Unable to delete Storage Space "Access is Denied" 0x00000005

Question: Unable to delete Storage Space "Access is Denied" 0x00000005

Hi there,
Storage pool with two storage spaces created using Windows 8 Release Preview and then ported into Windows 8 RTM. I'm now trying to delete one of the storages spaces and getting this access is denied error message.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Unable to delete Storage Space "Access is Denied" 0x00000005

I solved the problem for me.
Again... No file lock on the storage pool and no application is doing anything with this virtual disk. But it's not possible to remove it from storage spaces. This has nothing to do with ownership of the drive, access rights or an access of a process. I
had a clean windows setup with no programs installed. I'd say that this is a bug of windows!

Anyway here is my solution:
* Opened an explorer with "Computer" open.
* Opened "computer managment" and selected the storage list.
* I selected the storage pool which I wanted to delete but wasn't able to.
* Right click -> format... I think I have chosen NTFS but it's not so important...
* Warning that the drive is in use (what a nonsense) -> yes yes ok
* waited a few seconds until the bar with the free space disappeared at the "Computer" folder for this drive (on the explorer).
* stopped the format process. some error msgs that this couldn't be canceled and then he said he couldn't finish... (wtf ;))
* then back to the storage spaces overview... manage storage spaces... delete storage pool... pool disappeared... finish

hope this helps someone

Hi,

I just tried to install the latest iTunes update, but keep getting an error when it tries to access the C:\Program Files\iPod folder.

When I try to access the iPod folder directly through Windows Explorer, I get "Access is denied".

The same happens when logged in with the system administrator account.

When I right-click the folder and choose Properties > Security, the Current owner field shows "Unable to display current owner." And it won't allow either of the listed administrator accounts to take ownership.

When I choose Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner, the Current owner field also shows "Unable to display current owner." And it won't allow me to Edit it either.

I've tried opening the Command Prompt as the administrator, and deleting the folder, but it won't allow me to do that either.

Any ideas on how to forcefully take ownership and/or delete this folder?

Answer:"Access is denied" - "Unable to display current owner"

Hello!

With the help of jmw3, I managed to remove all of the malware from one of my computers a few weeks ago, but now I'm having a strange issue with another computer in my house....

I was doing some cleaning (removing temp files, etc.), and I noticed there was a folder under "C:\Documents And Settings" called "Tyler". There's no account for this person on the computer or anything like that, but the computer was given to me by a friend so I figured it must have been an old account for one of his brothers or something. When I tried to delete it (as it was a waste of space on here), I got an error saying that it is not accessible, and "Access is denied." When I tried to do anything else to the folder, I got the same error message, so I went on Google to search up ways to forcibly remove files. It seemed like the most popular choice was a program called "Unlocker", so I downloaded that. It allowed me to see the folders within the "Tyler" folder (many of which were things like LimeWire, which just made me want to get rid of it that much more)....but despite telling me that none of the files were currently in use by any program, whenever I tried to delete the folder, nothing happened. When I set the program to remove the folder on start-up, it simply closed and gave no "OK" message, but I restarted anyway and sure enough, the folder was still there. I tried using Unlocker's "move" option instea... Read more

There is a folder in Coc's & Settings. It is under one of my kids screen names. I have Adm.access. They supposable deleted the folder in '03 and it shows it hasn't been accessed since then. When you scroll over the file it says its "Empty" BUT when I scan computer with Norton '07 it says there is Adware.MediaLoad coming from it and it says it has about 900+ items in it? How can this be? I can't delete it through Norton either b/c again access is denied. I can't "drag" it to my common files (or recycle bin) to access it or delete it and I can't open it. How do I get rid of this folder or how do I access it so I can get rid of it? No files are hidden and all my updates etc. etc. are uptodate. confused

Answer:Cannot delete folder..."Access is Denied"

Hi jpinto,

I did a search for a program I once used to delete some pesky files and folders, but could not find it...
What I found instead was some useful information, IF you are comfortable working this way... if not, then please do not try this. Instead wait for someone with more experience than I have (which is limited) to reply to your post.

Before anyone says to do a search, i already did and didn't find anything useful.

I downloaded a freeware thing that i now realize i don't want. I uninsatlled it with 'add/remove programs' but im' unable to delete the actual folder it's in.

I get:
"Cannot delete... access is denied
Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is currently in use."

It's not a read only file and i hane like 90% free space on my hard drive and as far as i know it isn't in use. I use ctrl alt del but there are like 20 things running and can't tell whats what.

I've tried everything i could think of, if anyont knows how to delete this stupid thing i'd be grateful.

Error assigning ownership "Unable to set new owner on.. Access denied" Hi,

I've a question about assigning ownership.
I'm logged in as user "Steph".
As Steph, I made a new folder "Documents_Steph".
Because she made the folder, she's owner of this folder.

Then I tried as Steph to assign ownership to a different user "User01".
But then I got the message "Unable to set new owner on.. Access denied"?
Though I thought that when you're owner of a file or folder, you can assign ownership to everyone?
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!!

Kind regards,

Answer:Error assigning ownership "Unable to set new owner on.. Access denied"

Well, you have to run as administrator in order to do that. Make sure the account you're using is an administrator account. Even if it is, run the explorer "as administrator". It will as you for permission, but not for the password - since you're already an administrator. After that it should work. Let us know if it does not.

Taking ownership of a file is a multi step process unless you use the "take ownership" shortcut which does all the work for you.

Sometimes, when I try to save, either to my pc or to OneDrive, I am told I do not have "permission" or simply "access denied". This has only started happening since I upgraded from 8.1 to 10.

Answer:unable to save - "access denied"

This happened to me too, and I used "Contact Support" and got it fixed. I think what the adviser did, after taking control of my machine, was open File Explorer, selected the Share tab, select all folders and then Advanced Security, adding "everyone". But don't take my word for it. Why it didn't work before, I have no idea.

I have a Windows Server 2003 domain controller and a bunch of Windows 2000 clients.

All of the Win2k clients have "access denied, unable to connect" for the status of their network printers. This holds true for both admin and regular accounts. I've read that I have to make a registry change to the "restrictAnonymous" key.

I made this change yet the policy it corresponds to still has "not defined" as its value under "Default Domain Controller Policy" settings.

Shouldn't the policy be effected when making a registry change? Am I looking at the right policies?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to associate the file extension .txt to a new editor program
with the well known cmdline programs ASSOC and FTYPE.

No, assigning them through WinExplorer menu does not work.
But this is another problem which should not discussed here.

When I type now one of the following alternative commands at the CommandPrompt then Win7 returns me something like:

assoc .txt=txtfile

"Access denied"
The following error occurs: .txt"

or

ftype txtfile=D:\notepad++\notepad++.exe "%%1"

"Access denied"

Why?

The command above work fine under WinXP

I added a slave drive to my Windows XP Pro computer, and it appears to work properly.

However, when I open the "Documents and Settings" folder (on the slave drive E:\, which is Windows XP Home Edition -- not XP Pro), I do not see any of my documents, sub-folders, etc. There should be MANY sub-folders (inside the "My Documents" folder which isn't even visible), with hundreds of documents, jpgs, etc. within it.

When that drive is installed as the Primary drive in my other computer, the User "Larry" (which is me) has all Administrative privileges. On the computer that I'm running now (with the slave drive in it), I also have Administrator privileges. I own both computers.

My User Name "Larry" is password-protected when I login to Windows (when the drive is Primary and installed into my main computer (not this computer with XP Pro).

I've tried clicking on all the users; Administrator, Default User, Larry, Guest, etc. (Note: I get an "Access Denied" error when clicking on the Guest "Documents and Settings" folder).

So, the questions are:

1. Why can't I see any files or subdirectories in the "Documents and Settings" folder on the slave drive?

2. There's supposed to be a folder named "My Documents," but I can't find it. Normally, that path is "C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents".

Anyone tried deleting a registry key in Windows 7?  Got "access denied" or "Error while deleting key"?
The usual response is, "You need to run regedit as an administrator".  but I *AM* logged in as Administrator, and running regedit as administrator, trying to assign administrator full permissions on that registry key in order to delete it!!
Am I mistaken, or isn't Administrator supposed to be able to administer and control all the settings on the computer, in order to set it up for the "Average Joe" user?
So, under the permissions menu of that key, go to advanced, change the owner from System to Administrator, and try again.  It's no longer saying "access denied", but "Cannot delete xxxxxx. Error while deleting key".

The scenario: Basically, the wireless has stopped working on a laptop. The device does not show up in Device Manager, but is in the registry, so the normal procedure is to delete the registry entry for the device in HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet (and /ControlSet001) /Enum/PCI    ,then attach the device or restart the computer, it finds the "new" hardware and reinstalls it. Easy!...

Not with permission restrictions on the administrator account it's not!  So I need to give myself permission, to give myself permission, to do a simple task like delete a single registry key!  Why, Microsoft, why???!!!  Please just make the Administrator accoun... Read more

I am getting an "Access is Denied" error message on a hard drive that I am trying to recover files from that is from my HP Pavilion with Windows XP that fried. My hard drive is still good, and I am trying to rescue the files in the "Documents and Settings/Owner" folder. I have connected the hard drive to my laptop, which also has XP; but when I try to open the "Owner" folder in "My Documents", it tells me that "Access is Denied." And when I hover over the folder, it says "Folder is Empty." But it is not empty. I can also access everything else on the drive fine -- just not this folder. I suspect that this is a networking type of issue, but I am not sure how to resolve it. Can someone please help me?

Thank you,

I have a home network of five computers where one acts as a common computer ("server") where most data from the other four computers is stored (music, pictures, word processing, movies, etc). All five are running XP Pro SP2.

The "server" had two 80GB hard drives, but SMART was indicating that one was failing, so I replaced it with a 200GB drive. Now, every computer in the house can access the 80GB drive and all of its files but none of the computers in the house (except the "server") can access the new hard drive. I have the file sharing set to full access, and I can view the file folders that are on the drive from the networked computers, they are all listed. But when I click on a folder, I get "Access is Denied." When I mouse over a folder, it reads, "Folder is Empty"

But the folder isn't empty though when accessed from the local computer, only when trying to access it over the network.

I have turned off the Windows Firewall, turned it on again, off again, etc, no change. I have Zone Alarm on all the computers, turned it off, still no change.

Any ideas??? I have over 500 CDs on that harddrive, and I want to listen to music from my other comuters! I'm going nuts here.

Answer:"Access Denied", "Folder Empty" messages

There are two ways that might work.

1. From a computer other than the server right-click "My Computer" and choose "Map Network Drive". Where is says "Folder" type "\\<ip address>\C$" if you want to share the C partition of that drive (don't type the quotes).
2.
Go to My Computer and and click on the Tools Menu and then Folder Options.

Click the view tab.
Scroll all the way down until you see "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" and uncheck it.
Click OK.

Now right-click the drive you want to share and choose "Sharing and Security".
Click the security tab.
Click "add" and add "Everyone".
Give "Everyone" the rights you want them to have "Read only" or whatever you want.

The thing with the microSD card is that apart from the apps, you can actually take full control of the data management there.
So, you can either format the thing or manage it from the Files app.

Greetings. I am stuck and: hoping a Major Geekster can rescue me.

I'm using a Dell 3000 with XP Home, SP3. Scans from the Read and Run Me First are attached, plus other scans as below.

There are two users (both administrators) and a guest account that's turned off. One user's account suddenly can't access the C drive. We discovered this when trying to send an unused icon to the recycle bin and got the message, "C:\ cannot be accessed" "access denied". I double checked and it is still an admin acct. I googled the problem and tried the fixes that worked for others:

1. Logged on in Safe Mode, opened windows explorer, right clicked C Drive, clicked Properties, selected Security tab ... theoretically I was supposed to be able to add the user or make some adjustment to the permissions for the user ... however the only option I had was to "take ownership", which I didn't do. Then I thought I might do it. I navigated back to the Security tab, and when I clicked it the pc froze.

2. Downloaded and ran AdAware (scan attached), it didn't like a cookie, it didn't like MG Tools, and it found and removed something else: Win32.TrojanDownloader.FraudLoad/L

Other things when this started:

Volume icon suddenly missing from the autostart icons on the far right of the taskbar.

MS Office began acting weird, but only when accessed from the problem account. Clicking an Office ap triggers an installer. ... Read more

Answer:"C:\ is not accessible" "access is denied" and other surprises :-(

I forgot to run ComboFix, so I am running it now and will attach scan when completed. Attached are: SUS scan from a week or so ago that found something, AdAware scan that says it found something, and Avira error message. (I'm only including these in case they are helpful to you, thanks!)

OK fellow "computer-holics", here's a difficult one for ya. I have a user who e-mailed me the following:

"Ever since I downloaded Crystal Graphics' "PowerPlugs v 1.2" (powerpoint plugin software I purchased which allows for 3D motion graphics on slides), Microsoft Powerpoint won't allow me to access "Slide Color Scheme" or "Apply Design Template" from the format menu...."

I've tried completely removing Office, and re-installing it, but to no avail. I have yet to find an uninstaller for the "PowerPlugs" software, so I haven't tried that yet. (I wan't to save that as a "last-resort" anyway....even when I DO find an uninstaller). Does anyone know anything about the PowerPlugs software that could help out in this situation? Hi,

This is doing my head in and i'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions what my problem is.

I am trying to copy some files from my Home machine to my Laptop via a network share. I have full permissions to the share and can copy MOST files, create new ones, delete files etc.

However i have a directory with photos from my Canon SLR and a Canon IXOS. The files from the IXOS are fine, i can copy/edit/delete via the share ... but the files from the EOS SLR are visible in the directory, but i can do ANYTHING with them.

Any bright ideas ? I've googled and can't find anything similar...

OK, I've had this happen before, such as when I installed AVG AV. I know the trick for the IRPStackSize reg edit.

However, I am encountering more and more of this on my network on CPU's and drives that never did this before. Strangely enough, it may affect only some of the drives on a CPU and not others. I've tried all different settings for the StackSize value and it does no good. None of these CPU's has had AV on them as they don't sit on the web and are on a closed network. I had one CPU that was fine this morning and on the next reboot I could not share a video folder any more, but every other share off it worked fine. Anyone else encountering this?

Thanks.

Answer:"Not enough server storage space...this command" randomly; IRPStackSize not fixing it

i'd have to go dig up the details again but could you indicate:

- What operating system/service packs are installed on the machines
- What is is the CURRENT irpstacksize value you have (knowing, of course, you have to reboot for it take affect)

Initially, for a fix, i'd try resetting all sharing and reboot. The turn sharing back on.

and how many shares do you on defined on each machine?

I first notice my notebook begins to have this issue when I tried to update my Windows. It returned me with error code "80070008", which says that my computer might have run out of memory, however, there are 200GB space available
in my C: drive, and I am only using 27~30% of my RAM out of 8GB.
I tried to perform DISM 'ScanHealth' and it returned me "Error: 8 - Not enough storage is available to process this command".
At first, I tried to ignore this issue as I thought it did not cause me any major trouble. But I was wrong. Several USB devices become unresponsive (yellow exclamation icon at Device Manager).
When I tried to manually install drivers, that's when I found out it was this STORAGE insufficiency again that cause me trouble:

Some of my programs also become incredibly laggy ever since this issue arises, yet I don't know where the problem lies.
At Event Viewer... I noticed several error messages regarding
"Windows was unable to load the registry. This problem is often caused by insufficient memory or insufficient security rights. - DETAIL: Not enough storage is available to process this command".

System - Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit
After Mcafee scan shows: 2 "unresolved issues". They are 1. Generic PUP.x!ct 2. Generic PUP.z!ca. Mcafee says under "potentially unwanted programs" that they were "unable to delete" these malware programs. What are they and are they harmful to my system? How do I remove them if necessary? I am a bit of a novice so thanks for the help. THX, SK

Answer:"Generic PUP.z!ca" & "Generic PUP.x!ct" Mcafee - "unable to delete" after scan

Hi there.

Those are most probably false positives. What files are being detected as such?

When something is labeled "Generic" it means that McAfee doesn't know what it is but that it looks like something else it knows about.

I seriously need help! Obviously I got some kinf of virus ( found both krepper and exploit's ) and my pc is not
working. The problem is that everything is working terribly slow (if at all) and i don't get response when i try to access "my computer" or "add or remove programs". My computer shows message "program is not responding" - add or remove does not show anything at all.
It might be there is still a virus, trojan or malware in the system but all scans now end up with nothing. Can anybody please help???

Thanks in advance!

Hey,

When I try to access a computer on the networks shared documents I get this error message

After spending a good 2 hours trying to make them talk to each other, I got the computers to show up on each others screens, but now when I try to access the other computers shared documents folder I get that error message.

And when the other computer trys to access my shared docs folder it gets "You might not have permission.. The network path was not found".

My computer is running Vista Home Premium
The other computer is running XP SP2

Many thanks for your help and understanding,
- Mike

Answer:"Not enough storage space is available to process this command"

To address the "Not enough storage space is available to process this command" issue, try this.

- Start, Run, REGEDIT
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters
- Edit the IRPStackSize
- Set it to a DWORD value of 15 (or more, valid range 11-50)
- NOTE: If IRPStackSize doesn't exist, create a new DWORD entry for it
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
- Set the PagedPoolSize to 0
- Exit REGEDIT and reboot
Then lets run through the following steps.

Turn off any firewalls for debugging. If the firewall is the problem, you'll have to configure it to allow access to "trusted zone" addresses. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking.

I have been and keep getting these error messages when I try to delete some things (particularly if they have been opened)..

"Cannot Delete filename: Access is denied"

or a similar error message telling me that I can't delete the file because it is in use by another user or process. However if I restart my machine then I can delete the files no worries.

I'd like to put a .cmd file in my c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup directory, but \Documents and Settings has a lock on it and tells me "Access denied" when I click on it. Is this a job for "Take Ownership" or is there another way? The instructions for "Take Ownership" say not to use it on the C drive, but it's not clear if that applies to the whole drive, or individual files/folders on it. Thanks.

Answer:"Access denied:" How to overcome denied access to a folder

That is the incorrect path. No need to mess with permissions, I'd advise leaving them alone.

The path you are looking for is C:\Users\<your user account>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

This has happened with Windows 10 PRO and Windows 7 PRO now.

New PC, Fresh install of windows.  All updates, patches, fixes, etc.. installed.
I transfer the customers info from their OLD pc (windows 7 in one instance... windows vista in another)
After transfer the data IS accessible.  After reboot the data IS accessible...  after a few days "access denied" error. (permissions error)

I can move the same file to another location (folder) other than "documents" and the file will open fine.
I can transfer ALL The files to that location and the files will open fine.
IF I "move" the documents folder to the new location... after a day.... access denied (permissions error)
I am not doing anything that I haven't done over the last 10 years,... VERY FRUSTRATING.  I believe it is a windows update of some sort that is causing the problem but cannot pin it down.
Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated!

Hi, All.

I've got an interesting situation that I'm hoping can be resolved. I built a server using FreeNAS 8.2 to store family pictures, videos, music, and Windows backups. In my home we have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and Windows 7 Professional 64bit. The server is setup with 3 Windows (CIFS) Shares. One share for each of the two computers and then a common share for multimedia. The user accounts on the NAS belong to the common group "family." The Multimedia share has ownership (user:group) of root:family. The permissions on the directories in the Multimedia share are read/write/execute for owner, read/write/execute for group, and read/execute for everyone else (or 0775 in the *nix world). Sorry for the long setup explanation.

Anyway, on my computer (Professional) and my wife's computer (Home Premium), I see the shares in Windows Explorer | Network. I am able to access the shares, and the first time I accessed, I was prompted to enter user credentials, which I did along with checking the box to have the credentials remembered. So, now, when I access the shares in Windows Explorer, I have immediate access. I can read, write, delete, whatever through Windows Explorer.

On my computer, I was able to easily transfer my iTunes library to the Multimedia share through the iTunes application, and iTunes now sees all of my iTunes media from the NAS, rather than local. On my wife's computer, I am having a problem with pictures. I was able to easily move all of the 4.8 GB... Read more

So have you tried setting the permissions using the Security tab rather than the Sharing tab? Often times you need to set the permissions on both of those tabs in order to have complete access. The link below shows you how.

In fact, it is the Advanced Memory Scanner option under HIPS that is causing the error, while the application in question is legit (using Inno Setup and presumably trying to write to the user temp folder, not sure whether just logs or to execute from there)

Furthermore, Smart Security logs have no entries under HIPS even though I ticked "Log all blocked operations" under the HIPS "Advanced setup" -... Read more

Dell laptop, XP Pro

Getting a strange message when trying to print. Never seen this one before...

"There is not enough hard disk space. You need to delete some files" or something like that. There is something like 20 GB of free space on the hard drive, plenty of RAM...512K.

The printer is a Brother MFC (Fax, Copier, etc) It is connected via 1284, not USB.

Can't tell really if the error message is generated by Windows, or Brother software. I thought maybe it meant virtual memory, but that seems OK. The message does specifically say "hard disk". I couldn't find anything on Brother's website, so I'm thinking maybe it's a standard Windows error? I'm just confused because I've never seen that before.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Steve

Answer:Can't print! "There is not enough hard disk space. You need to delete some files"

Its not a message I've run across before, so I tempted to say its a Brother error. Have you noticed whether the print spooler service stops running before or after this error?

Have you tried reinstalling the printer drivers?

I'm running Win2000 and have Norton Systemworks. The computer's never had Internet, and I never, ever buy pirated software, so I don't think it's a virus. C-drive is (I think) 40 G. D-drive is 120 G. These are 2 physical disks.

I noticed awhile back whenever I delete a large video file (sometimes 7 or 8 gig, sometimes larger), the space that should be recovered does not show up in free space. Running Norton's defrag took quite awhile and did not fix the problem.

I tried emptying Recycle Bin, emptying Norton recycle, and no avail. The problem occurs when I delete the file in Windows Explorer, or if I go out into DOS and delete, it's the same. Also if I do the shift-delete (to avoid the Recycle Bin), same. Any of these three approaches yields the same result.

Now, just to show you how smart I am, I went and put some video files on the C-drive. When C-drive filled up (and that sure didn't take long), I copied them to D-drive and deleted two files, totaling nearly 20 gig. Guess what. Same problem. Now, C-drive shows only like 200+ Mb free, although it should have about 20 G.

I tried to run defrag (actually Norton's version), but it says there's not enough free space. Well, duhhh.

H - E - L - P ! How can I recover my free space without reformating? And what should I do next time I delete a large file, so this problem won't resurface.

Any help would be genuinely apreciated.

Jim

Answer:I delete files and "free space" doesn't change

You could check System Restore to see if it is saving copies of the videos or is it possible that some other program is saving backup copies of all your files.

System Restore,by the way is set by default to use 12% of your harddrive for restore points.

On both 64Bit & 32Bit Win7 machines I get an error message, denying access to a file in a folder within another folder. All have been shared, permissions granted & drives mapped to each folder. That is in addition to initially applying the changes to the file folder, subfolders, and files.

The message comes after the Client machine accesses the program, and attempts to generate a pdf.

The 64 is Win7-Win7 connection, while the 32 is connected to an XP.
Initially, I thought it to be a 64 issue. However, now it seems to be a Win7.
I have set to the Program to Run As Administrator & changed the Compatibility to XP Service Pack 3 to no avail.

User reset his Windows 7 logon password as directed and completed with no problems. Had user restart the computer and logon with new password. Again no problems and everything came up. Except now user cannot access any files in their "My Documents" Folder that is re-directed to the Primary File Server 2012. Access to the folder worked fine before the password change. No access afterwards, only "access denied" errors.

As the user is an Administrator member, they tried to access the properties and verify. Blank. Could not take ownership either as it would not allow it and kept saying "access denied" and contact the System Administrator.
I accessed the user's home directory directly and verified that the user is listed as supposed to be, but still cannot access it.

Has anyone encountered this access denied problem specific to user changing their system password?
Recommendations?

Thanks.

Help!

My HDD recently crashed and I'm trying to recover my Outlook.pst file using the Windows Recovery Console - logged in as the Administrator. I can see the files just fine with a "dir" command. However, when I try to "copy" the file I get "access denied". There has to be a way around this? Is there some way to change the attributes such that I can copy it?

Thanks,

Answer:how to override "access denied" when copying files in Windows Recovery

I don't think you can do this with the recovery console. By default, for security reasons, the recovery console will only allow access to the root of all drives plus the Windows folder. There is a registry setting that will change this, but you can't change that with recovery console.

So I'm running XP Pro, finally updating to SP2...

About halfway through I get the "Access is denied" error message...

I followed Microsoft's instructions to locate the registry subkey causing the problem, however (as shown in the attached picture) the problem isn't in the usual vnd.ms.radio (infact, that file isn't mentioned at all in the setupapi file), but in the DependOnService...
Problem is, it doesn't exist under the directories listed...

As shown in the second uploaded picture, it's not in the SSDPSRV directory itself, and the only subdirectories are a pyramid of jibberish (none of which contain anything except a "(Default)" value)...

And so I've hit a wall and my brain hurts...

We are having an issue with Internet Explorer 10 affecting users on a number of our Windows 8 workstations. When a user visits a web site that uses the Local Storage feature of HTML5, the page is not displayed correctly. For example, if you visit this page:
http://jsfiddle.net/xFtQR/
You should see text in the grey boxes in the lower-right hand corner if everything is working. For the affected users, nothing is displayed. In addition, if you open the F12 Developer Tools and reload the page, the following error message is displayed: "SCRIPT5:
Access is denied.". It appears the LocalStorage feature is broken for these users.
From the troubleshooting I've done so far, I've determined that this issue does not affect the Local Administrator account on these computers, but it does affect any domain user and any new local user I create, whether the local user is in the Administrators
group or not. This leads me to believe the issue may be related to the default user profile in the image that was applied to these computers.
Other observations:

Performing a complete reset of Internet Explorer settings (from Tools > Internet Options... > Advanced) does not resolve the issueThese sites do work correctly after turning off Protected Mode for the Internet Zone (from Tools > Internet Options... > Security) These sites also work correctly when InPrivate Browsing is turned on

Answer:"SCRIPT5: Access is denied" error when accessing web sites using LocalStorage

With some excellent detective work by Microsoft Product Support (thanks Siddarth!), the solution has been found.
It turns out that in addition to the security settings on a folder, there is an integrity setting. More information about it is
here.
The integrity setting on the AppData\LocalLow folder in each user's profile is supposed to be set to "Low" (hence the name, presumably). In our case, the integrity level was not set correctly on this folder. To rectify the problem, we will need
to run the following command under each user's profile (with a login script, for example):
icacls %userprofile%\Appdata\LocalLow /t /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)L
As for how this incorrect setting was propagated in the first place, it is because the LocalLow folder in the C:\Users\Default\Appdata folder in our customized OS image had the wrong setting. The C:\Users\Default folder is the template for a new user profile,
so each new user on these computers was affected. I examined the C:\Users\Default\AppData folder on another machine without a customized user template and found the LocalLow folder is not present at all, so in our environment we will be deleting the C:\Users\Default\AppData\LocalLow
from each machine to prevent the issue from affecting future new users.
EDIT: If the command above does not resolve the issue, the registry key that points to the low integrity DOMStore folder may have been changed. Check the
CachePath registry value at HKCU\Software\Microso... Read more

Ok, I have been struggling with this for hours... Let’s see what you guys come up with...

Ok we have a 2003 domain with 3 DC's, one member server FileServer is having some issue with most of its system services. The following services will not start:

and a hand ful of others

Wont start automatically. Attempts to start them manually result in Access Denied messages. I looked into the default comain policy (which applies to these member servers) and i looked that the "system Services" settings and all of the services have "permissions" ad "Not configured". We are not having this issue on any other member server, so it is localized only to this one server. I have tried a GPUPDATE /force and I see in the event viewer:

I have a computer running windows 7 64bit ult. I changed settings on the Network-PC\users\BOB to deny all access to BOB. Immediately after doing this my desktop disappeared and things stopped working. I thought it was a simple fix.

I went into the Admin account and changed it so that user BOB had access to the directory BOB. As far as I can tell, I've given BOB every possible ability to access anything. However, logging into BOB results in the inability to use windows search, unable to open video files in %appdata%, almost every program is broken either saying corruption (which isn't true) or out of memory or access denied.

I attempted to create a new username but certain programs will not open under this username. Is there ANY way to simply UNDO that one step. According to admin and everything BOB should have unrestricted access to everything but everything is broken. Could not even get simple things to run like Handbrake.

All permissions on every drive is set to allow BOB full control. Attempting to set permissions within the account called BOB results in the false error message that the file doesn't exist or BOB doesn't have access. Right click shows full access.

I need to figure out how to undo ONE mistake, you'd think it would be as easy as undoing what you did but apparently windows error messages are generating errors that are themselves: errors. I've tried adjusting "owners" but that is practically a field of quantum physics. Ran SFC /scannow as suggest... Read more

However the "iPhone" shows an exclamation mark in Device Manager - which is the camera drivers, meaning it doesn't show as a drive in My Computer.

Whenever I plug my iPhone into the USB it always comes up with new hardware found & tries to locate the drivers, it does this ok but when installing them it always come back with the message "access is Denied" I have tried reinstalling them from within Device Manager as well but get the same message.

I have also plugged in a USB card reader previously unused on the laptop to check if it was just my iPhone & again it finds it as new hardware & tries to install the drivers but again comes back with "Access is Denied" So it's not related to just my iPhone, it looks like is related to USB devices.

I have tried using a different USB port (There are 3) one of which has the mouse plugged into & the mouse works ok, the other has a bluetooth dongle in it & that works ok as well.

I have turned off User Account Control & this has made no difference.

I have got Avira & Comodo Firewall installed & have also... Read more

Answer:Windows Vista is saying "Access Denied" when trying to install drivers for USB device

Download the driver EXE file & save to desktop. RIGHT-click on desktop EXE icon, select "Run as Administrator"

That might do it, but COMODO either is or will be a problem. It's firewall does not play nice with Vista and causes system services to crash. All 3rd party firewalls have this problem if not completely configured properly for NETBIOS ports in particular. If 1st suggestion does not work - remove comodo.

Following an internet tutorial to disable Group Policies at start-up, I've found out somewhere on my PC ( domain=9PP0802 ) that I only had read permissions. Full Control, was in the hand of the mighty Built-in Elevated "Administrator" Account. So I've tried to change permissions - No success and so . . . I've tried to disable the God Account - No success !

That being said, if there's someone out there, with enough skills to lend me a hand, I would appreciate it and will be always much obliged.

Antonio

Answer:Access denied disabling Built-in Elevated "Administrator" Account

The built-in Administrator account is disabled by default. Your second screenshot shows that it is now enabled. You must have enabled it yourself at some time.

Your third screenshot shows Titan as the only account that isn't one of the built-in ones (Administrator, DefaultUser and Guest). This would be your user account. It is ESSENTIAL that you have at least one user account that is in the administrators group, so the first thing to do is check that Titan is an administrator. In a command prompt, type:
net localgroup administrators

If Titan doesn't appear in the list, log in as Administrator and make Titan an administrator. You could also usefully create another local account and just use it for admin purposes.

Add User Account in Windows 10
Change Account Type in Windows 10
When you have at least one administrator account that you can log in to, then you can disable the built-in Administrator account. You used the right command in the first screenshot, but you tried to run it in a normal command prompt. This command can only be run in a Command Prompt (Admin).

I get error "can't create directory C:\Program Files\GNS3\PROJECTS\test123" : access denied. this is when i click on "new blank project" so GNS3 tries to create new folder "test123" in the path mentioned in 1st line here. how to get it resolved so that GNS3 can create directory when I click on new project and than save it?

could you advise?

Answer:windows 7, GNS3 0.8.2; Error "can't create directory; access denied"

Hi Iray007, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The Windows system folders Program Files, Program Files (x86), Windows and ProgramData are protected and by default the user cannot create / save anything inside them without taking the ownership of these folders or using the built-in administrator rights.

It is not recommend to use these protected system folders for saving program output or personal files. You should create and save your projects on some other location, for instance create a folder in your personal user folder for this purpose (C:\Users\Your_Username\MyProjects).

I'm not sure what's the cause for this, but I believe it has to do with a recent SweetIM malware attack. I tried to fix it. And also did a system restore. Malware is gone, but this thing came up.

The error message comes up upon closing an app (NoteTab Light). It's trying to save some info, but can't. My browser, Opera, now also is unable to recall from the cache when it previously can. Apparently, something has changed that prevents writing to files within that folder. Maybe not just the Roaming folder, but the whole Appdata as well. I can't be sure.

In anyway, I found that I can manually add and edit files in the folder, but apps can't do that anymore. What could be the cause?

Answer:Cannot create file "c:\User\...\Appdata\Roaming...". Access is denied.

"Access is denied" could mean you're not administrator, or you haven't set the privileges of the action to allow yourself to do so..

It seems that other than the 'dir' command, every command I run from my dos prompt, I get an "Access is denied." message.  Example:
C:\Users\aagha>ipconfig
Access is denied.

I've checked my UAC settings and made sure they're set to "Never Notify".

I've also tried to run sfc.exe, but can't:
C:\Users\aagha>sfc.exe
Access is denied.

Finally, I've tried to run cmd.exe as administrator, but no luck.
The one thing I've noticed is that if I go to cmd.exe's Properties and then the Security tab, I see that TrustedInstaller has Full control, but SYSTEM, Administrators and Users have only:

Read & execute andRead
I've tried to change permissions by editing, but when I do so, I get an "Access is denied" message.
I've run out of ideas on what else to try and would appreciate the help.

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows 7 cmd prompt gives "Access is denied." error for every command

SOLVED!

The problem was that I had the Personal firewall from Comodo installed.  By uninstalling this, all normal DOS functionality seems to have returned!

I am having a problem with sharing Outlook calendars in a NON-Exchange environment. I have a small non-profit office of 7 workstations and 4 of the user's need to share our calendars as well as a "group" calendar. We are running a brand spanking new environment featuring Windows 7 professional 64-bit, Office Professional 2007 (i.e. Outlook 2007) and using both IE8 and Firefox browsers. I have tried adapting all previous fixes that I could find for Vista/Outlook 2007 (regarding cookies and also running in protected mode when using IE6/7 [Firefox does not appear to have a similar feature]). I sequence thru the request for logon to my Live account, receive a message: "Access to resource denied. If you have signed into and saved your Windows Live ID with a web site, sign out of that Web site, then try this operation again.". We get the same error message when trying to subscribe to each other's calendars. Makes me wish we could afford an exchange server! Arrghhh!

Answer:Office 2007 "Access Denied" calendar sharing

Hey. In your case, you need 3rd party app ShareO. It does not require any server for outlook data sharing between multiple computers. Cost effective solution for NON-EXCHANGE users.

My problem in short: With Remote Desktop Connection I Get the error: ?the requested session access is denied? with enhanced mode trying to login into my non-admin account on a VM. I can connect fine using non-enhanced mode.

So I am running win 10 pro, and within it a win 10 pro VM via hyper-v. Since I want to hear audio in the VM I am trying to connect with enhanced session mode. The remote desktop connection and audio works fine if I log into the VM with it?s adminaccount. However when trying to login to my non-admin account on the VM I get the error: ?the requested session access is denied?.

I think the answer is already here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com...um=winserverTS

The answer in the link in short says:

A user trying to connect to a RDS host 2008 R2 (workgroup environment) got the error message "requested session access is denied". The user is member of the local remotedesktop user group and
the permission "Allow logon via Remotedesktop servies" is granted.
When granting administrative rights the issue will not appear.

Solution: Remove the /admin parameter in the remote desktop connection. The user was trying to connect to the RDS host console session. This of course will not work with user rights.

When I click the "ok" button on the msconfig window, I am getting the following message.

"An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service access. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes."

Also, I am looking for suggestions (programs to run etc.) to help optimize the performance of my system.

Thanks.

Answer:msconfig "Access Denied error" and system optimization

Are you logged on with Administrator rights? If you're just a 'user' it won't let you access any system components, like the one you're trying to use.

One quick thing you can do to speed up the computer is to turn off the indexing that's on by default in XP. Open 'my computer' and right click on your partitions. Scroll down and select 'properties'. At the bottom, there will be an option to let windows index the drive for fast file searching. un-check this, apply to folders and subfolders, ignore all. Now go get a sandwich. When it's done, you should have a slightly faster computer. Don't forget to run cleanup to get rid of temp files and also to run your defrag app.

Hello, I'm trying to help fix my friends computer. There's only one user name available, thus I'm logged in as the owner. After boot-up, it has a Windows 98 style taskbar, a black background, only the Recycling Bin icon and this message:

Location is not available
C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible
Access Denied

I cannot open the Control Panel. It just flashes the egg timer and then does nothing. The Documents, Music, Computer, etc. folders are also inaccessible, does the same thing as the control panel.

Personalize is also inaccessible.

There are no system restores available. It must've been turned off.

I also ran all the Vista recovery/system checks from the Windows Anytime Upgrade CD it came with and it found nothing/did nothing.

In safe mode, the normal desktop icons re-appear, but still no access to the Control Panel, Personalize and the documents folders.

The computer is a HP Pavilion a1748x running on Vista Home Premium.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE

Thank You for any help.

So on my work network I am trying to access a coworkers shared folder. The folder is shared and permissions are set for everyone to have access. It is main folder with sub folders with files.

I can access the folder, I can access most microsoft word documents and some excel and pdf documents. When trying to access the files I need (mainly Excel and PDF files but also a couple Word) I get an error message in each program (Excel, Word, Adobe) "Access Denied. Contact your administrator"

My system is running Windows 7 and her system is running XP. Both systems are using Microsoft Security Essentials. I am using Office 2007 and she is using Office 2010.

I am stumped. Double checked permissions, file sharing, simple file sharing, re-shared the folder, shared the sub folders...

What am I missing?

Answer:FIle sharing. "Access Denied. Contact your administrator"

checked both share and NTFS permissions on the files where you received access denied?

Also depending on how the files were put there would have an affect.
If a file is cut from user's desktop then paste into network share, the file will keep the perms it had when on the user's desktop.

Yet, if the user copies from desktop and pastes into network share, the file will inherit the permissions from the share.

Hi, hopefully someone has overcome this issue already. I received the Windows 10 upgrade and things worked fine - including copying files to my NAS. However I decided to do a clean install on a new SSD drive and when logged into that Windows 10 I cannot copy files to my NAS. Now I know it's not the NAS - I can log back into the old upgraded Win10 instance and everything works (so physically the same PC accessing the same NAS with the same credentials). However I continuously get the "Destination Folder Access Denied" & "You need permission to perform this action" error when attempting to copy in the fresh/clean install of W10.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I started a thread here: "Unknown device" -can't find Nvidia

Apparently I'm not the only one with this issue, but we can't seem to figure out how to fix it.

The long and short is that my NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS is no longer recognized. I have tried installing the drivers from NVIDIA and from HP with no luck. When I reinstall, I get a message that an error was encountered during install and access is denied.
Looking for help. The laptop is under Best Buy warranty, so perhaps I should take it in as a warranty issue?

I have a newly purchased HP Deskjet 3050A e-All-in-One Printer series - J611 which should be working with Windows 7, but when I try to install the device drivers I get a "Access is denied" error.

How can this be bypassed or fixed?

Answer:Cannot install HP printer drivers - "Access is denied" in Windows 7

Exactly how are you installing the driver?

Make sure the printer is switched off and is not connected by a USB cable.

When you attempt to install the driver, right-click it first and choose Run as Administrator. During the install, you'll be prompted when to switch the printer on and connect it.

You also need to make sure you are installing the 32-bit version of the driver as you have Windows 7 32-bit.

So I bit the bullet and "upgraded" my laptop from Windows 7 to 10. I expected to find a few things that didn't work anymore, but not so soon as this. I keep it in sync with my desktop PC (running XP) by net-sharing its hard drive, with permission for full control granted to its "administrators" group. I mount it on my desktop PC, where I have the same username and password for my primary administrator account. When it ran Windows 7 this all worked well, but now whenever I try to list or open its files I get "Access is denied." Any ideas?

Interestingly, I still can access the hard drive on my desktop PC while sitting at my laptop. It is only the vice-versa that fails, accessing the hard drive on my laptop PC while sitting at my desktop.

On my laptop, Windows Firewall is "off" for private networks, and it considers my home network to be "private."

Anyone out there know how to install Win SP2 avoiding the "Access Denied" error? So far I have tried to install it about 10 times and have tried the following troubleshooting techniques:

1) Tried to install under new administrator account
2) Tried to install as administrator under safe mode
3) Changed the logging to verbose to determine which portions of the registry that were not allowing access and then modifying the registry to allow full access to the installing user

Everytime I attempt to install, it runs for about 50 minutes and then returns the "Access Denied" error and then uninstalls the SP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Please Help.

I un-checked boxes (haphazardly) in the Security Field under Printers. I think I must have changed the User Settings for ADMINISTRATOR. Now, The computer won't allow me to add a printer under "Devices and Printers". And, I am signed on as the ADMINISTRATOR.

When I hit the "Add Printer" link, a box pops up with an "X" in a red circle and states the following, "WINDOWS CAN'T OPEN ADD PRINTER. ACCESS IS DENIED".

Please tell me how I can reverse this mistake I've made. Thank you.

I am trying to use the fsutil setshortname to set "Program Files" to PROGRA~1, but the system is giving me an "Error: Access is denied" response. The following is what I have typed:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>cd ..
C:\Windows>cd ..
C:\>fsutil.exe 8dot3name set 0

C:\>fsutil file setshortname "C:\Program Files" PROGRA~1
Error: Access is denied.

C:\>fsutil file setshortname "Program Files" PROGRA~1
Error: Access is denied.

As you can tell, I first tried to do a reference to the path of Program Files, and failed. Then, I tried without the path file and got the same result.

What could be the reason that the system is denying the access? Thanks.

(P.S. This Command Prompt is ran as Administrator, so that shouldn't be the issue)

From somewhere, somehow, a folder named "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" has been created in my W7x86pro root dir. Trying to look inside, I had to "permanently get access". But then inside it, there are a whole lot of folders named things like 1025, 1028, 1029, etc, ending with 3076, and 3082.

What's in those folders, I have no idea, since every time I try to open one, I first get the "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" dialog, and then when I click Continue, I get "You have been denied permission to access this folder".

Also inside the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, there are files, like "Setup.exe" and "NDP40-KB2473228.msp" and "SetupEngine.dll" and some *.bmp and some other files. I guess that NDP40-KB2473228.msp gives away that this folder has something to do with some .NET framework update, but AFAIK, there's no .NET-anything installed on this computer.

I want to remove the "24cd9e4542d29590bce925ec30" folder, but there seems to be no way I can get permission to do that. trying to get ownership or set access rights, all I get is "Access denied" or similar.

Does anyone know:
1. What those folders and files are doing there?
2. How do I remove them?

Answer:Denied permission when trying to get access to folder named "1055"

Hey guys,

Basically I had a Toshiba 2450 Laptop and I had some issues with the motherboard, it wasn't sending the correct voltage to the hard drive. I bought a new HP Laptop, and found out that I could turn the old hard drive into an external one via a USB Enclosure and finally get all my data, old documents etc off of it.

Today I bought the enclosure and set it all up, and I was able to access the hard drive fine. Things such as program files were all readable and I could copy them. Then, when I went to copy my documents it said the folder "Jay" inside the documents and settings folder, which was my profile name on my old laptop was "Access denied". I obviously had a password on my profile on my old laptop and think this is whats causing the problems, since this folder is the only one specific to my profile. Does anyone know a way of accessing the folder???? I really need my documents! Any help is appreciated thanks in advance!!!!

I still can't update windows xp home to sp2. I've gotten good suggestions here but so far they haven't solved my problem. I've done what the MS "Access is denied" KB873148 message said to do. I followed ALL its instructions to the letter. I verified that the update was failing when it tried to delete registry key HKCR\vnd.ms.radio. My setupapi.log file showed that it tried and failed to do that twice in succession before it launched into its uninstall routine.

Following KB873148, I then edited the registry (I backed it up to ...my documents... first). I changed the permissions for the vnd.ms.radio registry key that the update routine was trying to delete. I am quite certain that when I clicked File/Exit and saved the modified registry all the permissions for administrators had the "allow" check box selected for "read" and "full control".

That did NOT solve the problem. After I did all that, and reran the *.exe full file version of sp2 which I had previously downloaded, I still got the same "access is denied" error message and I still had the same message in the setupapi.log file afterward.

I'm getting WAY WAY over my head here to suggest this but it's all I can think of:

If the update routine is failing when it tries to delete that single registry key, for whatever reason, is there a way I could edit the registry manually and just delete it that way and see if that works? Assuming I've... Read more

I recently reformatted my computer, but before doing so moved all my documents to my "D" partition so I could easily bring them back after the reformat.

I am using Windows XP Professional Sp3.

One of the files I saved was encrypted in windows xp (the file's title has a green font color indicates it is encrypted). When I try to open it it just says 'access denied'. I tried opening it on Administrator account and that also didn't work.
I am using the same windows account name and my computer name is identical to the way it was before the reformat. When I right click the file, go to properties, advanced, details.. it shows:

"Users who can transparently access this file:
[email protected] (some certificate thumbprint in hex here)

That user name "me" and the computer name "my-desktop" are identical to the user name and computer name I have on the computer now.
I really need this file as it contains important personal information.

Answer:"access denied" to an encrypted text file after a reformat

As I understand NTFS file encryption, when one elects to encrypt a file or folder, an encryption certificate is generated.

Unless you have saved that encryption certificate to a floppy disk, you won't be able to recover the encrypted file or folder because the associated encryption certificate went south with the reformat.

For more information, go to Start > Help and Support and enter "encryption" in the search box.

Hello,

Not sure if this an XP or Win 2000 question.

My laptop died a couple years ago and I finally got around to having a friend put it in an external USB hard drive enclosure. The laptop ran Windows 2000 and my desktop is running XP SP2.

I cannot open one of the folders. I get an "Access is denied" dialog. I assume this has something to do with my original 2000 log in and the permissions that were set?

Any methods to coax with HD to let me have access?

If I can answer any further question let me know

Thanks,
Michael

My daughter's laptop was hit by a virus (I think) which seems to have overwritten the boot sector and / or the partition table. I can't even re-install XP pro because the XP cd doesn't detect a hard drive. If I connect this "faulty" drive to another notebook all the data seems intact BUT:

Scanning it with Bitdefender does not detect any malware and all the folders are accessible except the C:\documents and settings\"her personal folder".

This folder returns "access denied" whatever password I use.

Can anyone give me an idea as to how to access this folder before I reformat and reinstall XP?

thanks and regards

Answer:External USB drive folder "access denied" after virus??

To take ownership of a folder, follow these steps:Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties
Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
In the Name list, click Administrator if you are logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group. If you want to take ownership of the contents of that folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message:
You do not have permission to read the contents of directory <folder name>. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?

All permissions will be replaced if you press Yes

Note <folder name> is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of.
Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.

Now see if the folder is accessible.

Unable to delete folder, unable to change permissions, and unable to get One Drive to read to Documents folder correctly. I have attempted five times and each time it fails. So I try to delete the One Drive folder so I can reboot and try again, and the system will not let me. I am an administrator with my Microsoft Account, but it says I need administrator permission from COMPUTER\<truncated name>.

I can copy files from Drive E on one machine to drive E on another when using Windows Explorer; but, XCopy fails on every file.

I'm not sure this thread doesn't belong in the Vista Forum because it happens only when the Vista machine is either the source or the destination. When copying from a Windows 2000 to another Windows 2000 or XP, it works fine. Also, this same machine I'm having trouble with now was running this same batch file just fine when it had Windows 2000 on it just a few weeks ago; but, it hasn't run since I switched to Vista.

And, yes, the drives are shared.

Answer:Solved: XCopy gives "Access Denied" on every file across network

Sounds like a permissions error. Can you do a plain COPY of a file to the Vista machine?

Hey folks,

Got a problem here that I believe I have experienced in Vista before but I forgot how I eventually solved the problem but I did solve it before.

It's been so long since it's happened though that I would probably have trouble digging up the old thread that I posted about it.

Anyway, let me explain.

I cannot right-click on some pictures on the internet and then save them as I am normally able to do.

For example, I go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sephiroth_(Final_Fantasy)

When I get to this page, I will attempt to right-click on the picture of the Sephiroth character at the top right of the page and save the image to one of my folders.

Normally when I do this it works perfectly, no problems whatsoever. However, as it is right now, when I right-click the picture and try to save it to a folder a window pops up that says "Access Denied".

And to show you that the problem is not solely isolated to this single wikipedia page, I have tried other pages, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter_4

I tried to right-click and save the picture in the top right of this page as well, once again. And once again, same problem. "Access Denied" window pops up and I can't save the pics to my folder.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for this problem or has experienced this same problem before I would love your input and your time and help.

By the way, I am using Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition.

Thanks in advance folks!... Read more

Answer:Solved: Vista: "Access Denied" msg when trying to save pics

There is nothing special about those images.

Where are you trying to save them to?

The only time I might get such a message is if I am trying to save something to a networked drive or directory hat has not been properly configured for sharing.

This of course will not work with user rights.
mstsc /admin
mstsc /console
mstsc

My admin skills are still developing and I don't really know what I am supposed to do here. Do I run this on this mstsc command on the host? Do I need to make sure some users are in the list bef... Read more

Answer:Help with mstsc to prevent "requested session access is denied" w/ RDC

It turns out my Pro version of windows was not whole because I upgraded it from Home to Pro and it was missing some features. Some Remote Desktop Policies were missing, which is why I was having issues. I hope to repair my install or may have to do a clean install.
