Windows Update not working - Error Code 5?

Question: Windows Update not working - Error Code 5?

My client's Win 7 64 bit desktop PC will not run"Windows Update".... Can't say when this quit working.. possibly in the last 1-2 months... I now get the red "x" and error message "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running"... when I try to start it in "services", I get "system Error 5"....

Also, the downloading using E 11 doesn't work,,, get the message "xxxxx contained a virus and was deleted".... I have scanned the PC with combofix, Malwarebytes, Rougue Killer, and others, and nothing is found. Downloads work fine with Google Chrome..

Finally, I also see "windows defender" is now missing from this system.

Not sure if any of these are related, but need to get Windows Update working again

Any suggestions on how to get Windows Update working again? This PC is out of use by my client until I get this resolved.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer~

Preferred Solution: Windows Update not working - Error Code 5?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I recieve error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run. It doesn't get past the stage of checking for updates.

I've tried several fixes including:
- Waiting 15 minutes and running Windows Update again.
- Letting Windows Update run on its own schedule.
- SFC /Scannow
- Renaming the Catroot2 Folder.
- Running 3 different Fixit tools.
- Clean windows install.

After each and every one of those fixes I've tried windows update and I still get error C80003FA.

SFC Scannow has previously said no errors, but the last run through it said there were unfixable errors. I've got the log, though for brevity's sake I will keep it until someone asks for it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Answer:Windows Update fails in Update Check. Error code C80003FA.

Clean windows install doesn't fix it? You must be blocked, maybe your firewall???

Hey all,

So I am currently reinstalling Windows on my dad's old laptop after the hard drive decided up die on us, and I stumbled on a problem that's a bit too hard for me to fix.

Namely, I am completely unable to install any Windows Update. Not even MSE will install.

I tried running SURT, but got error code 0x8000247
I also tried running SFC /SCANNOW, it ran the verification fase until 98% and then stated that there where unfixable problems.

The displayed error codes are:
In WU: "8024A000"
In SURT: "0x8000247"
Whilst installing MSE: "0x80070643".

Attached you will find CBS.log and MSINFO with my system specs.
Cheers and many thanks in advance,
Nommy

That's very reminiscent of similar errors in Win7 - and I wouldn't be surprised to see it being non-genuine.
Please post an MGADiag report BEFORE doing the below potential fixes.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Storage Matrix Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here -
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...&DwnldID=17882

(IATA89ENU.exe)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

If nothing has changed, try this...

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

If neither of them work, we'll re-evaluate.

My Windows Update has been failing to update for a while now and I can't seem to find the solution. Here's the run-down of what happens step by step:Launch an update scan for Windows Update
It scans for a few seconds then says:

Quote:
Install new Windows Update software

To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update.

Once I click Install it begins to "Install and Update," but then immediately returns to "Checking for Updates."
The next box I see says:

This happens every time I've attempted to update. After looking up the error code, I found the main Windows site that gave me the following explaination:
If you receive Windows Update error 800F081F, it means that Windows Update or Microsoft Update cannot determine the cryptographic service provider, or a file Windows Update requires (named catalog store) is corrupted.

I've looked through multiple Windows forums and How-To's and have tried all the fixes I found. SURT, sfc/ scannow, the standalone download for WU, Windows Update Diagnostic, multiple malware scans, and Microsoft Fixit. Ultimately, I always get the same error code, (800F081F).

I should also say this problem has been here for a few months now, and it's becoming more worrisome as more time passes. The longer I... Read more

Hello,
First, excuse my english, I'm trying my best.

I get error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run.

I did the Windows Update Posting instructions. When I did the SURT installation, it didn't finish and I had to reboot the PC. Then it work.

I've tried sfc /scannow several times before with different results: sometimes finished with no errors, sometimes finish with unfixable errors and sometimes didn't finish at all.

I uploaded the CBS.zip

Hope you can help me, thanks.

I didn't see any posts about this, so I hope I am not double posting.

After removing a drive load of viruses, I am still not able to update Windows Vista to Service Pack 1. I have even tried to create a new admin user account in hopes that this would work, but no go. I tried running sfc.exe / scannow from the CMD and it did report that it was unable to repair wextract.exe. Also, the file reportingevents.txt located in %system root%\windows\softwaredistribution\reportingevents.txt lists "Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x80070490".
Although, I think Windows Defender can update. I need to take a break.

Hi,
I have been having some recurring problems with the attempts to install some automatic windows updates.

Security Update for Microsoft Office Acess 2007
Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook Junk Email Filter

I am not able to install these updates, maybe any other updates in general. After attempting the install the following install window says, "Windows Update encountered an unknown error." Next to it an error code 80070643. Microsoft provides a solution to the problem, by re-installing Microsoft NET. Framework. They also provide a link to the program NET. Framework cleanup tool that enables you to uninstall NET. Framework, and it's components.

I followed Microsoft's instructions to solve the issue, though I've been put at a standstill. I have used the NET. Framework Cleanup tool to uninstall NET. Framework and it's components (states that it uninstalls all versions, 1.1 SP1 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5.) Then afterwards instructed to reinstall NET. Framework, specifically in an order, 3.5 then, 1.1, then 1.1 SP1. I start with 3.5, then as the installation starts it says that to contiunue installation I must turn off or on windows features in the Control Panel. I do so and turn off all Windows features. Then continue and it again states to turn off features in the Control Panel.

I wasn't able to continue the process, and I am also concerned that this is the same error that made me unable to install Microsoft Security Essentials, (as t... Read more

I have been having problems installing 8 updates since early May 2012. I am getting the error code in the title line.

I have run FixIt, but to no avail. I have also turned off services and rebooted and ran Windows Update and still got this error.

Do I need to just skip these updates, or somehow troubleshoot this and fix it. If I need to fix it, I need help.

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum but from what I can gather, you guys know how to resolve Windows Update errors.

Each time I run Windows Update I get error code 8007370B.

I've tried running SURT but that fails straight away with the error on the screen shot attached.

Please help!

All the best,
Glenn

Answer:Windows Update stopped working Code 8007370B

Hi Glenn,

SURT is really a self install Windows update, so......

What update (KB) is failing?

You can try the Windows Update Troubleshooter in Control Panel, and How do I reset Windows Update components?

If those do not help, try manually checking for updates and bypass (untick) any causing problems. If you get some to download and install, go back throught the offers and select one at a time.

SFC / DISM / ResetWUEeng / WinFixit / and the list goes on.

I also deleted it and broke my computer and could not restore it. Had to start all over again and still received the same error message.

Does anybody have any suggestions. Thanks.

Hi -
I'm not getting Windows Update to run. HP p6240f, Windows 7, 64-bit OS
When I go to shutdown, the shutdown button has an orange shield that indicates it wants to update.
If I go to Windows Update and and say "Check for Updates", it tells me to Install new Windows Update software. I press Install Now and get "windows could not search for new updates. Error found Code 8024DFFE Windows Update encountered an unknown error". When I press "Get Help with this error", I select Windows Update Troubleshooter, which opens a Diagnostics Troubleshooting Wizard, which opens "Window Update, find and fix problems with Windows Update", which runs a repeating cycle of Detecting problems, collecting files, checking registry, Resolving problems .... over and over until it finishes eventually saying that it was not able to fix all the problems. In particular is a new "Windows Update error 0x80070490(2014-08-29-T-09_02_42P)". I attach the picture. I've done this a bunch of times, including rebooting to see if that matters.

This happened a week ago and the same thing happened as in the preceding paragraph, except that afterward - even though it gave all the same error codes - the Windows Update successfully ran.

I found a suggestion on a MS Windows site to run (in an administrator's Dos window) sfc /SCANNOW, which takes a long time to run and I did so and it found nothing and still the problem exists.

I found a note from a Go... Read more

Hi. Firstly, thanks for the info. I had encountered the same problem with windows update error 8024DFFE on my Acer 4830, Win7 64bit 2 days ago and was trying to find a solution online without any success. But then I came across ur post and realized that I have a similar configuration as you. I also uses comodo firewall and avast antivirus. This led me to think that either one of them is the problem. I disable the firewall and can now check for updates. How that helps.

Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1

I have been trying unsuccessfully to do all of the helps to get Windows Update to check for updates and install. I tried all of the Fixit and Windows Update Troubleshooter batch files, etc. I thought I was making headway this morning when it said updates would install on the next shutdown. So I shutdown. Looks like 57 updates had a failed status. When I ran the check for updates again, I get the following error code:
C80003FA

I googled and really only found the same help items I have already tried, the fixit's etc.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.
After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
Information about your computer will appear.

Hello all I am scouring the internet for answers but I can't seem to find any so I thought I should ask the Gurus down at the Windows Vista Forums. Answer:Windows Update Error Code 643

Hello Peacemaker,

When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows Installer error code "1603"

RESOLUTION

To successfully install the update, uninstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer, and then reinstall all the versions of the .NET Framework on the computer. You may have to work through more than one of the following methods.

Method 1: Manually remove and reinstall .NET Framework
To manually remove and reinstall the .NET Framework, follow these steps:

1. Remove the .NET Framework.
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Note each version of the .NET Framework that is already installed on the computer. Then, uninstall all the versions of the .NET Framework.
4. When you are prompted, restart the computer.
Method 2. Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to clean up the MSI database state for all the versions of the .NET Framework.

1. Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe
2. Install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility as an administrator or as a user account that is a member of the local Administrators group.

For more than one year, my automatic Windows Update process has unsuccessfully tried to install (around once a day !) KB3001652 (Visual studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime). I haven't seen any problem with other automated Updates of Windows, MS Office, NET.Framework, etc....

I have tried first "Fix-It" which doesn't produce any error message. Secondly I launched "SURT", which tells me "This update doesn't apply to your computer". "SFC /scannow" doen't report any violation issue.I don't know how to do for resolving this problem.

I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64 bits SP1. Norton (NIS, the most recent version), "ShellfolderFix" and also Tune-Up utilities are installed on my PC. I have also tried to install KB3001652 manually after having deactivated the firewall and the "Auto-Protect" functions of Norton : no success.

Fellow code crunchers,

Every once and a while I will have a download waiting from HP in Windows update. I will try and download it, but it always fails. I have a HP Laser Jet 600 M601 and I believe that's what the download states it is for. Below is the error message I keep getting every time I try and download it.

HP Inc. - Other hardware, Printer - HP LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601, M602 & M603 printer series (DOT4PAR)
Installation date: ‎12/‎14/‎2016 7:15 AM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 800F020B
Update type: Optional
HP Inc. Other hardware, Printer software update released in May, 2013

I am not too distressed about this, but I am curious to know what is happening.

Thanks for your answer in advance.

John

Answer:error code from windows update

Error details: Code 800F020B. This apparently indicates that the device does not exist. So the update may not be applicable to your printer.

If you are not distressed about it & your printer is working well, it might be best to just hide the update, so you don't keep getting the update, & forget about it.

If you really want the update it's always best to get updates directly from the manufacturer, so go to their website & check for any updates that are applicable to particular model printer.

I have two updates available from Windows Update:

2) Update for Microsoft Office suites (KB2596848)

I tried to download them but I got the error code: 8007003 as soon as the downloading start.

You have a number of problems in the registry - as far as I can see at present, there are no file problems.

Please copy the file C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS (no file extension) to your desktop, and then compress it.
Then upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (SkyDrive or Dropbox would be fine) and post a link.

Either myself or Tom982 will then pick it up, and see what we can do with it.

If it doesn't help:

1. Make sure you copy-paste the command:

See DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8

Hey,
The windows update successfully downloads updates and then when I click "Install Updates" it says:
Error Found:
Code 80070002 Windows encountered an unknown error.
I know this has been mentioned many times from multiple people and I have tried nearly every suggestion I have found and nothing has worked. I have many important files on my PC, so a clean install would be the very last thing I would try.
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit.
Any help would be appreciated greatly!

Thanks

Answer:Windows Update Error Code 80070002! NEED HELP!

Oh and by the way,
I uninstalled my SP1 and SP2 from my PC to try an upgrade install from within windows (My Setup DVD did not have any SP's on it. It also came with the computer from dell, already installed). I had heard that this works like a repair install and helps fix any corrupt system file problems. But when it gets to the second part of the install (after copying windows files, i think) it says:
Windows was unable to complete the installation and will install when you restart the installation again. The installation window popped up again and so I tried again. It said the same thing, I tried it multiple times but it refuses to work. I rebooted and it booted into windows setup, not vista. It started and then said:
The setup could not start or something like that. Using msconfig I have changed the default OS back to vista.

Hey guys I have a problem when looking for updates in Windows VIsta Home Premium.
I freshly reinstalled Vista after getting some weird errors and not starting up last time so I had to use the Vista recovery disk. I promptly tried to check for updates in Windows Update but it gave me the error code "C0150004". It suggested to get Fix It but it wouldn't install PowerShell so I couldn't use that.

Please Help me with my problem!
Thanks

Answer:Windows Update Error Code "C0150004"

I would suggest the following steps after which you can try to install the Windows Updates.

1) Empty the software distribution folder

1. Click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search box, right-click services.msc, and then click Run as administrator.

2. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Stop.

3. Minimize the Services (local) window.

4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them.

Note : By default, the Windows distribution folder is located in the drive :\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. In this location, drive is a placeholder for the drive where Windows is installed. Example "C:\windows\softwaredistribution"

5. Make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then maximize the Services (local) window.

6. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Start.

7. Restart the computer, and then run Windows Update again.

Suddenly yesterday Windows update starting returning an error each time I tried to install updates. The updates are being downloaded ok but when I select install I get the following:

Code 800B0100 Windows update encountered an unknown error

I have researched this but the information I found related to "compatability check" software which I guess relates to earlier Windows versions and compatability with Windows 7.

I have also tried the download/install with security switched off, this made no difference either.

Has anyone got an idea where I should go from here?

Thanks in advance.

Mervyn

Answer:Windows Update error code 800B0100

Hello,

Try the following one by one, checking after each.

1) Disable your firewall.

2) Navigate to the folder C:\windows\softwaredistribution and rename it to something like softdis.old.

3) Download the installer manually from windows download center to your hdd. Then restart in safe mode and install the update by double clicking on the saved file. Restart.

4) Windows Update - Reset

5) Try the MS Fixit.

How do I reset Windows Update components?

Hello TSF,

I'm working on a new in box Dell PC that came with Windows 7 (64bit) Professional. After setting up the PC, copying user data and software, we attempted to update windows.

Everything was updating perfectly until we tried to update SP1 (KB976932) and Security Update (KB2425227). Trying to install either updaet will produce error code 800F0818.

I have tried downloading the updates directly to the desktop and installing my self but no luck (same error code).

Any suggestions?

I have tried to install them several times since they was released, but every time I get the same Error Code: 800B0100.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium installed as the OS in my T61p. Today, Windows Update showed the follwoing two updates available: --  Update for Windows Live Sign-in Asistant (KB 967912)   --  Important--  Lenovo - Other hardware  - ThinkPad PM Device    --   Recommended The first one (Windows Live Sign-in Assistant) installed with no problems.  The second one (ThinkPad PM Device) failed installation and the following error message was provided: Code 80070103  --  Windows Update encountered an unknown error. It amazes me that Microsoft offers a specific update to my system and then, when it fails installation, all it can provide is a message about an unknown error... After some research, it is still Microsoft itself that suggests I contact the hardware manufacturer for further assistance... I am not aware of any problem with my system, so I'm tempted to just discard the update. But, out of curiosity, I wonder what those PM initials (as in ThinkPad PM Device) stand for and also whether anyone has ever encountered this same problem and/or can provide any insights into the real meaning of the error message. Thanks in advance for any feedback.    .

Answer:Error code 80070103 during Windows Update

JanetL wrote in another thread a few considerations on updating or not updating your system with anythng that comes around, just because it's available. JanetL will certainly excuse me for taking the liberty of citing her here, out the context on which she made her statement, but I must say I agree completely with her reasoning, and this taught me a good lesson. I consider myself as being one of those "hot-blooded" enthusiasts who constantly labour to keep their systems up to the minute on all and everything that pops-up... I realize now this is a mistake. Like she says: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"... In fact, why am I even bothering to "out of curiosity" asking the community what the hack that "Lenovo - Other hardware  - ThinkPad PM Device    --   Recommended" update" is all about and why my system refuses to install it? JanetL, you are completely right. My system is NOT broke. Why on earth am I trying to fix it? Kudos for your posting!

I've been trying to update windows 7 (64 bit pro) for a couple weeks now, but every time I try, it says update failed, and gives me a code 80072efe. Googling that led me to a bunch of microsoft tech forum pages, most saying I should delete / rename catroot2. I booted into ubuntu, renamed the folder to _catroot2, and booted back into windows. Same deal. Other posts said it could be a virus, but a system scan (AVG, new definitions) came back with 0 infections.

Recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Answer:error code 80072efe (windows update)

AVG is not a very good product anymore compared to what is offered now days by Microsoft, Avast and, Avira. I wouldn't trust it's results. But it does sound like a possible malware infection.

I would download this, which is a Microsoft scanning tool that specifically searches for and removes malware that targets Windows functionality. It works well doing a full scan. Otherwise it is not a replacement for AVG or any of the previously listed products. It has one single function. This is normally downloaded monthly via Windows Update, but since you are unable to download it normally, you can download it this way.

So not that the cause really matters, but i had a external hard drive transferring video files with my OS and i cancelled it but it never truly canceled and at the same time was running the new update (like 10 "important" updates showed up a few days ago) and i cancelled that too and it too wouldnt truly cancel. So i restarted my PC.

Now when i try to update these 8 things, i get "Failed" and the error code: 800B0100.

3-Sec Update for .Net Framework 3.5.1
4-Security Update for Windows 7 for x64 based Systems
1-Update for Windows 7 for x64 based systems.

I have tried the system update readiness tool and that changed nothing. I have tried the Net framework cleanup tool and that changed nothing. Same with the windows update trouble shooter. ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956702 )

So what do i do? Is this my last option before a clean install?

If all of the steps above yielded no results, the next logical step is to perform an InPlace upgrade.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on a 64 bit operating system. I haven't used this computer in over a year, but my brother has been using it since, but hasn't kept it updated at all or with any anti-virus. I was able to install everything on Windows Update except Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2621440). I've tried everything from simply restarting, rebooting in safe mode and safe mode with networking (I could not open windows update either of those ways), and doing a safe mode with networking full scan with Malewarebytes Anti-Malware, Super Anti Spyware, and Microsoft Security Essentials. I did find 2 trojans and removed them and rebooted, but was unable to install this security pack still. When I tried installing the individual version of the security pack online, it told me the update did not apply to this system. I also tried running the windows update repair tool.

On a side note, but related to the issue of trying to make the computer more secure, I made a separate administrator account and downgraded my own account to a standard user, but I'm unable to demote my brother's administrator account. His is not password protected, but there is no option to change the account type, even when I'm logged on as him or under the other administrator account I just made.

Answer:Windows update error code 8007065E

Assign a password to your brother's account. Maybe then the demotion will work.

hello,

I need some help with my computer.
When i check for updates, i have an error with the code 80080005.

The history of it:
The problem started some time ago, some updates would fail to install and after that every time i tried to logoff the computer or reboot it, I'd get the (expected) message of configuration of Windows after an update, but it just stuck there for hours, so ever since i shut it down by pressing on the button.

I tried at the time the procedure of renaming/deleting [SoftwareDistribution] folder, but it did not work.

Now i replaced the [SoftwareDistribution] folder with the original one (before the renaming/deleting procedure) but still WU does not work.

I tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool, it gave me the illusion of solving a 0x8024402c error but it did not work.

Now here i am:

- The error code is 80080005.
- The System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) took 17 hours to complete and shows a fail status.
- The SFC Scan didn't show any errors.
- The Logs Collection (in the attachment)
CBS.rar

Thanks for helping.

Hi guys,

I've been struggling with this problem for 3 days now. I feel like I'm gonna loose it!!
I hadn't update Windows for a while and now it just freezes on "checking for updates..."
I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 with Windows 7 Ultimate SP1.

I read a lot of posts on the net and tried each and every one of them!
I ran TDSKiller, Malwarebytes, CCcleaner, Avast and SuperAntiSpyware. A trojan horse was found and 4 threats were quarantined.

I tried :
Reset_Windows_Update_History
Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components
WindowsUpdateDiagnostic
ccsetup512
WindowsUpdateAgent-7.6-x86
MicrosoftFixit50362
Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x86
The clean boot method and renaming the Windows update Software distribution folder
I also tried to remove battery from laptop and keep the "power button" pressed
I also tried the Windows system repair disc (which did absolutely nothing)
The scan in the command prompt does'nt find any problem

Some of these apps "fixed" corrupted files but the problem still isn't solved.

Am I missing anything? What else can I try?
Thanks a lot for sharing the headache with me!
Kim

Answer:Windows Update Error code:80070490

Hello Gamer,

To resolve this issue, you must perform a repair installation of Windows Vista. Performing a repair installation will restore the current Windows installation to the version of the installation DVD. This also requires the installation of all updates that are not included on the installation DVD.

Recently I encountered error on Windows Update and it showed me the error code "80070008" in which it says that my computer might have run out of memory. I am actually unsure which "memory" the error message is talking about as my RAM seems to still have plenty of room (C: has 200GB space left, while RAM is mostly used about 27~30% out of 8GB).

Here are my troubleshoot attempts:

1. Disabled Firewall and AntiVirus Program
Disabled my AV protection, firewall to no avail. I also tried uninstalling my AV program and disabled Windows Defender. But the problem is still there.

2. Manual update installation
Tried to download the update files from Microsoft and attempted installation, but failed to install.

3. Windows Update Diagnostic Tool

The tool stated three errors with "Fixed" status:
- Service registration is missing or corrupt
- Windows Update error 0x80070490 (2015-07-21-T-11_33_07P)
- Problems installing recent updates
...but problem persists.

4. System File Check

I run sfc /scannow command at Advanced Startup (notice the X: prompt)... unsure if I did it right, because I couldn't seem to perform it on normal startup nor Safe Mode (Error message: Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation).

So through advanced startup, I receive result saying "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them." and rebooted my system. Yet I felt there was no changes and I am still unable ... Read more

I keep getting this code when I attempt to search for new updates see attached. I downloaded the SURT and it installed Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) Successfully. A tech with microsoft had me run the stand alone updater and everytime Windows tries to install the updates most all of them fail. See attached screen shot. I ran the SFC/scannow and it did not find any integrity violations. The compressed CBS file (22.5 MB) exceeded the Max FIlesize of 8 MB so I was unable to attach to this post.

Please let me know what to try next.

Thank You

I broke the CBS file into three files but the zipped cbs log still excedes the allowed file size. I also only zipped the most recent CBS Persist file. WHen I shut down my PC it says it is installing 144 updates but then fails to configure them and reverts.

Let me know if you require further information.

Right click on cmd in start menu and select 'Run as Administrator'

Type: net stop wuauserv

Press Enter

Type: ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old

Press Enter

Type: net start wuauserv

Press Enter

Type: exit

Press Enter
Now download updates. You have deleted the history of the updates so it may be a while scanning.

Thank you so much! I have been struggling with my PC for 48 hours but your thread seems to have solved this problem.
I am really grateful! I am only surprised that the problem never showed up on my Asus Zenbook Ultrabook with exactly the same win7 64bit version, only on my custom built PC. At least, not so far :-)

I have had quite a lot of problems trying to get Windows Update to work. I first noticed it when I couldn't get Windows Defender to update and realized that Windows Update didn't work. I've tried a number of recommended actions (Windows Update Troubleshooter, Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components.bat), but nothing seems to be clearing up the problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

In attempting to update w10 to the new update the update aborts with an 0x80070057 error. I looked up this error and it is rather vague with something wrong in the resistry,, but it does not specify the problem. Also how do you fix it so that I can get the new update

Good day fine folks at MG. Many unsucessful attempts to install Service Pack 1 on a co-worker's Pc. Keep getting the Error Code: 8024200D.

I've tried using MS System Readiness Tool and I've also used the MS Update Troubleshooting Tool.

My other option is to open communication with Microsoft via e-mail. Thought I might get a better response from the fine folks over here.

Anyone have a solution for this?

System is:
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit

Not sure you need hardware specs but here they are:
Asus Laptop
Pentium Dual Core Processor, 2.3GHz
Ram - 4 GB

Thank you for any suggestions.

Regards,

Paul

Answer:Windows 7 SP1 Update Error Code 8024200D

Manually downloaded the SP1 update and trying that now.

I also shut off virus protection and firewall while doing the update, as MS has suggested that being a possible cause to updates not installing.

The background CBS.log data, however is a nightmare

The really strange thing is that I can find no evidence that an SFC scan has been run in the past 4 months!
This is possibly because of the other corruption present.

Some of the errors I'm seeing in the CBS log make me think that you are likely to be having RAM problems.

Please follow the instructions in this tutorial, and post the results.

Hello. I've been constantly trying to update my computer. I previously got both error code 800b0100 and error code 80073712. After downloading and running CHECKSUR, the 80073712 code went away, and now i only receive 800b0100. I've run CHECKSUR many times with no fix. I've attached my CBS folder, which includes all my SFC log and the CHECKSUR logs. The other files, which include several zipped "CBS persist" folders, were too big to upload. I can attach more as needed. Any and all help is much appreciated. This has been a nightmare.
