Dell studio desktop running windows vista service pack 2 won't boot

Question: Dell studio desktop running windows vista service pack 2 won't boot

Computer would not boot first thing this morning. Was fine last night. When I run start-up repair, it finally brings me to a screen that says this computer is configured to require a password in order to start up. Please enter a startup password. I have never had a start up password and cannot get anything to happen past this. I have malware bytes and Microsoft security essentials running up to date. Please advise.

Preferred Solution: Dell studio desktop running windows vista service pack 2 won't boot

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Dell studio desktop running windows vista service pack 2 won't boot

What happens if you press Enter when you are asked for the password?

Hi
My neighbour has given me his laptop to sort out and I have discovered it is refusing to do any windows updates. It says that the windows update service is not running so cannot update. I have checked as per instructions on the net that the service is set correctly and it seems to be. Does anyone have any idea as to what is causing this. I did find trojan viruses and malware on it and I have got rid of all of that i think.

Answer:vista with service pack 2 - windows update service not running

Maybe try this.

Hi everyone!
Firstly thank you so much for reading this thread, as this issue has been driving me mad all day.
I have a Dell XPS 8900 which has been running great aside from a HDD error about six months ago. Upon replacing the HDD I have had no problems with the desktop computer until today.
My computer was operating perfectly last night, but today I've been having an infuriating issue with audio. I would like to point out that I made no changes to my computer prior to this problem occurring; I turned on the PC this morning and it's been causing me a headache ever since.
The problem
Here's the problem: when I try to play a YouTube video in Google Chrome or attempt to load a video project in Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.0, the speaker in the corner of my toolbar tells me that the Audio Service Is Not Running.
Clicking on the speaker brings up the Windows 10 troubleshooter which appears to fix the problem. However, loading a video on YouTube in Google Chrome or booting Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.0 causes the Audio Service to stop running again.

Assuming that I repair the Audio Service and don't load Google Chrome or Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.0, I can play videos and music with full sound from my HDD using the bog-standard Windows 10 Groove Music or Film & TV apps. Both work without a hitch.
What I've tried
In order to solve this I've tried:

Resetting Windows 10 to factory settings and reinstalling both Google Chrome and Sony Movie Studio ... Read more

Just wondered if anyone else has had the same issue when they tried to update Windows Vista SP1 to SP2. The reason I was trying to update is to update to Internet Explorer 9 for 6 as its my wifes laptop that she very rarely uses. I thought it would be quite easy to do but tried several times and still no joy.
The message that comes up is ERRORNOTFOUND(0x80070490)which I'm aware means Windows cannot search for updates.
I have checked for updates and the following is trying to update but also fails : Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista (KB940157)
The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5710 running Vista SP1 32 bit
Finally I have no repair disc as this is already installed so I tried a reboot, F8 and repair and that also failed....
Any suggestion what to try next??
Many thanks

I have a laptop and desktop both running Vista Ultimate with 4GB ram. Back in April/May time, my laptop was updated with Vista SP1 via the Windows Update and I expected the Windows Update would have done the same to my desktop. However, until now, I still have not offered the Vista SP1 from Windows Update. Any of you have similar problem to mine? Should i update the full version available on the Microsoft website, notwithstanding i have downloaded loads of updates in between?

Hello
My husband uses Chrome and it is running very slow. Firefox seems unaffected.
I recently wiped my computer after a nasty virus and have been trying out various security systems recently trying to decide what I want to buy. Currently using trial version of Avast. I am guessing that I need to take some of those off and would love any advise to get rid of unnecessary programs. I am looking at you, HP!

Hi, I have a Acer aspire running vista home prem, last saterday I was online and internet explorer stopped working as it does from time to time. Vista started it's "problem solution task" and came back with a solution to install service pack 1. That would be the last time my computer booted up. After it installed vista service pack 1 my lap top went to reboot and now I get a blue error screen< I can not get into windows tried safe mode and any other option just goes strait to the error screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If the problem continue, disable or remove any newly insatlled hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing . If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced setup

I tried it it still goes back to this screen before I can load windows..

Answer:vista won't boot up on my acer lap top after installing service pack 1

Hello, you could search this forum in tutorials for how to make a startup repair disc. With my acer i have to press F2 to get into change settings such as boot from cd/dvd which is what you would have to do. I had this same screen with my old laptop and it turned out to be a faulty memory stick (RAM) Hope this helps.

Hi.

I have a big problem with installing VS2008 on Windows 7 Beta. On around 15% of installation it freezes for around half an hour and then alert that "Visual Studio 2008 Cannot be installed, because there is no Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed".

I tried running with all compatibility modes available in properties and of course its running with administrative privilliges.

Is there any solution for this kind of problem?

Answer:Visual Studio No XP Service Pack 2 ;/

When you said "Beta", you meant the RC (Build 7100) or Build 7000?? If you use build 7000, you should upgrade right now to the RC because it will shut itself on the 7000. 7100 will be functionnal until March 2010.

I would like to continue to use my old HP 5P computer that dates back to 1995. I just purchased a new Dell XPS420 computer running Windows Vista Home Edition. However, there is no parallel port on the new computer. Is there a cable that would connect to the end of the parallel cable from the HP printer and the free end would be a USB connection that I could then plug into the USB port on the Dell computer. Would this work?

I went to HP website and apparently the driver for the HP for Vista is the same one from Windows XP. Here is the HP information from their website:

HP LaserJet and Color LaserJet Products - Products Supported and Drivers Included in Microsoft Windows Vista
Your product is supported. Drivers for HP printers are included with the Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System.HP has a Windows Vista driver solution available for your product. This driver will enable your product's basic functions to work.
HP is committed to providing the best experience for HP products in the Windows Vista operating environment.
You can conveniently find this driver in your Windows Vista operating system, today.
At this time the driver will only be available on the Windows Vista operating system through the “Add a Printer” wizard. HP does not plan on placing this legacy driver on www.hp.com.

Answer:HP 5P printer lacking parallel port on new Dell Xps420 desktop running Windows Vista

I've not had positive experiences with parallel-to-USB cables. I can understand not wanting to throw out a piece of hardware that still appears to work, but you might want to reconsider given the cost of the cable, replacement toner cartridges, and even power consumption.

Hi everyone!

Firstly, thank you so much for reading this thread. I've been tearing my hair out all day regarding this problem, and while I feel I've made some progress in isolating the issue, I have no idea how to solve it.

I have a Dell XPS 8900 which I'm very happy with. I had a bum HDD which needed to be changed about six months ago, but since then it's been plain-sailing.

Well, until this morning.

The problem

My computer was operating as usual last night, and I made no changes to the settings nor did I install any new software. However, when I loaded it up this morning I noticed that I couldn't hear audio on YouTube videos in Google Chrome. Where the speaker is in the system tray, I noticed it said 'The Audio Service is Not Running'.

The same thing occurs when trying to load a video project in Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.0, which I use for work.

Clicking on the speaker brings up a Windows 10 troubleshooting protocol, which fixes the problem.

However, if I attempt to load a YouTube video in Google Chrome or boot up Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.0, I get no sound and the system tray tells me that 'The Audio Service Is Not Running' again.

I can play video clips and music files using the standard Windows 10 'Films & TV' or 'Groove Music' apps and both work as normal. I can also play music in iTunes as usual.

What I've tried so far

Like I say, I've been messing with this all day, and have tried a number of solutions:
I reset Windows 10 and re-installed ... Read more

Answer:Windows 10: Audio Service Not Running in Google Chrome / Movie Studio

Welcome to the Tenforums @get2sammyb

First I would check the Windows update history. See if any new drivers were installed by Windows in last couple of weeks or if any updates are failing.

If nothing I would fire up Chrome again, start a video, and I would right click on speaker and open Volume mixer. Chrome should have its own column. Can you adjust volume?

My new fix for everything, do a complete shutdown of Windows by holding shift down and clicking shutdown. This opens a fresh copy of Windows, no Fast Startup Hiberfil.sys.

Can you do a system restore to an earlier time?

Before doing this do you run any Imaging software and can you create a "today" version, just in case. If you don't do Imaging I would recommend Macrium Reflect. There is a tutorial in the forum. Its free, reliable and quick way to get back to a working system.

Others may have other ideas as to resolution.

Ok, its really simple I am trying to install Visual Studio 6 Service Pack 5 but, in order to do that you need to have mdac 2.5 or newer so while installing the installer had to exit sense I apparently did not have mdac 2.5 or newer installed.

So after the installer exits it then presents me with an installation manual and tells me what to do. It says download mdac from the Mircrosoft website and put it in the same directory as the Visual Studio 6 Service Pack 5 setup file then run it to install.

I thought to myself "Wow, this is gonna be easy" but no Microsoft presents me with mass amounts of bullsh**. As I install my MDAC 2.8 file in the same directory as the setup I think "Ok, done" but wow, I was wrong....I run the setup the second time thinking it will go through but even after I installed mdac 2.8 I am presented with "You need mdac 2.5 or newer to continue the installation". I have already tried mdac 2.5-2.7 nothing works can someone please enlighten me to what I am doing wrong?

Microsoft finally released today the first Service Pack to version 2003 of its Visual Studio .NET product, long after the product's release and ever after its successor's release, version 2005. Since it has been a silent release, nothing has been said about what will happen next with it, and no mention of a possible second one has been done.

The Service Pack appears as a traditional service pack, including as usual improvements to the stability and reliability, along with a bug fixes rollup and improvements to the overall security of the program. Its total size is 156MB

I had to do a clean install of my XP professional on my 2 year old computer. Now when I go to reinstall my studio 11 plus program, it says that I need Service Pack 2 on my computer. It is already there, so how do I get around this enigma? I am some what of a self made geek myself, but do come across some weird stuff from time to time. Can somebody help? I tried the directions given by the Pinnacle website where I put the install program into a folder on my desktop and install from safe mode. Safe mode installation had the same message come up.

You can download it and reinstall it, although you really should have SP3 installed to have minimal O/S security at this date. From SP2 to SP3, there are more than over 100 critical updates you may be missing.

Your O/S may be damaged currently, installing SP2 or SP3 may overcome such.

With my Microsoft usb mouse, both ports work with just a little chime to let me know I have plugged in the devise. With my other usb mouse and two different flash disks I am greeted by 'Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard'. I have tried more than once to let the wizard run automatically but, of course, it cannot find relevant software. Hi

I hope someone can help me. I am running Windows XP, but on trying to clean up my hard drive, I found a huge program "Windows Vista Service Pack 1.exe". Why would I have this when I am running XP?? I am scared to delete it in case it does some damage.

Some advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Windows Vista Service Pack 1?? for XP??

I don't see any reason that would be on your hard drive. It is quite possibly a virus or malware program of some kind. A downloaded file from Microsoft would not be named this way. Even if it were legitimate, it would do no good for you because you are running XP.

I think you can safely delete it. In fact, make sure to delete it from the Recycle Bin, too.

Hello
when i installed windows vista service pack 1 today, it asked me to restart my computer, everything seemed like it was going alright but when i clicked resart it was updating stage 1 out of 3, so i took a shower and came back and there was a black screen saying
"!! 0xc01a001d !! 27966/87644 (\Registry\machine\components\derivedData . . .)"
and the computer is completely nonoperational, when i shut down my computer manually, and start it up again, it gives me 2 options,
"Run repair mode" "start windows normally"
I clicked repair mode but it stays on a black screen which does not show anything but the dark abyss in which my dell has entered, if i click start windows normally it starts booting up and counting from 0/87644 but when it gets to 27966/87644 it stops and shows the same message.
I really do not understand what i should do, there is no way of using that computer right now so i have to use a different one. some help would be great.

I formatted and installed Windows 32-bit Vista Premium on my sister's Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. I've done all the Windows Updates with no problem until I installed Service Pack 1. The Service Pack installed okay, except for one file. Security Update KB36330. It failed to install and Windows just keeps asking me to update to Service Pack 1. I've done it multiple times and get the same results. KB36330 fails to install. I've browsed the internet for help and saw that this has happened to other people. But, there was nothing helpful in fixing this problem. Can you help? Thanks for any reply.

My antivirus was on during the installation. I'm using the free version of Microsoft Security Essentials. This is a fresh install, so there's not much going on or install on the laptop.

Can someone help me please? I keep getting a message to say that Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is ready to install, but I don't know whether I need to install it? I have absolutely no problems with my pc and I also have been told that that I need at least 6GB of spare download to install it, which I haven't got! If I don't need it, how can I stop the install message keep flashing up?Many thanks.

Answer:Windows Vista Service Pack 1

SP1 is worthwhile. Are you sure that you only don't have the spare Gb. I would have thought that this would have caused other problems.

I have tried various times to install vista windows service pack2 without any success and I now have dozens of files which are zero size which are so long in name that windows says to remove them you will have to rename to a smaller length which really bugs me. Why does microsoft not make things easier for us.Do I really need this update, what does it do,and can I live without it.

Answer:Do I actually need vista windows Service Pack 2

click here and download and burn the ISO image to a disc. This is a stand alone installation package which will install and then remove all temporary files in it`s wake. I suggest you disconnect from the internet and turn of firewalls and AV software whilst you install the package.

I have a Dell Studio 540s desktop purchased in 2008 which originally had Windows Vista, 32-bit OS factory installed.  I have since upgraded to Windows 7, 32-bit and when I recently attempted to update the BIOS after an error prompt, I found that Dell only provides updated drivers for Windows 7, 64-bit OS.  Is there any way of updating my BIOS, the last version being 2009?

Just bought new never used factory fresh PC Acer AXC-605-UR29
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 manufacrtured this year,
I checked for latest updates and sure enough Service Pack 1 shows up in updates

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

Download size: 9.1 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Important

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is a recommended collection of updates and improvements to Windows that are combined into a single installable update. The service pack can help make your computer safer and more reliable. A typical installation will take about 30 minutes to complete, and you will have to restart your computer about halfway through the process.

This is a brand new PC that was loaded with factory Windows 7 SP1 so what is going on here?
Can I simply ignore the update? My only concern is that somehow MS updates will is considering
Windows 7 outdated and that I will receive no more updates since the Service Pack 1 is showing up
in the update section. How the heck is the possible with a factory image. One other thing that might help is that before I could check for any new updates Windows said I required a update to windows update. I
Did this update before finding the lastest updates. Also many updates are post cut off date for Windows 7 SP 0 so it did show updates until December 2014, I guess I will find out it Windows will continue to supply new updates this coming Tuesday...

Source Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Released

Microsoft has just released the second service pack for the Windows Vista operating system which can either be downloaded as a standalone package or via Windows Update. The standalone package not only contains the Windows Vista Service Pack 2 but also the second service pack for Windows Server 2008, a combined package so to speak. The size of the 32-bit standalone package is about 302 Megabytes for the five language and 390 Megabytes for the seven language service pack and almost double that amount for the 64-bit standalone package which comes in sizes of 508 and 622 Megabytes.
The size of the Service Pack 2 is considerably smaller when downloaded over Windows Update with all downloads being less than 100 Megabytes in size for all possible editions. Microsoft has created a What?s New article at Technet which details the most notable changes that are introduced in Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
Changes that affect most users are the removal of the halp open outbound TCP connection limit, support for Bluetooth 2.1, improvements to Wi-Fi connections and configurations and the integration of Windows Search 4.0.
The standalone Windows Vista Service Pack 2 can be downloaded from the following pages:

First try running the system file checker, it may find errors.
What ever you decide to try then make sure all your documents etc are backed up. Things can go wrong.
Try installing the standalone SP2 after performing a clean boot, clean boot, see if that works. Remember to reset the PC, after trying, to start as normal.

If you have been waiting for Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista, well, you can now mark your calender.

Monday 4th February ... that's tomorrow.

Microsoft claims Windows Vista SP1 will provide key improvements on the security, performance and reliability of Windows Vista by providing :

All previously released updates since RTM
Performance and reliability improvements in core scenarios such as file copy, network browsing, and improved response time to resume from sleep.
Support for new types of hardware, and several emerging standards.
There are improvements to the administration experience. One of the most important changes we?re making is that BitLocker now supports encrypting for multiple volumes.
Of course, Service Pack 1 will also disable two common methods of hacking Windows Vista, namely the OEM BIOS exploit and the Grace Timer exploit.

Notable changes ...

While surfing the internet wirelessly with my HP laptop ive noticed that almost every time, usually after an hour or so of problem free websurfing my internet connection grinds to a halt and i cant open or refresh any more webpages, the little green bar slowly fills up at the bottom of the pages indicating theyre loading but after an age it never gets anywhere and despite connecting/reconnecting i cant seem to get it to work and usually have to restart the computer again through frustration. Ive noticed that ive only really started having this problem since i downloaded the Windows Vista service pack 1 last weekend so i reckon this might be the cause in some way, maybe its conflicting with my firewall, anti virus or quicktime, its only the internet connection that seems to be affected although ive noticed my laptop also seems to take alot longer to shutdown/restart nowadays. im not sure however as i have limited knowledge of computers so was wandering if anyone else who has downloaded this upgrade has had similar problems or if anyone could shed light on what else it might be causing the problems and what i can do to fix it. Ive already sent a diagnostic and email for support form Microsoft but thought id try some technical forums while i await a reply. I realise its quite a vague question and this problem could be caused by any number of factors but i would appreciate any input none the less. thanks

Answer:Windows Vista Service Pack One Released!

It's been a while since I've been around.... but anyways...

Vista SP1 (for those who have been running Windows Update religiously, like myself) are not going to notice much of a difference in the way Windows Vista runs. You will in most cases notice file transfering from HDD to HDD or from one location on the HDD to another of the same HDD to be a bit speedier in initiation and termination after success.

For those who have been running the RC of SP1 are going to notice even smaller changes (like myself) who have been using RC1 since late December 07.

I look forward to what will come of SP1 and eventually SP2, which we all know will come.......

I'm using a laptop with Windows Vista Ultimate 64x. Currently, it doesn't have SP1 (well at least it's not listed under the OS when I Properties for the Computer). Twice, I've used Windows Updater to locate SP1 (as an available update), and installed it. It's still not showing in the Properties, and it continues to appear as an available update. Why isn't it installing, or why isn't my comp recognizing that it's installed? I hope this is clear. Any help would be great. If more specs are needed let me know. The only troubleshooting I've tried is written above. Thanks!

Even if it goes badly and you have to reload, install SP1, it's a must.

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Delayed?

Rumors from unconfirmed sources claim that Windows Vista Service Pack 2 will be delayed by a month. I?m not sure how it can be ?delayed? when no release has been given by Microsoft but who knows. Anyhow, I think getting it done right is more important that getting it done fast, don't you?

News site TechArp is reporting an unnamed but reliable source has revealed the final release candidate of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 is scheduled for release in March, 2009. The finalized code will then be made available to hardware manufacturers and OEMs sometime during Q2 2009.

Answer:Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Delayed?

I wonder if this is actually going to fix or speed up anything. I remember when SP2 for XP came out and it was horrendous. Basically stuffing Longhorn into a service pack was a big no no.

I just hope Microsoft breaks the pattern.

Hi-

I have been working on a users computer for a about a week now and have read about 100 posts on google. I am having trouble uninstalling Service Pack 2 from her Vista X64 machine. I want uninstall the service pack because it has created havoc for her computer. It constantly keeps rebooting at random times and shows a blue screen beginning to dump physical memory. Then when Windows boots back up it says it has recovered from a serious error. On average the computer reboots at least 4 or 5 times a day. Hey guys,

I have just bought Grand Theft Auto IV for PC and after installing it, I was unable to play due to the error on game start up:- GTA IV FATAL ERROR: RMN 40.

After looking around the net I found out (and realized that it was written on the box) Windows Vista Service Pack 1 was required.

Now I currently have Windows Vista 32-bit Operating System Home edition installed. Because I have turned off Automatic Updates to automatically download updates, I am looking through the list and none of them seem to look like the Service Pack 1 update.

I have found which one to download on the Microsoft website but there's a link underneath it saying:

"DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download is available on Windows Update"

When i click it it opens my Automatic Update Windows taking me back to my Automatic Update list.

So I'm asking if anyone could point out to me which one on the list is the Service Pack 1 to download as I have a tight download limit and wish to download the smallest file possible.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. If anyone can also provide me with a link to download the update it would be appreciated, as I am not sure if the one I have is for 32-bit.

Answer:Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Question

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think windows update makes you download some updates first before it gives you the option for SP1 (thats if you do it through Windows Update), if you want to just get it done with, then install SP1 from the website.

Following the success of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 last spring, we have been working hard on Windows Vista Service Pack 2. As a part of the development and testing process, we're going to start by providing a small group of Technology Adoption Program customers with Windows Vista SP2 Beta for evaluation next Wednesday, October 29. The final release date for Windows Vista SP2 will be based on quality. So we'll track customer and partner feedback from the beta program before setting a final date for the release.

Windows Vista SP2 Beta contains previously released fixes focused on addressing specific reliability, performance, and compatibility issues. We expect Windows Vista SP2 will retain compatibility with applications that run on Windows Vista and Windows Vista SP1 and are written using public APIs.

Because we've adopted a single serviceability model, these improvements are integrated into a single service pack covering both Windows Vista (client) and Windows Server 2008 (server) versions. This should also minimize deployment and testing complexity for our customers.

In addition to previously released updates s... Read more

I have read that Service Pack 3 is relatively untested, and to not install it at this time. Unfortunately, I hadn't told my son, and when I did, he said he downloaded the update already. However, he always puts his computer on "hibernate" and hasn't yet "restarted" his computer, so we're still getting the message to "restart" to "finish installing important updates."

Is there anything I can do at this point to remove the service pack components? Or do you have any reassurance or further information about this service pack to make me feel better?

Thank you very much. We have a Toshiba Satellite A135 with dual-processors (1.73 each) & 1.0 G ram. I still consider myself a beginner level user & please send me an answer in primitive layman, if possible!!

Thanks so very much.

Hello everyone,

I had Windows Vista Service Pack 1 installed and windows update wanted me to install Service Pack 2. When installing using windows update, I was getting error code 8024200D. To get past this, I downloaded Service Pack 2 onto my desktop and installed. Everything worked fine, the computer rebooted showing that it was installing the 3 steps required.

The computer came up and I went to the Control Panel >> System and it still said Service Pack 1. A few minutes later the automatic update wanted me to install service pack 2 again. So I did. Each time it was successful. I reboot and the system still says service pack 1 even though my install history shows it installed service pack 2 successfully.

I tried the downloaded install from the desktop again and it comes up with a message that service pack 2 is already installed.

I tried the winver program and it shows service pack 1. I have looked on the internet for several hours now to find a solution and nothing appears.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I am trying to Uninstall Windows Vista Service Pack 2 64 bit after a number of programs do not open since this update.

I attempted to reverse this update through System Restore, but apparently all the restore points before the update may have been purged.

Answer:Uninstall Windows Vista Service Pack 2

Having you tried going to add/remove programs, and check the box that says "show updates"? You should then be able to see the update and delete it.

Kia ora from New Zealand,

My laptop was taken back to factory condition almost four weeks ago, and all the Windows updates downloaded - which took hours!

The problem I am having is Windows Vista Service Pack 1 KB936330 wants to download yet again.
My Windows Update History shows this Service Pack was first downloaded successfully on 28 June, successfully again on 29 June, Canceled on 29 June, Successful on 29 June, Canceled on 9 July, Failed on 9 July, Canceled on 10 July. Should I let the Service Pack 1 Instal qagain, and perhaps delete the earlier versions - or what?

Another problem:
My laptop beeps then freezes. This has happend about five times since 28 June. Could this be related to the Service Pack problem? Or could it be a memory problem. My laptop is an HP Pavilion entertainment dv2000 series. I bought it in 2007 so it's a little oldie but a goodie.

Thank you for reading my post.
Regards
Aku

Answer:Windows Vista Service Pack 1 KB936330

The HP Pavilion dv2000 series laptop has several models, so we need to confirm which one you have.

Advise us what the product number(P/N) and/or model number(M/N) is that's on one of the stickers.

---------------------------------------------------------

Does the factory restore install Windows Vista(original version) or Windows Vista SP1?

Depending on which one it does, you need to download and save the full SP1 and/or SP2 upgrades and then burn them to CD's or a DVD.

Once the factory restore is complete and the computer is restarted, you need to install the SP1 and/or SP2 upgrades.

Once the upgrade(s) is installed and the computer is restarted, you need to go to Windows Update, then download and install the important/recommended updates.

The goal is to get Windows Vista up-to-date before you start installing programs and extras in that computer.

Hi all:

Your posts have been really helpful in the past and I always check here first when I have a problem.

I allowed Vista service pack 1 to install via windows update alert.(Vista 32 Premium)

- My pc rebooted after install and screen stalled with one row of numbers showing on the upper left of black screen.(I didn't write them down)

-Tried to boot in safe mode twice and it stopped with a long list of files showing as loading on the screen.

-Tried repair with Windows Vista OEM disc repair option and the first time it did not work and when it rebooted it stopped with one row of numbers showing on the upper left of black screen same as before.

-System restore was able to run on a second try and my machine reverted back to pre sp1 installation.

I tried the Microsoft Help and Support site mentioned in another post several times but when I submit my question I get "Sorry, the page you requested is not available".

I would appreciate any suggestions
Thanks
Jaff

Answer:Service pack 1= unable to boot to windows

This sounds like the same problem i've got.

It seems to install sp1 fine and goes through the 3 installation steps and then reboots.

After this reebot i get stuck in DOS with error code

!! 0xc 0000034 !! 248/91334 (_0000000000000000.cdf-ms)

I can do a system restore back to before i had sp1.

Every time i retry sp1 installation the same error occurs.

I dont want to do a clean re-install of vista.

Im running home premium.

Thanks for taking the time to help.
Please don?t be put off by the length of this. I just want to be thorough
and to make sure you know what I have already done.
I?m sure you won?t need to read it all.

The problem is: As a result of the download and/or the installation of Service Pack 3 I can?t get access to Windows or to a C>.

FYI: I?m not sure, but I believe this version of Windows might have been set up as a domain (I have no idea what that means ? this was my daughter?s computer at college, now it?s mine and I would like to remove all that stuff anyway, including passwords, etc.)

Here goes:
I have Windows XP Professional.

I was prompted by Microsoft that there were updates. That update was Service Pack 3. After SP 3 was loaded, I was prompted to restart the computer. I got the following error message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\Windows\inf\biosinfo.inf
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select ?r? at the first screen to start repair.

What follows is what I?ve done and it all leads to nothing, no repair, no Windows and no C>.

I changed the Boot Sequence so that the ?CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive was the first recognized.
I boot with the only disk I have. It?s labeled ?Reinstallation CD, Microsoft Windows XP Professional Including Service Pack 2?.

This gets me to Windows XP Professional Setup screen that gives me 3 choices:

Yes this computer was on domain and computer is pretty older and the BIOS is not compatible with sp3.. You need to update BIOs before you install sp3.
Right now computer is in NO boot.you do notv remember the password.
Repair would not work although you can reset the password using repair.

I have been having serious trouble keeping my system stable over the last few months. When you get your system stable and running good use a backup image program, there are free versions that work really well.
Keep the backup file on an external HD and restoring is easy.

Is the computer new or pre owned / used / refurbished?

Did the problem begin right out of the box?

Have you contacted Dell? This system might be under warranty.

What happens if you boot directly to safe mode?

I am 14 years old and had given my old computer to my Grandpa about a year ago and I ended up wiping the computer and reinstaling Windows Vista on it the computer has been operating fine until recently. I have it set to automatically update Windows when needed now for a while for some unknown reason it will not update windows service pack 2 after many attempts. The computer is a Dell Insiron 1521 with a ADM turion 1.79 GHz processer with 4 GB of ram and has a 32 bit operating system. The start up system repair is not an option because I put the CD in and there was no repair option, and I have tried the check system readiness tool from the microsoft website but it was unsuccessful. It keeps giving me the error code ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT(0x800737112).

Hello everybody, am a new user on this forum.

I seem to be having trouble with my operating system on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 3710 laptop. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Serivce pack 2 which came preinstalled on the laptop when i bought it new 4 years ago. Albeit it is a little slow these days and i just did a defrag on it. But anyway, a random BSOD turned up when i was surfing the internet like i do everyday, i was also using a flash application to upload a video to Youtube. It restarted the computer, and when the windows logo comes up before the login screen fades in, it now comes up with a BSOD(Don't ask what it said, it came on and off too quick). Now running in Safe Mode with networking that runs fine. Can anyone help me with this?

Cheers,
Scott

Answer:Windows Vista Home Premium(Service Pack 2)

In safe mode, disable "Automatic restart" in:
Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Startup and Recovery [Settings]
Untick "Automatically restart" and click 'OK'.

Now try to restart normally and when the BSOD appears it should stay up, allowing you to read it.
Post what it says on there, especially the error statement in block caps, and the BCC data below it.

Hello, first time posting please bare with me.

I am trying to update a family members laptop which is a Dell Inspiron 1720 with vista home premium pre-installed. Windows update recommends Windows Vista SP1 (KB936330). Made several attempts to download and install this update and haven't had any success. The update runs like normal and automatically restarts the computer, then I get a window with some info saying the update failed to install. Error code 8007371C, and error code 8007000D. Two different codes for two different attempts.

I troubleshooted this through microsoft help and solutions and followed their instructions. I downloaded the stand alone 32-bit package from the microsoft download center and ran it, my computer froze up during the install (the install was supposed to take around an hour to complete) so after a few hours frozen I chose to cancel the install and try again. I still haven't attempted a re-install. Thought I would see if anyone else knows how to fix this issue first.

Thanks

Recently my computer had a virus. I had to do a complete system restore. Now that I have done this I am trying to install the service pack 1 for this operating system and I get to the third step and the progress bar hardly moves. I have let it run for
up to 8 hours and no progression. I tried to install the service pack 2 but it says I need 1 first. Need lots of help on this issue please. Windows update not catching that I need this.

Answer:Service pack 1 for windows vista home premium

Hi,

During the Windows Vista SP1 installation, this issue occurs when a third-party application holds open a file or locks a file that the Service Pack installation program
has to use. For example, a third-party antivirus or antispyware application may cause this problem. If you are running any third-party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or web accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet connection),
security or anti-virus programs (McAfee, Norton, etc.), I recommend temporarily disabling or shutting them down during the troubleshooting process. Please be sure to re-enable them once the process has completed.

I recommend running Reset Windows Update Tool and System Update Readiness Tool. System resources, such as file data, registry data, and even in-memory data, can develop
inconsistencies during the lifetime of the operating system. These inconsistencies can be caused by various hardware failures or software issues. In some cases, these inconsistencies can affect the Windows servicing store, and they can cause software updates
not to work. We can run Reset Windows Update Tool and System Update Readiness Tool to resolve these inconsistencies. When Reset Windows Update Tool and System Update Readiness Tool detects incorrect manifests, files, or registry data, it might replace the
incorrect data with a corrected version. Please follow the steps below.

Step 1: Run Reset Windows Update T... Read more

Hello all,
I have an old Toshiba Satellite A215-S722 that I put an Intel SSD into (a few months back) shortly after, re-installing Vista via the recovery disk. Now, it seems that I am unable to Upgrade to service pack 1. This is kinda concerning seeing how Vista itself tends to be kinda unstable without any service packs and also is less secure and is not supported.

Anyway, I've tried installing SP1 through windows update, and as an individual file. Both failed, the most recent reporting error 80070005.

Here are the laptop's specs:

I was minding my own business when Windows Update said I should install Vista Serivce Pack 2, so I did. The update seemed to install fine, then it said I should restart, so I did. Now my computer won't go past the boot screen. It's a blue screen that says HP Invent. My PC is an HP Pavilion Slimline. I tried manually shutting it off and trying again but it just WON'T move past the boot screen. I even tried going into safe mode by repeatedly pressing F8, or I tried pressing ESC to go into BOOT OPTIONS but it's like the keyboard isn't responding. I am on my laptop now. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?? Please!
Thanks.

I looked through the HP forum for stuck on HP Invent and you aren't the first person to have this problem.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a solution. Most threads don't offer a suggestion as to what you can try.

If I were you, I'd email HP support and see if they can offer a solution or give you a link to a web page with a solution.
