a connection to the deployment share could not be made.

Question: a connection to the deployment share could not be made.

Hello there.I am very new to MDT 2010, so please take it easy.I was running the RC and managed to successfully build a test Win7 image from a Reference machine. I did this by deploying the standard Enterprise image, but rather than 'capture' it straight after, I did some test tweeking to the image, as this is what our company requires. Once happy, from the reference machine, I opened up the "litetouch.vbs" script from the DeploymentShare$\Scripts and invoked a 'sysprep and capture' task I had previous created. This ran perfectly, created my custom OS back to the server and I was then able to deploy it to my test target.OK - so I was quite excited by all this - so far, so good.Yesterday, I installed the new 'final release' of MDT 2010 and I spent some more time on my reference machine, making sure it was 'perfect' as a base release.Once happy, I browsed back the DeploymentShare$ to run "litetouch.vbs" and although the wizard does start, allowing me to choose a Task Sequence and take me through credentials - at the end of the wizard, it just ends - no job is started.Sometimes when I run the .vbs, I get a 'wizard error' popup ...  "A connection to the deployment share () could not be made. The deployment will not proceed".Things I have done: rebooted both client and server. Recreated the 'sysprep and capture' job. Updated the MDT.Can anyone help?

Preferred Solution: a connection to the deployment share could not be made.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: a connection to the deployment share could not be made.

I hit this problem yesterday with two Dell PCs. I use MDT 2010.
The error message was totally off...
The problem in BOTH cases was caused by bad local hard drives. Diskpart's "clean" fixed the problem.

A connection to the deployment share ... could not be made. The deployment will not proceed. Connection OK. Possible cause: invalid credentials.
PLEASE help me. I really don't know what to do anymore... Let's say I'm desperate. It is the correct Name and also correct map, afterwords I made myself a deploymentshare map and it also didn't work. Tried the $ --> didn't worked... WTF is wrong :(
I tried the administrator account, a self made account. Tried domainname\account
Nothing worked...
I'm using vm workstation.
Deploying from a virtual server to a virtual client...

Pleas help me, it is a little urgent... I really don't know what's wrong...

Hey there. I'm very new to MDT and to IT in general and I might need some help here
I was imaging a Dell Latitude E7440 with Windows 7 OS using MDT 2013. It runs Lite touch installation, drivers, etc. and progresses to phase 2 with the error message:

A connection to the deployment share could not be made.
DHCP Lease was not obtained for any Networking device! Possible cause: Check physical connection
Retry: Try again to connect to the deployment share.
Cancel: Give up, cancelling any in-progress task sequence.

Any help on this?

Answer:L460: Unable to deploy Windows 7 using MDT2013/WDS on L460, A connection to the deployment share...

That device ID is for the Intel I219-V ethernet card, so that driver seems to be missing from the package. Are you able to add just the LAN driver manually?

We have a very strange phenomenon happening that we have never seen. Here's the background. Our computers are deployed with MDT and WDS, we apply any windows updates, they're on the domain, and we log them into the account used on that computer.
When they're logged in for the first time, we have a script that runs that adds shortcuts, network drives, wlan profiles, favorites, etc. We have had numerous netbooks that have been configured, used for a while, had more updates, and programs installed,
and then one day, everything disappears. They come up with a bad trust relationship, and it's as if the user profile for the domain account was never logged in or configured. There's no updates, programs, settings, nothing, it's as if the computers are back
to the state they are in after you click finish after deploying with MDT. There's no record (that I can find) of any sort of system restore. The only thing that's there that wouldn't be right after deployment are the event logs, and maybe some folders in appdata
for programs that were added after deployment. Anybody ever see anything like this?

I have MDT 2010 setup and am in the process of setting up a 2nd share, I created the share with no issues, and created the "link" without issues as weel. I am now trying to get the linked share to replicate, and am getting an error that the "everything" profile is not valid, when it does exist on the new share. I even tried creating a new profile and setting it to that one, still get the exact same error. Has anyone else seen this?

Answer:MDT 2010 linked deployment share issue

Figured it out, if this ever happens to you, delete and re-create the 2nd share (the one you want to replicate too) then re-create the link and update. Something must have gotten corrupted.

Hi All,
We've had a reference build for Windows 7 to capture up and running for years, no problems. We've not changed anything I can think of in this build for a good while. We generate a new baseline image every few months, installing all the latest patches in
it so it's patched before being installed in production. For years all so far so good!
Since the last time we did it, we're now getting it failing to install the apps (all hosted on a share on the same server as the deployment share), it quickly became obvious that the issue is when we're trying to connect to the server that hosts the deployment
and app shares we're now being prompted for credentials which we didn't used to.
To make it more interesting we look after another infrastructure, and the Windows 7 reference build there is still fine...
Any ideas?
Thanks

Please see this topic for more information about CryptoLocker: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/506924/cryptolocker-hijack-program/I have a customer that has had a PC infected with the Crypto Locker malware and it has encrypted all of the files on the PC as well as onto the network share.  The big issue is that this user was a member of the network admin group and had access to everything. I have been unable to find much is any information on Crypto Locker nor can I find a tool to clean or decrypt the files. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Please do not reply to this post unless you have constructive information as to how to resolve the problem.  If you have the same issue, either open your own thread or "watch" this one for a possible resolution.

Answer:Crypto Locker has made it onto network share drive

Update:   The infected PC no longer shows the dialog box to pay the ransom.  The timer ran out and now it is gone.  I can find no trace of it, but the files are still inaccessible.

I believe that I may be screwed.   The ransomware stated that it used an RSA_2048 encryption.

Any ideas.

Hey guys,

I am trying to setup a VPN connection to connect to my workplace using the "Create a new connection" wizard under "Network Connections", but even if I clearly select "Virtual Private Network connection" it ends up creating a dial-up connection. I have tried this multiple times and I am SURE that I have clicked on "Virtual Private Network connection" EVERY single time!

What's up?! This is very frustrating

Hello

I have SBC DSL. When I first got it a couple years ago and tried to open up IE after connecting I got this window "No connection made" try again or work offline. When I hit try again it would come up. Someone told me how to remove fix that. Somehow it has come back. I can still hit try again and if works fine so I didn't pay much attention other then it was a hassle to have to hit try again. I would like to know how to fix get rid of that window. Reason being is I think it's affecting my windows media player. Anytime I try to use it I get no connection found window. So I'm thinking the two are corrleated. I appreciate any information/help that anyone can give me. Believe me you will be saving a lot of headaches. BTW, I have Win 98 second edition. Thanks again

Answer:No connection made??

I have IE 6 and Win. Med P. 9. The Media player acts like I'm not connected at all. Once again, not sure if that has anything to do with the window I get when I start up IE 6, but I think it does. Any answers?

Hi, this is my first post and hopefully my last hah. Before I start I want to let whom ever is reading this that my setup
between my modem, router, and pc/ps3 is correct and wires are all in the propper place. I recently got a new PS3 and bought a dynex 4 port 10 mbs router(wired).
Whenever I connect the two(ps3 and pc) my pc will be the only one to connect. Now I have tried manually entering the IP
address, Subnet Mask, default router, primary dns and secondary dns on my ps3 from my ipconfig/all and still nothing.I
found that by connecting my ps3 first then my computer it seems that whichever connects first(pc connects faster) is the
one to have 100% internet connection.I noticed in a lot of other threads people were asking for an ipconfig/all ran in 'run'.

I did so and here are my results:

Hi!

I have a problem, I'm gonna move to another room in my house, and I want to have the internet connection in my room, so I want to know if the next can be done.

The problem:

- Once I move, i'll have the cable modem and the ADSL router in a separate room. (Yes I have two separate broadband connections).

The Target:

- To pass that 2 connections to the other room, where there's a 10/100 Switch and have a proxy server with 3 NIC's be able to connect to the home lan, the ADSL router and the cable modem.

The way to do it i have in mind:

- In the room where the 2 modems are i'll put a hub to wich i'll connect the adsl router and the cable modem, then i'll plug another lan cable to the uplink port that will go to the switch in the room where my computers will be. Then in that room, besides the other computers that will be conected to the switch, the server will have 3 cables going to the switch. 1 NIC will have DHCP enabled for the cable modem, the 2nd one will have a static (10.0.0.x) ip address and a subnet mask (255.0.0.0) for the ADSL router, and the 3rd NIC will have a static ip (192.168.0.x) and subnet mask (255.255.255.0) to have access to the home network.

The question:

- ¿Will that work?

I'd like to know if it's possible to do that before I go to buy the cables and the hub.

Thans a lot!!!!

Answer:Can this type of connection be made?

How far is there new distance between your pc and the ADSL/ Cable Modem? If i m not mistaken, Cat5 alone can transmit data up to 185m only ! Any longer distance may require a booster to boost the signal.

Ever since I clean installed WIN 7 yesterday, the clipboard gets disabled the moment I connect to the VPS through RDP. I cannot copy/paste on my PC and neither could I copy paste between the VPS and my PC

Before the reinstallation, I could easily copy/paste between the VPS and my PC

I looked up some information on this and went ahead and Disabled the Do not allow clipboard redirection group policy on my computer. Even then, it's not working.

I even checked and made sure that the Clipboard check box in enabled on my RDP settings. Still no luck

Hello,

I have a DELL Latitude CPx500GT operating Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack4, with 261,532KB of RAM.

This unit has worked faultlessly until last week when a serious problem arose. The laptop still works as normal, but when I dial up my ISP the machine crashes with a Blue Screen,
***STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
After this stop message the laptop is jammed and nothing works, the only way to switch off is to remove the battery. Needless to say I have been unable to connect to the internet with the Latitude, and have had to resort to hunting out an old PC using Windows 95, which I am sending this post on.

The strange thing is, after the crash, the Latitude is still making the computer squeaks, which can be heard on the phone line, only stopping after the modem is disconected.

I am sending this with the same modem installed in the old laptop, to prove it works. I have tried using different ISPs (I subscribe to three), and a different modem, but it always crashes at the same point.
It dials in perfectly, on-screen message says "Verifying name and password", then "Registering your computer on the network" then changes to "Authenticated", at this exact moment it changes to the Blue Screen crash.

I have uninstalled the Firewall but it makes no difference.

I have run a Symantec virus check, which found nothing.

I have not installed any new hardware recently.

My network connection is still limited somehow, it shows an exclamation mark on the network connection icon in the tray, and when I repair the connection it says:

Does anyone know how I can fix my connection and take off that stupid limitation?

I know that generally i need a router and have to plug the TW modem into router/switch combo, setup MAC address cloning, then attach PC's to router/switch ports but was wondering if i can set it up without router..?Telewest BB connection just has the Motorola sb4200 surfboard cable modem plugged straight into PC 01 via installed NIC.Can i add an additional NIC into PC 01, connect it with RJ45 CAT 5 x-over cable to a PCMCIA NIC for the laptop (PC 02) to get an Internet connection using ICS in Windows XP that runs on PC 01, or do i have to go with the router option, any help, alternative solutions (bridging), suggestions, thanks in advance...

Answer:Telewest BB Connection Help (share connection)

Personal opinion would be to go down the router road. However:Why not consider wireless? It's relatively cheap these days.2 wireless pci adapters will allow you to connect both machines for file sharing and pc1 can be used as PC 2's web access. You can buy 2 wireless adapters (802.11b) from ebuyer for £40 delivered and no doubt cheaper from the local PC shop. The only downside to this method is pc1 has to be switched on if PC requires web access. If you go to the blueyonder networking section click here they'll quite happily supply you with netgear products to the tune of £111 for a router, wireless pcmcia card for laptop and usb wireless adapter for PC (802.11b).Definitely consider wireless, especially with the summer coming up and that nice Chardonnay you been saving can be sipped whilst you while away endless hours surfing on the lounger in the garden.Happy hunting

Combofix was brought up on a couple of other forums without a warning to not use it unsupervised. I ran it and now I do not have an internet connection. I should have been more careful. I would appreciate any help on how to get the internet connection back up. Thank you very much.

Hello,I've run through the steps, it seemed like the adaware/spybot sd worked for a little while, but now the problem is worse. Before connecting to the internet (dial-up) the machine works fine. Everything is snappy and great. As soon as I connect to teh internet, even rt-click explore my computer takes 20-30 seconds longer than normal. I was not able to run an online virus scan due to my slow dial up connection. Also, it seems like the internet browsing itself is also slowed. I thought that it could be my antivirus realtime protection slowing everything down, so I uninstalled it (AVG), and everything seemed to go faster... for a while. Now it's worse. I've installed Kapersky to try it, and that seems to slow everything down as well. I have windows Vista.   I've connected to the internet wirelessly and show connection and a strong signal.   When I launch internet explorer, it states that it "connot display the webpage.  I am also finding that I cannot connect with Norton anti-virus and other software.  I can't find the block and the Lenovo and Vista help pages do not provide any workable insights.Suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:T61 with Vista: Wireless Connection made but Explorer will not connect to internet

try restarting your router/cable modem if you have one.  Unplug it, wait about 20 seconds, plug it back in.  If theres a reset button press that also.   Sometimes this happens to me where I can apparantly connect to my home network, but can't access anything including internet.

Finally made the move to Gigabit... connection running at 1Gbps but I'm not impressed. I have a Netgear ProSafe Dual WAN VPN Gigabit Firewall FVS124G and I have my Dell Dimension 9200 connected to it (it has a built-in Gigabit NIC). Honestly, I don't see ANY difference...

Then, again... I probably need to have ALL my workstations connected via Gigabit and start transferring massive amounts of data in order to notice anything... right?

Still... it's nice to have that 1Gbps piece of text on the bottom right of my desktop

Just my $0.02...

Answer:Finally made the move to Gigabit... connection running at 1Gbps but I'm not impressed

You won't notice a damn thing until you start transferring data between the network, and even then, it won't be 1 GB/s. Maybe 300-400 mb/s. I'd suggest running Cat6 between them as well.

hi all, I'm a newbie, but have spent some time searching thru prievous posts and upon other forums without finding an answer, so I apologise in advance if this is simpleton stuff.

I've moved into a mates house, who has moved to australia but left me his PC.

His setup is as follows: a 1ghz athlon running winxp home edition and is connected via a vigor2200usb router to a usb external alcatel speedtouch 330 modem, housed in a separate room to his PC. He used to run his PC and multiple xbox's from the router with no problems via his ISP PIPEX adsl account which.. I'm supposed to take over.

I've brought into the mix my own PC : P4 1.5 ghz running WINME which used to connect fine and run smoothly via a dialup 56k modem and ISP freeserve. I notified them I was moving but upon getting here was unable to access the internet from that PC, even if I removed the broadband connections (microfilters) from the house. (v90 modem now removed along with dial up settings)

I began to get "poproxy.exe has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL" messages on bootup which i've traced to my about to expire copy of Norton AV, which is now removed.

In addtition I started to get weird error messages on startup to do with "program X causing an error in KERNEL32.DLL" which I gather can be for "reason X". (I'm looking into one being a possible virus) I've elimnated those errors now,via msconfig running only a bare minimum of starting task... Read more

Hello all,

I have one wireless connection on one pc at home and i am trying to share
it with another two pcs all connected via ethernet (hub) so what is the easiest way to
set this up and i wonder if my connection speed is 256 kb will it be enough for the 3 machines to open messengers and check mail all at the same time ?
I have win xp sp3

I appreciate any help

thank you

Answer:How to share one connection on 3 pcs ?

Well, as long as you're patient it'll probably do.

Is that wireless connection to a wireless router? If so, you simply bridge the wireless and wired connections in the one machine and connect the wired port to that switch. The other machines connected to the switch will have access to the router as long as that wireless machine is running.

When i had windows XP installed, i never had trouble tranfering from one network share to another... I would at least get roughtly 25MBs.. but with Vista (32 & 64) and Windows 7, transfering between network shares is super slow.. could takes days sometimes...

is this happening to other people??

Answer:vista: Network Share to Local = ~50MB/s | Share to Share = 1MB/s.. Huh?

I believe, this is also caused when I have to transfer files from my ipod. that it has to cache on my computer, and then transfer to the network share / computer, this is my theory, I never tested it ofc, maybe someone with more knowledge could help.

it's like unpacking a rar into a network share.

My question is, how do I share my Internet connection with the computer that doesn't have Internet access? The guy at the shop told me it's possible to do this but there's no instructions or anything in the box to tell you how.

Hi there,
My LAN is using 192.168.xx.xx network. but I have a small office in Indonesia which all 4 users connects their notebook and retrieve email using SecurID(VPN). They are always connected and my VPN gives a 10.10.xx.xx IP address. my printer is network enabled and is plugged to the router(print server enabled). How do i share this printer with the users always connected to VPN. ?? pls help..

Answer:How to share printer over VPN connection?

well, if you have a print server on the network, and your outside users are VPN'd in, they should be able to ping to the address of that print server. If they can, you can direct them through the Add Printer Wizard, have them manually configure a new Standard TCP/IP port, and then add the print drivers. After that you should be good to go.

Hello all,

Okay hear is the problem that I am faced with... I have a Virgin Mobile MC760 3G broadband device, I want to share that 3G internet connection with my D-Link DIR-615 router so that I can connect to the 3G over WiFi on my other devices.

The host computer that the 3G device would be plugged into is running Windows XP version 2002 Service Pack 2.

I realize that they do sell 3G routers but I would like to use the D-Link DIR-615 that I already have to avoid buying another router. I also realize that it may be easier to share the connection by creating a wireless network on the host computer and then enable internet sharing, I don't want to do this I need to share the connection through the router.

I don't know if it is possible to do this but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Is it possible to share a 3G connection through a router?

You will need a second network card on the PC so that you can connect it to the router and use Internet Connection Sharing.

Hi there,

I am currently trying to set up some internet sharing action, and am having a bit of difficulty. Ok, so there is a wireless network in the house I am in, my laptop has wireless in built, but my desktop has no wireless card so as I am in the attic of the house, I am unable to just use an ethernet cable to connect it to the internet. I DO, however, have a cat 5 crossover cable, and was just wondering if it is possible to go from wireless router to wireless laptop, then through a WIRED connection to the desktop?

I've been trying for about half an hour now, but no joy. Am I just being stupid, or do I just create a connection between the desktop and the laptop and then bridge it with the wireless connection? is there something that I need to activate that I've missed?

I have just bought a wireless card, and it should be arriving next week, but I just thought it might be interesting to someone to solve this question.

thanks guys

I have 3 computers in 3 separate rooms. When my daughter comes home from college she will have a notebook computer. Without having to disconnect the ethernet cable from the back of her Desktop PC is there a way to split the male end to 2 female ends. This would allow me to connect 2 short male to male ends. One to the PC and one to the notebook. Does such an inexpensive splitter exist. I was able to split my phone lines like this and that splitter was about 2 bucks. Do they make them for RJ45 ends?

Answer:how to share one ethernet connection

What you need is a router, and I'd recommend a wireless one so anyone with a laptop can connect without cabling.

Here's an Open Box router and wireless adapter for $23: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127175R
The modem connects to the router, and the router shares the connection with any and all computers connecting to it. So you can all be on the internet at the same, and even sahre files amongst yourselves.

A simple splitter won't work.

Hi Folks

I have BT broadband to my house.

I have two PC's a work laptop and a desktop. I currently have both setup up to use the broadband access but only one at a time.

What I am wondering is if there is any way to share the connection between the two PC's so that both can be connected to the web at the same time?

If this is possible what hardware would I need?

Thanks

Answer:Can I share my broadband connection?

You would need to install a router, probably a 4 port as I have not seen a 2 port router. The router would be installed after the modem. The cable from the modem (that connects to the computer now) gets plugged into the WAN port on the router and the two computers woul be connected through the LAN ports on the router. You will probably have to purchase those cables seperately. Radio Shack is one source for all those components. Or you could go wireless. It depends on what fits your budget.

Hello There,

I have been using windows since forever on my Computers.
For years I have been using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on My Main PC and Secondary PC.

Normally I would create a Homegroup on the Main, And get the Secondary to join.
I'd then Share my Dialup Connection, And the Secondary PC has internet too, To play MMOs, Download, and anything else.
All by just using my LAN Cable to connect the two.

But this doesn't work on Windows 8.1 Pro

I have seen LOTS and LOTS of step by step "Solutions" Which I have followed to the letter but couldn't achieve anything at all.

Can anybody please help me solve this problem so I can have internet on both of my PCs again?
And can Windows 7 Ultimate share Internet to Win 8.1 Pro still? Or is it Win 8.1 Pro too broken to even be shared to?

Please help me it is urgent and I've wasted 2 days trying to solve this, I have a killer flu and I need to fix this before Monday

Kind Regards

I have access to an internet connection that uses mac address filtering and timed sessions. i.e., from 30mins to 366days. I want to use my connection (I have a 366day account) to the network as a hotspot for my iPhone without having to go through the hassle of either getting another 366day pass or the grief associated with spoofing the mac address in order to get online with my phone. I also don't want to use iTunes because it will mess up my iPod's stuff too. And adding a new device has already cost me a library of stuff and due to "we can't confirm xyz, have a great day" after it was all deleted. any how i want to do the same work by sharing a printer with a vpn in connection but
when i ping it its giving me a message
requested time out
if i disable the VPN it connects normally
i don't know what to do really

Answer:Share printer over VPN connection?

Where is the printer located? On a Domain or Workgroup?
Is the Printer Shared already? If not that needs to be done at the location.
Do you have permission to use such shared printer?
Are you at work or at home?
Are you trying to use a printer on your Workgroup at the same time you connect to your company domain via VPN?
Are you on your company laptop?
Do you have permission granting you access to change administration functions on your company laptop.

The last one is very important because it would allow you to add your home printer to your laptop and you could use this printer any time you're connected over the VPN tunnel. If you can't get admin rights, then you need to bring the printer CD/DVD or have a support tech add your printer to your laptop. Ticket would need to be generated though? If required by your companies policies?

Hello!
I need some help in establishing Internet connection sharing. I've got 2 laptops. Both are WiFi and Ethernet enabled. The 3rd piece of hardware is a WiFi router (I call it a "modem"), which acts as a bridge basically at this point. It's this one here:
HUAWEI wireless home gateway HG 530 (its official title)
The Internet connection to the ISP is a wired PPPoE one. There's RJ-45 cable that enters our apartment from the outside (I assume that there's a major router that serves the whole building with Fiber Optic all the way down to ISP itself, but I'm not sure and it's irrelevant to my issue here). I used to connect that RJ-45 cable into an appropriate jack on one of the laptops and I have a PPPoE W7 connection (called a High Speed Connection in Windows environment). So I just "dial" that Internet connection with username and password provided to me by my ISP. It's a regular Ethernet connection as far as HG530 is concerned. Then I started using laptop's WiFi to reach the HG530. I still use the same Windows PPPoE connection for dialing. It saves me having a cable on the floor which (the cable) was reachable by my cat who likes to chew stuff. So that's what I have right now.
I want to make it clear that it's NOT a WiFi Internet connection (there're zillions of threads all over the Net how to share it -- I wouldn't be asking it AGAIN here!). Internet connection is still a wired one. It's the... Read more

Hello. 1st I'd like to excuse myself for possible grammatical fails in my problem, I'm not American nor Britainian so please accept my excuse.

Okay, here's the problem.

I'm connecting to internet via Wi-Fi USB adapter and my connection works great. But few days ago friend brought his PC to me so we could do some online gaming over night but there my problems started. We connected both PC's with ethernet cable in this scheme (My PC - ethernet cable - unset router - ethernet cable - his PC)

Okay the problem is that when I set up the LAN, I can't connect to the internet ( I noticed that I can surf the internet when I share my Wireless connection in advanced settings, so I use that trick to connect to the Internet when I need to ) but we can play in LAN.

So here's the real conflict. Why can't I share my internet connection to his PC. I allow my Wireless Network Connection sharing but he can't connect to the internet.

We're both using WinXP SP3 and we have almost same PC's. So can anyone help me?

I am even willing to use TeamViewer for easier help if someone can help me?

Well i finally got rid of my ntl 600k service because of inumerable problems and im waiting for my new "pipex" adsl BB service to be switched on,thing is my daughter who lives next door has been at me to connect our pc's together to share the connection.she has been advised that a simple network cable will suffice as long as my pc is switched on but as she would be a bit on the nocturnal side a separate cable would be required to enable her to use it while my pc is off.The distance involved woud be approx 15 mts and i would run any cables on the external wall.I run windows xp and the other pc runs windows me.If someone could advise on the simplest way i could achieve this i'd be eternally grateful. Many TIA.

If you use a router to connect the two computers then your computer will not need to be on, you connect your computer to one of the router ports and then connect the modem to the router and lastly connect your daughters PC to the router and she will be able to share without your PC being on.

My parents have a Dell desktop running windows XP and a new HP 64bit desktop running Windows 7 64bit. They have an actiontec wireless modem/router. I can connect the modem to the Dell computer and get an internet connection. I can move the modem to the other roon and connect it to the new computer and get an internet connection. I cannot get it to work on both.

I connected the modem to the HP computer using ethernet port 1 on the modem and the Dell on ethernet port 2 via a long ethernet cable. I cannot enable ICS on Win 7 because it doesn't see anything else connected. The Dell says nothing is connected to the LAN. Not sure what is going on unless the ethernet cable is bad or possibly too long. Any ideas?

Later this morning I am going to take a multimeter over and do a continuity check on the ethernet cable (I crimped the ends on) and make sure it is good. Am I correct is saying that it should be a "straight through" ethernet cable? Just wondering if there's any other setting I should check while I'm there.

You'll be plugging your wii into the computer for this.

1. Plug in your console (WII, Xbox 360, PS3) and allow it to acquiring ip address.
2. click on the Windows button and type "network and sharing center" and enter
3. on the left right under manage wireless networks, should say change adapter settings click that
4. right click local area connection and disable it.
5. right click local area connection and click properties.
6. there should be a tab that says sharing go to that tab.
7. there is a box that says allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection. uncheck it if it is checked.
8.hit ok then right click local area connection and enable it.
9 now select both your wireless network connection and the local area connection and right click and it should have the option to bridge connections. when you click bridge it will do its thing and should work when its done.

Hi. I'm having this problem in Windows 8 where I can't share the Internet with another PC, which runs Windows XP. My Internet connection name displays as "Unidentified network" which I think disables ICS and sharing altogether. I've also tried changing configurations in the HomeGroup and, although a second connection called "Network 2" set as "Private network" appears, it disappears after I reboot the PC. Any help please?

Answer:Can't share Internet connection

Maybe this tutorial will help. It helps to use a crossover cable for this connection but I believe there are ways around that. The second link shows settings more specific to setting up connection sharing with XP machines.
Internet Connection Sharing - Enable - Windows 7 Forums
Internet Sharing using Cross-Over cable - Windows 7 Forums

You will also want to leave the Home group if you set one up. Home groups are made for Windows 7 machines only.

If you need to share files between those machines you should set up a Workgroup using the same workgroup name for all machines in the workgroup.

Answer:Way to share my internet connection?

Here's a checklist of things for ICS and file sharing for 2 croslinked computers (This is what works for Win 7 and XP):

- both computers set to the same workgroup
- restarts
- advanced sharing settings - all things turned on (network discovery etc.) except for password protected sharing
- bridged the connection with the internet
- turned on Internet Connection Sharing for the internet connection - this forced an ip to the other connection (192.168.137.1) and gave an option to select which connection should have access to the ICS (the second connection or the bridge - you choose the second / crosslinked cable connection)
- shared some folders on both computers
- worked instantly (the other pc aquired a correct ip and internet)

I am trying to set up an internet connection share. I cant share files because the host pc is XP Pro with NTFS and the network pc is Windows 98 Fat32. When I did the setup the Wizard said I could use the XP disk in the 98 system to complete the task. I also followed the directions from this note,

Try this:
"Just plug the Crossover cable into the two computers. To set it up go to Control Panel/Network.

If there is and entry there for TCP/IP fine. If not you need to add it. Click Add the Protocal/Add. Select Microsoft and select TCP/IP and OK.

Once you have TCP/IP install highlight it and click properties. Click specifiy IP address and insert 192.168.000.001. Enter sub net mask of 255.255.255.000.

You may get asked if you want to re-boot at this stage. Decline as there is more to do.

Click File and Printer sharing and tick both boxes. Now you can re-boot.

Do the same on the other computer but this time enter an IP address if 192.168.000.002 with the same mask. Install file and printer sharing as well and reboot.

Once the computers have re-booted you need to set up sharing. Right click on any drive or folder in Windows Explorer and clcik Sharing. Click shared as: Either axcept the name offered or enter one of your own. In access type I would suggest Full if you are the only one to be using these computers, otherwise enter passwords if required.

Do this for every Dri... Read more

Hello. I got 2 computers at work and only one has internet connection.
So I have one with winxp sp1 installed and one with win98. Internet connection is on winxp on USB (PPP0E), and I cannot share (or I don't know what settings should make on win98). Can you help me?

Answer:how to share PPP0E connection ?

you would need to purchase a router to make the pppoe connection if you wish to share with both pcs at the same time. Or if your fine with only one having acces at anygiven time you would need to get a pppoe connection manager thats 98 compatible as win98 doesn't natively do pppoe like xp.

As long as one of your PCs has a WiFi card it can create its own wireless hot spot using Connectify.

I use it to connect my own iPhone to the internet when I'm too far from my router and it works a treat.

It allows you to be both connected to a router wirelessly and to be acting as a WiFi access point at the same time.

It is one of the most versatile networking apps out there.

In the room where my PC is, I also have my xbox. I do not have a wireless adaptor (yet) for my 360 and the cat cable coming into the room is just long enough to reach the pc. So if I want to go on live, I have to move the xbox near the cable and pull the cable from the back of the pc (which sucks if I need it while on live).

The motherboard that I have has 2 onboard NICs, is it possible to use one for an incoming network connection/to the router and use the other to connect my xbox to provide Internet access to it? How would one go about dong this? Thanks

Answer:Is it possible to share my pc's network connection w/ my 360?

Might be better to just pickup a cheap switch, and hook the PC and xbox up to it?

Can I share my internet connection by using a hub? I have a 5-port hub but no instructions on how to use it??? I want to be able to get online with both computers at the same time.
Can someone advise me if the hub will work or do I need something else? I have intermediate computer knowledge but know nothing about networking.

Answer:Share Internet Connection?

You need a broadband router for most broadband accounts.

I've recently networked two computers, a newer HP Pavilion (XP-h) and an older Compaq Presario (ME) using a d-link router. Both computers have a dial-up connection when needed (which is rare) but on occasions it would be nice to have both computers online at the same time.

Is there a way to do this? I know I could do it easily with a broadband connection, especially because I'm using a router anyway, but that's just not needed here.

thanks,
JTN

Answer:share a dial-up connection

you can do Internet Connection Sharing. You will have to choose which one will be the 'gateway', but I wouldn't recommend it on a dial-up service.

Actually I wouldn't recommend it period. It's a pain in the rear when something goes wrong.

to start off i am using one of thoes modems called the UM150 provided by verizon wireless, its a modem that connects to your computer through USB. it uses a software that you install on your computer to manage the internet connection.

what i am trying to do is "share" that connection with my xbox 360. but the only way my xbox accepts internet connection is through a ethernet cable, so my current setup is the UM150 to the USB port on my laptop, an ethernet cable from my laptop to a router, and my xbox is connected through the router also.

is there any way i can connect my xbox to the internet through my computer?

my xbox360 has a text connection program, it cannot discover a DNS

I already know the answer to this but I'm hoping there's something out there. Is there ANYWAY POSSIBLE to share a dial up connection through a windows 2000 domain?

Analog router is too much.

Answer:dial up share connection??!!

Well, I suppose you could. But why?

If you just made the connection on the main computer, you could then share it like you could a broadband connection. It would be no diffrent to setup.

Of course, it's going to be really slow if you share it. Any dialup connections have a tendency of cutting out a lot,so odds are pretty good it will keep going down.

I have two small offices in different location the far between each other around 5Km each office. What the diagram will be look like of the hardware and layout that you suggest for each location and if there is any choices could you explain why especially for the devices we will use and what brands and do i need a server or network printer if i need where it shuold be. thank you

Answer:How Do I Share An Internet Connection?

You want to share an internet connection between two small offices 5Km apart? 5Km as in 3+ miles? Contact your local telecommunication companies and see what they can offer.

I hope you have other reasons for wanting your own private network between these offices as any solution is going to be far more expensive than two internet connections.

We will shortly be getting Broadband from Wanadoo. We have a laptop in the house and a desktop in the office (50 metres away). Wireless connections would not be suitable because of thick stone walls. We need to access Broadband from either PC even if the other is switched off. We understand we will need a Router and Ethernet card for the desktop. Can anyone tell us how to connect all this kit together please and has anyone got a reccommendation for type of Router.

Just remember that you're bandwidth is going to be way dogged down trying to do this. We're talking zipolay bandwidth (OK, you'll have some, but probably just enough to frustrate you!)

Second, your Internet provider will definitely frown on this unless you use something (like a router) to mask the fact that you're using two systems at one time to access the Net. (Can't remember if Win9x or XP's Internet Connection Sharing does this masking automatically, but it seems to me that Win9x doesn't. I could be wrong).)

If you're using Win9x, you have to enable Internet Connection Sharing, I believe it is, in the Control Panel's Add/Remove Software: Click on the Windows tab and go to ... (have to look real quick ...) Internet Tools and enable Internet Connection Sharing. Too, firewalls may not work in this configuration either, so keep that in mind.

Hope this helps,

Honestly on WP10 I'm not sure if this is available yet. Remember this is a technical preview - that means alpha at best. Keep on the look out for updates and this will likely be included.

Alright, here's the situation. There is an internet connection across the street that me and the owner wish to share. But we would like to only share the internet, we want to keep our networks seperate and secure. Secondly, we must use wireless between the two points because there is no way to run wire.

That said I would like help choosing a good solution for this. I am trying to keep price down and used equipment is alright. Let me know what you think.

Here's my try at this

Cable Modem -> Linksys WRT54g (NAT/DHCP) -> LAN side 1

Cable Modem -> Linksys WRT54g (NAT/DHCP)(wireless yagi) --across street---> Wireless Bridge -> Monowall

Set the Wireless up with WPA security and set the Monowall up another NAT/DHCP serve

------

I think this problem could also be solved with subnetting. Let me know what you think.

Answer:Help me share an internet connection privately

You can easily disable network browsing using windows firewall, or most other firewalls. Set up the internet sharing normally using the router/wap, but in at control panel/windows firewall/exceptions uncheck the "file and printer sharing" box.

Note: only one dhcp/NAT solution per network.

are you trying to keep two seperate networks? If so you might need to bridge them... I would use only one network to keep it simple and just turn off file and printer sharing.

Hey...
I know that 1-way internet via satellite only has download and needs an upload source...If I have a broadband 128k connection (to be used as the upload source) and lets say, a 1mb connection via sat...how can I connect them both at the same time to the router, knowing that the router only has 1 port for the internet cable to be plugged-in?

Any help is much appreciated...

Answer:How can I share an Internet Via Sat (1-way) connection on several pcs? (router)

I don't know how you'd use a standard broadband router for this task. My guess is that you'll need to consider either ICS and a host Windows system, or perhaps a Linux rig of some sort. Since you have some sort of broadband, why not just increase the speed of that service and forget about the satellite connection?
