I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello. I work online at a university and students are upgrading gradually to Vista. I get .docx documents that I have to grade but my MS Office Word 2003 just turns it into jibberish when it tries to convert it. Can I do anything on my end to make these files readable, or do the students need to do something on their end before sending? I think I recall that the student can choose to "save as" and then choose the .doc ending, but I'd rather not ask them to do this. Many are even more technologically challenged than I am! So, if you can tell me how I can handle this on my end I would appreciate it.In peace, Dr. D.

Answer:an error message shows on pc when i try to open a word docx

How did this file originally "arrive" on your computer and apparently on the actual desktop?You appear to looking for a word file tagged .docx (judging by your message header)? And they cannot be opened by early versions of word - unless you install the import filters from MS.Regardless, as you seem to know where the file is "supposed" to be, if you search/browse your way through Windows Explorer, can you find it?

I just installed the Word Preview app from the store - it's fairly usable, but... when you open an existing docx file, it claims it is in an old file format, offers to save a copy in the newer format, or loads the file read-only. So it saves a copy as a docx file. Word 2007 can work with this file, but if you edit it and close it, opening with Word Preview gives the same file format warning.

Editing the file with Word Online does not have this effect.

Strange! Anyone else seen this? What sort of flag is it picking up in the Word 2007-edited file that makes it think it's an old format, even though it's docx? Whatever!

Answer:Word Preview docx format doesn't interoperate with Word 2007?

Word 2007 supported "Transitional" version of Microsoft Office XML document formats defined by ECMA from prior to the ISO standardization process. That process created small changes in the format that are not 100% compatible with the original ECMA release.

Hello,

I am running Word 2007 on Vista. Every time I open up Word or try or try and create a new document, clicking on 'blank document', it opens up with several print screens that I created and saved as a different document.

No matter what I try and create, the 'blank' document always has these 6 print screen images in the document. Is there a way to get rid of these in my blank document template?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I work at a small accounting firm and earlier this year we purchased some new laptops which run 64 bit Windows 7. Since then, we have started to upgrade Office on our computers. On one of the Windows 7 computers, I installed Office 2010 last week. We also use CCH's program ProSystem fx Engagement. Now, when opening Word inside of Engagement (not sure if this happens outside of Engagement because the user can't recall it happening) an error occasionally comes up which says "error creating obj document." The user hits okay, which is the only option, and then receives a second error that says "obj document is nothing." She then again selects okay and moves on. It doesn't seem to cause any issues with functionality so I'm not rushing to fix it but we want to get rid of the errors and hopefully have an idea of how to correct it in the future.

Please keep in mind I'm a CPA helping with computer issues. Since we are relatively small, we don't actually have our own IT department or person. We have to go outside. I do pretty well keeping my home computer up and running if I can research the issue and find a solution. I've looked for a while and can't find a solution in a dumbed down language that seems to fit the issue.

I seem to have a strange one here, when I go to save a word document I have modified it throws up and error about "file permission error". I have checked on the microsoft site and it suggests updating Word 2000 to SR1a, which I have now done but still get the error. At least now it doesn't delete the doc anymore.
The disc is less than half full, about 500kb, so it can't be because the disc is anywhere near full.
I have reformatted a disc and tried it but still the same error.
The operating system is Windows 98Se.
Has anyone any suggestions as to what may be causing this error?

Answer:Error message when saving word document

Are you talking about saving it to a FLOPPY?

When I send some friends a password protected word document created in Word 2010 they can't open it using word 2007 which is compatible with docx by using the correct password. I have no choice but to send as a Word doc instead of docx so they can open it.

Word 2007 User 1: Word launches no password box no error messages just the blue screen.

Word 2007 User 2: Gets the error message: ?Word cannot open this file . The encryption type used is not available. Contact the author of the file. More encryption types are available in the High Encryption Pack.?

Therefore I suspect some kind of encryption pack must be installed. I believe the user 1 has XP and user 2 has Win 2000 pro. are using XP. Do you know where these encryption packs are available? The other possibility might be for me to reduce the encription level when I create a password protected docx but I have no idea how to do that.

Is there a solution to this problem?

Kind Regards

Chris

Answer:Word 2007 Can't open encrypted docx from Word 2010

Hi Chris,

I've been looking at this for a while, but cannot find an answer.

The only thing I can come up with, is an alternate suggestion, which I am sure you have probably thought of : use something like 7ZIP to encrypt the file, and then send that to your friends.

7ZIP

Hello,

I am really confused and frustrated. Just finished spending the last 8 hours writing a research paper. It's about 7 pages, and I went to click save as, decided the name, and then said ok...and now my microsoft word window says not responding. I checked the folder where I saved the document, and it has a document by that name, but it's 0 KB big and when you double click on it it's an empty word document. Omg, I can't have just wasted 8 hours of writing. I'm afraid to force the program to quit because then I'll lose everything for sure. I used the vista snipping tool to take a snapshot of the part of the page that is showing, but I can't get it to unfreeze...has anyone had this problem, and is there a way to unfreeze it so I can at least copy out the text?

OMG I'm dying. help.

Answer:Microsoft Word (Not Responding) error right after saving, but I need the document!

Hi, try Volume shadow copy :-
Right-click the folder where the document is stored
Click the Previous Version tab
Now select the latest item under the Date modified column
Finally click on the 'Restore ...' button.

Hello, this if my first forum post, pretty much ever. I'm an aspiring author, so I use Microsoft office Word 2010 quite a bit on my laptop. I tried adding properties to my latest document such as Author, and my computer kept coming back to me with the error code 0x80004005. I know that the properties aren't exactly a big deal on a word document, but I'm trying to figure out how to fix my various computer issues whenever they come up. If anyone has ever run across this error in the way I have, please let me know. I've got a template in my Word documents that I reuse often and today when I was entering new information there were several error notices (that little gray box) "Microsoft noticed an error and must close" and even though I re- opened and I saved it - now when I open the document the font is completely different (HUGE) and it won't allow me to change it. Before I create a new document and copy and paste it correcting the size difference to the new one is their way to bring the document back to the way it was before?
Thanks!

Sorry - it seems that the error that was caused by Microsoft closing only affected the document when I accessed it through "start". When I opened My Documents - it opened the correct version. Sorry I didn't check that before posting!

I bought a new computer that runs Windows 7. I installed my copy of Office Ultimate 2007on it, then I uninstalled the trial version of Office 2010 that the computercame with. Then I transferred my files to my new computer.

Every Office program works correctly except Word 2007. While it does recognizes Word 97-2003 documents, it will not recognize Word 2007 documents (docx) and it will not create them either.

Instead, they are displayed with the wrong icon -- not the Word Document icon (blue and white with the W on it), but as a white rectangle withlines across and DOCX on the bottom. I instructed the computer to open these files with Word, and it does open them. In fact, I can edit and save them. However, they save as the unrecognized DOCX files and not as a Microsoft Office Word file.

If I run Word and instruct it to save a New Microsoft Office Word document, it also saves them as the odd DOCX files and not as Microsoft Word Documents. Thus it seems like Word will not make Word files.

When I check the file properties by right clicking, it says this for the type of file: "DOCX File(.docx)." It also says that Microsoft Word opens these documents.

If I check the properties of a Word 97-2003 document, it says it isthis type of file: "Microsoft Office Word 97 - 2003 Document (.doc)."

When I discovered the problem I re-installed Office Ultimate 2007, butit did not fix the problem.

Hi guys,

I have a Word 2010 document with grey background and border as a paragraph style.

When I add a picture over the top and align the text 'tight' it puts a white border around the image. No matter what I do I cannot get rid of this despite tinkering with transparency, fills and background colours. It varies in size depending on image styles applied like shadows but I cannot get it to disappear:

It works fine with 'in line with text' but not 'tight' or 'square'.

Any ideas????

Thanks!

This is a user-specific setting so you'd have to push down a script that runs on all the computers and edits all profiles. Seems like a lot of work for that change.

Hi,

I was working on a large document on Microsoft Word 2010 (Home and Student), saving as I went along as usual, until I tried to save it again and instead received the above error message. When I clicked "OK", a second error message appeared: "There is not enough memory or disk space to update the display". The fonts were all changed, and the pages appeared in the draft layout. I've uploaded the document onto OneDrive and opened it via Word Online, and it's opened fine - formatting is all correct and I haven't lost any work.

In Word 2010 there is a direct option to share and save any word file to SkyDrive directly simply by configuring your Windows Live ID. To Save your any doc file to SkyDrive follow the steps given below one by one and get your docment saved on your account directly from your desktop:
1. Open any Word document which you want to save to skydrive.
2.Click on File menu and then select Save to SkyDrive.
3. In the right panel th SkyDrive login page will start retrieving. As the page retrieves it will prompt you for Login credentials of yourWindows Live ID. Just give your ID and Password and login.
4. As you get login you will see your folders already present on your SkyDrive. Now you can save the document file to that folders or you can create a new folder and then click on SaveAs.
Now you can share and use your documents from anywhere in the world directly from your desktop via Office 2010. Happy Windows Computing !!!

The problem occurred without warning after many previous instances of trouble-free copying of Notepad text into MS Word 2010. Here?s an example of what happens:-1. I type a sentence into Notepad.2. I then attempt to copy and paste it into an open MS Word file.3. The cursor in the resulting MS Word file stops blinking on completion of the ?paste? process. A few seconds later, MS Word indicates ?not responding?.4. I press CTRL + ALT + DEL to open the Task Manager.5. On doing this and clicking on the MS Word document in the Task Manager and selecting ?End Task?, a message box stating ? WINWORDC.EXE is not responding?, with 3 option buttons, pops up. One of the 3 option buttons is ?Close program?.6. When I click on ?Close program?, another message box pops up saying ?WINWORDC is trying to recover your information?. Then, a few seconds later, the MS Word document closes (but without saving the text copied from the Notepad file).

Okay--apparently 3 or 4 years ago I used a document to create a form template (not technically a form or template in the sense it did not have any fields--just used it to bring up to create new documents based on it). In any event, the document and apparently had some codes in it that I did not see and everything was fine for until moving to Word 2010. Now, virtually any document I pull up comes up with an error. I tried "Open and Repair" and that did not work.

But here is the issue--THIS NEVER SHOWED UP IN PRIOR WORD VERSIONS! I can go right now and pull the same document up on any one of 3 or 4 different computers in the office all running Office 2007 and the document displays fine. So there must be a way to stop Word from displaying the error. I don't want to have to go in an take out all of those codes from all the documents we have that includes them.

Hi,

I am developing an add-in for outlook that consists of creating a customized send button next to the standard one. when outlook is configured to use the word editor, when I add the customized send button to the command bar of the mail in edit mode, the add-in is also added in word document. The reason is that the word editor is activated in outlook. How can I tell my add-in not to add the button in word as well. I don't want to deactivate the editor word. There must be a way how to detect the opened application. I searched for my problem on the internet and people said to test if the kind of the document is word mail or word document. Here's part of my code that didn't work correctly:

//event triggered when item is opened

private void Inspectors_NewInspector(Outlook.Inspector i)

{

//some code to test if it is a maiitem, etc.

Word.Document document = (Word.Document)i.WordEditor;

if (document.Kind.ToString() == "wdDocumentEmail")

addsendbutton();

}

The problem is that the button is still showing at word level. Visual studio is not launching the condition on all the windows. So he?s adding it in word as well, although word document is a wdDocumentLetter.

I have 2 options in mind:

1- The code must not be called at new inspector level. Because this trigger is not launched in the case of the word document

2- The inspector from which we get the word editor is not the right one for word document (Word.Document ... Read more

Answer:Close Word document without shutting down Word as well

Go in word options/personalize and add the command "close"
The icon to close the current document will appear on the upper left tool bar.

Hello all,

On the 12th October I was editing a Word 2007 document on my Vista Home laptop. Throughout editing I pressed Ctrl S to save the doc over the previous version. I copied data in from several other files.
I went back yesterday to edit the document again and it has disappeared. The only version of the doc is a previous version dated 21st Sept.
I searched on all files modified after 11th Oct just in case I had saved it under another name. Not in there. The files I copied data from did come up in the search results though, soi knwo the search function is working.
I checked the default Autosave location - not in there.
I checked the recycle bin - the doc is not in there and neither are any ~ files or autosaved files. I haven't emptied my recycle bin for months.
I cannot find a word doc modified afetr the 11th October.

Can it really just have disappeared? It is my MBA dissertation paper and I worked on this edit for an awful lot of hours.

Many thanks.

Word 2016 is not using the up to date word document. When I go to save after opening up a brand new word doc. It tells me it will be updated to the latest word doc. I am using Office 2016 Pro on Windows 10 64bit HP laptop. Any advice would be welcome.

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Word 2016 is not using the up to date word document

Hi Hollyoaks777

Just so I have it straight, when you say "opening up a brand new document" do you mean you have a blank document that you open, say on your desktop (as a shortcut), or does this happen when you click File then New.

Have you checked Options => Save to see if there is an option box to control this behavior?

I had created a word file yesterday. But today while working on it, I tried to save, it gave a error message and closed the word window.I have ~word.tmp file. Tried to rename/ copy but it says make sure the file is not open.Request to hel me to retrieve the file

Answer:How to retrieve a word document from a word.tmp file

Are you using Microsoft Word? Or WordPad? Word uses either .doc or .docx as the file extension, WordPad uses .rtf or .txt. If you've already named & saved the file yesterday, that's the file you should be looking for. Chances are the original is still good but any changes you made today probably didn't 'stick'.

I have an old document created in Word Perfect 5.1 saved on a floppy disk. My present computer has Windows 98 and Microsoft Word. I need to edit and print the old Word Perfect document. Can it be translated to Word? Thanks.

Answer:Transfering word perferct document to Word

You should be able to hit File-Open from Word. Change the files of type (at the bottom of the dialog box) to "all files, *.*" and just double-click the Wordperfect document. It should automatically convert it.

After that, if I were you, I'd go to Tools-Options, Compatibility tab. Change compatibility to Word document. Then, hit ctrl-a to select the entire document, go to Format-Paragraph and make sure line spacing is single; then change the font to Arial, Times new roman, or other Word font, as opposed to the old Wordperfect fonts.

I have made a brochure (containing a table)in MS Word97 in *.doc format. The brochure needed to be transferred to my mother-in-law's PC for printing as we don't have a printer. Anticipating compatibility issues (we use MS Office on a system running Win98SE; she uses MS Works on a system running WinXP), I made one page and opened it on her PC. The PC read and printed my test document and I assumed it would work. I then spent the day making the brochure, FTPing and downloading it to her PC. Now when I go to open the documents, Works says that it can't read them (I tried various options - double-clicking to open; selecting different *.doc file extensions from the drop down menu etc). I downloaded the Word97 viewer from Microsoft and it, too, claims not to be able to read the documents. Is there anything I can do to make her PC recognise these documents?And why can't different Microsoft word processors read each other's file formats??? Arrrrrgh!Please help!Jill

Answer:Word viewer will not read Word document

Any version of Microsoft Word should be able to read a document from the same or an earlier version of Word. As long as you have saved the document as Word Document (*.doc). Opening the document from within Word is the safest way.

I recently had a staff member claim they were having issue downloading any .docx file sent as an attachment.I went over to take look at the PC in question and sure enough the file looked like an HTML file (with the small blue e).I right clicked and chose properties and instead of reading as type of file Microsoft Office Word Document it read as eventinf.planner. It was not set to open with Word. I clicked change and tried to to change it, no luck. I went to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - File Types, it was listed but grayed out.I finally ran the Office Repair and it now shows the same thing, icon now has the small Word icon, file type still shows as eventinf.planner BUT it does show and WILL open by default with Word.Someone suggested this might be a result of of installing SP2 for Office 2007?Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.Thanks,Chad

I am running Windows 7.

My laptop came with Word 2007 installed.  I am now using Office 365, so I have Word 2013 installed.
(I haven't uninstalled 2007 in case I do decide to let my monthly payment go at some point..... I know, but it hasn't been an issue until now)

I am currently trying to move items to an external while sorting.  I can shift+down arrow, and select multiple files of ALL other types except for Word documents.

When I hover the mouse over a Word doc in a file, my laptop seems to "freeze", and then a popup comes up saying "Microsoft office word 12.0   there is not enough memory or disk space to run Word".  It takes several minutes, and multiple popups, before it will "unfreeze", and let me continue. I can scroll down the list, but if I hover over another Word doc, it repeats.

I have rebooted several times.

I CAN open any documents in Word 2013, that's not an issue. I can't select documents (except one at a time, but the popup still occurs) to move them to the external.

Hard to explain but here goes:

When I have a sentence that I want to move to the middle of the page, I place the curser to the left of the word and try to push it right by hitting the space bar and nothing happens.

This is only when the word is all the way to the left of the page.

Is there some type of formatting that would allow this to be free so that I can push words forward??

I have a client with a problem creating new documents from the File > New > Word Document dropdown from Windows Explorer window. If I set her default font to Times New Roman it will stay for creating new documents from within Word. If she goes the other route mentioned above to create a new document it will always default to Courier. Also when she tries to save the document with the Save As item it defaults to txt instead of a .doc file. I am thinking there are two different templates for these two seperate ways of opening or creating a document.

I have Vista Home Premium that came with the Laptop I bought 11-21-08.
I opened new Word Files that were .doc but now all new Word Files are .docx.
I didn?t think much about it but now when I type & end a sentence then hit enter it gives me a double space.
I copied one of my old Word .doc to a folder & it doesn?t give me a double space, it gives me a single space or no space between the lines. (I can hit Enter again to get a double space if I want it).

I hope this is a simple fix but I can?t figure it out & I didn?t mess with the options in Word & just use the basic like Fount, Fount size, Font color & ABC.

I have off 2007 & maybe it was a MS Windows Update?

Answer:MS Word .doc & .docx problem

No. Office 2007 is probably set as a default to provide double spacing, which you can easily change to single spacing by checking Word 2007 help to change the default line spacing.

However, the reason it does not do it in your old documents is just because of that - these are old, already created documents. In Word 2003 format. Thus they already have a template associated, which includes a single carriage return upon hitting enter.

Finally, please realize that Office 2007 is a ***separate*** program from Vista - it does not come *with* Vista, although ti works quite well with both Vista and XP.

I've got some strange behavior going on with .doc files at the moment. Whenever I try to open a .doc file from Windows Explorer or a desktop shortcut, Word opens with the error message "Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions. * Check the file permissions for the document or drive. *Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space. *Open the file with the Text Recovery converter."

After clicking OK, the .doc file then opens in Word, apparently with no problems at all (I can edit, save, etc.). So basically the error message seems to be wrong, since the file does open properly.

I can open .doc files from within Word (File -> Open) with no error message.

The issue is more of an annoyance than anything else (since the file eventually opens up just fine), but I imagine it'll just become more irritating as time goes on. Any suggestions on how to resolve it? I've been poking around in the Folder Options -> File Types in Explorer without a clear sense of purpose.

I'm running MS Word 2003 SP3 on Windows XP Service Pack 3. If you need any further info, please let me know.

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

I have a problem with a PDF catalog, I want to export the text to Word without the images, using Adobe Acrobat X and I also tried to do with free online tools as well as Nitro Pro 9, and I get the following problems in the .doc, .docx:

- Text in the new row starts with a lowercase letter and in the catalog it starts with a uppercase letter (hello instead of Hello)
- Some parts of the text get completely lowercase but instead they should be all uppercase (hello instead of HELLO)
- Some parts of the text have random casing issue for example like this: hElLo instead of Hello

I have also tried exporting it to .rtf, excel formats are a complete mess so I can't even consider using them.

Does anyone have any idea/solution on how I can properly convert the PDF catalog to Word with the text being exact regarding the capitalization of the letters and other formatting - I don't see any options regarding keeping the format in Nitro and Acrobat.

Fonts used in PDF catalog is Myriad Pro and Myriad Pro-Black which I have installed in the system.

I am open to other suggestions it doesn't have to be Word, just as long as I can export/convert all of the text from the Catalog while maintaining the uppercase/lowercase letters and Bold option in some parts.

Please help and thanks in advance!

Variable - Value
Temp - C: Documents and Settings/ABC/Local Settings/Temp
TMP - C: Documents and Settings/ABC/Local Settings/Temp

Also, the Value in the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER >Software >Microsoft >Windows >CurrentVersion >Explorer >User Shell Folders >Cache is as %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files.

Normally if a file isn't being opened with the proper program you could right click and go through the Open With... process, but even after choosing Winword.exe it still won't show up as a program to even choose as the default program. (I'm running Vista)a
Not to be redundant, but the former thread that addressed this problem suggested using CCleaner or editing the registry. Many of the posters reported registry fixes and very complicated methods that fixed the problem. I have used both options for other problems,... but running CCleaner to do a Registry clean solved the problem very quickly - and much safer than working within the registry. This program is a gem and I use it in my tech work all the time.

How to repair corrupt Word Docx file? I have crucial important data and Word 2010 Docx file, my Word data file got corrupted due to virus infected, so how to get back important data. Ples help me.

Answer:How to repair corrupt Word Docx file

As Derek pointed out .docx files are actually a compressed or zip file.If all else fails you may be able to recover some data by going into the compressed file and extracting it by hand.If you wish to try:Open the .docx file with something like 7-zip, which is an open source archive program. You can also use Zip.Once you have the file open, you should see three directory's and one file:docPropsword-rels[Content_Types].xmlOpen the directory: wordIn the directory, there should be a file called: document.xmlThis is the file that contains your data, along with a ton of markup stuff.Copy this file to someplace you can work on it.Next, use a text editor like Notepad to open the document.xml file.You can start your search by looking for the string: space="preserve">Do a Find, in the text editor.The text following this string should be part of the data your looking for.You will need to go through the whole document as all the pieces of your data are spread out all over and NOT all your data will be preceded by this string, so once you get to the bottom, check to make sure you got it all.I'm not sure of the XML codes, but this has worked for me in the past. If you know XML you may have a better search method. Best of luck.MIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/

Hi

My grandfather got a new laptop with Windows 7 home premium x64 and I installed ms office 2007 professional on it.
Everything works but there is one little annoying problem, in the file explorer all .doc and .docx don't have their normal icons. First they just showed up as unknown files because they where not related to ms Word while all other files from Office looked totally normal. Then I fixed it that they would open with Word and they did and I could edit the files.
First the file icons where just blank but since I related the files with Word they got different icons but still not the normal ones.
The strange thing is that only the .doc and .docx files have the problem, all other normal files and all other Office files don't have this problem.

Please help me because my grandfather isn't allready that good with pc's and it is very annoying for him that he can't find his word files now because of the wrong icons.

edit: all other types of word files also do show their normal icons, it's just the .doc and .docx icons that are wrong.

Hi all
Another problem with Word 2010.

SAME PRINTER - SAME DOCUMENT - SAME FONT

Prints with a sort of white line half way through and at the last 3 lines of each page the same thing happens -- it's like a line of text is split.

Printed with Office 2007 both on W7 and 2003 Server - no problems at all -- so I've eliminated printer driver problems.

I'm afraid I've had now to give up with Office 2010 Beta (I was using 64 bit version).

Not ready yet for prime time -- I think MS will need to release a "Pre RTM" or another test version to get all the bugs out of Office 2010 before it goes final.

I have Word 2007 on my computer which until recently has worked fine. In December I bought an image from an online company which I am using for a letter head. Unfortunately and for no apparent reason, all my Word 2007 documents have now turned into docx documents. When I try to open them up they don't read correctly and are full of none descript information. Somebody has suggested Microsoft compatibility software. Can any suggest how to resolve this problem. Thanks

Hello, I just recently started receiving an error when trying to create a new email message, new document, etc through a word-based application such as Outlook and Word 2003. The error I was receiving:

The function you are attempting to run contains macro or content that requires macro language support. When the software was installed, you (or your administrator) chose not to install support for macros or controls.

Please note that this error just flared up recently and I have using these programs for a good 3 months without receiving this error. I have tried installing all the macro features in Word. I have also tried turning down the macro security levels to low. Thank you for your time!

A nonageneric friend wants to print labels for the envelopes from Word 2007.
He can print Photoshop and more or less anything he wants but anything from Word he has carriage movement and all printing noises, but a blank sheet of paper.
He can print emails but not the borders of each email (I think I have that the right way round)
I've checked the printer (HP 1000) it is there as the defaut printer and there is nothing in the print queue.
OS is XP

Answer:Printer will print as expected except Word 2007

Check to see you have "Print drawings created in Word" checked at Office Button | Word Options | Display: Printing options?

Hello

I am unsuccessful in getting the association of .doc and .docx files with Word 2007.

I have tried two methods:
One using:
Settings > Control Panel > Default programs
Associate a file type or protocol with a program > Select .doc > Change Program
Select Microsoft Office Word > Click OK
The "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is grayed out.

Two using:
RT Click on a .doc or .docx file
Open with > Chose default program from context menu > select Microsoft Office Word
Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file". It is NOT grayed out
Click OK

The error on attempted open is "Windows can not find the file"
I can get them associated with Microsoft Works Word Processor but not with word 2007

This is similar to the solved problem that I posted on Jan. 27 in the software forum "Excel file won't open"
It was solved by Barman58!
Thanks

Answer:Associate .doc and .docx with Microsoft office word 2007.

Hi Frank,

Seems that these Office doc's attributes are really sent to try us

Not sure from your post if you have followed the exact procedure, in your first method, that worked with the XLS files? - rather than select the Microsoft Word option from the available programs list, browse to the winword.exe file which should be in the same area as the excel.exe file from previous.

If this does not help there is another method, in the control panel - uninstall programs - you should be able to right click on the Microsoft Office entry and select Change, then repair, which should fix this and any other issues

another option would be to select change, and without actually changing anything proceed through the procedure, (basically this would re-install office over the top of itself.
Sorry if these instructions are a little vague, I do not have access to a copy of either Vista or Office 2007 at the moment

Yesterday I bought a new laptop. Before I got rid of the old one, I backed up all my files. I was previously running office 2007 which uses .docx. This new laptop came with a key to be entered on the office website which would download and install Office Home and Student 2010. I copied all my old files onto this new laptop, however, I cannot set Word 2010 to be the default program to open .docx files. If i right click a .docx file and select 'Open with...' Word is not in the list of programs. If I browse, it is not in 'Program Files'. I am able to start Word from the start menu. I figured that if I do this, open the task manager, under applications right click on 'Document 1 - Microsoft Word' and select 'Go to process' it would show me the executable's title under the 'Processes' in the Task Manager, which it does (WINWORD.EXE). If I right click on this and select 'Properties' I get an error message

'Q:\140061.enu\Office14\WINWORD.EXE
The specified path does not exist.

Check the path, and try again.'

I understand that Office 2010 uses Click-to-Run technology and that Q:\ is a drive created by Click-to-Run and that I cannot access this drive.

So if I cannot access WINWORD.EXE, how can I make Word 2010 the default program to open .docx. I can open Word and then from there open a file, but I would much rather be able to click a file from it's directory and have it open in Word.

Thanks in advance

Answer:How do I Microsoft Word 2010 default progam with .docx?

Accessing the Q drive is not possible with the Explorer. There are, however, some methods proposed on how to do that - example: ( Independent App-V Blog ? SoftGrid: 5 easy ways to look inside the Q-drive ). If you Google "Access to Q drive", you'll find more.

Btw. All Windows7 have x86 program files and (x64) program files.

I have installed Microsoft Office 2010 on my new Windows 8 computer, but the docx files do not have the correct icon. I've tried repairing, uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Office, but I am still having the same problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Answer:docx files not showing Microsoft Word icon

Hello Deposit,

Double check in Default Programs to make sure that Word is set as the default program with all of it's associations, and see if that sorts it afterwards.

Hope this helps,

Hello,
I am trying to figure out how to add to my current macro in order for it to go through subfolders as well. The code currently works fine but does not go deeper then the first folder. I need to it to go into all sub folders as well.

Currently it looks like this:
Sub conv()
sPath = "C:\Temp\"
sFile = Dir(sPath & "*.docx")
While sFile <> ""
With Documents.Open(sPath & sFile)
.SaveAs FileName:=sPath & Replace(sFile, "docx", "doc"), FileFormat:=0
.Close
End With
sFile = Dir
Wend
End Sub

Again i need to add to this so that it goes in and converts in sub folders as well.

Any help is extremly greatly appreciated.

-Lorie

Answer:Word Macros to Convert files from .docx to .doc -Subfolders!

This should do the trick
Code:
Sub conv()

Dim FSO As Object
Dim SourceFolder As Object
Dim SubFolder As Object

sPath = "C:\Temp\"

Set FSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set SourceFolder = FSO.GetFolder(sPath)

sFile = Dir(sPath & "*.docx")
While sFile <> ""
Documents.Open (sPath & sFile)
ActiveDocument.SaveAs FileName:=sPath & Replace(sFile, "docx", "doc"), FileFormat:=0
ActiveDocument.Close
sFile = Dir
Wend

For Each SubFolder In SourceFolder.subfolders
sPath = SubFolder & "\"
sFile = Dir(sPath & "*.docx")
While sFile <> ""
Documents.Open (sPath & sFile)
ActiveDocument.SaveAs FileName:=sPath & Replace(sFile, "docx", "doc"), FileFormat:=0
ActiveDocument.Close
sFile = Dir
Wend
Next

End Sub

This has been happening for the last 3-4 weeks.....any help greatly appreciated as I am losing saved work by the day.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Not sure if windows or Word ...files keep appearing corrupted docx

Hello, and Welcome

A ~ in front of a file name usually indicates a temp file that Windows creates. Can you open the original file or is the file name with the ~ in front the orginal file you are trying to open?

Hi guysWhen I save a document to the hard drive it saves it as a .docx file and shows the word logo on the icon, however when I click on the saved document it statses that it cant find the document and lists the root of it to exactly where it is !!??.If I open the word programme up however I can then open the documents from within the application if I direct it to the stored .docx file.Any ideas why the document fails to open directly without opening the program first, Ive checked file associations and the files are associated to the word application.

Answer:Word 2007 and Vista .docx save problems

It's to do with the fact that .docx is a new Office 2007 format which is not backward compatible. Microsoft allow you to download a compatibility pack to eg open the file with older Office programs or there is a rather unsatisfactory way of asking 2007 to store the doc in the older format eg click here

I'm wondering if someone has seen this problem. I've been running MS Office 2007 on Windows 10 for over six months with no problems. Now all of a sudden, Word will not open to full screen, but remains minimized on the task bar. And there is nothing that I can to to maximize to full screen. This happens with any new or saved .doc or .docx files. PDFs and Excel files open fine with no problems I tried to repair Word from the install disk, and even uninstalled then reinstalled the whole Office suite, but nothing has worked to solve this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Word .doc and .docx files open minimized and will not maximize

Welcome to TenForums @Kent1

When you open Word and its icon is on the taskbar, do you see a thumbnail of the Word document if you hover the mouse over the icon? This suggest it's running correctly.

Is the icon's background the same colour as the rest of the taskbar, or is it highlighted by being slightly lighter?

Any icon on the taskbar will be highlighted while the mouse hovers over it. If the icon is underlined it indicates the app is running.

If you click on an icon and open its window it remains highlighted when the mouse is moved away, this is the taskbar's way of telling the window is open, it will not be highlighted when minimised.

If your Word icon indicates the window should be open somewhere (if not, click on it so it does) but you can't see a window, then it may be that the open window is lost somewhere off the edge of your desktop, sometimes these coordinates get messed up. Try right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting 'Cascade windows'. This should reposition any 'lost' window back into the visible desktop area.

Having GREAT difficult with peculiar problem. Whenever i use the "paste special" feature to link a PPTx graph into my Word 2007 document, the graph appears with what seems to be 3 dimensional gridlines across it. These are not the gridlines set up by the data set, but rather, they apear as white lines across the colored sections of my graph. I cannot print it like this. We have tried many possible solutions -- including presets in Word, Axis settings in Powerpoint. It only happens when i link the two documents through "paste special," not if i just copy and paste.
Sample attached.

Does anyone else have this problem? More importanly, have you fixed it?

I spent 2 hours online with microsoft's Omnitech yesterday, gave over control of my computer and the tech guy never fixed the problem!!!! Swear he was watching tv and just moving his cursor back and forth over my screen the whole time!

Thx

When saving a Word 2007 document as a webpage (htm, html), an extra folder is automatically created besides the hmtl document itself. This folder contains background information like pictures, wallpaper etc. Is there a way to prevent that folder from being created in the first place? I've got Word 2000 on another computer, and when I save my word documents as html files over there, that extra folder is not generated. The only time that folder is created in 2000 is if my documents contain pictures, wallpaper etc. In Word 2007, it is created all the time, even though my documents are just plain text.

Answer:Solved: Word 2007, saving document as html document: how to get rid of extra folder?

Managed to find the solution, it was very simple after all. One has to save the document as a filtered webpage and click "yes" when a box pops up warning you that you will use certain featuers which are specific to Office2007, such as the background. Then the document will save without that extra folder and files.

I have two questions regarding documents created in Word 2007...

1) Can links be created within a Word document? For example, can I click on and item my table of contents and have the document jump to that particular section of the document?

2) Also, is there a way to make sections of the document hidden until the user clicks a specific word or graphic in the document?

I'd like to specify a particular instruction and include a "Show example" link that would make a detailed example appear for those who needed the extra help.

Thanks everyone!

Answer:Word 2007 - Links within a document? Hide/Show sections of a document?

If you created table of contents through References - Table of Contents, you can hold Ctrl and click on the item in that table, word will take you there. This feature is standard.

Also, to navigate inside document you can use bookmark option.
Insert bookmarks. Word 2010 Bookmarks
Then insert Hyperlink - in the window select second tab "Place in This Document" and choose your bookmark.

As for hiding parts of document, I do not think that is possible.
You can create that in HTML document with javascript, but not in Word document.
