bootmgr not found. bootrec /rebuildbcd and /fixboot give 'Element not found" error

Question: bootmgr not found. bootrec /rebuildbcd and /fixboot give 'Element not found" error

I ran into this problem a few hours ago and have been pulling my hear out. Autorepairs diagnose the problem as a problem with the partition table, but is unable to automatically fix it Ive gone into diskpart and confirmed that the partition was active. I reset the MBR thought bootrec,
bootsect.exe /nt60 all /force

Success on all three windows partitions manually creating the BCD initially works. I can create the store, but when i run bcdedit /import i get an error saying the store does not exist. I am desperately trying to avoid an os reinstall. I havent made any changes in the past few weeks so I dont know what could have caused this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Preferred Solution: bootmgr not found. bootrec /rebuildbcd and /fixboot give 'Element not found" error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I've run into a problem with my Windows 7 install. For context, I originally had Windows XP dual booting with Windows 7 because I wasn't sure if I wanted to make the upgrade at the time. Windows XP was on my old 300 GB HDD, while I had Windows 7 on my 1.5 TB HDD (with 83GB allocated into my Windows 7 partition while the rest is used for storage).

Yesterday my 300GB HDD died (R.I.P.), and I realize that along with it, I must have still been using that hard drive for my boot loader. With the drive dead, I can no longer boot into my Windows 7 partition, even though bootrec /scanos reads that it's still there.

My issue is that /fixboot and /rebuildbcd both give me an "element not found" error when attempting them. My Windows installation doesn't appear in the list of installations to repair on my recovery DVDs. I've set the partition as active via Diskpart and Partition Wizard, but it still refuses to boot. It used to be a logical partition, but I set it to primary with Partition Wizard, so it should be fine.

I have executed the automatic startup repair option 6 times, and my installation still isn't listed under my repair DVD. The repair informs me that my Partition Table is corrupted, and that Windows should work after a restart, or repair will try again next restart. However, Windows is not repaired and automatic repair still doesn't fix anything. It's rather frustrating, because I know for a fact my files are all there and unharmed, but there's simply no w... Look at option 2 and see if this will help. Windows Boot Manager - Delete a Listed Operating System

Before I start, I must warn you that all this was typed on my iPod touch. grammar and spelling may not be that good .

My booting errors first occures after i tried to clone my hard drive numerous times. First I tried with windows tools and apps but to avail. Then I tried with Linux and no success, not even dd would work. It always had a I/o error, but always copied about 50% of it .

After the dd failed I tried booting win 7. The boot manager gave me 2 options. Win 7 ult and win 7 ult (recovered) win 7 ult never booted, because it was the half cloned HD. The other loaded but was bugged, had to manually run explored etc.

I then formatted my newer HD and tried booting from the old HD. I must of fine something down the line, because I have all the data etc on the drive,
but there is no boot loader
diskpart cannot see the volume
bcdedit doesn't work
bootrec /fixbbot says element caanot be found
bootrec /scanos cannot find installations

Basically anything I do doesn't work. Can I have some help? How could I get win 7 back?!

Thanks in advanced

Answer:Booting errors fixboot element not found etc

Sounds like a corrupt partition table.

Have a look at it with a bootable partition manager.

Could be tricky from your iphone.

D/L any or all of these free apps.

Make the bootable cd - boot it and see what it reveals:

Hi everyone

When trying to run a backup through the Windows Backup & Restore interface, I get this error:

Quote:
Windows could not disable the automatic backup job for the following reason:

Element not found. (0x80070490)

Try again.

My backup is setup specifically to run on demand, and I have disabled the option of automatic backups. This error pops up EVERY time I try to run a backup, it's not just a one-off. However, after pressing OK to this error (is appears twice, one after the other), Windows does its thing and gets on with the backup.

So I think there might be a problem with Windows Backup disabling its scheduled backup in the Task Scheduler, since it was previously told to backup on a schedule. So I opened Task Scheduler to see what I could find, and as soon as the program opens I'm greeted with the following error message:

Quote:
The selected task "{0}" no longer exists. To see current tasks, click Refresh.

When I press OK to that error message and press Refresh to reload the list of current tasks, it says in the status area: "Reading Data Failed".

Now, I'm not sure what's up with this. I presume it's something to do with Task Scheduler, since that's not working either. I'm thinking it's going to be something really simple like a Service isn't running that should be...

Having said that, the "Task Scheduler" service is set for automatic start and is currently running... I... Read more

Answer:Windows Backup error: "Element not found. (0x80070490)"

I've just tried the solution from http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/10915-odd-task-scheduler-issues.html and rebooted.

Upon opening Task Scheduler straight after the reboot, it runs correctly as expected, with no errors.

When I open Windows Backup, it tells me that there's no backup set up (but there previously was). So I entered my backup configuration again, and disabled the backup schedule. Again, I got the same error message "Element not found". After having done this, opening Task Scheduler results in error messages again!

Windows Disk Defragmenter was also mentioned as a possible cause for the Task Scheduler errors. So I opened that after having cleared the TaskCache registry folder, and I'm told that another program was used to schedule the Defragmenter and I should click a button to remove the settings.

It looks like the 'solution' mentioned above has helped a lot of people. Unfortunately it doesn't do much for me, since as soon as Task Scheduler is fixed it gets broken again.... Aaah! :-(

Does anybody have any other suggestions? I'd be most appreciative.

Thank you

I already solved this, but wanted to post the solution as it was difficult to find. I have a web login for one of our programs, IE7 would not process the login, just showed error in bottom left. My login worked on other computers, I RESET IE7 but it did not matter

I'm running a fully patched Windows 10 (x64). About a week ago my VPN connections stopped working. Im using the builtin feature trying to connect to a L2TP vpn server. Whenever i click connect i get the error: "Element not found". I've tried deleting the connection and recreating it but still same issue.

I can connect to the VPN server from another W10 machine with same credentials on the same network.

Anyone have any ideas? I've tried a lot of solutions found both here and on other forums but no success.

Hi All,
I'm just transferring to my new office that uses FTP as a means of storage for sensitive data. At first i can connect to ftp servers easily using windows explorer. But over time, when i'm about to connect to ftp server, the windows explorer replied
Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access this folder. Details: Element not found
I can access the ftp server using IE or another web browser, even using WINSCP and other ftp file transfer software. I need to be able to connect to ftp server using windows explorer again. Can any of you help?
The ftp.exe is not blocked in firewall rules (i've checked).
Any comments/helps are appreciated.

Answer:FTP Error : Windows cannot acces folder ..... Details : Element not found

Hi,
Firstly, make sure you have enable "Enable FTP folder view (outside of Internet Explorer)" setting:
Internet options -> Advanced -> Enable FTP folder view (outside of Internet Explorer)
And then try use mapping network drive:
1.Click on Computer.
2.Click on Map network drive from the menu.
3.Map Network Drive window will open. Now click on the link
Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures.
4.Now simply follow the step by step wizard to add a new network location. Select
Choose a custom network location when given the choice of where to create this network connection.
5.Type your ftp address. Specify a user name and password if required.
6.Give your newly created network location.
Alternative, use the registry method that was marked as answer in the following thread to fix it:

Hello -
the original problem was that msconfig showed the system stuck in Selective mode with
"use original boot configuration" grayed out, so attempts to put the system back to Normal mode failed.

I used the established procedures to recreate the BCD (the following commands in WinRE command prompt):
attrib c:\boot\bcd -h- s -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /rebuildbct (enter Y to add the entry)

The thing is, it does not find the Windows XP I have installed, so it boots directly to Windows 10,
instead of offering me a menu where I can choose Windows 10 or "older versions of Windows"

To add insult to injury, the msconfig shows the system still stuck in Selective mode, so recreating
the BCD was a waste of time.

Does anybody know how to add the XP install to the BCD ? I know I can restore the old BCD I backed up,
but I was interested in seeing if there was a way to add it to the fresh BCD.

Thanks for any info.

here's the pre-story

1) Made an image of my OS using Acronis True Image 11
2) broke my raid and switched the stripe to 64kb from 128kb (just to test difference)
3) Restored using Acronis
4) missing BOOTMGR
Here is what I've tried
1) Booting to Win 7 disc and repairing
2) Initially bootrec /scanos found nothing so I backed up my BCD and then rebuilt it, once i did that it found an OS and apparently added that to the BCD
3) Still missing BOOTMGR

Not quite sure what to do short of just putting windows 7 on top of itself. Seems like an odd problem. Clearly something odd with Acronis and who knows what's up.

Any suggestions would be awesome, I was hoping this image making business would make restoring really easy, but guess not.

edit: i do know the drive has data on it and windows can see it, just can't seem to repair that damn BCD

I just got a virus on my Windows Vista PC, I'm using another PC now. I recognized the behavior immediately within seconds of getting it, basically first some slowdown, then I ran taskmgr, saw that explorer.exe was using about 50% of my resources, instead of the normal number of total used resources being under 5%, and saw a "cfd.exe" that I didn't recognize. I immediately ended that, and it kept popping back up. I ended it each time but it kept coming back. The Task Manager column listed it as some kind of script process, I can't remember exactly what the two words were but the first word was script.

Anyway, what happened after a few minutes was that no programs would open. Any program would show a "open with" dialog. While task manager was still working, I closed the explorer.exe process and tried to restart it by clicking "new task..", but when I typed explorer.exe, it said the file/application was not found. So the current behavior is that all programs (windows explorer, notepad, any browser, etc) all pop up an "open with.." dialog, and that when I right click on the taskbar and choose to run Task Manager, it says the file taskmgr.exe is not found.

While Windows Explorer was still working and I had it open, in the first few seconds of the time I got the virus, I did what I normally would do in these situations and look through my Temp folder to see what new files, especially new .exe files, have popped up with a... Read more

This morning when I started up my work pc, it failed to boot and displayed "BOOTMGR is compressed' error. (Yes, it was my fault) I googled the solution and followed instructions from here. I had made a USB install disk for the purpose and had successfully fixed the problem. Windows booted like normal. All was fine I noticed "30 days to activate. Activate windows now." in the System properties window. It is a genuine copy and I think solving the BootMGR problem wrecked the activation. How do I fix this without paying for a new product key?

Note: The phone option was NOT available in the Activation window. Or else I would have chosen it.

Late Monday night my computer decided to present me with a black screen and one blinking cursor. The hard drive still works and runs but the computer will not boot past this black screen.

I created a recovery disk and can run the command prompt there but no commands work:

X:/Windows/System32/

I tried chckdsk /r says the drive is write protected and cannot run.

I tried fixboot - cannot run

I tried msconfig - cannot run (actually I believe it says it cannot be found.)

I'm not as saavy with MSDos with the newest version of windows.

I know I need to fix my boot file to get past this black screen but I cannot seem to access it or find the right command to fix it.

I can press ESC when the computer first starts- but that is it. I cannot get to f8 or f11, the only option I have is to use the recovery disk and boot from the disk to access the command prompt. I'm trying to avoid a complete format by making restore disks via my other computer.

Any explanation and help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Fixboot in command prompt- not found??

I suspect you're typing the commands wrong. Can you please list exactly what commands you used and how you typed them?

So, I bought a new computer in April, and Windows 8 lasted for about 8 weeks before refusing to start. With the help of another thread here, I managed to get into a dos enviornment and copy my data (about 7700 photos). Who knew that I still remembered xcopy!

Anyway that whole sad story is here:

FILE\BCD ERROR CODE: 0xc0000034
I'd prefer to not have to reformat everything and start from scratch (though now that I've ignored Costo and Dell's advice to write off my pictures and do that at the start it is at least an option I am willing to consider).

So I've been playing with bootrec to try and fix my

FILE\BCD

ERROR CODE: 0xc0000034

Problems. Not that I know a anything about this process. So what I did was:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd

And get a response:

"Successfully scanned windows installations.

Add installation to boot list? Yes<Y>/No<N>/All<A>:

No matter which choice I make I get:

Time to bite the bullet, and do a reinstall. Yes I know that can be just a wee bit annoying, albeit sometimes that is the only way to get things working properly again. . . Good luck either way you go.

Installed Ubuntu on the computer containing Windows 7 only to see that the system restore was turned off. When I tried to turn it on, it gave error: Element Not Found. I restarted the computer and again tried by adjusting the amount of placeholder for system restore. Still the same error saying Element Not Found.
Could not find anything related on the Internet upon searching with the keywords System Restore Error - Element Not Found - Windows 7. Finally, thought of going ahead myself. When it says element not found, it conveys there is some problem with the system file that stores the settings of System Restore. And since the problem came up after I installed Ubuntu on another drive, I could think of two things: either the table entry of system restore file is corrupt or the entire system restore datafile is deleted or corrupt.
This is how I resolved the issue:
1. Opened Run dialog (Press Windows key + R)
2. Type SFC /scannow
3. Got a command prompt window showing me the progress of SFC command
The SFC command checks for your system files on Windows 7 and corrects the table entries in whatever file Windows stores information about system files. I guess it is called the file allocation table but am not sure.
Anyway, upon completion of SFC, I went ahead and deleted all existing restore points to make sure Windows 7 creates a new datafile for system restore.
I was then able to turn on System Restore and create restore points. Sharing my experience here so that peop... Read more

Question: Element not found.

I have been trying to install mac os x on my windows 7 pc for a while now with no success. I created the recovery disks and backed up all my data incase something bad happened.

Neway the problem happened when I was in the mac install window and was formatting my partition to journaled. I tried to proceed with the mac installation but it said mac cannot be installed on this computer.....restart or restore.

This message had appeared in the past but I restarted and changed the bios settings back to optimised defaults and ran the recovery disk and everything was ok.

However this time I restarted and the recovery disk couldn't find an os to boot from so I restarted several times and still no joy.

I thought It may be something to do with marking my partition as active so I ran the command prompt and ran disk part where I marked the partition as inactive and deleted it.

After hours of googling for a solution and trying all the bootrec commands I just keep getting the same error message Element not found.

Is there anything I can do to recover windows? What could be the problem? After all I didn't get far with trying to install mac and my primary portion wasn't altered in the formatting.

I hope someone can help me with this then maybe point me in the right direction for installing mac.

Thank you in advance

Hi there,

I am using Toshiba Satellite M300 loaded with Win Vista 32 Bit form last three year but today when I resume my laptop from sleep mode, it take long time to resume and then got hanged. So, I decided to switch off and start it again. On welcome screen. it displays message "Operating System not found" and also started beeping whenever I press any key.

Then, I have inserted win Vista DVD for System recovery and it did well and confirm to restart the computer. On re-starting it again displays the same message. I have repeated this action 3 times and got the same message. I usually save my data on external hard drive as well so I decided to delete all data on laptop hard drive thinking of some virus has blocked the OS to resume though I use AVG 2011 to protect my local data.

Lastly, after couple of hours of deleting all data from the drive and I finally again restart the laptop with another error message but this time it is " BOOTMGR is missing" and this has bit gob smacked me. I think I have also cleaned the win vista off my drive or not.....but I now confused and looking for suggestions to move me to right track.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Randip

Hi all,

I've been trying to (finally) get rid of my old Windows XP partition from the dual boot setup I've had for over 12 months now, but I'm struggling

I've been using the instructions from here:

Video: Remove Windows XP from a dual-boot configuration with Windows 7 | TechRepublic

It works OK until I try the step to write a new boot sector to the Windows 7 partition:

Bootrec /fixboot

which gives the error: 'Element not found'

I then have to run Startup Repair to get Windows 7 to boot. It fixes the problem and the log says:

"Partition table does not have a valid System Partition"

It repairs the partition table and when I get back into Windows 7, the Windows XP partition I deleted in DISKPART is back again!

I have Windows 7 installed on a 120Gb SSD and 2 x 2TB HDDs, one of which has Windows XP still installed on the 1st partition.

Can anyone assist me please?

Thanks
Steven

Answer:'Element not found' when trying to delete old Windows XP partition

You can use Partition Wizard to create a bootable disc that you can use to delete the XP partition.
Partition Wizard : Use the Bootable CD

When you're done, boot back into your Windows 7 DVD and restore the Master Boot Record, as this Windows Seven Forums tutorial explains.

My pc is a Hp 533w, 60gb, 256 Ram, Hard drive interface: EIDE (ATA-not SATA) Intel Celeron Processer with 2 GHZ processer speed, BUS speed 400 Mhz.
I did a diagnostics with the cd that came with the new drive and it shows the old drive is ok. But my computer says (on booting up) that "no operating system is found". So, I tried reinstalling Windows XP and it then says "No Hard Drive found". (which is why in the 1st place I thought my old hard drive was bad) I installed a new hard drive but got the same messages as with the old hard drive. I called HP support 3 times and this is what they have had me do.
1. Unplugged and replugged all cables and hard drive to insure a good connection. Made sure there were not discs or floppies in the drives. Made drive the "Master" drive.
2. Went into the BIOS and changed the boot to CD drive to the first.
3. installed the "Windows XP home Edition utility" - 6 floppy discs - and formated the hard drive. Inserted the 1st of the XP installations discs and it worked for a while then got to where it kept saying this file couldn't be copied, that file couldn't be copied etc. So, had to stop there as it wouldn't do anything else.
Now when I boot up, I am back to where I started - NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND and when I put in the Windows XP recovery disc - NO HARD DRIVE FOUND.

I bought a refurbished Dell Optiplex 780 running windows 7 a few days back, was running fine until this morning where I woke up to see the error along the lines of "SATA 1 not found" which is strange as the computer was on sleep mode overnight with no background operations. Tried restarting it several times to receive the message "Boot drive unavailable", looking in the boot menu the drive ID shows on the SATA 1 port. I can't get into safe mode either. Is there anything that can be done or is the drive somehow corrupted? Any help would be appreciated

Answer:"Boot device not found", "SATA 1 not found" on startup??

You may want to check your hard drive to see if it is not disconnected.
If you still get the errors that means your HDD needs to be replaced.

(first post so please pardon any violations)
(if you feel this should be moved to the Win8 section feel free to move it, I just don't believe it to be relevant)
(Please don't tell me to Google stuff as I've already done my research and exhausted Google)

ADDITIONAL INFO THAT MAY BE RELEVANT, NOT THE ISSUE ITSELF

I have a dual boot set up of Win7 Ultimate x64 and Win8 Pro. My main OS is 7 though as it resides on my C drive. D is for all my data, including special folders (Desktop, Libraries, Downloads, etc). C is compressed, and everything is <u>FINE</u>. A few weeks ago, I shrunk D by 20 Gigs hoping to expand C, but C wouldn't expand, so I set the destination of the new partition under C, but that obviously didn't work so I just left it. Last week, to install 8, I shrunk D by another 30, deleted the new (20 gig) partition, joined both and named them Win8.

PROBLEM ITSELF

The other day, I ran into a tool that allows you to change your OEM logo (pretty harmless, right ?) so I started playing around with it, and settled on the Core 2 Quad logo, to feel like a badass. Then, I saw a button (on the same window, right under all the logos you can select from) that said "install/uninstall loader" by curiousity made me press it, with faith in the programmer that it will provide me with ... Answer:*RESOLVED* Media Center "Tuner Not Found" error, "Receiver service has stopped"

Okay, I resolved the first two issues, Tuner error and ehrecvr error. It had to do with multiple Admin user accounts on my computer. My computer was originally set up with a user Robert Baker with full privileges as administrator. I then also set up a MediaCenter account with full privilidges. For whatever reason the MediaCenter account has access to EVERY action on the computer except starting the ehrecvr service.1. First set Media Center Service Launcher to log on at NT Authority Services > Right-Click Windows Media Center Service Launcher > Properties > Log On tab > Log On As 'This account: ' > Type " NT AUTHORITY/LocalService " > Click Apply > General tab > Start service.2. I then set the Media Center Scheduler Service AND Media Center Receiver Service to log on as my other admin account. Same as above but with other account credentials and started the services.3. Reboot and no ehrecvr errors. Since this was a good sign I tried WMC and was able to set up my TV fine.I STILL, however, get the "Upgrade in progress" message when I open Media Center. Anyone know how to fix that? I've run setup again and can't get rid of it.

Hi, with the latest bios (either 1.37a (for Windows 8 Beta Driver test (June 2012) or 1.39 (Current) of the W520 and final release of Windows 8 Pro (Build 9200) BitLocker comes up with "Element not found" when trying to activate for the system drive in UEFI only mode. In a new legacy only mode installation BitLocker works fine. In both cases all devices in device manager are recognized. About a month back, my 5 year old PC died on me, due to simultaneous failures of the motherboard, PSU and the main HDD which had a Windows 7 installation. I went and got replacement parts and got my computer running.

I installed windows onto the new drive and my computer would boot up. But weirdly enough, it detected TWO copies of Windows 7. Trying to boot the second copy of "windows" would end up in an error. I didn't pay much attention to it, because all it took was me hitting enter for the boot sequence to continue.

But recently, my secondary HDD which I had with me has also failed, and I've taken it out. But now, my computer doesn't recognise that I have an OS installed on my still-functioning main HDD. I get a "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key." error whenever I try to boot.

I figured that my secondary HDD contained the BCD.

I read up on this error on google, and tried rebuilding the BCD on my new primary HDD, but to no avail. I get the "BOOTMGR is missing" error.

I tried using the Win7 CD that I installed my OS with, but I get this error when I try to select my OS from the list to repair: "This version of System Recovery is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows."

Hi, just as the question title says, I am having a RunDLL error with the windows dll "streamci.dll".

I am getting this error while trying to install my Audio Drivers on my newly set up XP OS.

During the installation of XP, a couple of files were not copied properly.
because the CD was scratched up pretty badly, but I had no other copy of the CD, I had to just skip and hope windows installed, and was usable...

Are there any tools, that can scan your computer for missing windows DLL's and re-install them?
I have already tried downloading the file streamci.dll from the internet and installing it with

Code:
regsvr32 streamci.dll
in the command line, but I get the following error:
RegSvr32

"Streamci.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
This file can not be registered."Click to expand...

Would downloading and re-installing SP2 from microsoft, possibly fix this problem?

Any Ideas?

I just upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Win7 professional x64 hoping to fix the above mentioned problem. After a complete re-install Im getting the same errors.

Im not sure of the proper terminology here, but during startup the computer does a scan of all hardware and "Volume 0" has a "failed" message.

The odd thing is that sometimes after a few restarts and pointless boot menu visits the computer starts up fine.

I tried windows repair feature by booting from the disk, but when I get to the window where i select the operating system to repair, its empty. Drive C, where the operating system is, is not showing.

I have a feeling that the hard drive itself has gone bad and is very unstable. Please let me know if I'm missing something or we just need to get a new HD.

Thank you

Answer:Win7 pro startup error "Boot MGR missing"/"Operating System Not Found

What type of hdd do you have. For example if you have a Seagate drive, there is software you can run to do a diagonostic on the hdd before the operating system boots.
This would be a good idea, especially if you were having same issues when Vista Home Premium was installed first.

Do you have more than one hdd installed. If yes, make sure in BIOS settings, the proper drive is selected for First Boot. And better yet make sure its the only drive attached when booting.

Hi all.
I am getting a blue screen error of: stop: c0000135" and "winsrv was not found". It is not due to installing SP2 or any type of service pack. It happened after I used RegCure, i believe that it corrupted my registry and now it cannot find the winsrv. I was wondering how i would go on about fixing it. At the moment I am using a Linux Live CD and I have access to all my files on my hard drives including the windows partition, so if there is a way to revert to old registry settings through that please let me know.
FYI: I am using XP x64.

Please if someone knows the answer to this question or if anyone has any experience in this problem. Can someone guide me - I am not much of an windows expert.

The problem started, with a never ending loop of restarts - after I put the computer to sleep mode. I regret doing that but it was no use since the problem started. So to do a quick fix I plugged in my Windows XP recovery disk and did the following - chkdsk /r, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr. And doing this - I made a temporary fix as I was able to boot into Windows XP but while booting I got this msg. Invalid boot.ini (Booting from C:/Windows)

So Next I tried using my Windows 7 recovery disk to do /fixboot, /fixmbr and when I was typing in /rebuildbcd this came out - No Windows Installation found (0 Windows Installation Found). So what must I do.?

Answer:Windows 7 Recovery - (Bootrec.exe 0 Windows Installations found)

I have Windows XP and Windows 7. My main OS that I use for my daily use is Windows 7 so it's recovery is vital to me.

So let me be more clear and precise to get more accurate help. I have 2 hard disks - one is of 250 Gb which has 4 partitions - C: D: E: F: (XP is in C:/ partition) and my second hard disk is of 1 TB and it has 3 Partitions - J: K: L: (Windows 7 is in J: ) it was set in dual boot setup. I was able to boot into XP because I used my Windows XP recovery disk to stop my computer from eternal rebooting loop. I used the fixboot command and others as mentioned above from the XP recovery console and temporarily fixed it as now I can boot into XP for the time being but I really need to use my Windows 7 because that is what I use for my daily work. Additional NOTES - Everytime I boot into Windows XP I get this message (Invalid boot.ini booting from C:/Windows) I know I can fix that by using bootcfg /rebuild but like I said, Windows 7 is what I need not Windows XP.

My father just got a brand new computer but for some reason it could not detect a DVD drive.

Because I could not use any DVD drive, I have to use an external DVD drive via usb input to install the OS Window XP.

However, during the first part of the install, it gave me an error of "The file 3waredrv.sys could not be found" and it keep reverting me to the screen where I have to go to the BIOS setup screen. Then when I go to the BIOS setup, I see that my master drive has the name of the external DVD drive and I cannot disable or change it.

I am at a loss. What do I do now?

I switched my Fujjitsu-Siemens Amilo li-1718 the other day and was met with the dreaded 'operating system not found' message.

I haven't changed anything big recently, and it's more or less been working fine for a long time now.

I had, however, just had it in a bag and moved it across town, so after reading up I thought maybe something might have come loose inside. But I also read that it could be a BIOS problem, and after going in there I noticed that under 'hard drive' in 'main' it said 'None.' Changing it to auto or user didn't seem to make much difference as it still wouldn't load and would always revert back to none.

However, I also read that if the computer keeps resetting itself to an arbitrary time and date that it can be symptomatic of a CMOS problem... my computer had been doing this occasionally for a month or two before this happened.

I also tried making a windows vista recovery CD, and tried to boot off that, but still got the same 'Operating System Not Found...' message.

Basically, I want to make sure i've tried everything before I open the case and go poking around inside, as I'd really have no idea what i'm doing, but i'm hoping it's just a loose wire that will be pretty self-evident when I open it up.

Any ideas?

Hi there,

I don't usually have virus problems but yesterday managed to get the super-annoying "Vista Guardian 2010" all over my computer. I followed some tips and ran AVG, and Spybot and it seemed to have got rid of it.

hxxp://www.myantispyware.com/2010/01/28/how-to-remove-vista-antispyware-2010-vista-antivirus-2010-vista-guardian/ - that's the actual instructions I followed.

Thing is, now I've got this intensely annoying issue with my Firefox link (and IE link, if I choose for that to be there) on start menu. It just doesn't work, and every time I click I just get an error message saying "explorer.exe application not found" then it asks me if I want to remove the non-working link. I tried setting the associations again in Default Program and have searched the internet for tips, but can't seem to beat it. Also tried some an .exe fix file but no luck. As far as I can tell, nothing else is affected, but I don't have a clue if it's still infected or my laptop is just wounded now.

Any help would be much appreciated. Oh, and I don't have access to a boot disk or Windows disc.

Hi,

After trying to upgrade to Windows 10 from 8.1 on my Inspiron 7000, my Windows install would freeze during the start up process - the Dell logo would appear and the loading icon would stop. I had Linux installed on a separate partition so I went into the BIOS and moved Ubuntu ahead of Windows - this was the mistake. After exiting, I get the error message "Operation System not found". When I start up, I see the options F2 Setup and F12 Boot Options, however I cannot access either - the text will become bolded to show that I have selected it but I always get brought to the same screen which says "Operation System not found".
Any ideas on how to proceed? I don't mind losing the files and folders on the device, I just want to be able to use the laptop again.

Thanks.

Answer:"Operation System not found" error message on Inspiron 7000

It looks like the MBR or GPT that tells the BIOS/UEFI where to start booting has been messed up.  If you created restore media before upgrading to Windows 10, I'd use that and start all over.  If not, you can go here to download or order your recovery media.

My computer had been working perfectly until now. I carried it in my backpack for a little bit, and when I tried turning it on at home, a black screen came up saying "Operation System Not Found." What's wrong??I hardly know anything about fixing computers. I obviously didn't meddle with the operating system or whatever. I really don't know what's wrong. I remember you're supposed to press the F2 key. I did, and a screen came up that's titled "Insyde H2O Setup Utility Bios Version R029Q2." I have no idea what that's about so I didn't do anything else.I'm using a Sony VAIO laptop with Windows Vista. Please help!

I pushed the drive back into its original position and now everything's working fine. =D

Answer:Error message "No drives found" on boot up after new build & install

Unplug it from SATA 6 G_2 & plug it into SATA 3G. The Marvell driver / port is pretty much useless anyway.

Bootup & see if that gets you in. If not you can always reverse it.

Hi,

I am currently getting an error on boot saying that the "Operation System not found." Diagnostics showed that the 5+ year old SSD was dead. I replaced the drive with a new one and planned to install Ubuntu before deciding if I should reinstall Windows 7. I have tried booting from several USB drives created in both Rufus and uNetbootin, but I have not been able to successfully boot from USB no matter what I do.
Seems like many people have problems booting the XPS 15zs from USB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm experiencing real difficulty in trying to delete a sub-Folder from Pictures. No matter what I've done, including taking ownership of it, I am continually getting an error message that says "Item not found" as below;

It continues to show as part of my Admin/Pictures sub-Folder tree, and hasn't budged even after a couple of reboots.

I've also tried to delete it from the thread shown in the panel above, but again without success, and with the same error message.

I just want to be rid of it as it no longer performs has any useful purpose or storage value in Pictures.

Answer:Folder Problem - Cannot delete: Error Message "Item not found"

either system restore or just ignore it for a while and try deleting it later. i had the same problem before, but it seemed to disappear on its own after a bit of time =S

Just recently, in the past three or four day or so, I have been receiving the following error when, in explorer, I attempt to drag a folder from one directory to another, or when I attempt to rename a folder, either inline or through the properties dialog:

Code:
"Item not found"

Could not find this item

This is no longer located in [original directory]. Verify the item's location and try again.

[name of folder I'm trying to move]
Date created: [etc.]

Try again Cancel
When I press the "Try Again" button, the folder and its contents move where they're supposed to, without issue. Notably, I receive a new error for every subfolder, and although there is a "do this for the next x items" checkbox available, it doesn't work.

So when moving an individual folder with no subfolders or when renaming a folder, it's a minor annoyance. When moving, say, a 100gb music folder, containing hundreds of subfolders, between drives, it's a significant nuisance.

I have no such issue when preforming the comparable actions with "MOVE" in the command prompt, by the way.

Anyone know anything about this? Your ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm running Windows 7, recently updated, on a Thinkpad T400, if that helps.

Answer:Error ("Item not found") when moving/renaming folder in explorer

Where are you moving the files to which directory, which drive? How much space is lift on the drive you are moving the files to? Try copying the files then pasting them or drag and drop them. Also try moving the files in chunks not in big segments of 10GB or more. Perform a CHKDSK /F on all drives.
Go to "Start" type in CMD located CMD.exe right click on CMD.exe then select "Run As Administrator" at the command prompt type in then hit enter...

Code:
CHKDSK /F
type in Y for yes then manually reboot.

Question: BOOTMGR not found

Hey guys, I'm having a problem getting my Vista to load. I have 2 HD's, one of which had XP and the other of which had Vista. I used to have a stable dual-boot arrangement using Vistas fancy bootloader, however one day I very stupidly decided to reinstall XP completely formatting the partition of C:\ that it was installed on because it was so full of crap that it needed a new start. Unfortunately when I next tried to boot Vista, i got the dreaded BOOTMGR not found error and have since learned that when Vista was installing it installed its new boot loader and bootmgr onto my XP partition as it detected a separate OS.
So basically in reformatting my XP partition I have erased the Vista BOOTMGR and can't get it back. Currently I'm using OSL2000 as my bootloader and I get the error when I try to load Vista (XP loads fine but is so badly screwed Im having to use a different computer just to type this, but thats a different story).
My Vista DVD is not at my current location and wont be for a few weeks, is there any way I can fix this without the DVD at the moment? I should also mention im a bit of a noob.
Sorry for the long story, wanted to be as detailed as i could
Thanks,
Matt

Try EasyBCDEdit to see if you can repair it (it has an option for this under the Manage... button). It's available for free from here: http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 (It will install into XP)

Question: bootmgr not found

I have done searches, but all i've found is problems when people add/remove OS's.
Anyway, my problem.
It's been working fine for about a year, and i decided to reinstall Vista Windows and do a complete wipe. That's when the problem started.
I reinstalled with the disks. removed the CD as it stated and then restarted the system. The error "Bootmgr not found. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL" appeared.
I've tried to repair with the startup repair but this doesn't fix it, due to not finding the OS, so i can't specifically select the OS for it to repair.
I've also reinstalled Vista Windows about 3 times, and it doesn't solve it.
Anyone have any ideas of what i can do, i'm really quite annoyed ];
Thanks in advance, Joe.

Answer:bootmgr not found

When i type bootrec /RebuildBcd
It says.. Total identified windows installations: 0
The operation completed sucessfully.

Does that mean that Vista isn't installed?
I'm just not sure since all i did was reinstall vista using the TechGuys Vista Repair CD's and there's also a Vista HD when i search for drivers since no disks (Vista OS) comes up when it asks me which disk to repair.

Answer:BootMGR not found

Hello Inmate7, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can use your Windows 7 installation disc to try and repair it by running a Startup Repair at boot. If you do not have a Windows 7 installation disc, then OPTION TWO in the tutorial below will help show you how to create a "System Repair Disc" that you can use instead.

System Repair Disc - Create

Hope this helps,

Heres the story: I had a windows XP installation. Soon after I dual-booted it with Windows 7. After being impressed with it I booted into Parted Magic and deleted XP and increased partition size with GParted (I hate that program but it was my only choice.) I then loaded up my Win7 recovery disk and did startup repair 4 times. It didn't help. I rewrote MBR with bootrec (/fixmbr /fixboot /rebuildbcd) and had no luck. I am still able to boot into this OS using Hiren's BootCD and the boot Windows Vista/7 option. I even tried manually copying the bootmgr file from \windows\boot but it doesn't help.

Attached is compmgmt

Answer:BOOTMGR is not found

Hi

Please boot from "Windows 7" install DVD and run "Startup" repair up to three time separately. This will eventually create the missing boot files on the root of "C" partition.

Startup Repair

Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

Make sure to disconnect every other disks including the USB flash drives when running "Startup Repair".

Hey all, this came up as a side effect during the epic battle I've been having with my computer all day, but I can't tell what's wrong or what it's effecting. When I boot up the following appears on screen, at the first screen I see:

"Detecting Primary Master - Maxtor 98196H8
Detecting Primary Slave - None
Detecting Secondary Master - Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-103
Detecting Secondary Slave - ASUS CD-S400/A

Harware manager found an error. Enter power setup menu for details...

Press F1 to continue, F2 to enter setup"

Now I'm not very familiar with that setup screen so this is where I need help. How do I determine what is wrong and what needs to be changed? As far as I can tell everything is working on my computer. I just formatted my C drive and reinstalled XP from CD so I know the CD drive works. My C: and D: drives are visible and accessible and my DVD-RW drive can read data if I put a CD into it (I haven't tried burning anything yet as I'm installing SP2 and other updates now)...

Does anyone know how to solve this? Thanks a lot
EDIT: I just went inside and dug around some more without changing anything and noticed something in red: the power fan RPM I opened the case earlier today to make sure my video card was seated right and lifted up the power supply. Is it possible I unplugged its fan or something? Is this fixable?

Answer:Solved: "Hardware manager found an error..." during boot

Thats probably the error, its likely detecting that the power supply fan is not working. Check to see if it came unplugged (its probably plugged into the motherboard, or should be, to enable it to be monitored).

I'm running Win 7 (32bit) HP SP1. I'm having the same problem whether using IE8 or IE9.

If I set IE as my default browser I get an "Application not found" error whenever I click on a link which should open in a browser. Other browsers work just fine.

Makes no matter whether I use the IE > Tools > Internet Options to set IE as the default browser or Control Panel > Set Default programs I get the same error.
I am unable to use Default Programs > Set Associations to make IE default for HTTP, etc. because the IE icon is missing from the selection screens.

I tend to believe that restoring this icon is part of fixing the problem.

Google searches have led me to many suggested fixes (registry mods, etc.) but nothing has helped.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem?

Dave

Answer:IE browser generates "Application not found" error if set as default.

Dave, welcome to Sevenforums!

Being as most people who write threads about their problems tend to leave out information which could be useful for those who are trying to help out, I'll try to write a post that includes what you need and then some instead of too little..

Hardware Specs

ASUS CUV 4X-E, Celeron/PIII, ATX (Motherboard)
Intel Pentium III 1 GHz Coppermine (CPU)
Radeon 9600SE (Graphics Card) - Not sure of the "mark" of this one..PowerColor or ASUS

Background Story
Well, about 3 months ago, I exchanged my old and outdated GeForce 2 GTS Graphics Card with the new and better (I thought) Radeon. Being the CS-gamer I was back then, I did this in hope of increasing my FPS-count (not a lot, just a little), but was fairly disappointed when I experienced an all-time record low FPS of 5-10 (no matter what was going on).. Also, being lazy, I decided to take this as a chance to lay off the CS-scene for some time, perhaps focusing on some other aspects of gaming and general usage of the computer.. It was just now, today, that I got the craving for fragging again?

After doing some reading, I realized that I was not the only one with problems regarding Counter-Strike 1.6, ATI and FPS. After some more reading, I decided to downgrade to Catalyst 3.6. Since I'm not the most experienced person when it comes to messing around with drivers, hardware-settings, software-this and that, I read around some more and went with the information given in this thread. I followed the advice writ... Read more

One hint: Check whether IT IS Radeon MOBILITY!

I just met the same problem and tried many ways and can not solve it.
Later when I happened to check the product specification from its vendor page, I found out that it is a Mobility Radeon display card.
There are two ways to get mobility radeon to work on PC:
1. download official mobility radeon driver, eg, 4.12
2. get the latest ati catalyst, and use a very cute little tool to make it work for mobility radeon. The tool's name is ati dhmod. you can search google for download or contact [email protected]

I have had my system up and running with Win7 for at least four or five months. I have four drives in an mATX case. Yesterday, while it was idle, I saw it flash a BSOD and then rebooted. when it restated it displayed the following Error: "No active partition found. Reboot your computer." Which I did several times to no avail. Next, I used the install disk to try to "repair" the partition...seven or ten times, no luck. Also, no drives were listed in the window at repair prompt. So, I pulled all the cables on all the drives but the one containing the system and voilas! here I am writing to you without issue and without three of my drives. I have two other sata drives in addition to my system sata drive. one IDE drive on the system. I've had no issues with any of them until yesterday.

MOBO going? Power-supply going? any ideas about why now?

thanks in advance for any ideas and my apologies if I have not followed all the correct protocols. This is my first time posting to a forum about my system.

I keep trying to locate it. The attempt is always unsuccessful and I dont know what this adapter is. It keeps trying to find it and I can't stop it, even though it
asks me to stop asking, it never does.

Pls Help! Tips, advice, suggestions to solve this. Thank you.

Answer:HELP! Pop-up: "Found driver Software, but encountered ERROR" keeps popping up

Hi Milly,

6to4 is a technology related to IPv6 and IPv4 communication. If you want to know more about that, please refer to the following document that focuses on it:

Configuring and Deploying IPv6 on Windows Vista
Download details: Configuring and Deploying IPv6 on Windows Vista

In short, Microsoft 6to4 Adapter is used for communication in mixed environment including both IPv4 and IPv6. *Very* few people are using IPv6 at this point. That will no doubt change in the future when all the IPv4 addresses are used up, but right now all the websites you use and all your network apps know about IPv4, not IPv6. So you're not going to have to worry about IPv6 for quite a while yet.

The simplest solution is to go into Device Manager (Start ? Run ? Type devmgmt.msc and click OK).

In Device Manager, click View and select Show hidden devices ? expand Network Adapters ? right-click on 6TO4 adapter and click on disable.

Reboot your computer.

Please report the results, one way or another.

Hi,

We have a script file that excutes following code snippet:-

var gOledbProvider = "Exoledb.Datasource"
//var gOledbProvider = "MSDAIPP.DSO"

var oCon = CreateCOMObject("ADODB.Connection");
oCon.ConnectionString = sURL;
oCon.Provider = gOledbProvider;
oCon.Open( sURL );

The URL is valid, can be browsed successfully from IE. The last line throws an error for either of the providers. Error is as follows:-

"Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed" Error -2146824582

This piece of code excutes successfully if exchange is hosted on Windows 2008 and application using above code is also hosted on WIndows 2008.

However, if Exchange is hosted on Windows 2003 and application using above code is also hosted on Windows 2008 (64 bit), it fails with above error. Tried with both Office 2003 and Office 2007 in this case.

To add up, this code snippet is in a script file, no IIS required.

A quick solution is really appreciated.

Recently, I've been unable to access my F: drive. When I double click on the drive I get en error that says "Application Not Found". I can, however right click on the drive and open it that way, it's just extremely annoying. It doesn't matter what device is set as the F: drive, be it a UBS drive, a virtual drive, or a CD/DVD drive, it gives me the same error. At first I thought maybe there was something wrong with my USB drive, but if I use the same USB drive as E:, G:, H: etc. it works perfectly fine. The problem seems to lie specifically with F: drive itself. I've run all my virus scans (Norton and Malwarebytes) as well as PC Tools Registry Mechanic and found nothing. I even restored my system to about a week ago with no results. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi everyone,
I had windows 10 installed on my Dell Inspiron 7720 laptop for around a year. I wanted to roll back to windows 8.1, so i downloaded the usb media from microsoft website.I booted from the pen drive and formatted all the drives. After that I proceeded to install windows 8.1. When the setup had just started copying files, my laptop shut down due to low battery. Now when i am trying to boot from usb or dvd, i am getting an error saying "An operating system was not found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to resart".
Also, when I am trying to change the boot order or to load default settings in bios, I am getting an error - "FORMSET 98FBBCFB-1392-4FDE-ABB8-C41CC5AD7D6D
Failed to save storage: Boot_mem-Boot_ITEMS. Status Access Denied"
Someone suggested me to reset the bios by reseating the CMOS Battery. Did that but still getting same error. I have run out of idea now, and desperately need help. If someone has any suggestion, please help me out.
Thanks,
Ravi Kaurav

I was trying to play Neverwinter Nights 2 on my laptop. The install went fine, but when i tried to play the game i gave me the error message "no direct3d compatible device found". I updated direct X and the driver for the video adapter. My best guess is that i need to get a better graphics card to get it to work. I looked around a little, and from what i hear the best choice for this laptop is to get a Nvidia geforce go 7400. the problem with that however, is that i have yet to find anybody who actually has one. I checked newegg, amazon, ebay, and of course with Nvidia themselves, but the only one i've found is already installed in a laptop.
Specs:
My computer is a dell xps 1210 running windows 7 pro. The processor is a Intel core 2 duo T5600 1.83GHz. The video is onboard (Mobile Intel 945 Express Chip Set Family). It has 2 GB of RAM. Let me know if there is any other information about my specs you need to help me with this. Any help or advice you can offer would be appreciated.

I have to PC's that belong to the same homegroup. When I go to explorer, there is a delay before the other PC shows up and yet another delay when I select to browse that PC. If I close and go back I'll often get this error code and then there are time when I get the code on the first try. These PCs are running Windows 8.1 Pro and powered on 100% of the time. I noticed this nonsense while on Windows 7 as well.

Answer:Error code 0x80070035 "The Network path was not found"

I see the same types of problem with 8.1, some lag when I open the Library on Homegroup machines.

That error message is what you get when access fails but there are a million other reasons why it's failing.

These types of problems aren't easy to track down and you really need to start with the basics and work your way up.

I was recently running a regular scan on my computer with my anti malware program, when the program was done scanning it restarted my computer to finish the removal of malware. Upon restart of my computer I received an error that said "No boot device found. Please press any key to reboot your computer" I pressed a key and it brought me to another black screen that said "scanning media", I have now seen this screen enough that after a few seconds and only for a few milliseconds text beside it says [failed] then it disappears, seconds after that it brings me back to the first screen.
I have been unable to return to my computers login screen and have contacted dell and they have told me I must buy a plan for them to help me, which was quiet pricey, I plan to bring my computer in to Memory Express but they also charge a pricey amount so any fix would be much appreciated.

Hello
I've been having a problem with my browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE) over the past few weeks, in which every 20 minutes or so they will stop working and all webpages will give me a "server not found" message. However my internet connection itself seems to continue working with all other programs, and simply disabling and re-enabling (via the troubleshooter) my local area connection fixes the problem, for another 20 minutes or so.

The problem seems to be exclusive to my main hard drive and did not persist when I booted from a separate one and used it for an hour or so.

I'm a bit at a loss, and at the moment am treating the problem as a potential virus or malware.

First post so I apologize in advance if I'm missing something obvious or am in the wrong place.

Thanks

My computer had been working perfectly until now. I carried it in my backpack for a little bit, and when I tried turning it on at home, a black screen came up saying "Operation System Not Found." What's wrong??

I hardly know anything about fixing computers. I obviously didn't meddle with the operating system or whatever. I really don't know what's wrong.

I remember you're supposed to press the F2 key. I did, and a screen came up that's titled "Insyde H2O Setup Utility Bios Version R029Q2." I have no idea what that's about so I didn't do anything else.

I'm using a Sony VAIO laptop with Windows Vista.

Please help!

Answer:[SOLVED] URGENT! Can't boot computer, &quot;Operation System Not Found&quot; error!?!?

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

I have a problem with windows saying my 1TB WD HDD isnt there. When I boot my computer up i can see it on the boot menu, but when i log into my computer an error message pops up and says "error: core library not found", and my D: is gone. I boot off of a 64gb SSD. It also seems the problem is getting worse, earlier I could access the HDD but it would randomly disconnect sometimes, and a restart would solve the problem. Awhile after that (few hours or so) it would disconnect whenever i tried to access it. And when i rebooted I could see it again, but if I tried to access it would continue to disconnect. Now whenever I boot I can see it in the boot menu but when I get into windows I get that error message.

Answer:2nd internal hard drive wont appear "error: core library not found"

Have you re-seated the power & data cable to the 1TB HD ?

How does in show up in Disk Management ?

Hi,
I found a Google play download for android on softsonic but get error "file type exe not found" when selected from ad card? This is a nextbook PREMIUM 8SE multi touch capacitive screen, 800x600 pixels, 4.3 display 1080p, AML8726-M3 Cortex A9 1 GHz, DDR3 512 MB, Android OS 4.0 ice cream sandwich, OTA compatible, easy connect WIFI 802.11 b/g/n
That is all the specs I see. Any fixes? Thanks

Answer:file type exe not found"google play apk"android download error

Your post is confusing. Reads like your device is running an Android OS -- ICS. But, ".exe" files are MS Windows files, not Android. They're generally executables but can also be self-extracting archives Either way, they will do you no good on a machine running Android.

Hello All,
Strange things happened when I tried to access a NAS share using my windows 7 PC.

Steps:

1. Access "\\ipaddress" and login in. -> success.

2. Click any folder listed  -> Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found.

3. Wait for a while. Click the folder again -> success.

However on other PCs, windows 7 or 8, I got no error. I tried the fixes proposed online and found that configuring "Windows Credential Manager" works for me. But no one explained why.

So I traced the packets in wireshark and found that the windows 7 client sent a strange smb2 packet to samba server after clicking the folder.

The wrong message looks like "Tree Connect Request Tree: \\ipaddress". According to smb2 protocol, the tree connect function requires a buffer in the form "\\ip\sharename". Obviously, my PC sent a wrong message and got the error back.

Why my Windows 7 client sent the path without sharename, others don't?
How to avoid it?
If you need more info, please ask.

Hello,
So; I have a Dell Inspiron 7720 laptop with a reformatted hard drive and I need to reinstall windows 7. I do not have the original Reinstallation DVD that came with this exact laptop but I do have one from another Dell Laptop ( a Studio 1558) and another Windows 7 disc from a desktop (the discs and the OS that was on the laptop before the HDD fail are all Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit). When I turn on the laptop with either disc and mash F12 and then select "CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive" from the boot options the screen immediately displays "Operation System not found" and stays at this screen until restarted.
I have run a full diagnostic check and everything passed, I have made sure the CD-RW Drive is no.1 in boot priority (don't imagine that matters if I  manually select it). The HDD and CD-RW Drive are detectable in BIOS too.... I have no idea what the problem is, any help will be greatly appreciated!!
Many thanks in advance,

Wow, I have never seen this error before. Google and Microsoft's sites are not helping at all, all the things that MS says is what I'm doing to create the problem is wrong. Here is what is going on:

Workgroup - e-henry.ca
IPs - 192.168.0.1-102

three other computers on the network can access the shares and the workgroup no problem. All the other computers can access eachother. This is a new laptop, getting correctIP (192.168.0.101), can ping the gateway and access the internet.

Here is the weird part, my server is 192.168.0.3 my main machine can ping it no problem but this laptop cannot ping 192.168.0.3 but it can ping the other two computers on the network. Don't know if that will effect this at all.

I can access my main machine's shares by run \\computername but it still asks me for a username and password even though I have the two users (my girlfriend and I) with all the same passwords on all the machines.

When I try to go into My Network Places, it is empty. When I try to see all the computers on the network I get

So I thought I would try to see what this computer can see for shares c:\net view, get that system error 53 has occured. What the hell does that mean? Gah, geting annoyed with this.

Can anyone help at all? I'm not sure if this topic has to go into Operating Systems or Networking...its kinda a mix of both.

Thanks.

Answer:WinXP Home net view "System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found."?

What OS do you have on the server? Sounds like it could be an XP SP2 issue if it's on there, or possibly a firewall/ip filtering issue. Mentioning what OS's are on all the machines would be helpful.

As far as error 53, what is the error in the event log exactly, or does it log to the event log? If it is, check out eventid.net with the error number.

As far as the error you posted, I've seen network places empty many times on a domain, and on workgroups before, I wouldn't trust it too much. Did you try \\(ip address) as well, could be a problem with not resolving the computer name right.

I really hope some one can help me with this. I have tried everything I know. Everytime I go to shut down or even log off, this error pops up. I press return, and it carries on as normal but its just really annoying.

I have tried reinstalling XP service patch 2, scanning for missing windows files, looked at the leven manager but it tells me nothing, looked at task manager nut there are no running applications, tried resitry cleaning tools, disabled erro reporting.....but nothing has worked.

I think...think...this may have happened after a virus was found on my pc and I chose delete but since then, I have deleted the anti virus program and used another one.

Does any one know, how I can either turn off the message or better still track what file its trying to find. Any help would be most appreciaed.

Answer:Update Runtime Error "53" File Not Found

Welcome to TSG...That error message usually includes the name of the .dll file-without that, you're right...tough to pin down.

If you've just recently installed a new program (like your new antivirus), try uninstalling from add/remove programs and reinstalling the application. Corrupted or unfinished installations can be at fault...

If you have the slightest suspicion that there may still be malware on your machine, download hijackthis here:

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item5

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Paste the log in your next reply.
If you haven't already posted then start a new thread in the security forum
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi everyone, my first post.

Just bought a used IBM T41 Thinkpad, which I have to say I'm more than satisfied with. Everything seems to be working fine, however I've yet to have it working on wireless lan. The signal is there, with the little ball swinging it's heart out in the icon tray. Problem is, I get this message coming up all the time saying: "No Certificate has been found". I thought at first that it just meant that I needed to put my DSL code in, but it appears that's not enough.

On further checking in the WLAN properties menu there is a certificate listed with the name "C&W HKT Securnet CA Root", with an expiry date 16.10.2010. When I try to uncheck the button that's next to it, it won't allow me.

Does anyone have any solutions for this?

Many thanks.......!
