Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Question: Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

Preferred Solution: Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.
To download Network Monitor, please refer to the link below:

This Windows 7 PC recently had an infection. I've run Malwarebytes and a few other things, and the infection seems to be gone. However, an issue remains:

When attempting to browse with Internet Explorer, any URL I request (www.google.com, www.yahoo.com) gives an error page that says, "The proxy server isn't responding." The given proxy address is pointing at localhost. I am able to browse in Firefox, but I need Internet Explorer to work as well.

I cannot disable the "Use proxy server for your LAN" setting under Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN settings.

I do not have the knowledge to resolve this problem. Please help. Thank you.

Answer:Can I get Internet Explorer 11 for Windows Server 2012 ?

Hi,

As I known, Internet Explorer 11 is preinstalled with Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. No additional action is required.

If you plan to run IE 11 on Windows server 2012, it won?t be supported. Internet Explorer 11 is not available for download for on Windows Server 2012.

For more information, you may refer to:

?Internet explorer? message in windows server 2012,

I?m wondering why the attached messages appear each time any software is launched in windows server 2012.

How to stop having these messages?

Thank you

Best

Jamal

Answer:“Internet explorer” message in windows server 2012,

Which other programs do these messages appear in,
Obviously this particular program relies on an Internet connection and accessing a database on the site which not many programs I know of do this ?
Your screen shots exclude your taskbar,
You might try holding down the Ctrl key when you click to open this program and see what effect it has,
Or right click it and click on Run as administrator when you open it.

Also see the links above my signature picture/ Fill in your system spec's sheet, add which security suite you use.

Hello
My Server, running 2012 R2 Standard, has to use Internet Explorer (Version 11 installed), to perform various browsing tasks on a regular basis.
Both automated and manual browsing between URL's randomly stops working and displays nothing but a white page. The only way to fix it is to quit IE and reopen, which slows the process down massively.
I have all addons disabled. I have tried resetting everything back to default. I have also disabled GPU rendering.
Any suggestions on what is going on? For reference, the exact same automation took place on Server 2008 R2 previously with no issues - I don't understand what could be the problem here but assume it is something Server 2012 related.
Thanks
Matthew

Hi,
Uninstall Chrome,
Then Reset Internet explorer and see if the issue repeats,
See a tutorial here to Reset Internet explorer,

Hi everyone,

Here is my issue, my computer is functioning ok except for internet explorer. I am able to google and search things but when I try to enter a number of different sites (such as the malwarebytes download page) I receive a message that says "the proxy server isn't responding." "Check your proxy settings 127.0.0.1:8877." When I go into internet options --> Connections----> Lan Settings, the "user proxy server for your lan" is checked and greyed out. I have run malwarebytes which did not fix the issue. Someone mentioned checking a proxy setting in regedit which was set to 1, when I change it to 0 as I was recommended, It did not fix the issue and simply reverted to 1. Im not sure if that is relevant at all but this issue is quite frustrating and any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, running Windows 7 x64 SP1 notebook, noticed Windows Update failed and found Internet Explorer LAN proxy server settings had been modified to: 127.0.0.1:8888 which appears to be some form of malware/trojan/virus.

I was able to add Windows Update exceptions to proxy settings and temporarily remove the changes which allowed Windows Update to function properly but the proxy settings in IE were modified again on reboot.

Avast and Malwarebytes don't pick up anything, rebooted in Safe Mode and removed the proxy settings again which hasn't changed again upon reboot but would like to be sure I am clear of or don't have any other infections. I don't have an issue with Firefox which is my default browser.

Hiya
This is a spoofing vulnerability that exists in the affected products and that could enable an attacker to spoof trusted Internet content. Users could believe they are accessing trusted Internet content when in reality they are accessing malicious Internet content, for example a malicious Web site. However, an attacker would first have to persuade a user to visit the attacker’s site to attempt to exploit this vulnerability.
Affected Software:

• Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1
• Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 Service Pack 2

Note The following software programs include Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 (ISA Server 2000). Customers using these software programs should install the provided ISA Server 2000 security update.

• Microsoft Small Business Server 2000

• Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition

various Microsoft documents, I realize that IE 11 is not supported on Server 2012.  However, we need to be able to run QuickBooks, which requires that version of IE.  Upgrading the server OS to 2012 R2 would take hours, because there is no in-place
upgrade option.  We would have to reinstall and configure the OS again from scratch.
Is there anything we can do to resolve this problem?
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

We have a situation where we have a number of users running IE 11 on Windows 7 , 8 and 8.1. When using Google Maps. The maps fail to render and show the
grid lines when zooming in and scrolling across. When I untick 'Use Proxy Server' in Windows Internet Settings, maps will work fine. We use TMG server for a proxy. Maps works in Chrome as expected.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am still having issues with the proxy server settings for Google Crome and Internet Explorer. I have completed all of the steps in resetting the settings and everything else that the blog suggested, http://malwaretips.com/blogs/the-proxy-server-isnt-responding-removal/#proxy, but I am still having issues with both Google Crome and Internet Explorer, and Firefox is not working as well as it used to. Please help.

Answer:The Proxy server isn't responding for Internet Explorer and Google Crome still after resetting...

Scan with ZOEK

Please download ZOEK by Smeenk and save it to your desktop (preferred version is the *.exe one)
Temporary disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware protection - instructions here.
Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
Wait patiently until the main console will appear, it may take a minute or two.
In the main box please paste in the following script:

Code:

createsrpoint;
Quickscan;
autoclean;
emptyalltemp;
ipconfig /flushdns;b
Make sure that Scan All Users option is checked.
Push Run Script and wait patiently. The scan may take a couple of minutes.
When the scan completes, a zoek-results logfile should open in notepad.
If a reboot is needed, it will be opened after it. You may also find it at your main drive (usually C:\ drive)

I appear to be the victim of some piece of malware or virus that has added a proxy server setting that I am unable to get rid of. The main symptoms are that I am unable to change my proxy server settings in Windows 10. It appears to use this setting http=127.0.0.1:8080;. The result of this is that I am unable to do searches in the omnibar of Google Chrome (just takes me to a blank page) and I can't visit certain webpages, also if I am able to do a Google search the "Search Tools" button is missing.

I looked around on the internet and have tried a few fixes, I've deleted or changed the registry entries mentioned in Philip Turner's reply here: https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/446898-can-t-disable-proxy-in-ie10?page=1

I also changed the entry mentioned here: https://fixedit.itxpress.biz/2014/10/08/unable-to-disable-windows-proxy-setting/

Making these changes allowed me to change the proxy server settings and once I change "Automatically detect settings" to on and "Use a a proxy server" to off then the issue is fixed and everything behaves normally.

The problem is, once I restart my computer the settings revert back and are again unable to be changed unless I delete/change all the above registry entries again. I'm pretty sure that whatever did this is still on my computer somewhere and I need some help finding and eliminating it. Either that, or there is still some hidden registry entry that I am unable to find.

Question: Proxy server issue

Hey all, got a stumper that needs fresh ideas!

At work this afternoon our proxy server stopped providing internet and email access.

End users can't connect to their email because they get a POP3 error, one of the protocols that the proxy server provides. Same thing with their internet access - "proxy server is refusing connections".

The network itself is fine - I can ping every segment (every router, every hub, every switch) and the proxy server itself. The proxy can also be bypassed - allowing internet access. Not a feasible solution though.

The email services are all running. Both network cards are sending and receiving. The proxy server itself is connected to the internet. Email is being collected, run through our filters, and supposedly sent on its way. On the surface, everything seems to be fine....Yet no end user going through the proxy can get outside onto the internet or access the server's email portion.

Right now we're running a virus scan which will take hours to finish. Meanwhile, my shift ended and I went home - My manager can deal with it now.

I don't suspect it to be a virus or anything running in the background. Theres nothing fishy in the running processes and CPU and memory utilization appears normal. I was about to start powercycling network devices between the proxy and the rest of the network, but that seemed like a bad idea.

Question: proxy server issue

Iam doing r& d on email headers,i want to trace an ip ad of the sender,so i change my firefox proxy server setting to 200.55.48.12 and port 8080 this is the proxy server ip ad, actual my public ip ad is 202.45.25.41.

But when i send an email ad from yahoo to gmail and when i check the email headers ,the ip ad of the sender is similar to my public ip ad even though i had change it to proxy server.

when we set our computer to proxy server and when we visit some website, the webserver see the proxy ip ad and not our real ip ad.

so then when i check the email headers it shows the real ip ad and not the proxy ip ad.

so what would be the reason.

Answer:proxy server issue

i have been caught in a scandal recently concerning all of this mess and what i learned is that whenever u send an email, it will ALWAYS show your public ip, meaning the ip that the isp has provided you with, and neeeeeever your browsers ip for security purposes. imagine if everyone could send an email using a randomized ip address in their explorer's settings, they would never be caught if they are harassing people by sendind emails!

Question: Proxy server issue

Morning. IDK if this is where I am suppose to post this. My laptop was FINE yesterday and then all of a sudden I wasn't able to connect to the internet. I rebooted it, i redid my wireless routers. Those are fine cause my phone can connect, and my husbands laptop can connect as well. Mine will not. It is asking for Proxy Authentication Proxy server 0.0.0.0:0 and then asking for username and PW, which i don't have either, its my HOME laptop. I tried the LAN setting and making sure the Proxy thing was unchecked it is... so now idk. Its not working. I read that I should uninstall IE and re install it, but I don't have internet. This is really frustrating. Can someone help?

Not too long ago I got a copy of Server 2012 from one of the student programs at my university. I decided to use it as an opportunity to learn a bit more about Server as well as setup an HTPC. That probably wounldn't be the OS I would normally go with, but since I had it I gave it a shot. Everything went off without a hitch. I was able to utilize the storage spaces to combine about 8 TB worth of drives into a virtual disk.

My system ran like this for a while. I mounted that virtual disk to X: and so I had my C:and X: drives.....C: being utilized as a boot drive. It was partitioned and the rest of the space was being used in the 8tb storage space and mounted to X: This has been running for about 4 months without an issue. I was using this server as central storage for all the PCs in the house. This morning I was downloading files to it using Sabnzb and I noticed that Sab would pause. after reading some logs it showed that it got a CRC error. At first I thought Sab was talking about the files that I was downloading, but then I noticed other files also started to have the same issue. I determined that this was an issue with a storage device somewhere.

I rebooted my server and when it came back up some Windows updates were coming down the pipe. I let those finish and when I logged in and went to my computer, my C: and X: drive was listed but the X: drive showed no data. As if no drives were attached to it. I opened up Server Manager and took a look at the "Files/Stora... Read more

Answer:Server 2012 Storage Issue

Did you use a parity space, or just lump everything together in a big disk? If you used a big disk, you might have a drive that is going on the fritz. I'd make sure smart is on and use a tool to check each of the drives.

When you say virtual disk -- you're not saying that you created a big VHDx file across the disks and mounted it, right? You just created a storage space and mounted it as X:?

Hi everyone.

Looking for some suggestions/recommendations...

We have one of our .NET web applications running in one of our clients proxy server environments. Our client has reported back to us that they seem to get "page can not be displayed" errors when they navigate through our web application. Please note that this does not happen to all users, just a few users and it appears to be intermittent.

We have tested this through our internal environment as well as from other external environments and we do not get this error. Furthermore, all of our other clients do not have this issue.

Our development team has released a patch to try and address this issue, but this one client seems to still get this error.

If any members in here who have experience with .NET and proxy servers can offer any suggestions/recommendations, that would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm trying to help a friend to get their Windows Server 2012 Essentials setup up in their small business.

Server is operational, but I'm having issues connecting PCs to it...

I'm able to get to the server page by going to http://(servername)\connect
I can download the connector software, when I run it it finds the server it ask for user name and password.

After entering info it tries to connect for 20-60 seconds and fails with:

Cannot coonect this computer to the network
The Server is not available. Try connecting this computer again, or for more information, see troubleshooting connecting computers to the server.

any idea what could be causing?

could this be caused by network issues? They are using ATT DSL for internet access, with a ATT model, that is referred to as "gateway.pace.com"

They also have a zyxel smart switch, it seems that both ATT DSL and Zyxel switch are acting as DHCP, and both might be issuing IP addresses.

Another thing I noticed that they are using IP phones for all office phones.
All PCs are connected to the network with an IP phone as a device in the middle, that seems be slowing down the phones from normal gigabit to 10/100 only.

Any help would be grateful.

Hey there,

As often said...long time lurker. Recently installed a copy of WS2012 Datacenter I received to play with and learn more about. I have pretty much zero Windows Server background knowledge (I don't count WHS...which I have running as well).

So, my question...I created a Storage Pool, and then a couple Volumes, and then Shares.

My embarrassing noob question...how do I access these Shares?

I can locate the server on my network, and know the IP address of it.

I created a User account so that I don't need to use the Admin account for general use.

My goal:
Access the Share I created from my MacBook Air so that I can read/write files from it.

Thanks in advance for tolerating my WS "noobness."

Answer:Accessing Windows Server 2012 Server Pool Shares

Not sure how to access it from a mac, but on a windows box you can just run \\%servername%\%sharename% and it'll launch it in an explorer window. Should be some sort of network browser on the mac to allow you to type in the unc.

.. hoping I can get some help on this. Driving me nuts!

Since upgrading to Windows Server 2016, WOL doesn't work for me. I've ruled out network or router issues, since it works perfectly fine on my Windows 7 machine.

I have 3 NICs in a team, but that's irrelevant, since the WOL doesn't work even if I disabled the teaming. One thing I did notice is that when I shutdown my Windows 7 machine, the NICs remain lit. However, the NICs on my Windows Server 2016 completely turn off. I don't recall if that was the case when I was using 2012 on the same hardware, but it seems strange to me. If the NICs are completely off, I can't imagine there is a way for them to receive magic packets.

I checked the UEFI and all the necessary options are enabled for WOL. I also tried upgrading the NIC drivers on the server but that didn't help. I read that Windows 10 has a "fast startup" option that messes with WOL, so I disabled it in the Group Policy settings on the server, but that didn't work either.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be grateful for the help.

I'm on an HP AMD A6-4400M APU laptop that now runs on Windows 8.1, with 8 GB, and a 64-bit OS with an x64-based processor.

My issue just turned up tonight for me when I tried to go online that I've never seen before. That message was "The proxy server isn't responding" when I used Firefox. A similar one came up in IE. After doing the Read & Run Me, I'm able to get online with Firefox, but the problem still persists in IE.

I don't think I'm anywhere in the clear even if it was working fine as I had a page open up on me after using Roguekiller that mentioned rootkit. As instructed by the Read & Run Me guide, I ran the five scans and obtained their logs.

Let's see what I've gone and done wrong to the computer this time around.

1. Control the internet usage by allowing required websites.
2. Internet access must be monitored and reported.
3. Report internet activity of employees using laptops when they are traveling.

Hi VS, welcome to sevenforums. An ideal solution would be from Untangle .com Multi-functional Firewall Software - Open Source Content Filter & Spam Filter | Untangle.com Go for the "Lite" version initially as it is free (can't beat free!!) then if you need further facilities, you can expand as required.

Answer:Linux Internet Proxy Server

Assuming you already have set up the internet connection on the server..

To share the internet connection you have to set up IP masquerading. If you need proxying too, set up Squid.

Doing either of these is not trivial and explaining it would need a full-length guide which I am not goin g to write. You can search the web for those keywords for some guides and howtos.

I'm a little nervous about doing anything too crazy on my own, so figured I'd give you my rundown to see if anyone would be willing to help. I'm halfway computer literate, so I can figure some things out, but bare with me.Dell XPS, Netgear wireless router, Windows XP My internet wouldn't connect by main computer, but my iPod would with the wireless router. I figured out that the box was checked on Use a Proxy server for your LAN, so I unchecked it. I also found a couple startup menu items (I frequently check these on sysinfo, org), I found ctfmon, conhost, msmsgs and csrss that should not have been there, and removed them from there. Then I: 1. Ran SuperAntiSpyware2. Ran McAfee Anti-virus3. Went to Miscrosoft webiste and ran the Free PC safety scan. This is where it found 4 things, one being Backdoor:Win32/Cycbot.B It removed and I restarted.4. Also ran Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (found nothing). 5. I then installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. A couple of adwares found, and then one that said: PUM.Bad.Proxy in the Registry Value category. It deleted them all.My question is, what next? What else should I do? At times during this process, I kept re-checking and the Proxy sertver box was re-checked, so something was flipping it back on every time. Also, the msmsgs and ctfmon do not seem to want to rem... Read more

Basically, what the title says. will it slow down my connection much? does it actually help protect your privacy?

Answer:Internet Thru A Proxy Server: Is It Worth It?

It will be slower for some sites and faster for others. No way to tell unless you try it out.

As for privacy.. The main questions is always what are you trying to hide.

And would you prefer all your web activities to go through a single machine with god knows who watching and logging but the webservers will not know where you really are or that all your connections go through to the servers directly so your IP address is revealed to them, but nothing else?

i am running windows 8.1 pro x64 bit, with 16gb of ram.

I am typing this on my laptop which has windows 7 on.

A day or so back I noticed that when I reopened firefoxe, there was always a tab which couldn't connect to proxy server.

I then ran my anti malware programs, spybot, malwarebytes and Emisoft Emergency Repair. All 3 programs found some instances of PUPs and malway/spyware which I removed.
I also ran Adware Cleaner, and removed anything found.

Now when I reopen firefox, instead of the  tabs showing google and other previously viewed websites, I get:

Firefox can't find the server at %66%65%65%64.%68%65%6c%70erbar.com.

There was something like that in the properites/target of firefox, which removed, and I cannot see where that line is coming from.

I have just ran ipconfig, on the windows 8.1 machine, and my IPv4 address is given as 192.168.56.1 This should be something like 192.168.0.4 or something.
Just realised I am running virtual box software and the adapter for that is 192.168.56.1, and there is no other IPv4 address nor gateway address

Help please.

My setup is well wired up, no question there. I'm (trying to)install Proxy Server 2.0 on NT4 Server (to which I added service pack 4 & Option Pack 4). The server has two NIC's, one to the LAN and one to the WAN. The hardware (router, hub, cables) works, that's for sure. I got my DNS addresses all written out, both NIC's configured, no WINS server, backlog of addresses entered from 192.168.1.100 to 254... The Internet connection does work, the DHCP is in the router, the NIC on the inside gets its IP adress no problem upon booting, the other one I assigned one to it... I don't get it, and this is just not getting done.
Thank you

Answer:Proxy server can't access internet

What is the error message when you try to ping a site on the WAN? Are the DNS servers internal or external, and, if external, can you ping them by numeric address? Can you run a traceroute anywhere? Can you ping the addie of the NIC-WAN card? It sounds like you may well have tried these, but it certainly helps for us to know what you have and haven't done so we can help ya. Let us know!

i am unable to access the Internet without the use of a proxy server(spotflux).
When I try to do so, the browser gives the following error DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG or says that the network has been changed.
I've tried resetting the router, rebooting the computer etc. but that doesn't seem to work.
I've also ran malware bytes but that didnt fix the problem either.
Any help would be appreciated

So Im finally putting my big boy pants on and setting up a real home server. There are going to be 3 main uses for this server

1) Home server - Mainly for streaming to all my raspberry pi's and other windows devices but also as a network drive for my ssd only pcs

2) Remote server - Grabbing files away from home, remote vnc etc

3) Web server - Been working on a small personal website for a while now that I want to be able to host myself once it goes live. This isn't my main use for the server and if it isnt going to jive well with my primary uses I can always build a seperate pc for that use.

So if cost wasnt a concern between home server 2011 and server 2012 which would you choose based on my planned usage? I plan on using drive pool or drive bender with whatever I choose. So I would also appreciate some recommendations on which application you would choose with your choice of operating systems. Also, I can't seem to find definitive differences between the server 2012
releases (standard, foundation, essentials) It seems to be more of a licensing thing, so furthermore, which version of server 2012 would you go with?

Sorry guys, Im a total noob at this

Answer:Home server 2011 or Server 2012?

Personally, I'm going with WHS2011. I'd rather start with an OS that has most of it's bugs worked out, over an unknown. Since you can get a license for ~$50, why not start there to get your feet wet, then upgrade to Server 2012 once the kinks have been worked out?

i am just messing about experimenting on a few things at home and wondered if someone could give me some pointers on the folowing:
I have myself a win2k server that is connected to the internet using a cable modem connected using a ethernet net card.
I also have a 98 machine networked to the server using another ethernet net card in a workgroup
I want to use the server as a proxy server so i can access the internet from the 98 machine
i have tried a few diffrent things to get this working but usually end up losing all communication with the 98 pc
from what i can gather it involves setting up tings with DNS, and sharing the connection to the internet, but i am not getting to far at the mo.
can anyone point me in the right direction or better tell me how to do it?
cheers

a few days ago my computer contracted a malware problem that altered my proxy settings, at the time i thought that thats all the malware did, i just went in and fixed the settings through firefox. then i tried to play WoW via the launcher and it wouldn't let me, so i opened the repair module and it wont let me connect to that either so then i opened the wow.exe and it comes up with an error log but lets me through and until the latest patch came out i could play. but now with the patch out i cant play it since it says that i have to have the patch to play, so i went to battle.net and downloaded the downloader, it wont let me download the patch through this, i went to wow.com and tried to download the patch manually but it wont let me download through the mirror sites. other programs i use that go online give me the same excuse but say they cant recognize the server. one program ( a updater for Microsoft) said it had to do with my firewall settings, so i turned it completely off and tried to redo the update but it gave me the same problem with the firewall even turned off... at this point i booted my computer in safe mode, ran AntiMalware bytes, sophos rootkit, super anti spyware, and AVG. they all found at least one problem, but nothing too bad mostly tracking cookies, but there were 2 trojans... im at a loss and i have no idea what is wrong, ive restarted my router so many times its not funny all i know is that it has something to do my connection? i can access the ... I need to set up an proxy such that machines on the internal network can connect to the Internet to obtain patches etc. Looking for something that will preferably run on Windows Server. Looked around and the most prominent recommendation is to set up Forefront Threat Management Gateway which is total overkill for what I need to do (nevermind the cost).

There has to be a simpler way to just create a proxy and be done with it.

Hello! I am my company's Network Administrator, but I am not very familiar with Proxy-Server (Microsoft, V1.1) which we use as a "firewall". I've been fooling around with it a bit, but here is all I want to do:
I (the admin) would like full Internet Access. We don't block sites or IP's, but I can't connect to things like (here's an example) http://www.exite.com/games )
I can connect, but when the java applet attempts to load, it says it cannot connect.

Same for applications like Napster, or other programs like that where you have to get a connection to the internet to run it.

(Now, don't think I sit around playing games at work and downloading stuff- I need to do some on-line classes for my accounting software and the same thing keeps happening, but I thought I would use a familiar example or two.)

I am using Microsoft Proxy Server V 1.1 on an NT server and a Windows 98 client machine. I connect through a proxy server setting (company name, port 80). I am using a cable modem, which is run directly into the server.
I tried going into the security settings and granting myself full permission, but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas??

Suzette

My daughter accidentally deleted Wingate 7 from our new computer. I downloaded Wingate 8 and now my computer won't connect to the Internet, says there is no response from the proxy server. I've changed from wireless to Ethernet and still no change. I don't have the money to get it fixed professionally and would prefer to fix it myself.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

Answer:Internet Connection Problems Proxy Server

Why are you using a proxy? You should be able to disable the proxy setting in the Internet Explorer browser under Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections ( Tab ) -> and remove the pointer to the proxy and be able to surf the web without it having connection issues to internet because proxy is not available. As far as accidentally deleting the proxy, its more of an intentional deletion such as if you were using the proxy to spy/keep track of or limit her surfing etc. So she likely intentionally deleted it to avoid you from snooping on her web travels since a proxy can be used to log where people have gone etc in addition to content control to block sites etc.

I've been unable to use my laptop computer fully for almost two months now. I have a feeling when I downloaded an extension for Chrome, a bad malware was attached to it. I cannot access the internet through any of my browsers: Chrome, Firefox, or even the dreaded Internet Explorer. When trying to go to a site in Chrome, the message "this page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred." In the lower left hand corner if my homepage does load and I type in a different address, the text "waiting for proxy tunnel" is visible. I've never seen that before and I'm pretty sure that I'm going through a proxy since I have Comcast as my ISP. Another message I would see after attempting to go to a website is "ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED."   On the rare occasion that I do get to a new webpage, the https is crossed out. When checking to see if it was just Chrome acting up, Firefox would show an error message 'the proxy server is refusing connections" or it wouldn't change from the homepage at all. I've done Google searches on the fixing the proxy problem and when I checked the LAN settings in the Internet Options, I'm unable to uncheck the "use a proxy server for your LAN" option (greyed out). I don't believe that was checked before, but then again, I had no need to mess with those settings. In order to install programs to help fix this (i.e. Farbar Recovery), I had to use another computer other than mine, copy the download file to a flash drive, then paste it t... Read more

Hello,

I have strange issue with Windows 8.1 x64 Pro with Media Center. Since it was upgraded from 8, there have been issues with Software Store. Despite internet connection working fine with Firefox and other applications, Store would not connect to the internet. After long investigation I found out that Proxy server setting in Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings must be disabled in order to get Store working again. For some reason proxy server only stays disabled for the current session, which means when the windows is rebooted it comes back enabled again. My question is how to make it stay permanently disabled, as I don't use any proxy. Thanks.

Answer:Internet Options Proxy Server setting won't stay off.

Try resetting IE11, Tools> Internet Options Advanced tab, Reset button.

I want to be able to force all of the Internet traffic on my LAN through a PC running some UTM distribution, or something like Smoothwall. My main goal is URL filtering and stuff like that.

I have a Linksys router with a DHCP server. The router's IP is 192.168.0.1.

If I have my UTM box with an IP of 192.168.0.2 and a transparent proxy server running on port 80, how can I have all traffic automatically go through the UTM box?

I know I can manually set the proxy settings on each computer, but I don't want to do that. I want the IP info given from the DHCP server to be such that any new computer connecting to this network would be forced through the UTM box.

So to recap, my goal is to have some automatic way to force all Internet traffic through another device for filtering. I think I can set up the filter myself, but the part I'm struggling with is forcing all the traffic to go there automatically.

Thanks!

Hello,

I have a strange issue. My computer was running fine. Then I took it to the main lobby and hooked up the internet through hard wire. It worked fine as I connected to the interent. When I went back into my office and connected to the internet I got page cannot be displayed. I cleaned out all the temporary internet stuff with ccleaner and did the clean registry, still nothing. A friend gave me hijackthis and I ran it and came up with some strange settings in proxy. So I went into interent options to try and change them, but they don't go away. I do apply, ok, and exit IE but they come right back. I used hijackthis to remove them and it worked. Unfortunately I had to do another presentation in the main lobby, same thing happened. I looked through the first steps and ran them all and can't find anything. I am running XP SP3 and have avg8 free running. I don't do any web surfing or downloading of software. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ghost

i had installed malwarebytes to rid of the adds and pop ups that I receive onto my web browser ( Google Chrome & Mozilla FireFox ) I let it scan my computer which had some effects of lagging my current in-use files. After it had finished scanning it asked me whether I wanted to delete the files or if I wanted to quarantine them, so I decided to quarantine all the files it had found a threat. It then had told me to restart my computer and after I had restarted my computer, everything was working fine but I couldn't connect to the internet due to : Unable to connect to the proxy server.
Since then I had uninstalled malwarebytes before I found the forum because I thought that were get rid of my issue. I had run my SRST scan and I also have attached my log for the malwarebytes run.
Since I am using a laptop to access the internet I am unable to do online scans on my insected computer.
I do not understand the functions on computers and such so well so I need greater assistance.
Thank you for any assistance that you give me.

My high-school age niece's laptop was so messed up, it would no longer work properly.  I used malwarebytes antimalware to detect and eliminate any virus or malware, then deleted any software that I did not recognize.  She said that IE did not work, so I deleted it also...with the intention of downloading the newest version.  I left Google Chrome on the computer.  When I tried to access the internet, via ethernet cable, I was not able to get online.  The error message said the computer was not able to connect to the proxy server; but, it showed that the computer was connected to the internet....Google Chrome would not connect to the internet provider, however.  I tried several things; nothing worked.  Can anyone help me?

Answer:Problem with Proxy Server; Unable to connect to internet

Hi  Open the chrome browser >>  Next  once Chrome is open then in the top Right hand corner of the browser ( below red cross) you will see 3 lines horizontal to each other . Click the 3 lines and open browser options >> Next > click  Settings >>> Next  scroll down till you see Advanced Settings and click Advanced Settings >>>>  Next scroll down to where it says Network >> Next click  Change Proxy Settings >>>> Once inside Internet Properties  Click LAN settings >>>> Make sure that  " Automatically  Detect Settings "  and click OK ...   Close the Browser and re-open Chrome and your home page should be displayed as normal .  Also if you have uninstalled IE ( internet explorer ) You can run Windows update and it should realise that IE has been uninstalled and offer the program via Windows Udate again . Failing that here is the link for IE 11 download.   http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/internet-explorer/ie-11-worldwide-languages                    Hope this helps                                Checkurtech

HP TouchSmart Windows 8 w/Norton 360 installed.
Unable to connect to internet, proxy server refusing connections, unable to change in internet options (will not save)
Shows user is admin, but won't let changes be made.
(I've found a wealth of help here before, and this time my boss needs help, so I am trying to help him out)

Found a thread on microsoft stating this could be a possible virus.
Advised to download Hitman, Spybot, Malwarebytes and AVG.

Was able to download Hitman and run from USB.  Found 33+ threats, and supposedly quarantined or deleted them.
Unable to scan with Spybot, because it said needed internet connection.
Scanned with Malwarebytes and found 1204 no malicious, and 2 malicious. Supposedly removed those as well.

Gen: Variant.Adware.Graftor.169592
HEUR: Trojan.Win32.Generic
Trojan.Generic.11651395
Troan.GenerickD.2082785

While running through these, Norton popped up something about Bloodhound.MalPE

I've told him he doesn't need Norton, but right now we don't know how to get rid of it.

Please let me know if you can help us out.  We will be available to post whatever is needed and proceed tomorrow. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Unable to Connect to Internet - Proxy Server Refusing Connections

Hello, newschick! Let's start with some important instructions:
Avoid installing or uninstalling programs during the malware removal process, because doing so can cause discrepancies between the information in different log files created by different programs at different times.
Do NOT run tools such as Combofix unless instructed by a BleepingComputer staff member. These tools can break your computer if used improperly, so you should only run them if you know what you are doing or if the person who told you to use Combofix knows what they're doing.
If you want to, you should back up all important documents and files to an external storage device or online file backup service. Malware infections--and attempts to fix them--can prevent your computer from booting up, making your files unaccessable; this means that backing up your files to an USB flash drive or to an online service like Dropbox before attempting to remove malware is a good idea.
Step 1: Rkill

Please download Rkill by Grinler. Save it to your desktop.
Run the program. If you are using Windows Vista, you should right click the program and select "Run as administrator".
A Black DOS box should appear; this indicates that the program is functioning.
The program will generate a log file on your desktop. Post the contents of that file in your next reply.
Do not restart your computer until the other steps are finished.

Step 2: Please download MiniToolBox by Farbar, and save it to your desktop.

Run... Read more

hey, i am completely baffled

for years now i have used GP to give users who are not supposed to access the internet a proxy server address of 127.0.0.1. recently i installed a pfsense firewall/router using squid and squidguard set to run in transparent mode.

now suddenly "some" of the users have internet access and i have no idea why.i would love to just tell squidguard to block the internet and leave GP out of it, but team leaders need internet access when they log into their accounts.

ive made whitelist destination in squidguard and it dosent work, ive made a new OU and a new GP and that dosent work..

so the problem lies with having the loopback address as my proxy server. any recommendations or suggestions on how i could block internet on a windows 2003 domain on a per user basis?

thanks for your time

Answer:proxy server undermining group policy to block internet?

Direct it to another meaningless private IP? If you're network is a 10.x.x.x network, point the proxy to 192.168.0.1 or something stupid like that. See if that helps.

My fiancee downloaded some free software and really bogged down her Windows 7 machine. Pastaquotes is the one really sticking out in my head. I ran the unistaller for all new programs via windows control panel. Ever since IE and Google Chrome will not allow me to uncheck using a proxy server option. I've attempted to restore to factory defaults for each browser and that did not work.  Firefox will allow the proxy to be shutdown and allow internet access. I've run malwarebytes, I've run rkill, I've run emisoft. I've run other programs to help this to no avail. How do I fix this if possible.
Thanks
Scott

Answer:Pastaquotes removed now proxy server blocking internet access.

I'm apologizing now if I have this posted in the wrong place or haven't dug deep enough into the forums for an answer. Also I see that I have some extra stuff in the report because I tried to do the Windows Update but couldn't and forgot to run the clean up again. My problem is that every time I connect to the internet, through any program, I have these settings again. The proxy is enabled to use 127.0.0.1 with the port 5400. I have deleted them and unchecked the boxes and clicked OK but they always come back. They are in my registry too, only when I connect though. I'm afraid to do much in the registry without advice. This all started after I did a reinstall of Internet Explorer and was looking at the Internet Options>Connections>Settings>Proxy>Advanced just to see what was in there, which was nothing. I had to check the box for "Use a proxy..." to look and when I closed out a pop up screen asked me if I was sure I didn't want a proxy and I clicked yes. So fine, I unchecked "Use a proxy..." but then wanted to look at it again. I did all the same but this time a proxy suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I noticed that my web pages were coming up faster and so left it there but then began to get spam email from Canada the next morning and got worried about it. I can't get rid of it now. I can uncheck it everytime I connect but what a pain and is it really gone? What is it up to?I did all the prep work recommended by BC, which took several hours an... Read more

Answer:Trouble With Proxy Server And Port Settings In Internet Tools

Hi Everyone, I found out what was making my proxy and port default every time, finally. It was my new Web Accelerator from my ISP. That is how they are enabling a faster service. But in the meantime, since I followed your preparation instructions I was able to find the other stuff that most likely caused the not so nice spam emails. I had also installed a "new" program around the same time. In the Print Shop ProPublisher 2000 ver. 10 the BitDefender scan found a Backdoor. Ralpha.A and a Brodcast Dssagent. So I had (1) Trojan.Dloader.BUP, (2) Backdoor.Ralpha.A, (1) Generic.Adw.SaveNow.56AD4696 (leftover from a downloaded screensaver, I think), (1) Brodcast DSSAGENT and (2) Trojan.Dloader.AMA's altogether. The AMA's were sticky. The BitDefender could not get them out. After a few tries, I then downloaded the CounterSpy program (4 to 5 hours on dial-up ) and was able to remove them. A tip: Run your scans again until you get a clean scan. Don't assume that all was found and deleted on the first try. So I'm hoping that all is clean as a whistle ! I hope someone can give my new Hijack This report a look and see if it is OK. Keep in mind that after doing all that scanning and coming back clean I then uninstalled the bad Print Shop ProPublisher and did some other stuff before doing the report. I did the disk clean up and Eusing Registry Cleaner to try and make a clean report. Hope it is OK. I'm wondering if the two that I've marked in red can go? Thanks for your at... Read more

Hello,
I created the following performance counter using logman.exe.

logman.exe create counter US_Triton_Perf_Log -b 9/23/2015 09:30:00 -e 9/30/2099 18:30:00 -r -s $server -si $frequence -cf $folder\$server.txt -f $logtype  -o C:\local\logs\Perfout_$Server --a -v mmddhhmm  -rf  $max_duration

When I do this across multiple servers specifically for Windows Servers 2008/2012, the counter is created to repeat and run everyday at 930PM and stops running everyday at 430PM. This works perfectly fine as intended. However, When I do this for a Windows
2003 server, my created counter is very different.
For example, in this case, I have set to the counters to start at 930AM and end at 1830PM, because I have set a maximum duration of 9 hours, the job terminates and begins on the next day, since I have the repeat option on. However, this does not apply to
our 2003 server; logman creates the job to run once a week in this case it would be on a Wednesday. In addiiton, I noticed that the job doesn't not even start at it's indented time. It actually does not start at all. I also notice that the jobs on all windows
2003 servers are created in a pending status, which then prevents me from removing the counter remotely.

I would like to know if windows 2003 is capable of working like my win 2008/2012 servers using logman, and if historically, the job has to be kicked off through scheduled task.

Both Jobs are using the same criteria, but a... Read more

Actually this is for my wife's computer, there is more than one issue. It is a Windows 7 64-bit machine. On Sunday she tried to get on the internet using Firefox. She kept getting a message similar to "Cannot connect to the proxy server". Well, we don't use a proxy server, or a firewall, so that message just indicates a setting is wrong on the browser. Checked it, it was correct for our situation. Hmmmm... that's odd. Tried IE and Chrome. Same message. Settings also correct for those browsers. Well, reboot it. She did. No luck, same message. Had her attempt to do a system restore for two days ago. She did. System booted up, looked fine, tried Firefox, same message. Tried rebooting again. This time, it starts the boot process, but goes to a completely black screen, flashes a quick message that says "Windows Loading", and that's it. The computer has been in that state since Sunday night with no change. It will not go into safe mode, have tried multiple times. I'm sure this is a bit of malware, but can't find anything about it. The computer is less than 3 months old, and has worked fine, so doubtful that the hardrive is trashed.

In a nutshell, it looks my parents' computer is able to get wifi connection and is connected to the "internet" but none of the browsers work, e.g. IE and Chrome, thus we can't actually get online. I am posting from another computer and have followed your guide by downloading DDS, etc and transferring program(s)/document(s) via a flash drive.

My mom tried to download some sort of accounting software guide/tutorial onto her computer. In the middle of the download, I saw that she was actually downloading quite a bit of "other" stuff including some games and other browsers and search engines, so we were able to stop some of the downloads midway. I went in and uninstalled and deleted the programs that came in that day that didn't seem familiar.

Unfortunately, after doing that the browsers stopped working and have the error message: (Chrome) Unable to connect to proxy server and (IE) The proxy server isn't responding; check your proxy settings 127.0.0.1:8877.

This is just a home computer and I am not aware of any proxy servers that we set up here. I tried to follow their instructions to try and fix the problem and Go to Tools> Internet Options > Connections and go to LAN settings and UNCHECK the proxy server box. Unfortunately, every time I uncheck the box, it is immediately rechecked when I open it again.

I did find another thread where someone had a similar problem. We tried to download some programs and follow the instructions exactly. It worked... Read more

I have Windows 7, search the internet with Chrome, seems my computer may be infected.  When I click chrome, sometimes it gives me my home page, sometimes it goes straight to the message "unable to connect to the proxy server", when it doesn't go directly to my home page correctly, it also states this exact message with an upside down face.  I did some research online and the Chrome message that people were posting up were a bit different from the one I am seeing.

When I attempt to troubleshoot by going to the Chrome settings and going down to "Change Proxy settings" it prompts "access to this feature has been disabled by a restriction set by your system administrator", even though I am using the system administrator user, which is the only user on the system.  I've tried going in through the cmd line as well, pinged, netstat, tracert would give me results but weren't consistent.  I did a system restore as well, I had Sopho's anti-virus but it was out-of-date, for this was my work computer back in September but think the lease for it ended, so I installed AVG for now just today, most likely the reasoning for the computer being infected and causing this problem.  I have also started the pc in safe-mode, same results, is this a group policy issue?  I am unfamiliar with group policy and couldn't find it within my computer.  I do have the home premium version of 7 for what it's worth.

Please, please help, anyone!  I reall... Read more

Hello, I've done some searches in the forums and tried a few fixes posted for similar issues but had no luck. BackgroundI am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I recently installed some free software which of course came with some adware, changed my browser settings (home page, default search engines.) After some work I was able to remove them, but now have encountered a new problem which I expect is also malware related. ProblemWhen I direct my browsers to any website I get a message saying that there is no response from the proxy server. I have never used a proxy server for internet access and when I go into my Internet Properties>LAN Settings and un-check "Use a proxy Server for your LAN" and check "Automatically detect settings" the settings are not remembered and revert as soon as I close and re-open "LAN Settings" rendering my browsers useless. Things I've TriedScans withMalwarebytes antimalwareMicrosoft security essentialsSpybot Search and DestroyCCleaner (cleaner and registry)Using regedit to manually delete suspicious registry keysThe FRST fixlist hereThe OTL fix hereAny help you can offer if appreciated.
