Uncommanded wake from sleep yet no wake devices or wake timers exist

Question: Uncommanded wake from sleep yet no wake devices or wake timers exist

W7 PC wakes up from sleep every few minutes. It didn't use to. I am the builder / owner / sole user. Investigation done so far at the DOS prompt to establish the cause:

powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
(no results returned)

powercfg -waketimers
There are no active wake timers in the system

powercfg -lastwakeWake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 0Other ideas to try and establish the cause with please?

Many thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to these forums so please forgive if this is in the wrong place. I was unsure if this fell in another category, please feel free to move it.

Ok... Here's my issue, my laptop has started to randomly waking from sleep every morning at 7:04:52. I have walked the dirt path of Google searching for answers and have tried everything I could possibly find that
is even REMOTELY related to my problem.

Nothing on my Laptop has changed, and it has just started this problem. It's VERY annoying and I'm at my whits end trying to find out what's causing it.

Here's what I've tried/tweaked/confirmed:

- Confirmed that Wake Timers are Disabled - Fought with this on other various machines, first thing I checked.
- Ethernet Wake on LAN is Disabled (Laptop is only ever on WiFi Anyway)
- Wireless Adapter's "Allow Device to Wake this computer..." is also disabled and always has been.
- Windows Media Center's Update Service is disabled since I do not use WMC...
- Went into the Command Prompt and ran "powercfg -lastwake" and was told it was the "ACPI Lid" which is what I was also told in Event Viewer for each (event) occasion that this has happened.
- I've also checked to see if it was Windows Update, but it's settings have never changed and if it was WU it would wake up at 3 am instead...
- Checked to see wha... Read more

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with WinXPPro SP3, 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, and it is unreliable for Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring. I also wonder whether my Standby - Sleep - Suspend (S1 or S3) is working correctly.

When the PC is in Standby - Sleep - Suspend mode (S1 or S3), Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring work some of the time but not all of the time, and I'd like them to be 100% reliable.

These may be two different problems, but your advice will be appreciated. (Also, if I should post in a different forum, please advise.)

My Network Card is an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection, and I recently upgraded its drivers using "generic" PROXP.exe from the Intel website, although this has not helped the problem. The specific driver file e1e5132.sys is now from 2009 -- it used to be from 2007. But, as I say, Wake on LAN from Standby was not and is still not reliable, both before and after the driver update.

In Settings .. Network Connections ... Local Area Connections ... Properties ... Configure ... Power Management, all the Wake on LAN options are checked ON:

- Wake on Directed Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet from Power Off State
- Wake on Link

The NIC card's Diagnostic checks are all OK.

My fax modem card is a Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem, and I have the most recent drivers dated 7/27/07, version 7.67.0.50. In Settings ... Phone and Modem Options ... Modems ... Properties, "Allow this device to bring... Read more

Answer:Trouble with Wake on Ring, Wake on LAN and Standby - Sleep - Suspend

More to above: Dell has suggested I must re-install Windows. I've never done that, and I realize I'd probably lose all my applications and data - no good. Seems to me that's like using an atomic bomb to kill a mosquito. And why should I assume that will work?

But is there a way to re-install -- or maybe fix -- Windows that leaves everything else safe?

FYI - About a month or so ago, I ran SFC (System File Checker) in repair mode, and that didn't help with this problem.

Any ideas?

My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.

When I put my computer in sleep mode, it won't 'wake up'. I have to manually turn off the computer and then start it up again. This has happened twice. I'm not putting it into sleep mode until I find out what's wrong and that's exasperating as I normally leave my computer on all day so I can periodically play my games.

Answer:Computer won't 'wake up' after sleep mode with Windows 10, how can I wake it?

Any idea why this happens and how to fix it?

I have an Acer Aspire laptop with Win7 Professional x64 on it. Whenever my laptop goes to sleep, then I remove any USB device, a mouse or flash drive, it automatically wakes from sleep. Any way I can prevent this? Thanks.

Answer:Wake from sleep when removing USB devices

You may want to try going to device manager> mouse or key board; one at at time. Open them, right click properties>advanced> and turn off the wake feature. Maybe that will help

The problem:

I shut the computer by putting it to the sleep mode. And then, I switch off the lamp on the table, or the bigger lights in the room by using the switch on the wall, or disconnect some device (which is not a part of the computer) from the wall.

... and the computer wakes up as I use the switches or disconnect something!

Somehow the computer is getting a signal from the power circuit to wake up.

How to prevent it?

System specs should be in the profile, ask for a more detailed overview.

Answer:Windows is in sleep, other devices in the room wake it up...

Hello johnmatrix. Welcome to the Forum.

It sounds like you have "dirty power" in your home. This is caused by either unreliable transmission from the electrical utility's supply lines, or improper wiring inside the walls of your home. Most likely a missing ground, an "open neutral", or arcing.

To address your computer, you should use a UPS (Universal Power Supply) connected between the wall and the computer.

But you should have an electrician check out the wiring in your home. Those symptoms are not normal and could be dangerous.

Got my first Windows 8 convertible tablet, running an Intel Clover Trail processor.

Now in Windows 7, I've previously used a simple task ("Morning Alarm") wake me up in the mornings. At 6:50AM daily, run "wmplayer.exe" "Mysong.mp3", with the parameter "Wake the computer to run this task". I'd adjust power options to ENABLE wake timers. Everything worked.

I'd figure I'd do the same thing in Windows 8. Made the task, tested it, no dice. Slept through my first class.

Go into power options -- there is no option for me to allow wake timers.
So, 2 questions:
Is there any way for me to allow wake timers? If not, is there anyway for me to have a morning alarm on my computer? I've downloaded a couple apps, and they don't work, presumably because they rely on wake timers...

EDIT: I should add that I'm letting my computer go to sleep during the night, with the expectation that it will wake itself up and play music in the morning.

Answer:Windows 8 does not allow wake timers?

Hello apasserby. Welcome to Eight Forums.

I don't know if what you need is not on your version.
Wake timers are available on 8 pro.

I have a WINBOOK TW700 tablet running Win-8.1.  The device supports Connected Standby mode rather than Sleep State S3.  However, the Task Scheduler doesn't wake the device at the appointed time even when the "Wake the PC to run this task"
box is checked.  Since S3 isn't supported, there is no Sleep line-item within the Power Options dialog from which to check "Allow Wake Timers."  So my question is this: Is it possible to configure the device so that a scheduled task can
wake the device from Connected Standby and, if so, how do I do that?  Thanks,
cw

I have backups set to wake my laptop when it is plugged in.

However, sometimes I sleep my machine even when plugged in by closing the lid. In that situation, I do not want the wake timers to wake it, because it is likely to get too hot, because the room is warm.

I do not see any way to have wake timers enabled, yet not have them wake the computer when the lid is closed. Anyone know if there is a way to do that?

The only solution I can think of is very involved -- creating a task that is triggered by lid closed.

Can you delete wake timers from the command prompt? I am thinking specifically of wake timers created by Update Orchestrator, which cannot be permanently disabled no matter how many settings you alter (and believe me, I have spent hours and days trying to permanently stop my machine being woken from sleep by this nonsense).

At the moment all I can do is run powercfg -waketimers from an admin prompt before every time I put the machine to sleep, and if I spot a wake timer I then have to rummage around in the task scheduler to find the offending timer and turn off waking yet again for the zillionth time. Ideally I would like to automate this so I can just put the machine to sleep at the touch of a button as if I were dealing with a user-friendly operating system.

Answer:Can you delete wake timers from the command prompt?

I would like to know this as well. I have Wake Timers disabled in Windows 10, but PC keeps waking up from timers.

I've started to have a number of debilitating problems with my lumia 950, which is a shame because they are the same problems that made me leave android for the WP platform. To start off, my phone has been randomly restarting. The restarting seems to have started after the anniversary update version 1607. There's nothing common between one reset to the next, just that they become more frequent as battery life reduces (starts at around 80%). This is also sometimes accompanied by a streak yellow across the screen. I don't know if this is relevant or not.
My second issue, which has been happening the longest, is that the screen will sometimes be completely off when I wake up the phone. I will put the phone into sleep with the power button, and when I wake it up with the power button the screen is black. I know the phone is awake because windows hello will try to sign me in. I have reason to believe that the touch digitizer is also still working. This is fixed either by trying to sleep cycle the phone or by holding down the power button until the phone prompts me to power it off. This seems to wake the screen up. the screen also sometimes wakes up when windows hello signs me in, but this is rare. This problem has become less frequent since the anniversary update.
My third problem is that sometimes the touch digitizer doesn't work on wake. This is similar to my last problem, except that it always goes away by sleep cycling my phone. This problem has also become less prominent ... Read more

It passed my other tests, so I'm keeping it and the next computer I get will probably have both of those features, but for this one, I guess I'll live without, since the network isn't finished to the point where I could actually use it anyway yet.

I have ASUS G72.
Logmein software is able to wake the computer up with On Board Wake up is disabled or enabled in BIOS.

I have also Toshiba L505D.
Logmein software can wake the computer up only if Wake up on LAN is enabled in BIOS.

What is the difference between ASUS BIOS's On Board Wake up option and Toshiba BIOS's Wake up on LAN option?

UPDATE: I found out that ASUS's Option was for diskless boot and using network hard disks as hard disks. Nothing to do with Wake up on LAN.

Answer:Difference Between Wake up on LAN and On Board Wake up on LAN ???

One thing that could make a BIG difference here is the fact one is a PC and the other is notebook. The ATX Form Factor standard for PCs calls for the power supply to deliver +5Vsb standby voltage to various parts of the motherboard, to include the front panel power switch, RAM (for hibernate modes), and various devices (keyboard, mouse, NIC) for such "Wake on...". commands.

A notebook, however, does not have this standby voltage because obviously, it would run down the battery if the charger is not plugged in.

Before upgrading this computer to Win 8.1, I could use the keyboard, mouse or Media Center remote to wake the computer (Vista and Win 7). Now, none of these devices will wake the computer and I can only wake it by pressing the power button.

Also, in the past the wake up would be almost immediate. Now, it shows the post and boot screens, then goes to the logo with spinning dots for a few seconds and finally to the desktop.

Hi,

Hoping someone can help me with this.

I installed 7RC a couple of months ago. Since then whenever my pc sleeps I can not wake it up. It used to wake up fine in XP.

To get it going again I have to cold reboot or pull the plug. When it comes back up everything I was doing is still there, I just have to enter my password.

I think I have all the settings right but if someone could run me through everything that needs to be set I'd be really grateful.

Thanks in advance.

I have win 7 x64 running on a custom built machine. Every now and then the machine freezes up when I try to wake it up from sleep (usually overnight). I have not made changes to make it hybernate. I experienced this again last night and am wondering if I could get some help analyzing this minidump as I don't know how to analyze it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Answer:win 7 won't wake up after sleep

Hello IndianinIA,

I wonder if that was caused by your network driver. Try uninstalling and reinstalling that driver, e1e6032e.sys, and make sure that you get the latest version.

I'm having problems with sleep mode on my new W500. I run Windows Vista Business 64 and everytime it goes into sleep mode (powered or on battery), it does not wake up. The fan starts but that's it. What's causing this?

Answer:Will not wake up from sleep

I did a fresh install today, complete reformat. I installed Windows Vista updates and Lenovo ones too. It still does the same thing. If the computer goes to sleep there is nothing else to do but to power it down by holding the power button for 10 seconds. This is frustrating.

Question: Wake up from Sleep

I have a Q180 and N5902 wireless remote. After putting the Q180 to sleep I wish to wake it from the remote as the Q180 is in an normally out of reach area. I have gone to Device manager for keyboard and mouse and both were checked for "turn on computer from this device". However, I am not able to wake the computer. What is the way to do this?

So it sleeps no bother normally but it seems that if my htpc has woken it with a wol magic packet, it will not go back to sleep , ever unless manually put to sleep. Rebooting and automatic sleep works again. I recently reinstalled windows and have looked atvevery setting I can think of. Including unattended sleep timeoutvin gpedit which I have tried not config and set to one min. Powercfg shows nothing.

Answer:no sleep after wake on lan

I have been searching the internet and it seems that this situation is unique.

To clarify, sleep works fine but if the computer is woken with a magic packet from any source it does not then go back to sleep after inactivity. Even the monitor stays on.

In gpedit I have tried disabling allow applications to prevent sleep under power options with no change.

Anybody got any ideas, this is driving me crackers!

Since installing SP1 my computer has been acting like a one year old. When I put it to sleep at night it keeps waking and then goes to sleep only to wake again. Left untouched it went through this cycle all night. Starts 20 seconds after I put it to sleep and stays on for 2 minutes and then goes to sleep for 20 seconds then wake for two minutes etc etc etc.I disconnected a flash drive that I had in a USB port.
I disabled "wake timers" under Sleep in Power Options
I disabled "allow this device to wake the computer" in the properties of the USB wireless mouse
In the properties for the network adapter under the "Advanced" tab I disabled the "Wake on Settings". That fixed the problem but then I couldn't wake my computer with Logmein and I think Orb is disabled.
Noticed when I went back that there's another tab "Power Control" for network adapter. I disabled "allow this device to wake the computer" and changed the Advanced tab "Wake on setting" to "OS controlled".
Now when I put it to sleep it seems to stay down. I'll update tomorrow if it misbehaves tonight.

Answer:Sleep Wake Sleep Wake

If you think it might be the network card, you can always open a cmd prompt and run powercfg -lastwake to see which device was logged as waking the machine last.

Hi manusdn7 and welcome

The windows memory test does not stress your memory enough to tell, plus it is run from within windows.

You need to run memtestx86

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember that memtest errors can be either memory or bad motherboard slots so you may have to test memory one stick at a time, and the slots with known good memory.

I am using a wake on lan app on my ipod so i can wake my computer from sleep. Im running into a problem though. When i go into configure my network adapter, and go to the power management tab, if "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" is unchecked, the app works, but when the computer comes back on it cant connect to the internet, if it is checked, the app doesnt work, but when the computer turns back on the internet works. Any ideas on how to solve this problem, so the internet will work when it wakes and the app will work, thanks!

Answer:help with sleep / wake on lan

Actually i dont think the internet is working with either setting. After short periods, like 5 minutes or less, the internet still works, but after longer periods, when i wake it the network has limited connectivity or doesnt work entirely.

Question: wake from sleep

hi-i am trying to enable wake my computer from sleep using the keyboard or mouse.i have checked all of the bios settings and neccessary power settings are all enabled.i ran the power-cfg cmd to check if my computer will allow itself to use these, and it stated that i could using s1 setting.however it still wont work.i checked on the internet, and one forum suggested it could be that i should check the option under usb root hub-"allow this device to wake computer from sleep".i cannot check any of these options as the box is grayed out.can anyone help?

Answer:wake from sleep

It may be that one or more devices in your system is/are not compatible with sleep mode, hence those options are greyed out.

Hi group,When my PC (HP Pavilion) goes into "idle" - when I'm not using it - it will not wake back up. I get no video, and sometimes my mouse will not wake up either. When I disconnect my power cord and reconnect the computer, I am able to boot up and things work. The computer works fine as long as I don't let it go to idle. For example, when I shut it down, it will boot up fine the next time. This just started happening recently after two updates: one from Norton, and the other from Quicken. I have no idea whether one of these caused the problem. I keep my PC well-maintained with all the latest updates. I have run the power troubleshooter, as well as the updates troubleshooter, and both detected no problems. Open to any ideas you may have,Thanks,Jeff

I try hitting the power button, nothing. I have to restart, it takes a long time to read the hd's in bios, then when it restarts there is no network connection, so I need to restart again.

no real pattern to this, sometimes I leave the machine on all night and no problems, other times just a couple hours and it happens.

I am also using a wireless mouse/kb if that makes a difference.

Hi guys, srry haven't been to tech support guy for awhile, in case if i miss any information, feel free to remind me
and i'll post it asap.

My laptop is about 2 years old (Acer Aspire 6920), one day like any normal day i was away from my laptop
and it went to sleep. The next time i was using it i tried to wake it up, it froze for around 10 mins, so i tried to
restart it and the next thing i knew it only starts up to "startup repair". Any attempts to access safe mode to
debug the computer has failed and since then the laptop has gone on a loop -->fail to repair in startup repair
--> restart computer again --> running startup repair. So i decided to reinstall the OS.

after reformatting and reinstalling windows 7 to my laptop though, i seem to encounter a similar error. The laptop
seems to work fine although whenever it goes to sleep and i try to wake it up, the screen froze and starts
flashing and the laptop wont work until you restart the computer again. I made my second attempt to reinstall
a new OS to the system and the same error occurred. My laptop has the latest bios and i tried various versions
of drivers for my graphics card (intel 965 chipset) and the problem continues to persist.

I was wondering if there's any program to debug this error or whether this is a hardware error that i can somehow detect.

Thanks!

Hi,
I've been running Windows 7 Ultimate for the better part of a year now. For about the last week or so now, my computer is going in to (what I assume is) sleep mode at the most inopportune moments. No amount of anything will wake the computer from its sleep - not the keyboard, mouse, ethernet activity (which should keep it from falling asleep in the first place) - only a hard reboot will bring my PC back to a state where I can use it.

Some of the things I've tried, so that people don't answer with "change your power plan settings" or some such thing. If it was that easy, I wouldn't be here asking for help. I'll restate that I've been using the same Win7 Ultimate install on the same PC for a year now, and it's only in the last week this has been happening.

Anyways, I have:
Verified all my power plan settings;
Disabled any screen saver;
This is an older desktop, not a laptop, so hibernate and hybrid sleep options are not even present. Nevertheless, I've followed this guide and this one for disabling both.
Used device manager to specify my keyboard, mouse, and ethernet card as "wake up" devices. Also used the command line to manually set these as "wake from any state", only to have them all not work.
Tried changing group policy and eliminating sleep/hibernate from the user group.
As I said, it's only been doing this for a week or so now. All my drivers are current. All my system updates are current. I haven't installed any new software. I was ... Read more

Hello Eight Forums,

New HP Notebook. One month power on. W8.1 64bit

Setup with Classic Shell and Fast Startup Off

Have to decide next week. If I should return for new machine exchange or keep with two known issues.

1) Sleeps on timer okay. Just cannot wake from Sleep. Tap space bar. Black screen goes gray. Times to black.
Noticed ethernet lite not on. Plug is clear plastic with white led normally on and on during startup.

Suspect power to NIC not satisfied so, no wake from Sleep. Have to force shutdown. Startup is normal. Forced shutdown is not flagged prompting startup options.

2) igfx Tray Module has stopped working pops dialog box on some startups.

HP and I have been round and round. HP wants me to contact Microsoft. We all know that's not fun. HP is bad enough. Always leaving remote session with machine worse for the experience.

HP went through settings and drivers. HP un-installed, re-installed over-installed and updated drivers till they were exhausted. Using HP Support Assistant and pulling soft paks from HP.com.
Then came the requisite System Recovery. Then came more BS.

Yesterday, after a Device Manager graphics driver un-install / install. Windows Update offered it's two cents with an Intel HD Graphics update.

I can return to Staples for new same machine. No harm. No foul. No cost. New warranty period.

Machine worked no issues afaik for two weeks. Then BIOS and UEFI manual pull updates via HP Support Assistant. No issues.... Read more

Hi Guys/Gals

Never use sleep function but last night instead of selecting shutdown hit sleep by mistake. Couldn't get system to wake from sleep and had to turn off by holding power button.

Today when switching system back on i get fan & case lights on , hdd and dvd activity. The keyboard is unresponsive (no lights) and monitor remains in stand by. Mouse gets power but doesn't wake pc.

Using reset or power button on case just restarts system to exact condition above.

Can't contact pc manufacturer til monday (pc 4 months old). Read quite a few other posts regarding vista sleep issues but haven't found anything that would seem to rectify this problem.

Any comments/tips gratefully recieved

Answer:Can't Wake PC From Sleep

Well I'm a beginner but I had a lesser important case than yours. I found you interupt a process of sleep if you try to wake it before about 5 seconds. Anyway, there are a couple of things you can try.

Unplug the power cord and plug it back in.

Pull out the wall socket thingy and put it back in.

Try doing something like booting into safe mode if you can.
The pc maybe still functioning but the monitor can't interact with it. Once you try to boot it, keep pressing F8 for about 10 seconds and then press enter. See if anything happens.

Could also be a shortcircut or something. Other people have had a similar problem.

I have a new computer with Vista Home Basic. If I set it to "sleep" for short periods there is no problem. The power button light flashes and if I press the button the PC resumes where I left off. However if I leave it in sleep mode for a long time, eg overnight, the PC will not awake and I have to turn the mains power off and on and reboot. The PC suppliers say that with modern computers and programs sleep should not be used for long periods. Seems strange. If I want to continue in the morning where I left off in the evening what can I do? Should I use hybernate? How does that work?

Answer:Sleep - can't wake up!

It may be considered unwise to leave your PC on for long periods when unused. The PC is still `live` electrically and is using power, still `warm` and accessible. As a result, there is the risk of damage from electrical power `spikes`, perhaps fire could result and of course it is not particularly `green`.Whether there is a real problem with it not resuming after long periods of inactivity or whether this is a `feature` of the OS I have no idea. But, it would seem reasonable for it to resume unless there is some form of software problem; bad graphics drivers have been known to cause this kind of anomaly in XP.

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has had this problem before?

My computer was put to sleep earlier on today, and I moved the mouse to turn it back on. The power light went from orange (sleep mode) to blue (powered on). Nothing was displayed on the machine. Bashed some buttons, nothing happened, so did a hard reboot.

The power button went red (which happens if I hard reboot it) then to blue but that's it. The fans and hard drive starts going, but no beeps, no POST, no display. Nothing.

Already, I've tried:

- Reseating my RAM sticks - nothing
- Unplugging the hard drive - bf actually broke a sata slot, although he says it was lose before. The pins are not straight now and I can't get the black slot back onto the mobo. Plugged hard drive into sata 2 slot, still get no reaction.

Anything else I can try?

I have a 4 yr old custom built desktop upgraded from Win 7 pro to Win 10 pro about 8 months ago. Up until two weeks ago the sleep/wake up has worked perfect. Now the unit will not wake from sleep. I have tried everything I have seen and nothing has worked. It has to be booted from sleep. I have now set sleep time to never and will shut the unit down at night rather than letting it go to sleep. Anybody have anything new that I could try. Is MS working on this???

Answer:will not wake from sleep

Win 10 pro installed on a Desktop computer. Like so many I have experienced the problem with the Sleep option not allowing the computer to Wake. Nothing I have tried has done anything to change this, so I decided to not use the Sleep and to just Shut Down when I am not using the computer. It seems that the Shut Down option does the same thing as Sleep. They both put the computer in a state where it will not Wake up. The only options are to hold the Power button until the computer completely shuts down, or to hit the reset button. Now when I do a normal Shut Down I am then holding the Power Button to completely Shut Down the computer. This is totally ridiculous. Is anyone working on a solution to these problems? I also have a Laptop with Win 10 installed that is doing the same thing with Sleep and Shut Down.

My main system has Windows7 and I have an HP Proliant Microserver with Windows Home Server 2011 (probably irrelvant) and Wake on LAN hardware. The server is "off" right now, but the LAN activity light is blinking, so the LAN card has retained power (for the W-o-L function).

Do I have all I need to wake the server from my desktop, or do I need to install extra software (to send the "magic packet", to wake the server). If I need 3rd party software, then what is recommended?

I've tinkered with WoL during my professional IT career, but never really had much serious use for it, but now I have systems of my own, I'm more interested in getting it working.

Answer:Wake server with Wake on LAN

It has been a long time since I played with WoL. You might already have what you need to send that "magic packet", but this little 3rd party tool might be easier to use:

My computer will awake from sleep if it's in it for a short period of time. If it's been in sleep mode for a few hours, it won't wake up. I tried moving/clicking the mouse, pressing buttons on the keyboard. It won't even reboot/reset from the power on switch or the reset button. The only way to get it out of sleep is if I go and flip the power supply switch off and then on.

Answer:Windows 7 won't wake from sleep

Greetings, jkman.

You might try Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings - look at the settings there, such as Hard disk, Sleep, USB, etc., see if you can disable anything that appears to affect your symptoms.

My computer will awake from sleep if it's in it for a short period of time. If it's been in sleep mode for a few hours, it won't wake up.Click to expand...

That leads me to believe that there might be some extended power setting that's causing the freeze.

Hello members,

I was wondering how to wake my laptop from sleep using my Bluetooth Logitech K810 keyboard.
Currently, through Device Manager, I do have "Allow this device to wake computer" checked through Power Management for both the keyboard itself and HID Keyboard Device.

What's odd is that I also have my Logitech MX Performance connected via 2.4Ghz and I have the "Allow this device to wake computer" unchecked, but only my mouse wakes my laptop from sleep.

So overall, I disabled my mouse from waking up my laptop and I have enabled my keyboard to wake my laptop from sleep. But the opposite occurs.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Answer:How do I Wake PC from Sleep using Keyboard

You wouldn't be able to have the Bluetooth keyboard wake the system because Windows needs to be running in order for the keyboard to work. Windows is what makes the connection using Bluetooth. So, if it is in Sleep, it wouldn't be able to wake it. The mouse has its own connection to the mouse without the need of software so it is like it is physically connected and therefor it would be able to wake it.

I hope this makes sense

-Ben

Since about 2 days ago, my PC gives me a BSOD after I resume from sleep, and I can't figure out how to read the dump, so can someone please explain what is wrong?

Answer:BSOD after wake from sleep

Both the crash dumps are pointing to NVIDIA High Definition Audio.

As you have onboard Realtek, you should not use ndidia audio. Let Realtek play the lead role there.
Uninstall All nvidia items in Control Panel > Programs and features3D Vision Control Driver
3D Vision Driver
Graphics Driver
HD Audio Driver
GeForce Experience
PhysX
nvidia Update
(Are you using nvidia chipset drivers? If so, dont uninstall anything other than those are listed).
Now follow Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling
Download 314.22 WHQL. While installing, Select Custom (Advanced) install. In the next page, follow this settings:
For more details about a trouble free display driver installation, follow it: NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems

Now wait and observe how the computer works. Let us know for any further BSOD.

System built in Jan. 2011, running like a charm then I recently had problems with Win7-64, corruption of .net 3.5.1 and had to reinstall. During installation at the drive selection I selected c: which is my SSD, a Kingston. I notice 100 MB reserved on disk and didn't touch it. Reinstall went fine but system was not stable. I reinstalled Win 7 again. At the same screen I selected to delete that 100 MB reserved disk space, tried format C:, didn't do anything so I rebooted with command prompt and formatted C: /FS:NTFS then proceeded to install again. It all went fine and the system works perfectly except for the fact that now I am getting BSOD when it wakes up after sleep mode. This happens every time. I am attaching my minidump and I am looking forward to hearing back from you. I am available to provide any other information that may help.

Thanks in advance,

If I install the "F6" drivers via the Device Manager, Bluetooth won't wake up after the computer has been put to sleep. If I install the drivers via the .exe installation bundle, it seems that Qualcomm installs a background process named "Extension Core" (BtvStack.exe) which wakes up the Bluetooth adapter after the computer wakes up.

Problem is, the .exe installation package includes both wifi and Bluetooth drivers, and the wifi drivers have issues when installed via the .exe - as a result, I have to install those using the "F6" drivers. So I'm stuck in a situation where working wifi means broken Bluetooth and vice versa

Lenovo ThinkPad giving me a few different BSODs. It primarily occurs when I wake the laptop from sleep/hibernate. It has, upon occasion, happened at random while sitting in the Windows kernel desktop as well.

I have 17 DMP files but am still working on getting things uploaded.

Would greatly appreciate from someone more knowledgeable than I.

Hi - I have a yoga 700 which I can't get to wake with the keyboard or mouse. I have to use the power button and keep accidentally rebooting (at least I hope that's what's happening, otherwise I have a random rebooting problem).    Things I've already done/checked - -the control panel settings-the device manger; neither keyboard nor touchpad has the power management tab -the usb hub has an option re allowing the wake from sleep, but it's grayed out; also, my keyboard/mouse aren't usb-the bios also doesn't have a power management tab-tried enabling via command line, got an error message that I didn't have proper permissions; made sure I opened command window as admin Any other ideas????

This problem was present from the beginning: After leaving the computer for awhile (hours), it won't wake up; the computer is running; light indicators are lit; on/off button lit; but does not respond to typing, using mouse, and the on/off button is not responsive, even if pushed continuously.  Only unplugging and plugging back in of the power cord shuts down the computer and then it has to be re-booted.  Obviously, this is getting old very quickly!  Is there a solution??  Thank you.

Answer:BSOD on Wake from Sleep

1. Old drivers
Please update drivers - old drivers are notorious for BSOD.

Quote:
osaio.sys Wed Feb 14 22:20:09 2007
Likely a component of Intel desktop utility
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

speedfan.sys Mon Sep 25 02:26:48 2006
Update Speedfan - if there is no update available, uninstall Speedfan.
Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

2. Daemon Tools/Alcohol 120% and Sptd.sys
I suggest that you uninstall Daemon Tools/Alcohol 120%. It uses a driver, found in your dump, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads Select Uninstall; DO NOT SELECT reinstall.

Here is a free alternative CD virtualization program that does not use the sptd.sys driver.
Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview

Uninstall sptd.sys, and take care of the two drivers. Reboot and see how your system does. Post back and let us know. If you get another BSOD, upload it and we will go from there.

New to tenforums. I work in the forestry field. We utilize Dell tablets running Windows 10 anniversary edition (10.0.14393 N/A Build 14393).These devices are used to collect data in the forest. We are collecting data for 6 to 8 hours at a time. The Dell tablets last this long if we set them to sleep mode in between actual data collection. Therefore, the tablets are constantly being put to sleep and woken from sleep (by pressing the power button). The tablets are set so that a login password is not needed when waking from sleep. But with the new anniversary edition we now have to swipe away the login screen even though a password is not required. You know the one... the one with the pretty photos. This is hugely annoying when you are trying to efficiently enter data. When you are being rained on or eaten by insects these photos, no matter how pretty, are not appreciated. I've tried to turn this "feature" off but no luck. Can anyone help? On a further note... can anyone explain the rationale behind the new login screen? There is a time and place to look at pretty photos and its not while we are working. Thanks in advance.

Hello, i have a problem with my Win10 system 1607 Ver
When the system goes sleep, my keyboard and mouse got disabled but the power lights still works, so i need to push the restart or shutdown button to restart the system to make the wake up.
How can i make that the keyboard and mouse get worked by clicking on them and wake up the system instead of pushing restart or power button?
Sorry for my English.

Answer:Windows 10 does not wake up after sleep

It is an overly discussed topic about the S3 sleep state. If your bios is not set for Legacy USB devices, the OS is allowed to shut down the USB hub, wireless mouse and keyboard. You are going to have problems waking the system out of S3 state.

Hi,

I am helping a relative with an HP notebook running a fully patched version of Windows 7, Home Premium. The notebook will go to sleep but will not wake up.

I started working my way through your tutorial over on the Vista Forum (How to Troubleshoot a Vista or Windows 7 Sleep Mode Problem) and I set the Advanced Power Options to the Hybrid Sleep settings you defined based on the Powercfg command saying that only S3 was available on the system (not sure if this was correct option to choose from the three presented, but that is how I set the options). The settings changes did not fix the wake-up problem, so I continued down your script.

I got to section on running the various Powercfg commands (see dump of Powercfg commands and results below) and through this determined that there are none of the expected wake-up devices listed in the results, such as the notebook's keyboard, the notebook's touchpad or the external (wireless) mouse. The power switch does not wake-up the computer either.

I then started to check in Device Manager to see if these devices had a Power Management tab that would allow me to enable them to wake-up the computer. None of the devices had power management tabs on their properties pages. I also checked the USB hubs: these had power management tabs but the option to enable wake-up was greyed out.

I have not been able to check the BIOS yet as I am in Canada and my relative is in England. I will checked this out when I can arrange a time my relativ... Read more

Answer:Why can't I wake up my laptop once it goes to sleep?

One of the users in the forums have reported that the probable cause of that problem is the screen saver. Try disabling the screen saver and see if that stops the issue.

Dear all, First time posting here. Being bugged with this problem for quite long. When i leave my notebook on which is a HP Pavilion dm4-1106tx Entertainment Notebook PC it goes to sleep as usual, however after a long period of time when i try wake it up by tapping any keys on the keyboard and moving or clicking the mouse the display will never come up.  What i noticed is that the capslock key and the HP logo on the back of the screen will blink no matter what i do will not bring up the display, last resort is to unplug the power cable, flip over the notebook and remove the battery and after few seconds put the battery back on, restart the notebook and windows 7 will say system did not shutdown properly...... i will select the normal restart. Unplugging the battery seems to be the only way for me to reset the notebook. I absolutely no clue what is wrong with it....Anyone has any idea please let me know the solution... Thank you.

After my H50 machine goes into sleep mode, moving the mouse eliminates the screen saver back to the main screen, however, none of the programs work, at this point.   The open programs are all condensed on the taskbar.  When i hover the mouse over the task bar icons, I see the running programs and screens, but clicking on them does not activate the program into the larger screen.    I've had this problem right out of the box since I bought the computer several weeks ago. I end up shutting down the computer and restarting to get my programs to work again. Any ideas?

I was waking my computer up after it went into sleep mode. It ran for a few seconds, long enough to see that Adobe Flash Professional CS6 had stopped responding. Before I could click End Task, I got a blue screen. I have attached the zip created from the dm log collector as instructed. If I am missing anything else, let me know. I recently updated all the hardware in my computer and added a new SSD which is now the primary boot device. I kept the old hard drive unchanged as storage and still run everything from that.

Answer:BSOD on wake from sleep

Welcome to Seven Forums Batosai33.
Enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier -Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information

Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning

Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point Manually before enabling DV.

   Tip
If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of enabling DV again.
If you cannot boot in Safe mode too, do a System Restore to a point you made earlier.

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

Hi, I recently purchased a used t410s and did a clean reinstall for windows 7. I've put on most necessary drivers and I keep having some issues with sleep mode. When I put it to sleep via hotkey or closing the lid, most of the time it won't wake up. It blinks the hdd, power button and even tries to start/check the empty dvd-rom, fails after 1/2sec and nothing, it tries again after several seconds, keeps failing. This loop ends when I force shut it down with the power button and restart. all-in-all, it looks exactly like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48Mi4tqUaZcI've read other boards about that laptop, but found no solution. I tried another clean install with only necessary drivers but nothing. Hi

I've been searching for a while now trying to resolve this problem. There are loads of threads and I've tried loads of solutions like uninstalling and reinstalling drivers etc.

The situation I have is that Windows will sleep and wake perfectly fine if I use the remote that came with my TV tuner card but nothing else. If I try to wake it using the wireless USB keyboard I have it appears to power up but nothing happens. The power light goes from flashing to soluid but there doesn't appear to be any other movement. Equally when Windows Media Centre tries to wake to record it does the same thing.

Are there any suggestions of what I can try and what should I look at (and / or post here) to try and help debug?

Thank you in advance
Dean

hi, ive had my pc 3 years now and up untill xmas all was sweet as a nut but then it started to refuse to wake from sleep around 50% of the time..

i use sleep mainly so i can start it from my iphone and play itunes without having to go upstairs and wait for it to boot and as i say up untill xmas all was well

ive done virus checks, spybot and malwarebytes but nothing solves it

i did take the case panel off and noticed the graphic card didnt seem to be working (fan was stationary) and 2 red lights were on

normal boot from cold is fine (if a little slow)

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

ps, this booting from sleep is getting worse all the time and i would guess its around 75% failure right now

if this helps if i put it to sleep and try and awaken straight away its 100% failure, and if i leave it for 24 hours its the same, try and boot after a few hours has a better chance of booting

I have Windows 10 installed and after I leave it for a while, it goes to sleep. A large percentage of the time (though not always) I am not able to wake it.

I've gone through power management and told it NOT to turn off display and NOT to put the computer to sleep.

Still, it does, and can't be woken.

Why is it still sleeping even though I told it never to do so?

Answer:Machine goes to sleep, can wake it

Looks like there are lots of these on this forum, but others are suggested to start their own thread, so here is mine.

I get a BSOD just about every time I try to wake my Win7 x64 HTPC up from sleep. I tried disabling hybrid sleep and various power-saving features in the BIOS (c1e, CnQ) to no avail. I see there's a sticky about large HDDs causing this type of issue, but I never get to see the actual BSOD screen STOP message because of the way my HDTV behaves. My system drive is a 1TB WD Green.

Can someone take a look at the minidumps?

Answer:BSOD on wake from sleep

The dump files seem to point to components of the Windows networking sub-system.
As such, the first thing to suspect is your networking drivers.
Please download the latest version of your networking drivers from the website of the manufacturer of the network device (NOT the PC Manufacturer, Windows Update, or the Update drivers feature of Device Manager).
Then uninstall the current version that's on your system - then install the freshly downloaded version.
Then monitor for further BSOD's

Here's a summary of the dump files:

I know there has to be a simple fix to this but I'm banging my head against the wall right now trying to figure this out. Everytime my PC goes to sleep I'll press a button on my keyboard or move my mouse and it will wake up just fine, but the monitor won't wake up. I've also noticed that the backlight on my keyboard doesn't show up. I've tried different monitors and removed the VGA cable from the graphics card after waking up and plugged it back in and no video. I have to reboot the computer to get video again and everything works great.. until it goes into sleep mode again. I have updated my graphics card driver (Geforce GT 210) and still no fix. I haven't made any changes that would cause this. Someone has to know something about this. Thanks in advance for any help!

There is a similar post on this forum, but it does not answer my problem. Here's the issue: I bought my T440s about two weeks ago. I had Windows 7 Pro installed at the factory. From day 1, when I close the lid or enter sleep mode from the start menu, the computer will not wake up. Open the lid, press a key, press the power button, nothing happens. I can hold the power button and completely shut it down, at which time it tells me that windows shut down unexpectedly. This happens every single time. I called Lenovo Tech support. After doing several things (check Bios, reinstalling drivers, reinstalling power management, etc) the problem persisted. The support staff said that it "must be a problem with the image" and is sending me some Windows 7 recovery disks. This seems to be a major problem. From even a cursory Google search, there are many people who have experienced this with the new ThinkPads. This is my 4th Lenovo computer, and I've never had anything like this happen. Can someone from Lenovo address this? Waking from sleep is a simple laptop function.

Answer:T440s will not wake from sleep

And yes, I've uninstalled the fingerprint software, completely. The problem persists.

Relatively minor issue, but annoying. I have my computer set to shut off my monitors (2xDell U2412M) after 20 minutes of inactivity. Which it does, except that then they immediately turn back on and only on the second 20 minute interval do they actually stay off.

Both are connected by DVI to a Radeon R9 270 video card. The same monitors and cables I was using on a previous system with a GeForce 550 Ti without this issue.

I've tried updating the Catalyst drivers, scouring the Catalyst and Windows settings looking for anything that might explain this. Initially the "Alternate DVI operation mode" was checked in the Catalyst drivers, so I undid that for both displays, no change. Not using GPU image scaling, monitors are at their native resolution, I'm dubious that it's some kind of program activity since they shut off and stay off the second time around and I haven't been using my computer in all that time. This is on an 8.1 system with all the latest patches as of today. Everything looks perfect, no graphical distortions or artifacts, and 1920x1200 is easily within the reach of DVI. So I've got nothing when it comes to explaining why this is happening, but maybe someone else out there does.

Answer:Monitor Wake After Sleep

Did you check in the monitor's menu if it has some of it's own power saving features. ? I had similar problems with one of my monitors, turning it off helped.
