Error message "We are unable to connect right now" on login screen

Question: Error message "We are unable to connect right now" on login screen

I have a Microsoft account set up with a pin. Every time I boot my computer up, I am greeted with the login screen and my photo, with the message below it, "We are unable to connect right now. Please check your network and try again later." And it's asking for my password, not my pin. For some reason, I see my username twice on the lower left corner. One is the password log-in, the other is the pin. I can successfully log in with either. I just want to know, what is with the error message? I've got a connection, so I can't figure out why.

Preferred Solution: Error message "We are unable to connect right now" on login screen

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Okay , this is going to be a very long post . So bear with me here

I have an acer aspire 5742g laptop . I use wifi at my home , and the wireless network seemed to work fine there.

Then after a few days I came to the hostel . We have wifi in the hostel , so I tried to connect my laptop with the wifi . And there is a message that came , "Unable to connect to stes(name of the wifi network ) , earlier I thought that it was a temporary thing and that it would work the next day, but then the next day , my room mates arrived and their laptops connected easily without the error message .

1)When I click on the wifi icon on the right hand side bottom bar , I can see the network , but it does not connect , and gives me the same error message .

2)When I click on Network and Sharing Center , and then on manage wireless network , I don't see the name(stes) of the wireless network(So I can't even remove it)

3)I have tried uninstalling, installing, updating my network adapter , drivers etc . but none of the things have worked .

I can't seem to figure out what the problem is . Its really bugging me now :| , I formatted my laptop , restored it to factory settings , nothing worked.
I also tried to connect through a hotspot which I made from my mobile and it got connected easily without any problem .
Can anyone help me out here ?

Hi! I've been getting the above issue where the Windows Login screen displays the string "1 unread mail message" when I click on Log Off Administrator and select Switch User to temporarily log myself out of the system when I'm about to take a break. It appears right above the "...programs running" string and beneath the user name (in this case, Administrator), and I want to know how to get rid of it. It started after I installed Windows Live Messenger. I can't recall what exactly I did to make it appear, but I did uninstall the program, yet the issue remains. Any suggestions on how to deal with it?

Hi I want to ask if it is possible to edit maybe the authui.dll or the explorer.exe to remove the "locked" message that appears above the password box whenever I lock my computer.
I have already managed to remove the user picture, the "enter" button and the watermark by fiddeling with both those files, but the "locked" mesage is damn near impossible to get rid of :P

EDIT: My endgame is to have a totaly clear login screen, except for the password box in the middle

Answer:Help with removing the "Locked" message at login screen

If it's just the word that you want removed I'm not 100% sure but I found it in the authui.dll.mui in the String folder in both C:\Windows\System32\en-US and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\en-US folders, yours may be in a different folder then the en-US check your language folder.

Hi. I've been experiencing a very bizarre problem for the last couple of days. After restarting Win7 it gets to the login screen (the one that says "Windows 7" at the bottom) that is supposed to show the available profiles. But no profiles are shown. After about 30 seconds an error message pops up that appears to be in the "Wingdings" or some similar font. It's gibberish. I can't find any info on this anywhere. If anyone has any clue I'd appreciate it.

I'll try to post a photo tomorrow morning.

It does the same with "safe mode" (minus the error message) and even with "last know good...".

Here's a pic for you native Wingdings speakers out there Also, the cursors stays on screen and can be moved, plus every few seconds the screen flashes black very quickly. Does the error message look familiar to anyone (except for the font used of course). Note that going into the repair disc and using start-up repair did nothing.

Hi Guys,
I have a weird problem, when I try to login on Vista Home Premium 32, I enter the password and all I get is "X" on a red background and "Incorrect function".
I had previously installed XP and 7 on another drive, a Seagate 500GB Momentous XT hybrid drive and after a few problems finding drivers for XP and 7 got both working well and aligned the drive so that it works well with SSD part of the drive.
Used Easy BCD to create a dual boot and all was well.
Then I installed the older drive in the spare drive bay, yes 2 drive bays on this 17" laptop, tried to create a triple boot with Easy BCD which created it but it did not work. I got an error message "could not find the hardware specified". This was probably due to the fact that the drive I had already got Vista on was dual booted with another drive that I had XP on and was not installed in the laptop any more.
After this I removed the XT Hybrid drive and put the old drive back in the first bay, but it would not boot.
Used the Vista install CD and was able to repair the start up. The laptop will start to the Login Screen but I am unable to login.
I was able to start in Safe Mode and login, no problems, created a password reset disc/USB stick. Able to reset password but still no luck, "Incorrect function" on login.
Tried creating a new administrator, able to do so in "Safe mode" still the same problem on login.

I usually use the internet in 3 locations on my laptop and till a few days back the laptop would connect fine to all 3 wifi networks. However, out of the blue my laptop stopped connecting to the wifi at location A and B, and still connects fine at location C. Other laptops and phones still connect fine to the wifi at location A and B, there's been no change in the software on my laptop since before the problem and I've run a system restore too to back when it was working, with no luck. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the adapter driver, also cleared my saved network locations and tried to connect again. Any other suggestions?

I am aware this a problem that has been addressed multiple time on this forum and others but am unable to come up with a solution from previous posts.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64, and have been for years.

I have had no problems previously that I was unable to fix.

This morning when starting up my pc I got the error message "Failed to connect to a windows service"

In addition it has defaulted to windows classic theme and I can not re enable Aero.

I looked at the Event log but it is simply beyond my level of understanding how to address the errors. Also all errors shown seem to be relativity longstanding/ recurring.

I have tried all the common suggestions I could find and none have fixed to problem.

Please can you help

Thanks
Will

Hello,

I have a HP C5280 printer which has to date been working with no problems.I up-dated the driver soft ware as a download, which was successfully installed, however, when it came time to plug in the printer,it failed to install.I tried to add the printer manually, but the "error message 0x000003eb" kept occuring.I've contacted Hewlett Packard for help and - to their credit - tried fairly extensively to help solve the problem, but concluded it was a computer problem.I have un-installed/re-installed the software several times, but nothing seems to work. The printer is not listed in the printers box,but the software is recognised. The printer works in every other way.

I really would appreciate some help,as this is a complete mystery.
Thank you,

Any quick help would be greatly appreciated. I was trying to fix some BSOD's and windows update issues on a friend's pc. I thought i was successful until i kept getting "Setup has detected that .NET Framework 4 needs to be repaired. Do not restart your computer until the repair is complete."

After some research, I thought I could resolve the issue with the .net framework cleanup tool. After attempting that, now I get the "Application was unable to start properly (0xc0150004)" error message. The only program I've been able to start has been IE8. This also means I wasn't able to run the BSOD tool you guys provide for posting.

I've tried startup repair more than a couple times. Also tried system restore from the windows recovery environment and it said it was unable to complete. 50% of the time, when trying to get into the recovery environment or just the regular system, I get an "irql_less_or_not_eual" blue screen.

When i originally started working on the pc i cleaned a bunch of viruses off (or so i thought). I have a sneaking suspicion that this issue was caused by a virus with a sneaky backdoor and is masquerading as some .net files.

the system was built by my friend and has: Asus p5ql pro MOBO, Intel core 2 duo, currently 4gigs mem (2x2gb corsair), NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS and a WD HD.

I hope I've given some good starting information.

Thanks

I have a Dell Pentium 4 (1.7MH) running Windows XP SP-2. When I trie and save a file from the command prompt using an application such as a text editor, or word processor (dos based) I received the above message. There is a box (from MS Edit) with buttons "retry" "cancel" "help". I clicked on help and this information was displayed:

Edit is unable to create or access the specified file, which might be due to the following reasons:

» You may be trying to create or write to a file on a drive that is read-only, such as a CD-ROM or a read-only network drive.
» You may be trying to overwrite a file that is read-only.
» You may be trying to access a file that is locked by another user or program.
» You may be trying to read or write to a directory name.

The situation is this: I can only save a file if I rename that file (using save as.) I've made sure that this happens with or without long file names. I've have 3 hard drive installed and the same thing happens on all the drives and in root and sub directories. I've used different DOS based programs in CMD.EXE console including MS Edit; Wordperfect 5.1; and PEDIT (among others) all showing the same behavior.

There is no problem in Windows based programs. I have not changed my environment variables, etc. The behavior was sudden and it's still continuing.

I must rename the file in order for it to be saved, then copy it at the prompt to the file name that I really want. I'... Read more

Let me start off my saying I've installed this exact copy of windows 7 before on this computer with no problems and it worked for years. I'm trying to install Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit version when I run into this message "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing partition." So I search and find a solution in these forums (Setup was unable to create a new system partition) I do that but I get stuck on "format fs=ntsf". I'm getting a message error saying "The arguments specified for this command are not valid." What do I do? I googled but found several different answers and didn't fully understand some if them. Any help would be appreciated.

Your syntax is off:

Commands are

DISKPART

SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

This looks to be a tricky one. I have two PC's running windows 7 Pro with SP2. One can detect and run Canon Toolbox for scanning, the other does not. When running it states error "Unable to open Twain Source". I have not been able to identify the reason why the windows 7 installation runs differently. I have re-installed the windows 7 (upgrade/repair) on the PC that does not work.

I have read forums that recommend adding a system variable to the path. This does not work. I have tried to compare paths, setting, etc between the machines yet they are the same (at least so far).

Windows scanner and camera properties (c:\program files\windows photo viewer) shows the scanner (Canon 8400F). I ran diagnostics and scanner executes successfully. I select scan profiles and it states "No scanner detected". This is puzzling.

I worked with Canon to delete driver, and re-install (after reboot of course). Re-installed Canon tool box 4.9, the driver is for the windows 7 64 bit. Those seem to install correctly. There seems to be some issue with windows 7 as it seems to see a scanner until you run and then it cannot detect it.

It has puzzled Canon, nothing in the forum so far has a solution and I am puzzled as I have spnet many hours on this. Yet it works on one machine but not the other. I have been un-installing several applications but nothing seems to be in conflict. The driver is shown as installed and ok in device manager.

I hope this is enough information to... Read more

Answer:Canon 8400F - "Unable to open Twain Source" error message

I can fully relate to the problem of installing the train driver for the Canon 8400f scanner. I suddenly found my scanner not working and spent hours trying every idea I could find on the Internet without success. I tried loading and using the scanner on an old XP computer and it worked fine so I knew the scanner wasn't the problem.

I decided my problem somehow involved Windows 7 software. I downloaded and installed all of the upgrades from Microsoft, including over 40 optional ones, and after this the scanner worked fine. I've no idea which of the many upgrades solved the problem as I didn't install them one at a time..

Judging by posts on the Internet many have had or have this problem so perhaps my solution may be of help to others.

I've researched this but it's confusing....I get that message and then "please reinstall Microsoft XML core services 4.0 v.2 or higher"

Can someone tell me EXACTLY the process for installing that stuff? I downloaded the stuff I was told to, but it's a lot of different files, not sure where to put them, or how to install them, etc.

It would be appreciated- thanks!

Answer:Solved: Nero 9 giving error message: "unable to create XML parser instance"

You need not worry about "where to put them" as any installation routine will automatically put the files in the right place.
You were directed to the wrong place so delete what you downloaded from there.

Now you just need to know where to get what your PC says it needs:

For Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 SP3 go here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=15697

Just click the download button to the right of msxml.msi (the first of the three download options).
You'll end up with just one file to deal with.
Double click that file to install.

That should fix the nero error, hopefully.

Hi all,

Wondered if someone could help?

I have upgraded two machines to Win 10 over the past few days. Both installations went fine initially, except that on one machine, after coming out of Outlook I then couldn't restart the app - it said something like I didn't have the correct permissions to access the pst file. I thought it might have something to do with different user accounts so I therefore decided to do a fresh install from USB and all has been fine since.

The other machine had an initial problem with sending emails which was sorted by the sfc /scannow command. However, I now wanted to reinstall Zonealarm - I had thought that it was still installed; it shows up under Programs and Features but doesn't show up in Task Manager or have the usual icon in the taskbar etc...

The version that would be installed (from Windows 8.1) wouldn't work anyway, but when I try and install the correct version I get "Unable to create an installation log for logging installation activities". I also get the same error message when trying to uninstall the previous version of Zonealarm or use their Clean.exe program. A google search for this doesn't seem to shed too much light on it.

I have a feeling it may be a similar issue to the first machine, as installing Zonealarm on that machine has completed fine, but I didn't really want to do a fresh install on the second machine having got it all set up how I want it.

As mentioned I have a feeling it may have something... Read more

Hi;
Had a sudden inability to go much further than a third or forth-level download on ANY given webpage and then PC would seize-up, requiring "cont+alt+del" in order to get freed-up. Thought perhaps I picked-up a bug of some sort during a recent google search, and went immediately to Panda and Trendmicro to perform both virus as well as malware scans. While the Panda scan was loading-up, I received the following error message....

... " DoPatch....dll reports error....Error "C:\WINNT\patch.utp"....unreadable or not a patch file..."

Was able to complete both scans. Nothing found other than tracking cookies.

I then did a file serch for the above and located it. It was installed TODAY apparently, and not by me, within minutes of the problem starting.

I'm guessing someone/thing slipped this patch into my WINNT file or modified it while I was doing the google search, so I have included a HJT scan below.

Hope this all makes sense and ties-out to something. Any help would be genuinely appreciated-
thanks

Anyways those were the keys of the error message. It said something about if this is the first time this has happened then just restart your computer which is what I did. And this was the first time.

Is there anything I can or should do about this or should I just hope it doesn't happen again.

Also what would MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS mean?

thanks

Hey guys!

I've been attempting to play the new Battlecruiser game, "Universal Combat". Unfortuantely, more often than not, the computer will freeze/crash within the first five minutes.

What happens is that the computer will instantly lock-up, displaying a blank blue screen. Only there is no message displayed, just the last half second of audio repeating ad infinum, as it apparent that the computer has frozen.

I have contacted there tech support at 3000AD (the game's designers), yet the insist that it was not caused by the game, hence they resolve all responsibility in helping me, even though the problem is apparently unique to Universal Combat on my system, as it has never occured before with any other program.

I am running Windows XP on an AMD Athlon 2000 with 1GB Ram, Via chipset on an MSI board, ATI Radeon 9600 and Phillips Acoustic Edge 5.1. I've also updated all my drivers in an attempt to solve the problem, but to no avail. Checking in the microsoft event logs of the time of the crash shows the last two entries being the crash itself then what is labled as "redbook" (something having to do with audio)

You guys out there are unquestionably the best, and have helped me many times before. I'd be very happy to provide any other information you might require in solveing this problem. Thank you for your time.

My computer gets the following Error Message everytime I try to go on Fire Fox, Restore to an ealier date, go to a website from a web address in an email in Outlook Express, download certain software or downloads:

XUL Runner
Errorlatform version 1.9.0.4 is not compatible with min version>=1.9.0.5. max version<=1.9.0.5 .

I am able, however, to get on the Internet with Internet Explorer. When I Clean the Disk, the number value of stuff to erase increases rather than get wipped out. It is now up over 300,000 MB's. It slowly started at 25 MB's and has grown very, very slowly. I Clean the Disk and Degfrag every time I use the computer.

My system is a Dell Dimension 3000 using Windows XP Home Edition.

This ubiquitous error message constantly pops up and blocks me from doing certain things. I have tried Restoring the computer to an earlier date. I have used the Dell drivers to try to clean the hard drive, but I am blocked.

I first noticed this in early November 2008. The Verizon Anti-Virus System did nothing to alert me to any viruses.

I have spent a good amount of time trying to solve the problem, but it is out of my knowledge of information.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Ok let us start simply
This may just be a corrupted install of firefox or and incompatability issue with a add-on.

Some Firefox issues can be resolved by downloading a new Firefox installer from Mozilla.com and then closing Firefox, deleting the Firefox installation directory and reinstalling Firefox. (On a typical Windows install, you would delete the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder and then reinstall Firefox using the "Standard" Setup Type.) Another option would be to uninstall Firefox and then reinstall into a different folder location, which is done using the "Custom" Setup Type on Windows and choosing a different Destination Folder for the install location (e.g., C:\Program Files\Firefox3). [3]

or for a completely clean install of FF

* First, download an official version of Firefox from Mozilla.com (or download Firefox 2 if your system can't run the current version) and save it to your desktop or other location. Avoid unofficial download sites that bundle Firefox with other software such as the Google Toolbar.
* Next, completely uninstall your current version of Firefox as outlined in Uninstalling Firefox. (Note that removing the Firefox installation directory will also fix some problems related to old or incompatible browser plugins on Windows systems, by removing plugin files that may be contained in the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins folder.)
* Important: If you haven't already created a new Firefox profil... Read more

hi,

i have a compaq presario sr1103wm. i'm running windows xp service pack
#2. i have 512mb of memory in here.

a few days ago the computer "crashed". i was just playing a dvd (or trying to) and suddenly a blue screen came up saying there is a 'registry error'. I tried rebooting, but every time it just goes back to the same page where i can choose last known good confirugation, etc. i've tried every possible option from there, but then it just reboots back to that same screen.

i have my windows cd, so i ran the recovery console. when i get there, i'm given a choice of 3 systems to log onto (mini nt, something else, and windows on the c drive). so i chose windows on the c drive (option #3). each time i press 3 and enter, that same blue screen comes up with the message about the registry error.

i don't know what to do - am i totally hosed? is there anyone that might have encountered this before that might be able to steer me in the right direction? please?

The blue screen that you saw is the infamous Blue Scrren of Death (BSOD) - seriously. It has plagued systems for years now.

Cab you obtain any information from the screen - or does it just flash and then your system reboots? What I'm looking for will appear just more than 1/2 way down the screen on the left side - it will read STOP: followed by a set of letters/numbers, some inside parentheses. the most important two are the ones immediately following STOP: Also, there may be a file name such as RTL8185.sys.

Have you tried to boot into SAFEMODE? I'm not sure it will provide you with alternate options, but it is worth a try. Boot-up and repeatedly press the F8 key.

Please get back to me. . .

I tried to rename computer and now there's two entries in log in screen. That new one is set as default and wouldn't accept any password but original (normal) one does. Long in is set on auto but still have to chose between those 2 when starting/restarting.
I can't find that new one anywhere to disable/delete it. Not in Users or any other place for handling accounts.
How to get rid of or where to find it ?

Answer:Reanamed "Computer", now 2 of "Me" at login screen.

Not knowing if this is what happened in your case, but what you describe occasionally happens when Windows is set up to sign in automatically to a user account and then computer name is changed.

The reason is that a full username as long as Windows is concerned is different than username from user's point of view; Mike in your case or Kari in mine are usernames for most we do and need to use a username for but actually they are just user profile names. For Windows the username is ComputerName\UserProfileName.

On laptop I am writing this for instance my full username is AGM-W10LAP01\Kari, even when I am in fact using a Microsoft account. Three different things: my Windows sign-in user account is a Microsoft account [email protected], my user profile name is Kari, my full username is AGM-W10LAP01\Kari.

Long story short, that other you which does not accept your password is doing so because it is user OldComputerName\Mike. That computer name is no longer valid making the username invalid.

I've seen the duplicate using old computer name as part of full username going away when Windows after computer name change is then set to sign in automatically with a local admin account. Restart and remove automatic sign in and see if it works.

I was messing with my ASUS N10j and I tried to install Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit on it.

Installation went fine, but then when it wanted to boot up for the first time, it gave me a window that said "Can not open recovery.dat" and a huge red ERROR message appeared in the middle of the screen.

From googling, these guys (http://www.overclock.net/windows/435626-error-recovery-dat.html) believe its because of a hidden recovery partition. Well, how do I delete that partition if I don't have access to Windows?

The laptop also doesn't have a DVD-drive, so the solution has to be via USB.

I have no clue what to do. Help!

EDIT: Ugh... I guess this is more software related... Sorry.

Answer:Red "ERROR" message because "Can not open file C:Recovery.dat"

Greetings, RommelTJ...

Couple of things you might consider trying:

* Boot to a Linux USB drive, and format your hard drive from that environment - tips on how to create a Mint 7 (Gloria) bootable flash drive can be found here...

* Get your hands on a USB DVD drive, and use it to boot to your Windows disk to delete/recreate any partitions...

Quick question: how are you trying to install Vista without an optical drive?

I've tried a couple of things that MS Support suggests but they don't work and don't seem to really apply to this particular error message. Searching for the error code 80246007 hasn't yielded anything yet that works.

Hi y'all,

I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software problem, so if I am in the wrong place, I apologize. I cannot access a photo file folder that is on an external hard drive. Depending on how I try to get to the file, I get either a "corrupt file" message or "i/o error message". I cannot delete the folder, cannot move the folder, and I can't do a defrag on that hard drive because of the folder. Chkdsk did not show any problems with the hard drive. I have just gone through the deep cleaning as listed on this forum, but nothing out of the way showed up on my external hard drive. I would appreciate any help with solving this problem. Stats: hp pavilion760N, win xp, service pack 2, seabolt external 160 gigharddrive with 45gig free. Thanks, Diane

Answer:get either "file corrupted" or "i/o error message"

Does the error message arise when you access the file or the folder? If it is only the file, then I would recommend getting everything else off of the external temporarily and then getting a tool from the external drive vendor to reformat. You lose the file but regain the drive.

Cheers.

The following happened to my mother on her laptop. Mom is not a techie, and apparently everything happened as soon as she started up her laptop and opened Skype. According to her, she was using it for maybe 20 seconds before everything happened.

What I personally did witness was that my mother's Win10 laptop had a repeating audio message, ?Microsoft alert,? separated by beeps. Firefox was open, but two tabs were minimized. Both were sex sites. She didn't start Firefox, and was surprised when I showed her that the audio was coming from one of the two minimized FF tabs. I closed one via the task bar, and since the other had an "unresponsive script" popup, I closed it via the task manager.

I disabled wifi on the laptop and restarted Firefox. It went back to one of the sex sites, despite the Fact that the Firefox homepage was the default. Thought that was strange.

I deleted all cookies, the cache, active logins, basically everything except the history and bookmarks. Closed FF.

Ran the following antimalware (all came up clean):

Panda (full scan, and was running resident at time of incident)
HitmanPro (default and Early Warning Scan)
Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool
MBAM (full scan)
McAfee Stinger (default scan?)

Checked her FF history. Mom was browsing some legitimate health sites, and then these are the following URLs in order as per Firefox:

My office runs all Windows 7 x64 machines connected to a Windows server using Active Directory in a domain environment, using login scripts to map 3 drives X, Y and Z.

For many years we were using a Windows Server 2003 x86 server box. This past weekend we made the switch to a new 2012 R2 x64 box, and the login scripts were adjusted to add a 4th drive letter U for each user's own personal folder. The login script has the U drive mapped by connecting to \\server\share\%username%.

The problem now is that EVERY time any workstation restarts or logs out and logs back in, the "could not connect all network drives" balloon pops up. But when clicking on the balloon, Computer shows up with all 4 network drives properly connected.

I have looked at this thread: A Solution to Could not reconnect all network drives but I don't see why this would have just started happening when switching to this new server. I almost never saw that message on any machine before, when using the old server and mapping 3 network drives.

I don't mind doing the registry edit on each machine to suppress that message, as we only have about 10 machines in the office. But I'm wondering if there's something else causing this to happen now and not before the switchover?

Answer:"Could not connect all network drives" upon login after new server

I do not know why this happens after moving to 2012 server, but we see it too :-(

You can:
1) live with it
2) suppress the message (your link)
3) delay the appearance of the desktop
4) find another solution

The solution that you pick should depend on the problems (if any) that are caused by not having a network connection to a mapped drive. For us, the network drive connection is not re-established until the user clicks on the drive letter via Windows (file) Explorer. This created a problem for an application that we use. Embedded in that app are paths to files on the mapped drive. If there is no network connection to the mapped drive, the app would throw an error - stating that the files do not exist. This confused those using the app. The work around is to open Windows (file) Explorer and click on the mapped drive to re-establish the network connection - then retry the app.

We also had some things that ran at start up and needed that network connection to the mapped drive.

Because of those issues, we oped for solution #3 from the list above. However, that "solution" added so much delay to some of the computers during boot time, that we removed it and we are back to option #1. Those using the app still get confused, but they eventually figure out why the app cannot find the file. For the start up items, we moved files to each computer so as to not depend on the server.

This is just one of the many stupid things that Microsoft does...

Hi

I have recently bought an LCD logic LCX20LN1 20" tv which has a pc input. When i booted up my pc with the new screen attactched, just after the windows loading screen came up it came up with this message on the screen "out of range". Also the TFT screen that i used before that was 17" if that helps.

Answer:New LCD logic 20" screen. When booting up pc comes up with "out of range" message

Did you uninstall the drivers for your previous monitor before installing the new one?

"out of range" is most commonly caused by a resolution\frequency setting that the monitor does not support.

Google "Drivers Brother MFC3240C" and it should take you to the drivers download site, or at least another friendly site to do the same.

Check your Printers and Faxs to see if you have anything such as "XPS Printer" or Fax" "Document Printer"...etc. In other words, sometimes a Faux printer (printers or Faxs created by some software) will give false errors as they are attempting to acces these same little buggers.

LAST RESORT

Try deleting the printer and reloading. Disconnect from your PC, removed form Control Panel or Printers and Faxs.

Hi, I'm running Vista home Premium 32bit, I have had the same message on several occasions now when trying to log in form Sleep mode. Suggestions as to cause and a remedy would be most welcome.

Answer:Login - "Running low on Resources" message

I have been experiencing the same problem in both x32 and x64 with all versions of Vista and Windows 7 that have multiple logins. Once it goes to sleep and wakes up, the message appears when trying to login. Some of the site suggest resources of RAM but I have 4GB of RAM in all of my systems. Seems as though Microsoft hasn't fixed this problem for many years and cannot believe that more people haven't complained. If anyone has a fix or a bug number, please post.

I can click 'cancel', 'Try Again', or 'Continue'. The computer continues to login if I hit cancel. If I hit try again or continue it just repeats the error. After it logs in it works fine, a little slow, but fine.

This a sign of an incoming hardware problem or is it just windows being its old retarded self?

Apparently I have picked up a virus when downloading a file to test a failing graphics card. Started with ads powered by Define Ext showing up everywhere. I have Norton 360 and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium installed so I ran those two immediately and they picked up pups and pums and quarantined them. That got rid of the ads but when I opened a new tab in Chrome, it said it couldn't connect to the proxy server, same thing in IE and Firefox. I don't have a proxy server. I changed the settings back and could open one tab, but if I opened a new tab it would say the same thing again. Looking online for solutions, one suggestion was to check program files for all recent installations, found three that installed the same day as the graphic card test program.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Common Dictionary\node (I was able to delete this file completely)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Diagnostics\node with a handful of files under it; conf, copy, diagnostics, install, nsis.json, source.info, system, temp.json and uninstall. Tried uninstall, nothing. Was able to manually delete all the files under "node" but not "node" or "Diagnostics". Said it could not be deleted because the folder or file is open in another program.

The third program was called Tidy Network and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware took care of it.

We have discovered, that if we uncheck the Generate reports while trying to run the online restore, that it will work. We are unsure yet what exactly is causing the issue, but unchecking Generate Report allows us to move forward and complete the process.

I am infected with this crap and have used the following tools to try to get rid of it:
Windows Defender, Unible PowerSuite (SpeedUpMyPC, Registry Booster & Spyware Protector) and Norton's One Button Checkup and WinDoctor.

Not sure if it's related, but my DISPLAY is locked at 640 X 480.

Atempted the 5 Step Process before posting and Panda ActiveScan froze and crashed after scanning 59253 files, but not before identifying 28 spyware files.

Here's my extra.txt log from Deckard's:

Hi,

This is my first posting and am not sure if this is the place for it.

I run Mozilla Thunderbird on both my PC and my USB handy Mem. Most of the time I just use the USB instalation. Yesterday I had been using it with no problem then later in the day I opened it up again and got the error message : "Could not connect to mail server ..... the connection was refused."

I tried using the desk top version and that was no problem.

I have done virus checks, malware checks etc. Nothing showed up.
I run the Comodo security S/W; firewall, mem.firewall, BOC anti malware and anti virus. I also regularly clean and defrag my drives.

Today in trying to look at the problem I found that my task manager was disabled by the administrator, I am admin and I had not done so. I found a prog. at www.dougknox.com which repaired that problem.

I have looked through all the firewall settings and for the other s/w and can't see anything that should stop the USB instalation of Thunderbird working.

I run Windows XP Pro SP2

If you need further information to help, please let me know.

Help grately appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Answer:Arror Message : "Could not connect to mail server ..... the connection was refused."

The problem is solved.

It looks like Comodo Firewall does not like Anvir Task Manager. So I got rid of both and just reinstalled Comodo after making sure all of its hidden files etc. were gone.

I had tried uninstalling etc. before but did not check for remaining files.

Laptop kept on shutting down advising "remote procedure call terminated unexpectedly". I searched for help and thought it was the W32 blaster worm so I did the following as per the advice:

"Click on start > run > type ‘services.msc’ > scroll down to the top remote procedure call (rpc) > right click on this and select properties > click on the recovery tab > change all 3 failure boxes to take no action instead of restart > click on apply and then ok > close services.msc. "

Now the computer has stopped shutting down, but I can't connect to IE or any other applications such as skype, safari. I can't get back to change the recovery tab back to what it was.

Please can someone help me? Thank you.

Answer:Can't connect to IE after trying to fix "remote procedure call terminate" message

Look in Services to see if the status for RPC shows Started. If it is stopped your computer won't be able to do most everything. Also look at the Dependencies tab for RPC and check that all of the services it depends on are started. If one is not, that may be a clue why RPC is stopping.

Hello,
My desktop PC cannot connect wirelessly to my router. I get the message "Cannot connect to this network". The adapter driver is up-to-date and is shown as working properly. Other devices connect wirelessly with no problems (including the laptop I am using right now with same OS = win 10 Pro 64).
The motherboard wireless adapter is a new type (Broadcom 802.11ac) but my router is the older type (B/G/N - Mixed Mode) - are these two should be compatible (even if not working optimally) or should I get a router 802.11ac?

Thanks for your help,

Collpicto

Answer:Wireless connection problem: "cannot connect to this network" message

Is the router set to n type in theory it should be able to connect but there is a massive difference in speed as AC is up to 3gigs so there could be a problem syncing with the router. Routers are like PC's an old one has low CPU specs compared to new ones it's like an old 486

I'm running Windows XP & Firefox(Updated version) The problem is that about 50% of legitimate websites I try to access I receive the following message -The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I originally had this problem with Internet explorer where I received a similiar message and then switched to the current version of Firefox hoping that might solve the problem. I'm running bitdefender antivirus and my PC is virus free. I also should note that this problem started when I was forced to switch internet services from comcast to Verizon. I hope someone can help. Thanks

In the notification area, bottom right of my screen, is a blue-edged envelope for gmail. When I boot-up my PC there is a dark blue apostrophe mark across the envelope and a message just above it saying "error etc..cannot connect to server". If I ignore it and open gmail via my desktop shortcut all is well and the apostrophe vanishes. Can I stop it doing this? And does it really matter?

Answer:Solved: Gmail - "cannot connect to server" message

It's only because your PC hasn't connected to the internet when the GMail notifier is trying to log on, mine does it too. As soon as you connect it's fine, even if you don't log on to GMail via the shortcut.

My computer recently contracted the Sony DRM rootkit from one of their XCP cd's, several trojans were able to attack and though AVG caught them i temporarily lost both my cd and dvdroms in Dev Manager. Howard and tomrca helped me get rid of the XCP thing, thanks guys! As soon as I got rid of DRM rootkit I got back the use of both drives but now Copy To Dvd gives a message when I try to open the program "cannot connect to hardware access layer" I uninstalled it(and 1Click DVD Copy as well as they both came in a bundle) reinstalled them, tried to force a patin couffin install. But still get that message. Both rom drives play games and videos just fine. I just cant burn any cd's now. Someone told me I could try updating the IDE drivers but I dont know about that (or even how to do it) Does anyone have any ideas? Will that work? I even uninstalled the rom drivers but this did not help either. Help Please!

Answer:"Cannot connect to hardware access layer" message

You dont "update" optical drive drivers. All optical drives use the native Windows drivers. what you may have been told is to try updating the firmware of your drive. If there is updated firmware available for your drive then it should be available at your Drive makers web site in the support or downloads section. While it is a good idea to keep your firmware updated it is unlikely that this is the source of your problem. Your probably going to ned a reinstall or at least a repair install of windows to solve your problems caused by the rootkit and the viruses and their removal. BUT.... one thing you can try before going that route is to run System File Checker, it is likely that system files were damaged or removed so if you have your XP Cd put it in the drive and open a command prompt and type sfc /scannow this will run system file checker and replace any damaged or missing system files. AFTER that completes, then uninstall the IDE channel your drive is on in device manager under IDE ATA|ATAPI Controllers. then reboot windows will reinstall the channel and the drive automaticaly on start up.

I have Comcast cable internet in Atlanta and use a Motorola SB6121 modem and a Linksys wireless router. The wireless network has been up and running for over a year and I have never had any problems with it and I have never made any changes to it after the initial setup. I connect to the wireless network using two smart phones and an Apple laptop. I live in an apartment so the signal strength is always high and I am never more than one room away from the wireless router.

It was working fine one night like always and then in the morning I was unable to connect to the wireless network. I can still access the internet via wired ethernet cable so I know the internet is online and it is downloading at full speed. I can access the internet via wired connection directly from the modem to the computer. I can also access the internet via wired connection from the modem to the router to the computer. Comcast shows no problems with the connection on their end.

I have purchased all new ethernet cables so I know the cables aren't the problem so I figured the wireless router might have a problem. I bought a new wireless router (Apple Airport Express) and created a new wireless network. I can see the network name is available and it has full signal strength with WPA2 encryption just like it had always been with the old router.

When I try to connect from my phone or laptop it will say "Unable to obtain IP address" and "Network disabled because the internet connection i... Read more

Answer:Unable to connect to wireless network. "Internet connection is too slow."

if the router is working with a cable connection, then its unlikely to be the modem , unless thats also a router and you are using it for DHCP

you say the modem is connected by cable to the router
and any device connected to the router by cable works perfectly - is that correct

on the old router - have you removed the wireless security and see if you can connect ?

carried out a full power cycle - see below

also it would be worth making a note of the router configuration and do a factory reset on the router and re setup and try again

with a PC connected by a cable direct to the modem can we see an ipconfig /all
now do a power cycle and connect the router
with a PC connected by a cable direct to the router can we see an ipconfig /all

I have used several different programs lately that whenever they try to validate my information from the web, I get an error that the program is "unable to connect to remote server." I removed my anti-virus software and disabled windows firewall, but nothing seems to work. Internet Explorer and Firefox seem to work just fine. The other weird things is that these programs work just fine when I use them on my laptop which is connected to the same router. Thus, the router is not the problem. Since I have the same problem with multiple programs, I'm assuming that there must be something wrong with my windows network settings. I am running Windows XP

Any ideas of what fixes I can try?

Hi, I created a backup on my Lumia 550 before updating to build 494. I have been unable to restore the backup and it always fails after entering the verification code with a "We're unable to connect to a network message....."
The phone is connected to a wifi network and has mobile data enabled. It obviously connects to the the associated MS account to find the backup in the first place so I don't think my network is the issue.
I have tried soft/hard resetting, pulling the battery and re-installing the software using device recovery tool but the restore always fails at the same point.
So either it's server-side (I'm doing this over the w/e - maybe there's maintenance or something?) or the update borked something?

Upon reboot it starts working again. I have done an sfc /scannow and it comes up with no errors.

Hi!

My daughter got a virus on her laptop and after getting rid of it (I think all the way, it's hard to tell until I can update the anti-virus software) I can no longer connect her laptop to the internet.

I have had a problem in the past with having to reboot the server and all the computers in order for the computers (all of them in the house) to register new ip addresses. Normally, if I have one computer that refuses to connect even after a reboot of the entire system I can connect it thru LAN and it, bang, fixes itself. However, this time it is not working.

Not only will her wireless not connect but neither will the LAN. I have opened the cmd prompt and done an ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew. Every time I do this I get the message:

"An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."

I tried the "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" and it seemed to work fine.

I also tried the "netsh winsock reset" and it seemed to work fine as well.

I rebooted each time I attempted a fix. Still I am unable to connect to the internet. It says it is connecting locally, but will not connect to the actual internet. When I use the repair option it gives me the same messages over and over that do not work. It always leads back to the IP address.

Here are the specs on her computer and as much information as I can think of. Please let me know what else I can try to get her compu... Read more

Hello everyone,

First of all, I will divide my statement by sections so it would be easier to read.

Section 1: The problem - description of it.
Section 2: How I manage the problem.
Section 3: Things and methods that I have tried - all unsuccessfully.
Section 4: My own findings to help with further analysis.

So here we go

Section 1

Whenever I start windows it will boot normally up until Windows logo screen(where 4 balls meet to form windows 7 logo) at this logo screen I can already notice slow pace as it stays in it for a good minute. Afterwards it will be just black screen for a minute. Then mouse cursor will appear(with faster sensitivity than my usual) and it will transform into a loading wheel cursor after another minute. And now it reached state in which it can stay for hours. Only black screen and loading mouse wheel(note that it is always spinning and I can always move it, it is not frozen).

So the only way for me to login is to leave it be for at least about 5 hours and it will start itself. Usually I do this overnight and in the morning it is already at the desktop and works like nothing ever happened. I can do whatever then, everything will work perfectly fine. Crysys 3 works fine, YouTube works fine - no trace of any problem. So while I can always just Hibernate and sleep my PC, I need to restart it sometimes.

EDIT: Now after those 5 hours or more, it will simply display ordinary mouse pointer on a black screen and act as if I am in login screen. F... Read more

Answer:Black screen with "loading cursor" and no login screen on Boot.

It sounds like something is trying to load and run in the background.

I get an "Unable to connect to proxy server" when using Chrome and I get site redirects when using Firefox. Internet Explorer appears to work however, the LAN settings dialog has to have "Automatically detect settings" unchecked. Otherwise, IE will also report that it is unable to connect to proxy server. I have tried many virus and maleware removal tools. Some found issues and quarantined the offending files yet the problems persist. All the virus and maleware tools are reporting my system is clean.

First off, I am far from a computer person...but i have used these forums quite frequently and have found them to be useful for FAQs and walktthroughs to fix problems. Here's what I am encountering:

I have a router and wireless home network. In the past, I have always been able to access the internet via the wireless from either my laptop (internal wireless card) and desktop (USB connected wireless adapter).

Recently, however, while I am able to view and connect to the wireless signal (wireless connectivity icon says "good/excellent" connection to the network), when I attempt to get online through IE it says I have no connection. I then try the "repair" button, which disables the wireless, repairs it and recconects...still no access (even though everything looks fine). Same problem on both the laptop and desktop.

Any suggestions or ideas why this may be happening?

Answer:Can view and connect to wireless but unable to get "online"

The first thing you should do is determine if the router is connecting to the internet.
If you have one, run an RJ45 cable (Also known as a CAT3) from the router to one of your computers and try the internet using that connection.
Let us know if you do and we'll offer the next step.

Let me start off by saying I have tried all the basic steps to clear this problem but I still am unable to use Chrome. However, IE and FireFox work just fine.

The common method of going into Internet Properties > Connections > LAN Settings > unchecking the Use a proxy server for your LAN does not work for me.

Alternately, I ran several malware removal tools but I still stand at the same place.

After searching a little more, I found an article on this forum http://forums.techguy.org/virus-other-malware-removal/1151568-yet-another-unable-connect-proxy.html

I am facing the exact same issues as mentioned by Larrylowtech in the post. So, I have followed all the steps mentioned by dvk01 (Derek) in the mentioned post.
Here is the list of procedures I followed:
1) Scanned with ADWCleaner
2) Scanned with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Thank you in advance for your generous, patient help.

Starting several days ago, Chrome stopped working,
I can open Chrome but get the error every time I try to click a link.

I did check my proxy settings and they are unchecked and I did not need to deselect it.

I have run Malwarebytes and Superantispyware and am clean

I read many of the previous posts here on this issue and did not find a solution

There are several other strange issues that may or may not be related.
I'll add them just in case.

In IE11, I am getting a lot of popups about certificates.

In Gmail, it started opening links in new windows.
I have always opened in tabs.

I think I may have that fixed.

But links open very slowly

Answer:Yet another "Unable to connect to the proxy server" problem

Some additional information.

In Gmail, when I click a link, a popup blocker shows up (IE).

Sometimes, closing and re-opening the browser fixes it for a short bit.

Also, Iwhen I close IE, I no longer get a warning about closing all tabs.

Thanks, again

This just started. Other symptoms:
Disk Manager: "unable to connect to virtual disk service"
Internet: "Connection Status Unknown, not enough storage is available to complete this operation"
Speakers: "The audio service is not running"
Quick Launch Toolbar: Cannot start Windows Explorer, but other apps ok.

Internet is up and running fine, can still get email and visit web pages.

Yesterday, tried to run VS C# Express for the first time, and could not open a project without getting a error message. So, I ran the following script usin subbinacl:
cd /d "%programfiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %windir%\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f

What's happening?

There's a network I'm having trouble connecting to, for some reason.

A few issues that have cropped up while I'm trouble-shooting:

My software won't ask me for a password when I try to connect to their secure network. It goes straight to the following problem...

After adding the password through advanced settings, I can go to connect to it and a window saying "Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try to connect again" pops up. We have an extra laptop literally 6 inches from my laptop while this is happening, and it's getting plenty of signal strength. Like 5 bars. My laptop shows plenty of strength too, right up until the moment it decides to piss me off by not connecting.

When I fish around in the network settings on her computer, I notice the following:
It's a 802.11g network. Not entirely sure I have an a/b/g card. (looking into this as I post)
Network authentication uses WPA-2 Personal. My computer only has normal WPA options, as far as I can tell.
Data Encryption on the network is AES-CCMP...my computer just says AES.
Beyond that, there seems to be no 802.1 authentication type or protocol involved.

Any thoughts?

~S

Answer:Wifi- "Unable to connect...may no longer be in range"

i would delete the profile for the wireless. and try again.

wireless card may not support wpa2 and you may want to just knock the security down to wpa.

Hello,

About three weeks ago, I built a desktop PC and it ran fine for about a week and a half, but then it would sometimes not start and go into "startup repair", which never succeeded in actually finding a solution. The cause of this was a blue screen error which reported the following:

STOP: c000021a
The Windows Subsystem System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x
The system has been shut down.

This would occur perhaps a third of the time after powering the system on. In order to try and stop this, I opened Windows with "last known good configuration". The computer now does not find any internet connections, even though it is connected via ethernet as before.

How can I fix this issue? Any help is appreciated.

(I do not know if the startup repair issue is fixed, either)

Answer:Unable to connect to internet following use of "last known good configuration"

Hi and welcome to TSF please check in device manager for any error flags and also try running sfc /scannow SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker - Windows 7 Forums

I am having problems click on clicking "Connect to a Network" My internet works fine both wireless and LAN. My laptop does have a switch to switch wireless on/off.

The little connection icon in the lower right hand corner next to the clock will not let me click on "Connect to a Network" I can click on the one below it "Networking and Sharing Center" and it opens fine.

The only way to fix this problem is to System Restore, but after time I have to constantly do this.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thanks

Answer:Vista unable to click "connect to network"

Used SCF /SCANNOW in run to fix the problem

Thanks
