SFC Corrupt Issue Regarding OpenCl.dll

Question: SFC Corrupt Issue Regarding OpenCl.dll

Hi guys.

I am hoping you can help me as i don't wish to do a full reinstall. Spoke to Microsoft who couldn't help. I have looked through the excellent tutorial posted on here with regards to SFC issues but i'm unsure if i am doing something incorrect as, the ISO i got from Microsoft website, has an install file with a .wmd extension.

I am on the following build:

When i run SFC i get corrupted files could not be repaired message:

I have saved the log of the above scan which i have attached. Please forgive me for the possibly dumb question but do i know download the 1511 iso? DISM is saying source files not found.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the Tutorial steps don't seem to fix the problem unless its me which most likely is!

Apologies and thank you

Preferred Solution: SFC Corrupt Issue Regarding OpenCl.dll

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: SFC Corrupt Issue Regarding OpenCl.dll

You need to supply more details of your computer, specifically if you have a Nvidea graphics card (there are some issues with that)

you can check the version you have as described here DISM - Repair Windows 10 Image - Page 13 - Windows 10 Forums

I have Win 10 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Vostro 3460 with Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM and Crucial 1TB SSD. All Dell diagnostics pass, Windows fully updated.
About 2 weeks ago (April 2016), the Windows Update for Version 1511 finally arrived and it is now at Build 10586.218
A few days (2 or 3) before that, IE 11 and Edge started to misbehave. It's possible that some final pre-upgrade-to-1511 upgrade did this - it is equally possible just a co-incidence.
The symptoms are that IE11 will open up but the address bar does not get populated and after a few seconds, it just disappears again. Edge does similar. When this happens, I sometimes try Firefox but that takes a long time to start - at least it starts. Chrome usually starts within a short time. There is no sure way to get IE and Edge back again. Rebooting sometimes does it. Usuallly, I have to use Turn Windows Features on and off to turn IE 11 off then on again (which given a restart is needed both times is timeconsuming).
I have tried clearing caches, Inetcpl.cpl, in place repair of Windows 10 and sfc /scannow. scannow blames a corrupt opencl.dll according to http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/sfc-scannow-report-opencldll-bad/4209b042-1b7b-4fa2-a720-2c0e489d137b?page=5 which - if that thread is to be believed is something to do with Windows not treating the NVidia driver correctly or vice versa.

Question: OpenCL

I have both an Intel HD 4600 GPU (Core i7 4790k CPU), and Radeon R9 285 card in my desktop. Anyways, since the HD is pretty much unused I decided to enable it in UEFI settings for the purpose of running OpenCL stuff on it.

Anyways I'm looking for software that can take advantage of OpenCL.

Answer:OpenCL

It hasn't really taken off kind of like WiDi. Good luck finding anything worthwhile that uses it.

Just bought this new i7 z510. Downloaded and tried to run this program called resolve lite for video. Install the program and open it, it says NO Open CL acceleration hardware found.  What the hell does one need to buy a new dam laptop if it doesn't even have up to date things like open cl in it.   If someone knows how to instal a program that fakes open cl or something so I can run resolve please tell me. Thanks.

Ok so I was trying to open a Model_Source file in Unity with Blender and I was getting "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) and I spent hours trying all these different solutions and I think I have tracked it down to a corrupted file. Question: Missing OpenCL.dll

Hi All,
So, I upgraded to Windows 10 a day back using the media creation tool, and the install went fine. After I restarted the PC for the first time, I got an error saying that OpenCL.dll is missing. I searched online forums and it said that it might be due a problem with your graphic drivers. So, I updated the driver with Device Manager, but it said that the driver is upto date. I still get the problem after every restart.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Answer:Missing OpenCL.dll

Could you look and let us know what driver version you are using please? (quick way to look- right click on your desktop, click nvidia control panel, then in the bottom left corner of the dialogue box that opens hit system properties)
In case you are unsure, the box looks like this:

hey guys long time lurker here, usually i find solutions on my problem but this time around, i have no idea what to do!

Short story: ran sfc /scannow and got the message "found corrupt files but cannot repair," specifically regarding Opencl.dll. Can i fix this w/o doing a reset?

Long Story (in outline form):
- got a new SSD
-with my old HDD still in place(with w7) installed w10 thru usb in the SSD
-It worked, and thru the desktop i transferred files from my old HDD to the SSD
-tried to format the HDD thru my computer, did not work, got some error
-proceeded to format the hdd through w10 installation usb - worked
-changed the boot order so SSD load first
-got an error saying no OS is found
-plugged in w10 usb and did "repair my computer" - worked
-able to access desktop, play games, etc.
-decided to run sfc /scannow to be sure, and got that error
-did a disk cleanup and then ran sfc again, still the same

also i have attached the log that i got from the sfc

Answer:Opencl.dll on sfc /scannow

Perhaps not, even if you were to do a clean install at this point - see here: SFC some corrupt files can not be fixed

Normally, folks would advise that the next step is using DISM to repair this problem but, if you check the thread I linked above, you may decide you don't want to reinvent the wheel.

I want to do some opencl development on my Alienware 15 r2  nvidia gtx956m gpu).  Nvidia provides developer drivers sdk's (3.6.4.72-notebook ) but provides a warning that not all OEMs support these. Does Alienware support the nvidia drivers? If not, what is the recommended way to install cuda/opencl + developer drivers so I can do opencl development in visual studio?

Today nvidia realeased a beta drivers to fix that issue...

Hello! I work and study in CAE/mathematical modeling field. Now I'm trying to use OpenCL on my laptop. According to all the utilities I've tried I have no OpenCL support, although I know that it should have, at least early versions. E.g. FurMark didn't even recognize my dicrete card. It simply stated that I only have the Intel HD Graphics.GPU Shark says the same.GPU-Z tells me that I have both, but no OpenCL support on either of the devices. At first I could't even start a simple example in OpenCL, because the "Getting started guides usually suggest to look for a cl.h header in your $(AMDAPPSDKROOT) folder". I have that environment variable set to an existing folder, but it contains no libs, headers or anything close to it.I've installed Intel SDK for OpenCL to check the available devices through OpenCL API. It says I can use only CPU. Hardware: AMD Ati Radeon HD 7670m; Intel HD Graphics 4000; Intel Core i5 CPU;BIOS info: InsydeH20 Setup Utility Rev. 3.7; f.12;The device manager recognizes both devices correctly (from the first glance). According to it both devices' drivers are 8.982.10.6000 from AMD.I have been studying this problem for a couple of days already and found only two direct statements that it IS possible to use OpenCL on my Radeon card:https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html (Call me Mr. BrightSide, but I assume they should have tested it)andhttps://community.amd.com/thread/162244The reasons ... A programming language: https://www.khronos.org/opencl/

OpenCL defines an application programming interface (API) that allows programs running on the host to launch kernels on the compute devices and manage device memory, which is (at least conceptually) separate from host memory. Programs in the OpenCL language are intended to be compiled at run-time, so that OpenCL-using applications are portable between implementations for various host devices.[12

OpenCL: Parallel programmers' new best friend.

If you are interested at all in multi-core programming, this tool (Open Computing Language) could become the standard for years to come in "what may be the best solution so far to the general problem of parallel programming." It does both task-level and data-level parallelism (aka SIMD) and some parallel-programming languages can't do the latter.

Answer:OpenCL: Parallel programmers' new best friend

Some of the parallel processing examples are best described as *way cool* (I don't drag out such language for the average stuff ).

Don't know what Nvidea's plan is with both CUDA and OpenCL support. As both do broadly the same thing why are they pushing their solution so hard? Anyone know any good tutorials for OpenCL (or CUDA for that matter, but there's more out there).

It'd be a shame to write two programs for two different machines.

Nvidia Mulls Over Porting PhysX to OpenCL - X-bit labs

"Nvidia May Allow GPU PhysX to Work on ATI Hardware

Nvidia Corp. said that it could eventually port computing of physics effects created using PhysX middleware to OpenCL application programming interface (API) and capable hardware. This may actually enable acceleration of physics effects processing on graphics chips to work on ATI Radeon hardware.

At present PhysX middle-ware is used to make physics effects on various platforms, including video game consoles and personal computers. In virtually all the cases processing of physics effects is performed on the central processing units ? x86 chips in case of PC, Cell in case of PlayStation 3 or PowerPC in case of Xbox 360 ? however, there are handful of games that can take advantage of physics computing on Nvidia GeForce graphics processing units (GPUs) that support CUDA technology. The latter is virtually Nvidia?s proprietary API and is naturally not supported by chips developed by ATI, graphics business unit of Advanced Micro Devices. Due to such limitations not a lot of game developers are implementing GPU PhysX and enabling acceleration using DirectCompute or OpenCL is one of the best ways to popularize processing of physics effects on graphics processors.

?In the future it is a possibility that we could use OpenCL, but at the moment CUDA works great. [Our GPU] architecture allows for acceleration by other things like OpenCL. Nvidia works very closely wit... Read more

I made inf file for g210m on toshiba u500 for 195.81 beta driver.
Just download driver and add it to unpacked directory where are other infs and install.

Now you can use OpenCL, CUDA, DirectCompute, Physx (enable it in CP) and nVidia GPU Acceleration for Adobe Flash Player (install new 10.1 beta 2 flash player by adobe)

This inf is optimized for DEV_0A74&SUBSYS_FF401179 g210m.
If you want me to add more devices please post what devices you want and i will but you will have to test it.

Hope this helps.

Answer:Satellite U500 - INF file with OpenCL, CUDA for Nvidia driver

Thanks for that but usually it?s advisable to use the Toshiba graphic card driver due to the GPU overheating protection.
Other drivers don?t support such protection and the usage of such drivers can cause an higher temperature which could affect the GPU chip?.

Homebuilt desktop - Windows 7 64bit Ultimate, Asus Sabretooth Z77, Samsung EVO 850, 1TB, WD Blue 1TB,  Seagate 1TB . Last time I used the machine it worked perfectly.  Added the EVO about a year ago and used Acronis to clone the WD onto the EVO.  Created a Macrium rescue disc and a Win 7 recovery disc.  Re-imaged the WD to use for video editing an digitization for music. Cloned the Seagate from the EVO as it was the oldest drive and most likely to fail - just kept for emergency boot if necessary.  Booted the machine from both drives (all others disconnected) and each came up fine.  Been using it for a year like this with no problems. Had been turned off for two weeks due to travel.

First clue when I pushed the power button today - nothing happened.  Unplugged the AC for 30 seconds, plugged it back in and boot sequence started but went right to setup screen (low CPU fan speed but it was about 65 degrees in the room).  We did have a power loss for about 2 hours during that time period.  Everything recognized, pressed F10, save and immediately received the prompt to repair windows.  Macrium, Win 7 recovery, and original MS install disc all say recovery succeeded but after each boot, no OS found.  Re-boot to command prompt with recovery disc and bootrec /scanos shows no OS.  Same story with the Seagate.

This actually started a couple weeks ago. After numerous troubleshooting methods, I just did system restore and issue was gone. now it is starting again. I keep getting BSOD with various error message such as DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_OR_LESS_EQUAL, MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, and some others. All of which are a similar, if not the same problem.

First thing I did was run the sfc tool, since it is one of the few things I know how to do as far as corrupted files goes. I get the message back that it found corrupted files but it was unable to fix some of them. from what I read, this is most likely a driver issue, so I uninstalled my video driver and then reinstalled it (i said it was already updated) and that didn't seem to work. I did do a system restore which is working for now but I now I still have issues. the sfc scan still shows corrupted files. I am at a loss when looking at the CBS log to find a manual solution. I am not sure what else is needed, or what type of files I need to upload for better assistance, but let me know and I get upload/post them

Please Assist if possible...

I have made some changes in the registry. I have added an autokillvalue key through making a notepad file and merging it. I have also enabled maximum Ram for start-up (in Msconfig). I then updated windows with about 10 normal updates and 1 optional then restarted the laptop. On starting up, 'Bad system config' message is displayed and windows is therefore unable to start.

Windows now does not start. It instead goes through to system repair and unsuprisingly that does not work neither does lasy known working config, safe mode or system restore. I have also ran a memory test.

In startup repair, the problem details are below:

Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16.385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1 7600.16.385
Problem Signature 03: unknown
Problem Signature 04: 21200359
Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
Problem Signature 06: 12
Problem Signature 07: Corrupt Registry
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

I am quite sure this is due to my fiddling with the registry. Whilst I am confident it isnt the changes I made per se, I think it is to do with the merge to the registry I made. I wondered if using reg.exe to remove autokillservice might work but don't know the command line and don't want to try this as I dont have a clue about reg.exe.

Thanks!

Answer:Corrupt Registry Issue

Do the followingUse the Advanced Boot Options menu to select Repair Your Computer.
That option will take you to the System Recovery Options where you can select System Restore. Use OPTION TWO of System Restore to restore your computer to an earlier time. Pay special attention to step 8. of OPTION ONE and the NOTE: for that step.

If that does not work, I would recommend carefully going through the steps in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot and seeing if you are able to get back into Windows...

Hi, I've had some issues with my display today where it began to flicker and display horizontal and vertical tracks. At one point it forced the monitor to sleep. Here are some images I took:

http://i1171.photobucket.com/albums/...n/P1000240.jpg

http://i1171.photobucket.com/albums/...n/P1000243.jpg

Having never come across this issue before I ran a 'dr web' virus scan in safe mode, with no major results other than a few adware programs. The drivers were fully updated at the time. The issue persisted after I restarted the system but hasn't happened since I've done a full power cycle.

Is this an error associated with my graphics driver? I've also restored defaults on my Nvidia control panel.

Many thanks.

Answer:Corrupt display issue

Edit: It's still persisting and now its completely unusable. I believe the graphics card has burnt out, although I have no idea how it might of done so. The graphics card is 'NVidia Geforce 8800GT' In addition to this, I never recall the temperature of the card to be too high

Any suggestions? This is a nightmare :(
Thanks again.

Answer:MBR corrupt - malware or HW issue?

Could be the MBR and you can rebuild that , but have you tried the Seagate Drive that you cloned from the EVO ?
It may be the EVO Drive , But try the Seagate first , if it Boots then start looking at the  EVO for issues.

I had the same issue with iTunes but running Font Agent pro 4 seemed to fix that, but it hasn't helped on websites. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Hello all

Lately, on startup, I've sometimes been getting the error that netprofm.dll "is not compatible with windows." At the same time, I can no longer do Windows updates. It just gets stuck on the configuration screen when I go into windows update manually and doesn't do any updates on start up either. Full system scan with Norton (paid version) doesn't bring up anything, cccleaner found issues in the registry but those were all fixed, according to the paid trial. sfc /scannow wasn't able to fix it

This isn't an extremely big issue that needs fixing immediately, since my pc still works fine in all areas apart from being able to update Windows. I'd like to get it up to date so I can reserve Windows 10. Laptop does not have this issue and already has one reserved. I have no access to a Windows install disc in case anyone is going to propose this as a fix. I didn't get any when I bought this pc 2 years ago (Acer Predator G3620). Windows is a legit version though I wish they'd have given me a disc.

Any ideas are appreciated and thank you for your time.

Hi everyone.

My friend has a BSOD problem on his Win XP desktop that I am trying to get fixed without a Windows XP cd, if possible.

I am thinking that likely it is due to corrupted files or registry. Oftentimes the BSOD error message will mention "winsys32" which I know in and of itself is not a malware or any such.

I've been told to try a repair/reload of all Win files using an XP CD, and if that fails, to wipe the HD and just do a reinstall. Problem is, we don't have any access to an XP CD, and it's a bit of a challenge to try to get one.

Is there any way to fix the issue without the win CD?

Hope I included everything you need to answer the question but if not, let me know and I will try to supply whatever info you need in order to answer.

Computer is a Dell Optiplex GX260 from 2002. Win XP 32 bit.

Thanks,
Brook

Answer:BSOD issue; likely corrupt Win/registry; how to fix without using Win CD?

If winsys32.exe is in C:\Windows\System32\drivers it has a good chance of being malware.

If the computer has any restore points, you can try to do a partial system restore that may help. See the steps required here.

My problem in XP SP2 is compressed EXE's. For example Windows Media Player 10...when I try to execute the file I get this-

The installation program appears to be damaged or corrupted Please contact the vendor

IF I right click and choose EXTRACT or use a third party archiver, the files extract fine and install without error.
BUT double clicking or thru scripts no EXE that is an archive works - they all give me the error
All that I've tested used WEXTRACT.EXE which I've replaced with the DLLCACHE copy but its a much newer file than on the XP CD so I cant really say that its good.
Also as far as I can tell this issue occurs whether the installer is the Windows Installer(MSI) or Setup/Update etc
Stumped...

Answer:Install/cabinet/archive Corrupt Issue

I'd suspect that it was not the copy of WEXTRACT.EXE that's corrupted, but rather one of the associated files that go with it. I'd suggest running SFC.EXE /SCANNOW from the Run dialog ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/43051/how-to-use-sfcexe-to-repair-system-files/ ). If that doesn't fix it, then I'd go with a repair install of XP: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Hi all...my first post and a complete head scratcher...

I have an HP Compaq 8510p Laptop (T7700 2.4Ghz Dual Core, 4MB Ram, with dedicated HD2600 graphic cards. running Windows 7 Pro x64)

When I hover over any of my menu bar icons (e.g. Internet Explorer) the text buble (or Alt-text as it actually is I think) says what I am hovering over in a cream popup.
However, when I hover over the Windows "Logo/Start" icon, the Alt-text is corrupt, so much that you cannot read it at all. All other hovers are perfect as expected i.e. over the system icons etc.

I have also noticed it in MS Office in all applications (I have Office 2007 Pro installed) and in every ribbon, all icon hovers work as they should except when I open the list of font sizes from the drop-down list of values. All Font sizes are displayed in a corrupted/broken fashion, again I cannot read them.

Although I suspect it may be something to do with my ATI graphics driver, I do have the latest version installed.

As said it seems to be localised to those areas and does not seem to be getting worse or better. Totally annoying.
I have used other applications and all seems perfect, including Acrobat, COD Black Ops, Minecraft and Chrome etc.

Therefore I'm completely baffled. Any ideas/suggestions or previous experiences?

Thanks in advance.
Tink

Welcome to TenForums @daem0n

The image at Index 1 is for Enterprise, but Winver says you have Pro installed. You should be using the image for Pro. Type the command...
dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:E:\sources\install.wim
...which will tell you the index number of all images in your .wim. If you have Pro in your .wim, use its index number in place of '1' in your ...sources\install.wim:1 command.

If you do not have an image for Pro you'll need to download one. Now that 15063 is the current one offered by Microsoft you may need to use the third-party Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool to find the 14393 .iso on Microsoft's download servers.

Hey everyone! As much as I hate to, I am going to have to give you a brief story simply because I am not entirely sure what my issue is:In an attempt to play Dying Light, I realized I had a corrupt dll. When I run Dying Light I am immediately confronted with "Bad Image:"Code: [Select]C:\...\DSOUND.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Hello. I am new to posting but hope you can help me! I have an issue with my HP laptop which has a Windows 7, 64 bit operating system. It is a 250GB system that is pretty much maxed. It was accidentally disconnected from power causing shut down. When rebooting, it started scrolling something to the effect of fixing corrupt files or retrieving lost files, can't remember what it said exactly. In the midst of that, it accidentally was shut down again. (It has no battery so if the power cord is bumped loose, it shuts down.) I restarted it and it went to Startup repair. It ran for several hours and thinking maybe it had locked up, I rebooted it. This time I watched the screen and it gave two options, I think they were start normal or Startup repair. I tried the first option twice and it just came back to the same screen so chose Startup repair. Again it ran, and this time I paid more attention. The blue box keeps scrolling across as if it is working and I can see flickering in the hard drive light as if it is working, however, it has been running like that for 3 or 4 days now. Foolishly, I did not back up this system so I stand to lose a lot if I cannot fix this issue. Should I continue to let Startup repair run or will it never end? Any help appreciated!!

Answer:Corrupt System...startup Repair Issue

I think cutting power twice and then rebooting before it finished probably scrambled so many files it doesn't know what to do.

Hook the drive up by USB adapter to a working computer and grab your files.
Then put the drive back into the HP laptop.

If you have a Win 7 repair disk which can be created inside Windows 7, use that and see if it will work.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/create-a-system-repair-disc

If you never created the disk, find a friend with a 64 bit version of Win 7 and have him/her create the disk for you.

A few days ago My T450s have developed a display issue, as shown in the videos below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYZ-TWDsNJohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRREUYBpzPo I took the second video from BIOS just to show that it's not only related to Windows, so I don't think it's a driver issue. I have always had a second monitor connected to the laptop and that's working fine, so I think the display unit in the CPU is working fine, there must be something wrong with the display itself in the laptop.  Any help before I contact the customer service?

Hi All,

My XP computer has repeatedly reported "minor inconsistencies on the C drive" every time that I run a Check Disk (as per the illustration below) -

Is the issue that I am seeing specific to a damaged hard drive (e.g.: bad sectors), or a corrupt Windows installation?

Any advice here will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

David

Answer:Is my disk issue a bad sector or a corrupt Windows installation?

If the hard drive is getting old and having problems it might be a good idea to replace it before it goes completely. anything you dont want to lose should be saved to a cd/dvd or an external hard drive so it isnt lost forever.if theres any bad sectors in a hard drive its just a matter of time before they all go bad. you cant fix a hard drive just replace it.

It seems as if my problem is pretty common here, but I havent seen much about Windows 2000.
I'm running Windows 2000 Professional, and encounter the problem: "The file hal.dll is missing, please replace it or reinstall it". That shows up when i try to boot it up.

Thank God I sttill have this harddrive with an OS on it. I tried using a certain program, and it crashed, which resulted in a file thats missing or courrupted (as it says on the win2k bootup).
When restarted, it looks like its about to load windows 2000, then it stops and says " The file Hal.dll is missing or corrupted, ,please reinstall to replace it" .
I wanted to go to safe mode, but it wont load because of that corrupted file.

I hooked this HD up as Primary IDE (im using right now) and hooked the HD that im trying to fix, as Secondary IDE. So then I triied to copy that file from this existing win2k that im currently using right now and replace it in the original harddrive but i couldnt cuz i cant even access it. My system dectects that the harddrive exists, but when clicked on it in Windows Explorer, it says "This harddrive is not formatted, would u like to format it now?"

This is very frustrating!! I dont want to reformat it cuz i got files in that harddrive that are important, even if i need to format it, at least i need to copy out my files first.. which i cant even do because it isnt accessable.

Good morning/afternoon/evening.

Will try to keep this as short as possible.

Have a Dell Dimension E510 desktop with a 150gb hdd I partitioned when the computer was purchased in 2007. C:\ was sized to approx 30gb, and D:\ was sized to approx 120gb. Now, onto my current problem(s):
10 days ago, my desktop presented the following after a reboot:

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM". This also coincided with a power supply failure shortly thereafter, which has been replaced.

After replacing the power supply, the above error would still display after reboot. I attempted/completed the following:

I was trying to use the removal tools in the Security Tools Removal Guide, when my computer went into a continual reboot cycle until there was no monitor, mouse, or hardware activity. I shut down holding the case switch. Reboot had nothing but some circuity lights on the mobo, fans, and a 3.5" floppy search. There is no monitor, keyboard, or mouse activity. Don't know if BIOS was posting, or stopped. I can't find a boot floppy for that system.

Note, I was not able to install Malewarebytes prior to "melt-down". Security Tool was active (activated).

The guide does not indicate the above problem in the behavior traits; and, I am unable to find similar on web and this forum searches.

Have I got a combination hardware/malware problem?

I have started and processed most hardware tests on another machine. Graphics, memory sticks, and OS HDD work (Loaded all the cleanup tools, ran two antimalware programs--Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D--and cleared the found rogue files those programs identified). A new CR2032 battery was installed and son reset the CMOS. What remains to be tested are mobo, and Intel Core2 chip. The system is passive cooling and the Ninja processor cooling tower is a bear to deal with.

Before I dig into those remaining devices (I'm not a Geek, just very poor right now) I was hoping you could confirm/advise whether this is a malware or hardware problem?

Thanks,

PSU seems OK; various parts are getting juice.

No prior malware scanners were installed. Firewall is MS default.

I was out of town for a week and came back to my computer off and unable to boot back up. I've been able to get this much information:

"the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM" and, using the CHKDSK command reports at 25% completed that "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable..."

Using the original XP installation disk, I've tried to use the Recovery Console. I only get as far as the screen asking which windows installation I want to use. Initially I had two HDDs and thought the issue might be there, but even disconnecting the other so that there is only one option to select, I'm not able to get past this prompt.

I type "1" (for the 1 installation detected), press enter, and ever hours later nothing has happened.

Trying to use this HDD as an external drive to just recover software or see if the bad file (assuming it's the only one) can be replaced, the drive is seen as unformated.

Any suggestions to try would be greatly appreciated.

working on my motherinlaw's dell inspiron. won't boot. comes up with "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\windows\system32\c_437.nls
you can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD_ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

i've tried going into safe mode and all of the f8 options, with no success. have also tried an external drive and the internal drive reinstalling windows, also no joy. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry, but I do not understand what you mean by the above.

If you were to google "c_437.nls", you would come up with a number of entries, all pretty much reporting the same fix using an XP installation CD, namely:

copy (your cd drive)\I386\C_437.NLS c:\windows\system32

I include a link to one such site:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic86668.html

The following link suggests a couple of other options for you to try if you wish:

http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t93949.html

I do not know whether the file is a different version depending on the Service Pack level of the system and the CD that you use, so perhaps once you get the system up and running again, you may wish to check this out/replace the file with one from the ServicePackFiles. I think that it would not matter that the CD you use is not the one used to initially set up the Dell Inspiron.

As the title says, the start menu wasn't opening so I ran SFC /scannow that found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. I then ran RestoreHealth but I got a message saying, "Source file cannot be found". I restart, Start Menu works again but still have corrupt files after an SFC scan. I recently did a clean install of Windows 10 after some non-related issues. CBS log is attached. I'm having trouble determining the problem from the log file. Any help is appreciated.

i have a 3 year old gateway laptop running windows vista. a few days ago it crashed. some of the OS files became corrupt and when i tried to restart it would get to the "starting windows" screen and never load. windows wouldn't even load in safe mode.

i bought a new HP PC running windows 7 a few weeks ago. i bought an adapter to import data from the laptop's hard drive onto the PC. when i plugged it in, the PC couldn't even read the drive. it knew it was there, but thought that it needed formatted. i found a program that reads hard drives by sector and was able to start the import. halfway through the import my new PC crashed in the exact same way as the laptop. it froze and when i tried to restart, i couldn't get windows to load. this was the day after the laptop crashed.

2 days later when i turned on my Wii, i got a message that said something like "system files are corrupt, see owners manual for details". after restating the wii it seems to be okay.

i've lived in my apartment for 3 years and nothing has changed recently. i've never had this happen before even once. so i don't know what would make operating systems on 3 separate devices within only a few days.

unless someone is breaking in while i'm at work and dragging an electromagnet around my apartment while i'm at work, i'm stumped.

Answer:strange issue with corrupt hard drive data on multiople computers

Hi mastergorilla and welcome to TCG,

Hmm, did you think that there may be a VERY nasty virus on the laptop (like a rootkit), some of these can be VERY hard for the "average" AV program to detect / deal with.
There are a number of things that you could try:

1) Put the laptop HD in the dock that you bought, try to scan the harddrive with an online scanner like TRENDS's housecall.
2) Try scanning the laptop HD with a GOOD AV (like NOD32, SOPHOS), these "should" pick anything up, also try MALWAREBYTES.
3) If you can't get the drive to be recognised so that you can scan it, have you backed up the data ? If so, I would do a FULL FORMAT, and THEN scan for virus'.
4) To recover your windows install, have you tried a "repair windows instal" using the Windows CD, this can repair essential windows files and leave your windows instal intact ?

Let me know.

Hi guys. I'm a Computer Science student and I do computer repair in my spare time.

I've run into a problem and I'm stumped. Maybe one of you guys will be able to figure this out.

A client came to me with a laptop that has a strange issue. He's been using Vista Service Pack 1 and IE7 and when he downloads any kind of binary file, after the download completes, it tells him the download is corrupt. IE won't allow any ActiveX controls to be downloaded, even after you allow a control to run. It fails silently, with no error message.

First thing I did was clear out the temp files, update him to IE8 and point him towards Firefox. Firefox will download files, but certain files (such as a manual download of the ActiveX control I was looking for) still refuse to run, stating the file is corrupt. I downloaded the file (which is used for Facebook.com's photo album creation) from a different source, and still no go. And this was attempted with both the updated IE8 and Firefox 3.5

OK, so maybe it's bad RAM? I did an extensive test of his RAM and came back with no errors. I scanned his hard drive, (nothing but a few orphaned files), defragmented his drive (was only at 2%), scanned for viruses and malware (finding 4 fairly common malware files), ran SFC scan, scanned and error-checked the registry, uninstalled his out-of-date McAffee that had run out of its subscription, and installed AVG.

AVG refuses to download updates. And this is on my own wired ne... Read more

Microsoft

We are having an issue printing from our EHR medical program since a forced update that our support department at EMR says is coming from a overly aggressive Windows Security Update.
See attached.  We were instructed to uninstall the update but it continues to reinstall when restarting each computer. We have about 13 computers and 8 Microsoft surface tablets.   All computers are running various versions of Windows
8.1 to 10.  You cannot stop the updates from occurring.  Is there a fix because this is seriously affecting our work daily.

From my EHR  tech:

Uninstalling the update fixed the issue.  I would de-select this update on all machines as you apply the latest round.

I am letting development know... I am not sure if they will fix or if Microsoft may release an update to the update first.

Hello,

I have a big one and its confusing the life out of me.

About two weeks ago my Itunes said my ipod was corrupted and needs to be restored and then it does so and says it is still corrupted upon rebooting the Ipod... this cycle can go on forever. I also noticed that my disc drive will spin a disc but when I open it in My Computer it simply shows it as empty. Upon system boot into Windows a Nero message box would say something about some problems with Upper or Lower Drives or something like that so I uninstalled Nero completely.

I uninstalled everything to do with apple and itunes/ipod as well with a 3rd party uninstaller and tried cleaning out my Registry of all left overs.

Antivirus scans show nothing

Upon reinstalling itunes - still had my playlists and songs... meaning it did not fully uninstall. great. Also same problem with the ipod. What makes me think this is a problem with my PC and not apple software/ipod is that the ipod is only seen as a removable disk in My Computer, normally it identifies as IPOD.

I restored my pc to a date way before the problems started. nothing changed.

I tried to do a repair install of windows but it said it was missing some files like framdit.ttf which is a font so i said to skip but then it said it was missing fs.rec.sys so i didn't go any further bcuz that sounded serious. (althought this might be because i have tinyxp installed so it doesn't have a lot of the files)

Hello all
This all really started about 3 days ago with the download of East India Company off the Gamestop site. After installing the game, I tried launching it and received the message "MSVCP90.DLL is missing from the computer. Try reinstalling." Reinstall did nothing. Ran CHKDSK and it seemed to repair some files. After researching a bit found the suggestion to run SFC /scannow from an elevated command prompt. It said it found corrupt files but was unable to repair all of them (SFC details report attached).
I CAN run Witcher and a couple other games without the missing DLL message popping up although another program (MSI easy viewer) did receive the same message upon start up attempt.
I don't have a WIN7 disc because, of course, MSI did not provide one with this laptop. Hooray! Now I probably have to buy another copy of the software I already paid for! Awesome! I have a MSI recovery disc but I think the only options they provide is to wipe out the system and start over. I'm just about ready to try that.
System specs:
MSI A6000 laptop (2 yrs old)
WIN7 Home Premium SP1
Pentium Dual core T4500 @2.30GHz

So I started getting these blue screens and restarts until my laptop doesn't even boot anymore. I have a lenovo thinkpad carbon x1. I ran a memtest and got couple of thousand errors, so I thought the memory is the issue. I call lenovo technical support and the guy tells me that I have corrupt motherboard drivers and software issues, wants me to pay $250 so they can fix it. This is all when he only had my serial number and nothing more. I was not connected to internet, obviously. He claims that he can fix my computer from distance, no need to send them my laptop. So how did he even figured out what's wrong with my laptop? Why he ignores the memtest? How is able to fix my laptop when I am not connected to internet? It's fishy!

I've been using the free Cobian Backup for about a year, with no problems. My backup procedure is to make full backups every 2 weeks, with daily incremental backups.

My 400GB external HDD is beginning to fill up. I need to remove some of the older full backups. Of course, the problem is that an older file may be non-corrupt, whereas a newer "copy" of the same file may have become corrupt.

I recently found another free tool, "Duplicate Cleaner". This file searches for duplicate files that can be identical in name, time, MD5 or any selected combination of these. I'm planning to use Duplicate Cleaner to remove duplicate files from my HDD.

So here is my question.

Is it possible for a corrupt file to show the same MD5 hash as an identical non-corrupt file? Or does the corruption produce a different MD5?

If the hashes are the same, then of course there is a danger that Duplicate Cleaner (or any tool) could delete the non-corrupt file and leave the corrupt file.

(Note that this thread is related to "MD5", rather than "Software".)

Answer:Is MD5 identical for corrupt/non-corrupt files?

This is going to be a long winded, very experimental thread so here goes.
This is about 3 computers in question, I have 8.
One is an AMD athlon 2800+ 2.1Ghz with Inno3d 7600gs 512mb with 2gb ram.
The other 2 are Intel celeron (D) 3.46 ghz with 2gb 533mhz ram and 9400GT 1GB ram exactly the same pc's.
All running the same Windows XP PRO SP2.
I am trying to extract an RAR archive file using winrar on one computer with GTA San Andreas Ultimate 2008 from the OED.
This has worked before on this particular computer.
If you know who The OED is then you know what I mean.
Anyway, it works fine on the AMD and *one* of the Intels.
On one of the intels when I try and extract the archive, it says many files are corrupt.
Yet I have deleted all traces, and transfered again using a Toshiba flash drive.
And everytime I extract them it says they are corrupt.
remember this game has worked on this same computer before.
What is saying they are corrupt?
It works on the exact same pc in the next room.
I think my son has put some software on there which I have deleted.
Which may have put some hidden DRM type of virus that is trying to stop me using copied cracked programs.
It is not a firewall or anti virus problem I can assure you so do not even go there.Remember both PC's the same, identical, with everything.
Any ideas or questions?
Thankyou.

I have had immense trouble copying large, 8-10GB, files to external disk via USB 2. The file is validated by the originating program as OK on the internal source drive. On arrival at the destination the file is the same size but defined as corrupt by the originating program's validator. If it is possible for the file to corrupt on the journey, is it not possible that the file did not corrupt but the subsequent validation (of CRC?) over the same connection could be corrupt, since the file must be read back over that connection? The answer would seem logically to be yes! Therefore how can this be a reliable test?Does anybody know of a program that will copy a file and check the CRC as it does so and then ask for the block to be resent until it is error free and then continue with the rest?

Answer:Is a copied file corrupt or is the crc corrupt?

There is one further option you might want to consider, The external disk itself has a problem. You may want to error check this first.

Hi all,

This is my first time posting so I am hoping there are people really out there. I have a whole SLEW of pictures (.jpg) that seem to have been cut and pasted to my computer (rather than copy and save). Being a big dummy (I'm usually really good about the following till now) I failed to check to make sure the files were viewable and the source doesn't have anything recoverable. Hence I believe they were cut and pasted. They came from my cell's sd card. Now I get the standard cant read file type error. If I change the extension, it says its corrupt. The file has size but no details to the file ( dimensions, date, etc.) So I don't know if they are corrupt or just cant read it with the standards, Windows Photo Viewer, Editor, CS5, Pixillian, IrfanView. Nothing, fails to load or cant read it. I have copied like this from my phone a bunch of times. I am wondering if it has something to do with the header. I don't know how to edit that but I can learn if need be. Maybe a reader that can either fill in or read other base data to view would be cool. Right now, I am focusing on trying to find a way to recover and/or read these photos. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanx!

Hey, I recently put together a PC and I've been having problems with it since. When I initially built it, the specs were:

i7 920 2.67GHz
Asus p6t Motherboard
8gb RAM
500gb Sata II HD
ATI Radeon HD 3870x2 (the card with with 2 GPU's)
500W unbranded PSU
1 added 120m coolermaster fan

Shortly after I started using my PC there was a power surge that knocked the power supply out. I recently got a new power supply. A 650W Silverstone PSU that I thought was more than enough for this. The problem that would occur now is that the computer would restart during games and sometimes while processing/rendering videos in adobe premiere.

When I would enable the 'crossfire' option on my card (to enable both GPU's to work) the computer would no longer just 'restart' the entire screen would hang or the colours would go out of sync shortly after which I'd have to restart the computer. This having happened I assumed the problem was with the graphics card, not the new 650W silverstone I got. I upgraded to a newer card; Asus Nvidia Geforce GTX460 768mb. The specs are now as follows:

i7 920 2.67GHz
Asus p6t Motherboard
8gb RAM
500gb Sata II HD
Asus Nvidia Geforce GTX460 768mb
650W silverstone PSU
1 added 120m coolermaster fan

After upgrading, games like modern warfare 2 will restart in missions that has a lot of smoke, during a standard windows assessment process the computer will also restart.

Answer:PC restart during graphic-intensive tasks. PSU issue? GPU issue? Mobo issue?

You've got Asus motherboard, hence the first thing I'll look at considering the issues you are having, is at RAM settings/voltage in the board's BIOS, these should be exactly the same as on RAM packaging, but even that doesn't guarantee that it may not be the issue, so basically you'll need to fiddle around a bit with settings/voltage in case default specs doesn't work.

You may also consider stress testing your graphic card using OCCT (including vRam). Regards

Ok, I've checked a bunch of sites and seen people with similar issues, but none have exactly the same problems I'm having. I have Windows XP and frequently used ZoneAlarm, Spybot, Adaware and Spywareblaster. HJT did not solve this problem for me.

My computer:
freezes at the log in 80% of the time unless I login in safe mode
if I'm able to log in, safe mode or not, I get a RPC error that says the PC will shut down in 60 seconds 100% of the time
I cannot run/install antivirus because I get a "not a valid win32 application" message
cannot connect to wireless connection and shows error message when the wireless adapter loads (there's a spot for it next to the clock, but the icon's invisible)
sometimes reboots randomly without the win32 app message
sometimes goes to a black screen and then comes back, then showing a "system has recovered from a serious error, please tell Microsoft" message
shows a blue screen at startup saying win32/autocheck didn't work, then finishes startup through the login screen
cannot system restore because no restore points are visible before infection
So far, I've been able to keep the PC running in safe mode occasionally thanks to Run>shutdown -a. The disc drives weren't reading for awhile but I've gotten those to load again. Hi
I have a problem with a T7500 tower.
The unit doesn't pass the POST, bringing the solid light 1 and the 1-3-2 beeps code.  I guess I have the S8 code with the light:

It would seem to be a RAM memory issue.  If I remove the RAM in slot 1 and live the 2nd RAM in slot 2, it moves to light 1-3 issue with the same 1-3-2 beep code:
If I move the 2nd RAM in slot 1, I still have light 1-3 code and 1-3-2 beep code.
If I replace the 2nd RAM by the first RAM in slot 1, still 1-3 light code and 1-3-2 beep code.
If I place the 2 RAM in slot 2 and 3, I'm back to 1 light code and 1-3-2 beep code.
Using slot 1 & 3 gives the same light 1 code and 1-3-2 beep code.
Any use of slot 4, 5 or 6 brings the lights 1-3 solid on and 1-3-2 beep code which after reading the documentation seems normal (slot 1, 2 and 3 should be filled first).
However the unit will boot, pass the POST and BIOS if it is not used for few days.
I know that the BIOS is on version A16.
I've tried the Power Supply Diagnostic, which passed successful:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19628318

With all that I think it is hardware issue, but I don't understand why I can't succeed the POST with 1 RAM memory.
Or is the problem elsewhere e.g power supply or motherboard?
I'll try the memory test next time I can boot.

Any help will be appreciated.
Regards
Matt

The computer's a year old, running XP, and my boyfriend and I have no idea what's wrong with it (it's his). I'd put in hardware support but I don't know which piece of hardware may be corrupted, exploding as we speak, or what.

It began last night. He's done this before -- he has two monitors, one meant for a TV (I believe) and another old computer screen. Normally it runs on the TV one because it's bigger. He switched to the older one to show me how he can adjust the settings so that it's all vertical. That was great and dandy and we didn't expect any issues. He's done it before and it really isn't doing much to the computer.

Later, after midnight, he goes to switch everything back to normal. First, the computer acts like the monitor is there but that it can't do anything -- it tries to go into sleep mode or something. Then I suggest he unplug, shut down, plug things back in normally, and power back up. This appears to work.

I was a bit happy then, until we got to the XP loading screen. It's going... and then after, it flashes, then goes black. Nothing comes up, nothing does anything.

And so the three hour saga of last night begins. We restart, we spam F8, we get into safe mode, he disables Nvidia but can't open the application. Nor does his mouse function in safe mode (I know some don't, but it really doesn't help the situation). I've used my laptop to bring up shortcut keys and we're functioning through everything that way. He restarts after disabling Nvidia, an... Read more

http://imgur.com/mSaIOuCThis happens on my computer whenever my laptop is at a certain angle. I found out that this is a hardware issue, and not a software issue, but I couldn't find the exact case. How should I fix it?

Answer:Lenovo X240 Screen glitch (hardware issue, not software issue)

The panel is failing. I believe the column drivers' contact tape has delaminated. It is a tape with one contact per LCD column (768) that runs along the edge of the screen

Does Lenovo test the drivers they release any more? I just updated the touchpad driver today and the two finger scrolling is locked to the same setting whether you pick Traditional or Standard in the setting menu. Latest Intel Graphics Driver Lenovo released causes Youtube video to freeze in Chrome and they still haven't released an update even though Intel already did. My X1 Carbon 3rd gen has screen flicker/freeze issue after waking up from sleep. I submitted a ticket a week ago and hear absolutely nothing. According to other member, even replacing motherboard doesn't fix it. I am really started to regret my purchase.

Hi! I'm hoping someone can help me out here because I'm majorly frustrated at this point.

Regardless of the device I use, I can preview photos on the device and they are the correct color. They are also the correct color when viewed in paint, photoshop, or quicktime windows preview. However, they get fuzzy and green when viewed in a windows gallery or when uploaded to a site such as imageshack. I can open the same file side by side, one in photoshop and one in windows live photo gallery, at the same time, and one will be the right color and the other will be green.

Here are examples. This photo appears blue to me. This one is slightly green and fuzzier. The same file in the same format was used to upload both. What really confuses me, however, is that I viewed the link to the green photo on a different computer, and it looks the same as the blue one. So as far as I know, everyone who clicks on those links is thinking, "But they're the same and you're crazy." Which is arguable depending on the crowd but they really don't look the same to me.

I'm using a Slimline s3220n with Windows Vista Home Edition and NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE Graphics. This is a fairly recent issue and is, apparently, inexplicably selective. I have played around with saving the files in various formats but it doesn't make a difference, and also doesn't explain why I view the same file in the same format differently depending on what program I use and when I upload it.

Anyone have any idea what'... Read more

The issue is simply everytime I've used Etrust virus scan when in Internet explorer (have to be) I minimize it, and when I bring it to normal it's fine, but minimize it and bring it up when it's in the Java folder it freezes, should I do an individual scan on the Java folder to see if it has viruses or just make it a special do not scan folder and un-click it when scanning?

Answer:Solved: Etrust Viruscan does not like Java Program folder: not virus issue but scanning issue

Hi, Often the applets stored from Java usage will trigger either a detection or an issue as you are seeing from antivirus scanners.

I'd suggest clearing the Java cache: see the attached screenshot, your version may be slightly different but you should be able to see where to look, and what to do. (The attached pic is from a slightly older version of the Java...the steps below are up to date, though)

Control Panel> (Switch to Classic View)> open Java

Find the Settings tab/button, and open that...then find the Delete Files button and click that.
It's just deleting the temporary files left from Java applet usage.

Then, after clearing the cache, run your scan again and see if it works correctly.

I just bought a Yoga 720, 13.3 inch from Amazon (USA) - i5, 256 gb SSD, 8 gb RAM.  Its a nice laptop but upon turning it on, the fan noise scared me completely. To add more to the woes, screen couldnt display white color properly. It would show an off white color/yellowish tint - I thought this is a defective one until i read it online that many are facing this issue. I have four computers that are connected at any given time to the home network. I believe have two issues here.

The first, all of the computers connect and surf the Internet at very slow speeds. Sometimes it seems like I'm back on Dial-up. My MacBook (which is my main computer I work from) connects to the Internet with an Ethernet cable directly into the DSL box. Even if I turn the other three computers off in the office I still run slow on the Internet. Any thoughts on how to improve this? My DSL provider says its an issue with our setup. Great thanks for the help!

Second, my Mac overall seems to be running very slow. I have over 14GB of available space so I would not think that the computer is in overload.

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Moving at turtle speed - Internal Network issue or DSL issue?

If you have more than one computer, and all exhibit the same symptoms, it's hard to believe they're all bad.
Pick one that doesn't exhibit any other issues and do this:

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

The link to post is near the top of the page and looks like:

If you wish to post this result to a forum, please copy/paste this URL
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2357195 <- sample only, yours will obviously be different!
and your IP will be disguised.

Copy/paste that link here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Hi these are my issues.I have upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.But now i found that the hotkeys shortcuts for brigtness with the key Fn  don't work good. ( the sound hotkeys work perfect.) The brightness can't be controlled with the Fn+brigthness up key   or Fn+brightness down key  ( the bar that indicates the brightness blinks like something is wrong). I fast grab the bar before dissapear with the mouse and i can control it, with mouse. Most of all i find something very weird on the brightness of the screen as I am sure as i set the brightness on the lowest level  the brightness was lower with Windows 7. I mean sometimes I want the brightness on the most lower level. But with Windows 10 even in the lowest level the screen is more bright from Windows 7.  My laptop is SL 510  with Windows 10 upgraded from 7 in Greek language. Thanks a lot.

Typing this super quick. As I'm sure, the stupid popup will appear again. When trying to access any websites, a message comes up. It isn't an error message or the "unresponsive script" message. It is different. It has lots of code on it. Probably the url of what it's trying to access. This would normally happen in the background, and the user shouldn't see it.

I googled part of the message, and it mentioned something about a user agent...whatever that is. I just want the message(s) to stop popping up! Any help is much appreciated.

Here is a screenshot of what I'm seeing:

Answer:Firefox Issue - Constant popup - User agent issue?

User agent info is identifying information about your browser, system, and region plus a unique identifier that your browser sends to websites it visits. I would try resetting your browser if you don't have settings you are worried about losing by doing that.

I've been talking with anyone & everyone since last week - I just spent an hour on the phone and still have no idea what is going on with my service issue.  This is after my hour and 20 minutes earlier today, the hour yesterday and the 3 hours on Friday.  Our laptop had an error message regarding a bad usb port straight out of the box.  I was told to send it to service.  On Thursday I was told that they were waiting for a part.  They finally got the part on Friday and they said I'd probably get the laptop on Monday, or at the latest Tuesday.  They did make me aware that it could take 5-7 days.  By the way, the 24 hour depot service upgrade just means they'll get the box to you in 24 hours - not that your computer will be fixed in 24 hours.  It actually took me over an hour to get in touch with someone at Lenovo who was able to send me a copy of what the ThinkPlus service upgrade covers.  I couldn't find it on the website and I went through numerous people and was told that they don't have anything like that before I was able to locate someone who could get me that info - and he was in sales and very much rushed me off the phone when he figured out I just had a question and wasn't planning on purchasing anything else. It's now Tuesday but I get a different answer each time I call: 1) the techs haven't entered the status, 2) their new system isn't up and running 3) the computer is not repairable and ... Answer:New laptop with USB issue at 1st start up has turned into customer service issue

you did not detail what you were trying to hook up via the USB port. If you simply fired up your computer and itdisplayed this error, did you even try connecting anything to the usb ? a mouse, a camera, a external floppy or a hard drive, even one of the thumb drives. In my past use and getting error messages, it was due to setup in the bios was turned off for usb, or the cord I had was faulty, or the device was simply bad. Another issue one time was that the files that load up XP usb were bad, and reinstalling or repair did the job. good luck.

Hi,

I manually upgraded to the new 1703 release of Windows 10, and this OS is very stable.

I burned the ISO and did an in-place upgrade from Version 1607 on 3 PCs, and got this weird issue.

All of them have NVIDIA graphics cards, and instantly after upgrade, the screens started flickering. I had to reinstall the drivers in order to stop the flickering as there was an issue with the GeForce Experience after upgrade.

The other bug that's kind of annoying, is the new app and features view in the settings app. It brings up all the programs like "Programs and features", but what I don't like, is how UAC keeps popping up when trying to uninstall a program, and the program attempting to run is Rundll32.exe, and the uninstall fails due to it can't find the uninstall program.
If I go to programs and features in control panel, all uninstall programs buttons work correctly and no issues..

Maybe a bug in the new Apps and Features app in settings? I haven't tried a clean install to see if it gives the same issue.

Maybe I should have waited a while after the 1703 rollout to ensure the bugs were out of it.

Answer:Screen blinking issue, bug issue in new Windows 10 Pro Version 1703

Issue fixed.

Had to do a clean install of Windows.

Here's what happened.

I had Windows 10 Pro Version 1607 on my primary hard drive, and Windows 10 Pro RTM version 10240 initial release on a separate 320 GB drive with some of my other stuff on it.

I decided to unplug my 320 GB, and only have the Primary drive installed. The computer booted, and told me that Windows 10 Pro 1607 was the OS installed. Unplug the primary 1 TB, plug in the 320 GB drive, and Version 10240 boots up. Now, what's weird, is if I plug in both drives, and boot it up, it would say Windows 10 Pro Version 1703 is installed.

I have no idea what happened here, but I've never seen this before.

I tried to do a clean install of Windows, and initially it told me I had an upgrade in progress, and needed to restart the computer to complete the upgrade. I restart the computer with the 320 GB unplugged, and guess what, now it says there's no operating system installed. Great.

Restarted, wiped my drive clean, clean install of 1703 with my primary drive plugged in only. Windows runs great now, no issues.

I'm wowwed by this. After 12 years of being a computer tech, I've never seen this before.

Hello!

I upgraded to Windows 10 today. I have two issues.

1. I play a game called "Starcraft II" and I have a problem with the game minimizing and maximizing sometimes very slowly, every 5th attempt or so. During this time it takes up to 40 seconds for the game to go through with the maximizing/minimizing process, and ending the task with task manager is not possible.

I have tried messing with MSConfig and reinstalling the game. No luck. Any suggestions?

2. I have an old HDD on my PC installed with windows 7, and on my windows 7 SSD installation I could simply search for shortcuts I placed from my HDD into my SSD. This is no longer possible. Any advice?

Thank you!

Answer:Windows 10 slow minimizing/maximizing issue & search issue.

I posted the same on their tech support forum but I'm beginning to think the issue, while it may have been exacerbated by the game Guildwars 2, is likely on my end, but I have a number of suggestions, none of which has worked. Also tried my own stuff.

Anyway, here is what I posted on their own tech forum:

Having a lot of issues getting into gw2…I have bits and pieces of problems others have had in the past, but nothing seems to work, so I’m re-downloading the game, basically. All I want to do is play the freaking game, why does it have to be so much trouble?

Once in awhile I will get that blue and yellow graphical glitch on something. Just more info for diagnosis. If and when this happens, it’s always immediately apparent at character select. However…The biggest problem I have with GW2 is also on login – it either crashes or bluescreens my computer right after clicking play and the client tries to load for 5-10 seconds. For the past few days, 90% of the time it just crashes. If I try to patch after that point, the patcher stops at Downloading 0KB and will not budge from it. Not even to log in. I have to reboot my computer to get it past “Downloading 0KB”.

Unfortunately, though I thought I did, I have no images of the odd cyan/yellow graphics glitch, and I have no way of getting one (google didn't turn up any that looked the same as mine, granted some were similar).

Edit - I also noticed after re-enabling page memory on my primary drive after freeing up some space, that in the error logs, the amount of paged memory in use is for some reason higher. I can't imagine why this is, but maybe I don't understand the process.

I am from India. Purchased a Lumia 730 recently (2 weeks back). The next day I updated the device and from that day the screen flickers. Went to the Nokia Care Centre but they were unable to ascertain the issue. In one blog, wp8 lvr had commented it might be an issue with the OS. Is it so? I am worried.

Lumia 730 still has a very early build of an os that is yet to be distributed to many other models. So chill, wait till. an OS update is released. If still nothing happens, you can get your phone replaced :)

Hi everyone, Recently wiped my hard drive and clean installed a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my Thinkpad T500. Love the speed and the stability, but do not have a couple features that used to work under Vista. Does anyone know what's going on? 1. I set up my power plan in such a way that after, 15 minutes on battery, the T500 goes to sleep. After 2 hours on battery with no activity, the T500 is supposed to go to hibernate. However, the 2nd step never happens. Please note that I can always manually put my computer in hibernation. I know some of the others have had issues where the hibernation doesn't work at all. I don't have that. It just won't automatically hibernate after being asleep forawhile. This used to work in Vista. 2. I have the hotkey driver installed. All of others, Fn-F2, to Fn-F12 to Fn-Home to Fn-Spacebar work. Only Fn-F9 doesn't work. I can sleep eject things manully using the standard windows way, but not using Fn-F9. I miss it! How can i fix this? Note:Thinkpad Power Management Driver: 1.60.0.4Thinkpad Power Manager 3.20Thinkpad Hotkey Features Integration Setup 3.09.0000 Thanks!

I waited until the last minute (literally) to upgrade from Win7 to Win10. During the wait I kept up with all the Win10 HP blogs. My HP all-in-1 printer works great thanks to the support blog but I am still having difficulty getting my BOSE speakers to sound as they did with Beats on Win 7. I have downloaded and installed the compatible IDT HiDef Audio CODEC driver but the sound quality is still poor. The "Speakers/Headphones" property sound setting is "24-bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality)". I would like to adjust the treble/bass settings as before - I want my BOSE speakers back!! Any recent recommendations?Thanx!!

Hello, I am was wondering if someone could help me determine if there is an infection with my computer. The most recent issue is that I am getting an "C:\WINDOWS\winstart.bat is offline - it is currently not available (42006)" error on two recent Quick Scans using avast! in the past two days. I've run SUPERAntiSpyware (SAS), MBAM, Spybot S&D, MB Anti-rootkit and have found no issues other than tracking cookies. In addition I had tried to install & run Kapersky's free one-time scanner but was unable to install twice due to "insufficient" permissions and once where the installation stopped during the download phase (some message about " server connection").  Note if I look for the winstart.bat file using Windows Explorer it doesn't show the file even with the option of seeing hidden files yet when I run show-hidden -f it shows the file as being hidden in that location (I.e. C:\Windows\winstart.bat). Note that the only virus issues I have had over the past months have been when ComboFix was compromised with Sality: I believe I isolated that issue as AVG, SAS, SpyBot and CCleaner were able to eradicate most (??) of the issues.

In addition, in the past I have had issues with Chrome which were unusual. The first occurrence was during August last year where the Facebook title of a "Most Visited" tile was a name of person I had not visited recently. Im trying to troubleshoot/figure out my customers internet issue. Ok he has a acer laptop he bought new couple weeks ago, and it has wifi of course, now at home he has a dell desktop connected to a comcast modem via wired. Now the deskto gets on the internet fine, but when he bought the laptop he disconnected the wire from the modem side and connected a new wire from the modem to the nic card on the laptop to try out the internet on the new laptop. But it wasnt getting on the inter the blank white page of IE comes ups.

So before calling me for help he took the laptop to a local computer shop and they connected their wire from their router or modem whatever they had and it connected just fine right away, then he went home and tried again on his comcast modem and still didnt work but his dell desktop internet did work.

He took it back to the shop second time and it worked there, so then he called me and I went over and I notice the same issue. So all I did to get his internet to work was turn off the power to the modem for like a minute and power it up and wait for the online light stops blinking telling us it hook up to the internet service while the laptop was off. Powered up the laptop and it connected to the internet finally.

So I thought yay we fixed the glitched/issue, so I left the site then he calls me 30 miutes later saying he connected the wire from desktop back into the modem but now the internet is not working on the desktop. So I told him ok power off the... Read more

Answer:Please read this long issue story for a internet connection issue....

I'm a bit tired right now, so I'm not going to go into any detail here. To put it plain and simple: Either Comcast or the modem is allowing only the first seen MAC address to access their network. There are two solutions here:

1) (The Best Way) Get a router. Preferably wireless.

2) (The Free Way) Change the MAC address of one of the two computers to match the other.

Hey, I just got a new motherboard/cpu/smaller case... really nice looking media center edition black case. It all booted up fine, got most the drivers, I have an 80gb HDD on SATA0 and a 320gb on SATA1, 32 bit on 0, 64 bit on 1, Default to 64 bit. It was all working fabulously before, and I fried my CPU, so I decided to go the extra mile for a new mobo and case as well. My 32 bit XP is fine, has all the drivers, everything is tested, USB front and back, front and back audio, and everything else.

On x64 though, it had all the drivers, I even saw it in Device Manager previous to the chaos, and from what I think did it, was GlarysTools or something like that... I uninstalled it, so it has no 'recovery' backup from before. Long story short, I have no device manager that properly works, the console will open, but no devices show, I've done work with it, I've researched and such, and found out that it might have something to do with Plug and Play. I have no 'Plug and Play' service, that could be an issue, though I don't know for sure, but I have Universal Plug and Play Device Host, and SSDP Discovery Service, though both of those are started, and properly working on 'automatic' setting, have restarted the PC numerous times, and restarted the services numerous times with no avail. I also get the message "Configuration Manager: The Plug and Play service or another required service is not available." when double-clicking ANY service. It still goes to the properties prompt,... I'm hoping somebody reads this and does the quick test below to help see if I found a Lenovo Helix display issue, or if just mine is defective! I just received my Helix Core i7/8GB RAM/256GB SSD/4G LTE.  (I have udpated all software, drivers, and Windows.  Screen set at normal 32 bit color, 50/60 Hz refresh rates tested - default options unchanged.) Under some circumstances, I can see some flickering on the screen, like on an old CRTs when you set the refresh rate to very low.  I've done some tests, and here is one quick way to reproduce it....can someone else try it so I can see if my Helix is defective? Keep your helix in normal portrait mode.  Open the Windows sticky notes (the built-in app since Windows 7 that lets you put a "postit" on the desktop).  Put that note in the upper right corner, so it takes like a quarter of the screen.  Leave it on for 2-3 minutes at least (5 minutes best). Then swipe on the right side to bring the charms menu, click settings: now the larger blue vertical bar showing settings/shutdown button etc shows up.  Right there, on the blue bar, where the sticky notes used to be underneath, mine flickers a LOT sometimes, and sometimes it's just a little.  It goes away after a few minutes.  It's exactly and only where the sticknotes were (the rest of my desktop pic is blue). It's not a software bug.  The issue persists on that spot of the screen if you immediately reboot, and progres... Answer:Help!! Helix Screen Issue - Refresh/Flicker in Some Cases: Do You Have the Same Issue?!

Could anyone please help? I'm really trying to find out if this is a generic issue, or if my Helix tablet is faulty... It's an easy test, just leave the Windows yellow sticky notes app for 2 minutes in the upper right hand corner of your deskotp, then bring the blue "Settings" vertical bar on the right side that appears after you select the settings icon in the charms menu, and see if you see anything weird...flickering on the screen like if there was a refresh rate issue just there.  Screen at 50% brightness or more to see it more easily. I've done more tests, and it looks like this happens more when switching from yellow to blue.   Much less or none with other colors.  Hence the test above. Weird! Screen/CPU temperature has almost no effect.  Same issue in other spots in the screen, but less.  Same type of  issue at any brightness, but more visible at FULL birghtness.  Help!  Thank you!

Any advice?

Thank you!

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer resolving this issue.

Alwasy been plagued by game crashes in aion. Suspect possibly bad ram stick, even though wind mem test doesnt show anything, perhaps I didnt run it long enough.

In tryhing to solve that issue I began updating drivers for all components. As a result a new issue has emerged that wasn't present before. M y fps and ping are good in game (both in 60's) yet I find myself now getting randome disconnects from game server, as well as severe, frequent, and prolonged rubber band effect ( ending back in area I passed 20-30 secs earlier), or no response when interacting with mobs etc for as long as similar periods of time.

I suspect , because they were most confusing, problem with my asus p8v68 pro mobo. The intel (i5 3.3ghz) and nvidia (geforce 560 se) were auto detects and self downloading.

To resolve since windows scan was showing some corruption Ive
1) put in a spare seagate barracuda hard drive with full new windows 7 home premium resinstall.

2) downloaded and repaired game multiple times, as well as weeks back and forth with tech supprot.

3) various spyware, virus etc checks , prior to windows and hard drive switch

4) all windows updates are up to date.

This is the download page used for asus drivers. http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P8Z68-V+PRO

have to input windows 7 under operating system to see options. May have installed outdated dr... Read more
