Installed Windows Essentials 2012 but can't find Movie Maker

Question: Installed Windows Essentials 2012 but can't find Movie Maker

Have attempted to get Photo Gallery and Movie Maker on my Win 7 Pro computer. Installed Windows Essentials 2012 which is supposed to include these two programs. The only program that installs and shows up on the computer is Microsoft One Drive. Did a search of the computer but did not find either program. A number of websites discuss this problem and offer solutions. I've tried all of the solutions. None have worked for me. My computer specs are more than what is required for these two programs, so that isn't the problem. I'm beginning to wonder if these programs have been eliminated by Microsoft.

Any ideas would be welcomed.

Preferred Solution: Installed Windows Essentials 2012 but can't find Movie Maker

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

I just downloaded and installed Windows Live Essentials 2012. When I go to launch Movie Maker I get the following error.

I did make sure my computer meets the requirements for Movie maker and my DirectX is version 11 with my DDI Version being 10.

I tried uninstalling Movie maker and reinstalling it but no fix.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi everyone.

I've been happily using Windows Movie Maker in Windows 7 with .mpg files. I'm halfway through a project and was recently advised to move to Windows 8/8.1 so I backed everything up, saved my project and video files and took the plunge with Windows 8.

Having installed Movie Maker I loaded in my project. I had to repoint to my video files but that was fine. However, although I can hear the sound, I now can't see any video! On checking with Microsoft I should be able to use .mpg files so can anyone advise me as to what I'm doing wrong? I've tried re-naming to .mov and .mpeg, all to no avail, yet they all play fine in Media Player.

I really don't want to have to re-install Windows 7 but if I have to then so be it.

Many thanks.

Answer:Windows 8.1 and Movie Maker 2012

It probably has to do with the missing codecs that is removed in Windows 8.1 unless you buy the media center pack for $10 USD.

Hi I am trying to join video clips together with Windows Movie Maker 2012 in Windows 7 64bit.

The 12 files are MP4 and I can play, trim, join or do anything within WMM. I can also save the file as a project then go back to it and play it through continuously as one video.

When I save the file as a movie using the recommended settings it takes hour to save then I get the following message.

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

The player obviously support the file type as I can play the videos either individually or consecutively within WMM as a project and the codec used to compress must in WMM as I saved the project as a move from there.

Why can WMM not play the movie that it created? Any advice would be appreciated.

Axel

Hi...
I'm relatively new to Win 7 Home Premium (64-bit) and have just discovered it doesn't include Windows Movie Maker which was on XP.
However, I noticed online Windows Movie Maker 2.6 is supposed to work with the above.
It downloaded fine but when I went into 'All Programs' and clicked on Windows Movie Maker, nothing happened.
I noticed also the icon next to it was a blank one and not a 'Windows' one.
Checking Add/Remove (I actually use Revo) the program was definitely installed.
Nevertheless, I uninstalled then reinstalled. No joy. I then uninstalled it completely.
I then noticed Windows Live Essentials contains Movie Maker.
I selected only the 'Photo Gallery & Movie Maker' from the list and downloaded.
However, the same thing happened as with Windows Movie Maker 2.6. Also, same blank icon.
I must be missing something simple here.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks

Answer:Windows Live Essentials - Movie Maker problem

Please make sure you have uninstalled earlier ver of WIndows Live Essentiuals fully. Also make sure your Windows is uptodate with all latest updates.
Now pl go here Windows Live Essentials: Movie Maker and install the MovieMaker and also the WL Photo Gallery , Both gets installed together. And check if it works.
Else you can download the offline Installer (Which contains all Live Essentials) but while installing you can select only the MovieMaker and Photo Gallery. http://g.live.com/1rewlive4-all/en/wlsetup-all.exe

Answer:Windows Live Essentials - Movie Maker problem

Could be a general problem with the icon cache database. Try this.....
Close all folder windows that are currently open.
Launch Task Manager using the CTRL+SHIFT+ESC key sequence, or by running taskmgr.exe.
In the Process tab, right-click on the Explorer.exe process and select End Process.
Click the End process button when asked for confirmation.
From the File menu of Task Manager, select New Task (Run?)
Type CMD.EXE, and click OK
In the Command Prompt window, type the commands one by one and press ENTER after each command: Make sure you leave the spaces.
CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local
DEL IconCache.db /a
EXIT
In Task Manager, click File, select New Task (Run?)
Type EXPLORER.EXE, and click OK.

Hello all,

I tried searching all over the internet for a solution to this problem without luck. I was happily using Windows Movie Maker 2012 on Windows 8 for several days, when all of a sudden the sound stopped working. Whenever I try to play a clip from a video camera, a former project, or a finished movie file on my computer, the video plays but with absolutely no sound. I have tried putting in mp3 songs, and those do not play with sound either. I can see and single out the audio tracks to clips, but I cannot hear anything. Sound on the computer is working fine, and the clips play in Windows Media Player and other media players. I have tried uninstalling Windows Movie Maker and reinstalling it. It worked initially, but I waited a few days and tried again only to have the same problem occur. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(P.S., I did try Windows Movie Maker 6, but it does not accept certain movie file formats that my video camera uses, so I went back to WMM 2012.)

Answer:Windows Movie Maker 2012 on Win 8 - No Sound

As an alternative to your issue, try using VLC player, it's free and at least you'll be able to watch/listen to your videos.

VideoLAN - Official page for VLC media player, the Open Source video framework!

For you problem, I'm wondering if something has been left over from the uninstall, which could be causing your problem. Try using Revo Uninstaller and uninstall it with that then download and install movie maker and see what happens.

I recently did a clean install of Windows 7. All updates except for Silverlight, and 5 optional updates. Today when browsing the internet and watching some flash video, I got one of those pages that cant close. I did a scan on the temporary internet files and Microsoft Security Essentials found a virus and deleated the file. I also sent info to Microsoft. Everything seemed okay except suddenly All video, weather in a wab page or on windows media player whould stop about a third of the way through, and again every so often untill I pressed play again. And in a web page It would stop buffering the file as if it were done and I whould have to click ahead of the stopping point to get it to go. So I noticed that SQL server 2005( i thing it said lite edition), was installed. I did not install this. SO I uninstalld Flash, and Microsoft Essentials Movie maker, and SQL server dissapeerd on its own. Why does Essentils need SQL server to be installed and why dont they tell you that. It scarred the heck out of me. Anyways I havent had to do a system restore yet and everthing seems back to normal. Is there a way to install Movie maker without all this server connection stuff. Is there a free program anyone can recomend. One that will not cause problems or install other crap I dont want...

Answer:Had a issue after installing flash and Windows Essentials Movie maker

Did you install all of Essentials, or just Movie Maker? Photo Gallery is what requires SQL 2005, but it says not on Windows 7

   Note
For Photo Gallery: SQL 2005 Compact Edition and Windows Imaging Codecs.*

*Not required when installing on Windows 7 or Windows Vista.
Windows Live Essentials system requirements - Windows Help

However, I found this:

Quote:
When you have downloaded the package install the features that you want to use on a test computer. When the installation has finished you will see that some of the programs have dependencies to each other. To get Movie Maker to work you have to have Photo Gallery installed. And to get Photo Gallery to work you need Microsoft SQL 2005 Compact edition. So don’t scratch your head to much when you see that Photo Gallery is installed even though you just selected Movie Maker

A few days ago I was installed Windows Live Movie Maker 2012 on my notebook. Being having enough powerful hardware to meet its requirements for running. It don't start. I don't know what is the problem with that program. I have installed it along with Photo Gallery. Photo Gallery works quite well. But Movie Maker is not starting. It shows the error as shown in the image 1. I even try to update the driver of graphics card but it is already latest version. Can anyone know what preventing the Movie Maker from starting. Any help will be worth.

Photo Gallery is working without any problem or trouble. You can see it in the image 2

Answer:Windows Live Movie Maker 2012 Not Starting

Have you tried to reinstall the program? Possibly uninstalling then reinstalling? I know this is part of Microsoft Essentials now.

The error also states that this may have to do with bad drivers. Have you checked those as well?
If all else fails try running the program in Compatibility Mode.

Hope I'm on the correct forum for my question. If not, my apologies.

I currently have Windows 7 which came with Windows Live Movie Maker 2011. The default format is WMV.

I read that the default format for Windows Live Movie Maker 2012, is MP4, which I would prefer.

I don't see any way to "upgrade" directly from 2011 to 2012, but I did find the MS download site for WLMM 2012 at Get Movie Maker - Microsoft Windows

My question is this: Can I just download and install 2012 over 2011, or must I uninstall 2011 first?

Thanks very much...

Answer:Want to upgrade Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 to 2012

You can just install over. Your download will actually offer to install all of Windows Live Essentials, but you can choose to install only Windows Live Movie Maker (and Windows Photo Gallery which must also be installed with it).

Be aware that if you use Live Mesh, it will be removed and replaced with Skydrive

Quote:
There is one change though that some users are discovering by unhappy surprise. Microsoft is replacing Live Mesh with SkyDrive, its cloud storage service, on the PCs of those who install Windows Essentials 2012. (Microsoft acknowledges this when users click on a link in the original post that says it leads to more information on what's new in Movie Maker and Photo Gallery.)

Quote:
Here are Microsoft's warnings on what Live Mesh users should expect if they download Windows Essentials 2012:

"If you have Windows Live Mesh installed, it will automatically be removed if you install the new Movie Maker or Photo Gallery (available as part of Windows Essentials 2012).

"Microsoft SkyDrive will be installed in place of Windows Live Mesh. To sync folders from the cloud to all of your PCs, you will need to install SkyDrive on all of your PCs or Macs."

Source

However, Live Mesh was supposed to end on 2/13/2013, so it may be a moot point

I had been using WLM 2011 and I thought it was the latest, I swear.

Anyway, I installed the 2012 version.
Just one problem.....
Before that, I was unhappy with Windows Live Movie Maker, so I installed Movie Maker 6.0

Now after installing WLE 2012, I don't see the Movie Maker 2012 version, only my 6.0 version is present.

What to do ?
Uninstall 6.0 ? Then what to do to get the 2012 version ?

Thank you.

I've always used windows movie maker to make videos using clips that I take from a point and shoot camera. The files are .AVI and .MTS. I've never had problems before. Then I installed the latest window update which "upgraded" to a "better" version of movie maker.

Since the update, I get little yellow error signs in my video clips (different clips every time - not like just one is defective) and it says I must remove the defective videos before I can save the movie to a DVD. When I click on help, it says there is a problem with the codecs. On a seperate similar note - I am not able to open photos that were shot in RAW and the computer won't let me download the codec for RAW! All this codec crap happened after the windows update!

PLEASE HELP! I want my videos and pictures of my baby!! What codecs are needed? How do I get them? AARRGG!

I've got an HP Probook 6450b, running Windows 7 Professional. The laptop was purchased used, and runs the 64-bit version of Windows 7, on the Intel Core i5 CPU, at 2.4Ghz, and with 3.8MB RAM, and the Intel HD Graphics card. The laptop has run without any problems in the roughly six months I've owned it.

Recently, I realized that I needed the Microsoft Movie Maker, of which I had an earlier version, as part of an older Microsoft Office suite of applications. The Movie Maker 2011/2012 is available for free for Windows 7 users, under the Microsoft Live Essentials download - which includes the Microsoft Picture Album, Outlook, and a couple of other applications - in addition to Movie Maker. I successfully located the official download locations for both Movie Maker 2012 and even Movie Maker 2011.

After numerous installations (of both MM2012 and MM2011), when invoking the Movie Maker application - I get the same error dialog box, that in essence says that Movie Maker cannot start on my computer, because it lacks the required resources (or words to that effect . . .).

So, I have researched nearly every relevant online reference/solution citation imaginable, to include Microsoft, HP (laptop and graphics card). I've checked the various configurations, including the memory, graphics card, DirectX support, and almost anything else you can think of, but without any luck (although the Windows Live Photo Gallery does install successfully). I have a valid .wmv file that I need to put into a movie maker project. It plays fine in media player.

When I attempt to import it into a project, I receive a message, saying that
<blockquote>The file C:\Documents and Settings\...\My Videos\russian.wmv is not indexed and cannot be imported.</blockquote>

I have verified that the indexing service is turned on, and even left my computer idle for extended periods, because my settings for the indexing service say that indexing occurs during idle periods.

I have the file set to allow itself to be indexed.

I am not sure whatelse to do. The only other strange behavior which I cannot explain is that fact that when I view my videos folder in thumbnail view, only this .wmv does not get a thumbnail. I am not sure exactly what to do. Any help is appreciated!

I use a flip ultra to make videos to publish to YouTube, so I first download my flip videos to realplayer once I plug in my flip. Then, I send my specific videos I want to my realplayer library. After, I convert it to wmv generic in winFF converter. Finally, I take the wmv videos from my folder I sent it to into my windows movie maker, When I'm done making the video, I "save movie file" to be able to publish to YouTube. However, it says it cannot save to the specific location. Idk what I did wrong at all! All help would be so helpful! Thanks!
(p.s it is not too large of a video)

I'm working on a joke movie as a birthday present for a friend. Unfortunately, I seem to have a problem. I'm composing a movie using something like 30-35 AVI clips, 2 BMPs, and 3 music clips (2 MP3, 1 OGG). Anyway, I've get everything all set up, the clips are strung together, I've got credits, titles, the whole shebang, but when I try to save it to my PC, it gets everywhere from 39% to 54% before seeming to stop and the time just keeps increasing. The finished movie will be something like 94 MB, and it's over 11 minutes long. Does anyone know of a way to get around this seemingly endless wait time for my movie to finish saving?

Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the source files used in your movie are still available, that saving location is still available and that there is enough free disk space available, and then try again.

This error is driving me nuts.

Not matter what drive I select, no matter what files I use as a source, I STILL GET THIS ERROR.

I have 2 hard drives, one with 35 gigs free space, the other with 90 gigs of free space. I have 2 gigs of RAM. AMD 64 3700+ processor.

It doesn't matter if I load a picture from C:\, an mp3 from E:\ or anything else. I will always get this error message, and all I'm trying to create is a 5 mb video file. Anyone know what the hell is going on here?

Using WinXP Sp2.

Whenever I try to export my .mswmm file in Movie Maker to a .wmv video file through File>Save Video File, it can't continue, and displays:

Quote:

WMM cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available, then try again.

I don't know why it won't export though. I manually checked all my source files to make sure they weren't missing or broken, and the two drives I tried to save the movie to had far more than enough space. I don't know what is the problem.

The only thing that might cause the error may be that I use some AVI and MPEG-1 movie files in there with codecs (from the K-Lite pack) that trigger ffdshow encoder icons in the taskbar.

Anyone know what's the problem?

I am extremely frustrated with movie maker! I have created nearly a 20 minute film of my holiday a couple weeks ago and it wont save after hours and hours of editing.

I have made several long videos using movie maker in the past and have had no trouble!

It gets to about 20% saved and then stops and tells me that my files are missing and I must remove the unusable items and try again! But none of the files are corrupt or unusable and all work fine, they aren't missing either as I have not moved them from the folder they have been in since I started the project!

If anybody has any advise or knows how to fix the problem I am having I would be highly grateful as I have many people depending on me to have this video done! Thanks!

I am trying to save my Windows Movie Maker project to a Movie File and it has been saving my movie file since last night with over 1 MILLION minutes remaining at 0% completed. Does this ever actually get to a point where it will start to save it or should I cancel out and then select a different type of file to save other then the recommended "best for computer playback" option. Please help!!!!

Answer:Problem Saving Movie in Windows Movie Maker

I don't know what's wrong with it. All I know is,, it's NOT normal that the remianing time is 1 million minutes over night. No! I'd def. cancel it once. Then, I'd save the project, restart the comp, open the saved project, and give just one more try with the same output setting, but I'd only wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute at longest to see if the remainig time starts going down. If that doesn't work, i'd cancel, and change the output setting. maybe you don't have a codec necessary to encode whatever output format you chose. If you change the output, then, it may work..

It says

"verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available".

Yes, I have it saved as a project first
No, i didn't change any of the source file names
Yes, I have enough disk space, (I have 16 Gigs free and it's a 23 meg file.)
Yes, I've tried saving in smaller size
I'm On Windows Xp,
I'm on windows movie maker 2.0 XP

So what's the problem and how can I save it or convert it to a normal mpeg either making windows movie maker work, or using some free coverter
because I cannot make my windows movie maker save
exactly what happens is it will get to the save screen
ill do the name quality etc.
it will get to the saving part
the bar will not move
and a second later the message Pops up.

(Note: I don't mean saving the project file)

Okay, so. My friend's the one who's actually having this trouble, and I thought I'd help her out. So, I have all the files--including the project file she used--on my machine. I got the exact same message that she did--the message in question:
When she told me this problem, I'd assumed it was her PC. Yet, I've gotten the exact same error on my machine. Now, number one: I have all the source files. Number two: I have well over 300 GB of space, and 4 gigs of RAM. Yet, the video will not save, regardless of what I try. I've loaded in every missing file associated with it, and I've run the entire video through the preview--perfectly.

Now... I have two things that I'd like to ask: number one, is there a way to either force WMM to save it to a video file? And two: is there another video-editing program that will allow me to use a WMM project file, or that will allow me to convert a .mswmm [WMM] project file to a project file for their system?

(I know, I probably shouldn't have volunteered to help, but I couldn't help it. So, if anyone can help me out here, ANY assistance would be greatly appreciated.)

OS is Vista Home Premium. I'm using Windows Movie Maker to edit home videos (add music, shorten videos) in attempt to make DVD. When I try to use Windows DVD Maker to create a DVD it stalls during "encoding". I've tried to make a DVD using the same videos with just Windows DVD Maker - it worked. I then tried to use the same videos in Movie Maker (un-edited) and then make DVD with Windows DVD Maker - it worked. It seems to be some type of encoding issue. How can I solve this issue?

Answer:Windows Movie Maker to DVD Maker mess

If it is working with unedited files it may be a problem with the audio(music) files and their encoding. Try with some other music files from a different source and see if that allows you to burn.
You could try downloading and installing GSpot 2.70a an analysis tool, usually used for video analysis, but will analyse audio as well. Once installed open it and open your music file in it. On the LHS panel it will tell you which audio codec is needed to encode/decode your file and if you have the correct codec on your computer.
The K-Lite codec pack (link in my signature) has a number of audio and video codecs bundled and may be worth installing.

Hello,

I have recently stumbled across a problem with regards to Windows Live Movie maker. This is on windows 7.

The problem is, that every time I try to save a movie, it almost completes the saving process - then indefinitely hangs at 99% complete and will not finish the movie, no matter what. Usually, it results in force closing, and losing all of my progress.

Any help would be appreciated.

edit: don't worry, it's just done it.

Good morning,

i'm editing a custom video of images synced with music track however, when i try to click anywhere within the middle of the full video editing, it automatically desyncs the music by 2 seconds further than where the images should be lined up with.

example.
Playing from start, it has the first 6 box frames lined up perfectly with the song hitting a key point of 16.80 seconds.

but when ever i try to make an edit in the middle of it, for some odd reason the music plays at 18.60.

it is very bothersome to try and edit this entire piece without having to relisten the whole entire track over and over.

can someone help me find out why this is breaking up the sync? i need to get this project done for presentation and i cannot waste more time by rewatching it from beginning repeatedly just to make a few edits.

thank you.

I know, I know, it's an old problem (judging by the number of hits you get when you google this), but my experience tells me that people on here are much more reliable and INTERESTED than your average MicroSoft 'helper'.

I'm operating XP Pro because I like it! I will not be persuaded to move onto Windows 8 (or above) because my wife has Windows 8 and I find it extremely frustrating to work with it.

I'm busy at the moment archiving my musical life of 50 odd years and I have a load of videos that I want to strip down into single song clips. I've been using VideoPad to date, but it takes an AGE to save a single song clip (typically 25 to 30 minutes for a 4-minute clip), so I thought I'd try WMM.

It all seemed to be too easy at first. The Start and Finish clip controls are easier to manipulate and since I'm using WMV files, it seemed logical to try out WMM. Everything went well until it came to saving a 'movie'. The process starts fine, but then just quits and I'm told that 'WMM is unable to save the file'. No explanation, no help.

So I went googling and found that, if I installed Service Pack 3 for XP, I'd get the latest WMM (with the inference that this would solve my problem). Well, what do you know? It didn't. I've since tried different settings for the process, but still no joy.

Any help (including suggestions of better - and free! - video editors) will be extremely welcome.

I have a Windows XP from HP here, and I've downloaded the latest version of Windows Movie Maker, and make a movie with it from clips and pictures and such, now comes the time to finalize the movie, but I can can't for some reason, the computer won't let me! Under "Finish Movie" I click "Save to my computer" and then I choose a directory and a name for the file, I click next, choose a quality (I've tried just about all of them none of them work) and then I click next again, the "Saving movie, your movie is being saved" screen comes up for about a second then is changed to : "Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still avalible, that the saving location is still avilable, and that there is enough free space available, and then try again"

Ok, well I've tried to save it to my desktop, My Movies, a folder anywhere as well as an external drive and none of those work, and all the source files are availble, if one isn't a different message comes up, so I don't think that's the problem and I have 90GB left on this hard drive! What is wrong?!?!?!

I created a short small movie (just under 11MB) in WMM. I imported a youtube clip that I converted from FLV to WMV. I also added a soundtrack (MP3). The only other aspects of the design were some subtitles. No real special effects to speak of.

When I try to save the movie it stops at 75%. It tells me that I have one of three problems:
-not enough memory in destination file (I know I am ok here)
-make sure original source files are available (WHAT IS THIS?)
-saving location is available (it is).

I am trying to save it for use on my computer. I actually want to use it for a meeting I am doing and project it on a screen.

What am I doing wrong?

Answer:Saving a movie in Windows Movie Maker

Your second point - "Make sure original source files are available" - You should be okay in this part too since you're able to start saving, which means the files you are using are located in your computer.

That means you're 3 for 3 and you should not be experiencing any problems at all, which means the problem lies elsewhere.

Need more to go on.

Try using a WMA file instead of MP3 and see if that works for you.

I got bored and cancelled the process and now the windows all user install service agent wont work, I cant log onto and internet connection won't come to my apps I have install.

Do I have to refresh my computer or anything else?

Thanks

Answer:Help with WIndows Essentials 2012

A refresh would be your easiest option. Remember that a refresh will remove any installed apps that were not pre-installed on the system and your data files will land in C:\Windows.old. Since that's the case, I like to suggest that afterwards, you install the apps you life, then create a new image using the "recimg" command line tool. That way your "refresh" will refresh with your apps installed and data intact.

I migrated an office from 2003 to 2012 Essentials.

I admin'd the box fine setting it up at home with RDS and installed REALVNC on it. Everything was groovy.

Took it to the office and migrated all the workstations to this new domain controller, migrated profiles, etc, moved files, remapped shares, did scripts, etc. Everything went very smooth.

I get home and cannot get to the box thru the VPN as I always did with the 2003 server. Can't ping it, get to it with RDS, VNC, nothing. Can't get to any of the workstations either. I'm thinkin' ohhh crap, I'm in trouble Monday morning, this office is down hard and dead!

Nope, nothing, no calls. I send an email to ask the Doctor if they turned everything off and he said no, everything is working fine.

I am not interested particularly in the web admin access, that I most likely disabled because I can't reach it either. But it looks interesting and I might re-enable it.

But mainly, how do I get RDS and VNC access back? This is a remote site and I'd like to know before I drive 100 miles round trip.

Windows firewall?
Possibly it (properly) detected the new network when taken to the office, but set itself to Public network instead of Work or Home?

We had that happen once here, except it was when someone did RDP in. The Network Detection dialog popped up, but he ignored the box; Windows presumably then selected Public network and blocked pretty much all inbound connectivity.
Though that did block literally all inbound connections.

Is Microsoft finally going to release new versions of its Windows Essentials software tools? I know Skype replaced the Windows live Messenger but it would be fantastic to get a new version of Windows Live Writer for my blogs. I would also love new updated versions of Windows Live Mail and Photo Gallery. Anyone know anything about these products. it has been two years since an upgrade and I want to install this bundle on my new laptop today so can someone provide me a link to a page where the latest version is so I can download this software package. I want the latest and I think the one i have on my Win 7 desktop is old, from 2011 perhaps. Kindly assist.

Is that how you installed it or did you install the entire package ?

I reset my computer because Windows Live Mail was not connecting to the internet and was getting an error message saying that I have used the wrong password. Now, I still can't use WL Mail and Windows Essentials is still "installing" for the last several days. Consequently, I can't uninstall WL Mail or Windows Essentials or fix them. In addition, I think, because WLE is not installed officially, I can't see my saved videos and still get the same error message when I try to connect to WL Mail...error 0x80280006. I tried to reset my WL Mail password to no avail.
BTW, I'm using Windows 10 and maybe it is partly to blame?
I want to be able to use WL Mail and see my videos, but I don't know how. Please help. Thanks.

Answer:Cannot install and uninstall Windows Essentials 2012.

While searching for info on my problem, I ran a scan of my system with a 'repair tool'...it found many errors and would fix them for a fee, but one of the things it did mention was that I have an Artemis virus. Could this be the cause of my problems>

I'm trying to help a friend to get their Windows Server 2012 Essentials setup up in their small business.

Server is operational, but I'm having issues connecting PCs to it...

I'm able to get to the server page by going to http://(servername)\connect
I can download the connector software, when I run it it finds the server it ask for user name and password.

After entering info it tries to connect for 20-60 seconds and fails with:

Cannot coonect this computer to the network
The Server is not available. Try connecting this computer again, or for more information, see troubleshooting connecting computers to the server.

any idea what could be causing?

could this be caused by network issues? They are using ATT DSL for internet access, with a ATT model, that is referred to as "gateway.pace.com"

They also have a zyxel smart switch, it seems that both ATT DSL and Zyxel switch are acting as DHCP, and both might be issuing IP addresses.

Another thing I noticed that they are using IP phones for all office phones.
All PCs are connected to the network with an IP phone as a device in the middle, that seems be slowing down the phones from normal gigabit to 10/100 only.

Any help would be grateful.

Got tired of the start screen email app real quick, went out and downloaded windows essential pack which includes mail.

Program is a work of art, added all my accounts with just a couple of clicks, personal imap accounts, microsoft accounts and even my yahoo pop account (needs to be yahoo mail plus account, which i have for like $20 a year).

Each account has its own set of folders and each account can be given a color, the ribbon menus on top are great and offer multiple options for your emails.

Reader can be completely customized with many different views, custom column headers, etc.

Can all this be synced to other accounts, and devices who knows, I really am not into that so for me this is the perfect email app

Alright, I have been running into a lot of problems lately with installing Windows Essentials 2012. I have gotten 2 different error codes which I have looked into forums about at and done everything they said to do. I have successfully installed it but then when I attempted to launch Movie Maker (which is all I need) it told me that I was missing something (shouldn't the installation put EVERYTHING you need for the program to run on your computer?!). So I got that file and put it in the appropriate folder and then again attempted to launch Windows Live Movie Maker and I got another message saying I was missing a DIFFERENT file. I have run 2 different virus scans and cleans on my computer (because some forum told me to run a scan). Now what is happening is that I am running the installer and with in matter of seconds it says that Windows Essentials has successfully installed. However, when I go and try and use one of the WLE programs IT... IS... NOT... ON... MY.... COMPUTER! I am starting to get pissed off. I have spent hours on end attempting to fix this problem and no forum has helped me.

Hopefully now I can get some real help on what to do.

Here's the latest in a long series of unsolvable problems where Windows Essentials 2012 can not be installed.

The repeated error message - error 0x80040609 - source WLX suite

Installation stops when installing Messenger. There are no previous Messenger installations on the computer.

The computer is running 64 bit Windows 7 . Windows was freshly installed on the computer a few months ago with no problem.

To save the time of asking me to take steps that will not work:

Windows firewall is turned on.

I've downloaded and tried running the offline standalone installer.

I'm running current DirectX.

All Windows Live directories and files have been removed. Uninstall advice does not work because the programs were never installed in the first place

I've downloaded the installation fail fixit and run it.

I've run Windows update.

I've found and zipped the installation log file but so far there's no place to send it.

There are no viruses or malware

Windows Media Player already is installed.

I've run msiexec /unreg
msiexec /regserver

The Windows Installer service is running.

Answer:Cannot install Windows Live Essentials 2012

While waiting for anyone to respond to the original message, here are two other alleged solutions that did not work.

Ran MSCONFIG and set it for only start up services. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

Ran CCleaner twice. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

I started Revo Uninstaller. Windows Essentials 2012 does not exist in the add/remove programs list.
I checked Control Panel. Windows Essentials 2012 does not exist in the add/remove programs list.

I've used Regedit to remove all reference to Windows Live. Then ran the Windows Live full offline installer and got the identical error failure.

Still no solutions and no responses.

I want to choose an OS for a media server, has to be Windows. I have valid keys. The server hw is pretty old, its an old SuperMicro with AMD Opteron, 6GB DDR2 etc.

Which of these is going to have the lowest resource usage? I don't need to use any pc backup features, just run it as a server with the usual tasks like Plex/Emby, downloading etc.

Hi Stargate38

I trust this site. That said please scan with your AV. Hopefully Live Mail is included.

While Live Mail still works for a lot of people it could stop at any time depending on your mail supplier.

Alright.
So I made a montage with Windows Movie Maker, however it simply won't save the movie file, although it will save the project. I've never encountered with problem with my other montages.
Seeing some other questions on these forums I checked my amount of ram, and ended some processes to increase it, currently I'm at 572M/5210 M (Commit Charge), Fluctuating between 6-15% computer usage, and 2.79 GHz, 3.25 GB of Ram. This is with google chrome, task manager, and WMM open.
To check if it wasn't the montage itself I made 2 others, one of the same length, and one about 8 seconds long, both of them caused an error that caused WMM to close immediatly, although it appeared the 8 second long one was going to save. The error message says something went wrong, but the message after it doesn't save is the usual, check if the files are still there ( they are ) and check if you have enough memory (I do).

I've made a movie clip using "Windows Movie Maker", but when I play the clip it goes too fast. How can I slow the motion down? What's the ideal picture duration and transition duration?

Answer:"Windows Movie Maker" movie plays too fast

Hi and welcome to PCReview....Have you got video acceleration turned on for any other programs such as DivX or speedbit etc. If so turn it off and then try.
Also in movie maker go to tools/ options/ advanced and play with transition and timelime settings.
It could well be a filter or codec issue. You will find more infoand settings in moviemaker/tools/compatability.
In here you will find settings to try and also click on what are video filters and read the info there.
This may help. Good luck and let us know you get on. Some other members might be more experienced and may help you moe than i can.

Also, I earlier posted a link to a reported work-around for the connector software forcing workstations on the Domain.

Look that over as well if you intend on proceeding with this.

I have not tested this work-around yet, but probably will tonight.

I am a first time windows server essentials user and i recently added my computer into the server but there is a conflict due to some kind of registry error and i can't delete the registry file from my computer since there is no user found on the permission for drop box. How do i gain permission to delete the registry

Answer:Registry Problem in Windows Server 2012 essentials

what do you mean by "added my computer into the server" as it's not clear what you did.
and clarify "there is no user found on the permission for drop box"
it should list local accounts and possibly the SID of a deleted domain user (if you mean you added your computer to the domain that Server 2012 Essentials creates)

I had Windows Live Mail 2011 and had no problems. Then I upgraded to Windows live mail 2012 and that is when the problems started.
All email comes in fine
All email sends fine as long as you only send out one contact.
The problem lies in trying to send out a group contact.
It does not go. when trying to send you get this error msg : imgur: the simple image sharer
I did not realize this problem until i tried to send out a group contact
In fact I put the program on 3 different machines that were upgrades- same problem
Worse, I put this on 8 client computers who had windows live mail essentials 2011 prior and same problem.
I went to the Micrososft Forum and told them the problem. They have been working with me to come up with a fix. i sent them logs that they asked for. So far I only see on the forum "they are working on it"
This is the forum that i posted to Windows Live Mail Essentials 2012 will not allow group contacts - Microsoft Community

I suggest prior to putting the new version on you backup Windows live mail first
Also this does NOT happend if you are putting the program on for the first time and not doing an upgrade
It does not matter if you sign into Live Mail with a live account or you use your own isp, I have tried both and I still cannot send a group contact.

Once uninstalling 2012 and going back to 2011 (you can still get 2011) the group contacts went just fine

I'm hoping someone can provide me a solution to a big problem. I was working on WMM and had my movie all intact and ready to go. However, I was never able to save it as a movie file because it would give me an error message and would take forever. We got more memory, which helped it move faster, but when they added the memory, they also put Windows 7 on it and now my 47 minute DVD for my mom's birthday party won't work. It gives me red X's in some places where there were pictures (not a problem, I'll look those up and put them back in)....same for the music, which I added again as well.

The real problem is that the video won't show on the right side of the screen nor will any of the transitions show....only the music will play.

Did adding Windows 7 cause this? And if so, what can I do? It took me a really long time to get this done and the way I want it, so I'm hoping that I didn't totally mess it up!!!

Answer:Windows & Movie Maker

it does that to me sometimes... thats why i always save my work twice every few minutes, im not sure of any way to get it back, i had to keep doing mine all over again

Hi,
I'm making a slideshow of pictures in windows movie maker and i wish to add music to it. But when i import the song file into movie maker, the duration of the song is nearly doubled. When i drag the song file to adjust the length of the song in the timeline, it makes the song repeat bits. Why does this happen? If you could get back to be ASAP it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Jenny

Answer:Windows Movie Maker

Just out of Curiosity, what type of file is the song you are importing(mp3, mav, etc)? Have you tried with another song to see if it's the program, or just that song?

okay, I just started doing some movie editing with Windows Movie Maker. My first two movies came out just fine, but now it won't let me save my final projects anymore! I don't know what to do, all my video files are still available, I have more than enough space on my hard drive, and the saving destination is still currently avaible also. What else can be done???

Not entirely sure if this forum is where this would go, but it seemed the closest, so maybe someone here will know something.

I just got a digital camcorder (Sony Handycam) and I have already successfully captured video using Windows Movie Maker. However, suddenly now, when I try to capture video, it refuses. The "Time recorded" still says 0:00, and the "space used" gets to 3 kb, but then stops. The camera continues to play, but just won't actually go onto the computer. I'm using Windows XP, and have the camcorder connected to the computer using a firewire port.

If anyone has experienced this problem or has any ideas, I'd appreciate the help. Thank you.

Also, if you know of a more appropriate place on TSG to post this question, let me know.

Not sure why that's happening, but possibly WMM got corrupted. I'd try to reinstall WMM and see if that fixes it.
