Avast Web Shield Working Overtime

Question: Avast Web Shield Working Overtime

Greetings all! I apologize if this isn't the right place for this! I'm trying to help my boss get his computer squared away and I'm having issues with Avast Web Shield popping up constantly. As of the typing of this message, it seems to have slowed down a little bit, but I want to make sure the problem is solved and that there is not going to be any issues going forward for him!

I would try to do something myself, but every time I've searched anything online about this, it says that every case is different and that solutions only work in that particular situation.

Preferred Solution: Avast Web Shield Working Overtime

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Avast Web Shield Working Overtime

You have the option to turn off the Web Shield permanently according to the info in link below.

I have gotten an error message from Avast when downloading email.

The message says that Avast mail shield cannot scan the emails because
I have an SSL secure connection configured in the mail client, Outlook Express 6.

Both incoming and outgoing server ports have "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" ticked ON.

I think this setting may be required for att.yahoo.com servers. :confused

Should I just disable the mail guard in Avast?

Thanks

I am having a problem in my sister's laptop. She does have antivirus installed (AVG Internet Security). However, its license expired, so I downgraded it to free version. After, downgrading it, I installed Avast! as it's antivirus and decided to uninstall AVG. Then, a few minutes ago after rebooting the laptop, a window opened saying that Trojan is infecting my computer, I heal it.. Then, another pops out. Heal and heal and heal..

After doing it, I rebooted the laptop thinking that it will refresh the system. Unfortunately, after rebooting, I cannot connect to Internet now. :cry :cry :cry Help me please? I already performed the Malware removing however, it did not help the laptop. I attached the files you asked me.. Please, help please? Thank you!

Computer: Dell Dimension 9200; Vista. there are times that the hard drive (which is noisy anyway) suddenly seems to burst into manic activity and everything else slows down to a snail's pace; it will even 'spring out' of sleep to do this. How do I find out what's going on? I can't understand Task Manager and I've not found any software that actually identifies what the computer is doing in plain english so that I can decide what to do about it. Is there something like that out there?

Answer:Hard drive is working overtime but on what?

One way of solving this is to add more memory, appears to be due to disk space being under 100mb, what memory do you have installed?...

Answer:hard drive working overtime

Pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL keys (Windows Task Manager) will allow you to see what processes are running at that time, look for the process with the highest CPU usage when the computer is slowed down.

Get an idea of what processes are at this page:

Hello! First time poster here! Hope I am posting to the right thread!

I usually try to resolve my computer problems by googling and trial and error but when it comes to buying extra equipment I really don't want to be ripped off! I have just got a new laptop and started re playing Portal. When I play the game the underside of the computer becomes very hot and the fan works overtime. As soon as I stop playing things go back to normal. I guess this is because the game is making the laptop work harder?! I don't want to burn out my new laptop and I have read that I can get an external cooling system but I am not sure if it is worth it. The other option is to get a better graphics card for my desktop (as it won't play Portal 2 and is very glichie on minecraft) Which is the better option/easier/cheaper/will work better?!

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Fan working overtime when playing Portal!

Welcome to TSG!

Yes, the heat is from gaming. Games will tax a system very hard.
My laptop is built for gaming and you should feel the heat this thing blows out the back.

Many standard laptops aren't built with that kind of cooling in mind, but should handle it. If anything it will probably shut down and or reboot if it overheats.
If a graphics card is all you need to play portal on your desktop then playing games there would have better cooling. however, the freedom of taking a game with you is hard to part with.
Cheaper would be to try a cooling pad. Google "laptop cooling pad", the shopping results show some from $10 to $35. Just read as many reviews you can about the ones you like.
Don't know the size of your laptop but good reviews of "Cooler Master Notepal U3 Notebook cooling pad" for larger 17-19" laptops. around $35 at newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997872

My vote is to try a cooling pad, as watching videos will also heat up a laptop, though not as much as games.
If you decide to become a "gamer" (higher end new games) I would build or find a system designed for gaming.

I had this problem a few months ago, and after a short time everything seemed to returned to normal.Whilst the computer is working, everything seems fine, then suddenly the hard drive shows sign of high activity. This doesn't seem to interfere with the actual viewing and switching over web pages and sites. But it is becoming rather concerning and disruptive due to activity noise and led flashing light.Tried the usuals of Anti-spy, Anti-Virus, CCleaner, Defrag and RegScrub etc, everything seems to come up fairly clean.Any ideas of what to try next?.

Answer:Hard Drive working overtime!

My pc used to do this and now it's Ok, possibly as a result of advice in these pages, but I can't remember exactly what.I think its to do with automatic disk cleanup performed by Windows periodically. Either that or Windows indexing service.Sorry to be so vague

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone out there may have some ideas about this. My PC boots fine, but once I'm at the desktop and the icons have all appeared it takes forever to open Firefox, and then forever to do anything else. All the time the HDD sounds like it's still booting up, or doing a scan. I've found no viruses, I've removed some malware, and the anti-virus software is all up to date. After 20 mins or so, it seems to sort itself out, the HDD goes quiet and it's all ok. System idle process is the highest process shown in task manager, and the CPU is running at around 3%.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any suggestions anyone might have......

Answer:PC very slow after boot, with HDD working overtime

have you looked in msconfig , sthe startup tab to see if there is too much junk starting at bootup? go to start button click on run and type in msconfig. then click the startup tab to look at what isloaded at bootup. post back with you findings... something or things are cointinuing to run in the background.

I logged on to my dialup account this morning, synchronised my PDA, received one or two emails and then checked my last thread on this discussion board.All wa normal except for the fact that the little pair of computers in the system tray continued to show continuous activity for about 3 minutes. It's stopped now but should I be concerned.I run all the usual security stuff and updated it all on Saturday. I would welcome comments.T

Answer:Connection appears to be working overtime

Could have been any number of things, most like non-malevolent: automatic updating of your anti-virus program (Avast has had a fairly major update in the last day or two) or Windowsupdate downloading something to take two examples.Do you have a firewall installed? If so, take a look at its logs.

Since yesterday every time I open Outlook Express I receive all emails from the previous few days, plus the current day's lot. Thus constantly increasing the amount that downloads. It has now reached the ridiculous total of almost 1500. I haven't altered any settings to trigger this. I've tried everything I can think of, including deleting the Pop3uidl.dbx fle to stop it, but in vain. Suggestions welcomed.

Go into your mailbox at your ISP supplier and delete everything there, and make sure you haven't ticked any options to forward or copy emails.

I really like Avast AV very much. I have a question about the Web Shield part of the program. On the program itself, generally 6 of the 7 modules are running. I do not have Outlook or MS Exchange so for that area the program says, "The Program is Waiting for a Subsystem to Start." (or something like that.)

About once a month, maybe twice a month, I will notice 5 of the 7 providers running and the program will have one of the Web Shields running. However, it will say, "The Program is Waiting for a Subsystem to Start." (instead of saying, "The Provider is currently running." The funny part is that when I go to webpages and do a check, the Web Sheld is still scanning them. So on the Web Shield thing, what is Avast waiting for?

This is a common issue with the program based on Internet Searches. I don't know if this is a bug or the way that Avast 4.8 works. Can you also provide information about the two different shields that the program uses? One is the Web Shield, the other is called the P2P Shield.

The updates are working fine. Oh, it hasn't happend often enough, but so far the only way that I can get the Web Shield back to not saying, "The Program is Waiting for a Subsystem to Start." is to do a reboot.

Thanks for your time.

I just installed Antivir and felt naked without a web shield, so I reinstalled everything in Avast! except the standard shield.

In theory, this should work, however the apps froze on startup, so I set Avast! to launch after all other applications load and they seem to like each other now.

What I'm here to ask is whether this should theoretically cause any problems.

Please don't reply with, "OMG YOU ONLY NEED ONE ANTIVIRUS" because I am only running one antivirus. My reasoning for running both apps is so that the Avast! web shield will take effect during browsing, and Avira will handle everything locally. The issue I have with using Avast! for everything is that it seems to constantly scan all my files, without letting me set it to just "scan on application read/write" which causes major slowdowns.

Hello!

Brand new computer (well, used, but new to me) and the same old virus problems.

The Avast Behavior Shield turns itself off every time I hit "Connect" on VZAccess manager during the last 24 hours. Avast does warn me that it's off and I click it back on manually. Says it's back on, but I have my doubts.

Particularly as when I tried to surf eBay, the website suddenly thought I lived in the Czech Republic. Yeah, I've changed my eBay password and my PayPal on a friend's clean computer already.

So here's the DDS log with the ATTACH, err, attached.

As many of you are aware Avast and AVG are 1 company now. Cause development of 2 different UIs takes different time, in this beta we introduce Ransomware shield in AVG beta now. You can expect Ransomware shield in Avast in next betas.

If you wanna try Ransomware protection in AVG build, check this link:

Answer:Finally,the ransomware shield in avast

Good, but why they need a whole new tiny shield for stopping an exploit and this has to go through beta and be delivered after tests!? There are firewalls for blocking ports like the Windows Firewall and the Avast one in paid solutions. Maybe it is a sign that they need something like Norton's IPS?

I recently went from Avast 4.8 to Avast 5 and am pleased with the new version. I note that it has a Behavior Shield and can't recall if the earlier version also had. What I would like to know is this: does the Behavior Shield make Threatfire, which I also use, redundant?

Unfortunately, although I tried to glean an answer from Avast's Help Center, I do not know enough about computers to know what the description there of the Behavior Shield amounts to: it 'monitors all activity on your computer and detects and blocks any unusual activity that might indicate the presence of malware. It does this by continuously monitoring your computer's entry points using special sensors to identify anything suspicious.'

I have XP, SP 3.

Thanks in anticipation.

Answer:Avast 5's Behavior Shield and Threatfire

Behavior shield - monitors all activity on your computer and detects and bloxks any unusual activity that might indicate the presence of malware. It does this by continuously monitoring your computer's entry points using special sensors to identify anything suspicious.avast! 5.0 Quick User GuideThreatFire monitors your machines activity and uses an intelligent behavioral engine to alert you about malicious behavior rather than rely on signatures. - How ThreatFire WorksAs such there will be some redundancy using both but their technology is different and therefore, what is detected may vary.

the behaviour shield is yet not improved....

i still see the shield is not yet fully operational on auto decide it should be able to block atleast 50% of malware beahviour atleast...

i see the behav shield records suspicious events but doesnt block them neither no alerts are displayed....why??

I saw all this in my tests...behav shield records suspicious events but doesnt display a pop-up and neither blocks it....

when avast sees something bad is suspicious is going on it should block it....what's the deal with that??

Answer:no improvement in avast 7 for behaviour shield.

Likely Behavior Shield uses heuristics analysis so therefore a file that's known to be malicious/suspicious will popup so for Sandbox feature too.

When its set to ask a behavior popup must shown with the option.

Hello,

My son got into some bad stuff which led me to this forum a few months back. After some research I went with Avast Anti Virus (free version), Malware Bytes (paid version), and Comodo Firewall (free version). I have had a lot of slow behavior when surfing and doing email. The cursor is unstable and I cannot type things without a long wait. I turned of the Avast Behavior Shield and everything is a lot better. What have I lost turing off this feature? There are still several other Avast Shields running along with the Malware Bytes and Comodo.

Any suggestions? Should I try a different AV program?

Thanks,

Dave

Answer:Avast 5 Behavior Shield Slows Down XP?

hello daveplaysbass,The behaviour shield is a bit of a mystery! There's quite a few questions about it on the Avast forums and no real answers. I think the guys on there have been waiting for months for a 'promised' explanation from an Avast official. Found out a few things tho. This is a quote from an interview with a Avast official ...."The Behavior Shield that we shipped in version 5.0 is a new component that is going to be further developed moving forward. For example, in version 5.1, we will be adding more sensors that will allow for even finer-grain filtering.For now, the Behavior Shield is focused on exploits coming via typical mechanisms (browser, PDF reader, and flash vulnerabilities, for example). It also closely monitors all kernel-mode code (drivers) loaded into the operating system, and is able to detect zero-day rootkits."So whilst it's new and not operating at it's fullest potential, it still is an important part of Avast!It's not supposed to use hardly any system resources, but a few people have had problems with it conflicting with other software. One person had the problem of it conflicting with the 'Payed' version of Malwarebytes. And thats interesting because my set up is the same as yours, Avast(free), Comodo firewall(free) but i have the Free version of Malwarebytes, and i have no problems with conflicts.Its worth checking to see if there's any information in the Behaviour Shield report( at the bottom of the Behaviour shield page) in th... Last April, a gentle person from Europe helped someone with this same problem.  I tried to follow the advice, but find I need some help. What I've done: 1)  Run Malwarebytes software daily.2)  Uninstalled Avast and reinstalled it.3)  Installed IE 11.4)  Have trouble with downloads.  I get Current Security settings do not allow download.  I've gone into Internet Options and attempted to change all settings to allow file downloads.  I accomplished this once, but then it does not last.5)  I've run Tweaking.com, Windows Repair All-in-one. The Avast Web Shield is still popping up. Thanks for any help!Edit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum.~ Animal

Good day,

I've been getting a lot of alert from avast as per the topic title. The specifics of it are as below

Object: hxxp://69.65.5.105/ (Changed tt to xx in the URL for obvious reason)
Infection: URL:Mal
Process: C:\Program Files (x86)\FileZilla Server\FileZilla Server.exe

Avast will keep on alerting me at a very random interval. sometimes as often as once every 4-5 minutes. When I stop the FileZilla Server service, the alert will stop too. As soon as I start the service again, avast will immediately start alerting me again. One peculiar things I have noticed since avast started alerting me on this is that I cannot download any file directly from the browser (Chrome, Firefox) anymore. I started noticing this one when I wanted to download DDS.

Anyway, I've got my hand on the DDS software from another PC. Unfortunately running the software gave me the following error message

"DDS is not meant to run in 'Compatibility Mode'. The program shall now exit."

Thus I'm not able to produce the logs to accompany this post. By the way, I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit). I'm pretty sure I'm infected and any help will be much appreciated.

Q. 1.There is a Heuristic Scale and Test Whole file box in File shield.
Should I Scale up it to high (from normal) and check the "Test whole File" box, for better protection?

Q 2. There are two tabs in File Shield settings, "Scan when opening" and "Scan when Writing"
Should I tick the Scan All files in both Opening and Writing for better Protection? (It will scan all files that are being opened or written in the system but there will be negative impact that IDC)

Q. 3. Should I tick "All Packers" or go with Default packers.

Q. 4. Should I activate Avast Aggressive Hardened mode because I don't like Voodooshield as it shows its Pro Version Advertisement in every Startup which is too much annoying for me.

So basically I only installed the behavior shield from the avast installation wizard. I was thinking having Kaspersky as my main AV along with avast's behavior blocker is a good set up. However, admittingly I am a novice, and I don't know if these two will clash. So far, everything seems to be going smoothly, but the WD notification icon is displaying that X and is saying I shouldn't have more than one AV installed. Thanks.

Answer:Using Kaspersky free with only Avast Behavior Shield installed.

I personally think it should work ok running these 2 programs if Avast is only enabled for behavior blocking.

Hello!

I installed Avast recently and have the premium trial version of it at the moment. Every so often, there's a notification that pops up with "Avast! Web Shield has blocked a harmful webpage or file", and some random website. It notifies that it's running through Chrome even when I'm not currently running it (I'm mostly using Firefox). I believe my computer may be infected because I started seeing ads that appear normally where they shouldn't (with a description like ads by deall2ddeualit), and some Firefox addons that enabled these ads that were installed without me knowing about it.
Somewhat related, I allowed a scan from Avast of the computer files while it was booting up and accidentally unplugged the power which turned off the computer mid scan. When I booted it up again, I was entered into something like a temporary account where all my saved documents were pretty much gone. After another reboot, it did the same thing except now it stated that the copy of windows was not genuine. And after a third reboot, everything seemed restored. However, it feels as though start up is somewhat slow now. I'm not quite sure what happened here.
I'm not quite sure where to start, but I believe I need to provide a log? How do I go about doing that?

Hello Guys,
My system:
Toshiba  / Satellite C55-A   /  Intel ® Celeron  ® N2820
64 bit Windows 8.1
I am at the end of my rope. I have tried everything. First, let me say I am not good at technical things on a computer, just enough to be dangerous. So if some things I say seem crazy, they probably are.  So here is the story. About a week ago I received a email on my go daddy webmail.  www.login.securserver.net. That is how I long into that email. Now, that is not my main email. My main email is gmail, which I use the most.
The email I received on the go daddy email was a Notice of Apperance in Court #00406341. It contained a zip file,  Court Notification 00406341.zip.   Of course being stupid, I unzipped the file, thinking it was something important, since I have some court cases ongoing for business.
With research  I think it is a Kuluoz or another one that starts with  A.  cant remember.
It put a zip file in my downloads folder  Court_Notification_00406341.doc, which shows as File Type: Java Script file, 8.84kb.  That is the only one I noticed, not sure if they are more somewhere.  Then things started getting a little weird. Nothing major, I still get emails, still send them, and my system seems to be running normally, except for Avast Mail Shield security exclusions ,  It keeps poping up at least 40 times a day, saying

Now, here I used to get different info, like websit... Read more

hi,

We will start with FRST to remove some items from the log.

Usually Iam only on this site once or twice per day so you may not get a reply from me until the next day.

Copy/paste whats below in the box into notepad. Save it as fixlist.txt in the same location you have FRST, your desktop. Click the FRST icon like before and this time click on the fix button just once. When done you will find a fixlog on your desktop. Please post the fixlog in your reply. Machine may reboot to finish the process.

Working on a computer with 32-bit Vista. Windows Updates appear to be stuck - any updates are rolled back with the error of them "not being configured properly". Tried Googling and trying individual update solutions, but no luck.

PC had Microsoft Security Essentials installed, I removed it and installed Avast. Although Avast installs, the Web shield appears to be permanently disabled.

I have run Adwcleaner, Malwarebytes Anti-malware and Eset online scanner.  A few low-level threats were found and cleaned, but nothing has changed with the symptoms above.

Thanks for the help!

I recently had to restore from a system image (full restore of C:\ drive where my program and system files are kept, no changes to D:\ so my personal files weren't reset, and probably some temp files and preferences weren't either) and after doing so, and then reinstalling avast onto this system image (the image was made at a time when I had a different antivirus) I encountered a problem with firefox which seems to be something to do with conflicts with it and avast.
Immediately after the system imaging firefox worked fine, and immediately after avast's installation avast worked fine too. The I updated both of them to the latest state, restarted and logged back on. This time when I opened avast to go to google I got a warning about a certificate on google's page being unrecognised (Unfortunately I can't remember the exact wording), But I was able to follow some of the options on the dialogue brought up by firefox and see a certificate related to avast was causing the issues. I tested by temporarily disbaling avast's web and mail shields and opening firefox again, that time it went to google.co.uk without issues. I turned the web and mail shields of avast back on and I got the same certificate problem again.
Eventually I used the "I know the risks button" in firefox and created an exception, which I think might not have been the best way to solve this. Because I still had problems loading other https pages (for exmaple the links to google plus or gmail from the google home pa... Read more

I keep getting messages from avast saying it is blocking a webpage or file. My task manager shows there are a lot of processes running. My computer is acting really slow now, and it started making buzzing noises, and on startup the fan is making an incredible racket as well. Malwarebytes hasn't found anything. What should I do? I saw other people post, but there were warnings not to repeat these things.

Each warning has three fields, object: infection: and Process:
usually says http;//f0fff0...... or fa8072 or maybe go.wymedia

infection is always url mal
 and process is generally windows syswow64/dllhost or program files....iexplores/exe

As in the other posts my laptop restarted itself last night and since then whenever I have been connected to the internet I keep receiving notifications from Avast saying that a threat was blocked:

Infection:URL:Mal

Process:C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe

The notifications are all the same and come in pairs(two at a time), I have tried following this guide with no luck (http://necroneurology.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-EASILY-remove-the-svchostexe-Trojan)

If anyone has anytime to help out I would be really grateful.

Answer:Avast realtime shield constantly pops up infections when connected to internet

Hello and welcome.  Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I’ve given you the “All clear.”  Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean!Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within five days this thread will be closed.   Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.Press Scan button.It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

I have a problem similar to this post ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/531503/avast-web-shield-has-blocked-a-harmful-webpage-or-file-coming-up-all-the-time/ ) and was hoping for some help.

2 or three days ago I started having frequent messages from Avast! about harmful pages.
Ex. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=mt76m0&s=8#.U5n3YfldWSo

The gist of the message is:

Object: hxxp://getmeegan.info/?e=svon&publisher=1091&dd=4&country=US&ind=531952001116606

Infection: URL:Mal

Process: C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe

Avast! takes me to this page when I click more details on the pop-up: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=epoho6&s=8#.U5n4VPldWSo

The messages information have been consistent, the same Object, Infection type, and Process.

My laptop has been fine except I get constant messages from Avast causing me to worry.

Thank you for reading this.

Hello! Hope I'm in the right place!

Last night I was just playing RuneScape and had two safe webpages open, when suddenly my computer restarted on its own for no reason. After restarting, I logged back in and now my Avast! keeps popping up saying that it has blocked a malicious URL, even when I'm not using the internet. Here is what it says:

avast! Web Shield has blocked a harmful webpage or file

Object: (Various, I will post pictures)

Infection: URL:Mal

Process: C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe

I have ran Malwarebytes, Rkill, aswMBR, and Avast, all have come up clean except Malwarebytes, I will post my logs for aswMBR and Rkill as I do not know how for Avast! and every time I try to export my log for MBAM it keeps crashing.

This isn't affecting my computer's performance, other than the MBAM thing, but it is very annoying and I hope someone can help me solve this issue.

I've got something screwy going on with my home WinXP box, and I'm hoping someone here can point me in the direction of a solution to the problem.
I'm running XP Home, Service Pack 2, on a machine with (according to the properties tag) 960MB RAM. I've been running Avast antivirus, and allowing it to update definitions automatically. At the time this incident happened, the most recent update it had acquired was from yesterday morning.
There was a power outage at my house yesterday morning, lasting for ~2 minutes. I powered the system back on after that, and everything appeared to be working; I mention this merely for completeness of information.
The first symptom of my problem occured yesterday afternoon. I heard the little 'ding' sound made by a download finishing, during a time where I had no downloads running, and within a few minutes of this, my system seemed to grind to a halt. Anything I already had running would continue to work, but I couldn't open anything new, including the windows task manager, nor could I get new pages to load in the copy of Firefox I was running. I was planning to visit my parents' house at that point, so I powered the system down and took it with me. I had to manually power the system down (done via the on/off switch just above the power cable socket); the attempt to shut the system down fell victim to the same halt as everything else.
For the record, I may have had Spider Solitare up when I heard the ding, an... Read more

I have looking at my network shield in Avast! Pro. I've noticed that whenever I open save file prompt I see http://127.0.0.1.:5357/767aa349-1aa1...-01eb939773ce/ spike.
It does not indicate infection and just goes on, is this stuff normal?

Malwarebytes doesn't see anything wrong. I generally get a http://192.168.1.1:5678/igd.xml spike precedes the 127... spike

Avast boot scan also finds nothing
Typing http://127.0.0.1.:5357/767aa349-1aa1...-01eb939773ce/ into Run gets "Bad Request - Invalid Hostname

HTTP Error 400. The request hostname is invalid."
Can anyone else on Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit try this for themselves?

Open a save file prompt and look at your network shield at the same time and see if that connection or a similar connection shows up.

I don't seem to have any weird issues otherwise.

I have attached the DDS stuff

Hi,

I've just installed Avast! free antivirus on my Windows 7 PC. The installation installed something called the Mail Shield. Is there any point in having this turned on if I only access my emails using Yahoo's webmail service? Does it only scan mail if I use a client such as Windows Live Mail 2011?

Thanks in Advance!

Answer:Do I need the Avast Free Mail Shield if I use Yahoo Mail online

You don't need it if you are using a web based mail like yahoo. You can do a custom install of avast and untick the mail shield.

I have tried to find some information about my problem on this forum, but I have had no luck...
Here is my problem: I have used Win7 for a long time, and I have reinstalled at leas 3-4 times because of "bluescreen" -- now is there another issue that drives me nuts. The sound of the fan on full speed all the time, and the fact that the system started some few days ago to work very slow.... I have found that there is a process called "searchFilterHost.exe" used by System that are "killing" my computer.. I have tried to end the process, but it just restart the next second. See the screenshot, and you will see the process - as well as the cpu's are on 100% while the ram is about 56% usage -- the "searchfilterhost.exe" is all the time using about 50% of all cpu capasity - so when using other software the computer is soooo hot and overworked... Is there any solution to get this process closed ? and alsom what does it do ? most important, could I just delete the file in the folder of windows just to stop it ?
Thanks in advance for all help!

Answer:CPU working "overtime"

Never go deleting system files by hand!

You can turn off the search service or turn off indexing on your drives.

OR you can let it go for several hours (probably across a few days) and it SHOULD settle down to being unnoticable, but it is initially going to index all your drives for instant search capability.

I have to say it IS an annoying thing to have to put up with the first week after install. I wish they would have made that service a lot more "background".

Hi, hope some kind person can help. Had problems with PCGuard (Virgins Security) tried to uninstall and then reinstall. Didn't work. Contacted Virgin (15 mins on phone to India)and then they told me my install shield application wasn't working and to take my computer to a shop and they would repair it. Is this my only option or can I reinstall Windows or do a repair? (I have also tried a system restore) but this doesn't help either. Thanks in advance for any help. Has anyone gotten the Acer Theft Shield to work with their Ultrabook?  I get as far as connecting to the Ultrabook's Theft Shield hotspot but cannot move off the pairing page of the desktop application without losing my pairing.  The theft shield app doesn't seem to recognize that the phone is in fact paired with the laptop's hotspot, and I imagine that the desktop app on the laptop would also indicate successful pairing.  However, I have the correct pairing passcode and the phone itself indicates a stable pairing with the hotspot according to my wifi utility.  This seems to be an application-level problem.  Any ideas?

I was an idiot and clicked on a link that an ex friend of mine had sent me to an image file (httpxx://gehlhausenassoc.com/images/)
and voila, my laptop became infected.
SYMPTOMS INCLUDE:

1)Once infected, my google searches were redirected to google.cz
2)Afterwards, a day later, a small red security shield (like the normal one with the white X) popped up and had a bubble that said "Your computer is infected! Blah blah blah"
2)When I went to turn on my windows firewall (It had been turned off), it came up with an error message stating that something was stopping it from opening.
3)My WLAN Wireless card isnt accessible and I am not able to pick up a wireless signal. I havent tried hooking up to the landline yet, due to other computers being connected (this one I'm using in particular)to the internet.

HELP.

I am building a timesheet in Excel and a daily total for a staff member should be 7 hours. Any hours >7 needs to be moved to a new cell. I'm currently using this formula: =IF(SUM(H8)>7,SUM(H8)-7,""), and it does work. However, I'd like to have the regular hours worked (which is less than or equal to 7) appear in H8 and any hours >7 appear in the overtime column. The formula that I am currently using places hours >7 in the overtime column but they are also appearing in regular time column. Basically, I'm trying to account for regular hours worked and overtime hours earned. Does anyone have any ideas for this? Thanks in advance!

Answer:I'm trying to account for overtime hours earned?

So your data looks like this, I have included the Column Letters and Row numbers that you seem to have forgotten about.
A B C D E F G H I
1) Date: Time In: Time Out: AM Hours Time In: Time Out: PM Hours RegularTotal HRS Over
2) 01/11/2016 08:30 AM 12:00 PM 3.5 1:00 PM 5:00 PM 4 7.5 0.5
Is there a specific reason you have separated out the AM Hours and the PM Hours? You can shorten your sheet by two columns if not.There is no reason to use the SUM() function on a single cell in this formula:=IF(SUM(H8)>7,SUM(H8)-7,"")For the formula in cell H2 try this:=IF(G2+D2>7,7,G2+D2)For the formula in cell I2 try this:=IF(G2+D2>7,(G2+D2)-7,0)MIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/message edited by mmcconaghy

Hi,

I'm in charge of calculating overtime where I work and at this point it is all done manually.

The more I learn about excel, the more I realize how powerful it is, so I'm wondering if someone can let me know if this is possible or not:

Our overtime is calculated based on:

The empoyee will receive 1.5 times the hourly rate for time worked over 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week (whichever is greater) and 2.0 times for time worked over 12 hours per day.
I don't need to figure out rates of pay, or total pay, but I do need to figure out how many overtime hours the person worked.

So for example:

Billy worked:

Monday - 8 hours
Tuesday - 8.5 hours
Wednesday - 9 hours
Thursday - 7 hours
Friday - 6 hours

Total hours: 39.5
Total hours over 8 hours per day or 12 hours per day: 1.5

Total hours were less than 40, so 1.5 hour is greater, so that's the number I would use.

Sally Worked:

Monday - 9 hours
Tuesday - 14 hours
Wednesday - 8 hours
Thursday - 8 hours
Friday - 8 hours

Total hours: 47
Total hours over 8 hours per day (7) over 12 hours per day (2) = 9 overtime hours
9 hours is greater than (47-40) so I would use 9 hours

I know this is complicated and time consuming. I've donated to the forum before and would be happy to again if anyone can help.

Thanks!

Hey everyone. New to this forum and was hoping someone could help. I'm trying to create a data base that will generate a report of fair allocation of overtime shifts. Having the employees ascending according to those with less overtime ahead of those with more overtime. I would like be able to enter the persons name, refused or worked and date and have it total to a number for each person. And to able to enter each refusal or worked so that it gets added to the respected person *with out creating multiples of same person.*

So for example. Bob as 3 total OT and Jim has 2. Jim gets a call and he refuses the overtime. I enter in to the data base he refused now the total for Jim is 3 but bob is the next in line ad moves up the call list and he accepts the OT his new number is now 4 OT and moves out of line. *Is this possible to do in access without using a server as we don't have one available for SQL or anything. Can it possibly be done in excel if not access or maybe someone may know of another way of doing this. It has been sometime since I used either programs and most experience as been with server based collection.
I managed to create a data base in access but the problem I have is entering the next instance for the same person I'm not sure how I can enter the refusal in the form so that it gets added to a specific person.*
I appreciate any help that you can provide.*

Hi all

I am hoping someone can help me with a formula for timesheets. Our company pays everyone the following rule for weekends:

? On Saturday, Time-and-a-half for first 2 hours, Double-time anything after that
On Sunday - double time all day.

My timesheet template calculates time and a half and double time during the week using the IF formula, however how can I calculate the weekend rate?
I have attached a timesheet template.

For about the past week now, my RAM usage has been gradually increasing overtime. Basically after an hour another GB will be in use by apparently nothing and that will keep repeating and I can't clear it unless I restart my PC. I've tried scanning for virus' with Malwarebytes and tried refreshing the paging file and neither worked. I've looked through task manager (with all processes shown) and resource manager and neither of them add up to what the current amount of RAM that is being used.

Any help would be appreciated as this is starting to get annoying.

Cheers,

Answer:RAM usage increases overtime (Memory leak?)

- Did you install a program about one week ago ? Some programs simply have lousy memory management, they claim more and more memory without releasing any of it.
- The file cache could be growing & growing and the (size of the) cache doesn't show up in Task Manager. The file cache isn't part of the "Standby" memory but part of the "In Use" memory. (See Resource Monitor)
- Install PcWinTech's Cleanmem. It reduces memory usage every 15 minutes (or any other user defined interval) and let it also collapse the file cache. (Google's Chrome & Firefox are very stubborn and won't release too much memory).
http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem
http://www.pcwintech.com/about-cleanmem
Cleanmem pushes data from "In Use" to "Standby" and NOT to the pagefile. And the larger the "Standby" is, the better.

Keep me posted.

The people who add up our company's overtime spreadsheet have NO CLUE how to get their figures right.The Overtime Spreadsheet has the days of the month running across the top row (numerical days not actual day days) which run from the 28th to the 15th of each month. Each employee's name is listed in the leftmost column running downwards. Each month is a new page of the spreadsheet / workbook.Three different Overtime rates are used to work out the Overtime. 1. All weekday evenings are paid at Basic Rate x 1.332. All Saturdays are paid at Basic Rate x 1.503. All Sundays are paid at Basic Rate x 2.00The number of hours overtime we work is placed in each cell.The spreadsheet is colour coded to make it easy to read. The 1.33 rate hours are Yellow - 1.50 rate hours are Blue - 2.00 rate hours are Red.The spreadsheet DOES NOT do any adding up of any of the cells because of all the different rates.The spreadsheet gets emailed to the HR department on the 16th of each month. They then add up all the cells for each colour code and submit our overtime to the external accounting firm we use.

Answer:Excel add up colour coded cells for Overtime

Is there ANY way of getting the Excel spreadsheet to add up each colour coded cell for each row. eg. Add all the Yellow cells togetherFor the last three months everyone at our company has been getting short-paid on their overtime because the people in the HR department who USED TO do the adding up have left and their replacements STILL are not doing it right despite having been told TWICE before that they are doing it wrong.NOW people are saying that they WONT do any more overtime until the company does something about it and pays them what they are owed.One of the problems with the spreadsheet is the numbering across the top - Why do they start it at the 28th when it would make more sense to start from the 16th of the previous month when the spreadsheet gets emailed to HR. NONE of the overtime from 16th to the 27th has been paid to anyone in the company. The company's first response was "It's not on the spreadsheet" - of course it is not ON the spreadsheet you pillocks because the managers enter it on the previous months spreadsheet which has already been passed to HR. So technically the spreadsheet runs from 28th through to 27th. But only the figures up to the 15th are actually handed in. The company conveniently forgets to add the last week of the previous month that we have worked and haven't been paid for. They NEVER add on what they missed out the previous month either - at least I can't see an extra payment on my payslip anywhere so I assume they haven't bloody paid it... Read more

My PC uses an i7 - 3770k core processor 3.5 Ghz with a AMD Radeon R9 200 series graphics card and im running windows 7 professional as my operating system but for some reason my computer cant continue to run games for an extended period of time unless i turn the settings down to the bare minimal and even still you can tell its still slow and laggy. Can anyone help??

Answer:Solved: Games running slower overtime

Do the following in that computer.

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.

After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.

Information about your computer will appear.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

HERE'S THE QUESTION:

Write a program that reads in the hourly wage of an employee. Then ask how many hours the employee worked in the past week. Be sure to accept fractional hours. Compute the pay. Any overtime work (over 40 hours per week) is paid at 150 percent of the regular wage. Solve this problem by implementing a class Paycheck.

Use the following class as your main class:
import java.util.Scanner;

/**
This program calculates the pay of an employee.
*/
public class Pay Calculator
{
public static void main(String[] args)
{
Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);

System.out.println("Hourly wage: ");
double hourlyWage = in.nextDouble();

System.out.println("Hours worked: ");
double hours = in.nextDouble();

PayCheck aPayCheck = new PayCheck(hourlyWage, hours);

System.out.println("Pay: "+ aPayCheck.getPay()) ;
}
}

HERE'S MY ANSWER:
public class PayCheck
{
public PayCheck(double hourlyWage,double hours)
{
this.hourlyWage=hourlyWage;
this.hours = hours;
}

public int getPay()
{
PayCheck=(int) (hours * hourlyWage);
if(hours>40.0)
PayCheck+=(int)((hours-40.0)*((.50*hourl…

return PayCheck;
}
private double hourlyWage;
public int PayCheck;
private double hours;
}
AND HERE'S THE ERROR I GOT FROM THE COMPILER WHICH NEEDS TO BE FIXED:

Evaluation Summary
compile: pass
test-inputs: fail

Test-inputs:
Input test1.in
pass; Actual: Hourly wage:
Expected: Hourly wage:

pass; Actual: Hours worked:
Expected: Hours worked:

fail;... Read more

Have you disabled realtime protection to solve this problem or did it occur afterwards?
It might be a sign of malware infection. You should use AV, installing one should disable WD.

As for a memory leak, CleanMem Free should help, if installing other AV does not.

Answer:green light is workin overtime and computer running slow help.

First of all please use punctuation - you want to make it as easy as possible for us to understand you Second, by green light I assume you mean the hard disk activity light? Open Task Manager and click on the PROCESSES tab. Click twice on the word CPU at the top of the cpu column (this sorts that column with highest usage at the top). What process shows the highest usage (and what's the number)?

I ran a scan with Avast (Paid for version) . It found 3 infections, one of them is an Ibryte. I put them in the vault and to cut a long story short, I contacted an Avast (call centre as it turned out) The Tech used remote assistance and informed me that my Avast is NOT protecting my system. Naturally I am concerned. He told me he could fix it all and this would cost me £80 I declined because I was suspicious. He also advised I should not be using my laptop at all. Can someone please help? How do find out if Avast is actually working properly? Thanks in advance.

Hi -My security center says my virus protection not found.  I know I have avast antivirus free program because I installed it and reinstalled it.  Everything was working fine until I did a back up and a restore.  As far as I know everything worked except the restore took away all my restore points so I can not do a restore back before my trouble.  Any idea of how to fix my virus protection?    Thanks    Bob

Answer:Why isn't my avast antivirus not working?

Bob, that is what happens when you do a restore.You have answered  your own question.Do not do a restore beyond the point where a program was installed.Yup have to install, uninstall and install again to get it right.If that does not work, you have do switch to another free virus program. Or buy the program.Don't gripe about free AV programs. If you do not pay, you get no support. This issue goes away when you have a paid version of the program. To prevent abuse of the free offer, they limit your ability to re-install the free software.

Question: AVAST quit working

I have had avast free for 10 years. 3 days ago it stopped working. It will not FIX nor will it START back up. I have gone into Windows "services" and tried to manually start it. It says it starts and then stops. Avast no longer appears in the programs list in CONTROL PANEL. It will not delete from C:\Programs. I have downloaded a new copy of the free version and also the paid version but neither will install. I wrote to avast on Tuesday and they still have not replied. I am using windows 7 64 bit
I scanned using Malwarebytes and also security essentials. No problems

Answer:AVAST quit working

Have you tried using the Avast uninstall utility (aswclear.exe) ?

I've been running Avast v4.6 home edition and update regularly.
However the virus chest isn't working which is kinda scary! This has only happened fairly recently.
I keep getting error messages saying the initialization of the chest files failed, Program cannot use chest client (null), RPC communication failed.
Any ideas guys?

Answer:Avast not working correctly

Have you tried downloading the Avast setup again, deinstalling the existing faulty program and reinstalling downloaded program (make sure you are not on the net while doing the deinstall) You will then have to reregister I guess.
Cheers
Robert

Hello,
Firstly, I will apologize upfront for my lack of knowledge, I'm just starting out with Access (& all IT really) & am just waiting for a little money to float my way so I can buy a good book (thanks for the tip OBP) on the subject.

In the meantime; whilst I'm still keen to learn, I'm trying to build a practical DB for myself, as my personality dictates that for my learning to stick, the project has to be practical.

So, OBP has helped me immensely in my journey so far & I'm keen to press ahead with the next phase of developing the DB:

thanks to OBP, I now have a practical "Work_Hours" data entry form that records the worker's daily duties.
However; as it currently stands, the worker has to break-down their duties into separate entries if they do any overtime:
a. one entry of 7.6hrs for their normal award hours
b. and another entry for any overtime hours performed

This is because I haven't factored in any "Auto-calculation" to break the total daily hours into work types.

It would be great if the worker could just put in their total hours performed for the day & the DB prompt the worker with a pop-up (or something) that auto-breaks-down the total into 2 separate entries (preferably on the same pop-up dialogue box) for the worker to assign to appropriate projects & overtime types.

I'm tipping that doesn't make much sense, so please forgive me, I'm struggling to type my ideas with any ... Read more

Answer:Solved: MS Access - TimeSheet DB - Planning Required to Implement Auto-Overtime Bank

First of all I would change the current field to "Total hours worked", I would then have a field for "Standard Hours" and "Overtime Hours".
When the person enters the value in the Total hours an After Update event places the Standard Hours in the Standard hours field and the remainder in the overtime hours.
It would use code that is something like this :-
If not isnull(me.Total_Hours_Worked) then
If me.Total_Hours_Worked=>7.6 then
me.Standard_Hours = 7.6
me.Overtime_Hours = me.Total_Hours_Worked - 7.6
else
me.Standard_Hours = me.Total_Hours_Worked
end if
end if

If you want to add the values to a running total that requires slight modification.
