Preferred Solution: Which Office Suite do you use ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Which Office Suite do you use ?

We have it on 2 of the 3 computers we have and it doesn't seem to be compatible with Word as it is said to be. When my daughter attaches her assignments to her professor it doesn't work.

It is on a refurbished Dell ( XP PRO Interl® Celeron® CPU: 2.40 GHZ, 2.39Ghz, RAM: 504 MB).

What might I try to get these programs to sync?

Thanks so much!

Answer:compatibility of "open office" suite and Microsoft Office Suite?

Hello alpad,

When she saves the document to send to the professor, which format is she saving it in? If she saves it as the default .odt, Word won't be able to open it. In the small window by "Save as Type" she needs to click the arrow to cause the drop down menu to come up, then select the proper Word version to save it as. My version of Open Office has the following MS Word options:

MS Word 97/2000/XP (.doc)
MS Word 95 (.doc)
MS Word 6.0 (.doc)

There is also an XML version. The latest version of Open Office, version 3, is also compatible with MS Word 2007; however, I don't know how that appears in the drop down menu as I don't yet have that version of Open Office.

Once she has chosen the proper Word format, then she needs to save the document. This is the version she should submit to the professor.

Hello all, the entire Office 2003 suite one day looks old like 2000 or Windows 2000 icons in general.

Does anyone know why this happened and how it could be fixed?

Answer:Entire Office 2003 suite looks like Office 2000

This had happened to me once but in office 2007. It happened when I tried to open an older file type so It went into compatibility mode, which also changes the layout.

Not sure if its the same thing with office 2003 but go into options, advanced, and see if you can find something like compatibility options or layout.

Anyway if its not their your looking for some kind of option like that so snoop around all the options, views, and windows menus.

Question: Office Suite

I have used Lotus 123, Wordpro and Freelance (or earlier versions from Lotus for up to 20 years! I am used to writing macros in 123 linked to Freelance to automatically update graphs etc on a daily basis. Should I consider going through the learning curve of switching to Microsoft, or will Lotus keep up - is it still available? I am retired now so do not need to be quite so up to date, and only want to consider Lotus or Microsoft, rather than other suites. Any views?

Answer:Office Suite

I've never used Lotus but I've got used to MS office. If you don't do that much anyway you might consider OpenOffice as its free.If your old Lotus still works and you're used to it I don't see why you don't just keep using it.As a cheaper alternative to the full office you could also consider MS Works.

Question: Best Office suite

Hi all!! I am a newbie in this forum.. My dad has recently shifted to his new office and he needs a new office suite..As it is he's gonna buy so I am thinking of upgrading my personal pc as well. I suggested him the Microsoft Office 2007 Professional. What do you say guys? Shall we go for it? Also the price I found here was ?291 and pc world is having the same for ?350 I want to know why is there such a huge difference between the prices when the product is da same? I am really confused. Dont wanna suggest something wrong to my dad and get my pocket money screwed up..Help Guys!! Thanks in advance..

Answer:Best Office suite

I'm not familiar with but it seems to be legitimate.  Yes, the price difference between the two sites is substantial, but I don't think the prices on are any indication of pirated/illegal software.  If you come across MS Office selling for, say, a third or less than the normal retail price, that's when you really need to be suspicious.  So, I would buy from  If either you or your father already have an older version of MS Office, an upgrade version of Office 2007, rather than a full version, will save money.  And, you might also review the differences between versions of MS Office 2007.  For example, if you have no need for Access, then the Standard edition may be quite adequate for you.  And, then, there's an entirely free alternative:

I purchased MS Office Suite Home and Student 2010 without the Outlook component.

3 months later thru a promotion at work I was offered MS Office Suite Professional 2010 which I took advantage of to get the Outlook.

Problem is that the Home and Student was downloaded and installed and working fine in a 64bit and the product from work was 32bit. Not compatible.

I want to uninstall the 64 and install the 32bit so that I can have the Outlook program but I want to do so as CLEANLY as possible.

Can anyone help me go thru the steps?

Answer:MS Office suite 2010

Welcome to WSF.

Office 2010 64-bit will uninstall quite happily via Control Panel>Uninstall Programs, but you might want to use a third-party uninstaller such as Revo, which will scan the registry for remnants and leftover files.

Make sure you reboot after you've uninstalled the 64-bit version, and then install your 32-bit version.

Answer:Sun Office Suite Professional

It is pretty close to MSO; PCA did an evaluation of it using members of this forum and people had mixed reactions to it. Personally I found it good, but I don't go in for much of the advanced features. It will depend on the version though; version 6 is good, version 5.2 less so.

Question: Open Office Suite

Does anyone know anything about this program? I've been having a bit of trouble with my office 2000 (word) and was wondering if it was worth a try. I assume it's safe to use?

Answer:Open Office Suite

It is safe to use. If you were working with word 2000, then yes, open libre (office) will work fine. Though, if you use macros or anything special, you'll have to re-work them.

We are currently going from 2007 to 2010. Surprisingly the transition from 2003 to 2007 wasn't as bad as going from 2007 to 2010. The users aspect that is.

I installed MS Office 2007 Pro on my then new Dell Latitude D830 laptop computer running Windows 7 about 8 months ago. I am buying a new computer from the Dell outlet, an XPS 8100 with Windows 7, but no programs, to replace my 10 year old Dell Dimension desktop running Windows XP and MS Office 2003. I have never configured nor (obviously) used the Outlook 2007 program on the laptop. I want to remove the Office 2007 pro Outlook program from my laptop and re-install it on the new desktop along with a new MS 2010 Office Home and Student licensed suite. Can I legally do this?...if not can I remove the entire 2007 suite from my laptop and re-install it on the new desktop? I'd then put a new MS 2010 Office Home and student licensed suite on the laptop...I never need to use Outlook on the laptop. Not sure about how Microsoft reacts to previously web activated suites being re-activated on a different computer...
Thanks for any help....

Answer:Move MS Office suite

If you have a license for Outlook or Office 2007 you can install just Outlook 2007 alongside the Office 2010 installation unless it is an OEM copy that came with the computer. If it is OEM you can only have it installed on the computer it came with.

Here is where I'm at, when I click on MS Word, nothing opens. In Task Manager, winword.exe runs for about 2-3 seconds then disappears. "winword /a" (safe mode?) does the same thing. Excel, same thing. No error messages, nothing in Event Viewer!

Now here's what lead up to it, the user installed Office 2007 Ultimate, via a download from school website, and for some reason it didn't work. After a reinstall or two, it was completely fouled up. The program was essentially missing, yet was listed in Add/Remove. When you click Remove, an hourglass appears then just goes back to Add/Remove after about 10 seconds. I installed MS Windows Installer 4.5, rebooted, and was able to then install Office 2007, then Uninstall, delete office12 user folder, reinstall, no change.

Ran Office self diagnostic tool, says everything is Fine.

Adobe Reader 9.1 had recently been installed, and that may be the culprit, because of the way that is acting. In Add/Remove it gives an error message, can't remove, and when you download the installer, it gives an error, can't install. It opens okay, but when you print a PDF, it gives an error, saying no pages have been selected to print. Foxit Reader works okay. Adobe is trashed, is there a manual way to remove it? I couldn't find an uninstaller tool.

Found a MSKB article that was semi-specific to this problem, but did not help. I think at this point a system restore would either fail or just cause problems. I ran dial-a-fix, ran the security fi... Read more

After looking through several posts, I am wondering which is the best application to replace MS Office. I have seen a few suggestions, still I see nothing that will completely replace MS Office. I use office Outlook, word, XL, and occasionally presentation and PPS.
Here are the three suggested, none of which can replace MS Office.
Open Office (Apache)
Libre Open Office
WPS Office Free
Is there a better application out there that is safe? I had problems with peripherals working after installing Libre Open Office and uninstalled it, using System Restore.
Or along with any of these recommendations is there an  additional application that would provide the other MS Office functions?
All recommendations are considered and thanks for your help.

Answer:Office Suite Best Choice

WPS Office Free would be my choice. I have found that files that choke on Libre or Open Office open fine in WPS. WPS seems to have the best compatibility with Microsoft Office.

I recently installed an update.  Shortly afterward I encountered a .dll error when attempting to open Microsoft Excel.  I attempted to repair the program twice, with no success.  Same with Word.  I uninstalled MS Office with the intent of reinstalling.  However, when I attempted to do that, I was asked for my MS account info, along with a product key.  My laptop came with MS Office pre-installed, so I do not have a product key. One hour of chat with Microsoft technical support resulted in the customer service representative suggesting I contact the manufacturer, as the software was pre-installed. I am using a wireless connection on my home network.  This laptop is my personal equipment. Anyone else have this problem?

I was working on a paper and all of a sudden, the font changes to red and is underlined. I didn't go to the toolbar to change this, I was just typing away.

I've gone to the font selection area of the Home toolbar and it seems to be set on black as the default. The underline button is not on.

Answer:Solved: Office Suite 10 Word

It sounds like your Tracked Changes is on. Go to the Review tab. If the Tracked Changes button is highlighted, drop it down and click "Track Changes". That should turn it off. You'll still see the previous tracked changes, so you will also need to drop down the button for Accept and choose Accept All Changes in Document. Then you should be back to normal.

Hope that helps.

Does anyone have any experience with Kingsoft's office suite (the free one)?

I was downloading Foxit's pdf reader the other day and noticed they appeared to be offering a Foxit office suite on their site. Digging a little deeper, I noticed it was basically the Foxit pdf reader bundled with a Kingsoft developed office suite. I went over to Kingsoft's site for a more direct look and liked that the suite weighed in at less than 40mb (compared to the 200 or so for the more feature rich Libre Office I usually use). I figured it must be a pretty lean and nimble package and that has a certain appeal to me. That said, I'll admit that I raised an eyebrow when I saw that Kingsoft was based way out in Hong Kong, China.

Just curious as to whether anyone has used any Kingsoft software and could weigh in with some quick opinions.

Answer:Anyone used Kingsoft's office suite (free)?

I've used it. There is a button on the main screen that ask you to switch to the paid version but otherwise it's fully featured and very similar to Word 2003.

Hi all,
I'm running an old Samsung NP-NC10 netbook with Windows XP. It has a 16GB SSD (14.8 GB usable) and 2GB of RAM. It's just for tinkering and occasionally for writing papers or presentations while deployed. I'm looking for one of the free office suites for offline work, but need to know what has the smallest footprint. Windows and the AV/Firewall software only take about 5GB, so I have a little over 9GB left. While LibreOffice fits, it fills most of the drive and I really only need Word/Excel/Powerpoint equivalents. Everything else is fluff I likely won't use. Thank you in advance for your time and your help.

Answer:Small footprint office suite

You have a few options
Use Google Docs
Use Office 365 free  Edit: I missed the offline part, sorry.
Install the portable version of LibreOffice to a USB flash drive and run it form there. Double click the exe file and install it to your flash drive. You can also install the Portable Apps Launcher then install Libre Office. This will allow you to easily launch other portable apps from the main interface.

I have home office 2007 for vista, when i try to open the word or any of the other office program it pops up with box windows installer. After this runs it pops up with "This update package could not be opened." I tried putting the disc back in to do a repair install but the disc is not reading. I am at a lost about what to do so any advice would be good.

Answer:Office suite no longer working

When you say the disk is not reading, do you mean nothing at all happens AND that you can't even see the disk in Windows Explorer to select the repair program if it isn't starting automatically or that it gives you an error message (and if so, what exactly word-for-word)? And if you do try find the repair program in Windows Explorer, what happens when you double-click the icon? Absolutely nothing or does the CD drive at least spin up and then do nothing or do you get some type of error message (again, what word-for-word)?

I'm assuming this is a retail version of the product and not a trial version that has simply expired (if so, you just need to purchase the retail product and install it to replace the trial). Has it ever worked on the system or have you just now installed it for the first time? Was there a prior version of Office installed before you installed this one and if so was this an upgrade or a clean new installation (and if a clean new installation, was the prior version COMPLETELY removed before you installed the new one)?

I installed Microsoft Office Suite on computer with Window Vista, went through all the setup process including activating the Suite on the Internet which was successful. When I opened Microsoft Word the End User License Agreement window appeared with the statement that if I did not accept the terms of the agreement, the program would not be functional. I clicked the button for "Accept" and the window disappeared however, when I re-opened Word (or Excel) the agreement popped up again. I again clicked "Accept" and the same thing occurred. Is this just a faulty install or am I missing something obvious?

I have downloaded multiple copies of Windows Office from a source lets call....LimeLine or LemonWire, but keep getting prompted to enter a 16 or something digit verification number. I DONT HAVE ONE!!! How can I get a copy of windows that will work with Vista for free so I can utelize the Office Suite. Or Should I replace Vista with XP Pro and then start the whole process over? These are pirated copies of the Office program are illegal to run on ANY machine.

You need to BUY a copy of Office which will give a "Key Code" to use, then you can legally use the program.

as different ones have differing office applciations, the one that covers all is Ultimate, but thats at a price! if you can get academic version from your school/uni/workplace then look into if they also supply Enterprise version at a cut down price, some do, where I work we have open licence with MSFT for Office and get 2007 Enterprise for roughly $14

Hello all! I searched and couldn't find the answer to the following question.

I have Office 2010 - two licenses at that, and want to remove the Office 2010 Suite from one computer and out it on another. Do I just go in and set it up on the new/replacement computer and at the point of activation when I try and activate the license it will tell me that I can't and that I need to call this what is going to happen, or can I "deactivate" the license on the computer that is going to be dead soon??

Any help is appreciated!

Answer:Migrate Office 2010 Suite from Old Computer to New One

First issue, if this is an "OEM" version, such as what is on new PC's, the it is only legally licensed for the PC it was delivered with and you would need a new copy of Office (to be legal). Microsoft (Usually) will not reactivate an OEM licensed version on a different PC.

If this is a "Retail" copy of Office you should be able to install it and call Microsoft and get it deactivated from the old PC and activated in the new PC.

So I jumped aboard the 64-bit train and have been running Vista Premium 64 for the last two weeks. Complete problem free, and couldn't be happier. Actually, not true, I could be...

I want to see what this thing can do! Any software out there yet that can take advantage of the 64 bit OS? I was specifically surprised that MS didn't have a full Office version available in 64-bit. Anyone know any rumors on future native versions? What about openoffice or anyother alternatives that run 64 bit? Specicially would like to see how excel works with some of the work related tasks I use everyday, or if it makes no difference.

Anyway, just fishing for info if anyone out there has any insight or juicy rumors

Answer:Must have native 64-bit software? (specifically any office suite?)

office2007 will be released in 64bit mode.
tbf 64bit windows is nothing but epeen atm, there are next to no applications.

For starters everytime you go onto the web the browser being run is the 32bit browser.. why? because flash and java are ONLY avail in 32bit binaries atm

I have been having big problems with Outlook 2000 from Office XP suite. The specific problems were: 1) receiving 20-30 copies of every incoming message, and 2) constant hangups on send/receive.

A cable tech guy from [email protected] came and checked everything out rather extensively and finally, after much testing, determined that the problem was in my software.

He suggested that I reinstall the office xp suite, not just Outlook, after I was careful to back eveyrthing up.

I exported all the mailbox folders (sent items, inbox, contacts, address book, etc, etc.) to a "backup" folder on the desktop. This folder was automatically created by MS upon export, and apparently everything I exported went into this folder. I can't check the contents of the folder to verify all is well, because it's too big to open with wordpad.

Am I ok? Is this the best safeguard before uninstall/reinstall? it would be fairly disastrous to lose my contacts, inbox contents, etc.

Answer:Getting ready to uninstall/reinstall office xp suite

Find and copy your .pst file (probably Outlook.pst, but may be another filename.pst) to another location. It should also hold all the data.

Also find and copy any .wab file (Windows Address Book)

However, if it would be so disastrous to lose them, surely you have backups? Hard Drives are very temporary devices, and certainly not considered permanent storage.

I have lost 4 in 4 years (over several PC's admittedly) and having appropriate backups has paid dividends. Just never assume the HDD will not fail.

I dont think its a vista problem but an office problem. are you sure you are using the right letters and numbers. 0, and "O", l, and "I" can be confusing. if you are sure then it might be because of the upgrade.

One thing that might work is if you re-installed the OS, and then office. It might clear whatever incorreect info there might be in registry

This came already preloaded on my Netbook; it's actually Microsoft Office "STARTER" 2010 (and I don't need more for this Netbook), but I need a product key, which I have to buy. I didn't know this and was going to install my current, 3pc limit Microsoft Office 2007 on the Netbook. I don't want to install this in my netbook as that would be two programs, right? And to just make things easier, would it be best to just buy a product key for 2010 for my Netbook?

I'm not sure what "starter" is, although if I click on Purchase it takes me to a one-user Home and Student 2010 edition.

My current desktop computer has Microsoft Office 2007 home and Student edition. Can this be upgraded by the same product key code if I were to buy the whole product (with disc) for it's key code for my Netbook? I know if I just buy the product key code it's only good for one computer and it seems like that would be a waste of money. It's $109!

So can I or should I upgrade my desktop computer to match the Netbook's version of Microsoft Office and use the same key code for both? I'm not sure that can be done. Or perhaps I should leave well enough alone and simply buy the product key code for my Netbook which is preloaded with Microsoft Office Starter 2010 Suite.

Any advice? I don't need "issues".

Answer:Microsoft Office Suite - Another Free Alternative

Good UI, but too much quirks.

First: It's only available in English and Chinese, and changes regional settings while launching (that creates problems for other apps).

Compatibility with Microsoft Office is better than that of LibreOffice / OpenOffice, but still far away from being considered good: I couldn't open several docx files, had problems opening password-protected, or larger documents, many that could be opened had screwed up formatting.

As Word (doc, docx), Excel (xls, xlsx), and PowerPoint (ppt, pptx) represent the global standard office formats, a good alternative should be able to interoperate properly. Kingsoft isn't, LibreOffice is even less, OpenOffice isn't at all.

I see only one alternative office suite which is seamlessly compatible, and that's SoftMaker Office by German developer SoftMaker. This has fantastic import and export filters compared to all others, is very feature-packed, and makes Microsoft Office dispensable. They also offer a lite version of a full-fledged office suite for free, try it out:

It has the same brilliant import and export filters like SoftMaker Office; in contrast to Kingsoft Office, you can change UI language, and can download dictionaries in nearly all languages of this planet, it doesn't change regional settings when launching, it's usable portably from flash drive. Try it out.

I used the trial for Office Standard for the last three months, and now have to convert. If I just "convert" thru MS, does it automatically save my settings? what if I buy it - i.e. if I have found a place with much better prices, and I get the discs from them - do I just enter the product key, and will it save/use my settings, like for outlook? I must have outlook, so the student version is not an option. Lastly, can I trust a place that does have such cheap prices - it says academic pricing, but I'm not one.

Any help fast is appreciated, as I can't use my programs!!
