What exactly are 'Windows Update Client' Updates for ?

Question: What exactly are 'Windows Update Client' Updates for ?

In amongst today's round of updates was KB3075853
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3075853

The details of what these updates do is never specified.

Specifically, I would like to know whether these are a 'back-door' for future W10 compatibility checks and upgrades. I haven't installed this update, and unless I can be 100% certain it isn't W10 related then I shall keep it hidden.

Preferred Solution: What exactly are 'Windows Update Client' Updates for ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: What exactly are 'Windows Update Client' Updates for ?

The windows update client is the actual windows update program itself.

Every so often Microsoft will issue an update to the update system based on the feedback and telemetry they receive from users who have update failures, or to patch possible vunrabilities.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 but have no intention of accepting the free upgrade to Windows 10.

Since April 2015, there have been a number of updates to the Windows Update client on Windows 7.

KB2990214 (April 2015).
The KB article does not specify that it is an update to the Windows Update client, but does indicate that it is relevant to upgrading to Windows 10.
However, other information on the Internet (even some from Microsoft) suggests that it is indeed an update to the Windows Update client and contains improvements for all operating systems, even those that are not upgrading to Windows 10.
Windows Update offered it as ?Important?, so I installed it.

There followed a sequence of specific monthly updates to the Windows Update client.
KB3050265 (June 2015), which was replaced by KB3065987 (July 2015), which was replaced by KB3075851 (August 2015), which was replaced by KB3083324 (September 2015), which was replaced by KB3083710 (October 2015).
Through a mixture of being away for much of the summer, a lack of information and transparency in the KB articles, and conflicting information between the KB article and Windows Update (e.g. KB3065987 - KB article designates it as ?Important?, but Windows
Update offered it as ?Optional Recommended?), I installed only KB3075851, KB3083324, and KB3083710 (which, effectively, is just one update because of the replacement chain).

KB3102810 (November 2015).

Hello,

Today I made a format and a clean install on my Laptop puting the same Windows as always in this device, that is the Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. The first thing I made after Windows installation finished, is to check for updates. The loading bar was loading for about 15 minutes without any result, so I decided to make a Windows reastart. After the restart, and after I gave 20 minutes of inactivity to the system (in case of Windows wants to configure something), I ran again the Windows Update process and it stucks there for about an hour until now... The progress bar still stands on 'Checking for Updates...' stage.

Does Microsoft has problem on its updating servers? How can I fix the problem, what can I do?? Please help!

System Configuration info:
Device: HP Laptop
CPU: Intel Celeron Processor T3000 (1M Cache, 1.80 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
RAM: 2GB (DDR3 1333MHz 1.5V PC3-10600)
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (Version 6.1, Build 7601, Service Pack 1)
OS State: Clean install, no drivers (doesn't need) or other software installed
WU Client: Version 7.6.7600.320

(Ask me if you want to know any other system parameter)

Answer:Windows 7 Update Client hangs on the 'Checking for updates...' screen!

I found the solution my own! (By reading other posts inside this forum with the same problem like mine, which I didn't have see before..)

Well the solution is more than simple: Patience!!

You just have to press the "Check for updates" button and leave the PC or Laptop alone - and connected to the internet obviously - for hours! Warning: Turn off sleep, hibernation and hard disk shut off feature temporarily before check for updates.

My laptop, with the default settings in Windows Update (Install Updates Automatically) took 4 hours to find and download the appropriate updates...

This is Microsoft's problem on it's servers, due to the excessive traffic they have on downloading Windows 10 ISO's to the computers with older operating systems...

Tried the following:
1. Update works if I bypass the router, ie. connect the PC directly to modem.
2. It also works from different ISP, through router (at work).
3. Format disk & Reinstall windows 7

Hi,

Try to remove the proxy server entry from the WinHTTP proxy configuration for Windows 7:

1.
Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start programs and files box.
2.
Right-click cmd.exe in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or click Continue.
3.
Type the following command and then press Enter:
netsh winhttp show proxy
Note The proxy setting is listed next to Proxy Server. If there is no proxy server, Direct Access <no proxy server> is shown in the Command Prompt window.
4.
To remove the listed proxy setting, type the following command and then press Enter:

netsh winhttp reset proxy
5.
Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Update, and then try to download and install updates again.Alex Zhaozx

I just saw the new Client System Update utility for my E6500, downloaded, and installed it on Win7 x64. I've been talking about Dell creating such a util for years and finally Dell did.

However, it does not work. After I press the Check for updates button, after a bit it comes back with "Check for updates failed" and the GUI-U15 error in the logs. I tried many times, including after a reboot. Also, the app just disappears (probably crashes silently) when I go to Advanced->system details.

Any ideas? I was excited to spread the word around about it but can't as it doesn't work at all.

Hi,
I have several Win7 x64 SP1 clients, some are running on a VirtualBox VM on a Mac OSX host on a private network and some are standard bare metal installs. Other machines on the network are downloading updates OK. They are not connected to the internet. They
have been running for a few years now and was connecting to a WSUS server (version 3-2.7600.226, install type 1) on windows Server 2008 R2 to receive updates.
A while back some of the PCs stopped reporting to the WSUS server and now will not update at all. I have tried connecting directly to the Internet and no matter what I try I cannot get it to update.
I have extracts from the WindowsUpdate log, Windows Error Report, I have run the WSUS Diagnostic Tool and have also tried to re-install dot net 3.5 and 3.5 sp1.
The various outputs and reports follow:

Hello,

We are preparing some deploy of Windows 8.1 tablets to use the native Metro (Modern) email Client using EAS to connect to a Lotus Domino Email Server.

Initially we can configure the email server connection, via Exchange Active Sync, without any issue and everything is working and syncing good.
At this time OS version was 6.3.9600 16384.

After Windows Updates the OS version is now 6.3.9600 17415 and the focused email client stop working and don't sync.

Looking for the account definitions when OS was on the previous version
(6.3.9600 16384) it was possible to define if the connection will use SSL or not. With the new OS version (6.3.9600 17415) the same account settings show now a "ghosted" option to activate or deactivate SSL. This could mean the newer version are forcing the SSL use...

From the server side the SSL is up and running and I already setup the same account, that have trouble with the Windows 8 Client, in a Android Tablet and with Windows 10, both using SSL, and it work without clues on both.

If I decided to make the Windows Updates before setting up the email Client using EAS even knowing the settings required for the account config are absolutelly correct, the email config routine insist saying "to check the parameters" and apparently the account is not added ...

The fields required in both versions to configure a EAS connection are:

Hola,

Yes, I'm stubborn. I figure I could just back up (well, I have), format & reinstall. But this would be no fun, and not very educational.

Anyways, here's a brief (yeah, right...) description of the problem I'm experiencing & it's history.

Hardware:
PII MMX, 350MHZ, Award BIOS, 20GB HD, 256MB SDR 100MHZ

I had 2 partitions on my single HD. On C there was Win98SE and on D Win2K on NTFS. I divided D into two partitions using Partition Magic, making the new one (E) FAT32, and formatted both. It went well.

Then, on D (NTFS) I installed Win2K Pro. Went wonderful. I proceeded to add all the components that had not been included in the additional installation (from the CD), installed Service Pack 2 (express setup from the Net), and then began installing all available Updates through the Windows Updates utility, including the Security Rollup Package, hotfixes, IE 5.5 Media Player 7.1, Compatibility Update and a couple more.

Sometime after installing two newly introduced security updates (Q318138 & Q321599) I began experiencing problems with my OS: it became very irresponsive. Like, after clicking the Start button I had to wait for like 2-3 minutes for the start menu to show up. I uninstalled Q318138, and it seemed to have gone away.

I thought that was the bad apple, and happily continued updating (Have my head examined? Why?). Next was the MS .Net framework. Then my computer began hanging during restart, though hitting reset seemed to solve i... Read more

Anyone doing a fresh install of Windows 7 should manually install SP1 (if needed).

The Windows Update Agent was renamed to Windows Update Client.

Manually requesting a search for Windows Updates on a Windows 7 computer with SP1 install should prompt the user to install a pre-SP1 Windows Update (WU) Agent (7.6.7600.320). Seems odd.

That old WU Agent worked just fine until Microsoft changed the update servers. The info coming back from the servers seems to now cause high RAM/CPU usage for some computers... but that old WU Agent should eventually get the job done. The computer might be useless for any other task for 24+ hours.

You can skip installing that old WU Agent and manually install the latest WU Client instead. Or, you can manually install the latest WU Client over top of that old WU Agent.

However, below is what I encountered when I went to install the latest Windows Update Client on a W7 pro 64bit SP1 computer.

I started by using these search terms in Google:
"Windows Update Client" "March 2016" "Windows 7"
As this post ages, replace "March 2016" with the current month/year.
If that does not find the desired KB, try the previous month.

That lead me to this link for March 2016: KB3138612.

The W7 pro 64bit SP1 computer has IE8 installed by default.

Visiting KB3138612 via IE8 got me this:

Clicking on the link to update the browser got me this:

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:

AMD Athlon ll X4 750K
AMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3

Answer:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:

Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.

You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum. Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates. Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine. I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silver... I recently (one week ago) made myself a dual-boot to Windows Vista SP2. I installed everything I needed and set the Windows updates to Automatically install updates. When I needed to make a video smaller (no need to talk about this in this thread) on Handbrake it said I needed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. I was surprised to see that. I went to see what Windows updates does and it wasn't checking for updates, as I set it to do. I started the check myself. I left it like that 30 minutes. When I closed my game, it was in the same state: checking for updates. So, I went to my .NET Framework 4 installer and, after 15 minutes, it gave an error: another installer is running. There were no installers, besides Windows update. So, I closed its process and let the installer run. After 15 minutes, it gave me an error (I don't remember the name of the error, I'll post it ASAP). So, I started researching, tried everything (MS FIXIT 50202, reset windows update history, reregister windows update components which gave me error 1060 and error 5 - error 5 is after trying MS FIXIT). I tried to "force" the .NET Framework 4 install by installing it step-by-step: 1.1 1.1 SP1 3.5 4. No succes. I AT LEAST need to install that .Net Framwork somehow. And the most interesting part is that my antivirus doesn't say that my OS is not up-to-date . SPECS: 6GB RAMAMD Athlon ll X4 750K 3.2-4.0 GHzAMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3

Now it doesn't even give the error anymore. It just sits there and fake-installing .Net Framework.

After installing SP1, I too have the permanently-running Windows Update and am not keen to leave it churning away using up one CPU core completely for an indeterminate time.

Looking around the forum I have seen several methods that have worked for others. The simplest method seems to be:
-- create a System Restore point,
-- stop the Windows Update Service (from Task Manager / Services tab / [Services] button,
-- download and install a new Windows Update Client from https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3138612 (Mar 2016),
-- reboot.

I chose that particular WU Client as it is the latest without any new prerequisites.

After that I can then choose which further updates I want to take.

Does that sound OK? Are there any pitfalls to watch out for / things to check?

Answer:SP1 vs Windows Update Client

Hi:

AFAIK KB 3138612 was superseded by another patch.

The 3 critical ones for a new install seem to be:

3125574
3020369
3172605

Yes, if it's "stuck" in perpetual "checking for updates" or "downloading" updates, you'll need to first disable WU from services.msc (change to manual and then stop the service) and change the WU settings to "never check for updates" in the WU applet and then reboot.

That should permit those 3 patches to install.
You'll need to reboot again when done.
Then, go back to services.msc and change WU back to Automatic (delayed start) and go back to WU settings and change to "notify but do not install".
Do a manual update check and see what patches are now available....
Everything should work OK now.

This girl on our floor is getting all of the symptoms of the good ole blaster worm and it's 1 minute to reboot issues. I figured I could just windows update until I fix it.
So I install the updates. They install fine, no errors, and windows update says they're installed. Reboot, the same updates are listed. Try once again, and again it says the same ones are listed after I reboot. So I try through automatic updates, and, once again, the same thing. The updates just aren't installing besides saying that they are installed.
I then download the stand-alone blaster worm patch. Run it, and right after I click "I Agree" and hit next, the window just closes, no errors or anything. Try again, same thing. Try in safe mode, same thing.
I've never had a problem with this before, does anyone have any recommendations?

Answer:Windows Update installs updates, but they're still listed under updates

I had the same thing on a system I was working on. I ran Spybot and Ad-aware and cleaned off so much crap... But I had to let Spybot start at reboot to catch the app-killer. Try that and see if you can get those updates to take. It may be some nastiness in the box. Umm, no pun intended.

Hi,
We are having problems with some clients not updating from our wsus server. They come up with error '0x80072ee2'. With most clients, they will eventually start working and once they have started, there seems to be no further problem.

But i have one particular client that just fails over and over again. I have been able to run a check against Microsofts own server once or twice, but even that often fails.

On our wsus server, it is in the list of clients but its status is 'Not yet reported'.

There is nothing out of the ordinary about this machine. Below is a section from the windowsupdate.log

Which appears to suggest some sort of proxy failure, but we dont use a proxy.

Just installed (on a test machine) a W7 integration I built in February 2016. It was built from an original (May 2011?) SP1 ISO plus around 290 selected updates.

My aim is to see how many updates will then be on offer from MS.

After doing some research, it seemed that I should probably install several update files after running the integration. These are:
1) KB3020369 - a Servicing Stack update,
2) KB3050265 - which contains the Group Policy alteration that enables W10 to be blocked,
3) KB3138612 - which is apparently the most recent update for the Windows Client Update.

But I found I'd already included 3020369 in my integration, so I only installed 3050265 and 3138612.

However, after doing all that and getting online, Windows Update has been running for around 1 hour with no result, so maybe I need some further updates for the Windows Update Client?

Comments, please.

Trying to upgrade to Windows 10 before the deadline and have been at this for DAYS! It keep failing and saying that I need to remove Client Security. I don;t have a problem with that but HP won't let me remove it. I have to remove Devce Access Manage, File Sanitiser, Theft Recovery and Drive Encryption. The problem is that Drive Encryption has to be disabled in Client Security but I can't get into CS - getting an error when I try to log in (depsite it being the correct password!!) So, what do I need to do in order to upgrade to Win 10?? I'm just about ready to format this thing or put it on the fire

Microsoft is updating Vista & Server 2008, to the ribbon framework for a few applications.

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Fo...t/thread/a578cedb-7c87-4566-bab7-ffc581d17e24

I've also read they are releasing an updated version of Windows Update for Vista. It looks like both changes will be rolled out when 7 hits the shelves.

Hello everyone, I've looked around at other threads related to my issue, and I can't seem to find a correct answer.
I have a computer lab that I've recently installed a Windows 7 Enterprise image onto 35 Dell Optiplex computers (most are 380's, a few older 360's).
I created the image using MDT2010 and used one of the 380's as a reference.
All has been well for about a month or two but recently 6 computers are giving me Windows Update errors with the error code of 80080005.
I have a WSUS 3.0 SP2 server running, and all of my other computers seem to be getting their updates just fine. WSUS has the problematic computers in it's database, but it shows that they haven't checked in for "x" days.
I have Avast 4.8 Professional installed, I have OpenDNS configured to block bad websites, ____, etc. and I also use an Untangle server to prevent access to bad websites. I've ran a Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan on the affected computers, as well
as Windows Defender scan, and Windows Live OneCare scans, and all have found no malicious software.
I have also tried resetting the Windows update service as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 as well as a script that supposedly does the same thing, but also resets all previous
update events, but I can't find the script source right now (I had ran it last week, and it didn't work).
I'm currently running a SFC /Scannow on one of the computers, and now it has finished. It gives the... Read more

Answer:Windows Update Error 80080005 Windows 7 Client with WSUS 3.0 SP2 server

Alright, I re-attempted to run the "SFC /scannow" command under a Administrator Command Prompt window, and got this error:
"SFC /scannow error message: Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"
I searched around a bit, and found a suggestion to check that the TrustedInstaller/Windows Module Installer is running.
When trying to start the Windows Module Installer, I get this error:

Windows Modules Installer - Error 1450 Insufficient System Resources
What a fun problem this is turning out to be. I'd like
to just re-image these computers, but I fear that it'll just happen again and I'm wondering why it's only a handful of computers that are affected, yet I have over 65 machines that were all installed from the same exact image.

I'll keep poking along trying to find something that fixes this darn issue. If anybody comes up with any ideas, I'll gladly try them. Thanks!

Just found this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/42e2a200-defe-4c6b-a1b3-606836dcfabb
and I'm trying the suggestion to set the registry limit size to "no limit" (setting hex value of 0xfffffff) to see if it works. If it gets the sfc to run, it might fix my windows update issue as well.
I have ArcGIS installed on 25 of the lab machines, and according to the link that I posted above, others have experienced problems after installing the ArcGIS software. ... Read more

i upgraded from win 7 to win 10 in early august. no problems. i've been installing all updates since then and installed updates always showed status of updates. after installing fall update i noticed my update history was erased and any updates since, like defender definition files, don't appear in the list. only one update is listed: Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3103688) installed on 11/14/2015.

Answer:Windows 10 fall update erased the Windows Update history plus new installed updates don't appear. What do I do?

I'm starting a new thread on this because it's 2016 and people like me are still having problems upgrading to Windows 10 1511 update. Currently my Windows update "we could not uninstal these apps" window says I need to delete HP Client Security Manager and HP ProtectTools Security Manager. OK This screen shows up AFTER I already installed the LATEST Client Security manager [the EXE file is sp74101.exe]This installation did NOT delete the old HP security programs like some have been saying. I CANNOT Delete the old ProtectTools Security Manager because I cannot delete the device access manager program. A red User Account Control window opens telling my I CANNOT delete that program. So i installed a third party uninstaller and deleted the program that way. When I restarted my computer, THERE WAS NO LOG IN OPTIONS!!! I had to go into safe mode and restore my computer. This issue is getting very grievous and I cannot find solutions. I NEED solutions to get this Windows update installed, and if possible deleting all my HP security programs without ruining my computer log in and fingerprint ability. I've already read tons of blogs about this but the information is unclear, scattered, and often doesn't work for me.

When I boot my computer in the morning, more than once, Windows 7 shows a message by the systray that windows will reboot in so many minutes. If I don't pay attention and stop it, it reboots when it wants to. It just rebooted while doing a file transfer unattended. It killed the transfer 50 minutes into it.

When I want to shut down the computer myself, most of the time Outlook prevents closing, but when Windows want to reboot, it does not care which programs I have open. In the middle of anything, it reboots.

How can I change this to make it have my approval before rebooting. If this cannot be done, where do I change the timing?

Reading around, it seems the state of things at Microsoft has changed drastically since W10 was announced.

Most frighteningly they changed the name of the updater and left this article to depreciate
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/949104
"Note The latest version of the Windows Update Agent for Windows 8.1 is 7.9.9600.16422. The latest version of the Windows Update Agent for Windows 8 is 7.8.9200.16693. The latest version of the Windows Update Agent for Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP is 7.6.7600.256."

Horrifyingly that is still the top result for Windows Update Client because everything sucks.

Anyways so from my understanding, it seems that reinstalling windows 7 will result in the updater trying to update to 7.6.7600.320 which is a horrible update that eats memory and takes three times longer to update.

So one should manually update the updater to the latest version before doing anything on a fresh install of windows 7. But where is one to go to find the latest version? Microsoft seemingly helps with this but does not, and instead deceives as I have explained above.

Anyways, is there a better way than using google to search these forums to find out? https://www.google.ca/#q=latest+clie...ion/&tbs=qdr:m

So, I don't really know any details of what malware I may have on my computer other than its symptoms and the likelihood that it came through utorrent (which has since been taken off the computer). Basically, the problem began manifesting itself with the BSOD in Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I think I have taken care of that problem. The remaining symptoms of the malware are that windows and windows defender cannot update itself. Also, I cannot download any type of anti-virus update software or even the programs themselves. The updates just say they were unsuccessful. When I attempt to do a manual install/update of anti-virus or windows updates I get a "cannot connect to webpage". Sometimes, I will be redirected from an anti-virus download site to a random unaffiliated site. When I attempt to run a free online virus scan, the update will not work and therefore there is no ability to scan.

Thanks for whatever help you can offer. Eric

I would like to delete the failed updates list in Windows 7 Update. I have done this in the past but forget exactly the process.

I think you go to Windows Folder-Software Distribution. After deleting everyhting in the folder., i think you are to restart the computer. Once finished the list of updates in Windows Update will be cleared.

Please correct if I am wrong. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Answer:Failed Updates in Windows Update. Want to clear update list?

This is the way I suggest :

Go to start > type in cmd > right click at cmd.exe > Run as Administrator.

Type in "net stop WuAuServ" without quotes > hit enter.

Type in "start %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore" without quotes > hit enter. A folder will come up. Don't close that black window.

Rename file "DataStore" to "DataStoreold" without quotes.

Go to that black screen, Type in "net Start WuAuServ" without quotes > hit Enter. After it finished you can close it.

Now your Windows Update logs will now cleared.

Thank you.

Hi
I'm running Windows 7 32bit.

I performed a clean install on a new hard drive, I successfully ran a few updates with Windows update and eventually was offered the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile which i installed.
When i tried to check for updates after that it failed with error 0x8024402f.
I have tried the "FixIt" tools from Microsoft, none hav ehelped.
The only thing that allows me to check for updates succesfully is if I uninstall .NET Framework 4 Client Profile.

I downloaded more updates from the Microsoft catalog site, specifically for .NET 4, hoping that these would fix the problem.

I have also tried reinstalling windows (after having formatted the drive again) and without any other software (not even anti virus software) running windows update.
The same thing happened; the first few updates were succesfull, but as soon as .NET 4 Client profile is installed, checking for updates fails.

I have a few files that might be helpfull namely a Network capture taken during the attempted update check, an excerpt from the WindowsUpdate.log file.

Bottom line is though, This problem only happens when i have .NET framework 4 Client Profile installed.

This is a very strange problem becuase I installed the .NET Framework 4 when it was released and have not had any issues with updates since then. Its just recently since I reformatted...

Please help!

PS:
I had to append .TXT to the .cap file in order to upload it.

Answer:.NET Framework 4 Client Profile causing Windows Update Error 0x8024402

So, I ended up intstalling .NET Framework 4.5 BETA and now I am able to check for and install updates through Windows Update.

Hello,
The system is a Lenovo G40 notebook running Windows 8.1, with Comodo firewall, and Avast free antivirus.
When Windows Update is downloading updates, if I open Task Manager and increase system priority to High for wuauclt.exe, this crashes the Windows Update client. Specifically, there is no error message, but Windows Update ceases to carry out tasks, and no
longer responds to the pointer.
Prior to using Windows Update, I disable the Avast antivirus.
Windows Update is set to: "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them".
I would appreciate a solution for this issue.

After installing Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade on a new seagate 320 g hdd on a Toshiba L300 Laptop with 32 bit that had Vista with latest SP on a 120gb hdd.then installing the sp1, the windows updater will not download and install updates. As it was I had to manually download the sp1 to a flash drive from my desktop and put it on the laptop. No problems there, but was hoping it would solve the Update problem, but didn't. I get the "Fail" error codes. 1. 80070570 and 2. 8007001F. I have 52+ KB updates and not one of them will download and install. Called MS help and for two days they had me try different things. They even took control of the computer and couldn't figure it out. I checked memory and did a chkdsk on the new HDD. In desperation for trouble shooting I put the Vista HHD back in and ran updates with no problems at all then I reinstalled the 320 G HHD. I didn't have a BSOD at all. But I downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials and when I did that I would get the BSOD for what ever reason. I had a hard time getting it uninstalled because as soon as you would start windows, within a few seconds I would get the BSOD. When I finally got the Security Essentials uninstalled the BSOD Went away. Have no Idea what one had to do with the other. I just want to get the updater to work. Any Help

Ever since the emergence of Windows 10 upgrade updates, I've been avoiding installing most of the "Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems" updates whereas before I would install all of them without second thought.

Of course I do look through these updates to see if there's any useful ones available though most of the time it seems like they're not that important to install ASAP.
As you can see, I got quite a few of them hidden:
However when I look through the "important" updates, one of the "persistent" update is grabbing my attention: Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: [insert date].

Along with this update, I'm not sure if these are important to warrant compulsory installation every time a new version of this particular update are being released. It seems like they're frequently being offered which makes me think that it really is an important update to install.

As a result do I need to install these particular updates regularly in the same way as installing security updates?

Thanks guys and I appreciate your help.

this in feedback hub, but this is related to my Work Computer and I do not want to link personal Microsoft Account to My work computer. So I thought I would put this here instead. Before I tried uninstalling the update I tried removing Internet Explorer

Hello.

When my League of Legends client updates it starts out fine but when it's nearing the end, the download/install speed starts slowing down a lot until it reaches almost 0 kbps and after a few seconds my PC starts locking up and then I get a BSOD (kernel_data_inpage_error 0x0000007A).

I get stuck on the BSOD screen because Windows doesn't detect the SSD anymore, so I have no dump files. Btw, I get no message that the dump couldn't be created or anything, it just stays there and I have to manually shut off the PC. And I do have my PC set to automatically restart when I get a BSOD. So after the BSOD I need to leave my PC turned off for about a minute or two, otherwise the SSD won't be detected. It only happens when the LoL client updates but it's been happening everytime (never while playing or doing anything else).

My OCZ Vertex 4 has firmware 1.5, my BIOS firmware is up to date and so are my GPU drivers (have the latest Catalyst beta version). I've ran chkdsk through the "Error-checking" option on the Tool tab of the drive properties, and I checked the "Scan for and attempt the recovery of bad sectors". Got no errors, the only thing was some free space that was marked as allocated when it shouldn't have been (or something like that).

After this I tried reinstalling LoL and Adobe AIR (the client needs it) but when I'm updating the game (necessary to complete the install) I get the BSOD again, so now I can't even finish installing the game on ... Read more

Answer:BSOD 0x0000007A when LoL client updates

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup tool before you upload another zip.

If still there is no recorded dump, take a camera snap of the next BSOD screen and upload it for us.

We need to know the arguments (some codes associated with the bugcheck code no) of the bugcheck at least; without it we cannot proceed.

Hi,

A client which is in a domain environment is not able to detect any approved updates from the WSUS server. The search for available updates takes too long. This problem does not occur on other clients.

The folder "SoftwareDistribution" has already been removed, even the file "WindowsUpdate.log". The services BITS and WUAUSERV have been restarted. The tool "Windows Update Diagnostics Tool" has been executed, too. The firewall
is disabled.

I also tried those instructions:
https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/sus/2008/09/18/wsus-clients-fail-with-warning-syncserverupdatesinternal-failed-0x80244010/
http://www.sysax.com/ftblog/windows-ftp/exceeded-max-server-round-trips-0x80244010/
http://superuser.com/questions/810122/windows-update-failing-with-error-80244007-could-not-search-for-new-updates

All solutions failed. Even the command "wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow".

After executing the WSUS Client Diagnostics Tool, I received the following error:

Checking Machine StateChecking for admin rights to run tool . . . . . . . . . PASSAutomatic Updates Service is running. . . . . . . . . . PASSBackground Intelligent Transfer Service is not running. PASSGetFileVersion(szEngineDir,&susVersion) failed with hr=0x80070002The system cannot find the file specified.

How can I fix this error? Thank you for your answers in advance.

I have group policy set for users to acquire automatic updates on their machines and to install at 3AM. Just like the default setting on standalone machine. What I've noticed though is the pc's are installing some but not all the available updates. I'm trying to figure out why the machines are not downloading and installing all critical updates automatically. Is this because some updates require the user to be logged with administrator priviledge? I have a few people that have admin priviledge on their pc, but most have user priviledge.

Answer:automatic updates on active directory client

The AU client's log file resides in the following location: %WINDIR%\WindowsUpdate.log

I suggest you peruse through that for any indication of the problem. Is this affecting all of your clients, or just a subset of them?

"most have user privilege"

Good, don't change this, because they don't need to be Administrators. Whatever you do, do not make them admins.

Hello,

We have recently updated Norton Antivirus to the latest edition.

Using the Symantec System Center we have deployed the updates to the Clients. This was succesfull on most but we have 4 that it refuses to connect to.

From the Client PC we can go through to the server and install the software / apply updates manually but it refuses when trying from SSC.

The error we get is that Symantec Anti Virus can not connect to...

Any ideas what we should be looking for...
TIA

Answer:Solved: Norton Antivirus - Client Updates

My first guess would be check the firewall on the client machines.

If the firewalls are off, then i'd do a google search for manually removing symantec client. Then try pushing a new client to those machines. You could also google for a script called No-Nav. It will remove anything that has to do with any symantec product from the client.

Another thing i just remembered about was the software for APC UPSs can cause problems with Symantec's anti-virus. Is this software on any of those clients?

Do not hijack a Solved thread, unless to comment that it worked for you. I have moved you to your own thread.
What version of Windows are you running? You posted in the XP Forum, but your profile says Windows 7?
What part is ugly? This shouldn't be an issue with Windows 7. You can choose to not download the update in Windows Update and put a check in Do Not Remind Me of this Update.

I've updated and selected updates in this window before, suddenly I can't see any updates there at all. WU tells me there's 33 optional updates available, when I click and the window to select those and install them appears I can't see any of them. =/ Check the attachment to see what I'm talking about. I've changed setting in Windows Update to see if that was the cause of the problem but it didn't help. Important updates (when I had them) weren't showing either... Help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am trying Windows 7 professional 64bit is trying to update my PC now for the umpteenth time. I ask it to download and update. It tells me that it has updated and needs to restart. When it restarts, it has a couple of attempts at configuring the updates and lets me use Windows. When I turn my PC off, I get a 'Do not turn off, etc'. When I start my PC and check to see if the install worked, I am told it hasn't, any clues please?

Answer:Windows 7 updates don't update

I have been through this today and fixed mine.
There are ways MS suggests when you right click on the failed updates and read the help files that contain links to MS downloadable tools of sorts.
After reading about and trying some of the tools with no success I took a hint I read between the lines about running the one with "service pack" in its name alone. I had 10 updates available one of which had service pack in its title. It was "Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243)"

I ran it alone and it took. Remaining were 4 security and 4 updates for windows and an IE9 update.

I then tried the 4 updates for windows alone and they failed.

Long story short, I tried some alone until they started working and got them all in.
Look at my screen shot and see the order in which I used. The order goes from the bottom up. The Hot Fix you see is one of MS's suggestions I tried that changed nothing.

As long as this is not every time eh?

hi HussinBhy,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

With Windows 8 there was a certain service that has to be disabled "Nalperion Service" then proceed with the updates manually by 4 or by 5 updates only

If Windows 7, You just have to make sure your Antivirus is not blocking anything by disabling them temporarily
and most of all Try installing it by 4 or by 5 updates only, as it may be overlapping some updates if you will install everything at same time.

Best Regards

I have even tried downloading them and then install and they still fail...

You said they do not download OR fail but then you said they failed, which is it?

Make sure you have restarted your computer since then. Try updating ONLY important updates, possibly selecting a few at a time to download and update. Let me know if it still fails. Restart>select some updates (important ones first, then slowly working your way to other updates you want to have installed)>installl>restart again. If it works keep doing this method

These two things likely don't have an effect on the updates, but try them anyway:

1. Do you know if you have all your drivers currently updated?

2. Has windows been activated yet?

Been 2 days already looking for a solution...

I formatted my PC (Win 7 64bit) and I havent installed anything on it yet because I wanted to fully updated it so I could get Win 10. Sadly it is now working out for me.... Windows Update at first finds 20 updates (installs the drivers and stuff), After installing those, it finds one update (Service Pack 1)... aaand after that update it seems that the Windows update stays in " Checking for updates" forever...

Im not a tech savvy but I find something suspicious in my Windowsupdate log

Hello,

I just installed Win7 on my Asus K95VJ laptop and Windows Update is not working. I tried the troubleshooting from Microsoft "Windows Update Cannot Check For Updates" error message when you try to install updates but without any luck.
If I select from that webpage to automatically fix my problem, I get the results from my Untitled2.jpg printscreen.
When I go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, the 3 services that are required for Windows Update to work appear with status Started, but not Running. See my Untitled.jpg printscreen. I tried restarting them without any luck.
I don't know what to do anymore and I don't understand why it's not working... please help me out.

Answer:Windows Update cannot currently check for updates...

Well, this is awkward, but I fixed it I found the solution somewhere else. I had to go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs and delete edb.log (it's a .txt file), then restart the computer. For I don't know what stupid reason, that edb file was corrupt and prevent Windows Update from running. Deleting it made Windows replace it with a brand new one and fixed my problem.

I noticed last night that Windows Update had 55 updates to download. Upon further inspection, it said updates were last downloaded sometime in November.

I have run the Windows Update Troubleshooting; it resolved some items, but not others (forgot to take a screenshot). Now Windows Update says I have never even checked for updates.

Following the advice on other threads, I selected only 2 of the updates, then let it run overnight. I woke up this morning to ZERO percent complete. Ugh.

I'm able to view pages on Internet Explorer and Chrome without issue, and MalwareBytes was able to update just fine. What next?

I need to work around Windows Update because it fails more often than it succeeds on one of my systems. Does anyone know how to find out what updates are available without using Settings\Updates & Security so I can download them directly from the Windows Update Catalogue?

Hi everyone,

Hope you guys won't mind helping me with this issue. I have Windows Vista 32 bit Home Edition.

I recently noticed that it's been 2 weeks since my laptop scheduled an auto installation of windows updates on Sundays so I decided to check if any new ones were available. When I clicked on Check For Updates, I received the following message:

"Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."

I restarted but nothing changed. I also went into the settings and selected never update, applied, then exited, then went back and re-selected auto update and install and applied but again, the same result.

I have no idea how to restart or reset the windows update so it will work.

I would really appreciate if you could please help me correct this problem.

Thank you for your time and looking forward to your replies.
Best regards!

hi guys

It seems that I am missing at least one important security update for Windows 8 pro. I checked with my friend and he said he had a security update that I didn't have. He has windows 8 too. I waited for a few days and my windows update still hasn't received it. Here's the last couple of updates i have received and installed successfully:

Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB2690729)
Microsoft Silverlight (KB2668562)
Marvell - LAN - Marvell Yukon 88E8071 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
LSI - Network - LSI PCI-SV92PP Soft Modem
Security Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2753842)

the first one for Microsoft Silverlight was installed the 28th of this month. and the last one the security update for windows 8 was installed the 20th of this month. i'm worried about all this cause i thought these windows updates were installed more timely than this especially since Windows 8 is still relatively new. Can someone offer any advice?

thanks in advice.

Hi,
I am attempting to update a new install of Windows Vista that is currently at SP1.
Initially, attempts to run the update failed with error code 80080005, but I got by that with the help of a post on this forum. The advice there was to change the settings to never update, exit Update, re-enter it and and set it back to update automatically. That worked fine.
Now, however, when I open Windows Update and click on Check for updates, the screen flashes immediately and no update are found. I don't even think it's checking.
Any help with this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Answer:Windows update not checking for updates

I should have mentioned that both "Most recent check for updates" and "Updates were installed" are both set to "Never".

I've been dealing with this for about two weeks. There was another thread on here dealing with the same topic (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic473547.html). I tried everything that was suggested in there, but none of it worked.

I'm running: Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit, Service Pack 1, 4 GB RAM, Intel Core i3 2.30 GHz.

This computer is about two months old. I'm at my wits end.

Hello!
I've got a Windows 7 fresh installation, and the first thing I did was to try to update my windows. The problem is that windows keeps checking for updates without coming up with any results (and I did wait a lot).

I had to change my HDD, because the previous one failed altogether. I wouldn't see why there could be any compatibility issues. I have a HP Pavilion dv5-1141en and the hdd inside is a 500GB Seagate. The previous one was a 320GB WD.

I tried resetting my windows update components (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058), but it didn't work.

I really have no idea where to go from here. It's weird, given that the installation is new.

Appreciate any suggestions,

Thank you!
