentaly delete this folder while files are in there and when I am inside the folder that I do not accidentaly delete all the files in the folder
...Don't accidentally delete the files or folder...
...Keep regular backups, Previous Versions keeps a backup of its own too.
Having kids online at home ... it's hard to keep them from staying online for all hours ... and makes it hard to call home when 'dialup' is the only source of connecting
Does anyone know of a good time limit program that will pop up with time remaining and then log off line?
I've seen similiar programs at the local library ... looking for program that will basically 'lockdown' computer should they try to reboot and get online again
Any and all input greatly appreciated

In WXP, how do you limit the amount of time available before a screensaver comes on? I know you right click on the desktop, go to properties, screensaver and then there is a time available before screensaver comes on. How do you limit the amount of time available to the PC? I.E. instead 600 minutes, 400 minutes, I want to limit the option to 10 minutes, so my kids dont leave the screen on forever when I amnot home. They learned how to change it, and instead of fighting it all the time, I just want to limit the availability of extra time.
I have them set up with there own user accounts too. Thanks, Steve
Press Windows Key + R, type gpedit.msc, press OK. The Group Policy Editor is launched. Go to Local Computer Policy > User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Display > Hide Screen Saver tab. This setting prevents users from using Control Panel to add, configure, or change the screen saver on the computer. If you select Enable, it removes the Screen Saver tab from Display in Control Panel. Hope this helps. :)

They are Virgin Media and currently don't support Vista so I continue to use my previous, unreliable, PC until I can. However, as I can't get online will there be a point when Vista thinks that I have passed a period to get it activated and stop working.
If you are not on the internet and you haven't registered over the phone then you haven't activated your copy of Vista. There should be alink on the welcome screen.

Ok, I am the administrator and I want to set a time limit on my account. I have been spending to much time working and I need it to kick me off at a certain time. The problem is that when I go in to add the time limit to my account it says it only works for standard users. I can't use a standard account because I am always changing settings and installing software and it would just be a pain to jump between accounts. Anyway is there a registry value or something that I can change to be allowed to set parental controls on an administrator account?
Thanks, Tim
Go into 'Power options' (control Panel) and set the monitor to shut off after so many minutes/hours ... this will be your cue to shut down your computer and walk away
9 more repliesI've got a friend's laptop running 8.1 here. They can't upgrade to 10 because a lot of the software they use for their work is extremely buggy and just about works on Win7 and 8.1 - She has been advised by the IT people working for her company not to upgrade to 10 until they give everyone the all clear to do so.
My question is, if I use the media creation tool on her laptop now to create an ISO, would that mean she could do the upgrade for free beyond this July?
I have read that it's necessary to do an inplace upgrade first in order to generate the necessary hardware id codes etc, but Im wondering if it's goes past the 12 month free period, if that notification will be gone or the ISO on the system will be useless?
The way I understand it, ALL free upgrades MUST be done before the July date.
On most trial software i download i have 15, 30 days to use it before it locks up and becomes unusable, is there a way where i could just change my bios clock if i need more time? or is there a software program out there that will allow me to disable this time limit?
Sorry no discussion of cracks, hacks or serials.
Just redownload it or consult mr torrence.
My sound recorder during recording analog to computer places a time limit of one minute only. How do I set it for at least 5 minutes or more?
Hi all. My girlfriend's daughter has a problem, instead of doing her homework and other things she needs to do, she gets distracted by the internet - like for hours at a time. Is there any program I can install that will limit the amount of time she can spend on it, like 2 hours per day for example? Thanks.
Pretty sure my WRT54g has a feature that allows disabling of a port during scheduled times. If they use a router it might have some kind of QOS feature like that.
just replied to a posting after submitting a query and received the following message:The request has exceeded the allowable time limit Tag: CFQUERYwhat does this mean?
More repliesHi
I am using Tor Browser Bundle. I visit a website which takes some time to get data and respond back. But Polipo cuts the connection and says Proxy error: 502. I want to increase timeout limit so it may wait for 3 to 4 minutes for the server to respond back.
Any ideas?
We have a small network which accesses the internet through a windows XP computer using Internet connection sharing. Is there a way that I can restrict users on other computers from accessing the internet for more than say 3 hours per day each? Thanks

Re: would know if ican setup a lock screen wheny computer boots up to completly lock
Don't log in :-D
Use a very difficult password. We have plenty of password generators on majorgeeks.
Enable the system admin account and password protect it.
Those two are probably enough. How advanced is he?
My friends dv7-1135nr is not posting. The num lock and caps lock led light will flash once every 2 seconds at the same time. According to HP this issue is a " not functional" cpu. I am ordering another cpu for 16.00 off ebay because this is cheaper opposed to ordering another board. Anyone else have this issue? And if so did you fix it ?

I have dropped it once or twice from at most a 3ft fall inside a padded case. I mostly use my computer for school work, some gaming, extensive video/photo editing, internet browsing. I've installed some debatable programs but have been installed long ago. Most of my programs included Microsoft Office, Adobe suite, Steam, iTunes, uTorrent, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, Winrar, VLC, etc. But are now gone due to the refresh I had just done last week for prior problems, but still experience problems.
I recently been having issues with my computer where it just won't respond at all. Like today, I had it working for a few hours, but then went out and left my laptop on the lock screen, and came back to it being completely stuck. Completely stuck as in, no keys or clicks would unlock the screen to the login prompt. However, my cursor was fully able to move around the screen, and my caps/num lock buttons work as they display the lights enabling/disabling them. The time when it was stuck was 8:03pm, but the clock was stuck on 7:55. But on the bottom of the front of the laptop, the HDD orange light is not lit up at all, which I believe suggest that the HDD is not reading/properly reading. Oddly e... Read more
Sounds like one too many drops killed the computer. You may get lucky and find a local mom & pop shop that will fix it cheaper then Sony.
3 more repliesI may have never noticed this in Windows 10 but after the 1607 anniversary update was released I noticed that Mail notifications that turned on the Action Center Icon and the Email subject and sender information in the action center, over time, would disappear without any intervention on my part. To be clear an email notification would arrive and the Action Center Icon would change to indicated that a notification was received and the details of that notification were listed in the action center but (A) I did not click on the action center icon (B) I did not open the built-in Mail application and (C) I did not open Outlook 2010. However, after being absent from my PC for a period of time, I noticed that the action center icon was no longer showing a notification and when I did finally open the action center there were no notifications there either. What I seem to remember was that prior to the 1607 anniversary update, if you clicked on the action center icon the icon would remove the notification highlighting but to actually remove the notifications themselves from the action center I had to either clear the individual notification or clear all notification or open Outlook 2010 and download my mail.
So, is this the behavior that others are seeing? If so, is there a way to control this so notifications simply don't disappear on their own?
Maybe it's a new feature
1 more repliesToday I noticed that the URLs in my address bar of IE9 (64-bit) is completely empty. This is strange to me, because the same list of URLs has been present for 2-3 years and I didn't clear browsing history or anything.
Some background that might be helpful: This not my personal IE browser. It's accessed within a system through my work network. It opens as the default browser when I click on a pre-set tab within a password-protected software platform my work uses. I can also access this browser when I am logged in remotely. For the past 2-3 years, I've been able to access all the URLs in the address bar dropdown--no matter my location--and now they're gone.
My question is, why is the URL bar suddenly empty, when I know I didn't delete anything or clear any history? I'm wondering if they "timed out" -- is there a time limit on how long IE stores address bar entries? Or, Could it be that my workplace's system admin reconfigured/updated some sort of setting, and that's why they're gone?
Any help or insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Sam
Hello my friend....
Is it possible someone else could have logged onto your computer and then cleared history? (I see you mentioned it is on a network) -- address bar entries ARE STATIC (They wont ever be removed unless you clear them/have your browser set to clear them when closed)

Im receiving an TO limit error while realtime rendering or creating a final render in blender 2.63 -
I've done everything including updating or changing drivers (ive connected Nvidia so ive tried out all the drivers they've supported me with), reinstaling Blender and even reinstalling system, but the error still remains. Im Rendering using GPU rendering Mode which was activated in blender file menu user preferences/system/compute device/CUDA. I dont understand why im getting the error since the Graph card performance is normal ive tested it with Stability Test and and it ran over 110 mins without malfunctioning till i stopped it. Now Nvidia had suggested me changing the TDR (whatever that means  ). I've created environment and models based on this image - so there's bunch of stuff in it.

1 more repliesWhen I connect to a remote Windows server using Windows native RDP/Remote Desktop Connection from my WinXP PC, I've got about 30 seconds to select a logon account and/or type in the password. We've recently introduced two-factor authentication for OS logon. In some cases where the remote server is slow, or there's a network lag because the server is on the other side of the globe, that 30 seconds isn't long enough for the remote server to read/interpret the cert on my smartcard and give me the opportunity to enter my smartcard password. At times, the screen just begins to give me the password field, and then it times out and ends the session. Is there some setting (either on my PC or on the remote servers) that can be changed to allow a longer period of time to enter logon credentials? Like, increase it to 45 seconds before timeout? I've been unsuccessful in finding anything online about how to extend this setting. I've looked at the Local Computer policy settings on my PC to see if any GPO's are setting that 30-second timeout -- nothing seems to be coming down from GP that I can see. I did go to Local Computer Policy > User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Terminal Services > Sessions and changed "Sets a time limit for active but idle TS sessions" from 'Not configured' to 'Disabled', but that made no difference. The idle session timeout configuration on all our remote servers it set a value m... Read more

I have recently moved house & have switched my ISP from Talktalk to BT Internet, as Talktalk told me that they wouldn't be able to give me a line for another 2 years or so since our new house was not on their property database.
I wish to have my email messages held on the ISP server deleted 20 days after they have been transferred to my PC, to limit the number that get transferred to my netbook when I am away on holiday. (i.e. Delete all those that have been read / dealt with on my main PC.)
This can be easily set on Talktalk, but for the life of me, I can't find an equivalent option on BT Internet. Does anyone know how to do it, or do all your messages have to be deleted on-by one on BT Internet?
I have BT and I have never found an option to do that either.
I don't know what Email client you are using to read your emails but the option to do that should be within your Email program and not The BT Server.
For instance I use Incredimail and have 2 options within that program -
Leave a copy of messages on server (tick or untick)
Remove from Server after -- days (Can choose any number of days up to a maximum of 100 days)

I apologize for how sudden this post is. I have until Monday, 8pm or so (tomorrow after posting this), to try and clean up the infection(s) on a friend's laptop. I am visiting my hometown and will have to head back to where I am usually at for college tomorrow. Otherwise, I'd have to wait a whole month to look at anything again and they do not have enough patience or knowledge to really do what needs to be done to get it cleaned.
I have a friend who was recently given a hand-me-down laptop computer. I recently discovered from talking to her that the laptop has some sort of malware infection. This was first determined when she was telling me that all of the sudden that she could not access the internet. I've recently been trying to get the infection(s) removed but it appears to be pretty stubborn and also appears to have numerous malware infections.
She was originally depending upon iOBit Malware Fighter as something to protect from malware and scan/removal. I kept that program on here for Malware scans/removal in the future, but decided to disable the protection and go with AVG Antivirus Free for that, which seemed to be helpful in removing some of the malware infection(s).
Before I tried some quick scans with iOBit Malware Fighter, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and AVG Antivirus, I uninstalled a few things that appeared concerning after some quick Google se... Read more

I've searched everywhere for a solution to this but have not found anything outside of restarting the machine.
I need to limit a Windows 7 computer to only allow one user logged in at a time. This machine has applications only allow one user to run them at a time. So if a user locks this machine and walks off and if the next user switches user and logs in, none of
the programs will work because the first user's session is now suspended.
Is there anything that will kick the suspended user off? So if a user forgets to log out and the screen is locked, the second user's login would force the first user to log off?
You can disable the locking function altogether so the initial user can't occupy the machine. (They will have to log off or risk leaving the machine unattended while still logged in.)
It is a registry change, check out:

I am a computer teacher at an elementary school. Since a lot of students try to sneak onto the internet when they shouldn't be, I would like to disable internet access for student accounts during certain times of the day. I know that Server 2003 can be used to control access to applications, but can it be set to certain times of the day? For instance, can it be set so that either the student group or individual organizational units can't access the internet from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm but have access at all other times?Thank you!

3 more repliesWell, I have no idea what caused this but the tablet buttons (even the on/off button) the lights for caps lock and scroll lock as well as the automatic screen orientation change when I flip it to be a tablet have stopped working. Also the screen does not turn off anymore when the lid is closed. Reinstalled pretty much all of the drivers, no effect.Any ideas? Is this thing already broken?
well, SOMETHING is broken.. though it would seen unlikely it is hardware.. a question: did you load anything new just before this happened..?anything at all..scanner drivers or printer drivers or a new application..? OH!, welcome to the lenovo community..!

Can anyone tell me how to eliminate the lock screen preview and bypass the 'Sign In' button on the lock screen?
I often put my computer to sleep then to bring it back (in Windows 7) I would simply hit the space bar and turn on my mouse and it would go straight to my desktop. Now, I hit the space bar turn on my mouse, and it takes me to the lock screen preview then I hit the space bar and it takes me to a lock screen where I have to click 'Sign In' even though I have no password set.
I'm guessing I'll no longer be able to hit the spacebar, turn on my mouse and go directly to the desktop but if I can hit the spacebar, turn on the mouse, then hit the space bar one last time, that would be satisfactory.
Turns out, the instructions I found to not require a password at the sign in screen did the trick for me.
1 more repliesI've tried searching through the forum but can't see anyone who has a similar issue.
I can access the lock screen settings and I can see all available apps and have set a detailed status app and a couple of less detailed ones. However, when I actually get to the lock screen after having set the apps to appear, there is nothing but the time and date and WiFi in bottom-right corner.
Could this be because I am logging in locally rather than using a MS account?
I'm having exactly the same issue, and I log in using a Microsoft account.

Good afternoon,
I just did a clean install of 7 to fix errors with my laptop, and it fixed one, but not the other main issues,
My caps lock, and number lock button on the keyboard don't have a light on it and the pop up that is supposed to pop up doesn't show up on screen.
I figured by doing a clean install it would all magically appear again... I was wrong, I have tweaked everything I could think of looking/trying to change setting from the keyboard in control panel, (including messing around with ease of use) and Gateways so called "support" area was of no help, as well as googling the issue has led me down a path of useless tips, I have also looked on this forum for help.
Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Ok, I have a problem I have set up the sound, and it does not play a sound.

If you are using Windows 8, then it is important to note that the on-screen indicators for Num Lock and Caps Lock are not available in Windows 8. To know more about this, you can refer to the link below:http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30035/~/no-num-lock-and-caps-lock-indicator If you are using Windows 7, you can check if following the steps below helps:1. Click on "Start".2. Type keyboard in the "Search" field.3. Double-click "Keyboard options".4. Go to "Key settings" tab and then, go to "Key settings" list.5. Locate and double-click "Caps Lock" and select the option "Display Caps Lock status on screen". Click "Finish".6. Follow Step 5 for Nums Lock as well. Hope this will resolve your issue.

More repliesHi. I recently bought a new R5-417T laptop, and in the process of personalisation found no intuitive way to disable the caps-lock or num-lock notifications. (Windows 10 btw) ^Notification in question^ How would I go about disabling this? I've tried looking in the BIOS, in regedit and some mythical "Launch Manager" program bundled with older acer laptops that I can't find a working version for.
Caps lock is thr Caps lock key.For Num lock try Fn and F11.
