Rma'd Replacement Machine has more issues than the Initial Machine received...:(

Question: Rma'd Replacement Machine has more issues than the Initial Machine received...:(

Ok, so here goes...Although I'm an avid viewer of many forums, I typically refrain from posting so please bear with me.

First, I am extremely hoping that all of my problems can be resolved through Software tweaking and fixes, and secondly must let you all know that I have absolutely no idea wtf I am doing.  And Thirdly, have up until now had my technical issues resolved by my father or my significant other neither of which are viable to me, therefore I am coming here asking for assistance because I have been brought to my knees by a realm far beyond my own level of ascertained knowledge...

I do not know how much of my problems, or if any, are Malware, Adware, Spyware, &/or Virus related but appreciate all help and will repost in the appropriate sub-forums with pertinent information Just let me know what and where...currently I am unsure as to which that may be related to because of the plethora of ills befalling this machine...

I recently purchased a new computer from Newegg and received, what I thought at that point in time was, a faulty machine with some issues concerning the Internet components.  I took said machine to Best Buy to get looked over by Geek Squad...they confirmed my suspicions saying that the wireless components were faulty and that I should RMA the computer....
I did so and received another 'New' computer from said company.
The box had 2 storage stickers on it...not a new machine as I was assured I would be receiving...I called back and was told that I would need to talk to the Service.Net  people that run their extended warranties which I also purchased along with the first machine, I cannot get ahold of anyone there... Yeah I've been had, or rather it feels that way right now.
So at this present time I am stuck with a computer that has had issues since I turned it on for the very first time and have been searching various different sites attempting to resolve them.

Now to get down to it...

* I did happen to post in my profile the specs to this computer but will add them here as well.

Computer:                            Asus ROG series G751JT-ch71
Operating System:              Windows 8.1 64 bit (preinstalled OEM)
CPU:                                     Intel Core i7-4710HQ 2.50 GHz
Ram (type):                          DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM, 16 GB
Storage:                               1TB HDD 7200 RPM
Graphics:                             NVIDIA GeForce GTX970M with 3GB GDDR5
AV & Firewall:                     McAfee (built in bundled software)

I did not notice any problems straight off when powering the machine on and setting up.  However, shortly after the initial configuring of this machine problems became apparent and have been persistently driving me crazy!

1.)         So the first thing that I had noticed that I can also not figure out specifically what is happening because I cannot personally find in the Event Viewer ( or am perhaps overlooking), nor can I find any posts when using google search or looking on other forum sites ( I may be describing the problem incorrectly)...is that while doing ANYTHING...playing a game, browsing the internet, typing up this post >..> , or doing absolutely nothing sitting in desktop mode...  My computer decides that it wants to pop out to the start screen by itself without prompting (hitting the Windows key or clicking on it) it can happen at any time regardless of user input.

2.)         I also noticed, with a bit of dismay, some of the same issues that I had experienced with the first machine concerning Connectivity to the internet and maintaining a stable connection...

Now this is not the only computer I have in my house.  I have a Black Friday special Toshiba laptop that I purchased about 5 or so years ago that has had no problems with connecting on my end and I decided to try and match the configuration specifications to see if this would help ( I figured it couldn't hurt)...
Unfortunately while it did not hurt, it also did not resolve the issues...

I have attempted to update drivers, retrieved from Asus' support page, for these types of media but with a terrible cost.  As now I have media disconnected from improper installation.  Yeah, I'm an idiot

I get consistent connection instability and dcom timeouts ( slow loading browser netpages, high ping in games) constant disconnects.

4.)             Troubleshooting attempts so far:
So.... as far as things that I have tried, I do happen to have an External Hard drive 1TB a WD MyPassport Ultra, on which I created a System Backup Image, (through the Windows Software not the Western Digital Software).
I have Updated the BIOS to version 207, which is the highest available on the Asus Support page designated for this computer.
I tried doing a full system restore to factory default settings, with the fully cleaning OS drive option {this version had quite a few programs missing outside of ones installed myself (additionally there were  registry errors all over the place and also application errors occurring left and right)}---->I then did a system image restore to the backup image I had created...
Note:   On the Full System Restore I did not at any time using this fresh setup notice any of the random looping to Windows Start Screen.

I have tried running SFC Scannow restore health in an elevated cmd prompt.
I have tried the DISM online restorehealth in an elevated cmd prompt.
I have searched Various Forum sites to resolve some of these issues myself.  I have in fact spent months trying to resolve these on my own...
I have downloaded all the Drivers on the Page relating to this computer from Asus' Support Page.
I created my boot flash drive from the recovery partition.
I downloaded a Windows 8.1 64 bit ISO file and stored on a flash drive for further troubleshooting abilities, I have used this for the Repair options and such.---->  My machine came preinstalled w/ the OS I have no disks...
I EVEN called Microsoft and they attempted to run Hitman pro on my computer via remote access before informing me that in order to continue assisting me they would need payment.

So in summary tons of stuff going on, I have no clue as to what Im doing and bow to ya'lls assorted expertise...My current A/V the bundled in software coverage expires in 4 days and I'm thinking of attempting to uninstall it and try to install Avast Free, which I have used for multiple years in conjunction with Spybot S&D.  Which brings me to another question... I am aware that Spybot S&D has upgraded their user interface and the free version that they now offer via their website contains many many less options than the version I have on my older computer.  What I was wondering was if anyone had tried to do a Windows Transfer of that program from a Windows 7 Home Premium OS to a Windows 8.1 OS and have it work properly or if I just need to scrap that idea altogether.

I'm currently not financially in a spot to be able to pay for my AV/Protective software...I have also used Malwarebytes via the free version as well, but not on this current machine...
Again any help is greatly appreciated, sorry for being so long-winded and super detailed...

Preferred Solution: Rma'd Replacement Machine has more issues than the Initial Machine received...:(

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just received my HP Envy 2 machine and it is very nice. Great build and smooth as glass. Can't wait to put it thru its paces.

Answer:Just received my HP Envy 2, wow what a nice machine

Wow that sounds nice!
I myself am looking into buying the x2, but I have a few questions that you (maybe) can answer?
First off, how is the battery life? Is the 12-14 hours true? How does it stand in real life usage?
Secondly, have you tried to use it with a stylus? I can't get a clear answer anywhere, whether you are able to use wacom-pens with the machine, or you have to buy something else to make it work.
It has an inbuilt active digitizer, right?
Thanks in advance :)
Mikkel.

Out of the blue my sent attachments are being received as machine language by multiple recipients.

I'm using IE6, OE, and noticed when I send email w/attachments they're broken into parts which wasn't the case before the problem. The attachments were sent as .Jpg but aren't received as such.

Any ideas appreciated.

Hi Guys,I am getting a replacement machine from Lenovo through some company called 'MKCL Deutschland GmbH'. I am worried about sending my machine after reading horror stories. What should I do? Answer:Replacement machine, please help!

I have dealt with MKCL and found them to be very helpful and efficient, not knowing which system you should be receiving as a replacement doesn't help me advise; due to the change to the **30 systems some "older" systems may be in short supply. That said we had an instance where the system to be replaced was no longer available and so they sent an even better one   took a couple of days longer than originally expected, but they kept us informed.

The new system will have it's own warranty, if you purchased a servicepack you could ask MKCL to get it transferred to the new system, but before they can do anything they need to receive the new system from Lenovo because they don't get the s/n in advance.  Alternatively they may ask you to e-mail another department with the new systems details and your DOA call number.

I recently purchased 2 2016 ideapads this past April, the 100 series, one had a network card issue. I sent it out for repair and support said they couldn t locate the part for repair. Its been a month and many, many phone calls no results  repair.I finally got the machine back unrepaired, same problem, the rubber feet were not even removed to open the machine( I marked them). Finally I get contacted  by a "manager" who wants to send a replacement machine that is smaller with half the processor speed. WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?!?!? I guess customer satisfaction is not a priority. Does anyone have a phone # for North Carolinas head of the managers contact info? For someone who does not understand the technical workings of email (smtp etc. etc.), how do you set up the new computer to link it to your ISP so that your email comes to that computer and program? Does the new Thunderbird program walk you through getting the emails to come to that account? I did find an older web article about this, but maybe it is obsolete.

How do you move all the archives folders, inbox, sent messages folder, etc. from an old PC with OE to a new PC with Thunderbird? My goal would be to have all my old folders and stored messages come into the new email program so they are as accessible then as they are now in OE.

If the computers are on a network together, can you transfer directly without having to download onto an external hard drive or jump drive?

Can you leave the OE on the old computer after the Thunderbird is set up on the new computer and receiving/sending/archiving? The purpose would be to make sure the new computer and email was working reliably before discarding the OE function. Can you just retrieve your email from your provider from either computer for the mean time? If you later have to move to another email program, can you move the Thunderbird archives/folders to the new program, or do you run the risk of compounding your situation?

Finally, if you begin downloading Thunderbird into the new computer, is this a point of no return? Do you have to find the various addresses etc., protocols, whatever, and enter them to com... Read more

In this case who may I ask for help? Technican teams? It seems they did not do quality control on replacements before the machine was shipped. I am very fraustrated. Hi, This is for the Lenovo support team.
I had purchased my Lenovo Y470 on 1/2/12 and it was delivered in 4-5 days. Upon receiving it I noticed that there is some problem with this product's assembly as there was some sound coming from both the sides of the touch pad. I called the post sells support and they said that machine will need to be replaced.
When I created a case number for replacement, I was told that the replacement machine (new) is available and will be dispatched as soon as the replacement is approved.
After that I got an email from one of the support staff person that the replacement was approved on 1/26. The shipping date of the new machine was shown as 2/24/12 on the link for order status date in replacement confirmation email. I was fine with that. Now when I looked at the link yesterday (2/25), it is showing 6/4/12 as the estimated ship date.
Can you tell me why this date was moved this far?
I had sent 1 email to two of the support staff people involved in the replacement email communication earlier to check why the date was one month later (2/24) the replacement was approved but did not get answer from anyone of them.
Now I need to know why this date is moved to 6/4. Is this the way you serve the customers or do you manufacture one machine each moth or so?
If I place a new order, the machine is delivered in less than a week and when I ask for a replacement, you make it 6 months? It just gives me a feel that you... Read more

Hi, All! I am about to attempt to swap out the keyboard on my Y40-80. Tonight I did a test-run and man is it tght in there! It looks like I will have to remove the motherboard, fan array, HDD, 1 speaker, heat sink, etc. to get to where the keyboard is located. Furthermore, after reassembly, the function+adjust volume only goes up and the function + increaes brightness no longer works. (Perhaps ths is because I left few screw off the motherboard to make it easy for when I actually attempt to replace the keyboard. )Has anyone on here attemped a keyboard replacement on a Y40-80 ? Thank you!-dr3wski

I recently sent my machine in for a screen repair and I finally got it back after a week. Of course my HDD had been wiped, which really isn't an issue. I set up the computer again ready to use and I find that my computer pen digitizer doesn't work! I tried installing drivers, reloading the machine from disks, everything and I couldn't get the pen to work; finally I took it to an authorized technician who verified that my digitizer wasn't installed. In other words the screen was for a regular [non-tablet] X60. The frustrating part is this will be the 9th (YES NINTH!) repair that this has happened. The 4 times after the first 4, I tried to get an exchange, but of course I have been denied every time. Finally the 8th time I settled for a repair. They called me back to tell me they found out the issue (wrong display--which I had been telling them since the first repair). It has happened again. I contacted support and they told me someone will call me back. I'm in college with classes all day, so my conclusion is "someone" will call during that time and not be able to get a hold of me and them close the case. What are my options here. I have spend the last 10 stupid days, all of which were stupid, trying to analyze what happened.
I thought it was a corrupted windows file. As it turns out, and I have examined my boot log file which I created, this file is a new virus, hxxp://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_157111.htm
which was detected by Mcafee on 5/20/09. I have just updated my .dat file for my virus scan and I'm now scanning, again..... all 370,000 files on my seagate hard drive. This first time I ran the scan, there were about 24 files which were quaranteened. I'm not sure where they are placed.

My machine will not boot. Here is the boot log from ntbtlog.txt:

Questions:
1. What version of Windows are you using?
2. What anti virus are you using? I see you mention McAfee but only in that they detected it (unless you're saying that YOUR McAfee scanner found it).
3. Have you tried booting into safe mode?
4. If its a virus, you know you were infected. Is there a way for you to scan that drive for spyware? (either hook it up in another computer, hook it up as an external drive to another computer, or create a boot disk with spyware scanning on it such as UBCD)

have two laptops - one running Vista and one running XP. Both have IE 7 and Norton 360 installed. I've verified the settings for IE and Norton are the same on both machines.

On my Vista machine, which is my main computer, I cannot access certain sites, specifically www.dilbert.com and www.advantiscu.org. They appear to be loading, but never load. I've tried with both IE 7 and Firefox, but I get the same result. In addition, the daily Dilbert cartoon that I subscribe too is received in Outlook but the graphics do not display. The graphics are not visible in my Yahoo webmail either.

However, on my XP machine, everything works just fine...no problems.

Like I said, I've verified settings on both machines...I've even done a restore to a previous restore point...no help. I've reset my router, disabled Norton, etc...everything I can think of and nothing has worked.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ok,
Last night I just got my brand new Athlon XP 1500. Anway It's running WindowsXP. I have been trying all morning to connect it to my old laptop (running Windows 98) using Direct Cable Connection. The AthlonXP is the Host and the Laptop is the Guest. I can get both computers connected fine, BUT when I try to get the Laptop to view the AthlonXPs files it asks me for the name of the AthlonXP as well as a password. I type in the name of the PC (there is no password). I try clicking ok, but it tells me the passoword is incorrect. There is no passwords setup on the AthlonXP at all! Please help. Thanks.

G'day all! (first post here!! :P)

Ok..so this is my situation:

I have a server...and i have installed a printer to it - the Canon LBP 3200 - the server is a 32bit machine running win7 pro...anyways...this printer does not have ANY 64bit drivers (which my main machine runs win7 ulti x64) so i am unable to install the printer on my main machine...

I was wondering, is there a way to share it from the server to the 64bit machine without installing any drivers?

Or is there a way to install 32bit drivers on a 64bit Machine?

Or can anyone find any 64 bit drivers/custom 64bit drivers?

:S

Thanx all!!

Answer:Sharing a printer from 32bit machine to 64bit machine without drivers.

ok so i tried this method: Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer.

Choose Add a local printer. Click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next.

A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the \\computer name\printer name ie. My computer's name is basement and the printer name is EpsonSty so I typed in \\basement\epsonsty

But when i make my own port name it says access is denied... :S

I recently got a 1.8GHz Celeron computer from a family member who bought a new computer, but they dropped it while bringing it over. When I started it up, it booted up pretty quickly. But when I'm actually in Windows, it runs as slowly as my old 1GHz machine and sometimes when opening things it has long delays. I thought it might just be Windows being old, so I did a clean install. But that didn't fix it. Now I think it might be one of the hard drives or my cd drives, since at the BIOS diagnostic screen it sometimes hangs at them. Other than scandisk, which didn't return anything, is there a way to find out where the bottleneck is occuring without having to spend money I don't have?

Well, it depends on which OS you have. If it's Vista or XP, then you may want to change the graphics settings so they're lower, because they consume memory.

I have an X250 machine type 20CL and want to change the existing Swedish non-backlit keyboard for a UK backlit keyboard. On the Lenovo support website, I put in the serial number of my X250 and went to the Parts and Accessories page where it says the original part number for my Swedish keyboard is CS13X,SE,CHY 04Y0926 or equivalent part number CS13X,SE,CHY 04Y0964. The problem is that whilst looking for UK backlit keyboards, some sellers list by part number (e.g beginning 04) and others list by machine type (e.g beginning 20CL00). Some sellers also say don't order by part number as the same number is used for different layouts and they have more than one part number listed for the same keyboard. All very confusing! Should I be using part number or machine type to buy an X250 UK backlit keyboard and what is the number for the part?

Answer:Buy using replacement part number or machine type ...

Hello and welcome,

Have you already seen the FRU BOM?  https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/x250_frubom_20160106.pdf

It lists keyboards by FRU number.  Searching on the "GB" backlit FRUs turns up several sources.

BIOS issues after motherboard swap on a HP Elitebook 8560w Since I have exhausted all possible ways on the internet to solve this issue, I thought to give it one last try and publish it here ? maybe an expert can suggest a solution. Preamble: I probably fried my old motherboard with a bad power-connector, so I decided to get a new one. The old motherboard was built for a dual core CPU, but since I found a cheap, new motherboard with quadcore CPU and since on the HP forurms I read it was possible to upgrade from a dual core mother board to a quadcore motherboard ( 684319-001 ), I decided to upgrade the motherboard and also get a new used (quadcore) i7 2760QM. Replacing the motherboard went rather smooth, I only realised that the LCD cable was damaged (it was giving black screen), so I had to replace that as well. Symptoms: Having replaced the motherboard, I started getting the message ?Warning ? machine not in committed state?, but after a split second Windows 10 boots normally (I actually was surprised I didn?t have to reinstall the OS). Furthermore, when I unplug the laptop from the power cord, the screen starts flickering before turning off, but the machine keeps running. The screen also turns off when unplugging the power while in BIOS, so I guess it is not an issue linked to power plans and other Windows stuff. Things I?ve tried:I thought the best thing is to leave aside the power issue for now and solve first the software issue h... Okay, About three months ago, I got hacked HARD...permissions were changed, administrator rights were removed from my administrator accounts, etc. i was flabbergasted. THe iactually didn't bother me though until I ran a MBAM scan and found 133 viruses and spyware instances on my drive (NOT including tracking cookies!). I cleaned and recleaned, using MBAM, SuperantiSpyware, Avira, running each one in safe mode first, then loading into my normal account and running them, and finally erasing my user account and creating a new one. But even after the new user account was created with Administrator privileges, I still routinely received virus and Malware threat warnign flags from MBAM and Avira. Eventually, Avira and MBAM were disabled and Avira was "deleted" (Windows will not uninstall because the setup.exe file has been 'Changed" and won't reinstall it because I don't have "Administrator privileges" on my Administrator accounts!) even though at startup I receive an error message saying that Avira has been corrupted. The most telling issue is that antivirus and spyware/Malware scans come up clean on Safe mode scans, but using my normal account, the machine reboots. Using Superantispyware I notice that it's always during the memory test that this occurs (and in Safe Mode, it passes through this section with no issue). None of my antivirus programs will download updates, even ones I start manually, and although I have no problem acc... Read more

I have a new Gateway Vista 64 machine for my office . The old HP Pavillion Pentium 4 with XP 32(?)is networked in other room Here's my setup:
Ethernet network with a new wireless Netgear router (yes,it has places to plug in the ethernet cords).
-HP Laserjet 1200 printer is plugged directly into the Vista 64 machine.
The XP Unit is on the network.
I can see and share files between the machines just fine but I get an error when choosing the networked printer in "add printer" when setting up XP unit.
(Print sharing is turned on on Vista Machine).
I choose the networked printer found on Gateway, it says that it will install drivers onto my machine to make things work, I click ok and it says that server for my printer has the wrong driver installed, would I like to find right driver? Clk yes. It looks for a VSFILE\XP but can't find it. It tells me to manually find the file but I can't find that file on HP site or any of my discs. I've uninstalled and reinstalled original drivers onto the XP machine (PCL6) and downloaded a Universal PCL5 printer file. None correct the problem. Vista automatically loaded the printer drivers when I turned on the power. It has a PCL5 file. The 1200 printer works fine when printing from Gateway machine. Vista will only let me use the drivers already installed in the machine. When I try to manually try to install drivers downloaded from HP for an XP on the the vista then it balks and says they were not created for an X6... Read more

My problem seems to be the opposite of most people's - I added a Windows 7 laptop to my previously all-XP network without any trouble, simply enrolling the new machine in the existing Workgroup, and everything works fine.

Except for just one snag: from my XP machine I can see every single file on the Windows 7 machine, which raises privacy issues even within a family!

How do I stop this happening, and revert back to the situation I had before, where machines on the network could only see each other's shared folders?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:How do I stop my XP machine seeing every file on networked Windows 7 machine?

Well, a rough and dirty security fix would be to make sure that "Password Protected Sharing" in the Network and Sharing Center is set to "On." That way the files will be safe but still visible.

Are you logging into w7 with a password?

Create an account below Administrator level with a password and use that.

Theoretically w7 should not allow a drive to be shared, so check all the folders that show the "Share" symbol and set the Share to "Not Shared".

I am trying to help a friend get her new Win-7 machine set up. I used the printer set-up wizard to install a networked printer in the new machine with absolutely no problem. Proved it would print from that machine.

Now, I get a call informing me that her old XP machine, which had been printing to the network printer with no problems, will no longer print. Documents go into the print queue, but they don't get printed. No error messages show up. I did some messing around via remote access, and finally removed the printer with the intention of reinstalling it. Scanning for network printers turned up several redundant instances of the same printer with different names. Some are identified as "invalid" some a "access denied". Bottom line. I can't get any of the selections to install.

On the Win-7 machine I did find a window that indicated that the printer is designated as being shared, but I didn't explicitly set it for sharing when I installed it. Also, I somehow got to a window that told me that for printers that were to be shared with other versions of windows I could optionally install drivers to support such machines. Didn't have the driver disk handy and took the window down. Now I can't even find it again.

I need some help in sorting this all out. Part of the problem is that out there in "network land" there are redundant remnants of previous installations that are being remembered inappropriately. I'd really li... Read more

Hello, I am just about to purchase the x201 but need to know how to power up without having to open the lid.  Do I need the x200 ultrabase to make it happen?  is power button on outside of laptop?  or any other docking station? I want to make this seamless as a desktop replacement that will probably not be carried around too much. I will have external monitor, keyboard...most of the time attatched to it... Thank you all much for any info you may have on this. Ron

I try to boot my T42p only to be greeted by a black screen and the words "Fan error."I order the long fan from Lenovo and it arrives next day (today). I've never done this fan replacement before and I'm nervous. I found that it pays to have the correct screw driver and find that the small screws are easily stripped. But I manage to get the keyboard and the palmrest/bezel off after taking out a total of 12 screws. I see the old malfunctioning fan and remove it after applying just a bit of hair dryer heat and removing those three very small brass screws. I get the new fan in, plugging in the connector. Here's where my problem popped up. Amazingly I cannot find those three tiny brass screws that are supposed to secure the new fan. I don't know if I put them in a safe place and have forgotten where that place is, or if they popped out of the old fan when I pulled it out and went flying. Or maybe I blew them away when a blew out some dust with canned air. Anyway, they're gone. I'm surprised I couldn't find even one of them, which lends support to my theory that I have misplaced them and have a mental block about where I put them. Anyway, anxious to see if the machine works I reinstall the palmrest/bezel and keyboard, reinstall the battery, and press the power button. Voila! It boots and is working fine. If only I hadn't lost those three screws I'd be proud of myself. I call Lenovo and get the FRU number for something they call a screw kit. The number, in case anyone... Read more

I,m new to this development and deployment and am running into a strange problem. I developed an ACCESS db on a laptop. Everything seems ok, it works. I used the Package Wizard and created an installation package. When I installed it on another machine I am now getting errors in the deployment machine that I do not get in the development machine. I seems to be coding issues. Can't load data into field for example.

Why would I get these on the deployment machine and not the development machine? Am I unaware of some way to test the code in the deployment machine? Otherwise how do I solve the problem if I can't deplicate the error in the development machine where I can stop the code and see the problem. I feel like I am missing some trick or secret.

Thanks

Answer:Errors in deployment machine not in development machine

Once it is deployed you need to run the connection command on the client to connect to the back end database. Are you using SQL server or all Access for the back end?

Hi,
I am having trouble connecting from an XP (Home) desktop machine to a Win 7 (Home Premium) laptop to share files.
I have read and followed a lot of posts to no avail.
specifically I have followed the advice in "How to make Windows 7 work with older Windows versions for networking and file sharing"

- both machines are in the same workgroup
- there is no trouble going from Win 7 to the XP box
- on win 7 the network is defined as a 'Work' network
- firewalls are disabled on both boxes
- Advanced Network settings

Hi,
I've checked here and on a couple of other places; many people seem to have similar problems but not similar enough that I've been able to solve it.

I have a HOME workgroup on my Vista machine that is connected to the printer I want to share. I have made HOME the workgroup on my W7 laptop. The Vista machine is able to access folders on the W7 and the W7 "sees" the Vista machine... the network map on W7 shows a "dotted" line from W7 - Vista but when I try to connect from W7 to Vista it will not accept a logon. I have tried using my normal Vista machine User Name and password and even tried creating a new one just for this connection but Windows Security always says "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password".

One of the other sites suggested that Client for Microsoft Networks needed to be installed on the W7 laptop but when I checked the properties for the W7 NIC there was no Install option... does W7 need Client for Microsoft Networks?

All settings on the Vista Sharing and Discovery are on.

TIA

Answer:Windows 7 machine cannot connect to Vista machine

I finally figured out that it was Vista machine firewall (AT&T Internet Security Suite by MacAfee) that was blocking the W7 machine from accessing the Vista machine.

After I checked the box in Port and System Services to allow RDP access, I was able to access both the Vista computer and its attached printer from the W7 machine.

Have a crashed Win10 machine. Tried to "reset" it with a downloaded iso, but this didn't work--maybe the iso was NG.
Anyway, now it won't boot at all. This machine was upgraded from Win 8.1 and I have no paid install disk for it.
However, I do know the correct Windows key for the system that crashed. Can I use a paid install disk that I installed on another system, and put in the key code for the crashed system in order to get it back up and running?

Thanx for all assistance--doug

Answer:Use paid install disk on another machine with the other machine's key

You can download windows 10 setup media > https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/techbench

Here's a strange issue--at least I think it's strange. I have an old application that I've had since I had Win XP. I'm not sure but I think I had it even on Win 98. Even though it's an old app I was able to install and run in on Vista and Windows 7. I now have the pre-release Win 8 installed on VMware Player and I was wondering if it would run in Win 8. So I opened Win 8 and put in the CD, clicked on the setup.exe file and it installed--or so it seemed. It always installed a short cut on my desk top before. So I looked and didn't see it. It was supposed to have installed in a particular folder, but I couldn't find it. I then installed it again and chose to put a short cut on the desk top. But, it wasn't there. The bottom line is that even though I had Win 8 open in the guest, I discovered that it actually instaledl on Win 7--on the host machine even though I installed it while the guest machine was open. Has anyone seen anything like that before? I suppose it happened because it was such an old app.

Answer:App installed on host machine while in guest machine

When you put the cd into your drive, it fired the autoplay on your host machine and not within your Windows 8 VM. It installed on your Windows 7 host machine. If you had been in the VM, and launched the setup from within the VM, it would not have installed on your host machine. PERIOD.

Hey all, I just got an awesomely unexpected birthday present of a new emachine T2862 that has XP on it, saving me from having to scrape up the dough to replace my 5-year-old CompUSA Home Series refurb-p.o.s. Although I think I remember reading somewhere that emachines were not that good, but I believe it should at least be an improvement over the old one, being 5 times faster and with 5 times bigger hard drive! Expecially considering I'm just about broke financially.

I haven't even opened the box yet, I want to do my homework first on what I need to do... I want to transfer a lot of files from my old computer to the new one. From what I've been reading here, it seems like my best bet is to get some kind of transfer cable -- exactly what kind, where can I get one, and about what will it cost? I've never hooked up 2 computers to each other before, and I don't know what's involved... if it helps, this old thing is running Windows 98, and what I want to transfer is:

1) my music - mostly copied off of CDs and stored in windows media player playlists, I don't want to have to re-copy them b/c the reason I copied them to the computer is some of the CDs had been played so much they were getting warped/scratched etc, besides it's time-consuming - I know copying from one computer to the other doesn't save much time, but it would save me from having to keep sticking in the next CD, doing the copy, and then having to re-type in the library i... Hi.

I have a network problem. My windows 7 machine is not detecting win xp machine whereas win xp machine is detecting win 7 machine.
They are in the same workgroup named Home. And the networking system is set to work. I have left the homegroup I was previously in. I enabled file sharing for devices that use 40 bit and 50 bit encryption.
On XP I have enabled NetBios over TCP/IP.
File sharing is enabled on both computers.
I think it's something obvious as both instalations on different computers are really fresh and both windows haven't been tampered with.

Thank you for your assistance.

Situation: Win 8 Lenovo laptop is borked - necessitating reinstalling the OS - decided to ditch Win 8 (hatedit) to go with something that works, i.e. Win 7 Pro. The laptop uses UEFI.

Steps, as I understand them: please correct any errors.

Having removed laptop HDD and confirmed it is working and wiped it using my desktop, reinstalled.

Connect USB media into Desktop and format it for FAT32,
Copy Win 7 Pro 64 disk onto USB
Insert USB into laptop, boot and install from USB

Anything I am missing?

Answer:Installing Win 7 Pro onto a UEFI Machine (formerly Win 8 machine) - Check me, pls.

Download the Windows USB tool here.

This will load the iso of win7 to a usb pen and make it bootable for the installation.

I have basically two questions.
1) does anyone know if Aloha Bob's PC Relocator Ultra can work with Vista?

2) Is anyone aware of anyproducts, preferably shareware or freeware that can migrate both data/settings and programs from Win98 to Vista Home Premium?

Thanks

Answer:Moving from a Win98 machine to a Vista Machine

I don't imagine there are any software apps with that feature - any of them new enough to work with Vista would likely not bother with Win98. Data won't be hard to migrate, but I don't imagine Win98 programs would work the same on Vista... You will probably have to reinstall the programs - if they are compatible. (My CD burning software, for example, was compatible with XP but caused the PC to not boot when I tried to install it on Vista) Settings are probably going to be a lot different on Vista vs. Win98...

You cannot use the key with the upgrade. You have to actually allow 7 to see the XP installation first. Then you do a custom install (clean). Just finally upgraded myself.

Am I out of options? I returned my first yoga 720 I ordered from lenovo ca which had the black line defect. I submitted it for repair and eventually they told me they would just send me a replacement. Well the replacement has come and it has the exact same black line defect. I start dental school in the next month so I absolutely cannot wait another month for a replacement that has no guarantees it doesn't have the same defect. What are my options?  1. send it for refund. I don't want to do this -- the laptop costs $2800 canadian and they take a 15% restocking fee.2. get a lenovo tech onsite to repair it by upgrading my warranty. This seems the most plausible right now but I'd hate to pay for something that isn't my fault. Any other suggestions? Is there some way to fix it myself?

Does anybody know how to set the new Machine Type and Serial Number after a motherboard replacement for an H535? The motherboard recently failed on my H535 (about 7 months after the warranty expired--thanks, Lenovo). No local repair shops would agree to replace it due to its propietary nature (thanks, Lenovo). I spent about four hours on the phone being bounced back-and-forth between numerous (usually confused) Lenovo support personnel in sales, technical support, IBM parts support, and various other departments (thanks, Lenovo), one of whom suggested that I might have to try to find a motherboard on Ebay or Amazon for my less-than-2-year-old computer. However, I was finally able to get to someone at Lenovo who was capable of selling a motherboard--for 2/3 the cost of the original computer. I have now installed the motherboard, and it is working. However, upon every boot-up I am getting a POST error with two beeps that reads as follows:     Error 00CE: Machine Type and Serial Number are INVALID     Manufacturing Boot Sequence will be taken if no selection is made I presume the BIOS on the new motherboard needs to be programmed with the correct Machine Type and Serial Number from my computer. Hi guys,

We got a brother 4100e setup yesterday and we're having issues in the office now. We originally had 2 fax machines, one only for outgoing faxes, and we used the copier for incoming/outgoing.

We got the brother so that the copier wouldnt be tied up with people trying to fax. I switched the line back over to the brother (ive tried a new fax cord line as well). Some faxes go out fine but yesterday and today we've had a few incoming faxes that didn't come through (usually they do) and even some outgoing faxes yesterday that did go through. Thing is, SOME DID go through just a few didn't.

When we switched back to the copier it worked once but I'm trying again to make sure someone who recently faxed us can get through to the copier, and not to the brother, just for testing.

Any ideas? The brother is setup for Easy Receive. thanks

Forgot to mention: We use a 3 way line splitter on that line that is labeled 1,2,1+2 and the first two ports (1 and 2) are used. The other line goes to a mailing machine or something. The activity report for yesterday on the brother shows a couple NG which means "Poor Line Condition / Out of Memory" and a couple BUSY.

I'm trying to send about 1.5m total of multiple files to four win98 pc's from a win98 pc on a home network without domain through open c-drive shares. The sending pc starts to send the files and then errors out with an illegal operation. If I unmap one of the pc's and then send the batch again, it works no problem. It doesn't matter which one of the four pc's I unmap, the process works. But four is too much for it. Can't figure it out. Someone had mentioned MTU, but I'm not sure where to find that setting or if that is even an option really. Anyone shed some light on this problem or point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Zig

Answer:Batching to 4 pc's from one machine crashing machine

I don't think your MTU settings are your problem. Highly doubtful. However, I don't really understand how you are sending the files. Are you batching to them all at one time or are you sending the files to mapped drive A first, then waiting for it to finish and then sending it to drive B, then waiting for it to finish and then sending it to drive C and then the 4th one after that?

What does your batch file look like? I know it is most likely irrelevant, but might be worth posting.

I'm looking to build a new machine, as mine is well over a couple of years old. I was wondering if anybody knows the difference in between a computer gaming machine, and a graphics machine? I do a lot of graphics on here, but also weill be getting back into gaming.

Answer:Gaming Machine Vs. Graphic Machine

Everyone i know who does graphics has a mac, (shudder)
and everyone i know who plays games has a PC,

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2282754844569110939&q=mac

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6553260189868317794&q=mac

Heh, i know this didnt help you out to much, but i couldnt resist.

Knowing not jack about graphics, I would think that the better processor and vid card you can get, with lots of ram, you should be able to do pretty much anything. Games take computing power, as do graphics from my understanding, so i would think the higher end rig you can get, the better off you will be.

Ok, this 'brilliant' idea I just had to save time and aggravation can't be possible--but I have to ask.

I have OEM Win10 + apps/data on my recent Lenovo P50.

I've installed a third party BIOS on my old Lenovo T61 (to run SATA II), replaced the cooling fan and will install a replacement SSD.

The P50 is twice the drive size as the T61's pending SSD 'but' the installed data on the P50 is less than the physical size of the T61.

If I restore (Reflect free current version) an image of the P50 to a clean T61 SSD would I get a properly functional Win10 identical to the information on the P50?

Answer:Can I image machine a to a new drive machine b?

Yes, the T61 has Win7 activated long ago that was an update from the longer ago OEM Vista.

Not activating kills my idea.

I'll just go ahead and do the previously downloaded Win10 iso and forget the bright idea.

My son's XP machine is channeling The Police. There appears to be a Ghost In The Machine. He has a Dell OptiPlex GX520. I bought it for him 4-5 years ago from a shop that recycles computers from businesses and sells them to the public.Last he told me that the computer has developed a vibration that causes an annoying buzz. I told him that if he brings it over, I'll take a look at it. Then he told me about a stranger problem.Since the buzz was annoying, he had started to turn the machine off via Start...Turn Off Computer. What's weird is that the computer has started to turn itself on in the middle of the night. He'll turn it off before he goes to bed and then wake up to hear it buzzing a few hours later. He now unplugs it every night.Any idea why the machine would power itself on? He connects to the internet via a wireless router rented from TWC. Hello,

I regularly encounter the same problem that i can not access or see a XP machine from my W7 machine I could see before in my network. The strange thing is that remote desktop still works. The other way around stll works: I can see the W7 macine on my xp machine.
The only solution I can use to fix the problem is to do a system-repair.
At first this issue appeared after updating ms defender definitions. But yesterday it appeared just after a new startup without any update or change of settings on anything.

I'm completely dazzled about the cause of this problem.
I would like to know the real issue so i can use a proper fix instead of doing a system-repair every now and then.

any suggestions?

couple of quick questions if I may,

1, is the Windows 7 machine assigned to a static IP on your router?
2. what is the IP of the Windows 7 machine? you can find this by opening command prompt and typing ipconfig /all if your behind a router it will probably look like 192.168.1.x
3. Have you actually shared any folders on the win 7 machine?
4. do you have password protected sharing OFF (this can be configured from network and sharing centre>turn off password protected sharing

I have my first windows 7 computer on my home network, and it appears to me I have outgoing networking, but not incoming. On the Windows 7 computer, I can get to the router and the Internet, and can access shared folders on Vista machines on the home network. The computer name "advertising protocol" works as the name of the Windows 7 computer in the "Network" user interface on the Vista machines (the user interface accessed from Network and Sharing Center by 'view computers and devices"), but attempting to access it gets a "cannot access" error, and attmepting to diagnose gets a "cannot find" error. For whatever it is worth, highlighting the icon in the "network" user interface does not show anything for "location".

I am going through this to get shared folders on the Windows 7 computer visible on other computers on the network. Obviously this is not working. Just to recap the configuration:
1) all computers on the network are members of same Workgroup
2) My documents on the Windows 7 computer are shared read-write with everyone
3) advance sharing options show:
Network discovery ON
File and print sharing ON
Public folder sharing ON
128 bit encryption
Password protected sharing OFF
IPv6 disabled
Homegroup stuff either OFF or ON and managed by Windows (but this is irrelevant)
4) firewall off

A observation:
I noticed something funky with MacIDs. the router - when the Windows 7 computer authenticates - sh... Read more

Answer:Cannot ping W7 machine from any vista machine

Why is IPv6 disabled? You do realize that IPv6 is only used on the LAN and is needed for Homegroups to work correctly. Maybe you were just thrown off by the first picture below which is only telling you that IPv6 is not connected to the WAN because it's not supposed to be.

The second picture shows it as enabled for the LAN.
It doesn't matter much either way unless you are Homegroup, but Homegroup only works with Windows 7 computers. For Vista and Win 7 you need to use either workgroup or public file sharing. You also need to enable file sharing on the Vista machine.

You should not need to turn the firewall off.

Are you sure that you are sharing the correct group. There is a seperate public file sharing settings page but the workgroup and homegroup use the same settings page.

Maybe you were thrown off because there are two settings pages. The third picture is the Homegroup and Workgroup settings page and the fourth one is for the Public file sharing.

I have an older IBM unit and now a new Asus unit.

I would like to take programs and what not from the older unit, with a dying hard drive, to the newer unit.

Best method?
Ethernet transfer?
Files and folders transfer has serial cable option, I am looking to move several 100's GB of things.
Windows Backup? Or MG Backup?

Answer:Old machine New machine, moving data from one to other

i found a serial cable, not a db-9 to db-9 at tigerdirect.com. it's a "Diablotek CA-1638 USB 2.0 to 9-Pin RS232 DB9 Serial Adapter".

I did find a db-9 Female to db-9 female somewhere else, cablesforless.com. It's a "6 Foot Serial DB9 Female to Female".

Win 10 machine has fileshare being accessed by XP and MAC machines without problems.
Trying to connect a Win 7 machine but it insists that the login does not have access to the share.
The login and password are valid. The share and security is open to everyone. All machines are in the same workgroup.
The win 7 machine can see other machines on the net and the Win10 machine can see into shares on the Win 7 box.

So it is just the win7 => win10 that is the problem.

I have an orange crossover cable that I have connected to both machines and I set up sharing on both but the Windows XP machine doesn't show the 8.1 machine. I'm trying to pull some movies and music off my 8.1 laptop because I use my XP desktop as a media server of sorts.

I can't figure out how to get them to recognize each other and my connection just says "limited."

Can someone help?

Answer:How do I share files between 8.1 machine and XP machine

Just like you did in XP. Right click on the folder and in Sharing, choose to share. In Network Connections. Set security for 40/56. Turn off Home Group.

Hi,

Hope you all doing good !!

Am trying to connect my vm machine on a host server from another machine in the same network, however its not successful. Below are the details:

Host machine- win 7

IPv4: 192.168.11.120
gateway- 192.168.11.1

VM machine- win 2008 server r2

IPv4: 192.168.22.140
gateway- 192.168.22.2
DHCP- disable
DNS server- 192.168.22.2

RDC enable from firewall
static IP as in IPv4
user with Admin rights created

Tried in both the below settings.
VM settings in Bridge
VM settings in NAT- host-9997, ip:192.168.22.140 vm port: tried both 22 and 3389

I can connect the host machine from another computer in the same network. Also I can connect the VM from host via RDC in the same machine, but not able to connect the VM from another computer in the same network.

Please let me know where is exact issue is and what am missing.

Thank you in advance.

So I have an older machine that is set up correctly. I want to image that old machine, and image it to the new machine. But is there a trick to doing that since the machine is a whole different model?

Answer:Have old machine. Want to image it, and transfer to new machine. Possible?

Clone it with clonezilla to a new disk (or one that you do not care about overwriting all the data) and then boot. In linux you have a very high chance of success. In windows the chance is lower but since windows XP even that is high enough to try. For windows you probably want to put your SATA ports in IDE emulation mode otherwise you are likely to get a blue screen on boot due to the OS not using the AHCI driver by default.

Emachine with vista basic and the lexmark 5470 prinetr software went right in with no problems.

The problem:
If I try to boot up with the usb printer cable attached, it just sit's there and never completely boots up and No device manager issues.

If I un-plug the usb printer cable and boot it, all is fine...... I can even plug the usb printer cable back in at that point and everything works.

This is very annoying to say the least...... Any ideas?

Ok, here's the deal. Have a client who is updating her hardware from a system that is 10+ years old to a new ASUS CM5570 machine. The new machine is running Vista Home and my customer wishes to have Windows XP on it instead as she has programs specific to XP that runs her business machines (various printers and embroidery machines). I get XP installed just fine with the exception that it does not recognize all of the peripherals that are embedded on the mobo (notably the NIC, wireless, and other USB based hardware). There are no drivers that are loaded up on the XP install to support these features. So, I re-installed the Vista from the recovery partition and did a driver backup using DriverMax to my flash drive. If this does not work I'm not real certain where to go next. The ASUS driver pack is only for Vista or Windows 7. Any ideas?

Hi Folks:

In the near future, I'm hoping to run the Consumer Preview of Threshold, so I'm attempting to get Windows 8.1 installed now to ensure that I'm ready and working. Plus I'd like to play around a bit with Windows 8.1.

I've realized that my system and my processor in particular won't support a 64-bit guest. So I'm trying to install the x86 build of Windows 8.1. Before I search for a source, will my system support this? My specs should be listed, but here are the relevant processor/system details.

HP xw8200 (two Xeon 3.68 GHz Processors - Netburst/P4 Style)
DEP can be enabled. I do NOT have NX.
Host OS: Vista Ultimate x64

I really wish I could just find a junker system to test out the OSs and see if I like them, but what is needed for a "junker" PC now is quite substantial.

Answer:Virtual Machine Issues

Windows 8 and 8.1 require PAE, NX and SSE2. In Windows 7 and prior NX was recommended but not required. It is now required.
These requirements will likely remain the same in future systems. More may be added.

All hardware in a virtual machine is virtualized, except the CPU. These features must be present in the CPU or it cannot support Windows 8 in a virtual machine.

Hello again! I'll get right to the point:

I need a free virtual machine that has the ability to boot from a USB drive (I have Ubuntu Linux 10.04 installed on it as bootable). If there isn't is there some way I can "trick" the computer or the Virtual Machine to think my USB drive is a hard disk?
Thank you so much in advance!

Answer:Virtual Machine Issues

A virtual machine needs an OS to run. It can't run by itself or be booted. Yes, there are virtual machines that run from USB and host other operating systems. But they must be run inside an already booted OS.

But what, exactly, are you trying to accomplish?

Hello All,

I help a friend that has an E-Machine W3052....running XP. Problem, when you turn on the machine, you get the "E" logo...at the bottom it say "Press <F-2> for Bios Setup & Press <F-10> for Boot setup". Now when I press any of this (F-2 or F-10) I can not go any further.

BUT...when I disconnct the HD cable, I CAN get into the Bios or Boot set up. I then set it up to boot with the CD-Rom first. Then I save it and re-boot. (My friend has 4 CD recovery also). It say it can not detect the HD, so I power the machine off, re-connect the HD cable, & start over.....I can not get any further than the "E" logo. I evn took out the battery for about a 1/2 hour. I've tried taking out the "Ram" and re-installing it.

Any suggestions....PLEASE ???

Recently my Vista machine has started doing a few strange things. I will outline them below as best I can, please let me know if you need further details.

I have run Spybot, Adaware, AVG and they have found nothing.

* I am occasionally get new tabs appearing in Firefox with unwanted advertising. The URL usually contains several terms that I have used in Google.
* I have received a message: "DCOM Server Process Launcher etc" and it wants me to restart my machine.
* I think this machine, which is quite new and fairly quick, has slowed down somewhat since these problems started.

I hope someone can help me with this.

Regards,
Andrew

I routinely run the malware scanners and SAS found some things in a program I use for managing pre-payroll info. Not good! Also ran RootRepeal and found issues with my MBR and disk sectors. RootRepeal recommended I raise the disk access level. I will admit I did not "remove" AVG Free 2012 before running combofix. I disabled it for the duration of the scan and combofix did its job without throwing up the usual AV warning. I also shutdown my Zonealarm software firewall. I have reinstalled AVG 2010 thru 2012 a couple of times each previously because when I am in the user interface there seems to be something wrong with it. I see HTML-type language in the right pane of the window and the lower notification (can provide screenshot). My other machines display this correctly with the graphical equivalent of the code shown in mine. I am wondering if something is on my machine that is causing this anomaly. I can find no other reference to this odd behavior of the AVG user interface. Malwarebytes found some things that I legitimately downloaded from the MG site to use on office machines but I let it quarantine them anyway. Logs attached.

My computer was infected with a Trojan from a bad video link I believe.
Problems:
Unable to use System restore.
Unable to change the default audio device from VIA HD Audio Output to Plantronics Headset.
When in Firefox a new tab opening advertising a 'virus removal' tool.
Whilst in Firefox I recieve an erropr pop up saying

'Generic Host Process for Wind32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'

And then asks me to send an error report to Microsoft.

AVG free edition found 6 files, only 3 of which it could fix.
I then ran Adaware, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebyte's Antimalware, all of which found several files, and managed to sucessfully remove these files, though re running scans would find new files to be removed.

I tried to Run System restore but couldn't, in normal mode it would shutdown windows perform the restore but upon restarting windows would inform me that it couldn't restore to this point and to pick another restore point, this happened on the multiple restore points I tried.
In Safe mode System restore wouldn't run giving the error message:

'system restore is not able to protect your computer, please restart your computer and run system restore again'

I then ran Combofix, since doing this I can't find any infected files when I run any scans but my system still seems to be infected, as none of the issues have been resolved including the tab opening in fi... Read more

Good Day to all. Just bought a new Dell laptop with Win 7. Went through the initial windows data entry, but fat fingered the user name and now cant remember exactly what got typed into that line..

Can only get to blue login screen with box in the middle of screen, one line for user name and one line for password with arrow to the right of it.

I'm really not sure what I typed in there to start with. I know, I know, what a goof.
Could I possibly use a recovery disk from a similarly built laptop to start things all over again? I have another dell from 2 months ago, inspiron as well, just different model with Win 7 as well.

Thanks and good luck with my question.

Steve

First-time poster on the board, hoping to tap some of the expertise here.

I have an Acer desktop running Windows Vista and I'm having a few issues with it. First and foremost is the loss of Internet connectivity. The network and sharing center reports that it can only access the network locally. I've tried looking through IP and proxy settings, and even reset the Winsock and IP stack. I also tried to determine whether it was software or hardware by booting an Ubuntu live disc and try to get online and even installed a temporary PCI ethernet card, neither of which worked.

Also, whenever shutting down (a process which can take upwards of 10 minutes) I get a BSOD attributed to a "DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE" for which I've attached the dump file.

Finally, plug and play doesn't seem to work. I only noticed this when trying to copy the dump to a flash drive and the drive was not recognized either by connecting to the onboard USB or additional connectors.

Any help I can get here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi

Last year a bought a new machine. I also ordered a w10 copy but when I got the machine it was already installed. The very first night I booted it it refused to shut down with some error (can't remember which one) and I had to use system restore. This happened 3 times in a row so I decided to format and re-install w10 myself. Remember: this is not an upgrade, it's installed from a w10 installation disc.

Before I formatted I had another problem, which still occurs and is where I need help. Sometimes if I power up the machine it's powered on for 30 seconds-1 minute and shuts down automatically. Nothing is shown on screen, no power is going to the mouse or keyboard. Other times if I power it up it stays on but again: no power to screen, keyboard & mouse. This is when I have to reset it myself.
Other times though the machine just boots like normal instantly.

It is very annoying because sometimes it takes up to 10 minutes before I get the normal boot and I get to use the damn thing. Any experiences with this problem and how to fix it? It seems very unlikely to me that formatting it again will change the tide?

GrTz

Answer:Booting issues with w10 machine

First of all, please fill up your System Specs, it will help us to know the hardware and related environment.
You may take help of Speccy if you are not sure about the hardware.

You power the machine up from a shut down, and the power up reacts in three different ways.
It gets on for 30 seconds, and then shuts down.It powers on, but not the screen, keyboard and mouse. It boots normally.
And it happens at random.

We need to see what is booting up with the OS. Please upload your system information file.
