Preferred Solution: No control pane in Google search engine

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: No control pane in Google search engine

Hi durkinjt Can you explain exactly what you mean by "no control panel in the Google Search engine"? Is this what you are referring to, the Google Custom Search?https://www.google.ca/search?q=google+search+engine+control+panel&espv=2&biw=1280&bih=899&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=JoEJVbz0HtO2yAS15YCoAg&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ#imgdii=_

I am trying to figure out why one of my computers redirects your search when you utilize Yahoo, Google, or MSN search. I enter in a topic and the options come up...once I click on any of those web sites I am redirected to other sites. If I use IE or Firefox this happens. I just want to clean up my system.
I have read many of the threads in forums about this but there are many answers so I am not sure which fix is for my system.

Thanks,
Haolegirl

Hello to all,
I have installed google chrome and I really like it. However it has one major drawback. It remembers what I have typed in google search bar.
How can I disable this?
I have uncheck every option in "under the hood" settings, but that is not it.
These search items disappear only when I do clear browsing data. But on the second use when I want to type something in google search item filed or just click on it everything that I searched in the previous session (if not cleared explicitly) is shown in form of drop down list.
Internet explorer and firefox allowed me to turn this auto completion whenI wanted.
Is it really that difficult in chrome?

Thanks

Answer:Google chrome remembers what I typed in google search engine

I think you can only block the search history in Chrome by using private mode.

Wrench icon > New Incognito Window.

This will prevent any searches, downloads and websites appearing in your history, and will delete all cookies when you close the window.

Has there been any update regarding the loss of search engine management that KB2988414 forced on us??? Simply put I cannot manage changing the search engine in WIN7x64 ENT images without them being changed back. I have tried the IEAK, GP, AutoUnattend.xml,
assorted scripts, assorted reg settings all with no success.
here is another reference and an acknowledgment of the issue:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/a50e93ec-0d63-4ed0-865e-79b62605ff46/kb2988414-and-default-search-provider-via-installins?forum=ieitprocurrentver

Answer:Lost Default Search Engine Control Due to KB2988414

Hi Optimum,
IEAK IE11-Setup-Branding package works here (Which need Internet Explorer 11 to install first).
After log off and log on again, the default search provider changed to the settings I have configured in the package.
For the full install package, currently I am not able to build the environment to test it.
So for the current situation, if it is considered to be an available method, you may create a Setup-Branding package after the installation of Internet Explorer 11.

Inside of the filter search box, type in:

hi.

In IE 11 on Windows 8.1, I can't add Google as (default or not) search engine in IE 11. When I click on "Add to Internet Explorer" in iegallery.com no dialog/pop-up comes up so I can't add it.

I have disabled the pop-up blocker of IE and disabled also privoxy that I use.

I had to run malware-bytes and adwcleaner, to clean my sister's laptop from minor malware (like binkiland), I don't know if it's related or not.

Is there some .reg file available to directly add to the registry Google search engine in IE 11 (desktop version) ??
Is there another way to add a search engine than iegallery.com (that does not work here), to IE search bar.

Thanks

Hey everyone..
New here and luckily I came across your site

So I have read many threads with the same issue as mine:

When I do a Google or Yahoo search, the results show up just fine. But when I click on a result, it begins redirecting me to all sorts of strange sites. These sites are mostly unknown search, commercial, and survey type sites. I even noticed some resemble a few of my past browsing history sites.

I DO have access to a windows install CD disc.
Below are the DDS results, I have also attached the attach.txt file:

Answer:Google / Search Engine Hijacked?

Hi,

Please do the following:

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here or here. Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
Double click GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO.

Click the image to enlarge it
In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ... Sections
IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in your next reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

I have a pc with windows xp home edition and version 5.1.2600. When I use a search engine; google or firefox to research I enter a description of what I hope to find in the search box then hit enter. In the next window I get what looks like good links to the information I want. When I click on that link I find myself looking at some ad for health products or old folks homes. Question is HOW do I stop the ads?

Answer:using search engine (google) being redirected

What are you searching for when the ads pop up? Are you clicking on sponsored links when the ads appear? Have you installed the Ad Block Plus add-on for Firefox? You can download it from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865.

What anti-spyware programs do you have? Have you run them to see if you have a spyware infection?

BTW, Google is a search engine; Firefox is a browser, not a search engine.

Answer:google search engine virus?

You have not posted the Attach.txt log from DDS, please do so, it should be on your desktop.

I am guessing that you are getting redirects using Google, you didn't actually explain what was happening. Please confirm if the problem is happening on any other browser and if you have any other performance issues.

Please run these two scans and post the logs:

SCAN 1
Click on this link to download : ADWCleaner and save it to your desktop.

NOTE: If using Internet Explorer and you get an alert that stops the program downloading click on Tools > Smartscreen Filter > Turn off Smartscreen Filter then click on OK in the box that opens. Then click on the link again.

Close your browser and click on this icon on your desktop:

You will then see the screen below, click on the Delete button (as indicated), accept any prompts that appear and allow it to reboot the PC. When the PC has rebooted you will be presented with the report, copy & paste it into your next post.

SCAN 2
Download RogueKiller (by tigzy) and save direct to your Desktop.
On the web page click on this:
Quit all running programs
Start RogueKiller.exe
Wait until Prescan has finished.
Ensure all boxes are ticked under "Report" tab.
Click on Scan.
Click on Report when complete. Copy/paste the contents of the report and paste into your next reply.
NOTE: DO NOT attempt to remove anything that the scan detects.

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.
After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:
If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different use... Read more

Hello, I seem to have a similar problem. For about a month now, every 2nd or 3rd attempt to use Google, and select one of the results gets me an unwanted ad or redirect to another search engine. I've run AVG twice, and installed AdAware to no avail. My son cleaned up some unwanted programs in my start up, and ran a disc defrag. Still happens. Any advice? P.S. I should add that I'm using Windows 7, and this problem occurs when I use Explorer. However, I've twice gone to Firefox, and found the same problem.

Dear Tech Support,

I am currently having an issue when using Google. When running a search and clicking on a link, 1 of 3 things occurs
1) the link works like normal (1/3 of the time)
2) the link changes, leading me to a search site or special offer site vaguely related to the link topic (1/3 of the time... ex. searching "white wine sauce recipe" and clicking on the first link lead me to a site list websites that sell white wine)

or

3) lead me to a "Connection Error" page while my fire wall brings up a window stating that the connection to the site has been disrupted because of detected spyware.

When any of the 3 options occur, it is an unanimous result when clicking on any of the links on the page.

About the same time, the spam on my gmail account increased dramatically to about 30-40 a day. Not sure if this is related but because it started happened on the same day as the google search problems, I'd thought I'd mention it.

I would be really grateful for any help you can offer. Thank you.

To make a long story short, I had to reformat my hard drive. When I finished, Microsoft updates automatically upgraded the version of Internet Explorer that was on my computer and when I went to use it I discovered that Bing was the default search engine in the upper right corner of my browser instead of Google.  I've never encountered this issue before. How do I change it back to Google? I don't like Bing. Thanks

Hi, I have a problem with some sort of malware that is causing any use of google to be blocked or redirect to a fake search engine.

This started around christmas day. I first noticed that if I try to use the google.co.uk or google.com quick search engine in firefox, any search resulted in the following page being displayed -

Not Found

The requested URL /search was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

If I then actually type in the google URL in the address bar, I get a search engine that looks like google, and even retains the google.co.uk/.com URL in the address bar, but it isn't google. The site appears to be called 'The Search' and provides a 'powered by google' entry field so that you can still carry out a google search from the page.

Having dug around a bit I think that the actual host of this search site is www.mavideniz.gen.tr.

I've followed the READ ME and the malwarebytes scan did appear to find some stuff linked to mavideniz, but even after cleaning this all up, I'm still get the problems. I've attached logs below. I couldn't run combofix as I couldn't get to the download site.

Any help much appreciated!

Cheers,

Steve

Answer:Google redirects to another search engine

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps.

Unzip HostsXpert.zip
It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
Click the Make Writeable? button. (if you only see a Make Read-Only selection, it is already writeable so skip this button).
Click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
Click the X to exit the program

Now download TDSSKiller from Kaspersky to your directly onto your Desktop

Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor. )
Allow the application to run if prompted by Windows or any security programs you have installed
It will start the scan and run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Now how are things working?

Hi,

I'm very new here, so this is my first post.

I believe i am having a similar problem. When i search on google, when i select on a link, a rogue IP address comes at the start of the address line followed with a whole random string of characters. Mbam is now blocking the access to the links but they are still trying to access pc etc.

I run with comodo and now Mbam, where i was using SuperAntiSpyware. I installed Avast which found 41 Trojans and Worms, but all scans now come up with nothing, except for a FakeAlert or something along those lines. I have also since removed Avast due to my pc locking up with it being installed.

Can anyone please advise? I have never had so much trouble removing a virus before, as normally one of the things i throw at it, will get rid.

Thankyou in advance for any help.

As title says, when I click the link results from a search engine I get redirected at times to a random site.I may have previously messed up part of my computer with various tools that deal with malware that try and fix it (like Malware-bytes and spy sweeper and various registry editors), which I probably shouldn't have... so the log may be a bit odd.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 10:15:07 PM, on 01/06/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007\aawservice.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\ekrn.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\oodag.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchIndexer.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\egui.exeD:... I've been trying to create a search string using google to search for all open employment listings for a certain city (reading, pa and surrounding towns). I've tried going thru google help, and haven't found anything useful. I want to exclude agencies, job sites, and get hits only for the business itself. While I"ve been partially successful, I still get over 26,000 results. This is the search string:
inurl:employment 610- OR 484- OR "reading, pa" OR "wyomissing, pa" -agency -temp -temporary.
The 610 and 484 is the area code, but since some businesses do not want phone calls, the phone# might not be listed, so I tried also using the city, state. problem is, I do not know how many "OR" commands google will accept (considering there are about 20 surrounding towns I would like to include). Using zip codes might, except I don't know how to do that. I also wish to include sites with the word "jobs" in the url, in addition to "employment". I need to reduce the number of results quite a bit, any ideas? thanks.

I am having a problem with google being redirected to random websites. I have tried multiple system restore points but my computer will not restore. I have also noticed my dvd/cd drive no longer works. If it helps I have seen errors with rundll.exe and others. My anti virus software was also disabled for a short while I am not sure if this was because of the viruses I have on my computer. Hi there. I've been trying to remove a persistent bit of malware or something that has hijacked my Google searches (and those on Ask.com as well, now). I keep getting redirected to a number of other commercial sites. I've run AVG, Ad Aware, Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, CCleaner, all to no avail. My main web browser is Opera 9.64.

I would really appreciate any help you can offer.

This seems to be going around a lot in the past few days.

I had some version of the AV suite last night, and removed it with Malawarebyte. Everything is running fine, and MBAM finds nothing when I do a full scan, but when I try to search with Google I get an "Error: Cache Access denied" page. If I try to go to Gmail I get a "This Connection is Untrusted" page. And when I try to search Google using the search bar that's in Firefox I get an odd looking page. If I do a search from the normal Google/Yahoo page I get results that redirect to random sites.

My OS is Vista 64bit, so I know some removal tools such as Combo Fix are not compatible. Is there any removal tools for 64-bit OS's? My DDS log is below, but I cannot run GMER with the options checked that are recommend. The "System" through "Libraries" check boxes are grayed out.

Any help would be very appreciated.

I'm having the exact same problem as this person/link. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic409515.html. Problem has been going on for a month now. I have windows XP. Happens on both IE 8 and FireFox. Does not happen in google Chrome. Even happens for a new/test user I setup, so it is not user specific. Happen on both yahoo and google, and probly more, but don't use other search engines. When you do a search, and click on a link in the search it will re direct you to advertisers or 'word look ups' or yellow pages, etc... Most of the time is uses find-fast-answers.com, amoung others. Did a scan today (7/14/2011) with the latest engine and defs with both malwarebytes and superantispyware in windows safe mode, and regular. Actually been scanning everything other day for the past month hopeing they would add this spyware to thier defs. Nothing out of the ordinary is in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows\currentversion\run or ...\windowsNT\Currentversion\Winlogon etc.. hosts file is fine, no proxy setting in browsers. I'm out of ideas. Administrators of the board, can you relay this information to the user of topic 409515. I beleive its the exact same problem. I'm suprised hijackthis, or malwarebytes or superantispyware didn't detect this.

A SEARCH-engine tool being developed in Sydney and picked up by internet giant Google will revolutionise the way people retrieve information from the net, its developers said. The advanced text-search algorithm, Orion, is being developed by University of NSW PhD student Ori Allon and his supervisor Dr Eric Martin. Orion will make searches much less time-consuming, by working with existing search engines and expanding on their function. Instead of finding pages on the net that contain keywords, then providing links, the new search engine will provide expanded text extracts which will eradicate the need to open every link.

Somewhere and somehow Ask seem to have staged a coup
Please someone, point me the way to return to Google and preferably remove Ask.
MalwareBytes has found nothing, Spybot found and removed some ads rubbish and though the computer runs smoothly again, Ask remains.

Answer:Google suited me as a search engine - Ask has taken over

Ask tends to come with Java updates unless you untick the box. It's a pain.

hi i want to create a webpage and then promote it (for free to start with) how do i do this for Google (i am quite interested in this so wouldn't mind later on going on a course if somebody could suggest a good one)

Answer:search engine optimisation google

Google will automatically find and index your site, you don't need to do anything for that to happen.
Before you start thinking about promoting your site you should spend time on developing it. Content is king when it comes to search engine success; you'll do even better in the rankings if your subject matter is unique, or at least uncommon. Populate your site with interesting content, and then encourage other sites to link in to you.
After you've done all that, make frequent changes in the text and image content, ensure that your site's navigation works perfectly, and you'll be on your way. Google knows a good site when it sees one.

Hello:

I seem to have the typical redirect problem a lot of people here have. I search for a term in Google, click on a result, and end up on some random site.

Ran Malwarebytes and a couple other malware tools, and though found some problems, did not fix the redirecing problem.

I've attached the DDS and GMER info below. The GMER results looked substantially longer than your example - wonder if that's a problem.
Thanks

Dear Sir/Madam
When I type in www.google.com I get this message

404 Error Page Not Found

A message from Server Admin: Some people have
reported arriving at our error page after typing in or
clicking a link to a major search engine. After
extensive research into the issue we have found that
one of our server I.P. addresses has been targeted by
a virus which you may have on your computer called
"QHosts". This virus was made several months before we
were allocated the server I.P. addresses we have now,
and therefore we have no control over it (much to our
dismay as it causes disruption to our servers on a
regular basis, however it is gradually diminishing.)
The Microsoft cumulative patch for this vulnerability
is available here.

We have provided our links page below which contains,
amongst other things, hyperlinks to some major
engines, routed thru our own server which is not
affected by the virus, so they work Ok. You are
welcome to use these links, if you want to, until your
own computer is working properly.

Please can you advise me what to do and whether my
computer has a virus. I have tried the patch to no avail!

Answer:Problem with Google search engine error 404,what do I do???

Its a clever bit of Adware thats installed itself on your PC, which re-routes your search to this page:
http://justtemplates.com/nfound.html

You need to download and run AdAware, which I believe currently fixes this one.

Hi, everyone. My computer has been afflicted with something that redirects search engines (Google, Bing, and Yahoo) in all three web browsers (Firefox, IE and Chrome) for about 10 days to 2 weeks now, though I am not sure when "it" actually got in. Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 let it through and can't find it, and updating to Kaspersky 2012 did't do anything either. Malwarebytes didn't stop it and can't find it, Hitman 3.5 didn't get it, and SuperAntiSpyware found a whole bunch of cookies and stuff the others didn't but couldn't fix the problem either. It may have exploited a Java weakness, because I was behind on Java updates; bad, I know. A curious detail that might mean something-for the last week linked pictures and linked vids have been failing to come through, but embedded pix and vid were ok. A new wrinkle this evening is that my web browser was/is just flat-out jamming and freezing the entire computer (no access to task manager, etc) after a few minutes of vanilla internet browsing. After four in a row I decided to restart in safe mode and bite the bullet by bringing my problem here. DDS, SuperAntiSpyware and Hijack This logs are below, DDS ATTACH is attached and I have run defogger, fwiw. Thanks in advance, E

I am an avid Google searcher. I usually enter queries that have a minimum of 4 to 6 words, quoted and non-quoted, and many of those searches are repeated. For example, when looking for specific literature or databases.

I have noticed that in the last two weeks (since November 1st 2007), Google cannot find simple queries that were easy to find previous to that date. I not only noticed it, but quantified it. I started testing Google day by day with a simple query, which was "Mahatma Gandhi"... Results showing websites containing the query decreased from 12,632,000, to 1,680,000 !!

I know that Google's algorithms rank their search results according to the number of visits to the website, number of matching keywords within, and stuff like that. But why are so many websites left out from Google's search results?

I usually do not use search engines other than Google, Yahoo, Ask, and Dogpile, and the only one I have tested on queries is Google, so I cannot tell whether this is a netwide phenomenon or it is only happening to the major and most visited one (Google)... I hope that this "minimalist" behavior is not following the typical trend products tend to suffer: as they become more famous, many little things may improve, but the core for what they were primarily designed, starts going down.

Hello,

After a couple weeks of wondering if something was wrong with Google, I did a search and found out that I likely have a Redirect Virus. The only problem I've had so far is being redirected. I've tried Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, HitManPro, and TDSSKiller, and none of them found anything. I'm not sure what to do next. Can anyone help?

Answer:Google/Search Engine Redirect Virus

Hello, is this XP.TDSS was updated today. Not sure when you ran it.Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.5.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.Click the Start Scan button.Do not use the computer during the scanIf the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.Let's run an online scan.ESET Online Scanner:Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. Hi

First time poster, long time lurker. I recently caught a nasty virus that I can't seem to get rid of. I used McAfee, MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware and they never catch it. They are all up-to-date and the latest version. I've tried everything I've read hear and nothing seems to be working for me. I would like to avoid restoring my whole system because I haven't backed up in a long time (call it laziness).

I've been searching online trying to fix this issue, but can't seem to find anything that will work. My search results on google are unwanted and seem altered.

For example, if I search for Target the first result on google is www.Target.com and once I click on it I'm redirected to some other search engine, advertisement or random eBay link. I usually have to press back and click on the link three times before getting to the correct website.

I have ran Adaware, Spybot , CWSredder and AVG Anti-virus, but nothing seems to detect it. I recently ran Spy Sweeper(the trial version that does not let you remove detected threats) and it is detecting something. Is there anything I can do before having to purchase this software that Iím afraid may not resolve my problem?

I'm new to the forum, so hopefully I've provided enough information. My main problemis the re-direct problem, but I have two others as well.

Main Problem:
When I search for something on yahoo/google/ any other search engine site, and click on the web-page off the search results page, I get re-directed to another site. Typically, but not always, if I hit the back button on the explorer page, it will take me to where I want to go. I also can't seem to connect to this site, nor Norton's site. The webpage is just blank. It doesn't matter if I type in the website address or try to do a search and connect through yahoo or one of the other search engines.

I've seen that I'm not the first person with this problem, but I wasn't sure if I should follow the advice given to them by the admins. I should also state that I'm not good with computers and usually don't know what I'm doing (hence, the hesitation to follow what they were told)

Problem # 2:
I also get this error that says that I have a windows system 32 error that appears needs to shut down my broweser and want to let Microsoft know about the problem. I've read that there's some fix for it off on microsoft's website- should I download that?

Problem # 3: My computer wants to keep installing these "new updates" but I have no idea what they are, nor if this is related, or just one of those lovely Microsoft updates that you have to install fro... Read more

Answer:Yahoo/Google/Any Search Engine re-direct

I would advise you to download all Microsoft Updates ASAP. If it is a little yellow shield with an "!" in the center that the box is coming from and says "Updates are available for your computer" when you hover over it with your mouse, then you can be pretty sure its from Microsoft. If you want to be deemed clean before installing the updates, that is fine with me.If you have a problem installing or running MBAM, rename the file to something such as mb.bat or something else with a .bat or .exe extension. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen click Finish.MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. On the Scanner tab:Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the ... Hi, I have followed everything in the "Please, Read This Before Posting A Hijackthis Log" thread and now, here is my problem.

Is there anything I can do before having to purchase this software that I?m afraid may not resolve my problem?

Here is my HijackThis log and results from Spy Sweeper :

This is really strange... At least since yesterday, or maybe since two days ago, I'm having the odd issue that in essence my internet often does not work if I try to use google. I use FF, and as you know, there's that search bar in the top right corner of the window, and there's a drop down menu on the left that allows you to choose search engine. I just experienced the problem right now: I had it set to google, and I typed in a search, and the browser did not go anywhere. I was just seeing the loading bar in bottom right corner sitting on empty with no progress being made. I switched it to bing, hit enter again, and it instantly showed up the results. This is all despite the fact that gmail works, and other google services appear to be just fine, too. Then several minutes later the issue seemed to randomly disappear, because I tried googling again after bing-ing for a bit, and now it's working again. So it appears to be on and off now, but it was much worse last night. It never worked, and I just used bing. Has anyone else experienced this??

Answer:Is anyone else experiencing google search engine not working?

I've had problems at random times this past week just searching at Google.com. The URL would change a little after initiating the search, but absolutely nothing would happen, like with you.

It only happened once or twice a day, and it hasn't happened yet today. Perhaps whatever it was is fixed now.

Hey Guys
I need your help

I want to determine by registry/policy, that Google is set as Default. I already saw some questions about this here and there, but i tried these settings as recommended, with no success.

So here is what I've done:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{0633EE93-D776-472f-A0FF-E1416B8B2E3A}\

?URL?=?http://www.google.com.au/search?q={searchTerms}&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:{language}:{referrer:source}&ie={inputEncoding?}&oe={outputEncoding?}?

?DisplayName?=?Google?

"(Default)"="Google"

I overwrite all of the Default given Bing Properties and I didnt create a new key or deleted one.

Where is my Problem?

I still get Bing as Search Engine.

Cheers

I am a computer novice, so I won't be able to follow very complicated instructions on how to fix my computer. When I click on a link generated by a search engine, it takes me to some other stupid site for low mortgage rates or b00kmarks.com . I followed the directions of a tutorial I found on bleepingcomputer.com to resolve the problem. It seemed to work, but then when I shut my computer down and turned it back on later, the problem was back. Now it only happens every other click or when I click on a link I have never used before. I think I got this is because I stupidly downloaded a keygen for Adobe Creative Suite a few weeks ago, which I didn't end up using, but this problem only started 2 days ago! Please please help me!

A while back I got the Internet Security 2010 which was easy enough to get rid of, but this redirecting is getting slightly annoying. It's the same thing I read on many forums problem wise, but I can never get a solution. When I click on the links after searching on google it redirects me to sites for a short time then to what looks like a legit site like Yahoo or Yellowpages. I can always get to the page I want it's just sometimes it redirects me and I just don't know if it's serious or not. Solutions I have tried:Multiple Scanners or cleaners(Hitman/Avast/MBAM usually will have atapi.sys. Not sure if that's the problem though.) CCleaner also used.Finding and deleting certain malicious bogus files, but could not find any (ex. sysaudio, wdmaud, tdss)Checking the host file for extra IPsSystemOnly thing I haven't tried that seems to work is Combofix and Goored (I think that's what it is called) and the reason for that is because Goored is just something I've really never heard of until today. As for Combofix, I'm just not that tech savvy.I'm running Windows XP with SP2Thanks in advance for any kind of help.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
