Windows Update wont get all the updates

Question: Windows Update wont get all the updates

Been 2 days already looking for a solution...

I formatted my PC (Win 7 64bit) and I havent installed anything on it yet because I wanted to fully updated it so I could get Win 10. Sadly it is now working out for me.... Windows Update at first finds 20 updates (installs the drivers and stuff), After installing those, it finds one update (Service Pack 1)... aaand after that update it seems that the Windows update stays in " Checking for updates" forever...

Im not a tech savvy but I find something suspicious in my Windowsupdate log

Now that list is extremely long so it is quite incomplete.... I even tried updating using Standalone installers but they are stuck in " searching for updates in this computer..."

Same thing happens with Microsof Fix it Tool....

Im really out of options, I tried resetting the windows updates too and pretty much everything you can find googling....

Im really desperate as I cant stay like this since I use this PC for work and entertainment.... all I wanted is to fully update this PC to upgrade it to Win 10

Also the Win 7 disc works 100% correctly as I have already done this to my friend's PC... but mine just wont work...

Preferred Solution: Windows Update wont get all the updates

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I`m having the problem... Update just hangs... I thinks it`s the latest update for the update agent... As far as upgrading to Windows 10, just use the media creation tool... As long as your copy of 7 is legit, you can just upgrade, create an iso, or a usb install.

I have Dell Inspiron 3520
I just did a factory reset off of the built in factory partition.
I have been able to do all updates but 2 and I do not see the update for 8.1 KB 2919355 in the menu.
update KB 2920189 and KB 2770917 will not install.
when I install them they go thru the process when I restart to complete the install it
restarts says its configuring windows updates, then the message
"updates failed reverting changes do not turn off computer."

im trying to get this ready for my son to use for school and looking for a job. I would like to do the
8.1 update if possible.

on this link

i found this

If the installation is interrupted for any reason, you can restart the update from where you left off by going back to the Store and downloading the update again.

To see the update to Windows 8.1 in the Store, your PC needs to have updates KB 2871389 and KB 2917499 installed.

Some editions of Windows 8 don?t support updating to Windows 8.1 from the Store, including Windows 8 Enterprise, Windows 8 Pro (if installed using volume licensing or activated using a Multiple Activation Key), and preview versions of Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.
Those listed updates in this note are not installed nor in the update list to install?
how can i tell if mine is a compatable version?
Please Help

Hi there! I've been having a few problems lately with my computer. First of all, I have Tor on my computer, and it wont connect. Tor keeps asking for a control password that I never set in the first place. It never used to do this, and it just started a few days ago. Also, I have Bitdefender 10, and it wont update. It keeps giving me the message "Could not write new files to the disk. Please make sure that you have enough free disk space." I have plenty of free disk space, so this can't be true. Also, for the longest time, I haven't been able to download Windows Updates from the Microsoft website. It prompts me to install the ActiveX control, and I accept, and hte page will stop loading and just stays at the message "Checking if your computer has the latest version of Windows updating software for use with the website?" It wont go past this point.

I tried a Panda ActiveScan, but it stopped at 14% at the file, "C:\Program Files\Canon\Zo...meraWindow_Proxy.dll" It discovered this much though,

Its been doing most of these updates forever, when I go to shut it down it updates but when I wake up in the morning these updates are still not done... It's like they never finish. I recently (one week ago) made myself a dual-boot to Windows Vista SP2. I installed everything I needed and set the Windows updates to Automatically install updates. When I needed to make a video smaller (no need to talk about this in this thread) on Handbrake it said I needed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. I was surprised to see that. I went to see what Windows updates does and it wasn't checking for updates, as I set it to do. I started the check myself. I left it like that 30 minutes. When I closed my game, it was in the same state: checking for updates. So, I went to my .NET Framework 4 installer and, after 15 minutes, it gave an error: another installer is running. There were no installers, besides Windows update. So, I closed its process and let the installer run. After 15 minutes, it gave me an error (I don't remember the name of the error, I'll post it ASAP). So, I started researching, tried everything (MS FIXIT 50202, reset windows update history, reregister windows update components which gave me error 1060 and error 5 - error 5 is after trying MS FIXIT). I tried to "force" the .NET Framework 4 install by installing it step-by-step: 1.1  1.1 SP1  3.5  4. No succes. I AT LEAST need to install that .Net Framwork somehow. And the most interesting part is that my antivirus doesn't say that my OS is not up-to-date . SPECS: 6GB RAMAMD Athlon ll X4 750K 3.2-4.0 GHzAMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3

Answer:Windows update stuck at Checking for updates and can't install updates manually

Now it doesn't even give the error anymore. It just sits there and fake-installing .Net Framework.

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:
AMD Athlon ll X4 750K
AMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3
Vista SP2
I don't know how to obtain CheckSUR.log.

Answer:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:
Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.
You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silver... This girl on our floor is getting all of the symptoms of the good ole blaster worm and it's 1 minute to reboot issues. I figured I could just windows update until I fix it.
So I install the updates. They install fine, no errors, and windows update says they're installed. Reboot, the same updates are listed. Try once again, and again it says the same ones are listed after I reboot. So I try through automatic updates, and, once again, the same thing. The updates just aren't installing besides saying that they are installed.
I then download the stand-alone blaster worm patch. Run it, and right after I click "I Agree" and hit next, the window just closes, no errors or anything. Try again, same thing. Try in safe mode, same thing.
I've never had a problem with this before, does anyone have any recommendations?

Answer:Windows Update installs updates, but they're still listed under updates

I had the same thing on a system I was working on. I ran Spybot and Ad-aware and cleaned off so much crap... But I had to let Spybot start at reboot to catch the app-killer. Try that and see if you can get those updates to take. It may be some nastiness in the box. Umm, no pun intended.

why wont the updates work and why cant i install my ipod software?

Try reinstalling 2000 again and if you don't have service pack 4, I suggest you download it and apply it. You only need SP4, you can skip 1,2 and 3 since 4 contain previous fixes.

Last night I updated windows 8.1 from windows 8.
It got to the stage where it needs to restart so it done that started the configarations and once it reached 100% it restarted.

Since then what happens is when i press power on the samsung logo comes on the screen then the black screen with the windows picture then the bsod comes up for around half a second and it restarts. then it constantly does this.

The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.

Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.

Any ideas?

Answer:Windows wont start after 8.1 update wont boot in safe mode

What does the BSOD state? Most times it is a driver issue with the Display drivers. Other times it is hardware.

I installed Windows 8 enterprise eval x64 as a windows to go setup.  Everything works fine except when I goto the store to download an app I get the "your purchase could not be completed" error.  When I try to check for updates it fails with
code 80070057, when I try to use the trouble shooting program i get the same error as the updates.  I'm running as an admin with my Microsoft account, I have tried a local account.  I have been searching all day.Like electronic music?

i upgraded from win 7 to win 10 in early august. no problems. i've been installing all updates since then and installed updates always showed status of updates. after installing fall update i noticed my update history was erased and any updates since, like defender definition files, don't appear in the list. only one update is listed: Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3103688) installed on 11/14/2015.

Answer:Windows 10 fall update erased the Windows Update history plus new installed updates don't appear. What do I do?

I have exactly the same problem; no update history except the flash one.

I have been having this problem for quite some time now. I cant download any updates and it says that i'm using a proxy or behind a firewall.

The error code is 8024402C

I have gone through all the steps mentioned in the Microsoft site and also in numerous other sites to identify the cause of the problem and nothing seems to work.

Also my Limewire, Bit comet and other p2p s/w's have stopped connecting for some reason. I'm not sure if all these problems are related to each other.

Can anyone tell me what to do?

Was not simple trying to clarify my problem in a small title. My online classes begin in 5 days, I am desperate here! Here we go. 2 days ago I tried to import pics from my phone to laptop. I have had this laptop only for 3-4 months, and just mainly used it for school. Before halfway through the importing of pics process it rejects my phone, and will no longer recognize it (Samsung Galaxy S5 active btw). I did so much research, and tried so many usb settings tweeks, but nothing. It hates my phone for some reason.

Then at a point during all that, I reset my laptop and it just gets stuck with black screen and circle bubbles. Doing all the things you can think of on google, so many searches. It goes from that to getting stuck on welcome screen, then doing more work and searching, I get it to go to my desktop, but its only a black screen with mouse cursor. Before this point I couldn't even get it to boot through safe mode, it would get stuck. I can get safe mode now, but wont let me access any setting or options, no control panel. Not even start menu! I could only get into task and device managers. At that point I saw "!"s on my display adapters, video card, network card, and a couple of other visual type devices. Tried to uninstall, reinstall drivers, nothing. I've done so many things to resolve this, but ask if I've done it anyway, please. Before I left for work earlier, I just gave up. I started the reformat process from the reset pc setting. After it finished I p... Read more

So, I don't really know any details of what malware I may have on my computer other than its symptoms and the likelihood that it came through utorrent (which has since been taken off the computer). Basically, the problem began manifesting itself with the BSOD in Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I think I have taken care of that problem. The remaining symptoms of the malware are that windows and windows defender cannot update itself. Also, I cannot download any type of anti-virus update software or even the programs themselves. The updates just say they were unsuccessful. When I attempt to do a manual install/update of anti-virus or windows updates I get a "cannot connect to webpage". Sometimes, I will be redirected from an anti-virus download site to a random unaffiliated site. When I attempt to run a free online virus scan, the update will not work and therefore there is no ability to scan.

Thanks for whatever help you can offer. Eric

I would like to delete the failed updates list in Windows 7 Update.  I have done this in the past but forget exactly the process.
I think you go to Windows Folder-Software Distribution.  After deleting everyhting in the folder., i think you are to restart the computer.  Once finished the list of updates in Windows Update will be cleared.
Please correct if I am wrong.  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Answer:Failed Updates in Windows Update. Want to clear update list?

This is the way I suggest :
Go to start > type in cmd > right click at cmd.exe > Run as Administrator.
Type in "net stop WuAuServ" without quotes > hit enter.
Type in "start %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore" without quotes > hit enter. A folder will come up. Don't close that black window.
Rename file "DataStore" to "DataStoreold" without quotes.
Go to that black screen, Type in "net Start WuAuServ" without quotes > hit Enter. After it finished you can close it.
Now your Windows Update logs will now cleared.
Thank you.

After installing Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade on a new seagate 320 g hdd on a Toshiba L300 Laptop with 32 bit that had Vista with latest SP on a 120gb hdd.then installing the sp1, the windows updater will not download and install updates. As it was I had to manually download the sp1 to a flash drive from my desktop and put it on the laptop. No problems there, but was hoping it would solve the Update problem, but didn't. I get the "Fail" error codes. 1. 80070570 and 2. 8007001F. I have 52+ KB updates and not one of them will download and install. Called MS help and for two days they had me try different things. They even took control of the computer and couldn't figure it out. I checked memory and did a chkdsk on the new HDD. In desperation for trouble shooting I put the Vista HHD back in and ran updates with no problems at all then I reinstalled the 320 G HHD. I didn't have a BSOD at all. But I downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials and when I did that I would get the BSOD for what ever reason. I had a hard time getting it uninstalled because as soon as you would start windows, within a few seconds I would get the BSOD. When I finally got the Security Essentials uninstalled the BSOD Went away. Have no Idea what one had to do with the other. I just want to get the updater to work. Any Help

That makes zero sense.

one thing at a time.

Which computer do you want to install Win 7 on?

Do you have license?

One license = 1 machine.

I'm currently on holiday and am connected through an expensive 3G modem plan. Whenever I try to connect, Windows update starts to download files. Every now and then I need to update MSE virus defs but Windows update downloads files GRR! What do I do about this pest? I just disabled the windows update service which obviously prevented me from downloading MSE defs

Answer:How to stop Windows update from downloading updates when I update MSE

Have you tried setting Windows Update to not Download updates?
You could also set it to not check for updates while you are on holiday.
For MSE definitions, open MSE and update from there.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium, use System Mechanic and Microsoft Security Essentials. I know nothing else about my operating system or how to post my log files etc. If you need me to post or tell you anything about my operating system, please tell me how to do it because I have no idea how to!

Stop using System Mechanic and try to restore whatever files it has removed. If that isn't possible try to use System Restore (Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools) to go back to before it all went haywire.

Past month or so when I go to windows updates to download them, it will just say "downloading updates" at 0% and stay that way seemingly forever without downloading. I've tried to download like one at a time but it does the same thing and will not download.
What is really strange is that after a couple shutdowns of my computer, i've noticed that the bottom left corner "power" button will be red with "install updates and shutdown" indicator available. When I click that, it has downloaded anywhere from 1-3 of the close to 30 needed updates. It will not download them all. ALso, that "install and shutdown" button isn't available everytime.

I am running 8.1. Yesterday I performed windows updates that took ages to download and install. Now I find that IE 11 will not open in desktop mode.

I have tried running it directly from Programs and have run the Troubleshooter. Also I have disabled and then re-enabled it within Windows Features.

I can open IE in metro mode but I prefer to use IE in desktop mode.

I am not too literate with computers, but any suggestions would be appreciated and I will attempt to follow instructions.

I have a Dell Inspiron 531, Vista Home Premium 32-bit operating system and AMD 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400
Just recently my internet explorer will either 1. shut down w/o an error message or 2. error msg: Internet Explorer has stopped working, and restarts. I downloaded Firefox, thinking it may be a problem with Internet Explorer but the same thing occurs. I just recently noticed Windows Update has not been installing and I think that once this problem is resolved it will resolve my web browser problems? I looked under the update history and it says the last complete update was 2/15/09, Windows Defender is the only thing that has successfully updated since. I pinpointed Windows Update Software 7.2.6001.788 has failed each time since 2/15/09. Error code 8024D00F. When I attempt to manually install update it gets stuck on the first one. I just attempted it again and now it canít even check for updates Error Code 8024001B. I started my computer in safe mode but Windows Update wont open at all, but Internet Explorer works fine and does not close. I performed a complete scan for spyware and did a manage and quarantine, which I read may help. Nothing has changed.
I would appreciate any suggestions. I have run out of things to do. Thanks again!

I keep being prompted to install these same updates on my pc, running windows 7 ultimate x32, over and over again.

KB2487367 KB2656351 KB2468871 KB2533523 KB2600217

I have searched for a solution and so have already tried-
/Checking if they say they are installed-which they all say succesful.
/Installing each one individually, and rebooting after each time.
/Carried out thorough scans using Kaspersky and Malwarebytes.
/Downloaded a microsoft fixit relating to the issue.

All of which have failed in sorting this problem out.
Should I be worried?
Can this be solved?
Hopefully someone can share some pearls of wisdom?

Hey All, I am having a problem with a XP pro box.

I just finished a repair and everything seems to work except the windows update. The users account is a local admin, I have also tried it with a domain admin account. It fails every time, with nothing in the event viewer.

The updates are automatically DL, but prompts the users to install. Im wondering if they were DL prior to the OS repair and for some reason post repair are unable to Install.

Any Ideas?

Please help! Two days ago after windows updates,my old pc(XP) and my laptop(vista) wouldnt load windows when I turned them on. the microsoft load screen came up and then the screen just went black instead of windows coming on. The only way I could get it to work is by restarting it and going into safe mode like I am at the moment. I went to check my netbook(XP) and that was working but asked me to install windows updates and restart so i did and now thats the same! So I have three comps I cant use. The only connecting factors are the windows updates and that they all run McAfee. Now the laptop I did do a system restore which i took back 3 weeks and it worked but then McAfee said it had updated and needed to restart...then my problems start again. Im at a loss as to whether its McAfee or Windows updates. I dont know what to do. Even the start up repair didnt fix it but when i looked at the log it said something to with an unknown change in configuration could be causing it but I haven't changed anything.

I followed all your instructions to the latter and they removed about 4 million virus's / trojans, but I still have the same problem.

Vista's SP1 might not show up on your Windows Updates automatically. This means your PC is currently incompatible and using SP1 might cause problems. Many people aren't aware that Microsoft has released a tool which fixes the incompatibilities and then SP1 will show on your Windows Update, officially supported. (This one is for x64 based systems.) (I assume this one is for 32-bit, but I can't try it since I'm on x64.)

Download it, run it. Then, when it finishes, "Check for Updates" on Windows Updates and SP1 should be ready for you if all incompatibilities were fixed. Enjoy.

Answer:Your PC not compatible with SP1 yet? (wont show on Windows Updates?) Here is the fix!

This tool does not do what you think it does.

Hi Guys
For the past two days I've had updates that wont install onto my computer. As soon as they finish installing another little yellow shield appears near the clock telling me there are updates ready to install again and they are the same ones. This keeps happening over and over with the same updates.
The updates are: KB979909 KB982168 KB2446704 KB2418241
I've checked in the add and remove program list in control panel and they are definitely not there. Ive tried to download them one at a time and with my anti virus turned off but still no go. This has been happening since 24/5/11.
I had an update installed on the 23/5/11(KB960043) without any problems which is on my Add and Remove Program list which makes me think that maybe it's a Microsoft update problem and not a problem with my pc.
Anyone have any idea for a fix for this?

Many thanks in advance Rod.

Answer:Windows XP updates will download but wont install.

Those 4 appear to be the 3.5 .net framework updates - possible damaged framework components.

See this link where an answer was given by Microsoft relating to the 2nd update, but it should be relevant to all.

Seems that an uninstall, cleanup and reinstall should take care of the problem.

Hi everyone, I have a windows automatic update that wont install. It says it's installed and done but then every time I turn my computer on that little shield icon in my tray comes up with the "Windows updates are ready to install" bubble. Also when I go to shut down the install deal is on the shut down icon. I shut down, the install says it's installing and then it says it was successful and shut down will continue, then when I reboot the automatic update is ready to install it again. It says it's some security update. Any ideas? Thanks everyone.

Answer:What to do if Windows automatic updates wont install?

Try removing the update in control panel>add remove programs. You may have to put a check in the "show updates" box at the top of the list of programs. In addition, delete all temporary files and clear caches as well

Thanks in Advance for your help and your website.

I am having problems with windows update and anti virus programs not making internet connections. Internet Explorer won't make the connection. I have reinstalled all my laptop software a few days ago. and was able to run windows updates all the way through the service pack 3. Now I am getting that VRT2,3,4,5 problem but I don't believe that is at the main root of the problem with connections to windows update.
I have tried various Anti Spyware and Malware probducts but none have solved the problem, in fact, they can't make the internet connections to update their database definitions. But internet access to other sites, my yahoo, my facebook work just fine. Those antivirus products I had saved to a separate hard drive prior to reformatting and reinstalling on this laptop. Also, when I try to access antivirus websites from this laptop to try other products the servers cannot be found. It is a specific bug I have. The same holds true between IE8 and Firefox.
A related problem seems to have started happening at about the same time: application failed to initialize (0xc000007b). this happened with my Media Center (XP Edition) as well as a couple of other programs I tried to install but I removed pending resolution of my problems.

I am new, I have an issue that has completely got me stumped:

My Windows 7 PC won't boot into Windows,
instead I get a screen with: OEM7GRUB 0.4.4 and system recovery won't work,
and I've tried so many different methods and discs.

It started after downloading and installing Windows updates,
about 175 updates, 6 of these it told me couldn't be installed until I restarted,
and from then it never got past the GRUB screen.

Please help, I'm sorry if I've posted incorrectly

Answer:OEM7GRUB 0.4.4 - Windows 7 wont start after Windows updates

What's the model name and model number of that Dell computer?
What's the "service tag" number and/or "express service code" number on it?

How exactly and what did you use to install Windows 7 in it?
Did you install Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional or Ultimate, 32-bit or 64-bit?

Hi Guys,

I'm just wondering if anyone can help me with Windows Update. The icon sits in the system tray and if you hold the mouse over it, it says "downloading updates: 0%", but nothing downloads.

If I try and click on windows update from IE it just freezes and I have to hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete to close IE.

I'm running Windows 2000 Pro SP4 on the culprit computer.

P.S. I've tried searching Microsoft's website for answers but this has not helped.

My laptop with Vista Premium Edition was shutdown using the tab, that allowed for it to do updates. Apparently the updates didn't finish as it is saying 3 of 3 0% and will not reload to windows. If I turn it off, and restart, it will not load to windows. It just keeps going thru the start up process to the updating screen and then the same again. I tried loading in safe mode. No luck. I tried last good configuration, same thing. What can I do? I cannot find my vista cd. Is there anyway to get a copy of the cd with the product code? Maybe then i can just restore to a few days ago? Thanks for any advice.

Hi, many thanks in advance for any insight.

My son was bought a HP 5700 several years ago for school work (yea right - but mainly for games) it had win 7 pro 32 bit and worked extremely well, when GWX came up he converted it and it was not until a couple of weeks ago he asked if it could go back to win 7.

well i know he didn't roll back after the 30 days, so i decided to install win 7 home 64 bit, bought a MAR copy and 4GB of memory, the memories installed and so is the program, code seems to work, but it appears it does not want to load updates, tried the Mr Fix it, running the MS troubleshooter etc, all to no avail.

is there any way to tell if it is just a matter of putting the pc into check for updates and wait until the several hundred appear or if it just hanging, on a usual pc it doesn't take that long untill something comes up, i have tried several times and in one instance a report (i forget where from) stated that the permissions was not set. I have reinstalled and registered the OS and everything appears to be ok, just cannot tell whether the update list is being gathered.

Hello all!
I am having some reoccurring issues with my Toshiba satellite P775.
The most recent issue that i've been having is when windows tries to install updates on restart. Windows begins the download process but then prompts that the updates are not compatible and reverts the changes. But my laptop doesn't restart it just continues to try and reinstall the incompatible updates until my laptop blue screens. In the past 3 or 4 days my laptop has blue screened 2 or 3 times.
Before this I was having a similar issue where there would be no updates that windows required but my computer would start hanging randomly and when i would restart it would take FOREVER to do so.
Im using the event viewer to find errors prior to this update and also because i can't remember the error code from the blue screen. I think the error code had something to do with power drivers? I cant remember T_T

My work PC did a lot of windows updates last week and ever since its been having two major problems.

The pc will not turn off, log off, restart under its own power it has to be forced with the power/reset button. (it will hang at the win7 logging off screen)

Outlook 2010 will not run for more than a few minutes then crash, when you restart it it hangs at loading profiles until the pc is restarted.

Here is a list of all the updates it did last week.

Im alarmed by the ones up the very top that has installed the same one 3 times and if i go into windows update it wants to install it again!

I tried to remove the update but when i go into the list of installed updates to remove it it is not there.

Also oddly there are no system restore points before the updates

office 2007 was our old copy of office i put it back on to see if outlook 2007 would work but it has the same crash issues as 2010

Two days ago automatic updates began to run and locked up windows. I had to reboot to free up and now windows will not shut down after a session. It freezes at "windows shutting down: screen.

Also, I cannot access Automatic Updates in the Security Center - I get a message that the security center was stopped.

Finally, I have tried to go to microsoft updates manually to see if I could complete whatever update was interrupted and the microsoft update page times out.

It seems the update that was in process when I had to reboot is the issue. Any ideas??

Answer:Automatic Updates Issue Windows Wont Shut Down

Hello tpwverm, welcome to TSF in regards to your first problem read the following

1. Found this at AUMHA.ORG, inside a comprehensive discussion of shutdown and restart problems: "As a workaround, try dismantling the Windows XP logon Welcome screen. In the Control Panel, click User Accounts, then click 'Change the way users log on or off.' Uncheck the box that says 'Use the Welcome screen.' This removes the initial logon screen with individual icons for each user and, instead, pops up the classic logon prompt that requires each user to type a user name and password."

2. See if this will help scroll down to 179 on the right. I would suggest using IE for d/l sometimes other browsers are finicky with registry files.

3. There are 2 solutions you can try
A) On the Start/Run line enter: net stop wuauserv

Open Explorer and Delete these folders:

On the Start/Run line enter: net start wuauserv

The other solution is

B) Click Start/Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
Type the following commands. Press Enter after each command

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll

I originally had 8.1 on my laptop  and at one point it stopped being able to install updates. They would fail every time it tried. I ended up doing a reformat since I couldn't find a cause for the problem. Well this time I left it at 8 but after around a month it started again. It can't do updates ,it can't  install win 8.1 ,  apps won't turn on (was finally able get the app store to start). Also system refresh and any other repair thing won't work. Firefox also acts funny  where ad block won't work and  certain settings won't save.  I've run every scan I can think of but have not found anything. I'm at a lost what to do not knowing if it is some kind of virus or hardware malfunction or something else. The system uses a partition to reformat from not a disk. I also here a periodic clicking and the  dvd drive or hard drive (not sure which) would rev occasionally. I don't think it has done it recently.  The computer is a asus g75  gforce gtx 670mx.
Some of the scans I've done are  avast and avg, malware bytes, advance system care, ccleaner, bitdefender, Microsoft malicious scan, spybot search and destroy. Also some Microsoft system file scan but forget the name. I didn't have both anti virus on system at the same time.

Answer:Windows 8 and 8.1 updates apps and system refresh wont work.

No one has any ideas to this? Could there be some kind of permanent corruption?

Ok so I have a HP Mini 110 and lately my computer has been acting strange. It wont shut down. If I try to shut it down it will act like its shutting down then re boot back up. If it goes to "sleep" (the buttons are still lit, typically the power button will just flash on and off) it wont wake up unless I use the power button.

Now this all started happening when my computer stopped or failed to update my language packs which took 28 hours to fully finish. Only 14 out of the 32 downloaded ok fine so i shut it down to just finish those that were installed. Ok so shutting down then the whole "Dont turn off your computer installing updates" then it gets stuck at 15 % then it goes to a black screen that i think said something like "initiating updates in 0 outta 321472 files" this took a good hour to finish. Then brought me back to the 15% screen then that changed to "Updates Failed" and something else, then the computer restarted.

WHAT DO I DO?? could it possibly be a virus???

Answer:Wont shut down, wont wake up if asleep, and problem with updates URGENT!!!

Hi, I am trying Windows 7 professional 64bit is trying to update my PC now for the umpteenth time. I ask it to download and update. It tells me that it has updated and needs to restart. When it restarts, it has a couple of attempts at configuring the updates and lets me use Windows. When I turn my PC off, I get a 'Do not turn off, etc'. When I start my PC and check to see if the install worked, I am told it hasn't, any clues please?

Answer:Windows 7 updates don't update

I have been through this today and fixed mine.
There are ways MS suggests when you right click on the failed updates and read the help files that contain links to MS downloadable tools of sorts.
After reading about and trying some of the tools with no success I took a hint I read between the lines about running the one with "service pack" in its name alone. I had 10 updates available one of which had service pack in its title. It was "Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243)"

I ran it alone and it took. Remaining were 4 security and 4 updates for windows and an IE9 update.

I then tried the 4 updates for windows alone and they failed.

Long story short, I tried some alone until they started working and got them all in.
Look at my screen shot and see the order in which I used. The order goes from the bottom up. The Hot Fix you see is one of MS's suggestions I tried that changed nothing.

As long as this is not every time eh?
