Win Update Error/ Attempted MS fix not working More ERRORS!

Question: Win Update Error/ Attempted MS fix not working More ERRORS!

Greetings, I am having issues with Windows Update! First of all when I click the Icon "Windows Update" It actually takes a few moments to get there, which is very unusual! When it does finally come up it shows an "X" on a red shield and says "Check for Updates for your computer - Always install the latest updates to enhance your computer's security and performance" So I click "Check for Updates" and immediately receive an error! "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." Nope, that doesn't work nor did completely shutting it down. So I opened the Administrative Tools and then Services. Scrolled down until I located Windows Update, and clicked on Start the service. I receive the following error: Windows count not start the Windows Update service on Local Computer. Error 0x8007277a: The requested service provider could not be loaded or initialized. So I went to Bing typed in the error code and located a Microsoft webpage about the error and started following instructions and ran First the Norton removal tool, then removed AVG then downloaded and ran Windows Update Diagnostic. It did not fix all the issues. Weird that it told me to run in default & aggressive modes, but there was no different modes.

Website: Error Page - Microsoft Community

The attachment Troubleshooting WU error.png is what I get when I ran the diagnostic. The Troubleshooting WU error details.png is well the details of that error.

So after that I went back to the MS website to run the Manual repair. Website: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

I backed up the registry keys like it said. Running the commands to stop services that it told me to the first three services stated that they were not started. When I got to the last one the net stop cryptsvc I get the error: System Error 5 has occurred. Access is denied. So I continued on. And typed the commands for qmgr*.dat and it said it could not find it. So I continued on with the dll's and the first two were successful. Then more errors occurred. Regretfully I did not think to screenshot the mshtml.dll error, but got the next two for y'all. See attachments: shdocvw_dll error.png and browseui_dll Error.png for more info.

So I come here to the forums locate WU threads and read that y'all have requirements before posting. I downloaded and attempted to run the Stand alone Installer and got an error! See WinUpdate Standalone Installer Error.png for more info! I am seriously stuck. I know there was more stuff y'all needed but I am flustered and exasperated at the moment so please forgive me if I haven't given everything you need! Please be patient with me and tell me what all else is needed. I am about had it and just factory restore my system again. About tired of that, would be my 3rd time if I do. That is why I am here.

Preferred Solution: Win Update Error/ Attempted MS fix not working More ERRORS!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Last night when I shut down my PC I came back to it an hour later to find the fans still running and the lights still on so I pressed the reset button to try shutting it down again, it got a BSOD as soon as it started up again but then it rebooted fine after than and I shut it down at the log in screen
Then this morning when I turned it on I logged it fine and went to make a coffee while it loaded but came back to find that it had frozen and was not working so I reset it
This time it loaded fine and everything was working but it gave me a warning that there was an error with the HDD and needs to restart to fix it so I restarted it, waited for it to fix the problem and then it got to the log in screen but my keyboard and mouse no longer work.
I tried them in different ports and tried a different keyboard but they did not work either (interestingly I tried a USB number pad that did work but obviously only typing numbers doesn't help me log in)
I googled the issue with my windows tablet and found people with similar problems managed to fix it by forcing the PC to go into the recovery menu and then doing a system restore so I tried that
I got into the recovery menu (the keyboard and mouse worked fine in the recovery menu so the USB ports and devices clearly work) and attempted to do a system restore but I only had 2 restore points available and both of them did not complete successfully and gave me this error code (0x800700b7)

Any ideas how to fix this? I'm guessing the issue... Read more

Answer:USB Keyboard and Mouse not working after PC attempted to fix HDD error

Hi...
I'd boot from a repair CD. If you don't have one, go to another Windows 7 PC, click Start -> Control Panel -> Backup and Restore -> Create a system repair disc. Use a 32 or 64 bit system to match the problem PC. Insert a blank CD-R and it'll create it. Then boot from the repair CD on the problem computer.

I started getting this error and BSOD after the last major update (Anniversary update?). My PC starts fine and is OK for hours, then suddenly falls over. It never did this before the update.

I have updated all my drivers and also run a scan and repair on the registry using the Registry utility in Advanced System Care, but it's still happening.

What else can I do without just rolling back to a restore point (which would presumably just try to update itself again...)

Thanks,

Please read BSOD Posting Instructions & How to upload files

I would highly recommend to remove IObit software, it is known for causing many issues and isn't trustworthy.

My girlfriend suggested I try WoW (World of Warcraft) and so I did. I enjoyed it and wanted to install it on my computer. After all was said and done, I was having trouble launching it (would crash after I entered my password), and through looking at various topics with similar problems, a fix was to take ownership of that particular folder and that by using: Add "Take Ownership" to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Win 7 or Vista - How-To Geek it would be easily taken care of.

So I attempted to do so, and it supposedly ran just fine (didn't solve the crashing but that's a minor issue at this point) but then I noticed every time I attempted to run an exe file I would receive the error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. Answer:Attempted to fix permissions, other errors occur

Hi, you should run a system restore to before you did this, it is (short of format reinstall) the only way out. I am not familiar with the "fix" you linked to , although I do use SubInACL, did not know it was available on Home. Certainly MS do not offer any assistance on resetting security settings on Vista Basic or Premium. There is a command for ultimate Business and enterprise although it does not reset ALL to defaults and creates problems similar to what you are experiencing.

Code:
secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose
Note:- DO NOT USE THIS.

Now I haven't the time to have a good look at the link with the "fix" you applied and I would like to run it on a test machine before I make any additional comment.

Now you most likely have user account (profile problems) will also happen after running the MS command BTW you need to run everything as administrator (not mentioned in the fix) also it's cd C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools without quotes... and NO warning about a back up... little errors like this worry me.

To get a CMD as admin:-
Go to start all programs accessories and right click on command prompt select "run as administrator"

Now if you cannot restore try this to fix your problem:-

Open command prompt as admin at the prompt type:-

Code:
net localgroup Administrators /add networkservice
press enter then type:
net localgroup Administrators /add localser... Read more

Hi everyone, I am getting the following BSOD errors:

The Crash Files will be posted - bellow

--These 2 are most frequent (90% of the time)--
MEMORY MANAGEMENT (13 Times)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (8 Times)

--These 4 are less frequent (10% of the time)--
KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (1 Time)
FAULTY_HARDWARE_CORRUPTED_PAGE (1 Time)
CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTED (1 Time)

I mostly receive these errors after a round of SMITE (Similar to League of Legends - 40 minute session game)
I will then receive a BSOD with the frequent above errors.
this crash will RARELY occur during an actual game, UNLESS I continue to play a second game - then it crashes mid game.

I've played more intensive games, oddly with NO CRASHES! No indications of conflicts between windows 10 and Smite on game forums.

I have 4x4gb of RAM, I've individually ran MEMTEST64 8-10 passes for each RAM and I also individually crashed with each stick regardless of whatever one.

I've done GPU stress tests, CPU stress tests and RAM stress test with very good cooling, in fact my GPU has reached 60c at the very peak of a stress test.

I've updated my Windows 10 system and all drivers that I know of (If you know a better software, I'd gladly try it)

Thanks in advance,

After installing a used fx 4600 and associated drivers BSOD with various descriptions manifest about 30 minutes after startup. Saw ASUS screens never before seen, some quick look program.

Removed the Quadro and re-installed the geo-force card. Same results. Purged all the NVIDIA drivers which was difficult. with negative effect.

System now seems to run for an hour or two before the BSOD depending on Solidworks activity.

This had been an extremely stable system if a little slow for three years running that i've used it for design of large assemblies.

Please help if you can?

Best regards and thanks,

Here is the file as mentioned in the posting instructions

Hello Joealfadog, welcome to Seven Forums. I will try to help you on this. You have 2 Dump files, both dated today. Unfortunately, they gave me little information but did leave a few hints.

based on that there are a few thngs I would like you to do, the first being:
Please fill out your System Specs

   Information
Your System Specs will help us to help you, and doing it in this manner will make them available to all helpers in every post and keep us from hunting for them. We ask that you fill them out in as much detail as possible including Desktop or Laptop, Model number if it is an OEM computer and all components with the Manufacturer and Model number if possible, including the PSU and CPU cooling you use.

If you will go to your last post and click the 'System Specs' in the bottom left of the post, you will find a link to update your system specs. Please fill those out in as much detail as possible, making sure to click save at the bottom of the page. If you would like to know what we would like, you can click 'My System Specs' at the bottom left of this post to see mine. If you do not know what your components are, this will help you accomplish this task. System Info - See Your System Specs

Next, please run Disk Check on all drives. next, please find the manufacturer's diagnostic program for you hard drives and run the long and short tests on each mechanical drive. If I had your system specs, I may be able to help find the correct program.

Hey all.

I just changed my hard drive as the prior one had failed. I did have a copy saved and transferred it over to my new drive. Though i am having issues not being able to do any updates or install certain programs.

The machine - Sony vaio---VPCEH27FD
Everything in device manager is working fine

I am unable to down load/update any .NET as it keeps asking to " Turn windows features on or off. I checked and unchecked .NET as per other discussions
When I try to do any service pack update, these are the errors I get

I read the thread on SP! install errors though none of those apply or will not work

Any ideas would be helpful
Thanks

Answer:Update manager not working/ SP1 errors

So the computer does not have SP1?
If so, that's the reason for all the errors. MS stopped supporting Win 7 with no SP on April 9, 2013.
Download and install SP1 before you do anything else.

Ever since we bought the machine we've had problems with the display adapter when the machine goes to sleep (comes back with poor resolution). I checked this forum and found posts recommending trying a bios update. I tried this (using the correct update) and the machine just hung when it was run saying preparing to update bios.

After about an hour nothing was happening and the machine was just hung - all we could do was to removed the battery. Now, it is completely dead and there isn't even a power light. We've tried removing the battery, double checked the mains connection and it is dead. Help appreciated - this is a big problem for us.

Hi all,This is my first post: My WIndows XP home edition would not update and then notification that firewall was shut off as well as virus program was missing.I did the following and matters went downhill thereafter.I attemped to boot in safe mode and reset in command prompt sfscannow. That did nothing, then I reassigned the firewall and it turned on but when I rebooted the next day back to square one again. Now my computer will not run in any mode but safemode. I did something the day prior to the issue appearing, I searched regidit registry keys and found a zillion porn sites listed in local machine keys, I deleted these, that is when the problems started. I did some searching and read that spy bot , which I had, leaves these keys as virus protection, had no clue so might have done this to myself..I have run hijack this not sure how to post that log here, it seems clean to me but what do I know...I am just a chef, I saute food not hard drives..or maybe I deep fried it...not laughing...I ran avast no spyware detected, I ran malware bytes, not spyware detected...am at a loss what to do..Also, here is where you can really stop laughing, I have an Acer d250...yes I know a very inferior computer but it is all I have for a few months...it has no CD drive...is a netbook the size of a thimble. so after the new year plan to buy a new computer but at present need to repair this one to tied me over for a few months...I also ran stinger and got no bites on spyware so any ideas???Short... Alright so I got a new SATA optical drive hooked her up and the motherboard didn't notice it.

So naturally I attempt to update the BIOS on my Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe MoBo from v. 1102 to 1502.

I went into EZ-Flash backed up my current BIOS and installed the new one. Everything seemed fine until Windows tries to boot -immediate restart- then the black screen with boot options(safe mode, normal, last working settings etc...).

I reboot and attempt to change the BIOS back to v. 1102 when it says that it is not "suitable" for the motherboard!

I try again and it just freezes on me before it even gives me the not suitable message.

I waited like 20 minutes and gave it a hard shut down with the power button.

Reboot... and now I just have the black screen with the little blinking underscore in the top-left corner.
HELP!

OK, here goes. I recieved an e-mail from Zone labs that an update for my firewall was available. I went to the site to download the update as I have before, yet this time it not only did not update it also seemed to remove my existing version of zone alarm. I am using the free version. I tried to reinstall from zone labs site to no avail, it encountered problems with some existing files. I removed the program from the control panal add remove site, and became concerned that now I had no firewall. So I turned on windows firewall. Now I can't access the internet at all. I turned off windows firewall and still am not able to access the internet.(sorry, using XP with a cable modem) I tried the turn off in sequence and turn back on in sequence tower, modem, router to no avail. My laptop in the livingroom connecting off of the wireless router connects fine, hence this post. can anybody help? I read about the ms conflict with zone labs but am unable to download anything to my desktop because I can't connect. Someone please help this poor old greyheaded fool!

I originally had a problem similar to the one posted in this thread so I went and tried the fix from that same page. The fix did stop the update failing after the reboot but it apparently broke the rest as it did not clear the data from the system. I am now sitting at around 500 MB of space on the OS drive. I am looking to see if there is any other option other than either a repair reinstall or just a complete format reinstall.

Hello.  my laptop got very slow recently and Internet Explore was acting up and super slow so I decided to remove some HP/Media software I don't use.  After that I found out that Windows 10 was again available for free part of their 10th year Anniversary or something like that. It downloaded, verified the downloaded and asked to restart to install. It was installing fine up until 32% and then came the HP Logo which I didn't think much of but after more than an hour it was still on the HP and no change. I left it like that over night and still no change.  I believe the laptop original OS is 8/8.1 and I can't recall if it was a 32 or a 64 bit.   Please help.

I'm not sure where to begin... I guess I should start with the fact that the computer in question is not mine, it is my friends, who is a complete illiterate when it comes to operating anything on the comp (let alone technical questions), so my knowledge of the machine (and what has been done with it) is limited.

The problem we are having is one that seems to be common amongst vista users, looping restart stuck on installing update 3 of 3. I came across this site(many thanks to all of you for your assistance to all of us less knowledgable), and subsequently the microsoft fix here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358.

I went with method #2, as I don't have the original OS disc anywhere in sight(and he doesn't know if it came with the machine or not). For some reason, the machine wouldn't start in any form of safe mode, but I was able to revert to a restore point via the "repair your computer" option on the "advanced boot options" page. I chose the most recent restore point, which was a basic scheduled restore point(8-16), and let it do its thing. Restart afterward, and then it wouldn't even begin to boot at all, going directly to the Start-up repair program.

It recomended reverting to a restore point, so I did it again, going back to the furthest point, which was created when SP2 was installed(8-9). Still no luck starting up, right back to the startup repair program. It asked to send a report, which I did, so I browsed throu... Read more

My friends PC had a few BSODs for some time now. She never bothered to try and resolve the issue, relying on her laptop instead. I though it was her security software (Norton) so i removed that and that BSOD went away. A few weeks later (first week in August, i think) it returned, but the PC wouldn't boot into normal mode without BSOD, only safe mode. I tried to update the bios in safe mode and when it got to the end of the update it just sat there without fully completing. I tried to close the update and suddenly...BSOD. Afterwards, I got a BSOD everytime i tried to boot into normal mode, and a BSOD everytime i tried to access the internet (using Chrome everytime) in Safe Mode. however, if i didn't try to get online and used the PC, it was just fine. I attempted a system restor, which was successful and as of today, my PC will boot into normal mode for about 5 minutes then BSOD; it will boot into Safe Mode and BSOD when I try to use Chrome but not when I use IE. That's all the info i can remember.

Just by the behavior of my PC only BSOD-ing in safe mode when i try to access chrome but not when i use IE, i think it's Chrome, but i wanted some expert help, just to be sure.

Hi, I am having trouble getting my computer back to running correctly after I had encountered a pretty bad virus of sorts. I am constantly getting random pop-ups in IE and my entire system is super slow. I have ran Malwarebytes and Superantispyware and seem tohave gotten rid of most of the virus. Windows update will not run, I get a error message saying the service is not running, the service is not present  in services.msc.  Im still in need of prefessional help. Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer. 1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line. *************************************************************************Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.Click on Search.A l... G'day people!

Like many others here, I've experienced the situation where Windows Update point-blank refuses to update, and returns the generic 0x8007370B error code.

Microsoft's help relating to this code is woeful to say the least; thankfully a bit of "Google-fu" has led me here.

I've run (and re-run) the SURT and the various Windows Update FixIt and Hotfix tools from Microsoft, with no success.
I've even tried their method to reset the the Windows Update sub-system to no avail.

From following the diagnostic instructions posted in other threads, it has become apparent that I too have been the victim of bit-flip errors, as evidenced in the CheckSUR.log file included below.

Using a Dell Laptop running Windows 10. Never had any BSOD before ever.

A few hours ago I clicked on the Dell's automatic updater which was to update the Dell BIOS version. Everything installed fine and the Dell BIOS checker checked the updated Bios installation saying all was fine. System then restarted and I logged into Windows. About 5 mins later I get a BSOD with error message "attempted execute of noexecute memory". Computer automatically restarts. Then every time after this I login to Windows and it repeats the BSOD after about 5 mins.

I used the DM Log Collector Tool. Please see attached. After this I did a System Restore to 3 days ago thinking that it should fix the problem. It didn't.

Seems that Dell BIOS updater has stuffed up my system. Does anyone know how I might be able to fix this please?

Today I tried to update my Windows 10 insider preview (fast) system to the latest build. During the first attempt I received a BSOD and rollback. After multiple reboots and cleanups (such as removing kaspersky) I was able to do the update again.
The update completed, since I once had the "hi" screens after login, however after a reboot I am not constantly getting the spinning white circle. (left for an hour), no desktop. This is the 2nd stage with blue background, not the initial loading windows flag. I've since rebooted a few times, but ... nothing ...
I booted a windows 10 USB to attempt to run recovery options but received a message that an update was in progress ("it looks like you started an upgrade and booted from installation media"). I was unable to revert to a previous build, and startup repair didn't help. I can get to the command line but other than copy files there's little else I can do (system is *of course* all backed up anyway to crashplan, and non system drive data looks intact in any case)
Any tips - other than a clean install? perhaps not such a bad thing after over a year of insider builds....

Hello,

I discovered my laptop was infected with a Trojan Zefarch and took a couple steps in an attempt to remove it. I ran scans with Symantec, Spybot S&D, and Malwarebytes, ran RegistryCleaner, and deleted a couple suspicious-looking folders in my AppData folder. After doing all this and at least one restart, I discovered that the touchpad and built-in keyboard on my laptop were not working. I'm currently using an external USB mouse and keyboard until I can figure this out. I'm running Windows 7 on an hp dv6.

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone can help.

I have upgraded to windows 10 for a few weeks now and over the last couple of days it has stopped installing any windows updates, the error code that pops up is (error 0x80070643)

It's also stopping me from installing some other programs but not all.

I have tried restarting the computer, Nothing
I've tried restarting wuauserv service, Nothing
I've tried the troubleshooter for windows update, it says problems were found and they were fixed.
I have also cleared the cache for update downloads from the following folder:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

In the Windows update page it seems to take forever to install the updates and then throws out the following:
There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:
Security Update for Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 4.0 (KB2993928) - Error 0x80070643

Answer:Avira refused to update, so I uninstalled and attempted to install Avast! but it failed...

If you uninstalled Avira via Add/Remove Programs only, you might still want to run Avira's uninstall tool to be sure it has 100% uninstalled all tidbits scattered on your drive and in the registry to avoid possible future issues. Here's a link to the uninstall tool download site:http://www.avira.com/en/support/av7_upgrade_tools.htmlAfter running the uninstall tool, Avast probably would have installed OK for you. I run Avast and it sure is quick to notice those remnants of previous antivirus programs during installation. It just thought you might have two AV's on your system------a definite no-no. The AVG, if you're happy with it, could yet encounter problems if there are bits of Avira still in your registry or lurking elsewhere on your pc. I'd definitely run that Avira uninstall tool just to be sure. You might even want to do a search on keyword AVIRA and see if you have any files/folders Avira left, too, and delete them.

Hi
I'm running Windows 7 64bit on a new Asus N61v laptop with Atheros networking card. Everything was working fine but lately I've had some problems with the wireless network dropping out. Today my wireless stopped working entirely. I logged on to the quick browser profile I had and the wireless worked fine, but whenever I switched back to my main administrator account the wireless adapter wouldn't enable and kept saying no wireless networks available. The switch on the side did nothing at all, nor did enabling it via networking or the keyboard hotkey. After a while bluetooth stopped working too. I could connect to my router via ethernet cable, and went into device manager to update my drivers. I selected my network card and checked for driver updates via windows. It didn't work. So someone suggested I try system restore. I restored my laptop to June 2nd. It didn't fix the wireless adapter. I went back to device manager to reinstall drivers but I accidently hit "driver rollback", that's when my computer restarted and the BSOD appeared. Now I can only avoid the BSOD by restarting in safe mode WITHOUT networking.

Today I tried to install Chromium OS mint from a USB stick on my Lenovo Thinkpad x100e. It got to the Chromium logo, then shut down. When it rebooted, the built in inputs weren't working: the keyboard and mouse don't work now. I used an external keyboard/mouse to log in.

Oddly, I can still use most of the fn shortcuts, and the power button works as well. I can see the hardware in the hardware manager, and everything looks normal there. When I go to the trackpad/trackpoint options in the mouse settings, I can't alter the settings; normally the boxes can be checked/unchecked.

The issue is not restricted to Windows though; I can't use the built-in keyboard/mouse in the BIOS either.

Does anyone have an idea of what is going on and how to fix my mouse and keyboard?

EDIT: I updated the BIOS and it's now working. Should've probably known it was a bios problem since the keyboard wasn't working in the BIOS.

A couple of weeks ago I got error messages from Security Essentials when restarting a PC (Win7/32, SP1). I could not uninstall the program using the Control Panel, so I used the FixIt-utility from Microsoft.
This made things worse.
I am not able to run Windows Update anymore (error code: 80073712 ? Windows could not search for new updates).
There are no system restore dates going back before I started having the problems two weeks ago.
When running sfc /scannow (as admin) I get the following error message:
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.
Tried the same function using the Win 7 (SP1) install disk. Get the following error:
There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete.
Restarted several times with the same results.
Since SFC was not working I tried to do a repair install. During the compatibility check I got this message:
Windows needs to be restarted so necessary changes to system files can be made before continuing.
I have tried several reboots and also checked for a pending.xml file. Nothing.
Any suggestions/ideas? It is a standard PC I use for Office apps.

The laptop boots up into XP just fine. But there are a few error messages and a bunch of junk on the computer so I decided it would be easier for me to reinstall Windows XP.

So I booted off a XP cd. It went thru the setup preparation.

After the preparation, the setup shows all the drives on the computer (there is only C) and it prompts me to press enter to install a fresh copy to that drive.

Upon pressing Enter, I get the message that "No Drives Found, aborting setup"

I cant seem to get around this.

Any ideas?

I recently had an outage and my OS disk became currupt, so I went to reformat both ssd's and start fresh (I have a pair of ocz vertex 3's for my drives). I from time to time reinstall anyway as to clen up the disks, as I've heard this is healthy for a pc. This time, however, it gives me the GPT error that many others here have encountered, granted under different circumstances. I have changed nothing in my BIOS and don't know how to toggle between the different partition styles as 7 Home Premium 64bit apparently doesn't let you choose. I tried only using 1 ssd at a time, and both give me the issue. I am using the same OEM disk as I always have. Might the reason be some setting that got switched when it was shut down hard by the outage, or might it be a component on my motherboard housing the necessary stuff been damaged by a spike? I'm sorry if I sound primitive with my question.

Answer:attempted to reinstall but gives gpt error, never had error before

It depends on the exact GPT error. If you had a UEFI BIOS install and are now trying to install normally with Legacy BIOS setting enabled it would error due to previous GPT disk formatting, or vice versa.

Installing Win7 with a UEFI BIOS requires a GPT HDD following these steps to install to UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums.

If you don't want UEFI but want to install normally to an MBR disk and this is a UEFI BIOS, you'll need to enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module in BIOS setup.

Then to install normally to an MBR disk wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command to clear any GPT formatting, proceed with normal Clean Install Windows 7. If any further problems report back verbatim error message and step at which it occurs.

Watch this video to better understand the difference between UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS - YouTube.

In addition look over these steps to learn what works best to get a perfect install, which are same as for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Hello everybody; I've been looking through the forum for a few hours with no help so I'm creating a new thread to expose my problem

I have a Lenovo G470 with Win7x64; wich after 2 years of use started to do everything really slow, so I tried to use the Lenovo recovery functionality wich was supposed to return everything to factory default.

After trying to use it, it threw an 'invalid partition' error or similar; and then when I tried to reboot to search the issue, it just started booting in recovery mode.

From there, I started googling around and found that maybe there was an issue with the volumes/partitions, so I entered in the diskpart list commands to see what was happening, and accidentally rebooted.
Laptop started normally, but after choosing the OS (It has this little menu where I have to select win7, it does not have another OS installed), it started to promt the 0x0000225 error.

Attempting a USB recovery, it leads me to select where I want to make the recovery, but options are

Operating System | Partition Size | Location
Windows 7 | 0 MB | (Unknown) Local Disk
Windows 7 | 29690 MB |(D: ) Lenovo

So somehow C is gonne and... empty

Then, what I was able to retrievve with

List partition:
Partition ### | Type | Size | Offset
Partition 1 | Primary | 200MB | 1024 KB
Partition 0 | Extended | 283GB | 201 KB
Partition 3 | Logical | 28GB | 254GB
Partition 2 ... Read more

Answer:Windows error 0x0000225 after attempted clean recovery

I was able to connect the disk to another PC; and this is is what diskmgmt reads of it:

And there are 253GB of free space; should I create a new simple volume and assign it the letter C? I want to be completely sure of what steps to follow, as this is the laptop I use at work D:

My Toshiba Satellite laptop had to be re formatted because it contained numerous problems. Also, it was extremely slow and did not respond most of the time. It came with Windows vista, but i decided to install windows xp on it. During the reformatting, the laptop shutoff by itself many times. Finally i got it to format, but then another problem occurred. When windows installed its files, it said " setup will now restart". After the restart and the loading screen, a blue screen appeared with the following error " a write operation was attempted to a volume after it was dismounted" or something. The error was only there for a fraction of a second, and then the computer restarted. This loop kept continuing without windows xp ever finishing it's installation. I also read on another post that you have to change something from raid to ide in the bios, but i do not know how to do that. I know how to access the bios, but i do not know how and where i can change this. So, my question is, how can i fully solve this problem?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Hello

I have an error using Microsoft Outlook 2010.

This happens every time I try to reply or forward an email. I get an error that says, "The attempted operation failed. An object could not be found."

I am not running any add-ons.

I have read that I need to make sure that I am using the correct smtp and I am. smtp.123-reg.co.uk is what is in the outgoing mail server. You can verify that this is the correct smtp at How to set up MS Outlook 2010 with POP3 | 123-reg Support

What other options can I look at to get this sorted?

Thank you very much for your help.

I have found a solution to this after a bunch of searching.

I found this at: "The attempted operation failed. An object cannot be found." - Microsoft Community

Need some guidance.

I'm trying to help a friend who got hit by something, virus, malware etc. Cleaned that up but....

In looking over his Win 7 64bit Home Premium system, I noticed his Windows Update had not run in over a year. So I tried to run it manually and have been going down a rabbit hole ever since.

It looks like something has completely removed all the subkeys to "Component Based Servicing" which is core to the whole Update process. TrustedInstaller is throwing all sorts of 126 errors.

I tried to run an sfc /scannow and it fails

So last I ran a Readiness Test. Whoa, it fixed 8 and left 5478 errors. Almost all related to the regkeys needed for Component Based Servicing.

Is there an overall re-install for Windows Update and it's dependent components? Is there any chance this laptop can be saved? I've run out of idea's. All googled fixes have failed so I'm open to all suggestions at this point

Thx

My client's Win 7 64 bit desktop PC will not run"Windows Update".... Can't say when this quit working.. possibly in the last 1-2 months... I now get the red "x" and error message "Windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running"... when I try to start it in "services", I get "system Error 5"....

Also, the downloading using E 11 doesn't work,,, get the message "xxxxx contained a virus and was deleted".... I have scanned the PC with combofix, Malwarebytes, Rougue Killer, and others, and nothing is found. Downloads work fine with Google Chrome..

Finally, I also see "windows defender" is now missing from this system.

Not sure if any of these are related, but need to get Windows Update working again

Any suggestions on how to get Windows Update working again? This PC is out of use by my client until I get this resolved.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer~

Answer:Vista Update not working. Error 800B0100

Hi jlauriale, welcome to the forums.

I've seen 1 solution somwhere that might help, it did with me once. Windows Update connects using IEs settings, you could try to 'reset' Internet Explorer in the advanced settings tab. This will completely reset IE, including any addons you may have installed.

   Note
You will need to reinstall any addons you had, but try 1 at a time just in case it was 1 of them causing the issue
Hope this helps

Hi peoples!

As my subject line suggests, I'm having more than a couple of computer difficulties. When I start the computer, I get a screen freeze and have to press Ctrl,Alt,Del once before any programs will startup.
A lot of probs with internet connection and slowness while surfing as well as a lot of pop up ads in my face.
There are system boxes coming up with registry and dll errors and the whole system seems SLOW.

I use spybot regularly, but it doesn't seem to pick up everything??!
One error that comes up often is -

So I pretty much have the works going on here!

Sorry but I don't see any antivirus software running there and you have a lot of virus/trojan type processes running.

You need to do an on-line scan to remove the problems and also think about installing one (AVG is good, and its free). Then post a log back once that is cleaned up.

Hi!
I know there are tons of messages about how to install or force install W10 but I have a different error and none of the solutions seem to work.
I'm getting error 80244019 in WindowsUupdate every time I try to look for updates. I've tried since yesterday the force command line but it does nothing. I've tried also fixing Windows Update with WUdiagnostic. It "solves" 3 or 4 errors everytime I run it but it doesn't change the 80244019 error.
How do I solve 80244019 error?
I have also tried the MediaCreationTool way but when it's going to start the installation it says that I'm trying to install a different language, not the one that uses my OS so it won't let me upgrade The only way is wiping my files and apps and I don't want that. How do I change the language of the MediaCreationTool?
Thank you
PS. It's crazy how easy was for my other PC to install it and how impossible it is with this one.

Answer:Windows Update Error 80244019 and MediaCreationTool nor working

I have the exact same problem with the mediacreationtoolx64. I live in Denmark and i use english as language on my windows 7 pro. But instead of just checking the language used MS has decided to do some ber secret magic trick that i cannot seem to escape so that it wants to install a danish version of windows 10. This is SO annoying. How can they just assume that you want a danish version just because you live in denmark? There can be a million reasons for using another language and the user should be able to upgrade to the language that they already uses.

Greetings,

I am using Windows XP SP3. On shutdown of my laptop I received a message about Microsoft Updates to install and computer would shutdown when finished installing. An hour later the updates still had not finished installing so I shut down my laptop manually.

When I turned on my laptop I received a message stating could not find C:windows/system 32/ juschd.exe.bat file, however, computer continued to boot up and all appeared well.

I then tried to update McAfee and the Security Center was not able to update so I type in the address bar of Internet Explore www.mcafee.com and Internet Explore was not able to display the page. I also found I could not get to any site with "McAfee" in the address.

I called McAfee and after a hour they said I need to call a different department and that there would be an additional charge.

So I decided to try and fix this on my own. Researched and found that this might be a MTU size error so made registry entry of hkey_local_machine\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndiswan

This did not work. Then read to uninstall McAfee. So I uninstalled McAfee including showing all folders and files and then deleting them. Needless to say this did not work. I still could not visit the McAfee websites.

Then I found this forum and did some more reading. Wish I had found this forum first.

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit (I think) and I cannot run Windows Updater or switch on Windows Firewall. On a possibly related note, Windows .NET framework refuses to install or work properly on my PC.

Windows Updater: When I attempt to check for updates the updater simply says that the "service is not running" I have been unable to turn the service on by any method I have tried. Whenever I run the inbuilt troubleshooter and recommended Microsoft Fixit files, they merely say they have either fixed the problem or not detected the problem. Sadly, this isn't the case as the problem has not been resolved at all. When I ran the troubleshooter recently, it provided a report which I have attached as a .pdf in the hope it may help lead to a solution.

Windows Firewall: The Firewall says is is 'Not running reccommended settings' and will not restore those recommended settings if I ever click the button to 'fix' the issue. If I open 'Windows Firewall with Advanced Security' the program merely states "there was an error opening the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap-in. The Windows Firewall with advanced security snap-in failed to load. Restart the Windows Firewall service on the computer you are managing. Error Code: 0x6D9

I have seen that these issues have been solved on this forum before without system resets and hope such a solution is possible for my computer.
Thanks for your time,
Joel.

Answer:Help?: Cannot Update Windows & Firewall Not Working (Error 0x6D9)

First of all, welcome to BC !

The firewall and updater problems are very common symptoms of malware infection. Your best bet is to post this problem in the 'Am I infected?' section of BC and get any question of malware resolved before going looking for other possible solutions.

When you post there, include the make and model of your computer, as well as your operating system. If it is self-built, then list the main specs. And be patient !  These people are busy !  And if you are asked to do something which you don't understand, post back to them for clarification.

Hi forum,

I'm having some problem about a week ago with Microsoft security essentials bugging out on me and not opening or updating. Basically the message I got on opening MSE was windows cannot access specified path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the file. Upon reading this about a week ago, I think! I proceeded to foolishly downloading a Zeroroot access program and a few MSE alternatives. Since then I have still been unable to re-install MSE by deleting all components in the registry.

The error code I get with trying to re-install MSE is 0x80070643

Having then unistalled the zeroaccess program and the previous alternative antivirus programs, I still cannot get MSE working, and I now have a windows 7 update error. The new system update I believe may be to do with security as-well!! The error code on doing a windows 7 update is 80070005, and it did cut out at 9% every time. (although now I think it is just 0%)
Can someone please help me as I have had a very successful streak of avoiding viruses by always usin MSE. I don't want, and can't afford to get a virus attack, not to mention Im runnign windows 7 ultimate so I need the windows 7 updates too because the ultimate can be dodgy sometimes. Nb the update I cannot do is 1.4mb but I am anticipating windows will throw me a new update any day soon which could be anywhere from 30mb to 200mb and it could fail all of it leaving me prone to attacks.

I can post my specs, ... Read more

So I realized I had an issue when I was prompted by some software to install a hotfix for windows that fixes an issue with exceptions.

I downloaded the hotfix but a prompt popped up almost immediately giving me a 0xc8000222 error.

A simple search lead me to a simple solution: run Windows Update.

When I go to run Windows Update, however, it tells me that the service is not running. I've verified it is, including stopping it and starting it again with a reboot.

There apparently was an update given by Microsoft to fix the Windows Update issue but, of course, it's released as an msu so it fails with the 0xc8000222 error.

I haven't had a chance to run chkdsk yet (I can't spare the time as this is my work machine and have things to do today) though there are no other issues with my system so I find it unlikely. I did run the SFC tool though, the output log can be access here.

Any ideas on how to progress would be great. Thanks.

Answer:.msu updates throw error 0xc8000222. Windows Update not working.

Hi, I originally posted this in the standard 'Windows 7 Help' section and was advised to post it here, so sorry for duplicate topics.
I have previously run virus detection software and it does not appear to have fixed any of these problems, but I will, of course, happily try again if it is deemed the best option with recommended software.

I was advised to include the following information...PC Model: Acer Aspire M3910Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
I have also attached a transcript of the DxDiag Diagnostic readout in the hope that it will help.
Problems: I cannot run Windows Updater or switch on Windows Firewall. On a possibly related note, Windows .NET framework refuses to install or work properly on my PC. I understand these are common issues with Malware infection.
Windows Firewall: The Firewall says is is 'Not running reccommended settings' and will not restore those recommended settings if ... Read more

I honestly think I need some advanced help here because Ive tried about every solution I could find that pertained to me using Google.

So all of a sudden my windows update just stopped working/checking for updates(I get unknown error 8024402C ) and I cannot connect to some Microsoft websites like "www.update.Microsoft.com" and the download place for ie 10, Firefox says it cant find the server at "update.microsoft.com" and "download.microsoft.com" and when I diagnosed the connection with internet explorer it said "The DNS isn't responding" on both Microsoft websites all other websites work fine.

Things Ive tried that did not work:

IMPORTANT: I have recovered my laptop back to an image I made 3 years ago before I knew this would be this hard to fix.
The Microsoft fix it tool gives me error 80072EE7
updated some drivers
Went to "services.msc" and checked that background intelligent, windows update, and workstion were started and automatic.
I did a full scan with malware bytes program and found nothing.
I changed around the (TCP/IPv4) on my internet connection to the opendns and googledns adresses. could not change on the (TCP/IPv6) said invalid address.
Ran ccleaner program to fix any registry problems there might be.
tried about all the Microsoft support links I could find that looked like they might help

Hi all. I am unable to get a shared folder from one user account on the same machine to add to another user account's Libraries due to this "folder not indexed" error. The same thing occurs when trying to add across the network to a different computer for a different user account's Libraries.

The folder permissions are set correctly, and they can be browser through Explorer. Just can't get them to add to Libraries.

I have Drive Indexing turned off on my C:\ drive, as the OS is on an SSD. I believe the consensus is turning off indexing is best for the life of such a drive. Is this where my conflict lies? Is there a fix or work-around?

Thx,
Kov

Answer:Attempted Share to Libraries Results in "Folder Not Indexed" Error

Hi Kov,

You're asking if disabling Disk properties: Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to properties
on an SSD would cause the issue on your machine.

Probably not.

You might see if rebuilding the index solves it for you: Index - Rebuild

I installed this update through Windows Update yesterday on my Asus laptop and my parents' Acer desktop. On mine, the CU failed to install but with a retry it worked. After it installed, I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter, and came back with there errors:

Potential Windows Update Database Error Detected
Service Registration missing or corrupt
Windows Update database corruption.

I ran it on the Acer and the same errors were found.

So, I choose the Fresh Start option on the Asus which worked perfectly. I ran the troubleshooter again, found no problems. Reinstalled this update, but had to restart because it got stuck on downloading. After that no problems installing but the troubleshooter came back with those same errors.

The only thing I can figure is that the update is causing it but I'm not sure what to do.

Hi, I'm kind of at my wits end at this point. I don't know if my problems are fixable, or if I just need to get a new computer.

It started with just a few programs on my computer that had side by side configuration errors. I was advised to uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, but some would not reinstall correctly.

Several of the shortcuts on my computer are no longer working.

I have an HP Pavilion g7 running windows 7. I was using Firefox as a browser, but now I can't get adobe flash player to run on it at all. See posts here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1013897#answer-614388

and here:

https://forums.adobe.com/message/6656544#6656544

So I've had to use Chrome. Now, more and more programs won't open and are causing Windows to crash "Windows Explorer has stopped working." I ran a disk check and no errors were found. On the reboot I had and Event10 WMI error, and was able to find a fix through Microsoft.

Here are a list of the most recent errors:

Ok so I am going to go straight into the good stuff.

Essentially I launch Dragon Age and get an error about side by side configuration. I have already done an enormous amount of research on this subject and have found that the problem is usually attributed to the C++ Redistributable from Microsoft.

I tried to remedy this problem 3 different ways (manually working from a system restore point where Dragon Age & Bioshock 2 did not work, but Mass Effect 2, Call of Duty MW2, and the Original Bioshock were still fully functional) this system restore point had the Microsoft 2008 C++ Redistributable installed, and again the games I listed in parenthesis were working fine.

I first uninstalled the 2008 Redistributable and downloaded and installed the 2005 Redistributable, restarted the computer (even though it did not prompt me) and ran into a massive error. Essentially, this install made every game unplayable (all of those I listed above).

Next, I uninstalled the 2005 Redistributable and reinstalled the 2008 without a restart, and tried to launch every game listed above. Of course, I was back to square one, with Dragon Age and Bioshock 2 still giving me the side by side configuration error.

Lastly I tried launching each game through the program 'depends.exe' (using the .exe) to see exactly which dependencies each game required. Of course, both Dragon Age and Bioshock 2 gave me the side by side configuration, telling me that a MSVCP80.dll file could not be found with... Read more

Hi,

I am using Windows Vista.
Office 2010 purchased.
I can not recall my emails. The message I'm getting is "The attempted operation failed. An object could not be found".

Hosting Exchange and I checked with the hosting co. who says they support the functionality. Quote: This function is a default feature from Microsoft. All features that Microsoft has enabled by default are enabled by us, the default settings aren't changed

How to fix it?

I'm on my 4th re-install since 6/10/16. The reason being, when I closed there were 163 updates available, once it finished it would revert back and hang for 30 +. At which point I would be pretty much re-install. It has yet to show I have any updates,
so here I sit. Needles to say I can't install anything. That is the only way I would see any updates, windows update just runs until hour + later it stops saying I need to select a install method, which I've done, but do it again and repeat everything.

I wanted to install 10 but unable I assume for the same reason.

Thank you
GianRoss

Here the problem, when I turn my computer on, I get a bunch of error messages stating application errors. When I  try to use chrome I get a chrome.exe application error. Which says the application was unable to start correctly. I did a virus scan and removed one threat. and did a system clean and removed all unnecessary files. For some reason internet explorer is still working. http://www.computerhope.com/forum/Smileys/classic/huh.gif

Greetings!
I have an Optiplex 9010 AIO. This morning I was trying to update the BIOS of my system, from A10 to A13. During the update process it showed an error: "ME FW Update Failed: Internal error: FWU_Buffer " - please see the photo below. Although the update failed on the Management Engine part, it still boots up and running OK. I tried couple of times to update the BIOS, and each time I got the same error. I tried to flash the A12 and A11 BIOS as well, A12 gives same error, and A11 has the same Management Engine version hence no use.
Any help on this is very much appreciated!

Hello, I'm trying to update my Windows 2000 to SP4. I've downloaded the SP4 Express Installation to my hard drive and I've run it once and what it did was scan my computer, but I canceled it while it was scanning. The next day when I wanted to update to SP4, update.exe generates errors and is closed. What should I do? Please help me.

Dear Forum,

the windows update service on my laptop only returns error 80070002. It seems to be a common problem for a lot of people, however most of the standard steps to take do not seem to work for my machine.

CHKDSK is ok.

sfc /scannow however refuses to work. Even with admin privileges, it says that "resource protection" wont allow it to run. If started from windows recovery mode, sfc claims that there is another operation pending and a reboot is needed, first. Needless to say, this other operation is stuck in limbo.

All other methods of manually deleting/reseting the update logs, including the .bat from this website, have failed.

Even returning to a system restore point brought no change.

The last known update to work was for net framework.

I'm not sure where to go from here since i figure my attempts might have already made the situation worse.

Had to use a third party filesharing provider:

Hello, my Windows Update is not working: it returns the error 80073712. It has been like this for several months. I tried to do sfc /scannow but it says: "beginning system scan. This process will take some time" and 2 seconds after it says "Windows Resource Protection could not preform the requested operation". My Windows Help and Support doesn't work either as well as my Windows Features (when I open "Turn Windows features on and off" it returns a blank box). I also tried the "Windows6.1-KB947821-v27-x86.msu" but it does not repair the error. I also scanned my system with Malwarebytes Antimalware and avast! to see if it was a malware or virus but i do not find anything.

In the other hand, my date and time is working as well as my search box.

I do not know what I have to do.
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate x86.
Thank you for your help

PS: I also tried some other things but I do not remember anymore what they were
