Preferred Solution: Not detecting my wifi router after windows 8.1 update.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
I just installed Windows 7 on my laptop, and now the internet connection doesn't work. When I go into the Network and Sharing Center, there are only two options instead of the usual 3. They are " ISAACFOX-PC" and "Internet" and there is a line with a red X in between. The router is not located, although it is working on the desktop I am typing this on. Any suggestions? I am using a Netgear NVG150 router.

Thank you,
Isaac

Try changing the channel number on your router, via your router's web-based configuration utility. A higher number is better (in the range 8 to11 gives the best wireless range).

OK, I'll try not to make this a 'forever' post.. Here's what we have at the house;

1 - Motorola Modem (horrible ISP)
2 - Dlink DIR 655 wireless router (about 2-3 years old)
3 - 2 laptops (windows 7/both)
4 - DirecTV broadband box (can't remember how that hooked up to the router?)
5 - Playstation 3
6 - (3) DTV sat receivers

The problem started while trying to connect the PS3 to the existing network. Only one laptop is wifi, the other laptop and Ps3 are in my room and wired in to the router, and the strange little DirecTV box is in the wired mix(for on-demand i guess?)

The PS3 could not log-in to the PSNetwork(still can't), but it could browse the web just fine. So I start manually typing in IP addresses, 6 IP's in all, including the sharing of 3 DTV boxes that show up on the network on my admin laptop. Didn't work, so I get into the DLink router URL and start opening up ports that PSNetwork uses. At this point I think I have it figured out, then I did a firmware update on the router. My laptop, the PS3(internet, no PSNetwork) and even the little DTV box was working fine, all wired in, using 3 of the four ports.

The old lady's laptop in the living room not only couldn't get on-line, it couldn't detect a wifi network? So try to set up a new real quick before I left this AM.. No beans!! I looked at the specs for the router, the firmware is up to date but from early 2010, and the features say "NO" to gaming sup... Read more

I want to use a separate wifi router with my Comcast cable modem that has a built-in wireless router. I want to improve speed and also use a better firewall.

Am I correct that if I put the Comcast cable modem into bridge mode, I can still address it via it's IP address, which for me is 192.168.1.1.

So should I set up the separate wireless router as 192.168.1.2? Will this device also get an external IP address on the Comcast WAN?

Thanks

I encountered an issue that the windows update is detecting old updates (2014, 2016). It could not get the latest one (January) though the servers are being patched monthly (last patch is Dec 2017).

Before I encounter the issue, I performed a C drive clean-up and deleted large files under C:\windows\installer\$PatchCache$\Managed. Though last month, I also performed this but did not encounter any issue. The difference is, I did not remove all the large
files (100 MB) and on this month, I removed the remaining files.
I also removed old virus definitions on the server.
Can you please help me with this issue? How can the servers detect the latest windows update?
Your response is highly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi,

I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
Questions:
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either 0.0.0.0 or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:
Output of ipconfig: http://pastebin.com/Zr9Eb7L7

Answer:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

Hi,
I am having trouble with my windows installation after attempting to install windows 10 a second time on the same machine, but different partition.
I have used a bootable USB device with the windows 10 installation (created with the same machine and the same settings for OS).
After pressing F12 and selecting the USB as the boot device, i started the installation process and got to the stage where you select which drive / partition to install windows. But the list only contained the USB device i used to start the installation process, and the SSD did not appear when tried to refresh / reload drives (or unchecked the "hide incompatible drives" checkbox).
After canceling the installation process, i was met with the following message when rebooting windows:
"Your PC/Device needs to be repaired.
The Boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information.
File: \BCD
Error code: 0x0000034
You'll need to use recovery tools. If you dont have..."

Before the error occured:
I have tried many different things BEFORE i got to the step above where I was able to start the USB stick and consequently ended up with the error.
However when the error occured the BIOS was reset to factory settings and i was able to log in to windows (and listen to spotify for an hour or so) before i tried the install that gave the error:

I recently updated my Inspiron 14" 5459 to the Windows 10 anniversary update, i noticed that when my wifi access point changes or wifi signal drops or turning off wifi, my laptop semi-freezes, you could still scroll with the mouse or track pad and select open tabs but that's all, clicking other icons and even the windows start menu does not work, if you wait for more than 5 minutes, everything goes back to normal. Waiting around for about 5 minutes is annoying so what I do is press ctrl alt delete and from there restart the laptop. my wifi adapter is updated to the most recent version and also both graphics card (intel hd 520 and amd radeon m335) is also updated to the latest version.  Any suggestion on how to resolve this issue?

Answer:after Windows 10 anniversary update, Inspiron 5459 freezes if wifi is turned off or wifi access point is changed, is there a solution to this problem?

Please confirm the wireless card from the device manger or the network control panel. Also please update the BIOS firmware to the latest version. The BIOS update should ideally be version v1.2.2. Also please try system out with  a LAN cable as well to confirm if is indeed caused by the wireless. Though this may not run a complete diagnostics on the network you can run a hardware diagnostics on the computer using the following steps

Shutdown the computer
Hold the 'Fn' key and turn on the computer
Let go of the 'Fn' key after 2 seconds

This is will initiate the H/w diagnostics. Please let us know if it completes or if  you run into any errors. If  you do run into any errors.

Question: Not detecting wifi

My wifi is constantly `not available,' even when networks are available to my phone or my work laptop.  I've tried basic things like turning wifi off and back on, and resetting the whole computer, but it does not seem to work. I've seen instructions on the HP network for other laptop models, but not for the 450 G3.   If anyone can help, that would be wonderful.  Thank you

Hi all

My Wifi isnt detecting my home network. Whats strange that it happened on a turn off/on from the computer, i did not install anything.
At first, the network was detecting the home network, but wasnt able to connect (meanwhile, other devices, a phone and a table could), however now, i cant detect any network (mine or from neighbors, which appear on my phone).
Ive tried to reboot the PC, turn the card (fn+f3) on and off, disabling the card on the device manager and i cant find the driver for it. Its a notebook CCE Info Onix 545-B (not sure if its a Brazilian trademark only, anyway).
The card is a Realtek RTL8192CE Wireless LAN. Something else me is that on the device manager the name has a "(TEST)" at the end of the name, not sure if its nomenclature only, alsol, theres a triangle with a ! on it, indicating some issue(which i dont know how to specify ).
Any ideas to fix? i can provide any necessary information.
Thanks.

Hi alvinthen, I understand that you are having an issue with the WiFi detecting channel 13. I will try my best to help you with this issue.  You can try to change this, but you may need to purchase a router from the area you are in as Here are some steps you can try.  Open 'Control Panel' and go to the 'Networking and Sharing Center' select 'Manage wireless networks' and  click on 'Adapter properties', click on 'Configure' and then click on 'Advanced' then select 'Country Region (2.4GHz)' and in the Value Box Select  '#1(1-13)'. I hope this works for you, let me know how it goes.

Hi VVin8 and welcome to the forum. Sorry for the late reply. One of the things I would try first is doing a 30-30-30 reset of the router and set everything up again from scratch. If that doesn't work then maybe a driver problem.

Hi: Your notebook only has a single band (2.4 GHz) wifi card, so that may be the reason it does not see all the wireless networks nearby.  It will not see or connect to any wireless network running on the 5.0 GHz band. It should be able to see and connect to any wireless network broadcasting on the 2.4 GHz band.

I purchased this laptop earlier today and have not been able to detect and connect to my personal wifi. I have another (non HP) laptop which currently does not, and has not had wifi connectivity issues. My phone is also able to connect to my wifi without issue. I've gone through every option in the "common fixes for wireless connectivity issues" thread and was not able to detect my network but have been able to detect every single one of my neighbors' networks. I've also tried alternating channels on my router, changing the wireless band frequency from 5Hz to 2.4Hz, uninstalling and reinstalling the network drivers. On two occassions I was able to detect my network but after I typed in my password it said I was unable to connect to this network and then my network would no longer show up.   I'm at a loss here, I'm very tempted to just return this laptop and buy a different brand. Help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello dear community, Some time ago, during the system launch, bluescreen error flashed for a moment and then my notebook was restarting over and over. I entered safe mode and launched system using the option "Latest working settings". Unfortunately, now I have a problem with my WiFi. My device is Qualcomm Atheros QCWB335 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers(few different ones to be sure), tried to reset BIOS to default settings and checked if my WiFi is turned on(my WiFi lamp is blue) - my device is visible in the "network connections section", turned on and working properly in the device manager(driver is working properly here too), but still there's not a single WiFi connection available(I checked it in few different places where I live). There is no problem with the ethernet cable connection. Windows Update cannot repair this issue. Windows Diagnostics says: "This may be due to a problem with the driver of wireless network connection card" and "There are problems with a wireless network adapter". I can provide screenshots if needed. I think I did every possible thing and so far nothing worked. Few days ago I've ordered a duplicate of my WiFi device, replaced the one I have and the result is still the same. Windows detected the device and installed drivers automatically, it is visible and working properly, but it's not detecting any WiFi connections. Maybe I am missing something really sim... Read more

So I've looked through the forums and not seen anything quite like this. I was working on my 2014 Y50 (just on chrome and excel) when the wifi got spotty.  I turned off the wifi, intending for the computer to reset its connection.  The computer froze, then blinked to BSOD with a "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION".  I restarted, but now my computer isn't able to recognize my wifi adaptor at all.  While I don't have my computer's original specs on me, I assume it had a Intel Dual-band wireless adaptor to begin with, which isn't appearing under network adaptors in Device Manager (for that matter, no wireless adaptor is).  Additionally, running Intel PROSet Wireless' Manual Diagnostic fails at the first step ("Wireless Hardware is not present"). Obviously my adaptor didnt just up and vanish.  Any thoughts on how to resolve this issue?

I have a linksys WRT54GS wireless router. I share a wireless connection with a few other people in the house. The security setting are pretty basic, WEP with a simple key, broadcasted ssid and no MAC filtering. Lately we have been experiencing some ridiculous lag and I'm suspecting that we have some freeloaders. My question(s) are:

(A) How do I figure out what devices are accessing my router?

(B) How can I collect the MAC addresses of all the computers in the house without going into each one?

I have an HP C4385 All in One. Printer works fine and I can access the device embedded web page but I cannot access the scanner. Device Manager shows scanner and includes the IP address.

Scanners and Cameras page shows ICON (scanner & camera as a single Icon). Clicking on it show properties. It says Port = Auto. If I start the HP Scanner software, it just hangs.

After a frustrating few hours, I am turning to this forum for help, please. Ours is not a unique problem, but other discussions of the same problem have not provided enough help. Up to this morning, the Aspire had not only detected (and connected to) our home wifi network, but had detected all the other wifi networks in the neighbourhood. Now it doesn't find any. Our other four devices continue to connect as usual. We looked at the device list under 'network adapters' and in this list, according to Acer's own help page, we should have two adapters among the others there: Ethernet adapter for wired network and wireless network adapter. Neither are present. We have no idea how they came to be 'lost' or how we can restore them. Any help would be much appreciated, and please bear in mind we are reasonably computer literate, but not techies. Or, do I just need to send the wretched machine back?

All-in-one device (switch, router, wifi ap, wideband modem) is used for internet and LAN access. Its wifi operates in 2.4GHz and 5GHz band. These two bands operate in sync, means if switched off then both, if switched on then both together. ThinkPad T560 does not detect the 5Ghz AP. ThinkPad's wifi needs to be disabled for few seconds than enabled back (wifi applet in system tray) in order to see AP's also 5GHz band. Where is the root cause? ThinkPad has Intel dual band wireless AC 8260. All installed software + drivers should be up to date.

Hi

I'm new to the boards so hullo to everyone.

Basically when I tried to install the Emsisoft Anti-Malware program I found out SP1 for Windows 7 hadn't installed (program would not install without this; obviously double-checked via control panel etc, and it indicated just Windows 7 was installed).

I have also checked for updates via Windows Update a couple of times after this to be sure, but wasn't detecting that SP1 wasn't installed.

Has anyone experienced this / know the most appropriate solution?

I understand you can manually download SP1, but after looking at the particular page on the Microsoft page, I'm not sure which of the options to select. I have Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

Many thanks in advance for any advice / suggestions...

I've got a Lenovo g50-45 with Windows 7 64 bit installed and a few months ago the internal wifi card stopped working. I tried to troubleshoot it at the time but was at a busy point in my life so I just bought a USB adapter to make due for the time being. The internal card is the one it came installed with, an Atheros model:QCNFA335. This card is supposed to work for WiFi and Bluetooth. In my case when I look in device manager I see the Bluetooth device but not the WiFi card device. Pictured here The miniport adapter is a cord for the Netgear you also see in the device manager. That's the USB adapter I'm using to have internet access. I've gone into the BIOS and made sure Wireless is enabled. I tried installing the appropriate drivers found on Lenovo's site here but after going through the install process I just get an error message saying "No appropriate driver to be installed" pictured here. When I use the F7 function (Airplane Mode) the device settings shown are empty as seen here. Which is also weird considering Device Manager can still see the Bluetooth device. If I remove the internal card the Bluetooth disappears from the Device Manager so it's definitely from the internal card. From what I've read online other people who have had  this problem have figured that their laptops just have a defective card and the only option is to buy a new one.I'm sincerely hoping that's not the case as it's very concerning to he... Trying to figure out where to start with this one.

I'm in Window 8 on a Toshiba L855-S5112 Satellite laptop. It's an inexpensive laptop, which was most likely my first mistake.

But... My wireless sees nothing, and when I check the device manager for the network adapter info, it's enabled and it reports that it's working fine. the wifi switch is definitely set to on.

With "show hidden devices" turned on, this is what I see for network adaptors:

Answer:hp laptop not detecting home wifi network

Hello @rohitseth21 , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand you're having connection issues on your 15-R005TX notebook.If the notebook sees the hotspot but doesnt see the routers SSID you might be better off inquiring with your Internet Service Provider or router manufacturer. Here are some steps you can try. Powercycle the network:1. Shut down your notebook.2. Unplug the power to your router.3. Unplug the power to your modem.4. Wait at least 45 seconds.5. Plug in the modem, and wait for it to come back online.6. Plug in the router, and wait for it to come back online.7. Turn on your notebook, and test your connection.Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.4. Restart your PC and test.It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.3. If you are trying to use an integrated wireless adapter is it switched on?

What is listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters? What, if any, warnings or errors are anywhere in Device Manager?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool. Also show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Is there any way to tell how many people are hooking up to a wifi network?

Here's the situation: I recently moved into a 5/3 house, with everyone on independant leases. These guys are cheap, so nobody wanted to go in with me on internet access. I said I'd get it hooked up and provide the password to those who wanted to split the bill...the more people who split, the cheaper it is.

I figure I can always change the bill if somebody gets the bright idea to pay for a month and then renege. My concern is that one of these guys is pretty shady, and constantly has groups of like 5-10 scrubby high-school kids hanging out around the house. One of the kids wanted access one day, to which I flatly said "not unless you want to help pay for it". A few days later the kid comes up to me telling me that one of the other roomates wants to pay to get online.

I smell a rat.

So how can I detect how many people are on my network at a given time? Is there a way to track daily usage, too? I just don't want 5-10 of these little scrubs getting on at a time and sucking up all my bandwidth. They're already a bunch of rude little snots who try to lie, cheat, and bullshit their way out of any problems they can rather than act cool towards our other roomates or our neighbors. Really...I could expound on this all day and tell some pretty funny stories, but I don't want to "wall o' text" anyone who doesn't rerally care that muc... Read more

Answer:Detecting WiFi network usage from my roomates?

That depends on how far you want to go and how fancy your router is.

If you use a model that supports third party firmware, I know the latest version of dd-wrt has a bandwidth monitor and logging capabilities, but windows software can also do this, but you wouldn't be able to track bandwidth usage by person.

Perhaps the easiest method is to just use MAC address filtering and only allow certain machines onto the network.

You can easily check who is on your network by DHCP leases.

I'm currently re-configuring my home network following problems last week that have caused me to start over with it.

I'm using a westell 2100 DSL modem and a MN-500 wireless base station router by microsoft, but the problem is, I can't get my PC to detect the base station for anything. I've tried setting my DSL modem up as a bridged connection (it also works as a router, but has no ethernet ports or a wireless access point), and it still doesn't work.

I know that the router SHOULD work because prior to this week, I've had it working fine for about 5-6 months.

Anyone know what the problem could be? Sorry if more information is needed, I'll happily post any needed info.

Answer:Problem detecting my router.

Your DSL modem has no ethernet ports? Maybe I mis-read that one.

Using wireless, are you using the software that came with the wireless card or Windows wireless zeroconfig to find the access point?

Is the router set to broadcast the SSID? If not neither of the above will know it is there so you will have to manually setup the wireless connection in your wireless management software to gain access to the wireless router.

Did you make any changes to the default settings in the wireless router and how does the router hook up to your DSL modem?

Setup is like this modem -> router -> PC

I can connect to the internet if i hook up the modem directly to the PC. However, when trying to connect through the internet it doesn't work. Vista says "network cable is unplugged".

Checking the router, there are lights on power and internet parts, but not the little computers.

I suggest reinstalling the network card drivers. Right-click on the device in Device Manager, and select Uninstall. Reboot, and let Windows automatically install the latest drivers. Be sure you are hard-wired into the router first, if possible.

Answer:Acer Aspire V5 122p Detecting Wifi but not conntec...

Method 1 ? Reset TCP/IP Stack Try to reset the TCP/IP stack in Windows to possible repair the Internet connection if it is corrupted. Go to Start, Run and type in CMD. Type the following commands: netsh int ip reset reset.lognetsh winsock reset catalog Reboot the computer and see if the Internet connection works. Method 2 ? Update driver in Device Manager Access Device manager > Network adapter > Right click on the Wireless card and select uninstall ( Do not check the box, Delete the driver from the device). Scan for the hardware changes for reinstalling the driver. Method 3 ? Reset wireless network Sometimes the wireless network may have MAC address filtering enabled, which means only certain computers can connect to the router. You can quickly tell if this is the case by simple resetting the wireless router to default factory settings. This will remove all security, filtering, port forwarding, or any other settings that could possibly be preventing the computer from connecting to the Internet.

I have a Hewlett Packard Pavillion 500-424 desktop with Windows 10.
I bought an Epson Work Force WF=3620 wireless, multifunction printer.
I do not have a network with a router. The computer is connected to the

Epson support help me setup the printer's direct wifi signal. However, for some
reason it is not listed in the available wifi networks. When I click on the little

the window that opens

does not show my printer's wifi. Other networks in my area
sometimes show, sometimes not. In this screenshot, JESSIE-PC

nothing shows. It's just blank.

If I click on Network settings, it opens this:

I've been on 9 phone calls with tech support this week, 5 with Epson, 3 with
Microsoft, & 1 with HP. They keep passing me around. The guy I talked to on

My pc detects that there is another computer in my network. Thing is I don't have a router or home network in place. I have a wireless cable modem (Motorola). When I check my network and sharing center it shows my pc but it also shows WNR2000 router and WNR2000. Through more looking there is a name for them that is password protected. I also found a place that shows 'people near me'. I do live in an apartment I often see other wireless modems in the connect to, but I have never had one to show up in my network and sharing center.
What if anything do I need to do to correct this issue?

I recently purchased a new netbook, an ASUS 1008HA (LINK) to be exact. I booted it up to try to connect to the internet for easy web browsing but cannot find the wireless router that I have, a D-Link WBR-1310.

I have a family member who uses a laptop to connect to the router using its wireless card and has no problem. However, my new Asus 1008HA netbook cannot detect my router. It can detect another router in the distance which is close to my house however. I am close enough the the router, and still cannot detect it. Please help.

Notes:
1. Router: D-Link WBR-1310
2. Netbook: ASUS 1008HA

I work in a small office that has a Windows 7 PC that is being used as a Fileserver.
Using my Mac laptop, I can connect to the Fileserver PC with no problems, but am unable to do so, using a Windows 7 laptop. The problem seems to be that the Fileserver is connected to the WiFi Router via a Switch.

When I create a Network Map, I see this:

My W7 Laptop   =  =  =  =  =   WiFi Router  ______________  Internet

          |
Fileserver       ___________     Switch

Other PCs connected to the Network, show up at the bottom, in the list of devices that cannot be placed on the map.

I have Admin privileges for all devices. How can I fix this problem?

Ok, so i have my WiFi max, which is a usb dongle netowork device thing. Back in XP, i used it as a "router" or "access point" for my PS3's wifi internet. In windows 7, i have installed the driver for this dongle, installed the software, but when i connect my ps3 to it, it says "The ip address cannot be found". My computer is connecto to the internet, and i want to share that inernet with the one that the dongle sends out. This worked in XP, i just pressed on the connection my computer was connected to and enabled internet connection sharing. I do the same thing in Windows 7, but it wont work...Any suggestions? Can it be a firewall thing? I have windows firewall turned off, but i guess it still might be blocking it....

Hi All,

I hope someone can help me as i am pulling my hair out here!

I have a new laptop with Windows 7 64 bit pre-installed.

The symptoms are that it won't connect wirelessly to my router at home, but will connect with a wire to the same router, and furthermore it will also connect either wired or wirelessly to the network at my office (this is an unsecured wifi network). I never have any problems at work, only at home, and only then with wifi - wired connection works fine.

I did an IP config thingy and got this..... I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Answer:New PC Windows 7 64 bit, connects to wifi router but not to internet

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Try refreshing your wireless network profiles by removing all of them then just add your own SSID (wireless network).
Wireless Network - Remove

If that didn't help, you may changing your wireless security (WEP, WPA or WPA2), make sure that you are on WPA2, it's the safest and most secured.

Hi,I have a Lenovo Laptop N581 windows 8. I just changed my router to a DLink AC750 and now the wifi keeps on disconnecting all the time. I have another laptop which is working fine. Windows says that the network adaptor (Qualcomm Atheros AR9285, version 10.0.0.75 dated 2012-07-24) is working fine. I have changed the channels on the new router, updated the firmware and reset it multiple times but no change. I have also updated the Atheros adaptor through the control panel and it says I have the latest adaptor. I would appreciate if someone can help me fix this issue. Thank you very much

Hello Sevenforums.com,
Only literally just registered because of this huge problem.

By the way I have an Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g Wifi card.

So my story begins...

A while back I'd get BSOD very regularly ONLY when connected & using the internet. I did some rummaging on here & found out that it was the athr.sys driver that was corrupted. So I went on the internet, found a clean copy, downloaded and swapped it out with the corrupted driver.

Everything was fine for a couple months until last week the same thing happened again. So knowing the steps I had to take I repeated what I did by finding another copy of athr.sys off of the internet. (I think it was the same site so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a tainted copy)

HOWEVER, instead of swapping the files I accidentally went to Device Manager and fully uninstalled my wifi card! Panicking I reinstalled it using what must have been my laptops pre-installed software(?) (Also I note at this point when I accidentally uninstalled my wifi card I think I saw another device from the network section of Device Manager disappear along with Atheros. Whatever that device was, if it was even there, is a mystery to me)

Since reinstalling Atheros however, even though seemingly everything looks completely how it was before, it cannot detect any networks at all.

This leads me to my next problem.

I try to diagnose the problem & Windows says that the troubleshooter cannot start because of Error code 0x8007000E!

I'v... Read more

Hi everyone,

I need some help with a laptop, all of a sudden it stopped detecting my home WiFi network.

The laptop worked fine with this network before and it was configured to connect automatically.
The laptop detects the whole other bunch of networks around here (neighbours and such) but not my home. Other PCs and smartphones detect and connect to my network just fine.

I tried restarting the laptop, reinstalling and updating the drivers for the WiFi card and nothing worked.

It's an Asus laptop with Windows 8.1

I thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

I turned on my PC this morning and I found I could not connect to the Internet. I have a few other computers and devices in the house that are ALL connecting to the Internet fine. I've tried basic things like unplugging /re-plugging the Ethernet cable, resetting router, attempting to set up a new network, system restore, running norton anti-virus to detect any potential problems etc all of which haven't resolved the issue.

I also checked my device manager to see if my drivers were up to date and I found that under 'Other Devices' my Network Controller stated that the drivers were not installed. I'm not sure if this is the issue (considering my Internet was working absolutely fine less than 24hrs beforehand) but I can't search the Internet to automatically find the driver for obvious reasons.

I found a few people suggesting to use the hardware id to find the appropriate driver, however I'm struggling to find exactly what I need, I was wondering if anyone could give me the direct link to the driver i need and/or any other suggestions to resolve this issue. My network controller hardware id is below:

PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_0301&SUBSYS_25611814&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_0301&SUBSYS_25611814
PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_0301&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_0301&CC_0280

Thanks.

I just bought a brand new Toshiba Satellite L75-C7250 w/Win10. I can access the internet on an unsecured network or hot spot, but I cannot log into my wireless router. All of my other devices login properly. I have tried every "fix" from the internet, and it still will not recognize or accept my password. I've updated all drivers, disabled all firewalls and anti-virus software (even deleted the McAfee that came on the machine). I've unplugged/reset the modem and router. Any new ideas out there?

Hello,

I really need help since I'm not computer savy. Yesterday, I stupidly decided to disconnect my modem and router because all the wires were a mess!! Well, now I'm not sure if I reconnected correctly, but I guess I did since I can get online but have no wifi. My router password is working, however, when I entered all the wireless/security stuff on the Linksys site it just keeps bringing back to the basic set up page . I hsve no idea what is wrong. Any ideas? My router is a Linksys N300.

Thanks so much! I spent about 8 hours yesterday trying to fix this. Losing my mind!

Answer:Router won't connect, no wifi (moved from Windows 8 forum)

Might help to give us the actual model number of your Linksys router. The N300 refers to a type, not a model number. Wouldn't hurt to tell us the brand and model number of the modem.

Please tell us exactly how you have the computer, router and modem wired to each other, by referring to how the ports are named and labeled.

When you say, "I can get online but have no wifi", do you mean you your computer can get to the Internet only with a wired connection?

When you say the, "Linksys site", do you mean the web based administration pages on your Linksys router?

When you were changing the wireless and security settings, did you need to click a button the settings pages to actually save the settings.

Does your router show up in the list available WiFi connections on the Windows network connection list?

I experience the following problem with a new one week old Lenovo X220 built with Intel Advanced-N 6205: After 3-5 hours it disconnects from a wifi router and would not be able to connect to it until I reboot the router. It happened the first time on Friday, I was connected to our Verizon FIOS router and after 5 hours I lost connection and won't be able to connect for 2 hours trying every possible thing until I rebooted  the router, what I didn't have to do with countless number of other laptops/cell phones. Now X220 loses wifi connection every 3 hours and won't be able to connect until the router is restarted. All other devices in a house work perfectly fine, my roommates probably already hate me for rebooting the router. Router: Actiontec M1424WR (Verizon FIOS) Other devices which were and still are able maintain connections with this router for many hours w/o similar problem:- my old Dell Latitude E6400- my Samsung Captivate cell phoneand bunch of other HP laptops, macbooks etc. What I tried and what did not help:- rebooting X220- turning X20 off/on- installing the latest drivers for Intel 6205 card for the Intel website- installing/uninstalling Intel Wifi tools and Access Connections- restoring from a backup (not a complete factory setting restore)- setting DNS/IPs manually for IPv4 and turning off IPv6 I tried to collect some logging with netsh tracing and it only tells that the driver disconnects during acquisition. Some clue I dis... Answer:Wifi issue with X220 (intel wifi card); It stops connecting to a router after 3 hours

When it is reproducible in Win 7, went to Ubuntu Live CD and everything works there. So the problem is either inside:- router- Win 7 Intel 6205 drivers including shipped and the latest one  I don't think it is that low level though as I thought, as in Win 7 it tries to reconnect each time disconnecting during "Identifying Network" stage, and setting IP, gateway and DNS manually do not help.  UPDATE: I was able to update Verizon FIOS router to the latest firmware and switched it from WEP to WPA just in case.

I am currently stationed in Germany, and live in a village that has horrible internet. I cannot stream netflix, hulu, and downloads take several hours.

Is there a way to combine the internet that my cell phone receives and the wifi router I have at home to increase speed?

I have the ability to create a wifi hotspot from my cell phone if this helps.

Just something I thought up in my head, and wanted to find out if it is possible. Thanks in advance.

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

Answer:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.

One of the laptops at work is having issues, and I think someone with monkey hands screwed something up. As "the computer guy", it's on me to get it fixed.

His Windows 7 computer will not connect to a wifi network. It can detect them (so I know the radio is on), but after half a beat, I get that "windows was unable to connect" message".

Thinking it was the internal card, I connected my external antenna, and got the same error. So I think I can rule out hardware. I tried using an identical laptop from work, and that one connected with no problem. So I think I can rule out any issues with my router.

I've updated all the possible drivers on the computer, Windows is up to date, and i've disabled IPV6.

Here's where it gets weird. He can get an intermittent connection when he uses his phone's hotspot.

So I got a new router yesterday to replace the old one, and I've been working on it for a long time. But I can't seem to figure out why there isn't any internet connection. The new WiFi Router (D-Link DR-842) Shows it is connected to the internet (green light) but in the setup page, it says disconnected. Could the PPPoE details be causing this? As far as I know everything is correctly set up except for the internet part.
