Windows Update not working - Error Code 5?

Question: Windows Update not working - Error Code 5?

My client's Win 7 64 bit desktop PC will not run"Windows Update".... Can't say when this quit working.. possibly in the last 1-2 months... I now get the red "x" and error message "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running"... when I try to start it in "services", I get "system Error 5"....

Also, the downloading using E 11 doesn't work,,, get the message "xxxxx contained a virus and was deleted".... I have scanned the PC with combofix, Malwarebytes, Rougue Killer, and others, and nothing is found. Downloads work fine with Google Chrome..

Finally, I also see "windows defender" is now missing from this system.

Not sure if any of these are related, but need to get Windows Update working again

Any suggestions on how to get Windows Update working again? This PC is out of use by my client until I get this resolved.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer~

Preferred Solution: Windows Update not working - Error Code 5?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey all,

So I am currently reinstalling Windows on my dad's old laptop after the hard drive decided up die on us, and I stumbled on a problem that's a bit too hard for me to fix.

Namely, I am completely unable to install any Windows Update. Not even MSE will install.

I tried running SURT, but got error code 0x8000247
I also tried running SFC /SCANNOW, it ran the verification fase until 98% and then stated that there where unfixable problems.

The displayed error codes are:
In WU: "8024A000"
In SURT: "0x8000247"
Whilst installing MSE: "0x80070643".

Attached you will find CBS.log and MSINFO with my system specs.
Cheers and many thanks in advance,
Nommy

Answer:Windows Update error code 8024A000; unable to install any update.

That's very reminiscent of similar errors in Win7 - and I wouldn't be surprised to see it being non-genuine.
Please post an MGADiag report BEFORE doing the below potential fixes.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&DwnldID=17882

(IATA89ENU.exe)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

If nothing has changed, try this...

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

If neither of them work, we'll re-evaluate.

Hello,

I recieve error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run. It doesn't get past the stage of checking for updates.

I've tried several fixes including:
- Waiting 15 minutes and running Windows Update again.
- Letting Windows Update run on its own schedule.
- SFC /Scannow
- Renaming the Catroot2 Folder.
- Running 3 different Fixit tools.
- Clean windows install.

After each and every one of those fixes I've tried windows update and I still get error C80003FA.

SFC Scannow has previously said no errors, but the last run through it said there were unfixable errors. I've got the log, though for brevity's sake I will keep it until someone asks for it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

My Windows Update has been failing to update for a while now and I can't seem to find the solution. Here's the run-down of what happens step by step:Launch an update scan for Windows Update
It scans for a few seconds then says:

Install new Windows Update software

To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update.

Once I click Install it begins to "Install and Update," but then immediately returns to "Checking for Updates."
The next box I see says:

This happens every time I've attempted to update. After looking up the error code, I found the main Windows site that gave me the following explaination:
If you receive Windows Update error 800F081F, it means that Windows Update or Microsoft Update cannot determine the cryptographic service provider, or a file Windows Update requires (named catalog store) is corrupted.

I've looked through multiple Windows forums and How-To's and have tried all the fixes I found. SURT, sfc/ scannow, the standalone download for WU, Windows Update Diagnostic, multiple malware scans, and Microsoft Fixit. Ultimately, I always get the same error code, (800F081F).

I should also say this problem has been here for a few months now, and it's becoming more worrisome as more time passes. The longer I... Read more

Hello,

I did the Windows Update Posting instructions. When I did the SURT installation, it didn't finish and I had to reboot the PC. Then it work.

I've tried sfc /scannow several times before with different results: sometimes finished with no errors, sometimes finish with unfixable errors and sometimes didn't finish at all.

I uploaded the CBS.zip

Hope you can help me, thanks.

I didn't see any posts about this, so I hope I am not double posting.

After removing a drive load of viruses, I am still not able to update Windows Vista to Service Pack 1. I have even tried to create a new admin user account in hopes that this would work, but no go. I tried running sfc.exe / scannow from the CMD and it did report that it was unable to repair wextract.exe. Also, the file reportingevents.txt located in %system root%\windows\softwaredistribution\reportingevents.txt lists "Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x80070490".
Although, I think Windows Defender can update. I need to take a break.

Hi,
I have been having some recurring problems with the attempts to install some automatic windows updates.

Security Update for Microsoft Office Acess 2007
Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook Junk Email Filter

I am not able to install these updates, maybe any other updates in general. After attempting the install the following install window says, "Windows Update encountered an unknown error." Next to it an error code 80070643. Microsoft provides a solution to the problem, by re-installing Microsoft NET. Framework. They also provide a link to the program NET. Framework cleanup tool that enables you to uninstall NET. Framework, and it's components.

I followed Microsoft's instructions to solve the issue, though I've been put at a standstill. I have used the NET. Framework Cleanup tool to uninstall NET. Framework and it's components (states that it uninstalls all versions, 1.1 SP1 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5.) Then afterwards instructed to reinstall NET. Framework, specifically in an order, 3.5 then, 1.1, then 1.1 SP1. I start with 3.5, then as the installation starts it says that to contiunue installation I must turn off or on windows features in the Control Panel. I do so and turn off all Windows features. Then continue and it again states to turn off features in the Control Panel.

I wasn't able to continue the process, and I am also concerned that this is the same error that made me unable to install Microsoft Security Essentials, (as t... Read more

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum but from what I can gather, you guys know how to resolve Windows Update errors.

Each time I run Windows Update I get error code 8007370B.

I've tried running SURT but that fails straight away with the error on the screen shot attached.

Please help!

All the best,
Glenn

Answer:Windows Update stopped working Code 8007370B

Hi Glenn,

SURT is really a self install Windows update, so......

What update (KB) is failing?

You can try the Windows Update Troubleshooter in Control Panel, and How do I reset Windows Update components?

If those do not help, try manually checking for updates and bypass (untick) any causing problems. If you get some to download and install, go back throught the offers and select one at a time.

Hi -
I'm not getting Windows Update to run. HP p6240f, Windows 7, 64-bit OS
When I go to shutdown, the shutdown button has an orange shield that indicates it wants to update.
If I go to Windows Update and and say "Check for Updates", it tells me to Install new Windows Update software. I press Install Now and get "windows could not search for new updates. Error found Code 8024DFFE Windows Update encountered an unknown error". When I press "Get Help with this error", I select Windows Update Troubleshooter, which opens a Diagnostics Troubleshooting Wizard, which opens "Window Update, find and fix problems with Windows Update", which runs a repeating cycle of Detecting problems, collecting files, checking registry, Resolving problems .... over and over until it finishes eventually saying that it was not able to fix all the problems. In particular is a new "Windows Update error 0x80070490(2014-08-29-T-09_02_42P)". I attach the picture. I've done this a bunch of times, including rebooting to see if that matters.

This happened a week ago and the same thing happened as in the preceding paragraph, except that afterward - even though it gave all the same error codes - the Windows Update successfully ran.

I found a suggestion on a MS Windows site to run (in an administrator's Dos window) sfc /SCANNOW, which takes a long time to run and I did so and it found nothing and still the problem exists.

I found a note from a Go... Read more

Hi. Firstly, thanks for the info. I had encountered the same problem with windows update error 8024DFFE on my Acer 4830, Win7 64bit 2 days ago and was trying to find a solution online without any success. But then I came across ur post and realized that I have a similar configuration as you. I also uses comodo firewall and avast antivirus. This led me to think that either one of them is the problem. I disable the firewall and can now check for updates. How that helps.

Fellow code crunchers,

Every once and a while I will have a download waiting from HP in Windows update. I will try and download it, but it always fails. I have a HP Laser Jet 600 M601 and I believe that's what the download states it is for. Below is the error message I keep getting every time I try and download it.

HP Inc. - Other hardware, Printer - HP LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601, M602 & M603 printer series (DOT4PAR)
Installation date: ‎12/‎14/‎2016 7:15 AM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 800F020B
Update type: Optional
HP Inc. Other hardware, Printer software update released in May, 2013

I am not too distressed about this, but I am curious to know what is happening.

Thanks for your answer in advance.

John

Answer:error code from windows update

Error details: Code 800F020B. This apparently indicates that the device does not exist. So the update may not be applicable to your printer.

If you are not distressed about it & your printer is working well, it might be best to just hide the update, so you don't keep getting the update, & forget about it.

If you really want the update it's always best to get updates directly from the manufacturer, so go to their website & check for any updates that are applicable to particular model printer.

Hello all I am scouring the internet for answers but I can't seem to find any so I thought I should ask the Gurus down at the Windows Vista Forums. Anyways I am trying to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 and all I get is this error. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Answer:Windows Update Error Code 643

Hello Peacemaker,

When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows Installer error code "1603"

RESOLUTION

To successfully install the update, uninstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer, and then reinstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer. You may have to work through more than one of the following methods.

Method 1: Manually remove and reinstall .NET Framework
To manually remove and reinstall the .NET Framework, follow these steps:

1. Remove the .NET Framework.
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Note each version of the .NET Framework that is already installed on the computer. Then, uninstall all the versions of the .NET Framework.
4. When you are prompted, restart the computer.
Method 2. Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to clean up the MSI database state for all the versions of the .NET Framework.

1. Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe
2. Install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility as an administrator or as a user account that is a member of the local Administrators group.
3. Click Start, poin... Read more

For more than one year, my automatic Windows Update process has unsuccessfully tried to install (around once a day !) KB3001652 (Visual studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime). I haven't seen any problem with other automated Updates of Windows, MS Office, NET.Framework, etc....

I have tried first "Fix-It" which doesn't produce any error message. Secondly I launched "SURT", which tells me "This update doesn't apply to your computer". "SFC /scannow" doen't report any violation issue.I don't know how to do for resolving this problem.

I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64 bits SP1. Norton (NIS, the most recent version), "ShellfolderFix" and also Tune-Up utilities are installed on my PC. I have also tried to install KB3001652 manually after having deactivated the firewall and the "Auto-Protect" functions of Norton : no success.

Thanks for your help (and sorry if the English translation of the French messages is aproximate)

Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1

I have been trying unsuccessfully to do all of the helps to get Windows Update to check for updates and install. I tried all of the Fixit and Windows Update Troubleshooter batch files, etc. I thought I was making headway this morning when it said updates would install on the next shutdown. So I shutdown. Looks like 57 updates had a failed status. When I ran the check for updates again, I get the following error code:

I googled and really only found the same help items I have already tried, the fixit's etc.

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.
After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
Information about your computer will appear.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

I've been trying to update windows 7 (64 bit pro) for a couple weeks now, but every time I try, it says update failed, and gives me a code 80072efe. Googling that led me to a bunch of microsoft tech forum pages, most saying I should delete / rename catroot2. I booted into ubuntu, renamed the folder to _catroot2, and booted back into windows. Same deal. Other posts said it could be a virus, but a system scan (AVG, new definitions) came back with 0 infections.

Recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Answer:error code 80072efe (windows update)

AVG is not a very good product anymore compared to what is offered now days by Microsoft, Avast and, Avira. I wouldn't trust it's results. But it does sound like a possible malware infection.

I would download this, which is a Microsoft scanning tool that specifically searches for and removes malware that targets Windows functionality. It works well doing a full scan. Otherwise it is not a replacement for AVG or any of the previously listed products. It has one single function. This is normally downloaded monthly via Windows Update, but since you are unable to download it normally, you can download it this way.

You have some significant registry corruption - I'll have to see if I can find and fix it.

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

ok so heres the story, a week ago my laptop developed a serious virus, so after trying to re install os and failing, I took it back to the shop, they wiped the system re installed os and reset everything to factory settings. I got home and started the windows update. This was going fine, a few reboots, a few more updates then suddenly got the error code 80072efe when trying to install updates. I tried everything, disbelled firewall, antivirus, and still the same error. I went to microsoft forums, tech forums, took the steps suggested by many people, and still nothing. I have rolled back the system to the factory settings and still nothing. I am on the verge of what Americans like to term "going postal". This bug, flaw or whatever it is is really annoying and I am stuck for ideas as to what to do next (short of taking the laptop and forcebly feeding it to the first microsoft employee I find). Can anyone please help? I need my laptop for University and though everything else works fine, I hate having equipment that has that niggling bit that wont work.

I had heard that this works like a repair install and helps fix any corrupt system file problems. But when it gets to the second part of the install (after copying windows files, i think) it says:
Windows was unable to complete the installation and will install when you restart the installation again. The installation window popped up again and so I tried again. It said the same thing, I tried it multiple times but it refuses to work. I rebooted and it booted into windows setup, not vista. It started and then said:
The setup could not start or something like that. Using msconfig I have changed the default OS back to vista.

Good day fine folks at MG. Many unsucessful attempts to install Service Pack 1 on a co-worker's Pc. Keep getting the Error Code: 8024200D.

I've tried using MS System Readiness Tool and I've also used the MS Update Troubleshooting Tool.

My other option is to open communication with Microsoft via e-mail. Thought I might get a better response from the fine folks over here.

Anyone have a solution for this?

System is:
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit

Not sure you need hardware specs but here they are:
Asus Laptop
Pentium Dual Core Processor, 2.3GHz
Ram - 4 GB

Thank you for any suggestions.

Regards,

Paul

Answer:Windows 7 SP1 Update Error Code 8024200D

Manually downloaded the SP1 update and trying that now.

I also shut off virus protection and firewall while doing the update, as MS has suggested that being a possible cause to updates not installing.

3. Ran a sfc /scannow... not detected anything... no success
4. Reformatted my PC and tried again... no success
5. Disabled all the antivirus programs and ran malwarebytes to check for any malicious software... no success

Suddenly yesterday Windows update starting returning an error each time I tried to install updates. The updates are being downloaded ok but when I select install I get the following:

Code 800B0100 Windows update encountered an unknown error

I have researched this but the information I found related to "compatability check" software which I guess relates to earlier Windows versions and compatability with Windows 7.

I have also tried the download/install with security switched off, this made no difference either.

Has anyone got an idea where I should go from here?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Try the following one by one, checking after each.

1) Disable your firewall.

2) Navigate to the folder C:\windows\softwaredistribution and rename it to something like softdis.old.

3) Download the installer manually from windows download center to your hdd. Then restart in safe mode and install the update by double clicking on the saved file. Restart.

4) Windows Update - Reset

5) Try the MS Fixit.

Steps I have taken:

* I downloaded and ran Microsoft's System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821).

* I ran sfc /scannow. There were no integrity violations found.

* I checked for Windows Updates and found the following "Important" updates:Internet Explorer 11
KB2871997
KB3000483
KB3004375
KB3031432
KB3033929
KB3045999
KB3046269
* I ran the updates. It reports that 7 succeeded and 1 failed. The error found is: Code 9C57 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.Internet Explorer 11 is the update that "failed", but the seven other updates are offered again the next time I check for updates.

What can I do to get Windows Updates working again? Thank you kindly for any assistance.

Hi,

This is my first post, and not all that clever with pcs, so apologies in advance if I've missed something out.

I have been getting this error code repeatedly when trying to install update KB2922229 for a couple of months now. Never had any problems before. Other updates were installing just fine, but I am now getting the same error code when trying to install update KB2871997. As both of these updates seem to be related to security, I am getting a bit concerned.

I have followed the steps in the Windows Update Posting Instructions, running SURT and an SFC scan. Logs attached.

Hope someone will be kind enough to help with this.

Answer:Windows Update Error Code 800736B3

I have never seen such a CheckSUR summary before!

Code:

The SFC scan is clear - which in view of the above, is rather surprising.

Have you tried installing the updates again since running the CheckSUR/SURT?

If not, please do so, and let us know what happens - First do a check for Updates, and see if the updates appear at all - they may not.

Recently I encountered error on Windows Update and it showed me the error code "80070008" in which it says that my computer might have run out of memory. I am actually unsure which "memory" the error message is talking about as my RAM seems to still have plenty of room (C: has 200GB space left, while RAM is mostly used about 27~30% out of 8GB).

Here are my troubleshoot attempts:

1. Disabled Firewall and AntiVirus Program
Disabled my AV protection, firewall to no avail. I also tried uninstalling my AV program and disabled Windows Defender. But the problem is still there.

2. Manual update installation
Tried to download the update files from Microsoft and attempted installation, but failed to install.

3. Windows Update Diagnostic Tool

The tool stated three errors with "Fixed" status:
- Service registration is missing or corrupt
- Windows Update error 0x80070490 (2015-07-21-T-11_33_07P)
- Problems installing recent updates
...but problem persists.

4. System File Check

I run sfc /scannow command at Advanced Startup (notice the X: prompt)... unsure if I did it right, because I couldn't seem to perform it on normal startup nor Safe Mode (Error message: Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation).

So through advanced startup, I receive result saying "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them." and rebooted my system. Yet I felt there was no changes and I am still unable ... Read more

Hello,

I have been trying to update my computer for about 6 months now to no avail. Updates are downloaded, but not installed - - instead I get error code 80070002 and the updates all fail . I have tried using the stand alone installer, and all the recommendations that windows help offered, but no luck. I read through another thread and tried using the MGADiag.exe program and my OS is genuine, but the error code 80070002 comes up repeatedly throughout the report. Please, if anybody knows how to resolve this issue, I would be very appreciative!

Answer:Windows Update Error Code: 80070002 - Help PLEASE!

80070002 is a File Not Found error. It suggests (to me) a corruption of the downloads. Give this a try (you must be using an adminstrator account for this):

- Go to Start and type "cmd" (without the quotes)
- at the top of the Search box will be an entry for CMD.EXE - right click on it and select "Run as administrator"
- In the black window that appears, type "net stop wuauserv" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Wait until the screen tells you that it's completed successfully. Leave this window open as you'll need it later. If it prompts to stop other services, tell it yes.

- Open up Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. Delete the contents of the folder (but not the folder itself).

- Go back to the black window and type "net start wuauserv" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

- Reboot and see if Windows Update works now. Let us know what happens.

I can't check for updates for some reason. The thing is, I think this may be part of a larger issue with connectivity. I'm also having connection issues with gmail and youtube as well. In Gmail, sometimes things don't load after I click on them, and I can't attach files to e-mails. Another forum I like to go to loads very slowly on firefox and won't load at all on IE 11. My internet appears to be fine as most sites aren't giving me trouble that I know of. Are they all connected?

I did do a windows update last week and installed a bunch of security updates and everything seemed fine then. So, what's going on? I can't attach the CBS folder, as it is way too big. It is 285 MB. Is that normal?

I ran SURT and it installed hotfix KB947821 and it didn't fix anything. I then ran sfc /verifyonly and it said there were no violations.

Hi Canuck or Die & welcome to sevenforums.

Probably some corrupt/missing files/folders

CBS folder can be large don't need entire folder

Run SURT & post CheckSUR.log

located at: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS

For last month have been unable to install updates to Windows Vista. All updates now result in error 8007010B
(a while ago I did get a 'blue screen' error but it disappeared before I could make a note of it)

From link within 'Windows Update'
Ran Automatically diagnose and fix common problems with Windows Update Fixit from MS help and Support.
Issues found: Windows Update components must be repaired. .. . . . . Fixed
Tried one of the oldest updates - failed 8007010B.

Answer:Windows update - error code 8007010B

I'll tell you that registry cleaners aren't recommended around here simply because they can harm your computer by cleaning the wrong thing if you don't know what you are doing. I'd stay away from them if I were you. I can't be sure about this, but I'll tell you that ZoneAlarm's reputation's gone down in the past few months. Some of the things they've done are appalling. And one thing to check is the error you got regarding Windows Resource Protection. WRP is the mechanism Windows uses to protect its crucial files so that users cannot touch them. I don't think WUA uses WRP at all, but I'll look into it for you. And another thing to check for is to ensure that you are connected to the internet when you check for updates. If not, then you'll get an error for WUA's lack of access to the Microsoft site will cause downloads to fail.

I had the same problem.

1. Download and install update "Windows6.1-KB2647753-v2-x64" manually from
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29156

2. Do a normal Windows update for the remaining files.

Hey all!

I have come to a dead end with an update for Windows Vista. I am posting this thread in hope to solve the problem with your help.

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP2 (build 6002)
Genuine: Yes
Windows Update: Installed
Microsoft Update: Installed
Update setting: Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them
Windows Update error code: 13EC

Now, here's the situation. As a result from my Windows Update settings I got an alert from Windows today telling me that there is an important update available that I could download and install on my computer. It was the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for Windows Vista x64-based computers.

I decided to get it. So I check marked it in Windows Update, clicked OK, and then hit the "Download updates" button and it started to download. (It may have said "Install updates" on that button, don't remember.) I waited for it to download which only took like 1 minute, and then, when it was supposed to start installing I hit the Power Off button from the Start menu, knowing that once an update is downloaded I can safely hit the Power Off button because the computer would be powered off first after the update was installed. I was right, because the shield appeared over the Power Off button on the Start menu and once I hit that button the installation status appeared on my screen. That's the way Windows Update works on Windows Vista and that's cool because I was... Read more

Days and Days of trying to repair this. This: Windows will not update. Periodic messages that my Windows is not genuine. One entire day of failed installation of clean install with Windows 7 USB stick provided by Dell. A few hours with a very sweet techie, who did the most basic stuff. I have run I think everything I could find on the internet. Nothing has worked. I've not tried the clean install in 2 days; at this point I don't want to give up on the repair, now that I've invested half my life in it. Help?!

I will post the other test results (already run, but I didn't understand the posting instructions) tomorrow.

Answer:Error Code 8000FFFF and Windows 7 Update

Commonly this error is caused by moving the Windows partition.

Quote:
On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0x1AD' to display the error text.
Error: 0x1AD

... although I also see references to MDAC in a Google search.
The error is extremely rare, and there are no currently-known solutions, but let's do some basic checks first...

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Also...

Open Event Viewer

click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.

Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.

Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...

Save the file as Appevt.evtx

Repeat for the System log

then zip both, and upload them.

Hey guys I have a problem when looking for updates in Windows VIsta Home Premium.
I freshly reinstalled Vista after getting some weird errors and not starting up last time so I had to use the Vista recovery disk. I promptly tried to check for updates in Windows Update but it gave me the error code "C0150004". It suggested to get Fix It but it wouldn't install PowerShell so I couldn't use that.

Please Help me with my problem!
Thanks

Answer:Windows Update Error Code "C0150004"

I would suggest the following steps after which you can try to install the Windows Updates.

1) Empty the software distribution folder

1. Click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search box, right-click services.msc, and then click Run as administrator.

2. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Stop.

3. Minimize the Services (local) window.

4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them.

Note : By default, the Windows distribution folder is located in the drive :\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. In this location, drive is a placeholder for the drive where Windows is installed. Example "C:\windows\softwaredistribution"

5. Make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then maximize the Services (local) window.

6. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Start.

7. Restart the computer, and then run Windows Update again.
