Question: Computer acting slow - details inside.

Hello, community of Bleeping Computer. I have come to this forum for aid of a rather ongoing problem. Yesterday, the computer (which I am currently using), had a very terrible fan problem, which was localized to the Graphics card. After cleaning the fan out, with some compressed air, the fan problem was fixed, albeit temporarily. Ironically another problem has occurred. Before fixing the fan, the PC was running fine; the programs ran under reasonable conditions with great response time. Now, any internet browser like FireFox, or Internet Explorer is inoperable. They will not start up. To add, most of the processes that I happen to run, occur at a very sluggish pace, like a snail crawling down a skyscraper. Trying to load up pages on the internet or opening simple programs take minutes to open up. This shouldn't be happening. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Computer Specifications:Windows 7 Home premium editionProcessor: AMD Phenom II X4 910Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 43508 GBs or RAM Thanks for reading,--Shotgun Nova

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Now a few quick cleaners -
Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.RKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/IExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/
Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.
When the scan is done Notepad will open with RKill log.
Post it in your next reply.
NOTE. RKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

AdwCleaner
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode from HERE and save to your Desktop.
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it.
If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.. If not press "Clean"
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
If an error is made, the items can be restored from Quarantine

I'm writing for help in regards to my husband's computer which has recently started running VERY slowly. The problem seems to specifically run around using Internet Explorer. His computer is an older, re-built IBM thinkpad but he has never had problems with it until recently. He runs Windows XP. Every time he opens Internet Explorer he can't block pop-ups and it's to the point that the program won't even open or stay open for more than a few minutes before it encounters an error and needs to shut down. His e-mail program (these are the two main programs he uses) Microsoft Outlook runs fine except when Internet Explorer is open. I ran a Hijack This log in hopes that maybe someone could help me find what's wrong and how to fix it!

Here's the HJT log:

hi, i have had help here before and seem to need it again. My problem is not with any pop-ups or malware it seems, but my computer is running VERY slow. It has only been in the past month or so that it has been running slow. Mainly it is Internet Explorer that is very slow. Other processes are slow, but not nearly as slow. Please let me know what other information will help.

I have an IBM T43 laptop with Windows XP Pro.
-Version 2002, Service Pack 2.
-Intel Pentium M Processor 2.00 GHz, 798 MHZ, 1.00 GB RAM (came with 512, I added a 512 stick myself). I have many programs on the computer, too many to list. (As an aside, Adobe Acrobat does not work anymore either and I cannot figure out how to remove it for the life of me. If I open a PDF with IE or Mozilla, it freezes both. Also, when opening a pdf with adobe, it appears in Arabic/computer language. Just on case this makes any difference.)

I have MacAfee antivirus and it has ben detecting a few viruses here lately. Most recently was today, it was an Exploit-MS06-014 Trojan running through explorer.exe.

Also, I have all the file logs available of my MacAfee scans, if needed. I will paste my most recent HiJackThis log.

Okay, this computer is about a month old and already its loading extremely slow. The small yellow light below the power button is constantly flashing (indicating constant work) and the system is starting up extremely slow.

I've done the following since I got it:

Downloaded about 30 gigs of information
Tried making my computer uPnP compatible, which failed because I run through a modem
I turned off all non-microsoft services except the one that updates my anti-virus software
I turned off all the start-up programs except the ones I thought "might" be my keyboard so that my media controls would work, which I have no idea which one it was

I've thought about a few things. My computer might be acting wierd because of the uPnP stuff I did. It might be trying to use services that programs I activated on startup doesn't have (because I turned on anything that might be my keyboard)

I'll post my HijackThis log in a few moments.

Answer:Windows XP loading amazingly slow (details inside)

One more thing, I've been getting attacked by some virus or trojan or something named "Helkern" and my virus scanners don't pick it up, they just alert me that it's blocked.

I'm new here and trying my best to abide by the posting procedure.

Details:
I have run ad-aware, spybot search and destroy, and cw shredder. They all delete some spyware/adware but always say some could not be deleted. I tried running them in safe mode but still couldn't deleted all of it. Every once and a while when I get online, a new window will open saying I may be infected by the "black worm" virus and it advises me to download their anti virus software. I'm not sure if this is just a trick, so I haven't downloaded it. The popups range from casinos to online shopping(dunno if that helps or not). My desktop looks blurry and the icons have a strange grey shadow to them as if they're selected(but they're not). Homepage was also changed to c:\secure32.html it will not allow me to change it back.

So, I got a new laptop last week, and ever since unboxing it, I've been getting two different BSODs:
- BAD_POOL_HEADER
- DRIVE_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
This usually happens when DISK is at 100% usage, by whatever reason. There have been a number of different programs or even System that has caused it to be near 100% usage.

For the questions:
? OS - WINDOWS 8
? 64 BIT
? What was original installed OS on system? - WINDOWS 8
? Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? - Came pre-installed.
? Age of system (hardware) - 1 week old.
? Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? - Has never done so. So 1 week old.

? CPU - 8 GB Memory, Intel Core i7 Haswell
? Video Card - Intel
? MotherBoard - It's the one in default Lenovo IdeaPad y410P
? Power Supply - Lenovo, 110W standard U.S.

? System Manufacturer - Lenovo
? Exact model number (if laptop, check label on bottom) - Y410P

Will attach the logs after I finish installing 7Zip.

Ever since i bought the computer, it has been a little weird.  every once in a while the computer would freeze up for a little bit and then resume running fine after 10 seconds.  As time went on the frequency of these events increased and the length of the lag increased. I recieved a few bsods with "internal power error".  I replaced the 750 watt psu with an 800 watt psu which didnt completely fix my problem, but changed it.  Boot is still slow, but occasionally it goes quite fast (still not as fast as it should) and the computer runs smoother with less freezing but it still happens and it is still a nuisance.  I have tried several clean windows installs.  i got some errors and warnings in the event viewer i will post that text below the system specs.  chkdsk didnt help either, im thinking about doing another one.

Hi, recently installed a new cpu motherboard and graphics card. Reinstalled windows, and now the machine is crashing occasionally. It crashes anywhere between instant on start up or 40 minutes into browsing. I uploaded the zip file per your BSOD posting instructions.

I've done a little researching on my own and I think it may have to do with the Realtek audio controller conflicting with my nvidia graphics card in some way. Although since the computer is blue screening I'm hoping your diagnoses might help me figure out if that is actually the problem.

So, recently when attempting to log on to my computer, I found that it prompted me for a log on password, which i had disabled the last time I had the computer running. A blank password did not work, and my old password did not work. Neither did any of my normal passwords for other services. After no luck, I decided to remove the CMOS battery for an hour to make it forget the passwords.

After reinstalling the CMOS battery, I attempted to boot the computer. Nothing appeared via my Monitor and the PC refused to stop trying to run the empty CD drive. I placed in a Windows installation CD to see if that would resolve my issue. It did not. (It may be worth noting here that my drive, despite having proper firmware and all up to date drivers, is not capable of reading 90% of CDs, nor burning CDs, but has no problems with reading or burning DVDs)

I then shut down the computer again, removed plugs and such as per usual to avoid ESD, flushed the power out and unplugged the CD Drive. Hooked everything up again and attempted to boot. With no hookup to the CD drive, the CD drive did not attempt to read, but the computer simply ran doing nothing. It did not attempt to read the floppy drive (It is a newer computer, I always install a FDD for repair purposes.) Nor did it attempt to read the HDD.

I shut it down again, checked all connections and can't seem to figure out what's wrong. No pieces appear burned out. Attempted boot again, same problem. Could not enter BIOS settings... Read more

Here is my hardware that's relevant to this issue.ASUS Motherboard, don't remember what model or brand specificallyAMD Athlon 64 X2 processor.Radeon X1600 video card2GB OCZ Gold RAM660W I think 24 pin PSU with one of those 4pin connectors. So we had a power outage as I said in the subject.  Everything in the house turned back on just fine except my computer.  I tried testing the power supply and every light lit up except the +5v LED, which I don't know if that means anything because I don't know how to read a power supply tester precisely.  The power supply will not and I mean will not power up at all if it's connected to the mother board but if it's disconnected it powers up all my fans and stuff just fine.  There's the LED indicator on my motherboard that indicates power is getting into the motherboard but it's noticeably dimmer than normal and when I unplug the power supply while it's connected to the motherboard the light slowly fades out and then suddenly lights up really bright for a split second before going out.  Is it my motherboard that died or the PSU, based on the information I provided?

I am in the progress of building a computer on a budget, specifically something that will run games such as Everquest 2 and World of Warcraft better then my 1GHz Celeron with 512MB RAM, SoundBlaster Live 5.1, and an ATI Radeon 9200 GFX Card...

My new computer, I am planning on an aproximate 670 dollar budget, that has to include EVERYTHING! My plans were:

For a case, I was planning on a case from XPG Gear, features include
- Power Lab 450 watt power supply
- 4 CD/DVD bays, 2 Floppy Drive bays, and 5 HardDrive bays
- 1 Side, Front, Back, and Bottom fans.
- Thumb Screws
- The option to get 2 Fans included instead of 1
- Alien Head Resemblence

I was planning on getting a combo from SMKSUPERSTORE that comes with
- P4 3.0GHz Processor
- Arctic Silver Alumina Thermal Compound
- Ultra Performance Copper Core Fan & Heatsink, Under 135* Under High Load
- IS7 Motherboard (INTEL 865PE) that supports HT, has a 800MHz FSB, AGP 8x, and got 9/10 in 4 reviews I read.
- 256 RAM Stick
- 3 Year Warranty on both CPU and Motherboard
**********$355**********
I also plan to put more memory in from 4AllMemory
- PC3200 Dual Channel 1GB Stick
- Lifetime Warrenty

I also plan on keeping my SoundBlaster Live 5.1 and trasnferring it over to my new setup.
On top of that, I expect to have to keep 25 bucks on hand when I find myself out of screws, in need of a cable, missing a fan or any other excuse that causes me to ... Read more

Well i got a problem... again.

Different computer then last time, i was having trouble with a display driver not responding on my vista computer (NVLDDMKM) and i saw that a couple people tried putting in the graphics card into a slot, or just reseating them (to clear catch i think) so i turned of computer opened it took out the graphics card, put it right back in, closed the computer and turned it on...

it stayed on for 8 seconds.

I had the same problem when i got the computer before and the people who built it said it was a faulty powersupply and sent me a new one.

I also read that some of the NVLDDMKM errors can be caused by a weak power supply, so i was wondering if a 500watt powersupply sounds like its enough to power the comp (specs below) and if its not the issues if anyone has any idea what might be wrong (btw the motherboard lights are still on and green)

Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe nForce 570-SLI

Recently my computer has been freezing, I try playing games and it doesnt work at all, It keeps freezing, eve the most simplyist games such as dance online, Even my computers freezing to type this.

It was never like this,
Ive done everything humanly possible to fix this problem, Ive done disk defrags, Ive done registry defrags ive even used like 5 virus scanners to get to the problem, And they found worms but they fixed that, So i need some personal opinons.
I cleaned my start-ups, I spent 3 days on this to clean the computer and i feel i wasted them.
I have 22gb free space l;eft on my computer.
And my Cpu is unuseally high, its at 40% with nothing running...all it is a virus scanner that isnt scanning.
My laptop is on high preformance.
Thanks.

Trying to access one of my hard drives resulted in My Computer locking up, and upon ending the process explorer seems to get shut down. Task manager wouldn't come up so I'm forced to reset. Also trying to play something in winamp resulted in a sound driver error, when it was working fine beforehand.

I'm currently running Avast and MalwareBytes, and will keep this topic updated, I hope I can fix this....

If anyone has any input please share.

*EDIT*

I'm hoping this was just a random fluke and I'm being paranoid about nothing. Both MalwareBytes and Avast have come up with absolutely nothing on my main drive, though I'm still scanning my backup drive.

*EDIT*

Weird, all those problems stopped on their own, guess it was just a fluke.

Right, so my mother has had quite an issue with her computer for a long time. I never use the PC, so I haven't been able to actually experience all the symptoms. I believe she has a virus. And these are the symptoms I've experienced.

- Random freezing and crashing.
- Computer refuses to install Windows Updates. Even something as little as 1.0mb
- Couldn't install anti-virus software as if something was blocking it from finalizing the process.
- Avast anti-virus scans hangs on one thing indefinitely as if something is stopping it on purpose

I have tried using Malware Bytes to scan for anything but to no avail. And the avast just refuses to work.

First off, I have a Windows Premium Home Vista One, 32bit.

My computer was acting up and had frequent random shutdowns, so I decided to do the system recovery and restore it to factory settings. Everything was going great, I was putting all my files back into the computer when the frequent crahses started coming up. They would either come up after I tried rebooting the computer or about 5 minutes after I'm logged in and everything. It's where the blue screen comes up and usually either of these messages comes up with of course other text:

IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal

or

Bad_Pool_Caller

I heard it somehing to do with my drive or something, I'd appreciate any insight and help on this recurring issue. I'm really not that great with computers.

Thanks!
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ?

- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 5 years old

Ok well before I start off, I'd like to say that I have cleared the main annoyances of my problem. I registered here because I still think, however, that I am vulnerable to attacks. The firewall within Spy Sweeper is still picking up and blocking things.

The problem I had before included many different trojans and spyware, that got wrapped into a single download my sister got. Apparently she doesn't know not to open 21kb .exe files...

The precautions I've taken so far were as follows:
1. Turned off my internet, I knew a trojan would likely redownload itself until all of its virus and spyware files were removed. I put my internet back on when I thought this was the case.

2. Did a scan with AVG Anti-Virus Free, and it was unable to remove most of what it found... What remained, I was able to delete by finding manually with the help of the AVG logs. (Details about viruses will be below)

3. Did a scan with WebRoot Spy Sweeper, it found a lot of things and got rid of them. (Details about this will be below)

4. Found some IE plugins that didn't belong with the Spy Sweeper's Browser Helper Objects section and removed them. For the first time after doing that, I finally stopped having a hijacked homepage.

Anyway, the problems were as follows:
1. Homepage was jacked by one of a million different "your pc is insecure" programs that tried to sell me on scams. This one took me to uptodateprotection(dot)com (don't want to make a link), as well as syssecurityp... Read more

Hey everybody!

I recently managed to get my computer loaded with a number of different viruses. To make a long story short, I downloaded/ran an .exe program that I later found out was full of viruses/keyloggers.

I ran a bunch of scans (Malwarebytes, Avast, McAfee, then after I uninstalled McAfee, Kaspersky. Now everything seems to be back to normal. It might just be me, but my computer still seems a tiny bit slower than it was before all this happened (I'd like to put emphasis on the possibility that it could just be me being cautious). I'm also not sure if there are any keyloggers left, so I would really appreciate it if you guys could look through my logs or not to see if I'm clean.

Known [previous?] Viruses: Right after I opened up that deadly .exe file, my links from the google results page started taking me to RANDOM pages, with nothing to do with what I searched for. Shortly after, EVERY program that I would open up would have a few "error messages" before it, with just little pop up windows saying "Error C:/blahblah", and only after I exited out of 2 or 3 of those, would the program would open.
Also, I ran a virus scan the a couple nights back after I infected my computer, and when I looked at it in the morning, "Windows Police Pro" was up. Knowing this was a fake program, I closed out of it and deleted it via HKEYblah, and the task manager (and I also deleted the WPP files on my local disk). Next morning, it was back aga... Read more

Okay well the problem is my computer keeps freezing while I play games, directx games to be in specific but i havnt played any non direct x games.

Games I've played NBA live 2005, War3, CS:S, i never seem to freeze playing CS:S so it could be something else.

Another thing that could be taken note as that when I turn on my computer, my comp will freeze when it tests the memory in bios. Like it won't even say 'xxx OK' it'll just freeze. Then I restart and then it'll do it, but this is only sometimes, and ussaully always happens after I freeze during gameplay and have to restart.

I've tried formatting, and it didn't work, I've also tried uninstalling my firewire card that I installed recently which I thought was causing the problem, didn't help either. So anyone got any clues? I ran memtest on 700mb of my 1gb ram and all seems okay.

I've attached my DXDiag if you want to take a look at my system specs.

Answer:My Comp is unstable please help details inside

Sounds like a hardware problem. Bad memory or motherboard. Do you have more than one stick of RAM? If so try running the computer with just one. Some motherboards are picky about which brand and type of RAM you use.

I'm posting this from safe mode w/ networking as I don't know where else to turn.
I did a sfc scan and it stopped at 57% and I followed online instructions to obtain the sfc.txt. Here are the files unable to be fixed. The 2 corrupted are bcdedit.exe and wucltux.dll

Another thing to note. I've had this Lenovo y580 laptop for about a month and a half now and I've had to use "one key recovery" to wipe everything about 3 times. This thing will work fine for like 2 weeks then out of nowhere all these error messages and applications will start crashing. The HDD and memory health is fine from all scans from lenovo support they performed.

I only have warranty for hardware and I've been on the phone w/ them about a dozen times total. Now they want me to do a clean install by sending in recovery disks which would cost $60. Software warranty is extra $ which I'm very tight on. If I could manually try to fix this it'd be a godsend. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. I also use MSE and malwarebytes so don't think its a virus it must be a flaw in the system. Thanks very much

Answer:SFC Details inside. How do I fix these corrupted files?

Hello JJ, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Here's a clean copy of those files from my system in the ZIP file below. After you extract (drag and drop) them from the ZIP file to your desktop and unblock them, the TIP box below will explain how to replace them in your C:\Windows\System32 folder.

   Tip
You will need to take ownership and set permissions to "Allow" your account "Full Control" of the original file in your current installation before you will be allowed to replace it with the extracted copy.

If the system file is in use and you are unable to replace it with the extracted copy, then: Open a Command Prompt at boot.
Do steps 4B to 4D in this tutorial first to verify the drive letter of your Windows 7 drive. It's not always C: at boot.
Type in the command below to copy and replace the original file with the extracted replacement file.
Copy /Y "full path of extracted replacement file" "full path of original Windows 7 system file"
For example:
If the extracted replacement uDWM.DLL is on my desktop, then I would use type this in the command prompt at boot and press enter.

Copy /Y "C:\Users\User-name\Desktop\uDWM.dll" "C:\Windows\System32\uDWM.dll"

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Did you uninstall the previous cards drivers ? You could also try uninstalling and re-installing the new cards drivers. Also make sure the graphics card your using is selected as the default device.
I imagine you have enough RAM to not be causing problems.
You could also try installing the latest version of Nvidia Physx from their website.

My OS is Windows 8
I use Google Chrome as my default browser but this problem persists with Firefox and IE as well. As of right now facebook.com, twitter.com, and twitch.tv will not load at all. The worst of it all is these are the three sites that I most commonly use. I was able to use all of them perfectly fine last night before i went to bed, and now they will not load at all, while other sites load perfectly fine. When i run a ping test through the CMD prompt for these sites

Here are some troubleshooting tips I have tried already:
Check if theirs a browser update (none needed)
Clear cache, cookies, history, etc...
Run a malware scan (0 threats detected)
Run a Virus scan (o threats detected)
Try opening page while using https instead of http
Flush DNS through CMD prompt
Once again only these select few websites wont load while all others work perfectly fine..
Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated. This has been going on for nearly 3 hours now.

That is almost certainly an ISP problem
several US ISPs appear to be having network difficulties today and it is likely that they are all using the same routing

ok, 3 days ago my computer was working completely fine. that night i downloaded a zip file for a video. the next morning my comp told me that i needed to install "important updates" [which i think was just the windows sp2] and when the computer restarted i needed to install the latest version of java so i let that install and update.

then after all the updates were installed my computer started acting weird. i couldnt open pages like myspace.com, socialvibe.com, or my online school which is flvs.net, i also can't open pages where there are multiple images. i've tried to uninstall everything that updated so it was back to the way it was, but my browsers are unable to download and they're still unable to open myspace and the other sites. i use opera as my main browser, firefox when opera doesn't work, and chrome as my last resort. but i also have safari and IE installed but im unable to use them

i've tried to do a system restore to 3 days ago but it says the only restore point was 8/24/09 at 10:24 am, so that wont work.

so is there a way to make my computer work normally again? all i really want is to be able to download again and open the webpages b/c i REALLY REALLY need my school page to open any help will be much appriciated

Hello,

A little background:

Around a year ago I had signed up for Private Internet Access, which installs the TAP9 driver (OpenVPN I believe). I started to get blue screens on my machine (Win7 Ultimate x64), so I installed it on a 2nd Windows machine (identical OS). Same thing. As soon as I started the VPN, blue screen. I installed VirtualBox VM software, same thing on both machines. After trying various things, I ended up sending the motherboard back to ASRock (It was a Z87 Professional). They found nothing wrong, but I ended up doing a fresh install of Win7 and everything was great for about a year. Then I started having machine lockups and found out that my SSDs (Samsung 840 EVOs) were victim to the slowdowns that a lot of people were complaining about. I tried upgrading the firmware and running their "fix", then the blue screens started to happen again, this time at random times. Removed the drives, did a fresh install onto some WD Black drives, and everything was working fine. I thought the motherboard had finally crapped out as even with the onboard LAN ports, the network icon would end up with a yellow exclamation mark after about 5 minutes of usage. I had to use an add-on card to get it to work, so I decided to just build a pretty much brand new system.

I just built it today:
ASRock Extreme6/ac / Intel i7-5930K (brand new)
32Gb G.skill DDR4 (new)
Samsung 850 Pro (apparently these drives did not have the same problems as the 840s) (new) ... Read more

No one has any ideas either? I am stumped myself how this could happen. I tried connecting to a different router but with the same effect last night. Of course it's going through my FIOS router, but it kind of has to. I might try enabling the onboard Wi-Fi tonight and connecting via my phone's hotspot, I'm that much out of ideas.

This error message appears after Windows XP tries to load.

"Stop: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000135 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down."

I've tried rebooting in Safe Mode and Debugging mode. This message still appears. I've tried cleaning the inside, dusting it, putting a fan at it, and plugging it into different power sources. Still won't work.

I recently cleaned out a few viruses (VBS Solow and its variants), and this occurred after turning the computer on a few hours later.

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

So, my laptop has been freezing. But not exactly randomly. I can run AIM for roughly 5-10min without a freeze-up (aka, nothing works/opens, but I can still move the mouse). OR I can open up firefox and it will run no problems on about half of the sites/forums I usually browse. And lastly, I have tried to scan the computer several times, but it freezes up almost exactly halfway through (three times now), and then I can press the "Quarantine" button and it will freeze again halfway through deleting what's there (just tracking cookies).

I'm one of those people with a secondary computer, one for gaming, one for everything else. My laptop is that everything else computer, and it's quite annoying having to alt-tab out of my precious games. Worst case, I may resort to re-formatting.

If you need anymore information, I'd be happy to give it. I don't know the exact specs of the computer, as I really never cared what they were, being my secondary computer, and I can't open the system info without it freezing, so I did the best I could copying specs from a website then changing what I remembered. But it's a Dell Inspiron 1501, and you can look it up yourself if the below specs isn't enough information, or I might be able to help out.

Having a TON of problems with popup ads here the last week or so.

Seems to be OuterInfo and SetTheTrend or something majorly.

Sometimes I'll get a Visual C++ buffer overrun error which shuts down my desktop (goes blank) and forces a reboot.

Getting this error on startup also, if it matters:

Running WindowsXP (w/ all updates) and AVG (paid edition).

I have a GF8200a mobo.
I bought some ram a while back and recently one of the sticks kinda stopped working so I sent for a replacement. During that time I had 3 1 gig sticks of ram in this mother board working fine. Today I got my replacement stick from kingston and I put it in the 4th slot and went to boot the computer. It would start up but no display on the screen and none of my usb hardware (mouse keyboard) would come on. I removed the stick went back to my old configuration and got the same issue. Finally I started changing how many sticks I had in what configuration and found that if I had only 2 sticks in the computer would start fine no matter which 2 sticks were in. But as soon as I go to add a 3rd stick of RAM no matter which stick it is I would get the same issue as above. Computer starts but no display or USB.

What could this problem be.

Alright, I am using Windows Vista.

Since about three days ago I CANNOT logon into Msn Live Messenger nor the online Hotmail.com to check my e-mails.

It seems this problem also occurs when I try to buy things online like Ebay.

Msn Messenger gives me this error code: 80048820 (Extended: 80048439)

I tried all the suggest things in the Help Topic. Nothing worked.

The last suggestion is to :"Reregister the SSL security libraries"

In Windows Vista, click the Start button, and then click in the Start Search box.
Type each of the following commands, and then press ENTER. After each command is executed successfully, you will receive a "DllRegisterServer succeeded" message. Wait until you receive this message before continuing to the next command.

* REGSVR32 softpub.dll
* REGSVR32 wintrust.dll
* REGSVR32 initpki.dll
* REGSVR32 Rsaenh.dll
* REGSVR32 Mssip32.dll
* REGSVR32 Cryptdlg.dll
* REGSVR32 Dssenh.dll
* REGSVR32 Gpkcsp.dll
* REGSVR32 Slbcsp.dll
* REGSVR32 Sccbase.dll

When I enter about half of the entries I get an error(The ones in bold):

So should I re-download the missing stuff? I don't understand wintrust because I redownloaded another one and it still doesn't work.

I really need help, hope I was clear enough.

P.S Googling the error code is a waste of time -_-

Ok Techies, I need some real help on this one....

Older Gateway P3 500mhz last week was working fine...
I don't know the exact details it is my mom's PC and I am giving it a whirl at it... Was working fine then one day she says everytime she boots after bios black screen says"no OS found"

So I pick up thePC and bios won't and can't find a Hard drive.
Maybe bad drive, I remove and replace it with a good one w/ OS already installed.. NO OS found..
I insert Windows Xp disc in CD rom and it loads drivers and then begin to install, next "windows can't continue no HD detected.

Back to bios check Periph.. no primary (none)
secondary shows (cd rom)

I try swapping out

Hard drives..
New ribbon cable...
Switch IDE spots on mobo...
Try to run HD & CD on same line set one for slave.. (didn't work)
Try hooking up HD and remove CD
Bios still shows None for primary and secondary...

Bios recognizes CD roms... but won't detect any HD's...

I try to reset Bios (nvidia) w/ jumper... still same
Removed battery cleaned contacts ... still won't find HD
Ok I'm at wits end .. can't think of anything else to try...

Beg and plead anyone w/ ideas feel free to post...

Truly appreciate any help and suggestions
thnx

Answer:Bios/PC can't find HD details inside

Have you tried a different power connector on the hard drive? Also try entering the hard drive parameters manually in the BIOS.

Good luck.

Kilowatt

On a side note, it is possible that the CMOS battery is dead. On some older machines if the battery goes the BIOS won't detect the hard drive.

Hey guys. I currently have AVG Free Edition 8.0 installed on my computer and my lastest can, which was last night, came up with multiple infections.

Details of My Computer:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
My account is an administator account
AV/AS Program is AVG Free Edition

After AVG detect the infections and attempted to clean the infections, it prompted me to reboot. After reboot the infections re-appeared. I downloaded and installed SpyBot and ran its scan and Immunized my computer but the problem still exists. I seemed to have opened up a hornets nest I guess.

These are the infections AVG is picking up:
Worm/Generic.VSI
PSW/Generic6.BFVH
Dropper.Generic.AINC
Win32/Heur

These infections seem to be infecting my .dll's and .exe's as AVG reports.

My computer has become drastically slow, to the point of almost being un-usable, as well as having IE pop up randomly with ad's and usually 2 or 3 instances of iexplore.exe in the task manager that respawn at least once when I end them then always end up coming back even though I don't use Internet Explorer at all for anything.

Computer is also 400% times slower to start up taking at least 20-25 min to even boot up and load.. this is not normal for my computer at all. I have gotten rid of a ton of programs I can handle parting with thinking that would help but it hasn't at all. I am completely desperate so here is the HiJackThis file I really hope you can help me, this computer is part of my livelihood.

The first main issue we noticed a couple of months ago. It was that the computer started up very slow. It comes to a tealish green screen after selecting the login name, and then it's a waiting game for it to start up. A full start up will be about 5 minutes.

More recently we've noticed how slow some of the usual functions have been. Opening a new tab in explorer, typing in a search box, opening and closing pages. It all seems to be going way too slow and very frustrating.

i've downloaded Hijack this, adaware, cw shredder and a couple others that may help. I am familiar with most of these from using this forum before.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Hi, my ATMT MP3 player is completely unresponsive, however, the blue backlight is on with a central icon that usually appears when I'm loading music onto it. The icon is a tiny computer linked to usb or something. I had just added a song into the music_me file when my computer had problems and the MP3 window on the computer went white, so I disonnected the MP3 from my computer. It is now stuck on this screen and I have tried connecting it to my computer again and charging it and nothing is working. I am really concerned can anyone help????? This happened about half an hour ago. I would be grateful for any help.

Answer:My ATMT Mp3 is not working and is unresponsive. More details inside! Can anyone help?

Look in the manual to see if there isn't a way to reset the player.

Okay, so I sort of solved this issue, I think, but I don't have any clue why it happened. Which is why I'm posting this.

First, I booted my computer, it got past the bios setup but then the boot screen was very dark, blackened, if you will. Then it didn't load into windows, just a black screen. The monitor light was still on. It would not boot into safe mode.
No recent hardware changes have been made.

I then press the reset button. Goes through boot up, except this time at the windows boot screen, it shows it fine. But, it goes to a blank screen again before entering windows.

Okay, so I'm lost, I reset the bios, I then make sure everything is plugged in. I unplug my power cord, hold the power button down for 30 seconds. I do everything I can think of if it's hardware issue. Same problem occurs.

Finally I run the XP repair. I reboot and it works.

Did XP repair fix the issue, or is it a coincidence? What made the problem happen in the first place? And, have any of you heard of this issue before?

I appreciate all your help.

Answer:Weird boot up issue (details inside)

Im not trying to be funny, but... Are you still having this problem? If you fixed it then what are we trying to help you with? I mean its a Windows PC, sometimes this happens. This has happend to my PC and a cold boot or pressing reset is all it needed and it was fine. Now, if it hapens every time thats another story.

Regarding the Windows screen coming up, and then a few moments of a black screen before the login prompt or desktop display, that is a normal function. Nothing to fix there.

I recently lost over 500 episode of anime (about 100 gbs of info on my External Hard Drive). My DivX player (like Real Player) wasn't working so I downloaded it again and reinstalled it in the same place. It asked "Would you like to save over repeating files?" or something along those lines and i clicked "Yes to All". Somehow it deleted all of my anime episodes in the folders and now i really need help. Would anyone happen to know a software that is free i can use to get it all back, i am really pissed and i cant find anything without paying from 40$ and up... I need to find a free recovery program that will recover up to 100gb of info. Please help!

Oh yeah and if anyone knows any alternate ways to fix this please tell me that as well.

Thanks.

You can use EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard. It's not free but I think it worth to try. You can use the demo first.

Tech guy at work suspected the video card. We replaced it with a new one and it still BSOD'ed

Initially when I am about to BSOD my display's will turn off. This is why we replaced the video card. Sometimes they come back on and I can proceed as normal, however when the audio cuts out I know it will then BSOD.

Once the audio cuts out or freezes on a note the BSOD will occur in about 10-seconds.

Thanks in advance dear gurus for all your help and consideration.

Security Software: ??? Make sure to install security software. I recommend either of these:Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows coupled with Malwarebytes. Do not start the free trial of Malwarebytes. Just use the standalone version, update it, and scan your computer once a week with Malwarebytes and with Microsoft Security Essentials.

Good and Free system security combination.

After installing your security software, update it, and then run full scans today with each program. Report back the results of the scans.
Crashes are DirectX/graphics card related. DirectX comes installed with Windows, so this may indicate Windows corruption. It may also be that you have corrupted drivers or a graphics card hardware problem.
If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Check Windows for corruption. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.
Follow the steps for Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX. To re-install your display card drivers as outlined in the DirectX link, use the following steps.

Okay everyone, I will post a quick history and get to down to business quickly.

I am usually a responsible adult in terms of computer protection, this time I wasn't. I stupidly downloaded and ran .exe files from applications-station trying to get free software and I regret it and I admit my stupidity.
I now have a problem with ad pop-ups in IE and Firefox(main browser), But more importantly I am worrid about other malware and possible key-loggers.

All help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. A full reset of FireFox seems to have rid of the pop-ups.
P.S.S. I will also post a MBAM log scan which I ran after the incident,it found ~60 potential threats. Maybe it will be of some use.
P.S.S.S. I see that others have been suggested NOT to post an MBAM log unless requested. I have removed the log for now. Feel free to request it.
P.S.S.S.S. Apparently it would be best if I did nothing and just waited for help. well... derp...
P.S.S.S.S.S. I should really stop adding these

How many of you that actually use Vista, use it as your only OS?

Obviously if your job requires you using XP or something else, that doesn't count.

As your personal choice at home or wherever, how many of you use Vista as your only OS, without dual-booting or anything like that?

There is a reason why I ask... I'm curious how many people that have actually given Vista a shot have switched.

Answer:How many of you use Vista full-time (details inside)?

Hey guys... I really haven't had this problem before. My internet is very good - DSL. For the last 2 days, it's been running VERY slowly - it's been taking one minute or more to load every webpage. Downloads that have went 140kb/s are now going 500bytes - 2kb/s. My Google customized homepage takes 2 minutes to load I've run a spyware/adware scan, and it's still not working. I really don't recall doing anything that might have caused this.

I am running Windows XP.

I WOULD post a hijack this scan, but the download goes SO slow, and in the middle of the download I get the following error message:
---------------------
Internet Explorer cannot download hijackthis.zip from downloads.subratam.org [or other download source]

An unexpected error has occurred.
---------------------

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

OK, firstly I'm not sure If I posted this in the right topic. But I tried. Anyway, my computers sound works fine (so I don't want many people saying things like "turn your speakers on" or "check the volume") because I can listen to downloaded media and itunes/windows media player. The problem is when I got to websites like youtube, and myspace. I can watch videos but no sound plays for either. Its getting quite annoying.

My husband's computer has been acting sluggish and buggy the last few days. We've already tried searching for viruses, defragging, getting rid of unnecessary programs, deleting his temp folder, cleaning his registry, and searching for malware or spyware. I don't know what else it could be. He says it seems to get slower the longer he is on the Internet, but we're both on the same network and my Internet is perfectly okay, so I know it can't be a problem with the Internet. In fact, he notes that the percentage of resources used (as seen on task manager) tends to increase the longer he's on. His programs just seem to take a long time in loading or coming up in general. I should note this is a recent problem and that he hasn't had an issue with the computer being this slow before.

The model is a Gateway 9310X, serial number 0035025108

Answer:Computer Has Been Acting Slow

Hi,I can't see anything suspicious here..I notice from your log that you are running more than one different Anti-Virus programs with Auto-protect enabled. Bitdefener, Norton/Symantec and AVG Antivirus.Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously! The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with eachother, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown. I would strongly advise you to only have one Anti-Virus with the Auto-Protect feature running at any one time!If you decide to only keep one Anti-Virus installed, you should uninstall the other(s) through the Add or Remove Programs option in Control Panel.

Answer:computer acting slow

Please attach the PandaActiveScan log.

Also finish all the other steps from the READ ME. I see no signs of Microsoft Windows Defender and Spybot. Did you skip anything else? What about Malicious Software Removal Tool?

Also please describe what your problems are. What you stated thus far does not translate into anything useful to us. Also describe when it is slow. Is it only when surfing or is when running anything even when not connected to the net. Does it behave the same way in safe mode? What does "funky" mean?

I'm pretty sure it has to do with a virus or spyware, but i'm not exactly sure how to completely resolve my problem. When I CTRL+ALT+DEL and click the Performance tab, it looks as though there are a lot of usage than there should be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is my log.

Answer:Computer acting REALLY Slow

Log looks clean but let's do a perfuntory scan

Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan using Internet Explorer at http://www.kaspersky.com/service?chapter=161739400

Answer Yes, when prompted to install an ActiveX component. The program will then begin downloading the latest definition files.
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Locate the Scan Settings button & configure to: Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:Extended

Scan Options:Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK & have it scan My Computer
Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

For about the past 2 weeks or so my computer will occasionally start acting slow, programs that should open almost instantly (such as Firefox) can take 10-15 seconds to open. I always open the task manager when this happens and there is always nothing there to show why the computer would be doing this, CPU usage is usually below 10% in the performance tab and I'm using less than 1GB of my 3GB of RAM almost always when the slow downs happen. This usually goes on for about 15-20mins. I do not believe it is a virus or malware as I always have AVG and Ad-Aware running, AVG also does a full system scan every morning after updating and it hasn't found anything. Restarting usually does not help either. Also for the past week while watching videos the video playback will start getting choppy and freezing up, originally I was using Divx to watch the videos but that stopped playing them completely so I switched to Windows Media Player to have the freezing/choppy playback start happening. I also tried using VLC and that behaved the same way. Both problems will stop on their own after a while, but both usually happen a few times a day. Also a few days after my computer started having it's slow downs I shut down my computer for the night only to wake up and find out that a stick of RAM was dead, is it possible that another stick is about to go?

Answer:Computer acting slow

Its entirely possible for mulptiple sticks to go bad. The easiest way is to use Windows Memory Tester. Download and burn it to a disc and boot to it. If you have ANY errors then you have a bad stick of RAM. Remove all but one and keep testing and switching sticks until you narrow it down.It is also that your hard drive could be having problems.http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287This site has all the diagnostics for all the major brands of hard drives. (if you cant find yours download Seatools it works on all hard drives).Let us know what you find.
