Remove corrupted install of Windows Live Essentials from Windows 8.1

Question: Remove corrupted install of Windows Live Essentials from Windows 8.1

Hello

please can you help me?

I run Windows 8.1 and have installed Windows Live Essentials but the install seemed corrupted as I couldn't open the program. The error said that wldlog.dll, wldcore.dll, uxctl.dll were missing. I installed them back using Dll-Files Fixer but the program still didin't work.

I then tried to uninstall Windows Live Essentials with Revo Uninstaller but it said some files are missing. I tried forced uninstall but it failed too, it said some files are missing but didn't say which ones.

If I try opening Windows Live Mail it gives an error, it cannot find an entry point to msmail.dll

I want to completely remove Windows Live Essentials so that I can try a clean re installation but I cannot manage, I think some files are either missing or corrupted and whatever I try fails.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Isabella

Preferred Solution: Remove corrupted install of Windows Live Essentials from Windows 8.1

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Remove corrupted install of Windows Live Essentials from Windows 8.1

Hi,

You could simply do a system restore to a point prior to installing Windows Live Essentials. Then try a complete fresh download and installation...

Recently I installed an update for Windows Live Essentials 2011 (KB2434419), which came with a 'new look' version of Hotmail - Windows Live Mail 2011.

Since then I've had nothing but annoying issues with Hotmail, and it's settings and configurations. Issues which at times have caused parts of it to close down, and which have also created merry hell with the text of the emails.

First of all was this crazy warning message, which appeared each time I opened my Hotmail account:

A check of Problems Reports and Solutions showed that I was experiencing a major difficulty - an APPCRASH with Hotmail, but I didn't have a clue about how to fix it. This is the View of the Problem Details;

After considering the problem and the impasse that I was faced with, I decided to do the following in an attempt to create a 'workaround' of the problem, and to hopefully resolve the issues I was having;

1. I did a System Restore, back to the Restore Point immediately before I had downloaded and installed the latest Windows Updates, including KB2434419 - Update for Windows Live Essentials 2011, of which Windows Live Mail [Hotmail] is only one part.

2. After the Restore Point had been confirmed and my Laptop restarted [Rebooted] I then confirmed with a search of Windows Update, that KB2434419 was ready to reinstall to the Laptop. The Update for Windows Live Mail [Hotmail] was successfully reinstalled.

This method seems to have fixed the APPCRASH issues described above, because the Hot... Read more

Answer:Latest Windows Live Essentials 2011 Update [KB2434419] has corrupted Hotmail accounts

I've downloaded the full Windows Live Essentials 2011 and Windows Live Mail is a totally separate application from my Hotmail account (at least it is for me). Although my Hotlook account looks a little different, it is essentially the same as it has always been with a few more options (when accessed through the Bing Toolbar which is how I do it). It does NOT open Windows Live Mail 2011. It goes instead to my online Hotline account which is perfectly fine.

Were you previously using a prior version of Windows Live Mail or Windows Mail as the client for your Hotmail account instead of just using the direct online version? Have you tried going to the online version of Hotmail and checking if things are mucked up there or if that's only in Windows Live Mail? I suspect the problem is with Windows Live Mail and not with Hotmail.

I hope this helps. Let me know, and we'll see what we can come up with to fix the problem. Maybe you should consider uninstalling the update and see if that fixes the problem (unless you think that cured the larger problem). In either case, then maybe the best thing to do would be to seek help in the Windows Live Mail Forums where they know a lot more about it than we do.

Good luck!

Good day,

I just can't reinstall windows live messenger 2008 (8.5version) after uninstalling windows live messenger essentials (2009 beta).

Although the uninstallation went smoothly, but I still get a message that it is still in the system.
I tried a lot of solutions, including ZapMessenger which is supposed to clean it completely from the computer, but it didn't
Should it be removed from the registry manually? But I think there are hundreds of keys and clsids....so I don't think it's a practical solution.

Awaiting your reply...

Hi everyone!I have this frustrating problem with an installation of Windows Live Essentials on a Windows 7 (64bit) machine. I previously had Windows Live Messenger and Mail installed, but then installed Microsoft Office Outlook to replace Windows Live Mail. I attempted to uninstall Windows Live Essentials to no avail. I think messed around it and have tried ever so many registry tweaks, cleaners and scripts to try and remove all traces of the Essentials suite. It seems completely uninstalled (even now I can see no sign of any Windows Live product). On reinstalling Windows Live Essentials, I now get an error which is highly frustrating:I have tried the fixes for similiar errors but yet again to no avail. I appreciate any answers ThanksJay

Here's the latest in a long series of unsolvable problems where Windows Essentials 2012 can not be installed.

The repeated error message - error 0x80040609 - source WLX suite

Installation stops when installing Messenger. There are no previous Messenger installations on the computer.

The computer is running 64 bit Windows 7 . Windows was freshly installed on the computer a few months ago with no problem.

To save the time of asking me to take steps that will not work:

Windows firewall is turned on.

I've downloaded and tried running the offline standalone installer.

I'm running current DirectX.

All Windows Live directories and files have been removed. Uninstall advice does not work because the programs were never installed in the first place

I've downloaded the installation fail fixit and run it.

I've run Windows update.

I've found and zipped the installation log file but so far there's no place to send it.

There are no viruses or malware

Windows Media Player already is installed.

I've run msiexec /unreg
msiexec /regserver

The Windows Installer service is running.

Answer:Cannot install Windows Live Essentials 2012

While waiting for anyone to respond to the original message, here are two other alleged solutions that did not work.

Ran MSCONFIG and set it for only start up services. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

Ran CCleaner twice. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

I started Revo Uninstaller. Windows Essentials 2012 does not exist in the add/remove programs list.
I checked Control Panel. Windows Essentials 2012 does not exist in the add/remove programs list.

I've used Regedit to remove all reference to Windows Live. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

Still no solutions and no responses.

Hi all,

Just have a quick question about installing Live Essentials 2011. I've tried and got the error message: Couldn't Install Program - You already have different build flavor of Live

So I need to uninstall my current version. But I want to be sure I won't lose everything (emails, contacts) I now have in Windows Live Mail. A new install will simply transfer everything into the 2011 version?

And I can deselect Messenger during install? I hate Messenger...

Thanks,
Tuck

Answer:Windows Live Essentials Install Question

E-mails and contacts should remain on your online mail account servers; as long as you don't have them set to delete the mail there after downloading, which I don't think anybody does anymore since e-mail account space allocation is usually very generous. You'll probably have to download/import them again to the new version of the client.
After uninstalling the Messenger, yes, indicate you want to choose which components of Live you want to download and leave Messenger off the list.

I see this Windows Live Essentials 2011 is listed as an important update. It goes on to list all the things it will do including the bing bar.

I do not want a bing bar and I am wondering if I want any of the stuff listed for the Windows Live Essentials 2011.

Is three a good reason to install this update and if it is installed is it easy to remove bing and any other thinks I do not require like silverlight?

Answer:should I install Windows Live Essentials 2011

I spoke to Microsoft Canada on this issue and they state that if I have security essential installed i do not require installation of Windows Live Essentials 2011.

Hey guys, been a while hey?

Just recently did a re-format, and have come along a momentum-stopping problem..

I have the standalone installer for Windows Live Essentials 2011, and only want to install Mail & Photo/Movie Maker.

Mail installed without a hitch, but Photo gallery/movie maker refuses to install, giving the following error:

Code:
"It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working"
Error: 0x80070643
Source: PhotoGallery
I can't find anything on the particular source, but alot of 0x80070643 errors, and all different solutions/different applications.

Tried a few of them to no success..

I don't get it. Twice i've tried to install windows live essentials, and both times is says that it succeeded. However, when i go to my start menu, there is no entry for Windows Live essentials, its not in "Program files" OR "Program Files(x86)" and its not even listed in "Program features". Its basically non-existent on my machine. all i wanted was to install movie maker. I open the installer, select the photo viewer/Movie Maker package, and click install. Then after a two minute wait, it tells me the install was successful and for me to click the close button to start using live essentials. I'm stumped! I only have one partition on my HDD, and the files are not there, so that rules out the files being my hard disk. And they were not installed on my flash drive. So does anyone what happened or where the files went?

With little that I know, this information may be totally irrelevent.
Just an information that you may or may not know ....You need to have SP2 installed plus .....

Excerpt :
All of the Windows Live Essentials programs will run only on Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit editions), Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit editions) with Service Pack 2 (SP2) and the Platform Update for Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2008 with SP2 and the Platform Update for Windows Server 2008.

The other day I tried to install Windows Live Essentials on a fairly new installation of Windows 7 Proffesional 32bit. The installation came up with a message half way through saying it had failed but I wasn't in a rush to use any of the applications so just clicked out of it.

Today I went back to install them again but Windows Live Essentials installer says that all the apps are already installed. I have checked in Program Files and through out the start menu and they aren't installed. The uninstaller program isn't there either and the entry in add/remove programs in Control Panel doesn't exist.

I'm guessing the installer put in some registry entries for the programs but didn't get round to putting in a way to remove them. Does anyone have any other ideas or know which registry entries to start hacking away at (figure of speach obviously)?

I don't really want to do a system restore because I've installed about 10 other programs since then including my antivirus which is a pain to reactivate.

Hey Oli,

Do you have this file-> C:\Program Files\Windows Live\installer\wlarp.exe? if yes, double click on it, it'll ask you to repair or uninstall.

Otherwise I guess you'll need to use revo in hunter mode.

Also, try running the MS windows installer cleanup utility.

Hello,
I'm using Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate edition, and every app I installed is working. But when I go to the Windows Live website, I can't download windows live essentials! When I click on "Download now" browser just keeps loading and loading but nothing happens. Tried with Chrome and IE, and I got same result.
Then, I got an idea - I have copied wlsetup-web.exe file from my laptop to the USB flash memory, and then tried installing. File runs, but I can't get farther than "Prepairing the installation" because I got some error which say that I'm not connected to the Internet, although I am.

Anyone have this problem?

I was having problems with Windows Live Mail in Windows 7 so I deleted the Windows Live Essentials from the computer. I subsequently could not reinstall. After much effort I gave up and upgraded to Windows 10 where all programs appear to work except that once again I cannot install Windows Live Essentials. I have turn ON the Windows Firewall and removed all Windows Live folders from my computer. The program gives the error message "It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working." Error message 0x80040609. In addition to turning Firewall on, I disabled Norton temporarily but the program gave the same message. Any idea what programs might be interfering or how I could get the program installed? I downloaded Windows Live Essentials for the messenger but now I would like to unistall it. I went to Uninstall/Change Programs in my control panel to uninstall it and I noticed a program called Windows Live Mesh activex control for remote connections. What is that for? and can I uninstall that as well? My dilemma here is that I cannot seem to uninstall Windows Live Essentiials. I double clicked on it in the Uninstall/Change Programs list and and was given a window that gave me the options:
1)remove one or more Windows Live Programs
2)Repair all Windows Live Programs

I clicked on the first option but it never let me choose which programs to uninstall. It just quickly flashed a window that said "uninstalling" and then it showed me "Done! Your programs you selected have been uninstalled." I didn't get to select anything to uninstall though. In the end, Windows Live essential is still installed and I can't get rid of it.

Any suggestions guys?

Answer:Uninstalling Windows Live Essentials and windows live mesh activex control for remote connections

Someone else will have to advise you regarding Windows Live Mesh. I know nothing about that. For Windows Live Essentials: If you cannot remove WLE using add remove programs try Revo Uninstaller. If I remember correctly it will not ask which components you want to remove. Here is how to use Revo Uninstaller: 1) First we download it from here: Revo Uninstaller Free Version. Scroll down the page for the free version download. You can skip this Step if you already have it installed. However, you may need to update it. If you have it installed already, and you need to update it, go ahead and open it up and click the AutoUpdate Icon next to Help. The use of this program makes registry changes based upon what you select for removal from the Registry. Before running Revo Uninstaller please run ERUNT before proceeding to back up your registry in case you make a mistake. 2) Select the Program to remove from the list of programs and click the Uninstall button: 3) After selecting the program you want to remove, and confirming you want to uninstall the program, then you will want to select the Advanced Option: 4) Click Next. This will start the uninstaller for the application you picked. When the uninstaller is done, and it proves to be successful, and a reboot is required, then select NO and continue the below steps. 5) Follow the prompts during the uninstallation of the application. Once it closes you will be at this window: 6) Click Next again. Once the window is do... Read more

I kind of left it alone for a while and since then want to install Windows XP Pro. I tried to insert the Pro cd, but it wouldn't continue installation since it prepared installation from the Home cd. I've created boot disks with fdisk and format in order to just wipe the drives. However, the computer will not open the disk. I hear that it reads it but then doesn't load anything. I've used this same kind of disk for another PC and it works fine. I know the floppy drive on this pc works because when I tried to install Raid drivers previously, it read it.

I just want to remove the Win XP Home install so I can use my other Win XP Pro to install. Thanks!

I was reading the threads about MS Silverlight.

Finishing up the How to Protect Yourself from Malware! Sticky, I have everything on my computer up-to-date and working well. I had gone to Microsoft Update and accepted most of the available updates. I just went from IE6 to IE7; I am holding off on IE8, the only high priority update I have not accepted. Of optional software updates, what?s left are Silverlight, MS Office Live Add-in, and MS Windows Live Essentials.

I gather that Microsoft would like Silverlight to be a competitor to Adobe Flash. However, I have never knowingly come across a website that required Silverlight for viewing until just recently. I came across a Mark Russinovich video on security that indicated Silverlight was needed. Perhaps I could have viewed it anyway (?) but, because I had not installed Silverlight, I passed. Is anyone finding much need for it?

Regarding the two Live items, I don?t see much need for them at this point. I?d just as soon keep all my files on my computer. Is anyone using these Live services and why?

Answer:MS Silverlight, Office Live Add-in, and Windows Live Essentials

You are right to not get those "updates".

I have only ever came across one site that needed silverlight and it was the ITV-Player so i didnt watch the vid

The whole "live" thing is crapware to me.

Hi

Having upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 64 bit, I have discovered that I have limited control of my options, in Windows Live Mail (Essentials 2012 version)!

Prior to the upgrade, and with the 2011 version of WLM, I was able, through the Options facility to select certain actions, such as:

"Send/Receive on Start up!
and
Delete messages from the deleted folder on close down!

The Options Tab, which allowed these choices, was on the tool bar, at the top of the window, just below, and just to the left of the Close Window X!

This facility does not appear on the current 2012 version!

I would appreciate any advice on this matter

At the moment, I have to manually select Send/Receive, and manually delete old messages

Answer:Management of Windows Live Mail - Windows Essentials 2012

Hi Theo, When first installing W8 I noticed the 'Tile' for Windows Live Mail in 'all apps'. Didn't take much notice as don't use Live Mail which in W7 & W8 was an integral part of Messenger. However to use Messenger you had to create a Live Mail/Hotmail a/c.
Well having become more settled with what I need in W8 I thought I'd have a look at the 'Windows Live Mail' and so pinned the tile to Start & Desktop. I just opened it today and found it has the new UI of the Ribbon Type which makes it very flexible and perhaps more attractive to future use by me. I also noticed it had the 'Options' you require, which you will find on the Toolbar when you create a new message. Hope this helps.

This is probably a naive question, so apologies in advance.

I am being offered the optional update "Windows Live Essentials" and I see that "Mail" is included. I am aware that it enables one to "get multiple email accounts in one program" (quoting from the Microsoft blurb.) So, I was just wondering, would I still be able to use Windows Mail (in Vista) or would it become "Live Mail?" ....

Have others here downloaded the whole kit and kaboodle included in "Essentials" I'd be interested in your general opinions of it, if you don't mind sharing please.

Thanks very much for reading

Hello everyone...
Love you, hope you can help me,
I have been using Windows Live Essentials for a long time, until i started to have issues with it (many of them), so i have moved on to alternative software. (For e-mails i use strictly IncrediMail now, happy with it).
One of the issues was with Family Safety app - i installed it, used it, moved on to Norton Parental Control, the problem is every time i removed Family safety from my live account it kept coming back (just like in old horror movies), instead of Jason X i got Family Safety X, how bout Family Safety VS Norton Parental Control for a nice horror flick?
So i had to msconfig and just disable it there 9 not really a solution)
My major issue is that i can not uninstall Windows Live Essentials, and i have tried everything. Could not do it from control panel add remove programs, could not do it with the original install file, there is just no such option.

What should i do, i really want to get rid of it.

Thanks a lot in advance...

Has anybody had issues installing Windows Live Essentials?

I've already tried the online version that downloads only the utilities requested, and the full 134MB download version, but only "Writer" and "Silverlight" will install onto Windows 7 BETA x64.

What's up with that?

hi people I know you guys are pretty damn good and very helpful but i just want to clear some things up with live essentials..

1. I have uninstalled live essential and it has taken out messenger that i use everyday..

2. Is there a standalone messenger version for 2010 or 2011 and where can i download it from. Without the essential package

When thinking about it will i still get that shitty essential package again with a standalone version of msn messenger, reason why i'm saying this is because a friend of mine recently installed msn messenger and he got the essential package and what annoys me is why is microsoft bundling programs together...

thanks guys for any help

Answer:Windows Live Essentials

You can try Microsoft Fixit. Start HERE:Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled Click Run Now/RunAfter accepting there will be a very quick scan. When that is finsihed choose Detect problems and let me select the fixes to apply. You will be presented with 2 options: Installing and Uninstalling. Make your choice. Scroll to the list and choose Windows Live Essentials and follow the steps which will guide you through the process. Hopefully this will work.

Does anyone know if Microsoft is going to replace Windows Live Essentials as I heard on a cnet message forum administrator that Microsoft will no longer offer that suite or programs?

I used to use Windows Live Writer to blog but I needed more features, especially with uploading a set of pictures to a gallery in a post as if it were being uploaded to WordPress' gallery themselves.

Windows Live Mail and Live Writer have been awesome and since Windows Live Messenger was replaced by Skype, is it possible for Microsoft to replace Live Writer, Live Mail and other Live products?

Answer:Windows Live Essentials

I heard a while back that MS was dropping the "Live" branding on their products and I think they were re branding a lot of stuff with the "MSN" brand. Time will tell.

I would like to remove this mishmash of crap from my computer, but not being overly savvy about the thing, what are the pitfalls I might encounter? Will the package just be removed without affecting something essential in my machine? I assume my Hotmail account, being web mail, will remain accessible. Not at all sure about the IM, but I'm thinking about going to AIM on that anyhow. Windows 7.My add/remove programs has but one reference to windows live, called "Windows Live Essentials." That's the one I'm contemplating removing. Thanks in advance for any info.

I disagree with your opinion of Windows Live Essentials but, yes, you can remove it without doing any harm to your computer.

I am trying to uninstall Windows Live Essentials. I have tried to uninstall it through the control panel but that doesn't work. Windows live mail crashes every time I try to open an email with an attachment that can only be opened by windows live mail. So I figured that if I could remove the entire suite of windows live essentials and then reinstall it I could fix the problem. Other than using a big hammer I wonder how I can ever remove windows live essentials. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I wanted to download Windows Live Essentials. Although I have disabled firewall and all the antiviruses. Yet I get this message. How do I successfully download?

Answer:Downloading Windows Live Essentials

Hello rin,

First off, you should only ever have a single antivirus software as multiple antiviruses will get in the way of each other and cause havook in your system. in addition, if you were to uninstall any of them, you would need to use a special uninstaller tool, usually given out for free by the same company who makes the antivirus software.

There are various security softwares that you can use in additon to an antivirus, but only ever have a single antivirus at any one time.

Now, are you able to connect to the internet without any problems? Can you restart the computer and try again?

How wonderful it is to have Windows Live Mail 2009 back on my W7 64 Bit Home Premium PC! I thought I was stuck with WLE 2012 but a friend of mind who is way more savvy about Windows than I am was able to remove all of WLE 2012 then install WLE 2009.

Why does M$ have to add so many bells and whistles to an email program that was perfect to begin with?  You could insert an email without work-around, right click a .jpg, sendto and not end-up with your image stored away in a skydrive etc.
A question to all of you who did not upgrade to WLE 2012.  Did you go back to 2009 because of your dislike for Skydrive or was it the ability to right click, sendto on your images?  Perhaps the very busy Toolbar in version 2012 turned you way -
it did me.

How can I do this completely?
I ask because I have uninstalled the programme via the Control Panel but when I try to reinstall I am getting various errors , some of which refer to updating the junk filter which is in the Windows Live Mail.
I imagine that with a clean uninstall that this error would not appear .
But would a 100% clean uninstall mean the loss of all my emails?

thanks

If you don't want the junk filter, stop using Email & revert to writing letters.

I get a pop up that says that I have updates to install. One is Windows Live Essentials 2011. When I try to download it, I get a msg that says: " Couldn't install programs. You already have different build flavor of Windows Live." Then under help I get " \If you want to install this version, first uninstall the version on your computer." I checked and Windows Live Essentials 2011 KB2434419 is listed several times as follows: Failed 10/21, successful 10/21, successful 10/27, successful 10/28. The pop up also has Error: 0x80280008.

If Live is already installed, why do I get an update notice? Do I need to uninstall all the other downloads? I have a folder Windows Live but no sub-folder or other folder that shows Live Essentials. Windows Live shows 30 updates over the last month or so. Do I need to uninstall the Windows Live Program. I have an uninstall program, Revo Uninstaller, that shows a Windows Live Essentials Program. Should I uninstall it? Basically, how many of these should I uninstall? Or how can I get the notice to download to stop appearing?

Thanks!

Having so much trouble with this at a loss how to solve it.
Have live mail but it doesn't work. There are so many problems don't know where to start. Basically the problem is that it will not send or receive mail. Every time it is tried get a Logon (server needs this info) window that asks for username (which is, it seems, only partially filled in. Ends at where the @ would appear ) Put down the password but the same logon window keeps reappearing. Don't know if any explanations will help. Need a tech to get into it to see if there is anything wrong but remote access is worrisome.

I usually use Skype, but sometimes I use Windows Live Messenger. One day, I saw a newer version of this program, so here's what I did:
1) I downloaded the newest version
2) Installed.
When I was installing it, it deleted the old version. When I was installing the new version it installed in about 0.000000001 second. I was like: WT* . But when I click Close, nothing opens (The installation said, that if I click close, it will open). Then I opened Start --> Clicked All Programs --> Searched for a folder named Windows Live or something --> Found it --> Empty.

What should I do?

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Which site did you download the updated version from?

Was it a genuine Microsoft site?

Something certainly doesn't sound right so I'd be inclined to run an anti-virus scan, and then use Microsoft's system restore to a point in time before you downloaded the update.

Malwarebytes is pretty good for this job.

Hello Seven Forums,

I started out with Win7Pro that just had Windows Live Mail. Then came along Windows Live Mail Essentials 2011 which reported to the greatest thing since the wheel. However I really do not like the program, especialy the NAG to long into Windows Live using my ID etc. I have not been able to remove that NAG so I want to remove the essentials part but KEEP the garden variety of Windows Live Mail. 6 moths ago I did this but it removed windows live mail so had to download it from Microsoft and re-install it, so I would like a better uninstall so as to keep windows live Mail only. Can anyone suggest a simple way to do that. I have exported what messages I want to keep along with my address book.

I would appreciate any help with this. I have another question but is unrelated so will post another message for that question.

Windows seven forum has been a great help to me in the past, thanks to all.

You download Windows Live Mail as a single application here: Windows Live Mail 2011

It'll download the installer first then you just need to click "Choose the programs you want to install", and then deselect the apps you don't want.

I'm guessing you have a Microsoft Hotmail or Outlook.com account as well? In which case close Live Mail and try logging into Windows Live: https://profile.live.com/ and on the left side click the 'manage' link - you should see Facebook listed as a connection - click the 'edit' button and select 'remove this connection completely' Click 'ok' and log out. Turns out this problem was caused by corrupt System Files which Windows couldn't, or wouldn't, fix.

Hi...
I'm relatively new to Win 7 Home Premium (64-bit) and have just discovered it doesn't include Windows Movie Maker which was on XP.
However, I noticed online Windows Movie Maker 2.6 is supposed to work with the above.
It downloaded fine but when I went into 'All Programs' and clicked on Windows Movie Maker, nothing happened.
I noticed also the icon next to it was a blank one and not a 'Windows' one.
Checking Add/Remove (I actually use Revo) the program was definitely installed.
Nevertheless, I uninstalled then reinstalled. No joy. I then uninstalled it completely.
I then noticed Windows Live Essentials contains the Movie Maker.
I selected only the 'Photo & Movie Maker' from the list and downloaded.
However, the same thing happened as with Windows Movie Maker 2.6. Also, same blank icon.
I must be missing something simple here.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks

Answer:Windows Live Essentials - not working?

Hello kwil

I have movie maker 2.6 installed and running fine here (same OS) and have the live essentials version also, what is strange is your having problems with other newly installed programs also. Where did you get the download from - Download: Windows Movie Maker 2.6 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
Any other recent problems installing programs.
Maybe a quick SFC scan and malware scan also for starters - SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

FIX :

This is the fix thanks to: tagen

This is what I did:

1.) Installed: Everything Everything Search Engine

2.) Searched for these with Find Everything and uninstalled all of them.

Writer.msi
Mail.msi
MailLang.msi
Companion.mui.msi
MeshRuntime.msi
WindowsLiveSync.msi
MeshRuntime.msi

3.) Then what I did was run Windows Update and installed Windows Live Essentials 2011 rebooted.

Then I got the Installer back in Program/Features and ran it and Repaired it. Everything is running fine now.

I decided to update Movie Maker etc. to the 2011 versions offered by Windows Update. I see hardly any difference in Movie Maker features but the most annoying thing is that Microsoft have deemed it necessary to sign into Windows Live just to upload a video to YouTube from within Movie Maker. They also have a Windows Live ID Service and Windows Live ID Service Monitor running in the background.

Another thing I noticed before even updating to 2011 version is that if you use Windows Live Photo Gallery to edit a photo Microsoft is assigning an ID number to the properties of the file.

I also saw a video yesterday of Balmer proclaiming that we all want "The Cloud" and that they have enough talent to ensure our privacy. Like fuck, they can't even make IE secure so there is no way they can make cloud computing secure.

I need Live ID for some games but no fucking way do I want it running all the time and integrated into any other programs I use. What douchebags.

It should be noted that Windows Live Essentials 2012 removes Windows Live Mesh as we knew it in Windows Live Essentials 2011. Instead of remote desktop operations (2011) it's now like Dropbox or other cloud servers, but they don't warn you that whatever you already have on the cloud will be downloaded to your computer again filling your hard drive. I was wondering why my SSD kept filling when I wasn't adding any content.

However, when I try I can't bring up the windows which would enable me to do so. Answer:Windows Live Essentials and Silverlight

If these are coming up through Windows Update, you need to update Silverlight (a browser plugin), but installing Windows Live Essentials is optional. You can right-click and "Hide update" if you don't want a particular update to show up again.Live Essentials has some decent software in it, but if you don't want it, feel free to decline it.Silverlight should stay up to date, however, so let that one install.

Is this 64-bit XP? If it's 32-bit, you need SP3.

Hello, today i encountered a problem with my msn acccount. i couldnt sign in earlier in the day and found out that it was a client problem not the server problem. so i reinstalled windows live messenger a few times, deleted the contactlog.txt and cache. then i decided to install Windows Live Essentials Beta and see if it works, sadly no. I tried to uninstall it but i couldnt, so i used ZapMessenger. the program is gone BUT it is still under the add and remove programs list and i cant install the normal version of msn or even the beta. I also cant even uninstall it in the add and remove programs. Please help me ! ><

Edit: i also just found that i cant log in using Pidgin( another IM messenger) i can only log in using Ebuddy.com and some1 else's computer.

Answer:Windows Live Essentials problem.

Have you tried doing a system restore to before you installed the Live Essentials Beta? Before we get your chat working again, I'd like to get WLE beta off of your computer. We also need to report the problem of it not uninstalling correctly to Microsoft so they know to fix the issue before they release it as a stable program, and thousands of others end up with the same problem.

Hello! I downloaded Windows Essentials 2011 ( it came in as a Windows Update) it got installed. Nothing but problems..missing components in Messenger, Continually reconnecting..When reconnecting causes Windows hardware fail sound ( device failed to connect sound). I tried to repair..did not work. Tried to restore mky computer to earlier date.."failed to restore message" Uninstalled several times. reinstalled continues to have missing components and continues to show the message that MSG is trying to reconnect with the windows sound alert........I contacted Microsoft and they suggested I install Windows live 2011/security ( which is an anti virus..I have AVG 9. on my computer. So when I went to download Microsoft it said I should uninstall AVG. So I contacted AVG for help and they had me send them some files. They said they could fix the problem. Well I haven't heard from them since Thursday and it is now Sunday. I have sent several emails and no response. Not even there auto reply! So I need help . I must have some kind of virus. ( or something). I did look on the internet and it looks like other people are having trouble with Windows Live 2011 also. But couldn't find any help. Thanks to anyone that can help......

Answer:Windows Live Essentials 2011

The correct way to remove AVG 2011 is through its program folder via Start > All Programs or by using Add/Remove Programs / Programs and Features in Vista/Windows 7.If for some reason the AVG uninstall failed using the normal method of Add/Remove, download and run the latest AVG installation file as described here. As noted on that page, do not use the AVG Removal tool which is intended for versions prior to 2011. When the AVG Installer windows appears choose the option to Remove and click Continue to allow the AVG 2011 uninstaller to run. Restart the computer when done.As a last resort you can use the uninstall/cleanup utility (AVG Remover) provided in AVG 2011+9.0+8.x Uninstall/Re-Install Instructions. After restarting and removing the folders, stop where instructed to Stop here if not re-installing.AVG Remover eliminates all the parts of your AVG installation from your computer, including registry items, installation files, user files, etc. AVG Remover is the last option to be used in case the AVG uninstall / repair installation process has failed repeatedly.AVG Download Tools: AVG RemoverIMPORTANT NOTE: Before removing your existing anti-virus, you should download and save the setup file for the anti-virus you are going to replace it with. After doing that, disconnect from the Internet, uninstall your current anti-virus, reboot and then install the replacement. Reboot again to ensure it is working properly before reconnecting to the Internet.

I just received notification from the automatic update service that Windows wants to install a 156MB Windows Live Essentials update. 156 megs! Except for Security Essentials I use none of the programs involved in this update. Can someone please tell me why I NEED to install this update. I'm not familiar enough with Win 7 just to dismiss it, but I'm not inclined to install this massive update. Any opinions from Windows 7 experts?

Answer:Windows Live Essentials Update

If you have any previous versions of Windows Live essentials installed the Windows will want to update it. As it's optional you don't need to install it if you don't want to. The size is the estimated size once ALL items have been installed.

You can, however, choose only to install certain parts if you wish once you download and run the installer

Looking for a direct link to a windows live installation that is direct and offline?

Links would be appreciated, I cant seem to find any thanks...

Answer:Windows live essentials Offline...

Here you go: Essentials - Windows Live

That is pretty much a direct link.

Not sure what you mean by an offline link though. Are you looking for a source other than Microsoft's site?

I just downloaded and installed Windows Live Essentials 2011. When I tried to watch a movie I have in my media library through my WDLive TV device it would not let me login to network shares. After some investigating I uninstalled Windows Live Essentials 2011 completely and was again able to log into network shares on my WDtv Live.

Evidently there is a problem between WDTV Live and Windows Live Sign in Assistant in Windows Essentials Live 2011 and it blocks access through my WDTV. I could not find any way to just uninstall the sign in assitant so have totally uninstalled Windows Live Essentials for now. Anyone else having this issue and has anyone found a workaround instead of a total uninstall of Windows Live Essentials 2011?

Answer:Windows Live Essentials 2011

Hey there,

I'm having the exact same issue. I don't know how to uninstall just the Sign-in Assistant from Live Essentials 2011 either. Grrr... I shouldn't have upgraded that this morning. ;p

Check this:
WDTV Live + Windows 7 "Invalid Username and Passwo... - Western Digital Community

It's definitely an issue with the Sign-in Assistant, though I don't know whose fault it is. :\

I know there has been discussion on this before but I am confused. I downloaded the update some time ago and got messages in Window Live Mail that I was not authorised and had tried too many times to log on so my account was blocked! I could get into Live Mail but my Contacts were not available any more. Fed up, I restored my computer to an earlier time.
I want to resize photos so, on advice I found, I did a selective update of Windows Live Essentials for just the Photo Program. However, the whole update installed itself and the Live Mail was defective again. I'm now back to a new restore point but still want the Photo Program. I am running AVG Anti-Virus protection.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Alan

Answer:Windows Live Essentials 2011

Go to the Start orb and in the search type in appwiz.cpl and hit enter. Choose to Change the Live Essentials and choose to just uninstall Live Mail and leave everything else. If that doesn't work uninstall all of Essentials, and then reinstall it, but this time in the What to Install Window uncheck Live Mail part of the program.

My mother in law got a new computer with windows 7 and windows live essentials. She has windows live email. She cannot send or receive email and the password box keeps coming up asking for her account name and password which she cannot remember.

Can windows live essentials be removed from the computer and be reinstalled and clear this up? She is 80 years old so I am trying to correct this for her. I know tech guy frowns on helping recover passwords so I am not asking for that. I was just wondering if removing the program and reinstalling would let her start over again? Thank you for your help.

Does anyone have a recipe for a 100% removal of the programme?Every single file and folder and maybe everyt registry key too.Or is a format of my C-drive the only way that I am going to be able to recover my emails that have disappeared with the malfunctioning of this program?I need to eradicate all traces of this program but it is hard to find a way to do it .

Answer:uninstalling windows live mail and essentials

You can't recover emails by removing the program you used with them. You can remove it by using Control Pane l/ Add Remove Programs. If your email was with your local ISP, you could call them and have them resend them. They usually keep them on the server for 30 days.

Windows Live essentials is trying to install the upgrade to 2011. It reaches 80% and it's jammed there and it won't give me any error messages, it goes on for hours. Any fix out there?

Answer:Windows Live essentials upgrade KB2434419

Maybe uninstall it and then go immediately to the MS site and get the latest version.1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

I use Windows 7 and I will enumerate my reasons to hate Windows Live Essentials:

1. I don't really like the way Microsoft allows you to install some of their software. They let you download a small setup file such as Office 2010 Beta , and running that setup file lets you download the rest of the application. So why not just let it be downloaded on a whole large file????

2. Months ago, I installed Windows Live Movie Maker and Windows Live Photo Gallery, but I soon found out that they were installed with things like Windows Sign in Assistant and Windows Live Skydrive Upload Tool which I don't need, frankly.

3. Windows Live Photo Gallery is somehow slower than Vista's Windows Photo Gallery, especially on loading image thumbnails. Windows Live Movie Maker- what the heck, Windows Movie Maker 2.6 was much more understandable and better.

4. I wanted to remove Windows Live Movie Maker but would like to keep Windows Live Photo Gallery, but I found no way to uninstall Windows Live Movie Maker only, I had to remove the entire Windows Live Essentials but that would rid off Windows Live Photo Gallery as well. I tried to uninstall it using CCleaner and Add/Remove programs but it always fails, it simply won't do anything to uninstall it.

5. I was finally able to uninstall Windows Live Essentials with Revo Uninstaller Portable, along with the other components like the Sign in Assistant and Skydrive Upload Tool, but my God, Windows Live Essentials left behind hundreds in not a thousand... Read more

Answer:Things you Hate about Windows Live Essentials????

1. They do allow you to download the entire Office beta. This is not part of Windows Live essentials.
Microsoft Office 2010 Beta Professional Plus - Free Download
2. These are free programs and they have set them up to require certain extra programs.
3. Haven't noticed this.
4 and 5. Microsoft didn't leave thousands of registry keys behind, CCcleaner and Revo did.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled but always used Programs and features and have had no problems. I don't hate anything about Windows Live Essentials plus it is free.

Did a Windows Live Essentials update, after which, my email contacts were all gone.

I did system restore, exported the old addys to a folder.
After closing Windows Live Mail, I could not reopen without re-doing the update install. So, I did.

When I went to the CONTACTS tab (bottom left) it never really opens.
It clears the emails or calendar, from the main window but leaves the same 'ribbon'
(or task bar or whatever at the top). It doesn't show the options that should be there for 'contacts' (no import/export/etc).

If it matters, I do not sign in to Windows Live Mail. When I open it, there's always a a popup that says I've tried to sign-in too many times with the wrong info.
I hit cancel, the popup goes bye-bye and I can use mail. Until now. Ugh!

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Answer:Contacts gone after Windows Live Essentials update

If you don't use Hotmail as your main mail account, I suggest getting one, store all your contacts on it via its website, then use it to sign-in to WLM. Next, add the email accounts you do use then delete the Hotmail account you signed-in with.

My son's girlfriend had the same issue - it turns out that she didn't even have that program installed. We set it to "hide" and it hasn't bothered her since.

How do I uninstall Windows Live Essentials? I have tried the usual: control panel, add & remove programs. The Add Ons do uninstall, but not Windows Live Essentials.

Answer:Solved: Uninstall Windows Live Essentials

If you download and install the new Windows Live Messenger 2009, it appears in the Add/Remove Programs list as "Windows Live Essentials".

The install will also place entries for "Windows Live Upload Tool" and "Windows Live Registration" (or something similar to that). Those 2 can be uninstalled.
