IE11/Edge problems with pdf download

Question: IE11/Edge problems with pdf download

We want to have a pdf file download on our website for IE11. PDF's seems to act differently on the various operating systems in the various browsers. Also how it is made has an effect: Microsoft 2010 vs Adobe DC on a Windows 7 OS. (we are also trying W10
os & MSWord10 to pdf) Most of our users are in IE. where how it is made makes no difference on a W10 machine. It just puts up blank pages for a long time. Any suggestions?

Microsoft 2010 doc W7 OS used to create a pdf loaded to a W2008 server:

Windows 7- downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 8 - downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 10 - blank page loaded with no text for many minutes in Edge, fast in Chrome and Firefox
Note - this is with Acrobat DC Reader installed - the Word version worked before the update
In Design to Adobe DC created pdf W7OS loaded to a W2008 server:

Windows 7- takes many minutes in IE11 (seems to hang midway), fast in Chrome, fast in FirefoxWindows 8 - downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 10 - blank page loaded with no text for many minutes in Edge, many minutes in Chrome, fast in Firefox

Preferred Solution: IE11/Edge problems with pdf download

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have posted this question/complaint on another thread, but I have been locked out. So I'll try again. Why can't Microsoft fix the Edge import process to reliably import all favorites from IE 11? I have tried all the workarounds including copying the IE 11 favorites to the <username>/appdata/local...directory and the editing the Registry. Nothing works. Why should it be so difficult for MS to implement a reliable Favorites transfer? What is the point of using Edge, when IE 11 is more friendly?

Any thoughts/suggestions? I have been using Windows 10 for over a year and the problem persists.

Answer:Problems Importing Favorites into Edge from IE11

Well, you didn't really tell us what problems you were having with performing the import.

So, let's skip the diagnosis and jump right to an alternative approach...

You might consider using a 3rd-party application called EdgeManage to see if you have better luck with performing an import operation from Internet Explorer.

I have a new HP Envy running W8.1 64-bit and IE11 with Windows Defender. By default SmartScreen Filter and Protection Mode are enabled.
Any free utility I try to download starts, but then I get message "download interrupted" or "publisher not recognized."
I'm mainly trying to download the latest free Advanced System Care at this time.
Also, I'm getting "this page can't be displayed" for an alarming number of routine websites.
I tried disabling SmartScreen and Protection Mode but it didn't solve the problems.
Would appreciate any advice on these issues.
Thanks TSG members!

Answer:Windows 8.1 IE11 download and website problems

I can't help on your current issues, but my advice for avoiding some future problems is to not install Advanced System Care.

Have you installed any other free utilities (that could be causing your current problems)? Or any problematic browser Add-ons?

(NOTE:  Links open in a new tab.)
In the TechNet article
here I see reference to a schema v.2 for the EMIE tool. It will apparently spit out the xml using the new version 2 of the schema. But the download link only goes to downloads for Win7/8 (schema v.1), and I cannot find any reference to where I can obtain
the Windows 10 version.
For example,
this article specifically references a Windows 10 version, where
this one references Windows 7 and 8.  Finding the Windows 10 version has proven impossible so far.
We have several sites which need to be opened in IE instead of Edge, and using our old Enterprise Mode site list is not working on our Windows 10 clients.
Current site list example:
<rules version="4">
    <emie>
          <domain exclude="false">www.contoso.com</domain>
    </emie>
</rules>

Etc.
Reading about the
v.2 schema leads me to think that the output from the tool is incorrect.  The documentation suggests that the output for Windows 10 should be:

<site-list version="205">
  <site url="www.contoso.com">
    <compat-mode>IE8Enterprise</compat-mode>
    <open-in>IE11</open-in>
  </site>
</site-list>

Or am I missing something here?

edge seems massively dumbed down, very bare options configuration compared to IE11.

From what I can see all of the following are missing.

No options to toggle tls 1.1 1.0 1.2 etc.
No options to toggle gpu acceleration
No options to set file cache location (I like to use ram disk)
No security zones
No tracking protection lists
No addons
No advanced cookie settings
No per domain settings
No options to adjust certificate verification
No options to adjust UTF-8 and IDN
No toggle for crash protection
No tab options

Basically edge feels like a mobile orientated app, as it uses the "modern" interface.

Is there a reason to use edge instead of IE11? aside from future proofing as I am assuming IE11 at some point will be obsoleted by Microsoft.

Answer:is it me or is ie11 better than edge?

Edge is still very early in it's development cycle.. give it time and it will get much better.

Oh and I'm using it right now to post here and I like it.. very fast and clean.

Question: IE11 vs. Edge

Does anyone know of a good source that explains the difference between IE11 and Edge? Pretty much all I've gathered is that Edge isn't as compatible with as many web-sites as IE11. Why the introduction of a new browser? Why isn't it more compatible?

Answer:IE11 vs. Edge

Browser Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11 (Windows 10)

IE has become a failure and MS is trying to start over with a new browser, Edge. This is a ground up design of a new browser and it's looking good right now for a browser that's only about a year old. I've been using it for some time and it's been a good experience for me at least.

I am having problems on my laptop using things like Cortana across user accounts. The wheel spins and spins when I click on Cortana. I think the problem stems from the fact edge and IE11 cannot load outlook.com or go into things like account settings. It's only this causing the issue, all other sites work apart from these critical MS sites. I've tried changing DNS settings to alternates like google but nothing works to fix this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated? On my other desktop PC I have no issues. All language settings and packs are correctly set as UK. Am at a total loss. I tried a restore point but that was no better. I've had this issue crop up intermittently ever since getting the laptop. Sometimes it works ok but after a while the issue will re-occur without rhyme or reason. I notice under family setitngs 'Can't connect to family settings, your user data may not be upto date' sometimes comes up too. It's as if the laptop is having trouble connecting to MS server some of the time

Answer:Outlook.com unreachable via edge and IE11

The machine seems to be having real problems signing into MS. For example if I launch films and TV I see lower left 'Can't sign in'. I think there is something amiss logging into the MS account causing all the issues. Store is slow and unable to update apps, always an error message after ages of acquiring license. I don't really want to have to try and create a new user acc given everything I have setup/installed

Is there a way of signing out of the MS account and signing back in because something is seriously screwed up

Cheers

If I use Edge, the print options do not include the ability to print in Booklet form.

Hi all,
Requesting your votes to get the WebRTC in IE11/Edge:https://windowsphone.uservoice.com/f...port-of-webrtcWebRTC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
All of Skypes biggest competitors are moving towards plugin-free browser calling features, and Redmond is finally admitting it has no choice but to do the same. In Microsofts own words: Its all about convenience imagine youll be able to simply open IE and make a Skype call to friends, family, or get real-time support for that new device right from your browser.
Both Google and Mozilla are way ahead of Microsoft in this area, both in terms of adding WebRTC features to their respective browsers and in terms of building plugin-free calling services that rely on the technology. In short, Skype is under threat, and Microsoft has finally decided to opt for an If you cant beat em, join em strategy.http://venturebeat.com/2014/10/27/mi...rnet-explorer/

Hi Folks
Be extra careful currently as there is STILL a problem in security with IE11 and Edge which can allow "unscrupulous" users to hijack your browser / do other nasty things - and currently NO A/V software can protect against this.

BE VERY CAREFUL if using IE11 / EDGE until Ms applies the patch. DO NOT RELY SOLEY ON YOUR A/V SOFTWARE - this won't protect you in this case. People are often lulled into a false sense of security after installing some extra A/V software -- this actually makes them MORE likely to fall into traps than people who only have the base WD stuff installed but browse carefully. !!!

Here's the article - from BBC (and Google) so it's not from some dubious journalist writing for a magazine hoping to make a few bucks.

I posted this note also in the Browsers section as some people don't read this part of the Forum.

Has anyone figured a way to turn this crap off?

Yes, I know that Edge is Microsoft's "preferred" browser. No, I'm not interested. I need IE for work purposes because of legacy ActiveX components, so that annoying icon does no good.

I'm trying to get the new build ready for work on our domain, but considering all our employees heavily use IE every day, this is going to get on everybody's nerves and fast!

I tried copying the iexplore.exe from Anniversary Update (1607) to 1703 VM, and got an error about a missing ordinal in the EXE. So I'm thinking they added it that way - not seeing any settings, GPOs, or any other way to turn it off.

Even better when you're logged in as the local Administrator account which cannot run Edge or any other Modern apps but the stupid icon still shows up and is completely useless

Answer:Running windows 10 AEd . confused over IE11 and EDGE

Windows 10 comes with both IE11 and Edge built in. Edge is Microsoft's recommended browser and the one where all future development will concentrate. But the business world would throw up their hand in horror if IE was removed - many bespoke company Intranet applications will only work with IE because only IE can run Microsoft ActiveX controls. Indeed Microsoft's own Update Catalog website will only work with IE for the same reason.

You have IE if you really need it but MS don't really want you to use it, so it's hidden away on an infrequently visited part of the All Apps list. It's to be found under 'Windows Accessories'. The only other place you can find it is (ironically) in Edge. Open any webpage, click on the 'three dots' icon at the top right and one of the items in the menu that appears is 'Open with Internet Explorer'. However you get to it, once running you can pin it to the taskbar.

But finding IE isn't necessarily going to help you fix Edge's video problems, the settings you need to change may be in Edge, not IE. It's not clear what you mean by 10 A.Ed. Can you type Winver in the search box next to Start and run it. To be of more help we need to know the full set of numbers shown there for the version and OS build.

What I can tell you is that for my version 1607 (OS Build 14393.187) Edge has no such problems showing videos from MSN.

Hi there

While Silverlight is as everybody knows RUBBISH it IS a requirement for watching SKY GO on Windows. Sky GO on Android doesn't use it so It must be possible for Ms to have some other method of protecting DRM material.

So (and SKY GO is used by loads of SKY customers --particularly for Sport and Movies) as EDGE which (intentionally) doesn't support Silverlight people will have to keep IE11 for the foreseeable future - unless one wants to use CHROME - which I don't really like --YMMV on this one of course.

If Ms wants people to switch as quick as possible to EDGE they need to get current applications to work with it.

At least though SKY GO works on W10 !!.

(For those who don't know what SKY GO is - it's the service from the U.K Satellite Broadcaster SKY that people can use to stream programs on to their tablets, computers and phones - quite a good service BTW if you have SKY TV.

Good on some Rail services too in UK where trains have fast Wi-Fi available !!!

Hello,

I am unable to access Sign in to your Microsoft account on my desktop computer running Windows 10 on a home Ethernet network using Edge and IE11. I am connected to the Internet through a Fritz!Box 7490 DSL connection.

I originally tried to solve this problem as a network issue - and it may still turn out to be one - but since I am able to log in to my live.com account using Google Chrome on this computer and from Linux and OS X machines on the network, I am now looking at the possibility that it is some setting shared by Edge and IE11 that is causing my problem.

A secondary effect of this problem is that I am unable to activate Office 365 products, because once I enter my account email address, the activation process wants to take me to live.com to confirm my subscription.

I have seen a number of posts on this and other sites about the "Hmm..." messages, and that's the message I am shown when I try to access login.live.com. Since, in all of the other posts, the issue was a complete inability of Edge to access the sites, this seems to me to be something different. Thus, I started a new thread rather than add to one of the others.

I will be grateful for any and all suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Yesterday I was forced to reboot my computer as MS installed some Windows Updates. After the reboot I can no longer access google.com's main page and some other https site like my companies Citrix Storefront login page. These all worked before the forced update. There were 2 updates installed KB3142588 and KB3140768. I uninstalled the KB3142588 and rebooted and everything worked again. Later in the day again MS installed something and forced me to reboot. After the reboot, the same problem came back. Funny thing now, is that those 2 updates are no longer there and were replaced by others. One of them I could uninstall and the other I cannot. I uninstalled the one (didn't write done the KB#) and rebooted and still the same problem. It only really seems to be issues with some https sites. I can't believe that there is a problem with googles certificate.

I get a "There is a problem with this website's security certificate". The security certificate presented by this website is not secure. Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept and data you send to the server.

I cannot just accept the cert nor can I look at it like I could in Windows 7.

Hi there

What a DOGS DINNER of a mess -- SKY GO is still using Silverlight for DRM - however it's deprecated in Windows so sooner or later IE11 won't work with it. Edge of course doesn't work with it, and the non Ms browsers seem randomly to work or not work.

This is NOT an Ms problem though -- surely SKY could use similar DRM / Copyright protection to NETFLIX etc - since the ANDROID application works without any problem whatsoever they must be using something other than Silverlight.

I only suspect that SKY would rather get people to sign up to their SKY Q service -- it's fine but not very portable if you want to watch on a laptop instead of on a small tablet or smart phone.

If Ms would RETIRE Silverlight completely then SKY would be forced to fix SKY GO for their customers !!!!

I suppose the words Customer and Service should probably be removed from the English Language or relegated tp a History archive as it seems with pretty well ANY service one subscribes to there is just about ZERO customer service available any more.

Cheers

Answer:SKY GO - edge, IE11 and silverlight What a dogs dinner of a mess

Silverlight is expected to have a long life-cycle:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...arch/?c2=12905

compatibility issues are always on the agenda, given that rs3 builds are going deeper into underlying code
I suspect we may see improvements further down the line, at present I am getting hints that Edge is not fully compatible yet..

- no doubt, there will be more on this subject in the coming months..

Cheers,
hussar

Microsoft has announced that (the embedded) Flash for IE11/ActiveX & Edge on Win10 was finally updated to 20.0.0.272

https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/2755801
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3133431

Remark:   Based on the change in wording in the above document... as well as "confirmed" on my Win8.1 tablet... there has NOT (yet?) been a corresponding update for Win8.x

Answer:Updates 1/5/16 - Flash for IE11/ActiveX & Edge on Win10

So to summarize the Flash confusion at present:
the current Flash plug-in version (non-IE browsers) is 20.0.0.267
The current IE/ActiveX version for Win 7 and earlier is 20.0.0.270
The temporary [?] version for IE10/11 on Windows 8.x is also 20.0.0.267 ; an update was expected, but has not been released as of this writing (6 January 2016, 12:40pm EST).
The current IE11/ActiveX and Edge version for Win 10 is [allegedly] 20.0.0.272

I would like to replace working certificate for the localhost (127.0.0.1), with an end date in a few months. (Win10 - Edge - IE11)
I managed to create a certificate (made a copy form the previous one with Powershell), and imported it in the list of Trusted Root Certificates. I removed the previous certificate.

But Edge (and IE11 since I suppose Edge has no support for this yet) is still pointing to the old certificate.
Does anyone know how to make the browsers point to the new certificate?

Hi there

Is there any way to copy the stored passwords / account information saved in IE11 to edge

I've a couple of account logins (not Banks I hasten to add) on some sites where I can't remember all the details -- logon automatically in IE11 but I need to try EDGE a bit more now and can't remember those details.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:Copy saved passwords / account info from IE11 to Edge

You should be able to find them in Manage Web Credentials in Control Panel. If there are only a couple you can click on "Show" and it will tell you your password and then you can enter it in Edge.

Both Edge and IE store user id/passwords here I believe but I'm not sure how to make one browser use the credentials saved by the other or even if you can.

OS: Windows 10 Pro v.1607
Suddenly Pinterest.com fails to load in Edge; a few pins appear but then the page freezes. This same Pinterest account works fine in IE on this same computer and also loads fine in Edge on other computers. Here is what I've tried without success:

1. Clear browser cache and cookies
2. Delete all files in Edge recovery folder
3. Sign in with another Pinterest user account
4. Sign in with local account instead of Microsoft Account
5. Removed saved password for Pinterest
6. Reboot computer

Edge performs perfectly with all other sites. This issue is apparently limited to this one site in this one browser on this one computer. Pinterest support suggested we use IE Of course, but I like to figure out what causes these things to happen. It may be irrelevant but this issue was first observed following a batch of Windows updates on 12/13/16. The only one that looked like a remote possibility was KB3206632, but that was a significant cumulative update that I really do not want to uninstall. Furthermore, that same update was applied to another computer which does not exhibit this issue. I'm out of ideas. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Regards,
John

You've tried all the obvious things I would have suggested, but there is one more you could have a look at, the 'Use Microsoft Compatibility List' setting. This is hidden on a 'Developer settings' page which you get to by typing about:flags in Edge's address bar. Are the 'working' Edge PCs also on 1607? If so, compare this settings page on the Edge that doesn't work with the settings for one that does and see if they are different. If only the 'non-working' Edge is on 1607, then try turning 'Use Microsoft Compatibility List' on or off and see if it makes a difference.

Hello,
I'm encountering a problem on different computers.
Internet Explorer 11 and Edge are not able to open files from a shared folder located on the same computer.
For example, let's say I typed this "\\10.100.100.10\folder_1\DOC_FILE.doc" on the address bar.
The browser then shows : "This page can't be displayed".
When I display more information, the error "INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND" appears.
I have already tried to uncheck "Enable TCP Fast open" and it is still not working.
It seems like this problem cannot be reproduced on all IE11/EDGE browsers, and can be encountered on both Windows 7 and Windows 10.
Any ideas ?
Best regards

I belong to a forum where we sometimes post a music video, and I never had problems until a couple of days ago seeing a video that was downloaded to the forum in full-screen mode.

It happens in IE11 and Edge browsers, and just started. A couple of other people are having the same problems. The error message actually blocks the title of the video, so you can't read who it is.

Any idea how to go in these browsers and change the permissions to view full screen for YouTube videos even if they're on another site? On YouTube, the full screen works fine.

I haven't changed any settings at all in the last couple of days. Any advice appreciated.

I setup a new user on a stand-alone Windows 10 laptop this weekend and noticed that most websites hang in both Edge and IE11.  I had a look at the user's rights and made sure that they were removed from the local USERS group and only were a member of
the Administrators group.  Then I looked at IE itself and found that if I ran IE as administrator, it worked fine, so I logged the user out and back in again, and still nothing.  I also noticed that IE has a setting to run with administrative privileges,
which I enabled and still nothing.  I thought at this point that it might be a website issue, or at least an ISP issue.  I tried the same sites with the first logged in account on the same machine and everything worked fine.
At this point I was looking at a user rights issue, I thought.  Then I tried the same sites with the new user using Chrome and everything worked fine.  So I'm at a loss as to what this might be.  I've check that IE is using software rendering
so that's not the issue.
Any ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
An example of a site would be to go to www.webex.com then try to log in.  The login page just spins and spins.

Hi guys.

I hope I'm posting in the correct section, if not please move?

I've searched this forum but nothing useful shows.

If I download a large file with IE11 (I don't want to install any download managers) is there any option to keep it downloading without having the browser open. The pop up window at the bottom sometimes disappears so you don't know if its still downloading or not, can that be shown again?

On my WinXP IE8 desktop the download box is a separate item which you can move anywhere. You can close the browser and it still downloads. I don't see anything in Internet Options.

Thanks, Keith.

Hello everyone,

I am facing this nasty problem that IE11 on Win7 can't download anything. I tried to download malwarebytes, but it gives a return "Unable to download". This goes with anything else for downloading. I use AVG, and disabled Firewall and all other components, to no avail. I used USB drive to get the latest malwarebytes from other machine and run it, with no threats found, otherwise clean. I restored the system to 19th of June to make sure it skips the trouble, but this also didn't correct it. I followed the advice from this link, IE9 won't download files but the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" checkbox is already unchecked from the beginning in my case, yet this trouble still persists. I wonder if anyone still have some more idea, please.

Thanks,

Rob

Hello!

I've seen some similar posts on this Forum, but haven't come across a fix for it yet. As the title states, I (Users Laptop) Can't Download anything Using IE11, but can with Chrome. When a different user logs onto the computer, they can download using IE. I suspect the profile is the issue, but why would IE be the only thing that a "corrupted profile" is displaying? No other issues are present, but the IE11 issue. The issues seem to have started last week when the user installed window updates and possibly a couple program updates. The Window updates were installed company wide and no known issues have been seen on other computers.

What I've tried:
I've tried resetting IE
Uninstalling and reinstalling of 11 and even 10
Ran sfc scannow
Did disk check
Scanned with Malwarebytes, rkill, adwcleaner, others
Ran various Microsoft Fix It's
Swore a bunches of times
I might have left some out as I've tried so many things.

Truly stuck. Is it possible that a corrupted profile would only have that one issue? Just seems odd that a bad profile would just have one issue like this.

The laptop belongs to management and therefore its difficult at times to gain access to. I usually get time when he goes to lunch or is in a meeting.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Scott

Using Windows 7, I can't get IE11 to download anything except in safe-mode with networking, where everything works fine. Have run multiple virus scans, malware scans, esset scan, and ADW scan, but problem persists. Now I've run Farbar Recovery tool--FRST--scan, but have no idea what to do with the results and certainly don't want to proceed with anything until I have guidance. Not even sure if I should post those results as far as privacy, so will await some guidance. It seems to have found quite a bit of problems.

I am having an issue where I installed IE11 and it is working perfectly under my profile. However when I log into the system under any other profile IE11 download manager will only work in safe mode with networking. I have already tried Ctrl+J, it doesn't openI have checked the security setting and file download is enabled.I have deleted all history/cookies/etc.I have deleted the profile and started with a fresh one..Turned off all non essential startup items restarted, still no luck...So far every thing I have tried to do to resolve this has failed. If I uninstall the software change the profile to the account that didn't work and reinstall the software it works on that profile, when I switch to the profile that did work previously it doesn't work now.All other browsers work properly, but this does not resolve the issue as we have a few programs that require IE to function.I am really running out of ideas on this one, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:IE11 Download Manager Not working

I found the solution.... all previous versions of IE would allow the users to share a locations for their temp internet files. There was a GPO that changed the Temp internet file location to the temp folder on C: for all users.IE 11 & Edge do not like sharing the location and if a GPO sets the location and IE11 sees that a user already has that location taken then it will leave the Current Location of the Temp internet files blank in the General settings. Why they wouldn't have the system simply create a new folder for each user under the same root I have no idea... also why IE wouldn't send an alert that says "Cannot access temp internet file location" when it runs especially if it requires it to do anything significant..(download files, developer tools etc.) is also beyond me.But I wanted to send out the update to let anyone else who is having this problem know to check you temp internet file folder location if you can't get things to download.

This is a internal Website, has two AP server.
production server : Windows Server 2008 + IIS 7.5
test server : Windows Server 2008 standard + IIS 7
both use .aspx and ,aspx.vb, and all applications are same version, use Excel file to be report template.

When I use Win7 + IE8 (or Firefox, Chrome) on both Website to generate report, all can download or open. when I upgrade to IE11, some step to generate report, but some report can not be download, only on production server, on test server, every report
all can download.

1. when finish generate report, on bottom will show a status bar, and have three button [Open] [Save] [Cancel]
2. Click Open or Save, status bar will show can't download and button change to [Retry] [Cancel] [View Download]
3. Click Retry, file can be download, but content was wrong, all will be replace by Web Page.

I try to do this on another PC, same result.
Is application need to modify? or change IIS setting? or need do anything?

I have approximately 3 end users who receive the pop up window when downloading. The issue is, nothing happens when they click any of the options.  "Open" and "Save" simply get rid of the prompt, and "Save As" opens a dialog
box to browse to a spot to save, but it does not save.  It isn't a Windows group or a group policy otherwise we'd have more than a handful of users with the issue. Firefox is an alright workaround but we use IE11 in our environment so it's not
a permanent option.
How do I rid my users of this pop-up and have them always receive the orange ribbon at the bottom of their screen?

We have a web application deployed at customer's server (jQuery at front + Java/Tomcat on back). The problem we experience in this environment is that when IE 11 opens one page of application it downloads all javascripts from the server and then execute
all of them but not the particular one.
We've found the javascript in the list of downloaded files in Network tab of IE11 Developer Tools. IE11 get the file with HTTP Status 200 (not from cache).
But we do not see the javascript in the list of loaded files in Debuger tab. The functions defined in this javasctipt file does not exists in scope of the page. The event handlers defined in this javascript file are never called.
Why IE11 can refuse to execute already downloaded javascript ?
Is any way to diagnose what happens when IE11 want to execute downloaded javascript ?

Hi guys,
We are having a problem with a customer that has File Downloads disabled for the internet zone but added our website into trusted websites (with file download enabled) and can't download files.
Our files are sent received on a javascript fuction as blobs and we are using msSaveOrOpenBlob in the case of IE11 but no matter what we try, even if our website is on the Trusted Sites we always get "hello.txt couldn't be downloaded".
The following is a quick and dirty sample of what we are doing. This works fine with file downloads enabled in the internet zone.
var content = "Hello world";
var filename = "hello.txt";
var blob = new Blob([content], { type: "text/plain" });
window.navigator.msSaveOrOpenBlob(blob, filename);

TL;DR;
We have a website with IE11 settings set to:
Internet Zone -> File Download disabled.
Trusted Sites -> File Download enabled.
Out site is added to the Trusted Sites zone.
With the function above we always get "hello.txt couldn't be downloaded", even though our website is on the Trusted Sites zone. If we enable file downloads on the internet zone this works just fine but for security reasons our customer can't do
that.
Any ideas?

Hi there

IE11 seems to have a strange "Feature". When you close a Web site with an active download the whole thing closes and the download disappears -- IE 11 shows no windows open.

However press CTRL+J and you'll see the download lists again. If there's no activity press PAUSE and then press RESUME and then it should continue from where it stopped.

To some this might seem obvious but I've seen people re-start a 2hr download because they thought they had lost their currently active download when they accidentally closed the web site.

Cheers

This is my first time so forgive if Im screwing it up. While reviewing bank docs (this has happened more than once BTW) I keep getting a message that my "current browser" doesn't support this site) & then proceeds to give me 3 options IE11 (which I am partial to IE), Google Chrome, and one other that I cannot remember. I tried to download IE11 but I keep getting a pop up advising that in order to download IE11 I must have have Windows 7 SP1 downloaded. OK, I have my PC set to Windows automatically update by going into my control panel and clicking on Windows Update----after about 45 minutes I get a "reply" thats really just a blank page so I assume I have no updates. Prior to having Windows 7 Professional, I had Home Premium. I started having issues with Windows not automatically updating BEFORE I upgraded to Professional (I took it to a professional to upgrade for me and check everything out) and everything was fine for a while so as my dearly departed father used to say to me when I was a teenager & my car broke down "it's not the short between the seat and the steering wheel". This is driving me nutz. Further, this doesn't happen all the time, just about every other time I access the site (which is about every other day). Can someone PLEASE help me? Hi guys. I have a problem with Internet Explorer 11. It tries to download every web page I visit. Now I can't open the Get Windows 10 app and I can't log in to my Microsoft Account in OneNote 2013. I tried to reset IE using Internet Options, but clicking on it in Control Panel or in Internet Explorer doesn't do anything.
Microsft Fix it 50195 (for reseting IE) says:

Quote:
There was a problem starting inetcpl.cpl
Invalid access to memory location.

I ran a boot-time scan with Avast and it found one thread (Win32:Rootkit-gen [Rtk]) in the file C:\Program Files\Tbccint\ToolbarService\ToolbarService.exe and moved it to the chest.

I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it found a few PUP-s (a few where some of my Chrome extensions).
I used System Restore to restore my PC a few days back but it couldn't complete the restoration (although it uninstalled some of my programs).

A few days later I ran again a boot-time scan with Avast and it didn't find any threads.

Btw. between the scans on the 24th and 28th I only installed HexChat.

Should I try to restore my PC using System Restore in Safe Mode? Or does someone have another idea?

Hello,
we are soon to rollout IE11 (currently IE9 is in use). One question came up while testing the IE11 configuration: When you download a file (for eg pdf or docx) sometimes you can choose between "save, open, cancel", sometimes only "open, cancel",
sometimes only "save, cancel".
Which group policy is responsible for the possibilities? Even in local intranet zone we sometimes don't have all three options?!
Thanks for any help
Jan

Answer:How to configure download options in IE11 (save, open, cancel)

Any idea why?

The way I see it:  You say you don't want it cached, so the only thing you can do is save it; otherwise it could be reused for rendering.

I'm attempting to deploy IE11-Windows6.1-x64-en-us.exe to various PCs across the network using Win7 64bit. It is using setup arguments: /quiet /closeprograms /norestart

But many fail with errors like this:

00:04.727: INFO:    Released Internet Explorer Installer Mutex

Even though the PC is on the network and connected to the internet. Attempted various reboots, but did not solve the issue. How can this install be fixed so it smoothly deploys on all PCs?

The logged on user and the user deploying the installer are full admins.

Hi,
1. I cannot find a solution for a problem accessing Microsoft forums websites from Windows 10 - IE11 and Edge browsers:
in EDGE - Hmm, we can't reach this page.   IE11 this page can't be displayed.
For about a year it worked at least from Edge. Now both cannot access Microsoft forums. All the other sites are accessible.
I am using a corporate proxy. The same sites are accessible from Windows 7 with IE11.
First I blamed our IE GPO with multiple settings. So for a test I placed my machine in Blocked OU (no IE GPO, proxy is set from different GPO).
Everything what I tried didn't help. The question: why just Microsoft forums (no other sites) are not accessible.
Did couple of tests from Windows 7 IE11 machines. The same Microsoft forums are perfectly accessible (all GPOs are applied).
Suddenly, found that one corporate Web App does the same : "This  page can't be displayed". On other Windows 7 it does work.
I am out of ideas now... cannot blame anymore our GPO or proxy...
Any advice?
Thanks

I have 7 email accounts on our Exchange server for different business and personal roles.  I have always used OWA instead of Outlook to segregate accounts on my desktop.  For quick logins I have been using "Keyboard Express"
Macro program  to insert USER and PASSWORD into OWA.   With some update applied in December 2015, Keyboard Express no long works on most of my Macro hotkeys because the IE hotkeys have taken precedence.  Such as ALT-H and other.
This same think happened to IE11 when I ran the Windows 10 upgrade 2 months ago, so I restored Win7 with a disk image to get rid of Window 10.
Is there a way to assign precedence between a Macro Program and IE11 Hotkeys ?

Hello,
I have a problem.
I recently updated a workstation to IE11 as one of our programs requires IE 10 or above to work properly. that is fine.
the problem now is that we have a secondary link that was using IE6 and it runs fine in IE6, after my upgrade to IE11 it does NOT load the page properly.. missing bottom page fields.
I copy and compare all active settings, trusted sites settings... etc.
What else can I do?
Can I use 2 different IE versions on windows 7?

The first solution than I tried I use the method beginQuoteFileUnquoteUpload1 it created me a good boundary and good Content-Type but when I receive the file. The file is corrupted :(

var formData = new FormData();
formData.append('file', document.getElementById('file').files[0], document.getElementById('file').files[0].name);

function beginQuoteFileUnquoteUpload1(data)

}else{

return;

anyone seen this one?
on booting up 8.1, lenovo z410, the first few attempts to use IE11 from the desktop fail. "cannot open page".
connection troubleshooter produces nothing.

go to APPS > IE and it works fine.

after using chrome and the tile app for awhile, IE11-Desktop will gain coherency and start working.

is there a way to reinstall the desktop side?

this is a clean install with little/nothing loaded on it, about to be deployed for real work so its important.
I've never seen this issue before on 7/8 so kinda lost/bewildered

Answer:IE11 Desktop fails connection. IE11 Tile App succeeds

Maybe can not get that page immediately, try setting blank page for start-up. (about:blank) and than as a start page.

I have a problem scrolling on some sites when using either my Microsoft wheel mouse or the Page Down key. This is mostly, but not always, when filling in fields to order goods. When I scroll down the page distorts. I have tried using the Tab key to go from field to field which is OK until I have to place the order. If the relevant button is out of sight, then the Tab key won't reveal it and Page Down distorts the page. If I refresh the page (F5) then all the fields are cleared and I have to start again with the same distortion problems re-occurring. It doesn't happen on every site I visit, just some.
Smooth scrolling is ticked in the advanced option for IE11. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello there! First let me say thanks to everyone who recently attempted to help me out with my issue in this thread: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/my-google-has-gone-rogue.296520

After running through the "Malware Removal Guide" and confirming it was not malware related, I've been advised o start fresh here and see if I can get answers to the problem. I'll recap everything I'm experiencing with my original issue, and the new issue that popped up as a result of the steps from the "Malware Removal Guide." Hopefully I can nip this in the bud once and for all.

ISSUE #1:

Last week during a routine Google search, I noticed something extremely strange. When trying to find out a good port to make outgoing calls with Skype, I found my results returned from Google were completely erratic. The first several at the top of the page we're almost as if the system had returned some kind of hi-jacked adware page. However, if you scrolled down just a bit, it would pick up the normal search results. I did some tests and found this happens in the BOTH Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, but not in Firefox (also using other search quarries besides the one relating to Skype).

I know this may be hard to follow from the description above, so allow me to illustrate things.

When typing the phrase "best port for Skype" into the Google search bar using Firefox, it gives me a normal results page like so:

Now, if I were to type... Read more

Hi there

I mainly use KONQUEROR in Linux KDE desktop as my browser now so am un affected with the latest security scares of IE. Now more than ever people should NOT use IE on XP.

(Conspiracy theory here - I just LOVE them. : Maybe Ms PAID some hackers to generate the problem to force people to upgrade quickly -- if 30% of computers are STILL on XP that's a LOT of money for Ms -- a few million dollars out of the back door probably would be money well spent - or "Invested").

Konqueror also gives you the choice of rendering - Webkit or KHTML too.

Cheers

Any type of download from any site while in Edge will not download. When I click on Download nothing happens. I'm having to open Chrome if I want to Download anything at all. Thanks

Answer:Can't Download in Edge

This quite often happens to me. To fix it sign on as a different user and delete this (hidden, system) directory for your normal account (replacing <normal user name> with the account name having the problem).

C:\Users\<normal user name>\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache

You could use the built in administrator account to do this. Enable it, sign off your account and onto the Administrator account, delete the directory, sign off Administrator and back into your account and then disable Administrator again.

If you don't want to use it, just leave it.
However, if you have problem using Edge, try this tutorial :
How to Reinstall and Re-register Microsoft Edge in Windows 10https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html
Right click at Start > select Windows Powershell > copy/paste the following command >
Get-AppXPackage -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register ?$($_.InstallLocation) \AppXManifest.xml? ?Verbose
> press Enter
When finished, close PowerShell, and try using Microsoft Edge again.

Answer:How do I download EDGE

AFAIK....Edge is not a stand alone software that can be downloaded. It's strictly a part of Windows 10. If you have Windows 10 then you already have Edge.

Good Afternoon,

I am running into issues trying to upgrade to IE11. It looks like there are several issues in my CheckSUR Log, but I am not sure how to fix them. I have ran SFC /scannow a couple times and no errors have been identified. I have been having this problem for a couple months now and have just been using Chrome. I have also had several issues with the Aero Effects and Themes as I have to troubleshoot that multiple times a day.
I am receiving error code '3FD' from Windows Update regarding IE11.

Attached is my log.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Answer:IE11 Update/Install Issue - Trying to Upgrade to IE11

hello and welcome skohon now personally I would download IE11 Download Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 from Official Microsoft Download Center - it says on my machine I already have it if yours does the there is something quite wrong.

If it is not on your machine then you save the above to downloads and then do what is in this Install or uninstall Internet Explorer - Windows Help

I have done this myself on odd occasions and it saves you having to muck around with updates.

First you might like to run this though in safe mode if necessary
Disk Check and run the /f and /r switches if necessary.

Hi

Have just installed windows 10 on both my PC and laptop. Edge in PC allows file download.

On my laptop, Edge always throws error message that file couldn't be downloaded and I cannot work out why.

Does anyone have any clues as to what might be causing this? As far as I know there is nothing that I have done differently on PC as to laptop. Same O/S, virus scanner and anti-malware on both.

Answer:Edge Will not download any files

Go to Control Panel ---> Internet Options ---> Settings,

Verify Location that the path is on the C:\ Drive

My son sends me pictures by Email, which I want to save!

Is there a method of doing this in Edge?

I realize the security risk in saving things, but there must be a way of doing it!

In general, any picture you can see in Edge can be saved by right-clicking on it and selecting 'Save picture as'. You don't say which Email you use, but for a web-based email such as Yahoo! Mail there is also a 'download attachments' button somewhere on the email you are reading.

I know how to set other folder than DOWNLOADS to be the default folder for downloading content from internet using Edge. However, I was wondering if that can be changed all the way so I get to choose download location every single time I download something, or can it be made to work as "save as"?
I download different stuff and I hate going into the downloads folder, and then moving files I want elsewhere...
Is there a possibility not to have a predetermined download folder in the first place?

Answer:Download location using Edge

How do you change the default folder from downloads to other folder of choice?
ATM you cant have a pre determined folder or for that matter a save as option either.

Sometime over the past couple of days I have lost the ability to download any files when browsing with Edge and I cannot open PDF files from within Edge either.

Downloading just says xxxx.yyy couldn't be downloaded and nothing will fix it - yet I can download using IE or Chrome to the same downloads directory. Attempts to open pdf files get exactly the same response.

Any suggestions? I really like Edge and it annoys me that I cannot use it anymore.

I received an attached PDF in my 2016 outlook. It has the Edge logo on it and when I open it it appears as an opened link not a stand alone PDF. I have changed my default browser from edge to IE but that does not help.
I cannot export or convert the file to PDF - Edge has no capabilities. Is it possible to receive an adobe file in Edge because I cannot remove this app/program.

OR How can I convert/export an Edge file to PDF?
