IE 11 Hide Address bar but keep Forward and Back buttons or disable typing in address bar

Question: IE 11 Hide Address bar but keep Forward and Back buttons or disable typing in address bar

Hi
I would like to hide the address bar but still be able to use the forward and back buttons and some other features. I have add the rege key to remove nav bar but that removes everything. Im using this in a citrix xendesktop environment.
I will deploy a site but don't want the users to navigate to other sites. For instance go to our intranet site but stop them from going to our firewall gui page. So when they click on links I wont them to be able to go back to the previous page.
Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: IE 11 Hide Address bar but keep Forward and Back buttons or disable typing in address bar

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: IE 11 Hide Address bar but keep Forward and Back buttons or disable typing in address bar

Hi,
It's designed by default, and we cannot only hide address bar. Thanks for your understanding.

Answer:address bar, refresh, forward/back buttons NOT WORKING

Hi,

Welcome to TSF!!

I would just like to say that this seems like a big problem. I have found a couple of different places where people are having the same problem.

I have found a solution that I would like you to try as a test. If you would open up terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) Once that opens I would like you to type:
Code:
firefox -safe mode
This should start FF in safe mode with all extensions and plugins disabled. See if your navigation buttons are able to be used from here.

Cheers!

Hi, How do I disable the browser back and forward buttons next to the arrow keys? Impossible for my kids to play any online keys, as they always hit the back button. The location of the keys is not good, and not sure if anyone would use such keys anyway. Backspace is back in browsers, and as far as I know, nobody uses browser foreward. Thanks. Vesa

Answer:W520: How to disable browser back and forward buttons

Backspace doesn't work if you're focused on a text field.Page forward I use occasionally.I love these keys as I can use them to choose virtual desktops with Dexpot. But I digress, there's a few key rebinders on the internet that can rebind these keys. I can't remember exactly the names, but I'm sure a Google search would turn something up.

Hi,
I have a problem for over a week now that when I type a certain website in URL address bar it directs me to a different website.
I tried looking at the lmhosts - seems ok.

I also tried going back to a restore point of a time when I didnt have the problem, didnt help.

I would thank you very much for trying to advice me.

Answer:typing web address brings me to a diiferent address in explore and mozilla

There are a few reasons for this.

First sometimes the site you are looking to visit isa "front" site and is for the most part fake. It is created to get search engines to list it high on the list of returned results.
When you try to use the search link to go to the site you get redirected to the site the creators/owners actually want you to visit. There are various reasons they may want this, but I will not go into the why for now other than to tell you it usually involves visitor counts and or subscriptions translating into money.

Second this is a common symptom of maleware/spyware.
It is also a redirect to a website they are hoping if you see it enough you will get interested and pay to join.
It may have installed as a legit program without your permission.
This would be why the restore did not work.

There are other reasons, but I will only deal with these first as they are the two most common.

If it is only happening on one site I would just forget about that site as it is a lost cause.
If it is happening on more than one site then I would run a few good spyware scans and at least one good anti-virus scan if not more than one to make sure you "catch" it if that is in fact what is wrong.

If you do not already have them I would reccomend installing

I never realized until today that the Back Space key will act the same as the arrowed back button.
I looked for a forward key and that works with Alt and right cursor key. Also Alt left cursor key takes you back.
Over three years with the same laptop and still learning.
Very handy when using the mouse pad.
I wounder why there isn't a back forward key placed left and right of the mouse pad, or is there today.

Answer:Back Forward Buttons

Presumably you are referring to going back/forward through web pages in a browser?
As you've discovered, the backspace key goes back to the previous page. Shift+backspace will go forward to an already viewed page if you've gone back from it, but this behaviour won't apply in other programs, so be careful how you use them.

Answer:Back and Forward Buttons greyed out

I'm not sure if anything wrong actually.... those Explorer toolbar buttons only activate and turn on colour after you start browsing through selected folders/files/items; ie, back button activates to go back to last selected item//and forward arrow activates in the reverse manner.... both arrows activated[in colour] when you have an option of choosing an items behind or ahead you already selected.
However if that's not the solution.

HI all,

Got a new Toshiba laptop in September. Came with Win 7. I tried giving IE9 a chance but I really didn't like how it had changed from IE8. So I rolled back to IE8 shortly after getting the Toshiba. Well, last night I was updating and like all the other times I update, Windows wanted me to upgrade to IE9. I went ahead and did this because IE8 was giving me a few fits with google search window redirecting me back to google homepage and the back button not working sometimes. I use Norton's 3 in 1 security and use Microsoft essential as an extra tool for finding Malware and so on. Anyhow my computer is clean as far as being infected goes. I think the google redirect is in "google" itself and has to do with the auto search settings. Just guessing though.

Anyway, I pull up IE9 and locate my favorites. However, its the default list of Favorites, all of mine had been deleted. I do have a favorite visible in my user settings but they are the default too. So, I rolled back to IE8 again. This time though after a few searches and looking at a few pages the buttons stop working again. This time it acted up much quicker. I reset IE8 from the internet tools and my buttons worked again upon opening a new window in IE8. It didn't last long as shortly into browsing they stopped working again. This time I went into my uninstall windows components and unchecked IE8 waited until it was done uninstalling and then rebooted. I then went back in and rechecked the box for IE8 a... Read more

Hi, I managed to apply a windows 7 theme however the back/forward buttons of the explorer did not change. How do i change these? I remember in windows xp there was a styler program, is there something similar to that for windows 7??

Answer:How to change the back/forward buttons of windows 7?

Hello and welcome aboard, xZephyrx
Styler does not support the windows versions above XP

So you may do one thing . If your theme download contains any file named explorerframe.dll. you may replace the default with it. But the task is not as easy as the styler did in xp, but a bit tough .

First, Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup (if there is any trouble, you may restore it easily).

Now , take ownership (Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums) of your existing explorerframe.dll (in C:\Windows\System32), rename it to something like exploreframe.old, paste the supplied one in the location, and restart your computer.

You may try it, if you dont forget the backup factor

Hello,

I'm looking for a way to make the Windows 7 "back" and "forward" buttons in the top left of the window continue to work even when you have "Open Each Folder in a new window" enabled. Either so that when you press the "back" button it tabs to the previous window you had open, or so that it goes back to that folder anyway. Alternatively, I'd even be okay with a way to put the old go-up-a-folder button up there. As it is, when I open a folder by double clicking on it basically those buttons are worthless since I open each folder in a new window.

Any ideas?

Blessings.

Answer:Windows Explorer Forward/Back Buttons

This wont be able to happen mate. You open a new window, and for that window, there are no previous pages. you can use the ctl key to close it (ctl+not sure but go to file>and see what it said under close).

Ok i am a computer tech for a living and i've been stumped. I have a windows ME machine that im working on that has mysteriously lost the back and forwards buttons on internet explore 6 and windows explorer. When he first called me he was running version 5 of IE and so after running ad aware and spybot and avg it was still happening. SO i upgraded to version 6 and same problem. I've check the registry entries that they added in 6 knowing that wasnt it but i checked anyway. I was down again tonight trying to work on it but his internet service was down. So after talking to him awhile he imformed me that on some websites which he referred to as ADULT sites some times the back and forward buttons would magically work. ITs like something has ahold of it and only lets it work when it wants to. The buttons are DISABLED and greyed out so when you move your mouse over them you get no highlighting of the buttons like you should. Windows explorer operates the same way where if you go deep in to a file directory you should be able to keep clicking back to work your way back to the top. I've searched the internet high and low and boy do i hate when i get stumped. Im going to paste in the hijack log i ran tonight but it looks normal to me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. See the hijack log below

I was quite surprised at the lack of some of the basic features of Microsoft Edge that have been found in IE for years that are critical in my mind. One of these is the ability to have a drop down list on both the back and forward buttons in the browser to be able to quickly go to a page you've visited without having to click through each individual page.

I was hoping that Edge would get that feature in some of the updates that have taken place, including this most recent November update, but it hasn't happened yet. Does anybody know if this will be a feature added? In the meantime, it's looking more and more like I'll return to IE.

Answer:Back and Forward Buttons in Edge - dropdown list

I've voiced concerns over this lack of a Drop-Down list when navigating in Edge. It's such a basic feature that I can't believe it was overlooked by the Edge development team. Even the most basic start-up browsers have this ability...because it's important and useful.

I've voiced concerns over this lack of a Drop-Down list when navigating in Edge. It's such a basic feature that I can't believe it was overlooked by the Edge development team. Even the most basic start-up browsers have this ability...because it's important and useful.

Logitech Performance Mouse MX, extra buttons for previous / next page. Since yesterday evening these buttons are useless, instead of bringing me to next or previous page they both cause browser to jump two pages.

An example: I open Seven Forums home page, click News, click first thread in News. After reading it I press back button which should bring me back to News main page but instead browser jumps two pages back to SF home page. Same action when Forward / Next button is pressed, browser jumps two pages forward.

All browsers, all sites. Logitech Setpoint drivers uninstalled and reinstalled, laptop rebooted. Issue remains.

Any ideas welcome.

Sounds like one of those really annoying things

You don't have sensitivity options on that mouse do you, i had an issue with a mouse in the past where by the sensitivity was set that high that when clicking once would register about 2-3 clicks.

I honestly don't know... Just a thought

In previous versions of IE, there has always been a way to access the recent pages you visited by using the back and forward buttons. By seeing a list of the pages, you could then select the specific one you wanted to go to instead of clicking through one page at a time until you finally reached your destination. I find this function extremely valuable and use it constantly.

I have not been able to find the same functionality in Windows Edge yet, and my search on the internet has not found any information about this issue. Is this function not possibly any longer? Has there been any discussion of Windows bringing it to Edge? If not, it is almost a deal breaker for me.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Back and Forward Buttons in Edge - dropdown list

I suppose the lack of response means that the functionality is not in Edge browser yet. A pity. Something as basic as the ability to make the jump back to a recent page(s) should have been a no-brainer to the Edge development team. Microsoft says that they thoroughly tested Windows10/Edge/Cortana with BETA groups before releasing the final product. Is that right? Hard to believe.

I hope everyone is using the "Send Feedback" functionality of Edge to report all grievances, with Edge and Windows10 in general. (It's in the Edge drop down menu.)

The buttons disappeared from my chrome toolbar/address bar. I can still use it and it still functions. If i click on the place where the button is supposed to be, it still works, but they're just not visible. Adresses show up as does what I type. I uninstalled it thru the control panel and reinstalled it but its the same. Any ideas why that happened or how i can get my buttons back?

I want it so badly, Can you help me please ?

Answer:Change Back & Forward buttons in File Explorer

Hello. There are skinning programs. Some are free.

A few I know NOT free are WindowBlinds or WinStep.

One nice way to go if you like keyboard navigation in File Explorer,
is by using the BACKSPACE key or ALT LEFT arrow / ALT RIGHT arrow / ALT UP arrow.

You are correct. It is not available in EDGE. I reported this through tester Feedback channels twice since I have been testing Win 10 Spartan and then Edge and have received no response from MS. I use that feature frequently on a Toshiba laptop trouble Forum every day and will NOT continue with Edge if they don't correct that oversight. Otherwise, Edge is a very good browser and that from a guy who hated IE.

ideally, i would like for any mouseclicks and menu opening commands made within X microseconds of a keystroke to be discarded, with the user setting the value of X.

for the record, i'm working on a laptop (2730p) which has mousebuttons and menu buttons quite close to the typing keys, and i have on occassion overwritten entire paragraphs and somehow even issued a close program command while furiously typing. needless to say, i would like a fix for this.

All,

I just got a new Alienware TactX mouse for my laptop, and after installing the drivers and software, I tried setting the side buttons to Back and Forward navigation functions (web-browsing). They work, but they navigate two pages at a time. I spoke with tech support, who seem clueless, and have downloaded and reinstalled updated drivers and everything I could think of. Any ideas?

How can you change the size of the forward and back buttons on Windows Explorer for Vista? I know that to change it for Internet Explorer, you have to go to the toolbar that has 'File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help', on it, right-click on that, and then choose "Use Large Icons". But when you go to try to do that same thing with Windows Explorer, the only things on the little menu that come up are 'Google' and 'Lock the Toolbars'. How can you get that same 'Use Large Icons' thing to come up in Windows Explorer as in Internet Explorer? Thank you so much for the time and effort of anyone who might be so kind as to try to help me with this very vexing problem.

Answer:How can you change the size of the forward and back buttons on Windows Explorer?

In XP, you click on "View", "Toolbars", "Customize...".  In the window that opens, you can choose "Large icons" from a drop-down menu.It might be different in Vista but it is worth a try.

We are unable to complete your request at this time, Please try again later. I have tried for 4 days in a row and always the same message. I have tried to forward to my Hotmail acct. and that won't work either.

Here's one more thing: I have 2 other accts with Verizon that both allow the forwarding feature onto Yahoo. SO I know it should work.
It also says this at the top of the page: Page could not be built -- module may not support this view.

I`ve been reading a lot on the internet about hiding ip address and all the different programs that are out there for this. Some sites say they will change your ip address and some say that they will divert your traffic through a server in a different country.
What i`m wondering is, is there actual sense in all this and do these programs work and if they do work how do you actually know that they`re working?
Does anyone actually use these?
Any insight into this would be much appreciated, thanks.

Well I do not see why you would want to do this, but yes they work.
You could do this by using a proxy server.

I'm not new to computers, however, I'm a far way away from being good at using them. I want to know how to hide my I.P. Address, from someone, so others can't find it. I heard that people can find I.P. Addresses through Facebook is this true? Anyway I don't want to use a proxy because I don't trust them and heard they don't work anyway. How can I be sure I'm safe?

Answer:How do I hide my I.P. Address?

Hello Teetar, and welcome to Sevenforums!

#1 way to ensure you are safe. NEVER enter personal information (home address, phone numbers, credit card numbers) into any website.

Alternatively, follow #1 above, but make an exception to enter personal information into trusted websites that act as stores, such as walmart, best buy, etc. NEVER enter that info into social sites like facebook, even to buy stuff. Its just not smart.

Anything else is a bit overkill, but you can still do it. Its kinda paranoia, because millions use facebook all with an ip address. Unless you are hiding from the government because you are criminally inclined, there isn't a perfectly good reason to mask your ip address.

Hope this helps

PS. don't use the facebook apps or games either, as some of them use cookies that track more than people want them to.

Firstly, there's no foolproof way of making yourself "invisible" online. While Tor can give upto 90% masking, it's often slow and still not safe enough. But there are a few things you can do:
1) Follow the EFF's top 12 ways.
2) Refer to the Surveillance Self-Defense manual for complete satisfaction.
3) For computer specific solutions, look here.

Hello and good afternoon.I've been reading various posts about the pros and cons of software that can hide an IP address. I've also noticed several software solutions which purport to hide it. I would like an up-to-date suggestion please as to what software, preferably in the UK, is useful to hide my IP address. My reason for doing so is that for reasons beyond me, I keep getting an invoice for services I've never had, or registered for. I have asked the senders to provide me with my full name, address, phone numbers, credit card numbers etc but they don't respond. (I've had a right go at them today and will be reporting their actions to the Police, Trading Standards & a local Leeds newspaper on Tuesday.) I feel that in order for them to go away, I would for a while temporarily like to hide my IP address as this is the only thing they use to contact me.If there is any software that is up to the job, would you please be kind enough to let me know. For that type of "hidden" ip address to work, you just need to go through a web-proxy.

Answer:hide my ip address

No way except to connect through a proxy server. Every website or computer you connect to needs your IP address. It would be like hiding your home address from the Post Office.

Online proxy servers and programs that access them will reroute your connection through another server so your personal IP will not be seen.

Search for "Hide IP" or "surf anonymously" and you will find programs and servers (some free, but the programs usually cost).

Hi... I know there are some sites out these (proxy servers?) that you can use that will hide your IP address such as Hide My A__ etc....

I was wondering if there are any BROWSERS that can essentially do the same thing? I know some browsers have a thing called INCOGNITO mode but I think that's something different.

Thanks in advance

Ok, I do a bit of downloading and I want to be able to mask/hide/encrypt my IP so that it isn't as easy for hackers to target me. I did a google search and it mentioned that you need to be behind a proxy server but this doesn't mean much to me. Is this easily achievable and is there any freeware out there that would do the job? Ta.

I know nothing about the topic, only that I would like to maintain my privacy. I do not want the sites I register for to know my IP address. Is there a way someone with a non-technical background can do this?

Is is necessary to purchase a product to do this? If so, doesn't it defeat the purpose of privacy, if I have to give my full name and credit card to purchase the product?

Answer:How to hide IP address for beginners

Hi jnl.

First, I should mention that an IP address is not personally identifiable information. So, by hiding your IP you really aren't doing anything extra to maintain your privacy.

You can take some basic steps to disguise your IP by using a service called a proxy. There are free services called open proxies; however these often have ads at best, and malicious intentions at worst. Additionally, many forms of web content (Flash for example) are not supported by many open proxies. Finally, the proxy website is getting your real IP instead of the website you're visiting/registering for, so again you really aren't increasing your anonymity online.

At the end of the day, if you want to use the internet someone is going to get your IP address. In layman's terms, an IP address can be likened to a postal address. If you want to get mail (web content), then you're going to have to give it out. Whether you give it to the person actually sending the mail (the end website), or a forwarding service (the proxy), is up to you.

To be perfectly honest. . . I'd rather the website I'm registering for have my IP than a proxy service.

If I am on the internet in Edge is there a way to hide the address bar? It would make the need to use websites instead of apps a little easier if I could just hide the address bar. Also while I'm thinking about it, is there way way to assign a picture to a website that I pin to my home screen??
Sorry if these are topics that have been talked about already, I looked but didn't see them anywhere.

Answer:Anyway to hide the address bar in Edge?

Hiding the address bar -- No
Pictures for pinned tiles -- With 8.1 there would be a picture, but so far under 10, I haven't seen this implemented yet

You guys are gonna be so happy -- I bought a new laptop a month ago, the HP Pavilion dv5120. It's the greatest thing I've ever had my paws on, believe me. So, no more nagging problems w/ the old laptop anymore.

Here's my question: Is there software that will hide/change/scramble my IP address? It's gotta be safe -- I don't want to infect my baby.

Many thanks, you guys. YOU are the greatest, too!

Hi there

Anyone knows if there is a way I can hide my IP address when connecting to the internet or sending email? I sent an email to a certain recipient yesterday and it kept bouncing with "failure notice" message which says, "Connected to 196.35.40.11 but greeting failed, remote host said: 553 Your IP address 196.25.211.11 is blackholed by bl.spamcop.net."

I eventually sent it by using my cellphone to connect to the internet instead of my usual ISDN line.

What does this mean? Will I never be able to send email to this recipient again on my normal ISDN line? I am the treasurer of our home-owners' association in a complex of 11 houses, and I send the levy account once a month by email to several home owners who live out of town. The recipient I mentioned is one of these owners.

Thanks guys
