Creating a Taskbar Toolbar then coping to all win 7 users

Question: Creating a Taskbar Toolbar then coping to all win 7 users

Guys how best to copy a taskbar toolbar that I created (user=win 7 admin) to all win 7 users on the machine.

We want all current profiles on a machine to have the same toolbar (toolbar points to a company folder) and need to create a batch file to implement across all user profiles. I see a thread on how to back it up but restoring it into other profile does not work.. Any suggestions is much appreciated

Preferred Solution: Creating a Taskbar Toolbar then coping to all win 7 users

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Steve, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you mean the tutorial below, then restoring would only work if the users have the target path of the toolbar at the same location.

What is it doing when you try?

Hi all,

I live in a student house with 7 other people currently, and we're having problems with the internet. Our ISP is Virgin Media and we use their Superhub as our router - but with so many people online it is experiencing a lot of throttling and the internet is constantly running at a snail's pace (NB: speed in our area is 25 Mbps). We also have problems with range - those on the top floors get very poor signal.

In light of this, I was wondering if anyone can recommend a new router that can remedy these problems. I understand that dual band routers are meant to help with providing more bandwidth, but beyond that I'm fairly clueless. I imagine a good router should also have a larger range too?

This references: Quick Launch Bar: icons don't wrap even though there is room - a post by chillz which discovers a "bug" with the taskbar not resetting the row-sizing for toolbars when dragging the taskbar to the left then back to the bottom.

I, for a while now, have been using a custom quick-launch toolbar on my taskbar with the taskbar being 2 unit-lines in height and having the taskbar on my secondary ( left ) monitor. When I first set this up it showed 3 lines of small icons in the toolbar and up to 2 lines on the standard taskbar. This was perfect because the toolbar didn't reset the order every time I launched an application contrary to how the pinned application system works. With pinned applications, no matter what position I drop the icon, the order always resets and floats from place to place so that system of organizing icons is disgusting because you have apps between icons of apps that aren't running some times and other times the running applications are above and below with or without grouping enabled.

The vertical display would be the ideal way for me to view unlaunched applications ( see aforementioned topic ) because they group together and launched apps come after; in horizontal mode the taskbar is chaotic without a toolbar organizing the apps to one side but then you lose the functionality of the pinned-application system ( if you forfeit usage of that chaotic horizontal system in favor of how the vertical system works but in horizontal mod... Hi
I'm writing an IE plugin which will attach to the IE standard toolbar (containing Home, print, Tools buttons) as a Drop-Down Toolbar button and will open an menu upon user click. Which is very similar to "Home", "print" "Tool" dropdown button.
My code was working perfectly fine with IE6 and IE7. But as Microsoft has drastically changed the internals of IE8 with separate processes and introducing other classes for the toolbar, my plugin is not working.
So, Can anybody knows ... How to develop an drop-down toolbar button for IE8 ?
Thank you.

Hi there.

Although I don't really miss the Classical start Menu any more It's quite useful to have a quick popup of some programs you use from time to time that don't always warrant being either pinned to the desktop or the taskbar also with SUB MENUS where appropriate -- All the tools like WIN-X editor that I've seen don't allow sub menuing or need fixed location toolbars or folders so here's an EASY way to do it - although it's manual so perhaps knowlegable people with some programming skills who know some scripting could easily automate the process.

An Easy way to do this actually exists in WINDOWS itself by the use of a bit of trickery and Custom toolbars -- you don't NEED any Registry hacks etc. Also you can save your created toolbar so you don't need to re-create it or go through the whole process again if you re-install Windows again either.

Excellent Jimbo- THANX

What I did, was I opened "Programs" in Start8 and located my default Start Menu Folder. Then I made a Toolbar for it like so:

It acts pretty much like the Old Start Menu, as long as you use the double-arrow to the right.

The only thing I would like to do is move it to where the old Program Menu used to be, any way to do that?

I have a client who is Windows Vista with all the Windows Updates installed. He was using IE9 and kept getting lots of script errors even though debugging and notifications were turned off. I noticed the Elf Toolbar and disabled it and then used the Windows uninstaller to uninstall two versions of it - 1.13 and 1.15 I think. Then it occurred to me to use Revo to uninstall Conduit Engine which I guess has something to do with Elf. The problem with IE9 seemed to be fixed for a day and then it returned. A couple more notes... the Google toolbar that was also installed was enabled, but nothing at all showed on that toolbar. When I disabled it, a gray space disappeared where presumably, the Google Toolbar was sitting. After all the uninstalls, the Google toolbar appeared as it normally would. Now that the problem has resurrected itself, the Google toobar is again empty of icons. We uninstalled IE9 and the same problem exists in IE 8. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi all -

I want to set up my computer so that my administrative User account is stored locally, but all subsequent user accounts created are created on an external HD.

Many of the guides and tutorials which show how to do this involve changing the registry, which I believe will not allow me to diferentiate between my current admin account and all subsequently created user accounts. I think this will mess with my locally stored user account. I do NOT want my computer to go looking for my administartive account on my external drive.

I was following this guide:
User Profiles - Relocate to another Partition or Disk

Until it got to the part where you needed your USB/DVD with your Win8 installation media, which I do not have.
Other guides on how to change the user location (I think) will permanently change the location of ALL user files, including the Administrator's which I want to keep locally on my machine.
Examples -
How to Change User Profile Default Location in Windows 7 | Next of Windows
How To Change User Profile Location in Windows 8 without Registry Hack | Next of Windows

Finally - I want to be able to create the user accounts on the external drive directly, and I do not want to create them locally and port them over as some other guides have shown. I will be doing this process for dozens, maybe 100's of accounts over time and I do not want to go through the hassle of porting over every account I make.
If this is possible, please let me know how to do it.... Read more

Answer:Creating all Subsequent Users on External HD

Run regedit as an administrator
Find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Modify ProfilesDirectory to whatever your external Drive is.

It works even on 8.1, and all your next user profiles will be directed there. Keep in mind that unlike under unix moving whole user profiles locations while possible, isn't recommended by microsoft and can break some updates. The recommended microsoft way is to only move the subfolders of user profiles (my documents, my images, my videos, etc...), but this involves doing what you don't want (create locally then move them).

Hi all
I am wondering if it is possible to prevent users from creating shortcuts. We have users locked down were they cannot get to the local C: Drive to prevent the machine from getting messed up. But they are creating shortcuts that allow them to browse Active
Directory. "C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe dsquery.dll,OpenQueryWindow" And while I cannot prevent them from reading AD, I want to prevent them from getting to the rundll32.exe file. At this point, they are creating shortcuts to get there. These
users cannot change anything in AD, I am just trying to prevent them from browsing it.
I would block the rundll32.exe file from being executed but with all the software we have, I am not sure what all it would break. Is it possible to prevent running specific rundll32 dll files?
Any advice in this matter would be great.

Long file paths cause real problems when need to move/copy or delete large amount of data that the path is 350 character long (max character allowed by Windows is 256)

I was wondering if anyone knows of any third party app. that can help with this. Something that will prevent users from naming files/folders on the network and display a message to them.

Renaming files/folders is not what I'm looking for. The problem currently is resolved, I'm trying to avoid this from happening in the future.
Thank you

Answer:Prevent users from creating long paths

I think the real problem here is that the users don't always see the full path.
If you as an administrator map a network drive to a path, the user will be blissfully aware of the true full path.
I'm pretty sure that no human is going to use a path that length deliberately.

hey guys, its been a while..

Just need a bit of help in a few things setting up my new box for a dedicated sftp/web server. I've already installed apache2 and got that running, and also installed openssh on a ubuntu 9.04 system. Now, a few questions if anyone can help..

1) how do I create virtual users on an ubuntu system and integrate them to log into sftp?
2) how do I change the default path after those users have logged in to a particular path, say instead of "/home/$user" to "/var/www/" instead

I want to have a few users (or group if possible) to be able to access the var/www/ folder only since all they will be doing is just uploading/modifying/downloading files in that directory. The server will be mainly hosting files for download (with anonymous access given to download via a html link) and the uploading/etc to be done over sftp since its more secure than regular ftp connections.

I have looked around the net for a while now, and they don't give me a clear answer to this (probably since this is my first time setting up openssh, and i've only started to work in ubuntu regularly only quite recently) and other sites telling me to install vsftpd, proftpd etc.. which I prefer not to.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I'm looking at two options - LDAP and PAM for the users.. any suggestions?

Edit2: Never mind, got a friend to show me how to do this on the *nix.

Hello,

I would like to be able to do this without windows 7 creating a long list of local users that it asks me to choose from when I boot my computer. Am I wrong for thinking that it should be able to list and assign permissions for network users sepereate from actual users of this computer?

I have installed several toolbar programs for Internet Explorer (google, yahoo, aol, etc.) on a Windows XP machine for troubleshooting purposes. This is an unused machine that multiple users have access to via Remote Desktop. The problem is that when each user logs into the machine via Remote Desktop the toolbars program do not show up and each user must install under their own profile. The programs only show up when logged in with the Network ID that installed the application. Is there any way to make these programs available for all users that log in remotely other than installing an Enterprise edition of the software???

Hello,
I am looking for help on the following. I'm trying to create a custom browser toolbar button that will do a few things. One that I'm trying to do at the moment is just simply return the URL of whatever page the user is visiting.

I wanted to create a Win32 application using VB.NET. If there is a better way of doing this please let me know. I assume there needs to be some sort of client side code. I was originally leaning towards using "Request.Path.ToString" or "Request.ApplicationPath.ToString" but these require server based execution.

For the time being, I'm creating a simple VB.NET Win32 application with 1 button. The onclick of which should be able to access the URL of the existing page. However, since the application isn't part of any browser yet, I'm unsure of how to access information about the page.

Any ideas on the code to use and how to implement this? I'm looking for some code examples and direction on how to go about this (ie. create an executable from the win32 application, etc). Maybe there is some javaScript that can be used. I will eventually be creating a toolbar similar to that explained in the following link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/browser/ext/tutorials/button.asp.

Question: toolbar/taskbar

Hi new to this page and hoping for some desperately needed help!!!!!
I have windows 10 now ( i think a mistake and can't go back) but my tool/task bar won't auto hide. Somedays it will for a moment or opening new tabs, then it jusy stays put and won't go away.....
Any ideas , suggestions would be wonderful

Answer:toolbar/taskbar

Hello nessa Welcome to the Ten Forums!

I have to assume you saw 10 go on as an upgrade from the previous version correct? Often an upgrade install to a newer version of Windows will simply come out "Buggy" with either some immediate headaches or minor issues that slowly appear after 10 has been on for a period of time.

IF immediately found to be a headache the Clean Install option is then the best possible move. But you would also need to Download Windows 10 either for the immediate upgrade option to repair, see the 10 media created using a 8gb size flash drive at this time, or simply save the "Windows.iso" file to a folder on the drive. You can later mount the ISO image on a virtual cd rom drive to see an Upgrade to Repair type install.

For some minor issues however like a glitch you can first try a run of the System File Checker tool opening a command prompt and typing the "sfc /scannow" command. The system tool will look around for any important files that didn't go on good or never found their way onto the drive to begin with. If you should see the message that some files were not able to be fixed the problem would be a little more involved.

Question: Taskbar Toolbar

If my lingo is right, this question concerns the toolbar on the Taskbar. Right-click on the Taskbar, Toolbars, New
Toolbar. At that point, I get
"C:\Users\Barak\Documents\Programs\Programs refers to a location that is unavailable . . . "
Explorer also opens to Libraries>Documents>Programs>Programs which notes "This folder is unavailable."
How do I create a new toolbar?

And a bonus - too petty for its own post . . .
In all previous versions of Windows the Close\Restore\Minimize buttons (top right) were in identical positions. I could leave my mouse in one position, click ten times, and minimize ten apps. Not in W8. Those icons? are different sizes so some clicks minimize, some restore, and some are to the left of Minimize. Any way to get them all the same size?

In this window, navigate to the folder from which you want to create the toolbar and click Select folder in the dialog. If something prevents you from doing this, provide a screenshot or record your actions with psr (type on the start screen).
As for the second questions, it's a good idea to start a separate thread and provide visuals to support the text description, as it's not completely clear what's going on.

I am looking to put a toolbar on my Taskbar that allows me to run my video games from it thus eliminating desktop shortcuts.

I have created a Toolbar on my taskbar using the Microsoft Start menu Games directory. It looks like such. Nice little icon for the games and when I click on the Expanding arrow it opens up a list.

If I wanted an Icon to show instead of the word "Games", it just used the icon for the first game on the list. So I put a shortcut to the games menu IN the games directory. That way if I click on the icon itself, it opens up the games directory which is just Windows Explorer folder with all the shortcuts in it instead of running first of the 20 games on the list.

Now my question to you is this. I want to find a way to move the jumplist of the games shown to open when I click on the Games Icon itself, not the tiny arrows. In fact I'd like to get rid of those arrows altogether. Which also means that I DON'T want the shortcut's directory to open when I click on the icon.
Currently : If I click the arrow, the list appears. If I click the icon, the directory in windows explorer opens.

Desired : Remove the arrows altogether. When I click on the icon, the directory does NOT open, and instead the nice little jumplist opens and I pick a game.
Instead of the games list opening when I click the arrow here -

I want it to open when I click the Icon here -

So I want my Taskbar to look like this (picture photoshopped)-

Here is what I would like to do. Just as a local printer is automatically mapped for all users who logon once it has been installed, I would like to map a network printer for all users.

Can I do this in a simple manner? Simple being defined as without the use of registry editing or scripts that have to installed on the domain server.

I would be willing to add a script to the local computer or do registry hacking if it comes down to it. I don't want to add a script to their batch file that is run when they logon since they logon to multiple computers and I only want this one computer to be mapped to the network drive.

Thank you for your time and any help that you can provide me.

Hello!

I've got a problem. I've been tasked with creating a lightweight build of Windows 10 to run in kiosk mode here at work. I've got kiosk mode running well, where the only app the user has access to is Internet Explorer (using a custom shell). However now I'm going through and trying to lock everything down to prevent the user from downloading and installing stuff, accessing C:\, etc.

I've enabled applocker and auto-generated all the rules. I did this for Executables, Windows Installer Files as well as Pre-Packaged Apps however I'm running into a problem.

Even though I have all the rules for the pre-packaged apps set to "allow" for the administrators group, it still won't allow me to create new users (any more) when using the built-in Administrator account. Answer:AppLocker Preventing Admin Account From Creating New Users

mitchewr-

I ran across a similar issue with OS 10 version 1607, we tried this a test user account and we blocked the apps we wanted to but once we tried to log back into the device with our Admin account not only was the app blocked but so was the Start menu for the Admin account who should still have access to it.

We took away the rule that we created and the issue still persisted so I had to reimage the device and did the steps need on a test machine to run things through Group Policy and everything was going great on the test machine but it was on version 1511. So importing the .xml to the test machine with 1607 did not work. So basically we found out you can't apply Group Policies setup on a 1511 machine and import them to a 1607 machine.

We know the Kiosk mode won't work for us because need more than one app on the device and need to broadcast it to a second monitor which you cannot do in Kiosk mode. I was just curious if you have had any luck with AppLocker since your post? Sorry I am not providing a solution to your post just wanted to converse since we are in very similar boats.

Thanks.

So far i find it impossible to do.

One taskbar at the bottom, oh you can add things to it but not a 2nd taskbar.

Any experienced Win 7 users out there know a way?

Answer:Win 7, creating an additional taskbar at the top of your screen?

I was also looking for that option too cause in Vista you could just drag a folder to the top and it would create a bar. But it don't seem to be the case with Windows7.

So yea i too would like to know .

Hi all,
Just migrated from XP to 7 and one thing I'd like to do is set up my desktop the way it was in XP. I've done just about all the tweaks to accomplish that, but 7 won't let me add a toolbar to the top of the screen as I could in XP. I don't like the dock that came with this computer and I'd rather make my own toolbar. Any way to achieve this? Thanks.

PS. I'm not talking about moving the taskbar or quickbar to the top of the screen. This would be a separate toolbar with a folder as it's contents.

I've had Windows 7 for about 10 Days. One of the first things I did was create a quick launch section on the task bar. Had about 8 icons in this quick launch and everything worked fine for about 5 days. Then the quick launch area on the tool bar just vanished. The rest of the tool bar is still there and works just fine.I thought I would just create a new toolbar and start over, however when I click on the "tooolbars>new toolbar" up pops the Explorer " libraries>documents" page. This page also pops up if I try to pin anything to the task bar.EG I click and drag an icon to the task bar, click "pin to taskbar" and instead of the icon showing up a copy of "libraries" folder appears instead.
Would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks hope someone can help

Answer:Cannot create new taskbar toolbar

When Windows Explorer pops up, it expects you do choose a folder to use for the new toolbar. I created a folder called "Shortcuts" in my User folder and added that as my new toolbar - then I just drop shortcuts into the Shortcuts folder and they show up at the toolbar.

i right click the taskbar and click the language bar off, but every time i restart, it's there again

anybody know how to make it so that it won't show up when i restart?

Answer:Language toolbar on taskbar

The Language Bar is a part of windows Office. To remove it you have to go into add/remove programs and do a "change" then add/remove features. Under Office Tools make sure to uncheck the Language Settings Tool (also go through all of the other stuff that is installing and make sure that "Spanish" and "French" are unchecked. I think it auto installs the language bar if you install any additional languages.

I've looked around - just a little on Google -and didn't see this trick/tip, it makes sizing the toolbars (quicklaunch, links, desktop, etc.) in the taskbar real easy to adjust. It also works in the IE, and explorer toolbars as well - just make sure toolbars are unlocked - may work in other browsers - don't know. Should work with Win9x and above with IE 4.0 (with active desktop/shell enhance features) and above.

If you double-click the sizing handle (the vertical bar at the left side of the toolbar), the toolbar will adjust itself to the far left; double-click it again will adjust to the far right; double-click again and the toolbar will be fully expanded from the right. This is in a circular pattern, so if it doesn't go far left the first time, it will do one of the other actions.

This is a lot easier than than click and dragging the size handle - unless you need to do it this way.

I've recently discovered this when I "accidently" clicked my mouse wheel (set up for double-clicking) on the size handle one time. Before I found this, I was manually resizing to get things right. Now it's a snap

I have installed and used Go MP3 for quite some time and have been happy with its performance. Unfortunately, though, when I installed this software I also chose and option which added a program named "estartlinkrotater" which has since become my bane. Each time I reboot I have to reconfigure my taskbar to my previous settings (with quick launch) as when I reboot my Taskbar is running this link rotater program & Address. When I right click on the taskbar and look under Toolbars submenu 'links' is listed twice. Also when the link rotator is running and I right click the pop-up menu also includes ( at the top) additional options like size of icons, etc. Included in this additional menu is remove toolbar - which temporarily removes the toolbar, until I reboot. I have tried to unstall the application (it doesn't appear in add/remove programs) and also uninstalling Go MP3 - both of which do nothing to get rid of this. Microsoft Support was, of course, useless and I really don't want to have to reinstall the operating system and start over as it would take a ton of time to reinstall all my software and backup quite a few gigs of data.

Thank you for your efforts

I've just moved up from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Ultimate. Some probs but reasonably manageable so far.
One thing bugs me. With XP, I've liked to have a taskbar autohiding at the bottom of my screen, and a toolbar autohiding at the right-hand side in which I keep shortcuts to all my favourite applications and some folders/files.
When I right-click to open a new toolbar, it gets added as an adjunct to the existing taskbar at bottom of screen. I can't physically separate it.
Is this a Windows 7 thing? Or am I missing something really obvious? I've clicked the 'don't merge' and that doesn't seem to do anything to resolve this.
Thanks Anthony

Does anyone know if, when using the "links" toolbar on the taskbar:

i.e.: right click on task bar > click toolbars > check "links" box << to turn it on

can you customize links to open using specific browsers? I guess this doesn't really matter, but if it is just a matter of a few clicks then it would be worth it.

My default browser is firefox, but the outlook web access is crappy in firefox and I need to use IE for it...so I'm wondering if I can make all the links in the links bar open in firefox (not hard since it is default) but then make just the link for email open in IE.

I will click on my toolbar that opens a folder on my D: drive and periodically it will take forever to render. It just pops up an empty/blank.

Then after 30 or so seconds, it will fill with my small number of files.

It will then pop up quickly for say the next 3 or 4 times and then again go into LaLa land taking a long time to render.

I've gone into Safe Mode, but the problem persists.

It appears to me that it isn't necessarily the toolbar that's the issue, but that something is happening very minute or so that is tying up my machine making click actions none responsive it seems, even giving me the blue circle wait thingy next to my cursor.

Since I'm not able to do much for what feels like 30 seconds each time this occurs, I can't run task mgr to see if there is a process eating up 100% cpu or something.

Ideas?

Friends:

Let me ask some questions about the Toolbar in the Taskbar:

1. There are several toolbars like "Address, Links, Desktop" and when I choose them nothing happens. ??
2. What difference does it make if they have check marks next to them or not?
3. When I choose "New Toolbar" why does it ask me for a folder? Why dont I just give it a name and then add items to it?
4. What is the purpose of "Lock the Taskbar"?
5. I guess I don't understand the moniker or it would all make sense. I have read some tutorials, but all they say are descriptions of each menu choice. Do you all know of a good one that goes into detail?

Thanks amigos,

if you remove the tick from one of them ,watch the bar carefully

for example if you remove the tick from address ,you remove the address bar where you type in www.whate versite[/url] you want to go to (that's just an example )

lock the bar means just that ,

I want to setup a Link toolbar on the right side of my screen to hold shortcuts. I can do this in WinXP by ripping a Link toolbar off the taskbar and sticking it to the right side of the screen.

Problem with Win7 is I can't seem to rip a Link toolbar off the taskbar. Can this be done?

I don't want to use StarDock ObjectDock or anything like that. A simple Link toolbar with auto-hide enabled is all I need.

Answer:Q: How to pull Link toolbar off taskbar?

Hi SmokeyMoe, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could create a new folder somewhere to use to create a new taskbar toolbar with for the shortcuts. You would then just place any shortcut you like in the new folder to be displayed in the toolbar.

Scenario -
When I right-click on the taskbar there is an option "toolbars => new toolbar". Using it you can add a folder (for example). Now when you go to look at the folder using the toolbar the size of the drop down text is extremely small and hard to read.

Question: Is there an option inside Windows or a registry entry that can be modified to increase the size of the font?

For toolbars started in the Vista taskbar, how do you remove the Title? The option doesn't seem to exist any longer.

i.e. under older windows you could:

If you add one or two toolbars to your Windows taskbar, regain some space. Right-click on your created taskbar and on the popup menu that appears, uncheck "Show Title." This removes the title description for your taskbar. If you know the programs on the taskbar by their icon and don't need to see the names of the programs, uncheck "Show Text" as well.

Does this no longer exist in Vista and that I can no longer reclaim the space?

Ok folks
My taskbar keeps hiding from me and the Auto Hide Check box is un-checked in the task bar properties.

The Toolbar show the menu bar items in itself, like the file, view, edit buttons are in the toolbar itself, and there is no actual menu bar.

The funny thing is that when I open this web page it looks normal, but if I go to another web page ie Google it goes back to the messed up toolbar taskbar and no menu bar.

I have tried to change it all by right clicking and going to properties but whith no avail. I have no idea even how this happened.

Any help you comp. wiz's could lend would be most appreciated.

I was wondering if someone knew why part of the first icon on my custom toolbars displays when I lock the taskbar (see pic - I've highlighted the partial icons in red). I've tried sqeezing them as close together before I lock the taskbar, but that's doesn't solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm having the same problem and it's frustrating.

I recently added two custom Toolbars for the Desktop and the Quick Launch folders to my Windows taskbar. I positioned the Toolbars and locked the taskbar as per to my liking. However, after restarting the PC, my toolbars are randomly moved somewhere else on the taskbar.

How can I retain my toolbars' positions after restarting the PC? It's frustrating to adjust the toolbars after every boot-up.

Hi Munna2002,

Quick launch disappears
Take a look at the above thread and see if there's a fix in there. The poster has a similar problem to you. First try the regedit fix mentioned in the first post.

Hope this helps,

I've been looking all over the paces and was not able to find any inteligent answer.
Recently I lost my icons sort order for Quick Launch toolbar. any time after I move icons around to place all in some logical (to me) order, the next time I reboot the computer they are place in some default order that does make any sense to me.

How can I keep my order intact? Where the icons positions (sort order) is stored?

Answer:Windows 10 taskbar toolbar icons

Hi, this isn't a problem particular to Win 10.
I'm assuming you've reinstated the Quick Launch toolbar (e.g. Tutorial)

I have the latest version of iTunes pinned to my taskbar and whenever I open iTunes, it creates a new icon next to it.

I have had this problem recently on Windows 7, however I fixed it by pinning the 'open' iTunes icon to the taskbar and unpinning the 'closed' one. I updated to Windows 10 and this was not an issue. HOWEVER, now I've purchased a new computer and the problem is persisting BUT this time on my new computer, it doesn't give me the option to pin the 'open' icon.
So in other words, if I pin/unpin one of the open OR closed icons, the command will happen to both icons.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Taskbar creating duplicate of iTunes icon when I open it

Unpin the iTunes icon. Then open iTunes, then pin it. If that doesn't work, then Apple has done something stupid.

Answer:Can't clear history of Taskbar's Address Toolbar

When you hover your mouse over the URL, is there a red X next to it? If there is, then click the X to delete it.

Oh, wait .... I'm talking about typed URL's in the Address bar at the top of the Windows screen.

after seeing all the widespread hate towards avg, I decided to move to "system mechanic" since it was voted the best of 2014 for windows maintenance. I ran a scan then looked over everything and it looked fine so I clicked "fix problems" thinking it was only getting rid of dead shortcuts and checking if it needs to defrag or anything of that nature. Now for some reason its doing this.

you guys have helped me before so I was wondering if you know why it might be doing these things, its been really annoying. Since I didn't have this problem with AVG I have since moved back to AVG. I know that programs like that aren't needed however its just way easier to press a single button then going through all of my setting by hand. I am starting to see now that its not as convenient as I thought.

Answer:My Windows Toolbar/Taskbar is acting strangly

there is a bit of news on this, for some reason my screen is also able to be selected by hovering my mouse over another screen, how do I make it so I have to click the applications to select them? Like if im in skype talking to someone and my mouse slides off of skype it will go to that program and make it the active program window. I think thats the key to fixing the problem if anyone knows how to turn off the "hover select" (for lack of a better term).

Hello all,
Accidentally, I discovered the following entry in my taskbar toolbars:

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/1621/taskbar1.png
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4830/taskbar2blank.png

As you can see the blank entry does not appear when i right click on taskbar and select toolbars (taskbar1.png). However when i right click on taskbar and then click on properties, the last tab (toolbars) displays an unknown entry (not seen before) with blank title (taskbar2blank.png).

I noticed that the same happens even when the system boots in safe mode.
A google search didn't help much. I am very familiar with registry editing, but am unable to find the key where these toolbars are added. I also tried running hijackthis but it is very difficult to find something with no name...

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I foolishly ran a Keygen on my PC (Windows 2000) and it loads advertisng URLs (links) on my toolbar and taskbar and on the blue border on top of any open window. When I reboot I get a dialogue box saying (in the blue border) 'Program Error' and in the main body it says ' process has already exited> has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log has been created'. I have run a Registry cleaner and Spybot a few times but the problem repeats itself with every reboot.Any ideas?

I'm trying to find out if there is a keyboard shortcut to move focus to the Address toolbar when it is added to the taskbar. (Again, this is the address bar in the taskbar, not the address bar in an explorer or browser window for which ALT+D is the shortcut.) I've searched Microsoft's list of Keyboard shortcuts, but did not find any information. And my Google searches have not found anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:Keyboard shortcut for Taskbar's Address Toolbar

I know this post is old but I was going crazy looking for this same deal, what I ended up doing was downloading autohotkey and writing a script that assigned one of my function keys (F1) to set the focus to the address bar.

F1::ControlFocus,ComboBox1,ahk_class Shell_TrayWnd

then i compiled the script and put it in my startup.

Hope this helps

custom toolbar on windows 7 task bar getting disappeared.

When I am navigating through the menu, it suddenly vanishes. I will have to point to the menu again to navigate, its been annoying. Any fix for the issue ?

Attached screen shot.

Answer:custom toolbar on windows 7 taskbar getting disappearing

A not too well toolbar problem exists. The third party extensions and toolbars are stripped when you launch from the taskbar. Pinned sites on the taskbar are not the same as the url that you try to pin. But if you drag the site to the taskbar while holding down the shift key it will be put there as a url and the third party extensions will be intact.
