I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Had an issue with windows update, got technicians to have a crack at it over remote access and I think it was a case of too many cooks spoil the broth.
So many things done, and now windows update searches forever for updates or until battery runs out on laptop once unplugged from mains.

Any ideas?

Hello, I have a Compaq Presario C500 Laptop with Vista Home edition installed (Intel Celeron M CPU 1.86 GHz/1.50 GB Ram/Vista SP 2.  I've had my Windows update set to automatically download and install any updates.  However I've recently had this error message occur that states "Errors found - Code 80070422.  Windows update encountered an unknown error."  I've tried the "Get Help With This Error" link but it's very confusing.  I've also run my antivirus (microsoft security essentials)/Superantispyware/Malwarebytes to make sure I don't have any virus' and haven't found anything.  Can somebody help me?  Thanks.P.S.  User Mulreay said I should repost in this area.

Hi, hope this link helps. According to Microsoft:QuoteWhile your computer might not be infected with a virus, it is recommended that you follow steps to scan for viruses, and then turn the services on.

I have tried for many months to fix this issue of installing SP1 for Windows 7 64 Bit version and I have continued to have issues. I found this forum and I need help on fixing it.

I get this error:
Window Update failing error code 800736B3

Attaching documents.

Thank you for any help you can provide
Greg

Answer:Windows 7 not updating to SP1 Window Update failing error code 800736B

Hello and welcome Greg now I am assuming you have 7 onboard and have been using it - or is it a new install and you are trying to get SP1 installed?.

If it is the latter then it is easily fixed using this tutorial
Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
If you have data on the install then if it isn't too much just back it up and do the tutorial.

Just one thing make sure you only pick the version you have an activation code for as trying to get a higher version installed will end in grief.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro on my Dell laptop. This laptop has been in storage and hasn't been turned on in a year. Originally, all I wanted to do was use iTunes. The problem:

It made me update it in order to use it, but I got an error.

I un-installed it and tried downloading a fresh copy and I get the following error:
After some Googling, I read that not having the latest Windows .NET framework might be the problem. Sounded reasonable so I fired up Windows Update but that gave me an error and wouldn't start checking for updates.

I managed to get it to check for updates, but now when it starts the process, I get the following:
I Googled the error code "8007007E" and tried a few things to try and fix it.

I downloaded the windowsupdatediagnostic.diagcab, found on Microsoft's site, here:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7
I tried resetting the Windows Update reset tool, using "MicrosoftFixit50202", found here:http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9665683
I download the system readiness tool, found here:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3132
I tried a clean boot.

I tried renaming the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder.

None of this worked.

I ran the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) and the results said I had bad files, but I don't know how to fix them. It generated a CBS log, which is too large for me to post (10MB) , so I've uploaded to dropbox,... Read more

Does anyone know why I'm receiving the following JavaScript Error: message in FX 2.0.0.2: JavaScript Error (inside the Error Console): "window.open is not a function" when I click on any of the video demos inside this page:

http://www.computer-training-softwar...tification.htm

It also doesn't work in IE 6.

I emailed the company and they sent me items to check which I did.

I've updated both QT to the latest 7.1.5 and Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to 1.5.0 Ver 11

I've tried it with the Firewall turned off. I've enabled all Java, JavaScript. ActiveX Controls. I've prevented any pop-up blockers, etc

Here's what the Function Call looks like inside the Source Code of the Script:

popupWin = window.open(file,"vtcplayer","status=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,scrollbars=no,screenX="+wposx+",screenY=0,left="+wposx+",top="+wposy+",width="+winwidth+",height="+winheight);

thanks for your insight, experience and skill.

Help. im trying to reinstall my audio device but it's not working because window updates won't work.
I get something like "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running"
It doesn't update anything anymore & always fail to install a software.

Answer:Window Update Error

Try this first..
Open Windows Update
Click on Change Settings
Select 'Never Update...'
Click OK
exit Windows Update
Now open Windows update again
Click on Change Settings
Select 'Update automatically'
Click OK
exit Windows Update
Open Windows Update, and do a manual Check for Updates.
If you still get the same response, please follow the Windows Update Posting and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Two days ago one desktop computer on my home network failed the Microsoft Update and gave the above error. Today my other desktop and my laptop started showing the same error. I can connect to the internet just fine for browsing and email. I tried disabling the firewall and re-updating on one computer with no luck. My anti-virus is up to date and had run a full scan on at least one computer prior to the error. None of the Microsoft forum information is helping. I am running the MS Malicious Software Removal Tool (for the last hour and a half) have scanned almost 2M files and no infections found yet. Help.

Hi,

I am running regular window updates on window 7 professional SP1, but stuck with error 800B0100. Tried all different tools provided by Microsoft and freeware but none of them fix the problem. it seems some of the files are corrupted from the checksur log.

Attached is the checksur log.

Can anyone help?

This response is in two parts - Most of which you can ignore, since it's merely for my easy reference!

You have some major problems there - but a first look makes it seem as if it's just the one update that's messed up.
I'll post a fix protocol when I can - maybe tonight, or tomorrow, sometime.

Windows updates not working for a while. Initial was 8007370B appearing in the Windows Update window when searching for updates. Found bad memory using Memtest86+ and pulled the stick. Other stick no errors after 8 passes.

Toshiba HDD installed. Ran two different HDD diagnostics test on it and it passed.

No conflicts in device manager.

Now, Windows Update window showing 80070002 error. Based upon instructions, ran System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) but that appears to have not made any resolution. Ran it twice to ensure it ran successfully.

Then, ran the Windows Update Diagnostic.diagcab from go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=231149 and it shows Windows Update error 0x8007370B(2014-09-18-T-06_58_30P) as NOT FIXED. All other items in list shows as FIXED.

SFC /scannow will not run ... displaying the message "windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation". I tried the same in a elevated prompt in normal windows and in safe mode with the same result. No luck running Surface Scan.

Ran chkdsk /r twice also.

Screen captures of both errors and CBS log file attached. Any help is greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I will begin running some antimalware scans just in case.

Thanks for any assistance.

The same requirements for Windows 2000 apply to Windows XP. Your Update Agent is probably outdated:http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...I should also point out that the updated root certificates are also required for Windows Update to run under Windows 2000. Available here: http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/rootsupd_a153023b66d29034420aa227ccc2164cff75229e.exe (also can Google for rootsupd_a153023b66d29034420aa227ccc2164cff75229e.exe if the link ever goes down.)Also update your browser to Internet Explorer 8 for the best results. I would really appreciate any insight as to what you think may be causing the issue, reformatting would really set me back since this computer has some industry specific CAD programs that are a pain to setup.

thanks again,Mark

For some reason I cant post an attachment "attach button doesn't respond, in fact none of them do", I'll add a reply to the thread to see if I can then.

Update: Sorry about the missing attachments, I moved them out of the folder and forgot to attach, there are a couple of older CBS Persist files if you need them.

Hi.
I have a problem with Windows Update. It continues to fail with error code 800736B3. I have tried the update troubleshooter for Windows, I have ran scannow, I also have installed the update readiness tool and hotfix.
Still the updates fail.
I would greatly appreciate any help with this.

Answer:Window Update failing error code 800736B3

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Hi,

for around about one month, I have some problems using the Windows Update. I always get the error massages 800B0100, 80073712 and sometimes one or two more - fortunately (or unfortunately) not this time.

I already did the steps from the windows update posting instruction threat. The SURT I already used before without success, the SFC Scan showed "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations".

I hope I did everything correctly, but I'm not sure about that because my CBS.log is almost 50MB. So I couldn't attach the file but set a dropbox link for it. Hope it's ok:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/2upikylljl83z9o/CBS.zip?dl=0

Thanks a lot for the help.

Hi all, I really appreciate if someone can give me an answer to the following problem: My 1st Gen X1 Carbon had the motherboard and LCD screen replaced under warranty a while back. And after that it seems ok (though I am only using it occasionally). Recently this started happening: every now and then, the whole trackpad, trackpoint and the mouse buttons have absolutely no response, and after a few minutes (and possibly a few small slap on the wrist rest area) it will back ok. If after a while it still not ok I would save my work reboot and it's fine again, for a little while until it stops functioning again, and then after a while it will ok, after a while stop functioning, etc etc.  During the trackpad/trackpoint no response period, if you have a USB mouse plug in, the USB mouse works fine, just the trackpad/trackpoint and its buttons. The next thing which start happening, is the screen seems not updating. What usually happen is when you first start it up, the screen stays in the splash screen, normally it would only take few seconds to go to the next screen, but now occassinally it would stuck there, and I need to lightly slap the right wrist rest area, then you see the "To interrupt bootup press enter" message, then it boots into windows. Once you are in windows, you do your work normally but then once in a while the screen freezes as if the whole computer is hung up like in the old days. Keyboard, USB mouse, trackpad/trackpoint etc,... Read more

Answer:First Gen X1C, sometime lose both trackpad/point & mouse button function, and screen not update

Hi I just bought X1C 2nd Generation.I also have a trouble that mousepad/trackpoint is not responding. After startup, from few minutes to 60 minites , mouse is frozen suddenly.Keyboards are functioning while mouse is not responding. What I can do is rebooting by key oeration. In my case, I uninstall mouse driver and utility, " Sinaptics UltraNav".Now I don't get any 'Freeze'. However, I can't use "Finger Gestures". Lenovo support said it my be a hardware trouble and I need to fix it.For work around, I recomend to uninstall "UltraNav" driver.Unconvenient, but better than freeze. RegardsNao

Hi,
I have been having some recurring problems with the attempts to install some automatic windows updates.

Security Update for Microsoft Office Acess 2007
Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook Junk Email Filter

I am not able to install these updates, maybe any other updates in general. After attempting the install the following install window says, "Windows Update encountered an unknown error." Next to it an error code 80070643. Microsoft provides a solution to the problem, by re-installing Microsoft NET. Framework. They also provide a link to the program NET. Framework cleanup tool that enables you to uninstall NET. Framework, and it's components.

I followed Microsoft's instructions to solve the issue, though I've been put at a standstill. I have used the NET. Framework Cleanup tool to uninstall NET. Framework and it's components (states that it uninstalls all versions, 1.1 SP1 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5.) Then afterwards instructed to reinstall NET. Framework, specifically in an order, 3.5 then, 1.1, then 1.1 SP1. I start with 3.5, then as the installation starts it says that to contiunue installation I must turn off or on windows features in the Control Panel. I do so and turn off all Windows features. Then continue and it again states to turn off features in the Control Panel.

I wasn't able to continue the process, and I am also concerned that this is the same error that made me unable to install Microsoft Security Essentials, (as t... Read more

I have been having problems installing 8 updates since early May 2012. I am getting the error code in the title line.

The updates are:

[LIST][*]Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2596672)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2596792)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2596880)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2597162)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2597969)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB2597161)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office Word 2007 (KB2596917)[*]Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB2687267)

I have run FixIt, but to no avail. I have also turned off services and rebooted and ran Windows Update and still got this error.

Do I need to just skip these updates, or somehow troubleshoot this and fix it. If I need to fix it, I need help.

Regards, and thanks.

Hi All

Some of our client machine(Windows7) is not taking update from WSUS server. When we verified the WindowsUpdate logs, we could see that WU client version is changed to 7.6.7600.256 from 7.5.7601.17514.Our WSUS server is running with version WSUS 3.0 SP1 on windows 2003 server. So we suspect this may be the reason windows 7 machines is getting the error message 'Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x800b0001' when it try to get the update from WSUS server.

So please suggest any steps to change the WU client version on windows 7 back to 7.5.7601.17514

Please find the attached log file.

I haven't been able to do Windows Update in over a year due to error code 80004002. I have tried to re-register the .dll files associated with Windows Update as many sources have suggested to do as a fix... but it hasn't worked for me. I just tried installing SP1 to fix this problem... but I get Internal Error 0x800703F0. One of the suggestions/fixes to this Internal Error is to check Windows Update to see if you are offered SP1 by windows update... but that's the thing... I can't update AT ALL... every time I try to check for updates it gives me error code 80004002. I don't know what to do, this has been driving me absolutely insane ever since this problem showed its ugly face.

If anyone knows how to fix this PLEASE let me know. I will worship whomever can get around this BS. :C

EDIT: Also - I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, and yes it's a legit copy.

Answer:[VISTA] Windows Update error 80004002/SP1 Internal Error 0x800703F0

You install is gone south. You will have to backup and do a fresh install.

Almost all of the suggestions i am seeing say the same thing you said you tried. There is this solution that has about 5 or 6 different .dll's to re-register have you done all of them?

Re: Windows Vista error code 80004002 - TechNet Forums

From a couple of other sites they have returned results of RAM or CPU overheating. So have your run Memtest86 to test your RAM? There is a suggestion to try this app out as well:

Download Dial-a-fix 0.60.0.24 - Dial-a-fix is a collection of known fixes which addresses issues with Windows Update, Microsoft Installer, and more - Softpedia

That might help you. There is also this solution that i have found:

Code:
Go to Start, run, type services.msc <hit enter>
Make sure that COM+ Event System is set to Automatic and is started, and COM+ System Application is set to Manual, and isn't started.
Then - download and install the update from here manually: When you use Automatic Updates to scan for updates or to apply updates to applications that use Windows Installer, you experience issues that involve the Svchost.exe process (WindowsUpdate Agent)
You will probably have to run the above software with the /wuforce switch.
Change to the directory that the update resides in (after you have downloaded it) from a command prompt - and type:
WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce <hit enter>
That might help. That is about all i can find right now. Ho... Read more

I was given an HP Compaq Presario C500 that was headed for the garbage because it would not connect to the internet. After running several scans ESET online scanner came up clean. Installed Microsoft Security Essentials and installed SP1, and can't get it to install SP2. I keep getting error code 80070017 / Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

I would prefer to reformat but Recovery Manager restarts back into Windows and I have no disks.

Can provide a long list of what has been done if needed including WU Modules (Normal Mode) and WU Components fixes. Permissions point in every which way but the correct way!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Free space is presently @ 42.3 GB of 68.9 GB on C: Drive (started out with 7.3 GB's free space! )
and 4.91 GB free of 5.53 GB on Presario_RP (D)

Specs as follows:

Intel (R) Celeron (R) MCPU
[email protected] 1.60GHz 1.60 GHz
512 MB RAM
32-bit OS
Denied access to the CBS folder itself though can access CheckSUR.log which I am including along with sfcdetails.

Hi, about two months ago my computer started doing some weird stuff where multiple programs didn't work.

Some programs, such as notepad, give an error of C:\Windows\systems32\WINSPOOL.DRV is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. I have no idea what is causing this, and found out when looking at its permissions, all were switched to a TrustedInstaller, while I had only read/execute perms.

Also, when I tried to restore my computer to an earlier version, all of my restore points were gone. When I tried to backup my files, an error came up stating, "Server execution failed (0x80080005)".

Lastly, I am unable to set my computer to update windows. When I go to the action center and click Install Updates Automatically, the window closes and nothing changes.

My current OS is Windows 7 (which was upgraded from Windows Vista), and it is an HP laptop. Also, any automatic updates HP software usually installs, doesn't seem to be working.

I have no idea why all of this is happening, and I greatly appreciate any help.

Hiya, this problem started when I encountered "generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close". I figured I could have a virus or something, so I rebooted to run some scans in safe mode. Problem is, when I attempted to go into safe mode, it flashed the blue screen and reset.
Also this happens when I try and disable auto reset on BSOD ( so I just don't change it)
"-System control panel applet- if the page file on volume C: has an initial size of less then 0 megabytes, then the system may not be able to create a debugging information file if a STOP error occurs. Continue anyways?"

After the reset, I was given 2 options I haven't seen before:
"Windows XP professional" -> everything starts normally
and
"Windows (default)" -> gives me a "hal.dll is corrupted" error

I did my scans on normal windows (since safemode is giving me BSOD) and I didn't find any viruses/mal/spyware.
I used these for scanning: Microsoft security essentials, malwarebytes, and spybot.

After some google searches, I tried to update windows via ***www.\/\/indowsupdate.com but recieved an error message like I didn't have the internet. I read somewhere to add it to the "trusted websites" and I did, but didn't change anything.
Also from the searches, I was redirected a few times, so I think I have the google redirect virus.

I have been getting error 0x8007001f whenever I attempted to install the windows 10 anniversary update. I went through most post suggestions for fixing this error. What I found I have not seen posted before.
I have one of those Dells (XPS 8900) similar to Alienware which has the system on a SSD and a second conventional HHD for data.
This configuration, if unchanged, still places user data (such as Documents) on the smaller SSD. In order to have all user data put on the larger HHD I defined a soft symbolic link from the SSD to the HHD for the Users directory. This worked great until my computer attempted to install the anniversary update of windows 10. I kept getting the 0x800701f error no matter what I tried. That is, until I restored the original Users directory on the SSD. After that the update went through just fine.
After the update I relinked the Users directory and everything came up as before but with the windows update installed.
If you have linked the users directory as I did just unlink (see below) and the update should go through.
Notes:
The mklink command is used to define the symbolic link. It should be run from an administrator command prompt.
(mklink /d Users D:\Users)
Rename the original Users directory on C: before defining the link. If you did not then you will have to copy the Users directory from D: to C: after deleting the link, then delete and relink after the windows update.
To delete the link just do an "rmdir Users" from administrat... Read more

I have a Sitefinity 7.0 project I am developing that has been working fine until a few weeks ago. After a round of Windows updates I would get a 500 error everytime I tried to access the Dashboard or any other backend page. The login worked, but the desired
page always failed, whether running in VS2013 or published and run from IIS 7. The production site hosted on WS2008R2 remained trouble free, but the issues affects development on my Windows 8.1 box.

I confirmed the error was caused by Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 x64-based Systems (KB3098779). Removing the update resolved the issue. Once a week, every week since, the update is
reinstalled automatically without me being able to stop it. The error reappears every time this update is automatically reinstalled.

Hello guys,
I have tried everything I found online and failed. I don't wanna do a clean install. I have attached the CheckSur.log. Please help.

Answer:Windows update error 80070002 and System restore error (Both)

I was getting that same error - and saying "cannot search for updates".

I tried the Fixit tool and command prompts - suggested by Microsoft - nothing worked.

I finally called Microsoft - 1 - 800 - Microsoft and they did a remote on my comp and the problem is solved, at least for now.

There is no charge for this service.

As for System Restore, make sure you have set a Restore Point.
Go to Start and type system restore.
Go to " Create a restore point".

See if your C drive says "on" and if not click Configure.

Hello!  I haven't used my desktop in forever (about 4yrs) and finally decided to hook it up to my tv.  After a little bit of funds and assistance, I finally got it working.

Anyhoo...at one time I had itunes downloaded.  Now I can't find it in Programs.  I can find a couple of files titled "itunes music" and  "itunes music library" in one of the users on this comp but when trying to open these files I receive these errors:
"itunes music" - "Application has failed to start because it's side by side configuration is incorrect.  Please see the application event log for more detail"
"itunes music library - Opens up in a new window of html log.

I researched and found to uninstall and then reinstall itunes and Quicktime.  I can't find itunes in Programs.  I tried to download itunes and receive this error "Could not access network location %APPDATA%."  I researched this error and found to download update to Windows Vista then download itunes and Quicktime afterwards.  I tried to download and received this error "Installer encountered and error 0x80070424 The specified service does not exist as an installed device."

Can I find these drivers somewhere or what should my next steps be?

fyi-I don't have the cds that came with computer but I might be able to borrow one if needed.

Hello,
new to this forum, my apologies if I've missed any of the conventions for posting. I have been dealing with a persistent error 800b0100 error when trying to update to service pack 1 for Windows 7 Professional. I've tried running Mircosoft FixIt in aggressive mode and have ran the SUR tool numerous times with no success. Attached is the CBS folder, there were 8 0x800F0900 errors as well as 8 0x00000000 errors in the system update readiness log. I'm very stuck as to what to do next, any help greatly appreciated!

Hi to BleepingComputer,

Let's see what we can find...

  Check Windows System files integrity
open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
type the following command and press Enter:
sfc /scannow
Note: This may take some time to finish.if it doesn't say "No integrity violations found" them do this:
In the command prompt window, type or Copy & Paste the following:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

Close the command prompt.
Attach to your post the sfcdetails.txt file that was just placed on your Desktop
You can safely delete the sfcdetails.txt file afterwards if you like

Check some windows critical services...
Farbar Service Scanner (FSS)
Download Farbar Service Scanner and save the file to the Desktop.
Run FSS
Check all the options

Hello, I am attempting to install a Windows Update for Service Pack 1, and cannot do so. I'm running Windows Ultimate x64 bit, and need the Service Pack to run a couple programs I cannot run without it - namely Dolphinx64 netplay.

That being beside the point, I have attempted to run the ISO file downloaded from the Microsoft website and have attempted using the online Windows Update in my system. I also tried manually upgrading my Windows 7 using a x64 Windows 7 ISO install file and selecting "upgrade", but it didn't let me because I "can't upgrade a 64-bit system to a 32-bit system" and "can't upgrade a 32-bit system to a 64-bit system". I got both of these errors at the same time - so that's a dunce.

I also used the System Update Readiness Tool found at :

Fix Windows corruption errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool

and it didn't work either.

As stated in the title, the error code is 80070490. Attached is the CBS zip file asked for in the instructions for posting. I couldn't copy the CBS.log file -- and all the times I attempted to take ownership didn't work. If required, I will try again to get it. For the time being, I used an elevated command prompt to open the CBS log via notepad with a notepad command, and copied all contents into a notepad and included that with my .rar.

I also ran sfc /scannow before uploading this all, so that has been done as well.

Any help is much appreciated, and thank you in advance!

Hi -
I'm not getting Windows Update to run. HP p6240f, Windows 7, 64-bit OS
When I go to shutdown, the shutdown button has an orange shield that indicates it wants to update.
If I go to Windows Update and and say "Check for Updates", it tells me to Install new Windows Update software. I press Install Now and get "windows could not search for new updates. Error found Code 8024DFFE Windows Update encountered an unknown error". When I press "Get Help with this error", I select Windows Update Troubleshooter, which opens a Diagnostics Troubleshooting Wizard, which opens "Window Update, find and fix problems with Windows Update", which runs a repeating cycle of Detecting problems, collecting files, checking registry, Resolving problems .... over and over until it finishes eventually saying that it was not able to fix all the problems. In particular is a new "Windows Update error 0x80070490(2014-08-29-T-09_02_42P)". I attach the picture. I've done this a bunch of times, including rebooting to see if that matters.

This happened a week ago and the same thing happened as in the preceding paragraph, except that afterward - even though it gave all the same error codes - the Windows Update successfully ran.

I found a suggestion on a MS Windows site to run (in an administrator's Dos window) sfc /SCANNOW, which takes a long time to run and I did so and it found nothing and still the problem exists.

Hi. Firstly, thanks for the info. I had encountered the same problem with windows update error 8024DFFE on my Acer 4830, Win7 64bit 2 days ago and was trying to find a solution online without any success. But then I came across ur post and realized that I have a similar configuration as you. I also uses comodo firewall and avast antivirus. This led me to think that either one of them is the problem. I disable the firewall and can now check for updates. How that helps.

Hi there guys!

I've noticed you have helped people before having the same issue I am. When trying to running windows updates (service pack 1) I am getting the 800B0100 error. I have tried all the "Microsoft" fixes (FixIt, SUR tool etc), but no luck. I have run the sfc /scannow and have the CBS log (although I have no idea what it all means). Can anyone help me find a fix please????

Many Thanks,

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Hey, everyone.
Hopefully, I'm posting this in the right spot. I'm new to this forum.
Actually, I'm new to asking for tech advice on any forum.
Normally I scour the internet for any problem I'm having, I find someone else who had it, and follow the steps to fix it. Unfortunately, this time, I haven't been able to find a solution.

Fair warning: My description of the problem may go all over the map.

Here is my Operating System information as reported by Iobit System Information:

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Home
OS Version: 10.0.10586
Product ID: 00326-10000-00000-AA792
System Up Time: 8/2/2016 9:06:23 AM
Internet Explorer Version: 11.306.10586.0
Microsoft DirectX Version: Direct X 11
OpenGL Version: 10.0.10586.0 _th2_release.151029-1700)

The initial problem I want to bring up is that when my computer restarts to apply the Windows update it tells me that it failed and reverts back. It does this every time.

And when I try to install the new update from Windows Update I get this message:
There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:

Hi all! I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place, but I've been stuck with this issue for a while now. Last July, I came here and got help to remove a rootkit off of my computer (Great help, by the way!), but seeing as it had infected my services.exe, part of the fix was to get a new copy of it, or something around those lines; this will come in to play later, I think. Anyway, its been a LONG time, my last update whenever I try running windows update, it runs for a bit and tries to receive the updates, but then stops and displays a message saying it failed to update, and gives me the error code of 80246008. I've looked this up, and I see that it possibly has something to do with the background intelligent transfer service. The thing is, I would just like some help here on what I should do. Could someone maybe help me out with what's going wrong with the updates? Any help is greatly appreciated. (Also sorry for the wall of text).

Hey guys after successfully removing viruses from a Vista, I went to windows update, and installed VISTA SP2 but when i go back to check for more updates, it gives me "Update Error: 800E2E" I then scanned again with the latest of MalwareBytes, and Norton 360 and i also reset all IE8 settings, disabled firewalls still no luck. I also still get what i Believe is remnants of a virus which is a pop up screen when i try and browse to a new site, it says: "You have been prohibited from this site due to virus or other malware Options: Retry, or fix. When i press retry multiple times it will finally let me to the desired site. This does this to every new tab or page I attempt to open. its more of a nuisance than anything but, I am concerned. And I need to keep this updated with Windows, Any Suggestions? Thanks in advance..

Hello.

So I've just finished updating my Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, the installation went smoothly but now there is a problem - which is the Skydrive folder (that is located in in my users folder) won't synchronize with the following error "Error: We can't connect to your SkyDrive because the path of a file or folder is too long" ... I only have access to the files that were already in there before the update, but it won't synchronize with new ones.
Before the update everything was working fine and synchronizing fine, there was absolutely no problem with long folder or file's path, now after the upgrade there is suddenly a problem?
I can't change the folder structure now, it's too late as I've several machines (Windows 7) with the same structure and it would be a mess If I changed it.
How can I correct this issue? Does anyone have any ideas?
Regards.

Truly did not know which forum to post this in and after having done several searches hoped this might be the spot. Please note logon title.

Am running ME and generally things are relatively ok. Have one error/problem with the scheduled tasks which I cannot get rid of but have worked around it so it is not a major issue. Currently of most concern is the R 6025 error that I receive when trying to play songs downloaded to the computer or creating a disc. I can play the radio stations etc. Have used trial version of RegCleaner and hoped that would perhaps solve the prob but no. Have followed some other advice from this forum or others about renaming wmp files and then downloading new version but no. Run Spybot and PCillin. Again other than the two probs with the R6025 being the most critical other aspects of the PC seems to work fine. Appreciate any input or redirection to a search file that I may have missed. Has anyone had success with any other registry cleaner program fixing these types of errors in ME? Thanks.

Greetings!
I have an Optiplex 9010 AIO. This morning I was trying to update the BIOS of my system, from A10 to A13. During the update process it showed an error: "ME FW Update Failed: Internal error: FWU_Buffer " - please see the photo below. Although the update failed on the Management Engine part, it still boots up and running OK. I tried couple of times to update the BIOS, and each time I got the same error. I tried to flash the A12 and A11 BIOS as well, A12 gives same error, and A11 has the same Management Engine version hence no use.
Any help on this is very much appreciated!

I have restarted and tried several times to no avail.

Answer:Settings window closes after I click on the Update & Security button ?

Troubleshooting suggestion :

Right click at Start button > click Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this.......
sfc /scannow

> press Enter.
It will take quite sometime.
When finished, it will give you one of the 3 reports...............(paraphrasing)
1. No integrity violation.
2. Found corrupt files and repair successful.
3. Found corrupt files but unable to repair.

If the report is #1, your solution lies elsewhere.
If the report is #2, check if your problems have been resolved.

The title says it all ! I am running a fully updated Windows 10 Pro Eng. Build 10586.
I go to the start menu, click on settings and when I click on the Update & Security button the window just vanishes !
I have restarted and tried several times to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You.

If the report is #3, use this method................
In the same Command Prompt (Admin) windows, copy and paste this command...........

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

> press Enter.
Again it will take some time.
When finished, it will give you a report.

hey. after i press my reset button in windows and windows starts to load, the computer will reset and then it takes like 3 reboots for windows to get back and running properly again. only happens after I reset it via the button. i just built this comp so could the connections be wrong? what's the go?

Answer:Pressing reset button causes windows serious error

How long have you had the problem? If it is only a recent problem, try doing a system restore. System restore allows you to return to a previous state of time, to usually when your computer was in a better state of working order. It may or may not correct your problem, however. Try this option under safe mode.[Click the start menu/tray > then to programs > accessories > system tools > system restore. (If your system restore settings are disabled then disregard the suggestion)

I get the error message which says "Critical error- Your start menu isn't working. We'll try to fix it next time you sign in. <Sign out now>"
It came, went and now its broken again.

Answer:Windows 10 start button critical error

Suggestions :
Assuming RIGHT click at the Start button still works.......
1.Right click at Start button > click Command Prompt (Admin) > type powershell > press Enter key.
At the flashing prompt, copy and paste this command line ( to avoid typo it's best to apply Copy/paste method)......

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

> press Enter.
When it is done, check if you can open Start Menu.

2. Create another user account with exactly the same privileges as the one you are using now > logon to it and see if you have the same problem.

I've been having this problem recently, My Start menu on Windows 10 regardless if I use Windows Key or clicking the Start button. won't appear, I tired everything from PowerShell, CMD, and even Reset your PC yet none of them worked, Anyone have A fix? This IS coming from A legit copy of Windows 10.

Answer:HELP!! Windows 10 Start Button Not Working and No error either!!

Is this a clean install of Windows 10? More than likely a corrupt installation

Hello, ,,,,,

There are two computers in this room and both have W98SE and IE6.

When there is a Javascript error, one produces the error icon in the lower left of the IE6 Window while the other does not.

Even when the TOOLS / INTERNET OPTIONS / ADVANCED ----"Display a notification about every script error" is set there is no display of the error icon or an error window.

However, when the Microsoft JAVASCRIPT Debugger was loaded and activated on that computer the Javascript Debugger did detect the error and display a mesasge.

Also, both computers have the same settings in TOOLS / INTERNET OPTIONS / ADVANCED for all areas.

That IE6 is now being looked at to see if a reason can be found that it does not produce the error icon or a error display window when TOOLS / INTERNET OPTIONS / ADVANCED ----"Display a notification about every script error" is set.

Any advise would be great,,,,,,

THANKS for your time, and help!!!!
Jerry

Answer:Solved: W98SE & IE6: No Error ICON or Error Window Display.

Hello,,,,
And,,,,Sorry,,,,,

The IE 6 HELP/ABOUT INTERNET EXPLORER shows the following:

The IE6 on the W98SE machine that produces the error is using Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106 with SP1; Q918439; Q916281; Q837009; and q313829 installed.

While the W98SE machine that does not produce the error is using a Customized Version of Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106CO with SP1; Q837009; and q313829 installed.

Would like to find a reason/solution. But, IE6 will be removed and version 6.0.2800.1106 (not the Customize Version,,,,,,,---CO) will be reloaded if the reason cannot be found in a reasonable amount of time.

So far, not having any luck googling.
THANKS for your advice, time, and help!!!!

Jerry

Answer:T60 Windows 7 mute button without function

Does the OSD appear after pressing Fn-F5, Fn-Home and Fn-End?
If not, the hotkey driver is missing: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-74261

After upgrading to Windows 10,  the button used to display the HDMI in no longer functions on my HP Envy 23

Solved!

Answer:HDMI in button does not function in Windows 10

I had this same exact problem, except on the 27xt, which is the 27" version of the HP Envy TouchSmart. It's identical to the 23" only bigger. I called HP who told me to call Microsoft, who after an hour of Remote Desktop installing new graphics drivers and that not working told me to call HP.So, I googled the problem and found this thread, on this forum and I'm soooooo glad I did. Hpuser30 is absolutely right, except I found an even easier method for fixing it.I went to my local BestBuy store, which sells the 23" version and I plugged a flash drive, I brought from home, into the USB 3.0 port on the side of the display. Then I went to the c:\ drive and found their SWSETUP folder and I "copied" the entire folder to my flash drive. Their machine works perfectly, in Windows 10, so I felt confident this could work. I went home and opened the SWSETUP folder on my computer and I searched for MyHPDisplayOSD and I found the folder named the same thing. Inside that folder was a file called HP_My_Display_2.08.020_Setup.exe.I tried running the file but it said I couldn't, because I already had a newer version. Which was the problem in the first place. Either Microsoft or HP had updated the driver to one that no longer recognize that HDMI port nor button. So I went to control panel and then programs and I uninstalled HP My Device, which required a reboot. Then, I installed the setup file on the Flash drive, that I got from the computer at BeatBuy. I didn't even have to reboot. I just press... Read more

I purchased a new notebook with Windows 7 in October. During the first weeks I uninstalled McAfee and replaced the harddrive. Since November Windows Update fails with error messages and defender does not start anymore. I made several virus scans (complete) with multiple antivirus programs but nothing showed up.Since it took my days to install various software, I do not want to re-install W7. I also have no good backup that I could restore. I am really surprised that there is not even a single entry regarding the error code in the Microsoft Knowledge base or elsewhere.I really would appreciate help.

Answer:Windows Update does not work, Windows Standalone Update Installer stops with error 0xc8000247 (Windows 7 Home Premium on Acer Aspire 1810TZ notebook)

Got it !!!!
If You are using notebooks with with hard drive larger than 700 GB you probably should update Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver.
Here is solution :

While updating HP Active Support Library in windows vista home premium it downloads and checks for space allocation and then gives me Error 1316.A network error while attempting to read from file c:\windows\installer\HP active support library.msi Then after the rolling back action I receive Error-1603-Fatal-error during installation consult windows installer help (msi.chm) or msdn for more information. I have tried to go to the latter but have been unsuccessful in eliminating this problem. Is there anything that can be done short of restoring my laptop back to its original out of the box settings?

I have a command button on an access 2010 switchboard in a program I made that is supposed to launch an excel program I made. Most everything was created in Access 2002 and excel 2002 though some features were added in Office 2010. This command button and others which launch other reports and forms in access all were working well. I use all of this in compatibility mode.

Now I have updated to a new computer with Windows 7. Everything else seems fine. However, the command button to launch the excel program gives me a message: "There was an error executing the command." It opens the program anyway though keeping the access switchboard and the error message in the foreground.

Additionally, and this may be unrelated, if I close the excel program and then attempt to reopen it with the command button, I get the same error message but excel does not open at all. If I close down everything and open the access program again it is the same cycle.

Answer:Windows 10 screen flicker error as soon as i push the power button

I found the scource of the problem, it is when i press f2 and f8 till a sceen pops up and says Dell inc. dell optiex 780 along the top blue bar, i go to virtualizon suppot and down a list of three options, i select trusted execution check the "enable Intel Trusted Execution Technology. This fixes the error and the screen stops flashing and works like a normal monitior would. sometimes it keeps flashing, sometimes it works almost instantly. But it fixes it a couple minutes after logging in. Anyone know how i can keep that checkbox i mentioned quotes checked permantly? Anything helps guys, thank you for your time.
