Xtreme Download Manager, Please share your feedback

Question: Xtreme Download Manager, Please share your feedback

Hi All,

Since its first experimental release for Windows in Jan 14, XDM has gone through a lot of changes/improvements.
The main goal of XDM was to combine the features of commercial download managers into a free open source application.
Current stable version is 4.7 build 127.

Please share your opinions and feedback to improve XDM further.

Features:

Download acceleration: increases download speed up-to 5-6 times using intelligent dynamic segmentation, connection reuse and compression.
Integration with ANY browser of ANY version: Advanced browser integration feature enables XDM to take over downloads from ANY browser or application.
Save streaming video from YouTube, Metacafe, Vimeo, Dailymotion and many other video sharing websites. XDM supports DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) for New YouTube and Dailymotion videos.
Resume downloads even if the download link is expired.
XDM supports every type of proxy including Windows ISA, with NTLM, Negitiate, Kerberos, Basic authentication, automatic proxy configuration scripts etc.
Batch download, clipboard monitoring, scheduler, download queue, auto shutdown, virus scan a lot of other features.
XDM is free, open source and available for Windows and Linux.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Xtreme Download Manager, Please share your feedback

Seeing as this is open source I will definitely give this a try. It looks very similar to IDM which is a very good thing.

So I've been monitoring this software for over 2 years and was impressed at it's pace of development. I've been sticking myself to either EagleGet or IDM over this time period as they were better. But right now the time is right for the big switch as XDM has now implemented multiple queue's in it's latest update.

XDM by Subhra Das Gupta, is a free open-source download manager that works on Windows & Linux (Mac version is coming) . If you were a user of either EagleGet or IDM you would feel right at home, because XDM has the following features that made the other two popular

1. Media grabber: download from almost any website in various formats
2. Multiple Queue's: Scheduled/Unscheduled multiple download queue's
3. Refresh link: to continue downloading from expired download links
4. Multi-Browser integration: with Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Vivaldi as well Chromium & Firefox clones
5. Download categories: organize your downloads according to filetype
6. Download acceleration: using multiple threads/segments (upto 32)
7. Batch download: download a range of files from a webpage
8. Speed limiter: set download speed limit for files and adjust traffic usage
9: Sites manager: auto-authentication for websites
10: Proxy support: to work behind http & ftp proxy servers
11. Import/Export downloads: manage your downloads

and much more....

It's short name is XDM . Looks like IDM copy, and its FREEWARE. One of the most interesting feature is that it can be installed in Linux/Mac as well as Windows. So, in LInux, who still misses IDM, and who don't want to pay for IDM in Windows, perfectly suits them.

I am going to test it on Windows as well as on linux, both on Virtual Machines, lets see how this one works.

I'm facing the following problem: I would like to have my Disk space (750GB) subdivided to accomplish the following
1 - Boot Windows XP Prof SP2 x86
2 - Boot Windows XP Prof SP2 x64
3 - Store my Data Folders and Files separately (to do Backups from one place).
4 - Boot to Ubuntu 7.10 and alternatively
5 - Boot to Ubuntu Server
6 - Create System Backups for my Laptop (6.1), old PC (6.2) and for this new PC (6.3).

Explanation:
2. Currently I've installed the x64 OS, but it does not supports my Canon LiDE 500F Scanner, my Logitech QuickCam Zoom and many of the 32bit SW, like MSN Live and others.
1. On an other, networked PC I do have a working x86 OS with tons of programs installed.

Questions:
a - The above described Disk layout would mean that I would have more than 4 NTFS partitions. However, how I read about it, NTFS with MBR only allows 4 partitions. The first 2 Windows XP's (Partition 1 - x86, Partition 2- x64 - This sequence is btw. another Windows requirement) have to have MBR to be able boot from it. The Windows Disk Management utility tells me that my Unix (Ubuntu) installation occupies another Partition, in matter of fact Partition 4, showed as an Unknown Partition.
This approach leaves me only Partition 3 to accomplish all the above described tasks. Can that Partition 3 be configured as a GPT? As I understood, GPT allows up to 128 partitions.

b - Once partitioning is solved, can I copy with XXCLONE my working 32bit system (from my old PC) to Partitio... Read more

I have been searching for a good archiver that will handle both .zip and .rar files and after reading the review here : PeaZip - Freeware Portable Archive Manager | The Windows Club
I thought Peazip might be it ....... what was I thinking ...duh , think again
Gotta tell ya , Peazip did not even make 10 minutes on my system .
First thing that I absolutely did not like is that is reassociates your archive icons without even asking you first ...... a big no , no in my book , if your gonna make visual changes to someones system .....ASK and give them the option to opt out of it .
Second , it was supposed to be easy to use ...... hmmm , I would not call me technologicaly challenged but I am not slouch when it comes to pc's and I could not for the life of me figure how to extract a password protected rar file , winrar makes this childs play .
Third , after uninstalling the program did not reassociate my archive icons , I had to manually rebuild my icon cache , not that do not know how to do it but it is really annoying that the programmer did not have the presence of mind to even put things back the way it was should the user unistall his software , it's like he did not even care .
Whomever programmed this software has a long way to go , I would not recommend this software to anyone , especially novices , stick with the Windows extraction utility for zip files and winrar for rar files .
To date I have found nothing easier to use , there are those that claim they are eas... Read more

Can I trouble you for your feedback on something else. Every few months I clean install the Windows operating system on my PC. Is it the same for you in that sometimes the Windows 8 setup picks up all of the devices (it usually only misses one..a Bluetooth peripheral device with a question mark. That's easily sorted by installing Wireless drivers from Dell site). Then on other occasions it'll leave the occasional exclamation mark usually listed in Other Devices but not always that disappears when the chipsets are installed. Most of the time I never get these at all but its happened a couple of times lately. Im wondering if its caused because Im installing from Windows 8 DVD and not from a factory image.
I guess really what Im asking is..Is the Windows Installation sometimes a bit hit and miss at picking up everything in Device Manager during initial setup?

Answer:Device Manager errors after a clean install feedback

A factory image will have ALL the drivers and utilities.
A standard Win 8 DVD will install the vast majority of the drivers.
8.1 will recognize even more drivers, as MSC strives to get Windows to recognize all drivers.

As for redoing your system a few times per year, I do that too, but I use an image, not the OEM factory restore, otherwise it would take me hours to set it all up again the way I like it.
Are you familiar with the built in Windows System Iamage feature?

Hi! there,Although my desktop computer is in good working order, like lots of you, I like to build and repair desktop computers, as a hobby, and like to keep my pc up to date. For curiosity, I have run several driver scans on my system, in the last few weeks, and on each occasion, they reveal that several drivers require updating, to keep my system in top condition. My question is: How reliable are these companies who offer driver downloads to people who subscribe and pay a small fee to download their drivers?Has anyone out there tried them, and are they any good. I do not mind paying if the company fulfils their obligation and all missing/updated drivers are available. I would NOT like to pay, then find out that some of the drivers they say require updating, are NOT available in their service. As an O.A.P I can do without that.If you have payed for and used such a driver download programme, I would be glad to hear of your opinion, before I proceed with any definite subscription. Many thanks for your feedback on this matter.

Answer:Feedback on Driver Download Packages

"How reliable are these companies who offer driver downloads to people who subscribe and pay a small fee to download their drivers?"Have you looked at the various manufacturers sites? In general they offer the latest drivers free of charge.

Hi,

Due to my work I often hav to work with net shares.
These have all different Settings (IP, Domain, User, Password) - and they are also not all always availible (so that auto remount is not working).

Also my Notebook is set up that way that it is not saving the credentials (Password) of a netshare (or RDP) connection - and also the basic settings (IP) are only saved for the latest connectins.

So I'm interessted if there is a management Tool that helps me to manage that situation, so that I can store allmy Settings & Credentials , so that I can double Click just to connect a net share without explicitely entering all data manually.

For RDP there is the RDP Manager that archives exactelly this - but is there something for netshares?

Answer:Network share Manager?

Hi there,

Are you referring it to this Netshare?

I've been using IDM (6.25 build 3 most recently) happily for quite some time. For Christmas I purchased an online class which streams (?) from a .com website. I paid $128 for the class which remains online. Although I can view it anytime, I'd like to have it on my hard drive so I can put it on my laptop and watch it in bed instead of sitting at my desktop computer. Also I've purchased classes in the past and the website went out of business and *poof* my purchased classes went with them!!

When I use IDM to download the .flv file and play it back using Windows media player, I only get audio...no video.

Can anyone suggest:
-- what's going wrong?
-- a solution
-- another program I can use?

Thanks for the assist!
LuniLadi

Answer:Internet Download Manager Plays Only Audio For .flv Download

IDM is currently at 6.25 build 12. IDM only downloads files it doesn't play them. That's the job of your media player. An alternate media player you might try is VLC available at Major Geeks.

I seem to have broken the Feedback Hub - I can't log any feedback ( I just get circling dots which never end).

This is on a PC where I've just clean-installed 1709 in the last few days. The problem happens on all accounts on the machine (one local, one local admin, one MS Account admin).

Other aspects of the Hub (eg. displaying news on latest Insider builds) seem to work OK, but I can't log anything.

So far I've tried
Going to the list of All Apps in Settings, selecting Advanced Options for the app and then ResetUninstalling the app using Powershell (using this Tutorial) and re-installingUsing the Store Apps Troubleshooter

Incidentally the thing I was trying to log was high CPU usage by Desktop Windows Manager - not sure if it could be related or indicative of another problem?

Any ideas on what I can try next?

Hello fellow members. I'm currently in a siltation where I need to copy a large number of files from several directories on a Windows machine to a network drive. The files will be copied using the standard Windows file sharing protocol.Anyone who have ever tried to do this with the standard Explorer copy function know how horribly unsuited it is for such a task.I need a is a program that can do the followling:- Enqueue several copy jobs.- I may need to abort a transfer from time to time so the program should be able to handle resumes in an intelligent way. I.e. instead of prompting me every time it tries to copy a file that already exist on the destination drive, it should be able to determine on its own what to do. (Skip if the files are identical, else overwrite.)Basically these are features you would expect from any decent FTP client but I have so far been unable to find one that can do the same for network shares. So I'm hoping someone here knows just the program I need.Freeware would be nice, but if the software is good enough I wouldn't mind paying for it either. And the program needs to be compatible with XP.Any suggestions are welcome.

It looks you have a problem in IDM's dynamic file segmentation. Try to download the IDM again from its site, make a fresh install and check if the problem persists.

Hi Guys,
I recently downloaded bbc iplayer, when I click on it, it - rightly says I have no programmes to watch.

I click through the "download programmes" button which brings me to the iplayer home page - so far so good.

I select (for example) TV, John Bishops Britain, then select download options, for iplayer desktop-"click" and ....drumroll, nothing, nyada, zilch!!

I de installed and reinstalled thinking perhaps there was a corrupt file somewhere, this made no difference.

I then selected download for windows media player and got this message;

Software upgrade required
To download BBC iPlayer programmes please upgrade your version of Windows Media Player. Click here to get the latest version from Microsoft.

So far as I can see for my OS (XP pro) wmp11 IS the latest version available and the one I'm using.

It's really quite frustrating, I have had no luck on the support site or, so far by trawling through the net looking for answers. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in anticipation and best regards,
Brian.

Answer:BBC Iplayer download manager - wont download!!!

Instead of downloading it through the desktop program download them on line they should go strait to your Iplayer desktop
go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/
go to the required show
scroll under the video
click "download options"
then "for iplayer desktop"

Quote:
A free download manager designed to integrate seamlessly with Windows 7 is now available from Microsoft. Dubbed the Microsoft Download Manager, the utility is designed, as the label implies, to help users administer their downloads beyond the boundaries of the browser. More often than not, downloading very large files can be problematic, especially in the context of an unreliable connection. It is precisely in scenarios like these that a download manager will carry out any download tasks to the end, unlike browsers missing this functionality.

?The Microsoft Download Manager enables you to download files from the Internet in a more reliable and faster way than using a browser alone. Using the Download Manager makes it easier to download large files such as an application or multimedia files,? Microsoft explained.

According to the Redmond company, the Microsoft Download Manager comes to the table with support not only for Windows 7, but also for Windows Vista and Windows XP SP2 and SP3. Microsoft Download Manager was designed to work with Internet Explorer 8, IE7 and IE6 but also with Firefox 3 and Firefox 2.

Just looking for recommendations on these two kinds off apps.
Download manager-I've used Flashget in the past. It's OK so I could go back to it. I'm just wondering if there are any others that are worth looking at and why.
Wallpaper manager-I've noticed that many of the wallpaper managers strictly work with photos from the hard drive. I'd be interested in something similar to Google Screensaver that pulls wallpaper from the web, even from news stories. It looks like there was a Google Wallpaper for a while but it closed. I used Eyetide several years ago but they became a spyware trojan so I guess that's the other thing. Spyware free, please. It's too bad. It used to be a good product. I noticed one called Cool Wallpaper but I dunno.

If you have, say, two laptops both running Windows 8.1, and it gets to the monthly Microsoft update Tuesday it seems crazy to have both machines independently downloading the same set of updates totalling around 300MB as was the case yesterday. Does anyone know if it is possible for one machine to run the updates, and then share the download files with another machine - whether via the local network (LAN) or via a usbkey or other media?

Certainly on my linux machines I have one machine run udpates and I then share the update package cache with all other machines saving considerable bandwidth on my home broadband connection. It would make a lot of sense to be able to do the same for Windows machines running the same version of Windows. The saving would increase even more if there was more than two machines in the same household such as if all members of the same family had their own machine.

Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

Answer:Share windows update download files between two machines?

You can only download update files, copy them to other computer and install them manually.

I have Google Drive, and it appears to be working great in terms of providing me access to anything I put in there from my home computer. The docs, jpegs, videos, etc, show up on remote computers and on my Android phone. So far, so good.

But when I access the docs or powerpoints and try to open them up, I have two issues: 1) they will only open in Google Docs. There is no option for "download" either in the "file" or "more" sections, so I can't open them as powerpoint files or Word files or whatever.

2) I have no idea how to share them in terms of sending them on to others. I don't want to "share" them in the sense of allowing someone access to them, a la Dropbox; I'm talking about simply retrieving a document or whatever, opening it, then sending it on to someone else. I imagine solving the first problem will take care of the second....

Thanks for any advice. I really need Google Drive to work.

Hi all:

From the MS Store.
I bought a FULL VERSION Vista Home Premium DVD actual disc not the downloaded version.
With the right to a FULL VERSION Win 7 when it releases on Oct 22nd.

I am thinking of getting it by downloading it from MS.

My question is really Simple.

How do I burn the iso to disk after Downloading it with the Download Manager to make it Bootable as if I got the actual disk?

A friend of mine said he downloaded his his was Vista without the Download Manager and there were (3)- Separate files and couldn't figure out how to make it a bootable disk so he returned it for the actual media.

NOW if I download my Win 7 Full Version disk to my Drive using the download manager, WILL IT be a single iso file so that I can burn it as a bootable disk?

And if it is suppose to be 3- separate files then how do I go about combining them to make it bootable?

I'd hate to choose the download option and not be able to make use of it, Only to have to pay FULL Price for an actual copy.

When I could just get my Free Copy for the price of Shipping and of coarse tax.

Any advice or Links I'd be most Grateful......

Answer:How do I burn iso after download using download Manager

It should be a single ISO file.
-

How to burn an ISO image to disc..

Its simple really, download this, save it somewhere.

When its done downloading, go to the location you saved it, and extract the .zip file.

After that, open the folder it created and run 'IsoBurner'

Click on this;
Attachment 29934

Then locate the .iso file and select it.

Then burn it, you should also set the speed to the lowest possible to ensure their are no problems burning.

Sorry if its not that clear, I'm half awake about to go to sleep.

Answer:download breaks despite download manager

Your computer stats (all kind) are not very helpful. What OS are you using.? Is your download manager a 3rd party software prog or are you using the capability of resuming downloads on the MS site? Another point... Every time my computer crashes??? Does that happen a lot? if so, you may have a whole different kind of problem.

When i had windows XP installed, i never had trouble tranfering from one network share to another... I would at least get roughtly 25MBs.. but with Vista (32 & 64) and Windows 7, transfering between network shares is super slow.. could takes days sometimes...

is this happening to other people??

Answer:vista: Network Share to Local = ~50MB/s | Share to Share = 1MB/s.. Huh?

I believe, this is also caused when I have to transfer files from my ipod. that it has to cache on my computer, and then transfer to the network share / computer, this is my theory, I never tested it ofc, maybe someone with more knowledge could help.

it's like unpacking a rar into a network share.

Just a reminder: it's great to post on this forum, but please submit problems to the Windows Feedback app, too.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7...dows-10-a.html

Even better, do a quick search and upvote someone else's feedback.

To Microsoft, if it doesn't gain traction in the Feedback app, it doesn't exist. Yes, that's short-sighted, but that's how modern Microsoft operates.

Question: Download Manager

I need a good download manager (preferably free but I'll buy if worth it). I unfortunately have to use HughesNet which limits me to 450MB of data per day. However they don't limit usage from 11pm-4am. Problem is I'm at work in those hours and I have files to download that are up to 4GB. Is there a good download manager that will allow me to set a time for multiple downloads and have them start automatically in that 11-4 window?

And sorry if this a repeat thread but the others I found were a couple of years old so I thought there might be something new out there. Thanks!

Answer:Download Manager

You may want to check the Internet Tools section of the download pages. This will probably have a few tools that may or may not meet your requirements.

I've used Free Download Manager in the past and liked it, but it has been so long that I can't recall if it has the scheduling capabilities that you require. (Although, with the proper research of the command-line interface, you may be able to get it to work with Windows inbuilt scheduler)

Question: Download Manager??

I recently downloaded and installed one of those free download managers.

I had been using one called "WellGet", but it stopped working for some reason, and the author no longer has a web site.

I know a lot of those things have spyware, adware, and malware. I had been using WellGet for several years, and had no indication of any infections from it, or that it even contained any of those things itself.

I have a primitive archaic dial up, which is why I have even considered and used a download manager. The capability to resume downloads is critical when you've been downloading something for hours and then it disconnects. My virus defs are approaching 40MB now, and the daily updates I do, manually by the way, just about require the ability to resume if there is a disconnect. There is nothing quite as bothersome as having a large download interrupted and then having to start all over again.

I would switch to broadband and be done with the whole issue, but I live in a rural area and broadband is just not that reliable. I've considered satellite, but that seems like it would be just as much hassle as dial up.

In any case, I Googled on download managers, and came across a link for reviews by that Spybot S&D guy. He recommended "LeechGet" and "Download Express" as spware and adware free, but I tried them and was not very satisfied with their GUI

So, I am currently trying "Free Download Manager" (FDM). I use McAfee SiteAdvisor... Read more

Answer:Download Manager??

Hi BobJam,

Stick with FDM, you won't get a better download manager - it's versatile, can resume downloads, and you can even tweak the number of download connections into which your download is split to do concurrent downloading on parts of a single file. Two thumbs up as the best download tool - only on Windows, however afaik.

Don't need anything fancy. Something free or very cheap, NOT loaded with spyware, want to be able to pause the downloads and resume later. Something that can handle a bunch of downloads (or at least put them in queue) at a time if necessary.

Oh and if you are downloading multiple files with the same name, I'd like it to create a new name for the second file instead of having to type one in myself.

Question: Download Manager

I recently gave up my Direcway satellite broadband and returned to dial-up . My Dial-up ISP has an accelerator program (Propel) that works pretty good for browsing but is useless for downloads. I get about 2.7kbps. A simple definitions update from AVG takes almost 45 minutes for a 5Mb file. I looked on www.download.com and found quite a number of utilities after searching on "Download Manager". Among them were Kazaa and a couple of other names I've seen associated with spyware.

So I'm looking for a recommendation on the best free download manager and also whether there are any gotchas associated with download managers in general.
