Whenever I edit a file stored on a NAS drive, the Created Date keeps changing, not just the Modified Date.

Question: Whenever I edit a file stored on a NAS drive, the Created Date keeps changing, not just the Modified Date.

Help! I am using a Seagate Central 4TB NAS drive attached to my router via Ethernet. It has been working fine so far for all kinds of file activities. But whenever I modify a file in one of its folders, the creation date for the file also updates and is
changed to the same time as the new modified date.
Maybe relevant details:
I can move/copy folders to the drive and they maintain their created dates.
It happens for both a private user share on the NAS and for the Public share on it.
It happens for at least image files and text files.
I am able to edit files across two computers on the network just fine, the create date stays the same.
This happens from a new Windows 10 machine and Vista machine both.
I notice sometimes the date created seems to stay same until I access the file the next time.
I can't update the NAS firmware because of error.

If it could be a permissions problem, I have been unable to change it from:
Everyone: Special Permissions only
nobody (Unix Group\nobody): Special Permissions only
nogroup (Unix Group\nogroup): Special Permissions only
(Those were there automatically, they are not something I manually put there. I get "Access is denied" whenever try to add permissions or change ownership.)

I have Googled many phrases of this problem far and wide and come up with nothing. I really need to save the original create date because that's how I sort them in programs like Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa. Does anyone know what's going on or what to
try to fix this problem, prevent the creation date from changing every time I edit the file?
Please, am desperate.

Preferred Solution: Whenever I edit a file stored on a NAS drive, the Created Date keeps changing, not just the Modified Date.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The title is self-explanatory. So far, I found a software that is able to change this called 'Attribute Changer' but it only changes the date modified in the folder and, when you go into the actual word application > file > info, the date created and modified are not changed. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Please help with this question about file date-created VS date-modified in Windows 7.

Suppose a file is created at time1.

How come Windows7 reports "date created" as "time1" and "date modified" as "time2" where "time2" is a time earlier than time1?

See the attached file, "WindowsDateIssue201203061503.png", for an example.

Thanks.

Answer:file date-created VS date-modified where modified < created

If you (/your computer) have not played with system time:

That means that file is a copy of a file created earlier.

To confirm, find an old file and copy it to another folder/disc.
Check the dates.

This situation can also occur with some archives (depending on your settings).

Answer:date-created VS date-modified on Windows 7

Good question, but it does not effect the performance of the computer.
An explanation could be the DLL file could be updated via a recent Windows update and it was last modified date was inherited from the previous file that has been overwritten.

Hi
Apologies for the title - I tried to encompass my problem.

Basically, it's this:

I have a drive that I need to copy all the data from and move to a larger drive (1TB DAS moved to a 6TB NAS device). I need to preserve the folder's date created and (if possible) modified attributes, as the data being copied is a WIP folder for a big CGI
project, and it's important to be able to track and find specific info/folders via date created... essentially the job is ongoing for another 6/7 months.

So, normal copy/paste won't do... thanks to this forum :) I've used Xcopy and worked out how to migrate the data and keep the all the new/copy folder's date created and modified attributes in line with the original/source.

Meaning I can make a perfect copy with folder dates that match.

However (and this is where I am head scratching), as soon as any new data is added into the copy folder, it's attributes change... not only the folder's modified date (which I was expecting) but also the date created folder.

This is a problem as the folders will have new data added to them on an ongoing basis... but, as both modified and created dates change to the time the new file is added, it causes issues when finding specific nested folders via creation date.

Example: Copy folder (done today via Xcopy) shows creation and modified date as per the source of 11/12/2012. As soon as any file is added into that folder, it updates modified and creation to the time the file w... Read more

Answer:How to maintain Folder attributes (date created/modified) on a 'Copy' - when a new file is added

BTW - with the Xcopy, it was a 2 stage process. /s/e/k first then a copy over but using /d/t/e/k. Copying in the first pass and then overwriting the folders in the second pass (with the correct creation date).

Thanks for the Robocopy/mir tip... that will work for bulk copying the data... sadly, when it's on the NAS, any additions to the folder change the creation date. Pretty sure it's the NAS file system (or lack of compatibility).

Going to test some spurious data using some other DAS drives - as I think it's the NAS (as per Lacie's reply).

Now I need to find a NAS that'll handle NTFS.

But at least I feel I'm getting somewhere now - thanks :)

There is no way to change the date a file is created or modified. That is controlled by the OS and you would have to basically hack the OS to do it. Which we dont help with here.

We're performing a directory inventory at the office that requires us to get rid of any directory that hasn't had a file modified since 1/1/08. However, the date in the 'Date Modified' column will always stay the same as the day the folder was initially created. For example, if I made a folder named "Joe's Docs" on 01/02/07 but just added a file on 7/8/10, the 'Date Modified' on "Joe's Docs" will still read 01/02/07.

Is there a program out there that will change the date modified to the most recent file in all of the subfolders? The best way I can describe it is to draw a short diagram of the theoretical directories with their dates modified below them.

Code:
Joe's Docs
07/08/10
| |
| |
Folder A Folder B
07/08/10 03/05/08
| | |
| | |
File A File B File C
07/08/10 02/01/08 03/05/08

Hi,

I would like to create some kind of batching script that replaces the date modified of many folders with their date created, any advice on what I should use to do this? I'm thinking JScript might do it, but I've not used that before, and not sure how to go about setting up to use it, or if it really is suitable.

The reason for this request, we have a media server shared on a local network, specifically an "incoming" folder that needs to be write enabled. When some users browse to folders inside incoming they create a thumbs.db file, which touches the containing folder's modified date. We could (and have) gotten those users to turn off that setting, but it only takes one person to mess it up, and has become a recurring problem over the years. Unfortunately, some other devices on the network (eg iPads) can not sort folders by date created, only date modified, so I would like to reset the folder dates automatically.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

edit, after a bit more googling, it looks like powershell is the right tool for something like this, yes?

This question pertains specifically to a video that is being downloaded.

What is being done to the video in order for the file modified date to change?

From other forums ive gathered that it might be Windows Media player modifying some meta data automatically.

Does this modification happen to files that have previously been played in Windows Media Player?

Or can you have video files anywhere on your computer and WMP will modify the video file at least once after the original download occured(Even if you haven't
viewed this video yet)?

I am trying to see if this information can tell me if someone has viewed the videos that have been downloaded or not.

I have 4 videos downloaded from within 15 minutes of each other. Each of the 4 videos have the modification time the same or 1 second difference.  So
it does seem to be something WMP is automatically modifying something.  So if anyone could shed some light onto the process that would be great.

The format for all the videos that have a modified date after a created date are, .wmv , .mpg , .mp4 , .vk.flv , .flv .

Any Information or feedback would be greatly appreciated

"date modified" field does not update when files are replaced in a zip folder while running Windows 7 64-bit.

Data files are stored in zip files and utilized daily. At the days end the files are replaced with the most current revision. The updated file displays the correct "date modified", however when the filed is transfered into the zip file, the "date modified" displayed within the zip file does not update.

I don't have this problem with Windows XP or 2000. Is there some hidden setting that is needed for Windows 7 to recognize file modification dates just as every version prior?

It becomes frustrating that Microsoft continues to add nice new fancy operating features, but yet continuously fails to ensure the basic functions are maintained.

Answer:Windows 7 zip file date modified

You must be seeing things because it updates the modified time just fine.

I am using Word 2007. Each time I open a .doc or .docx file, the date modified changes, as displayed in Windows Explorer. This happens when I just choose file open, and then exit, without ever doing anything with the file.

Previous versions of Word would appear to do the same thing. However, when the file was closed, the date modified in windows explorer to revert back to the previous date. Word 2007 causes the current date accessed to become the date modified.

This makes it very confusing, as it looks as though I am making changes to the file, when I am not.

Help appreciated...marty

My XP Pro has recently stopped updating the modified date / time to reflect when I modify a file.

The problem relates to the application that updates the files and not the file themselves. E.g.:

MS Notepad, Word, Excel, Outlook, Microangelo, Photoshop, Winmerge - all update the Modified field as expecetd.

MS Wordpad, EditPlus, TopStyle, Notepad++, FastStone Image Viewer - all do *not* update the Modified field.

I tried ending all non-critical tasks, but problem persists.

The problem does not appear when running in Safe Mode.

I've used system restore to go back as far as I can but no fix there. I can't find any reference to the problem on the web.

Any suggestions very gratefully received.

If I understand what your asking:

Why can Last Modified Date and Creation Date be the same

They would be the same, for example. You draw a picture in paint, save it and dont edit it again. When you save it you create the file, and seeing you dont edit it the modfication date and the creation date will be the same.

Hi. I need help creating a .bat file that compares 2 same file on 2 different computers (server and client) on a LAN network..
It compares the same file on a server cpu, and there are 4 possible conditions i think:
- Same date on server > then do no action
- Older date on server> no action
- Newer date on server> action, sync using goodsync command line (i'll work on this)
- Connection with the server down > no action
So it's like this :
abc.txt on client 11/01/12
abc.txt on server 12/01/12

then sync

My question is, how exactly do i compare file on a LAN network?
thanks

Answer:Need help creating a batch file based on last modified date..

Welcome to TSG denywinarto. Hope you find some help here and take the opportunity to help others!

I quit doing Batch files a while back an went to vbs because it seems more robust. That said there is a vbs script in this thread (post #3) that you point at a directory and it makes a text file of file information including modified date and the full path to the file.

If you run this against your two folders (producing the two text file) then write a process that compares the two files and moves data according to your desires. You can do the file move and compare in vbs and not have to worry about the goodysnc piece.

When moving a file to an SD Card through the card reader the Date Modified is resetting.
Any idea why?

Answer:when moving file to SD card date modified resets

To me, this is normal.

When you 'move' or 'copy' file to a new location, the date reset itself.
This could mean that this is new file on this new location, so a new date/time.

However, when I save new files and look at the date (or transfer to FTP), it says June 2099! I wouldn?t think of it being a huge problem except when I try and back-up files on my computer to CD, it won?t save these because it doesn?t recognize the date. When using Windows Explorer, a directory listing can show a number of different columns of course but it appears the default is Date Modified .. which is fine. However, it doesn't show "seconds". The same appears to be the case for the command line output for "dir".

I'm reorganizing my hard drives on my Windows 7 Professional system (because I am filling up one of several).  I've copied a directory structure and files to a different drive, using:

Can someone explain what happened and how I might retain the original date/time info on the executable files, please?

The Windows Live Mail *.eml files time stamp is getting changed to the current date when the file is selected in the Windows Explorer! I save backup copies of important E-mails to folders on the Hard Drive and then synchronize them with the same folders on other LAN Hard Drives for backup archives. When these E-mail files are selected or opened from the Windows Explorer in the Windows 7 OPS the Modified Date Time Stamp is changed to the current date automatically! This action creates a real problem when doing later synchronizations of all of the folders! The date will not be the original date of the E-mail and the original file will be over copied with the file with the newest date stamp. I stopped Indexing on the *.eml files and that stopped the time stamp change when overcopy synchronization, but if the file is selected during a viewing in Windows Explorer then the Time Stamp is updated to the current date again! A solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated if anybody knows of one. Thanks - - - Shorto

Answer:*.eml Time Stamp - Select File in Windows Explorer Changes the Modified Date

The Date and Timestamp changing issue in Windows 7 has a two part fix!
1. Disable the Indexing of the *.eml file type in the Indexing Options located by Clicking on "Control Panel" -  "Indexing Options" - Advanced Button - File Types Tab - scroll down to the .eml file type and uncheck the Box then click OK to finish, so
that the Email type of files won't be Indexed.
2. Delete the Registry Entry listed below, be sure to Export and Save the original Key so it could be Restored if something goes wrong!  \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PropertySystem\PropertyHandlers
 and Delete the .eml entry

That should fix the problem with the changing Date/Timestamp of Email Files. For more information read CarlS's WindowsSeven Fourm thread where I also have more input:

 http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/35334-eml-files-timestamps-updated-constantly.html

I think what happened. Sunday night began a manual backup by trying to select entire My Docs and copy to laptop DVD R/W drive disk. Computer said it would take 2 days so 35 mins in I cancelled. It said there was a large set of temp files and I could retain or remove, I removed.

Went to bed.

Next day 11:04 am ran a malware prgm called CacheCleaner. Have run it 1000+ times and no issue this time.

Few days later go to access Quicken - no can do. File is damaged. Went to open my budget file in excel, says" file is in a different format than specified by the file extension. ..." Open it anyways, its completely empty. Go to open a MS word doc, cannot open, says there are problems with the contents. PDF problems too.

Every file has been mysteriously updated Date Modified to 1/4/2010 11:04am. None will open. Any file not dated 1/4/2010 11:04am opens fine.

Was there some temp pointer type file created during my aborted backup operation that was then deleted when I emptied my temp files etc when I ran Cache Cleaner.
This is horribly impactful b/c my last backup is old. Please help if you can.....

To me if a started a file a week ago be it a Word Document, or whatever then last week is when it was created. If the day after I do something to that file than that day is the date when that files has been changed, or as Windows puts it, 'modified'.
What bothers me is if I now make a copy of this file, a simple cut and paste, for example, its Properties will now tell me that the file was 'created' today. Well NO it wasn't created today it was only copied today. And that though this newly copied file may have been 'created' today that is misleading. To me very much so. Let's face it should the original file be deleted for whatever reason there is now no evidence as to when this file was actually begun (unless there is actual text within the file stating so) only when it was last accessed or last modified. Files are moved from one folder to another or to another subfolder or to another computer all of the time.
Doesn't anyone feel something is wrong with this? It is something that has bothered me since the beginning of time. Anyhow, is there a way of stopping windows from doing this? This would imply one or both of two things -1- Have the "Date created" not change when something is copied OR -2- Have an extra entry in its properties saying "Original date created" or 'Date copied" or something to that effect.

(One would think that in this day and age of Identity theft, High-tech forgeries and high-tech CSI forensics such a detail would be important)

In Windows XP, I could always overwrite a file with a new one, but keep the date created from the original file. I noticed Windows 7 just overwrites it and puts the new date as the date created. Is there any way to change an option or anything that will keep the original date created? Just wondering because the original dates are important to me.

Answer:How to overwrite an old file, but keep the original date created?

Are you sure you're looking at "date created" and not "date modified" at the top of the column?

You can right-click the title at the head of any column and ass additional attributes to display in Windows Explorer to get the columns you want displayed.

I am a PC user. I am new to Windows Vista this year and was opening some old documents that I had transfered onto my new laptop when I noticed that every time I open a document, the "date modified" automatically updates and changes the file properties. I do not want this to occur. Is there any way I can change this setting? I only want the date modified to change when I actually make a modification to the document. Thank you.

Answer:How to stop "date modified" from automatically changing

What program do you use to open the documents?
I don't think anything in Vista or word will do this automatically, unless you do indeed modify the doc.
Have you perhaps been using one of the numerous "Tuning" programs?

It seems like I've seen about software that does this, but bypassed it because I didn't yet perceive the need for it.

I just downloaded a video with Ant Download Manager to my crowded desktop. I had a very difficult time finding it, because it put a completely erroneous "Date Modified" on it, and my Windows Explorer window was under "Arrange Icons by Modified". I wanted to compare different downloads of the same video side by side to note differences in size and quality, so I don't want a video I just downloaded with a false date of November 13.

This isn't the first time I've had trouble from downloading something and having a hard time finding it because of a false date. If anybody knows any way to prevent false dating, please let me know.

This is a question :Query re "date created" and "date modified" If a folder of many files be it Microsoft Excel Files and or MS Word files have been burned  on the same date to a CD; the list of files specifies that the "date modified" is the date that the folder of files were burned to the CD.I know that it is possible through File then Properties to see the "date created" of each individual file once the file has been opened, but what I am looking for is a way to see a list of the files with the original "date created".  1.      Is there any way in which one can see the list of files  (ie through Windows Explorer) a listing of the file name       with the original "date created"?2.      Is there a way of doing this in Windows XP or another verion of Windows?Thank you for any help:)

It seems that file backup software resets the file created date to the date of the backup; in this case the critical files are .CAD (AutoCad) files, and I need to know when the project began. It was several years ago, and I do not recall the backup programs that were used, and old HDs were wiped; recovery attempts indicate - no .CAD files or fragments. Is there a way to find or restore the original file created date...?

Answer:restoring, or finding. the original 'file created' date

Try right clicking on the file, click on properties, and you should see the create date, as well as the last modify and access dates. This works for many types of files, although I don't know about .cad files. I use Ghost for backup, and it shows the last date modified by me, not the software (right click/properties is not available for the backup file).

If you don't have the file on your computer separate from the backup copy, depending on your backup software, you might be able to restore the file to a different location so as not to overwrite you current copy, then look at its properties.

Hey 7-Forums!

I have my music library, a 20GB folder on my hard-drive, containing a few thousand mp3s.
I use iTunes to play them, and I've always sorted them (inside iTunes) using the "Date Modified" property.

As a result of this sorting order, say,
if I found out an old song had the wrong name, or simply missing a capital letter and
corrected this, the song would move up to the top of my iTunes library because it is now the "newest".

This bothered me, so I decided to change the "Date Modified" of all my mp3s back to the original date:
the same as the "Date Created" of the file, using ATTRIBUTE CHANGER 7.
Unfortunately, I did not pay attention to what I was doing with the Attribute Changer and instead of changing the "Date Modified", I accidentally reset the "Date Created" of all the files to now.

This means that all timestamps were reset and my organized library is now f*cked.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Does anyone know how to undo timestamp changes??

Answer:Restoring "Date Created" timestamp after accidentally changing it.

Hi and welcome to the seven forum. Have you tried a system restore to a date before you made the changes

I have today transferred a number of videos from my smartphone to my tablet and in so doing the copied files all reflect the current date as opposed to the original creation date. This means that they do not therefore appear in date order for the purpose of viewing in date order.
I can change the file names alphabetically but that does not help as the tablet only allows display in date order.
It is many years since I changed the date attribute and cannot for the life of me remember the method.

The file system does not maintain any kind of history of date changes. Once the creation date (or any other data) has been changed the original date is lost.

I use Windows XP Pro. I need to change the date stamp on some image files that recorded the date years early. The digital camera batteries were left out for several days, then when the batteries were installed I did not set the current date, they stayed at the cameras default date.

Windows help file talkes about "file properties" window with tabs, but I only see one tab. Any ieas?

Answer:changing file creation date

Hi Chas9 !

If you're talking about a date that appears at the bottom of the image then there's nothing you can do, it's part of the image.

If you wish to change the file attribute then there are many freewares on the internet that can do that. A google search found this freeware which should do the trick :
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/filedatech.html

Else Total Commander (fully fonctionnal 30 days shareware) has many other uses but can do just what you want. Select your files with right-click (or press + then type *.jpg if these are all .jpg files) then go to files => change attributes.

Hi,
I need help with the following problem: Using MS cabarc.exe, I create an archive containing several files. Some of those files were last modified over a year ago, and others were last modified only a day ago. When I then use cabarc.exe to extract the files, I've noticed that the "Date Last Modified" property of the files created recently has changed by only one or two seconds. The "Date Last Modified" for the older files does not change at all.

For example, the following two files were added to the archive on 01/22/05:
textfile-1.txt => Date Last Modified = 03/05/04 12:15:22 pm
textfile-2.txt => Date Last Modified = 01/10/05 09:20:10 pm

When extracted from the archive, I get the following:
textfile-1.txt => Date Last Modified = 03/05/04 12:15:22 pm
textfile-2.txt => Date Last Modified = 01/10/05 09:20:12 pm

I ran AVG with the latest virus definitions but no viruses were detected. I am posting my Hijackthis log in hopes that someone will notice something that might be running and causing this problem.

I apologize for posting to the "general" forum here - even though my issue concerns gmail, it may have something to do with file handling in Windows 7, so I'm shooting for the broader audience in this forum.

How do I save an attached file from my gmail account, such that the date and time stamp, once saved to my local computer, remains the same as that of the original file?

That's how I just always assumed it was being done, and yet with gmail, the files are saved to my local computer with their save date/time, not the date/time of the actual file.

This is just wrong! If I send a file to 15 people, I want each recipient to have a saved file with the same date/time - not 15 different times based on when they saved them.

What am I missing, to force gmail/Windows to preserve the original file date and time stamp?

BTW, I posted this question to a gmail user forum, and the only answer I got so far is unhelpful, and likely wrong, gobbledygook.

Answer:Saving gmail file attachments without changing their date/time stamp?

Hi,
I doubt that can happen
At best there might be a universal Date Created or Date Taken on all of the files.
The camera it's self would enter that info "if" the time and date were correctly set on the device.

Ok, I tried IE7 for the first time recently and found a horrible bug that I can't find a reasonable solution to.

It has something to with IE7 (and IE8) updating the URLs "date modified" time stamp if the URL has a favicon.

Example :

goto this URL :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft

Drag the URL to your desktop or any folder. Note the date modified time stamp. A minute later, double click on the URL and let it open. Now look at the time stamp again. It will be automatically updated because this website has a favicon. IE7 will automatically update the date modified time stamp whether you want it to or not.

THIS IS A PAIN IN THE BEHIND if you have lots of URLs sorted by date modified.

The ONLY solution I have found is to change the properties of EVERY URL to "read only". This will prevent the time stamp from being overridden.

There has to be a better way than having to resort to this for every bookmark or URL.

This "feature" of IE7/IE8 really sucks and there should be an option to disable it.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:IE7 / IE8 bookmark date modified bug - ANY IDEAS?

I'm using IE7 and it's not doing what you're saying. The date modified/created/accessed date stays the same every time I reopen it after dragging the link you posted above to the desktop. Are you sure it's not being updated by your anti-virus software?

If you have IE8 set to delete your history/flush the cache every time you exit, that might also be a problem if it has to retrieve the icon every time. Sounds like a KAC problem.

I recently tried to open a document and found that it was filled with symbols looking like a 'y'. I finally determined that I had a large number of similar documents (word, excell, jpegs, publisher files) that were all unreadable.

1. They were scattered in many folders adjacent to readable files.
2. All unreadable files had the modified date of 05/01/2007 3:35 am (any file with another date was readable; any file of any type with this date was not).
3. The word documents of this type were unreadable with 'recovery' software or word's own recovery system.
4. I have had continuously running and updated virus software with daily 'clean' scans.
5. I did a Dell diagnostics on the computer and their extensive hard disk scan - no problems.
6. I do have online back up software but it, unfortunately, backed up the corrupted files since they were "modified."
7. My windows event log doesn't show anything happening at the time of this mass file modification.

I can't find anything really similar searching the net or microsoft's knowledge bases. Does this look familiar to anyone? Any ideas to fix? (other than switching to a mac ;-) ) Thanks!

Answer:unreadable documents with same modified date

Hi palmbsea !

What are the extension of those files ? In order to see the file extensions you have to open windows explorer (or my computer), go to tools => folder options => view and uncheck "hide extensions for known file types".

Could you provide us with some of the complete file names ? Are they documents you recall having created yourself ?

Whenever I copy a file to a folder in XP (Home and Pro) the folder's date modified attribute is updated to show the current time. Is there a way of stopping this? I'd rather it stayed the same as when the folder was created.

Answer:Folder date modified in Windows XP

Im not sure if you can stop this but I know there are free programs on the internet which let you change the date of files and folders if you wish to change the date back to what it was.

When I used XP Pro I used to download images from the net to a folder on my desktop which I could then sort by "Date Modified" (when viewing"Details"). I could then go back to thumbnail views and the most recently downloaded file was at the top of the display.

I do not appear to have this column in Windows 7 and my downloads are all over the place - and hence hard to find.

How do I restore this function please?

So, your downloads are going to various folders? Are you using IE to download, or what? Win 7 has a standard Downloads folder. Normally, downloads initiated via web browser would go to that folder unless you've designated a different location. Please explain your situation in more detail.

Hi Friends,

I am having a list of folders, say 50. Each folders contains thousands of files of different types (say .dat, .xls. .doc). I want to classify these files year wise and keep each in a folder having the particular year as name. This should be done for all these 50 parent folders. Then each folders and sub folders should be compressed.

Please help me,,, preferably not batch commands

Answer:Compress files modified before a particular date

How would you like this task solved if you don't want it done with a batch file?

I am using a program that OCR's a page and then creates a folder for it inside an output folder...
Goes like this:
Input folder -> OCR program -> Output folder -> [Folder just for that document]

I keep the output folder open so that i can see the new folders being created for the OCR records, which i can then drag additional files to that records folder.
Since im dealing with thousands of folders im depending on vista to sort by date modified so that the newest one shows up on top.... But im running into a problem

I've done about 700 records now (700 folders have been created) and for some reason the date modified stopped working. Now the new folder is showing up at the end instead of the beginning. If i hit F5 to refresh the window it move to the top where it should be.... but im going through thousands of records and hitting F5 for every record consumes time and makes room for error.

Why did vista stop sorting by date modified? I didnt change anything, all of the sudden it just stopped being consistent. I can restart the computer and sometimes it will start working properly again for about 30 records, but its not guaranteee.

Please help me fix this, THANKS!

8. File names are normal (for example, Letter to JP.doc). All files were created by me.

I can't find anything really similar searching the net or microsoft's knowledge bases. Does this look familiar to anyone? Any ideas to fix? (other than switching to a mac ;-) ) Thanks!

Hi! First off, I kinda suck with computers, so I'm sorry if I make this more difficult than it should be. Also, this is kind of a silly question.
When I used to download images, my computer would automatically add a 'date modified' thingy to it, so that I could sort through them easily by setting the folder to be arranged by the date I saved it. But it suddenly stopped adding the date modified- or any other properties- to anything I right-click-save, so that I have to search through my (admittedly large) folder and manually add the date. Is there any way I could set it back to automatically doing this? Thanks!

Answer:Won't automatically add 'Date modified' to downloads

Welcome to Seven Forums narwhalsmash. Try this.

File and Folder Arrangement - Group by - Sort by - Arrange by

Open a folder with the images> Right click a blank area and chose Sort by> Scroll down to More at the bottom> Scroll down to Date modified and put a check mark next to it> Now click on the Date modified text itself and on the right side, Move up should now be clickable> Click on Move up

This will move Date modified to the top of the list. See if your old behavior is now back.

Is it possible to search for items modified on a certain date and the time during said date, e.g 24/01/2011 3.57PM? What would the entry need be?
Thanks!

Answer:Can one search for date and time modified?

See if the following helps: Advanced tips for searching in Windows

For your example, the syntax will be: System.DateModified:=24/01/2011 15:57
