Mouse randomly dies for a couple of seconds

Question: Mouse randomly dies for a couple of seconds

As the title says, my mouse stops working for a couple of seconds and then starts working perfectly again. It mainly happens when I am playing BF3, the game freezes for a second, then I hear the usb-removal sound Windows makes and the game unfreezes but the mouse is dead, then game freezes again for a second and mouse starts working. During the moment mouse is dead all other USB connected things works, only mouse that dies.
It has happened a few times before when im not in any game.

Why is this happening? I have never had any problem with this before.
I have tried putting my mouse a different USB port and it helped for a day or two and then it happened again.

Preferred Solution: Mouse randomly dies for a couple of seconds

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Mouse randomly dies for a couple of seconds

I have had this same problem a few months ago. Although it happened with my mouse and keyboard simultaneously. My main harddrive was going bad. I replaced it and have not had the problem since. It was rather confusing at first as I had never seen these symptoms before from a bad harddrive.

Hello all! I am having a weird issue with my computer. My computer seems to randomly freeze when it is not in game. I recently installed some new ram and thought that was the problem so I checked it with memtest 86 (not memtest 86+ since it didn't work with my UEFI bios) overnight and when I woke up this morning there were no errors so I found that interesting. Next I checked the hard drive to make sure nothing on it was corrupt so I did a chkdsk /r and it is still happening after I did that too. Finally, I checked it with Malwarebytes then with Bitdefender Total Security to see if malware or a virus was causing the issue and nothing was found. If any of you could help me that would be awesome of you.

Answer:Computer randomly freezing for a couple seconds.

Have you tried to open up Task Manager and then select the performance tab and then click the button Resource Monitor and see if anything is eating up most of the CPU ?
Have you returned your CPU and GPU back to stock frequencies and voltages yet? Probably a Power Supply issue.

I've had this problem for some time now, and I'm losing my freakin' mind trying to find a fix for it. I've searched everywhere for an answer, and I can't find anything that works.

It happens like this... I'll be browsing along and wind up on YouTube, watch a couple of videos and then the audio just quits. Not like it stops working in the middle of a video, or it stops working after a video finishes. The audio will work for a couple of seconds after I start the video, but then it'll quit. It's not just YouTube, though. It's all Flash video. The only way I can get it working is to close the browser and reopen it. I use Chrome mostly, but I've switched to Firefox and IE and it happens there, too. Here's the thing... It's not just Flash video.

Sometimes, when I open a video file to play in WMP, the audio just doesn't work at all. I have to close the program and re-open the file to get it to work. If I pause a file in the middle of playback and leave it for a few minutes then try to resume play, the audio quits working, but the video keeps moving right along. Sometimes, if I try to play a file in iTunes, the audio either doesn't work right off the bat or it does the YouTube thing, plays for a couple of seconds and quits, then I have to restart iTunes to get it to work again.

The weirdest thing is that it doesn't affect really anything else that I've noticed. Just WMP, iTunes and any Flash video play... Read more

Hello,
I have a user with a dell latitude d620 laptop. Her external usb mouse stops working every few hours-- apparently when she's doing nothing out of the ordinary, the "installing new hardware" dialog comes up randomly, and when she cancels out of it, the mouse will stop working at a slightly later time. Even the red LED light on the bottom of the mouse goes out.

We've tried different models USB mice, attaching it directly to a USB port on the laptop, via the USB port on the laptop dock, and even with a USB->PS/2 adapter via the dock's PS/2 port.... all with the same results. Every time, when the mouse is working fine, it'll pop up the 'installing new hardware' dialog, and afterwards it just suddenly stops working.

Any ideas? I have no idea what's going on.

She's running windows xp sp3 with symantec endpoint, all the usual office software, really nothing out of the ordinary.
thanks,
Mitch

Don't know what's wrong here, I'm thinking it's a issue with my ram. My ram is ddr2 800 running at 5-5-5-15 and I have a overclocked 2180 to 3.0.

I'm running 32-bit Vista with 4 gigs of ram and my computer freezes then regains itself.

Here is a shot of CPU, I don't know if it will help.

So I'm currently having an issue with my Wireless Laser 8000 (Bluetooth) and hoping someone here might have some insight on it as my googlefu is not getting any results and I really don't want to replace the mouse as I'm using it in combo with the Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000 keyboard and pretty much love this setup right now.

As of late my mouse has decided to basically throw itself in to sleep mode after about 3-5 seconds of no activity. This doesn't happen all the time but it's getting kind of insane as bringing it out of sleep causes some serious mouse lag and/or quite a bit of moving or a click to reactivate it.

Anyone with this mouse ever run in to a problem like this or in general? The keyboard isn't running in to any issues in regards to losing signal and/or sleeping and not kicking in right.

Unfortunately the Wireless Laser 8000 has been discontinued so I can't even get a proper replacement for it and have to get one of the new bluetrack mice, but none of them are rechargeable .

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Wireless Laser 8000 - Mouse sleeps after a couple of seconds

Frist thing comes to mind for me is; have you checked the battery status to see if it needs replaced. On rechargable batteries, there is a set number of recharges it can have and they do go bad from time to time. I would start there first, replace the battery. Here's a link to the mouse if you have not already checked it out.

I have searched a lot, and found no one that had the same problem. Maybe similar, but not identical. Since I built my PC (very first one I might add) I had no problems like this, but lately, it's been acting crazy. I am just doing my stuff, minding my own business, when all of a sudden, everything stops and is unresponsive for a few seconds. Things work again for maybe 5 seconds, and stuff freezes once more. And it's not always everything, sometimes maybe my internet browser will freeze, maybe an opened folder, maybe a tab in Google Chrome, sometimes 2 things out of 5 running, sometimes a portion of a program, like I can't scroll down, but I can click on things. When audio plays, it starts to repeat like a scratched CD, and things become unresponsive. When I turn off audio, everything runs smoothly either for a couple hours, or a couple of seconds. I scanned my PC for viruses, nothing, scanned for malware, had a few entries which I cleaned, but didn't help, defragmented my PC, which didn't help at all, and I ask you, what may the problem be? I try to avoid formatting, for I suspect (and hope) it's hardware problem. I have 2GB RAM, Asus mobo, which probably causes all the problems like it always does, Geforce 9600 graphics card, AMD athlon x2 dual core. I tried the obvious, just as turning off background programs, checking unnecessary things in processes, and ran out of ideas, so I want to know if there is a known solution to this.

Thank you
Daniel

Answer:Computer freezes every couple of seconds for a couple of seconds

How long has it been since you took a can of compressed air and blew the dust bunnies out of the heatsink and fans in that case? If you have not done that, this should be the first thing you do. You also need to list all specs.

My mouse cursor just randomly stops moving for a few seconds and starts moving again. My cursor randomly froze at least 2-3 times just registering and creating this topic. It also randomly disconnects as well and the only way to get it to work again is unplugging and re-plugging the mouse in.

edit: mouse isn't wireless.

Answer:Mouse cursor freezes for a few seconds and randomly disconnects

I hope, for your sake, the mouse is USB. You NEVER pull a PS/2 mouse out nor plug it in while the computer is on.

Easiest first troubleshooting step: try another mouse.

Second test: boot into safe mode and post whether the same behavior occurs with the problem mouse.

The whole problem started with Symantec constantly spamming me with this email proxy message saying that it couldn't send email to email adresses I've never even heard of. I couldn't find an answer so I finally just turned off me email scanning and the problem stoped. A couple of days past and then all of a sudden my computer stars to act up and restart randomly. I think all of the problems have passed from that but I just put it in here in just incase.

Now after I turn on my computer my internet dies partially. My internet will work anywhere from 10-40 minutes before losing the connection but my status doesn't say so. It doesn't even say limited connectivity it just acts as if everything was normal. Basically anything that I was running like an online game or AIM still works but my Internet Explorer doesn't work. I have to keep restarting my computer to get my internet to work. I didn't know if this was a software probelm so I downloaded Firefox and Firefox doesn't work either. I've also ran spybot and problem still occurs.

Last night, I started to experience a problem with my T61 (model 7664 - 14.1" widescreen). I was working on it when it completely lost power - switched off and all of the lights, including the mains light, went off. I unplugged it, removed the battery, and then plugged it in again - the mains light came back on, but when I tried switching it back on then within less than a second everything went dead again. I tried this a few more times - it doesn't seem to "forget" the fault condition until I completely remove power, i.e. unplug the machine and remove the battery. Once I have done that, I can start it up again, either with mains power or with battery only, but it soon dies again. The length of time it take to fail varies - the longest so far has been about 15 seconds, i.e. it got part way through booting into Windows before shutting down. But usually, the lights only go on for less than a second before everything stops. Can anyone suggest what the problem may be or how I investigate further? Thanks,Dan Sumption

Problem: When I try to boot my T60 it shows the usual stuff on the screen for about 3 seconds after I press the power button, then it dies.  This situation came out of nowhere, overnight. The behavior is exactly the same if I try WITHOUT the battery inserted. Should the T60 not be able to boot without battery inserted? Led indicators:When it is off WITH the battery inserted, it shows battery led green and AC power led green. All other leds off. When it is off WITHOUT the battery insterted, it shows the AC power led green only. ... based on the User Manual, I am not really sure what to make of this.  What? Could this be my battery?  Could it be the AC adaptor?  Any ideas? (My battery is not affected by the recall) Mads

Answer:T60 boots for 3 seconds then dies

Welcome to the forum! Can you borrow a different AC adapter and test with it?  If you leave the machine plugged in, and off, is the battery light on?  I'm smelling a motherboard problem here. If your machine is still under warranty, send it in for service. BTW, your machine should boot with no battery installed, no questions asked.  Good luck and let us know.

When I press the power button, the pc appears to start (all fans spin) then it dies after a few seconds and the power light blinks once (my fans are lit and also blink) After that if I press the power button again, the pc boots fine. (No "Windows failed to start screen") Also when the computer is set to sleep mode all fans die but the keyboard still lights up and when I press the power button to turn it back on it remembers the keys I pressed. It's a new pc.

Computer just started doing something funny, and wanted to know if anyone has had this specific problem...

Computer just randomly shut off the other day, no one was on it, nothing was open. On trying to Restart, it woudl start loading Windows, and all USB peripherals would die, and login screen would come up. Within 10 Seconds the computer shuts off again. IT does this same thing EVERYTIME. I can open Bios, and it will not shut off ( had this open for an hour). Ran setup and safe mode, still kills my USB on load, but did not shut the computer off. However, since USB was killed, I can't login and run any support.

I tend to think this is software, a virus of some nature, since I have no Bios operation issues.

Spec wise, I built this computer 5 months ago, and everything has been running beautifully. I hardly think it a PSU issue, since i have a 600 watt supply with plenty of amps to the 12v.

Any Ideas?

Thank you all so much

Answer:Dies 10 seconds after load. Kills USB on Boot.

when you boot, do you hear the BIOS post beep. it should be a single beep near the powerup of the pc. If you do then the BIOS isnt the problem as it has correctly identified all the devices. Just make sure the BIOS screens after this post dont show anything out of the ordinary.
if this is in order, then post back and someone maybe able to help you further

I have just built this system and my monitor consistently shuts down/sleeps 90 - 120 seconds after system bootup.

Mobo: Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
CPU: AMD 2500 Barton, overclocked to 400MHZ
VGA: Gigabyte 9600XT 128MB (GV-R96X128D)
RAM: 1 GB (2 Geil 512MB PC-3200)
HDrive: Western Digital 160MB
Power Supply: Raidmax 420W

I tried a different monitor and that had no effect. I finally installed an older VGA card just to get through the BIOS settings and to load Windows XP. After getting XP loaded I tried the GV-R96X128D card again and the monitor continues to shut down 90-120 seconds after system startup. I've adjusted various bios settings, backing down to 333MHZ, changed the AGP settings and completely rebooted mulitple times. Nothing seems to have an effect. I checked the fan on the card and it is working. My case is cool; CPU temp is 49C, motherboard temp is 28C.

Any suggestions? I opened a case with Gigabyte but all they said was to verify that my mobo supported AGP 8X and 1.5V. I sent them the ASUS specs on the mobo (it supports up AGP Pro/8X (1.5V only)) and I haven't heard back from them yet.

Have I missed something obvious or should I return my video card? Any idea why the monitor works consistenly for the first 90-120 seconds before shutting down?

Thanks

I have a Windows 2000 Pro system that has a quirky thing going on with it. I have had to use Clam AV (AVG won't run on this) to scan for viruses, and it did find a lot of worms though I'm not completely confidant it was able to remove everything.

The computer can access the Internet with no problems if you boot into Safe Mode With Networking, but under a normal boot, it will lose connectivity to the Internet very shortly after logging it. I tested this using "ping google.com -t" to do an endless ping and the connection would go from replies with no problem to "Host not resolved" (I think that's what it says). This seems to be related to something with DNS, I think. Because I can connect the PC to another laptop via a crossover cable, assign static IP's to each, and they will ping each other. But once the connection is cut off, it won't ping the router or anything on the Internet.

I downloaded Hijack This via safe mode, restarted, and ran two scans. The first scan was done while the Internet connection was still working and google's pings were coming back okay.

The second scan was done about a minute later, very shortly after internet connectivity was acting foul. I've attached both log files to this post, so hopefully someone might be able to tell me what to try to get this working right.

Thanks!

It's is a linksys WUSB11 V2.8, on a winxp (SP2) machine, useing the drivers that came with it, and the windows wifi utility, and I have all encription disabled. It is not raining here or anything, and it connected well before, after it reconnects, It reconnects with no trouble, yet it will not reconnect on it's own, I have to do it on my own, which interrupts everything that I am doing. It's really annoying, and I have the card in a position where it gets the best quality signal. It gets 2 or 3 bars, which isn't that bad.

can someone help me?

Answer:My wifi connection dies after 10-40 seconds, with a decent signal quality....

try hooking it up right next to your router. that will narrow down the issue. if its still getting disconnects you know its not a signal strength issue. if it indeed isn't a signal strength issue try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, and as a last resort try reinstalling the networking components. If its a signal strength issue, you can always pick up a higher db antenna for under 20ish dollars.

Ahhh!!! Nothing ever shows up on the screen. The blue power light stays lit the whole time (I don't think power is being interrupted to the mobo). The green light on the power supply also stays continuously lit. I have not made any software or hardware changes for several weeks. It does it when operating from battery pack, on AC, and with both, it doesn't seem to matter. I have pulled out the ram and tried the original ram that came with it, it still does it. It doesn't make any beeps or anything. It powers up for 3 seconds then dies (except blue power light stays on still), then it continues to do this. I downloaded the pdf for tearing apart the laptop and took it all apart to be able to access the CPU. I pulled it out and reinstalled it again to make sure it was seated again. Put whole thing back together (3 hours wasted), and it still does it.

Please help. I think I might be in the market for a new mobo...which is last I saw $900.

Are there any aftermarket motherboard makers that might make one that will fit an HP case? Or does anyone have an idea of what I can do to salvage some value out of this thing?? Please help!!!!

Pretty much what I asked in the Subject line.

Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop's display goes obscenely dim a few seconds after windows loads up, safe mode, VGA mode, doesn't matter, and I'd assume just DOS as well. I can tell the bulb is off, as hinge area no longer gets obscenely hot. I can read what I have to with a flashlight so I can drag windows onto the monitor I've been using as an extension of the desktop, but is there any way to set that to my main display? (I.e. where the start menu and taskbar is and the such)

In theory there should be a way, but the "Use This Device as my primary monitor" option is greyed out. Anyway to override that?

Every so often my computer will freeze for just a couple seconds and then work normally. It doesn't seem to be so much the computer but just my mouse. For example, in counter strike i could still walk forward and such, but I couldn't move my crosshair for a couple seconds. This happens in and out of game. I just reformatted so I don't have much on here. I have sygate, avast!, aim, xfire, and steam normally running but I've turned off avast!, aim, and xfire and it still happened. Maybe this is a hardware issue?

Answer:Win XP randomly Dies

You can test the PSU with a multimeter. Do a search on the web and you will find info on how to do this. Also, make sure the memory you put in is good. Download memtest. You'll need to put it on a bootable floppy. Then boot from the floppy and run it. It will run continously. Leave that running overnight. If it is the memory it will tell you. And if it is a problem with Winxp you'll know it because the system won't have locked up. If it does lock up the problem isn't Winxp. But rather a hardware issue.

Hi everyone, My girlfriend recently bought an HP Pavillion 15 notebook (Windows 10, I think 32-bit, but it can also be 64-bit). Immidiately after purchase, she noticed some issues with the audio. When watching a movie or listening to music, the audio suddenly fades to an inaudible level. When the video/music is paused and turned on again, the same issue keeps occuring so watching movies or series isn't really possible. I've tried going to "Playback Devices" > "Properties" > "Advanced" and adjusting the quality of the sound, but it did not work.  Please help us fixing this issue   Thanks in advance

have quite a problem
internet disconnects from PC every couple seconds
tried multiple adapters
and others pc's on network are fine
already reinstalled OS windows 10 to try and fix it
to no avail
have already tried many of the solutions on the internet and none work for this issue
most likely source would be a faulty motherboard or at least the usb ports it uses
But I am unsure. Replaced case recently and ever since I did it started having these issues. replaced HDD with a new HDD with a fresh install of Windows 10 and am stumped as to why this is happening.
have already tried making non automatic channels in router, turning off power save functions in regards to the adapters, and checked drivers for everything and nothing came up needing updates, reinstalled adapter drivers more than once each, and checked every port on both case and motherboard with the same result.
I am desperate at this point.

I'll start by giving all the relevant stats to make things easier to diagnose.
Win98, PIII 500MHz, 256MB SDRAM, 16x DVD-ROM, Voodoo3 AGP (no hardware DVD decoder) and Mediamatics DVD-Express.
Most DVDs run perfectly well on my PC and I can usually have other programs running in the background (including winamp) with no noticable effect on framerate while playing fullscreen. The problem is only with a couple of discs. When I start playing, the producers opening logo runs, but gradually slows to a halt after about two seconds. The image is degraded and the program is unresponsive. I can use ctrl-alt-del to close DVD-Express without any major hassles. I get all my DVDs from my local video rental store so it's probably not a region problem.
The movies that didn't work are "Boiler Room", "Next Friday" and some others. Boiler Room and Next Friday were both new to the video shelves and had probably never been run before. Next Friday came in a two disc set along with it's predeccesor, "Friday", which worked perfectly.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi, welcome. If you read a little farther down this forum, you'll see my post about the ATI Player and a Hitachi DVD. I'm having exactly the same problem, though it usually occurs for me late in a film. Same thing, too, with a brand new disc I own myself, never played, still locks up.

Not that commiseration helps you. Maybe someone out there can tell us if there are just some PC DVDs that read better than others, or even as well as a tv-top one, or short of that I'd take any tips on how to read a disc that won't read...

I got a virus about a 2 weeks ago and it really slowed my computer down and it started to freeze for a couple of seconds and would work. So I reinstalled vista to get rid of it ( norton could not get rid of it). After I reinstalled vista it still is freezing is there any way to fix this problem.

I just started having this problem an hour or two ago, my browser (Google Chrome) stalls every minute or so.

What I mean by this is, when I am on any webpage, it will deselect the webpage and give the default windows "ding" sound like the one here at 17 seconds in: Microsoft Windows 7 Sounds - YouTube It is kind hard to explain my problem but it is irritating as hell. If I'm typing something for example, it will stop the text and give the windows "ding" sound.

Other information that might help?

-I'm on Windows 7
-I just ran out of my Norton subscription today (could be a virus? )
-I'm using Google Chrome
-This is pissing me the hell off

My internet now gets disconnected every couple minutes or so. What the hell? This might have something to do with it?

Not quite sure which section this belongs in. Sorry if this is the wrong one.

Answer:My browser stalls every couple seconds

The expiration of Norton may be causing conflicts on the system. Remove Norton with the Norton removal tool. Then replace Norton with Microsoft Security Essentials to see if it provides smoother behavior with the browser.

Hi. I am running Windows 7 x64 and I have a problem where the computer lags every few seconds. For example, while I am typing this message, every couple words, the line cursor freezes, and then after a second, everything I type appears on screen.

Another example would be switching tabs in Firefox, clicking a tab, it would take a few seconds to switch. Going to a different program would have the same effect.

I ran MemTest for about 14 hours or so and passed. I have 8GB of RAM.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Answer:Computer lags every couple seconds

Howdy:wave .... I'm upgrading a computer and after putting it all together I can't get the power to stay on. I hit the power button and the fans spin for a few seconds and that's it. I checked all my connections and they seem ok ... I have a cooler master 500w P/S I know works because I just pulled it from the machine I'm upgrading from.

This is the mobo.

This is the CPU. I checked my hookup to the case and it looks ok.

The cpu is plug into the mobo. An in goes into the LGA socket only fits one way you can't put it in wrong. I installed the memory 2 2GB DDR 3 memory sticks. A PCI sound blaster card, and a pci-e IDE adapter. I have a PNY GForce 210 in the pci-e video slot. Not sure what is going on .... ah .... HELP!rolleyes

Answer:New Build Powers For A Couple of Seconds

On first glance, I'd suspect a bad or overpowered PSU.

Make sure your motherboard isn't shorting out due to direct contact to the metal case where it shouldn't. Make sure the rest of your components are seated correctly. When it turns on, do the video card fans spin at all?

I can't tell you when it started happening because it's slowly been getting worse and worse for a over a year.

First off, here are a few specifications:

I am Running Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit.

My Parts are:
ASUS Z97 Sabertooth Mark I (Motherboard)
Intel i7 4790K (cpu)
(Asus) Nvidea GTX 750 1 GB GDDR5 (gpu)
I am unaware of what my PSU is, but It's made by Corsair, is 80+ Bronze, and is 3.5 years old.
G.Skill Sniper Series 2x4GB RAM 1600
Kingston 120 GB SSD (Currently 90% Capacity w/Operating System)

Please Note that I have also done malware scans using both AVAST and Malwarebytes and using a Kaspersky Labs Anti-Rootkit Scanner, all coming up clean. So let's assume the problem sisn't a virus

My problem starts right from the login screen, not in the BIOS or Boot Process. What happens is, there is a light on the front of the computer, I am unaware of what the light is signalling specifically, but generally it flashed often when processing is occurring. Every 30-90 seconds my computer will hang, disallowing any program to load anything into memory. anything currently in memory can be modified. The problem usually lasts about 10 seconds but has been increasing over time.

Along with this has been a general slow-down of the computer. Decreasing in general speed over time as well. During some games I've tried playing on it, the effect grows massively worse. In Planetside 2, every 5-7 seconds, the game will skip up t... Read more

Answer:Windows hangs every couple seconds

Lets assume you have no viruses firstly.

Try freeing up some Space on the SSD as 10% free is what we call the Mininum  so try and increase it as much as possible.

Remove unused Programs / Old Restore Points / Temp Files / Do a Disk Cleanup Also { R/C Drive - Properties - Disk Cleanup }.

Any personal files / Pics / Videos / etc ...offload to an External Drive.

See if that the above helps : if not try 1 x stick ram as a test to see if it still lags.

Post back any results.

Answer:Qosmio F30-140 - Every couple of seconds it stops

Hello jas

What to say about it? What do you mean with ?stops??
Does your notebook make a short freezing pause and continue to work or just stops and you must restart it?

You know, it is not easy to discuss about such issues without knowing some basic stuff about your notebook. I mean you have probably many stuff installed on your notebook and who knows what kind of processes are running in the background. Is HDD led permanently ON when this happen?

I can imagine very well how annoying it must be when this happen while gaming and you are in the right position to eliminate your enemy and then .... stop. Nothing happens. ;)

When I'm working or playing on my Qosmio F30-140 computer jams or stops for a second every 30 seconds. Its repetable. But not always. After restart its ussualy goes away.

I don't know if that is a HDD problem or maybe I have some application that couses the problem.

Please help.

Answer:Qosmio F30-140 - Every couple of seconds it stops

Hello

At the moment it?s really hard to say what the reason is for this issue. As you said it could be a HDD or software problem?

But in your case I would check the HDD first. Therefore you can use the Drive Fitness Test:
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
With the Drive Fitness Test you can test your HDD. Download the CD image, burn it on a CD and boot from it. Then you can the test HDD.
On the same website is a user guide if you want to know more.

If the Drive Fitness Test can?t find an error you should try to reinstall Windows using the Toshiba recovery disk. Then you will get back the factory settings and normally with these settings all should work properly.
In my opinion it could be also a software issue, maybe an old firewall or antivirus software.

Hello everyone,

I've already been looking on the internet for any solutions and have tried some but nothing has seemed to work so far.
When playing a game (League of Legends), my screen sometimes randomly turns black and recovers itself after a few seconds. I already deleted previous drivers and installed the latest drivers (even the beta one from nvidia). I've also run Prime95 but that only checks my CPU which seems fine. I've been having this issue for a couple of days now. Mostly, it happens when i'm in game and my temperatures always seem fine. But sometimes it happens when just browsing the internet, after playing League of Legends. I would like to try to solve it without needing to replace any hardware parts because all my parts seem fine from temperature, etc... It would be hard for me to get a part to test my PC with because i don't really know any other people with custom PC's. I have a gtx660 Graphics Card and a 600W GS600 Corsair PSU. (As i've read on other forums, these two parts seem to be the major problems). I've seen many forums and would like to ask direct help from the pro's because i've seen so many things to try that I don't know what to try anymore.

Sorry for the long post and for my bad English. And thanks already for helping me!

edit: If i start the game now, my screen turns black and doesn't recover anymore. I have to hard reset my PC.

Answer:Black screen for a couple of seconds

try to check if the Graphic card fan aren't burned, i also have the same problem almost changed my graphic card at least to a $41 card, but try to change the thermal paste. if it not work try to replace the fan with its card spare parts (just search the market) or if you didn't find it just buy a CPU fan and stick it with glue to the old fan. Hope this help.

For no apparent reason when I power on the system the cpu fan spins the harddrive spins and all the aux fans but only for a couple of seconds then it turns off and tries to restart again. If I pull the P4 plug from the board the fans will then start and stay spinning. Im not really sure whats going on but any help would be good before I go out a buy something I dont need.
My specs are:

Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 board
Q6600 cpu
Asus 8600 GTX Silent graphics card
2 x 2Gb DDR2 800mhz Patriot Ram
500gb Seagate hdd
and a Sigma 500 watt PSU

Well my post is similiar to this http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1174407817I recently ordered parts and built a new computer about 4 days ago, however after I got everything hooked up and tried turning it on it would only come on for about 3 seconds and shut off.  The lights would come on fans would kick on then boom everything would shut off.  I was plugging it into a surge protector with a bunch of other stuff in it so I unplugged it and plugged it into the wall thinking perhaps it wasn't getting enough power.  Hooray it worked came on and everything.  From what the D-Bracket thing in the back was saying, everything was working properly, so I turned it off and unplugged it, planning on installing windows and everything the next day.  Well, after that plugging it into an outlet had the same effect as when I plugged it into the surge protector, only comes on for a couple seconds then shuts off.AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor MSI K9A Platinum Socket AM2 ATI CrossFire Radeon Xpress 3200 ATX AMD MotherboardRosewill RT550-135-SL 550W 135mm Fan SLI Ready - ATX V2.2/EPS12V Power Supply 115/230 V UL/CUL/CB/TUV/CESeagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard DriveCORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 ATI Radeon x1600 PRO video cardI've taken it apart 3 times now to check everything and as far as I can tell everything is connected ... Before i start, I am Running:

WinXP-Pro, Service Pack 3
2.22 GHz Athlon 64 3500+ Processor
2 Gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT Graphics Card

What appears to happen is that once in a blue moon, without any prior warning, the entire computer will lock up solid for about 15 seconds then black screen me and none of my input or output devices will work. That means, Mouse, Keyboard, sound, Monitors, etc. They all die simultaneously. The odd part is, the computer is still working as far as I can tell as the system doesn't even hiccup.

It WAS doing this more than it is now, however it seems to have reduced somewhat. I'm guessing that it has something to do with my power supply as me replacing the 350 watt supply with a 550 watt supply (for a completely different problem) seems to have reduced the occurence of this issue. Instead of happening once or twice a week it now happens once or twice every 2 or 3 weeks. It's still annoying when it happens. Anyone have any clue?

When you boot back into your machine...check the event logs and see whats happening just prior to the failure. If you can, check after a couple of occurrences and see if there are any similarities that might point you in the right direction. Anybody else have an idea?

I just received my new X1 Carbon yesterday. When I booted it up the first time the computer died after I set up username and password in Windows. Next time the same screen appeared but the username was ofcourse taken already. I logged into windows and the computer died. After 10-20 HDD checks the computer logs into windows and I can install some software (Visual Studio etc), but then it just dies again. Sometimes it can't even login to windows before it dies.  I've tried to format and reinstall windows but it doesn't help, sometimes I can use it for one hour, and sometimes just for 10 seconds.  I can't really say that I can see a pattern in this whether I'm using the AC chord or not.. I've also done a memory check and a harddrive check without any errors. I guess I have to return it and wait for a new one.. really disappointing =(  Any ideas Lenovo?

Answer:X1 Carbon randomly dies

>>  Sometimes it can't even login to windows before it dies.  When this happened to me on my PC a couple years ago, the problem was my one of my fans had died (either the power supply's fan or a system fan; can't remember which.) .  The system was shutting itself off as a defensive reaction to overheating.

Hello. I am in need of advice once again. I'm staying at my uncles house who uses Keyon internet service so its like broadband with some sort of dish? Anyways...

The speeds were pretty random and slow. Spikes of 3000 pings and averages of 600. Updated the firmware (7 years old) and average is under a hundred now. However the internet still just completely dies for random amounts of time... 2 seconds to a few minutes. Pings timeout to google or yahoo but not my router.

As far as the setup goes, there is a dish or antennae they have aimed a little dish on the roof towards a few miles away. The "modem" is in a plastic box attached to it. The cable runs into literally the cheapest "splitter adapter" ive ever seen, which wont work if you hook up the modem line into "data out" and the router line into "data in", which confuses me in the first place. Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Anyways, I tried wifi and wired connection. I didn't try to bypass the router completely but I don't think it will make a difference. I decided to get a ladder and look at the "modem" and I was a little shocked to say the least. I opened up the big plastic thing that stores it and it literally is just a piece of like motherboard mounted with one little screw, covered in ladybugs and cobwebs. So I sighed and just left it alone.

So now, average ping is very tolerable. 50-100. Speed is at about 2mbps which is fine. I just don... Read more

Question: Y500 randomly dies

Hello, Borught a y500 on amazon a few months ago, its runs great. However, the laptop suddenly just dies randomly, no blue screen, no shut down menu. It just dies, I reboot and check event viewer and its says it crashed(kennel-power). So then I checked for viruses, ran scans for chkdsk, sfc /scannow, and memory diagnostics, everything was fine. It also didn't overheat since the laptop died without gaming at all. The barrtery was plugged in as well I reset windows 8 just to check if its the OS's fault. It just died again today. If it's a hardware issue, what can I do to find out what component of hte computer is wonky? Would the limited warranty help me?

I installed ace mega codecs packs. that would let me view different cd's but this one I can't.

Hi everyone

Really strange thing is happening and i know it is my computer not my usb stick since i tried other usb sticks too.

I can't delete files from my usb sticks they keep reappearing.
Did try to format usb stick but it didn't help.

Any ideas?

thank you!

Answer:Usb avi files reappear couple of seconds after deleting them

That does sound suspicious.
Let's see what those little files are like.

Open Windows explorer (looking at the flash drive would do).
Press Alt.
Go to Tools.
Click Folder Options.
Click on the View tab.

You should see a section called Hidden Files and folders. Make sure that Show hidden files and folders is checked.
Make sure that Hide extensions for known file types is Unchecked.
Make sure that Hide protected operating system files is Unchecked.

Have a look at that flash drive. Please post back with the exact name of these files.
Please also check whether there are any new files there. Be particularly on the look out for any files named "autorun.inf"

Long Story short, I took a computer in for repair and ended up doing a complete overhaul. This left me with a nearly intact second computer that I figured would be a good candidate for my first home build. The parts I needed to replace were the PSU, HD, and video card.

Here are the specs on the system, including the newly added components, Also, a Note, I bought two sticks of Kingston 4GB DDR2-800 (2x2GB) as well:

Motherboard:Asus P5N32-E SLI
CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Quad-Core 2.66GHz
Ram: 2 x Kingston HyperX DDR2-800 2048MB
Video Card: SAPPHIRE 100292L Radeon HD 5450 (Cedar) 1GB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP
Sound Card:Creative X-Fi Extreme Gamer PCI
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARS 2TB
CD / DVD: Asus 20x DVD-RW (black) IDE
Case:Lian-Li PC7H+ w/ Window (black)
Power Supply: SeaSonic S12II 520 Bronze 520W

I have mounted all the components and I believe everything is hooked up correctly but when I power on the system shuts off after 1-2 seconds (the fans start up).

Thus far I have tried switching out RAM (and using only 1 stick), and removing all cables from MB except power.

Everything I have found through searching shows a bad PSU, however, as I mentioned the unit is brand new (althought maybe its a dud?).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Man i had this on my old computer before i upgraded now its decided to do it again.

I think the problem is unrelated to the previous times tho since (its been over 6 months and nothing) nearly every or indeed every vital component has changed since then as well as new OS.

This problem is excruciatingly frustrating cos unlike other thing you cant really work around it and it ceases up work workflow constantly.

In my previous thread someone suggested it may be overheating but my temps seem ok at 39 idle.

I also checked for defragging the drive but windows 8 syas its doing that automatically every week and they are only on 1% fragmented.

What else to try?

Howdy ....

Not sure what is going on .... ah .... HELP!

Answer:Solved: New Build Powers For A Couple of Seconds

take the motherboard out of the case and look at the heatsink pins at the back of the mobo, did u install it correctly?
make sure u dont have a xtra riser in the case shorting on the back of the mobo
do a out of case build on the mobo box and see if it will bootup

After I put the computer to sleep it sometimes wakes up a few seconds later. This leads to my leaving it on in the bag, which leads to a dead battery sometimes.

Any way to log what is waking the computer up so I can fix this?

It's most frustrating.

This is a dell E5530 with win 7 pro x86.

Answer:Computer will not sleep, wakes after a couple seconds.

You're running Windows I assume? Go in to your control panel, device manager, go through your devices' properties power settings and look for "Allow this device to wake the computer" and unckeck it for everything.

Hi,

hopefully someone's solved a similar problem to this, I had a wee search but couldn't see anything,

My PC, a self built Desktop with 2gb 800 memory, 500gb, 250gb and 120gb HDD, a DVD writer, Geforce 8600 (512mb) graphics, creative audigy 2 z5 sound, amd x2 5600+ and Vista Home Premium, seems to pause every few minutes for about between 10-30 seconds.

This happens mostly during games such as Dirt, Oblivion, Need for Speed Pro Street etc, although it sometimes happens if the PC is working heavily.

My initial thoughts are that this may be down to Virtual Memory loading or something along these lines, at present it's set for 2gb, although I've tried various settings with no real improvements, and it does get worse the higher I make it.

The games seam to run fine in between the pauses and look good enough at 1280 x 1024 and seem to carry on from the point it paused although I think the sound seems to continue. If it's a video or streamed video it seems to play the backlog very, very fast until it catches up.

has anyone any ideas what me be causing this? I think my drivers are all up to date etc and am a bit lost now,

thanks in advance,

Richard

Answer:PC Pauses every couple of minutes for about 20 seconds (mostly during games)

Some things to try;
1 Check your temps and post the findings here. Post both system and cpu temp

2 If you have the games installed to a different hard disk than the os disk, run the drive maker's utility on both drives.

3 Are these ide or sata drives?

4 Check that the drive have not reverted to pio mode rather than dma mode. Do this in device manager>atapi controller

To give a bit of a background - I had to change the mothboard of my system last month because of an incident of burnt PSU

Coming to the current situation - since the last few weeks, I have noticed that when I am viewing a video on fullscreen mode, I would often hear a system alert sound, like the one you get when you plug and unplug in a pendrive. It doesn't occur always though.

I immediately check the events viewer to see if it has logged anything, but no errors/ warning show up there that could describe what happened at that time.

Moreover, the screen often turns black for a couple of seconds and comes back to normal. Sometimes before it comes back to normal, I could see my screen changing to a much lower resolution and then back to the original one.

Again, nothing related to graphics or monitor in the event viewer.

My system specs:-

AMD FX - 6100 CPU
Asus M5A78L-M-USB3
AMD Radeon HD 5450 GPU
Corsair Vengance - 4GB x 2
CM B500 PSU
Corsair MX-100 - 256 GB SSD
Seagate - 7200 RPM - 500 GB
Seagate - 7200 RPM - 160 GB

This didn't start happening following a clean install, btw.

I have searched for updates to my graphic drivers, but found no new updates.

The monitor is quite old though - 6-7 yrs I guess.

What could be happening here?

Many thanks

Envy notebook brought in to our shop for not powering on. Starts to, but then dies in a couple seconds. Customer brought in a new systemboard. Installed it, but no change in symptom. Internal battery appears bad (half of it swollen), but same symptom with the battery disconnected. External power adapter not customer's but almost certainly good. Has right voltage and lot more amperage than spec. Amber light seen at laptop plug. Fan runs normally. RAM sticks swapped, replaced, no change. Tried hard drive, OS installed, no change. Tried hard drive, new, no OS installed, never got as far as error message about missing system files. Put original hard drive back. Sometimes, somehow, can get into BIOS. All settings seem correct. Somehow was able to get into and use hours-long HP diagnostics. EVERY TEST PASSED. Would seem to rule out systemboard, RAM and CPU, no? Ideas, please?

Setup:
Laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1705 from 2005, the router is a Linksys WRT120N, and the modem is a Motorola SB5101 SURFboard.

Problem:
I moved into a new place and I cannot connect to their wireless system. After calling the internet provider and router company, I can now connect via LAN just fine and to the wireless connection for only a couple seconds before it kicks me off and it does not reconnect. Everyone else can connect so there is nothing wrong with the modem or router.

Note:
a)There is a cordless phone and I have no idea what channel it is on
b) I have AVG's free virus scanner and malwarebytes
c) I can connect to other wifi hotspot
d) I am sitting underneath the router with full signal strength
e) WPA2
f) I do not have the username and password for the router

I have done the following to no avail:
1) Turned off the modem and router for a couple of minutes
2) Disable the firewall
3) ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
netsh int ip reset reset.log
netsh winsock reset catalog
4) Manually typed in the IP/DNS.
5) Turned the IP/DNS back to auto
6) Removed the network from the preferred list and added it in again

Not sure if I should post this here or the networking forum but I assume some nice patron will direct me to the correct place if I'm wrong.

For a while now, and for no apparent reason, my internet connection completely dies. But, it's only to my computer. My computer will slow down DRAMATICALLY, stuttering violently as I try to do anything. But if I restart my computer it comes back on as if no problem was ever there.

I am hooked through a router through an ethernet cable and my wife is connected to it wirelessly and she is never affected.

Is this an XP problem, hardware, or maybe even the hardwire ports of my router?

Help! =(

I've had  a X41 Tablet for about 2.5 years now.  Just recently in the past month it will randomly die on me, meaning it will lose all power (No shutdown screen, nothing).  If I try to turn it back on, nothing will happen.  If I plug in the AC adapter, still no power.  The only way I can get it to start back up is if I remove the battery, then place it back in forcefully or wiggle the battery around while it is back in the slot.  If it does restart, the battery is still charged like nothing had happened.  So  it isn't the battery losing it's charge.  I even tried putting another battery in from one of the X41 tablets in our office after the computer had died and it wouldn't start.  My thoughts are it has something to with the connection on the board.  Any other thoughts or ways to fix this? Thanks,JohnMessage Edited by cranjx on 06-11-2008 10:34 AM

I've had this laptop over a year now, and just recently I've noticed when I leave it on a while and come back, either the audio of the entire laptop will die, or online videos just won't play. After restarting it goes back to normal until a few hours later when it happens again. I'm not sure what to do here. Can anyone help me out?

Answer:Audio/Video randomly dies?

You are not alone with this problem, since the last windows 8 update there is sound problems with a lot of PCs. You can try this quick solution here :

You just need to enter to the Control Panel -> security and System -> System -> Device Manager

Then look for "sound, video and game controllers" put the cursor over it press right-click and select "scan for hardware changes"

3 secs after that you will have your sound working again, you gonna need to repeat this procedure every time the sound is gone in your PC and till now it always worked to me.

This should solve your problem for now, we need to wait for Microsoft's next windows 8 update, it hopefully will fix the problem in a more permanent way.

Greetings.

My computer has been randomly dying when i play graphic intense games. (Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, etc) The monitor says no signal and goes to standby and the sound plays the last sound playing for a few loops. I need to hold down the power button to turn it off. Sometimes after this happens the computer refuses to turn on afterwards, i would have to try a couple of times.

I have tried booting with only 1 of the 2 ram sticks (for both) and came with the same results. If the computer was already able to boot, it will. If it wasn't, it wont. I do not have an extra video card to test, and do not want to buy one until i know it REALLY is the problem.

Any input/ suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi!

My internet connection on my Vista machine dies after a few hours. If I restart, the connection will work again, but will die after a few hours again. I've used my computer with several different routers and for example in my friends' home network so I know the problem is in my computer because the internet connection always dies the same way. Usually if I'm listening music from my Spotify, that connection oddly stays on with that, same goes with some java based games like net poker and so on...messenger connection problem diagnostics say that problems are in the ports. Sometimes i've just been too tired to reboot and just kept doing something else with my computer without the internet connection then maybe an hour later the connection comes back to life. This problem is getting kinda old already that it's not funny anymore. Would appreciate if somebody had even a slight suggestion to repair this problem.

Well... I had a Win 7 Ultimate 64bit on this very machine (the one in my preferences) for almost 3 years until the moment when I said to myself: OK, time to refresh. And that only because my port 80 would die sometimes....sometimes thrice an hour for 10-15 min, sometimes twice a day. But it would happen every day. I re-installed with the hope it was just a bad Win installation but it happened again after just an hour in. What I tried? Well, I certainly tried a new router, but it didn't help. I knew it wouldn't since I also run Linux and OS X in home network and none is affected by this. I scanned old and new Win 7 with every possible malware finder, antivirus..etc. Even bought one (I have an "allergy" when it comes to A/Vs and such in general).. I went drastic today, I disconnected all devices (hdds, usbs, dvdroms, pcie) just to prove my point.. left a single 60 GB SSD with brand new win 7 with default drivers .. Took several hours but I still lost port 80 (it seems to be just port 80 since only browsers and windows LIVE are affected on my system)...Skype, FTP, rsync.. they'll all work just fine while nothing else web-wise does.

Help please! Any suggestions will be tested and reported.

What do you mean by "port 80 dies"? skype, ftp all works as you say. So not a tcp/ip routing/connection problem.

Got my X1 Carbon yesterday. Does have the loose clickpad. Worse issue - it would power down randomly - as in you are typing and suddenly it goes completely dead, as in "lights out" or someone pull the plug type dead. Also does not sleep properly - often when it goes to sleep it dies and you get an improper windows shutdown warning when you restart it. Happens both with AC power and battery power. Was on hold for 1.5 hours trying to reach a sales rep to make an exchange and got disconnected. Tried to do factory restore just to see what will happen but F11 on startup does not work. The notebook looks great but otherwise I can't say I am very happy with my experience.

Hi everyone, I've been having the same problem for months now and have finally decided to try to get some help after attempting multiple fixes. I use both a wired connection and wireless connection on my new laptop depending on where I am in the house (if I'm hooked up to my docking station its wired, otherwise i'll be on the wireless). The wired connection works fine, but the wireless connection will often completely die on me without any apparent cause. I'm pretty sure the problem is with my laptop due to the following reasons:

1) My dad uses the same connection when he works from home, and told me he doesn't have any problems with it.
2) Just for testing services, I tried using a neighbors WiFi connection, and received the same results.

I've tried changing my DNS server between OpenDNS, Google's DNS, etc. and have not had any luck. I made sure my wireless cards weren't sleeping by un-checking 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. I uninstalled Hamachi to make sure it wasn't messing up any of my settings and still had the same problems. I've updated all my drivers and even re-installed them.

Just to describe what exactly happens during these disconnects, any live connections prior to the point where the internet disconnects stay alive (usually, such as Skype calls, AIM connections, certain games, etc.) and will stay open until closed. Web pages behave in a similar fashion, and in fact will ... Read more

I've just bought the components for a new PC, and a friend has built it for me. Everything works fine for hours at a time, I can be playing games, browsing the internet, whatever. Then all of a sudden the PC cuts out, exactly as it would in a power cut, except for an almighty fan noise that kicks in and stays on until I hold the power button down to force the power off. When I say an almighty fan noise, I mean the loudest noise I've ever heard a PC make. I thought it was a hair-dryer turning itself on in the room the first time it happened.

Temperature doesn't seem to be an issue, everything's always around 40 degrees, and before I took it home the guy who built it stress tested it for hours up to 90 degrees without any problem. It has always cut out during web browsing (never whilst gaming) although that's probably just a coincidence.

Any suggestions? I literally have no clue whatsoever, what with being somewhat PC illiterate.

Then it reoccurs. This happens randomly on some T420's, while other T420's doesnt encounter it never-ever. Any tips how to troubleshoot this one? I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5547 running Win 8.1. Every now and then the scroll feature (two fingers vertical swipe to scroll the screen), and the two finger tap for right click, will stop working. When this happens, all the other features on the touchpad seem to work. If I restart the laptop it starts working again. I've tried going into services.msc and setting 'Human Interface Devices" to automatic startup, but it doesn't help. There's something else pretty weird also... When I go into the system tray (lower right), right click the touchpad icon, and select Touchpad Properties, it takes me into the Dell Pointing Devices windows. Inside this window, there is a sliding switch to disable the touchpad. When I disable it, the touchpad still works. Weird. Does anybody have any ideas how I can get this sorted out. I'm also using a wireless USB mouse on the same laptop, not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Answer:Touchpad scroll dies randomly

Hi Jools

Personally I would look to see what touchpad driver version you are using and then either update it with an in-place update, or uninstall (my favourite option, then install new driver) the current driver and then re-install, as it may just be a slight corruption.

Latest driver HERE
Also a thought, when the touchpad stops with the scroll feature, had your laptop been left not used for a period of time, like hibernation?

For the past couple of days my computer has been freezing every time I open a new program or go to click on something. Using itunes is especially problematic because i will be listening to music and every thirty seconds the music will stop and continue, etc. I use Avast! free for protection and I have done every scan without them finding a virus, however they do get a couple of files they cannot scan and each time they are different files. I am not very tech savvy so I have no clue how to go about searching for the fix, however while searching through google i did find a lot of people had this problem with windows xp.

I own a Sony Vaio VPCEG32FX/W and have 142 GB used memory.
Programs i have installed are Photoshop CS5, Finale Notepad, Itunes, Last.fm, Firefox, Windows Live Messenger, The Sims 3, Avast!, Avidemux 2.5, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Winrar, and VLC mediaplayer

As the headline says ive run into a weird problem on my PS4 (not PC sorry). If the system is on and im plugging the USB in to charge my joystick, my tv goes black for a couple of seconds. Doesnt happen every time but like every 4 time or so.

What can cause this? Its worth to note, that it happens as soon as the USB touches the port, so its not even insertet fully when it happens. It also happens when i pull the USB out? I have checked the HDMI and its not wiggly or anything.

The PS4 is only 1 week old. I have no clue to what this can be and im afraid ive got a "monday" model..

Hope anyone can help! cheers

Answer:Plugging Usb In Makes Screen Go Black For A Couple Of Seconds

Hi

If it was a PC then my train of thought to the issue would be a short at the USB contacts, and this is likely to be the same as your PS4, could also just be a slight interference is signal, what happens if with the PS4 off you plug everything in you need, then book the machine?

I note its only one week old, if bought new then its under warranty so I would take it back as you say could just be a faulty one, but I'm not a PS4 user, so i'd wait to see if one of our members who is a PS4 user has come across this before taking the machine back

I take its its not staying black other than the few seconds?

I'm having WIFI connection issues with a Sony Vaio VGN-FW140E Laptop. After a connection is established it will randomly stop working.

The network adapter is a Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN using driver version 14.3.0.6

I have also tested the connection with a Cisco Valet AM10 WIFI USB adapter and received the same results.

All other devices connected wirelessly are not experiencing any connection problems.
EDIT: I just noticed that when the Vaio is connected my other laptop starts experiencing the same connection timeouts.

Ping 10.0.0.2 -t results on the other laptop when the Vaio is connected to wifi

Answer:Solved: WIFI connection loss every couple of seconds

change the channel on the router to use wireless channel 1 - just in case its interference - unlikely - but you do have another weaker signal also on channel 6 an 8 also overlaps

can we see an ipconfig /all from the other PC and the Vaio

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Hi,

My PC often lags for a few seconds every now and then. The lag last only for a split second. While playing a video or audio, the sound drags for a split second. Further, my PC freezes while playing games. This has no pattern and happens at random.
I checked the eventvwr and found the following error:

Quote:

Faulting application name: daemonu.exe, version: 1.0.21.0, time stamp: 0x4db0cb56
Faulting module name: daemonu.exe, version: 1.0.21.0, time stamp: 0x4db0cb56

Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA Updatus\daemonu.exe
Report Id: f768dd58-1d7b-11e5-8e06-14feb5bdf811

I do not know if the problem and this error are related.

My PC specs are:
Model: Dell XPS
2.4 Ghz I-5 processor
8GB RAM
64Bit operating system.
Nvidia Geforce GT 525M graphic card.
Microsoft Security Essentials anti virus.

Any sort of help would be appreciated !!!

Answer:Windows 7 lags for a couple of seconds and crashes often while gaming

The two most logical causes are dying hard drive and underpowered psu further degrading. It would be the easiest to run checkdisk/r on the drive to check it.
If it fails to complete, repairs many bad sectors, or simply takes forever it probably needs replacement.
Using Windows 7, how do I run CHKDSK? - Microsoft Community
The psu probably needs replacement anyway and to buy a tester of decent quality is at least 1/2 the price of a new psu anyway.

I recently had to restore a backup of the System Hive in order to boot up my PC. Please see MS link on process: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;269075

After completing the backup I need to go into the registry and try to reduce the size of the system hide. Unfortunately I the regedit widow will only stay open for a couple of seconds. I am running Win2K. Any suggestions on how I can get the window to stay open indefinitly?

Thanks,

Marco

Answer:REGEDIT in Win2k won't stay open for more than a couple of seconds

Typically this is either a virus or spyware. Might want to start scanning for both.

I just installed my new computer and Youtube videos play a couple seconds on it then stop.  I'm using Firefox.  For each video I get the message: "An error occurred, please try again later."  I have tried all eight suggested fixes listed by Youtube:
Try again after 30 minutes
In most cases, the video should start working again in about 30 minutes. If that doesn’t work, try the following tips.

Reload the page
On many browsers, you can press the F5 key or Command+R keys on your keyboard to reload the current page.

Change your video’s quality
Click the gear icon in the corner of the video player and select a lower quality setting, like 240p or 360p. Wait for the buffer bar to start loading before clicking play in the video player.

Close other tabs or windows
If you have multiple tabs or windows open in your browser, try closing them.

Upgrade your browser
If you'd like the best YouTube viewing experience, upgrade to the most recent version of your browser.

Update your Flash Player
Some videos on YouTube are streamed through Adobe Flash Player, a plug-in for your web browser, so make sure to update to the latest version.

Turn on JavaScript
JavaScript is required for many features to work. Make sure JavaScript is enabled on your browser.

Clear your cache and cookies

My laptop screen blanks every 15 minutes or so.... I can then bring it back with a touch to the mousepad.

I did a W8> W10 upgrade and everything else seems to work okay. I did have to re-install the internal
wireless adapter, but otherwise and excellent upgrade.

Anyone else seeing this behavior? Any ideas on how to fix it??

My machine is a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro

Thank you!

Hello!
First of all, excuse my bad English!

Now to the question.
I have an odd issue with Windows Vista ultimate x64!
I have had this before I reinstalled vista but not this frequent as it is now.

The symptom is that everything freezes for a couple of seconds,The hard disk led turns dark while this happens. The mouse cursor still works but everything else is froze.
I can hear a click sound from the hard drive before everything goes back to normal!

Often when i try to access diffrent discs in windows explorer it take ages to access them!Completly random,Sometimes i can access them without any delay but sometimes one or two will take 10sec or more to show the content. Then windows explorer freezes but all other stuff works,i can start applications.

I have 4 hard drives installed on my machine, and I have tried 3 of these as C: but this issue has always turned up in Vista

I have tried Windows 7 and I have not had this issue in windows 7.However, it felt slow, so I went back to Vista again!

I have not installed any raid drivers,I run all hard drive as individual discs.

I have the latest Bios installed !
I have the latest drivers installed!
I have used Check disc with the repair otion without any errors shown up!
I have set all drives to use Advaced disc performance

Answer:Hard disk random freeze for a couple of seconds

I read your problem and the symptom that is the most troubling is the tick. When a hard drive is about ready to fail, it gives a clicking sound (the click of death). May I suggest that you go to the website of your hard drive manufacturer and test your hard drive. The first thing is to back up all your important documents. You do not want to lose that valuable picture of you during the best vacation of yourlife etc.
