MIcrosoft Remote Control - lock screen, unable to go back, it's not possible to type in

Question: MIcrosoft Remote Control - lock screen, unable to go back, it's not possible to type in

Hi,

I'm using Win 8.1 Pro. I want to use Microsoft Remote Control app on my Ipad to connect my PC (w Win8). Connection is ok, I can see my PC on the Ipad, but on my PC's screen the lockscreen will be visible. After the leaving the app I can't type my password
on my PC (return to normal use), I can see the textbox, PC doesn't accept any keyboard input. I have only one option, to restart the PC.

May I ask your help?

Preferred Solution: MIcrosoft Remote Control - lock screen, unable to go back, it's not possible to type in

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How do I enable AMT/vPro KVM remote control on a Lenovo M82 3306-A1U with AMT v8?  I have the device manually provisioned in Enterprise mode, all other feature like SOL and IDE redirector work as expected.  Manageability Commander Tool shows the Remote Desktop Settings as disabled (and no way to enable it), but in the MEBx there is nothing explicitly referencing the remote KVM to enable.  LANDesk is my go-to management console, though I've had a bit more luck with both Radmin and the Manageability Developer Toolkit when just validating vPro status and functionally, but still can't get the KVM remote control to accept the incoming TCP request.  I'm not yet using TLS until I can get it working in my lab environment.  No ports are being blocked, all traffic is considered local. Any thoughts, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! Garret

Could you suggest to me a good remote computer controlling program (such as UltraVNC) that is extremely user friendly (on the server's end) where I won't have to worry about port fowarding.

I have seen like gotomypc software, and I am confused on how things can work without getting into the server side router and setting up port forwarding. Also working with firewalls when the server end is different for anyone.

Suggestions?

Answer:Remote screen (VNC) type software

Maybe LogMeIn.. I think it's pretty similar to GoToMyPC... I think, but from the looks of things, it might work for you..

WELIVESECURITY.COM - Aggressive android ransomware in USA: Tricks users with adult videos

ESET researchers have discovered the first known Android lock-screen-type ransomware spreading in the wild that sets the phone?s PIN lock.

Malware writers have stepped up their game, and with the new Android ransom-lockers, detected by ESET as Android/Lockerpin.A, users have no effective way of regaining access to their device without root privileges or without some other form of security management solution installed, apart from a factory reset that would also delete all their data.

Moreover, this ransomware also uses a nasty trick to obtain and preserve Device Administrator privileges so as to prevent uninstallation. This is the first case in which we have observed this aggressive method in Android malware.

Unlocking the device

The only way to remove the PIN lock screen without a factory reset is when device is rooted or has a MDM solution capable of resetting the PIN installed. If the device is rooted then the user can connect to the device by ADB and remove the file where the PIN is stored. For this to work, the device needs to have debugging enabled otherwise it?s not possible (Settings -> Developer options -> USB Debugging). User can use the following set of commands to unlock the device:

Code:
> adb shell
> su
> rm /data/system/password.key
After running the above commands, the PIN or password lock screen will be remov... Read more

I recently ran autoruns and disabled some things from running at startup such as cloud storage, Bluetooth, Plex. I used filters and hid all Microsoft items.

Now on the lockscreen Control+Alt+Delete do not do anything and I am locked out of my computer.

I have not been able to access Safe Mode by pushing any possible F key for months either. The only way I can is through msconfig. If there is a way to access msconfig without loading windows please let me know.

Thanks,

UPDATE!!!

I just discovered a System Image of the computer I am locked out of on one of my external usb backup drives. It was created on 6/11/17 so that is pretty close to the date I got locked out. I have not yet restored a system created with Reflect so any advice on making that smooth as can be would be appreciated.

Mostly, I want to know how to disable Control+Alt+Delete so this never happens again. There is no need for it on my home pc which at this point is basically acting as a media server.

Thanks,

Danny R

Answer:control+alt+delete not working on lock screen

Hi, perhaps your easiest way out of this is to use System Restore- if System Restore works (plenty of issues with it). That is if you have any useful restore points- and you would have had to turn on System Restore as it's off by default in Win 10.

You have disabled MS items, which as you now know is not a good idea, so behaviour can be unpredictable.

Try SHIFT + left click on restart e.g. from Restart from the power button on the login screen, and then navigate to System Restore.

Failing that, the same route lets you get to Safe Mode, where you can access Autoruns to reverse your changes.
Note: we constantly and strongly recommend the routine use of disk imaging (e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage for image sets)
This lets you recover from
- user error
- failed or inaccessible disk
- corruption
- unbootable PC

quickly and without technical help by restoring your PC to a prior working state. It also provides a complete backup.

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. Please help. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. I'm hoping there will be a patch or service pack or some update that will fix this. Any ideas why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?

Answer:Windows 8 Pro, screen goes black and back to lock screen

I had the same problem at first. Then one day the listing of all my apps disappeared. I did a refresh and lost a lot of programs but the files were still there. Then I noticed that the problem with the apps had fixed itself and they worked. My feeling is that the initial install wasn't complete and the refresh completed the install. Recently, after loading my Epson printer's CD, the apps once again disappeared. Had to do a system restore. Now I am having trouble with my screen just being black and not coming on at all...even after a reboot. Win8 has a lot of problems.

I have windows 10 installed. Half the time I get to the lock screen, the mouse pointer will flicker back and forth up top and I cannot control it. If I try logging in with my password, the mouse will continue to be uncontrollable. I then have to restart. Sometimes I have to restart a few times because it does the same thing. Yet other times it works fine. I've tried uninstalling the driver for the mouse and reinstalling it several times but it hasn't solved the problem. Any suggestions?

Answer:HP 6450b, upon start up at lock screen I can't control mouse

Hi Ten1Ten

If this wireless mouse change position of receiver.

Change batteries.

Can you borrow another mouse and try it?

Open device manager, show hidden devices, delete all mouse entries and let windows redetect.

I assume you don't have any game controllers. Have you tried with other USB devices unplugged? Not sure what you might have but just to be sure this is not some sort of conflict.

Are you connected to USB2 or USB3.x port, try USB 2.

About six months ago, my laptop was hacked by my roommates, who hid the hard drive behind a "secret home group" and left me with only a local file and no permissions to check or use any system logs. I couldn't do anything, because I only had "read only" privileges. They had somehow overridden my permissions, but I'm not sure how they did it. They managed to download hidden software and basically stole my identity. (Thank goodness it's not worth stealing) I ended up buying a new computer with Windows 10 (which I absolutely hate), and I'm wondering if it's possible to get back into my old laptop, but I had lost access to the recovery functions (even in Safe Mode) when they started screwing with it. If I remember correctly, I can get through the lock screen by entering the password, but when the light blue signin screen comes up, it's "encrypted" in what looks to be wingdings. Someone suggested they may have just removed a font. In any case, I'm wondering if there is anyway to get in and salvage the computer, even if I have to turn it back to factory reset with Windows 8.1. I have a USB, but I can't find anything that will help me get into the computer.

Answer:unable to customize lock screen, start screen, account picture

If you're using the official release of Windows 8 Enterprise trial, you'll need to activate it. PC Settings doesn't have an entry to Activate, so you'll need to go to the Desktop to do so. The little Action Center icon on the lower right hand side (a little flag) should have a red X. Click on it, and it should say you need to activate. Do so, and you'll get those customizing features unlocked.

I have updated my Lumia 920 to 8.1, from then sometimes my lock screen gets magnified and it would be impossible to unlock as the fullscreen is not viewed. The phone has to be restarted for this always.
Secondary, earlier I used to easily access the videos or movies stored in videos folder, but now if we try playing some videos through VIDEO app it displays a message "signing in....",then "logging in........", but not able to connecct and videos are not being played.
Kindly suggest what to do in the above issues.

Looks like you unlock your phone via double tap to unlock feature and accidentally turn on screen magnifier. To turn of screen magnifier , go to phone settings /ease of access / turn of screen magnifier.
For video , try to update the Xbox video app from windows phone store Video | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States)

Is there an inbuilt Windows 7 program available that will allow a screen share with a remote PC but can be configured so that the remote PC cannot have control of the host PC?

Answer:Screen Share Without Allowing Remote Control ?

I don't believe that you can configure Remote Desktop to only share a your screen.

There is a quite simple way to accomplish this though. You should use one of the programs that people use to broadcast live streams of gaming and/or tutorials. XFire includes the ability to send out a live stream of your desktop.

Here's a tutorial on using XFire to broadcast a live stream:

I am running windows 10 (If it helps, my computer started out with Win 7) with no previews or builds. I can't find any way to allow me to change the sign-in screen to the same as the lock screen. I know some people have posted pictures of what to switch, but that option isn't available for me.
As you could see, there is no "lock=sign in" for using Spotlight option.
How could I fix this?

Answer:Unable to use same lock screen and sign in screen.

Hello abcde, and welcome to Ten Forums.

You would need to turn on the Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen setting in your screenshot to do so.

I recently bought a kworld analog tv tuner card, with chip philips saa7134. The fact is that the software it comes with the cd is very poor. I download other tv tuner programs and found it very interesting but the problem is that I can't get to work the remote with other programs. I try installing Girder and Remotty but both don't recognize the remote control.
I just was thinking is there's a way to modify the software that comes with the card to make it able to launch an application other than hypermedia center.
Any ideas?

It could be a faulty backlight turning off and on instead of staying lit. It may simply be a bad connection, or the lamp itself may need replacing.

I'm unable to set lock screen wallpaper on my PC.... I am the only user and obviously Administrator... plzz help someone...

Answer:Unable to Apply Lock Screen Wallpaper.

Hello Priyatosh, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Are you joined to a domain? If so, you'll need to talk to the domain administrator since it would be a policy they set.

If not, then you might see if using step 2 in OPTION ONE of the tutorial below to enable changing the lock screen background may help. It's the same setting in Windows 10.

Hi all,

I recently look my computer to a technician for a repair, and they ended up reimaging it. I provided them with my password so they could make the necessary changes and they disabled the password on the lock screen.

The problem I've encountered since getting my computer back is I cannot re-enable the lock screen password.

I followed the instructions on Screen Saver Password Protection -Enable or Disable and so far I am not having any luck.

Does anyone know how I could re-enable the lock password?

Hey, so I don't know if this was added in the newest Microsoft Health update but I noticed in the lockscreen settings, under the "show detailed status" the Microsoft Health app shows up, and I was just wondering what information does it show if you set it to that. I'm running a Nokia Lumia 1520 on AT&T with Lumia Denim.

I forgot the screen lock password i need to know how i can unlock my microsoft lumina 640

Answer:How do I unlock my Microsoft Lumia 640 screen lock?

You will have to reset your phone and loose whatever data is not backed up.
Power off. Hold Volume Down and tap Power. When the exclamation screen (!) appears release Volume Down.
Now tap Volume Up / Volume Down / Power / Volume Up...
The spinning gears will show and your phone will reset.
Unless you remember the password it is all you can do.

I recently installed Windows 7 64bit on the second partition of my main HDD. It worked flawlessly until I restarted earlier today. Now whenever I boot into Windows 7 the login screen shows up with my account, but when i attempt to enter my password the keystrokes are not registering.

I have tried using all 8 usb ports in the back of my comp, but the keyboard still does not work. My usb mouse works fine. I can also boot and login to Windows XP, on the other partition with no problems, and the keyboard works fine.

Any insight or help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, I am pretty good with computer but I have ran in to a problem I just can't fix. The operating system will not let me change the lock screen background mode from Windows Spotlight to something else. I have searched for an hour without any luck. My laptop has had a history of breaking down. The first time was hard drive failure and I have lost all my data. The second time I needed to repair was when the computer got so slow it was unusable and eventually got blue screens at boot And I needed to reinstall the operating system. When I try to go to edit the setting it is grayed out and on the top it says Some settings are managed by your organization" I am not apart of any organization and I am the only user on the computer with Administrator privileges. I would be very happy if you could help me with this, thanks in advance!

Answer:Unable to change lock screen background mode.

I have a very similar problem as this with my lockscreen which I've been trying to fix for about a week. I have seen that it seems many have similar problems so it may be a common windows error. For a while my lockscreen was the default red rock formation but only half of it showed as the bottom half was black. Now, when waking from sleep or restarting, My lock screen will be all black when I wake it up like it's trying to load a picture but cant. I can't click through to the sign in screen so I have to wait but it eventually just goes to the signin screen. Attempting to go to personalization>lockscreen grays settings out without going to the lockscreen option and then I just have to close settings. I tried Deleting all files in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\Loca lState\Assets and turned off sync for themes and windows settings and windows spotlight was working fine with new images last night and this morning but now it's back to the same thing. I get a security warning when selecting all files in the above folder and right clicking also.

I am currently unable to set a lock screen background image (Windows 10 Pro 64-bit). When on the Lock Screen customization window, it is pretty bare with no images to choose from. Browsing and choosing any image results in nothing happening and it does not add it (refer to LockScreen image attached). If I try to set it when viewing any image it has the error "Can't set as lock screen. Make sure the file isn't damaged and try again." (refer to PhotoSet image attached). Also note that the Slideshow option is not in the dropdown either.

Some background on this is probably needed, so here's what has happened/been done:
In Windows 8.1 I customized the default lock screen to a custom image using the guide at http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...ndows-8-a.html (the manual method/Option 2). Yesterday I upgraded to Windows 10 and it set the lock screen to a basic color. Then the fun started...

1. Lock Screen customization appeared normal/functional. Tried choosing a different image or custom image. It would appear set, but lock screen would not change (even after reboot).

2. Tried troubleshooting by taking the same actions as in Windows 8.1. Did the same actions for the new folders that Windows 10 uses in the %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\ folder (deleted the images within the lettered folder(s)).

3. Checked every Registry Key I found mention of when searching online (none needing to be changed).

The title says it all, almost...

I'm able to see a 24-hour time format on the user-based Lock Screen for Windows 8.1x64 on my personal laptop, but upon logging out of my account, the lock screen returns to a 12-hour time format for the system default lock screen. I have tried every option that I know of, from RegEdit to Lock Screen Customizer from WinAero.

If I need to upload screenshots, then I may have a problem, as I don't know that there is a way to upload a screenshot from the Default Lock Screen...

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks.

Tuning an HP All-In-One pc with wired keyboard. In Power Settings I can't see any choice of a key to resurrect the display after a timeout. I'd like to set it to spacebar. Or maybe Enter.

Anyone know what the default key should be?

BTW, the HP guide is useless. It's supposed to be loaded on the HDD but isn't. So I grabbed the PDF from their website and it says zip on the subject :-(

You should be able to press any key to turn the screen back on. If you are referring to sleep mode, if pressing a key isn't waking the computer up, open up Device Manager, expand keyboards, right click your keyboard and click Properties, then go to the Power Management tab and check the "Allow this device to wake the computer" box.

I recently downloaded a bunch of cool abstract art and thought it would be neat to have that on my lock screen. So I turned it on, chose the album, locked my screen and went to bed. The next day I come home and touch my computer and am presented with horrible pictures of myself that I thought I had deleted forever, NOT my new abstract art. Upon examination, I realized that choosing my new folder failed to eliminate all the other folders previously chosen. Several of which were the Windows catch-all Pictures folder, so no matter what folder I pick, it's going to pull from ALL the pictures it can find. In the Background choices, it arbitrarily selected a folder of its own choosing from a facebook backup.

(A) So, how do I delete/remove the albums in the list? Right-click on the albums does nothing. I deleted my saved themes and in the process managed to obliterate the image that I wanted as my background - sigh.

(B) How do I choose fewer images to show? Why does Windows say this and give you that advice if there is no way to do it?

Thanks in advance for your answers. Even if it turns out to be something simple that makes me smack my head and say d'oh!

I've recently reinstalled Windows 7 due to this problem, and everything was running smoothly up until today (approximately 4 days after I reinstalled the OS). This morning, I attempted to boot up my computer as usual, and it simply hardlocked as soon as the Welcome screen came up.

This hardlock only recently started happening with my PC when I hooked up a fourth monitor to my GPU, to produce a 3x1 monitor arrangement, plus my Cintiq tablet. (Currently, the Cintiq is in the shop for repairs.) When that configuration was plugged in, the computer started hardlocking. After that, I reinstalled Windows 7 over the weekend, and it was all working fine. Up until now.

There have been no BSOD's at all - even with the hard locks, and I attempted to use the driver verifier to see what was causing it, as this is my greatest suspicion. I rarely find that my computer builds have problems, though I don't have the tools to test my RAM yet (would like some help in this regard).

This is my workstation that I use for my art. I would like to resolve this ASAP before the week is over. Please help! ; 3

Answer:Hard Lock @ Welcome/Login Screen during Boot-Up, unable to resolve

Have you tried the System Repair Disc you can make in Win7's Control Panel, Backup and Restore? It has to be for either 32-bit or 64-bit but your System Specs do show you have the 64-bit version of Windows. It doesn't necessarily have to be made from a specific computer.

Hi, I just realized after recent major update on windows 10 I'm facing some issues.
1. Unable to change account picture

2. Stuck on changing lock screen
I already do some troubleshooting:
1. sfc /scannow
2. DISM
- DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
- DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
- DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
3. manually change the source of image in
- C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures
- C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData
but, none of them is working..

Please help me to find a solution instead of re-install the whole windows (which is exhausting). Thank you.

Answer:Windows 10 - Unable to change account picture and lock screen

Hi, when I had a problem with Spotlight (i.e. different to yours), but similar in that the Preview screen remained greyed out, that was only fixed when I upgraded to the next build. (I had broken Spotlight and got it working again otherwise).

I assume you have no useful system restore points.

Important steps:
a. What is your current Windows build?
Windows key + R, winver

b. Also please create a new user for test purposes and advise if the above works.

If you still have the same problem with a new user, then I would suggest you either do an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all programs and data or if you are using an older build, consider upgrading to 1709. The answer somewhat depends on the answer to the previous question.

Otherwise I expect the problem is specific to your account, which an in-place upgrade repair is unlikely to fix.

Note: a technique which can help you to recover to a previous good working state when things go badly wrong, e.g. unbootable PC, disk failure etc and so reduce the need to do clean installs, which we continually urge people to use routinely is disk imaging e.g. using Macrium Reflect (free).

I assume you haven't started doing that and don't have a disk image created before this started happening.

Hey guys,

So my wife's Dell laptop running Windows 10 (not sure of if 36 or 64 bit) got this lock screen last night. Don't know what she was doing or if one of the kids clicked on some kind of popup, but the pic attached is the screen she gets when she tries to boot.

She didn't run a scan, because neither of us were previously aware of scan logs, and I can't reinstall her Windows as I don't have (and am not to keen on upgrading to) Windows 10.

I looked the malware/virus up and tried to use something called Hitman Pro to get rid of it, but it didn't work.

(I followed all these steps - Remove Genuine Microsoft Software virus (Uninstall Guide))

Anybody have any advice on how to get rid of this?

Thanks in advance...

so, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.

so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE!!!

i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots???

i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.

i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app... Read more

Hi,

how to disable Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages?

I have desktop pc with two keyboards usb and bluetooth. Also TOSHIBA Bluetooth Stack software, but in device manager: keyboard > hid keyboard device both using microsoft drivers. And I dont have any software installed for keyboards. Also bluetooth has separate system tray indications (it is also disabled) so its not that. I made some googling and found other fix it with Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\General KeyIndication set to 0, but I dont have it in registry. Acualy I dont have anywhere in registry KeyIndication. So any ideas how to disable it? Thanks

Answer:Caps lock, num lock, scroll lock screen messages

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

To Whom It May Concern (or anyone willing to help):
About 6-8weeks ago (guesstimate) I started getting a random window popup at various times while browsing online. The semi-odd thing about it is #1-same type of popup on both ie & my Chrome browsers; #2- I hadn't downloaded/installed anything around then; #3 I havenot been able to find their source; #4- Have not found any scan (malwarebytes, Panda, pcpitstop, etc) that seems to locate it, nor does my Winpatrol. The popup windows vary in advertisers, but most frequent is for the game "Big Farm". They are always fullsized page & open in a new window (not just a new tab), without my regular menu/toolbar, etc on top. I did notice a little icon right before the url it shows at very top, clicked it & got a menu-thing showing the permissions of the settings, etc & I could click to view cookie data (in which I was thinking "yippee I got it", lol)... I can "remove" & "block", however each time I can make sure I do all of the however it doesn't seem to help because in a little bit "poof" it comes up just as before! Of course it can get irritating!
Now, as of 2days ago I've suddenly gotten a new & BIGGER annoyance... Quite often, especially when I open my browser & go to do anything (such as switch sites/pages, open history, etc), I get a blackish popup come down about 3/4 over my page, and has a video box (which seldom starts & if it does p... Just installed the major update for windows 10.
I was playing around with the 'Set these tabs aside'. Now there is a large section (I'm assuming it's a tab preview) at the top that I can't close.
The address bar is now a quarter of the way down the screen.

Any way to get Edge back to full screen??
I been messing a round for a half hour trying to fix this.

I have a brand new L440, 8 gig, running Windows 7 Pro (64).  The machine dims the screen to black after 60 seconds, then requires a sign-in to continue.  I have made repeated attempts to lengthen the time for both through Lenovo PowerControl and through MS Power function in Control Panel to no avail.  The screen still dims in 60 seconds even after designating 20 minutes, and after selecting presentation mode (turns off timers?).   I visually confirmed those setting were selected in both Lenovo and Windows Power settings after is dimmed in 60 seconds again.  What am I doing wrong?  (I am not all that experienced with problem shooting - have had a Toshiba for last 8 years).  Thanks!

Answer:L440 - Unable to control timers to dim screen and sleep through power management

Turns out that a screen saver was not selected but the timer was on and set at one minute!  Duh!

I am looking for information on how to remotely control my other pc VIA USB cable, Currently I can send and browse files from one to the other(using the software provided with the cable), but I would like to have a direct CAble connection so I can control it like you do with an RA invitation. I have done this via Serial (LPT1) but the connection is soooo slow. The USB cable (I think I have a pc Linq or similar cable) It is usb plug on either end with a little doohickey in the middle (some type of hub or packet traffic controller)It sends files a little better than 900/KB /sec. I want to be able to send files to the other Pute so I can use it for menial tasks such as video encoding and processing other large files where I don't want to tie my regular system up for hours. And I would like to be able to control the other one without having to to have 2 keyboards, monitor , mouse et cetera. I have looked at software such as VNC and similar but all of them assume you want remote via internet or VPN. Any info on this topic would be greatly appreciated. "get your geek on" Thanks

Answer:Remote Control(remote desktop) via USB cable ?

Your actual setting is regular Ethernet, you happen to use a special USB cable, but that has nothing to to with remote control.

The easiest and cheapest way is to use VNC.

VNC is for both Local Network and over the Internet. It is very easy to set it for local Remote control.

See here, http://www.ezlan.net/vnc.html

Is there a way with the X61 and Vista to engage shift-lock and control-lock in tablet mode? Essentially, I'm trying to get extended pen (mouse) selections but I'm not seeing how to do it. Thanks

Answer:Shift lock, Control lock

did some quick googling. I havent found anything that would help. I do have a few suggestions. Do some searching on tablet pc's and macros. Also, have you looked into gestures? I am not sure if there are gestures in xp tablet, but Vista has gestures. It may allow you to do what you need to do.

Hello Fellow Bleeping Computer Users This is my second post, so bare with me, as I try to explain what I am looking for, and please forgive me if this gets posted in the wrong forum. Let me explain what I am looking for:I am looking for remote control or remote administration of computers. I know there are tons out there, some free, some paid versions. I could use recommendations of any software that you use along with urls to look at them.Currently I am looking at the following:* Log Me In -- http://logmein.com/* Real Vnc -- http://tinyurl.com/f5d3* Radmin -- http://tinyurl.com/mve4w* pcAnyhere -- http://tinyurl.com/ea7de* TightVnc - http://www.tightvnc.com/What I am looking for? Hmm good question. -- Looking for something easy to deploy to the computers that I have already in the field-- Something easy to use behind firewalls-- Allows Multiple AdminsThank you for your help.

Answer:Remote Control/administration Of Remote Pc's

I have, use, and like RealVNC. It is easy to use and can be configured to for a LAN or over the internet. The paid version has encryption and both free and pay versions are simple to set up. What type of environment will it be used in? Between two LANs or from LAN to computer?

Dear all,
recently my computer HP Pavilion G-6 encountered a problem. At first a warning appeared that there is a problem with cooling fan. This was solved.  After there was a black screen after logon without any activity. It was not possible to start process
manager and check what is going on. The only possibility to repair it was to restore to the last Restore Point. But analysis that restore point I discovered this entry "Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (Printer) 06/21/2006 6.1.7601.17514", which
appears in every instance when a new restore point is created. After restoring the computer works for a while. It is possible to turn of the computer and turn on the windows again for several times. But usually the next day the problem appears again. And I
have to restore to the previous point.
I have tried to install a new copy of windows, but I did not delete all the partitions. There were 3 of them: System reserved, C: with Windows; D (Data). After installation this problem appeared again. How? Is it possible that this infection is the lan or
RAM?
I have searched the similar problem on the web, but nobody actually have solved it.
I have turn of the Remote Desktop and did not helped.
Now I am trying to update, but somehow it is not possible. The system is trying to find updates, but nothing happens.
